In the 1960s, only 6% of U.S.
households had female
breadwinners, as opposed to roughly
40% today.
Although this is great news, there’s still a long
way to go to close the earnings gap and give
women the opportunity to shine—without feeling
the pressure to have it all.
The first step is to debunk the common myths
that continue to limit and falsely define women in
their professional and personal lives.

Women are conditioned to value men
according to how much money they make.
So, when a woman is the breadwinner,
she tends to do extra work at home out
of guilt and to reassure her partner that
he’s maintaining his culturally-defined
role. Women have also been programmed
to value themselves according to their
husband’s income, instead of how much
they earn.

Gender dictates our worth.

The assumption is that men expect women to earn less and do more at home.
Check in with your partner about how he truly feels, otherwise you’ll risk
burnout and may be living up to an unnecessary standard.

so they put pressure on themselves
to be the perfect employee, the
perfect wife, the perfect mother.

Women can have it all.
But 100% investment in every
area of our lives isn’t possible,
despite what society and our
inner dialogue may tell us.
You can have it all, just not at the same time. You must choose where and
when to invest your energy—and get over feeling anxious about missing
out on the things you’re not focused on right now.

If we try to compartmentalize our time,
we end up feeling guilty all the time.
When we’re at work, we feel like we’re
neglecting our families. And when
we’re at home, we feel stressed by the
ever-present demands of work.

You can achieve a work-life balance.
Shut down the myth that work-life balance is possible, or even something
you’d want to pursue. However, it is realistic to achieve a more natural
blend of your professional obligations and personal life.
