Notas do Editor

  1. In today’s environment, there is a need for the organizations to motivate their employees and management team in order to achieve organizational goals and objectives. In this, motivational theories play an important role and identify the needs and demands of employees in order to provide better support for them. Companies use motivational theories in order to train employees to be productive workers. There are various motivational theories such as lewin’s theory, Adams’s theory, Vroom’s theory, Maslow theory, Skinner’s theory, McClelland’s theory, McGregor’s theory, Herzberg’s theory, Bandura’s theory, Hackman and Oldham’s theory, etc. These theories help the organizations to motivate the employees and make them productive. With the help of this, organizations increase the performance and productivity of employees and achieve competitive advantage in the market. For this presentation, the two theories such as Maslow and Herzberg’s theories are selected. This presentation discusses the theories and also provides a brief introduction about these theories with their strengths and weaknesses, how to apply each theory with highly technical workforce and adjustment of theories for marketing employees. This presentation also converses the motivational tools and techniques. At the end, this presentation also describes the personal experience with motivational tools as an employee.
  2. The Maslow’s motivational theory is also called hierarchy of needs theory. This theory states that, employees have five levels of needs that drive them to perform in the organization. These five needs include physiological, safety, social, ego and self-actualization that help the employees to perform in the organization in order to meet these needs. Maslow’s motivational theory focuses on wide range of areas of needs that help the organizations to motivate employees towards the work or specific assignment. The theory of Maslow also develops the work environment, compensation system, benefits, training and development etc. that help organization to use this theory for motivation of employees. The weakness is that, this theory does not give any tool to use this theory directly. It is a difficult to know needs of each person in the organization (Yasgoor & Bressler, 2008). Herzberg’s motivational theory is also called two-factor theory because this theory divided motivations into two separate sets of factors such as motivating and maintenance factors. In this theory, Herzberg states that there are some factors that would motivate employees to work harder as well as there are also some factors that would de-motivate employees to work harder. This helps the organization to provide job satisfaction, intrinsic and extrinsic rewards for the employees. The weakness of this theory is that the highly motivated employees worked extra work in the organization but does not receive extra pay and recognition (Stein, 2008).
  3. The Maslow’s motivational theory focuses on the five levels of needs of employees. In order to apply this theory with the highly creative and complex technology workforce, manager would need to develop the understanding of each employee’s needs and wants. Through this, manager would enhance the understanding about the working areas that need to improve. Through the identification of needs of each employee, manager will also able to develop the work environment, compensation and training and development areas. It would help the manager to motivate highly creative and complex technology workers towards the designing the websites (Carducci, 2009). In order to apply Herzberg’s motivational theory, manager would need to adopt two stage processes such as eliminate job dissatisfaction and create condition of job satisfaction. In the first stage, manager would need to identify poor and obstructive policies, build a team of creative and complex technological workforce, provide job security, competitive wages and build job status. This would help the manager to eliminate job dissatisfaction. At the second stage, manager would need to communicate motivating factors that are associated with the work. In this, manager would provide opportunities for achievement, recognizing employees’ contribution and give responsibility of each team member more (Walker & Miller, 2009).
  4. In order to motivate employees, who are responsible for marketing the merchandise, manager would use these two motivational theories. To effectively motivate these employees, manager would also use some extra efforts or processes in order to enhance their motivation level. In this, manager would identify the skills and knowledge of each employee and provide training and development programs to develop these skills and knowledge. Through this, manager would also increase their capacity and performance in order to marketing the merchandises. After this, manager would also improve the compensation and incentive system for the marketing employees. Moreover, it will support management team to persuade and influence the mind of employees towards the new and effective incentive system. It will also help management to motivate employees towards their work (Lussier & Achua, 2009). Manager would also include some policies that would provide the detailed description about the work and responsibility for each marketing employee. This will motivate employees in the market to provide extra efforts in the business in return of their personal and financial growth.
  5. There are various motivational tools and techniques that are used by the organizations in order to motivate all levels of employees towards the work or a specific and critical task. In this, positive imagery is one of the important motivational techniques that motivate employees. In this techniques, managers post motivational themes and messages in the form of slogans or quotes that helps in empowering a team in the organization. Team building activities are also an important tool to motivate employees. In this, management provides the opportunities to employees to work together outside of the office environment. It helps the employees to share their feelings and experience with the other employees and motivate them to achieve their organizational and personal goals in successful manner (Burn, 2008). On the other hand, training is also an effective motivational technique that an organization uses. In this, manager provides training to employees about their lacking areas in the organization. This motivates employees to improve their areas and enhance productivity within the organization. Companies also use effective communication tools to motivate employees at different stages of organization. To motivate employees, companies also fix the targets for the employees according to the skills and knowledge and provide reward and incentives. This also motivates employees in the organization (Wicker, 2012).
  6. As a supervisor, motivational tools help in motivating employees, who work under my guidance. I have a good experience with the motivational tools in the organization. Through the motivational tools, I am able to describe the job and responsibilities to the employees and team. This helps me to provide effective directions to the employees. In my organizational life, motivational tools such as communication, training, rewards, incentives, etc. are also helpful in increasing the productivity and efficiency of employees that bring me the opportunity to achieve organizational goals and objectives in significant manner. Motivational tools help me to communicate organization’s mission, vision and values to the employees and motivate them to achieve these in successful way and ensure long term productivity. In addition, motivational tools also help me to modify and add some new policies in incentive and compensation system of the organization. Through this, I motivate most of the employees towards the organization and its work. This also helped me to create effective relationship between employees at different level. As supervisor, motivational tools also helped me to make my work easy in the organization.
  7. From the above discussion, it can be concluded that through the motivation tools and techniques, management of an organization can improve the moral of employees and enhance their performance in order to achieve organizational goals and objectives. It is identified that Maslow and Herzberg’s motivational theories helps the management to establish an effective ground for motivation of employees. With the help of these theories, companies can develop their compensation system, work environment, incentive system and training and development system that can be helpful in motivating employees in their work and within the organization. It can be concluded that through making extra efforts, company can also apply these theories for their marketing employees. In this, companies need to follow a process that can enhance the importance of motivational tools and techniques and provide effective assistance to the employees to improve their level in the organization. In this, group building activities, training and positive imagery are some effective tools and techniques that would support companies to motivate employees at different levels of organizations.
