How to Jailbreak a PS3 on Firmware 4.25

A History Of Jailbreaking the PS3
The PS3 has had a tough track record when it comes to jail-breaking. Looking once again
over the different Ps3 jailbreak methods of days gone by In the beginning much time was
wasted seeking a Java exploit on the BlueRay drive. But this ended up being in vain as very
little beneficial came of it. It was around the same time that Sony added the otherOS feature
so that the PS3 could run Linux An advantage of Linux was in fact being able to probe the
PS3 software and firmware. A method was discovered of glitching the memory in the PS3 to
view the hypervisor was discovered by geohot. News hit us that OFW 3.21 would remove
otheros! On the 1st April other OS was removed by Sony “due to security concerns” After this
the PS3 scene slowed to a crawl then with very little to move it forward. Soon after receiving
the blame for otheros beign removed by sony Geohot leaves the scene.

PSJailbreak introduced their particular new dongle in August by delivering a pre release to a
single store. This was massive news and was front page on the main sites within hours.
Many sites were initially claiming it would be a fake. but as extra details were released it
became clear that this was indeed the real deal. Pre orders for the PSJailbreak dongle were
huge. The huge demand saw many people without a dongle for weeks. Firmware 3.56 was
quickly released by Sony with new Keys. The USB port would now only work with Sony
approved devices. This simple move stopped the dongle dead in its tracks. As older games
were now all able to be backed up they would need updates to the newer keys. It meant the
end of playing them on PSN though. And so it was fine for a while but with the Christmas
releases getting nearer the future was uncertain. Gran Turismo 5 was the first big release not
to work. The minimum firmware version for the game was 3.50 with jailbreak users stuck on
3.41.

It took a while to get the game working by patching the eboot but by Christmas it was
payable. Of course it turned out right after that same Christmas that failoverflow cracked the
keys New years eve and the next day saw the scene light up with the first news of the public
keys. Geohot released his hello world on new years day Not long after that he released his
jailbreak pup. Even though the jailbreak didnt immediately allow backups a method was
found to use them. A great method to run backups was discovered using this jailbreak. Still
the sweetest looking now! A spate of CFW releases saw many bricks but most settled on the
Keamw or Rebug CFW.

A long two months passed with CFW users able to access PSN with no problems. Suddenly
cheating was a real problem with online games for the PS3 Infinity Ward banned a large
number of players from their servers for cheating. The PSN account server was hacked
during this time period by an unknown hacker. Credit card details were stolen from a possible
50 million users. Realising what has happened Sony shut down the entire network. Its over a
month before the new PSN is open again. Additional security for the logon to PSN presented
a new problem for CFW PS3's As once more cfw users were locked to an older firmware.
Newer games started to require higher versions.

For some time the stalemate situation continued For some time but the release of the true
blue dongle reunites it. Special DRM in the dongle meant you had to run specific versions of
the game. How much this had to do with Paradox is unknown but they were to release the
Eboots. A little later duplex started releasing PSN games having somehow cracked the
newer keys. The exact method TureBlue were using to resign the Eboots could only be
guessed at, then out of the blue someone leaked the 3.60 private public keys! Rumors of a
jailbreak for 3.60 OFW circulated along with various youtube videos. It didnt take long though
until Duplex turned their attention to the TB dongle itself. Amazingly, they succeeded and
then started releasing tb free eboots. True Blue themselves released a statement that they
would be updating the dongle and releasing 4.11 games. so far no updates from them have
been made Is this the end of the trueblue dongle? A way has also been found to turn normal
ps3 consoles into debug units. this means running homebrew and backups without the need
for the keys at all. Or course the drawback of the ps3 dex unit is it will never be able to
access psn. For PSN access and game backups there is only really one option PS3 Jailbreak
4.21 is what is currently required. This would mean access to all the latest game releases
having the ability to play them online. It should be noted as well that by access to PSN this
must still include the ability to purchase from the store.
