Murder In The Media
The way the media sensationalizes murder has changed greatly since the death of Queen Victoria in
the early 20th century. However, the public s fascination with murder is still as strong as ever. The
infamous cases and trials of Case Anthony, OJ Simpson, and Amanda Knox captivated a world and
resulted in the commercial appeal of true crime. The commercialization of what society openly
proclaims as criminal begs for a curtail question to be asked. What makes this Victorian cultural trait
thrive in today society while other culture traits died out? Television and the internet are two
technological advances that have sustained the public s fascination with murder. Both of these sources
allow for a shift from a written format to visual display. Unlike the pre Victorian pastime of murder
sightseeing and the Victorian written format, television and the internet allow a merge of the tow to
accrue. A person can see the brutality of murder but still stay distanced at the same time, adding in it
appeal. Understanding why modern cultural embraces Storys of true crime is crucial in understanding
why the Victorians did the same. Scott Boons a professor of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Social Movements And Collective Action Essay
INTRODUCTION: Theories regarding social movements and collective action are precisely
significant and valuable. They allow us to describe and explain such movements how they form and
organize, their agendas, the extent to which mobilization or counter mobilization process succeeds or
fails in different situations, and how they evaluate strategies and policies in the light of specific
outcomes. Self evidently, the terms and perceptions and the dialogue that we bring to bear must be in
coherence with the particular social movement that we are studying. Theories neither ascend nor
activate in an empty space, they have an itemized background behind their emergence and they are
revolutionized in response to the realities of the subject matter. As a result of the writings and research
there has been a lot of debate regarding diverse perspectives of various researchers. Advances and
defense of the existing school of thoughts were also presented along with the emergence of new
school of thoughts altogether. Comprehensive research related to social movements is being conducted
not only in the field of social sciences, but also in politics, communication and history. The purpose of
this chapter is to review some of the theories of social movements. The theories that we have
discussed are Mass Society Theory, Marxist theory, Relative Deprivation Theory, Resource
Mobilization Theory and Framing theory. An analysis on the application of these approaches in certain
situations, the

10, 000 Beers Play Analysis
10,000 Beers by Alex Broun is an energizing and unique style of an Australian work, investigating
masculinity, sport and mateship. The play explores a theme that is seen very little on our contemporary
stages, yet brings to light issues that are ever present in our Australian culture such as the pressure to
compete or preform. Another further concept looked at within the play is the negative impact that
mateship in sport can really have on an athlete. With school soon coming to an end, I decided it would
be apt to delve into a play which explores part of my life outside of school. Sport. As an athlete I ve

Since sport, mateship, masculinity, and ultimately the athlete s perspective is an overarching factor in
this production, it was a logical decision to research these themes. As an athlete myself, a lot of the
information gathered is from first hand experience with team sports and professional sport. However
other research was conducted online in order to find other perspectives on these themes and how they
play apart in society. Through the research, the majority agree that mateship and masculinity can make
or break an athlete. Mateship is something that can affect a player in both in a negative and positive
way, if you get along with the group then it can be seen as an encouraging environment, however if
you do not fit in with the team and are constantly picked on, the effects can be very detrimental to
certain athletes. Masculinity is defined as being manly which consists of being tough and able to hold
your beer in most cases associated with sport. To onlookers this can been seen as just a funny concept,
but to an athlete it is a case of fitting in, and this is further explored in the

The Change Of The Furniture Industry
The structural changes needs to address the progress of the furniture industry which is already
matured.. By 2001, the company had opened foreign subsidiaries in 32 nations. Currently, the group
operates in 43 nations and has 328 stores in 28 states across the globe (Inter IKEA Systems B.V.
2016). This include geographical location such as the West Europe, Scandnavia, North America, East
Europe, Asia and Australia. The expansion strategy of the company intends to venture into the
Japanese market. Currently, the group is led by Peter Adgnefjail who is the president and the CEO.
Agnefjäll t ishe Group Management of IKEA (White, 2004). Following the ambitious intention of the
IKEA to expand globally, the leaders of the group ought to adopt an innovative geographical area
organizational structure to support its international operations and administrative process.
Organizational Chart This design will focus on bringing the divisional structure of the group together
according to customer and products that will be distributed. The geographical area division structure
allows the multinational to operate using division that takes care of various business functions
including production, marketing, sales, and finance. In this case, the regions represent the divisions of
the group that will allow IKEA to establish its operations in various nations under the 6 regions. A
geographical area division structure would be ideal for the company to implement a global expansion
strategy.

If we break out the third octet displaying the binary values for each bit space this is how it would be
displayed.
128 | 64 | 32 | 16 | 8 | 4 | 2 | 1
This is our class C after applying CIDR notation.
128 | 64 | 32 | 16 | 8 | 4 | 2 / 0 = 254 By borrowing the one bit we have changed our subnet mask from
255.255.255.0 to 255.255.254.0.
The next step is to determine what our Network ID s will be, and what our usable hosts will be. This is
done by going back to the binary. There are 8 bits in each octet which is in base 2 the numerical value
of the binary numbers. This is equal to 28 or 256. When we borrow the one bit from the third octet we
are now adding that one bit to the original eight this changes our binary value from 8 bits to 9 bits
which is equal to 29 or 512. This means that we will now have 512 IP Addresses per subnet, and if we
apply the formula 2n 2 this will give us 510 usable hosts per subnet. We can then take this same
formula without the minus 2 to calculate the number of subnets that we will obtain from this
calculation. There are still seven on bits to the left in this octet. This is equal to 27 or 128. This means
that will obtain 128 subnets with this CIDR calculation.
This is the default C before we borrowed the one bit in binary notation,

The Impact of Large Aircraft on Aircraft Management Essay
According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) aircraft certification, a large aircraft refers to
an aircraft of more than 12,500 pounds which is the maximum certificated takeoff weight. The
heaviest and largest aircraft in the world have a maximum takeoff weight of over 600 tons. Since
larger aircraft have greater capacity, as well as advanced technological features, airport management
needs to make changes that cater to their operation. The first reaction of management at large airports
was to restrict the new, large aircraft by assigning them to specific terminals, routes and runways.
However, this led to delays and air traffic congestion. Given the growing number of new, large
aircraft, the only safe and efficient way to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This new standard calls for taxiways and runways to be widened, along with taxiways to taxiways and
the runways to taxiways.
Although the arrival of these new aircraft has eased airport congestion and continues to meet
passenger needs, it presents numerous challenges for airport management. As a result, various changes
have been made and others are to be put into effect. The super jumbo is 400,000 pounds heavier, 11
feet longer, 41 feet wider and 15 feet taller than Boeing jumbo jets (Yeamans, 2006). This aircraft,
then, requires longer and wider landing space, and airport management has increased airport pavement
areas. Where existing land did not allow for expansion, additional land has been identified and new
airports constructed.
Similarly, the increase in the number of passengers has created a need for more gate hold rooms. New,
large aircraft have significantly affected passenger flow, in terms of the queuing network system (Chiu
and Walton, 2003). In some airports, adjacent gates may not operate when large planes, such as the
super jumbo and the A380, are loading and unloading. Gate capacities have increased more than
twofold in airports that have large aircraft. In order to maintain their services, then, many airport
managements have increased their number of gate hold rooms.
Airports have also expanded the capacity of baggage handling, concourses, ticket

Financial Statement Analysis And Ratios
Chapter 17 covers the financial statement analysis and ratios. Financial statement analysis is the
process of examining financial statements that will depict the financial position of the company
allowing them to make better financial decisions. A typical financial statement consist of a balance
sheet, income statement, cash flow statement and notes to account. The most common being the
balance sheet and the income statement. The balance sheet, also referred to as a statement of financial
positon, is usually made up of assets and liabilities and provides information about the financial
position of the company. It is a two sided report, assets on one side, and liabilities on the other.
Liabilities typically include accounts payable, accrues expenses, income tax owed, stockholders equity
(net worth), and loans. The income statement, also referred to the earning and loss statement, depicts
the profitability of the company. It shows to total sales revenue for one year. The expenses the
company incurs in producing finished good to sell is subtracted from the sales revenue. Also deducted
is the operating cost expenses and the deprecation. When analyzing the income statement, it is
important to note that the profitability isn t just the total profit. It is important to look at the ratio of
expenses as a percentage of profit. A company with high profits and high expenses could easily be
mismanaged.
However, balance sheets and income statements have little meaning by

The Plant Of A Pipeline
Introduction
Pigging is a critical activity in the commissioning and operation of a pipeline; oil, gas, water or
otherwise. For flow assurance the pipeline needs to be cleared of debris and checked for defects, tasks
pigs were designed for. The pig needs a method of entering and exiting the pipeline, so a mobile or
fixed launcher and receiver are utilised depending on the exact requirements.
Pig Launching and Receiving Basics
A pig launcher and receiver, also known as a pig trap, are equipment designed to pump in the pig
through the pipeline system and to retrieve the pig at the end of the operation. They can be mobile
(pigging of construction section) or fixed in the pipeline system. The location of the launcher is
located at the upstream end of the pipeline system, near the pump or compressor, while the receiver is
at the end of the system.
The launcher can be installed in a horizontal, vertical or inclined position. Most are installed
horizontally to ease the operation and it is therefore the most preferable. However, due to space limits,
vertical or incline pig traps are often considered. The launcher, receiver and all related equipment are
designed, manufactured and tested according to the pipeline and vessel code standards e.g.; NACE,
ASME VIII, BS 5500, ANSI, ASME B31.3, B31.4, B31.8, etc.
A pig trap is essential to get a potential result of product saving. It means that there is no requirement
for adding an extensive line flushing as the pig cleaned out the

Sleep And Non Rem Sleep
Sleep effects every living organism on the world, whether it is positive or negative it has an impact on
everyone. There are many different stages of sleep and each containing its own purpose. Sleep isn t as
simple and unnecessary as many believe it to be; sleep has the power to cause many different
disorders and can even cause death if a person is deprived from sleep for too long. Sleep can also
effect the brain and how the brain functions on a daily basis. Sleep is an important factor of life that
should not be over looked. If enough sleep occurs there are many advantages that can make one s life
more healthy and beneficial. There are distinctive stages of sleep REM sleep and non REM sleep and
about every ninety minutes we cycle through four recognizable sleep stages (Myers D 2014). Non
REM sleep consists for 3 different stages and during each stage it contains its own purpose. Stage one
occurs for about 10 minutes and is when a person is lightly sleeping and can be woken up very easily
(Mastin 2013). Muscles are still active and movement occurs more frequently such as twitches and the
eyes roll around at a slow pace and breathing and heart rates slow down (Mastin 2013). Stage two
happens between 45 50 percent of the night at different intervals (Mastin 2013). Muscle activity
decreases and it is harder to wake up during this stage; if sounds are heard they are no longer able to
make sense of them (Mastin 2013). The last stage: stage three which is also called delta

Individuals Bulimia Nervosa As An Oedipal Condition
individuals bulimia nervosa can be conceptualized as an oedipal condition, in which individuals use
food to express and manage threatening feelings associated with the drama of oedipal desire and
rivalry. The rapid cycling of over control and loss of control eating in bulimia nervosa can be viewed
as a symbolic representation of conflict related to disavowed oedipal desires. In bingeing episodes,
food is something that is desirous, almost enticing to the point that it is consumed beyond satiation. In
restricting episodes, food is repugnant to the bulimic patient, something to be avoided and restricted at
all costs. Interpersonally, bulimic patients who are fixated at an oedipal stage of development are

The oedipal bulimic patient clearly experiences a wish to triumph over the mother by becoming
thinner and thus more desirable. However, the bulimic woman appears to sabotage her own ambitions
for thinness. This is likely an expression of castration anxiety or rather fear of retaliation by the
maternal object. This anxiety is expressed in ambivalent feelings about the body. Conceptually, this
hypothesis seems to have support from empirical research demonstrating that most eating disorders
surface during adolescence, a period of tremendous growth and development (Ringer Crittenden,
2007). Most threatening to women with bulimia, physical and sexual maturation forces young girls to
deal with the reality of growing into a sexually mature being, which may induce feelings of guilt and
fear of mother s disapproval. By frequently regurgitating meals, bulimic women are able to resist or at
minimum have greater control over their development. Yet, unlike anoretic women, bulimic women
are clearly conflicted about their bodies. The anoretic patient prizes her emaciated physical state
which presents her as child like and less feminine. The bulimic patient appears more conflicted about
her body as part of her welcomes the opportunity to compete for father s attention. For young women

Implementing A New Tracking System Essay
The situation surrounding the problem within the Office of Appeals is adapting from seeing things as
they are to seeing things as they could be. The Agency must take final administrative action on a
hearing within 90 days of the date of the initial request. Although, the 90 day time frame allowed
pursuant to regulations, the Agency makes every effort to conduct hearings promptly, and if possible,
render decisions in a shorter time frame. Therefore, the new tracking system will have a tremendous
impact on conducting the hearing within the allotted time.
It s time to move into the fast pace and changing technology world. The Office of Appeals must be
equipped with today s technology to ensure that our beneficiaries and stakeholders receive information
and assistance as quickly and efficiently as possible. Incorporating a new tracking system could serve
that purpose. By instituting a new tracking system, the Division of Medicaid could greatly improve the
quality or services it provides to its beneficiaries and stakeholders. A new appeal tracking system
would minimize the time in providing hearing notification to the beneficiaries we serve. By utilizing
the most recent program software, it will allow the Office of Appeals to thoroughly track an appeal
from the beginning to the final administrative decision.
The major issue is the Excel spreadsheet the Office of Appeals currently uses to track appeals displays

This negligent care could also lead to legal ramifications in the future against the hospital. By

Another interesting Kenyan tradition that follows the birth of a child does not allow the mother to
breastfeed her baby until the next day. Instead newborn babies consume a salt water solution. The
mother and child spend the first four days recovering in seclusion; not even the father can visit until
this time has passed (Birth Doc). Many other cultures encourage families to be present during
childbirth and expect to have visitors following the birth. Care of the elders in the population also rests
on the Kenyan woman s shoulders, while she is also expected to run her own household. There are not

with suffering and injustice, the more I feel the truth of the statement, We pay for the sins of our
fathers. Every generation inherits the problems of their parents. Each generation that inherits
dysfunctions from their parents have to break free and create a new narrative for themselves like
Victor and the way Alexie uses poetry as narrative his film. Smoke Signals is about a new generation
of Native Americans coming to terms with a painful past and forgive so that a new generation can
move forward.

Rhetorical Analysis Of I Will Fight No More Forever
I Will Fight No More Forever Rhetorical Analysis Did Chief Joseph not want to fight anymore, or did
he physically and mentally lack the strength? In the surrender speech I Will Fight No More Forever,
spoken by Chief Joseph of the Nez Perce (a Native American tribe of the Wallowa Valley in Northwest
Oregon) and translated by Lieutenant Charles Erskine Scott Wood, Chief Joseph talks about how the
rest of the chiefs or generals are dead. He uses the word killed at first, according to Lieutenant Wood s
translation. After he uses killed for the first time, he goes on to use dead and lets us assume everyone
who was dead was killed. This speech was given in the Bears Paw battle on October 5, 1877. He and
his people were being forced to move to a reservation, so in retaliation, he tries to move 800 of his
people 1,100 miles to Canada. He talks about how he wants to look for his children later on, as well.
His tone is sad and dreary, really quite pessimistic. Throughout the text, there were the three appeals:
Ethos, Pathos, and Logos. In the speech, they use some more than others here s how. The appeal of
Ethos is for the reader or listener to trust the writer or speaker based on their ethics; based on their
reputation and presentation. In this speech, the speaker is telling the truth and uses ethos when saying I
am tired of fighting. In that sentence, we can rely on Chief Joseph s credibility and morals to say that
he s telling the truth and to say that the audience trusts

The Ocean s Influence To The Development Of The Ocean
Bibliographic Information: Smithsonian. Whales only recently evolved into giants when changing ice,
oceans concentrated prey: Analysis of fossil, modern whale s points to when and how whales started
bulking up. ScienceDaily. ScienceDaily, 24 May 2017. . Introduction: After analyzing the fossils or
preserved remains of whales, scientist have determined that whales have only recently evolved to be
the large animals that we know today. Though not sure, the scientist state that the evolutionary shift
was due to the increase of ice sheets in the North. This increase in ice caused a shift in the
concentration of food available in the ocean, increasing the benefits of having a bigger body. This is
important to the scientific community because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The shift in whale size occurred during the beginning of the Ice Age and the increase in ice sheets may
have caused a change in the distribution of food. Before the ice sheets, food would have been evenly
distributed; however, as the ice sheets formed, run off would ve increased the amount of food like krill
and plankton in the water, this increase along with the filter feeding mechanism of the baleen whale
would have given the advantage to larger whale, who would have been able to utilize the dense
aggregations of prey in the water.
Evaluation
A. This study mainly focuses within Big Idea 1, the process of evolution drives the diversity and unity
of life. Within the study, the scientists observed how organism are linked by a common ancestry (1.B)
through cladograms and the width of the skull from fossil records. With these fossils, the scientists
observed the shift of size in the whale s bodies and how organisms from a common ancestor change
and differentiate in structure over time. This allowed for them to see what traits were gained and lost,
causing not only speciation in the organisms but also overall phenotypic changes. Similarly, in this
study, the scientists were able to unveil how life continues to evolve with a changing environment.
Extinctions and speciation occur all the time due to the environment. Though it s not proven, the

Traumatic Bonding
There is an often argued debate among people throughout the world concerning arranged marriages
versus marrying for love. The argument against arranged marriages is often that the two people
marrying do not love one another, and so they may spend their entire lives in unhappiness.
Unhappiness, though, can come from any relationship, free will or not, and so is the case with
traumatic bonding. How can two people with no reasonable compatibility maintain a relationship for
any amount of time? A study by Hatfield and Rapson (1996) showed that an untold number of
husbands receive physical abuse from their wives...as well as incidences of stalking and cases of
clinical depression and suicide are commonly associated with romantic attraction... (Fisher ... Show

Abusers may feel attachment for their victims, and the victims may feel attachment to their abusers.
According to Bowlby s attachment theory, if the victims were abused or made to act as caregivers as
children, they may be more inclined to seek an abusive relationship. I hypothesize that these two
situations are connected. Traumatic bonding victims feel an attachment for their abusers due to some
dysfunction in their childhood relationships with their caregivers, and that relationship brings about
the passive defensive behavior seen within their traumatic relationships. Observational data on
humans support the hypothesis that the neural correlates of attachment are distinct from those of the
sex drive and those of attraction (Fisher 1998). So, the attachment felt within a traumatic bond is not
necessarily driven by attraction or sex drive, meaning that genuine attachment in a traumatic bond is
possible, and though genuine attachment is possible, behaviors of submission appear to combat the
abuse. Though the victim is attached to his or her abuser, behaviors are enacted to prevent further
abuse and make the relationship bearable. I will use previous research in behavior and

Of course, after the proposal came out college athletics directors and conference commissioners began
protesting the new stipend by claiming of all things they could not afford it . Within a month, 125 of
them had signed an override request. So the NCAA decided to cave on the idea. Some of the students
who had already signed that deal got to keep the $2000 stipend yet others who take money for a
different type of deal, say with an overzealous booster for selling some of their team paraphernalia, as
a few Ohio State players did violated the NCAA s rules regarding amateurism and were hit with multi

problem of the system that needs to be addressed.
It all starts with money and the players see it and know it. They see that the NCAA s college football

The movie Divergent is based on the novel by Veronica Roth. The book and film takes place in future

result of the test, then it is determined that the person is Divergent. This is a rare story of Beatrice

By wearing the short sleeves, his muscles are exposed. The significance of the muscles are important
because it represents that he is strong and fights for what is right. Jeanine matthews wore a very

Her clothing was tight fit, showing that she had control and bravery like a dauntless person. In the
same respect, her clothing is grey, which symbolizes the importance of not standing out and being
selfless in the abnegation community. The movie Divergent was a drama and science fiction film. This
film is for teenagers and young adults that like drama and/or science fiction. The acting and costume

Apple a leg up on competitors, when they came up with the iPhone design nobody knew what they

Microsoft for example has to get other companies to create hardware or software to be compatible
with its products. Apple operates within its self, making it the firm to beat. Google is still going

Baking Soda History
Baking soda was founded 4 million years ago. What it basically started as was, Trona deposits, that
are, formed after the evaporation of great salt lakes in Wyoming, as well as in Kenya, Egypt,
Venezuela and the desert of Central Asia (Arm and Hammer). Ancient Egyptians used baking soda for
cleaning their teeth, keeping their clothes cleans and keeping their meat and vegetables fresh. This
happened around 2500 BC. Then in 1846, John Dwight and his brother in law, Dr. Austin Church,
developed bicarbonate of soda (baking soda) as a leavening agent for home baking goods (Arm and
Hammer). They took this and developed their own company. Many people use baking soda for
cooking but they also use it for cleaning their clothes, dishes, brushing their teeth and to keep the
smell out of your refrigerator. In the scientific world, baking soda is known as, a white crystalline

Albatross Anchor Operational Changes
Introduction
Albatross Anchors is a small family owned business that began in 1976. The company has grown
exponentially over the years with more than one hundred and thirty employees. As the company grew,
their operational issues in the production and administrative area grew as well. The organization has
been faced with a lack of updated technology, out dated equipment, an inefficient layout which
violates the U.S. safety and environmental standards, and a disorganized administration office.
Therefore, production is not running smoothly, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order to be competitive enough and be able to take advantage of sudden rises in demand, Albatross
Anchor needs to develop two manufacturing lines. This will ensure each anchor has its own
production line. The two lines will also ensure that there is no need for changeovers or switch of
equipments which will result in faster production. Also, this will meet sudden demand changes and
increase competitiveness. This long term pursuit will effectively reduce the production time required
and increase batch production of each anchor model. In order for the company to take advantage of
increases in demand and achieve high operational standards, the building needs a complete renovation.
For example, the offices and the plant must be separated and more space given to production areas,
since joined areas are cluttered and unsafe. They must Adopt a new layout. A modern plant design and
safer working environments will permit faster production. Additionally, the enhancement of safety
will reduce cases of potential work injuries, which could be very costly indeed. (O Toole Mackenzie,
2011). (03) Storage: Back to speed in production and an efficient operational system and sudden

Where Worlds Collide By Pico Iyer
Where Worlds Collide is an essay by Pico Iyer who talks about the expectations and reality of Los
Angeles through the perspectives of travelers from different backgrounds. In Where Worlds Collide,
Pico Iyer argues that even though Los Angeles is depicted as a vicinity to receive wealth, happiness,
and many opportunities it is actually the antithesis, and instead, many harsh prejudice and unending
craziness will occur instead; Iyer argues this by using allusions, anaphoras, and juxtapositions to help
convey what he is saying.
In the beginning of this passage, Iyer starts off with a lively and narrative tone to introduce a biblical
allusion in the first paragraph; Iyer explains how many travelers come out from the airplane to reach
their final destination, the Promised Land. This allusion sparks an interest to the readers because Iyer
is referring to the Los Angeles International Airport as the Promised Land. Throughout the essay, Iyer
refers to the LAX as the Land of Opportunity Iyer is using these two allusions to help paint a picture
of what the LAX means to these naive travelers, a place filled with hopes and dreams. These allusions
help correspond to the jubilance of the author s tone and helps keep the writing capture the author s
passion about his story.
Later in Iyer s passage, he uses anaphoras to help solidify the hectic attributes of the LAX, which
contradicts the supposed Promised Land. Iyer describes how the second thing that the travelers see is
that [i]n front of them is a Van Stop, a Bus Stop, a Courtesy Tram Stop, and a Shuttle Bus Stop...
(101). The repetition of stop is utilized to show that all of these stops are bombarding their way
through towards the travelers just as if everything is going out of control. The scenery that Iyer is
depicting is about a hectic airport, not about a Promised Land. Iyer includes more anaphoras as he
talks about how [t]hey have already braved the ranks of Asian officials, the criminal looking security
men in jackets... They already, perhaps, visited the restroom where someone has written, Yes on
Proposition 187. Mexicans go home... (101). The anaphoras being used in this example shows the
repetition of they have and the emphasis of this

fungal skin isolates
ABSTRACT
T he worldwide increase of multidrug resistance has impaired the current antimicrobial therapy,
warranting the search for other alternatives.This study investigated the efficacy of using plant extracts;
Lawsonia inermis L(Henna), Glycyrrhiza glabra L(licorice) and Rosmarinus officinalis L (Rosemary)
as antifungal agents.Antifungal susceptibility test revealed that nystatin were mostly active against
tested clinical isolates. In vitro antifungal activity of the different plant extracts against isolates
showed that acetonic extract of licorice, had high antifungal activity. In vivo study, topical application
of licorice gave promising and excellent healing response. We propose that the higher percentage of
(GC MS) of 3 O Methyl d glucose 29.1 %, most probably are the causes of its higher antifungal
activity.

Strategic Action Disney On Consumer Focused Initiative Essay
Assessment 1 MKT 220 Buyer Behavior Submitted by: Eirenne Lucia V. Reyes 14095156B Stream B
Submitted to: Anika Vats Date: May 13, 2015 Part A Question 1: Which strategic action Disney took
in terms of consumer focused initiative? Give examples. (15 marks) In 1992, Euro Disney was
launched in Paris. This project unexpectedly received undesirable feedback from its target market
since the company wrongly assumed that it would be easily accepted by the Western European market.
Disney received criticisms and negative publicity as they were thought to have brought American
imperialism into Europe and the French government acquired farmland just to create the theme park
which resulted to protests from the French farmers. Cultural issues also arose as most of its employees
did not accept well the management style and the dress code, the customers were not satisfied with the
language used in the theme park, with the ban of alcohol consumption, the pricing of tickets and
merchandise, etc. The company learned that they had to be aware and have a full understanding of the
culture of their host nation and apply it to the operations of the theme park; and this is the main
strategic action that they had to pursue in order to capture the desires and interest of their customers.
As a result, Euro Disney was changed to Paris Disneyland to strengthen the identity and nationalism
of the theme park in relation with its host nation, France, and in turn the French were

The On The Other Hand, Parole, By De Saussure
On the other hand, parole refers to the use of the langue the action in and of itself. It occurs in the
phenomenon of language as a sequence of speech. Parole, which includes both written and spoken
languages utilized in everyday life, is extremely diverse and varied dependent upon the number of
people attempt to use a common language. In addition, de Saussure noted the constant change that
parole undergoes as social groups, and age of users manipulate the language over time.
De Saussure s interpretation of the underlying basis of language also included a composition of signs
as opposed to sentences. Signs consist of two parts: a notion and a sound/written pattern. Without a
sound, the notion is incommunicable. Similarly, without a notion, sound patterns are just noise.
Without a comprehensive understanding of langue, parole is a meaningless collection of sounds or
symbols grouped together at random. By understanding the relationship between the two parts of a
sign, langue and parole create meaning. Therefore, de Saussure spoke heavily on the importance of
understanding the langue of a language, especially a foreign one, than to grow the vocabulary of
parole. By approaching a nonnative language as such, the speaker increases his or her ability to make
sense equal to that of a native speaker. Language acts as a link that allows thought to be expressed
through sound. As thoughts become more coherent, thus leading to the creation of sounds in words
and phrases, language

Eureka! Poe s thoughts on the universe and its relation to God
The Universe is a plot of God. Is one of the main ideas expressed throughout Eureka a Prose Poem in
which Edgar Allan Poe expresses his thoughts on the creation and purpose of the universe (Poe). As a
writer Poe has been known to be a man of the arts, a poet. Eureka is truly one of its own among Poe s
works, especially since it was his last major work before his death(. A Prose Poem he called it.
Although he was not expectant of his death, Eureka seems to be his last testament of what he believes
is the collective universe. Not surprisingly, God has the same occupation in the universe as his, God is
a writer. As a man of thought he left this earth with a final testament to the world in which he wishes
to explain the universe for all those who seek the truth (Poe Preface).Eureka is not only an explanation

Stephen King Influences
Stephen King is one of today s most popular and best selling horror writers. King combines the
elements of psychological chills and paranormal. He loves to mess with the heads of his readers, often
making them feel sorry for his characters, such as in stories of Carrie and The Green Mile, which both
exhibit supernatural factors. King also tends to fancy writing from a viewpoint that the readers can get
into. The vast majority of King s stories occur in places his American readers can relate to personally.
It is uncommon to walk the streets and converse with someone who has not heard the name of Stephen
King. King s novels, as well as his movies, are widely known throughout American culture. King s

One of King s most famous works, and its fame is partly because of the movie, is the Green Mile. It
has many Christian qualities throughout. The Green Mile, a large, African American man named John
Coffey, seems to mirror the life of Jesus Christ, although the story is set in the death row area of a
depression era prison ( The Writing Style of Stephen King, para 35). The story really hits home with
people about the selflessness of Jesus Christ. For Christians and people who have a general idea of the
Bible, they will understand this story. John Coffey was prosecuted for from something he did not do.
He was a healer of the sick. He used supernatural powers to help the sick, as he heals one of the Ward
s wife who has a brain tumor towards the end of the novel. In The Green Mile, King uses magical
realism to introduce his readers to supernatural elements taking place in an ordinary realistic
environment (The Writing Styles of Stephen King para 20). In life we can experience things that do
not seem real even though they can happen is why it is magical to us. Sometimes people feel like they
are accused of things do not do and have to get punished for it, just as Coffey was. John eventually has
to die for the sins he did not commit, but he does not go without first teaching a lesson

  • 2. Murder In The Media The way the media sensationalizes murder has changed greatly since the death of Queen Victoria in the early 20th century. However, the public s fascination with murder is still as strong as ever. The infamous cases and trials of Case Anthony, OJ Simpson, and Amanda Knox captivated a world and resulted in the commercial appeal of true crime. The commercialization of what society openly proclaims as criminal begs for a curtail question to be asked. What makes this Victorian cultural trait thrive in today society while other culture traits died out? Television and the internet are two technological advances that have sustained the public s fascination with murder. Both of these sources allow for a shift from a written format to visual display. Unlike the pre Victorian pastime of murder sightseeing and the Victorian written format, television and the internet allow a merge of the tow to accrue. • 3. Social Movements And Collective Action Essay INTRODUCTION: Theories regarding social movements and collective action are precisely significant and valuable. They allow us to describe and explain such movements how they form and organize, their agendas, the extent to which mobilization or counter mobilization process succeeds or fails in different situations, and how they evaluate strategies and policies in the light of specific outcomes. Self evidently, the terms and perceptions and the dialogue that we bring to bear must be in coherence with the particular social movement that we are studying. Theories neither ascend nor activate in an empty space, they have an itemized background behind their emergence and they are revolutionized in response to the realities of the subject matter. As a result of the writings and research there has been a lot of debate regarding diverse perspectives of various researchers. Advances and defense of the existing school of thoughts were also presented along with the emergence of new school of thoughts altogether. Comprehensive research related to social movements is being conducted not only in the field of social sciences, but also in politics, communication and history. The purpose of this chapter is to review some of the theories of social movements. The theories that we have discussed are Mass Society Theory, Marxist theory, Relative Deprivation Theory, Resource Mobilization Theory and Framing theory. The play explores a theme that is seen very little on our contemporary stages, yet brings to light issues that are ever present in our Australian culture such as the pressure to compete or preform. Another further concept looked at within the play is the negative impact that mateship in sport can really have on an athlete. With school soon coming to an end, I decided it would be apt to delve into a play which explores part of my life outside of school. Sport. As an athlete I ve lived the lifestyle that the characters in the play have, experienced it first hand. As this play is about sport, it ultimately gives a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since sport, mateship, masculinity, and ultimately the athlete s perspective is an overarching factor in this production, it was a logical decision to research these themes. As an athlete myself, a lot of the information gathered is from first hand experience with team sports and professional sport. However other research was conducted online in order to find other perspectives on these themes and how they play apart in society. Through the research, the majority agree that mateship and masculinity can make or break an athlete. Mateship is something that can affect a player in both in a negative and positive way, if you get along with the group then it can be seen as an encouraging environment, however if you do not fit in with the team and are constantly picked on, the effects can be very detrimental to certain athletes. Masculinity is defined as being manly which consists of being tough and able to hold your beer in most cases associated with sport. To onlookers this can been seen as just a funny concept, but to an athlete it is a case of fitting in, and this is further explored in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If we break out the third octet displaying the binary values for each bit space this is how it would be displayed. 128 | 64 | 32 | 16 | 8 | 4 | 2 | 1 This is our class C after applying CIDR notation. 128 | 64 | 32 | 16 | 8 | 4 | 2 / 0 = 254 By borrowing the one bit we have changed our subnet mask from 255.255.255.0 to 255.255.254.0. The next step is to determine what our Network ID s will be, and what our usable hosts will be. This is done by going back to the binary. There are 8 bits in each octet which is in base 2 the numerical value of the binary numbers. This is equal to 28 or 256. When we borrow the one bit from the third octet we are now adding that one bit to the original eight this changes our binary value from 8 bits to 9 bits which is equal to 29 or 512. This means that we will now have 512 IP Addresses per subnet, and if we apply the formula 2n 2 this will give us 510 usable hosts per subnet. We can then take this same formula without the minus 2 to calculate the number of subnets that we will obtain from this calculation. There are still seven on bits to the left in this octet. This is equal to 27 or 128. This means that will obtain 128 subnets with this CIDR calculation. • 8. The Impact of Large Aircraft on Aircraft Management Essay According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) aircraft certification, a large aircraft refers to an aircraft of more than 12,500 pounds which is the maximum certificated takeoff weight. The heaviest and largest aircraft in the world have a maximum takeoff weight of over 600 tons. Since larger aircraft have greater capacity, as well as advanced technological features, airport management needs to make changes that cater to their operation. The first reaction of management at large airports was to restrict the new, large aircraft by assigning them to specific terminals, routes and runways. This new standard calls for taxiways and runways to be widened, along with taxiways to taxiways and the runways to taxiways. Although the arrival of these new aircraft has eased airport congestion and continues to meet passenger needs, it presents numerous challenges for airport management. As a result, various changes have been made and others are to be put into effect. The super jumbo is 400,000 pounds heavier, 11 feet longer, 41 feet wider and 15 feet taller than Boeing jumbo jets (Yeamans, 2006). This aircraft, then, requires longer and wider landing space, and airport management has increased airport pavement areas. Where existing land did not allow for expansion, additional land has been identified and new airports constructed. Similarly, the increase in the number of passengers has created a need for more gate hold rooms. New, large aircraft have significantly affected passenger flow, in terms of the queuing network system (Chiu and Walton, 2003). In some airports, adjacent gates may not operate when large planes, such as the super jumbo and the A380, are loading and unloading. For flow assurance the pipeline needs to be cleared of debris and checked for defects, tasks pigs were designed for. The pig needs a method of entering and exiting the pipeline, so a mobile or fixed launcher and receiver are utilised depending on the exact requirements. Pig Launching and Receiving Basics A pig launcher and receiver, also known as a pig trap, are equipment designed to pump in the pig through the pipeline system and to retrieve the pig at the end of the operation. They can be mobile (pigging of construction section) or fixed in the pipeline system. The location of the launcher is located at the upstream end of the pipeline system, near the pump or compressor, while the receiver is at the end of the system. The launcher can be installed in a horizontal, vertical or inclined position. Most are installed horizontally to ease the operation and it is therefore the most preferable. This anxiety is expressed in ambivalent feelings about the body. Steve Jobs co founder of Apple and his non text book approach to an autocratic managing style, CEO of Google Eric Schmit and his laissez faire catastrophe and Ricardo Semler CEO of SEMCO and his participative ways that surprisingly seem to be working. All run in different markets and have created their own rules to follow. They are the companies paving the way and demonstrating how to be successful in traditional ways but with their own twist. Each company has its own way of nabbing the spotlight from competitors. Apple is intensely secretive about its products, so secretive that not even the workers know what they are working on. This gives Apple a leg up on competitors, when they came up with the iPhone design nobody knew what they were up to, and then it took other companies trying to steal apples spot light longer to come up with a product similar. Apple is not like every other company in the same market, like Microsoft, instead they stepped out of the norm. Everything is created in house and while some products work with others like iPods and PC, they will work best with apple products. This creates customer loyalties: if someone buys a Mac is most likely going to buy an iPhone or an iPod. It is unlike any other computer company. Microsoft for example has to get other companies to create hardware or software to be compatible with its products. Apple operates within its self, making it the firm to beat. Google is still going strong, but growth has been decreasing instead of increasing. With the amount of employees they turn over, they have to hire back. There has to be a high amount of training with the numbers of workers they loose on a monthly or even weekly basis. Google still has something going for them, and that is the amount of programs they run. , just to name a few: Gmail, Google apps, Google maps, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 31. Where Worlds Collide By Pico Iyer Where Worlds Collide is an essay by Pico Iyer who talks about the expectations and reality of Los Angeles through the perspectives of travelers from different backgrounds. In Where Worlds Collide, Pico Iyer argues that even though Los Angeles is depicted as a vicinity to receive wealth, happiness, and many opportunities it is actually the antithesis, and instead, many harsh prejudice and unending craziness will occur instead; Iyer argues this by using allusions, anaphoras, and juxtapositions to help convey what he is saying. In the beginning of this passage, Iyer starts off with a lively and narrative tone to introduce a biblical allusion in the first paragraph; Iyer explains how many travelers come out from the airplane to reach their final destination, the Promised Land. This allusion sparks an interest to the readers because Iyer is referring to the Los Angeles International Airport as the Promised Land. Throughout the essay, Iyer refers to the LAX as the Land of Opportunity Iyer is using these two allusions to help paint a picture of what the LAX means to these naive travelers, a place filled with hopes and dreams. These allusions help correspond to the jubilance of the author s tone and helps keep the writing capture the author s passion about his story. Later in Iyer s passage, he uses anaphoras to help solidify the hectic attributes of the LAX, which contradicts the supposed Promised Land. Iyer describes how the second thing that the travelers see is that [i]n front of them is a Van Stop, a Bus Stop, a Courtesy Tram Stop, and a Shuttle Bus Stop... (101). The repetition of stop is utilized to show that all of these stops are bombarding their way through towards the travelers just as if everything is going out of control. The scenery that Iyer is depicting is about a hectic airport, not about a Promised Land. Iyer includes more anaphoras as he talks about how [t]hey have already braved the ranks of Asian officials, the criminal looking security men in jackets... They already, perhaps, visited the restroom where someone has written, Yes on Proposition 187. Mexicans go home... (101). The anaphoras being used in this example shows the repetition of they have and the emphasis of this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Reyes 14095156B Stream B Submitted to: Anika Vats Date: May 13, 2015 Part A Question 1: Which strategic action Disney took in terms of consumer focused initiative? Give examples. (15 marks) In 1992, Euro Disney was launched in Paris. This project unexpectedly received undesirable feedback from its target market since the company wrongly assumed that it would be easily accepted by the Western European market. Disney received criticisms and negative publicity as they were thought to have brought American imperialism into Europe and the French government acquired farmland just to create the theme park which resulted to protests from the French farmers. Cultural issues also arose as most of its employees did not accept well the management style and the dress code, the customers were not satisfied with the language used in the theme park, with the ban of alcohol consumption, the pricing of tickets and merchandise, etc. The company learned that they had to be aware and have a full understanding of the culture of their host nation and apply it to the operations of the theme park; and this is the main strategic action that they had to pursue in order to capture the desires and interest of their customers. As a result, Euro Disney was changed to Paris Disneyland to strengthen the identity and nationalism of the theme park in relation with its host nation, France, and in turn the French were ... • 36. The On The Other Hand, Parole, By De Saussure On the other hand, parole refers to the use of the langue the action in and of itself. It occurs in the phenomenon of language as a sequence of speech. Parole, which includes both written and spoken languages utilized in everyday life, is extremely diverse and varied dependent upon the number of people attempt to use a common language. In addition, de Saussure noted the constant change that parole undergoes as social groups, and age of users manipulate the language over time. De Saussure s interpretation of the underlying basis of language also included a composition of signs as opposed to sentences. Signs consist of two parts: a notion and a sound/written pattern. Without a sound, the notion is incommunicable. Similarly, without a notion, sound patterns are just noise. Without a comprehensive understanding of langue, parole is a meaningless collection of sounds or symbols grouped together at random. By understanding the relationship between the two parts of a sign, langue and parole create meaning. Therefore, de Saussure spoke heavily on the importance of understanding the langue of a language, especially a foreign one, than to grow the vocabulary of parole. By approaching a nonnative language as such, the speaker increases his or her ability to make sense equal to that of a native speaker. Language acts as a link that allows thought to be expressed through sound. As thoughts become more coherent, thus leading to the creation of sounds in words and phrases, language ... Is one of the main ideas expressed throughout Eureka a Prose Poem in which Edgar Allan Poe expresses his thoughts on the creation and purpose of the universe (Poe). As a writer Poe has been known to be a man of the arts, a poet. Eureka is truly one of its own among Poe s works, especially since it was his last major work before his death(. A Prose Poem he called it. Although he was not expectant of his death, Eureka seems to be his last testament of what he believes is the collective universe. Not surprisingly, God has the same occupation in the universe as his, God is a writer. As a man of thought he left this earth with a final testament to the world in which he wishes to explain the universe for all those who seek the truth (Poe Preface).Eureka is not only an explanation of Poe s understanding of life based on his experiences; but a reassurance that all creations in the universe have a reason for existence. ... • 39. Stephen King Influences Stephen King is one of today s most popular and best selling horror writers. King combines the elements of psychological chills and paranormal. He loves to mess with the heads of his readers, often making them feel sorry for his characters, such as in stories of Carrie and The Green Mile, which both exhibit supernatural factors. King also tends to fancy writing from a viewpoint that the readers can get into. The vast majority of King s stories occur in places his American readers can relate to personally. It is uncommon to walk the streets and converse with someone who has not heard the name of Stephen King. King s novels, as well as his movies, are widely known throughout American culture. King s writing style has evolved throughout the years ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of King s most famous works, and its fame is partly because of the movie, is the Green Mile. It has many Christian qualities throughout. The Green Mile, a large, African American man named John Coffey, seems to mirror the life of Jesus Christ, although the story is set in the death row area of a depression era prison ( The Writing Style of Stephen King, para 35). The story really hits home with people about the selflessness of Jesus Christ. For Christians and people who have a general idea of the Bible, they will understand this story. John Coffey was prosecuted for from something he did not do. He was a healer of the sick. He used supernatural powers to help the sick, as he heals one of the Ward s wife who has a brain tumor towards the end of the novel. In The Green Mile, King uses magical realism to introduce his readers to supernatural elements taking place in an ordinary realistic environment (The Writing Styles of Stephen King para 20). In life we can experience things that do not seem real even though they can happen is why it is magical to us. Sometimes people feel like they are accused of things do not do and have to get punished for it, just as Coffey was.
