When Writing An Essay
Crafting an essay on the topic "When Writing An Essay" is undoubtedly a paradoxical endeavor.
On the one hand, you're delving into the very process you're engaged in, creating a narrative
about the complexities and intricacies inherent in the act of essay composition. This self-
reflective nature brings forth a unique challenge – how do you discuss the challenges of
writing without falling into a recursive loop of meta-commentary?
Furthermore, the task involves a delicate balance of providing insightful guidance without
becoming overly prescriptive. The writer must navigate the fine line between offering helpful
tips and acknowledging the subjectivity of the writing process. This requires a nuanced
approach, considering the diverse array of writing styles, preferences, and individual challenges
faced by each writer.
The challenge intensifies when you contemplate the meta-awareness required to tackle the
nuances of essay writing. It involves not just discussing the mechanics of constructing an essay
but also delving into the psychological and emotional dimensions. The writer must grapple with
the constant interplay of ideas, revisions, self-doubt, and the perpetual quest for clarity and
coherence.
In addition, there's the irony of attempting to articulate the inherent difficulties of essay writing
without succumbing to clichГ©s or resorting to overly complex language that might alienate
readers. Striking the right tone becomes crucial – conveying the struggle without
romanticizing it, acknowledging the frustration without overshadowing the ultimate satisfaction
of creating a well-crafted piece.
As one navigates this intricate terrain, it becomes apparent that the essay about essay writing is
not just an intellectual exercise but an exercise in self-awareness. It demands a writer's
introspection, an exploration of one's own writing journey, and an ability to distill universal
truths from personal experiences.
In conclusion, the difficulty in writing an essay on "When Writing An Essay" lies in the
paradoxical nature of the task. It requires a writer to traverse the recursive landscape of self-
reflection, offer guidance without being overly prescriptive, and navigate the delicate balance
between acknowledging individuality and providing universal insights.
If grappling with this challenge feels overwhelming, it's worth noting that assistance is available.

Global Counter Insurgency And The War On Terror
Is global counter insurgency a viable strategy in the war on terror ?
After the 9/11 attacks in the United States, the War on Terror was the strategy that the
Bush government developed with the aim to defeat the organization that had
accomplished this attack, Al Qaeda. The immediate response of the Bush
Administration after the attack was the invasion of Afghanistan, with the goal of
eliminating and expel the targets that had made the country their sanctuary. This
group was presented as the main threat of the 21st century, and as the enemy at the
global scale. However, the idea of the War on Terror did not employ only in the
Afghan context, the Islamic terrorist threat was spread through nine principal theatres

With the lessons learned in these areas, Galula returned to France in 1956, the year in
which the country was immersed in the Algerian war, which led him to request a
command therein. It was here that Galula implemented for the first time their
knowledge of COIN.
Galula theory is based on the support of the population, an element that is recovered
in the doctrine developed by Petraeus. This is divided between an active minority
supporting the insurgency, an active minority who would be willing to support the
force or forces that promote measures COIN, and finally, a large majority of the
population passive (FM 3 24, 2006: 1 20). The aim of COIN operations would
therefore gain the support of the active minority that is potentially in their favour, so
that this in turn get mobilized the passive majority of the population against the
insurgent group. Besides military measures to reduce and eliminate the insurgent
forces, for the author it is essential to isolate the population of these groups, in order
to avoid a possible mobilization of the same against the interests of the COIN. This
will require removing the alleged political organization that insurgent groups have
developed in that area, and replace it forces an interim basis to ensure the necessary
services in the area, and thus add up support within the local population.
Based on the classic definition of the term, the insurgency is defined as organized
movements aimed at overthrowing a
Research Paper On Antinomianism
I enjoyed your post since I had to complete effective research in order to provide a
respectable response. The research lead myself to discover that I m not an
antinominalist for many different reasons. Moreover, I respect your honesty as it
pertains to you aligning yourself as an antinominalist. Antinomianism will eventually
lead to complete chaos in society since there are many people that in general generate
immoral decisions. Therefore, we as humanity must live with a standard.
Furthermore, biblically, the common picture of the antinomian is someone who
thinks that, because of Christ s forgiveness, they can (and will) do whatever they
want: self indulgence, sexual deviancy, substance abuse, lewd music, and the like
(Mockingbird, 2015).
The Female Sex Is A Crucial Part Of Creation And...
In all aspects of nature, the female sex is a crucial part of creation and development
of offspring. In Frankenstein, Mary Shelley explores the significance of women to
the protagonist, Victor Frankenstein , as he surpasses the woman s role in the
production of life. Besides the major themes of abandonment and loss in the novel
Frankenstein, there is an ironic focus on the female role throughout the plot. The
disregard of women s roles in society and by Frankenstein show the importance that
these women actually played on his life. Frequently, the passive actions and ideally
domestic expressions of women s actions led to some of the largest events of the
novel that affected Victor Frankenstein the greatest. Through three important female...

She showed a uncommon amount of independence for this time period. Not only
did she provide care and tenderness for her gravely ill father, but the author also
mentions how she had to find ways to financially support herself and her father as
well. She procured plain work; she plaited straw; and by various means contrived
to earn a pittance scarcely sufficient to support life. (Shelley). The irony of this
situation is greatly marked by the death of her father. At this time period, it was
very uncommon and not socially acceptable for women to be independent. But
when the death of her father came, Frankenstein described how his father came
like a protecting spirit to this poor girl and how he took Caroline away and placed
her under the protection of a relation (Shelley). The likeliness of this situation
sounds greatly exaggerated. For months, Caroline took the financial burden upon
herself. Not only did she tend to her father during his illness, but she was forced to
take her extra time to support them both. Frankenstein depicts Alphonse as
rescuing Caroline after her father passed, and portraying her as a kind of damsel
in distress who is unable to care for herself. When in reality, she had already proven
that she was adequately able to care for herself and another. After Alphonse rescues
Caroline from where she was left to fend for herself, he takes her to live with his
family where they will take care of

Uncovered Controversies In Shakespeare s Richard III
Shakespeare Uncovered Controversies in His Writings Shakespeare s Richard III
was written in approximately 1592. The play portrays the way Richard obtained
the thrown and how his reign quickly came to an end after only two years. He
illustrates the War of Roses and the division between the Lancaster and York houses,
which eventually came to a close when the first Tudor king came to power. This play
was published during the Elizabethan Era, which is the time period distinguished by
Elizabeth I s supremacy over England. The era is characterized by literature, drama,
and Renaissance ideology. While Elizabeth I enjoyed theater and drama, she was
protective over the monarchy s image and opposed anything that threatened its social
order. Queen Elizabeth... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is because of Elizabeth s love of the arts that Shakespeare was able to cover more
controversial topics in his writings. Tudor Dynasty was written by Tom Streissguth,
who earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Yale University. In his article, Streissguth
analyzes the development of the Tudor line and explains the reign of Elizabeth I. He
mentions how Elizabeth encouraged playwrights, musicians, and poets and that
talented men such as William Shakespeare... flourished during the Elizabethan Age
(Streissguth). Shakespeare s popularity and praise enabled him to expose the
corruption of the monarchy without any trouble from the queen. In Richard III,
Richard deceives the townspeople by pretending to be religious and commits
multiple murders, including his young nephews by simply stating, I wish the
bastards dead, and I would have it suddenly performed (4.2.20 21). In this play,
Shakespeare uncovers the political corruptness and murder completed by those with
power. However, since Queen Elizabeth I admired and appreciated the arts,
Shakespeare was able to write about controversial topics, such as dishonesty on the
The Women s Liberation Movement Essay
In the attempt to gain equality for women across gender barriers in all aspects of
society, the battle that women have had to endure throughout history has been
anything but peaceful. Particularly in the United States, the women s liberation
movement is an example of how women in the U.S. took a stance to protest for
their civil and reproductive rights, domestic violence issues, women s suffrage, and
sexual harassment and gender based violence that is inflicted upon women on a
daily basis. This movement was full of women passionate for gender based equality
in the U.S, however this feminist movement was not as easy to join if you were a
black woman. A reason for this hardship was because of the racial conflict and
tension that is experienced by African Americanpeople living in the United States that
is dated back to the inhumane implantation of slavery. Racismin America is the result
of the white social construction of identity and the perpetrated norm of the otherness.
The marginalization of disclosing black women from the U.S. women s liberation
movement demonstrates an explicit example of how the attempt to protest for gender
equality was overshadowed by a racialized closed door way of thinking. Therefore,
this essay will closely examine the feminist liberation movement in the United States
and explain the hardships and racial struggles that black women had to endure in their
attempt to join this movement. It will look from a different angle towards this

Common Sense Thomas Paine
In the essay Common Sense, Thomas Paine made various arguments for the
American colonies to break away from England. One of the arguments mentions the
loss America faces when Great Britain is at war with other countries. Due to the
connection between America and Great British, whoever is at war with Great Britain
will also stop trading with America, thus affects America s economy negatively. In
addition, Great Britain s enemy also sees America as their enemy due to their
connection. Though America wanted to remain neutral in most of the cases, and that
it is not the actions of America that made America other countries enemy, but it is
solely because of the connection with Great Britain, America is also viewed as the
enemy. Both of these arguments mentions the negative effects the connection with
Great Britain had caused, not only does it ruin America s economy, but it could also
damage America s relationship with other foreign countries. Paine also mentions how

Waterlily Analysis
Waterlily by Ella Cara Deloria begins with a woman named Bluebird giving birth
to a child named Waterlily while away from the caravan. The story shifts to a
memory from Bluebird s childhood about how she lost her family to a possibly raid
or attack by another tribe while gathering supplies. However, the only other living
relative happens to be her grandmother. Later, Bluebird and her grandmother set off
to find a neighboring tribe. Eventually, Bluebird meets a young man named Star Elk.
Bluebird goes on to marry Waterlilys father, Star Elk, who happens to be a terrible
husband. However, Bluebird remarries Rainbow. The story finally shifts to focus
solely on Waterlily. During her childhood, Waterlily and her family
are invited to
attend a Sun Dance. Also, she witness her cousin, Leaping Fawn, participating in a
Virgin s fire and learning the proper way to accept a marriage. Eventually, Waterlily is
brought by Sacred Horse because she felt that she must fulfill these obligations due
to her family. However, Waterlily has a hard time adjusting to her new life and the
new role she has to play. Waterlily begins to miss her family and people but she
finds a sense of comfort with Red Leaf s parents. She is finally able to relax with
people she can relate to. Back at camp, an outbreak of smallpox spreads throughout
the tiyospaye due to buffalo blankets. Sadly, Sacred Horse catches the sickness and
requests to die alone. Leaving a pregnant Waterlily without a husband. Waterlily and

The courts gave limits to the application of section 49(2) by giving that the proof
lies on the person or accused (arrester) depending on the guardians of section 49(2),
to show that his or her action fell in the that particular section. The state had to show
proof the root of the offence committed goes beyond a sensible uncertainty.
The courts specified that section 49 needed a severer test, and that, that section
shouldn t be given a open minded meaning but rather, it should and must be
interpreted and practiced but with limits against the person that wants to depend on it
(Burchell, 1997).
In Section 49, as it used to be, it was used by the law implementation agencies as a
free means to kill people. It was often seen as a discriminatory root most especially
to the blacks mostly on the receiving end. The continuation of this so called licence to
kill people wasn t a surprising issue, this was because the criminal justice system back
then wasn t liable to the constitutional system that respected the expected human
rights, especially the right to bodily integrity and the right to life.

elimination of death penalties. If the state doesn t have any right to take a suspect s

D6T thermal sensor and People Counting Algorithm
In this thesis work, a new indoor people counting algorithm is created by using
Omron D 6T thermal sensor and Raspberry Pi. The sensor periodically generate
thermal map of heat emitted in its field of view which is a one dimension array and
pass the array to Raspberry for further processing. The people counting algorithm is
created in Raspberry Pi by processing thermal map generated by D6T. After
processing the number of people indoor is obtained. This chapter presents the
hardware structure used including D6T thermal sensor and Raspberry Pi, moreover
the people counting algorithm is discussed in detail.

The devices connected with I2C bus are either master nodes or slave nodes. The
master node generates the clock and initiates communication with slaves while the
slave node receives clock signal and give a response to the master when its address
is requested. It is necessary to stress that I2C bus is a multi master bus which
means any number of master nodes can be attached. Usually a bus device operates
in one or two modes of four modes operation which are master transmit, master
receive, slave transmit and slave receive. Initially the master starts master transmit
mode by sending a start bit followed by the address of the slave it wished to
communicate with, after this a command would be sent and tells the slave whether
it would write or read from the slave. If the slave exists on the bus and it will shake

Public Service Broadcasting In Australia
There is no doubt that the proliferation of digital media has placed great stress on the
already fragile status of public service broadcasting (Miragliotta and Errington, 2012).
The convergent media environment alongside restraints on funding and skeptic views
regarding their necessity have posed great challenges altering the role of public
service broadcasters in the 21st century. However, there are many signs pointing
toward a renewed government commitment within the Australian sector, to suggest
that what the digital revolution has brought is not only challenges but also
opportunities (Spigelman, 2013). By examining the recent movements of the
Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) in addition to specific reference of the
Special Broadcasting Company (SBS) this essay shall seek to address the current
debate surrounding the necessity of public service broadcasters in the 21st century.
To this day, the charter written by John Reith, the first director general of the British
Broadcasting Company (BBC) in 1926, is believed to have established the principles
governing public service broadcasting. John Reith first set out his ideas about how

Much like traditional forms of media, public service broadcasting was feeling the
effects of the Internet on their audience. Skepticism from the government,
commercial media and the general public posed questions surrounding the necessity
for the ABC to exist in the 21st century arguing that in such a convergent age of
media production and content, the original principles governing public service
broadcasting were both inadequate and inconsistent. In order for the ABC to combat
these challenges, associated with pessimistic questioning, the corporation underwent
significant restructuring of their internal operations with cuts to budgets and jobs,
and reviews to increase their internal efficiency (Miragliotta and Errington,

The distinctions between Virginians, Pennsylvanians, New Yorkers, and New

1774 after the Boston Tea Party.) American colonists gave everything for
independence. While independence did not come immediately, many events triggered
the Revolutionary war and eventual forming of the Nation we call home. Colonists
banded together through oppression and tyranny caused by the British. Prior to the
Boston Tea Party, the colonists quietly adhered to Britain s rules and taxations. Over
time, angst and anger built up which erupted into the iconic Boston Tea Party. Men
came together as brothers in the light of independence and nationalism for their
country. The Boston Tea... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Initially the battle of Lexington took place quickly followed by the battle of

America had some steep casualty figures. Approximately 4,400 people were killed

data was approximately 4 million people. The number of people is small compared to
the giant British Empire. The patriotism and nationalism was important because
Britain started to see America as strong, no matter how small in numbers and
Literary Devices In Richard Cory
The narrative poem, Richard Cory , written in 1893 by the poet Edwin Arlington
Robinson, narrates the story of Richard Cory, a fictional character, a man who
seems to have it all. The people in the town belong to lower financial class and seem
to worship him because of his position, they look up to him and they want to be like
him. Richard Corytakes his own life at the end of the poem, which shows, that
appearance and money cannot buy happiness or fulfillment. This poem is narrated
in the third person plural, where we represents the citizens of the small town in
which Richard Cory resides and where he is considered part of the royalty for his
wealth and well educated self. The title of this poem suggests Richard s destiny;
because according to the meaning the name, Richard derives from German, French
and English Ric (ruler, leader, king, powerful) and Hard (strong, brave, hardy) and it
therefore means strong in rule the perfect name for the perfect guy. Robinson had a
rough childhood, since he described his own childhood as stark and unhappy which
led his poetryto have a huge amount of dark pessimism within each line. Robinson
utilizes literary devices in his composition such as, connotations that suggest to the
reader that Richard Cord belongs to the royalty. He mentions sole to crown, (3)
imperially slim, (4) and schooled in every grace, (10), this connotation emphasizes
Richard s position as local royalty and portrays him as the ideal man. The poem
Types Of Major Depressive Disorder
Major Depressive Disorder, to me, was a mental disease that meant you were sad.
Before learning about it in class, I believed it meant crying, and staying in bed all
day. I did not know why it happened, or think there was any connection with it and
biology. I witnessed multiple people look down at the disorder as a sign of
weakness. As I socialized with these individuals, I found myself connecting what
they said to the disorder. I, personally, did not believe it to be a sign of weakness
but because I knew others did, that s what came to mind. Apparently, it was also a
poor man s disease. I had a friend who did not believe that privileged people were
allowed to be depressed. I was exposed to a lot of the stigma that comes with
mental illness. Unfortunately, that clouded my contact with the reality of the
disorder. Through reading on the disorder, and the psychology classes I have
taken, I was able to push past the stigma and what I was socialized to believe. I
disregard the saying that it s just a sign of weakness, and people just need to get
over it. I learned that anyone can be affected by the disorder, even someone who is
privileged, and lives a comfortable life. It is not always an environmental
/sociocultural cause, but can be a more chemical/biological response. This definitely
reinforced my disapproval of the stigma on major depressive disorderand encouraged
me to fight against it.
According to the DSM 5, a major depressive disorder is being in a depressed/sad

Authenticity
Final Draft: Slater vs Turkle
How can Turkle s concept of authenticity help us see Slater in a new way?
Both face to face interaction and social networking sites (including Myspace,
Twitter, and Facebook) are forms of staying in contact with friends and family.
While Nora from Turkle s Alone together communicates her engagement and
wedding date via email to her closest friends and family, she could have easily
announced it face to face, at a party or through a Facebook event. While there are
many ways of communicating information, the authenticity of these interactions as
well as its importance is up for debate. For Turkle, face to face interaction is to social
networking as the tortoise is to the robot: some can be moved by ... Show more

The changes are for one temporary: in simply adjust[ing] the settings, turning the
frequency, current, and pulse up or down, one can go from feeling revved to
having a peculiar wash of sadness. (Slater, pages 2 3) In evening Mario out in such
a way, it is clear that psychosurgery is inducing superficial changes that lead to
inauthentic interactions. Even the wife notes the extraordinary change in Mario,
remarking You re like the Energizer Bunny upon seeing him go from a person who
would back up at the sight of golden smear of shit to one who can now hear her
breathe...unafraid to hold her hand. (Slater, pages 1 3) The dramatic nature of these
temporary changes is in fact what is most troubling. In Who Holds the Clicker,
Heath performs electrode surgery on a homosexual man. By firing electrodes in his
pleasure center while having him watch movies of heterosexual encounters, he is
able to turn said man (identified as B 19) into a newly made man (Slater, pages
1)within 17 days. Although the electrode surgery on the homosexual man was
supposed to be a good deed, in actuality the homosexual man did not conserve his
individuality. As such, one can see that striving to forge face to face interaction
comes at the expense of yourself. In contrast, technology like Skype, Facebook and/or
texting enables human beings to clearly present themselves on their social networks
while allowing human beings to create or keep connections with others. Facebook

The Presence Of A Gun Essay
Scholars have often debated whether guns influence an individual to commit a
violence act. It is hypothesized that an individual in the presence of a firearm, has an
increased likelihood of exhibiting anti social behaviors. The studies presented, will
investigate whether the presence of a gun, is a stimulus for aggressive behaviors
(Berkowitz Lepage, 1967; Anderson, Benjamin Bartholow, 1998; Bartholow,
Anderson, Carnagey Benjamin, 2005). Studies regarding whether gunownership
influences the likelihood of abnormal behaviors in adolescence will be examined
(Cunningham, Henggler, Limber, Melton Nation, 2000; Sprinkles, 2007). Gun
ownership rates and various violent acts will also be investigated, such as homicide
rates and suicide rates (Hemenway Miller, 2000; Killias, Van Kesteren
Rindlisbacher, 2001; Gius, 2009; Siegel, Ross King, 2013). Extrinsic factors
including race/ethnicity, culture, and the environment will additionally be addressed
(Cunningham et al., 2000; Sprinkles, 2007; Rajan, Namdar Ruggles, 2015). After all
research has been analyzed, it will be apparent that the presence of a firearmis
correlated to aggressive behaviors. Before delving into gun ownership rates, it is
important to discuss the history of experiments regarding gun presence and
aggression. An early experiment conducted by Berkowitz Lepage (1967), investigated
whether the presence of a weaponelicited hostile behaviors. The study observed 100
male students, who were attending
Key Leaders During The Chicano Movement
During the Chicano Movement, there were many different key leaders that helped
the movement. These key leaders were Rodolfo Corky Gonzales, Reies Tijerina,
and Cesar Chavez. These men were famous for many things. Such as, writing
poems in order to help the Mexican Americans to making organizations to unite
and help everyone. Going on strikes so their voices can be heard. Although, the
Chicano Movement was a movement in order for Mexican Americans to get civil
rights not everyone in the Movement had a voice. For example, Chicanas. They
were being silent and didn t have the same rights as Chicanos. They didn t have the
right to decide if they want to use birth controls, that was being decided for them.
Also, during the blowouts in East Los Angeles there were many women who were
leaders during these blowouts and their voices weren t being heard just because
they were woman. In the reading, Political Roots of Chicano Discourse by Silvio
Torres Saillant mentions an important key leader of the Chicano Movement, this
key leader is Rodolfo Corky Gonzales. He is famous for writing the poem I Am
Joaquin in 1967 that was written for the Chicano Movement. Rodolfo Gonzales had
many passions in his life, he was enrolled in college but wasn t able to continue his
education so he went on to work on other things. Silvio Torres Saillant mentions, he

The NHL draft, once beyond the second round, can be likened to shooting fish in a

your organization s development plan. And that s not to say the development plan is
all that shapes the player. There are many other intangibles and personal factors that

The Discovery Of The Apollo
When it comes to exploring new horizons there is always an inherent danger that
comes with it. Whether it was Christopher Columbus and his venture to the new
world, Lewis and Clark and there exploration of the American west, or the
Astronauts who were the first to travel where no man had gone before. All of these
people accepted the risk that comes with the adventure they were embarking on.
The Apollo program was the world s most ambitious project ever taken on. When
John F. Kennedy proposed the idea of placing a man moon by the end of the 1960 s
this was an extremely bold ultimatum too all of those involved in the space program.
As we all know NASA achieved the goal when Apollo 11landed on the moon in
1969. After America had accomplished this goal and beat the Soviet Union to the
moon and then repeated the result on Apollo 12, Americans began to question why
there tax dollars were being used to fund something after the goal had already been
accomplished. And then came the near disaster of Apollo 13that re ignited American
interest in space travel. Apollo 13 was a successful failure, while it did not achieve
its goal of landing on the moon, it showed how good NASA s people as well as
their space crafts were, in that they were able to return the crew safely after such a
catastrophic failure on the space craft, which was the NASA s finest hour.
Pre Launch
Apollo 13 was set to launch on April 11, 1970 at 1:13 pm or 13:13 in military time.
The mission was to land and explore
Push And Pull Factors In The Balkan Peninsula
The Balkan Peninsula is a region located in southern Europe. The northern dividing
line of the Balkan Peninsula consists of the Kupa, Sava, and Danube rivers. This
region is surrounded by the Black Sea to the east, the Mediterranean and Marmara
Seas to the south, and the Adriatic Sea to the west. Examples of physical features in
the Balkan Peninsula are the many forested mountain ranges that occupy the region,
including the Balkan Mountains, the Dinaric Alps, and the Rhodope Mountains, the
varied climate ranging from cold, snowy winters in the northern mountains, to a
warm, humid climate characteristic of the Mediterranean, as well as fertile soil,
especially in the plains, and diverse plants and wildlife throughout the region, such as
the endangered Balkan lynx. Some examples of human characteristics that make this

The Balkan Peninsula is extremely diverse, and is home to more than 70.5 million
people. Examples of pull factors for this region are that Greece is the 9th largest
tourist destination in Europe in 2014, causing more people to want to visit, many of
the countries in the Balkan peninsula, especially Greece and Turkey, have historical
significance such as buildings or artwork, and the warm Mediterranean beaches
known for sailing and tourists as well as numerous mountain ranges that attract skiers
are definitely pull factors for this region. Some examples of push factors that act
against the Balkans are that the economy at its lowest in that area, and unemployment
is very high, and most Balkan countries have a low standard of living relative to the
majority of Europe. In conclusion, the Balkan peninsula is a very diverse,
mountainous region in southeastern Europe with numerous characteristics and push

Tort Essay.
The but for test, although it often yields the right answer, does not always do so.
Use the airline case in the conclusion Causation has been subject to copious
amounts of judicial and academic debate over the last six decades. The trend being
that but for causation is good as far as it goes, but it does not go far enough and
there is a need to modify its structure in cases that do not have a simple yes or no
answer to causation. This essay explores the development of the but for test s
modification through the case law specifically the exception in Fairchild and other
cases relating to asbestos exposure as well as briefly considering the reaction of the

Over the course of employment the respondent had been exposed to two sources of
this dust; swing grinders and pneumatic hammers, the latter being an innocent
exposure and the former being negligent. Due to uncertainty as to which exposure
was the actual cause of the disease the normal but for test would be unworkable.
Lord Reid gave the leading judgement in the case and avoided the issues of the but
for test by creating the Wardlaw test of material contribution to injury
It appears to me that the source of his disease was the dust from both sources, and the
real question is whether the dust from the swing grinders materially contributed to the
disease.
He went on to say:
A contribution which comes within the exception de minimis non curat lexis not
material, but I think that any contribution which does not fall within that exception
must be material
From his lordships judgement it is clear that the claimant only has to demonstrate that
the guilty dust had made a material contribution to the disease, which they did.
The next case to discuss is McGhee v National Coal Board here the claimant
developed dermatitis while working in brick kilns and being exposed to dust and
ash. There was medical evidence to suggest that the risk of developing dermatitis
would be materially reduced if the claimant had the chance to shower, washing off
the dust. This case is different to Wardlaw in the sense that the negligence wasn t a
cause in the same way

Stanley Milgram s The Perils Of Obedience
Obedience is a basic behavior that practically everyone has. Unfortunately, some
authority is essential for community living. In a way, obedience is a form of
submission as old as time itself. Society appears threatened by disobedience and
hesitation. In the experiments described in The Perils of Obedience , ethics and
hesitation get in the way of obedience. Unfortunately, this type of behavior displays
disobedience in the eyes of society. Stanley Milgram experimented, how much pain
an ordinary person would inflict on another person simply because he was ordered to
by an experimental scientist (62). The experiments have a wide variety of people

The experiments have a teacher, learner, and an experimenter. The learner is
positioned in a kind of small electric chair, and is strapped there. The teacher reads
off some word pairings to the learner, and if the learner is wrong, a shock is
administered. For each wrong answer, the shocks build, and become stronger. What
the teacher does not realize is that the learner is just an actor, making the teacher
appear naive. Even though the experimenter takes full responsibility of what happens
to the learner, the teacher feels horrible about their actions. The experiment causes
discomfort for both the teacher and the learner. As the shocks grow stronger, tension
begins to arise inside of the teacher. Hesitating slowly consumes the teacher, but the
experimenter commands him to pursue. After hesitation, the teacher s ethics get in
the way of what they are told to do. Even though the experimenter takes full
responsibility, the teacher still feels they have some responsibility for their actions. It
gets to the point where the disobedience starts to kick in. The teacher slowly starts to
say no to the experimenter out of pity for the learner. The experimenter tries his best
to make the teachers proceed with the experiment. Unfortunately, the vast majority
would go against their own conscience to please the experimenter. Even though the
majority know it was wrong and some even protested, but they are proud that they
did a decent job, and they pleased the
An Aristotelian Tragic Hero Is A Literary Character Who
An Aristotelian tragic hero is a literary character who makes a judgment that
ultimately leads to his or her own destruction. An example of a true Aristotelian
tragic hero is Creon from Sophocles play, Antigone. Creon is the tragic hero
because he goes through the five stages of a tragic hero which lead to his
destruction. His tragic flaw is him being afraid to admit that he has made a
mistake. He is too proud of his power and his ability to make laws which leads to
his son and wife committing suicide. In Woman at Point Zero, Cooke s remarks
about Firdaus being a tragic herocan be justified. Firdaus proves to be a tragic hero

Firdaus s free choice is to earn money and have some power by becoming a
prostitute. After Firdaus overhears Fawzy and Sharifa s conversation, she runs away
and decides to become a prostitute by herself.
The third characteristic of an Aristotelian tragic hero is the hero s downfall, which is
their fault and the result of their free choices. In reality, the tragedy is usually
produced by some error in judgment or their tragic flaw that subsidizes to the hero
s lack of perfection. This is also known as the Hamartia. Firdaus tragic flaw is her
not having faith in anyone. Her faith is her tragic flaw because she is a woman
who is always beaten by some male figure in her life; therefore, she never had to
have faith in anyone because she was abused and disappointed by others. When the
police officer grabs Firdaus by that arm and tells her to follow him to his house,
Firdaus utters, No... I have no trust in men any more (El Saadawi 83). This shows
that Firdaus doesn t rely on faith anymore. Also, because of the constant betrayal
in her life, Firdaus fears of developing a close relationship with anyone, including
the psychologist that she talks to. Firdaus reveals this as she struggles to explain
the heartache she felt when the one man she loved proved he did not love her back

The Happiest Day Of My Life
Is it ok if I m 5 years old and that I was very ignorant (I m much more educated now

gotten home from pre School. I gave my parents a kiss and told them how my day
went. Soon after that I told them I was hungry, so they made some platanos fritos
with some well done cow beef. After I ate my food, I went to my room and fell
asleep for about 2 hours.
It was now 3:59 PM, and unfortunately, I woke up to the sound of screaming, but it
was not that blood curdling scream you hear just before someone gets murdered in
a movie, it was more of a cheerful kind of scream. So, I ran down stairs to see what
all the commotion was about. I saw my two older brothers who were at the time 16
and 15 years old and my mom and dad. My father was holding some sort of cake in
his hands. He told me my mother and he had gone to Sam s club to buy a few things.
My brothers told me to go help get the rest of the food out of the van and that s
exactly what I didn t do. You could say I had ADHD at the time and maybe I still
do. I say this because I asked a million questions at the same time and started
jumping up and down about 200 to 300 times. Apparently, the only question they
understood out of all the 1million questions was What type of cake is that!? This is
what they told me It s cheese cake, and for goodness sake stop jumping up and

Bear Hunt Illustration
The children s book We re Going on a Bear Hunt utilises the switching between black
and white illustrations and full colour effectively. The pages of the story that are in
black and white occur when the family meet an obstacle, such as long wavy grass ,
and once they have overcome said obstacle the illustration returns to colour. It repeats
in this manner throughout the picture books entirety. In doing this, the illustrator has
emphasised the texts gloominess and foreboding of what the familywill have to do (
we have to go through it ).
The way this text has been structured by combining the aperture, exposition and
inciting moment. The first sentence We re going on a bearhunt tells the reader what
the story is going to entail whilst giving away what future conflict they could be if
the family were to find a bear. The exposition is also viewed here as the reader,
with the illustrations help, knows that we (the family) are who is involved and it is
a beautiful day in the country. Conflict rises steadily on every second page revealing
a new hurdle the family has to conquer (mud, lake etc) but is resolved immediately
until the climax when the big bear is found and is not happy to see them. As the ...

The Battle Of The War On Serbia
On July 28 of 1914, a small spark ignited the greatest conflict man kind had ever
seen. The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of the Austrian Hungarian
duel monarchy that led to it. It was an event that changed borders, destroyed
countries, and ended the lives of millions of people. On that day, Austria Hungary
officially declared war on Serbia as an act of revenge, though had ambitions to take
control of Serbian lands. This small event would have big consequences, not only
on the nations involved in the war, but on the people of those nations who had to
sacrifice so much. During the period immediately following the declaration of war
on Serbia, the quality of a person s life began to drop very rapidly. Pre industrial
warfare is difficult to endure, but when weapons are so deadly that they have the
ability to kill thousands in a day, the new warfare is unbearable. Though some in the
aftermath of the war would claim that a sense of patriotism or racial superiority drove
people to support the war, it is very clear that the general population of the time were
overwhelmingly opposed to the start and continuation of the fighting. It was the
propaganda of governments that pushed people into supporting the war, though once
the devastation was understood, that positivity morphed into terror. After Austria
Hungary had declared war on Serbia, Russia, an ally of Serbia, declared war on
Austria Hungary. Austria Hungary, however, anticipated this beforehand and had

Why Did The Soviet Union Fail
At the beginning of the Atomic Age, the Soviet Union was perhaps one of the
greatest superpowers in the world. By 1991, it had completely collapsed, splitting
into 15 independent states, each with their own unique national and cultural
identities. There were a multitude of factors that led to the Soviet Union s downfall.
Economic stagnation, anti communist sentiment, and nationalist movements finally
brought the collapse of communism in the Soviet Union.
When Mikhail Gorbachev became Secretary of the Communist Party, he had to deal
with an ailing and frail Soviet Union. The country had entered a state of serious
economic decline and the Soviet people, discontent with their political party, looked
to Gorbachev to solve their problems. Spurred by patriotic duty, Gorbachev
introduced democratic reforms known as perestroika and glasnost. These sought to
free businesses and Soviet peoples from harsh government regulation and censorship,
respectively. While Gorbachev believed these policies would strengthen the Soviet
government, this was not the case. Perestroika did not do anything to ... Show more

Naval Warfare Changes
Naval warfare has been adapting and changing to the technology of the time all
throughout the ages. Since the very first battles in the Aegean Sea, between Greek
galleys, to today s massive aircraft carriers, destroyers, and submarines; each
technological step has been taken to try to outdo the opponent. One major step that
naval warfare took was the transition from large numbers of muzzle loading cannons
on either side of the ship to turret guns. The transition from forty to fifty guns
cannons to twelve big guns at the most, had substantial impacts on several aspects of
naval operations. New changes in tactics had to be made to facilitate the use of only
a few guns that could point only one direction at a time. Maritime strategies had to be
adjusted to compensate for the newer, bigger, faster, and more power ships.
Procedures had to be changed to make manning the guns a specific job, but the
biggest impact that the implementation... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Technology always has and always will adapt to the tools of the war at hand. The tool
of war that caused a significant amount of technology adaptation was the gun turret,
which caused new steps to be taken in the fields of radar, automation, and

the case of gun turrets, tactics and technology had to make large changes in order to

One Tree Hill Analysis
One Tree Hill There are always stereotypes in high school. People are placed into
groups. You re a jock, you re a cheerleader, you re a freak, you re into the drama
department. I had a lot of trouble fitting into those groups when I was in high school
because I wanted to be a part of all of them. One Tree Hill represents people who are
multidimensional and who like more than one thing. Hilarie Burton, who plays
Peyton Sawyer, says it perfectly herself. One Tree Hillshows diversity among all. The
use of every stereotype is used in this series to allow every viewer feel as though
they have a place, making the show significant for young adult viewers especially.
The main characters in the show are all friends, yet they all have different interests.
Despite the drama, relatable for any high school viewer. While other shows place
teens into certain stereotypical groups, One Tree Hill does just the opposite by
allowing everyone to be themselves. Dissimilar from most shows on television and
stereotypes of high school, One Tree Hill does a substantial work of portraying the
diversity of all people by bringing all together.
Peyton Sawyer is not like any typical highschool girl. She is a cheerleader but also
enjoys making dark art. Naturally, she is in her room listening to punk rock music
and drawing. Peyton is pretty uncheery (if one asks Lucas Scott). Therefore, she
doesn t come off as the cheerleader type. The only reason that she is a cheerleader is
because her
The Writings Of Olaudah Equiano And Elizabeth Keckley
Autobiographical Similarities
The writings of Olaudah Equiano and Elizabeth Keckley are of the highest
admiration. As they spoke on their experiences with an intoxicating mixture of
vibrancy and precision, they allowed the reader to come along for the journey without
getting lost. Most commendable, is that the writers were able to leave subtle hints
that would foreshadow their fortunes meticulously in efforts to keep the readers
engaged. There is a vital point to highlight from the workings of both authors how
humble and vulnerable their writings maintained as they were written during the
peak of their success. Therefore, the common theme is how they foreshadow their
success without neglecting to pay homage to where they came from. ... Show more

In her first chapter appropriately named Where I was Born , Keckley mentions that
she was not only born a slave but refers to slavery in a unique way that offers a hint
of foreshadowing. She mentions I was but a child myself only four years old but
then I had been raised in a hardy school had been taught to rely upon myself, and to
prepare myself to render assistance to others (Gates Jr. Smith, 311). What is so
profound about that statement is that hardy school was a double entendre used to
refer to slavery. Hence, the idea that slavery taught her independence which she
carried with her throughout her life. As it pertains to her writing, slavery also
equipped her with the poise she presented both in her demeanor and in her work as
a renowned seamstress. Another detail that Equiano incorporated within his
writing, is the meaning of his name. As he says in the text I was named Olaudah,
which, in our language, signifies vicissitude or fortune also, one favoured, and
having a loud voice and well spoken (Gates Jr. Smith 121). Equiano was a man who
was the youngest born son to village leaders who owned slaves, became a captive
of slavery himself, briefly worked in the fields as a slave before following his
master overseas and ultimately buying his own freedom. What s most profound
throughout that, is the fact that he used his voice to help others who are stuck where
he was able to break free. PBS has an article where

The Death of Socrates was painted by a French painter . His name was Jacques
Louis David. The painting represents the scene of the death of Greek philosopher
Socrates. He was condemned to die by drinking hemlock for the expression of his
ideas against those of Athens and corrupting the minds of the youth. The painting

the latter clutching the knee of Socrates. Socrates had the choice to go into exile and

They may have made Socrates do that to save their own reputation. Having said that,

conservative those times meaning they could not , psychologically, accept new

Bond (2011) states, Along with enhancing cognitive performance, meditation seems
to have an effect on emotional well being (p. 1). I want to see how meditation has
helped others, and I want to see the research that has already been conducted.
Another purpose I have in this study is to be able to use meditation to help me
improve my relationships with others. Charoensukmongkol (2014) says, People who
regularly practice mindfulness meditation can easily develop the ability to detect
and understand the emotions of others (p. 3). It would be very beneficial to every
aspect of my life if I could find a way to understand the emotions of others more

Significance
This study is significant because stress can be detrimental to one s physical,
emotional, and mental health. Schreiner Malcolm (2008) suggests that, mindfulness
training is beneficial in reducing the symptoms of subclinical depression and
anxiety and can substantially reduce stress (p. 1). It is always important to find
ways to help manage and reduce daily stressors. I think that many people would care
about this study, because stress is something that everyone experiences throughout
their life in one way or another. Although stress is not always negative, most of the
time, it is. Most people would want to know how they could manage and reduce
their stress. I think that my study will make contributions of relief for those who are

Panda Bears Vs. Environment

Research Paper
October 15, 2015
Panda Bears vs Environment The population of giant pandas is decreasing so rapidly
that it has reached the point that they are considered an endangered species. These
black and white bears reside mainly in China where seventeen percent of the total
population of pandas reside. They are habituated in bamboo forests, which are not
only the panda s home, but also their main source of food. A panda s diet consists of
ninety percent bamboo and ten percent of mushrooms, insects, fish, plants and other
small rodents. These bamboo forests are being taken from them, because the human
population is constantly expanding and using their bamboo forests as land for
growing crops or to build roads. Combined with the natural dying on bamboo and
logging, these defenseless panda bears are forced to seek new areas and see whether
or not there is a sufficient amount of bamboo for them to consume, although many of
them fail to do so and end up dying of starvation instead. As of today, there are only
twenty nine diminished and fragmented areas that have the appropriate habitat to
support the remaining panda bears. China s pandas have been threatened with
extinction, suffered from low birth rates, and have been ridiculed by human s
interference with their habitat; now they are faced with another obstacle, starvation.
The climate change over the years has brought the extinction rate of the pandas to rise

This past year, the Board of Education approved a new position of Director of
Educational and Informational Technology. This was a needed improvement in our

This comes as a surprise as the budget was set early last school year, prior to Mrs.
Kozniewski taking the helm of this department. I was pleasantly surprised that
there was money in the budget for the addition to each school s computer
inventory. Each elementary school received a set of 30 Windows split screen
Notebooks to be housed on a cart to be signed out by teachers for classroom use. At
the middle school level, they have 300 laptops available in carts referred to as
C.O.W.s (Computers on Wheels). At the high schoollevel, they added a Mac lab to
be used primarily be the art department. They also provided the high school with
Chromebooks on a cart.
In addition to meeting with Mrs. Kozniewski, I had the opportunity to attend a
couple workshops she presented. One was on the use of Google Classroom and
the other one was on the updated version of PowerSchool called Power Teacher.
Through other courses and a summer workshop attended, I had been exposed to
Google forms, sheets, and other options Google has to offer. Google Classroom
was new to me and I was excited to learn about it and look forward to using this
technology in my classroom. The workshop gave information on how to log in, set
up my classroom and save various forms to a specific class. PowerSchool is new to
me. At the elementary level, I did not use this website. The workshop gave me the
foundation to start entering my grades

basketball. Growing up as child in Cambridge all you hear is stories about
basketball and the great tradition, reputation we have built to become the model of
a winning basketball, program over decades that seamlessly trout out great teams

passed on to each generation of kids in Cambridge very young because most likely

memorable run to the Boston garden. Playing in the semi finals against catholic

Looking back at this photo brings me back to 2011 when I was still just 16 years
old just dreaming about wearing the Cambridge jersey but I wasn t doing so well
with life. I was constantly getting into trouble with the law, not respecting authority,
not focusing on my education and not taking my basketball career seriously
everything was a joke to me I didn t believe I d make it this far in life there wasn t
much motivation to either, basketball was my only hope. It s hard to believe the kid

How Does Fatty Acid Contribute To The Production Of
Glucose
An individual engaged in vigorous exercise demands much more energy than a
sedentary individual. The supplied energy during a 100 meter sprint or a marathon
run comes at a cost, which is the production of ATP (Hill et al.). At the beginning of
exercise the body relies on the glycogen stores in muscle that aids in ATP production.
Eventually, glucoselevels in muscles begin to decrease as the activity continues, it s
also thought that insufficient glucose causes tiredness (Hill et al.) . Glucose must be
provided continuously in order to satisfy one s energy demands. Consequently,
glucose is delivered by blood to the muscles. Fatty acids also contribute to the
process of generating energy when glucose levels are low, which are broken down to
Compare And Contrast Michelangelo And Raphael
The Renaissance was a period in Europe civilisation that immediately followed the
Middle Ages. It was an era of cultural growth that was introduced in Italy and was
carried on throughout northern Europe lasting the 14th to 17th century. Many artists
and scholars of that time period believed that they were contributing in a revival of
the ideals and worth of the periods that arrive before them. The Renaissance period
open doors for individuals to rediscover one s will and obligations of observing the
environment. It was an opening for them to express themselves in human terms. They
shifted their interest from God centred to humans centred, known as Humanism. The
Renaissance had expanded into four periods which were classified as Early

It may also come from the location where both works were created, the Vatican
apartments, only blocks away from the Sistine Chapel. Raphael s painting showed
immense alikeness with Michelangelo and he was influenced by the work of his
senior, mainly the Prophets and Sibyls. When the painting of the Prophet of Isaiah
was executed by both artists, Raphael s Isaiah conveyed similar figural composition
and made it Michelangelo esque. The painting was self confined and the essence of
scroll in both paintings were present, only Raphael evolved the way it is being held
by Isaiah. This similarity is carried on throughout the Stanze. But somehow, Raphael
could never rise up to Michelangelo s mastery, even as he

Thucydides vs. Plato
Paper about Thucydides versus Plato on the nature of the Good Life
1: Thucydides versus Plato on the nature of the Good Life. Some have claimed that
Thucydides is making empirical claims, whereas Plato is making normative claims.
Is that true? Support your answer in your paper. Plato and Thucydides together had
strikingly dissimilar views on their tactic on the good life. Many have demanded that
Plato is making normative rights, whereas Thucydides has made empirical claims.
Let s first take a look at Plato. Plato s philosophy on the decent life was based on
the confidence that all has an objective or use that is classically suited for asset,

Such an account we find chiefly in the Rules and Phaedrus, nonetheless also
indirectly in the Timeous. On the additional hand, in hominid beings the depth is also
distinctly moral, a self ruler that systematizes its needs so that it can truly love

do you think the eighteenth century world that gave rise to the Utilitarian reacted

The Dangers of Lead
Lead is toxic if inhaled or ingested. It gets into the blood stream, travels to other
parts of your body and stores itself in your bones. It interferes with the production of
red blood cells (leading to anemia) and absorbs calcium. The Center for Disease
Control and Prevention (CDC) stated that nearly one million children in the United
States has levels of high leadthat causes irreversible damage to their health. The CDC
s current level of concern regarding bloodlevel testing is set at ten micrograms per
deciliter; although recent studies indicate that there is no safe level of lead in the
blood and that preventing lead poisoning before it occurs is paramount. There are
many products consisting of lead both the metal and in dioxide form, for example,
batteries, electric cable covering, ammunition, solder, roofing materials and is also
used in the production of making crystal glass. However, we are not always aware
of lead that could be found in the soil around us. Soil contaminated with lead is
more prevalent in industrial areas as well as poorer areas in the city. According to
USA Today, neighborhoods near former lead factories show numerous areas where
the dirt and soil is so contaminated that children should not be playing in it. Lead is
deposited in soil from anthropogenic sources, meaning something originating in
human activity like environmental pollution and pollutants. Lead does not
biodegrade or decay. Lead in residential soil comes from several sources
Basketball Throw Bracket
The way to construct a major league ball playoff bracket is described below. This
will let you track the competition all the way to the end of the World Series, so
you ll know how the World Champions won. The criteria for determining which
teams make the MLB playoffs are complex. Unless you are an avid follower, it can
very difficult to distinguish between wild cards, record holders and divisional
winners. However, this guide explains the basics in the playoffs that go into the
decision of major league baseballteam, and decides which teams advance. This is the
way to construct a baseballdivision playoff bracket.

that oppose each other in each round. Lots ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Once you have got the two winners from the division series on the NL side, those
two winning teams will have to play each other to get the league champions. In
order to demonstrate this on your baseball bracket, sketch a different 3 sided cube.
Sketch a line from the center of the division games boxes, and put the winning team
on that line. Each winning team should be joined together by using a vertical line.
Do this for the AL and the NL teams in the bracket.
Display the World Series champs. Once both leagues have played, there will be one
winner on each side. At this point both sides in your baseball playoff bracket will
meet in the page s center. Divide each league championship game in half by drawing
a line through the center of that game and enter the winning team on this line. There
will be 2 teams written next to each other. The reason is that one team is in the
National League while the other is in the American League. You don t need a box
now, just the line.
Champion of the World Series. The winner of your MLB playoff bracket will be
determined at the conclusion of the World Series. Underline the rival World Series
competitor team s names, by themselves. Jot down the victorious ballteam s name on
this line, writing champion beneath
What Is The Implementation Of The Affordable Care Act
Professor and classmates,
Healthcare reform, a subject that is daily in our news with many opinions and
feelings such as for, against it, mixed, and confusion. Healthcare reform was initially
known as Obamacare. In 2010, former President, Barack Obama signed this act into
effect. The purpose of this act was to allow all Americans to obtain health insurance
at an affordable rate, especially the unemployed or those individuals earning a low
income. It also was put in place to guard individuals from insurance companies
denying coverage due to a chronic disease or pre existing conditions. Within the first
five years of being implemented more than 16 million individuals had health care
coverage (Roland, 2015).
The following is regarding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

How did my fellow workers react to the implementation of the ACA? I think initially,
there was a lot of confusion, questions (which still surrounds this act today). My co
workers continued to administer the same upmost care to all the patients on our unit
and work together as a team. However, there were times, when we were exhausted
from picking up overtime, frustrated with floating to other units and/or having to deal
with off service physicians to be honest but the patients never saw that nor did it
affect care given to our patients. I think one of the biggest concerns initially, was the
fear of the unknown, concern for how it would impact our hospital financially, and
our jobs.
How were the citizens in my community impacted? The hospital I work for in
Cleveland Ohio surrounds and services many poor, inner city communities where
there is a high incidence of poverty, unemployment, and uninsured. Therefore, many
of these individuals were able to obtain health care coverage, which resulted in an
influx of patients being cared for at my facility. Also,
Essay on Perfect Body Image Has Changed Throughout
History
How many of you have looked at an image of a model, and have mentally
questioned why you don t look just as good? Im pretty sure many of you sitting here
have done so.
You realise that you feel very self conscious about your overall body image. Body
image is defined as the way the person perceives themselves , physically and
mentally. Our perception on beauty has been altered disturbingly, ever since media
has played a role in society. When we look at celebrities, we generally idealise them ,
without processing the fact that they ve been photoshopped, plastered in tons of
makeup , used lighting and photographers and most obvious, had previous cosmetic
surgeries. We re completely oblivious to the fact that it is unattainable to be that ...

Teenagers and children are a target, as they re very easily utilised. They easily get
teenager and children to buy their products, and by doing so they use advertisements
as their idea. They are well aware that if they state in their products that it will
improve their appearance, teenagers are more likely to purchase it.
It is proven that models nowadays weigh 23% less than the average woman.Girls
believe that to have the ideal body, you need to be toned and slim, wheres for guys
being muscular is the definition of perfection. The problem starts to become much
severe , when it ultimately leads to serious habits such as eating disorders like
anorexia, bulimia and in most cases, suicidal attempts.
Many young teenagers have developed eating disorders, as they sadly use unhealthy
habits to manage their weight and that is through skipping meals, fasting, self
induced vomiting, and not to forget excessive exercise. People with anorexia tend
to be very skinny, and as when they look into the mirror, they literally see excess
body fat. Their minds have tricked them into believing they need to lose more weight
to be able to look fit.
Were all preoccupied with our bodies , and dissatisfied with our looks, that most of
us are willing to try anything in order to obtain that perfect figure. The standards that
are set are unbelievably high, as they re unrealistic for what the normal body figure
should be.
Farewell, My Darling Lua
Lua Prologue Lua, my dear Lua. I wish I could be here with you now, but you will
never see me again. Do you remember the bad men I told you about? Once you
have read this letter, they will have killed me. Please cherish this letter but, sadly,
you will not remember me. Take this tablet, and keep it safe. Make sure no one
ever finds it. I love you, my darling son. Farewell. I will be watching over you,
always. Mother LUA Chapter One LUA. MOTHER HAD given that name to him.
When all others would call him by another, he still remembered Lua. Kanalorla,
that was the name given to him, wasn t it? That was his name. Prince Kanalorla of
Cadirawyn.Lua sat hugging one knee to his chest as he passed the small, bronze
tablet between his slender fingers. He stared intently at the intricate designs that
circled the edges of the rounded disk. He wondered what each symbol meant. They
were all different and all beautiful. Some looked like a raging fire, consuming
everything in its path; while some looked like a gentle breeze, delicately drifting
through the air. He could never fathom the meaning of this pointless slice of
metal. The small boy held an age worn paper between his fingers of his other hand.
This paper held the letter from a woman he knew only as Mother. Whether or not
this stranger was in fact his real mother, he did not know. No one seemed to know
who his mother was. Not even his half sister, Dirala, knew the birthmother of her half
brother. Someone had once

The Count Of Monte Cristo Summary
The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas was completed in 1844, and is
one of his most well known works, along with The Three Musketeers. Originally
published in the Journal des DГ©bats in a serial of eighteen parts, the novel
appeared in book form in Paris by PГ©tion in 18 volumes with the first two issued
in 1844 and the remaining sixteen in 1845. The story takes place in France, Italy,
and islands in the Mediterranean Sea in 1815 1839. This means that the story
occurs during the era of the Bourbon Restoration, and begins just before the
Hundred Days period. The story follows Edmond DantГЁs through the changes in
personality in an attempt to seek revenge on those who ruined his almost perfect
life. Dumas seeks to show the results of jealousy and revenge, love and happiness
in this literary classic. The story opens in Marseilles with a crowd watching the
ship Pharaon come into port. Among the crowd is the owner of the ship, Monsieur
Morrel, who is informed that the captain of the ship passed away at sea. The ship s
first mate, and the protagonist, DantГЁs assures Morrel that the ship ran smoothly
after the loss of the captain. The ship s supercargo Danglars, jealous of DantГЁs
abilities and praise, tries to tarnish the laudation by informing Morrel that DantГЁs
made a stop at Elba. DantГЁs replies it was under the wishes of the captain, to which
Morrel congratulates him for following the man s dying wishes. Morrel declares that
after speaking to his partner, DantГЁs

  • 2. Global Counter Insurgency And The War On Terror Is global counter insurgency a viable strategy in the war on terror ? After the 9/11 attacks in the United States, the War on Terror was the strategy that the Bush government developed with the aim to defeat the organization that had accomplished this attack, Al Qaeda. The immediate response of the Bush Administration after the attack was the invasion of Afghanistan, with the goal of eliminating and expel the targets that had made the country their sanctuary. This group was presented as the main threat of the 21st century, and as the enemy at the global scale. However, the idea of the War on Terror did not employ only in the Afghan context, the Islamic terrorist threat was spread through nine principal theatres . A new phenomenon had... With the lessons learned in these areas, Galula returned to France in 1956, the year in which the country was immersed in the Algerian war, which led him to request a command therein. It was here that Galula implemented for the first time their knowledge of COIN. Galula theory is based on the support of the population, an element that is recovered in the doctrine developed by Petraeus. This is divided between an active minority supporting the insurgency, an active minority who would be willing to support the force or forces that promote measures COIN, and finally, a large majority of the population passive (FM 3 24, 2006: 1 20). The aim of COIN operations would therefore gain the support of the active minority that is potentially in their favour, so that this in turn get mobilized the passive majority of the population against the insurgent group. Besides military measures to reduce and eliminate the insurgent forces, for the author it is essential to isolate the population of these groups, in order to avoid a possible mobilization of the same against the interests of the COIN. This will require removing the alleged political organization that insurgent groups have developed in that area, and replace it forces an interim basis to ensure the necessary services in the area, and thus add up support within the local population. Based on the classic definition of the term, the insurgency is defined as organized movements aimed at overthrowing a
  • 3. Research Paper On Antinomianism I enjoyed your post since I had to complete effective research in order to provide a respectable response. The research lead myself to discover that I m not an antinominalist for many different reasons. Moreover, I respect your honesty as it pertains to you aligning yourself as an antinominalist. Antinomianism will eventually lead to complete chaos in society since there are many people that in general generate immoral decisions. Therefore, we as humanity must live with a standard. Furthermore, biblically, the common picture of the antinomian is someone who thinks that, because of Christ s forgiveness, they can (and will) do whatever they want: self indulgence, sexual deviancy, substance abuse, lewd music, and the like (Mockingbird, 2015).
  • 4. The Female Sex Is A Crucial Part Of Creation And... In all aspects of nature, the female sex is a crucial part of creation and development of offspring. In Frankenstein, Mary Shelley explores the significance of women to the protagonist, Victor Frankenstein , as he surpasses the woman s role in the production of life. Besides the major themes of abandonment and loss in the novel Frankenstein, there is an ironic focus on the female role throughout the plot. The disregard of women s roles in society and by Frankenstein show the importance that these women actually played on his life. Frequently, the passive actions and ideally domestic expressions of women s actions led to some of the largest events of the novel that affected Victor Frankenstein the greatest. Through three important female... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She showed a uncommon amount of independence for this time period. Not only did she provide care and tenderness for her gravely ill father, but the author also mentions how she had to find ways to financially support herself and her father as well. She procured plain work; she plaited straw; and by various means contrived to earn a pittance scarcely sufficient to support life. (Shelley). The irony of this situation is greatly marked by the death of her father. At this time period, it was very uncommon and not socially acceptable for women to be independent. But when the death of her father came, Frankenstein described how his father came like a protecting spirit to this poor girl and how he took Caroline away and placed her under the protection of a relation (Shelley). The likeliness of this situation sounds greatly exaggerated. For months, Caroline took the financial burden upon herself. Not only did she tend to her father during his illness, but she was forced to take her extra time to support them both. Frankenstein depicts Alphonse as rescuing Caroline after her father passed, and portraying her as a kind of damsel in distress who is unable to care for herself. When in reality, she had already proven that she was adequately able to care for herself and another. After Alphonse rescues Caroline from where she was left to fend for herself, he takes her to live with his family where they will take care of

  • 6. Uncovered Controversies In Shakespeare s Richard III Shakespeare Uncovered Controversies in His Writings Shakespeare s Richard III was written in approximately 1592. The play portrays the way Richard obtained the thrown and how his reign quickly came to an end after only two years. He illustrates the War of Roses and the division between the Lancaster and York houses, which eventually came to a close when the first Tudor king came to power. This play was published during the Elizabethan Era, which is the time period distinguished by Elizabeth I s supremacy over England. The era is characterized by literature, drama, and Renaissance ideology. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is because of Elizabeth s love of the arts that Shakespeare was able to cover more controversial topics in his writings. Tudor Dynasty was written by Tom Streissguth, who earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Yale University. In his article, Streissguth analyzes the development of the Tudor line and explains the reign of Elizabeth I. He mentions how Elizabeth encouraged playwrights, musicians, and poets and that talented men such as William Shakespeare... flourished during the Elizabethan Age (Streissguth). Shakespeare s popularity and praise enabled him to expose the corruption of the monarchy without any trouble from the queen. In Richard III, Richard deceives the townspeople by pretending to be religious and commits multiple murders, including his young nephews by simply stating, I wish the bastards dead, and I would have it suddenly performed (4.2.20 21). In this play, Shakespeare uncovers the political corruptness and murder completed by those with power. However, since Queen Elizabeth I admired and appreciated the arts, Shakespeare was able to write about controversial topics, such as dishonesty on the
  • 7. The Women s Liberation Movement Essay In the attempt to gain equality for women across gender barriers in all aspects of society, the battle that women have had to endure throughout history has been anything but peaceful. Particularly in the United States, the women s liberation movement is an example of how women in the U.S. took a stance to protest for their civil and reproductive rights, domestic violence issues, women s suffrage, and sexual harassment and gender based violence that is inflicted upon women on a daily basis. This movement was full of women passionate for gender based equality in the U.S, however this feminist movement was not as easy to join if you were a black woman. A reason for this hardship was because of the racial conflict and tension that is experienced by African Americanpeople living in the United States that is dated back to the inhumane implantation of slavery. Racismin America is the result of the white social construction of identity and the perpetrated norm of the otherness. The marginalization of disclosing black women from the U.S. women s liberation movement demonstrates an explicit example of how the attempt to protest for gender equality was overshadowed by a racialized closed door way of thinking. Therefore, this essay will closely examine the feminist liberation movement in the United States and explain the hardships and racial struggles that black women had to endure in their attempt to join this movement. It will look from a different angle towards this women s
  • 8. Common Sense Thomas Paine In the essay Common Sense, Thomas Paine made various arguments for the American colonies to break away from England. One of the arguments mentions the loss America faces when Great Britain is at war with other countries. Due to the connection between America and Great British, whoever is at war with Great Britain will also stop trading with America, thus affects America s economy negatively. In addition, Great Britain s enemy also sees America as their enemy due to their connection. Though America wanted to remain neutral in most of the cases, and that it is not the actions of America that made America other countries enemy, but it is solely because of the connection with Great Britain, America is also viewed as the enemy. Both of these arguments mentions the negative effects the connection with Great Britain had caused, not only does it ruin America s economy, but it could also damage America s relationship with other foreign countries. At the end of World War 2, millions had died while in the concentration camps. Auschwitz alone was responsible for 1.5 million to 3 million deaths. The courts specified that section 49 needed a severer test, and that, that section shouldn t be given a open minded meaning but rather, it should and must be interpreted and practiced but with limits against the person that wants to depend on it (Burchell, 1997). In Section 49, as it used to be, it was used by the law implementation agencies as a free means to kill people. It was often seen as a discriminatory root most especially to the blacks mostly on the receiving end. The continuation of this so called licence to kill people wasn t a surprising issue, this was because the criminal justice system back then wasn t liable to the constitutional system that respected the expected human rights, especially the right to bodily integrity and the right to life. Public Service Broadcasting In Australia There is no doubt that the proliferation of digital media has placed great stress on the already fragile status of public service broadcasting (Miragliotta and Errington, 2012). The convergent media environment alongside restraints on funding and skeptic views regarding their necessity have posed great challenges altering the role of public service broadcasters in the 21st century. However, there are many signs pointing toward a renewed government commitment within the Australian sector, to suggest that what the digital revolution has brought is not only challenges but also opportunities (Spigelman, 2013). By examining the recent movements of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) in addition to specific reference of the Special Broadcasting Company (SBS) this essay shall seek to address the current debate surrounding the necessity of public service broadcasters in the 21st century. To this day, the charter written by John Reith, the first director general of the British Broadcasting Company (BBC) in 1926, is believed to have established the principles governing public service broadcasting. Literary Devices In Richard Cory The narrative poem, Richard Cory , written in 1893 by the poet Edwin Arlington Robinson, narrates the story of Richard Cory, a fictional character, a man who seems to have it all. The people in the town belong to lower financial class and seem to worship him because of his position, they look up to him and they want to be like him. Richard Corytakes his own life at the end of the poem, which shows, that appearance and money cannot buy happiness or fulfillment. This poem is narrated in the third person plural, where we represents the citizens of the small town in which Richard Cory resides and where he is considered part of the royalty for his wealth and well educated self. The title of this poem suggests Richard s destiny; because according to the meaning the name, Richard derives from German, French and English Ric (ruler, leader, king, powerful) and Hard (strong, brave, hardy) and it therefore means strong in rule the perfect name for the perfect guy. Robinson had a rough childhood, since he described his own childhood as stark and unhappy which led his poetryto have a huge amount of dark pessimism within each line. Robinson utilizes literary devices in his composition such as, connotations that suggest to the reader that Richard Cord belongs to the royalty. He mentions sole to crown, (3) imperially slim, (4) and schooled in every grace, (10), this connotation emphasizes Richard s position as local royalty and portrays him as the ideal man. The poem

Before learning about it in class, I believed it meant crying, and staying in bed all day. I did not know why it happened, or think there was any connection with it and biology. I witnessed multiple people look down at the disorder as a sign of weakness. As I socialized with these individuals, I found myself connecting what they said to the disorder. I, personally, did not believe it to be a sign of weakness but because I knew others did, that s what came to mind. Apparently, it was also a poor man s disease. I had a friend who did not believe that privileged people were allowed to be depressed. I was exposed to a lot of the stigma that comes with mental illness. Unfortunately, that clouded my contact with the reality of the disorder. Through reading on the disorder, and the psychology classes I have taken, I was able to push past the stigma and what I was socialized to believe. I disregard the saying that it s just a sign of weakness, and people just need to get over it. I learned that anyone can be affected by the disorder, even someone who is privileged, and lives a comfortable life. It is not always an environmental /sociocultural cause, but can be a more chemical/biological response. This definitely reinforced my disapproval of the stigma on major depressive disorderand encouraged me to fight against it. It is hypothesized that an individual in the presence of a firearm, has an increased likelihood of exhibiting anti social behaviors. The studies presented, will investigate whether the presence of a gun, is a stimulus for aggressive behaviors (Berkowitz Lepage, 1967; Anderson, Benjamin Bartholow, 1998; Bartholow, Anderson, Carnagey Benjamin, 2005). Studies regarding whether gunownership influences the likelihood of abnormal behaviors in adolescence will be examined (Cunningham, Henggler, Limber, Melton Nation, 2000; Sprinkles, 2007). Gun ownership rates and various violent acts will also be investigated, such as homicide rates and suicide rates (Hemenway Miller, 2000; Killias, Van Kesteren Rindlisbacher, 2001; Gius, 2009; Siegel, Ross King, 2013). Extrinsic factors including race/ethnicity, culture, and the environment will additionally be addressed (Cunningham et al., 2000; Sprinkles, 2007; Rajan, Namdar Ruggles, 2015). There were a multitude of factors that led to the Soviet Union s downfall. Economic stagnation, anti communist sentiment, and nationalist movements finally brought the collapse of communism in the Soviet Union. When Mikhail Gorbachev became Secretary of the Communist Party, he had to deal with an ailing and frail Soviet Union. The country had entered a state of serious economic decline and the Soviet people, discontent with their political party, looked to Gorbachev to solve their problems. Spurred by patriotic duty, Gorbachev introduced democratic reforms known as perestroika and glasnost. These sought to free businesses and Soviet peoples from harsh government regulation and censorship, respectively. While Gorbachev believed these policies would strengthen the Soviet government, this was not the case. Perestroika did not do anything to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since the very first battles in the Aegean Sea, between Greek galleys, to today s massive aircraft carriers, destroyers, and submarines; each technological step has been taken to try to outdo the opponent. One major step that naval warfare took was the transition from large numbers of muzzle loading cannons on either side of the ship to turret guns. The transition from forty to fifty guns cannons to twelve big guns at the most, had substantial impacts on several aspects of naval operations. New changes in tactics had to be made to facilitate the use of only a few guns that could point only one direction at a time. Maritime strategies had to be adjusted to compensate for the newer, bigger, faster, and more power ships. You re a jock, you re a cheerleader, you re a freak, you re into the drama department. I had a lot of trouble fitting into those groups when I was in high school because I wanted to be a part of all of them. One Tree Hill represents people who are multidimensional and who like more than one thing. Hilarie Burton, who plays Peyton Sawyer, says it perfectly herself. One Tree Hillshows diversity among all. The use of every stereotype is used in this series to allow every viewer feel as though they have a place, making the show significant for young adult viewers especially. The main characters in the show are all friends, yet they all have different interests. Despite the drama, relatable for any high school viewer. While other shows place teens into certain stereotypical groups, One Tree Hill does just the opposite by allowing everyone to be themselves. Dissimilar from most shows on television and stereotypes of high school, One Tree Hill does a substantial work of portraying the diversity of all people by bringing all together. Peyton Sawyer is not like any typical highschool girl. She is a cheerleader but also enjoys making dark art. Naturally, she is in her room listening to punk rock music and drawing. Peyton is pretty uncheery (if one asks Lucas Scott). Therefore, she doesn t come off as the cheerleader type. The only reason that she is a cheerleader is because her

As they spoke on their experiences with an intoxicating mixture of vibrancy and precision, they allowed the reader to come along for the journey without getting lost. Most commendable, is that the writers were able to leave subtle hints that would foreshadow their fortunes meticulously in efforts to keep the readers engaged. There is a vital point to highlight from the workings of both authors how humble and vulnerable their writings maintained as they were written during the peak of their success. Therefore, the common theme is how they foreshadow their success without neglecting to pay homage to where they came from. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In her first chapter appropriately named Where I was Born , Keckley mentions that she was not only born a slave but refers to slavery in a unique way that offers a hint of foreshadowing. She mentions I was but a child myself only four years old but then I had been raised in a hardy school had been taught to rely upon myself, and to prepare myself to render assistance to others (Gates Jr. Smith, 311). What is so profound about that statement is that hardy school was a double entendre used to refer to slavery. Hence, the idea that slavery taught her independence which she carried with her throughout her life. As it pertains to her writing, slavery also equipped her with the poise she presented both in her demeanor and in her work as a renowned seamstress. Another detail that Equiano incorporated within his writing, is the meaning of his name. As he says in the text I was named Olaudah, which, in our language, signifies vicissitude or fortune also, one favoured, and having a loud voice and well spoken (Gates Jr. Smith 121). Equiano was a man who was the youngest born son to village leaders who owned slaves, became a captive of slavery himself, briefly worked in the fields as a slave before following his master overseas and ultimately buying his own freedom. What s most profound throughout that, is the fact that he used his voice to help others who are stuck where he was able to break free. PBS has an article where

These black and white bears reside mainly in China where seventeen percent of the total population of pandas reside. They are habituated in bamboo forests, which are not only the panda s home, but also their main source of food. A panda s diet consists of ninety percent bamboo and ten percent of mushrooms, insects, fish, plants and other small rodents. These bamboo forests are being taken from them, because the human population is constantly expanding and using their bamboo forests as land for growing crops or to build roads. Combined with the natural dying on bamboo and logging, these defenseless panda bears are forced to seek new areas and see whether or not there is a sufficient amount of bamboo for them to consume, although many of them fail to do so and end up dying of starvation instead. As of today, there are only twenty nine diminished and fragmented areas that have the appropriate habitat to support the remaining panda bears. China s pandas have been threatened with extinction, suffered from low birth rates, and have been ridiculed by human s interference with their habitat; now they are faced with another obstacle, starvation. The climate change over the years has brought the extinction rate of the pandas to rise at an

The story takes place in France, Italy, and islands in the Mediterranean Sea in 1815 1839.
