Bauer Performance Sports Ltd.
Bauer Performance Sports Ltd. is a company based out of Exeter, New Hampshire that produces ice
hockey equipment, fitness and recreational skates, and apparel. They are best known for their skates
but after acquiring multiple companies they have expanded into manufacturing wide range of
equipment from skates to hockey sticks. The company has expanded to new levels and now has the
face of many NHL stars to represent their brand. For an athlete to stay relevant in their sport they have
to adapt and get better year after year. It is the same for a worker, once they are not up to date on
everything they need to know they became more of a liability for the company. This is because they
are not as efficient as another work who would be up to date and could replace them. This is the same
for manufactures of products, the product they are selling must be the best or top of the line so that it
is appealing to the consumers. Another big part of issues manufactures have is that they need to have
more than one version of the product. When marketing to a large number of consumers the product
has to be the most appeal one on the shelf and in their price range. Bauer has to maintain a product
line that will be affordable to a player who is trying a sports for his first time all the way up to the
professional players. Bauer was founded in 1927 in the town of Kitchener, Ontario. They changed
hockey skates forever when they developed the first skate with the blade attached. In

The Exorcism Of The Evils Of Nacirema People
For me the strangest practice is the exorcism of the evils of the mouth. This is also the most gruesome.
I can imagine the pain I feel after the anesthetics wears off after took extraction. Having holes drill in
your teeth without any pain medication is just horrific.
The article give a great insight into the life and cultural rites of the Nacirema people. It seems there
are two group of people at either ends of the Body Ritual ceremonies with one group benefiting more
than the others. The healers (medicine men, herbalists and holy mouth man) are all directly benefiting
as they require a fee for their services. On the other hand, the healing of the people is dependent on
chance. This made me recall similar habits of medicine men back home.

Benefits Of Business Intelligence Software
10 Benefits of Business Intelligence Software
Making decisions is an important part of the business world. However, without the proper information
and data, it is easy for decisions to be made poorly. For this reason, business intelligence has been
simplifying the process of delivering information and data to key decision makers ever since it was
first developed.
Naturally, there are many methods available to help make the business intelligence more effective.
However, one of the most valuable tools is business intelligence software. This software comes in
many shapes and forms, but offers quite a few benefits to businesses.
What is it?
Business Intelligence software is designed to help improve the flow of data through the different
working parts of an organization. With this data, business leaders are better equipped to analyze the
decisions that their business is faced with.
Reports and analytics are just a couple of the valuable items created by business intelligence software.
These items will help show trends in sales, customer interest, inventory and a vast number of other
items.
Benefits of Business Intelligence Software
When leaders have access to more and better quality data, there is bound to be a number of benefits
involved. If you are looking to decide whether your company needs business intelligence software,

Gorham Family Structure
Hello everyone, I live in Gorham Maine. The maps indicate that ACS 2013 in Gorham, has a total of
2,156 households with 1,176 of those to be married couples. Of those 539 households with married
couples have one or more children living at home under the age of 18 (Social Explorer, 2013). My
family household is myself, my husband of 23 years, and our 15 year old daughter. We have a 21 year
old daughter who lives on her own currently in Colorado. I think the changes in family has to do with
how families have changed to now recognize families of same sex couples. This is a huge leap from
the 1950 s model of a nuclear family of husband, wife, and their children (New York University
Department of Sociology, 2013). Society as a

The IT team of CanGo needs to design a professional looking website. Eliminate any spelling errors or
other mistakes on the site and add an About Us and place a link on the homepage so customers can
find it easily. Give the history of the company, as well as a physical address. Provide a phone number
that customers can call with questions and problems. The easier for customers to contact the company,
the more likely they are to buy your merchandise or service.
When customers place their order on line, and when they press the submit button, it signals the order
fulfillment software to swing into action. Coding of book numbers indicates where the books come
from. Bestsellers are shipped directly from CanGo s warehouse. Bestsellers are stored at CanGo so
that they can be shipped quickly. Often, they can be shipped the same day they are ordered. Books
from wholesalers should take about two days until they are received, repackaged, and shipped to
customers, while books from publishers should take about three days for the same process. If a
customer places an order for books that come from more than one source, all books are held until the
order is complete. Books held in inventory (bestsellers of all types) are received from wholesalers at
the receiving dock. They are sorted by subject and moved to the proper storage shelf in the book

Evolution and Mechanical Functionality of Aeronautical...
AERONAUTICAL PROPULSION SYSTEMS This report is an investigation into the evolution and
mechanical functionality of aeronautical propulsion systems, from the early attempts at propulsion to
modern propulsion system such as propeller, internal combustion engine, ramjet engine and gas
turbine. As this report will focus of aeronautical propulsion systems, rocket propulsion systems are
almost exclusively involved in astronautics and will not be discussed.
As an engineer will have to decide the best combination of engine and thrust device to attach to an
aircraft. This report covers the technical developments in the advancement in propulsion systems. This

A jet engine follows Newton s Third law and as such the rushing hot gases creates a force in the
opposite and parallel direction.
Propulsion systems are not jet engine exclusive. Propulsion system are the constant Conversion any of
various forms of energy into mechanical force and motion to produce thrust. Thus it can be viewed as
an energy transformer.
This transformation is however not perfect and brings into account how efficient the system is. The
efficiency is the ratio between the input and intended output of the system. This unfortunately is never
100% and is a critical factor that plays into propulsion systems and fuel options.
DRAG
Drag is the aeronautical term for the air resistance encounter by an object in motion. Drag acts in the
inverse direction to the objects movement through the air as it constrains its movement and acts
parallel to the relative wind stream.
Drag can be managed in aircraft and countered by increasing its aerodynamic properties. These
include incorporating streamlined shapes, having cleaned surfaces, implementing flush fitting bolts
and also several other configuration characteristics.
The secondary responsibility of an aircraft s engine is to handle and conquer the drag. However, the
more thrust produced the more air resistance encountered and consequently produces increased drag
on the aircraft.

High-Stakes Testing In Schools
In Chapter 4, Assessing Students and Texts, the topics associated with assessments were covered. The
text discussed two major assessment approaches: formal and informal. The chapter also focused on
policy influence, implementation strategies, and the history of assessment. Other areas in the reading
mentioned the process of how to determine readability of texts and how complexity is influenced.
Before even starting the chapter, the title lead me to recall assessments and how they have impacted
my life. Tests have been a part of my education since I can remember, but to be more specific on the
assessment type, I know high stakes testing a little too well. When I started school, the No Child Left

I really had no prior experience for what to expect, but my sister would make sure to fill me in with all
the details she could about hers. Aside from what my sister told me and what my teacher would
constantly strain of its importance, I only knew that the one test I was taking held the key to
determining if I would be able to call myself a fourth grader next year. The pressure of having to pass
the test took a toll on me every following school year. I ended up developing the mentality that I was
not able to enjoy school or derail off my education for a single moment, until the TAKS tests were
over with. Once testing season was done, the feeling of suffocation would dissipate from my system.
The severity of the matter was most evident when I entered my junior year of high school. Since sixth
grade, I had been taking advance courses and was doing exceptionally well. But for my junior year,
when the TAKS test determined if I would graduate from high school, I took a major step back and
enrolled in courses below my level. I felt it was the adequate thing to do since those classes would
cover what was on the test. I believed I was not capable of succeeding without that rote memorization
practice every day. I cheated myself from enlightening my evolving knowledge. Honestly looking
back, it is calamitous that I doubted my abilities for so long due to a mandated test with no merit to

4:1 Support an individual to identify needs and preferences.
The importance of supporting the individual and allowing them to make their own decisions is vital.
Communicating with them and allowing identifying their own needs and then supporting them in that
decision. You could involve family, friends and carers in the process.
4:2 Identify any resources or specialist equipment that may be required to support an individual to
engage in activities.
See 3:2 and 3:3 above.
4:3 Support an individual to engage in activities that meet their needs and preferences.
It is important to encourage an individual to do as much for themselves as is possible to maintain their
independence and physical ability to maximise their full potential and independence. Supporting an
individual will help them to develop, retain and regain their abilities.
5:1 Review with the individual and/or others, how well the activities have met the identified needs and
preferences.
Sit and chat with the individual and ask him/her if they have enjoyed themselves during the activities?
Speak to colleagues and ask if they had noticed a difference with that person. For example, if that
person appeared happier or more cheerful than usual as this is an indication that the activities that you
encouraged them to partake in has improved their well being, Particularly if the activity was
something that person used to partake in when they were well.

Narrative Unreliability in Martin Amis Money
In Money: A Suicide Note Martin Amis describes the life of John Self, an extremely successful
filmmaker of TV adverts who takes part in the materialist game characterising the society of the
1980s. The protagonist is addicted to the 20th century, where he leads a careless life based on a daily
abundance of drugs, alcohol, promiscuous sex, handjobs and the porn industry. However, this
addiction leaves its marks on the body and character of John Self. His physical as well as social health
slowly deteriorate while Self is unable (and unwilling) to get off his never ending trip. For him life
seems to be mainly a holiday, and a very expensive one indeed. Only far too late does he realise the
dark sides of a lifestyle depending fully on money, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First of all, it is justified to claim that one of the reasons for John Self s own unreliability lies in the
fact that he himself is sometimes not aware of certain aspects of the story. Therefore, it is only a
logical consequence, and by no means part of Self s intention, that the reader is not properly informed
about what is going on at several points of the novel. For example, the dubious existence of his
antagonists Frank the Phone and the red haired woman who seems to follow Self almost everywhere
are out of his own understanding. Consequently, he cannot offer the reader a plausible explanation for
their motivation. In the end, it is the Martin Amis character of the novel, who sees through Fielding
Goodney s insidious plot, identifies John Self s partner as being both Frank the Phone and the red
haired woman and informs Self as well as the reader about his partner s real intentions. As a result of
his own lack of knowledge, John Self is simply unable to grasp the real connection between certain
elements of the story, and thus the readers have to figure out many things by themselves. Another
incident, where John Self is rather clueless regarding the truth, is when it comes to his girlfriend
Selina Street and her questionable faithfulness. Thanks to one of his friends, Self knows very early in
the novel that she is cheating on him but he is simply unable to establish the identity of her new lover.
Finally, it is Selina herself who tells him about her

The Great Chicago Fire In Chicago Illinois
THE GREAT CHICAGO FIRE I n October 1871, Chicago Illinois was built on wood. There was dry
weather, and wooden buildings which made the city vulnerable to fires. The new city had drawn many
people there, to start new work. Then one day a tragic fire struck the city. It s still a mystery how the
fire started, but some people have their own theories. A common legend told is that a cow kicked over
a lantern in the O Leary s barn. Which started a blaze, and burned out of control because of the dry
weather. The wrong fire department was called, which means it took longer for them to get there and
put the fire out. Thus, by the time they got there the fire was spreading uncontrollably. A steady wind
from the southwest carried the flames

Examples Of Positive Reinforcement
Properly used, positive reinforcement is extremely powerful. (B.F. Skinner) This quote from B.F
Skinner shows my opinion on the punishment v. positive reinforcement argument. According to the
dictionary punishment is the infliction or imposition of a penalty for an offense. Examples of
punishment include: loss of recess time, extra homework, detention, and loss of other privileges.
According to the dictionary the definition of reinforcement is the process of encouraging or
establishing a belief or pattern of behavior, especially by encouragement or reward. Examples of
reinforcement are: teacher praise, earning privileges, teacher attention, taking away a homework
assignment, extra recess time, and extending a deadline. Positive reinforcement and punishment
within a classroom are constantly being tested to see which ones more effective when shaping a child
s behavior, but in my opinion positive reinforcement is the better option. To back this up I am going to
be using a combination of different experiments and surveys that have been conducted with student
and teachers. Before speaking about studies and surveys and other cold fact I am going explain the
different types of rein forcers that occur within any type of reinforcement process. The first type of
reinforce that is involved within this process is a social reinforcers. Social reinforcers are reinforcers
that are mediated by teachers, parents; other adults and peers. (Positive Reinforcement in the

Reflection On Early Learning
This reflection reviews my time at Goodstart Early Learning in Kyneton and the four weeks I spent
there during my first practicum round. The review will critically reflect my experience from this
practicum, using readings and learnings my strengthens and weaknesses will be revealed. Strategies
will also be implemented in what areas I need to focus on before my next practicum round.
Something that I observed at the beginning of my practicum were the issues concerning behavioural
guidance. There was a group of four boys who required the greatest assistance, my experience in
managing people and being a parent quickly reminded me in how to best support them. Knowing each
child and what their abilities and interests are enable educators to respond sensitively and
appropriately to each child (Cohrssen, Church, Tayler, 2011). I spoke with my mentor and other
educators and discovered the backgrounds of these boys and reasonings for their behaviours. I learnt
by observing the other educators how these behavioural guidance issues were managed and the many
techniques they used. Something I realised with the learning experiences I conducted was the need to
not speak too quickly and be clear and concise with my instructions. As I have had limited interaction
with young children as my stepchildren are now adults, I was unaccustomed in how to effectively
communicate with young children. At the beginning of my practicum the instructions and direction I
was attempting to provide were too

The Importance Of Being Accepted When Coming Out As A Gay...
The Importance of Being Accepted When coming out as a gay individual, there is a desire to be loved
and accepted for who they are by the family. When parents reject their child s sexual orientation it
often comes to kicking the child out of their home out of shame for their sexuality. In recent statistics,
Studies indicate that between 25% and 50% of homeless youth are LGBT and on the streets because
of their sexual orientation or gender identity (Pflagnyc, Statistics You Should Know About Gay and
Transgender Students). LGBT youth s also have an increased chance of living in an abusive household
with older parents due to a contrast of two different generations. The young generation of today is
more susceptible to accepting LGBT members because it is a more liberal time period. However, the
older generations are most likely to shun them due to biblical or principals that they grew up with. The
more accepting parents are of things they cannot change, the happier the child often is after coming
out to them. Homelessness has become an issue in recent years as more teens are starting to come out
to their parents, who have lived in the previous generation. Religion has played a key part in the
rejection of LGBT youth s due to its blunt statements like, Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with
womankind: it is abomination (Bible 98). Older generations examine and follow the bible more
closely than the newest generation and take certain verses to heart. Because they read that

Grapes Of Wrath By John Steinbeck
Have you ever realized that John Steinbeck talked about Religion in his book Grapes of Wrath? Well,
if your answer is NO, let me inform you that Steinbeck did talk about Religion in his book. There are
many similarities in John Steinbeck s Grapes of Wrath and Christ s story. In The Grapes of Wrath,
Steinbeck presents religion in different ways ranging from Jim Casy s similarities to Christ, the use of
Christian theology, and the symbolism of some characters as pastors. Throughout his book, Steinbeck
recounts the great depression era and its effects on proletariats. The major theme throughout this book
is the role of Christianity in the society. Marxism is a better theoretical lens to utilize for this paper
because the book itself contains several Marxist key terms. By applying the Marxist theory on
Steinbeck s book Grapes of Wrath, we can better understand how he uses Christian theology to
advance his critiques of capitalism.
Marxism is a literary theory that was developed by Karl Marx and his colleague Friedrich Engels.
According to Karl Marx, human history is made of physical things as well as a variety of struggles
between social classes: the lower class (oppressed) and the middle class (oppressing). There are two
most common and important key terms used in the Marxist theory: bourgeoisie, which often refers to
the middle class; those who own business or have a better life and proletariat, which refers to lower or
working class; those who have to work for others in

Figure 4 Fischer Esterification Mechanism (Gunawardena, 2009) Practically, the procedure involves
the heating a mixture of an alcohol and a carboxylic acid in the presence of an acid catalyst to yield an

the reaction conditions. An excess of the alcohol favor the formation of the ester. While the presence
of water drives the reaction backwards. (John McMurry, 2007) This concept of driving thereaction
forward makes use of Le Chatelier s principle states that When an equilibrium system is subjected to
change in temperature, pressure, or concentration of reacting species, the system responds by attaining
a new equilibrium that partially offsets the impact of change. (Petrucci, 2010) The structure of the

Business and the Economy
Business and the Economy
1. Business is one of the principal elements fueling the economy and the way that functions reflects on
society as a whole. Businesses are responsible for the creation of a competitive market and it is only
safe to say that they make it possible for a community to achieve economic progress. Individuals in a
competitive environment feel pressured to act as effectively as possible and they are thus enabled to
put across behavior that contributes to the wellbeing of the economy. Even with the fact that
businesses are not exactly meant to cause a great deal of social benefits, they are nonetheless essential
in keeping the economy alive.
Although it would be absurd to claim that businesses has a moral role in society, one can claim that it
is one of the most important tools assisting people achieve progress. Many people experience stress as
a result of their involvement in the economy, as they are unable to keep up with the fact that it is
constantly growing and they end up being unable to sustain themselves.
2. In spite of the fact that people generally focus on public and private entities when they think about
the economy, nonprofit organizations are also an important actor in the economy. Public institutions
are in charge of producing goods and services that are generally considered to be wanted by everyone.
Private agencies focus on providing people with personalized goods and services and are largely

The Impact Of Early Sports On Sports
Early specialization in a single sport has become increasingly popular. Early sports specialization can
be defined as year round training in a specific sport with the exclusion of other sports at a young age.
Youth are influenced and often encouraged to participate in one specific sport, with the hopes of
increasing their chances of being successful in that sport. With the money in college and professional
sports increasing the need to train children to compete at a high level has increased. Young athletes
often practice or play their specific sport throughout a large majority of the year. In some soccer
academies, sports specialization training can begin as early as kindergarten age. The training last
throughout the year academic school year, with tournaments during the summer months. The day to
day training may last several hours each day.
Some in the sports community find sports specialization to reflect a highly developed society and see
the skill acquisition and enhancement as beneficial to success in each sport; Being labeled as gifted,
the potential for a collegiate athletic scholarship; or making a varsity, elite, or even professional level
team. Hecimovich, M. (2004). There are numerous benefits of early sports specialization due to the
amount of practice of the sport specific skill. Early specificity enhances motor skills and increases
body awareness. The more time you spend practicing proper mechanics, the better you are going to be
at that specific sport.

Analyzing The Mood Of Edgar Allan Poe s The Raven
The mood that is created Edgar Allan Poe in his poem The Raven is somewhat sad and ominous. The
author creates this mood by relaying the tale through the eyes of a man in mourning and through the
appearance of a black Raven who consistency answers nevermore Even the atmosphere inside and
outside of the home where the man is living appears dark and dreary which adds to the mood being set
by the author. The poem is introduced with a man mourning over his recently dead wife, Lenore. He is
in his home grieving. The man appears to be in a lonely and sad but seems to be comforted by reading
his folktale. As the poem proceeds, the reader is not really sure whether the man is seeing things, or

The man himself is not quite sure what to think. As he questions the Raven, the only response he gets
is nevermore . This adds to the mystery and darkness of the mood. The reader wonders whether the
Raven is there to help or harm the man in his grief. It isn t very clear. What we do know is that the
Raven s presence doesn t seem to be helpful. The description of the room where the man is reading
also contributes to the mood, it is very late at night, he is alone and grieving. The room is decorated in
dark colors which seems to add to the darkness of the mood in which the man is found also contributes
to the mood being set by the author. Whether it s the description of the curtains, or just the impression
left by the author, the reader recognizes the mood in the house is dark. The description of the
surroundings of the home where the man lives is also dark. It is a December night and pitch black
outside, it obviously must be windy and cold because the man originally thinks the wind may have
caused the tapping but then realizes it must be a late night visitor. However, upon opening the door,
there is darkness there and nothing more . So whether it d be the mood of the man himself, the Raven
s impact on the mood or the setting inside or outside the house, there is no doubt that the author has
created a very dark and ominous

Theories And Theories Of An Observation On The Sacred Disease
Reasoning from observations has been important to scientific practice at least since the time of
Aristotle. This view is motivated by the assumption that the epistemic value of an observation report
depends upon its truth or accuracy. However, perception is imposed upon scientific thinkers by their
paradigm and theoretical commitments. Developmental ideas are consequently the result of theory and
technology ladenness of observations. Theories and technology have a corporate communication,
where technological development can generate new organizational theories and previous theories can
inspire new technologies or practices. This is evident in the medical writings of the Hippocratics,
Methodists, Erasistratus, and Aristotle.

The author does not dismiss the divine cause of a disease. It was believed that the gods and the forces
of nature were one in the same. In addition, the other presupposition was that body is related to and
affected by the environment. Consequently, the author observes that treatment was sustained by the
observation of the external signs . This leads the author to search for the physical mechanism that
occurs in the body to create the disease. In his observations, the author concludes that imbalances of
the elements in the body (like the environment) cause disease. While physical and rational
observations allow the author to properly treat a disease, the author s methods of allopathy are built
upon the theoretical presupposition that the gods have indefinite power over the human body.
Alternately, the Methodists develop a logical, simplified understanding of medicine base of the
teachings of Asclepiades and the Roman medical schools in the Hellenistic era. The Methodists hold
that the Art of Medicine consists of such observations; which they define as a sort of way, which they
name methodos, and maintain that medicine should examine those characteristics which diseases have
in common (Celsus, On Medicine, proem. 56). They conclude that medicine is no more than the
awareness of general, recurring features that manifest in a tangible way. They are not concerned with

Blood Doping Should Be Banned Essay
Blood doping creates unneeded risk and endangers an athlete s life for a slightly increased chance of
winning a competition. This practice should remain banned and athletes should seek alternative
practices that do not come with unusual added health risks. Though there are logical arguments for
each side, there is more evidence to support the argument that blood doping should not be legal in
athletic competitions. There is too much risk involved for the reward to be so miniscule.
Blood transfusions became popular between the 1970s and 1980s with a diverse population of
professional athletes. EPOs (a natural hormone made by the kidney s) followed blood transfusions and
gained their popularity in the late 1980s (Eichner). The effects of EPOs were seen through the many
health risks that the athletes encountered including the death of 20 European cyclists over a period of
4 years (Eichner). The 1998 Tour de France also saw its fair share of EPO use among athletes with one
team being disqualified and 6 more teams dropping out (Eichner). Later came the use of synthetic or
artificial blood. In recent years athletes have been accused of, and caught, using all of these methods
to increase their endurance and performance. Tests are improving to be able to detect when an athlete
has used one of these methods.
Blood doping is a very controversial issue among the athletic community and continues to grow. The
reasons why the use of blood doping has become so much more common include

ABSTRACT Globalization refers to the process of integration of the world into one huge market. It

This is all the more crucial because even if we leave out the unambiguous supporters of globalization
in its present form those who hold that it is purely beneficial, and the benefits will trickle down
automatically to the poor there are still widely differing conceptions of this process. Those who either
oppose globalization, or are anxious about its potentially detrimental effects on employment and
poverty, encompass a wide political spectrum. The extreme right oppose it from the standpoint of
economic and cultural nationalism, and liberals might deplore the loss of national sovereignty because
it reduces the effectiveness of state intervention to regulate capital and labour, alleviate poverty and so

Globalization is the process of integrating various economies of the world without creating any
hindrances in the free flow of goods and services, technology, capital and even labour or human

free flow of goods and services among nation states; 2. Creation of environment in which free flow of

The Inheritance Of Loss By Kiran Desai
Colonialism phenomenon is one of the aspects in life that has significant impact towards people s
values, feelings, beliefs and experiences. The effect of past colonialism lasts in modern lives, and thus
referred to as post colonialism. Post colonialism refers to the residual effects of colonial domination
and its cultures. Indigenous people internalized colonizers values in almost every aspect of their lives
including the way of thinking, education, social system, culture, economy, language, and so on.
Colonizers values denigrate the values, moral, and even physical appearances of formerly subjugated
people. It produces negative self image and alienation from their indigenous cultures (Tyson, 2006,

Analysis of Robert Frost s Desert Places Essay
Analysis of Robert Frost s Desert Places
Robert Frost s Desert Places is a testament to the harrowing nature of solidarity. By subjecting the
narrator to the final moments of daylight on a snowy evening, an understanding about the nature of
blank spaces and emptiness becomes guratively illuminated. The poem s loneliness has the ability to
transcend nature and drill a hole through the mind of the narrator so that all hope for relationships with
man and nature are abandoned.
In the first stanza, ?snow? and ?night? are juxtaposed to create a sense of loneliness and emptiness.
Meaning is derived from the effects they have on their surroundings and on the narrator. Here, snow

The dramatic realization of the absence of objects during the brief moments of sunset on a snowy
evening comes fast under the scrutiny of the narrator, and profound implications for him/her about the
desolate nature of his/her own loneliness and place in the world, as the passage of time puts his/her
place into perspective. The time and speed at which the surroundings becomes enveloped becomes
instrumental to the desolation resented throughout the poem. Had the evening been observed earlier in
the day, the finality of the blankness would have been cancelled out by more vivid visualizations about
the shape of the leaves, colors illuminated in the light, and numbers of specific animals scurrying
about in the open field. However, the simplistic nature of the language presents no comfort or
description by its dry context. The narrator speaks of ?empty spaces? (13) paralleled with the dry
nature of the language to create the loneliness of the poem. Alone with his/her thoughts, the narrator
focuses on how the nothingness affects his/her view of the world. Nature is represented as the creative
force that breeds the nothingness. The poem indicates, ?The woods around it have it?it is theirs./ All
animals are smothered in their lairs? (5

Great Wave Off Kanagawa Essay
An art work has many elements and principles to it. These are known as elements and principles of
design. The print The Great Wave off Kanagawa by Hokusai has many elements and principles of
design that show how much the artist used them in his work.
The Great Wave off Kanagawa by Hokusai has all the elements of design. For example, one of the
best aspects of the print is Hokusai s utilization of line to create both motion and space in the wave
(NGA). The curves of the wave and body of one boat drop just low enough to allow the base of Mount
Fuji to be visible, and the white top of the great wave creates a diagonal line that leads the viewer s
eye directly to the peak of the mountain top (Harris). The dramatically curved, upwards line of the
wave frames the mountain, whilst the jagged ends act as claws which almost personify the waves into
a hunter grasping at its prey; the frail, delicate fishing boats seem to have no chance against the water
(Ladkin). There are many ways in which Hokusai uses line in The Great Wave off Kanagawa .
Another element of design that Hokusai uses in The Great Wave is shape. For example, there are small
C shaped fingers of water that are thrown forward of the great curve as it arcs to its thunderous
completion (CC). The threatening wave is about to splash down and take over the boats ... Show more

of the space of the painting. The dramatically curved line of the wave perfectly frames the distant
Mount Fuji, and is suspended in time like a huge paw with multiple foam claws about to grasp the
frail fishing boats (Louviq). The details are still greatly appreciated even though the print is small. The
size of the painting isn t really relevant to how detailed and greatly appreciated this work of art

Examples Of Metaphysical Poetry
The term Metaphysical Poet was first used by John Dryden and later coined by Samuel Johnson in the
20th century. The term was used for the poets of the 17th century, it was a period of intense ferment in
all areas of life religion, science, politics, domestic relations, culture. Metaphysical literally means to
transcend above or beyond the physical world in order to gain perspective. The term permanently got
associated to poets like John Donne, Andrew Marvel, Henry Vaughan, Richard Crashaw, and George
Herbert. Their writings were a deliberate reaction against the 16th century verses which were smooth
and had a sweet tone. The Metaphysical Poets, therefore, adopted an uneven, rigorous and energetic
tone and were concerned with man s experience; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They used very vivid imagery in the poems, besides being richly sensuous. For example in The
Bermudas the poet uses the images of the bright oranges that shine in the shade of trees like golden
lamps in a green night . The pomegranates are described richer than the jewels. The islands are
imagined as riding the ocean s bosom . The listening winds receive the song being sung by the
pilgrims. The phrase, the watery maze is by itself admirably as conveying the idea that the pilgrims
could have been lost on the sea, not knowing the direction in which to sail. One of the most vivid
images is that of the whales which seem to carry the ocean upon their backs but which can be
destroyed by the power of God: He the huge sea monsters wracks,/ That lift the deep upon their backs.
The imagery in The Garden is very pastoral, it could be a reference to the garden of Eden. Unlike
other metaphysical poets, Marvell derives some of it from classical reference, such as the myths of
Apollo and Pan. The speaker then presents an image of his soul detaching from his body, but
remaining in the garden. The image suggests that during the soul s time on Earth, it is possible for it to
transcend some of the physical body s limitations, as we see in the speaker s previous contemplation
of a green thought in a green

It is a known fact that people usually listen to music thinking it can help them do work. To many, that

if classical music can help you do work better than rock or the other way around. Rock is usually
being used for intense stuff such as working out and to get your blood pumping, so some people listen
to it to have a short burst of energy. While, classical music can be used to calm you down. Also,

Eulogy For America
Once we were revered and powerful. Now we are forgotten relics of the past, left to wither in the dust
of time. No longer are we feared or worshipped, with the vain hope of being spared. I am Lachesis,
measurer of the thread and this is the story of the unavoidable destruction of my sisters and I, the fates.
She spun around, there was fire, blood, and death everywhere. They had seen the army as it
approached, felt the thud of the earth from their marching. She called out for her son. There was no
escape, but she hoped for it anyway. She stumbled through the market, tripped on bodies and ignored
the wail of a babe that sat beside its mother s unmoving body. Relief bloomed in her chest, her
searching eyes found her son, he ran towards her. Her gaze swept past him and landed on us. Few
excepted what the sight of us meant, hiding even in their last moments from death. The youngest of
us, Clotho was humming almost serene, spinning thread onto its spindle. Myself measuring what she
spun to the determined length, our elder sister Atropos, cackling almost crazed, she snipped the thread
of life. Mortals they cling to life even as the inevitability of death crushes them beneath its merciless
power. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

with his sword and then discarded his body. She tried to reach him, but a spear protruding from her

Symbolism in The Lord Of The Flies.
William Golding was a British writer. He has written several novels, and has won
the Nobel Prize in Literature. His best known novel is The Lord of The Flies, published
in 1954. In The Lord of the Flies, William Golding uses different themes and symbols
to get the point of the novel across. These symbols include the pigs head, the
conch, and even the boys themselves. The author uses symbols to show societys rules
and faults.
The first symbol is the conch. Ralph and Piggy discover the conch in the
beginning of the novel on the beach. They use it as a horn to call any other survivors

order and civilization in The Lord ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It s a fire that Jack and his followers have started
in their hunt to kill Ralph.
Piggy is the smartest and most logical of the boys, and it simply seems natural
that his glasses are a symbol of intelligence. This symbolic implication is clear from the
start of the novel; the boys use Piggy s glasses to start a fire by focusing sunlight. When
Jack s hunters attack Ralph s camp and steal Piggy s glasses it means the loss of rational
thinking and savagery is starting to take over the boys minds.
The little uns believe that there is a beastie in the woods. It stands for primal
instinct of savagery that is within every human being. The beast frightens the boys, and
only Simon is able to realize that the reason they are afraid of the beast is because it
exists within each of them. Their belief in the beast grows stronger as they become more
and more savage. Near the end of the novel, some of the boys treat it as a god and leave it
sacrifices.
Many of the novels characters signify important themes. Ralph shows order,
leadership, control and society. Piggy represents the logical and intellectual characteristic
of life. Jack is a symbol of savagery, and the longing to rule. Simon and Roger portray
the good and evil in humans. Some might see the boys society in a political point of
view, the little uns as the common people and the older boys

and the strong opposition to their interference and to the shah.
The Iranian Revolution of 1979 was an accumulation of misjudgments by the U.S. foreign policy
makers of Washington D.C. It resulted from U.S. intervention in Iran s internal affairs during the three
decades that preceded the revolution. It came partially as a reaction to the political relations between
Iran and the United States.
The major turning point in both countries history was the interference of the C.I.A in the coup d état of

what was going to be a democracy in Iran. This coup is seen as the most important action that led to

Analysis Of The Play Hamilton
The play Hamilton by Lin Manuel Miranda brings the founding fathers back to life with a lot of hip
hop. It all started when Miranda, a writer, composer, and performer, was asked to perform at the White
House centered on the American experience. The White House expected him to perform something
based on his own Latin American experience, but Miranda had something else in mind. Few months
prior, Miranda was on vacation with his girlfriend when he started to read a biography on Alexander
Hamilton by Ron Chernow. Miranda was seized by the story of Hamilton. He was instantly inspired to
create a work chronicling Hamilton s life. He started to see Hamilton s relentlessness, ambition,

Monteiro states how she has seen the play, and loved it as a whole, but there were many issues with
how history was conveyed. Monteiro goes on to explain how the play does a lot of a thing called
Founders chic as a representational strategy. She points out that the play tried to represent founders as
relatable, cool guys. For example, the Founders chic strategy downplayed the involvement of the
Founding Fathers in slavery. The play did mention how slavery existed, and how Alexander Hamilton
was in opposition to it, but we had no idea on how his attitude was when he was a boy growing up in
the Caribbean. Alexander Hamilton worked on slave ship, making the chances that he was one
favorable to it a possibility. Miranda s point in contrast to that was to showcase the emotions rather
than substance. He was trying to image Alexander Hamilton s life, and how abolition of slavery was a
big part of shaping his life. In contrast to the idea of the play having inaccurate historical facts,
Miranda tried to make the play relatable to the people to really showcase Alexander Hamilton s life.
Miranda used the bootstraps narrative to help portray that. He talks about how Hamilton reminded him
of his own father, Luis A. Miranda, Jr., who, as a graduated from college before turning eighteen, who
then moved to New York to pursue his studies. In Review: Hamilton, Young Rebels Changing History
and Theater by Ben Brantley, he states how

Oscillatory has exercised vast inspiration by what method we abstract the link among Christianity and
philosophy. The situation has converted several societies circumstances to vision their culture of
resistance to foremost characteristics of the common philosophies as rather of which to be humiliated,
as well as rather that desires to remain rejected with the intention to convert traditionally liable.

Several do it over opposition, Christ against Culture. Additional do it by regular evangelizing,
conversion for example. Culture is immovable and Christ is the burdens of Jesus. Niebuhr precedes a
multicultural method with his five types of Christian ethics (Yoder, 1996). According to Atkinson,
(1995), the fundamental situation is that Christ is against culture. Culture is viewed as being
intimidating to Christianity in belief as well as tradition. Regardless of the society in which Christians
find themselves, they are called to oppose the customs and accomplishments of culture. Assurance to
Christ requires a decision (Yoder, 1996).
Christ against culture known as the New law on this interpretation the Lordship of Christ does not
define that untruth is the uppermost of abundant powers, on the other hand, that He is the solitary
power surrounding the Christians (GCU, lecture). It therefore, awards Christ and culture as a major
one or both superior; if we take up our cross and follow Christ, we need to discard any faithfulness to
culture. For example, the book of (1 John 2:15) declares, Do not love the world or anything in the
world; if anyone loves the world, the love of the father is not in him (NIV, 1995).
Christ of culture known as the Natural Law acknowledges an ultimate agreement amongst Christ and
culture (GCU, lecture). Christ Himself is beheld as a highest conqueror of culture. His life and

Compare And Contrast Mayan Civilization
The Mayan civilizations was one of the Mesoamerican civilizations. It existed around c1800BCE
through 1700CE. The Mayan society was very sophisticated for its time and was one of the most
populated and culturally diverse societies in the world, with its people having amazing skill in areas
such as architecture, agriculture, and writing. The Mayan civilization was located in Central America,
through present day parts of Guatemala, Belize, Salvador, Honduras, Tabasco, Campeche, and
Yucatan. This civilization also shared many similarities with the Egyptians.
The Mayan civilization was made of city states, with many being independent and ruled by their own
ruler, called Ajaw. The Ajaw served as a communicator between the gods and ancestors, and had ...

They were also heavily involved in trading as a Merchant class emerged, and took part in long
distance trading with other societies in Mesoamerica. Crops that they grew included corn, beans,
manioc, and squash. They would also trade for salt, cacao, and seashells.
The Mayans were also famous for their progress in astronomy. The Mayan people were very interested
in knowing more about what went on above, and studies the constellations, and were even the first to
discover the Orion Nebula. They also observed the movement of the planets, sun and earth.
More areas of note of the Mayans include their calendar and writing system. Their calendar included a
260 day sacred year and a 365 day secular year, which restarted every 52 years. The Egyptians also
had a calendar system. Today, the calendar is still used today by multiple groups in areas of
Guatemala. The Mayans writing system was extremely similar to those of the Egyptians, as both used
a system of hieroglyphics, pictures that represented something. Their writing systems were both used
to record calendar information, administrative data and

Male and Female Relations in To The Lighthouse
To The Lighthouse exemplifies the condition of women when Woolf was writing and to some extent
yet today. It offers a solution to remedy the condition of both men and women. To say the novel is a
cry for a change in attitude towards women is not quite correct. It shows the plight of both men and
women and how patriarchy is detrimental to both genders. Mrs. Ramsey. Both suffer from the unequal
division of gender power in Woolf s society. Lily is also very much a product of society, yet she has
new ideas for the role of women and produces one answer to the problems of gender power. Besides
providing these examples of patriarchy, To The Lighthouse examines the tenacity of human ... Show

Losing personality, one lost the fret, the furry , the stir (Lighthouse 63). When alone Mrs. Ramsey
must lose her personality because it is a show, a created essence which takes work to maintain. A
symbol of this is apparent when Mrs. Ramsey covers the skull in her children s room. She covers the
reality with a veil, much like all men and women cover their true identity in order to play the role
patriarchal society has given to them. Mrs. Ramsey even avoids looking at her own face in the mirror.
Is it possible that she would not even recognize herself? I think, yes, because she does not have a fixed
identity. She does not know who she is or what she really looks like. She must change in every
situation, with every different man she is expected to support.
Mrs. Ramsey supports these men in her life because that is the only way she can create an identity.
Woolf suggests that even this support may be false. Of course it is false, because Mrs. Ramsey has no
other choice. She cannot lose herself in her work like a man. Her work is to make men feel superior
and this is ingrained in her mind. Of her husband we are told that, She was not good enough to tie his
shoe strings, she felt (Woolf, Lighthouse 32).
In spite of the power of men, To The Lighthouse suggests that many men feel sterile. Perhaps men are
psychologically sterilized by power. Patriarchal men can form no equal relationships with women

Why It Is Important To Be Thankful Research Paper
It is important to be thankful for many reasons. We are thankful so we can be grateful for everything
we have. We are thankful so we can humble ourselves and not take everything we have for granted. If
you are not thankful you might seem stuck up or snotty because you seem like you are taking
everything for granted. I am thankful for hockey, for entertaining me, I am also thankful for money, so
my family can afford a home and food. And finally I am thankful for my grandparents, for loving me
and buying me what I want. I am thankful for money. I am thankful because my family can afford lots
of things we need and things we want. I am thankful because we can afford a home, so we re not
sleeping outside and we can be warm and not cold. It s also

Essay on Boethius and Plato s God
Plato was born in Athens, Greece around 427 B.C. He was always interested in politics, until he
witnessed his mentor and teacher, Socrates, death. After learning of the callousness of politics, Plato
changed his mind and eventually opened up The Academy, which is considered if not the first, one of
the first Universities. Students at the Academy studied many different fields of science, including
biological and astronomical. The students also studied many other fields, such as math. Plato
developed many views that were mathematical in nature. He expressed these views through his
writings. According to Dr. Calkins of Andrew University, Timaeus is probably the most renowned of
Plato s thirty five dialogues. [In it] Plato expresses that he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Boethius was involved in a consulship for most of his life, and is probably most admired for the
translations he completed in his lifetime, which include, Porphyry s Introduction to the Categories of
Aristotle and probably Aristotle s Metaphysics, Physics, De Generatione et Corruptione, De Anima,
and Poetics (Watts 16). Boethius was imprisoned and then executed in 524 AD, while imprisoned and
before his execution he wrote his best known work, The Consolation of Philosophy. In relation to
Plato s Demiurge, Boethius, being a Christian worships God. Watts, in summarizing in part the The
Consolation of Philosophy, says, Philosophy descends to Boethius form on high (I, 3) and leads him
back through various paths to God Himself... and the realization that God is the supreme good...
(Watts 25).
In order to compare or contrast the two entities, the characteristics must be explained. In a 2005 Bryn
Mawr Classical Review of T.K. Johansen s Plato s Natural Philosophy: A Study of the Timaeus
Critias, they explicate the Demiurges existence by saying, . ..the existence of the demiurge as an
inference to the best explanation of the order and beauty of the cosmos. (Bryn Mawr 1).The Demiurge
is also classified as an external cause of order. This is connected with the orders of being and
becoming expressed in Plato s Timaeus.

They are best known for their skates but after acquiring multiple companies they have expanded into manufacturing wide range of equipment from skates to hockey sticks. The company has expanded to new levels and now has the face of many NHL stars to represent their brand. For an athlete to stay relevant in their sport they have to adapt and get better year after year. It is the same for a worker, once they are not up to date on everything they need to know they became more of a liability for the company. This is because they are not as efficient as another work who would be up to date and could replace them. This is the same for manufactures of products, the product they are selling must be the best or top of the line so that it is appealing to the consumers. Another big part of issues manufactures have is that they need to have more than one version of the product. When marketing to a large number of consumers the product has to be the most appeal one on the shelf and in their price range. Bauer has to maintain a product line that will be affordable to a player who is trying a sports for his first time all the way up to the professional players. This transformation is however not perfect and brings into account how efficient the system is. The efficiency is the ratio between the input and intended output of the system. This unfortunately is never 100% and is a critical factor that plays into propulsion systems and fuel options. DRAG Drag is the aeronautical term for the air resistance encounter by an object in motion. Drag acts in the inverse direction to the objects movement through the air as it constrains its movement and acts parallel to the relative wind stream. Drag can be managed in aircraft and countered by increasing its aerodynamic properties. These include incorporating streamlined shapes, having cleaned surfaces, implementing flush fitting bolts and also several other configuration characteristics. The secondary responsibility of an aircraft s engine is to handle and conquer the drag. However, the more thrust produced the more air resistance encountered and consequently produces increased drag on the aircraft. • 12. Narrative Unreliability in Martin Amis Money In Money: A Suicide Note Martin Amis describes the life of John Self, an extremely successful filmmaker of TV adverts who takes part in the materialist game characterising the society of the 1980s. The protagonist is addicted to the 20th century, where he leads a careless life based on a daily abundance of drugs, alcohol, promiscuous sex, handjobs and the porn industry. However, this addiction leaves its marks on the body and character of John Self. For him life seems to be mainly a holiday, and a very expensive one indeed. Only far too late does he realise the dark sides of a lifestyle depending fully on money, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First of all, it is justified to claim that one of the reasons for John Self s own unreliability lies in the fact that he himself is sometimes not aware of certain aspects of the story. Therefore, it is only a logical consequence, and by no means part of Self s intention, that the reader is not properly informed about what is going on at several points of the novel. For example, the dubious existence of his antagonists Frank the Phone and the red haired woman who seems to follow Self almost everywhere are out of his own understanding. Consequently, he cannot offer the reader a plausible explanation for their motivation. In the end, it is the Martin Amis character of the novel, who sees through Fielding Goodney s insidious plot, identifies John Self s partner as being both Frank the Phone and the red haired woman and informs Self as well as the reader about his partner s real intentions. As a result of his own lack of knowledge, John Self is simply unable to grasp the real connection between certain elements of the story, and thus the readers have to figure out many things by themselves. Another incident, where John Self is rather clueless regarding the truth, is when it comes to his girlfriend Selina Street and her questionable faithfulness. Thanks to one of his friends, Self knows very early in the novel that she is cheating on him but he is simply unable to establish the identity of her new lover. It s still a mystery how the fire started, but some people have their own theories. A common legend told is that a cow kicked over a lantern in the O Leary s barn. Which started a blaze, and burned out of control because of the dry weather. The wrong fire department was called, which means it took longer for them to get there and put the fire out. • 14. Examples Of Positive Reinforcement Properly used, positive reinforcement is extremely powerful. (B.F. Skinner) This quote from B.F Skinner shows my opinion on the punishment v. positive reinforcement argument. According to the dictionary punishment is the infliction or imposition of a penalty for an offense. Examples of punishment include: loss of recess time, extra homework, detention, and loss of other privileges. According to the dictionary the definition of reinforcement is the process of encouraging or establishing a belief or pattern of behavior, especially by encouragement or reward. Examples of reinforcement are: teacher praise, earning privileges, teacher attention, taking away a homework assignment, extra recess time, and extending a deadline. Positive reinforcement and punishment within a classroom are constantly being tested to see which ones more effective when shaping a child s behavior, but in my opinion positive reinforcement is the better option. To back this up I am going to be using a combination of different experiments and surveys that have been conducted with student and teachers. Before speaking about studies and surveys and other cold fact I am going explain the different types of rein forcers that occur within any type of reinforcement process. The review will critically reflect my experience from this practicum, using readings and learnings my strengthens and weaknesses will be revealed. Strategies will also be implemented in what areas I need to focus on before my next practicum round. Something that I observed at the beginning of my practicum were the issues concerning behavioural guidance. There was a group of four boys who required the greatest assistance, my experience in managing people and being a parent quickly reminded me in how to best support them. Knowing each child and what their abilities and interests are enable educators to respond sensitively and appropriately to each child (Cohrssen, Church, Tayler, 2011). I spoke with my mentor and other educators and discovered the backgrounds of these boys and reasonings for their behaviours. I learnt by observing the other educators how these behavioural guidance issues were managed and the many techniques they used. Something I realised with the learning experiences I conducted was the need to not speak too quickly and be clear and concise with my instructions. As I have had limited interaction with young children as my stepchildren are now adults, I was unaccustomed in how to effectively communicate with young children. At the beginning of my practicum the instructions and direction I was attempting to provide were too ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Importance of Being Accepted When coming out as a gay individual, there is a desire to be loved and accepted for who they are by the family. When parents reject their child s sexual orientation it often comes to kicking the child out of their home out of shame for their sexuality. In recent statistics, Studies indicate that between 25% and 50% of homeless youth are LGBT and on the streets because of their sexual orientation or gender identity (Pflagnyc, Statistics You Should Know About Gay and Transgender Students). LGBT youth s also have an increased chance of living in an abusive household with older parents due to a contrast of two different generations. The young generation of today is more susceptible to accepting LGBT members because it is a more liberal time period. However, the older generations are most likely to shun them due to biblical or principals that they grew up with. The more accepting parents are of things they cannot change, the happier the child often is after coming out to them. Homelessness has become an issue in recent years as more teens are starting to come out to their parents, who have lived in the previous generation. Religion has played a key part in the rejection of LGBT youth s due to its blunt statements like, Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination (Bible 98). • 17. Grapes Of Wrath By John Steinbeck Have you ever realized that John Steinbeck talked about Religion in his book Grapes of Wrath? Well, if your answer is NO, let me inform you that Steinbeck did talk about Religion in his book. There are many similarities in John Steinbeck s Grapes of Wrath and Christ s story. In The Grapes of Wrath, Steinbeck presents religion in different ways ranging from Jim Casy s similarities to Christ, the use of Christian theology, and the symbolism of some characters as pastors. Throughout his book, Steinbeck recounts the great depression era and its effects on proletariats. The major theme throughout this book is the role of Christianity in the society. Marxism is a better theoretical lens to utilize for this paper because the book itself contains several Marxist key terms. By applying the Marxist theory on Steinbeck s book Grapes of Wrath, we can better understand how he uses Christian theology to advance his critiques of capitalism. Marxism is a literary theory that was developed by Karl Marx and his colleague Friedrich Engels. According to Karl Marx, human history is made of physical things as well as a variety of struggles between social classes: the lower class (oppressed) and the middle class (oppressing). This leads the author to search for the physical mechanism that occurs in the body to create the disease. In his observations, the author concludes that imbalances of the elements in the body (like the environment) cause disease. While physical and rational observations allow the author to properly treat a disease, the author s methods of allopathy are built upon the theoretical presupposition that the gods have indefinite power over the human body. This practice should remain banned and athletes should seek alternative practices that do not come with unusual added health risks. Though there are logical arguments for each side, there is more evidence to support the argument that blood doping should not be legal in athletic competitions. There is too much risk involved for the reward to be so miniscule. Blood transfusions became popular between the 1970s and 1980s with a diverse population of professional athletes. EPOs (a natural hormone made by the kidney s) followed blood transfusions and gained their popularity in the late 1980s (Eichner). The effects of EPOs were seen through the many health risks that the athletes encountered including the death of 20 European cyclists over a period of 4 years (Eichner). The 1998 Tour de France also saw its fair share of EPO use among athletes with one team being disqualified and 6 more teams dropping out (Eichner). Later came the use of synthetic or artificial blood. In recent years athletes have been accused of, and caught, using all of these methods to increase their endurance and performance. Tests are improving to be able to detect when an athlete has used one of these methods. Blood doping is a very controversial issue among the athletic community and continues to grow. The print The Great Wave off Kanagawa by Hokusai has many elements and principles of design that show how much the artist used them in his work. The Great Wave off Kanagawa by Hokusai has all the elements of design. For example, one of the best aspects of the print is Hokusai s utilization of line to create both motion and space in the wave (NGA). The curves of the wave and body of one boat drop just low enough to allow the base of Mount Fuji to be visible, and the white top of the great wave creates a diagonal line that leads the viewer s eye directly to the peak of the mountain top (Harris). The dramatically curved, upwards line of the wave frames the mountain, whilst the jagged ends act as claws which almost personify the waves into a hunter grasping at its prey; the frail, delicate fishing boats seem to have no chance against the water (Ladkin). There are many ways in which Hokusai uses line in The Great Wave off Kanagawa . Another element of design that Hokusai uses in The Great Wave is shape. For example, the Founders chic strategy downplayed the involvement of the Founding Fathers in slavery. • 47. Male and Female Relations in Virginia Woolf s To The... Male and Female Relations in To The Lighthouse To The Lighthouse exemplifies the condition of women when Woolf was writing and to some extent yet today. It offers a solution to remedy the condition of both men and women. To say the novel is a cry for a change in attitude towards women is not quite correct. It shows the plight of both men and women and how patriarchy is detrimental to both genders. Mrs. Ramsey. Both suffer from the unequal division of gender power in Woolf s society. Lily is also very much a product of society, yet she has new ideas for the role of women and produces one answer to the problems of gender power. Losing personality, one lost the fret, the furry , the stir (Lighthouse 63). When alone Mrs. Ramsey must lose her personality because it is a show, a created essence which takes work to maintain. A symbol of this is apparent when Mrs. Ramsey covers the skull in her children s room. She covers the reality with a veil, much like all men and women cover their true identity in order to play the role patriarchal society has given to them. Mrs. Ramsey even avoids looking at her own face in the mirror. Is it possible that she would not even recognize herself? I think, yes, because she does not have a fixed identity. She does not know who she is or what she really looks like. She must change in every situation, with every different man she is expected to support. Mrs. Ramsey supports these men in her life because that is the only way she can create an identity. Woolf suggests that even this support may be false. Of course it is false, because Mrs. Ramsey has no other choice. She cannot lose herself in her work like a man. Her work is to make men feel superior and this is ingrained in her mind. Of her husband we are told that, She was not good enough to tie his shoe strings, she felt (Woolf, Lighthouse 32). In spite of the power of men, To The Lighthouse suggests that many men feel sterile. Perhaps men are psychologically sterilized by power. Patriarchal men can form no equal relationships with women ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
