The Melian Dialogue, Written By Thucydides
The Melian Dialogue , written by Thucydides, is a classic argument mainly over power and realism
taken place under international politics. In this dialogue, consisting of the Athenians and the
Melians, the Athenians arrive on the island where the Melians had resided in attempt to conquer it.
At this time, the Athenians are at war with the Spartans and see that the island can only benefit
them in the war. Now, the Melians are kinsman of the Spartans, but they are a neutral state. The
Athenians, however, cannot accept the Melian s neutrality and offer them a kind ultimatum: pay
tribute to state of Athens or be destroyed. Later, the Athenians congregate with Melian
representatives in order to reason with them so they can accept their ultimatum. The Melians try to
convince the Athenians one... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Athenians also believe the Melians should carefully choose their fate and consider all the
possibilities rather than deliberately involving themselves in a war that they cannot fight. Yet the
Melians still believe that there is hope, and that the outcome of a war is not predictable nor
guaranteed. They also explain to the Athenians that if they attack their country, many awful
repercussions would ensue. As the Melians go on to list these repercussions, the Athenians oppose
each of their premises with their own reasoning. Ultimately, the Melian representatives conclude
that they would not surrender to the Athenians. Moreover, the Melian decision meant that they
would indeed go to war with the Athenians. As expected, the Melians were outnumbered and
overpowered, which forced them to do nothing but surrender to Athenians. Unfortunately, the
Athenians put to death all who were of military age, and made slaves of the women and

The Romans had a unique way of dressing. They had soccus as we know as socks, both men and
women wore them. Of course they wore shoes the had many types of shoes,as in the hobnailed

Summary Of The Dangerous Myths Of Grade Inflation
When it comes to the issues of education and the many different opinions on how education should
be ran; the finger always seems to be pointed at the students. It is the students fault that grade
inflation exists. It is the students fault that there is a lack of effort in the classroom. Think about it
though, are the flaws that occur in educationreally our fault? Maybe, maybe not. It is important that
everyone (educators, students, parents, and administrators), understand both sides to what is really
going on and the issues occurring in the academe world. An ongoing issue in the classroom is the
students lack of effort. Both teachers and parents often complain about students being rather torpid.
Is this really the students fault? Is it even the teacher s fault? On the student s side, they do not want
to be there. Us students are at schoola little over ten... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Does grade inflation actually exist? In the reading The Dangerous Myths of Grade Inflation by
Alfie Kohn, he gives plenty examples as to why grade inflation does not exist, Kohn also backs
up his examples with studies that have shown that there is no way to prove grade inflation
exists. However, even where grades are higher now as compared with then, that does not
constitute proof that they are inflate, this was stated in Alfie Kohn s reading. Although studies
have there there is not a way to prove grade inflation exists, there have been teachers and
professors that have admitted to using grade inflation. In class we watched a video called
Declining By Degrees: Higher Education at Risk that interviewed college professors that admitted
to participating in grade inflation. The reason behind this, is to save the teacher s job, or so
students continue to take their classes, or because they do not want to be known as a mean teacher.
It is possible that grade inflation exists but it is hard to find evidence to support

Physics in Cameras
Cameras have been a popular device ever since they were invented during the late 1800 s.
Cameras are electronics that give us the ability to capture a moment with the push of a button.
These little machines allow a real life image to be seen on paper and to be kept as a memento.
The way that cameras are able to do this is through physics. Cameras are relatable to physics
because they involve visible light, light refraction, light reflections, and electromagnetic fields in
the motor. Cameras are involved with physics because they use visible light to capture a picture.
Visible light is part of the electromagnetic spectrum. The electromagnetic spectrum contains
different wavelengths and frequencies. The visible light spectrum is the part of the electromagnetic
spectrum that humans can see. Specific wavelengths in the spectrum are represented by specific
colors. This is how humans are able to perceive colors, through visible light. When a camera
captures an image, it uses visible light to capture the different wavelengths. These wavelengths are
seen as different colors which come together to create the image. Visible light is what allows the
colors that create the image to be seen when the picture is captured.
Cameras are also involved with physics because they use light refraction to focus the image. Light
refraction is the change in the speed of light when it enters a medium of a different speed. For
example, lenses on a camera are mediums that refract light. The light wave

Argumentative Essay On Red Meat
In recent years, red meat has been controversial because it has been linked to heart disease and
cancer. The truth is today s red meat wasn t what it has used to be. Those we ate nowadays is
vastly different than before. The meat products may have been processed before sale. Regardless of
the fact that humans consumed red meatthrough different methods, many experts still believe that it
is more harmful to human body than health aspects. Eating red meatraises the risk of early death.
As red meat is high in protein and fats, it can contribute to different kinds of diseases and cancerto
our human body. Some people claim that red meat is healthy. However, there are some good
reasons that this is not true.
First and foremost, eating red meat may cause cardiovascular disease. The animal based dietary fats
that found in red meat, can lead to stroke and heart disease. After you ate the red meat, a great
amount intake of cholesterol and saturated fats would be added to your diet, which can accumulate
the fatty substance that would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Red meat can develop cancer in several ways. For instance, the protein contained in red meats
that can easily undergo a chemical change that associated with carcinogenic N nitroso
compounds, that may cause to colorectal cancer. The fat content of red meat may also contribute
to breast cancer since hormones is used in the process of red meat. Hormones can definitely
show estrogenic activity and may boost your breast cancer risk. Furthermore, eating red meats
increase the risk of bowel cancer. Red meat contains a compound called haem, which is red color.
The formation of carcinogenic N nitroso compounds is promoted. As a result, the production of
compounds that can lead to bowel cancer in human body when red meats are cooked in high
temperature. In addition, adding preservatives and processing also changes the nature of meats,
which may link to bowel cancer. (Red meat and cancer risk, Dr Rachel

Promises Not Kept Summary
1.The book by John Isbister, Promises Not Kept brings to light the real truth behind poverty and the
betrayal the third world received from the economics, legal, policy, and nationalism. What are the
two major promises that Isbister indicates were not kept in the 20th century? A first promise was
that to the leaders of the nationalist independence movements and the revolutions in the third
world. They promised the people s labor would be used for their own progress and not for the
enrichment of others. Almost all the nationalist leaders made this promisebut as we know not very
many kept it. The goal was to end poverty, I believe and as we know poverty is still alive and
growing daily. Ending poverty was a major movement towards independence but was... Show more

The term poor used here is that of poor countries and not just of the poor people in them. I don t
mean to laugh but that promise does cause a chuckle. I don t believe the rich would ever work
with the poor. The rich would want to come in and take over to earn the prestige of doing a good
deed. They would want the notoriety or fame of it all. As stated by Brad Pitt, By the time this
concert ends this evening, 30,000 Africans will have died because of extreme poverty. This just
is one example of how bad poverty is. Yes, I do agree with Isbister on his position. More rich
countries like the U.S. could do more in the fight to end poverty and lead the other nations to do
more as well. But first I believe that the U.S. needs to focus on their own people and then help
other poor countries. The United States has so many citizens that live below the poverty level
and that numbers grows daily. I am not saying that there are not good people in the world or in
the rich countries, but I am saying more of the leadership in the countries needs to step up and
lead by example. But I guess the first step is you need the right people put in power to begin with.
More humanitarians need to be in place to

Feminism And The Feminist Movement
Feminism is a movement that I have never really claimed myself to be a part. I have nothing
against those who want to stand for what they believe in, but I think there s a way it should be
done. Feminism is something that I have questioned a lot and have looked into. I am completely
for women feeling empowered; however, I find many things that I disagree with when it comes to
the feminist movement. I ve listed five of them:
1. Feminists tend to paint the picture like men are the only problem. It seems as if it s easier to
put the blame on men. Why do we have to bash men who are doing their jobs? As women, we
find it disrespectful when men use derogatory terms towards us; however, it s okay for women
to use the same derogatory terms. In my opinion, it s not okay. Feminists also seem to see one
side to certain issues. For example, feminists do not see men as being victims of domestic
violence. Men are not always the abusers and I think that is is very reactionary to have this belief.
Why is that if a woman does this action then there is a reason that follows. It doesn t make it right
and this makes feminists come across as being hypocritical. You have men who do the right thing
and they are degraded. Do you honestly want the responsibility of a man?
2. When it comes to oppression we haven t necessarily faced oppression like women in other
countries. We can complain about the job market and how we should get certain pay and jobs, but
there are women dealing with far worse

Transhumanism Research Paper
Transhumanism, a movement for people who wish to try to surpass the natural limitation of the
human body, has been around since the dawn of the first cyborg movie. People have wished to
have the abilities that the robots show in the films for years, however, by ridding humans of their
weaknesses as a species, we will no longer be fully humans. It will be taken over by half robot parts
that would advance vision, smell, hearing, and touch. Humanity will be lost. The technology that is
used in the transhumanism culture is negatively stretching the limitations of a humans natural body
and causing society to have unrealistic notions that these limitations can be surpassed.
There are plenty of extreme members in the group that calls themselves transhumanists. Many
mainly just crave slight alterations for those who really need technology to correct those which
are disabled, such as faux legs for those who have lost their own or hearing aids so that the deaf
can finally hear. These are the correct advancements that we need to work towards... Show more

The ideals that the transhumanists are trying to reach is not possible to the extent that they want.
To reach the technology that they want, society must sacrifice the natural limitations and a part of
their humanity. By manipulating the unknown of the human s limitations, a multitude of issues
could arise from the mechanics used in genetic engineering, mind uploading, etc. Instead of
pursuing just the advancement of the human race, transhumanism wants to take it to the next level
to where humans will no longer be considered a pure human. Although a lot of the technology that
has been made so far can be useful to those who have disabilities and handicaps, if it is taken any
further than what it already has been, it could prove to be detrimental to the human body. Instead of
trying to rid ourselves of our limitations, we should instead embrace

Project Appraisal
CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
PROJECT APPRAISAL
Every organisation has to examine the viability of each project before it provides financial
assistance. It has to ensure that the project will generate sufficient funds on the resources invested
in it. With the opening of new factory outlet, the study of viability of a project has become more
vital for financing a project.
Project appraisal the process of critical evaluation of all the six faces of the project appraisal
namely: 1. Technical analysis
2. Financial analysis
3. Legal analysis
4. Market analysis
5. Management appraisal
6. Ecological appraisal.

2 Legal Analysis:
The collateral properties, guarantees and other legal legalities with respect to the regulations of the
government will be analysed and this creates basis for further processes for the financial assistance.
3 Financial Analysis: Financial appraisal seeks to ascertain whether the proposed project will be
functionally viable in the sense of being able to meet the burden of servicing debt and whether the
proposed project will satisfy the return/expectations of those who provide funds Financial appraisal
involves the following terms. o Capital cost of projects and sources of finance
o Financial projections Cash flow and profitability estimates
o Ratio analysis
o Breakeven point
o Discounted cash flow techniques net present value and internal rate of return.
Capital cost
Estimation of the capital cost of a project provides the basic information to decide its pattern of
financing and profitability. If the cost of the project is not estimated correctly, the preparation of
cash flow and profitability estimates will be futile exercise because the amount of depreciation,
interest and dividend will change with the change in capital cost of the project. An entrepreneur has
to tie up the resources according to the estimates of the cost of the project. If there is an overrun in
the cost of the project, the entrepreneur may find it difficult to arrange for additional resources and it

The night of November 7th 2000 put a flawed aspect of American democracy at the forefront of
the world stage. The election to the office of the leader of the free world, the Presidency of the
United States of America was in question. How could a candidate receive more votes and still
lose in the richest most powerful democracy in the world? I need not to go into a debate about the
Electoral College as my stance will be clarified rather clearly. The night of the election it seemed
as if the Vice President and candidate for the Democratic Partywas poised for a close victor. As the
polls closed along the eastern seaboard, exit polling information indicated a clear, but narrow
lead for the Vice President as he still need to secure Florida and two states totaling 15 electoral
votes or more to win the Presidency (Toobin, 18). At 7:49 EST, NBC called Florida and the
election for Gore, and so did 2 of the 4 major television networks did the same in the following
minutes. As the night continued Gore secured Minnesota and New Mexico, but confusion in exit
polling data had led to a premature call for Gore (18, Toobin). As the red eye hours of the morning
continued all four media outlets reported a flood of data from Volusia County, Daytona Beach put
Bush up by more than 50,000 votes, thus the media outlets followed suit and eventually called
Florida for Bush. Although a questionable disappearance of

Integration Of Math And Science
Integration is a topic should be talked about because it is a topic that has multiple view points some
negative and some positives. No matter the viewpoints it is important to consider how integration
impacts the students. At the end of the day what students retain is what matters and retaining
information can happen in a variety of different ways. Integration provides a way to connect
multiple subjects and allows students to make connections. Integration can be difficult for teachers
to teach because the integration does not fit well, but the outcome of integration is beneficial. With
the heavy weight of assessments and standardized, tests teachers need to make sure that whatever
they teach needs to connect to standards and unites. Sciencehas become a subject that has been put
on the back burner because tests like Maps and Paws testing do not assess science. There are
many factors that affect what and how teachers teach. Integration of math and science is one way
to teach that allows teachers cover more than one major subject. Integration allows teachers to
teach science and math in the same environment that allows students to flourish. The classroom is
filled with a variety of different objectives and lessons and as teachers we need to make sure we
are using our time the best ability. The big question of this research is whether integrating math and
science is beneficial for students in the classroom. Each lesson and activity needs a purpose in the
classroom and

Harry Harlow s Article Discovering Love
Discovering Love is an article about the definition of love and the different aspects, such as how
it works and where you get it. Developmental psychologist Harry Harlow is the main contributor
to this study. Harlow was particularly interested in how early life experiences, specifically
interaction with one s mother or primary caregiver, impact an individual s ability to love and be
loved by others later in life. In the 1950 s, Harlow conducted a study using monkeys and surrogate
mothers made of artificial materials. He did various tests with the monkeys in which eight
monkeys were assigned to either a cloth or wire mother. Both surrogate mothers fed their monkeys,
provided heat and had the same shape. The only difference was what they were... Show more

One specific study in which Harlow is cited was done by two researchers by the names of
Eidelman and Feldman. They examined how crucial it is that premature infants receive an
appropriate amount of skin to skin contact. Without proper contact, (also called Kangaroo care)
premature babies are more at risk of death and life altering illness. This is quite a recent finding,
and it most definitely applies to life today when it comes to giving all infants the best care possible
to fit their needs. Another way that the study influences life today is how impactful the power of
touch really is. When trying to establish a bond with someone, physical contact could lead the way
to an unbreakable emotional bond. But how much is too much? Everyone has different needs, and
Harlow s findings show us that while all living things are unique, we all have relatively similar
things that must be done in order to achieve the healthiest emotional connection between anyone.
I agree that the Harry Harlow study is entirely relevant to life today, useful, and in no way cruel to
the monkeys involved. It demonstrates the importance of contact comfort

Explain how the conflict identified in the play related to human nature and the human condition.
Hi Class,
Macbeth is one of William Shakespeare s most famous plays of all time. I first learned of this
famous tragedy in high school and did not understand. The only thing to get me through at the
time was through that of cliff notes. Truly, the only way I understood it more so now was
through that of chapter thirteen breakdown in our textbook, and the You Tube video I watched.
I never understood it I suppose because of the language in which it is spoken until I watched the
play in its entirety and put the words to the movie. I now have a new image of this tragedy and
appreciation for Shakespeare s writing more so than when I was back in high school. It is

Lastly, the perception of Romanticism appeared in encounter with the Enlightenment within the

Cesario (Viola) is Olivia s lover. Viola does bring pain to Olivia due to her deception because
Olivia fell quickly in love with Cesario when he comes to woo her for Orsino. As stated, the play
does have a happy ending. Those who were set out pursuing for love got it for the most part.
Orsino and Viola ended up together, Olivia and Sebastian (Viola s twin brother) ended up

together. The same could not be said for Malvolio who was in love with Olivia. He was tricked
into thinking that Olivia returned the same affections, but in it was all a trick. Malvolio had the
mindset that Olivia loved him, but Olivia just thought he was going mad so she sent him off to
this dark cell where he remained until the end of the play. Malvolio s love for Olivia hurt him

Last year, after the election, the Republican party in our state house decided to eliminate public

However, not all unions were equally striped of their bargaining rights. Public workers such as

work and save money. People that pay no taxes still get to enjoy the benefits. The United States
needs to look at which taxis fairer to the people and easier to administer by the government.

A revolutionary change in our tax system is fundamental to re energizing the American economy
and restoring the American dream (Moore 1). Currently, there are two major plans being
considered to try and fix the tax system in the United States. These two plans are the Flat Tax
and the National Retail Sales Tax. Both the Flat Tax and a National Sales Tax would replace
today s discriminatory tax structure with a single low rate. Either plan would promote the kind of
capital formation that America needs to boost workers incomes and raise long term economic
growth (Mitchell 1). This means that the flat tax would take away the savings from the
government and pass them on to the citizens and businesses. By doing this, there would be a rise in
long term economic growth. The national sales tax would replace our current income tax system by
taxing goods and services. Under this system of taxation, people would pay taxes on every item
purchased and not on income. This would help the economy through sales. There would no
longer be an inheritance tax or a capital gains tax. The government would impose a 17.65 percent
tax on the value of all final sales to consumers. To protect lower income citizens, the government
would send all households periodic rebate checks, the net effect of which would be to offset the
tax burden on purchase up to the poverty level (Mitchell 2). This national sales tax is a popular

The Juvenile Justice System Essay
1.Name four problems that existed with the juvenile justice system in the early 19thcentury. The
juvenile justice system was subject to a lot of corruption and civil rights violations in its early
stages. Juveniles did not have the same rights as adults and could be forced into terrible living
or working conditions. With no child labor laws, delinquent juveniles could be sentenced to
forced labor in factories or to houses of refuge. With the ruling of Ex Parte Crouse, the state took
ultimate responsibility of children and send them to these institutions, even against the will of
the parents. Some of these institutions, such as houses of refuge may have started with good
intention, but they ultimately led to rampart corruption and abuse of juveniles. 2.Which type of
children and young people did Reform Schools focus on working with? Houses of Refuge were
intended for which type of juveniles? Reform schools formed to take custody of wayward or
incorrigible children that the state deemed necessary. A child could be taken from their parents
and sent to a reform school if it is deemed that the parents are not providing a good enough home
for them. Houses of refuge were designed to get juveniles out of the adult system. It was proven
that locking up youths with criminals was a bad idea for multiple reasons, so houses of refuge
were formed to separate them. They were designed for those juveniles that the state deemed
savable, and those seen as to far gone would be sent to the

accustomed to that routine for years until the games stopped occurring. Hemon perceived time on
a weekly base, looking forward to his fixated schedule; slight deviation of schedule gave him
anxiety. Even in his absence, time will continue on, pick up soccer games will continue to happen
and those willing to attend will be present there. The notion that time is circular can also be seen in

A Brief Note On Wildfires And Its Effects On The Environment
Every year, thousands of forest or wildfires are caused by humans, which affect thousands and
thousands of acres of land and wildlife all over the United States. Many of these fires that are
caused by human error or negligence, occur at many of the beautiful camp sites, that are located
around the country. In these cases, these fires not only affect the land and the wildlife, it puts
the lives of other camper s, in jeopardy as well. Especially since with wild or forest fires, there is
no way of telling how fast, or what location the fire will spread to. That is just on top of the
issue, that most of these locations are remote, which can limit the options that emergency
service personal (such as firefighters) have to use to fight them. These fires can be started in
many ways, such as unattended or out of control camp fires, improper placement of grills,
discarding of used coals in hazardous areas, unsafe or use of fireworks in forested area, etc. But,
there is an upside to the situation, since in many cases you can help prevent them from
happening at all. All it takes, is for campers to be responsible by following the proper safety
procedures when using any flammable items, and the proper knowledge and equipment needed in
case a fire may start (if fire is out of control and you are putting yourself or others on danger by
attempting to put it out, get yourself and everyone in the area to a safe location, and contact the
proper authorities immediately). So the next time you

Connecticut Compromise
Equality in the Senate sparked a lot of debates during the Connecticut compromise. Some argued
that equality in the Senate would lead to state corporate capacity, while others argued this will help
balance the national government. To an extent the reason why a good chunk of the debates focused
on the idea of a balanced Senate, in my opinion, was because this topic the more complicated part of
the Connecticut Compromise. The founders were fairly certain that one of the branches of the
legislator was going to represent each population of the state (there were some concerns regarding
slavery in the southern states; however, it wasn t a major issue during the Connecticut

The Years 1918-1939, Which Separate World War I From World
The years 1918 1939, which separate World War I from World War II, witnessed profound changes
in how technologically advanced military organizations would fight. In most of the cases, during
peacetime, military innovation, and technological developments played an empowering or helping
role in advancing profoundly new and more operative ways of fighting. In a narrow and strict
sense, such innovative improvements were revolutionary. The technological revolution reached the
battlefields and forever changed the way that armies required from the fragile airplanes and
unreliable tanks of World War Ito evolve into more sophisticated weapons by the late 1930s.

One of the lessons learned after the first world conflict is the necessity of using the third

of many military theorists concerned the emergence of the aircraft as a weapon and the adaptation
of this emerging capability on military operations. One of the Airpower advocates Giulio Douhet

Dealing With Predatory Home Mortgages
It is no secret that tens of millions of homeowners got into trouble with predatory home
mortgages. Tens of millions of them have MERS originated Mortgages. If you asked the average
mortgagor on the street if they knew what a MERS originated Mortgage was, they couldn t tell
you. They don t know because they weren t told at closing that the funds they were receiving to
buy their (generally over appraised) home may NOT have come from the source named on their
Mortgageor Deed of Trust. Instead, the MERSВ® System was used because the borrowers loans
were securitized. This system was created specifically for that purpose (to track the sale and
transfer of loans electronically, in a MERSCORP owned database, with no regulatory oversight).
You can t believe everything you read either. Due diligence is required here.
I do not see either the federal or state governments coming out and educating homeowners on the
subject of MERS originated mortgages and securitization. Nope. People didn t start finding out
about securitization until 2009, just after the foreclosure mess was revealed in the media. Then
there was the bailout. People didn t understand that either. People didn t understand that the banks
made some $53 trillion in credit default swap bets. In 2009, even most attorneys looking at the
bigger picture for the first time didn t know what credit default swaps were. Only the learned on

An Inferential Analysis of Hemingway s Hills Like White...
In Hemingway s Hills Like White Elephants I found many layers of symbolism, and a fascinating
psychological underplay afoot between his two characters. It begins with the girl s comment about
a line of white hills seen in the distance, which she compares to white elephants. The man responds
with the comment I ve never seen one.
The symbolism of a white elephant is widely known as something very large or apparent that no
one wishes to acknowledge or speak of in American society. It is an interesting opening to a very
strained conversation concerning an apparent pregnancy, and the man s wish to terminate it. The
couple s careful avoidance of actually naming the problem, or the proposed solution, suggests the
situation in which a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

it. He responds to this nervously, repeating that he doesn t want her to do it, it doesn t matter to

At that point, the waitress tells them the train is due in five minutes. The man escapes with the
bags, carrying them to the other tracks. This portion might suggest another symbolic element in
the story. Just as the two have switched their life course, they are now switching trains, heading
down a set of tracks carrying them towards a different outcome. He retreats to the bar inside,
where he has a drink alone while looking at the people waiting reasonably for the train , then
rejoins Jig, who smiles at him. And so the struggle between Jig and her lover is resolved. He has
won, and she has given up her dream. The elements of the story suggested a carefree couple that
traveled and drank their way across foreign landscapes together, with no responsibilities, until
suddenly, they faced one of the biggest responsibilities of all. Hemingway s depiction of their
conflict is in my opinion a stunning expose of a scenario that is all too common in the human
tradition, rife with assumptions and masterful in its inferential

Essay On Family Observation
For my observation on a speech event, I chose to observe my relatives coming to my home for a
small dinner/get together on Thanksgiving. I had around 13 families get together. As a custom of
greeting the guest, my brother and I had gone to open the door for them. To show respect toward
the elders, who were the grandparents, we had to put our hands together, bow, say Sat Sri Akal ,
and give them a hug. What I found interesting was that we greeted are uncles and aunts, my
brother and I had different ways to greet them. For me I would do the same things I did towards
the grandparents for my aunts, but when I greeted my uncles I never really gave them a hug. As
for my brother he had given hugs to both my aunt and uncle. I also noticed that my uncles would
say Sat Sri Akal and walk away, but for my brother almost all of them had a full on conversation
at the door and gave him hugs. While I mostly made conversations with my aunts. For my
cousins, the way we greeted them was completely different from the way we greeted the elders.
When we went the greet them there was no formality. Neither my brother or I said, Sat Sri Akal ,
bowed, or even put out our hands together; even if they were older than us. Instead, I would say
hi, while my brother would say sup to his male cousins and hi or hello to his female cousins. As

Health Disparities And Health Care For Minorities
Introduction
Racial bias in medicine leads to worse care for minorities is an article from U.S News world report
on the website http://health.usnews.com/health news/patient advice/articles/2016 02 11/racial bias
in medicine leads to worse care for minorities.
In this article, the experience of a medical doctor is used to shed light on the subject of racial bias
/ discrimination in health care and how it is affecting health outcome of racial and ethnic minority.
Race or ethnic group is a major social factor that influences health in the U.S Braveman 387. Health
inequity is at the center stage of public health discussion. Understanding the upstream factors that
causes inequities and disparities can help to bridge the gap of inequality. Eliminating health
disparity will protect and improve the health of racial and ethnic minority population, which is
consistent with the principle of public health improving and protecting health of populations.
Concepts and analysis
The article is based on the experience of a Dr. Ron Wyatt, a reputable medical doctor/ patient
safety officer, who sought medical care in a hospital when he had a fever of 104 degrees. The
hospital was referred to as an award winning hospital. The article suggested that he received
lackluster and substandard care from racially biased medical personnel. Considering the events of
that day, one can only imagine the process of conferring award on individuals and institutions. His

Corner Detection Are Useful for Computer Vision...
Corner detection and its parameters: position, model and orientation are useful for many computer
vision applications, such as object recognition, matching, segmentation, 3D reconstruction, motion
estimation [2, 3, 4, 34.] indexing, retrieval, robot navigation and in our case edge tracking from
geometry design. This need has driven the development of a large number of corner detectors [1,
5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13.]. Other methods for corner detectionare described in [14, 15]. These
detectors compete with each other in terms of precision localization, accuracy, speed, and
information they provide. Model classification and orientation are the most interest information
needed in process of edge tracking.

Corner strength has been first defined by Noble [12] from which a slightly different version
has been proposed by Harris and Stephen [11]: (1.2)
The role of the parameter k is to remove sensitivity to strong edges.
The Plessey operator uses estimates of the variance of the gradient of an image in a set of
overlapping neighborhoods. This detector, which produced much interest, was extended by
including local gray level invariants based on combinations of Gaussian derivatives [17].
One of the earliest detectors [16], which was based on the Moravec operator, defines corners to
be local extrema in the determinant of the Hessian Matix, H=M.
The Kitchen and Rosenfeld operator [5] uses an analysis of the curvature of the grey level
variety of an image. The SUSAN operator [18] uses a form of grey level moment that is designed
to detect V corners, and which is applied to other model of corner.
The earlier Forstner [22] algorithm is easily explained in terms of H (Hessian Matrix). For a more
recently proposed detector [20], it has been shown [21] that under affine motion, it is better to
use the smallest eigenvalue of H as the corner strength function.
Recently, George Azzopardi and Nicolai Petkov [36] propose a trainable filter which we call
Combination Of Shifted FIlter REsponses (COSFIRE) and use for keypoint detection and pattern
recognition.

The Russian Federation believes that the anti dumping measure on some steel products has caused
a decrease in profits from the steel or steel based products as well as the questionable legality of the

to the Request for Consultations by the Russian Federation, the European Union imposed definitive
anti dumping duties retroactively, even though the conditions for levying definitive anti dumping

to sustain their own life because who else would know their mind better than themselves? The

patients of their humanity. The cost effectiveness of euthanasia and assisted suicide will be a
huge stress relief for terminally ill patients while also benefiting those patients that are not

Therefore, if these things are not exchanged with the help of wisdom then Socrates believes that
the aspect of virtue is ...a mere illusion. (Phaedo 69b). In conclusion, Socrates view on morality is
based upon justice, examining how to live, and expanding one s wisdom.
Purpose Socrates found his purpose through oracles and dreams by a divine power, ...since I was
trying to find out the meaning of the oracle, I was bound to interview everyone who had a
reputation for knowledge. (Apology 22a), from the oracle of Apollo, Socrates believed that his
purpose was to philosophize. Socrates would question reputable wise men and try to prove the

Mission San Antonio Analysis

simply teaching the natives even though all of them had studied music and sung in choirs prior to
coming to the New World. They were simply not professional musicians, according to the padre
from mission San Antonio (Geiger and Meighan 1976:135). Because of this lack of experience or
proper training, many padres were less skilled at teaching and found... Show more content on

This failure to teach the natives music reinforced the padres ethnocentric beliefs. Padre Narciso
Duran, known for his leadership in Mission San Jose, once said, that the boys did not possess the
ability to take up singing (Sandos 2004:136). Despite these widely held beliefs that underestimated
the native s abilities, Duran began to question his notions after seeing some native boys from a
neighboring mission playing European instruments. Because of this observation, he was inspired to
teach the natives from his mission music. But during his first attempt, he was unable to get the
natives to memorize the music, which reinforced his ethnocentric notions and led him to believe
that ... the Indians are so short on memory (Ray and Engbeck 1974:10 meaning that they had

However, even where grades are higher now as compared with then, that does not constitute proof that they are inflate, this was stated in Alfie Kohn s reading. Although studies have there there is not a way to prove grade inflation exists, there have been teachers and professors that have admitted to using grade inflation. In class we watched a video called Declining By Degrees: Higher Education at Risk that interviewed college professors that admitted to participating in grade inflation. The reason behind this, is to save the teacher s job, or so students continue to take their classes, or because they do not want to be known as a mean teacher. It is possible that grade inflation exists but it is hard to find evidence to support ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Physics in Cameras Cameras have been a popular device ever since they were invented during the late 1800 s. Cameras are electronics that give us the ability to capture a moment with the push of a button. These little machines allow a real life image to be seen on paper and to be kept as a memento. The way that cameras are able to do this is through physics. Cameras are relatable to physics because they involve visible light, light refraction, light reflections, and electromagnetic fields in the motor. Cameras are involved with physics because they use visible light to capture a picture. Visible light is part of the electromagnetic spectrum. The electromagnetic spectrum contains different wavelengths and frequencies. The visible light spectrum is the part of the electromagnetic spectrum that humans can see. Specific wavelengths in the spectrum are represented by specific colors. This is how humans are able to perceive colors, through visible light. When a camera captures an image, it uses visible light to capture the different wavelengths. These wavelengths are seen as different colors which come together to create the image. Visible light is what allows the colors that create the image to be seen when the picture is captured. Cameras are also involved with physics because they use light refraction to focus the image. Light refraction is the change in the speed of light when it enters a medium of a different speed. For example, lenses on a camera are mediums that refract light. The light wave ... • 7. Promises Not Kept Summary 1.The book by John Isbister, Promises Not Kept brings to light the real truth behind poverty and the betrayal the third world received from the economics, legal, policy, and nationalism. What are the two major promises that Isbister indicates were not kept in the 20th century? A first promise was that to the leaders of the nationalist independence movements and the revolutions in the third world. They promised the people s labor would be used for their own progress and not for the enrichment of others. Almost all the nationalist leaders made this promisebut as we know not very many kept it. As stated by Brad Pitt, By the time this concert ends this evening, 30,000 Africans will have died because of extreme poverty. This just is one example of how bad poverty is. Yes, I do agree with Isbister on his position. More rich countries like the U.S. could do more in the fight to end poverty and lead the other nations to do more as well. But first I believe that the U.S. needs to focus on their own people and then help other poor countries. The United States has so many citizens that live below the poverty level and that numbers grows daily. I am not saying that there are not good people in the world or in the rich countries, but I am saying more of the leadership in the countries needs to step up and lead by example. I have nothing against those who want to stand for what they believe in, but I think there s a way it should be done. Feminism is something that I have questioned a lot and have looked into. I am completely for women feeling empowered; however, I find many things that I disagree with when it comes to the feminist movement. I ve listed five of them: 1. Feminists tend to paint the picture like men are the only problem. It seems as if it s easier to put the blame on men. Why do we have to bash men who are doing their jobs? As women, we find it disrespectful when men use derogatory terms towards us; however, it s okay for women to use the same derogatory terms. In my opinion, it s not okay. Feminists also seem to see one side to certain issues. For example, feminists do not see men as being victims of domestic violence. Men are not always the abusers and I think that is is very reactionary to have this belief. Why is that if a woman does this action then there is a reason that follows. It doesn t make it right and this makes feminists come across as being hypocritical. You have men who do the right thing and they are degraded. Do you honestly want the responsibility of a man? 2. When it comes to oppression we haven t necessarily faced oppression like women in other countries. People have wished to have the abilities that the robots show in the films for years, however, by ridding humans of their weaknesses as a species, we will no longer be fully humans. It will be taken over by half robot parts that would advance vision, smell, hearing, and touch. Humanity will be lost. The technology that is used in the transhumanism culture is negatively stretching the limitations of a humans natural body and causing society to have unrealistic notions that these limitations can be surpassed. There are plenty of extreme members in the group that calls themselves transhumanists. In the 1950 s, Harlow conducted a study using monkeys and surrogate mothers made of artificial materials. This is quite a recent finding, and it most definitely applies to life today when it comes to giving all infants the best care possible to fit their needs. Another way that the study influences life today is how impactful the power of touch really is. When trying to establish a bond with someone, physical contact could lead the way to an unbreakable emotional bond. But how much is too much? Currently, there are two major plans being considered to try and fix the tax system in the United States. These two plans are the Flat Tax and the National Retail Sales Tax. Both the Flat Tax and a National Sales Tax would replace today s discriminatory tax structure with a single low rate. Either plan would promote the kind of capital formation that America needs to boost workers incomes and raise long term economic growth (Mitchell 1). This means that the flat tax would take away the savings from the government and pass them on to the citizens and businesses. By doing this, there would be a rise in long term economic growth. The national sales tax would replace our current income tax system by taxing goods and services. Under this system of taxation, people would pay taxes on every item purchased and not on income. This would help the economy through sales. There would no longer be an inheritance tax or a capital gains tax. The government would impose a 17.65 percent tax on the value of all final sales to consumers. The founders were fairly certain that one of the branches of the legislator was going to represent each population of the state (there were some concerns regarding slavery in the southern states; however, it wasn t a major issue during the Connecticut Compromise) just the founders did not know how to fairly represent the other branch. What Martin Luther is saying is that if the large states had as much say as the small states it would naturally lead to inequality in the Senate. The large states would simply have to share the same opinion to overpower the Senate. This would lead to the small states in having no say in what happens in the country. Personally I do not agree with Luther s concerns. It logically does not make a lot of sense, in my opinion. If every state has equal say there is really no way that one state can overpower the other. In most of the cases, during peacetime, military innovation, and technological developments played an empowering or helping role in advancing profoundly new and more operative ways of fighting. In a narrow and strict sense, such innovative improvements were revolutionary. The technological revolution reached the battlefields and forever changed the way that armies required from the fragile airplanes and unreliable tanks of World War Ito evolve into more sophisticated weapons by the late 1930s. • 32. An Inferential Analysis of Hemingway s Hills Like White... In Hemingway s Hills Like White Elephants I found many layers of symbolism, and a fascinating psychological underplay afoot between his two characters. It begins with the girl s comment about a line of white hills seen in the distance, which she compares to white elephants. The man responds with the comment I ve never seen one. The symbolism of a white elephant is widely known as something very large or apparent that no one wishes to acknowledge or speak of in American society. It is an interesting opening to a very strained conversation concerning an apparent pregnancy, and the man s wish to terminate it. The couple s careful avoidance of actually naming the problem, or the proposed solution, suggests the situation in which a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At that point, the waitress tells them the train is due in five minutes. The man escapes with the bags, carrying them to the other tracks. Just as the two have switched their life course, they are now switching trains, heading down a set of tracks carrying them towards a different outcome. He retreats to the bar inside, where he has a drink alone while looking at the people waiting reasonably for the train , then rejoins Jig, who smiles at him. And so the struggle between Jig and her lover is resolved. He has won, and she has given up her dream. The elements of the story suggested a carefree couple that traveled and drank their way across foreign landscapes together, with no responsibilities, until suddenly, they faced one of the biggest responsibilities of all. The Plessey operator uses estimates of the variance of the gradient of an image in a set of overlapping neighborhoods. This detector, which produced much interest, was extended by including local gray level invariants based on combinations of Gaussian derivatives [17]. One of the earliest detectors [16], which was based on the Moravec operator, deп¬Ѓnes corners to be local extrema in the determinant of the Hessian Matix, H=M. The Kitchen and Rosenfeld operator [5] uses an analysis of the curvature of the grey level variety of an image. The SUSAN operator [18] uses a form of grey level moment that is designed to detect V corners, and which is applied to other model of corner. The earlier Forstner [22] algorithm is easily explained in terms of H (Hessian Matrix). For a more recently proposed detector [20], it has been shown [21] that under afп¬Ѓne motion, it is better to use the smallest eigenvalue of H as the corner strength function.
