Stereotypes In The Hunger Of Memory By Richard Rodriguez
Society will continue to judge humanity based on race, culture, and intelligence. Stereotypes affect
how citizens determine their future. Demonstrated in the excerpt The Hunger of Memory, Richard
Rodriguez faces stereotypes when he travels to the United States to achieve a higher education.
Likewise, in the essay Superman and Me, Sherman Alexie is assumed to be less intelligent based of
his ethnic background. Both of these authors futures are influenced differently based off the prejudice
situations they face. Whereas Rodriguez perceives differences as continuing in a stereotypical
humanity, Alexie perceives differences as expanding beyond stereotypical standards. Within the
excerpt The Hunger of Memory , Richard Rodriguez delivers his inspirational story about how he
came from nothing and made his life into something worthwhile. Richard Rodriguez grew up as a
tremendous disadvantage kid. Richard Rodriguez states, I was a socially disadvantage disadvantaged
kid (124). Since Rodriguez s family was poor, he would often be the poorest student amongst his
peers. Richard Rodriguez states, ... been a classmate to children of rich parents... (125). Sitting next to
his rich peers, did nothing, but motive Rodriguez into believing he could be rich himself. To better
himself and be presented a great opportunity in life, Rodriguez packed up his things and moved to
America at the age of thirty. Moving away isolated himself from not only his family, but his own

Therefore, having strong leadership is needed when addressing change. Organizational leaders need to
have a well developed vocabulary to help improve performance during organizational change.

the employees the vision of the organization will not be achieved. In order for leaders to achieve new
initiatives they must actively involve employees that are most affected by the change through every

The Advantages of Public Transportation In Human Life What is public transportation? Public
Transportation is shared passenger transport service which can be using by all people. There are many

Scottsboro Trial Analysis
Beware: Injustice Ahead!
Rape is considered a very serious topic and is not taken lightly, however it was different in this case. It
was taken as a joke and it was laughed about rather than frowned upon. Justice was snatched away
because of this vulgar joke . The Scottsboro Boys Trial, that took place in Alabama from 1931 to
1937, revealed the consequences of false accusations, explained the loss of innocence, and established
the miscarriage of justice.
The Scottsboro Trials had set a limit to falsely accusing someone and created a legacy of racism that
had never been forgotten. Also discovered aboard were two white female millworkers, Victoria Price,
age nineteen, and Nancy Bates, age seventeen. Fearful that they, too, would be arrested, ... Show more

This letter from Haywood Patterson shows exactly that: Anything might happen at such a place and
then again I had received several threats on my life and they would not give me any Medical attention
there and worked me quite hard every Day when I couldn t hardly get around my leg. You see they
sent me right out of the Hospital one day and the next day I was put to work (Kinshasa 186). This
proves how Haywood Patterson was being treated in a brutal way and was not given any medical
attention which is only one example of the miscarried justice. Patterson had not been shown the proper
respect because he was being worked too hard when he was ill. If this was not because of the color of
his skin then what other reason would it be? First, they had been given unprofessional and ineffective
legal counsel a real estate lawyer and an elderly attorney who had not tried a case in decades who
offered no witnesses or closing arguments to the jury. Then the testimonies of the boys themselves
conflicted with one another, as six denied the rapes entirely while the other three alleged that the six
had committed the acts; the boys later stated they lied about the rapes because they had been beaten
and threatened ( Scottsboro Boys Trials ). The boys had their mouths taped shut because they had been
beaten and threatened which is another example of miscarried justice. They were destined to lose this
case because they were given a lousy counsel and lawyer to fight for their justice. How could there be

Comparing Paradise Lost And Frankenstein
The significance of the quote Did I request thee, Maker, from my clay/To mould Me man? Did I
solicit thee/From darkness to promote me? is very important to the basis of the entire story because
this shows the relationship between creation and creator throughout the book, from when Frankenstein
created the monster to the very end of the book back to Walter and Frankenstein on the boat. The
parallel between the novels Paradise Lost and Frankenstein and Adam and the Creature is also
significant in the view of the two novels as well. Firstly, the monster sees himself as a tragic figure
when he reads Paradise Lost, and compares himself to both Adam and Satan. Like Adam, he is
shunned by his creator, though he strives to be good. The monster never wanted to come into this
world in the first place. The creature is only here by force, since Frankenstein made him, and is not
taking responsibility for him at all either. Just like Adam, God brought him into the world, but shuns
him, so that s why the creature ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once his creation is completed, he flees realizing how he made the creature is hideous to society and
mankind but that s not how the creature really is, going back to the quote from Paradise Lost. The
creature never asked to be created, he came into the world because if Frankenstein s actions and really
can t do much about it. He feels depressed that Frankenstein did all this work to bring him in to this
world but won t even take responsibility for what he did, what he created. That s the big connection
between the Creature and Adam in Paradise Lost, the connection of being shunned by your creator,
that s why the creature empathizes so well with this story thinking that it is his story, that this was his

Actually, eagles are all of that and more. In the United States, the Bald Eagle is a symbol of justice,
strength, and fairness. The Bald Eagle is after all, our national symbol. However, to the rest of the
world the eagle may bring to mind many different images. That is because there are many different

Alcohol Consumption And Metabolic Syndrome
Both alcohol consumption and metabolic syndrome are risk factors for development of fatty liver
diseases with similar pathology which ultimately can result in development of liver cancer.3, 4, 24
273, 4, 23 26 Using a two stage mouse model in which tumor initiation by DEN was followed by a
35% high fat diet, we have previously reported increased tumor incidence, suggestive of a diet related
promotional effect.11 Consistent with these findings, in the current study, we observed increased
adenoma incidence and tumor multiplicity in the HF/CAS group relative to chow controls. More
importantly, substituting SPI for casein in the diet produced a marked reduction in hepatic lipid
accumulation, inflammation and cell proliferation, resulting in lower tumor incidence and multiplicity.
SPI feeding prevented liver weight increase and hepatic steatosis in HF fed mice relative to mice fed
casein (Figure 1). In rats, replacing casein with soy in various feeding regimes has also led to
significant reductions in hepatic weight and steatosis .17, 28, 29 This was found to be associated with
hepatic activation of PPAR signaling pathways and inhibition of SREBP signaling which might
promote fatty acid utilization over fatty acid synthesis.17 Similar mechanisms may be operating in our
mouse model, as SPI induces genes involved in fatty acid uptake, fatty acid degradation and oxidative
phosphorylation. The employed model demonstrates protective effects of SPI in early tumorigenesis.

Impact Of Black Friday
Impact of Black Friday on Society
We already know that the Black Friday is an American tradition that consists of a drop in prices in
major stores, during the last Friday of November, coinciding with the opening of Christmas shopping.
But what is the origin of this celebration?
The first use of the term Black Friday occurred not to refer to Christmas shopping, but in relation to an
economic crisis: on Friday, September 24, 1869, two relentless Wall Street financiers, Jay Gould and
Jim Fisk, After an intense work to obtain great benefits, they failed in their efforts, and the market
went bankrupt. For that reason, that day was named as the Black Friday .
Another of the stories that accompany the term Black Friday has to do with the role of small
businesses in the market. Tradition has it that, after a whole year of losses, finally, after Thanksgiving,
the Christmas season arrived, the day from which the benefits began, and with them, instead of red
numbers, black numbers were produced.
Others claim that its origin dates back to November 19, 1975, the day in which the New York Times
first coined the adjective black to refer to the disorder of the traffic and the chaos that had occurred in
the city of Nueva York in that year, due to discounts the day after Thanksgiving.
The tradition is indeed a positive practice for the economy of a country, simultaneously, gives the
possibility to millions of hard workers to recover their lost through the year, and to

architectural design of the Carolingian period. There are many things to do in Château de Tours such

Marmoutier Abbey was a monastery just outside the city of Tours which was found in around the
fourth century. It is one of the earliest places of worship in the entire region. It later became a very
important abbey and had a lot of influence on the city culture and politics. One of the best things to do
in Marmoutier Abbey is to see the old ruins of ancient buildings that once were part of the great
monastery. The only material work that was done was of transcription to better understand prayer
instructions. One of the things to do in France is to enjoy the various places that depict different
religious elements such as the Marmoutier Abbey. Marmoutier Abbey though has a bloody history. It
was ravaged by Normans in the ninth century. The monastery again received importance during the
days of the crusades but then faded away. It was officially terminated during the French Revolution
after which the condition of most buildings present at Marmoutier Abbey quickly deteriorated. The
abbey contains a private school these days but there are many ruins that remain here which can be

Hamlet Film Vs Film Essay
Over the course of the past fifty years there have been many cinematic productions of Shakespeare s
Hamlet, some of which remain true to the text while others take greater liberties with the original
format. Director Kenneth Branagh s 1996 production of Hamlet was true to Shakespeare s work in that
the film s dialogue was delivered word or word as it is presented in the text. In contrast, Franco
Zeffirelli conducted his 1990 production of Hamlet in a much more liberal direction in which lines,
scenes and characters were omitted from the film. I argue that from the perspective of an individual
with moderate knowledge in Shakespearian literature, that the best film versions of Hamlet are those
that take the most liberties from the text. I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both the first and the third of the aforementioned changes that Zeffirelli made to the film have a minor
impact on the audience s understanding of the underlying themes that exist throughout the play.
In act 3 scene 3 Claudius performs his soliloquy which acts like a window into the true nature of
Claudius guilt. This excerpt of the play is the first time we encounter Claudius confess blame for the
crime against his brother. This self confession further demonstrates the guilt that Claudius exhibits in
act 3 scene 2 when Claudius flees the theater after Hamlet arranges a play reenacting the events of his
father s murder. As Claudius states on line 56, May one be pardoned and retain th offense? This line
depicts the true nature of Claudius guilt: He does not regret his actions, for his actions have granted
him My crown, mine own ambition and my queen. (3.2.55) Claudius is content with his gains, his
only guilt stems from the fact that he believes he will not go to heaven because of his actions.
Zeffirelli as opposed to Branagh shortens this soliloquy which causes a loss of perception into the
complex role that guilt plays throughout the story.
Like the presence of the theme of guilt, the film also neglects the theme of war. The character of
Fortinbras is important because his invasion of Poland brings forth the literal act of war, which is a
representation

Theme Of The Word Love And Arranged Marriage
Another area of similarity is the theme of love being explored exhaustively. There are different
dimensions of love in the two stories. In The Word Love and Arranged Marriage, We only have each
other she often told her. (Banerjee 58) This suggests that there is a pure demonstration of compassion
and maternal love displayed by the lady s mother towards her. The writer perfectly captured how she
never remarried and dedicated her life to raising her despite the fact that her husband died two months
after her birth. The passionate love that existed between the lady and her foreign lover is noticeable.
Though she is overwhelmed by the impending consequence of her relationship which is antithetical to
the Calcutta s marriage rite (There has not been rain for a long time.) I am cherished. (Banerjee 61).
This suggests how intense and profound her love is to the guy; she feels she is blessed. She found it
difficult to separate and work away. In fact, at a time, she almost forgot about the issue of arranged
marriage. In the same vein, the theme of love is depicted in Silver Pavements ... Show more content

There seems to be a clash of culture. In the first story, the foreign lover can t understand why the
mother would oppose their relationship. To him, it is just absurd. There is a clash of the culture here
because, in Calcutta, Marriage is usually arranged between couples sometimes without their
knowledge like the case of the lady s mother who got to know her husband on the wedding day. In
Silver Pavement and Golden Roof, the theme of culture clash is also artistically explored. First, public
drinking is not frequent in Calcutta. Secondly, people calling themselves bad names are uncommon in
Calcutta, and lastly, people attacking foreigners does not exist in Calcutta. For the lady, all of this put
together come as one rude shock which later degenerated to disillusionment and feelings of nostalgia

Hrothgar Quotes
Beowulf is an epic about a hero who takes on great challenges and adventures. This story dates back
to the Anglo Saxon period. The character Beowulf, encounters the virtues of the Anglo Saxon culture
and beliefs. The traits the he encounters from the Anglo Saxon society are strength, bravery, courage,
and the desire to help the helpless. The character of Hrothgar establishes to Beowulf how to be a
successful king. Hrothgar is a mentor and father figure to beowulf about how to become a wise ruler.
Hrothgar s old age and experience at being king helps beowulf become a successful king. Beowulf
mentioned right gladly I grant your wishes but first, one word of warning. That sword you spoke of it
will avail nothing with Grendel, whose life is proof against all weapons whatsoever, wrought by man.
You must go for him with your hands, your bare hands (Page 6). Hrothgar demonstrates experience to
Beowulf in this quote by telling him Grendel can t get hurt by a sword. If it were not for Hrothgar,
Beowulf would have gone to fight Grendel with a sword and probably would have gotten killed.

does not accept the offer, this prepares Beowulf physically and mentally to fight. Confident Beowulf

The Importance Of Minority Rights In America
America is the number 1 nation in the world! is a common phrase we hear time and time again.
American citizens, in my opinion, have a distorted view on how awesome our country is. America was
founded on the idea of freedom at least freedom for white men at the time. While we have grown and
made bounds for the rights of minorities like African Americans, Hispanics and women; there is still
room to grow. So many of our citizens feel disenfranchised by our government and that our
implemented democracy doesn t grant them the same rights as others. This is usually a feeling felt by
those in minority groups. Many in the majority don t realize that there are these discrepancies in our
democracy because it s not something that affects them. That is one of the obstacles, many turn a blind
eye to the injustices they see within our democracy because they do not want to get involved or they
want the status quo to stay intact. The majority s desire to stay on top in our country is a huge
influence in how those in the minority then view their abilities. Many minority members feel hopeless
and that despite speaking up a power shift to equality will never be attainable. There is a profound
lack of representation of minority groups in offices of power. As discussed in this class, there have
only even been eight African American US Senators, and only two currently in the Senate now. This
lack of representation harms minority youth because when they have grand dreams of changing the

The Power Of Delaying Gratification Analysis
Alex Lickerman, author of the article The Power of Delaying Gratification , discuss about the
experiment psychologist Walter Mischel did on the kids to understand their self control. Basically, he
give a group of children a cookie and he give them to option either they could eat the cookie
immediately or they can wait until he come back however if they wait for him to back they will
receive another cookie. Based on his experiment he conclude that the kid who resist to eat cookie and
wait for him to gain another cookie they will do better in the school than the kids who did not resist.
For instances, they will get higher sat scores than who eat the cookie immediately. Likewise, I attempt
to do the same experiment instead of using cookie I use candy because teenager loves candy therefore
it will be difficult for them to refuse candy. So, I try to do the experiment on students who are in
regular classes and they need special helps from the teacher. Based on the results, I realize only
freshman and sophomore find it difficult to candy seniors are also found difficult to resist candy. This
interacts with Walter ideology because I did experiment students who are in regular classes and
Walton states that kids who resist to eat candy straightway will do better in the school. Therefore, the
students I did experiment they find difficult to resist the candy so they are in regular class. My
textbook says about the delaying gratification is the children who had more self control in

The Effects Of Diabetes And Driving Ability
There have been a variety of studies performed trying to determine the effects of diabetes and driving
ability. The possible negative effects on top of preexisting concerns about the safety of the elderly
driving only adds to the seriousness of the situation. Driving under the influence is illegal because it is
not safe, and Cox, Fonder Frederick, Kovatchev, Julian, and Clarke s study (2000), Progressive
Hypoglycemia s Impact on Driving Simulation Performance, proves there to be potential serious harm
because of impairment. The researchers hypothesized that low blood sugar, also called hypoglycemia,
could impair one s driving ability.
The study consisted of 37 adults with type 1 diabetes. All participants have had diabetes for a
minimum of two years, have taken insulin, are current drivers, and not be taking any medications that
influence hypoglycemia or driving factors. There were 16 men and 21 women. On average, the
participants have had diabetes for 17.5 ± 10 years. There were three general issues investigated. First,
was the blood glucose levels where driving impairment was first observed. Second, the blood glucose
levels at which the person detects impairments and whether or not they take corrective action by
pulling over or drinking soda. And lastly, the actual underlying mechanisms related to the awareness
and corrective behavior. They conducted the study by closely monitoring many factors while they
participated in a realistic driving simulation course. The

A Place On The Page Essay
A Place on the Page Just north of Chillicothe, Ohio, the land changes from flat, black soil farmland to
rolling, coal filled hills. The place becomes increasingly familiar to me the green sign for Jesus In the
Hills Camp, the brown sign for Leo Petroglyph, friends and relative s homes and as I navigate the
slopes and curves that lead me back to my childhood home in Jackson, a pleasant nostalgia begins to
take some of the tension out of the muscles around my neck and shoulders. After a decade of twisting
and contorting myself into an unsuitable life in Christian ministry, I began to write and my attention
turned back to my home, to that familiar landscape. I found the beauty in the cultural distinctiveness
once taken for granted, even held in contempt. I had been fed, clothed and educated by money made
from mining coal, and I am the product of a family that valued work and the love of the written word
as a conduit for understanding and contextualizing our place in the world. And so, this is what I write
about, the place and the people I know. Although I am not a Southern writer, I am drawn to writers
from the South because of their distinctive voices and desire never to divorce characters from place.
Their stories and characters struggle with the human condition generational poverty, extractive
economies, and familial dysfunction in the same way that I witnessed people going about their lives in

Proper intelligence input is essential to taking informed decisions on issues of national security.
Intelligence agencies are important arms of the State for meeting external challenges and for the
proper management of internal security.
In brief, our national security objectives are: (i) preservation of territorial and maritime integrity of the
country; (ii) having friendly relations with all countries; (iii) providing for sustained economic and
social development accessible to all; (iv) creating credible capacities to meet conventional and non
conventional threats and challenges emerging from space and cyber space; and (v) nurturing the
values of secularism and democracy. These objectives set the agenda for our policies and programmes
and bring out the challenges that we face in the future for the successful prosecution of these
objectives.
To consider the security environment in which we have to fashion our policies, we find that the global
strategic context is changing rapidly, driven by the speed of technology development, realignment of
forces with the recent decline in the markets of the West along with emerging economic strength and
rise of China and India. Many see in this a strategic shift from the West to the East, but one has to be

Pectin Concentration Graph
Graph one demonstrates pectin concentration s effect on gel strength. In theory an increased amount of
pectin would lead to a higher gel strength because there would be more chains of polysaccharides to
link together and form a gel. The more pectin chains, the more cross links occur, trapping more water
and creating a firmer gel. Overall this graph does show that a higher pectin concentration will yield a
stronger gel. The use of .46% pectin was used as a control to test other factors, so it is expected that
there would be a variety of gel strengths for that specific concentration. However, looking at the other
points there is a clear trend that as the percent pectin increased, so did the gel strength. Graph two

the sugar content and pH in order to know about the jelly. One could also use that information to

2.0: Introduction:
This part reviews some of the available literature on concepts, theories and previous research findings
pertaining to the research problem so as to establish the theoretical and empirical base of the study.
Literature review is used by the researcher to bring the reader update with current literature on a topic
and forms the base for another goal, such as future research that may be needed in the area. It is also
used to provide solid background information under the study. The literature reviews aims at finding
the gap between what other authors have explained theoretically and empirically and what has not
been explained. The knowledge gap needs to be established and fitted by the researcher.
2.1: Concept and Measurement of poverty
2.1.1: Definition of poverty
Poverty of an individual or household is defined as a state of having an income or consumption
expenditure which is below a certain level/standard known as the poverty line (Bigsten ; Abebe,
2003). Townsend (1985) defined poverty as not only a failure to meet minimum nutrition levels but
also as a failure to keep with a standard of living prevailing in the society. Thus according to
Townsend a household is considered as being poor if and only if its standard of living is below that of
the society. Poverty on the other hand can be observed as the condition of a household being unable to
meet basic needs including food, shelter, education etc. (World Bank, 1996).
According to the economist a household

The Importance Of Origin Stories
On some levels, origin stories are just that, stories. Growing up, whenever I read origin stories or
myths, they seemed extremely unrealistic and I always questioned whether they were actually true or
just make belief. As I became older, I began to develop a better understanding of things, and when I
reread those stories, I realized that there was a much bigger picture behind every story. Origin stories
are essentially traditional tales, usually ones that concern the early history of people, or that explain
some natural or social phenomenon. A lot of the time origin stories have animals or objects depicting
humans, or have some sort supernatural activities going on which makes the stories seem unrealistic,
but behind all of that I was always able to find some sort of message or explanation that proved to be
very useful. Some origin stories would explain how our ancestors came to be, others would include a
moral but most importantly, every story was like a window, a window that allowed us to get a better
comprehension of our past. A big question that is always being asked is Should origin stories be
encouraged to people ? My answer is yes. Yes we should encourage origin stories because they teach
us valuable life lessons, solidify and shape our cultures, and give us a deeper understanding of our
past.
Life lessons are tremendously important. Many say that in order to learn a life lesson, you must live
through one. They are not wrong, but there is a much easier way to

The Hubble Telescope Report
The first reason why shutting down Hubble would be a calamity is that it made important
contributions to the development of astronomy and the exploration of the universe in the history.
Traced back to the historical period, in 1946, the astronomer Lyman Spitzer put forward a large space
telescope and he thought that this type of telescope was more advantages than a ground based
telescope. In 1976, the European Space Agency joined the program and provided telescope s solar
panels in order to facilitate the implementation of scientific operations. In 1986, because the design of
the shuttle s sold rocket boosters made a mistake and led to the Space Shuttle Challenger and its crew
suffered a heavy blow. Through the continuous research of scientists, in April 1990, the Hubble Space
Telescope launched for the fist time and it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These challenges helped NASA and the European Space Agency to create a historical legend. In 1993,
astronauts installed COSTAR in order to restored Hubble s vision and meet the designer s
expectations. Then, they also updated some of the components such as ESA provided solar arrays and
associated control electronics ( HubbleSite , 2012, para. 7 ). By updating component, Hubble
contained a extensive data to measure the universe, and astronomers used this telescope to do more in
depth research. In 1997, with the constant innovation of Hubble Space Telescope, Servicing Mission 2
occurred, and it improved Hubble s spectroscopic capabilities with the insertion of the Space
Telescope Imaging Spectrograph (STIS) ( HubbleSite , 2012, para. 8). In addition, they also created
Near Infrared Camera and Multi Object Spectrometer (NICMOS), it showed Hubble s view of the
universe to a new spectral regime those wavelengths slightly longer than visual light ( HubbleSite ,
2012, para. 8). In 2009, astronauts made the Cosmic Origins Spectrograph (COS) was that the most
sensitive ultraviolet spectrograph ever built for Hubble ( HubbleSite , 2012, para.

An Analysis Of Flannery O Connor
The percentage of people who say they believe in God, pray, frequently go to religious services,
embrace minimal religious practices or find their faith meaningful has declined over the last 50 years.
A growing group of Americans do not believe in God or any organized faith. In fact, unbelief is even
fashionable. Religious conviction is perceived as burdensome or an outdated attitude easily discarded.
This is the backdrop upon which 20th century American, Southern Gothic writer, Flannery O Connor,
wrote her books and short stories in the 1950s and 1960s. She, in her short stories and books of
fiction, did not describe beautiful rooms or people living happily ever after; she wrote about the
human condition in the American South and the state of religious conviction. She wrote about
unbelievers, lukewarm souls, narcissists and the spiritually illiterate. She wrote about racists, white
trash, busy bodies and poor, beaten down black folks. She wrote about the unraveling of faith where
the default mode for her characters was apathy, smugness, desapir or indifference. She believed the
South was haunted by religion but as a group were literally swimming in mediocrity, cynicism and
emptiness a rough and tumble nihilism. They might say their faith mattered or attended services, but
many were just lying to their neighbors and themselves. To her, they were just checking the box with a
faith bordering on tepid and pathetic. She felt, given their current status, they would not know a

The Controversy Over Creationism And Evolution
Introduction The controversy over Creationism and Evolution is a widely debated topic, especially
when it comes to what is being taught in the biology classrooms in public schools today. It may be
hard to imagine, but just over 100 years ago the curriculum and beliefs would have looked
dramatically different. One central court case that created a spark of bringing evolution to public
schools was the infamous Scopes trial of 1925 in which science teacher John Scopes challenged
Tennessee state law and taught evolution in his high school science class. Tennessee state legislature
had passed a bill, known as the Butler Act just months before, banning the teaching of evolution. The
American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) represented Scopes after his arrest in a case that riveted
public attention. Although at trial Scopes was ultimately found guilty, the Butler Act was no longer
enforced and laws prohibiting evolution being taught in the classroom continually were defeated over
the course of the next two years. In 1968, the ACLU went to the Supreme Court on behalf of Susan
Epperson to fight against the ban on teaching evolution in Arkansas. The Supreme Court ruled
unanimously that the ban as unconstitutional as the First Amendment under the Establishment clause
does not allow teachings to tailor to certain religions ( State of Tennessee V. Scopes, n.d.). For this
project, we ll take a deeper look at this controversy. With evolution being the commonly accepted
theory among

Naturalism In Call Of The Wild
Jack London seemed to be a socialist at heart, however, in his book Call of the Wild he writes with a
under developed naturalism perspective. Naturalism in literary terms applies two major tenants. The
first being heredity and environment are the significant forces that shape human beings. The second
tenant conveys that the author presents life exactly as it is in reality. Some writers may omit
insignificant details that slow the flow of a passage down. However, a naturalistic style will include
these details. The author writing in this style strives to be objective and detached preferring to write as
if he were observing the characters in their natural setting and then reporting what he has witnessed.
London sometimes strays from this style ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The hair of this man was long and matted, and his head slanted back under it from the eyes. He uttered
strange sounds, and seemed very much afraid of the darkness, into which he peered continually,
clutching in his hand, which hung midway between knee and foot, a stick with a heavy stone made
fast to the end. He was all but naked, a ragged and fire scorched skin hanging part way down his back,
but on his body there was much hair. In some places, across the chest and shoulders and down the
outside of arms and thighs, it was matted into almost a thick fur. He did not stand erect, but with trunk
inclined forward from the hips, on legs that bent at the knees. About his body there was a peculiar
springiness, or resiliency, almost catlike, and quick alertness as of one who lived in perpetual fear of
things seen and unseen

Analysis Of The Star Spangled Banner
As our national anthem, the Star Spangled Banner is more than familiar to us Americans. For most of
the times, we feel a sense of patriotism when the tune rises. Usually, our society confirms that the
lyrics of the national anthem promote a sense of praise to our nation. This makes people rarely
examine what other messages our national anthem wants to pass to us. However, Jimi Hendrix, the
renowned rock guitarist from the late 1960s, interpreted our national anthem in a very different
perspective. He used different sound effects and crafted special emphasis throughout his recreation of
the song in the Woodstock music festival for one purpose celebrating the freedom of expression in this
country. The presentation of optimistic and pessimistic viewpoints throughout the performance
signifies the listeners the praise to the freedom of expression in America the spirit which enables us to
grow from our struggles. As American citizens, we have the lyrics of the Star Spangled Banner at our
fingertips. However, most of us never think about what these words stand for. Usually, we generalize
the entire song to symbolize American patriotism with the often positive sounding accompaniment.
Nevertheless, Jimi Hendrix s recreation of the Star Spangled Banner, is pressuring his audiences to
closely examine the lyrics of the Star Spangled Banner.
A very special structural characteristic of this song, as you might not have noticed before, is that it
constantly asks questions. For example,

Faulkner s Barn Burning
The Analysis of William Faulkner s Barn Burning Theme
Barn Burning by William Faulkner talks about the relationship and loyalty of a son, Colonel Sartoris
Snopes or Sarty to his father, Abner Snopes. The story is told from the ten year old Sarty s perspective.
All of his life, Sarty has always been taught to value family ties. However, at ten, he understood that
his father has committed actions that are wrong, and these actions often hurt their family ties.
Although not even a teenager yet, Sarty had to face the fact that he needed to defend his wrong father,
a problem that no young boy should encounter. Because of the two contradictory things, the boy had
to experience inner conflicts. He described it as being pulled two ways like between ... Show more

This can be seen in the incident after the trial when Abner stroke his son in order to ensure him of the
ill will of the men who took Abner to trial. During the incident, Abner accused Sarty of almost
betraying him in court, which was a groundless accusation. However, he only wanted to make his
claims more believable when saying that these men only wanted revenge and that he was in the right
position all along. However, Sarty was not convinced and did not even speak a word. He kept what he
believed in inside his head, which was the truth, for fear of his father s wrath, and throughout the
story, Sarty s inner battle continues. On the outside, he pretended to always be on his father s side, but
in the inside, he knew that his father was wrong. However, this did not last long. Despite his actions of
defending his father when de Spain announced the fine, the doubts of his father was getting even
stronger than ever. When his father asked him to get oil, he loudly protested against the action as he
knew his father was about to use the oil for another wrongful act. In the end, Sarty decided to take
another road, a road that led to the separation of the family. Similarly, another study also mentioned
that although in the end, Sarty had to face the fact that he needed to part from his family in order to
satisfy his

Point Barrow Alaska Essay
Barrow, Alaska is the United States northernmost city on the Arctic Ocean. Barrow is made up of a
population of mostly Iñupiat Eskimo native and a fraction of Caucasian and other minority citizens.
Point Barrow (n.d.) suggests that archaeological evidence dates human habitation by Iñupiat Eskimos
in the area from about 500 A.D. The city was named for Sir John Barrow, British promoter of Arctic
exploration; its Iñupiaq name is Ukpeagvik, meaning Place Where Owls Are Hunted (Point Barrow,
n.d.). With scarce resources available, Iñupiat peoples subsist on the land and sea of north and
northwest Alaska. Construction of the Distant Early Warning (DEW) line and exploration in the

As important as it is, Arctic coastal sea ice plays a vital role in dynamics of the coastline, covers
stretches of open water which serve as important biological habitats, and serves as a platform for a
broad range of activities by residents and industries (Druckenmiller et al., 2009). Sea ice is also
important because it is used as a platform for harvesting seals and whales in spring, transport of
personnel and supplies to camps, and as a network of trails (Druckenmiller et al., 2009). Dangerous
effects of climate change include ice breakouts which are when large chunks of ice that whalers are

The Physics Of Welding Process
WELDING PROCESS
Overview:
It is defined as a process of joining two pieces of metals by heating the metal at high temperature
which results in softening or melting of metals. There are various other ways of welding, they are as
follows:
With or without application of pressure.
With or without the use of filling metals (Melting point is 800º F)
There is a tremendous progress in recent times over the new methods, applications and systems for
welding.
HISTORY OF METAL WORKING:
This processes are practiced since the humans began to found that they could shape rocks by chipping
them with other rocks. The first metal which were used by early human beings was copper that is
Ductile (It can be easily bend or drawn, hammered). The welding technology began 3000 years ago in
Egypt (4000 B.C and USA before 2000 B.C). The Old Testaments which were recovered from the
earth s crust reflects the use of Forged metals, bronze and iron metals. In between 3000 and 2000 B.C
Bronze metal was developed and Iron came into existence several thousand years after the invention
of copper. Philistine recovered four iron furnaces of 1300 B.C this was the same metals used in
production of swords, chisels, daggers and spearheads. Egyptian began making iron tools during 900
to 850 B.C, they replaced usage of bronze in various manufacturing applications with iron after 800
B.C.

The Importance Of Ethical Dilemmas In Nursing
Becoming a nurse includes responsibilities ranging from safe patient care to handling laws and ethical
dilemmas that can happen within that patient care. One thing that falls under these responsibilities for
a nurse is the mandatory reporting law. Nurses are mandated to report any suspicion of abuse
following facility policy (Henry, et al., 2016). This includes clients ranging from children to
vulnerable persons, such as older and dependent adults. The time frame for reporting abuse is within
30 days of the occurrence. Diagnoses of communicable diseases are also mandated to report to the
appropriate agencies, such as local and state health departments. The diseases that are reported vary
for each state (Data Collection and Reporting, 2017). The reporting needs to be done by the health
care provider within 30 days. The health departments have many tasks to ensure after reports of
communicable diseases. A correct treatment plan needs to be in place. Identifying the source of
outbreaks and monitoring for epidemic precautions are also things to be done after this type of report.
Nurses face many ethical dilemmas throughout their career as well. Ethical practice is an important
concept in nursing, based on what is considered right or wrong. This is making a choice between two
options that are equally unfavorable. Ethical dilemmas are problems for which more than one choice
can be made and the choice is influenced by the values and beliefs of the decision makers (Henry, et

Forced Labor Camps In Germany
In this research paper, I will explain the different aspects of slavery in the forced labor camps of
Germany in the late 30 s and early 40 s. Many different categories of labor camps were created during
the second World War in order to classify the inmates. These prisoners were not treated the usual way
an inmate might be treated. They would be forced to work in bad conditions with limited access to
sustenance. They were forced to work at an unrealistic pace and would be killed if they were unable to
keep up that rate. Many deaths were caused by these forced labor camps which were directed and
guided by the Nazis and, as the war continued, slave labor camp procedures continued to increase
which, as a result, brought many more deaths. During

Mother-Daughter Relationships In Amy Tan s Two Kinds
Two Kinds Compare and Contrast Essay
Mothers and daughters are known to disagree with each other at times and many believe that it is a
natural occurrence. However, it is uncommon for a mother and her daughter to have such a different
view on a certain idea that their conflicting perspectives cause an emotional rift to form in their
mother daughter bond. The story Two Kinds, written by Amy Tan, tells the tale of Jing mei and her
mother, an example of one of those terrible occurrences. Jing mei s mother always wished for her
daughter to be successful by any means necessary, but unfortunately, Jing mei and her mother had two
very different ideas on what it meant to be successful. These different perspectives on success

Parallelism In Psalm 1
Initially, Psalm 1 first begins with blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or
stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers (Psalm 1, New International
Version). Furthermore, after analyzing the passage I have determined the type of Hebrew parallelism
this passage exhibits is synthetic or formal parallelism. Therefore, synthetic or formal parallelism is
defined as nonparallel text, where the second line of the text contributes to the first line (Tullock
McEntire, 2012, p. 190). Consequently, the main theme of the passage is to identify how the believers

  • 2. Stereotypes In The Hunger Of Memory By Richard Rodriguez Society will continue to judge humanity based on race, culture, and intelligence. Stereotypes affect how citizens determine their future. Demonstrated in the excerpt The Hunger of Memory, Richard Rodriguez faces stereotypes when he travels to the United States to achieve a higher education. Likewise, in the essay Superman and Me, Sherman Alexie is assumed to be less intelligent based of his ethnic background. Both of these authors futures are influenced differently based off the prejudice situations they face. Whereas Rodriguez perceives differences as continuing in a stereotypical humanity, Alexie perceives differences as expanding beyond stereotypical standards. Within the excerpt The Hunger of Memory , Richard Rodriguez delivers his inspirational story about how he came from nothing and made his life into something worthwhile. Richard Rodriguez grew up as a tremendous disadvantage kid. Richard Rodriguez states, I was a socially disadvantage disadvantaged kid (124). Since Rodriguez s family was poor, he would often be the poorest student amongst his peers. Richard Rodriguez states, ... been a classmate to children of rich parents... (125). • 5. Scottsboro Trial Analysis Beware: Injustice Ahead! Rape is considered a very serious topic and is not taken lightly, however it was different in this case. It was taken as a joke and it was laughed about rather than frowned upon. Justice was snatched away because of this vulgar joke . The Scottsboro Boys Trial, that took place in Alabama from 1931 to 1937, revealed the consequences of false accusations, explained the loss of innocence, and established the miscarriage of justice. The Scottsboro Trials had set a limit to falsely accusing someone and created a legacy of racism that had never been forgotten. Also discovered aboard were two white female millworkers, Victoria Price, age nineteen, and Nancy Bates, age seventeen. Fearful that they, too, would be arrested, ... This letter from Haywood Patterson shows exactly that: Anything might happen at such a place and then again I had received several threats on my life and they would not give me any Medical attention there and worked me quite hard every Day when I couldn t hardly get around my leg. You see they sent me right out of the Hospital one day and the next day I was put to work (Kinshasa 186). This proves how Haywood Patterson was being treated in a brutal way and was not given any medical attention which is only one example of the miscarried justice. Patterson had not been shown the proper respect because he was being worked too hard when he was ill. If this was not because of the color of his skin then what other reason would it be? First, they had been given unprofessional and ineffective legal counsel a real estate lawyer and an elderly attorney who had not tried a case in decades who offered no witnesses or closing arguments to the jury. Then the testimonies of the boys themselves conflicted with one another, as six denied the rapes entirely while the other three alleged that the six had committed the acts; the boys later stated they lied about the rapes because they had been beaten and threatened ( Scottsboro Boys Trials ). The boys had their mouths taped shut because they had been beaten and threatened which is another example of miscarried justice. They were destined to lose this case because they were given a lousy counsel and lawyer to fight for their justice. How could there be such a lack of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Comparing Paradise Lost And Frankenstein The significance of the quote Did I request thee, Maker, from my clay/To mould Me man? Did I solicit thee/From darkness to promote me? is very important to the basis of the entire story because this shows the relationship between creation and creator throughout the book, from when Frankenstein created the monster to the very end of the book back to Walter and Frankenstein on the boat. The parallel between the novels Paradise Lost and Frankenstein and Adam and the Creature is also significant in the view of the two novels as well. Firstly, the monster sees himself as a tragic figure when he reads Paradise Lost, and compares himself to both Adam and Satan. Like Adam, he is shunned by his creator, though he strives to be good. The monster never wanted to come into this world in the first place. The creature is only here by force, since Frankenstein made him, and is not taking responsibility for him at all either. Just like Adam, God brought him into the world, but shuns him, so that s why the creature ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He feels depressed that Frankenstein did all this work to bring him in to this world but won t even take responsibility for what he did, what he created. • 8. Alcohol Consumption And Metabolic Syndrome Both alcohol consumption and metabolic syndrome are risk factors for development of fatty liver diseases with similar pathology which ultimately can result in development of liver cancer.3, 4, 24 273, 4, 23 26 Using a two stage mouse model in which tumor initiation by DEN was followed by a 35% high fat diet, we have previously reported increased tumor incidence, suggestive of a diet related promotional effect.11 Consistent with these findings, in the current study, we observed increased adenoma incidence and tumor multiplicity in the HF/CAS group relative to chow controls. More importantly, substituting SPI for casein in the diet produced a marked reduction in hepatic lipid accumulation, inflammation and cell proliferation, resulting in lower tumor incidence and multiplicity. SPI feeding prevented liver weight increase and hepatic steatosis in HF fed mice relative to mice fed casein (Figure 1). In rats, replacing casein with soy in various feeding regimes has also led to significant reductions in hepatic weight and steatosis .17, 28, 29 This was found to be associated with hepatic activation of PPAR signaling pathways and inhibition of SREBP signaling which might promote fatty acid utilization over fatty acid synthesis.17 Similar mechanisms may be operating in our mouse model, as SPI induces genes involved in fatty acid uptake, fatty acid degradation and oxidative phosphorylation. The employed model demonstrates protective effects of SPI in early tumorigenesis. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Impact Of Black Friday Impact of Black Friday on Society We already know that the Black Friday is an American tradition that consists of a drop in prices in major stores, during the last Friday of November, coinciding with the opening of Christmas shopping. But what is the origin of this celebration? The first use of the term Black Friday occurred not to refer to Christmas shopping, but in relation to an economic crisis: on Friday, September 24, 1869, two relentless Wall Street financiers, Jay Gould and Jim Fisk, After an intense work to obtain great benefits, they failed in their efforts, and the market went bankrupt. For that reason, that day was named as the Black Friday . Another of the stories that accompany the term Black Friday has to do with the role of small businesses in the market. Tradition has it that, after a whole year of losses, finally, after Thanksgiving, the Christmas season arrived, the day from which the benefits began, and with them, instead of red numbers, black numbers were produced. Others claim that its origin dates back to November 19, 1975, the day in which the New York Times first coined the adjective black to refer to the disorder of the traffic and the chaos that had occurred in the city of Nueva York in that year, due to discounts the day after Thanksgiving. The tradition is indeed a positive practice for the economy of a country, simultaneously, gives the possibility to millions of hard workers to recover their lost through the year, and to ... It is one of the earliest places of worship in the entire region. It later became a very important abbey and had a lot of influence on the city culture and politics. One of the best things to do in Marmoutier Abbey is to see the old ruins of ancient buildings that once were part of the great monastery. The only material work that was done was of transcription to better understand prayer instructions. One of the things to do in France is to enjoy the various places that depict different religious elements such as the Marmoutier Abbey. Marmoutier Abbey though has a bloody history. It was ravaged by Normans in the ninth century. The monastery again received importance during the days of the crusades but then faded away. It was officially terminated during the French Revolution after which the condition of most buildings present at Marmoutier Abbey quickly deteriorated. • 11. Hamlet Film Vs Film Essay Over the course of the past fifty years there have been many cinematic productions of Shakespeare s Hamlet, some of which remain true to the text while others take greater liberties with the original format. Director Kenneth Branagh s 1996 production of Hamlet was true to Shakespeare s work in that the film s dialogue was delivered word or word as it is presented in the text. In contrast, Franco Zeffirelli conducted his 1990 production of Hamlet in a much more liberal direction in which lines, scenes and characters were omitted from the film. I argue that from the perspective of an individual with moderate knowledge in Shakespearian literature, that the best film versions of Hamlet are those that take the most liberties from the text. I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both the first and the third of the aforementioned changes that Zeffirelli made to the film have a minor impact on the audience s understanding of the underlying themes that exist throughout the play. In act 3 scene 3 Claudius performs his soliloquy which acts like a window into the true nature of Claudius guilt. This excerpt of the play is the first time we encounter Claudius confess blame for the crime against his brother. This self confession further demonstrates the guilt that Claudius exhibits in act 3 scene 2 when Claudius flees the theater after Hamlet arranges a play reenacting the events of his father s murder. As Claudius states on line 56, May one be pardoned and retain th offense? This line depicts the true nature of Claudius guilt: He does not regret his actions, for his actions have granted him My crown, mine own ambition and my queen. (3.2.55) Claudius is content with his gains, his only guilt stems from the fact that he believes he will not go to heaven because of his actions. Zeffirelli as opposed to Branagh shortens this soliloquy which causes a loss of perception into the complex role that guilt plays throughout the story. Like the presence of the theme of guilt, the film also neglects the theme of war. The character of Fortinbras is important because his invasion of Poland brings forth the literal act of war, which is a representation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Theme Of The Word Love And Arranged Marriage Another area of similarity is the theme of love being explored exhaustively. There are different dimensions of love in the two stories. In The Word Love and Arranged Marriage, We only have each other she often told her. (Banerjee 58) This suggests that there is a pure demonstration of compassion and maternal love displayed by the lady s mother towards her. The writer perfectly captured how she never remarried and dedicated her life to raising her despite the fact that her husband died two months after her birth. The character Beowulf, encounters the virtues of the Anglo Saxon culture and beliefs. The traits the he encounters from the Anglo Saxon society are strength, bravery, courage, and the desire to help the helpless. The character of Hrothgar establishes to Beowulf how to be a successful king. Hrothgar is a mentor and father figure to beowulf about how to become a wise ruler. Hrothgar s old age and experience at being king helps beowulf become a successful king. Beowulf mentioned right gladly I grant your wishes but first, one word of warning. That sword you spoke of it will avail nothing with Grendel, whose life is proof against all weapons whatsoever, wrought by man. You must go for him with your hands, your bare hands (Page 6). Hrothgar demonstrates experience to Beowulf in this quote by telling him Grendel can t get hurt by a sword. If it were not for Hrothgar, Beowulf would have gone to fight Grendel with a sword and probably would have gotten killed. • 14. The Importance Of Minority Rights In America America is the number 1 nation in the world! is a common phrase we hear time and time again. American citizens, in my opinion, have a distorted view on how awesome our country is. America was founded on the idea of freedom at least freedom for white men at the time. While we have grown and made bounds for the rights of minorities like African Americans, Hispanics and women; there is still room to grow. So many of our citizens feel disenfranchised by our government and that our implemented democracy doesn t grant them the same rights as others. This is usually a feeling felt by those in minority groups. Many in the majority don t realize that there are these discrepancies in our democracy because it s not something that affects them. That is one of the obstacles, many turn a blind eye to the injustices they see within our democracy because they do not want to get involved or they want the status quo to stay intact. The majority s desire to stay on top in our country is a huge influence in how those in the minority then view their abilities. Many minority members feel hopeless and that despite speaking up a power shift to equality will never be attainable. There is a profound lack of representation of minority groups in offices of power. As discussed in this class, there have only even been eight African American US Senators, and only two currently in the Senate now. The Power Of Delaying Gratification Analysis Alex Lickerman, author of the article The Power of Delaying Gratification , discuss about the experiment psychologist Walter Mischel did on the kids to understand their self control. Basically, he give a group of children a cookie and he give them to option either they could eat the cookie immediately or they can wait until he come back however if they wait for him to back they will receive another cookie. Based on his experiment he conclude that the kid who resist to eat cookie and wait for him to gain another cookie they will do better in the school than the kids who did not resist. For instances, they will get higher sat scores than who eat the cookie immediately. Likewise, I attempt to do the same experiment instead of using cookie I use candy because teenager loves candy therefore it will be difficult for them to refuse candy. So, I try to do the experiment on students who are in regular classes and they need special helps from the teacher. Based on the results, I realize only freshman and sophomore find it difficult to candy seniors are also found difficult to resist candy. This interacts with Walter ideology because I did experiment students who are in regular classes and Walton states that kids who resist to eat candy straightway will do better in the school. Therefore, the students I did experiment they find difficult to resist the candy so they are in regular class. The possible negative effects on top of preexisting concerns about the safety of the elderly driving only adds to the seriousness of the situation. Driving under the influence is illegal because it is not safe, and Cox, Fonder Frederick, Kovatchev, Julian, and Clarke s study (2000), Progressive Hypoglycemia s Impact on Driving Simulation Performance, proves there to be potential serious harm because of impairment. The researchers hypothesized that low blood sugar, also called hypoglycemia, could impair one s driving ability. The study consisted of 37 adults with type 1 diabetes. All participants have had diabetes for a minimum of two years, have taken insulin, are current drivers, and not be taking any medications that influence hypoglycemia or driving factors. There were 16 men and 21 women. On average, the participants have had diabetes for 17.5 ± 10 years. There were three general issues investigated. First, was the blood glucose levels where driving impairment was first observed. Second, the blood glucose levels at which the person detects impairments and whether or not they take corrective action by pulling over or drinking soda. The place becomes increasingly familiar to me the green sign for Jesus In the Hills Camp, the brown sign for Leo Petroglyph, friends and relative s homes and as I navigate the slopes and curves that lead me back to my childhood home in Jackson, a pleasant nostalgia begins to take some of the tension out of the muscles around my neck and shoulders. After a decade of twisting and contorting myself into an unsuitable life in Christian ministry, I began to write and my attention turned back to my home, to that familiar landscape. I found the beauty in the cultural distinctiveness once taken for granted, even held in contempt. I had been fed, clothed and educated by money made from mining coal, and I am the product of a family that valued work and the love of the written word as a conduit for understanding and contextualizing our place in the world. Although I am not a Southern writer, I am drawn to writers from the South because of their distinctive voices and desire never to divorce characters from place. In theory an increased amount of pectin would lead to a higher gel strength because there would be more chains of polysaccharides to link together and form a gel. The use of .46% pectin was used as a control to test other factors, so it is expected that there would be a variety of gel strengths for that specific concentration. Concept And Measurement Of Poverty 2.0: Introduction: This part reviews some of the available literature on concepts, theories and previous research findings pertaining to the research problem so as to establish the theoretical and empirical base of the study. Literature review is used by the researcher to bring the reader update with current literature on a topic and forms the base for another goal, such as future research that may be needed in the area. It is also used to provide solid background information under the study. The literature reviews aims at finding the gap between what other authors have explained theoretically and empirically and what has not been explained. The knowledge gap needs to be established and fitted by the researcher. 2.1: Concept and Measurement of poverty 2.1.1: Definition of poverty Poverty of an individual or household is defined as a state of having an income or consumption expenditure which is below a certain level/standard known as the poverty line (Bigsten ; Abebe, 2003). Townsend (1985) defined poverty as not only a failure to meet minimum nutrition levels but also as a failure to keep with a standard of living prevailing in the society. Thus according to Townsend a household is considered as being poor if and only if its standard of living is below that of the society. Poverty on the other hand can be observed as the condition of a household being unable to meet basic needs including food, shelter, education etc. (World Bank, 1996). Growing up, whenever I read origin stories or myths, they seemed extremely unrealistic and I always questioned whether they were actually true or just make belief. As I became older, I began to develop a better understanding of things, and when I reread those stories, I realized that there was a much bigger picture behind every story. Origin stories are essentially traditional tales, usually ones that concern the early history of people, or that explain some natural or social phenomenon. A lot of the time origin stories have animals or objects depicting humans, or have some sort supernatural activities going on which makes the stories seem unrealistic, but behind all of that I was always able to find some sort of message or explanation that proved to be very useful. Some origin stories would explain how our ancestors came to be, others would include a moral but most importantly, every story was like a window, a window that allowed us to get a better comprehension of our past. A big question that is always being asked is Should origin stories be encouraged to people ? My answer is yes. Yes we should encourage origin stories because they teach us valuable life lessons, solidify and shape our cultures, and give us a deeper understanding of our past. A growing group of Americans do not believe in God or any organized faith. In fact, unbelief is even fashionable. Religious conviction is perceived as burdensome or an outdated attitude easily discarded. This is the backdrop upon which 20th century American, Southern Gothic writer, Flannery O Connor, wrote her books and short stories in the 1950s and 1960s. She wrote about unbelievers, lukewarm souls, narcissists and the spiritually illiterate. She wrote about racists, white trash, busy bodies and poor, beaten down black folks. She wrote about the unraveling of faith where the default mode for her characters was apathy, smugness, desapir or indifference. • 25. The Controversy Over Creationism And Evolution Introduction The controversy over Creationism and Evolution is a widely debated topic, especially when it comes to what is being taught in the biology classrooms in public schools today. It may be hard to imagine, but just over 100 years ago the curriculum and beliefs would have looked dramatically different. One central court case that created a spark of bringing evolution to public schools was the infamous Scopes trial of 1925 in which science teacher John Scopes challenged Tennessee state law and taught evolution in his high school science class. Tennessee state legislature had passed a bill, known as the Butler Act just months before, banning the teaching of evolution. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) represented Scopes after his arrest in a case that riveted public attention. Although at trial Scopes was ultimately found guilty, the Butler Act was no longer enforced and laws prohibiting evolution being taught in the classroom continually were defeated over the course of the next two years. In 1968, the ACLU went to the Supreme Court on behalf of Susan Epperson to fight against the ban on teaching evolution in Arkansas. The Supreme Court ruled unanimously that the ban as unconstitutional as the First Amendment under the Establishment clause does not allow teachings to tailor to certain religions ( State of Tennessee V. Scopes, n.d.). For this project, we ll take a deeper look at this controversy. With evolution being the commonly accepted theory among ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The second tenant conveys that the author presents life exactly as it is in reality. Some writers may omit insignificant details that slow the flow of a passage down. For most of the times, we feel a sense of patriotism when the tune rises. Usually, our society confirms that the lyrics of the national anthem promote a sense of praise to our nation. This makes people rarely examine what other messages our national anthem wants to pass to us. However, Jimi Hendrix, the renowned rock guitarist from the late 1960s, interpreted our national anthem in a very different perspective. The Importance Of Ethical Dilemmas In Nursing Becoming a nurse includes responsibilities ranging from safe patient care to handling laws and ethical dilemmas that can happen within that patient care. One thing that falls under these responsibilities for a nurse is the mandatory reporting law. Nurses are mandated to report any suspicion of abuse following facility policy (Henry, et al., 2016). This includes clients ranging from children to vulnerable persons, such as older and dependent adults. The time frame for reporting abuse is within 30 days of the occurrence. Diagnoses of communicable diseases are also mandated to report to the appropriate agencies, such as local and state health departments. The diseases that are reported vary for each state (Data Collection and Reporting, 2017). The reporting needs to be done by the health care provider within 30 days. The health departments have many tasks to ensure after reports of communicable diseases. A correct treatment plan needs to be in place. Identifying the source of outbreaks and monitoring for epidemic precautions are also things to be done after this type of report. Nurses face many ethical dilemmas throughout their career as well. Ethical practice is an important concept in nursing, based on what is considered right or wrong. This is making a choice between two options that are equally unfavorable.
