The Lovely Bones Essay On Grief The Lovely Bones Essay On Grief
A World Without Work By Derek Thompson
Every day, human beings work. To work is to be engaged in physical or mental activity in order
to achieve a purpose or result. (New Oxford American Dictionary) Thus, some people work by
holding full time jobs where they perform a task in order to get payed, while others exert their
energy crafting or caring for others, and yet others devote themselves to learning. Because work is
such an integral part of the American culture, it is hard to imagine life without it. However, this is
exactly what Derek Thompson does in the article, A World Without Work. In this piece, Thompson
explores what might happen if human work is replaced by technology. This essay challenges
modern society s view that the sole purpose of work is to earn money and boost self esteem,
instead asserting that it also plays an important role in holding together a community. Therefore,
Thompson argues, the removal of it would have many negative impacts on American society. While
A World Without Work does make some strong points about the harms of the end of work
, the
author fails to fully persuade the audience because he does not clearly define his key terms or
provide concrete evidenceto support either his main point or his proposed solution to the problem.
In A World Without Work, Derek Thompson argues that in the near future, technology will remove
the need for the American workforce, thus causing a major problem in our social dynamic and
necessitating governmentintervention. At the beginning of

Pillow For Neck Pain
There are quite a few things that can cause neck pain. This is something that happens to everyone
once in a while, and it is usually either accidental injury or improper posture while doing certain
activities. Neck pain can ruin your whole day, especially if you can not move your head in any
direction without feeling a lot of pain. When you have pain your your neck or even your upper
back, most of the time it is a muscle problem and it will resolve within a few days with the right
tools. One of those tools should be a pillow for neck pain.
If you have recurring problems with neck pain, you may want to have it checked out. There could
be a problem with your upper spine. On the other hand, if you just have pain once in a while and
you can pinpoint from where it came, it is usually something that you can clear up on your own
with ice, heat, and rest. A pillow for neck pain can greatly help you sleep through the... Show more

This often happens from improper posture or tilt of the head while sitting at a computer or because
you may have slept with your head at an odd angle the night before. The ice helps with
inflammation that usually comes with this type of neck pain. Alternate ice with heat to soothe the
inflammation and then the pain. You can also take something like Advil or the generic equivalent
to help with the inflammation as well. At night, you want to make sure you have a pillow for neck
pain on which to sleep.
A good pillow for neck pain is one that is more firm than other pillows and that helps your neck
and head stay in the same position. The best one would be one that keeps your spine in a straight
line so that you are not stressing the muscles any more than they have already been strained.
There are some great memory foam pillows that work great for neck pain. Look for ones
specifically make for that purpose. You can also try the buckwheat pillow, which offers the same

Analysis Of As I Lay Dying
People are motivated and mostly driven by fears, desires, needs, wants and many times, conflicts
of which they are completely unaware. In the story, by William Faulkner, As I lay Dying, the
Bundren family suffers the loss of Addie Bundren a beloved wife and mother. In honoring Addie s
last wish, the Bundrens make the trip to Jefferson to bury her with her relatives. During the trip
every thing that could go wrong does. This story is told from plentiful points of view and reveals
the completely unstable psychological state of the Bundren family. Through a psychoanalytical
approach of William Faulkners As I Lay Dying, readers will see that Faulkner uses characterization
to demonstrate the instability of the Bundren family.

His second try to enlist in the military, Faulkner was accepted into the British army, however he
never saw combat even though he made people around him believe that he had. Coming back
from the war, Faulkner also decided to go back to school; even after dropping out several times
before. Short lived, Faulkner dropped out for the last time ( William Faulkner , 3). He picked up
several odd jobs and began to binge drink and had many stays at Wright s Sanatarium, a nursing
home facility in Byhalia, Mississippi ( William Faulkner , 8). Throughout these times of turmoil
in his life, he maintained writing. In December of nineteen fifty (Faulkner was about 53) he was
awarded the Nobel Prize for literature of the year in nineteen forty nine ( William Faulkner 13).
On December 10, he delivered his acceptance speech to the academy in a voice so low and rapid
that few could make out what he was saying, but when his words were published in the
newspaper the following day, it was recognized for its brilliance; in later years, Faulkner s speech
would be lauded as the best speech ever given at a Nobel ceremony ( William Faulkner 13). As the
years passed, Faulkner s life and psychological state increased, allowing him to expand his
knowledge. Meanwhile, however, Faulkner s internal struggle continued, ironically similar to the
Bundren family.
The young mind is a wonderful thing, however the concept of losing someone so dearly loved and
cherished can be difficult to understand;

Optical Character Recognition Is Becoming Popular Areas Of...
Project Title:OPTICAL CHARACTER RECOGNITION USING ARTIFICIAL
NEURAL NETWORKS
Abstract: The Optical Character Recognition (OCR) is becoming popular areas of
research under pattern recognition and smart device applications. It requires the intelligence
like human brain to recognize the various handwritten characters. Artificial Neural Network
(ANN) is used together the information required to recognize the characters adaptively. This
paper presents a performance analysis of character recognition by Scale Invariant Feature
(SIF) matrix with a Back Propagation Neural network (BPN). A GUI based OCR system is
developed using Mat lab. The results are shown for the English alphabets and numeric. This
is observed that the perceptron network converges faster, whereas the BPN can handle the
complex script recognition when the training set is enriched.
Keywords:
Character recognition, back propagation neural network, scale invariant feature
Introduction:
Automatic character recognition is a well accepted area of research under pattern recognition.
In handwritten character recognition, characters are written by different individuals that vary
drastically from person to person due to variation in the writing style, its size and orientation
of characters. This makes the system difficult to recognize the characters. Artificial Neural
Network (ANN) helps to solve the problem of identifying handwritten characters in an
automated manner. ANN is an adaptive

Is Guantanamo Wrong
Is it ever acceptable to torture a man to the point of inflicting suicidal thoughts and actions on him?
This instance commonly takes place at the Guantanamo Bay detention camp, or GTMO ( Gitmo ).
Only 6 of the 166 current detainees have been formally charged, which leaves the possibility that
over 96% of the prisoners there are innocent. In fact, more men have died at Guantanamo than have
ever been convicted. GTMO s existence is a controversial topic because of the treatment of
detainees, various Supreme Court rulings, and the lasting impact on people who are lucky enough
to be released. The only way to ensure that guiltless people are not both physically and mentally
traumatized at Guantanamo Bay is to cease its unconstitutional and inhumane... Show more content

The Supreme Court ruled that if someone is detained by the American government, then they are
entitled to basic constitutional rights, which does not allow the detainment of a person before
bringing them before a court or a judge. Since this injustice is taking place in Guantanamo,
innocent men are being placed there. Everyone being taken to GTMO is also protected from cruel
and unusual punishment regardless of what they have been accused of. Therefore, the CIA s use
of various torture methods and brutal interrogations are not acceptable by law. Lakhdar
Boumediene was one of many men who were taken away from their family and punished for a
crime they did not commit. He will forever be affected by the seven years of mental and physical

Human Experimentation Persuasive Essay
Hi, I m Katie snow and I will be supporting why human experimentation is ethical. I d like to start
off saying that society often forgets the contribution human experimentation has had in vaccines,
medical treatment, psychiatry, and the military. For example Although Cancer has been incurable
since the day of its diagnosis recent studies and acts of human experimentation we have
discovered a breakthrough! In 2011 a little girl diagnosed with Cancer named Emily was given the
opportunity to be one of the first patients to volunteer for human experimentation were doctors
inject genetically modified HIV cells (T cells) into the bloodstream of the child. Within weeks of
Emily s trial her cancer started going away and eventually was cured! The example given is just one
of many representations of how human experimentation is changing the world today answering
questions and problems we only dreamed of solving in the future. Saddening enough these... Show

Although experiments in the past where inhumane and practiced unsupervised by a higher power,
we do not practice human experimentation the same way other countries have in the past. The
world is changing we do not live in any other time period but today in the present. We are
educated civilized people with laws and governments! Others may argue that human
experimentation in the past has been taken too far. For example in the early 1900s specifically
1930s the holocaust began. The holocaust as we all know was a devastating, heartbreaking, and
cold time, but we also must remind ourselves that yet it was a sad and devastating piece of history
it also was a breakthrough in science. During the time of the holocaust many Jews where
experimented on and killed. Yet again this is horrifying but this has also given us a huge gigantic
expansion of knowledge about the human body that still contributes to science

What Is The Theme Of Americah
In Americanah, by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, the story is vastly shaped by the tone of how
she wrote it. Constantly switching back and forth between perspectives and time periods, the
story is not linear. The conclusion of Americanah is interesting because, unlike the rest of the
book, it IS linear. It is the finality of the whole story that the reader sees. The tone of the
conclusion of Americanah provides closure to Ifemelu s and Obinze s characters by giving them
the possibility of a relationship and offers closure to the theme of Ifemelu s search for home.
The beginning and ending of the book have parallels; just like in the beginning of the book, the
ending of the book is with filled descriptions of Ifemelu s surroundings. Obinze acts as a bookend
to the portion of life that the reader is exposed to. Ifemelu reached back to her past (586) and found

realistic happy because there are still complications. Not everything is resolved and there is
room for more. The ending was satisfying because, despite it not being perfect, the reader was
given what they wanted, Obinze s and Ifemelu s relationship. Although it is suggested that
Ifemelu and Obinze have a relationship, it isn t specified or in detail. Ifemelu follows her heart

Using Journals Effectively in Classrooms Essay
Using Journals Effectively in Classrooms
Journal writing seems to be a popular element teachers use to give students the opportunity to
become involved in the classroom without always speaking. However, is journal writing a
beneficial tool for student learning? How can it become more effective in the classroom? There are
many types of journals which can be used in a classroom. I have decided to look at the different
types of journals that exist to gain a broad overview of journal usage. This is to help me decide
what the most effective journal for this classroom would be.
First, let us look at what journal writing is. Journal writing is a method to provide students with an
alternate way of expression. It promotes individual ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Journals are also a way for students to express ideas without feeling pressure to respond in a certain
manner in order to receive a good grade.
Along with the freedom to express thoughts and concerns, a journal also can provide the
freedom in which you express these thoughts and concerns. Journals are considered an artist s
notebook. Journal entries are normally done by using words, however there is a move to allow
students to use photographs, drawings, paintings, or any creative way the student may choose to
express themselves. According to Teaching Writing written by Gail Tompkins, the purpose of
journal writing is for students to use journals to 1) record personal experiences, 2) explore
reactions and interpretations, and 3) record and analyze information. These criteria or aspects can
be applied to any and all disciplines. I think that the most important place to include journal
wrtiting is in the English classroom. This is where writing begins to take shape. Since it such a
vital aspect of everyday life, students should feel comfortable expressing themselves and should
have the means to do so. Journals allow students the opportunity to visual express themselves and
to see their ideas on paper giving

The Madonna Or Virgin Mary
The Madonna or Virgin Mary was a popular theme for many Middle Age and Renaissance period
artists. I will be writing with a view of exploring the following pieces. The first is Madonna
Enthroned with Angels and Prophets. [Fig 1] This work was by a prominent artist named Cimabue,
or Cenni di Pepo, and was created in Florence, Italy. It is believed to have been done in the Middle
Agesfrom 1280 1290 A.D. and the medium is tempura on wood. At dimensions of 12 7 X 7 4 it
is quite large and is currently on display in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, Italy. As is implied by
its title, the subject matter of this piece is the Virgin Mary and Christ. The second work is The
Madonna of the Pinks [Fig 2] by Raphael. Raphael was also a prominent artist of his time, and
has often been compared to Leonardo and Michelangelo. This work of oil paint on yew, or
fruitwood, was created during the High Renaissance circa 1506 7 A.D. Also created in Florence,
Italy, it is a small work, measuring just 27.9 cm X 22.4cm, currently housed as The National
Gallery in London. The subject matter of this piece is also that of the Virgin Mary and Christ.
Both of these works are excellent examples of why their artists are considered among the greatest
of their respective time periods.
Madonna Enthroned with Angels and Prophets is a Byzantine style and reflects this in its highly
stylized form of depicting the characters. The figure of The Madonna especially holds to this style
in its elongated,

Lev Vygotsky s Social Development Theory And Zone Of...
Each classroom is composed of a unique and diverse group of learners that have different abilities
in the way they learn. Models of learning and various theoretical frameworks provide a blueprint to
help teachers understand different theories across disciplines. Knowledge is everywhere and
providing children with the proper tools on how to learn is essential in education. I believe that if I
create a learning environment that allows children to grow socially, emotionally, intellectually, and
physically it will allow students a path to help meet their full potential as an individual. A few of
the theoretical frameworks and theorists I have found most useful in my teaching experience and
that have helped me developed my philosophy include Lev Vygotsky, John Dewey and Howard
Gardner. To better develop students literacy knowledge and improve their usage of academic
language, I will utilize Lev Vygotsky s Social Development Theory and Zone of Proximal
Development(ZPD) to support the instructional design in my lessons in the classroom. Vygotsky s
ZPD suggests that children benefit from having addition support or scaffolding from a More
Knowledgeable Other (MKO). According to Vygotsky the teacher s role of providing support and
guidance will allow the student to achieve with assistance that he or she might not have reached
independently. According to the Encyclopedia of Cognitive Science it states, Vygotsky argued that
educative environments must utilize the ZPD, providing

The Influence Of John Dewey In American Schools
Many people have been critical about the American education system throughout the county s
history. John Dewey was an extremely influential thinker on the topic of education during the 20th
Century. He argued that education should be made up of social and interactive processes, and the
school itself is a social place, where social reform can and should take place. He believed that
students do well in an environment where there are experiences and interaction with the curriculum.
He also believed that every student should have the opportunity to take part in their own learning.
His views can be seen in our own educationsystem today. With the vast opportunities, boundless
electives, and the curriculum, schools today are preparing students for John Dewey s vision which
influences students to become educated citizens.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Demise Of The Qing Dynasty
Many people argued that Empress Dowager Cixi accelerated the speed of the demise of the Qing
dynasty. Cixi might be a blasting fuse but she was not accounted for the final fall of the dynasty.
The actions Cixi took had profoundly changed the foundation of feudal China so as to push China
forward into a modern stage. Although many historical data suggested that whatever Cixi had done
were to consolidate her authority and personal status. But no matter what, the impact on the
country was obvious. Cixi broke the previous traditions from Confucianism that had been lasted
for centuries. Tensions between the Manchus and Han Chinese had been greatly improved, which
made a great contribution to China for later unification. Under the reign of the Empress Dowager,
the social structure had undergone a series of changes. Qing s demise is doomed, this was
resulted from issues that had stacked up from previous generations. Moreover, Cixi did her best to
secure China s status in the world in such a chaotic period in history. She made undeniable
contributions to China. Confucianism is a traditional ideology that has already penetrated into
every Chinese head. Its main principle is to follow the past, changes and new technologies or new
objects are not necessary. Whatever happened in the past are the best standards to follow. The way
that Qing government responded after being defeated in the Opium War was shocking from current
perspective. China accepted all the unfair treaties to cover the

In enjoyment reading, the sole purpose of the book is to entertain the reader. In a literary merit,
the book may have a number of purposes. It may entertain, give a message or suggestion about

read and are appealing to a wide audience. However, these books are read by a majority of people
only one time through because they have a simple message that is easy to understand. On the
other hand, literary merit books may not be quite enjoyable in the same way that fun books are,
but they can be enjoyable in the sense that they have a deeper meaning. Many people may read the

George Orwell succeeded in creating a story that gives a very bleak and possible future. Since
the future is unknown, there are a near infinite possibilities for stories, each as possible as the
next. 1984 offers a different kind of look into the future. The majority of books that depict the
future show a hopeful version of the future. Even other dystopian stories give the characters
hope in some way shape or form. 1984 depicts a future with no hope and any hope that is given
is immediately taken away. If you are a man Winston, you are the last man. Your kind is extinct;
we are the inheritors. Do you understand that you are alone? You are outside history, you are
nonexistent. (Orwell 270). O Brien s words in this passage take any hope from Winston that men
might prevail over the Party. This bleak portrayal is Orwell s way of warning that the only way to
stop this future is to prevent it before it happens. For once this future comes to be, there is no
stopping it.

Examples Of Hypocriticism In Huckleberry Finn
Mark Twain was a social critic just as much as he was a novelist. He observed a society filled
with arrogant, racial hypocrisy. In his fictional novel, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Twain
brings criticism to the hypocritical society of his day. Twain argues that society was covered in a
veil of self deception and religious leaders taught hypocritical and absurd religious values. Twain
crafts his writings with characters like; The Widow Douglas, Miss Watson and Silas Phelps; all
well intentioned Christians, but their religion has deceived them into thinking that slavery is

The boycott has cut Negro patronage of city buses about 85 per cent and Negro leaders said it
will continue until bus of the boycott. (San Antonio Register, Vol. 25, No. 44) White people
barely rode on buses because if you re white then that means you are rich at that time, so the
boycott caused the city a lot of money because most people who ride on the buses are African
Americans. African Americans who worked for white people refused to show up for work unless
they paid for their ride.
Police cars and motorcycles followed the buses periodically after an operator reported that two
rifle pellets struck the back of his coach. (San Antonio Register, Vol. 25, No. 44) African
Americans, so they caused more problems for busses. They wanted to get back at the white

Essay On The Restoration Of The New Netherlands
Since the many splits and merges of various religions, it seems that the Jewish people have never
seemed to be accepted in any other religious domain. In this Petition, the Jewish people have been
kicked out of yet another country, Brazil, which was previously under the power of the typically
religious tolerant Dutch. This petition is a way for the Jewish people to contact the Dutch West
India Companyto address the fact that they are making it more difficult for the Jewish people to
travel and live in another country.
During this period multiple things were happening with the British colonies and with Great Britain
itself. Some of these things include the first set of slave codes, the colonization of the Carolinas,
Georgia, and East and West Jersey, but the two that I will be focusing on are the restoration of the
Monarchy and the conquering of the New Netherlands by Great Britain. ... Show more content on

Before this England didn t have a monarchy but instead has a man named Oliver Cromwell
controlling all of England. In the 1660s, which most call the Restoration period, the monarchy
was brought back to the throne by King Charles II. King Charles II changed the way that Great
Britain thought about their colonies. He believed that the future of Great Britain rested in the
colonies hands, so he changed how the way Great Britain dealt with the colonies. First, he
granted allies control of areas of the colonies so that they could settle the area faster and be able
to focus completely on said colony; this was different from the way the colonies were controlled
before because they were Royal colonies, the King had complete control, but now they are called
Proprietary colonies. This establishment of Proprietary colonies leads to the next topic of how

Defining Nosql Database And Its Classification Essay
Introduction
The rapid growth in the world of technology has influenced the way we communicate, shop,
learn, and share information. The development of technology led database analysts and
administrators to find more convenient ways to store the big amount of data. Big data is known
as expression in the tech world. It is defined as a huge collection of data that cannot be managed
by relational databases (Moniruzzaman and Hossain 1). So, developers start to use non
relational databases (NoSQL) to arrange and store the Big data. In order to understand how
developers solve the storing issue of the big amount of data and provide systems that can sync
data between multiple devices, we need to start with a brief background of NoSQL databases to
understand Couchbase system. The purpose of this paper is to define NoSQL database, compare it
with SQL database, define Couchbase and describe how Couchbase is synchronizing data between
multiple devices, especially Couchbase Mobile.
The outline of this paper consists of the following sections. Section 1 introduces NoSQL database
and its classifications. Section 2 gives a brief comparison between NoSQL database and SQL
database. Section 3 explains document oriented databases. Section 4 defines Couchbase. Section 5
describes Couchbase Mobile and provides an example of its use in synchronizing data between
multiple mobile devices.

Essay On Primates
This observational research lab seeks to explore and analyze the differences between primates, both
gorillas and monkeys as well as the shared traits with humans in terms of observed behaviors. More
importantly, emphasis will be made on the contributing differences between primates in relation to
humans. Additionally, the effects of captivity will be studied through its influence of behavior of
both primates. In studying of our closest living relatives, the Primates, I observed the Western
Lowland Gorillaand the Common Squirrel Monkey. I visited the San Francisco Zoo and
systematically recorded observation from both primatespecies. Twenty five observations were

This allows the squirrel monkey to navigate the tree branches that support its light weight. As it
lives in the canopy, it must use its tail for balancing. Gorillas spend most of their time on the
ground and thus have no use for a tail. Additionally, squirrel monkeys use walk quadrupeally on
their palms, while the gorilla uses its knuckles. A gorilla tends to walk on both legs, but is better
suited to walk on all fours. As they are both primates, they also share visible physical traits.
Surprisingly, their dental structure. Gorillas and squirrel monkeys both have canines which are
used for threat gestures. Their molars are better suited to chew insects or vegetarian food that they
might find. Both primates have frontal facing eyes, resulting in a higher reliance on vision rather
than smell. When it comes to studying their behavior, different traits become less apparent. In
observing them in captivity, both primates appeared bored, inactivity or resting was the norm for
the one hour that I observed both species. However, their social structure and heirachy revealed
interesting traits. Squirrel monkeys live in enclosures that house a mixture of males and females.
They spend most of their time foraging for food or resting with their tails in between their legs for
stability. To the untrained eye, it is difficult to distinguish the sex for a squirrel monkey. The lack of

Adversity In John Horace s Treachery
How do we as people discern how individuals have obtained their prowess and talent? Some
would say it is a product of hard labor and dedication. Some would say it is in inherent in certain
lucky beings. However, regardless of how you swing the two sides of this debate it is undeniable
the power of the former. Think of many great heroes, artists, writers, athletes, and overall
successful individuals in general. What do they all have in common? They have all put in the time
and hardship to reach the pinnacle of their abilities. Even in the most dire of circumstances not
pertaining to that of a skill, trade, or art, treachery has made a work of bringing out the most
persistent, enduring, and determined of us as a species. All of this being eloquently... Show more

By soul in this context, I mean the depths of our thoughts and character. No better outlet of
human creativity would this be apparent than that of music. Musicians for undeniably decades
and perhaps centuries have channeled our heartache, and our physical trauma, have managed to
bring such vivid and beautiful works. The examples are endless for which we can draw from.
Whether it be the addiction and grasp of heroin had on the late Layne Staley, the gang violence
and influence of the thug lifestyle s impression on rap artists such as Tupac, or the heartbreak
and loss of companionship such as anyone from Boys to Men, Alkaline Trio, Estelle, Frank
Ocean, and many of the catalog of auditory magicians you hold deep in your tastes. Hurt is a
strong force that resonates with every human being who has experienced it. With it we can see
Horace s perception hold true to a gratuitous degree. We as humans are designed to feel trauma,
pain, loss, and grief on a level deeper than any sentient being in observable existence. It not only
brings out our talents, but our heart as well. A concept only known to us and only our existence.
Horace in his quote, not only made an interesting observation about hardship, but encapsulates our
entire design as human beings. With his one statement, he displayed our one true means of

Role Of Religion In Ancient Egyptian Culture
For starters, how many of us actually realize how different the role of religion varies in each
culture. In Egypt, religion importance is not the same for someone else, for example what may be
a factor in one s culture may not be a factor in another culture that one embrace. Unlike other
cultures beliefs, Egyptian cultures consisted of a list of things, for example medicine, art, laws,
agriculture and more are all tied into their religious beliefs.
Also, Most aspects of Egyptian religion can be traced to the people s observation of the
environment. Fundamental was the love of sunlight, the solar cycle and the comfort brought by the
regular rhythms of nature, and the agricultural cycle surrounding the rise and fall of the Nile.

Each and every god Egyptians worshiped had more than one power in the eyes of the believers as
well as sometimes some gods had a combination of what individual gods already had. It is very
hard to establish the number of gods that were praised by Ancient Egyptians. Also, Gods in ancient
Egypt were always superior to humans, they would live their life like humans. The only
difference between a human and a God was the standing possibility to be able to live again.
Unlike humans, Gods were forever immortal. Also, unlike humans gods came in different forms.
The early gods is the fact that a single deity could be represented in human form, in zoomorphic
form, or in a mixed animal human form. Although the animal forms and therianthropic (i.e., part
human, part animal) forms slightly predate anthropoid manifestations. (Brewer, Teeter, 1).
Ancient Egyptians believed in more than one practice, but it is unlikely that the gods were
derived from totemic animals or that the Egyptians practiced zoolatry (i.e., worship of animals).
Rather, animal forms were probably used to suggest metaphorically something about the
characteristics of the god. (Brewer, Teeter, 1). Some of the things we despise of now wasn t
frowned upon ancient Egyptians religion. For example, The King of the Underworld Osiris
was married to his sister, where he was killed by his brother and brought back to life by his wife
to conceive a son. The son then despised the Uncle and set out his death wish. ( List of 15 Most
Worshiped Ancient Egyptian Gods and Goddesses , 1.) In societies today, being with a member of
your family is very frowned upon and consider unapporiate. Whereas in ancient Egyptian culture the

Personality Stability and Change in Trait Theories of...
The evaluation of personality stability and change across the life span is largely determined by
theoretical beliefs. While some scholars have a more deterministic viewpoint and consider human
personality as fairly predictable and stable over time (e.g. biogenetic determinism), other theorists
view personality as fluid and highly malleable (e.g. behaviorism). The intermediate stance assumes
a bidirectional relationship between heredity and environment, which allows for both consistency
and change in personality. Moreover, some theorists introduce a third element to a biosocial model
the individual (e.g. transactional model of socialization). Evaluation of personality stability is

Don Juan). Allport used an idiographic approach that emphasized uniqueness of individuals,
evaluating categories of values within a person, instead of across groups. This approach reduces
researchers bias as the study is focused on investigation of traits presented in each individual, rather
than a theorized central trait (Burger, 2010). Allport was influential in conceptualizing of
personality, but his trait model is rather philosophical than scientific. Falsification of his hypothesis
and organization of psychological data under his theory is difficult, and, consequently, measurement
of personality stability or change is problematic. Contrary to Allport, personality analysis of
Eysenck was nomothetic in nature, with strong emphases on biological foundations of traits. To
construct and explain personality he used typical for the natural sciences approach that support
generalization. Through statistical evaluation Eysenck established two main bipolar dimensions of
personality, which he called supertraits extraversion/introversion (E) and neuroticism/stability (N).
Later, he added another dimension, psychoticism/superego functioning (P), which maintained less

where neuroticism determines predisposition to anxiety, hysteria, depression, and obsessive
compulsive tendencies. Psychoticism, per Eysenck,

Role of Arbitration and Mediation in the Legal System
Part1: Arbitration and mediation In general, arbitration is a more formal method of alternative
dispute resolution than mediation. Arbitrators generally act similar to a judge and make
decisions about evidence and give written opinions, which can be binding or non binding
(Mediation versus arbitration versus litigation, 2008, Find Law). There may be one or more
arbiters selected by both sides, or a third selected by the mutual arbiter. The methods deployed
are often very similar to that of a court room. In contrast, mediation is generally conducted before
a single mediator who does not judge the case but helps facilitate a discussion and eventual
resolution of the dispute (Mediation versus arbitration versus litigation, 2008, Find Law).
Mediation has a high success rate, but this may be due to the fact that parties which select
mediation tend to be less polarized. Both forms of ADR can be advantageous, given that they
are less costly and also can keep the anger involved to a minimum. A compromise can be reached
that is mutually advantageous to both sides, and alternative solutions can be found that will not
necessarily be allowed in a more formal jury system. Mediation and arbitration can also be
embarked upon more quickly than a lawsuit, which enables the parties involved to engage in
dialogue before conflicts get out of hand. And in some disputes, such as divorce, there are often
many grey areas, with no clear, single person who is in the wrong or right.

In 1977, there was a national poll to ask the public what they would want the national anthem to
be. The results were that 43 per cent preferred Advanced Australia Fair to the 19 per cent who
wanted the original anthem, God save the Queen . This implies that Australia is slowly moving
away from its British ties. However, it is becoming more Americanised. In the seventies,
American branding heavily influenced Australia. There were still classic British brands such as
Lipton and Mini Cooper. However, American foods were becoming increasingly popular. The
appearance of food chains became widespread since it was affordable, convenient and you can
consume it where you want. There were fast food stores such as McDonalds, KFC and Pizza
Hut. There were also popular brands like Coca Cola. American styled food was trending with the
introduction of new snacks and drink and more variety. In addition, American products was
mostly pre packaged and frozen so this meant that they were more time saving to prepare and eat.
The repercussions of this were consumers were able to buy convenient products at low prices.
However, the competition against the big supermarkets forced smaller store to close. With the
increasingly popular Americanised food, it had repercussions on the sport. Although Australians
were great sport fans and spectators, the sport participation decreased. This might be the result of
the unhealthy food chains and pre packaged or frozen foods. This resulted in rising obesity and
heart disease rates. Sport participation was not the only thing that was affect by Americanism.

adopted the American way of sport. Sport events changed to appeal more to the television viewers
and presented more glamorous, showy features like mascots and cheerleaders. The World Series

Applying Mahler s Model Of Separation Individuation Essay
3. Apply Mahler s model of separation individuation to explain the child s behavior.
Mahler s model of separation individuation theorizes that after the first few weeks of infancy, in
which the infant is either sleeping or barely conscious, the infant goes from a phase called normal
symbolic phase, in which it identifies itself as one with its mother within the larger environment
(Margaret Mahler and the Separation Individuation Theory). This then leads to the separation
individuation phase that includes several stages or sub phases that influence the infant to
distinguish itself from its mother, discovers its own identity, will, and individuality. According to
Mahler, the normal symbiotic phase extends from the first signs of conscious awareness at four to
six weeks until about five months of age. In the normal symbiotic phase, the infant is now aware of
its mother, but has no sense of individuality of its own. In the separation individuation phase, the
infant gets out of its autistic shell and slowly begins to connect with its environment and with
people in it. Separation refers to the development of limits and to the differentiation in the infants
mind between the infant and the mother, whereas individuation refers to the development of the
infant s ego, sense of identity, and cognitive abilities (Margaret Mahler and the Separation
Individuation Theory). According to Mahler, the phases listed above are divided into three sub
phases, which occurs in the following:

The Importance Of Foreign Language In Schools
In the nineteenth century, the United States set the precedence for racism. While the problems may
appear consummated, the people of today know that is not totally the case. With the amount of
cultural presence continuously growing, the ubiquity of foreign language should be taken more
seriously. One reason to learn them [foreign languages] is because they are tickets to being able to
participate in the culture of the people who speak them, just by virtue of the fact that it is their
code, begins McWhorter of TED (McWhorter, 2016). Consequently, schools should offer foreign
languageclasses sooner in a child s life than freshman year of high school because this type of
learning introduces them to cultural differences, increases their learning abilities and helps them
understand learning styles of varying levels.
Throughout the years, U.S. citizens have viewed the United States as the dominant country. When
discussing the topic of languages, many are quick to reply with English, and some even fight for
countless hours over the legality of English becoming the universal language. However, while a
large amount of the people in the United States speak American English, the government cannot
calibrate the official language of the United States today (Constitution, 2017). Many people who
speak a second language also learn English, so they can cater to the needs of those in America.
Now, Mandarin Chinese is spoken by more people, but more Chinese people are learning English

The Rationalization Of Global Warming
Rationalization of Global Warming
Global Warming is one of the most recent discussions within the scientific community and
throughout its path towards acceptance scientist in agreeance with the model have to provide
evidence of support for their claim. Kuhn s process of discovery states that normal science is only
thrown into a paradigm shift when a crisis emerges within the paradigm and the discoveries within
the crisis lead to a revolution towards a new normal science. Within the scientific community of
global warming, the discoveries were preceded by observations that are accurately described by
Kuhn s view of scientific revolution.

The only way to begin shift is with the insertion of crisis into the community. Thus realizations that
show the natural powers are not as impregnable to humanity as previously thought has to be the
beginning of the discovery of the realization of global warming.
The discovery of ice ages on earth began the insertion of anomalies within the community. As Weart
exclaimed, it was not the vague possibility of global warming that intrigued the few people who
thought about climate change, but the stupendous advance and retreat of continental ice sheets
(11). By attempting to solve the puzzle of the how and why the ice sheets expanded and retreated
over time scientists stumbled upon anomalies that did not fit within the existing rules of how the
climate operates. Attempts to understand included theories on shifting platonic plate, volcanic
eruptions blocking the sun, the turnover rate of the oceans ability to absorb heat from the sun to the
anthropogenic effects of deforestation. Eventually all lead to test and experiments that still resulted
in the current paradigm thinking. That whatever the forces are that can manipulate the climate have
to be greater than any forces we, as humans, can impart to the environment (Weart).
At this time in the history of the realization of global warming the anomalies produced came from
the sciences relatively close to the subject matter, to include;

It could be argued that none of the characters in Women of Trachis are essentially and solely

qualities of a tragic hero and heroine. All the same, one could justify that the characters could

Who d be such a fool...Love is a sickness. If I get angry at my husband for having caught it, I m

She [Deianira] intends that neither Iole nor Heracles shall be harmed; but she must try
reconquering her husband s love. Deianira states herself that she does not wish to feel bitter
towards her husband; resentment isn t a course for a sensible woman... (Women of Trachis

that Her beauty s ruined her life (Women of Trachis l.465). Deianira finds Heracles Eros towards
Iole devastating and difficult to take due to her own inner physiology and vulnerability. In her
desperate situation and need for security Deianira, in a state of panic, decides to revert to magic,

is born out of weakness, naivety and an innocent belief in Nessus gift. All she wishes is good will,

Geysers Spout Research Paper
Carbon Dioxide Could Explain How Geysers Spout Scientists have been researching the
background of geysers for about hundred fifty years, and now they were able to find a clue that
could aid them in getting closer to their answer. The findings of their discovery was printed in
the Geology paper online on March 7. Finding a geyser on this planet is arduous and most of the
geysers that we have found are located in Yellowstone National Park. Yellowstone National Park is
comprised of about 500 geysers, the largest amount from any other location, and sits atop of a
primitive volcanic hot spot. The spot once erupted magma, a substance similar to lava. Old Faithful
is a geyser in the national park that erupts frequently. Due to this, scientists decided... Show more

First, it will help us understand geysers better, which can lead to more individuals finding more
of these rare structures. If humans are able to find more geysers, especially non acidic ones,
researchers and scientists will be able to perform more experiments. If they conduct more
experiments on questions and hypotheses the world will be able to make gain more knowledge
on them. This discovery is large for scientists have been researching and doing experiments for
150 years, and they were able to find something now. Maybe, now with enhanced technology,
researchers and scientists will be able to find different of more resources that can be beneficial
to environment in the geysers. Depending of the resource, there might be a large impact. For
example, if they learn that there is gold in the geysers, construction in order to take it out. The
gold will sell for lots of money, in which people can earn their way up to wealth. The discovery
of CO2 involved in the action of the geysers spouting can help save people. In September of 2014,
in Japan, there was a steam eruption causing a nearby volcano erupt. The sudden explosion took
the lives of fifty seven people. Understanding that CO2 can cause eruptions, people can monitor
the gas levels from underground, can give a warning. A negative implication on this article is the
amount of money that will be spent in order to conduct more experiments. They would need
money for the materials that will be used, such as chemicals and such, and the money to go visit a
place in which the experiment will be done at. However, if the money is payed off, we will get a
better understanding of geysers work. If humans get a better understanding of geysers, we can use
that knowledge for other similar structures. Then, if we find something new about them, we can
make more predictions and interpretations. During the discovery of new things, we will also

A new chain could provide McDonalds with some competition, but with McDonalds place in the
market we believe the chances of that occurring are low. Supplier power will remain the same
(1.5) as new suppliers and cheaper methods of supply are likely over the next few years. The
buyer power will also remain low (1.5) as we do not foresee any changes in McDonalds already
cheap prices. We do believe the threat of substitutes will rise (4.5). There is heavy pressure on
healthy foods and we only believe that will rise. Healthy options will be advertised more and
people will continue to push healthier eating. The rivalry of the industry will remain high (4.5).
This will rise as the threat of new companies and new companies trying to be healthier than the
competition. McDonalds is everywhere, and will remain so over the next few years, pushing its
overall advantages even higher. The ROIC is used to assess McDonalds efficiency at allocating
the capital under their control to profitable investments. Additionally we can examine the ROIC
to see how McDonalds is doing compared to the industry. Over the companies past fiscal year,
McDonalds had an ROIC of 21.49% and a WACC of 6.51%. We can compare this to the industry
average ROIC of 22.59% and the industry average WACC of 7.49%. In briefly comparing both

The Issue Of Genetically Modified Organisms Essay
Genetically Modified Organisms, also known as GMOs, is one of the major issues arising in
our economy today. GMOs are distinctive organisms in which the genetic material has been
altered to improve productivity and the quality of the product. Genetically modified organisms
have prominent concerns over their apparent beneficial ways in that they re resistant to disease,
help the epidemic of famine, and improve the nutritional value of foods. Having certain foods in
your everyday diet is very substantial in humans to be healthy, and to have the quality of life we
deserve. It s no secret in how GMOs have affected our products worldly. In order to bring this
epidemic to a halt we fist have to come to an understanding on how dangerous these organisms
can be. Genetically altered crops can lead to serious destruction of not only our environment, but
also contaminate our organic crops. Also major companies who work with GMOs intend to
monopolize market foods. To prevent these Genetically Modified organisms, it should be labeled
on their products, and so then people can be aware of the danger that comes with these products.
To understand genetically modified organisms, you first have to understand how they are made.
This helps you realize why they are so harmful to your body. These organisms are modified by
using bacteria and viruses. With known information like this, scientific studies have a fear of the
emergence of new diseases. Some GMO foods contain

Use Of Irony In Don Quixote
Miguel de Cervantes novel, Don Quixote, is a touchstone for criticism on narrative fiction that
reorients criticism towards an emphasis on the formal over the thematic and the playful over the
solemn. A majority of the irony shown throughout this work is portrayed through one of the main
characters, Don Quixote, whom is an old gentleman that attempts to put his fantasy ideas into
action in a prosy world that makes even the meanest intelligence crack a smile. But, as the reader
further analyzes the meaning of the text, it makes he or she question his or her own frivolity. The
reader begins to sympathize with Don Quixote because insanity prevents him from seeing his
reality as fake and inappropriate opposed to actual social needs. Irony in Don... Show more content

This viewpoint depends on whether the reader is willing to take the good or bad side of Don
Quixote s crazy; it depends on whether the reader considers that Don Quixote has the correct
moral values with madness. An example of the theme of honor that can be portrayed in an ironic
way is when the narrator talks about Don Quixote fighting the windmills, saying, So saying, and
commending himself with all his heart to his lady Dulcinea, imploring her to support him in
such a peril, with lance in rest and covered by his buckler, he charged at Rocinante s fullest
gallop and fell upon the first mill that stood in front of him, (I.VIII). This passage portrays Don
Quixote s valiance and determination towards Dulcinea as honorable because he charges at the
windmills with all of his might, but this passage is also ironic because he is investing all of his
honorable valiance and determination on fake giants that are actually windmills. He contains a
vast majority of the valiance it takes to become a knight, but he is applying all of his energy in the

Difference Between Nation And State
Professor Now, we re all familiar, I think, with the United Nations organization, and we re very
accustomed to a world divided into nations but many of you may not realize how recent the idea
of the nation state really is. Most of the history of civilization s been a history of much smaller
units from primitive tribes to Greek city states and later of the much larger units usually called
empires. The concept of a political and cultural nation, as we know it today, didn t appear until near
the end of the 18th century, at the time of the French and American Revolutions. Let s look at a
couple of terms first, just to make them clear. Strictly speaking, a nation is a cultural concept a
group of people in a particular area who are... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So maybe we d better take a more careful look at the factors that seem to contribute to the idea of
nation statehood . First, geography is an obvious factor. Countries like Japan and New Zealand
have very clear boundaries, and their physical isolation makes these nations very homogeneous.
However, geography is often irrelevant Ireland and Cyprus are certainly very strongly divided
islands. And many countries, notably African countries, have boundaries that have nothing to do
with natural features or ethnicity or anything else. They are simply straight lines drawn in the last
century by former colonial powers. Is there a question?
Student Yes! Isn t the language also a determining factor?
Professor Indeed! And then there s language, which is also used as a rationale for nationhood. The
United States and Germany and France are all large, successful states that are defined mostly by
language. But on one hand, many international boundaries cut directly across language lines, as
with Belgium and The Netherlands while on the other hand, countries like South Africa and India
include speakers of many different languages. And a common ethnicity that is, a common genetic
background and a common cultural heritage have certainly helped determine the identity of many
nation states.

Homework Assignment 3
I have read all four articles given in the assignment and familiarized myself with the concept of a
social institution from our textbook. Pay Gap Is Because Of Gender, Not Job is the title of the
article I chose. I identified the social institution in the article as economic .
Economic Institution
There are five common types of social institutions: economic, governmental, family, educational,
religious. They are the principal structures in all societies and relate to general factors of social life
and life overall. The chosen article relates to salary matter of males and females that is a part of the
economic institution.
General information
In the textbook Introduction to sociology stated that in sociology, economy refers to the social
institution through which a society s resources are exchanged and managed. In past years
economies were considered as a trade, i.e. a general exchange when people traded goods with each
other. Clearly, the modern economy is much more diverse and complex than simple transactions in
past yet the aim remains the same: to satisfy human needs and wants we exchange products and
services. (400)
So called Organic solidarity is common for developed countries and based on mutual
interdependence that comes from the specialization of work. It means that people earn money by
doing a specialized job for further trade with other people who are engaged in a specialized job for

Battle Of Gettysburg Analysis
The first day of the Battle of Gettysburg begins from Lee s point of view on page 73. The
confederates are at a disadvantage due to Stuart s delayed return. Without this knowledge, Lee and
his armies have little to no understanding of the Union s whereabouts. Lee and Longstreet are
forced to plan their attack despite the inconvenience. Longstreet suggests defensive war tactics on
page 83, but Lee continuously disagrees. Their opposing opinions begin to create tension between
the two partners. The first battle begins through Buford s perspective. He has been attacked by
confederate infantry which outnumber his own men. He understands that his cavalry has little hope

They discuss their reasoning and Lee apologizes for the misunderstanding. The last chapter in
day 1 follows Buford as he arrives at a Union camp, where he is blamed by Hancock for their first
loss. Day two begins with Fremantle, as he listens to the conversations of fellow soldiers whilst
in a tree. When he is given the chance to talk to the men himself, he questions why no attack has
occurred. Longstreet states that Union forces are secure in their locations, and that Meade would
never attack. He then considers his plan of swinging around the Union, which would force them
to attack. Lee, however, disagrees with this idea, as he does throughout the book. Chamberlain is
brought an injured black slave by companion Kilrain. He had been shot, and knows little english,
but the Union soldiers take kind care of the man. Within the chapter, the reader is given the
opportunity to explore Chamberlin s point of view on slavery. He continues to express his
thoughts to others on the way towards Little Round Top. One of his more powerful comments is
made on page 177, stating, How can they look in the eyes of a man and make a slave of him and

Adolf Hitler Born in the Austrian town of Braunau on April 20, 1889, Adolf was the fourth
child of Alois Schickelgruber and Klara Hitler. By 1900, young Adolf s talents as an artist

Following the war he lived in war torn Germany and attended many political gatherings. The

Through word of mouth, donations poured into the party s coffers, and subsequent mass meetings

assistance of party staff, Hitler drafted a party program consisting of twenty five points. This
platform was presented at a public meeting on February 24, 1920, with over 2,000 eager

the principal targets of his speeches. The Nazi party began drawing thousands of new members,

  • 2. A World Without Work By Derek Thompson Every day, human beings work. To work is to be engaged in physical or mental activity in order to achieve a purpose or result. (New Oxford American Dictionary) Thus, some people work by holding full time jobs where they perform a task in order to get payed, while others exert their energy crafting or caring for others, and yet others devote themselves to learning. Because work is such an integral part of the American culture, it is hard to imagine life without it. However, this is exactly what Derek Thompson does in the article, A World Without Work. In this piece, Thompson explores what might happen if human work is replaced by technology. This essay challenges modern society s view that the sole purpose of work is to earn money and boost self esteem, instead asserting that it also plays an important role in holding together a community. Therefore, Thompson argues, the removal of it would have many negative impacts on American society. While A World Without Work does make some strong points about the harms of the end of work , the author fails to fully persuade the audience because he does not clearly define his key terms or provide concrete evidenceto support either his main point or his proposed solution to the problem. In A World Without Work, Derek Thompson argues that in the near future, technology will remove the need for the American workforce, thus causing a major problem in our social dynamic and necessitating governmentintervention. • 3. Pillow For Neck Pain There are quite a few things that can cause neck pain. This is something that happens to everyone once in a while, and it is usually either accidental injury or improper posture while doing certain activities. Neck pain can ruin your whole day, especially if you can not move your head in any direction without feeling a lot of pain. When you have pain your your neck or even your upper back, most of the time it is a muscle problem and it will resolve within a few days with the right tools. One of those tools should be a pillow for neck pain. If you have recurring problems with neck pain, you may want to have it checked out. There could be a problem with your upper spine. On the other hand, if you just have pain once in a while and you can pinpoint from where it came, it is usually something that you can clear up on your own with ice, heat, and rest. This often happens from improper posture or tilt of the head while sitting at a computer or because you may have slept with your head at an odd angle the night before. The ice helps with inflammation that usually comes with this type of neck pain. Alternate ice with heat to soothe the inflammation and then the pain. You can also take something like Advil or the generic equivalent to help with the inflammation as well. At night, you want to make sure you have a pillow for neck pain on which to sleep. A good pillow for neck pain is one that is more firm than other pillows and that helps your neck and head stay in the same position. The best one would be one that keeps your spine in a straight line so that you are not stressing the muscles any more than they have already been strained. There are some great memory foam pillows that work great for neck pain. Look for ones specifically make for that purpose. You can also try the buckwheat pillow, which offers the same support in a different ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Analysis Of As I Lay Dying People are motivated and mostly driven by fears, desires, needs, wants and many times, conflicts of which they are completely unaware. In the story, by William Faulkner, As I lay Dying, the Bundren family suffers the loss of Addie Bundren a beloved wife and mother. In honoring Addie s last wish, the Bundrens make the trip to Jefferson to bury her with her relatives. During the trip every thing that could go wrong does. This story is told from plentiful points of view and reveals the completely unstable psychological state of the Bundren family. Through a psychoanalytical approach of William Faulkners As I Lay Dying, readers will see that Faulkner uses characterization to demonstrate the instability of the Bundren family. Sigmund Freud ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His second try to enlist in the military, Faulkner was accepted into the British army, however he never saw combat even though he made people around him believe that he had. Coming back from the war, Faulkner also decided to go back to school; even after dropping out several times before. Short lived, Faulkner dropped out for the last time ( William Faulkner , 3). He picked up several odd jobs and began to binge drink and had many stays at Wright s Sanatarium, a nursing home facility in Byhalia, Mississippi ( William Faulkner , 8). Throughout these times of turmoil in his life, he maintained writing. In December of nineteen fifty (Faulkner was about 53) he was awarded the Nobel Prize for literature of the year in nineteen forty nine ( William Faulkner 13). On December 10, he delivered his acceptance speech to the academy in a voice so low and rapid that few could make out what he was saying, but when his words were published in the newspaper the following day, it was recognized for its brilliance; in later years, Faulkner s speech would be lauded as the best speech ever given at a Nobel ceremony ( William Faulkner 13). As the years passed, Faulkner s life and psychological state increased, allowing him to expand his knowledge. Meanwhile, however, Faulkner s internal struggle continued, ironically similar to the Bundren family. The young mind is a wonderful thing, however the concept of losing someone so dearly loved and cherished can be difficult to understand; ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Optical Character Recognition Is Becoming Popular Areas Of... Project Title:OPTICAL CHARACTER RECOGNITION USING ARTIFICIAL NEURAL NETWORKS Abstract: The Optical Character Recognition (OCR) is becoming popular areas of research under pattern recognition and smart device applications. It requires the intelligence like human brain to recognize the various handwritten characters. Artificial Neural Network (ANN) is used together the information required to recognize the characters adaptively. This paper presents a performance analysis of character recognition by Scale Invariant Feature (SIF) matrix with a Back Propagation Neural network (BPN). A GUI based OCR system is developed using Mat lab. The results are shown for the English alphabets and numeric. This is observed that the perceptron network converges faster, whereas the BPN can handle the complex script recognition when the training set is enriched. Keywords: Character recognition, back propagation neural network, scale invariant feature Introduction: Automatic character recognition is a well accepted area of research under pattern recognition. In handwritten character recognition, characters are written by different individuals that vary drastically from person to person due to variation in the writing style, its size and orientation of characters. This makes the system difficult to recognize the characters. Artificial Neural Network (ANN) helps to solve the problem of identifying handwritten characters in an automated manner. ANN is an adaptive

  • 7. Is Guantanamo Wrong Is it ever acceptable to torture a man to the point of inflicting suicidal thoughts and actions on him? This instance commonly takes place at the Guantanamo Bay detention camp, or GTMO ( Gitmo ). Only 6 of the 166 current detainees have been formally charged, which leaves the possibility that over 96% of the prisoners there are innocent. In fact, more men have died at Guantanamo than have ever been convicted. GTMO s existence is a controversial topic because of the treatment of detainees, various Supreme Court rulings, and the lasting impact on people who are lucky enough to be released. The only way to ensure that guiltless people are not both physically and mentally traumatized at Guantanamo Bay is to cease its unconstitutional and inhumane... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Supreme Court ruled that if someone is detained by the American government, then they are entitled to basic constitutional rights, which does not allow the detainment of a person before bringing them before a court or a judge. Everyone being taken to GTMO is also protected from cruel and unusual punishment regardless of what they have been accused of. Therefore, the CIA s use of various torture methods and brutal interrogations are not acceptable by law. • 8. Human Experimentation Persuasive Essay Hi, I m Katie snow and I will be supporting why human experimentation is ethical. I d like to start off saying that society often forgets the contribution human experimentation has had in vaccines, medical treatment, psychiatry, and the military. For example Although Cancer has been incurable since the day of its diagnosis recent studies and acts of human experimentation we have discovered a breakthrough! In 2011 a little girl diagnosed with Cancer named Emily was given the opportunity to be one of the first patients to volunteer for human experimentation were doctors inject genetically modified HIV cells (T cells) into the bloodstream of the child. Within weeks of Emily s trial her cancer started going away and eventually was cured! The example given is just one of many representations of how human experimentation is changing the world today answering questions and problems we only dreamed of solving in the future. Saddening enough these... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The world is changing we do not live in any other time period but today in the present. We are educated civilized people with laws and governments! Others may argue that human experimentation in the past has been taken too far. For example in the early 1900s specifically 1930s the holocaust began. The holocaust as we all know was a devastating, heartbreaking, and cold time, but we also must remind ourselves that yet it was a sad and devastating piece of history it also was a breakthrough in science. During the time of the holocaust many Jews where experimented on and killed. Yet again this is horrifying but this has also given us a huge gigantic expansion of knowledge about the human body that still contributes to science ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. What Is The Theme Of Americah In Americanah, by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, the story is vastly shaped by the tone of how she wrote it. Constantly switching back and forth between perspectives and time periods, the story is not linear. The conclusion of Americanah is interesting because, unlike the rest of the book, it IS linear. It is the finality of the whole story that the reader sees. The tone of the conclusion of Americanah provides closure to Ifemelu s and Obinze s characters by giving them the possibility of a relationship and offers closure to the theme of Ifemelu s search for home. The beginning and ending of the book have parallels; just like in the beginning of the book, the ending of the book is with filled descriptions of Ifemelu s surroundings. The ending was satisfying because, despite it not being perfect, the reader was given what they wanted, Obinze s and Ifemelu s relationship. Although it is suggested that Ifemelu and Obinze have a relationship, it isn t specified or in detail. Ifemelu follows her heart and her heart leads her Obinze and Nigeria. • 10. Using Journals Effectively in Classrooms Essay Using Journals Effectively in Classrooms Journal writing seems to be a popular element teachers use to give students the opportunity to become involved in the classroom without always speaking. However, is journal writing a beneficial tool for student learning? How can it become more effective in the classroom? There are many types of journals which can be used in a classroom. I have decided to look at the different types of journals that exist to gain a broad overview of journal usage. This is to help me decide what the most effective journal for this classroom would be. First, let us look at what journal writing is. Journal writing is a method to provide students with an alternate way of expression. It promotes individual ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Journals are also a way for students to express ideas without feeling pressure to respond in a certain manner in order to receive a good grade. Along with the freedom to express thoughts and concerns, a journal also can provide the freedom in which you express these thoughts and concerns. Journals are considered an artist s notebook. Journal entries are normally done by using words, however there is a move to allow students to use photographs, drawings, paintings, or any creative way the student may choose to express themselves. According to Teaching Writing written by Gail Tompkins, the purpose of journal writing is for students to use journals to 1) record personal experiences, 2) explore reactions and interpretations, and 3) record and analyze information. These criteria or aspects can be applied to any and all disciplines. I think that the most important place to include journal wrtiting is in the English classroom. This is where writing begins to take shape. Since it such a vital aspect of everyday life, students should feel comfortable expressing themselves and should have the means to do so. Journals allow students the opportunity to visual express themselves and to see their ideas on paper giving ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. The Madonna Or Virgin Mary The Madonna or Virgin Mary was a popular theme for many Middle Age and Renaissance period artists. I will be writing with a view of exploring the following pieces. The first is Madonna Enthroned with Angels and Prophets. [Fig 1] This work was by a prominent artist named Cimabue, or Cenni di Pepo, and was created in Florence, Italy. It is believed to have been done in the Middle Agesfrom 1280 1290 A.D. and the medium is tempura on wood. At dimensions of 12 7 X 7 4 it is quite large and is currently on display in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, Italy. As is implied by its title, the subject matter of this piece is the Virgin Mary and Christ. The second work is The Madonna of the Pinks [Fig 2] by Raphael. Raphael was also a prominent artist of his time, and has often been compared to Leonardo and Michelangelo. This work of oil paint on yew, or fruitwood, was created during the High Renaissance circa 1506 7 A.D. Also created in Florence, Italy, it is a small work, measuring just 27.9 cm X 22.4cm, currently housed as The National Gallery in London. The subject matter of this piece is also that of the Virgin Mary and Christ. Both of these works are excellent examples of why their artists are considered among the greatest of their respective time periods. Madonna Enthroned with Angels and Prophets is a Byzantine style and reflects this in its highly stylized form of depicting the characters. The figure of The Madonna especially holds to this style in its elongated, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. Lev Vygotsky s Social Development Theory And Zone Of... Each classroom is composed of a unique and diverse group of learners that have different abilities in the way they learn. Models of learning and various theoretical frameworks provide a blueprint to help teachers understand different theories across disciplines. Knowledge is everywhere and providing children with the proper tools on how to learn is essential in education. I believe that if I create a learning environment that allows children to grow socially, emotionally, intellectually, and physically it will allow students a path to help meet their full potential as an individual. A few of the theoretical frameworks and theorists I have found most useful in my teaching experience and that have helped me developed my philosophy include Lev Vygotsky, John Dewey and Howard Gardner. To better develop students literacy knowledge and improve their usage of academic language, I will utilize Lev Vygotsky s Social Development Theory and Zone of Proximal Development(ZPD) to support the instructional design in my lessons in the classroom. Vygotsky s ZPD suggests that children benefit from having addition support or scaffolding from a More Knowledgeable Other (MKO). According to Vygotsky the teacher s role of providing support and guidance will allow the student to achieve with assistance that he or she might not have reached independently. According to the Encyclopedia of Cognitive Science it states, Vygotsky argued that educative environments must utilize the ZPD, providing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

John Dewey was an extremely influential thinker on the topic of education during the 20th Century. He argued that education should be made up of social and interactive processes, and the school itself is a social place, where social reform can and should take place. He believed that students do well in an environment where there are experiences and interaction with the curriculum. The development of technology led database analysts and administrators to find more convenient ways to store the big amount of data. Big data is known as expression in the tech world. It is defined as a huge collection of data that cannot be managed by relational databases (Moniruzzaman and Hossain 1). Allport used an idiographic approach that emphasized uniqueness of individuals, evaluating categories of values within a person, instead of across groups. This approach reduces researchers bias as the study is focused on investigation of traits presented in each individual, rather than a theorized central trait (Burger, 2010). Allport was influential in conceptualizing of personality, but his trait model is rather philosophical than scientific. Falsification of his hypothesis and organization of psychological data under his theory is difficult, and, consequently, measurement of personality stability or change is problematic. • 34. Role of Arbitration and Mediation in the Legal System Part1: Arbitration and mediation In general, arbitration is a more formal method of alternative dispute resolution than mediation. Arbitrators generally act similar to a judge and make decisions about evidence and give written opinions, which can be binding or non binding (Mediation versus arbitration versus litigation, 2008, Find Law). There may be one or more arbiters selected by both sides, or a third selected by the mutual arbiter. The methods deployed are often very similar to that of a court room. In contrast, mediation is generally conducted before a single mediator who does not judge the case but helps facilitate a discussion and eventual resolution of the dispute (Mediation versus arbitration versus litigation, 2008, Find Law). Mediation has a high success rate, but this may be due to the fact that parties which select mediation tend to be less polarized. Both forms of ADR can be advantageous, given that they are less costly and also can keep the anger involved to a minimum. A compromise can be reached that is mutually advantageous to both sides, and alternative solutions can be found that will not necessarily be allowed in a more formal jury system. Mediation and arbitration can also be embarked upon more quickly than a lawsuit, which enables the parties involved to engage in dialogue before conflicts get out of hand. • 39. Applying Mahler s Model Of Separation Individuation Essay 3. Apply Mahler s model of separation individuation to explain the child s behavior. Mahler s model of separation individuation theorizes that after the first few weeks of infancy, in which the infant is either sleeping or barely conscious, the infant goes from a phase called normal symbolic phase, in which it identifies itself as one with its mother within the larger environment (Margaret Mahler and the Separation Individuation Theory). This then leads to the separation individuation phase that includes several stages or sub phases that influence the infant to distinguish itself from its mother, discovers its own identity, will, and individuality. According to Mahler, the normal symbiotic phase extends from the first signs of conscious awareness at four to six weeks until about five months of age. In the normal symbiotic phase, the infant is now aware of its mother, but has no sense of individuality of its own. In the separation individuation phase, the infant gets out of its autistic shell and slowly begins to connect with its environment and with people in it. Separation refers to the development of limits and to the differentiation in the infants mind between the infant and the mother, whereas individuation refers to the development of the infant s ego, sense of identity, and cognitive abilities (Margaret Mahler and the Separation Individuation Theory). According to Mahler, the phases listed above are divided into three sub phases, which occurs in the following: ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While the problems may appear consummated, the people of today know that is not totally the case. With the amount of cultural presence continuously growing, the ubiquity of foreign language should be taken more seriously. One reason to learn them [foreign languages] is because they are tickets to being able to participate in the culture of the people who speak them, just by virtue of the fact that it is their code, begins McWhorter of TED (McWhorter, 2016). Consequently, schools should offer foreign languageclasses sooner in a child s life than freshman year of high school because this type of learning introduces them to cultural differences, increases their learning abilities and helps them understand learning styles of varying levels. Throughout the years, U.S. citizens have viewed the United States as the dominant country. When discussing the topic of languages, many are quick to reply with English, and some even fight for countless hours over the legality of English becoming the universal language. However, while a large amount of the people in the United States speak American English, the government cannot calibrate the official language of the United States today (Constitution, 2017). Many people who speak a second language also learn English, so they can cater to the needs of those in America. By attempting to solve the puzzle of the how and why the ice sheets expanded and retreated over time scientists stumbled upon anomalies that did not fit within the existing rules of how the climate operates. It could be argued that none of the characters in Women of Trachis are essentially and solely responsible for the death of Sophocles character Heracles. It is simply human error and the innate qualities of a tragic hero and heroine. The concept of a political and cultural nation, as we know it today, didn t appear until near the end of the 18th century, at the time of the French and American Revolutions.
