The Current Standing Of The U.s. Economy
Tracking the U.S Economy
Jessica Findish
Jacksonville University
Executive Summary In this paper, you will read about the current standing of the U.S. economy as of
spring and summer for 2015. Gross Domestic Product (GDP), unemployment rate, inflation rate,
foreign trade, consumer spending, business investment, and government spending will all be analyzed.
This analysis will then lead to the projection of the U.S. economy for the first two quarters of 2016.
U.S. Economy: Spring and Summer 2015
Gross Domestic Product (GDP) The Bureau of Economic Analysis showed output in the U.S.
increasing at a rate of 2.3% for the second quarter of 2015 (Sharf, 2015). This is a 1.7% increase from
the first quarter when real GDP increased 0.6% (Sharf, 2015). Current dollar GDP decreased 0.2
percent, which is the equivalent of $10.4 billion, in the first quarter of 2015 to $17,693.3 billion
(News Release: Gross Domestic Product). The B.E.A. also reports (GDP 2015) that personal
consumption has doubled within the first two quarters of 2015 from 1.8% to 3.6%, suggesting that
consumer income has also increased alongside GDP.
Unemployment Rate
According to the BLS (Labor Force Statistics...), the unemployment rate has decreased in 2015.
According to Graph 1, only May 2015 saw an increase in the unemployment rate of 0.1%, which then
fell by 0.2% by June 2015. From January 2015 to September 2015, the unemployment rate has
decreased by 0.6%. One could argue that employers are afraid to hire

Acculturation In Children
Previous studies showed participants were recruited from a charter school in Houston, Texas, between
2005 and 2009 and have revealed that higher levels of acculturation are related to obesity in
Latino/Hispanic adults. Conflicting findings exist regarding this relationship in children, and little is
known about the impact of acculturation on children s success in pediatric weight management
programs.
The purposes of the study were to (1) examine the relationship between acculturation and
overweight/obese weight status and (2) determine the impact of acculturation on the changes in weight
status among overweight/obese children 12 and 24 months after having participated in a weight
management intervention.
Methods: This is a secondary analysis of aggregated data from three randomized control trials that
occurred between 2005 and 2009. Height, weight, and level of acculturation using the Child Short
Scale for Hispanics ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One, highly acculturated children likely have more influence from US media and literature. As noted
in the current study, 61.8 % of highly acculturated compared to 16.6 % of lowly acculturated children
preferred American (English) media or reading material. Also, 89.2 % of highly acculturated
compared to 59.4 % of lowly acculturated children lived in the USA their entire life, making the
likelihood of American media and literature exposure much higher in the highly acculturated group.
Children and adolescents are especially vulnerable to visual images as well as body image concepts in
the media and have a particularly difficult time distinguishing the difference between what is seen
versus reality and finally, stressful life events such as relocating children are difficult and often
traumatic, leading to challenges in school and behavioral

Why Should We Choose Healthy Embryos Should Be Allowed By...
Weekly Dialogue Questions
Can you think of any advantage(s) for a couple to know the gender of their child while it was still a
fetus in the womb? Can you think of any disadvantage(s) for a couple to know the gender of their
child while it was still a fetus in the womb?
Do you think widespread access to this knowledge would increase the number of elective abortions?
In the article in the Johnson Textbook, a family used gender selection not to choose the gender but to
find an embryo that did not contain the Fanconi anemia disease gene to harvest the umbilical cord
blood to cure their child of this deadly disease. Do you think choosing healthy embryos should be
allowed by families with genetic conditions so they may have children without diseases?
Do you think this practice of embryo selection could lead down a slippery slope of a couple choosing
the specific characteristic they desire in a child? How should these procedures be regulated?
Original Post
Science Technology in this generation has upgraded to another level gender selection. Gender
selection is when two parents can choose if they want to give birth to a boy or a girl. Gender selection
is legal in the United States, and illegal in other countries (ABC News, 2016). It is illegal in other
countries because of people religion or political reasoning. My opinion personally thinks science is

Stephen Glass Essay
[a] Although the film is not explicit on this point, what seems to be driving Stephen Glass? As best as
you can tell, what are his life goals and aspirations? Did he truly know himself, including his own
strengths and weaknesses? I think what made Stephen Glass to fabricate half of his news articles was
his strive to make people around him feel excited in his presence and huger of the glory he was getting
from the fictional stories he was presenting one after another. But since one lie creates another,
eventually it got out of his control and he ended up partially or entirely fabricating 27 out of 41 of his
news articles. Although at the beginning his goals was to be a journalist, later during the movie it
drifted to entertaining the readers rather than providing fact based information. ... Show more content

Why did they ultimately fail? One of the strategy was that he made up things like phone numbers, fake
voicemails, non existent people etc. to cover up his lies. For instant, Glass created a fake website for
Jukt Micronics and in this case it ultimately failed because obviously this wasn t his field of expertise.
Under the pressure, he failed to notice the website he created can only be accessed by the AOL users.
That brought up questions as to why would a large software organization do such thing, has one phone
line for the entire organization and many more question that he failed to provide an answer to Forbes
editor. Another biggest strategy was that he was a master at lying. He lied so well that his co workers
had believed him every time and fed him with laughter and amazement. But he messed up later when
Glass asked his brother to pose as George Sims the executive manager of Jukt Micronics. Editor in
chief Chuck Lane learned from another co worker that Glass s brother lives in Palo Alto and he
realized that he could be the one who answered to his voicemail as George Sims and the lying started

Essay On The Father Figure In Romeo And Juliet
A father figure is someone who is respected for his paternal qualities and may be an emotional
substitute for a father. William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet is a tragic story where a pair of star
cross d lovers take their lives when their feuding families prevent them from being together. When
Romeo and Juliet fall in love, Friar Lawrence plays a pivotal role acting as a father figure which
influences several actions in the play. Friar s role as a father figure in Romeo and Juliet is central to
understanding his support for Romeo s love for Juliet, his advice for Romeo to go to Mantua, and his
guidance for Juliet to fake her death. Friar s acceptance for Romeo s love for Juliet is one way that
Shakespeare portrays his role as a father figure in the play. An example of this can be seen in Act 2,
Scene 3 when Friar reprimands Romeo just as a father would for being out all night and falling in love
with another girl. The Friar states, Young men s love then lies / Not truly in their hearts, but in their
eyes. Friar says this to Romeo when he has fallen in love with a girl named Juliet so soon after being
in love with Rosaline. This proves how Friar acts as a father because he cares for Romeo and his well
being even though he is not his son. He takes the time to understand Romeo s situation and give him
some useful advice on what his next steps should be. Friar s support for Romeo s love is just one way
Shakespeare portrays his fatherly figure in the tragic play of Romeo and Juliet. Secondly, Friar is at
his most fatherly when Romeo has killed Tybalt and is distressed about being banished. The Friar tells
Romeo to go to Mantua and be patient until things have settled down in the town of Verona. After
some time has passed and fixed some issues, Friar tells Romeo that the two lovers can once again be
reunited. He states: But look thou stay not till the watch be set, For then thou canst not pass to Mantua,
Where thou shalt live till we can find a time To blaze your marriage, reconcile your friends, Beg
pardon of the Prince, and call thee back With twenty hundred thousand times more joy Than thou

Defining The Organization s Strategic Direction Essay
Topic 6: Defining the Organization s strategic Direction Definitions: 1. Oligopolistic industries highly
consolidated industries with a few large competitors 2. Exit barriers costs or other commitments that
make it difficult for firms to abandon an industry (large fixed asset investments, emotional
commitment to the industry, etc.) 3. Entry barriers conditions that make it difficult or expensive for
new firms to enter an industry (government regulations, start up costs, etc.) 4. Switching costs factors
that make it difficult or expensive to change suppliers or buyers, such as investments in specialized
assets to work with a particular supplier or buyer. 5. Complements products or services that enhance

considered as competitors, but fulfill a strategically equivalent role for the customer. 7. Stake holder
any entity that has an interest (state) in the organization 8. Tacit Resources resources of an intangible
nature (such as knowledge) that cannot ne readily confided. 9. Socially complex resources resources

Sandy Zimmerman s Young Bullies Grow Up
Sandy Zimmerman s Young Bullies Grow Up (969 words), written as a short story and/or series,
draws attention to the problems young bullies cause in the schools and while interacting with others as
adults.
Sandy s short story addresses bullying as we see through the eyes of Bill Turner, an awkward boy
whose body grew larger and taller than the other seventh graders. When Bill suddenly grabbed his
classmates sandwiches, the boys ran away unintentionally conceding that the power was in Billy s
hands.
Their reaction marked the beginning of bullying in a small way, Bill s intimidation was effective this
time and with each success, he became bolder, until, as an adult, he went too far when meeting a
bigger bully with more power.

Essay on Turn Your Computer Into a Jukebox
Turn your Computer into a Jukebox
Are you the type of person who spends twenty dollars on a CD, just because you like one song, and
the remaining tracks are disappointing? Did you know that you can have your whole CD collection in
your computer s hard drive? Are you tired of listening to the unexciting music played on the radio?
Would you like to be able to make your own CDs? These days it is fairly cheap to have internet access
and a computer that will let you record, store, discover, and download music. In the past, being able to
do this was very expensive and difficult, but when the Mp3 format appeared and Cd recorders became
inexpensive, this revolutionized the way we experience music. All you need is the right software and

The software is free, and it connects you with millions of users who share their songs, and you
virtually can find virtually any song you want . Recently I had my grandmother s birthday, so I figured
out that the perfect gift was to give her a mix CD full of oldies; she couldn t believe how I was able to
record them on disc.
The second step is to download the music from Winmix or extract it from a CD; so you can start
building a collection of music. My father, for example, got tired of loosing and scratching his CDs, so
by extracting the music into his computer, he now has over a thousand
songs stored in his PC. I m a music lover; I enjoy all types of music, from Trance to Classical, and I
can not afford to buy all the CDs I want. The internet and Winmix give me the opportunity to
download only the songs that I like; so I save tons of money and I discover new artists. Another
advantage of this method is that it opens doors for new artists, because masses have instant access to
their music. Critics believe that this is stealing from them, but on the other hand, the internet may
catapult their careers to new levels. I m not going to spend twenty dollars on a one hit wonder album.
But, from my favorite bands like U2 or Dave Mathews Band, I gladly spend my money.
After you have created a nice collection of your favorite tunes, you are ready to make your own CDs

Female Representation Of Women During Star Wars
A very short time ago, in a world very well known, the famous Star Wars movies were brought to
creation. George Lucas originally exposed the original Star Wars in 1977, and it has continued to up to
present day. The ideas Lucas created through these movies helped evolve other films. One of the
things that the prior Star Wars didn t evolve though was female representation in movies. The
representation of women in past Star Wars films compared to the most recent Star Wars film has
substantially evolved in the characterization of females. Through watching all Star Wars films, I can
personally say that there was a dramatic change in how females were perceived in past Star Wars films
compared to Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Princess Leia was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These types of clothing consisted of avoidable tears in shirts and other clothing to show off her toned
mid drift. Females are taken considerably more serious in the more current Star Wars film. In Star
Wars: The Force Awakens, a female character was portrayed as one of the stormtroopers captains.
Captain Phasma, however, was not portrayed like most female characters in past films. Instead of
being depicted as a sexual and dependent character, her script and costume conveyed otherwise.
Captain Phasma wore an outfit similar to an average stormtrooper of any gender that did not sexualize
her character. As well as this, the script used for her character showed little correlation to the
stereotypical female presentation in prior films. It consisted of her characters script corresponding to
how a stormtrooper captain would behave. She was not there to please the audience, or act sexy, but
instead to play a part in the movie. Another representation of this is the female character, Rey. This
character was given the opportunity to develop into who she was, not for the purpose of a man. Rey is
one of the most prominent characters in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Her character spends no time
developing for a man but instead trying to do what is right. Her characters attire, similar to Captain
Phasma, is not based to please the audience, but instead based on the particular situation she was in.
As well as these characters, there was Maz

Taking a Look at Christian Culture
Written Report:
Christianity is the world s largest religion. Two of the five centers are located in Turkey: Istanbul (also
known as Constantinople) and Antakya. Antakya was also a place where the followers of Jesus were
called Christians for the first time in history. The Hagia Sophia church (recognized by Saint Peter) is
one of the oldest surviving churches located right in Anasofya Meydanı, Istanbul. Turkey is also home
to Seven Churches of Asia, where Revelations to John (the final book of the New Evidence) were sent.
Today, Turkey has more than 120,000 Christians, it includes 80,000 Armenian 35,000 Roman
Catholics, 17,000 Assyrian, 4,000 Assyrians of the Chaldean Catholic, 3,000 4,000 Greek Orthodox,
10,000 Antiochian Greeks. There are also 349 active churches.
There are three main groups of Christianity: Catholicism, Orthodoxy and Protestantism. Catholic
churches are controlled by bishops and are close with the Pope. With more than 1.1 billion members,
the Catholic Church is the largest church representing over half of all Christians and one sixth of the
world s population. Eastern Orthodoxy is the second largest single value in Christianity with over 200
million supporters. The total number of Protestants are very undefined because of the difficulty in
defining values should be placed in these categories, but it is clear that Protestantism is the second
largest major group of Christians after Catholicism (although the Orthodox Church is larger than any

Theme Of Holy Water By Joan Didion
Bella DeLeon
Instructor Westmoreland
ENGL 1321 16
September 8, 2017 Holy Water Water is important to people who do not have it, and the same is true to
control, (Didion). The article, Holy Water by Joan Didion draws parallelism to the controlling or lack
of control of water by metaphorically comparing water to life. Analyzing the possibility of how people
are taking water for granted, especially where rainfall is extremely sparse, Didion touches on how
supply and demand of a natural resource is solely dependent on its availability and whether or not it is
immediately needed. Didion s use of tone, appealing to emotions, gathering the audience to develop a
trust, and providing a direct insight into her purpose allows the reader to recognize the importance
water has within the planet.
Didion s slight infatuation with water seems to be based on her own experiences in which she serves
as testimonial evidence. As it happens my own reverence for water has always taken the form of this
constant meditation upon where the water is, of an obsessive interest not in the politics of water but in
the waterworks themselves, in the movement of water through aqueducts and siphons and pumps and
forebays and afterbays and weirs and drains, in plumbing on the grand scale, (Didion). Therefore, her
thesis remains strong and reliable, providing a further understanding to the reason why water should
have importance to the world and to the individual. Additionally, drawing on the possible comparison
that maybe water is a reference to the life of a person can provide an idea that life is just as
uncontrollable when it is not being managed. Her tone exemplifies her certainty into how water
gathers from the world and the neglectful actions can cause hardship to society.
Water is not the same and the brilliance of water will never be from one direct location. The
comparison of water to the life of a person provides an idea that the uncontrollable nature of water
serves as a premise for life. According to the reference text in regard to premises, The joining of two
premises two statements taken to be true to produce a conclusion, a third statement, is a syllogism
(Barnet, Bedau and O Hara). Didion s use of a syllogism allows

Therefore, consumers might visit a retailer to enjoy a mood changing experience, something that will
make them feel good (Hefer Cant, 2013). Visual merchandising is about creating that WOW
experience for consumers as soon as they enter the building. Each display, sign, and store decoration
serves a purpose. And that purpose is to inspire each customer to buy. When creating visual
merchandising ideas, you must think about store spacing. Visual and product merchandising along
with the store layout plays a major role in day to day operations and sales. Retailers design plan o
grams based off maximum sales per square footage. A store floor grid creates paths for customers
which allows the retailer to expose shoppers to many products and visual check points. The world of
visual merchandising started to be used first and introduced as a differentiated strategy by
Bloomingdale Department Store, under the awareness that merchandising alone could not raise sales,
when American department stores were in the economic slump in the 1970 s (Kim, 2013). Since then
visual merchandising is always the first check box when it comes to presenting a brand or brands.
How does visual merchandising work for those companies that fall into unique industries?
Home improvement retailers have always struggle with making tools look visually appealing, but over
the years they have come to realize by incorporating real life housing and office setup within the

Going Back to School as an Adult Essay
I do not believe the universe only knocks once, I believe it starts as a whisper and goes round and
round till you get it. It is usually the quiet or the unexpected moments you hear it best, though still
sometimes you might need several of those moments and a few reminders after that. It was in my most
recent semester at school where I heard how imbalanced I truly was, and if I made it my mission to
live my life in balance, to relax more and trust more, I will be more. I went back to school with the
simple goal of getting my degree and moving ahead in my career. School, education and obtaining my

mentally from the learning. Second, and instantly, I identified my self to the class as an individual

understanding of what an adult learner actually was. I came in to the class knowing I fit the criteria,
but it was not until we read and discussed a few articles on the subject that I learned what that criteria
actually was, and how it was a hinderance. In the article Adult Learning Theory it was brought to my
attention that adults, though ready to learn, come to the class with predetermined bias and
expectations. That while they come with knowledge and understanding, sometimes this is uses to
reject new information instead of build on it (Kenner, C Weinerman, J., 2011). This is exactly how I
came in to the class, assuming I knew things, ready to reject things, and would continue to
unknowingly do so. I could recognize my self and my own learning patterns here, I was always quick
to access what I already knew and easy to reject new ideas that did not fit. My fear with language is
another example of this, I had a self proclaimed language barrier, a preconceived reactionary bias that
I accepted from the knowledge I had built, creating no room to focusing on feedback and
development. It was at

Unlike many violent characters, Albert s aggressiveness is motivated. It is due to sexual and affective
frustration and to the lack of social interaction(s). To put it differently, he attempts to reach through
violence what he failed to achieve through dialogue and conversation: to impose a sense of identity,
virility and authority.
In The Homecoming, however, sex is one of the most instinctual and uncontrollable motivations of
violence. Accordingly, characters go wild and transgress all moral codes to satisfy their sexual
fantasies and appetites. On the one hand, Lenny is proud of the cruel stories he narrates in order to
impress his brother s wife: Ruth. Max, on the other hand, indulges into insulting her at first sight.
Even Ruth joins the game when she verbally owns Lenny: If you take the glass...I ll take you. (The
Homecoming, p.34) To put it another way, characters harbor a sexual desire which they strive to
satisfy. In the universe of the play, there are many sexual games accompanied with violence and
falsehood; yet, the aim is almost the same: to impress or intimidate

Reasons For Motivation
Prompt: The Doctoral Program is interested in your reasons for pursuing doctoral studies. Please
describe them in an essay ranging from 500 700 words. Include the major field area to which you are
applying (Accounting; Decision, Risk and Operations; Finance and Economics; Management; or
Marketing).
My journey pursuing a PhD in finance and economics has hardly been straightforward: Although I
started my undergraduate education as a film major, I quickly came to appreciate the analytical rigor
found within the discipline. While a film major focuses on artistic storytelling, I developed a
preference for the stories you can tell through a study of economics. While both are undoubtedly
creative, my interest pivoted to this education in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My curiosity drives me in the classroom as well. Not only have I demonstrated success by graduating
with both departmental and school wide honors studying economics, but I also supplemented this
education with substantive mathematical coursework through Real Analysis and Differential
Equations. Despite the obvious dichotomy between math and the original film major, I have been most
successful in my math classes, exhibiting a perfect record despite the rigor. However, the real rewards
from these courses are illustrated by my comfort and mastery economic topics that four years ago
would have challenged me.
By maturing as both an academic and researcher, I am now able to tackle more intricate topics and
teach them to others. While at Claremont McKenna College, I wrote an honors economics thesis using
Regression Discontinuity Design to analyze incumbency advantage in State Legislatures around the
United States. Additionally, I taught fellow student both at the beginning of their economic careers as
a recitation lecturer at in a 50 person economics lecture, and at the end, by tutoring seniors in STATA
and Econometrics during their theses. Ultimately, I am interested in the finance and economics
because I am primarily interested in the relationship between an economy and its people. The
advantage of this program against that of a purely traditional economics degree is that it incorporates
the financial sector that pervades through every industry. I learned this first

imagine doing the same thing but in the snow on a board. You have just witnessed the similarities and
differences of mountain bike and snowboards. Snowboards and Mountain Bikes seem very different
but if you look at them closely you can see very many similarities. In this essay I will be showing the
similarities and differences of these extreme downhill sports. Snowboards and Mountain bikes are
both very fun and entertaining sports, they both give you that downhill adrenaline rush that every
extreme sports junkie craves. Now be warned these sports aren t all safe and you ll need all the

The And Other Peoples Of Mexico And Their Home Countries...
Unfortunately for the Zapotecs and other indigenous peoples, migration to the US does not bring an
end to the structural and symbolic violence they must face. Unlike the systemic pressure present in
Mexico and their home countries, Indigenous groups face societal pressures not only from migrant
mestizos but from the dominant Anglo population of the United States. From their mestizo
countrymen, they generally experience a less intense form of the violence from the home country.
Generally, these include shame of public displays of their languages and racial insults. From the Anglo
population, Indigenous groups are often misidentified and grouped within the broader Hispanic
identity, not understanding that they are a different cultural group. To fit a mold that has been pushed
upon them, Indigenous peoples are pressured to adopt multiple identities. In accordance to the US
system of ethnic classification, Zapotecs identify as ethnically Mexican, followed by their regional
identity as Oaxaquenos (Oaxaca region of Mexico), and as lastly as Yalalag Zapotecs (Cruz Manjarrez
pg.126). But by juggling multiple identities, Zapotecs and other indigenous groups have both gained
both negative and positive aspects of themselves. By being labeled as Mexicans, Zapotecs and other
Mexican indigenous groups can take pride in a nationality they have been denied for so long. As
Oaxaquenos, there is a recognition of a broader pan indigenous identity in Latin America. For Yalalag
Zapotecs, the

Oedipus The King Blindness
Blind by Choice: From Dark to Light and Back Again Oedipus the King is the complex and twisted
story of a man who flees his homeland with hopes of escaping the fulfillment of a prophecy. However,
in the action of fleeing he actually collides with his fate. The images of sight and blindness are woven
throughout this drama of Oedipus search for the truth; Sophocles repeatedly uses these two opposite
ideas to expose the condition which is so often shared by a large portion of humanity. Blindness and
sight are depicted both literally and figuratively in this Greek tragedy. Oedipus journey begins in the
darkness that comes from lack of knowledge. A person may see the truth or be blind to it just as a
person may have perfect vision or no vision ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tiresias is summoned to help Oedipus in his quest; this blind man is the one character who truly sees
the situation. The king greets the seer with compliments saying, Though your eyes can t see it, your
mind is well aware of the plague that afflicts us (366 367). The soothsayer does not care for flattery as
he realizes he never should have come to Thebes to be part of this inquiry. Though Tiresias wishes to
remain silent, the king will not relent. Oedipus grows angry with the prophet and proclaims, Oh, truth
has strength, but you have none. You have blind eyes, blind ears, and a blind brain (446 447). The
wise man attempts to resist revealing the complete portentous truth but eventually gives warning: And
you are a desperate fool throwing taunts at me that these men, very soon, will throw at you (448 449).
Even this remark fails to open the king s eyes as he continues to insult and accuse Tiresias. The
fortuneteller then describes the life that is to come for Oedipus the king: A blind man who still has
eyes, a beggar who is now rich, he ll jab his stick, feeling the road to foreign lands (551 553). When at
last Oedipus realizes he is the murderer he set out to find, he cannot contain his rage. The king
succeeds in his pursuit of the truth, but then chooses to physically blind himself. As Oedipus

Prevalence Of Diabetes Among The Americans
Prevalence of Diabetes in Kuwait
Today, Diabetes happens to be the most challenging medical disorder existing in the world, with an
alarming rise in the number of individuals contracting and dealing with the same. Among the 10
countries worldwide, having the highest prevalence rate of Diabetes, Kuwait backs the ninth position.
Kuwait has an alarming 23.3% of prevalence of Diabetes and that is estimated to rise in the next 10
years.1, 2
There are many contributing factors for the increasing prevalence of Diabetes among the natives of
Kuwait like drastic epidemiological and cultural changes, sedentary life style, unhealthy eating habits,
ageing, over weight and urbanization.2, 3 Studies reveal that the occurrence of Type II Diabetes
mellitus is also increasing among the younger individuals, mostly covering the ones below 30 years of
age.4 It was also found that 73.4% of the people with Diabetes are below 60 years of age , i.e. in their
productive years, especially in Arab regions including Kuwait, which may adversely affect the
capabilities of individuals and the quality of life in the long run.36 Also, the onset of Diabetes is
characterized to be gradual, with around 30% of the patients presenting with complications at the time
of diagnosis5 and an asymptomatic time period of 10 years in which the disease remains undetected.6,
7 Hence, Diabetes poses a huge burden over the economy as a consequence of loss of productivity and
cost of health treatments.36

In Breast Cancer, The Estrogen-Estrogen Receptor Complex
In breast cancer, the estrogen estrogen receptor complex cause cell proliferation (Frank, 2013).
Hormone therapies can target the effects of hormones in two ways: 1) by stopping the production of
estrogen and testosterone, reducing their levels, and 2) by binding to the hormone receptor and
blocking the hormone from binding (Frank, 2013). In breast cancer, drugs such as Lupron prevent the
ovaries from making estrogen by blocking cues from the brain that regulate the ovaries (Frank, 2013).
In prostate cancer, Lupron works the same way to prevent the testes from producing testosterone
(Frank, 2013). Drugs such as tamoxifen (breast cancer) and flutamide (prostate cancer) bind to their
respective hormone receptors and bloc the hormone from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To even have a chance at success, health education programs must be implemented before the age of
14 (Williams, 1987). Health education programs are being implemented in schools that will teach
about the dangers of smoking and passive smoking (Williams, 1987). This is a preventative measure to
decrease the amount of people in society who are smoking and prevent children from picking up this
habit. Another health disparity is ethnic background. A study found that Asian women are referred for
late treatment for a breast lump compared to Caucasian women (Winship, 1997). Part of this disparity
is the disbelief that Asian women can/will develop breast cancer (Winship, 1997). Hospitals and
medical professionals also contribute to this disparity with ignorance towards minority cultures and
lack of interpreters (Winship, 1997). There must be changes implemented to medical and nursing
training as well (Winship, 1997). Medical manufacturers have been delayed with responding to the
needs of ethnic minorities such as a providing a variety of shades for prosthetics (Winship, 1997).
There is a need for strategically targeted educational material that will educate Asian women and
women of other ethnic backgrounds about the risks of breast cancer or even developing any form of
cancer (Winship, 1997). In prostate cancer, there is a very high incidence and mortality rate seen in
black Americans (Gilligan, 2005). There are major social

Sucker And Pete s Addiction
Sucker and Pete s Realationship Sucker and Pete s Relationship changes multiple times throughout the
story. Here we are near the ending of the story where Pete and Sucker s relationship is a very strong
feeling of hate from Sucker and fear from Pete. In just the First sentence their relationship or hate and
fear is clear. It is worse when we are alone together in the room. This shows that Pete is scared of
Sucker when they are in the room alone. Therefore implying the fear Pete has surrounding Sucker.
Sucker is very clearly intimidating Pete with his physical and mental presence. Worse shows that just
Pete is scared of Sucker in the room and out of the room. In my second quote it is showing Sucker s

Ftp Impact On Society
The early 1930s was home to one of the most devastating times in American history. Many Americans
were unemployed, making little money, and struggled getting by everyday. One thing that brought
people together were the theatrical arts. The Federal Theatre Project (FTP) helped to bring jobs and
entertainment to people during the Great Depression. The FTP did many things to bring theatrical
works across the country, but the short span of four years questions its effectiveness. The FTP gained
government support and provided jobs for people seeking work. With the government backing the
FTP, there were sure to be political problems such as unconstitutional practices. Theaters were private
businesses which provided unions to protect workers. Text

Superheroes In The Watchmen Character Analysis
I heard joke once: Man goes to doctor. Says he s depressed. Life seems harsh, and cruel. Says he feels
all alone in threatening world. Doctor says: Treatment is simple. The great clown Pagliacci is in town.
Go see him. That should pick you up. Man bursts into tears. But doctor... he says I am Pagliacci. Good
joke. Everybody laugh. Roll on snare drum. Curtains (Moore. 64).
The quote is a perfect representation of how complex and psychologically damaged the characters
truly are, proof of their sad and lonesome lives. Almost all of the characters had some sort of dark and
significant event which allowed them to become what they are known as. Thus, transforming them
into characters hardly any normal person can relate with, a chain each one of the characters must bear.
Quis custodiet ipsos custodes? (Who watches the watchmen?) Superheroes in the Watchmen are given
liberties to enact certain rules, but how does the public really know if said heroes are following the
same rules they abide. It is a testament to the large amount of power granted to certain authoritative
figures and how that said figure is able to abuse that power. I believe that these two quotes in a way,
coincide, while the Watchmen are rescuing others, who is there to rescue the Watchmen? That sad and
unpleasant truth is evidence, that in the end, there is simply no one that can offer Pagliacci the
treatment he desperately needs.
Is this what happens to us? A life of conflict with no time for friends... so that when it s done, only our
enemies leave roses (Moore. 43).
Stated by Rorschach after the death of the Comedian, the quote represents the burdens of a busy life of
crime fighting and its effect towards the man under the mask. The Comedian, due to his behavior and
lack morals, was disliked by the heroes fought beside him, thus, often being lonely. In itself is a
tragedy, that the character who is named The Comedian , was never really happy, despite always
having a grin and his signature smiley face button.
Any two or more students who submit the same quote selection and/or analysis will earn zeroes for the
Summer Reading Assessment.

Economy Tracking the U.S Economy Jessica Findish Jacksonville University Executive Summary In this paper, you will read about the current standing of the U.S. economy as of spring and summer for 2015. Gross Domestic Product (GDP), unemployment rate, inflation rate, foreign trade, consumer spending, business investment, and government spending will all be analyzed. This analysis will then lead to the projection of the U.S. economy for the first two quarters of 2016. U.S. Economy: Spring and Summer 2015 Gross Domestic Product (GDP) The Bureau of Economic Analysis showed output in the U.S. increasing at a rate of 2.3% for the second quarter of 2015 (Sharf, 2015). This is a 1.7% increase from the first quarter when real GDP increased 0.6% (Sharf, 2015). Current dollar GDP decreased 0.2 percent, which is the equivalent of $10.4 billion, in the first quarter of 2015 to $17,693.3 billion (News Release: Gross Domestic Product). The B.E.A. also reports (GDP 2015) that personal consumption has doubled within the first two quarters of 2015 from 1.8% to 3.6%, suggesting that consumer income has also increased alongside GDP. Unemployment Rate According to the BLS (Labor Force Statistics...), the unemployment rate has decreased in 2015. • 3. Acculturation In Children Previous studies showed participants were recruited from a charter school in Houston, Texas, between 2005 and 2009 and have revealed that higher levels of acculturation are related to obesity in Latino/Hispanic adults. Conflicting findings exist regarding this relationship in children, and little is known about the impact of acculturation on children s success in pediatric weight management programs. The purposes of the study were to (1) examine the relationship between acculturation and overweight/obese weight status and (2) determine the impact of acculturation on the changes in weight status among overweight/obese children 12 and 24 months after having participated in a weight management intervention. Also, 89.2 % of highly acculturated compared to 59.4 % of lowly acculturated children lived in the USA their entire life, making the likelihood of American media and literature exposure much higher in the highly acculturated group. • 4. Why Should We Choose Healthy Embryos Should Be Allowed By... Weekly Dialogue Questions Can you think of any advantage(s) for a couple to know the gender of their child while it was still a fetus in the womb? Can you think of any disadvantage(s) for a couple to know the gender of their child while it was still a fetus in the womb? Do you think widespread access to this knowledge would increase the number of elective abortions? In the article in the Johnson Textbook, a family used gender selection not to choose the gender but to find an embryo that did not contain the Fanconi anemia disease gene to harvest the umbilical cord blood to cure their child of this deadly disease. Do you think choosing healthy embryos should be allowed by families with genetic conditions so they may have children without diseases? Do you think this practice of embryo selection could lead down a slippery slope of a couple choosing the specific characteristic they desire in a child? How should these procedures be regulated? Original Post Science Technology in this generation has upgraded to another level gender selection. Gender selection is when two parents can choose if they want to give birth to a boy or a girl. Gender selection is legal in the United States, and illegal in other countries (ABC News, 2016). It is illegal in other countries because of people religion or political reasoning. • 5. Stephen Glass Essay [a] Although the film is not explicit on this point, what seems to be driving Stephen Glass? As best as you can tell, what are his life goals and aspirations? Did he truly know himself, including his own strengths and weaknesses? I think what made Stephen Glass to fabricate half of his news articles was his strive to make people around him feel excited in his presence and huger of the glory he was getting from the fictional stories he was presenting one after another. But since one lie creates another, eventually it got out of his control and he ended up partially or entirely fabricating 27 out of 41 of his news articles. Although at the beginning his goals was to be a journalist, later during the movie it drifted to entertaining the readers rather than providing fact based information. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Why did they ultimately fail? One of the strategy was that he made up things like phone numbers, fake voicemails, non existent people etc. to cover up his lies. For instant, Glass created a fake website for Jukt Micronics and in this case it ultimately failed because obviously this wasn t his field of expertise. Under the pressure, he failed to notice the website he created can only be accessed by the AOL users. That brought up questions as to why would a large software organization do such thing, has one phone line for the entire organization and many more question that he failed to provide an answer to Forbes editor. Another biggest strategy was that he was a master at lying. He lied so well that his co workers had believed him every time and fed him with laughter and amazement. But he messed up later when Glass asked his brother to pose as George Sims the executive manager of Jukt Micronics. Editor in chief Chuck Lane learned from another co worker that Glass s brother lives in Palo Alto and he realized that he could be the one who answered to his voicemail as George Sims and the lying started ... • 6. Essay On The Father Figure In Romeo And Juliet A father figure is someone who is respected for his paternal qualities and may be an emotional substitute for a father. William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet is a tragic story where a pair of star cross d lovers take their lives when their feuding families prevent them from being together. When Romeo and Juliet fall in love, Friar Lawrence plays a pivotal role acting as a father figure which influences several actions in the play. Friar s role as a father figure in Romeo and Juliet is central to understanding his support for Romeo s love for Juliet, his advice for Romeo to go to Mantua, and his guidance for Juliet to fake her death. Friar s acceptance for Romeo s love for Juliet is one way that Shakespeare portrays his role as a father figure in the play. An example of this can be seen in Act 2, Scene 3 when Friar reprimands Romeo just as a father would for being out all night and falling in love with another girl. The Friar states, Young men s love then lies / Not truly in their hearts, but in their eyes. Friar says this to Romeo when he has fallen in love with a girl named Juliet so soon after being in love with Rosaline. This proves how Friar acts as a father because he cares for Romeo and his well being even though he is not his son. He takes the time to understand Romeo s situation and give him some useful advice on what his next steps should be. Friar s support for Romeo s love is just one way Shakespeare portrays his fatherly figure in the tragic play of Romeo and Juliet. Secondly, Friar is at his most fatherly when Romeo has killed Tybalt and is distressed about being banished. The Friar tells Romeo to go to Mantua and be patient until things have settled down in the town of Verona. After some time has passed and fixed some issues, Friar tells Romeo that the two lovers can once again be reunited. He states: But look thou stay not till the watch be set, For then thou canst not pass to Mantua, Where thou shalt live till we can find a time To blaze your marriage, reconcile your friends, Beg pardon of the Prince, and call thee back With twenty hundred thousand times more joy Than thou ... Did you know that you can have your whole CD collection in your computer s hard drive? Are you tired of listening to the unexciting music played on the radio? Would you like to be able to make your own CDs? These days it is fairly cheap to have internet access and a computer that will let you record, store, discover, and download music. The second step is to download the music from Winmix or extract it from a CD; so you can start building a collection of music. My father, for example, got tired of loosing and scratching his CDs, so by extracting the music into his computer, he now has over a thousand songs stored in his PC. I m a music lover; I enjoy all types of music, from Trance to Classical, and I can not afford to buy all the CDs I want. The internet and Winmix give me the opportunity to download only the songs that I like; so I save tons of money and I discover new artists. Another advantage of this method is that it opens doors for new artists, because masses have instant access to their music. Critics believe that this is stealing from them, but on the other hand, the internet may catapult their careers to new levels. I m not going to spend twenty dollars on a one hit wonder album. • 10. Female Representation Of Women During Star Wars A very short time ago, in a world very well known, the famous Star Wars movies were brought to creation. George Lucas originally exposed the original Star Wars in 1977, and it has continued to up to present day. The ideas Lucas created through these movies helped evolve other films. One of the things that the prior Star Wars didn t evolve though was female representation in movies. The representation of women in past Star Wars films compared to the most recent Star Wars film has substantially evolved in the characterization of females. Through watching all Star Wars films, I can personally say that there was a dramatic change in how females were perceived in past Star Wars films compared to Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Females are taken considerably more serious in the more current Star Wars film. In Star Wars: The Force Awakens, a female character was portrayed as one of the stormtroopers captains. Captain Phasma, however, was not portrayed like most female characters in past films. Instead of being depicted as a sexual and dependent character, her script and costume conveyed otherwise. Captain Phasma wore an outfit similar to an average stormtrooper of any gender that did not sexualize her character. As well as this, the script used for her character showed little correlation to the stereotypical female presentation in prior films. It consisted of her characters script corresponding to how a stormtrooper captain would behave. She was not there to please the audience, or act sexy, but instead to play a part in the movie. Another representation of this is the female character, Rey. This character was given the opportunity to develop into who she was, not for the purpose of a man. Rey is one of the most prominent characters in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Her character spends no time developing for a man but instead trying to do what is right. • 11. Taking a Look at Christian Culture Written Report: Christianity is the world s largest religion. Two of the five centers are located in Turkey: Istanbul (also known as Constantinople) and Antakya. Antakya was also a place where the followers of Jesus were called Christians for the first time in history. The Hagia Sophia church (recognized by Saint Peter) is one of the oldest surviving churches located right in Anasofya Meydanı, Istanbul. Turkey is also home to Seven Churches of Asia, where Revelations to John (the final book of the New Evidence) were sent. Today, Turkey has more than 120,000 Christians, it includes 80,000 Armenian 35,000 Roman Catholics, 17,000 Assyrian, 4,000 Assyrians of the Chaldean Catholic, 3,000 4,000 Greek Orthodox, 10,000 Antiochian Greeks. There are also 349 active churches. There are three main groups of Christianity: Catholicism, Orthodoxy and Protestantism. Catholic churches are controlled by bishops and are close with the Pope. With more than 1.1 billion members, the Catholic Church is the largest church representing over half of all Christians and one sixth of the world s population. Eastern Orthodoxy is the second largest single value in Christianity with over 200 million supporters. • 12. Theme Of Holy Water By Joan Didion Bella DeLeon Instructor Westmoreland ENGL 1321 16 September 8, 2017 Holy Water Water is important to people who do not have it, and the same is true to control, (Didion). The article, Holy Water by Joan Didion draws parallelism to the controlling or lack of control of water by metaphorically comparing water to life. Analyzing the possibility of how people are taking water for granted, especially where rainfall is extremely sparse, Didion touches on how supply and demand of a natural resource is solely dependent on its availability and whether or not it is immediately needed. Didion s use of tone, appealing to emotions, gathering the audience to develop a trust, and providing a direct insight into her purpose allows the reader to recognize the importance water has within the planet. Didion s slight infatuation with water seems to be based on her own experiences in which she serves as testimonial evidence. As it happens my own reverence for water has always taken the form of this constant meditation upon where the water is, of an obsessive interest not in the politics of water but in the waterworks themselves, in the movement of water through aqueducts and siphons and pumps and forebays and afterbays and weirs and drains, in plumbing on the grand scale, (Didion). Therefore, her thesis remains strong and reliable, providing a further understanding to the reason why water should have importance to the world and to the individual. Additionally, drawing on the possible comparison that maybe water is a reference to the life of a person can provide an idea that life is just as uncontrollable when it is not being managed. Her tone exemplifies her certainty into how water gathers from the world and the neglectful actions can cause hardship to society. Water is not the same and the brilliance of water will never be from one direct location. The comparison of water to the life of a person provides an idea that the uncontrollable nature of water serves as a premise for life. According to the reference text in regard to premises, The joining of two premises two statements taken to be true to produce a conclusion, a third statement, is a syllogism (Barnet, Bedau and O Hara). Therefore, consumers might visit a retailer to enjoy a mood changing experience, something that will make them feel good (Hefer Cant, 2013). Visual merchandising is about creating that WOW experience for consumers as soon as they enter the building. Each display, sign, and store decoration serves a purpose. And that purpose is to inspire each customer to buy. When creating visual merchandising ideas, you must think about store spacing. Visual and product merchandising along with the store layout plays a major role in day to day operations and sales. Retailers design plan o grams based off maximum sales per square footage. A store floor grid creates paths for customers which allows the retailer to expose shoppers to many products and visual check points. The world of visual merchandising started to be used first and introduced as a differentiated strategy by Bloomingdale Department Store, under the awareness that merchandising alone could not raise sales, when American department stores were in the economic slump in the 1970 s (Kim, 2013). Since then visual merchandising is always the first check box when it comes to presenting a brand or brands. How does visual merchandising work for those companies that fall into unique industries? • 14. Going Back to School as an Adult Essay I do not believe the universe only knocks once, I believe it starts as a whisper and goes round and round till you get it. It is usually the quiet or the unexpected moments you hear it best, though still sometimes you might need several of those moments and a few reminders after that. Second, and instantly, I identified my self to the class as an individual whose second language was English, and how this would hinder me. First I had to be open and understanding of what an adult learner actually was. I came in to the class knowing I fit the criteria, but it was not until we read and discussed a few articles on the subject that I learned what that criteria actually was, and how it was a hinderance. In the article Adult Learning Theory it was brought to my attention that adults, though ready to learn, come to the class with predetermined bias and expectations. That while they come with knowledge and understanding, sometimes this is uses to reject new information instead of build on it (Kenner, C Weinerman, J., 2011). This is exactly how I came in to the class, assuming I knew things, ready to reject things, and would continue to unknowingly do so. I could recognize my self and my own learning patterns here, I was always quick to access what I already knew and easy to reject new ideas that did not fit. It is due to sexual and affective frustration and to the lack of social interaction(s). To put it differently, he attempts to reach through violence what he failed to achieve through dialogue and conversation: to impose a sense of identity, virility and authority. In The Homecoming, however, sex is one of the most instinctual and uncontrollable motivations of violence. Accordingly, characters go wild and transgress all moral codes to satisfy their sexual fantasies and appetites. On the one hand, Lenny is proud of the cruel stories he narrates in order to impress his brother s wife: Ruth. Max, on the other hand, indulges into insulting her at first sight. Even Ruth joins the game when she verbally owns Lenny: If you take the glass...I ll take you. Unfortunately for the Zapotecs and other indigenous peoples, migration to the US does not bring an end to the structural and symbolic violence they must face. Unlike the systemic pressure present in Mexico and their home countries, Indigenous groups face societal pressures not only from migrant mestizos but from the dominant Anglo population of the United States. From their mestizo countrymen, they generally experience a less intense form of the violence from the home country. Generally, these include shame of public displays of their languages and racial insults. From the Anglo population, Indigenous groups are often misidentified and grouped within the broader Hispanic identity, not understanding that they are a different cultural group. To fit a mold that has been pushed upon them, Indigenous peoples are pressured to adopt multiple identities. In accordance to the US system of ethnic classification, Zapotecs identify as ethnically Mexican, followed by their regional identity as Oaxaquenos (Oaxaca region of Mexico), and as lastly as Yalalag Zapotecs (Cruz Manjarrez pg.126). • 30. Superheroes In The Watchmen Character Analysis I heard joke once: Man goes to doctor. Says he s depressed. Life seems harsh, and cruel. Says he feels all alone in threatening world. Doctor says: Treatment is simple. The great clown Pagliacci is in town. Go see him. That should pick you up. Man bursts into tears. But doctor... he says I am Pagliacci. Good joke. Everybody laugh. Roll on snare drum. Curtains (Moore. 64). The quote is a perfect representation of how complex and psychologically damaged the characters truly are, proof of their sad and lonesome lives. Almost all of the characters had some sort of dark and significant event which allowed them to become what they are known as. Thus, transforming them into characters hardly any normal person can relate with, a chain each one of the characters must bear. Quis custodiet ipsos custodes? (Who watches the watchmen?) Superheroes in the Watchmen are given liberties to enact certain rules, but how does the public really know if said heroes are following the same rules they abide. It is a testament to the large amount of power granted to certain authoritative figures and how that said figure is able to abuse that power. I believe that these two quotes in a way, coincide, while the Watchmen are rescuing others, who is there to rescue the Watchmen? That sad and unpleasant truth is evidence, that in the end, there is simply no one that can offer Pagliacci the treatment he desperately needs. Is this what happens to us? A life of conflict with no time for friends... so that when it s done, only our enemies leave roses (Moore. 43). Stated by Rorschach after the death of the Comedian, the quote represents the burdens of a busy life of crime fighting and its effect towards the man under the mask. The Comedian, due to his behavior and lack morals, was disliked by the heroes fought beside him, thus, often being lonely. In itself is a tragedy, that the character who is named The Comedian , was never really happy, despite always having a grin and his signature smiley face button.
