The uses of Firearms by civilians are very dangerous, and its history needs to be studied. Many
wars and accidents in civic life made many countries prohibit keeping guns and firearms by
individuals, but there are some other countries that continue to keep guns, such as the United States
and the United Kingdom. I will focus on the gunculture in the United Kingdomfrom 1689 to 1997.
Because the Unite King start allowing individual keeping guns by Bill of Rights in 1689, the 1689
Bill of Right guaranteed British subject certain rights. People consider that it was a manifestation of
their right and freedom, but after some guns accidents that made citizen scare, they change their

5. Virginia Woolf Research Paper
Virginia Woolf, born January 25th 1882, was an unorthodox British author and feminist who had
an immeasurable impact on women, those with mental illnesses, and the LGBT community. She
was self educated and even though her father a literary critic didn t condone women going to
college he still helped educate and influence Virginia. Woolf is believed to have revolutionized
the english essay, because she never learned how to write a set essay in school she came up with
her own way. Virginia Woolfs childhood was cloaked with chaos and darkness. Her father was
very temperamental and brooding. This only worsened after her mothers death in 1895 causing her
father to withdraw into his studies. Woolf had also been being sexually abused by her half brothers
from her mothers previous marriage. This abuse continued even after her mothers death into her
young adulthood. Her mothers death along with her sexual abuse was to highly conductive to

7. Consciousness Among African Americans Women Essay
Consciousness Among African Americans Women
Samantha Venturina
Middlesex County College
Abstract
Race and ethnicity play a crucial role in one s life. Communities worldwide were developed
around diverse racial and ethnic identities whom proffer internal sources of resilience to others in
the community. However, these aspects can consist of adverse social consequences that influence
an individual s chances of receiving quality medical care, getting a job offer or loan, and/or being
falsely accused by authoritative figures. In addition to these hostile effects, one would ponder if it
has a detrimental effect a person s own self esteem. Recall the racial, class, and social inequality in
the United States of America in the 1960s (Eaton, Livingston, McAdoo, 2008). Those who were
considered minorities, such as the Chinese, Japanese, Indian, and various other races, dealt with the
earliest form of discrimination back in the days. For an elongated time, African Americans were
especially susceptible to the harsh and cruel discrimination in America as described in history
classes.
Given the prolonged exposure to such negativity, numerous social scientists were puzzled on
whether the psychological health of African Americans was possible. While there were several
studies that found race related attitudes to be positively related to healthier psychological outcomes
in African Americans; there were only an insufficient amount of reports that endeavored to assess

A number of Japanese fashion brands are beginning to rival the popularity of
American and European brands, as a result of unique trends and cutting edge style.
It is the talent for producing such cutting edge and uniquely styled fashion of the Japanese
designers that provided the inspiration for the „cute‟ Riot Grrrl style in Britain during the
1990‟s. In an article by writer Sharon Kinsella (1997) titled „The Japanization of European
youth‟ Kinsella recognises that childlike elements from the Japanese designers began to emerge
in the fashion‟s of the 1990‟s amongst the European consumers, as they began to wear
„cute‟ baby doll dresses or old fashioned frilly frocks with Dr Martins . The „Riot
Grrrl‟ style also known as the grunge trend of the 1990‟s formed in Britain was directly and
indirectly influenced by the Japanese „cute‟ culture, first created by Japanese designers in the
1980‟s, which saw the Kawaii style of adorable, innocent, simple, gentle, and child like fashion
dominate the Japanese popular culture of it‟s time. This is a strong example of how
globalization has allowed the designers of today to combine different elements of design, and trends
from different cultures globally, to produce new designs and trends that are more of a cutting edge
style and uniqueness. Japanese brands also made their presence felt in the highend market,

11. Les Demoiselles D Avignon Vs The Starry Night
Les Demoiselles d Avignon VS The Starry Night Case Study 1: The Starry Night by Vincent
Van Gogh is one of his most known artworks, it portrays his uniqueness from other artists during
his time, and it shows the viewer into some of his deepest emotions. Van Gogh had suffered
personal turmoil that reached a high in December of 1888, where he then had a brief stay at an
Arles hospital (Sayre 53). Within a few months van Gogh had been committed to a mental
hospital, which is where he painted The Starry Night (Sayre 53). The website Artble analyzes
that it seems as though van Gogh is creating a contrast between life and death with the bright sky
and the dark, quiet town. The Starry Night features a cypress tree, a tree known to mark graves,
which gives the viewer a sense of death. The church in the painting can be a representation of
both life and death. Life can be observed from the church because it brings its followers together
and can provide them with a sense of peace and happiness. Death can be observed because the
church is a place where the heavens are worshiped and the dead are buried to ascend into heaven.
Soth has interpreted the Starry Night as a religious picture, a sublimation of impulses that, since
Van Gogh s loss of faith... could not find their outlet in conventional imagery. He concluded: Unable
to paint The Agony in the Garden, Van Gogh projected its emotional content onto nature and
created a sublimated image of his deepest feelings. At its most profound

12. Reducing Vigilance Decrement During Vigilance Tasks
To effectively reduce vigilance decrement during vigilance tasks, a thorough understanding of it is
needed. This study explores whether vigilance decrement can be explained by the resource theory
or the mindlessness theory. The performance of 464 participants during a laboratory conducted dot
location vigilance tasklasting for twelve minutes. Six break activities were also conducted to reduce
vigilance decrement. Out of the six, the Rest group had the greatest effect on vigilance decrement
(no vigilance decrement) followed by the verbal memorygroup and the spatial memory group. With
no breaks, the continuous group had the greatest decrement in performance, acting as a control. The
results supported the use of the resource theory that a break of a different cognitive type improves
performance but the demands of the task influence must also be considered (more demanding tasks
drains resources at a faster rate).

Introduction
This review of the literature will be about the topic of sex trafficking. My research process
involved searching for information on sex trafficking and also human trafficking as a whole. I
investigated a great deal of different sources and used many websites of organizations dedicated to
spreading awareness on sex trafficking and working toward hindering it. I also researched using
non fiction books regarding sex trafficking, including works sharing the experiences of real victims
and survivors of trafficking. A common frustration that I had when researching was finding sources
with accurate information pertaining the male victims of sex trafficking. Since Male victims of
trafficking commonly go unseen, unheard and forgotten, this information was a bit more difficult
to find. Some themes that arouse during my research process were background information, the
global problem, victims, effects, and solutions. Some questions that drove my research process
were: How do traffickers lure their victims in?, Who are the most common victims of sex
trafficking?, Where does sex trafficking happen?, and How can sex trafficking being stopped?

In car sales I have to look at 3 components the producer price index and gas and fuel prices.
Looking at auto sales is a good way to look at demand for automobiles. The higher the consumer
demands the more or less should be produced. Fuel prices as well as oil have a dramatic impact
on auto sales, if prices are up the less likely the consumer will opt for a large vehicle. When
buying a vehicle is good to look at buying a CPI (Consumer price index) measures the average
change over time in the selling prices received by domestic producers for the output (Bureau of
Labor Statistics 2015) Another thing to analyze are interest rates as they are important to our
economy. Interest rates lead to more businesses borrowing money; if interest rates are low that
means consumer will buy the product. Interest rates are charged by the country s central or federal
bank loans and advances to control money supply in the economy in the banking sector which is
typically done in a quarter bases to control inflation and stabilizes the country s exchange rate . (
Kirch,Vick 2006). Interest rates and unemployment rates usually go hand in hand in the auto

18. The Impact Of Art In The Gilded Age
Art in general is a form of expression. Individuals use art to express emotions, passion, or make a
statement. Society can have an impact on how an artist chooses to express his or her sentiments.
The beauty of it all is that interpretation is what makes art so unique. The same piece of art can
mean so many different things due to who is looking at it. Just like everything else, art changes
with time. There has been different eras in art that have impacted society as we know it.
The Gilded was a time in history where America was changing. We were going from and
agricultural society to an industrial society. Many people were migrating to this land and cities
were being urbanized. During the gilded age many impactful events came into play as well. The
lightbulb and telephone were invented in this era. It was a time of innovation. Wealth and
flourishing economic growth was generated in the Gilded Age. In 1892 Ellis Island opens up and
six years prior the Statue of liberty had been dedicated. At the same time the farmers did not
prosper and the government was very corrupt as well. The women of the time were still dressed in
Victorian Style attire which sold the point of wealth amongst the public. With all of this happening
around us, it would make sense that art would be impacted by society.

Indeed, the safest road to Hell is the gradual one... (Lewis 61).
Throughout The Screwtape Letters, Screwtape consistently reiterates his
idea that the gradual road to hell is the safest . Because Screwtape
places so much emphasis on the gradual road, one must stop and consider
it closely. This gives us three questions that we should consider: What is
the gradual road to hell? How does Satan use it? How can the
Christian be on guard?
The gradual road to hell is the small sins that can separate someone
from God without the person even noticing they are drifting away. While
many people may believe that the quickest ways into hell are big sins like
murder, rape, and stealing, Screwtape seems to think the contrary. He... Show more content on

Murder is no better than cards if cards can do the trick (60 61).
In reality, no sin is greater than another. Satan understands that, though
we often do not, and will use that to his advantage.
Satan uses the gradual road to hell to enslave the victim often without the victim knowing what is
happening. If the Christian knew
he was on the steep road down, he would surely notice and turn around.
As Screwtape says:
As long as he retains externally the habits of a Christian he can still be made to think of himself
as one who has adopted a few new friends and amusements but whose spiritual state is much the
same as it was three weeks ago. And while he thinks that, we do not have to contend with the
explicit repentance of a definite, fully recognised, sin, but only with this vague, though uneasy,
feeling that he hasn t been doing very well lately. (57 58)
20. If Satan is able to keep us entangled in sin, no matter how small, we begin
to drift away from God and follow our own path, while still thinking we are
close to God, when the reality is that we have given ourselves over to
something else. The reason Satan s methods work is because we are so often
focused on ourselves that we don t even see the road we are walking.

Based on previous research done by Craik and Lockhart and the ones mentioned above, it can be
assumed or even highly justified that our experiment will share similar results. There will be
little to no difference when it comes to identifying the answers to the questions that are being

Australia. The Tracker is a 2002 art house film set in 1922. It is clear that there were no
Aboriginal rights and which white settlement had the greatest control. Bran Nue Dae is a 2009
musical/comedy/drama film set in 1969 about the beginning of Aboriginal rights. The different
perspectives are from Colonial/Indigenous people. The voices were through the role of the
characters, the genre, the music and the cinematography. The Archetypal characters in The
Tracker include The Follower, The Fanatic, The Veteran, The Fugitive and The Tracker. Each
character represents a different voice of a group within society. The voices express the issue of
race and racial inequality towards Aboriginals. The three main archetypal characters involve The
Fanatic, The Tracker and The Follower. The Follower represents a group with a minimum voice.
The follower playing the ukulele indicates that he is new to this sort of work. The Follower
learns to have a voice through the events he experienced throughout his journey. Symbolism
involves the burning of the ukulele. This conveys the perspective of the follower towards what
they are doing. The experience leads to him feeling unhappy and wanting to change. This draws
us into his experiences as we feel a strong connection because most of us have gone through this
in life. The Fanatic represents an aggressive and a controlling group. The Fanatic was so
excessive with finding the fugitive that he constantly mistreated the Tracker. Dialogue includes
Sorry? You want to feel sorry for someone, feel sorry for the pack horse. Now there s an innocent
victim . This shows that he was using The Tracker to find the fugitive and which he does not
consider his inner emotions. The audience is drawn to the Fanatic s experiences because his
perspective is interesting and is different compared to the others. We feel a part of the story
because we want to stop the Fanatic from doing any more harm. The Tracker

23. The Life Of Thomas Jefferson s Most Trusted Servants
Among the hundreds of slaves at Monticello resided James Hemings, a young man who, through
his renown family and unique skills, became one of Thomas Jefferson s most trusted servants. Son
of Elizabeth Hemings, a half African, half European slave, and John Wayles, Jefferson s Father in
Law, James was a half brother of Martha Jefferson. James and his direct siblings, although
considered to be black based on the ethnicity of their mother, were actually only one fourth African,
with the remaining three fourths of his ethnicity being European. This led their appearance to be
described as bright when compared to the other slaves. The blood connection kept the Hemings
family closer to the Jefferson familythan any other slaves. James... Show more content on

To the confusion of some, centuries later, James and Sally chose to return home with Jefferson.
Addressed by Annette Gordon Reed and primary sources directly from Jefferson, James Hemings
return to America can be supported as the smartest path for his future. While James Hemings was
deciding whether to stay in France as a free man, conflict emerged throughout the country. James
stay in France spanned from 1784 to 1789, and at the very end of his time there, on July 14th,
1789, tensions between the rich, upper class government and the bourgeoisie erupted into conflict
when the Bastille, a nearly vacant prison , was raided. Economic crisis had caused famine among
lower class citizens over previous years, and the general populace had grown weary of the
incompetence of the government. While the government s, specifically King Louis XVI s, plan to
restore the economy involved heavy increases in taxes, the bourgeoisie believed that the best
solution was, To abolish internal customs duties and establish a national market. To abolish guild
and government restrictions on entry into particular trades and businesses and establish freedom of
enterprise and laissez faire. To end feudal dues and tithes levied on agricultural property; rent,

primarily of a lower socioeconomic status. As previously indicated, nurses currently do not screen
for depressive symptoms. With that said, it is impossible to compare the context of research to
those seen in professional practice. However, multiple studies agree that education plays a vital role
in depression. Keskin and Engin (2011) wrote that educational status greatly impact depression
and suicidal ideation. They found that those experiencing depression (F = 7.42, p = 0.001) and
suicidal ideation (F = 4.51, p = 0.014) have a lower educational status. Similarly, Nabolsi et al.
(2015) found that individuals with higher education lead higher QOL (F = 7.250; P = 0.001) and
are less likely to display depressive symptoms (F = 10.721, P = 0.000). On the contrary, studies has
also shown that lower educational status, more specifically, hinder patients ability to fully
comprehend their disease process and treatment modalities (Chiang, Livneh, Yen, Li, Tsai, 2013;

According to a psychoanalytic theorist would claim that because Dina is around the age of three,
her superego has not fully developed, so she acts mainly on impulse. Because of her incomplete
unconscious, Dina s behavior is dictated by the id portion of her unconscious, which would
explain her selfish part of her personality when it comes to what she wants. Additionally, Dina is
shifting into the phallic stage from the anal stage, where she may have developed a resistance to
authority figures if her parents were impatient in helping her toilet train, which could cause her be
unresponsive to their teacher s lessons about sharing. A psychoanalytic theorist would suggest to
just let Dina outgrow it, as the ego and superego will continue to form until she is around the age

becomes fixated. A behaviorist would assert that Dina had learned her behavior through operant

28. Wal-Mart Ethics Essay
Wal Mart Stores, Inc. is currently entangled in a legal battle that will decide if the company has
engaged willfully in gender based discrimination. Underlying causes, organizational culture and
ethical issues will be examined in determining how the largest private employer in the United
States could have fallen prey to unfair labor practices. In 1999, women constituted 72% of Wal
Mart s hourly employees, but only 33% of its managerial employees (Bhatnagar, 2004). This fact
and many others are the reasons many people allege that Wal Mart has unfair labor practices. The

Another root cause of Wal Mart s problem is their lack of a formal job posting policy. Associates
are not made aware of management level openings. Those who selected to move up in the
organization are picked by store and division level management staff without regard to skill or
educational requirements. This system is described as a tap on the shoulder process (Betty Dukes
v. Wal Mart Stores, Inc 2004). Another underlying problem for Wal Mart is the company s policy to
promote from within the company. This reinforces the organizational bad culture and practices.
There are many unresolved issues with Wal Mart that have made the news. The hourly pay scale
for employees at the store level is below the Federal poverty level, many of the employees can t
afford health care, and inequality of hiring women for management positions. The average Wal
Mart employee earns $8.00 an hour, with the average work week being about 32 hours. This
equates to $256 a week or $13,312 a year. The Federal poverty level for a family of three is $14,630
(Brownstein 2005). Wal Mart s personnel polices are directed to keep wages cheap. Wal Mart
does this so they can maximize their profits. The health benefits for a Wal Mart employee costs
20% of the average employee s paycheck. Of their 1.2 million employees, 2/3 of the employees
can t afford the health benefits. Over the last 12 years,

The United States Surgeon General, Dr. Vivek Murthy, a leader in business and medicine, strongly
believes that our nation s greatest asset as always been its people. I personally agree with his belief,
not only because I admire his leadership qualities, but also because I believe the true power of a
leader comes from its people or in this case, followers. Leaders need followers, just as much as
followers need leaders. I strongly agree with Johnson, when he states, To be a Yes man is to fail as
a follower . To simply obey the orders and act as servant is not the meaning of being a follower in
the world we live in today. Cox, Plagens and Sylla also express these views when they mention, The
follower is no longer a mere subordinate who accepts and obeys the dictates of the leader . Just as
Johnson explains in his article, a good follower uses his skills and expertise to help his leader to

Leaders must be approachable and willing to consider the opinions made by the followers. At
times, the leaders must carry out decisions favored by majority of the followers. Leaders must
inspire collaboration amongst the followers. If a dispute breaks out, the leader must not pick a
side, but rather unite both parties and empower them to work together. Leaders must be role
models for followers and even inspire others to be leaders someday. On a final note, the term
followers today, in a globalized technological advanced world with 6 billion people, has a very
different meaning than what followers meant in the past. Therefore, in today s world, a leader can
have followers from anywhere around the world. In Passion and Purpose, the author also support
this claim by describing how once in America, MBA classrooms were filled with only white

MGMT10002 (Principles of Management)
Critically Analyse a Current (2011 onwards) Article Drawing Upon One Major Management
Concept Covered in The Course.
Corporate Culture, as defined by Daft and Samson (2015, p. 112), is the common code of conduct,
philosophies and suppositions shared between members within an organisation that encompasses
the entirety of it. All organisations have a prevalent culture that can be characterised as either stable
or flexible, concentrating either on its internal or external workings as described by Cameron and
Quinn s (1999, cited in Yazici 2011, p. 21) Competing Values Model (CVM) of culture. This essay
will critically evaluate the chosen article s theory that a company s culture and success is
determined by the attitudes exhibited by its top leaders, rather than the national culture. It will do
so by analysing examples of leaders behaviours, the national culture of a country and the effect of
culture on an organisation.
The leadership behaviours of corporation leaders can affect its culture by influencing the
members of the corporation from top down. Culture is taught to employees by those in
experienced managerial positions; so regularly practised that it becomes the norm, and is then
emulated by new employees who continue the behavioural patterns (Hellriegel et al. 2004, cited
in Mishra Raykundaliya 2011, p. 87; Kruger 2003, cited in Mishra Raykundaliya 2011, p. 87). As

32. The Characteristics Of Impactful Leadership In Jackson Vs....
1. E. Bronson Ingram was known for his strong leadership in both the business world and through
his philanthropic efforts. Describe which leadership characteristics you believe to be essential for
creating greater opportunities at the intersection of entrepreneurship and high impact philanthropy.
Andrew Carnegie once claimed that No man becomes rich unless he enriches others. Carnegie,
alongside other captains of industry, such as Cornelius Vanderbilt, pioneered the pairing of
entrepreneurship and philanthropy, through inspiring leadership. He witnessed the poverty and
destitution of the time and led both the business and philanthropic communities, alike, in the effort
to better society. He was an entrepreneurial and philanthropic leader due to his commitment to his
vision and his continual recognition of the potential he had to thwart society s injustice and
misdeeds. Consequently, with an undying commitment to one s endeavors, as well as constant
recognition of what one can do in order to combat the wrongs of the world, true, impactful
leadership can form at the intersection of philanthropy and entrepreneurship.
Without commitment, no vision can come to fruition. Great tasks require great dedication.
Especially when balancing both entrepreneurship and philanthropy, commitment is integral to every
endeavor. For example, without Steve Job s commitment to becoming a revolutionary innovator, the
devices we hold in our hands everyday would be nonexistent, as would be his charitable and
humanitarian efforts. However, with ardent fervor he thrived in entrepreneurship, founding the
world s most well known tech company, and, subsequently, philanthropy, donating many of the
funds that he raised to noble causes. Dedication was his key to success, putting his whole heart in
every task that he undertook. Thus, in order to maximize the opportunities at the crossroads of
philanthropy and entrepreneurship, this undying pursuance is necessary for successful leaders.
Furthermore, recognition of one s abilities to affect positive change is intrinsic to leading any
mission. The ability to perceive, beyond oneself, is the key to locating and targeting a problem with
success. For entrepreneurship and philanthropy to thrive

33. Thomas Cranmer s Presence In The Eucharist
It has been widely contended that Thomas Cranmer s thoughts on the presence of Christ in the
Eucharist had wavered throughout his time as a theologian, and that his writings are somewhat
ambiguous when it comes to addressing this important theological topic. Many academics agree
that Cranmer is not overly notable for his clarity in writing and concede that this ambiguity,
especially on writings of the presence in the Eucharist, is due to the long and uneven evolution of
his understanding of the presence. According to Daniel Marrs, a biographer was once quoted in
saying that Cranmer was a man of liberal sympathies and a man of extraordinary charm and goes

He still felt that the presence of Christ was within the Eucharist, and conceded his reluctance to
admit to transubstantiation in a letter to Thomas Cromwell. In the letter, Cranmer admitted that he
found the anti transubstantiation writings of Adam Damplip to be quite compelling. This was
quite a position for Cranmer to take, considering he was at one time so fervent in his position on
transubstantiation that he was responsible for eleven of the executions of people who refuted
the belief in the real blood and body presence of Christ in the Eucharist. In Cranmer s True and
Catholick Doctrine of the Sacrament Cranmer describes a spiritual presence of Christ in the
Eucharist. This moved away from the Zwinglian theory of memorialism (which Cranmer did
explore briefly) and was more cohesive with the Calvinist view. He says that those who worthily
eat and drink of the bread and wine receive his spirit within the sacrament. He determined that
there was a two fold presence of Jesus Christ within the Eucharist and described the figurative
presence that occurs when the consecrator repeats the words of Christ at the last supper to remind
us of Christ s sacrifice and that the spiritual presence exists for those who worthily eat and drink. In
the prayer book of 1549 we are permitted a glimpse of the real presence and spiritual presence
debate that was

34. The Objective Of Knowledge Management Essay
Introduction
In this global and increasingly knowledge based society, the principal asset for organizations in
both the public and private sectors is knowledge. To survive in the face of such global competitions,
organizations increasingly depend on their ability to transform information into knowledge as the
basis of competitiveness, decision making and the production of new products and services. There
for Knowledge Management (KM) can act as the process of capturing, developing, sharing, and
effectively using organizational knowledge (Davenport, 1994). The ultimate goal of KM is to
increase the effectiveness and the sustainability of growth of an organization. Although KM was
originally develop to fit the needs of for profit companies, but its practice has been spread over to
the non profit sector including LIS. Shanhong (2000) suggests that the objective of knowledge
Management in libraries is to promote knowledge innovation, closer relationships in and between
libraries, and between a library and its users, to strengthen knowledge inter networking and to
quicken knowledge flow. For some in the LIS community, KM is simply a case of new wine in old
bottles or of librarianship in new clothes , and more controversially, as nothing more than
information management (Koenig, 1997; Rowley, 2003; Schwarzwalder, 1999; Wilson, 2002).
The approaches that deal with the application of KM in the LIS environment are relatively new, and

The Adverse Effects of Obsession: Solid Object by Virginia Woolf
The Solid Objects by Virginia Woolf similarly encapsulates the prevailing modernist conception
of the impulse to collect, and the author conveys her strong disapproval of the protagonist, John s

the light and holds it so that its irregular mass blotted out the body and extended right arm of his
friend (11), prefiguring the way in which his growing obsession with collection will eclipse his
interest in friends, work, and everyday concerns (Alt, 88).
To start with, Woolf points out that John s obsession has destroyed his social life. Woolf describes

John achieves an elevating sense that he can make his own choice, which is the desire of
controlling through his collection, where Woolf describes it might so easily have been any other

the collector and this allows the collector, in turn, to recognise himself in the object as an absolutely

seeking purpose in the collection of esoteric objects. Woolf s condemnation of John s deeds is

41. Two Colors One Land
TWO COLORS ONE LAND American Dream is a taboo for many people from different
nationalities who are pursuit of happiness. One of the former U.S presidents Bill Clinton defined
American dream as; if ones do the best that they can, all the doors will open to them in order to
reach happiness and to benefit from the opportunities. (Michael S., 2004) Throughout the world
many people day dream to be a part of American dream one day. However the missing point
which they do not know is that the expectations may be disappoint humans after they take one
slice of the big cake which is called American dream. Michael Schudson mentioned in his journal
that U.S is known as American dream for many people but indeed, U.S is not the land of
opportunities that people are assumed. When one takes one slice of the big cake he or she can
realize that the taste of the cake is not same for all races in U.S. There is a non ignorable
categorization between the races in U.S. Jefferson M. Fish defines racism: Treating people unfairly
because of their group membership . (2011) There are many advertisements that introduce U.S as
the land of opportunities and land of freedom. U.S is one of the most developed countries about
economic conditions and opportunities. There are many work streams, many opportunities that are
provided for people. However the opportunities are not equally balanced between the all ethnic
groups. Despite some ethnic groups take advantage of the

Senior Project Basketball is more than just a sport Dwayne Wade was born January 17, 1982 in
Chicago, Illinois. Most people see Wade as just an NBA star who has a lot of money, but most
people don t know the full story of what he has been through in his life and how he got to the
NBA. When Wade was born, his parents separated a short while after and custody was given to
his mother. Then because of the crime in Chicago and financial issues Wade had to move with his
father. This is where Dwayne Wade began to play basketballand found out that he was really good
at it. He was a star on his high school varsity basketball team then moved up to the college and
was unable to play for his first two years because of his grades. For these two years that Wade
couldn t play he still practiced with the team and continued to work on and improve his game. In
2003 Wade entered the NBA draft and was selected to play with the Miami Heat where he made
himself an All star and still is an all star today. People who play basketball are affected in many
positive ways by it. African Americans that come from low income families and dangerous
neighborhoods often play basketball. Young African Americans see playing basketball as a ticket to
a better life and a cheaper education. Black students receive more athletic scholarships than any
other race. In 2008 African Americans received twenty three percent of all athletic

43. Essay about Dracula vs Van Helsing
Dracula reflects both Bram Stoker s context and his interest in controversial ideas. Use Dracula and
Van Helsing to demonstrate what concepts and concerns have endured and how they have been
represented in both texts.
JUSTIN LIANG
Dracula ( novel) written by Bram stoker is a text which reflects its English Victorian era context,
where gender roles were repressed and science and religion had a conflicting relationship. Van
Helsing (Stephen Summers) is a contemporary reproduction which demonstrates the same concepts
and concerns that have endured but evolved, and so they have been represented for the modern
day audience. The evolution of the concern of Gender roles and the idea of the new woman is very

She is armed, and ready to hunt the deadliest monsters of Transylvania, something the men in the
novel would not dare to do.
The gothic convention follows the idea that female protagonist needs constant protection and being
rescued by the male is still clearly incorporated in the text. Even though Anna, is depicted as a
beautiful and physically strong girl.she still needs protection by others, but the difference between
the original convention and the contemporary view is that she is not completely weak but not as
strong as the male protagonist, Van Helsing. This reflects the contemporary Van Helsing context.
During the Victorian era, The growth in science and technology was dramatic and challenged
religious theories. One discovery that is eloquently evinced in the story is Darwin s theory of
Evolution, which reflects the novels context as it was a controversial issue of the era. This theory
is thought to be the transformation of populations in the struggle for survival as the ones with the
best characteristics will be more likely to survive, and those desirable traits are likely to be passed
off to offspring. Early in the novel, as Harker becomes more uncomfortable with his lodgings and
his host at castle Dracula, he notes, unless my senses deceive me, the old centuries had, and have,
powers of their own in which mere modernity cannot kill Here, Harker states one of the central
concerns of the Victorian Era: Supernatural,

A classic Mediterranean dome was chosen over the traditional Medieval Gothic in 1367 since Italian
architects thought of Gothic buttresses as unattractive for such a building. Also central Italy s
northern enemies loved to use buttresses so buttresses in architecture was banned in Florence

the plan was to build a dome that had the same span as the Parthenon but the technology or
techniques to do so was largely lost and have been discontinued for quite a while
The building was still missing its dome for a 100 years after its initial construction because the
difficulty of the task to build a large dome for such a large building was very hard to come up with
Arnolfo di Cambio had made the basics for the dome but this itself had a structure that would not
keep it from falling apart under its own weight

than any other dome in history

as gambling in these states.(Iowa, Arizona, Washington, Louisiana, and Montana all don t allow

amount of good and bad advices. In my opinion the book was a unique plot and it had me
intrigued all the way till the end the pages were an ease to go through and I wish there was more
to offer, as to more books. There was always some drama going on in the book so I would never
set it down for a break. I would like for the series to continue if it could, but overall it was a very
great and I would read it again. In this reading it shows how the life of a teenager living on her
own can be really difficult without a parent, but can be good for the young girl because she can
learn from her mistakes and it gives the teen a good life lesson on the consequences. Throughout
the book Kelle grows up and faces many challenges. Most young teen readers can relate to Kelle

47. The Lay Of Leithi Tolkien s Epic Fairy Tale
The Lay of Leithian: Tolkien s Epic Fairy Tale Audry Hepburn once said, If I m honest I have to
tell you I still read fairy tales, and I like them best of all. Often, a child s first introduction to
literature begins with fairy tales and which tends to resonate with them years later. Fairy tales then
become a story that is inspiring for children and nostalgic for adults. The fairy talestory varies in
definition between critics, yet it is always a form of fantasy. J.R.R Tolkien s fantasy novels The
Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, and The Silmarillionfollow clear structural patterns common among
fairy tales. One story in particular, Of Beren and LГєthienfound within The Silmarillion, was
originally to be Tolkien s epic poem titled The Lay... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While the Victorian era saw fairies as diminutive creatures and fantastical worlds or adventures,
Tolkien s emphasis was on the mortal man. He writes in his essay, Faerie contains many things
besides elves and fays, and besides dwarfs, witches, trolls, giants, or dragons: It holds the seas, the
sun, the moon, the sky; and the earth, and all the things that are in it: tree and bird, water and
stone, wine and bread, and ourselves, mortal men, when we are enchanted (On Fairy Stories 4).
Tolkien thus believed that a fairy tale consisted of the entire world through an enchanted
perspective, that even mortal men are enchanted in a fairy tale. Within Of Beren and LГєthien, the
protagonist is Beren who is a man in love with LГєthien. LГєthien is the daughter of an Elf and a
Maiar and is thus connected with the Valar, the angels of Middle Earth and based off of Germanic
and Greek/Roman Gods. Their love is thus enchanted and Beren s quest to make LГєthien his is
Heroic and full of enchantment. Tolkien also writes, Stories that are actually concerned primarily
with faries, that is with creatures that might also in modern English be called elves, are relatively
rare, and as a rule not very interesting. Most good fairy stories are about the adventures of men in
the Perilous Realm or upon its shadowy marches (On Fairy Stories 4). Thus he stresses the
importance of a fairy tale to emphasize the adventures of men and not focus completely on the lives
of elves or fairies. As well, the journey through the Perilous Realm then becomes more enchanting
and fantastical when completed by a

49. The Long Term Effects Of Head Start
Head Start is a federally funded government agency, that provides low income youth with pre
school and health services (Barnett, 2007). However, the long term effects of Head Start are
extremely difficult to measure (Lee, Zhai, Brooks Gunn, Han, Waldfogel, 2013). Subsequently,
Head Start has become one of the most controversial government agencies (Nathan, 2007).
Head Start was created in 1965, during Lyndon B. Johnson s presidential administration, as part of
the Great Society plan and the War on Poverty(Currie , 2001). After observing the quality
discrepancies between low income and high income educational settings, Johnson realized that

Head Start on their future (Johnson, 1965). Soon, Head Start was established, with the goal of
enhance[ing] children s physical, social, emotional and cognitive development (Mississippi Head

For the first twenty years of its existence, Head Start was an intensive summer program (Hevesi,
2010). During an eight week period, throughout June and July, four and five year olds, from low
income families, were taught fundamental math and reading skills that would prepare them for
kindergarten in the fall (Hevesi, 2010). Due to the overwhelming success of the summer program,
in 1982 Head Start was expanded to become a

50. Puberty Rites Of Passage
In many cultures around the world, ceremonies are held or rituals are undergone to mark the
passage of adolescents into adulthood. These are known as rites of passage. Rites of passage, is a
term first coined by Arnold Van Gennep in 1909 to describe the universal transition of adolescents
by maturational progression, a phenomenon that is cross cultural (Gibson, 2007). Indeed, the term
puberty rites and rite of passagecan be used interchangeably. Because puberty is an experience all
humans have, the rite of passage may reflect cultural evolution as co occurring with bodily
changes (Weisfeld ,1997, as cited by Gibson, 2007). Rites of passage can also signify changes of
status in other stages of life, and these transitions seem to be demarcated... Show more content on

It is theorized that the adolescent rite of passage has lost its importance because of a change in
focus from communal concerns to individuality, or exposure to varied belief systems (Gibson,
2007). Some youth, who lack the completion of these semblances of rites, create their own
through activities such as the use of substances, body modification, or gang initiation (Sande,
2002; Vigil, 1996; Wall, n.d., as cited by Gibson, 2007). A possible reason for the fading of formal
rites, is a societal move away from the importance of sexual maturity for reproduction reasons to a
society that instead imbues status for financial and vocational gains (Gibson,

First, since the firm has been a historic champion of barrier coating , starting producing a product
which has been characterized by the very firm as weaker and lower quality would go against the
very major message of the company and its cost effectiveness approach. This would at least put
under question mark the image of the company and its philosophy, at most render almost futile all
its market education efforts of more than a decade. Anyway, as mentioned, GAFCEL s success
did not come about as a result of creating additional market but rather of gaining a portion of
market previously occupied by Astro. It is not that the profit margins were low for the uncoated
products (indeed, these hovered around 60 70%), but the change in the product line would have
been against the whole idea of Sealed Air. And the firm had very goodbrand awareness and the
American customer was opting for quality and cost effectiveness.
In contrast to the American market, the emergence of new competitors on the European market
seemed to have the potential of a much more powerful impact. The European customer was not
that educated about the product and many regarded packaging supplies as expendable commodities

decision to diversify by enlarging the product line into uncoated bubble packaging material would

Therapy, 30: 5 28. doi:10.1111/j.1467 6427.2008.00413.x
The purpose of this article was to explore the experiences of first sessions of families who have
children with intellectual disabilities using solution focused brief therapy (SFBT). The participants
consisted of mothers who were interviewed two weeks after the initial session. The SFBT session
was a stand alone session that was designed to assess the usefulness of the initial session. The
mothers were asked to complete the Helpful Aspects of Therapy Questionnaire after the end of the
session. Participants listened to excerpts from their therapeutic sessions that they identified as
helpful or unhelpful while completing the questionnaire. The families that participated had used
psychological services before hand in the form of special education, social, and health services.
Through the interventions there were three major themes that were identified; SFBT introduced
making the best of it , exploration of wishful thinking, and the efficacy of the therapeutic
relationship. What the authors mean by making the best it is the idea that there is no point in
dwelling on the disability and to keep moving forward. Mothers expressed that they had no choice
about their role of carer which lead to a sensation of
