The Influential Typeface Helvetica
The influential typeface Helvetica, a neo grotesque1 sans serif type design, came into being in the early 1950s
after the Second World War. The expectation of the designers, Edouard Hoffman and Max Miedinger was to create
a neutral typeface that had great clarity, no intrinsic meaning in its form and could be used on a wide variety of
signage to remake a new identity apart from the past (). Originally named as Neue Haas Grotesk, the typeface was
changed to Helvetica in 1960. Today, Helvetica, as an aesthetics constant, although not perfect, mastered the
quantum leap in 1957 from metal type to the digital age of word processing. Axel Langer, a curator of Islamic
Near Eastern Art, mentioned it as an impersonal typeface for today and tomorrow ().

The original design was released by Linotype in 1957. Since its launch, the typeface had been worked on by a
variety of designers to adapt it for successive methods of composition, from hot metal to photocomposition to
digital. Given the technical limitations of methods, the character weights, widths and spacing were inconsistent
and compromised.
Neue Helvetica, as the outcome of technological changes, was designed in 1983, represents a synthesis of
aesthetics and technical refinements and modifications that resulted in improved usefulness: a number of
characters were subtly changed to be more consistent and more harmonious with the overall design characteristics.
For instance, the x height has been adjusted to appear visually the same in all weights. The x heights in previous
versions were all the same, but since type tends to look shorter as it gets heavier, the new x heights compensate for
this optical illusion. Besides, the crossbars on the lowercase f and t were widened to increase the legibility in text.
Additionally, the Neue Helvetica family was extended to 51 weights in all, which are many more than in the

Summary Of The Book The Kitchen Window And My Home...
Liesel is looking out of the kitchen window in her home at 33 Himmel Street, hoping that something exciting
would happen on that currently drab day. Suddenly, a creature swoops down from the sky, landing in front of her
house. It s probably just a bird, Liesel thinks. The supposed bird then stands up bipedal. The bird was not a bird at
all. It was a HUMAN. Liesel s eyes widen and she crouches underneath the window, trying to recollect her
thoughts. A human just fell from the sky. That s only something I ve read about in fantasy novels. Then, how is
this happening? She peeks over the windowsill to get a better look at the different person with her light blue orbs.
She nearly jumps back in shock. The person, whom Liesel can now tell is a teenage girl, is looking right back at
her with her dark brown eyes. The teenager smiles gently, knocking on the window. Lisel gulps, stands up straight
and walks over to the door to meet the stranger. She opens the door, now coming face to face with the dirty blonde
haired girl. The girl looks normal...except for the fact that she has white spotted wings coming out of her back.
Liesel stammers. U Um...who are you, exactly?
The other girl smiles. My name s Maximum, but, you can call me Max. Sorry about scaring you at the window
earlier. I just wanted to see if anyone lived here.
Liesel smiles slightly. It s okay. My names Liesel, but...I m just curious...how did you get those wings? I thought
that was just fictitious.
Max sighs. I

Definition Essay On Heaven
A common religious, cosmological, or transcendent place where beings such as gods, angels, jinn, saints, or
venerated ancestors are said to originate, be enthroned, or to live, this is the wikipedia definition of heaven.
Although heaven is used often in daily conversation, many of people who use the word do not truly understand the
meaning of the word to Christians. As people go throughout their lives they will commonly say This is like heaven
on earth, however, they have no idea what heaven s glory truly is. In fact, Christians have assurance that Jesus and
his Father care about their children and will have a wonderful home that we can live in for eternal life. Matthew

Examples Of Implicit Personality Theory
Implicit Personality Theory
Dunning (2007) says that implicit personality theory is the idea that if a person displays one characteristic, they
are likely to have other characteristics associated with the displayed characteristic. Two types of implicit
personality theory Dunning (2007) focused on were the halo effect; if someone exhibits positive attributes,
additional positive attributes will be attributed to them by the perceiver and vice versa, and attractive people are
ascribed more positive attributes by others, regardless of behavior. It is a heuristic used by people to make
impulsive decisions. Unfortunately, it frequently leads to the wrong impression and it allows other people to use it
to influence decision making through impression ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Cataract Surgery
Definition
A cataract is defined as an opacity of the lens of the eye that causes partial or total blindness. The word is derived
from the Latin cataracta , which means waterfall. To the eye of an observer, the foamy white opacity of an
advanced cataract resembles that of the turbulent water of a waterfall. (Chang, Cataracts Definition, 2014)
Etiology
The lens is a naturally clear, transparent, and avascular structure located behind the iris. Light passes through the
transparent lens to the retina to produce clear, sharp images on the retina. The lens is made mostly of water and
protein fibers. The protein fibers are arranged in a precise manner that makes the lens clear and transparent. When
the lens undergoes changes, and the structure ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Studies show that overall 89.7% of post surgery cataract patients achieved 20/40 visual acuity or better. To put
into perspective, visual acuity of 20/40 is the acuity necessary to obtain an unrestricted driver s license (Powe,
Schein, Gieser, Tielsch, Luthra, Javitt Steinberg, 1994).
Patients can resume normal activity such as reading, walking, eating, and watching television the evening of
surgery. The eye may be patched, depending upon whether anesthesia was local or topical. The eye is typically
examined on the first post operative day. Many surgeons allow resumption of driving at the level immediately
prior to surgery at this time, as long as continued patching is not required. Sutures are removed at 6 to 12 weeks if
there is suture induced astigmatism. (Jacobs, 2015)
Patients typically are seen one day, one week, and one month after surgery to monitor for complications and
proper healing. Patients with large incisions typically are advised not to undertake heavy lifting or strenuous
activity for several weeks to several months. Patients with smaller incisions could resume regular activity after a
period of days to weeks. (Jacobs,

Rabbit Proof Fence Analysis
The film, Rabbit Proof Fence, is directed by Phillip Noyce, and it is a film about three young Aboriginal half caste
girls (Molly, Daisy, and Gracie) who were forcibly taken away from their families and taken to the camp at Moore
River Native Settlement to be taught to become servants. A couple of days after arriving at Moore River
Settlement, the girls run away from the camp and go through a terrible journey of one thousand five hundred miles
trying to find their way back to their family. An Aboriginal tracker, Moodoo is called to find them. The girls cover
their tracks and avoid Moodoo, getting help from village people. She pretty clever girl. She wants to go home.
They experienced fears and doubts along the way to Australia to make it back to their family. Throughout the film,
Noyce uses many effective film techniques to analyze the emotions and characteristics of important individuals to
show specific scenes such as camera angles, lighting, filters, and dialogue. Camera angles are used in the film to
expand the size and control of important characters. Phillip Noyce set angles of the camera onto the characters to
appear stronger, and an example is when a low shot appeared of Mr. Neville at the beginning of the film, he is
controlling the removal of the Aboriginal girls from Jigalong. As you know, every Aborigine born in this state
comes under my control. Noyce has set Mr. Neville as the Chief Protector of Aborigines and the antagonist in the
film. Since he has control, he is the leader, and needs to appear larger than everyone else. He became strict and
fearful. Later in the film, when the girls run away from the settlement, the camera angles of him became higher.
Noyce has purposely set angles to show Mr. Neville losing control of the girls; therefore, he is powerless and
exposed. Another example is in the scene where they were being taken away, the camera shot was a close up to
show the facial expression of the characters. The camera angle for this view is with an eye to eye level to explain
reality. This helps the audience to better determine, by using camera angles, the importance of each character in
the film. Phillip uses tricks on the angles to let the audience think that character appears

The Issue Of Criminal Activities
To participate in criminal activities means to be involved in An act committed in violation of law where the
consequence of conviction by a court is punishment, especially where the punishment is a serious one such as
imprisonment. There are various reasons why an individual may choose to commit the offense; however, there are
also many different developing theories and suggestions about why crimes actually occur at all. For example; do
some individuals have a predisposition, born of either their nature or nurture, which leads them to commit crimes?
Can the likelihood of committing a crime be decided within the first four years of life? And therefore, whether or
not are offenders always to blame? Attachment can be defined ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These children are often easily soothed by their attachment figure and are able to then grow and develop
confidence in their attachment figure to be there to support them. Children are then able to use their attachment
figure as a secure base in which to explore their surroundings. However, when the child and their caregiver are
separated, the child becomes upset and distressed until their return, in which they are again easily comforted. An
insecure resistant attachment develops as a result of inconsistent levels of responses from their primary caregiver.
The child grow to be dependent on their attachment figure and often exhibit clingy behaviour but as a result of not
developing any feelings of security toward them, they are not easily soothed or comforted by interaction with their
primary caregiver when distressed. Children with resistant attachment type explore their surroundings very little
as they prefer to stay within the close proximity of their caregiver. Insecure avoidant attachment type may develop
if the child s primary caregiver is inattentive or unavailable during times of distress. This motivates the child s
belief that any communication of their needs will have no impact on their primary caregiver. As such the child
then continues not to seek contact with their caregiver during further times of distress. Children with this
attachment type also tend not to orientate their explorations of the world in accordance to

created an individual style by using some of what they knew, then made it their own. Some tried for hyper realistic
while others didn t go for realism. They each developed these form the way they lived. Mesopotamia had statues
with big eyes or some didn t have eyes at all. They all seem to fold their hands for some reason. Some could even

indu wisdom, which inspires humans to live the ideals of compassion and nonviolence, is captured in one word,
ahimsa. In Sanskrit, himsa is doing harm or causing injury. The a placed before the word negates it. Very simply,
ahimsa is abstaining from causing harm or injury. It is gentleness and noninjury, whether physical, mental or
emotional. It is good to know that nonviolence speaks only to the most extreme forms of forceful wrongdoing,
while ahimsa goes much deeper to prohibit even the subtle abuse and the simple hurt. Devout Hindus oppose

If Homo sapiens is to survive his present predicament, he will have to rediscover these two primary ethical
virtues. In order to understand the pervasive practice of nonviolence in Hinduism, one must investigate the
meaning of life. Why is life sacred? For India s ancient thinkers, life is seen as the very stuff of the Divine, an
emanation of the Source and part of a cosmic continuum. The nature of this continuum varies in Hindu thought.
Some hold that the individual evolves up through life forms, taking more and more advanced incarnations which
culminate in human life. Others believe that according to one s karma and samskaras, the process can even be
reversed, that is, one can achieve a lower birth. Even those Indians who do not believe in reincarnation of an
individual still hold that all that exists abides in the Divine. They further hold that each life form even water and
trees possesses consciousness and energy. Whether the belief is that the life force of animals can evolve into
human status, or that the opposite can also take place, or simply that all things enjoy their own consciousness, the
result is the same a reverence for life. Not all of Earth s one billion Hindus are living in a perfect state of ahimsa
all of the time. Sometimes conditions at hand may force a situation, a regrettable

Essay about Doubting Thomas
Doubting Thomas
According to Webster, Skepticism is the philosophical doctrine that the attainment of absolute knowledge is
impossible. It comes from the Greek word skeptesthai meaning to examine, and the practice was brought about
during the elementary stages of philosophy by Pyrrho sometime between 360 270 b.c. Some other well known
skeptics are Xenophanes, Gorgias, and Sextus Empiricus. Skepticism is very common in today s society, and is
practiced in some way by all. If you are alive and functioning on this planet, you ll find that it is difficult to avoid
being skeptic in one way or another.96 Pyrrho was an ancient Greek philosopher, who introduced pure skepticism

Such skepticism was useful during Pyrrho s time; if nothing was provably wrong, one could legitimately accept
the customs or religion of whoever was in power. He also believed that each theory had it s own contradictory
argument, so he suspended judgment on all events.161 The roots of skepticism are also believed to be accredited
to Xenophanes, a philosopher and poet of Asia Minor. He believed that if truth were stated. It could not be known
In his writings Xenophanes cleverly satirized the polytheistic beliefs of earlier Greek poets and of his own
contemporaries. He ridiculed their deities as gods created in the image of the mortals who worshiped them. In a
famous passage he asserted that if oxen could paint and sculpt, they would depict gods who resembled oxen. He
felt that humans should reject polytheistic ascribing of human motivation and characteristics to inanimate objects,
animals, and phenomena and recognize instead a single non human deity underlying and unifying all worldly
phenomena. 117 A parallel to Xenophanes philosophy is that which was expressed by Gorgias, a famous Sophist.
The Sophists consisted of experienced debaters and speech writers who popularized the ideas of various early
philosophers; but based on their understanding of this prior philosophic thought, most of them concluded that truth
and morality were

The Incredible Power of One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich
It has been Russian writers in particular, who for two centuries have struggled against censorship and oppression
to accomplish two great tasks: to create innovative and meaningful art, and to use that art to make a statement
about a specifically Russian predicament. So often the theme was political, and so many generations of Russians
criticised Mother Russia for her backward ways. Vissarion Belinsky s caustic admonitions in his Letter to Gogol

Much of GULAG was based on hundreds of letters and memoirs that former prisoners mailed to Solzhenitsyn
after One Day was published. (Remnick, 119)
When reading One Day it is overwhelming to comprehend and imagine this single dawn to dusk description, with
the hindsight to understand that millions of multitudes of men and women suffered through such an evil scheme of
servitude of cruelty.
One Day was the first book of its kind to be printed in Russia. Miraculously, it was not only printed, but
subsequently soldto the citizenry, who were actually allowed to read it. This unheard of event occurred during a
very delicate period of time known as the Khrushchev thaw , when open condemnation of the cult of personality
began to become commonplace, even expected. These brief years of relief enjoyed a momentary artistic flowering,
and poets like Yevgeny Yevtushenko and Anderi Voznezensky, among others, began to emerge. During
Khrushchev s cultural thaw, plays or novels such as Solzhenitsyn s One Day in the Life of Ivan Denizovich were
the primary signs of new freedom. (Smith, 110) The response to this little book was immense, and an interesting
documentation of varied responses to it is included in Leopold Lebedze s work, Solzhenitsyn: A Documentary

Summary Of The Red Figure Volute Krater
The Red Figure Volute Krater was made in ca. 310 100 B.C by an unknown Arpi painter. This mixing vessel was
crafted in Apulia, a region near southern Italy. It was made out of ceramic and was smoothly painted. The mixing
vessel/vase is approximately half the height of the average human, and approximately 20 inches in diameter,
making it a rather large piece of art. It had a solid base, hollowed our center and two handles on either side, for
carrying and decoration. Red Figure Volute Krater is a very intriguing artwork and includes two painted sides that
depict narratives. The artists use of detailed figures, movement, and composition create an emotional narrative for
the viewer of the Red Figure Volute Krater. The Red Figure Volute Krater is located in the Tampa Museum of
Arts. The museum has a modern feel to it and by viewing it from the outside you will notice its modern
architecture. The artwork is located in an exhibit with Greek and Roman antiquities, which is on the second floor
of the museum. When you walk up the main stair case this is the first exhibit you see, it is not easily hidden, and it
is filled with fascinating objects. This exhibit in particular is located next to an exhibit on animals in ancient art,
which also displays similar artworks. I believe that since the exhibit where this piece is displayed is front and

In The Devil s Arithmetic Hannah experiences this first hand, because while at first she can remember where she
was really from her memories started to fade. When she at last could not remember anything about her true
identity she became very frightened and did not understand what was happening (The Devil s Arithmetic 100).
Hannah experiences the same fear her relatives had felt when they went through the Holocaust. It is then she
realizes the importance of remembering your past because she had never really realized the suffering they had
gone through. This gave her more respect for what her relatives went through than ever before. Through Hannah s
confusion and horror Yolen conveys the theme that it is important to remember the past. In Mapping the Bones
Yolen expresses the same theme, but through Gittel s remembrance of what happened to her during the Holocaust.
In the present, Gittel says that she has, five adopted children, all orphans of other wars. (Mapping the Bones 411).
Because she refuses to forget what happened in her past she applied what she learned into her present day life. By
remembering, she helped five other children involved in wars to raise them better than how she had been raised.
This illustrates the theme that remembrance is important to the

Controversy Of Advertisement
Argumentative Essay
In today s society the only way to become a famous musician is to have good music that fans will like. One of the
ways fans learn about an artist s new songs is through ads. A fan would be watching TV or listening to music on
their smartphone, and an ad might pop up with their favorite artist s new song. The fan would most likely wonder
what is was and download it. Artists should continue to allow their music to be placed in advertisements because it
helps them earn money, and it can help them get recognized.
First, using ads can help the artist earn more money. Some artists only make U.S. minimum wage for their music,
so advertising and making corporate deals can really help. A band called Oh, Sleeper is an example. Out ... Show

Sometimes fans will feel betrayed when they see their favorite song in a burger commercial and instead of gaining
popularity the artist will actually lose it and get very strong negative feedback. Take U2 for example one of the
world s most popular rock bands who after, landing a deal with Apple that had their 2014 album Songs of
Innocence installed into 500 million iTunes subscribers libraries for free, faces a storm of negative feedback from
fans and critics alike. People resented the idea that an album they didn t ask for was forced on them, likening the
album to musical spam, and the reputations of both U2 and Apple were damaged. (Source 2 Paragraph 8)
Although doing this can hurt the reputation of artists it can help them as well. They can earn way more money, get
famous quickly and live a good life. It is a risk artists are willing to take because making music is their livelihood

Food Trucks Case Summary
1. How do food trucks affect local production possibilities curves for the restaurant meal industry? Explain your
answer and provide a correctly drawn and labelled production possibilities diagram to illustrate your explanation.
The food trucks affected the local production curves for the restaurant meal industry by drawing more customers
to their food truck meal industry. The more customers the food truck meal industry have, the lesser the restaurant s
customers would have. Therefore, the restaurant s customers would decrease as the food truck s customers
increases and the business will eventually fail. For example, if initially, the restaurant meal industry doesn t have a
competition with the food truck meal industry, they have 200 customers a day and 0 customers for the opponent.
And when Bobby started his food truck business, he drew 120 new customers to his new food truck that attracted
50 of the customers from the restaurant. Another food truck joined, and the customers increased to 170. The more
food trucks and the faster they evolve, the more customers would be attracted, consequently, 0 customers left for
the restaurant meal industry the business fails.
2. How has the proliferation of food trucks affected the supply of prepared meals and prices in local markets?
Explain your answer and provide a correctly drawn and labelled demand and supply diagram to illustrate your

Gopro And Contour Essay
In the action camera world, there are two big names: GoPro and Contour. In the last year, the action camera
market has exploded, marked by the proliferation of cheap action cams and, more recently, by the entrance of
major brands such as Sony. However, in the shadow of the big boys, there is a little known action camera that has
a big offering...
The Crocolis HD Action Camera
At $149.99, it significantly undercuts the competition in terms of price. The GoPro Hero 2 retails for $299 and the
Contour+ retails for $499.99. GoPro is the market leader for a reason. It offers superior picture quality and a
comprehensive line of accessories. The Contour offers advanced features, such as Wi Fi streaming, but comes at a
premium price tag. However, there is a compelling argument to be made for the Crocolis HD Action Camera. It
offers more features in a more complete stock package for half the price of the GoPro hero 2 and less than ...

Essay On Star Baseball Player
When teams commit large amounts of resources to a star player in the free agent market, they need to focus on
both the revenue that player generates and his salary. In order to address the question of estimating margin
revenue product, this paper will focus on a particular star baseball player and his additional impact on revenue.
The following paragraphs present an in depth explanation of the various possible proxies for revenue and the
selection criteria for the star player used in the research process. Measurements for revenue can stem from
multiple different sources, but the most direct and consistent proxy is attendance. Other data like television
contacts or merchandise sales are difficult to standardized and differentiate between players. At its true form,
when people go to a baseball game, they are looking for entertainment. Therefore, a star player should
theoretically generate more interest, leading to larger crowd at the ballpark. Furthermore, data on fan turnout can
be easily accessed on the website, Baseball Reference. By using attendance as a proxy, it allows for a direct and
feasible estimation of a star player s added revenue. Although teams can estimate marginal revenue productivity
for any player, this paper specifically examines starting pitchers and their effects on attendance. Unlike position
players, starting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Can Rotavirus Cause Disease
There are several known mechanisms by which rotavirus can cause disease. Rotaviruses, primarily infect mature
intestinal epithelial cells on the apices of the small intestinal villi. Destruction of infected cells and subsequent
development of villus atrophy reduces digestion and absorption of fluid and nutrients, resulting in secretory
diarrhea with loss of fluids and electrolytes into the intestinal lumen, which is explained by the transport of
electrolytes from the intestine is severely damaged, resulting in a high osmotic pressure, which subsequently
disrupts the absorption of water in the colon. Second, non structural protein 4 has been shown to act as an
enterotoxin secreted by rotavirus infected cells 34. Administration of non structural

Benefits Of Sociological Imagination
Sociological Imagination is defined as enables its possessor to understand the larger historical scene in terms of its
meaning for the inner life and the external career of a variety of individual in the reading by Garth Massey. This
meaning that it allows the individual to take accounts for all personal framework of experiences and also plays a
role in self consciousness. We are going to go over the benefits of sociological imagination, understand how it
plays a huge concept in the world we live in, and finally the relation sociological imagination play in suicide and
eating disorders. Benefits of sociological imagination are that Mills theory does provide us with a better
understanding of how people do communicate. There is a quote that says, we all go through the same experiences
but we each handle them differently. This quote I found to best explain the terms of Mills theory. An individual

Durkheim went into detail about three suicide types: anomic, altruistic, and egotistic. Anomic suicide makes
individuals feel lost or alone in society. For example teen suicide, the teen cannot relate to another individual.
Altruistic suicide is based on excessive regulations of individuals by social force. For example political or social
pressure makes and individual feel disconnected with society or themselves. Egotistic suicide is a total detachment
from society. He argues that suicide is a social factor. The social factors he argues are social surroundings and
whether the individual is integrated in social structure. He does state as well does Mills that men have a higher
rate of suicide than woman do. Mills believed that men were unable to make the connection between social and
individual life. Durkheim and Mills both have different perspectives however they both believed that our society

Chapter 3. Biological bases of mental life and behaviour
Task A. Answer the following five learning objectives [maximum 100 words per objective]
1. Explain the structure of neurons. How do neurons communicate with each other? How does the Endocrine
system communicate?
A neuron consists of a cell body, axon and dendrites. The cell body has a neuron, which is the control centre that
controls and regulates the activities of the neuron. The dendrites are extending in a branch formation, projecting
out from the cell body, which receives nerve impulses. The nerves travels down the axon until it reaches the
synapse, which are the gap between two neurons. The nerve impulse must be converted into a neurotransmitter to
be received by the other neuron triggering an electrical impulse.
With the endocrine system, messages are sent into the bloodstream by hormones, which amplify the signal to the
whole body. Only the cells with the correct receptors will activate.
2. Describe the Peripheral Nervous System and explain the two systems involved in work/exercise and rest.
The peripheral nervous system consists of nerves that branch out from the brain and the spinal cord. It has two
components, the somatic nervous system and the autonomic nervous system. The somatic nervous system is made
up of nerves that connect to voluntary skeletal muscles and to sensory

Static Stretching Research Paper
Stretching and holding a muscle in an elongated position for an extended period is called static stretching, the
amount of time of each stretch can vary but is usually between 20 60 seconds. The muscle is typically stretched to
its end range based on the patient s sensory response. This type of stretch can be performed actively or passively
and is generally repeated four to five times on each side. Static stretching is effective for increasing flexibility and
has a low risk of exceeding the extensibility limits of a joint. Because static stretching involves a slow and
controlled movement, the patient maintains control and reduces the risk of soft tissue tearing.
Static stretching can be used in a physical therapy clinic depending on a patient s

Pit And The Pendulum Irony
The Pit and the Pendulum The Pit and the Pendulum , is a short story written by Edgar Allan Poe in 1842,
describing a person in the most dire of situations, awaiting death in a pit. The story is set during the time of the
Spanish Inquisition, where the narrator has been sentenced to live in a pit and await death. During this time he
continually wonders what will happen to him, until looking up, awaking from a drug induced sleep, he sees a
swinging scythe, positioned directly over his heart, dropping at a crawling rate. The narrator barely escapes the
pendulum, then runs and almost falls into the pit, before being saved by a French General. Although there are both
instances of physical and psychological torture in the story, the psychological ... Show more content on

I gasped and struggled at each vibration. I shrunk convulsively at its every sweep. My eyes followed its outward
or upward whirls with the eagerness of the most unmeaning despair; they closed themselves spasmodically at the
descent, although death would have been a relief, oh! how unspeakable! (Poe 27). All the narrator can do is wait
for his death, and his wait allowed him time to think. His thoughts wandered, beginning to lean on the possibility
of escape, and that frustrated him because he knew hope was lost. Hope was lost, until a last resort plan arrived in
his thoughts; to coat the rope in food so the rats would chew through it, and allow him time to escape from the
swinging scythe of death. His plan prevailed, and he escaped, only to be confronted by the pit again, by the
quickly enclosing room, but this time the narrator was saved by the French General Lasalle. His torture was over,
just as the inquisition was over. Throughout the Pit and the Pendulum, Poe uses various symbols of psychological
torture to create fear and hopelessness in the narrator, which is achieved through two main symbols of the pit and

the Branch Chiefs. These have specific territories to manage which is normally a function to the military bases
and/or operations that are occurring.
The Customer side has the same organizational structure as the supplier side, however, its core responsibility is to

orders, expediting orders, new products requests, etc. Their geographical territories do not necessary replicate or

Purchasing requests (PR s), Quality Notes (QN s), Supply Discrepancy Reports (SDR s), management of supplies,

Queen Elizabeth Impact
Queen Elizabeth I left a great and lasting impact on the country of England. She became queen at twenty five
years old in 1558 and reigned successfully from November 17, 1558 to March 24, 1603, a total of forty four years.
Elizabeth was born at Greenwich Palace in England to King Henry VII and Anne Boleyn on September 7th, 1533.
Less than three years later, Anne Boleyn was arrested, charged, and executed because she could not bear Henry a
son. Twelve days later, Henry married Jane Seymour, and she gave birth to Prince Edward, the long awaited male

involved in several plots to kill Elizabeth, so she was imprisoned in 1567. Despite her attempts to remove
Elizabeth from the throne, she was executed in 1587 after being in prison for almost twenty years.
Many suitors were available to Elizabeth, but she chose not to marry and had no interest in sharing her power with
a husband. This earned her the nickname the Virgin Queen. She built herself up as a queen married to her people.
Even though she worked hard, Elizabeth loved the arts. She enjoyed music, watching plays, and dancing. Many
artists painted her portrait, and these paintings show that she loved clothing and jewelry. Elizabeth also wore
makeup to help her look extremely pale. This makeup unfortunately contained white lead and vinegar, which most
likely caused her health problems.
Toward the end of Elizabeth s reign, England faced many struggles such as unemployment and inflation. Because
of failed crops and food shortages, there were riots and rebellions. Elizabeth sent the Earl of Essex, Robert
Devereaux, to squash rebellions in Ireland, but instead started his own rebellion which caused him to be executed

Characteristics of a Hero Essay
Characteristics of a Hero A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself
(Campbell 1). When we think of heroes most of us think of movie stars or professional athletes, but it s not always
about your popularity or talent it can also be about how you help society. What I think make a great hero is
someone who is able to overcome his or her obstacles in life, is highly motivated, and has plenty of bravery.
Overcoming obstacles may be one of the hardest parts of being a hero. I think it s the hardest because a lot of
people are blocked from doing something and just quit. A great example of this trait is Jackie Robinson. He was
discriminated against because he was African American. Even though ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order to be a successful hero you must be a highly motivated person. Without motivation you would not be very
successful because you would have no ambition to try and make a difference in the world. I think Rodney
Dangerfield is a great example of this because he started he career at just 15 and he died while he was in the
middle of a movie. Also when his wife tried to make him quit he just blew their many years of happiness and
divorced her. In one of his quotes he stated, At twenty a man is full of fight and hope. He wants to reform the
world. When he s seventy he still wants to reform the world (Dangerfield 3). Bravery is a great trait for a hero to
posses. I think bravery is a key quality because you don t always know what lies ahead of you and you have to be
brave to continue. A good example of this is Charles Lindburgh. He was the first person to fly across the Atlantic
Ocean. I believe that took a great amount of bravery because no one had ever made it across, so he didn t know
what lie ahead of him. One of his many good quotes he said, The most effective way to do it, is to just do it ,
(Lindburgh 1). So as you may see overcoming obstacles, being motivated and being outstandingly brave is key to
becoming a great hero.Like overcoming obstacles was very hard for

The lack of consumer confidence in the United States was partially due to the misrepresentation of video games

  • 2. The Influential Typeface Helvetica The influential typeface Helvetica, a neo grotesque1 sans serif type design, came into being in the early 1950s after the Second World War. The expectation of the designers, Edouard Hoffman and Max Miedinger was to create a neutral typeface that had great clarity, no intrinsic meaning in its form and could be used on a wide variety of signage to remake a new identity apart from the past (). Originally named as Neue Haas Grotesk, the typeface was changed to Helvetica in 1960. Today, Helvetica, as an aesthetics constant, although not perfect, mastered the quantum leap in 1957 from metal type to the digital age of word processing. Axel Langer, a curator of Islamic Near Eastern Art, mentioned it as an impersonal typeface for today and tomorrow (). Analysis: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The original design was released by Linotype in 1957. Since its launch, the typeface had been worked on by a variety of designers to adapt it for successive methods of composition, from hot metal to photocomposition to digital. Given the technical limitations of methods, the character weights, widths and spacing were inconsistent and compromised. Neue Helvetica, as the outcome of technological changes, was designed in 1983, represents a synthesis of aesthetics and technical refinements and modifications that resulted in improved usefulness: a number of characters were subtly changed to be more consistent and more harmonious with the overall design characteristics. For instance, the x height has been adjusted to appear visually the same in all weights. The x heights in previous versions were all the same, but since type tends to look shorter as it gets heavier, the new x heights compensate for this optical illusion. Besides, the crossbars on the lowercase f and t were widened to increase the legibility in text. Additionally, the Neue Helvetica family was extended to 51 weights in all, which are many more than in the original ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Summary Of The Book The Kitchen Window And My Home... Liesel is looking out of the kitchen window in her home at 33 Himmel Street, hoping that something exciting would happen on that currently drab day. Suddenly, a creature swoops down from the sky, landing in front of her house. It s probably just a bird, Liesel thinks. The supposed bird then stands up bipedal. The bird was not a bird at all. It was a HUMAN. Liesel s eyes widen and she crouches underneath the window, trying to recollect her thoughts. A human just fell from the sky. That s only something I ve read about in fantasy novels. Then, how is this happening? She peeks over the windowsill to get a better look at the different person with her light blue orbs. She nearly jumps back in shock. The person, whom Liesel can now tell is a teenage girl, is looking right back at her with her dark brown eyes. The teenager smiles gently, knocking on the window. Lisel gulps, stands up straight and walks over to the door to meet the stranger. She opens the door, now coming face to face with the dirty blonde haired girl. The girl looks normal...except for the fact that she has white spotted wings coming out of her back. Liesel stammers. U Um...who are you, exactly? The other girl smiles. My name s Maximum, but, you can call me Max. Sorry about scaring you at the window earlier. I just wanted to see if anyone lived here. Liesel smiles slightly. It s okay. My names Liesel, but...I m just curious...how did you get those wings? I thought that was just fictitious. Max sighs. I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Definition Essay On Heaven A common religious, cosmological, or transcendent place where beings such as gods, angels, jinn, saints, or venerated ancestors are said to originate, be enthroned, or to live, this is the wikipedia definition of heaven. Although heaven is used often in daily conversation, many of people who use the word do not truly understand the meaning of the word to Christians. As people go throughout their lives they will commonly say This is like heaven on earth, however, they have no idea what heaven s glory truly is. In fact, Christians have assurance that Jesus and his Father care about their children and will have a wonderful home that we can live in for eternal life. Examples Of Implicit Personality Theory Implicit Personality Theory Dunning (2007) says that implicit personality theory is the idea that if a person displays one characteristic, they are likely to have other characteristics associated with the displayed characteristic. Two types of implicit personality theory Dunning (2007) focused on were the halo effect; if someone exhibits positive attributes, additional positive attributes will be attributed to them by the perceiver and vice versa, and attractive people are ascribed more positive attributes by others, regardless of behavior. • 6. Cataract Surgery Definition A cataract is defined as an opacity of the lens of the eye that causes partial or total blindness. The word is derived from the Latin cataracta , which means waterfall. To the eye of an observer, the foamy white opacity of an advanced cataract resembles that of the turbulent water of a waterfall. (Chang, Cataracts Definition, 2014) Etiology The lens is a naturally clear, transparent, and avascular structure located behind the iris. Light passes through the transparent lens to the retina to produce clear, sharp images on the retina. The lens is made mostly of water and protein fibers. Rabbit Proof Fence Analysis The film, Rabbit Proof Fence, is directed by Phillip Noyce, and it is a film about three young Aboriginal half caste girls (Molly, Daisy, and Gracie) who were forcibly taken away from their families and taken to the camp at Moore River Native Settlement to be taught to become servants. A couple of days after arriving at Moore River Settlement, the girls run away from the camp and go through a terrible journey of one thousand five hundred miles trying to find their way back to their family. An Aboriginal tracker, Moodoo is called to find them. The girls cover their tracks and avoid Moodoo, getting help from village people. She pretty clever girl. She wants to go home. They experienced fears and doubts along the way to Australia to make it back to their family. Throughout the film, Noyce uses many effective film techniques to analyze the emotions and characteristics of important individuals to show specific scenes such as camera angles, lighting, filters, and dialogue. Camera angles are used in the film to expand the size and control of important characters. Phillip Noyce set angles of the camera onto the characters to appear stronger, and an example is when a low shot appeared of Mr. Neville at the beginning of the film, he is controlling the removal of the Aboriginal girls from Jigalong. As you know, every Aborigine born in this state comes under my control. Noyce has set Mr. Neville as the Chief Protector of Aborigines and the antagonist in the film. Since he has control, he is the leader, and needs to appear larger than everyone else. He became strict and fearful. Later in the film, when the girls run away from the settlement, the camera angles of him became higher. Noyce has purposely set angles to show Mr. Neville losing control of the girls; therefore, he is powerless and exposed. Another example is in the scene where they were being taken away, the camera shot was a close up to show the facial expression of the characters. The camera angle for this view is with an eye to eye level to explain reality. This helps the audience to better determine, by using camera angles, the importance of each character in the film. Phillip uses tricks on the angles to let the audience think that character appears ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In order to understand the pervasive practice of nonviolence in Hinduism, one must investigate the meaning of life. Why is life sacred? For India s ancient thinkers, life is seen as the very stuff of the Divine, an emanation of the Source and part of a cosmic continuum. The nature of this continuum varies in Hindu thought. Some hold that the individual evolves up through life forms, taking more and more advanced incarnations which culminate in human life. Others believe that according to one s karma and samskaras, the process can even be reversed, that is, one can achieve a lower birth. Even those Indians who do not believe in reincarnation of an individual still hold that all that exists abides in the Divine. He ridiculed their deities as gods created in the image of the mortals who worshiped them. In a famous passage he asserted that if oxen could paint and sculpt, they would depict gods who resembled oxen. He felt that humans should reject polytheistic ascribing of human motivation and characteristics to inanimate objects, animals, and phenomena and recognize instead a single non human deity underlying and unifying all worldly phenomena. 117 A parallel to Xenophanes philosophy is that which was expressed by Gorgias, a famous Sophist. Anomic suicide makes individuals feel lost or alone in society. For example teen suicide, the teen cannot relate to another individual. Altruistic suicide is based on excessive regulations of individuals by social force. For example political or social pressure makes and individual feel disconnected with society or themselves. Egotistic suicide is a total detachment from society. He argues that suicide is a social factor. The social factors he argues are social surroundings and whether the individual is integrated in social structure. He does state as well does Mills that men have a higher rate of suicide than woman do. Mills believed that men were unable to make the connection between social and individual life. • 28. Biological Bases Of Mental Life And Behavior BESC1490 Introduction to Psychology Week 3 Biological Bases of Mental Life and Behaviour Learning objectives Set Reading: Chapter 3. Biological bases of mental life and behaviour Task A. Answer the following five learning objectives [maximum 100 words per objective] 1. Explain the structure of neurons. How do neurons communicate with each other? How does the Endocrine system communicate? A neuron consists of a cell body, axon and dendrites. The cell body has a neuron, which is the control centre that controls and regulates the activities of the neuron. The dendrites are extending in a branch formation, projecting out from the cell body, which receives nerve impulses. The nerves travels down the axon until it reaches the synapse, which are the gap between two neurons. The nerve impulse must be converted into a neurotransmitter to be received by the other neuron triggering an electrical impulse. With the endocrine system, messages are sent into the bloodstream by hormones, which amplify the signal to the whole body. Only the cells with the correct receptors will activate. 2. Describe the Peripheral Nervous System and explain the two systems involved in work/exercise and rest. The peripheral nervous system consists of nerves that branch out from the brain and the spinal cord. It has two components, the somatic nervous system and the autonomic nervous system. The somatic nervous system is made up of nerves that connect to voluntary skeletal muscles and to sensory ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Static Stretching Research Paper Stretching and holding a muscle in an elongated position for an extended period is called static stretching, the amount of time of each stretch can vary but is usually between 20 60 seconds. The muscle is typically stretched to its end range based on the patient s sensory response. This type of stretch can be performed actively or passively and is generally repeated four to five times on each side. Static stretching is effective for increasing flexibility and has a low risk of exceeding the extensibility limits of a joint. Pit And The Pendulum Irony The Pit and the Pendulum The Pit and the Pendulum , is a short story written by Edgar Allan Poe in 1842, describing a person in the most dire of situations, awaiting death in a pit. The story is set during the time of the Spanish Inquisition, where the narrator has been sentenced to live in a pit and await death. During this time he continually wonders what will happen to him, until looking up, awaking from a drug induced sleep, he sees a swinging scythe, positioned directly over his heart, dropping at a crawling rate. The narrator barely escapes the pendulum, then runs and almost falls into the pit, before being saved by a French General. Although there are both instances of physical and psychological torture in the story, the psychological ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I gasped and struggled at each vibration. I shrunk convulsively at its every sweep. My eyes followed its outward or upward whirls with the eagerness of the most unmeaning despair; they closed themselves spasmodically at the descent, although death would have been a relief, oh! how unspeakable! (Poe 27). All the narrator can do is wait for his death, and his wait allowed him time to think. His thoughts wandered, beginning to lean on the possibility of escape, and that frustrated him because he knew hope was lost. Hope was lost, until a last resort plan arrived in his thoughts; to coat the rope in food so the rats would chew through it, and allow him time to escape from the swinging scythe of death. His plan prevailed, and he escaped, only to be confronted by the pit again, by the quickly enclosing room, but this time the narrator was saved by the French General Lasalle. His torture was over, just as the inquisition was over. Throughout the Pit and the Pendulum, Poe uses various symbols of psychological torture to create fear and hopelessness in the narrator, which is achieved through two main symbols of the pit and the ... Many artists painted her portrait, and these paintings show that she loved clothing and jewelry. Elizabeth also wore makeup to help her look extremely pale. This makeup unfortunately contained white lead and vinegar, which most likely caused her health problems. Toward the end of Elizabeth s reign, England faced many struggles such as unemployment and inflation. Because of failed crops and food shortages, there were riots and rebellions. • 36. Characteristics of a Hero Essay Characteristics of a Hero A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself (Campbell 1). When we think of heroes most of us think of movie stars or professional athletes, but it s not always about your popularity or talent it can also be about how you help society. What I think make a great hero is someone who is able to overcome his or her obstacles in life, is highly motivated, and has plenty of bravery. Overcoming obstacles may be one of the hardest parts of being a hero. I think it s the hardest because a lot of people are blocked from doing something and just quit. In order to be a successful hero you must be a highly motivated person. Without motivation you would not be very successful because you would have no ambition to try and make a difference in the world. I think Rodney Dangerfield is a great example of this because he started he career at just 15 and he died while he was in the middle of a movie. Also when his wife tried to make him quit he just blew their many years of happiness and divorced her. In one of his quotes he stated, At twenty a man is full of fight and hope. He wants to reform the world. When he s seventy he still wants to reform the world (Dangerfield 3). Bravery is a great trait for a hero to posses. I think bravery is a key quality because you don t always know what lies ahead of you and you have to be brave to continue. A good example of this is Charles Lindburgh. He was the first person to fly across the Atlantic Ocean. I believe that took a great amount of bravery because no one had ever made it across, so he didn t know what lie ahead of him. One of his many good quotes he said, The most effective way to do it, is to just do it , (Lindburgh 1). So as you may see overcoming obstacles, being motivated and being outstandingly brave is key to becoming a great hero.Like overcoming obstacles was very hard for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the early 1980 s, American consumers typically associated video games with low quality products. The first Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) was launched in Japan in 1983 and in response to the United States negative feelings towards gaming, was released to U.S. consumers in 1985. In order to effectively penetrate the American gaming market place, it required a well thought out marketing plan that would differentiate Nintendo s product from the previous video games that had disappointed Americans so much.
