2. APPEARANCE
·The arctic fox is dark gray to brown in
the summer. In the winter, its fur is white
or creamy white. It has a long bushy tail,
a short nose, and small curled back ears.
It has short, stubby legs and thick fur.
3. HABITAT AND HOME FACTS
·Arctic foxes live in Arctic and alpine
tundra, in coastal areas, on ice floes, and
north of the tree line.
·In the winter, they can make warm homes
in icy snow banks.
·They move their den throughout the year
because they travel to find food.
4. FOOD
·Arctic foxes are omnivores and so eat
both animals and plants. Lemmings and
white geese are part of their staple diet.
A part of these, they eat a collection of
fruits, eggs of birds, marine animals,
and invertebrates.
5. LIFE CYCLE SPECIAL ADAPTATIONS
The Arctic Fox has many unique
adaptations. For example, it’s white,
thick, fur and fluffy tail help it survive
in its harsh habitat.
The Arctic Fox has is their small
pointy ears that help them hear prey
moving underground.
6. WHY IT HAS BECOME AN ENDANGERED
ANIMAL?
Most of the reasons that arctic foxes
are endangered in certain areas can
be traced back to climate change.
These include changes in prey, habitat
loss, melting sea ice, and more
predators.
7. WHAT IS BEING DONE OR CAN BE DONE TO
PRESERVE IT?
So WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature) began
providing supplementary food at dens to help
the pups survive. But we also decided to
provide food all year round at some feeding
stations to ensure that some Arctic fox pairs
breed every year, even when lemmings are in
short supply.
