Refugee Challenges For Refugees
The current refugee scene is facing many complications. The challenges these individuals face
while moving to a new country has encouraged us to focus our project on providing refugees with
the assistance they need to succeed. Exploring different areas such as connections and services
through an interview process has given us a better insight into what path to take to better
accommodate refugees with the challenges in their current country. When conducting interviews
our group kept in mind the practicality of the refugee s situation. Since for many individuals, this
time in their lives is emotional we decided to reach out to the individuals that help refugees.
When deciding who to contact for interviews we kept all our options open, communicating with
immigration officers, program managers, University of Waterloo volunteers and teachers etc.
First, we created a target list of many individuals that we were interested to hear from. Our first
point of contact was email, with some participants they emailed their answers to us, however
with others they preferred to communicate through the phone. In the end, all of the interviews we
collected were completed through phone calls and emails. Our project is based around a
relatively touchy subject because in many cases, refugees have been forced from their country for
their own safety. If people ask how life was like before and what made them leave their home, they
may feel uncomfortable and out of place like the new kid on the

Human Organ Market Essay
Economic Analysis of a Human Organ Market Human organs have been transplanted for many
years. There are currently 123,940 people waiting for an organ in order to get their transplant. Of
that vast number, around 18 people die each day waiting for an organ ( Why Organ, Eye, and
Tissue Donation? n.d.). There has been some issues with human organ transplants whether it is
ethical or not. Another view on transplantation is to create a market for organs. With the increasing
number of people in search for an organ in order to save their life, the demand for human organs is
on the rise. As with any economic and ethical debate there are two viewpoints on this issue.
Proponents believe that it will eliminate the black market of human organ... Show more content on

When it is unknown whether the person was a donor, the next of kin could make the decision to
donate the deceased organs (Hansmann, n.d.). This act did not specify if the organs were subject to
sales however. The chairman of the committee involved in drafting the UAGA stated,
... it is possible, of course, that abuses may occur if payment could customarily be demanded, but
every payment is not necessarily unethical... Until the matter of payment becomes a problem of
some dimensions, the matter should be left to the decency of intelligent human beings (Hansmann,
n.d.).
The sales of organs remained uncertain until in 1984 when the National Organ Transplant Act
(NOTA) was established. The act established federal monetary support for nonprofit organ
attaining organizations and national organ and transplantation network to assist in matching
recipients with donors. NOTA also made commercial markets for organ transplants a federal
crime, and states also made different statues of their own outlawing sales of organs. As a result,
an effort to create a human organ market would require a repeal of amendment of legislation at
both the state and federal levels (Hansmann, n.d.). The ban of sale from this act was to encourage
altruism to benefit others by becoming a donor instead of being forced to become a donor.
As stated above, it has been a difficult process to make the provisions of transplantation clear and

Analysis Of Victor s The Of A Demon Hunter
Victor Vran is a demon infested isometric shooter taking place during the Victorian period. The
protagonist is Victor Vran a demon hunter located in the city of Zagoravia. As the demon infestation
gets worse our demon hunters grow thin. Victor, while unclear of his motives, makes it clear that he
needs to help the city. Unfortunately, Victor is harassed by a voice in his head that has ulterior
motives.
Victor Vans story is satisfying to say the least. I d consider it novel. The plot unfolds well with
fantastic writing, character development, and composition. The city of Zagarovia provides us as a
safe haven for trade while a world map offers us the ability to jump to and from locations.
The game offered an excellent tutorial to teach the player the controls I enjoy a game that can
mask the tutorial with a great story. For example, Victor Vran enters the Fallen Keep on his way
to Castle Zagore and runs into what seems like a deteriorated guards training room; they use this
opportunity to refine the relationship between Victor and the voice in his head. You can also see
the games sense of humor parallel to the how to s .
The gameplay is tightly knitted to mesh well with any play style. It also offers a nice variety of
unconventional weapons, Scythes, shotguns, and swords decorated with interesting names all with
variable stats. Each weapon has one attack and two special attacks while having the ability to
possess one demon attack that you can find and equip throughout

Woodland Caribou Research Paper
The woodland caribou are in trouble all across Alberta; from a population of 7000 9000, there
are approximately 3000 animals left! At our period of time, the woodland caribou are listed
under threatened and under the Species at Risk Act . These animals need to be protected, or as a
result extinction of the caribou is certain. The boreal forest is a spacious and safe habitat where
the woodland caribou can find necessary items for them to not only survive, but to thrive. As a
result of the rapidly decreasing caribou population our forests are also suffering. The caribou take
care of the forests and because of this, our forests are able to provide us with several mandatory
supplies. If the woodland caribou population decrease, the result is that the forests will not be able
to sequester the carbon, regulate the climate, and mitigate against floods.Where the woodland
caribou still survive, our boreal forests are intact and healthy. Where they ve disappeared, the
forests are fragmented and the ecosystem is stressed.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Work And Contribution Of Anna Freud
Women have played a very important role in the development of psychology, though they are not
recognized as major contributors. In this paper we are going to be focusing on the works and
contribution of Anna Freud. She is known for her construction of child psychoanalysis theory and
her interpretation of child psychology. Anna Freud (1895 1982) is famous as being involved in the
foundation of the child psychoanalytic movement. She was the youngest of Freud s children and
the only one to whose life was devoted to psychoanalysis. Her development of child
psychoanalysis has been greatly noted in the history of psychology. Anna Freud kept the basic
ideas that her father developed. However, her interest laid in the psyche and how it was
constructed. She also took interest in the where the ego stood in the structure of the psyche. She
saw the ego as the seat of observation ; it is from the ego that we can clearly see how the... Show

Child analysis is also difficult because their symbolic activities are of a lower standard than adults.
Emotional difficulties are extensive in young children; the older children have great problem in
disguising their problems with the use of symbols. Thus, they express their feelings more direct as
they are closer to the surface in comparison to adults.
She also had a major impact in Freudian psychological research. She is responsible for the
standardization of records for children with diagnostic profiles, pushed for the development of
children from childhood to adolescence to be studied longitudinal, and encouraged the use of
multiple analysts when it comes to observations. Anna Freud also paved the way for natural
experiments to be used in the analysis of children who had similar disabilities (e.g. early traumas,

The Use of Coal as an Energy Source in the United States...
Energy from Coal: The Nation s Dirty Secret
Abstract
While technology has led the world into such an advanced setting with intelligent machinery and
automated devices, coal has remained a loyal contributor of the energy needed by these various
types of equipment to function properly. Almost half of the electricity in the United States is
produced in coal plants where coal is burnt to produce this energy [1]. Both beneficial and
detrimental factors come with this alternative source of energy, known by the world for centuries.
Background Information
Even with the quantity of fossil fuels dwindling due to human consumption, coal has remained one
of the cheapest, reliable sources of electricity, natural gas, diesel fuel, and steel ... Show more

But there are also many detrimental factors as well, since the production of coal results in air
pollution, sulfur dioxide emission, carbon dioxide emission, acid rain, and hazardous waste [4].
These environmental problems are due to both the mining of coal and coal production plants.
Many issues arise with the mining of coal. Firstly, the safety of miners is put at risk as they
descend hundreds of feet below the surface of the Earth. After many years in this field of work,
many miners develop black lung because of inhaling the coal extensively. Secondly, the extraction
of coal is very costly due to the machinery needed along with the transportation of the coal after it
has been mined to the various factories that are able to extract the sulfur impurities in coal and burn
the coal for energy [5]. New methods have been developed to help with some of the issues relating
to coal production. To rid the surrounding environment of toxic pollution, emission scrubbing
technology has been installed into coal plants. This is approximately 90% to 95% affective in
eliminating the mercury, sulfur, and nitrogen emissions [6]. As for the deep mining issues, there is
another method to retrieve coal from the Earth, removing the entire mountain tops covering a
reserve of coal beneath. Although this

A Community Of Nobodies Of The Modern World
It is dangerous that we lose our bearings as we struggle at and with margins and marginalized
people, and they are often forgotten in our lives (EG #54). They are addicts, victims of the ism, the
throwaways of the modern world (refugees, migrants, and survivors of war), handicapped, and
challenged disabilities. They form a community of nobodies and Jesusis among them. As authentic
disciples, we should question ourselves that where their places are in our ministry. What are
locking our sight and our mind to see and reach them?
Being with, converting to, working from, and serving at the margins are what Jesus did to enter
deeper into human world. From divine to human, from human to stranger, and from stranger to
obedient death, and from suffering to glory, Jesus became incarnate among us as both humanly
divine and divinely human. He shows us the possibility of conversion from ethnocentrism, a
transformation from monocultural orientations to intercultural orientation. In other words, such
conversion is the facility to move from one s own worldview to that of another. Certainly, we must
agree that to be marginal persons in ministry, we need the qualities such as faithfulness, trust,
respect, listening, openness, and acceptance. Although ethnocentrism is like a shadow, it does not
become a stumbling block if we carefully enter the world of others. Then, we trust in the work of
the Holy Spirit for our conversion towards intercuturality.

Abortions Should Be Illegal In The United States

L.A.
Abortions should be illegal in the United States. Abortions have been occurring since the 1800`s.
They were banned in the 1880 s except to save the life of the women. However, the Supreme Court
ruled in 1973, in the case Roe vs Wade that abortion is legal in the first trimester. I disagree with
this ruling because it is morally wrong. Secondly, every human being must be responsible for their
actions. Lastly, there are many options available to prevent becoming a parent. We have to right to
decide when we want to become a parent, but not if it involves terminating another human life.
Human life begins at conception and so abortion is murder. God created every human being in his

Perinatal Mental Health Midwife
Application for Temporary perinatal health midwife
There is increasing awareness of perinatal mental health as a public health issue. The Government
is keen for midwives to further develop their role in public health. Midwives need to be adequately
prepared to take on a more developed role in perinatal mental health if practice improvements are to
be made. I am aware that death from psychiatric causes has been the leading cause of maternal
death for the last few years. Although the most recent Confidential Enquiry into Maternal and Child
Health indicated that this is no longer a leading cause, mental health problems before and after
childbirth have a significant impact on the health of women, family relationships and children s

postnatal care present an excellent opportunity to screen the mental health of pregnant women
and women with a new baby. To do this effectively however, requires working more
collaboratively across different professions to meet the needs of our patients. Having the post of a
specialist midwife in mental health could allow me to provide focused care to pregnant women
with mental illness. This could include co morbid substance alcohol misuse problems. I envisage
the role as working closely with a perinatal psychiatry team at W.M.U.H and as an important point

obstetricians, health visitors, child and family social services, obstetricians in the hospital, and

Taking a Look at Poliomyelitis
Polio which may also be called poliomyelitis is a viral disease that can be spread or transmitted
from individual to individual mainly through the fecal oral route. The word polio is of Greek
origin polios meaning grey and myelos meaning marrow which refers to the grey particle of the
spinal cord. It is noted that about 90% of polio infections are asymptomatic but affected patients
can show an amount of if the virus enters their blood circulation. In rare cases, the virus can enter
the central nervous system which could lead to the destruction of some motor neurons which
automatically causes muscle weakness and possible flaccid paralysis. Polio may occur in three
different forms: Spinal polio: this is the most commonly noted form of polio characterized by
paralysis most often involves the lower limbs (legs). Bulbar polio: this kind of polio could be
very severe and can lead to muscle weakness (muscles innervated by the cranial nerves).
Bulbospinal polio: this is the combination of spinal and bulbar paralysis. HISTORY Polio was
first discovered as a coition by Jakob Heine in 1840. The virus known to cause this disease or
infection is the POLIOVIRUS which was first noticed in 1908 by Karl Landsteiner. Major polio
epidemics started to appear in the late 19th century in Europe. Polio soon became one of the most
occurring childhood diseases in the 20th century. Proper hygiene and sanitation decreased the
prevalence of this disease in young children which are likely to

Essay On Congo Genocide
In the past, many incidents of genocide have occurred, like the Armenian genocide or the Rwandan
genocide. While these incidents may seem unrelated to current times, similar incidents are starting
to occur in many parts of the world and one such place is Congo. Many sources hint that the
conflict that occurs in Congo is a genocide because many elements of genocide appear in the
conflict like classification or dehumanization. While what they say has some truth in the sense that
this conflict contains some element of genocide but, not enough elements are present to make it a
genocide. Although many would believe that the conflict in Congo is a genocide, there is evidence
of the conflict being a territorial and power dispute because some countries invading Congo want
the resources, others want power, and the cause of the conflict in Congo is the aftermath of the
Rwandan genocide. First of all, the conflict in Congo is a territorial dispute because sources
mention that the people invading want access to Congo s plentiful resources.... Show more content

An Definition Of Domestic Violence Essay
The definition of domestic violence, or intimate partner violence, is a multiple or single incidence
of abusive behavior that uses oppression, threats, isolation, and fear that often results in
psychological and/or emotional trauma. Intimate partner violence is not a specific gender issue; a
common assumption is that victims of abusive relationships are only women, which is a false
belief. According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, 1 in 4 men have experience
some type of psychological and/or physical violence by their partner (2014). Partner abuse, or
domestic violence is a big social problem in the United States. Alone in Texas, the NCADV
reported that there were 76,704 victims of abuse by current or former spouses. They also
reported 114 Texan women were killed by their partners. This is more than 10% of the national
total (2015). No matter the age, gender or race, everyone is exposed to this threat. A recent report
by the NCADV also reveals that 75% of Texans ranging from 16 to 24 year olds have experienced
violence by their partners, or know someone (2015). This is definitely a scary high number. Another
common assumption is that it is only the victims the ones who suffer. This is not exactly true. Child
AbuseNeglect written by Stephanie Holt, Helen Buckley and Sadhbh finds that, children and
adolescents living with domestic violence are at increased risk of experiencing emotional, physical
and sexual abuse, of developing emotional and behavioral

The Tao-te Ching by Lao-Tzu and The Prince by Machiavelli...
The Tao te Ching by Lao Tzu and The Prince by Machiavelli
Throughout history, it can be argued that at the core of the majority of successful societies has
stood an effective allocation of leadership. Accordingly, in their respective works The Tao te Ching
and The Prince , Lao Tzu and Machiavelli have sought to reach a more complete understanding of
this relationship. The theme of political leaders and their intricate relationship with society indeed
manifests itself within both texts, however, both Lao Tzu and Machiavelli approach this issue from
almost entirely opposite positions. Lao Tzu appears to focus the majority of his attention on letting
problems or situations take their course and allowing good to prevail. On the ... Show more content

Perhaps in his time Lao Tzu viewed that his interpretation of human nature was entirely possible,
but as far as the twenty first century is involved, the idea that if societies are left unattended we
are able to Trust them (В§ 75, 59) is absurd. It can be argued legitimately that Lao Tzu s concepts
have been applied and in fact have proven to be extremely effective. For example, a capitalistic,
laissez faire approach to governing, particularly the form advocated by American Republicans.
However, cases of removing regulations and adopting the leadership standards Lao Tzu advises
have been strictly applied to market economics, not to each and every facet of government.
Refraining from absolute negativity about Lao Tzu s work, the Tao does have many redeemable
qualities. The emphasis Lao Tzu places on the attainment of individual happiness is extremely
honorable, however this doesn t detract from the ineffectiveness Lao Tzu encounters, as he is
unable to come to well grounded conclusion on the means for effective leadership. His advice to
politicians is to only interfere when it is an absolute necessity; yet he takes this to a radical extreme
advising leaders to pretty much do nothing. His ideas are taken to an extent where if human nature

Cuba Juice Essay
Introduction
Juicing is a great way to integrate fruits and vegetables into your diet, especially if you do not
like to eat whole fruits and vegetables. It can help you meet the daily recommendations for these
foods as well as allow you to consume a wide variety of fruits and vegetables in a tasty way. Juicing
is usually done with a machine which turns raw fruits and vegetables into liquid and pulp. The
machine chops the fruits and vegetables into tiny pieces and spins them, separating the juice from
the pulp.
History
Even before juicers were invented fruits were mashed. Text from the Dead Sea Scrolls, A pounded

Professional Juicing
The final juicer we reviewed was targeted toward the experienced consumer. Rather than a high
speed centrifugal juicer, our last review consisted of a masticating juicer. It differs than that of the
centrifugal juicer by using a single auger to compact and squeeze the fruit s juice along a static

Distracted Driving Argument Paper
Abstract
Advancing technology in wireless communications is presenting a growing concern for
distracted driving due to using cell phones and other electronic devices while driving. Although
distracted driving accidents and fatalities have risen in the last decade, placing a ban on the use
of a cell phone or other electronic devices while operating a motor vehicle as some states have
will not resolve the issue. In fact a ban on cell phones and driving may very well increase the

Visual distraction of this nature is anything that requires the driver to take his or her eyes away
from the road. Manual distraction involves the driver removing his or her hands from the steering
wheel. Cognitive distraction forces the driver to think about something other than driving safely
(Goldfarb, 2010). These skills are critical when safely operating a motor vehicle that requires
concentration, coordination, and prompt, immediate responses to sensory input.
Studies conducted from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the
AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety shows that using a cell phone while driving significantly
impairs a driver s reaction time and triples the risk of being involved in a crash or near crash, and
text messaging increases crash risk by a multiple of 8 for all ages (NHTSA, 2009). Situational
awareness is significantly decreased while engaging in distracted driving, and in turn inattention
blindness is increased drastically creating a potentially deadly situation on the roads. A driver who
is multitasking has less brain function available and thus literally fails to see or pay attention to
things that are squarely in the field of vision (Texting and Driving, 2010). On the other hand there

Green Eggs and Ham is a short fiction story by the legendary children s book author Dr. Seuss in

Homelessness And The Homeless Community
We have all seen it before. The man sitting on the cold street possessing only a few rudimentary
goods while begging for food or the woman holding her child s hand while asking for spare
change. Some people saunter by these downtrodden individuals unconcerned, while others give
them sympathetic looks and drop a few coins in their cups. We are aware of homelessness, almost
too aware and yet we go on with our lives without further regard. Homelessness has become such
an epidemic in the United States that it is normal and practically expected to be seen in our urban
streets. Homelessness is defined by the Merriam Webster dictionary as, Having no home or
permanent residence. While that is true, there are many other dynamics that come into play with
this social problem. Without proper housing, the homeless community is more susceptible to
violence, disease, weather conditions, hunger and ultimately death. We all recognize
homelessness but what can we do to help those in need? Having grown up less than an hour away
from San Francisco, my family would make frequent trips to the city. In the city, encountering
victims of homelessness is inevitable. In my younger years I could not help myself and would
stare at these people which was usually followed by me asking my parents questions like, Why is
that man sleeping on the ground? . Though these questions were laced in innocence, they still hold
significance today. Why is homelessness so prevalent and what are we doing as a

to their learners in order to promote growth and comprehension of the second language. This paper
seeks to identify the various types of oral corrective feedback through studying of previous
literatures published on corrective feedback which are broadly classified into two categories:
prompts and reformulations. Despite the existence of shortcomings associated with corrective
feedback, the receptiveness of students to corrective feedback indicates its significance in
enhancing the learningof second languages. According to Lyster and Ranta, six different types of
CF exist but these can further be broadly classified into two categories; prompts and reformulations
(37). Prompts include different types of signals that push a learner to self repair. These prompt
signals include metalinguistic clues, repetition, elicitation, and clarification requests.
Reformulations, on the other hand, include explicit correction and recasts, which provide the
learner with target formulations of their non target output. Moreover, corrective feedback could be
classified as either implicit or explicit. Recasts are on many occasions considered implicit, but can
also become explicit due to certain characteristics such as length, linguistic target, and changes
made to the original utterance.

The HR Sergeant s Role In The Army Profession
In 2001, the U.S. Military entered Afghanistan and began Operation Enduring Freedom. This
marked the beginning of the war on terrorism. Nine years later, in 2010, the Secretary of the
Army and the Chief of Staff reflected on the challenges the Army had endured as a profession and
took a hard look at how the Army must change to adapt to a persistent conflict. This essay will
focus on four critical questions addressing the importance of the role of a Human Resources (HR)
Noncommissioned Officer(NCO) as a member of the Profession of Arms. The four questions are:
a.What it means to be a Profession
b.The Balancing Role of the Profession s Leaders

Modern Democratic Governments
According to the Economist Intelligence Unit s Democracy index map for 2012, nearly half of the
world s population was living under democratic governments. Democracy is spreading throughout
the world, although growth has slowed, and many nations have drawn their political inspiration
from the United States of America, which was one of the first to govern under a constitutional
republic in the modern era. One of the more unique features of our government, which other
countries have attempted to adopt, has been that of federalism, which is the political system in
which authority is divided among the central government and separate, lower governments, such as
America s individual states. However, the system of checks and balances which the founders placed
into the constitution to form a separation of power among the government has not been so readily
duplicated by other democratic nations. According to America s founding fathers, it was vital that
the newly established government be separated into equal divisions, to ensure that no single
institution monopolized power. They accomplished this by creating three distinctly separate and
equally independent branches, which form the infrastructure of the government. According to
founder James Madison, the ambition of each branch should be made to counter act ambition of the
other two (Madison, Federalist 51, 1788). There are other techniques of governmental separation,
such as parliamentary systems, where the executive is

The Role Of Radical Colonists In Boston, Massachusetts
Boston, Massachusetts The home of radical colonists. The colony whose self ruling of 70 years
would end with British rule in 1691. My family, the Wright s, were among the first Puritans to
arrive in Massachusetts in the seventeenth century. They came here searching for religious freedom
and established a church for future generations. Since then, our colony has undergone several
changes. Our family has shifted away from religion and we are more involved with trade and
commerce. As Boston expands into a trading colony, the British would enforce more and more
regulations. Several colonists speak of unimaginable, radical ideas that seem too childish to believe
it would happen to our colonies. Rumors are spreading about unrest among colonists... Show more

Most our prime resources were being heavily taxed on, like paper and our precious tea. If we had
never experienced a financial crisis, we were definitely experiencing one now. All the different
competing general stores were competing for lower prices just to get the items off the shelves,
even if it meant selling without a profit. For our store, we consumed the more expensive items
and sold the rest at such low prices that barely allowed us to buy new products to replace the
empty shelves. The most part of this act came in October. Several Bostonians began boycotting
British luxury goods. This hurt our profits even more since most of our products were labeled as
luxurious. My parents were contemplating what we would do with our family store. Father,
having more of a sentimental connection to the store, said to continue doing what we have been
doing to see how long we can last. However, mother came up with a more logical solution: we
would close the store for the time being and reopen when times get better and father would get a
job that would get him more income. Mother would stay with me and Alice and do the domestic
chores. What would become of the Wrights and the rest of

Poor People And Poverty In The Mass Media
1.Despite 40 million poor people being in the nation, less than one in 500 articles in New York
Times and one in thousand articles in Readers Guide to Periodic Literature are about poverty. The
highly concentrated media businesses tend to ignore poor people and portray them as a negative
aspect of the society. Poor people and their misery is often unnoticed and is masked by and
misleading stories and are even turned into statistics used for debates and discussions. The media
points out povertyas the failure of what poor people do and identifies it as a part of cycle, which
includes poor people and their deprivation; So basically, poor people and poverty are depicted as
causes and effects of each other. Therefore, the media seems to mark poor people as unimportant
and often, false and unimportant aspects are portrayed in their stories.
2.The media generally tends to prioritize concerns of wealthy people and presents their concerns
as the concerns of all. For example, the news media focuses more on stocks and business news
although relatively few people own them. Mostly, the media focuses on interests of high class and
success stories but fails to notice the impact of rich class on national level policies which include
corporate lobbying and supporting political parties. Sometimes, selected elite individuals are
mocked for their personality flaws and inappropriate manners, but the media usually appears to be
supporting the elite and this is mainly because the owners

Intrusion Detection System ( Ids )
Abstract Increasing attacks and intrusion of the Internet and computer systems necessitate the need
for Intrusion Detection System (IDS) to prevent attacks. Genetic Algorithm (GA) is applied to
support IDS. Fitness function and GA operators crossover, mutation, and population representation
play an important role in improving the performance of an IDS: high detection rate, and low false
positive rate. This paper suggests a Fitness Function using Reward Penalty technique that rewards
the good chromosome and penalizes the bad chromosome, for improved performance. We suggest
that the GA parameters be optimized for better IDS performance.
Keywords Intrusion detection; genetic algorithm; fitness function; detection rate; false positive rate.
I.INTRODUCTION
Intrusion can be defined as the actions that attempt to compromise the integrity, confidentiality, or
availability of a computer resource [1]. Intrusion Detection System is a software or device to
discover the intrusion activity. Based on detection process, IDS can be classified into two groups:
Anomaly detection, and misuse/signature detection. Anomaly detection looks for rare or unusual
network activities, while misuse/signature detection uses past well known attack patterns signature
to identify illegal activities. This paper deals with only misuse/signature detection in computer
networks. Network attack types can be categorized into the following groups:
Denial of Service Attack (DoS): A DoS attack makes the computer

Questions On The Pythagorean Theorem Essay
Tasfia HaqueMath Research Paper
December 8, 2015Mr. Rubinstein Period 6 The Pythagorean theorem is a theorem that states that
the sum of the squares of two legs of a right triangle, a and b, is equal to the square of the
hypotenuse, c. This can be written and shown as the equation, a2+b2=c2. Because a2+b2=c2, we
can solve for the sides of the legs of the right triangles, in terms of this formula of the Pythagorean
theorem.
C=в€
љ(A2+B2)
A=в€
љ(C2 B2)
B=в€
љ(C2 A2)
This diagram represents the Pythagorean theorem as well. Because the squares of each side of the
right triangle are used in the theorem, this can be shown as an extension to each side of the
triangle, where there are three squares and one side of each square is apart of the triangle. The
sum of the areas of the two squares attached to the legs of the triangle is equal to the area of the
square attached to the hypotenuse. This is because to find the area of the square, you square its
side, which also happens to be the side of the triangle. This perfectly shows and represents the
Pythagorean theorem because the sides have to be squared and added to create the equation,
a2+b2=c2. This can also be shown through other extensions and shapes that are attached to each
side of the triangle, not just with squares. For example, the sum of the area of circles or hexagons
attached to the two legs of the right triangle is equal to the area of the circle or hexagon attached to
the hypotenuse. This is

College Athletes Should Not Be Exempt from Regular Class...
Many college athletes miss classes because of practice, competition and from exhaustion.
For those reasons, supporters argue for exemption of athletes from class attendance policies.
Others argue that college athletes are given scholarships to attend college to play sports. On the
contrary, the focus of colleges is educating students. The question is, should colleges athletes be
exempt from the class attendance requirements? The answer is no and here is why. First, the
education of athletes takes priority over recreational activities. Second, it is unfair for athletes to
receive preferential treatment. Third, exempting athletes from the policies does not allow them to

After all, athletes are not born they train hard to get their skills and do remarkably on the court. The
philosophy here is athletes must work equally hard in the classroom. (Emma) stated in A College
Perspective on Academic and the Student Athlete.
Coach Athletic Director As more eyes open to the athlete s challenges and struggles, more ideas and
strategies will emerge to help them succeed not only in between the lines of the playing field or
court, but in the lecture halls, science labs, and classrooms as well. Thus, education is a key
element that produces academic achievers, tomorrow s leaders and balance adults. Given these
points, the student athletes must recognize the importance class attendance.
For the longest time it has been known that student athletes often miss classes. Moreover, athlete
miss classes to attend practice, take part in competition and from exhaustion. Also, some athletes
are going to leave college early and enter professional sport. Consequently, they skip classes and
slide through college. Of course, colleges with attendance policies requires students to attend
classes a certain amount of time and so should the athletes. Whenever athletes miss classes their
academic performance is usually affected. As a matter of fact, it is difficult for them to keep up the

The Secret Life of Frogs (Poetry by Gwen Harwood) Essay
The Secret Life of Frogs is a poem that delves into the childhood perception of war, in particular
World War I, and the experiences of their fathers. The Secret Life of Frogs deals with the idea of
misunderstandings incurred when children attempt to understand adult concepts. This is evident
through the use of punning. The term Frog, which is frequently used throughout the poem adds
amusement to the text because to the readers, it not only translates literally to a frog, but also
represents the rival French peoplein the war through a negative light. However, the narrator, who is
also one of the children in the poem, does not understand this other meaning attached to the term
frog . This can clearly be seen in the final sentence... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The use of the metaphor Dad the Impaler , accentuates the idea that children saw this term in a very
positive manner when in actual fact it has negative connotations. This highlights the brutality of
war, and the negative influence of war on children because the children in the poem used Dad the
Impaler in a heroic manner.
The use of simile in the last stanza matchstick hands as pale as the violet stems they lived among
is used to compare a frog to violet flowers, which are very delicate and easily broken. The
innocence of childhood is painted through this visual technique as the narrator only sees the frogs
being very delicate, but to the readers the simile also creates a vivid image of the condition of the
Frogs / the French. The use of first person helps to create a reminiscent tone about the narrator s
experiences, and further helps to stress the ideas of childhood innocence and the influence of war
on children because the poem is written from a child s perspective. The use of enjambment
generates a conversational and personal tone, emphasizing to the readers the reality of the themes
discussed throughout the poem. The use of symbolism of frogs as pets and also representing the
French highlights the idea that adults saw Frogs as insignificant or unworthy to speak about,
whereas the children could not understand this adult thought, and they placed exemplary regard to
the wellbeing of the

Animal Domestication History
Looking back at the history of animal domestication, dogs were the one of the first animals to be
victimized. Evidence dates back to about 15,000 years ago. Even in the early ages, dogs were
deemed as sincere guardians and hunters. They have played a vital role in the history of warfare
starting from ancient times.
Dogs were used by Egyptians, Persians, Slavs, Romans and Greeks. The Molossus dog was thought
to be the most powerful dog by the Romans and underwent intense training for war. The Romans
and Greeks exploited dogs for the purpose of defense. During the Late Antuquity, Atilla the Hun
used Molosser dogs. The Spanish conquerors of Mexico and Peru in the 16th century used armored
dogs who were skilled to kill the locals. Dogs were also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

human beings are unable to, making them more efficient and reliable. They are trained to act as

tradition of use of military dogs is still alive in the modern world. As of 2011, 600 police dogs

Inherently, the focus of God is love and to respect His authority is to love Him. Learning to
worship God as Trinity involves more than just searching for creative techniques. We need to
know about the nature of our triune God if we are to worship him and enjoy him properly (Shaw
79). Often when I feel discouraged, the instinct is to blame God, the creator of everything.
Sometimes I get so wrapped up in my own selfishness, that I forget all the things God has done,
not just for me, but also for the world. His mercy is compassionate love for sinners who do not
deserve the redemption in Christ that he offers. His grace likewise speaks of his free favor
granted to sinners (Shaw 81). I am also reminded that God is transcendent. He surpasses time
and money, earth and space. God is so important, that metaphors are constantly referred to as
representing God: God is a rock, God is the light, God is the bread, God is a fortress, God is the
potter and we are the clay (GCU text). According to the text, creation and humanity are the work
of a triune God. Creation includes the entire activity of God. In creation all three persons are at
work simultaneously, including the Holy Spirit (Gen 1:2) and the Word (John 1:1) (Chapter 5). 3
Studies of Jesus primarily focus on the duality of Jesus and how he is able to be both human and
divine at once. This subject was disputed at the Council of Chalcedon in the year 451 between the

Exchange Rate Volatility Measure And Relative Price
3.2 Exchange Rate Volatility measure and relative price An important issue in this topic is how to
choose the appropriate technique to estimate the exchange rate volatility. However, wide variety of
measures have been discussing in the literature, but there is no right or wrong measure of
exchange rate volatility. Mckenzie (1999) provides a brief over view of different methods to
measure exchange ratevolatility, such average absolute difference between the previous forward and
current spot rate, variance of the spot exchange rate around its trend, absolute percentage change of
the exchange rate and the moving average of the standard deviationof the exchange rate. A moving
standard deviation of nominal or real exchange rate seems to be the most commonly used method
in the empirical literature. Hence, we will construct the moving average standard deviation of the
monthly real exchange rate volatility with the same spirit as Serenis and Tsounis (2014) and a
moving standard deviation of real exchange rate can be expressed as:
Where R_t is logarithm of nominal or real exchange rate and m is the number of periods which
can be range from 4 to 12.In this paper, we will use the moving average of the standard deviation
of exchange rate as the measure of exchange rate volatility by using the real exchange rate and the
order m is set to be 12. Koray and Lastrepes (1989) have shown that the moving average of the
standard deviation of the exchange rate captures the variation in the

that they planned to create. Due to the fact that the writing aspect was taken out due to time
constrictions, the students in place, had to come up with 5 questions about their graph that their
classmates could answer. When the students presented their graphs and questions, each student was
able to successfully answer their classmates questions about their graphs. All was labeled and

There is quite blatantly a mental disconnection of a whole town and is far as to have one is even
insulted for questioning it. Mark Twainis society s biggest critique as his whole book Adventures of
Huckleberry Finn is his disapproval of it. In one the many adventures, he stumbles across the
Grangerford s and the Sheperdson s feud, and he exposes their ignorance when Huck asked
Buck why there was a feud. Buck responds with I reckon maybe I don t know (Twain 168) and
eventually Huck witnesses the consequences of choosing to accept traditions without question
and it ends in many pointless deaths. One can see that the trend in blind tradition can end in
unfortunate consequences. Huck s young friend was willing to die for an aimless cause. When a
little boy is embedded with a mentality to fight till death since he was born, something is
morally wrong with the social norms of their society. Another ordeal in the family feud in
Huckleberry Finn was that if one chose to befriend a Sheperdson, they would be out casted from

Abstract: Feed forward control is a reliable for rejecting fast and dynamic voltage disturbances in
the phase grid. Mainly in this scheme implemented in phase voltages of the Wyes connected
configuration. Under this unbalanced and distorted grid conditions, the online conversion of
line to line values into the phase value is unworkable. In order to an exploit full advantages of
feed forward controller is a most appropriate modulator is needed. In this article the feed forward
of grid line to line voltages is used in phase voltages. The introduced feed forward method is
implemented in Implicit Zero Sequence Discontinuous Pulse Width Modulation (IZDPWM)
technique that is compatible for grid connected inverters. Regarding in the IZDPWM grid
topologies distorted the harmonics of the grid voltages. Hence, a sinusoidal current is injected to
the grid. Moreover, the measuring grid line to line voltages two sensors are required; hence an
overall system costs is reduced and control system reliability is increased. The time domain
simulations in MATLAB/Simulink and experimental results from a Hardware based laboratory
prototypes are in good agreements,

Malnutrition Associated With Chronic Disease
Alexis Aaron
Case Study #3 Malnutrition Associated with Chronic Disease Chronic diseases are characterized as
a condition lasting longer than three months and an acute illness is of a shorter duration.
Malnutrition associated with chronic diseases can be due to the fact that many patients with chronic
diseases are physically handicapped and unable to perform activities of daily living such as eating
and driving themselves to the store. Chronic diseases that could physically cause malnutrition like
this include rheumatoid arthritis or neuromuscular diseases such as stroke. Another way that
malnutrition associated with chronic disease can happen is through inflammation of the organs that
can occur during organ failure or pancreatic cancer and cause certain nutrients to not be absorbed at
all. Malnutrition associated with acute illness and inflammation can be caused by traumatic injuries
such as severe burns and major infections of the body. The inflammatory response is a defense
mechanism triggered by invading bacteria or severe injury. People who have been victims of these
types of injuries can sustain pretty severe damage to their metabolism caused by the inflammatory
response and can interfere with the nutrition therapy the RD is attempting to provide this can lead to
unwanted weight loss and malnutrition.

Changes In Polar Bear Eating Habits
On the western shore of the Hudson Bay, biologists have been studying the drastic changed in
polar bear diets and their new eating habits. Through their studies of polar bear scat and video
surveillance, the biologists have come to the conclusion that polar bears are beginning to adopt a
new form of food. They are beginning to eat from the abundant source of snow geese. The snow
geese have been traveling farther north in the spring to nest in the grassy, arctic marshes. Here they
lay their eggs, vulnerable to predators such as the polar bear. Due to the global warming, the arctic
ice has begun to melt at a much faster pace. This means that polar bears have less time and less ice
to hunt for seals. The polar bears have always relied on seals

Short Term Incentive Pay System
Short Term Incentive Pay
A survey report for publicly traded companies administered by WorldatWork found that 99
percent of the 350 companies had some form of short term incentive pay system in place (Miller,
2014). Short term incentive pay compensates employees for achieving short term business goals
that are typically a year or less. These goals can depend on factors such as the type of business, its
specific strategy, and market conditions to name a few. Metrics for short term incentiveplans can
include financial metrics like revenue growth and profit maximization as well as non financial
metrics specific to the company, such as safety or quality assurance, customer satisfaction, and
more (Fotsch Case, 2015). Short term incentives normally reflect a percentage of the employee s
salary or wage; there are threshold, target, and maximum levels that can be achieved providing
different levels of compensation based on outcome. Short term incentive pay can involve individual
employee performance, or group company wide performance. Some examples of short term
incentive pay include merit pay, bonus pay, and profit/gain sharing. Understanding the specific
processes and benefits of these types of short term incentives allows employers to choose which
plan saves the company the most money in terms of productivity and reduction of turnover.
Individual Short Term Incentive Pay
Over half (55%) of publicly traded companies offer an annual incentive plan or bonus plan to

The Pros And Cons Of Steroids In Major League Baseball
In Major League Baseball, numerous players have put up tremendous statistics and record
breaking numbers. There are a great amount of players in the league that have done this
naturally, however it is not uncommon to see star players get caught taking performance
enhancing drugs or steroids. Steroid use in baseball has been an issue since the earliest days of
the game, and can be seen very frequently in players today. Jose Canseco was a star hitter in the
major leagues, who had admitted to steroid later in his career. Canseco once estimated that 85%
of other players were also taking performance enhancing drugs. Though that estimate is not
proven, there are still many players today that are taking these steroids, and it needs to remain an
issue in the eyes of the MLB. Taking these drugs not only promotes the risk of significant side
effects and health problems to the player consuming them, but it makes changes to the game
itself as well. The way the game is being played has changed over time due to this issue, and
players are receiving advantages that other players are not. Overall, these illegal drugs are unfair
to other players in the game and simply are not safe, and should never become legal in the league.
Throughout the history of major league baseball we have seen countless astonishing hitters come
pass through, some putting up record breaking numbers, at times too good to be true. Barry Bonds,
known as the homerun king was able to put up an amazing total of 73 home runs in 2001. The
very next season, he continued to present his skill with a .370 batting average. Between 1999 and
2007, Bonds stats were shocking, hitting 351 home runs, winning four national league MVP
awards, and racking up 780 RBI s, 69 stolen bases, and just over one thousand hits. Alex Rodriguez,
better known as A rod is another huge name when talking about the greatest hitters in baseball.
For nine seasons out of Rodriguez s twenty two season career, 8.5% of the balls he would put
into play were home runs. By the end of his lengthy career, he was able to collect 698 home runs,
over two thousand RBI s and runs scored, with over three thousand hits. He was also named All
Star fourteen times. With numbers like these, it is hard to

  • 2. Refugee Challenges For Refugees The current refugee scene is facing many complications. The challenges these individuals face while moving to a new country has encouraged us to focus our project on providing refugees with the assistance they need to succeed. Exploring different areas such as connections and services through an interview process has given us a better insight into what path to take to better accommodate refugees with the challenges in their current country. When conducting interviews our group kept in mind the practicality of the refugee s situation. Since for many individuals, this time in their lives is emotional we decided to reach out to the individuals that help refugees. When deciding who to contact for interviews we kept all our options open, communicating with immigration officers, program managers, University of Waterloo volunteers and teachers etc. First, we created a target list of many individuals that we were interested to hear from. Our first point of contact was email, with some participants they emailed their answers to us, however with others they preferred to communicate through the phone. In the end, all of the interviews we collected were completed through phone calls and emails. Our project is based around a relatively touchy subject because in many cases, refugees have been forced from their country for their own safety. If people ask how life was like before and what made them leave their home, they may feel uncomfortable and out of place like the new kid on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Human Organ Market Essay Economic Analysis of a Human Organ Market Human organs have been transplanted for many years. There are currently 123,940 people waiting for an organ in order to get their transplant. Of that vast number, around 18 people die each day waiting for an organ ( Why Organ, Eye, and Tissue Donation? n.d.). There has been some issues with human organ transplants whether it is ethical or not. Another view on transplantation is to create a market for organs. With the increasing number of people in search for an organ in order to save their life, the demand for human organs is on the rise. As with any economic and ethical debate there are two viewpoints on this issue. Proponents believe that it will eliminate the black market of human organ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When it is unknown whether the person was a donor, the next of kin could make the decision to donate the deceased organs (Hansmann, n.d.). This act did not specify if the organs were subject to sales however. The chairman of the committee involved in drafting the UAGA stated, ... it is possible, of course, that abuses may occur if payment could customarily be demanded, but every payment is not necessarily unethical... Until the matter of payment becomes a problem of some dimensions, the matter should be left to the decency of intelligent human beings (Hansmann, n.d.). The sales of organs remained uncertain until in 1984 when the National Organ Transplant Act (NOTA) was established. The act established federal monetary support for nonprofit organ attaining organizations and national organ and transplantation network to assist in matching recipients with donors. NOTA also made commercial markets for organ transplants a federal crime, and states also made different statues of their own outlawing sales of organs. As a result, an effort to create a human organ market would require a repeal of amendment of legislation at both the state and federal levels (Hansmann, n.d.). The ban of sale from this act was to encourage altruism to benefit others by becoming a donor instead of being forced to become a donor. As stated above, it has been a difficult process to make the provisions of transplantation clear and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The protagonist is Victor Vran a demon hunter located in the city of Zagoravia. As the demon infestation gets worse our demon hunters grow thin. Victor, while unclear of his motives, makes it clear that he needs to help the city. Unfortunately, Victor is harassed by a voice in his head that has ulterior motives. Victor Vans story is satisfying to say the least. I d consider it novel. The plot unfolds well with fantastic writing, character development, and composition. The city of Zagarovia provides us as a safe haven for trade while a world map offers us the ability to jump to and from locations. The game offered an excellent tutorial to teach the player the controls I enjoy a game that can mask the tutorial with a great story. For example, Victor Vran enters the Fallen Keep on his way to Castle Zagore and runs into what seems like a deteriorated guards training room; they use this opportunity to refine the relationship between Victor and the voice in his head. You can also see the games sense of humor parallel to the how to s . The gameplay is tightly knitted to mesh well with any play style. It also offers a nice variety of unconventional weapons, Scythes, shotguns, and swords decorated with interesting names all with variable stats. At our period of time, the woodland caribou are listed under threatened and under the Species at Risk Act . These animals need to be protected, or as a result extinction of the caribou is certain. The boreal forest is a spacious and safe habitat where the woodland caribou can find necessary items for them to not only survive, but to thrive. As a result of the rapidly decreasing caribou population our forests are also suffering. The caribou take care of the forests and because of this, our forests are able to provide us with several mandatory supplies. If the woodland caribou population decrease, the result is that the forests will not be able to sequester the carbon, regulate the climate, and mitigate against floods.Where the woodland caribou still survive, our boreal forests are intact and healthy. • 6. The Work And Contribution Of Anna Freud Women have played a very important role in the development of psychology, though they are not recognized as major contributors. In this paper we are going to be focusing on the works and contribution of Anna Freud. She is known for her construction of child psychoanalysis theory and her interpretation of child psychology. Anna Freud (1895 1982) is famous as being involved in the foundation of the child psychoanalytic movement. She was the youngest of Freud s children and the only one to whose life was devoted to psychoanalysis. Her development of child psychoanalysis has been greatly noted in the history of psychology. Anna Freud kept the basic ideas that her father developed. However, her interest laid in the psyche and how it was constructed. Energy from Coal: The Nation s Dirty Secret Abstract While technology has led the world into such an advanced setting with intelligent machinery and automated devices, coal has remained a loyal contributor of the energy needed by these various types of equipment to function properly. Almost half of the electricity in the United States is produced in coal plants where coal is burnt to produce this energy [1]. Both beneficial and detrimental factors come with this alternative source of energy, known by the world for centuries. Background Information Even with the quantity of fossil fuels dwindling due to human consumption, coal has remained one of the cheapest, reliable sources of electricity, natural gas, diesel fuel, and steel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But there are also many detrimental factors as well, since the production of coal results in air pollution, sulfur dioxide emission, carbon dioxide emission, acid rain, and hazardous waste [4]. These environmental problems are due to both the mining of coal and coal production plants. Many issues arise with the mining of coal. Firstly, the safety of miners is put at risk as they descend hundreds of feet below the surface of the Earth. After many years in this field of work, many miners develop black lung because of inhaling the coal extensively. Secondly, the extraction of coal is very costly due to the machinery needed along with the transportation of the coal after it has been mined to the various factories that are able to extract the sulfur impurities in coal and burn the coal for energy [5]. New methods have been developed to help with some of the issues relating to coal production. To rid the surrounding environment of toxic pollution, emission scrubbing technology has been installed into coal plants. This is approximately 90% to 95% affective in eliminating the mercury, sulfur, and nitrogen emissions [6]. As for the deep mining issues, there is another method to retrieve coal from the Earth, removing the entire mountain tops covering a reserve of coal beneath. Although this ... A Community Of Nobodies Of The Modern World It is dangerous that we lose our bearings as we struggle at and with margins and marginalized people, and they are often forgotten in our lives (EG #54). They are addicts, victims of the ism, the throwaways of the modern world (refugees, migrants, and survivors of war), handicapped, and challenged disabilities. They form a community of nobodies and Jesusis among them. As authentic disciples, we should question ourselves that where their places are in our ministry. What are locking our sight and our mind to see and reach them? Being with, converting to, working from, and serving at the margins are what Jesus did to enter deeper into human world. From divine to human, from human to stranger, and from stranger to obedient death, and from suffering to glory, Jesus became incarnate among us as both humanly divine and divinely human. He shows us the possibility of conversion from ethnocentrism, a transformation from monocultural orientations to intercultural orientation. In other words, such conversion is the facility to move from one s own worldview to that of another. Certainly, we must agree that to be marginal persons in ministry, we need the qualities such as faithfulness, trust, respect, listening, openness, and acceptance. Although ethnocentrism is like a shadow, it does not become a stumbling block if we carefully enter the world of others. Taking a Look at Poliomyelitis Polio which may also be called poliomyelitis is a viral disease that can be spread or transmitted from individual to individual mainly through the fecal oral route. The word polio is of Greek origin polios meaning grey and myelos meaning marrow which refers to the grey particle of the spinal cord. It is noted that about 90% of polio infections are asymptomatic but affected patients can show an amount of if the virus enters their blood circulation. In rare cases, the virus can enter the central nervous system which could lead to the destruction of some motor neurons which automatically causes muscle weakness and possible flaccid paralysis. Polio may occur in three different forms: Spinal polio: this is the most commonly noted form of polio characterized by paralysis most often involves the lower limbs (legs). Bulbar polio: this kind of polio could be very severe and can lead to muscle weakness (muscles innervated by the cranial nerves). Bulbospinal polio: this is the combination of spinal and bulbar paralysis. HISTORY Polio was first discovered as a coition by Jakob Heine in 1840. The virus known to cause this disease or infection is the POLIOVIRUS which was first noticed in 1908 by Karl Landsteiner. Major polio epidemics started to appear in the late 19th century in Europe. While these incidents may seem unrelated to current times, similar incidents are starting to occur in many parts of the world and one such place is Congo. Many sources hint that the conflict that occurs in Congo is a genocide because many elements of genocide appear in the conflict like classification or dehumanization. While what they say has some truth in the sense that this conflict contains some element of genocide but, not enough elements are present to make it a genocide. Although many would believe that the conflict in Congo is a genocide, there is evidence of the conflict being a territorial and power dispute because some countries invading Congo want the resources, others want power, and the cause of the conflict in Congo is the aftermath of the Rwandan genocide. An Definition Of Domestic Violence Essay The definition of domestic violence, or intimate partner violence, is a multiple or single incidence of abusive behavior that uses oppression, threats, isolation, and fear that often results in psychological and/or emotional trauma. Intimate partner violence is not a specific gender issue; a common assumption is that victims of abusive relationships are only women, which is a false belief. According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, 1 in 4 men have experience some type of psychological and/or physical violence by their partner (2014). Partner abuse, or domestic violence is a big social problem in the United States. Alone in Texas, the NCADV reported that there were 76,704 victims of abuse by current or former spouses. They also reported 114 Texan women were killed by their partners. This is more than 10% of the national total (2015). No matter the age, gender or race, everyone is exposed to this threat. A recent report by the NCADV also reveals that 75% of Texans ranging from 16 to 24 year olds have experienced violence by their partners, or know someone (2015). This is definitely a scary high number. Another common assumption is that it is only the victims the ones who suffer. This is not exactly true. For example, a capitalistic, laissez faire approach to governing, particularly the form advocated by American Republicans. Refraining from absolute negativity about Lao Tzu s work, the Tao does have many redeemable qualities. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Visual distraction of this nature is anything that requires the driver to take his or her eyes away from the road. Manual distraction involves the driver removing his or her hands from the steering wheel. Cognitive distraction forces the driver to think about something other than driving safely (Goldfarb, 2010). These skills are critical when safely operating a motor vehicle that requires concentration, coordination, and prompt, immediate responses to sensory input. Studies conducted from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety shows that using a cell phone while driving significantly impairs a driver s reaction time and triples the risk of being involved in a crash or near crash, and text messaging increases crash risk by a multiple of 8 for all ages (NHTSA, 2009). Situational awareness is significantly decreased while engaging in distracted driving, and in turn inattention blindness is increased drastically creating a potentially deadly situation on the roads. Prompts include different types of signals that push a learner to self repair. These prompt signals include metalinguistic clues, repetition, elicitation, and clarification requests. Reformulations, on the other hand, include explicit correction and recasts, which provide the learner with target formulations of their non target output. Moreover, corrective feedback could be classified as either implicit or explicit. Recasts are on many occasions considered implicit, but can also become explicit due to certain characteristics such as length, linguistic target, and changes made to the original utterance. • 24. Modern Democratic Governments According to the Economist Intelligence Unit s Democracy index map for 2012, nearly half of the world s population was living under democratic governments. Democracy is spreading throughout the world, although growth has slowed, and many nations have drawn their political inspiration from the United States of America, which was one of the first to govern under a constitutional republic in the modern era. One of the more unique features of our government, which other countries have attempted to adopt, has been that of federalism, which is the political system in which authority is divided among the central government and separate, lower governments, such as America s individual states. However, the system of checks and balances which the founders placed into the constitution to form a separation of power among the government has not been so readily duplicated by other democratic nations. According to America s founding fathers, it was vital that the newly established government be separated into equal divisions, to ensure that no single institution monopolized power. They accomplished this by creating three distinctly separate and equally independent branches, which form the infrastructure of the government. According to founder James Madison, the ambition of each branch should be made to counter act ambition of the other two (Madison, Federalist 51, 1788). There are other techniques of governmental separation, such as parliamentary systems, where the executive is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

My family, the Wright s, were among the first Puritans to arrive in Massachusetts in the seventeenth century. They came here searching for religious freedom and established a church for future generations. Since then, our colony has undergone several changes. Our family has shifted away from religion and we are more involved with trade and commerce. As Boston expands into a trading colony, the British would enforce more and more regulations. For our store, we consumed the more expensive items and sold the rest at such low prices that barely allowed us to buy new products to replace the empty shelves. The most part of this act came in October. Several Bostonians began boycotting British luxury goods. This hurt our profits even more since most of our products were labeled as luxurious. My parents were contemplating what we would do with our family store. Father, having more of a sentimental connection to the store, said to continue doing what we have been doing to see how long we can last. Poor People And Poverty In The Mass Media 1.Despite 40 million poor people being in the nation, less than one in 500 articles in New York Times and one in thousand articles in Readers Guide to Periodic Literature are about poverty. The highly concentrated media businesses tend to ignore poor people and portray them as a negative aspect of the society. Poor people and their misery is often unnoticed and is masked by and misleading stories and are even turned into statistics used for debates and discussions. The media points out povertyas the failure of what poor people do and identifies it as a part of cycle, which includes poor people and their deprivation; So basically, poor people and poverty are depicted as causes and effects of each other. Therefore, the media seems to mark poor people as unimportant and often, false and unimportant aspects are portrayed in their stories. 2.The media generally tends to prioritize concerns of wealthy people and presents their concerns as the concerns of all. Genetic Algorithm (GA) is applied to support IDS. Fitness function and GA operators crossover, mutation, and population representation play an important role in improving the performance of an IDS: high detection rate, and low false positive rate. This paper suggests a Fitness Function using Reward Penalty technique that rewards the good chromosome and penalizes the bad chromosome, for improved performance. We suggest that the GA parameters be optimized for better IDS performance. Keywords Intrusion detection; genetic algorithm; fitness function; detection rate; false positive rate. I.INTRODUCTION Intrusion can be defined as the actions that attempt to compromise the integrity, confidentiality, or availability of a computer resource [1]. Intrusion Detection System is a software or device to discover the intrusion activity. Based on detection process, IDS can be classified into two groups: Anomaly detection, and misuse/signature detection. Anomaly detection looks for rare or unusual network activities, while misuse/signature detection uses past well known attack patterns signature to identify illegal activities. • 28. Questions On The Pythagorean Theorem Essay Tasfia HaqueMath Research Paper December 8, 2015Mr. Rubinstein Period 6 The Pythagorean theorem is a theorem that states that the sum of the squares of two legs of a right triangle, a and b, is equal to the square of the hypotenuse, c. This can be written and shown as the equation, a2+b2=c2. Because a2+b2=c2, we can solve for the sides of the legs of the right triangles, in terms of this formula of the Pythagorean theorem. C=в€ љ(A2+B2) A=в€ љ(C2 B2) B=в€ љ(C2 A2) This diagram represents the Pythagorean theorem as well. Because the squares of each side of the right triangle are used in the theorem, this can be shown as an extension to each side of the triangle, where there are three squares and one side of each square is apart of the triangle. The sum of the areas of the two squares attached to the legs of the triangle is equal to the area of the square attached to the hypotenuse. This is because to find the area of the square, you square its side, which also happens to be the side of the triangle. This perfectly shows and represents the Pythagorean theorem because the sides have to be squared and added to create the equation, a2+b2=c2. This can also be shown through other extensions and shapes that are attached to each side of the triangle, not just with squares. For example, the sum of the area of circles or hexagons attached to the two legs of the right triangle is equal to the area of the circle or hexagon attached to the hypotenuse. This is ... The Secret Life of Frogs (Poetry by Gwen Harwood) Essay The Secret Life of Frogs is a poem that delves into the childhood perception of war, in particular World War I, and the experiences of their fathers. The Secret Life of Frogs deals with the idea of misunderstandings incurred when children attempt to understand adult concepts. This is evident through the use of punning. The term Frog, which is frequently used throughout the poem adds amusement to the text because to the readers, it not only translates literally to a frog, but also represents the rival French peoplein the war through a negative light. However, the narrator, who is also one of the children in the poem, does not understand this other meaning attached to the term frog . This can clearly be seen in the final sentence... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The use of the metaphor Dad the Impaler , accentuates the idea that children saw this term in a very positive manner when in actual fact it has negative connotations. This highlights the brutality of war, and the negative influence of war on children because the children in the poem used Dad the Impaler in a heroic manner. The use of simile in the last stanza matchstick hands as pale as the violet stems they lived among is used to compare a frog to violet flowers, which are very delicate and easily broken. The innocence of childhood is painted through this visual technique as the narrator only sees the frogs being very delicate, but to the readers the simile also creates a vivid image of the condition of the Frogs / the French. The use of first person helps to create a reminiscent tone about the narrator s experiences, and further helps to stress the ideas of childhood innocence and the influence of war on children because the poem is written from a child s perspective. The use of enjambment generates a conversational and personal tone, emphasizing to the readers the reality of the themes discussed throughout the poem. The use of symbolism of frogs as pets and also representing the French highlights the idea that adults saw Frogs as insignificant or unworthy to speak about, whereas the children could not understand this adult thought, and they placed exemplary regard to the wellbeing of the ... We need to know about the nature of our triune God if we are to worship him and enjoy him properly (Shaw 79). Often when I feel discouraged, the instinct is to blame God, the creator of everything. Sometimes I get so wrapped up in my own selfishness, that I forget all the things God has done, not just for me, but also for the world. His mercy is compassionate love for sinners who do not deserve the redemption in Christ that he offers. His grace likewise speaks of his free favor granted to sinners (Shaw 81). I am also reminded that God is transcendent. He surpasses time and money, earth and space. God is so important, that metaphors are constantly referred to as representing God: God is a rock, God is the light, God is the bread, God is a fortress, God is the potter and we are the clay (GCU text). Exchange Rate Volatility Measure And Relative Price 3.2 Exchange Rate Volatility measure and relative price An important issue in this topic is how to choose the appropriate technique to estimate the exchange rate volatility. However, wide variety of measures have been discussing in the literature, but there is no right or wrong measure of exchange rate volatility. Mckenzie (1999) provides a brief over view of different methods to measure exchange ratevolatility, such average absolute difference between the previous forward and current spot rate, variance of the spot exchange rate around its trend, absolute percentage change of the exchange rate and the moving average of the standard deviationof the exchange rate. A moving standard deviation of nominal or real exchange rate seems to be the most commonly used method in the empirical literature. Hence, we will construct the moving average standard deviation of the monthly real exchange rate volatility with the same spirit as Serenis and Tsounis (2014) and a moving standard deviation of real exchange rate can be expressed as: Where R_t is logarithm of nominal or real exchange rate and m is the number of periods which can be range from 4 to 12.In this paper, we will use the moving average of the standard deviation of exchange rate as the measure of exchange rate volatility by using the real exchange rate and the order m is set to be 12. Malnutrition Associated With Chronic Disease Alexis Aaron Case Study #3 Malnutrition Associated with Chronic Disease Chronic diseases are characterized as a condition lasting longer than three months and an acute illness is of a shorter duration. Malnutrition associated with chronic diseases can be due to the fact that many patients with chronic diseases are physically handicapped and unable to perform activities of daily living such as eating and driving themselves to the store. Chronic diseases that could physically cause malnutrition like this include rheumatoid arthritis or neuromuscular diseases such as stroke. Another way that malnutrition associated with chronic disease can happen is through inflammation of the organs that can occur during organ failure or pancreatic cancer and cause certain nutrients to not be absorbed at all. Malnutrition associated with acute illness and inflammation can be caused by traumatic injuries such as severe burns and major infections of the body. The inflammatory response is a defense mechanism triggered by invading bacteria or severe injury. People who have been victims of these types of injuries can sustain pretty severe damage to their metabolism caused by the inflammatory response and can interfere with the nutrition therapy the RD is attempting to provide this can lead to unwanted weight loss and malnutrition. • 45. Changes In Polar Bear Eating Habits On the western shore of the Hudson Bay, biologists have been studying the drastic changed in polar bear diets and their new eating habits. Through their studies of polar bear scat and video surveillance, the biologists have come to the conclusion that polar bears are beginning to adopt a new form of food. They are beginning to eat from the abundant source of snow geese. The snow geese have been traveling farther north in the spring to nest in the grassy, arctic marshes. Here they lay their eggs, vulnerable to predators such as the polar bear. Due to the global warming, the arctic ice has begun to melt at a much faster pace. This means that polar bears have less time and less ice to hunt for seals. The polar bears have always relied on seals ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Short Term Incentive Pay System Short Term Incentive Pay A survey report for publicly traded companies administered by WorldatWork found that 99 percent of the 350 companies had some form of short term incentive pay system in place (Miller, 2014). Short term incentive pay compensates employees for achieving short term business goals that are typically a year or less. These goals can depend on factors such as the type of business, its specific strategy, and market conditions to name a few. Metrics for short term incentiveplans can include financial metrics like revenue growth and profit maximization as well as non financial metrics specific to the company, such as safety or quality assurance, customer satisfaction, and more (Fotsch Case, 2015). Short term incentives normally reflect a percentage of the employee s salary or wage; there are threshold, target, and maximum levels that can be achieved providing different levels of compensation based on outcome. • 47. The Pros And Cons Of Steroids In Major League Baseball In Major League Baseball, numerous players have put up tremendous statistics and record breaking numbers. There are a great amount of players in the league that have done this naturally, however it is not uncommon to see star players get caught taking performance enhancing drugs or steroids. Steroid use in baseball has been an issue since the earliest days of the game, and can be seen very frequently in players today. Jose Canseco was a star hitter in the major leagues, who had admitted to steroid later in his career. Canseco once estimated that 85% of other players were also taking performance enhancing drugs. Though that estimate is not proven, there are still many players today that are taking these steroids, and it needs to remain an issue in the eyes of the MLB. Taking these drugs not only promotes the risk of significant side effects and health problems to the player consuming them, but it makes changes to the game itself as well. The way the game is being played has changed over time due to this issue, and players are receiving advantages that other players are not. Overall, these illegal drugs are unfair to other players in the game and simply are not safe, and should never become legal in the league. Throughout the history of major league baseball we have seen countless astonishing hitters come pass through, some putting up record breaking numbers, at times too good to be true. Barry Bonds, known as the homerun king was able to put up an amazing total of 73 home runs in 2001. The very next season, he continued to present his skill with a .370 batting average. Between 1999 and 2007, Bonds stats were shocking, hitting 351 home runs, winning four national league MVP awards, and racking up 780 RBI s, 69 stolen bases, and just over one thousand hits. Alex Rodriguez, better known as A rod is another huge name when talking about the greatest hitters in baseball. For nine seasons out of Rodriguez s twenty two season career, 8.5% of the balls he would put into play were home runs. By the end of his lengthy career, he was able to collect 698 home runs, over two thousand RBI s and runs scored, with over three thousand hits. He was also named All Star fourteen times. With numbers like these, it is hard to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
