Personal Note On Social Acceptance
Social Acceptance
When starting this personal change project, I found it easy to find a subject for me to change because
it was something that I had wanted to do for a long time. I am a people pleaser. I am controlled by
people s opinion of me. Plain and simple, I want to be accepted. It is exhausting, and not possible. To
begin to change, I had to embrace the reason s I was a people pleaser and needed others acceptance.
Acceptance and Rejection
The need for acceptance always comes with the fear of rejection. The need for acceptance is a
powerful motivator, but the fear of rejection can be even scarier. We can all think of a time where we
were rejected, and when thinking on that memory, and I bet you can still feel the sting. Fear of ...

Need to belong
Nathan DeWall, a Psychologist at the University of Kentucky says that Humans have a fundamental
need to belong. Just as we have needs for food and water, we also have needs for positive and lasting
relationships. The need to belong can be so strong that we are willing to change who we are just to
belong to a group. Most times it is small changes. For people who are people pleasers, we will go out
of our way to help others, even if that means we are neglecting ourselves, just to get their approval.
Self Esteem and Rejection
According to Geraldine Downey, PH. D., professor of psychology at Columbia University, Research
says that people whose self esteem is lower will experience rejection as more painful, and it ll take
them a little longer to get over it, he says. Meanwhile, those who have higher self esteem but who aren
t narcissists tend to be more resilient. Rejection for someone with low self esteem is more damaging
because they are less resilient to the hurt. A step that I have only begun to work on is my view of
myself. I am not comfortable with who I am. I am always conforming to what others want me to be
because I don t have confidence in my true self. It is easier to be who others want you to be then to be
who you really are. There is less rejection, if you go along with others idea of who you should be.

Roxy Paine, Conjoined Essay
The piece of art that I have chosen is Roxy Paine s Conjoined created in 2007. This is a
representational piece depicting a pair of trees taken from nature and joined by their branches. The
trees themselves are cylindrical, smooth and shiny from all angles. They reflect light from all sides
creating a mirror like appearance.
The branches initially flow upward but then gradually flow into the middle where they are conjoined.
They are located in Madison Square Park where they seem to blend in with the rest of the trees but
they definitely manage to stand out. Because they serve no function other than visual I consider this
sculpture to be fine art.
Roxy Paine welds cylindrical stainless steel pipes and rods to form and shape these two ... Show more

Stainless steel is more expensive than standard steel. Paine has studied and observed they way trees
grow and this has allowed him to form his own artistic rendition.
Paine uses the visual element of Direction and Movement to make the trees appear like they are
growing into each other or being pulled apart. The branches are tapering at the tips and flowing to the
side almost like a windstorm is blowing them over. Looking at the trees you get a real sense of
struggle between forces. They look like they are pulling apart but at the same time trying to overtake
one another.
He also uses the visual element of Shape and Mass. The trees are 3D representation of actual trees.
They are over 40 foot tall and very heavy; therefore they consume a large amount of volume and
mass. The trees appear to be constructed from geometric shapes but also try to follow the form of
nature in a more organic way.
Since the two trees are a sculpture they are naturally 3D but their reflection caused by light shining on
the stainless steel reminds us of their intricate details. The trees have a very strong gray
monochromatic earth tone caused by the steel.
A Principle of Design that Paine emphasizes is Unity. The trees are conjoined, rendering them as one,
as a whole, they are in unison. The trees appear to be to scale when compared to the other trees in the
park. They are not too small nor do the feel out of place. There is a strong emphasis near the middle of

Compare And Contrast The Progressive Movement And...
Industrialization, Progressive Movements and Urbanization The American society faced many
industrial revolutions which always changed its outlook. With industrialization the political scenario
also changed as the people started to participate more in politics and progressive movements started in
which different polices and reforms were introduced which brought further change in the American
society. In the late nineteenth century the American society industrialized because of the development
of new technologies and one nation market. Before that consumer markets were small but the
expansion of consumer market expanded the exposure of industrialists. The advance technologies

It was a golden age of American history. The consumer markets expanded but the income inequalities
were high due to low wages. The progressive era promised to increase the mass consumption and
expansion of capital market (Foner 734). These things considered the basic elements of freedom so
leisure activities were also influenced by capitalism. Economic abundance was the way of American
life and it was the promise of progressive era (Foner 736). Women employment participation was
increased so they were empowered. The increased discrimination and wealth inequality gave rise to
the Socialist Party, who called for immediate reforms in the education policies, legislation to improve
the life of labors and demanded democratic role of the economy through public ownership of
industries (Foner 741). The elected members of socialist party gave more respect and care to the
laborers and the middle class. They were more focused on equality. The government wanted to combat
the giant corporation and protect the consumers. The government was more experts oriented as they
did for the sake of justice (Foner 750). The federal government limited the state powers and increased

Consequentialism, By John Stuart Mill Essay
Consequentialism is a broad ethical theory that describes one s actions to be good or bad depending
solely upon the consequences of those actions. The distinguishing element of this theory from others
is that the action itself has no value without analyzing the expected consequences, as explained by
William H. Shaw in Consequentialism , ...when it comes to rightness or wrongness, nothing matters
but the results of our actions (Shaw 28). Then the question is, what exactly does it mean for a
consequence to be deemed good ? Utilitarianism, a more specific form of consequentialism, answers
this by describing a good action to be one that brings about the most happiness or well being for
everyone. John Stuart Mill states, The creed which accepts as the foundation of morals utility or the
greatest happiness principle holds that actions are right in proportion as they tend to promote
happiness: wrong as they tend to produce the reverse of happiness (Mill 7). This theory seems simple
when applied to everyday situations. However, it can become tricky when applied to more complex,
multi faceted, situations. Obviously there are differentiating levels of happiness. For example, in a
situation where it seems there may be no such thing as a happy outcome, the anticipated consequence
that is deemed to be the lesser of two evils would be perceived to bring about the most well being
compared to the other choice. This theory may also seem difficult because it is based on

Drunk History-Claudette Colvin And Rosa Parks
The Art to Influence Advertisements in television, movie, drama, and every aspect of entertainment
requires a series of action that appeals the audience, influences, or affects them. Various animal care
centers and foster homes advertise an emotional appeal to influence the audience to visit or help the
centers. Humors, sarcasms, and metaphors are the other techniques that helps the mass to influence or
connect with the product. Most of the advertisement, movies and even political campaigns use a great
amount of emotional (pathos), logical (logos) and ethical (ethos) beliefs to influence its audiences. The
first advertisement video on the list titled, Drunk History Claudette Colvin and Rosa Parks narrates the
story of a black woman leading to racial injustice. The video is narrated by a drunk women and thus
provides a pinch of humor in it. Usually a drunk woman (or a man) is not considered as a credible

Thomas Jefferson narrates the story of two presidential candidates (Adams and Jefferson) competing.
During the video both Adam and Jefferson use irrelevant piece of information in newspaper to degrade
each other s reputation. Such information published in the modern world is not possible since it is very
inaccurate and irrelevant. The information could also only happen if the two candidates were
competing in a un ethical manner in the real 1800 s. Writer Michael Austin in his book Reading The
World: Ideas That Matter describes a term False dilemma as a fallacy... [of] two issues if they are only
possible choices [in each] situation. (Austin 661) So, the video does not have logos on it. Also, the
language used on this video is not the language the candidates would be using during elections or any
time of their life. Thus this shows that absence of ethics on the presidents which leads the video to

Criminalization Vs Criminalization
1. Criminalization is a process where people outside of the dominant social norms is labeled as a
criminal, and is influenced by racism, sexism, and nationalism ideologies. In criminalization, laws are
made to make certain bodies and acts criminal, and is a multi step practice in which media
representation helps shape popular views of criminal behavior and criminals. Examples are laws
forbidding homosexuality and minimum sentencing for possession of drugs. A person can be
criminalized for same sex loving because it falls out of dominant heteronormativity, even though it
doesn t feel like a criminal act. The prison industrial complex is based on privatized prisons in which
companies profit from transporting, feeding, and housing prisoners, ... Show more content on

Politics and culture dictates what the dominant social norms are in terms of who you have intimate
relationships with and what behaviors are appropriate . These political and cultural influences hold
implications in the workplace. For example, if heteronormative values are predominant in the
workplace, a person who identifies as homosexual or has same sex inclinations may be more discreet
in engaging in their sexuality in order to fit in the culture and not prevented from moving to higher
positions.
3. Globalization is the process of integrating culture and economy among people, businesses, and
governments of different nations. It is facilitated by media, international financing institutions, trade
agreements, and national immigration policy. In terms of flows of products, companies can expand
globally through the international free market in order to exploit cheap labor in the production of
goods. The national market may be dominated by companies that expands their business overseas,
such as Walmart who imports products from more than 200,000 suppliers internationally. This can
produce inequalities on different levels. For one, there is a wealth disparity for corporations in the
Western world who are benefitting more than the people producing the goods, and typically the cheap
labor is found in countries that have unstable economies and therefore can be exploited. In addition,
local businesses face inequalities as they are outcompeted by companies in the global

Importance Of Human Rights
Human rights are rights inherent to all human beings, whatever their nationality, place of residence,
sex, national or ethnic origin, color, religion, language, or any other status. The principle of
universality of human rights is the foundation of international human rights law.
New York City Commission on Human Rights also committed to obey that, people are all equally
entitled to their human rights and to live free from discrimination. These rights are interrelated,
interdependent and indivisible. International human rights principles require states to promote and
protect all human rights and fundamental freedoms, regardless of their political, economic and cultural
systems.
Human rights are civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights. They include the right to work,
education, housing and health, traveling, marriage, religion and so forth. Human rights are based on
the convention and belief of value for the people. The fundamental assumptions of the human rights
are moral and rational to treat with dignity to every individual, because they are universal. No matters,
an individual, special groups or nations can enjoy certain rights which include only to them, they are
entitled for the human rights because they are living. Many people of the world still are restricted to
express their views so when they are questioned of human rights, certainly they answer only freedom
of speech and belief with some more but not limited to mentioning human rights is very

Dramatic Justice In Tartuffe By Myrna Zwillenberg
Myrna Kogan Zwillenberg s article Dramatic Justice in Tartuffe examines the all powerful king s
theatrical resolution of the story of Tartuffe . Zwillenberg writes It is so unexpected as to cast doubt
upon the dramatic coherence of the entire comedy (583). Zwillenberg concludes that the deus ex
machina (583) ending not only brings closure to the stories of Orgon and Tartuffe, but also restores the
comedic equilibrium that is upset by Tartuffe throughout the play. I agree in full with Myrna Kogan
Zwillenberg s assertion that the conclusion to Tartuffe brings a fitting end to the play in both dramatics
and comedy.
Zwillenberg begins by examining the injustice of Tartuffe and Orgon s actions. Zwillenberg writes
Dramatic justice... would seem to necessitate the punishment of Orgon and the hypocrite (584)
Mariane is unfairly given to marry Tartuffe. Tartuffe seemingly hypnotizes Orgon, and subsequently
runs away with many of his possessions, including the deed to his house. Both of these actions,
Zwillenberg argues, upset the equilibrium of the story. As with any story, ... Show more content on

Punishing Tartuffe by different means Zwellenberg writes such as judgement by the family... would
have still left unsolved the matter of Orgon s complicity (588) Zwillenberg notes that Orgon was as
complicit in the creation of Tartuffe as Tartuffe himself, thus he is as deserving a punishment as the
hypocrite. If Orgon s family were to triumph in judgement over Tartuffe, there are no consequences
for Orgon s unjust actions towards his family. Likewise, Tartuffe must be put into his place to bring
the story back into equilibrium (584). The king s grand entrance into the story satisfies both of these
requirements, Zwillenberg argues, by humbling Orgon and punishing Tartuffe in one smooth

Pros And Cons Of Fear Of Super Intelligence
Should we be scared of super intelligence? Superintelligence is an artificial intelligence that has its
own brain and can develop its own thoughts which is likely to be smarter than human in every aspects
including ability to work and social skills. Superintelligence can come in many forms of technology
including computers and robots. In today s world, there are many evidences which prove that
superintelligence exists in our society. There is no doubt why people to be scared of this kind of
technology that can think and make decisions on its own. With its abilities to evolve and self learn the

According to Arend Hintze, there are four different types of fear about artificial intelligence including
fear of unforeseen, fear of misuse, fear of wrong social priorities, and fear of the nightmare scenario;
the first fear being fear of unforeseen. Even if the designers of the superintelligence think they can
control what they have made, they might not understand what the machine is thinking. One of the
examples of the real world being AlphaGo, the computer program, have beaten the professional go
player from South korea, Lee Sedol, who is one of the best go players in the world. Go is one of the
most complex board games with the most simple rules where there are two players in which each one
of them takes turn placing one of the stones given (black or white) onto the 19 by 19 grid board. The
purpose of the game is to create as much territories surrounded by their own stones as possible. Once a
player s stones are circled by the other player s stones, those stones need to be removed from the
board. Since there is no artificial intelligence that have ever beat the brain of human before, the Alpha
go, which was developed by a team of twenty people, is considered one of the superintelligence.
These kinds of artificial intelligence system that can defeat human s brain could turn into something
scary in the future. Thus, humans should be aware of superintelligence and be responsible of what
they have

Case Study Of Demand For Fresh Potatoes
Demand for Fresh Potatoes:
Given the lack of reliable production and consumption data these are illustrative estimates only. Future
demand is derived using projected population statistics of 2002. The population in 2002 was 25
million and the population growth between 1991 2002 was 3.2 %, and by 2015 the projected
population growth as per an estimate would rise to 35 million. We also assume that potato demand
equals supply as there is no external potato trade between Uganda and other
Countries in the region. This would mean that any impact achieved through the adoption of new
Technologies, improved marketing or accelerated urbanisation would increase demand levels.
Assuming that with current growth of investments opportunities in Uganda and more FDI to flow in

potatoes. By an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Pigman Friend Quotes
Friends are the family you get to choose for yourself. (Mia Sheridan). People get to choose their
friends by their likes and dislikes, but they don t get to choose their family. In the book, The Pigman,
John, Lorraine, and Mr. Pignati demonstrate how friends can change the way their friends think, feel,

Young Americans For Freedom Analysis
In contrast, the American liberal ideologues of the time seemed to be swinging more and more to the
left even in the face of the now all powerful Soviet Union from which Rand had previously escaped.
While Eugene Debs ultimately never achieved a meaningful socialist coalition, the labor movements
of the early 20th century had continuously scored major victories in establishing unions and
increasingly stringent labor standards. By 1932, the Great Depression had destroyed much of the
earned material wealth of millions of Americans and left those same Americans with little in the way
of opportunity. Franklin Delano Roosevelt, a cousin of former President Teddy Roosevelt and an

Strong Centralized Government Essay
By the end of the early Middle Ages, the territories of both England and France had divided into
several small kingdoms, each governed by a separate leader. These kingdoms were in states of chaos
because they lacked a strong centralized government. By the 12th century, trade began to grow, which
led to the creation of towns. The towns citizens initially paid taxes to the feudal nobles, but with the
development of a strong middle class, taxes were paid to the king alone. Without tax income, the
nobles power weakened and the power of the king increased. Thus, a strong centralized government
began to form. As the French and English kings strengthened their power, established strong
centralized governments, and diminished the power of the nobles, ... Show more content on

The Magna Carta, a charter signed by King John in 1215, ensured that the people of England would
receive basic political rights such as Habeas Corpus, the right to a court trial, and no taxation without
representation. It also restrained the king s power by proclaiming that he was not above the law.
Although the Magna Carta did not strengthen the king s power, or relinquish that of the nobles , it was
an essential step in laying the foundation for democracy, as it gave the commoners a voice and
prevented the monarchs from ruling with absolute power. Soon after, Louis IX, king of France, created
the appeals court. The appeals court was where those who contradicted a court ruling could go, and it
had the power to [annul, quash] the local courts. This court was important, as it prevented the majority
of unjust and prejudiced punishments that could be ruled against someone. Both the Magna Carta and
the appeals court were fundamental in laying the foundation for democracy, because they granted the
commoners basic political rights and somewhat sheltered them from the law, Although, the Magna
Carta was more so, as it restrained the king s

First Was imagery used in this advertisement such as having Eva Longoria a well known famous actor

The Four Sources Of Moral Irrationality
When we think about moral obligations and their directional structure, this involves the obligations
that we have to other people. Obligations are owed to the benefactor (Timmons, 2015). This means
that a person is obligated to someone who tries to help another person in some way, shape or form. So,
let s say for example I promise you to walk your dog. Since I have promised you this I am not
fulfilling my promise because I told you I d walk your dog, or because I want to keep my promises to
you, but I fulfill my promise of walking your dog because you have the right to me walking your dog.
As we learned in our reading, you now own my action. You have the right to be angry or upset at me if
I fail to perform the act of walking your dog. You are able to demand me to perform that action. I
think the directionality has more to do with the relationship that is developed as a result of your
promising rather than how good the person you promised feels after you have performed the action.
Korsgaard says that humans naturally have the instinct to do what is right and not do what is wrong.
She goes on to explain the four conceptions for the sources of normativity of morality. I d like to go
over voluntarism and see how or if it aligns with moral obligation being directional in structure. The
first part discussed, is the that obligations derive from God. God is the relevant authority. It s saying, I
must act because God commands me to act. God, I believe, does not have anything

How Did Marx Contribute To A Crisis State Of Capitalism
In Capital, Marx is concerned with the cycle that Capitalism presents. The pattern of hiring labor
power to extract surplus value then lowering the exchange value of the commodities is striking to him.
It seems counterintuitive for a Capitalist, whose goal is to maximize profits, to continually lower the
value of their product and decrease their profits over time. Marx also highlights four detrimental
consequences that occur as a result of this pattern. All of these consequences are the basis for his
criticism of Capitalism. For Marx there is a distinction between labor and labor power. Labor is
simply the physical act of producing goods and services. On the other hand, labor power can be
defined as the capacity for one to produce. It is important to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It seems counterintuitive to Marx to start at the highest profit potential and sink over time. This is the
starting point for the other effects that result and characterize Marx s crisis state of Capitalism. First,
due to ruinous competition in Capitalism rate of profit falls. This is the trigger for the other tendencies
to follow. Capitalists must begin to work off of decreasing profit margins because of the product
lowering to its actual labor determined value. This falling profit impacts all capitalists and causes
them to realize lower profits over time. The decrease in profits leads to an effect on the production of
goods. Because the cost of production lowers, there becomes a point when too many of a single
product is made. This overproduction is detrimental to the business of the capitalist, because it
eventually requires them to sell for less than the value of the product. This is the same effect that
occurs as a result of competition. Overall, the loss of profit for the capitalists and the overproduction
leads to harmful consequences for the

Three Pseudoscientific Theories That Have Affiliated Evidence
This report will analyse three pseudoscientific theories that have affiliated evidence, though have not
been scientifically proven to be entirely factual. Throughout, the topics of The Paleo Diet, Lightning
never strikes the same place twice and Zodiac Signs make reference to theory as well as general
knowledge gained through personal research whilst providing a plausible adaptation. The Paleo Diet
The Paleo diet is a concept that has had an increase in popularity within the last decade. Otherwise
known as the Caveman or Stone Age diet, it involves the theory that for humans to live a cleaner and
healthier lifestyle, it should be based around a diet that our Palaeolithic ancestors would have
consumed. The diet portion of this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Particular elements would either thrive or diminish in the different climates therefore making the
modern version of the movement difficult to replicate. Accompanying this, the sources of protein
available now, would not be sufficient in terms of the leanness of the meat available in the Stone Age.
Therefore, the exact diet could either come as no benefit or a breakthrough in subsiding or at least
promoting ways to encourage good health behaviours. The theory behind this ultimately aims at
decreasing the percentage of overweight people and other affiliated health issues. Even after
evolutionary biologists analysed the remains of the Tyrolean Iceman (Keller et al., 2012) found in
Tisenjoch Pass in the Italian part of the Ötztal Alps , evidence of calcification in his major
cardiovascular arteries was found. This is an interesting development as the man was also seen to have
been lactose intolerant. This shows that the Paleo diet that he was consuming did not restrict the intake
of calcium, despite not consuming it in the way modern society does today in the form of dairy
products (Keller et al., 2012). The Paleo diet has recently come into the media with the publication of
the book The Paleo Solution by Cordain , an affiliation to the previous released work targeted at
athletes. Within this book, all of the theories behind the paleo diet are explored. By adapting ones diet
to a degree of that from the Palaeolithic era, paleo

Ownership And Sense Of Self
What does it mean to you when you own something? Is it the gratification that makes it rewarding? Or
is it the cost and struggle it took to buy it? Or how about what others think about your object?
Ownership and sense of self comes together as a perception of how we see ourself being an owner.
Buying something from a store or from a person makes it yours. When you buy something you re
paying for it in money that you earned which then makes it yours. People might say if they take an
object or find it, the object then belongs to them. They would be wrong since it would still belong to
that person even though they have it in their possession.
Ownership is important in a way that makes it a part of you. Mortimer J. Adler wrote, Full

especially if that person has shown themselves critical of the Trump administration. This algorithm
may classify them as terrorist simply because they don t agree with current policies while clearly
disagreeing on policy does not many a person a terrorist. There are many approaches and algorithms

to what the names suggest in which decision trees are made to make decisions and learn, association
rule learning is from discovering relations between variables, reinforcement learning is when it learns

human aspects of learning and behavior in AI. Due to these differences in learning, prejudice in AI is

The Dual Writing Style In Gillian Flynn s Gone Girl
Nick and Amy moved from New York City, where both were laid off from their previous jobs as
writers, to Nick s hometown of North Carthage, Missouri to care for Nick s cancer stricken mother
and his father with alzheimer s. The two have a quite imperfect marriage that is at times profoundly
one sided, but is disrupted when Amy goes missing. A search Amy quickly ensues, and as the
investigation progresses, the truth about Amy and Nick s not so wonderful marriage comes out for all
to see. In this journal I will be predicting the possibility of Nick s involvement in the case, questioning
why the detectives won t rule Nick out as a possible suspect, and evaluating the dual perspective
writing style in Gone Girl.

Along with the rotating viewpoints, the two stories being told, by Amy and Nick, happen at different
times through the collective story. I usually dislike this writing method, but in this plot, I think it
works well. I like that the two do not tell the same story from different perspectives but rather one tells
the story and the other follows with a background perspective that gives some insight as to the
reasoning behind the actions and motives of the characters in the present. In the case of this book,
Nick is narrating the investigation of Amy s disappearance as chapters of Amy s diary chronicle the
past relationship between the two counterparts. The two perspectives complement each other, but
neither spoil the storyline, as dual perspective books tend to do. For example, Amy often gives us
accounts from Nick and Amy s early relationship. Her discoveries from the dawn of their romance
shows how the opposite family structures of the two partners change how act in the present of their
relationship: People say children from broken homes have it hard, but the children of charmed
marriages have their own particular challenges (Flynn 27). The two narrators of the story give a deep
understanding of the motives and actions without giving too many details that might spoil the future of

Turning Points In Macbeth
Ask any successful person to look back over the events of his or her life, and chances are there ll be be

same ideas as William Shakespeare. In the play Macbeth, William Shakespeare develops the idea that
turning points are significant because they open up a new chapter of someone s life. More specifically,

Malcolm s turning point is when his father, the king, wa killed. During this time he had to make a
choice; mourn the death of his father or flee the country, to become stronger and wiser. We know what

well known productions. This shows how it is known what he is or was; the king s son, but it is not
known what he may become. He was then next in line for the throne and must take up such
responsibility. The King s unexpected death opened the door for Malcolm to grow up, and take
responsibility into his own hands. Instead of becoming cowardly over the fact that his father was
murdered, and thus he too might be, Malcolm became stronger and evolved as a young man to restore
his country and avenge his father s death. Although what happened to cause the turning point in
Malcolm s case, the death of his father, was not something anyone should wish upon anyone else, but
for himself as a person and as a young man, it was for the better, not worse. It gave him a chance to

Do we survive death?
Recall: In the Do we survive Death? the most important questions that Rachels has tried to make are
several points 1) is our soul immortal? 2) Argument on if we can really have another life after death?
3) If we believe in another life, reincarnation and psychics who claim to communicate with dead then
why do they do they have to do different tricks, or lie that the evidence has occurred? 4) If we have
life then why do scientist don t believe in it? 5) Should we believe in miracles?
Summary: In this chapter Rachel has argued on the title do we survive death? The chapter talks about
how Socrates believes in life after death. According to Rachels, Socrates argues that soul can never be
destroyed. Soul cannot be burned or it cannot be ripped apart, overall Socrates believes that soul is
immortal. However the scientist have not proved it correct and they don t believe in the existence of
soul theory. Modern science talks about the mind, emotion, genetics, environment but they do not talk

Imperforate Anus Research Paper
The anus is an opening where bowel movements, or stool, leave the body. Imperforate anus is a birth
defect in which the anus is missing, blocked, or in the wrong place. Imperforate anus can usually be
corrected with surgery. The goal of surgery is to create a safe way for stool to leave the body.
Imperforate anus repair is usually done when your child is 1 or 2 days old. Additional surgeries may
be done later in childhood. There are several types of repair surgeries. The type of surgery your child
will have depends on your child s specific condition and overall health:
In mild cases, a surgery called perineal anoplasty may be done.
For more severe cases, a temporary surgery called a colostomy may be done. In a colostomy, an

For a posterior sagittal anorectoplasty:
Depending on the specific abnormality, the surgery may require incisions on the abdomen, the
buttocks, or both.
An opening will be made where the anus is supposed to be.
The rectum will be moved and then pulled down to the new opening on the bottom.
If a fistula is seen, the surgeon will close it at this time.
If the child has a colostomy, it usually is left as is for a few months.
AFTER THE PROCEDURE
Your child will stay in a recovery area until the anesthesia has worn off. His or her blood pressure and
heart rate will be checked often. Usually a parent or guardian will be able to hold him or her once he
or she starts to wake up. When recovered from the anesthesia, he or she will be moved to an intensive
care area or to a general hospital room.
Most children stay in the hospital for at least a few days after the surgery. This varies based on the
child s age and on the type of surgery that was done.
A cream may be put on the area around the new anus. This protects it from the diaper rash that often
develops because of frequent bowel movements.

Of Mice And Men Are White
For the most part, the characters in Of Mice and Men are white males, with two very important
exceptions: Curleys wife, who is central to the stores, and the marginalized, stable buck who is
referred to only as Crooks.236 His presence in the novel adds a considerable amount of thematic
power. Chapter 4 is entirely framed around him. Yet this character presents something of a challenge
for African American readers, especially for the younger generation. Not just a literary question, but
rather one of the most important cultural problems facing African American society. Black Americans
have always been acutely sensitive to the fictional portraits of themselves created by white Americans
in the early 20th century, even with those portraits as sympathetic as the one Steinbeck offers us. All
the black Americans, and all people belonging to a racial or ethnic minority in a predominately white
setting, must learn at a very early age to read all manner of phenomenon from the nuanced and
polyvalent standpoint of a bi fold conscience. From this vantage point, one can see simultaneous night
and day Historically, black Americans, Asians, and Hispanics had to develop this epistemic skill set,
requiring a lot of work. It became incumbent upon them to know the white curriculum and its
assumptions as well if not better than white students beside them.237 The universal theme of
loneliness and homelessness appears differently in this novel, revealing its most radical dimensions

Scholarships are something that are often associated with the thought of college athletics, and are used
as a way to bring individuals to a particular university. These are an important part of building a team
of the best athletes possible. At the University of South Florida, scholarship opportunities for
cheerleaders are very minimal. With $24,000 yearly given to this team for this purpose, $500
maximum is available to each student ( Operating Budget ). Due to this lack of funding, many
members of the team must have outside jobs in order to make do throughout the school year. Having a
job, as well as participating in the 25+ hours of cheerleading related activities, and maintaining
eligibility GPA can put a large strain on the athlete ( USF Spirit Squads ).

What Is The Rising Tide Of Nationalism In Trade
Responding to the Rising Tide of Nationalism in Trade: Evolving the Nation s Role to Make Trade
Great Again
21119851
University of Western Australia
I INTRODUCTION
A resurgence of rising nationalism in recent years has prompted a slew of trade protectionist policies
defending against the perceived threat to national sovereignty by trade globalisation. Recent trends in
trade demonstrate a shifting reliance towards bilateral agreements and regional trading while shrinking
away from multilateral participation. This implementation of nationalist trade protectionism has in
solitude served to corrode the openness, trade, and global growth which vitally fuel the national
interests which these ideologies seek to defend. While ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a matter of practice, nationalism frequently entails the implementation of policy which seeks to
reclaim national resources from foreign groups, and redistribute those resources to the nation s citizens
or government. This may be achieved through trade protectionism practices: where governments
intentionally safeguard domestic industry from foreign competition, usually through policy regulation
including tariffs or import quotas. By contrast, globalisation prioritises the exchange of goods and
services, the interaction of people, and the sharing of information and technology across nations as
enabled through domestic policy and international agreement. The prosperity of any nation is therefore
intertwined with the prosperity of others, creating an environment of the shared pursuit of national
interest, which fosters the sharing of success between nations through communal global growth.
B Modern Resurgence of Nationalism
The WTO has warned that the recent global increase in nationalism may threaten the global economy
more than any time in recent history, stating that as long as global economic weakness persists,
protectionist pressure will build and could eventually become overwhelming . As economic stagnation
continues, both dominant and emerging economies are now implementing policy designed to
safeguard against the employment losses, high ratio of capital outflow, and foreign exploitation which
threaten to undermine their national economic interests.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Supply chain management is a major concern in many industries as companies realize the importance
of creating an integrated relationship with their suppliers and customers. Managing the supply chain
has become a way of improving competitiveness by reducing uncertainty and improving service. One
aspect of successfully managing the supply chain requires that a company understand their logistical
strategies and practices.
Personal interviews with logistics managers employed by firms from the Twin Cities Round Table
suggest the following issues are important to supply chain management.
C
Firms believe supply chain management is a fundamental change in industry.
C
Six characteristics define current supply chain management philosophy.
1. Shared Information
2. Organizational Relationships
3. Inventory Management
4. Total Pipeline Coordination
5. Firm Flexibility
6. Costing Issues
C
There are three major reasons for establishing supply chains.
1. To reduce inventory investment in the chain
2. To increase customer service
3. To help build a competitive advantage for the channel
C
Information is crucial and drives the entire supply chain system.
C
Third parties are becoming popular and will continue to be important for having a cost

What Does The Ballad Of Flannery Street Mean
The Ballad of Calvary Street by James K. Baxter is a poem used effectively in order to develop the
key idea of appearance vs.reality. This idea is developed in the poem to reinforce idea of Baxter s
underlying dislike for modern suburbanised society. He struggled throughout his life to understand
modernized society. Growing up as a Catholic, he eventually came to an epiphany and realised the
New Zealand he knew was filled with hypocritical middle class values that he did not respect. In this
poem, we are given an insight into these ideas. This poem is relevant to New Zealanders, as James K.
Baxter appeared to evaluate New Zealand society harshly and his judgements were always from the
perspective of one intimately involved in the social process. James K. Baxter, who found intolerable
depersonalisation, centralisation and decentralisation of urban civilisation could still find reason for
hope in the hearts of people . His criticisms of national life and his ultimate decision to step out of the
mainstream are admired by many. He incorporates the extensive use of religious ... Show more content

These types of imagery helped readers to understand the misinterpretation of the Baxter family and
how dull the suburban life really is. The first religious symbol is in the title of the poem Ballad of
Calvary Street. This is ironic because Calvary Street is the street which Jesus walked to his place of
crucifixion, therefore having this street name as the title of the poem suggests that the street is not a
nice place to live. Another religious image James K. Baxter created throughout the poem was hammer
nails which is symbolism for Jesus being hung of the cross and white trellises is imagery created to
represent the cross Jesus was hung on. Throughout the poem there is also a lot of repetition, which
emphasises the idea of the dull life that the family lives

Differences Between Early China And Qing Dynasty
Early China and the Qing Dynasty are not too different from each other. Which is surprising,
considering they Early China is at the beginning of recorded history for China and the Qing Dynasty is
the last dynasty to rule. Although, gender equality can be considered the same for both societies, they
are actually different since the Qing Dynasty started to change during the end of its reign. Both Early
China and the Qing Dynasty went through major changes in history. Early China is the beginning of
the dynasties, as we know it, so a bunch of new items and product were founded during this period.
The Qing Dynasty changed the education for women in China and also helped change the way people
treated women. Early China and the Qing Dynasty are far apart, in terms of years, and were so similar
yet so different at the same time. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They could learn to read, write, do math and farm work. Women, on the other hand, were looked
down upon. They were only taught housework like: Sewing, cooking, taking care of the children, and
obeying the man of the house. Whether it be the dad, husband, or son, the women always had to obey
the man in charge. The belief that a women always obeyed the man, and the man being superior to
women, lasted until the end of the last dynasty.
The Qing Dynasty was not too different from Early China. They did not like the modern ideas and
tried to stay away from them. The boys were still the only ones getting an education and women were
still looked down upon. The Qing Dynasty was closed off, they only taught their boys ancient texts
and religions. None of the modern ideas or ways of thinking were around during that period. .It wasn t
until 1911 that people started to think in a modern way. Missionaries wanted/created schools for girls
and tried to be like other countries. The Qing empire apposed this, however, which lead to the
downfall of the

Growing Up in I Stand Here Ironing Essay
Growing up
The oppression of women by society has never been a secret. Many times it has been documented in
works of literature, and one classical example of this occurrence is I Stand Here Ironing by Tillie
Olsen. This story illustrates the consequences of oppression in women s lives.
The story leads the reader on an exploratory journey to witness the neglect by Emily s extremely
guilty mother. This is described by the children s cry when they are left with strangers, lacking
attention and love due to the fact she is a single parent at a time where this was not commonly
accepted in the community, causing a lot of emotional distress.
The mother s pain and torment is apparent from the very beginning of the story. Her ... Show more

There is irony in this story in that it begins with a nineteen year old Emily, the same age of the mother
at Emily s birth, I was nineteen. It was the pre relief, pre WPA world of depression (Olsen, 368). The
societal changes and different expectations for women are illustrated through the description of Emily
as a single college student and assertive, while her mom was a product of the 1930 s, uneducated,
forced to work very young to make ends meet.
While Emily has the advantage of a contemporary upbringing, she is still vulnerable and fearful as an
adult, as she was a lonely, sick and unpopular child. When she finally came I hardly knew her,
walking quick and nervous like her father, looking like her father, thin, and dressed in a shoddy red
that yellowed her skin and glared at the pockmarks (Olsen, 368).
In many ways, the mother has control over Emily s destiny, which seems to relinquish weakly. For
example, she didn t have to bear other children, knowing she was struggling with Emily, emotionally,
physically, and financially. It seems as though she didn t even give her new marriage time to develop
before there were new babies and responsibilities kept on upon her. She seems to approach life
ignorantly, simply succumbing to her circumstances in a passive

The Debate Regarding the Use of Native American Mascots...
Teams in every sport, at every level of competition, have a mascot. It is the mascot that represents the
competitive spirit and team identity, motivating players and fans alike. Does the symbol chosen as a
mascot have any impact on whether a team wins or loses? Unlikely. But the choice of a Native
American mascot continues to ignite debate and controversy among athletes, fans and alumni, as well
as those people who might otherwise be disinterested in sports. Why all the controversy? The dispute
over whether Native American mascots should be used as a team symbol dates back to the 1970 s
(Price 2). There are those who are passionately against Native American mascots. These advocators
insist that Native American mascots are degrading to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, it seems odd to suggest that naming a team after an Indian tribe is a calculated insult. A team or
school embraces a mascot that represents the favorable traits and characteristics of its members. Such
is the case with the Florida State Seminoles, who are named after a tribe with its origin in that
southern state. The Seminole tribe optimistically favored the use of the Indian mascot and even
facilitated the design of authentic dress that is proudly worn at sporting and community events.
Similar to the Seminoles, the University of Illinois preserved their mascot, Chief Illiniwek, for almost
80 years. Named after the indigenous Illiniwek tribe, the Chief was a customary sideline figure at
football and basketball games until 2007 when the NCAA forced the University of Illinois to remove
this historic mascot. Unfortunately, the collegiate governing body failed to realize what this symbol
meant to the collegiate Illinois community. Illini students were polled regarding the action and a
majority disapproved of the decision. Sixty nine percent of the students voted to keep Chief Illiniwek
as their mascot. (Haugh). These students believed that removing Chief Illiniwek as the University of
Illinois mascot would diminish the passion associated with their university. After the forceful removal
of the Native American mascot by the NCAA, the students felt

The First Amendment Speaks On The Freedoms Of Religion
Hannah Bing
Judy Hatcher
WRIT 3037
17 October 2016
Free Art The First Amendment speaks on the freedoms of religion, speech, press, assembly and
petition; so important, they found their place in the US Constitution. Even with these freedoms
meaning so much to the majority of America, somehow today we still encounter differences in
political and religious views that seem to provoke people to act violently against a piece of art or even
physically against the artist that created it such as in the recent case of artist Illma Gore. Often the
violent action of destroying a work of art is more offensive than the image itself. We should allow
artists free reign of subject matter as well as style and work together to prevent art desecration and
violence through education of the arts. Censorship is the result of the fear of art. When the fear of art
turns into iconoclasm or, rejection of a valued belief system, that fear becomes lack of government
funding, desecration, and physical violence.
Visual artists fell through the gaps and did not receive federal support for their work until the creation
of the NEA or National Endowment for the Arts in 1965. This federal program had little funding but
proved a growing interest in art and art viewing from the public. This demand for art creates a demand
for funds to support venues and museums so they can keep their doors open. A problem with the NEA
is that they provide government funding, which prevents them from being biased about

  • 2. Personal Note On Social Acceptance Social Acceptance When starting this personal change project, I found it easy to find a subject for me to change because it was something that I had wanted to do for a long time. I am a people pleaser. I am controlled by people s opinion of me. Plain and simple, I want to be accepted. It is exhausting, and not possible. To begin to change, I had to embrace the reason s I was a people pleaser and needed others acceptance. Acceptance and Rejection The need for acceptance always comes with the fear of rejection. The need for acceptance is a powerful motivator, but the fear of rejection can be even scarier. We can all think of a time where we were rejected, and when thinking on that memory, and I bet you can still feel the sting. Fear of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Need to belong Nathan DeWall, a Psychologist at the University of Kentucky says that Humans have a fundamental need to belong. Just as we have needs for food and water, we also have needs for positive and lasting relationships. The need to belong can be so strong that we are willing to change who we are just to belong to a group. Most times it is small changes. For people who are people pleasers, we will go out of our way to help others, even if that means we are neglecting ourselves, just to get their approval. Self Esteem and Rejection According to Geraldine Downey, PH. D., professor of psychology at Columbia University, Research says that people whose self esteem is lower will experience rejection as more painful, and it ll take them a little longer to get over it, he says. Meanwhile, those who have higher self esteem but who aren t narcissists tend to be more resilient. Rejection for someone with low self esteem is more damaging because they are less resilient to the hurt. A step that I have only begun to work on is my view of myself. I am not comfortable with who I am. I am always conforming to what others want me to be because I don t have confidence in my true self. It is easier to be who others want you to be then to be who you really are. There is less rejection, if you go along with others idea of who you should be. • 3. Roxy Paine, Conjoined Essay The piece of art that I have chosen is Roxy Paine s Conjoined created in 2007. This is a representational piece depicting a pair of trees taken from nature and joined by their branches. The trees themselves are cylindrical, smooth and shiny from all angles. They reflect light from all sides creating a mirror like appearance. The branches initially flow upward but then gradually flow into the middle where they are conjoined. They are located in Madison Square Park where they seem to blend in with the rest of the trees but they definitely manage to stand out. Because they serve no function other than visual I consider this sculpture to be fine art. Roxy Paine welds cylindrical stainless steel pipes and rods to form and shape these two ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Stainless steel is more expensive than standard steel. Paine has studied and observed they way trees grow and this has allowed him to form his own artistic rendition. Paine uses the visual element of Direction and Movement to make the trees appear like they are growing into each other or being pulled apart. The branches are tapering at the tips and flowing to the side almost like a windstorm is blowing them over. Looking at the trees you get a real sense of struggle between forces. They look like they are pulling apart but at the same time trying to overtake one another. He also uses the visual element of Shape and Mass. The trees are 3D representation of actual trees. They are over 40 foot tall and very heavy; therefore they consume a large amount of volume and mass. The trees appear to be constructed from geometric shapes but also try to follow the form of nature in a more organic way. Since the two trees are a sculpture they are naturally 3D but their reflection caused by light shining on the stainless steel reminds us of their intricate details. The trees have a very strong gray monochromatic earth tone caused by the steel. A Principle of Design that Paine emphasizes is Unity. The trees are conjoined, rendering them as one, as a whole, they are in unison. The trees appear to be to scale when compared to the other trees in the park. They are not too small nor do the feel out of place. There is a strong emphasis near the middle of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Consequentialism, By John Stuart Mill Essay Consequentialism is a broad ethical theory that describes one s actions to be good or bad depending solely upon the consequences of those actions. The distinguishing element of this theory from others is that the action itself has no value without analyzing the expected consequences, as explained by William H. Shaw in Consequentialism , ...when it comes to rightness or wrongness, nothing matters but the results of our actions (Shaw 28). Then the question is, what exactly does it mean for a consequence to be deemed good ? Utilitarianism, a more specific form of consequentialism, answers this by describing a good action to be one that brings about the most happiness or well being for everyone. John Stuart Mill states, The creed which accepts as the foundation of morals utility or the greatest happiness principle holds that actions are right in proportion as they tend to promote happiness: wrong as they tend to produce the reverse of happiness (Mill 7). This theory seems simple when applied to everyday situations. However, it can become tricky when applied to more complex, multi faceted, situations. Obviously there are differentiating levels of happiness. For example, in a situation where it seems there may be no such thing as a happy outcome, the anticipated consequence that is deemed to be the lesser of two evils would be perceived to bring about the most well being compared to the other choice. This theory may also seem difficult because it is based on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For one, there is a wealth disparity for corporations in the Western world who are benefitting more than the people producing the goods, and typically the cheap labor is found in countries that have unstable economies and therefore can be exploited. Zwillenberg concludes that the deus ex machina (583) ending not only brings closure to the stories of Orgon and Tartuffe, but also restores the comedic equilibrium that is upset by Tartuffe throughout the play. I agree in full with Myrna Kogan Zwillenberg s assertion that the conclusion to Tartuffe brings a fitting end to the play in both dramatics and comedy. Zwillenberg begins by examining the injustice of Tartuffe and Orgon s actions. • 20. The Four Sources Of Moral Irrationality When we think about moral obligations and their directional structure, this involves the obligations that we have to other people. Obligations are owed to the benefactor (Timmons, 2015). This means that a person is obligated to someone who tries to help another person in some way, shape or form. So, let s say for example I promise you to walk your dog. Since I have promised you this I am not fulfilling my promise because I told you I d walk your dog, or because I want to keep my promises to you, but I fulfill my promise of walking your dog because you have the right to me walking your dog. As we learned in our reading, you now own my action. You have the right to be angry or upset at me if I fail to perform the act of walking your dog. You are able to demand me to perform that action. I think the directionality has more to do with the relationship that is developed as a result of your promising rather than how good the person you promised feels after you have performed the action. Korsgaard says that humans naturally have the instinct to do what is right and not do what is wrong. She goes on to explain the four conceptions for the sources of normativity of morality. I d like to go over voluntarism and see how or if it aligns with moral obligation being directional in structure. The first part discussed, is the that obligations derive from God. God is the relevant authority. It s saying, I must act because God commands me to act. God, I believe, does not have anything ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 21. How Did Marx Contribute To A Crisis State Of Capitalism In Capital, Marx is concerned with the cycle that Capitalism presents. The pattern of hiring labor power to extract surplus value then lowering the exchange value of the commodities is striking to him. It seems counterintuitive for a Capitalist, whose goal is to maximize profits, to continually lower the value of their product and decrease their profits over time. Marx also highlights four detrimental consequences that occur as a result of this pattern. All of these consequences are the basis for his criticism of Capitalism. For Marx there is a distinction between labor and labor power. Labor is simply the physical act of producing goods and services. On the other hand, labor power can be defined as the capacity for one to produce. It is important to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It seems counterintuitive to Marx to start at the highest profit potential and sink over time. This is the starting point for the other effects that result and characterize Marx s crisis state of Capitalism. First, due to ruinous competition in Capitalism rate of profit falls. This is the trigger for the other tendencies to follow. Capitalists must begin to work off of decreasing profit margins because of the product lowering to its actual labor determined value. This falling profit impacts all capitalists and causes them to realize lower profits over time. The decrease in profits leads to an effect on the production of goods. Because the cost of production lowers, there becomes a point when too many of a single product is made. This overproduction is detrimental to the business of the capitalist, because it eventually requires them to sell for less than the value of the product. This is the same effect that occurs as a result of competition. Overall, the loss of profit for the capitalists and the overproduction leads to harmful consequences for the ... The Paleo Diet The Paleo diet is a concept that has had an increase in popularity within the last decade. Particular elements would either thrive or diminish in the different climates therefore making the modern version of the movement difficult to replicate. Accompanying this, the sources of protein available now, would not be sufficient in terms of the leanness of the meat available in the Stone Age. Therefore, the exact diet could either come as no benefit or a breakthrough in subsiding or at least promoting ways to encourage good health behaviours. The theory behind this ultimately aims at decreasing the percentage of overweight people and other affiliated health issues. Even after evolutionary biologists analysed the remains of the Tyrolean Iceman (Keller et al., 2012) found in Tisenjoch Pass in the Italian part of the Ötztal Alps , evidence of calcification in his major cardiovascular arteries was found. This is an interesting development as the man was also seen to have been lactose intolerant. This shows that the Paleo diet that he was consuming did not restrict the intake of calcium, despite not consuming it in the way modern society does today in the form of dairy products (Keller et al., 2012). The Paleo diet has recently come into the media with the publication of the book The Paleo Solution by Cordain , an affiliation to the previous released work targeted at athletes. Within this book, all of the theories behind the paleo diet are explored. By adapting ones diet to a degree of that from the Palaeolithic era, paleo ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Or how about what others think about your object? Ownership and sense of self comes together as a perception of how we see ourself being an owner. Buying something from a store or from a person makes it yours. When you buy something you re paying for it in money that you earned which then makes it yours. People might say if they take an object or find it, the object then belongs to them. They would be wrong since it would still belong to that person even though they have it in their possession. In the case of this book, Nick is narrating the investigation of Amy s disappearance as chapters of Amy s diary chronicle the past relationship between the two counterparts. As a matter of practice, nationalism frequently entails the implementation of policy which seeks to reclaim national resources from foreign groups, and redistribute those resources to the nation s citizens or government. This may be achieved through trade protectionism practices: where governments intentionally safeguard domestic industry from foreign competition, usually through policy regulation including tariffs or import quotas. By contrast, globalisation prioritises the exchange of goods and services, the interaction of people, and the sharing of information and technology across nations as enabled through domestic policy and international agreement. The prosperity of any nation is therefore intertwined with the prosperity of others, creating an environment of the shared pursuit of national interest, which fosters the sharing of success between nations through communal global growth. This idea is developed in the poem to reinforce idea of Baxter s underlying dislike for modern suburbanised society. He struggled throughout his life to understand modernized society. Growing up as a Catholic, he eventually came to an epiphany and realised the New Zealand he knew was filled with hypocritical middle class values that he did not respect. In this poem, we are given an insight into these ideas. This poem is relevant to New Zealanders, as James K. • 41. Growing Up in I Stand Here Ironing Essay Growing up The oppression of women by society has never been a secret. Many times it has been documented in works of literature, and one classical example of this occurrence is I Stand Here Ironing by Tillie Olsen. This story illustrates the consequences of oppression in women s lives. The story leads the reader on an exploratory journey to witness the neglect by Emily s extremely guilty mother. This is described by the children s cry when they are left with strangers, lacking attention and love due to the fact she is a single parent at a time where this was not commonly accepted in the community, causing a lot of emotional distress. The mother s pain and torment is apparent from the very beginning of the story. Her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is irony in this story in that it begins with a nineteen year old Emily, the same age of the mother at Emily s birth, I was nineteen. It was the pre relief, pre WPA world of depression (Olsen, 368). The societal changes and different expectations for women are illustrated through the description of Emily as a single college student and assertive, while her mom was a product of the 1930 s, uneducated, forced to work very young to make ends meet. While Emily has the advantage of a contemporary upbringing, she is still vulnerable and fearful as an adult, as she was a lonely, sick and unpopular child. When she finally came I hardly knew her, walking quick and nervous like her father, looking like her father, thin, and dressed in a shoddy red that yellowed her skin and glared at the pockmarks (Olsen, 368). In many ways, the mother has control over Emily s destiny, which seems to relinquish weakly. For example, she didn t have to bear other children, knowing she was struggling with Emily, emotionally, physically, and financially. It seems as though she didn t even give her new marriage time to develop before there were new babies and responsibilities kept on upon her. She seems to approach life ignorantly, simply succumbing to her circumstances in a passive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. The Debate Regarding the Use of Native American Mascots... Teams in every sport, at every level of competition, have a mascot. It is the mascot that represents the competitive spirit and team identity, motivating players and fans alike. Does the symbol chosen as a mascot have any impact on whether a team wins or loses? Unlikely. But the choice of a Native American mascot continues to ignite debate and controversy among athletes, fans and alumni, as well as those people who might otherwise be disinterested in sports. Why all the controversy? The dispute over whether Native American mascots should be used as a team symbol dates back to the 1970 s (Price 2). There are those who are passionately against Native American mascots. These advocators insist that Native American mascots are degrading to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus, it seems odd to suggest that naming a team after an Indian tribe is a calculated insult. A team or school embraces a mascot that represents the favorable traits and characteristics of its members. Such is the case with the Florida State Seminoles, who are named after a tribe with its origin in that southern state. The Seminole tribe optimistically favored the use of the Indian mascot and even facilitated the design of authentic dress that is proudly worn at sporting and community events. Similar to the Seminoles, the University of Illinois preserved their mascot, Chief Illiniwek, for almost 80 years. Named after the indigenous Illiniwek tribe, the Chief was a customary sideline figure at football and basketball games until 2007 when the NCAA forced the University of Illinois to remove this historic mascot. Unfortunately, the collegiate governing body failed to realize what this symbol meant to the collegiate Illinois community. Illini students were polled regarding the action and a majority disapproved of the decision. Sixty nine percent of the students voted to keep Chief Illiniwek as their mascot. (Haugh). These students believed that removing Chief Illiniwek as the University of Illinois mascot would diminish the passion associated with their university. After the forceful removal of the Native American mascot by the NCAA, the students felt ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. The First Amendment Speaks On The Freedoms Of Religion Hannah Bing Judy Hatcher WRIT 3037 17 October 2016 Free Art The First Amendment speaks on the freedoms of religion, speech, press, assembly and petition; so important, they found their place in the US Constitution. Even with these freedoms meaning so much to the majority of America, somehow today we still encounter differences in political and religious views that seem to provoke people to act violently against a piece of art or even physically against the artist that created it such as in the recent case of artist Illma Gore. Often the violent action of destroying a work of art is more offensive than the image itself. We should allow artists free reign of subject matter as well as style and work together to prevent art desecration and violence through education of the arts. Censorship is the result of the fear of art. When the fear of art turns into iconoclasm or, rejection of a valued belief system, that fear becomes lack of government funding, desecration, and physical violence. Visual artists fell through the gaps and did not receive federal support for their work until the creation of the NEA or National Endowment for the Arts in 1965. This federal program had little funding but proved a growing interest in art and art viewing from the public. This demand for art creates a demand for funds to support venues and museums so they can keep their doors open. A problem with the NEA is that they provide government funding, which prevents them from being biased about ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
