Sat Essay
Crafting an essay on the subject of the "SAT Essay" can prove to be a challenging endeavor.
This challenge is not merely rooted in the complexity of the topic itself but is also deeply
embedded in the multifaceted nature of the SAT essay as a whole. The task demands a delicate
balance of analytical skills, critical thinking, and effective communication – all within a
limited time frame.
Firstly, the essay requires a comprehensive understanding of the SAT essay prompt, which often
revolves around complex issues, societal trends, or philosophical concepts. Tackling these
prompts demands a solid foundation in various subject areas and the ability to synthesize
information coherently.
Additionally, the SAT essay evaluates one's capability to analyze the provided text and construct
a persuasive argument in response. This involves keen attention to detail, a nuanced
understanding of rhetoric, and the skill to dissect the author's intent and techniques.
Time management poses another hurdle. The constrained time allotted for the SAT essay
necessitates quick thinking and efficient organization of thoughts. Juggling between reading the
passage, formulating a thesis, and producing a well-structured essay within the designated
timeframe is undoubtedly a daunting task.
Moreover, mastering the art of balancing evidence and analysis is crucial. The essay must
showcase a command of relevant examples and data while maintaining a thoughtful and
insightful analysis of the prompt. Striking this equilibrium is no easy feat and often requires
practice and refinement of writing skills.
In conclusion, writing an essay on the topic of the "SAT Essay" is a multifaceted challenge that
demands a confluence of skills – from content knowledge to analytical prowess to effective
time management. Success in this endeavor hinges on a holistic approach to essay writing,
encompassing comprehension, analysis, and articulation.

Theme Of Blindness In Raymond Carver s Cathedral
Blindness is not limited to physical manifestation. In Raymond Carver s Cathedral,
the figurative blindness is immediately apparent through the narrator and his
shallowness, irrational jealousy, and egotistical personality. His dismissive behavior
and ignorance towards the feelings of Robert, his wife s blind friend, speak
negatively of his character and reveals his insecurities. While the narrator s emotional
blindnessand Robert s physical blindness initially inhibits their bond, it eventually
leads the narrator to an epiphany and the beginning of a character transformation. The
different forms of blindness allow the characters to bond and grow over the course of
the story.
Throughout Robert s visit, the narrator makes snide and insensitive remarks, despite
his wife s wishes. His misunderstanding of relationships and people is his visible
flaw. It isn t until the narrator ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He makes this clear in the opening paragraph of the story where he says I wasn t
enthusiastic about his visit. He was no one I knew. And his being blind bothered
me. My idea of blindness came from the movies. In the movies, the blind moved
slowly and never laughed. Sometimes they were led by seeing eye dogs. A blind
man in my house was not something I looked forward to (Carver 1). The narrator
dismisses Robert in the same manner a white racist may dismiss an African
American. His prejudice, or any prejudice, is preconceived based on superficial
qualities rather than actual experience or reason. It is evident the narrator can t see
beyond Robert s disability and is judging Robert because of a characteristic that
makes him uncomfortable. This unconscious placement of Robert into an atypical
category prevents him from seeing Robert as an individual. The narrator does not
see Robert as a whole person, but solely as a blind man. Part of what makes the
narrator emotionally blind is this
Andre Dubus And The Fat Girl
Andre Dubus was a very creative writer. His parents, Andre Dubus and Katherine
Dubus, took a very big role in his life. They took care of him and helped him get
through college, and college is where his writing career had begun. He had two
sisters growing up as well that supported him. He had a lot of great works in his
life, and The Fat Girl was one of his most famous works he had ever written. He had
a lot of awards throughout his writingcareer and had many influences on a lot of
different people. Andre s early life affected how he became a famous writer.
Andre Dubus grew up in a good and lovely household. He was born in Lake
Charles, Louisiana on August 11, 1963 ( Dubus, Andre ). He was the son of Andre
Dubus Sr. and Katherine Burke Dubus ( Dubus, Andre ). His father, Andre Dubus
Sr.,. was a civil engineer who loved golf and smoked a great deal ( Dubus, Andre ).
His mother, Katherine Burke Dubus, would always listen to her Opera on cold
and snowy Saturday afternoons. Growing up, he was the only boy out of the three
children. He had two sisters that were named Baton Rouge and Lafayette. He grew
up more in the lower middle class, and the high school Andre Dubus had attended
was called Christian Brothers Cathedral High School. He went to McNeese State
college, getting his BA in 1958. ( Dubus, Andre ) After getting his bachelor s degree
and marrying a girl by the name of Patricia Lowe, he got enrolled in the military. In

The Spokane Indian Reservation
Throughout the novel, Alexie addresses the underlying theme of poverty by
highlighting the extreme class differences between the story s two main settings: the
Spokane Indian Reservation and the town of Reardan, Washington. The contrasting
locations of a severely impoverished native American reservation and the upscale
white community surrounding it are key factors in the development of Arnold s
identity; he attempts to escape the toxic culture of depression, alcoholism, and
despair on the reservation by abandoning the poverty of his hometown and attending
a white school which, upon first glance, seems full of optimism and opportunity.
Arnold particularly emphasizes the poverty of the reservation by explicitly
characterizing himself as, ...just... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the beginning of the novel, Arnold only recognizes dreams and hopes as missed
opportunities; for example, his mother and father, dreamed about being something
other than poor, but they never got the chance to be anything because nobody paid
attention to their dreams (Alexie 11). As a result of his parents inability to achieve
their goals, Arnold believes that achieving his dreams might be impossible as
well; this is evident when he states, But we reservation Indians don t get to realize
our dreams. We don t get those chances. Or choices. We re just poor. That s all we
are (Alexie 13). For Arnold, feelings of defeat and hopelessness are part of what
reservation life and being native American means; thus, in order for him to follow his
dreams he must abandon his life on the
Essay Music Copyright
What is a Copyright?
Music Copyright is a very important aspect of the music industry. The Copyright law
was established to preserve the creativity and rights of authors, composers, performers
of expression. Copyright is the law that protects the property rights of the creator of
an original work in a fixed tangible medium. (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse
/copyright) A fixed tangible medium is something substantial like copying lyrics on
paper or putting a song on tape or CD. Copyright can be seen every where in the
music industry. Many music artist of our culture today have been involved in
copyright issues. Recently, on MTV news it was stated that, As the music industry

This establishes the artist as the creator of that work. It is not illegal for a person to
write the symbol on their work themselves. The correct way to place a copyright
symbol on your original fixed tangible medium is like this:
Copyright 2001 Aja Star Lane
For record companies it, looks like this:
2001 Virgin Records. All Rights Reserved. (http://askjeeves.com/copyright/html)
This states the day of creation of a musical work. If you do not have the money for
the legal fees of the federal copyright process yet, the first thing an artist should do
with a musical work is the poor mans copyright . Poor mans copyright is when the
artist puts their fixed tangible medium in an envelope with appropriate postage
stamps and mails it back to themselves without opening it. This postmark creates
proof of the creator and is the date of creation for the musical work.
Why should an artist copyright an original work?
Copyrighting a musical expression just ensures that an artist is the creator of that
work. There are a couple of reasons why an artist should copyright their original
works. The main one is the creator of a work wants to be able to protect his or her
work. Also, financial gain from suing. There would not be any purpose in creating
music without financial gain for some. If you live in the United States and legally
registered your musical works you have
Labeling Essay Sociology
When a person is labeled as something he or she has become part of that particular
sub culture, and although that person might not consider themselves to be that
particular label, society has the majority rule. If society considers a person with
tattoos a rebel, that person is now a troublemaker in society s eyes; he or she carries
the characteristics of that certain label, and that title sticks. Labeling in society is a
natural human property. Humanslabel sub consciously in order to organize the
people they may come in contact with in society day to day. This action takes place
because having a label does not stop at the face; it runs much deeper. Labels carry
characteristics, properties, and key traits that can give a person an idea of... Show

Labeling in this manner is a great thing for it helps people, and from that labeled
position a person can gain social status in their own group. In 1998 an article
written by Patricia A. Adler and Peter Adler stated that Cliques are, at their base,
friendship circles, whose members tend to identify each other as mutually
connected (Pg. 155). Once a person is labeled as something whether it be a jock or a
plastic, these people can now seek out others who are labeled similarly, and by
doing so new friendships and relationships are born. Labels can introduce a person
to a new set of people, which he or she would never have known if they were not
labeled. In an article written by Martin Sanchez Jankowski in 1991 a ...hierarchy
system is used to label members of a gang... (Pg. 172). This hierarchy system can
play a positive role in the life of a gang member because once you are placed on a
level there is no ambiguity about a person s position and status; their responsibilities,
liabilities, and expected actions are practically lied out for young gang member.
Unfortunately labeling, for the most part, is a negative action taken against groups
of people who do not comply with societies unwritten rules. When a person is labeled
it is usually because said person did something that was unusual, different, and/or out
of the social norm. In schools across the United States there is some
Evaporation Lab
There are also some other common properties that are transitions from one state to
another, such as vaporization, this is the process by which a liquid or in some cases a
solid that can change into a gas. Evaporation is a similar form of vaporization.
However, evaporation is defined as the process by which particles escape from the
surface of a non boiling liquidand enter the gasstate. Some lab experiments can be
conducted to actually see the effects of evaporation. Like the liquid bromine lab
where you add a small amount of liquid bromine into a bottle, and within a few
minutes, the air above the liquid bromine will turn into a brownish red color because
some of the bromine molecules escaped from the surface of the liquid. These
molecules then became gas molecules, or bromine... Show more content on

The process of evaporation occurs because the particles of a liquid have different
kinetic energies. In some cases surface particles with higher than average energies
can overcome the intermolecular forces that bind them to the liquid. The particles
can then transition into the gas state. Evaporation is an essential process in nature.
For example in nature evaporation removes fresh water from the surface of a
ocean, leaving behind a higher concentration of salts. In areas such as the tropics,
evaporation occurs at a higher rate, resulting in the surface water to be saltier. All
water that falls to Earth in the form of rain and snow has been previously
evaporated from oceans, lakes, and rivers. Evaporation of sweat plays an
important role in keeping a human cool. Sweat, which is mostly consisted of
water, cools a human by absorbing body heat when it evaporates. Energy which is
in the form of heat is absorbed from the skin, causing the body to cool down. As a
liquid is cooled its viscosity normally increases, but viscosity also has a tendency to
prevent

Calcific Aortic Valve Essay
The heart valves physiological purpose is to maintain unidirectional, non obstacle
flow of blood and mitral and aortic valves are in charge of pumping the blood,
experiencing intense pressure, and supporting higher biomechanical stress than
pulmonary and tricuspid. 5 Therefore, they are more affected by pathologies and
degenerative processes while alterations in pulmonary or tricuspid valves are less
common and mainly related with genetic or fetal defects.
Diseases of native aortic valves have been linked to mechanical factors, for
example, the sclerotic lesions that occur in calcific aortic valve disease occur
preferentially in the subendothelial space on the aortic side of the leaflet, a region

7 Calcific aortic valve stenosis is the most common valvular pathology requiring
valve replacement and showing some evidence of aortic valve thickening known as
valvular sclerosis.
Recent studies demonstrate convincingly that aortic sclerosis is not a passive,
unregulated process, but rather is an active cell mediated process involving chronic
inflammation and active calcification 11 because relies on the activation of pro
osteogenic signaling cascades, such as bone morphogenetic protein and Wnt/b

Valvular heartdisease (VHD) is a major health problem that results in substantial
morbidity and death worldwide. In developing countries, VHD is primarily caused by
the persistent burden of rheumatic fever rather than degenerative pathology, and
tends to affect younger individuals. 7
Several drugs can be used as short term therapies to improve the health and condition
of patients with severe valvular pathologies, however in most cases the best option
for correcting the problem is to proceed with valve repair surgery and/or
Use Of Communication And Its Effects On The World Of...
In the world of technological advances the earth has evolved into, people are
communicating more often and easier than ever. The modes of communication are
endless, including: text, email, social media, phone calls, letters, fax, radio, podcast,
and live via virtual video. Each one of these modes of communication opens a
window of opportunity for a person to demonstrate rude behavior or improper
etiquette. Have you ever been to dinner with a friend to catch up and found yourself
staring at them as they stare into their cell phone? In this instance, it is believed that
the person simply does not know they are being rude. Their rudenessis caused by
mere ignorance or the thought that it is socially acceptable now (LaBossiere 2008).
A means of communication is literally at one s fingertips at all times, it not only
distracts them from the world surrounding them, but the people they encounter. Cell
phones have become such a part of our daily lives that they are often the thing we
reach for the minute we wake up and the last thing we look at before going to bed
(Woollaston 2015).
It is estimated that people spend an average of five hours a day on their cell
phones. That s a third of the amount of time they are actually awake (Woollaston
2015). However, it has been found that there are other causes of rude behavior such
as a means of demonstrating superiority due to one s own insecurities or anxieties, a
person s level of stress, and prior victimization from those who have
How Did Perseus Become King
Perseus, son of Zeus, destiny was not giving to him. Born In a chamber locked
away because Acrisius (his grandfather) was told Perseus would kill him. They
were kicked out the tower when Acrisius found out he was born, and put in a chest
to drift away at sea. Heres the summary on how young Perseus became king.
Perseus and his mother landed on the island of Seriphos, where Polydectes ruled.
His brother Dictys was a fisherman. He found the chest and freed them. By then
Perseus had grown up to be a strong young man. This is important because
Polydectes wanted to marry Danae (Perseus mother), but Perseus didn t allow it.
Because of these actions Perseus was banished until he could bring back the head of
Medusa. Therefore Perseus set

How Mindfulness Can Change Your Life
How Mindfulness Can Change Your Life
Adopted as the latest craze, mindfulness is more than just a passing fad. This
meditation technique stretches back thousands of years in Eastern cultures. While it
was once a technique used primarily by Buddhist monks, modern researchers have
discovered some of the immense benefits of being mindful in every day life.
How Mindfulness Works
At its heart, mindfulness is just a way to pay closer attention to everything that is
going on. It focuses on rooting yourself in the present to notice what is really
happening within your mind and body. You begin to notice the things that are going
on around you without judging what is going on. The flowers grow, your boss
gives you a new project and cars drive by just because that is what they do. With
this mind set, you stop judging and are able to just exist within the moment. Instead
of allowing yourself to go into autopilot, you are able to observe your life at a
distance.

In 2011, Harvard University conducted a study. In the trial, the participants had to
carry out a mindfulness program for eight weeks. During this time, the density of the
gray matter in their minds actually increased. In total, there were eight different
regions of the mind that were affected.
With a mindfulness practice, the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) is improved, which
allows for greater self regulation, less impulsiveness and better focus. The gray matter
in the hippocampus increases. Since the hippocampus is responsible for emotion,
memories, the limbic system and cortisol, changes in this section of the brain can
reduce post traumatic stress disorder, depression and chronic stress. Interestingly,
individuals with low gray matter in the hippocampus are more likely to have PTSD
or depression. Due to this, mindfulness can actually reduce the impact or treat these

Eating Habits Of Food
Regardless of circumstance, everybody around the world must eat food. With the
intricacies of varying tastes, portions, prices, and quality, the way food is consumed
is often an important process for many Americans. Even though we all eat, we have
differing objectives and motives for how exactly we consume, when we consciously
are eating. These divergent reasons reflect in the vast spectrums of tastes, portion,
price, and quality that people s foodconsumption are categorized within. On a large
scale, the amount of thought that goes into food purchases, is predominantly
dependent on constraints imposed by time and money. There are several other
variables, such as the foods origins, the labor to make the food, and overall quality
which may be considered, but they primarily revolve around the time one has to eat
and how much they can afford to spend. As simple as eating food may seem, the
entire process can give great insight into social values of a given culture. In my
analysis of my eating habits, I analyze, and learn about myself as well as American
society.
On a daily basis I consume a blender s worth or 6 cups of a smoothie that consists of
fruits and vegetables with a tablespoon of greek low fat yogurt. I consume this
along with intermittent healthier snacks such as nuts throughout the day, and a
base meal of rice with a tomato based stew, or eggs in an omelet. Roughly once a
week, I ll eat fast food instead of a home base meal, and roughly once a month, I ll
eat out at a restaurant. I try to limit my intake of sugar in the form of candy, but I do
appreciate sweets and have them about twice a week.
Within my personal diet, the largest variables are easily quality, time, and cost. In
my diet quality refers more to whether a food is healthy, as opposed to how well it
is made or the conditions surrounding the food s origins. I hold nutritional value in
high regard in my evaluation of food, as within the past year I have become
considerably conscious regarding fitness and health. Despite my desire for healthier
options I often have to compromise, since time and money taper the levels of healthy
options I consume as well as the frequency.
The factor of time also plays a significant role in what I eat. When my

then people have applied that to literary theory. Basics are very concrete, they re
very scientific and very logical. They focus on the material and do not believe in

My Last Duchess and Porphyria’s Lover
The mind of a psychotic can be an interesting maze to travel. The reason s that they
do what they do will probably remain a mystery for a long time, despite
technological advancements. The reasoning for some psychotics slips and harms to
others can possibly be explained by Owen J. Flanagan, as he states, The fact that slips
sometimes take even the person himself by surprise is explained by the fact that
unconscious wishes are usually unknown to the person himself. (Flanagan). This can
help explain how the men act within the stories My Last Duchessand Porphyria s
Lover. Furthermore, this is a comparative analysis of the lover s within Porphyria s
Lover and My Last Duchess, both by Robert Browning. In both stories, the lover s
perceive the women as objects, instead of actual people. In My Last Mistress, he
believes that he has given her a gift by marrying her, and thus thinks that he owns
her. He feels that she is taking this gift granted and gets angry when she does not
worship him. This is further pointed out by Susan Brownmiller, ...that masculine
esteem which gets its kick and sense of power from viewing females as anonymous,
panting playthings, adult toys, dehumanized objects to be used, abused, broken and
discarded. (Brownmiller). This mode of thinking is more akin to the man in My Last
Duchess. On the same token, in Porphyria s Lover, the lover still sees her as an object
because he wants to make her his forever. He does not want her to go out by herself to
Acorn Worm Essay
Acorn worms get their names Hemichordates from having some of the characteristics
of a chordate. Hemi meaning half and then adding chordate. They are both also part
of the deuterostomes family by having their first opening to be the anus. There are
certain characteristics that make acorn worms part of the deuterostomes family
including a bilaterally symmetrical body, radial cleavage, enterocoelous coelom, and
invertebrate. Bilaterally symmetrical meaning that the acorn worm can be open right

The postanal tail is just something some acorn worms have which in turn results in
poor segmentation. The tubular nerve cords are located in the dorsal midline and
the ventral midline. The ventral cord is only in the trunk of the acorn worm and is
attached to the dorsal cord through the prebranchial nerve ring. The dorsal cord
goes all the way to the collar and runs through the coelom to the buccal tube as the
collar cord. Finally, the stomochord is a hollow and flexible tube which come about
in the embryonic development out of the top of the embryonic gut to the pharynx.
As the acorn worm becomes an adult the stomochord moves to the proboscis to
serve as a communication to the oral cavity. Hemichordates aren t chordates because
they lack some of the chordate characteristics one being notochords. Notochords can
be found in between the digestive tube and the nerve cord of the chordate. It can be
found during the embryonic stages and also sometimes in their adult life. The
notochord is there to provide skeletal support because of the length of the body but,
is later replaced with a vertebral column in some

On February 2016, Royal Caribbean s Anthem of the Seas sets sail off the East
Coast of New Jersey with more than 6,000 passengers and 1,500 crew members on
board (Almasy, 2016). The passenger ship sailed into a storm which threatened the
lives and safety of everybody on board. According to CNN and other news
agencies, a lawsuit was filed in a Miami federal court alleging the captain s
negligence in sailing into a well publicized and forecasted storm. In another case,
Royal Caribbean s Explorer of the Seas was on a 10 day cruise in January when a
fast moving bug left nearly 700 passengers and crew stricken with vomiting and
diarrhea. The CDC reports that this is the highest number of sick people reported on
any cruise ship in two decades. Yet, in another report, the Eastern Star went down
during a storm killing more than 450 people. It s the deadliest boat disaster in
China in almost 70 years Cruise Line Safety: In the last 5 years, approximately
1000 people have died on cruise ships which ran aground or sank (Ahmed, 2016).
Ironically, there are a lot of people who will never get to experience of going on a
cruise because of the fear driven by reports like the aforementioned. In actuality,
cruise vacations have a higher percentage of satisfied customers than any other
vacation experience. There are a number of compelling reasons why a cruise would
be an ideal vacation for family and friends. Taking a cruise can have many different

Vigilance Essay Feb 2015

The price of freedom is eternal vigilance. (Quote Desmond Tutu)
Vigilance is defined as the action or state of being alert and watchful. It is
concerned both with what is and what will be. Thus it is important to be Vigilant in
the army for many reasons. Not the least of which being it could keep you and your
buddies alive despite the world s best attempts to make you otherwise. But it means
more than just staying awake and alert at guard duty. It means both being mentally
and physically prepared to react to changing conditions and to being aware and
cognizant of the current conditions. There are three important categories to discuss
here and expound upon. The First is Vigilance... Show more content on

Nursing demands vigilance about people. The sights and smells that a patient offers,
their movements and their offhand comments all contribute crucial information to
understanding what they need. Training and experience heighten one s ability to see

But vigilance is not just a tangible watchfulness or alertness. It can be intangible as
well. Vigilance TO duty means that you are not only vigilant on duty but about
your duties. It means that you maintain a watch on YOURSELF as well as the
world and others. That way you do not slip and begin to neglect your duties. This
is just as important as being vigilant on duty. Making sure schedules are made and
kept, responsibilities are divided up properly, records are updated, supplies are
ordered and so on ad nauseam are all things you have to maintain vigilance over
every day no matter your duty or post. It is an attention to detail that you resolve to
maintain always. It is the sign of a professional and skilled person to be vigilant to

The History Of 1960s Music In The 1960s
Music in 1960s
Music has been a part of the human race for as long as it has been existing. Its
various forms and genres categorizes and divides the music country wise, ranging
from initially Folk music as the base, moving on to Country music as a regions
identity. The music gained enormous name and fame because of its hypnotizing
effect on the singer and the listener. From Rock n Roll, evolving towards British
invasion, music in 1960 s played a major role in evolution of UK.This evolution was
brought up by the introduction of rock and roll, collaborating different races and
changing the lifestyle thus transforming UK from a conservative country into the
capital of the world.
Before rock and roll hit the Great Britain, blues and jazz were the genres of the era.
Singers from various nations like the US or Africa, started working solo or as
bands and increased the impact of music on people slive. Before the 50 s, various
controversies arose regarding the style of Jazz and Blues, and their effect on the
local residents and The British Invasion also began around 1963 with the arrival of
The Beatles on the music scene and the type of rabid fandom that followed them
would change the way people would view and interact with me and musicians forever.
(The People History). Although rock and roll began influencing Britain in the 1950s,
it wasn t until the early Sixties and the emergence of British Invasion groups like The

The Negative Effects Of Social Media In Frankenstein, By...
In the novel Frankenstein by Mary Shelly, Scientist Victor Frankenstein creates an
unnamed creature with a positive intended outcome; the situation quickly spiraled
out of control. This can be related to social media in our society today. Social media
was created also with a positive intended outcome to allow the user to be creative,
share content with friends and just enjoy the virtual world. Unfortunately, people in
society today are using social media to hurt one another rather than support each
other. This unintended use for social media today has been resulting in very
realistic effects, involving damage to adolescences mental health and their way of
life. Just like the creature in Frankenstein, Social media has damaged and killed
many people in its path. Social media has become a feeding ground for
cyberbullying which has now become the leading cause of depression, substance
abuse, and pre adolescencesuicide in the United States today. Cyber bullyingis any

Diesel Engines Fuel Pressure Is Controlled Mechanically...
ABSTRACT
In the past, in diesel engine fuel pressure was controlled mechanically and depending
on the camshaft. Due to this geography lots of problems occurs like engine emission,
engine torque, engine efficiency etc. To overcome these problem or for the better
performance caterpillar invented new technology called Hydraulically actuated
Electronic Unit Injection (HEUI) fuel systems.
1.1 Introduction:
To achieving outstanding fuel economy, high torque output and to reduce the
emission produced from the relatively small engine displacement an innovative
injection technology has came in the early 1990 s. The use of hydraulic force to
pressurize fuel for injection was innovative technology to advance the use of
powerful, cleaner and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since the functions of metering, increase of pressure, timing and atomization are
all combined into the injector. These especially designed injectors are supplied not
only with fuel but highly pressurized lube oil. An engine driven high pressure oil
pump supplies fuel to the injectors at pressures close to 4,000 psi. Within the
injector, hydraulic force is further amplified to give HEUI s the capability to
achieve injection pressures of up to 28,500 psi from the latest injectors. Since oil
can be pressurized to very high pressures independently of engine speed, high
injection pressure is achievable at low engine RPM. The high pressure injection
capabilities joint with electronic control of timing and injection rate ensures the best
atomization of fuel, low emissions, higher performance and fuel economy. This
pressure is available at almost any engine speed and load condition which permits the
HEUI system to perform in any diesel engine application by simply changing
software programming. This feature by definition tells the difference the HEUI
system as a type of common rail fuel system. In sequence developments in HEUI
technology have allowed for improved ability to shape the rate of fuel injection which
further reduces combustion noise and emissions for quieter cleaner engine operation.
HEUI injectors are easily replaced by technicians with almost no adjustment or special

Senior Caregivers
Senior Caregivers and Joint Problems Many seniors suffer from sore and aching
joints. What exactly causes these problems to occur? While there is no one simple
answer, let s take a look at a few of the most common reasons for joint problems. As
we age, the padding between the bones, cartilage, wears and erodes. This is often
accompanied by a drying up of the protective membranes and fluid that lubricates the
joints. Without the cartilage and the synovial membranes and fluid, the bones are
allowed to touch and painfully grind together. This deterioration of the joints often
causes stiffness, deformity, swelling, and pain. The most common joint problem for
seniors is osteoarthritis. In fact, Mayo Clinic notes that it is one of the most common
ailments in the United States. Nearly half of all seniors over... Show more content on

Positive And Effect Of Coffee
The Effects of Coffee
Coffee, a magic word with a magic power. Tons of people enjoy coffee, love coffee,
and need coffee. With Starbucks being well known for their delicious tasting drinks,
coffee has become an international drink for almost everybody. It is commonly
consumed on a daily basis with today s society being highly involved with
caffeinated drinks. Drinking coffee can affect us positively because it helps prevent
diseases and boosts up our metabolism, as well as it reduces headaches and decreases
the chances of developing kidney stones.
The fact that everyone likes coffee does not mean they are fit to drink coffee.
Whether it s good coffee or bad, the effect it causes depends on the consumer. It is
commonly argued the position it takes as it has both negative and positive results.
The majority of human epidemiological studies suggest that regular coffee
consumption over one s lifetime reduces the risk of developing Alzheimer s
disease. It appears to be beneficial before the occurrence of this disease which is
during the pre morbid phase. These intriguing results suggest that older adults with
mild memory impairment who drink moderate levels of coffee about 3 cups a day
will not convert to Alzheimer s disease or at least will experience a substantial delay
before converting to Alzheimer s, said study author Dr. Chuanhai Cao, a
neuroscientist at the University of South Florida Health Byrd Alzheimer s Institute

Hearing Tripp scream James shoots the dog with the gun he claimed was a fake

Critical Analysis Of I Am Trying To Break Your Heart
Kevin Young s I am Trying to Break Your Heart examines the dark and chaotic
nature of trying to heal from emotional damage. Addressing a lover, the speaker
uses twisted and macabre diction to describe the dark feelings that brew within
him. These sinister desires to harm the lover shine through in the terse language and
erratic structure, as well as. The 2008 poem alludes to a Wilco song of the same
name, wherein the speaker describes his heartache after leaving his lover and facing
regret concerning the situation. This is alluded to in stanzas 12 and 13 when Young
writes ... I assassin / down the avenue, (22 23) the second line of the song. Without
taking note of this allusion, the poem would seem as if Young is portraying himself
as a manipulator seeking to gain power over his lover. But through referencing the
2002 song I am Trying to Break Your Heart by Jeff Tweedy
, Young clarifies his
intent. The poem is meant to illustrate the chaotic and destructive nature of healing
from emotional damage, showing how a love lost can leave an individual scarred
and vengeful. Young begins the poem by indirectly addressing his lover, saying I am
hoping / to hang your head. This creates a dark tone from the offset, implying that the
speaker wants to harm the intended recipient of the poem. He then goes on in the
second stanzato say he would hang the lover s head on his wall in shame. This
evokes an image of taxidermy, which is meant to objectify and dehumanize the
Outside Of House Painting Analysis
It is possible to paint the outside of your house in the winter time. Here are a few
things you need to take into consideration before painting the outside of your house
this winter. Look At The Temperature Your Materials Will Work At The first thing
you need to do is look at all the material that you need to use to paint the outside of
your house and determine what temperature the materials work effectively at. For
example, if the outside of your house has already been prepared for paint before
the cold weather struck, only your paint needs to stand up to cold weather. Or, if
the outside of the house has not been prepared yet, you need to make sure that any
caulk, fillers and primers you need to use, as well as the paint, will be able... Show

However, caulking, fillers and primers often need warmer weather to work
properly. Be sure to read the directions on all materials that you purchase carefully.
Find Out The Surface Temperature Next, before you start painting, you need to
find out not just what the air temperature will be, you also need to figure out what
the surface temperature of your home is. Often times, the surface temperature of
your home will be cooler than the outside temperature. Just because you have one
warm day does not mean that the outside of your house has had time to warm up.
You will need to purchase a tool specifically designed to measure the surface
temperature of objects. You will need to purchase a thermometer with a probe so
you can figure out the surface temperature of your home. You should be able to find
this tool at your local home improvement or building store. Work With The Sun If
you decide the temperature outside is warm enough to paint, you need to start
working as soon as the sun comes up and the weather warms up. You also need to
work with the sun. Follow the sun around the house as you paint; when the sun
moves, you need to move as well. Once the temperatures begin the downward slide,

Advantages Of The Gilded Age
Ever look at all the railroads and big manufacturing companies and think where
could something so big be started? Well the gilded age is highly responsible for
these manufactures and creation of railroads. The Gilded Age took place 1869
1901 in the United States giving a whole new perspective, in 1877 to 1893 the
economy nearly doubled. The Gilded Age took place in between Civil War and the
World War 1 where the US economy grew drastically resulting in lots of political
corruption. The Progressive Movement went along with the Gilded Age becoming
popular among the well educated and environmental friendly peers. Not everything
was perfect during this time due to many factors including unfair workers rights
preventing many from obtaining a higher power then one deserves. Fair workers

An Analysis Of Lancelot s Abandonment Of The Epic

Abandonment of the Epic The compilation of Chretien de Troyes Arthurian
Romances effectively portrays various themes previously unexplored in the epic
genre that eventually led to the creation of Lancelot in The Knight of the Cart and
later Perceval in his unfinished work, The Story of the Grail . Lancelot becomes the
good example of romantic mythology through his internal struggles while still
remaining loyal to his liege. The early epics contain many common themes and
morals despite having been found throughout different civilizations such as the Old
English Beowulf, the Greek works of The Odyssey and The Iliad by Homer, and the
ancient Mesopotamian Epic of Gilgamesh. In ... Show more content on

Lancelot has defining human characteristics that separate him from the deified
accounts of epic poem protagonists, and this shift to vulnerability created a new
writing style that reflected the times as Europe was slowly becoming less
centralized. Since the innocent days of Perceval s youth, he had wanted to
become a knight after recklessly chasing after a few with a javelin, and this tale of
maturity is similar to the works of Dickens and other tales of growing up . The
tragic Greek hero or man of myth portrayed in the epic tales that became immediate
folklore for nations across the globe was no more. Every country had its great epic
hero, but the rise of romantic writings led to each country being able to rediscover
itself through a different set of eyes. Perceval and Lancelot could never have been
epic heroes, and the actions of Perceval and Lancelot could never be portrayed in
an epic poem without seeming humorous. Oedipus would never ride in the back of a
pillory cart to reach his destination, and Lancelot would never find himself in a
situation where he has to kill his own father and wed his mother. It is evident that the
early romantic works take heavy influence from epic poetry as the characters may
seem to be chivalrous and intimidating at first, but unlike the protagonists of

Features And Functions Of Information Systems
P4: Describe the features and functions of information systems
In this document I am going to describe the features and functions of an information
system. The businesses I am going to use are Campsmount Academy and Wabtec.
An information system is a combination of People, IT and business processes that
helps management make decisions to run their business successfully.
Features of an information systems
Data
Data is a very important feature in an information system. The data in these systems
are stored in its original form. This is because the important information in the system
can be used when needed to do specific functions. For example, WABTEC s
integrated information system. In this system important data is stored. Such as,
personal information (address, name, department), shift patterns, different contract
information and supplier information. All this information is placed in one
document with drop down menus. This allows the user to search and find the
information easier and it is simple. Also the data will be clearer and easier to
understand as there will be only that piece of data that has been searched for seen.
People
People that use these types of information systems need to be trained and qualified to
use them as this will help reduce the risk of incidences happening and losing valuable
information. Qualified people are required to make the system so that they are
familiar that the companies system. If they don t make the system they need to be

Ethics And The Enhanced Interrogation Techniques
ETHICS AND THE ENHANCED INTERROGATION TECHNIQUES
Introduction
The military and the government security organs normally apply numerous methods
in obtaining critical information about criminal activities. Some of these techniques
are considered acceptable by the human rights and other non governmental
organizations while others are considered as violating the human rights as stated by
the constitution of major countries and states. There has been a strong debate on the
use of these techniques and many have defined them as torture.
This paper considers the application of enhanced interrogation techniques and
establishes the ethicality and necessity of applying them in the fight against terror to
obtain vital information. The ethicality is discussed with reflection to the five
frameworks of ethics.
While the law itself condemns use of torture for any purpose, torture becomes
necessary to be used in particular critical instances. According to Miles, the United
States senate allowed the use of enhanced interrogation techniques on a number of
cases and detainees. The human rights should be considered first in any event
whether in interrogation or any other course of action1. The policy makers have
found themselves between hard and difficult decisions to make on the techniques for
obtaining vital information from terrorists who are trained heavily on resisting from
giving information when caught in the wrong side of the law.
According to BBC (2014, n.p), President George W Bush,
Ancient Greeks And The Ancient Romans
The Romans had one of the most innovative and influential ancient civilizations.
Although arguments can be made for the Ancient Greeks and the Ancient Egyptians,
it can be seen that the modern world had adopted many of the values and ideas of the
Ancient Romans. The achievements, ideas, and values of the Ancient Romans have
had a lasting impact on the modern world. The majority of people don t know that
many of the things they take for granted came from Ancient Rome.
Architecture
One of the things the Romans had multiple achievements in that have left a lasting
impact on the world is there innovation of architecture. A major, lasting example of
Roman architecture is the Roman Colosseum. The Colosseum was used for all kinds
of things in ancient Rome including battle re enactments, dramas, executions, and
most famous of all, it is the place where the gladiators fought. The unique design of
the Colosseum was not like other structures built at this time. A major difference it
had from any theater or other event for public viewing was the audience was seated
all around the event. The idea of seating the audience all around the event with the
event at the bottom in the center became the basis for the modern sports stadium. All
stadiums of the modern era are based on the same concept of the Colosseum; so the
Colosseum was essentially the first stadium. Another architectural achievement that
left a lasting impact on the world today is the Roman Arch. The arch is seen in many
Loneliness and Isolation in of Mice and Men

This animal imagery carries on through the book. This presents Lennie as almost
less than human. It continued right till the end of the book when Lennie returns to
where the book began. Lennie s movement is compared to that of a bear, As
silently as a creeping bear moves , when he gets to the river he falls to his knees
and laps up the water like an animal, just as he did at the beginning of the book.
The book rounds off nicely; starting just where it had begun. Plus the first and last
scenes are both described in the same manner, and both scenes talk of a water
snake, with a periscope head slithering across the deep green river. In the first
scene it s just sliding along no problems. However in the last scene, as it copies this
gilding along the river, it s eaten by a heron. The heron symbolizes Lennie s
destiny. The first scene is set at sunrise, at the beginning of the week and the
beginning of George and Lennie s journey. When the week is ending and the sun is
setting Lennie is shot, this the end of his journey (and the last scene of the book),
but for George it s just the beginning of guilt, despair and true loneliness. Crooks,
Curley, Candy and Curley s wife are all lonely, but all for different reasons such as
discrimination and prejudice. Crooks is a black man who has always been pushed
aside from every group. He is treated as second class, he
Revenue Management
What Is Revenue Management? The science and expertise of forecasting immediate
consumer demand at the micro market stage when optimizing cost and accessibility
of your goods is called as revenue Management. The implementation of RM
philosophy is indefinite, and has the prospective to yield remarkable stages of
revenue. Enterprises that have used RM procedures have seen profits rising greatly
by 7 percent exclusive of incorporating considerable sum of capital overheads,
providing outcome in a revenue growth by 50 percent to 100 percent. The general
structure of Revenue Management permits supervisors to more intensely monitor the

More precise prediction indicates enhanced production assessments, and enhanced
trade judgment stand for increasing revenue. A right sales estimation ought to be a
forecasting of that will occur independent of what you believe will come about and
nearly all, what you feel like to take place. Major expansion has been made in the
function of numerical facts study to establish more correct sales predictions of
upcoming market pattern. Such trading predictions give a separate, impassive vision
of the marketplace. Good quality sales prediction diminishes the ambiguity about the
expectations, and fantastic sales predication exchange this doubts into likelihood.
Numbers of management members consider their markets are so volatile and
disorganized where vision changes so rapidly that it is difficult to predict what will
take place. This is a offensive apology for not desiring to counter the truth of their
company and the marketplace. Each executive has to involve himself in few forecasts
regarding his or her production to compute logical assessments. These might be
depending on either perception or individual interpretation; however they have to
reveal some sort of market and manufactured goods evaluation. Human being, for the
majority part, are terrible predictors, in respect to both deliberate and accidental
preconceptions. Later, the most important human restriction is our incapability to
absorb the enormous and rising number of
Cause And Effect Of Cyberbullying
Causes and Effects of Bullying
A bully is a person who uses their strength to intimidate another person. Bullying is
a major cause to homicides, suicides and youth violence. Both school bullying and
cyberbullying have increased significantly. In recent statistics one out of four kids
are either cyberbullied or school bullied. 77% of the children that are being bullied
are hurt mentally, physically and verbally. 14% of those children being bullied have
a severe reaction to the abuse. There are four effects from bullying and they are
psychological post trauma disorders, revenge, self destructive behaviors, and alcohol
or substance abuse. There are also various short term effects to bullying, low self
confidence, depression, suicidal thoughts, school problems etc...Adults will
sometimes think that the kids can figure out on their own. The truth is they cannot
figure it out on their own, they need support. While only one out of four children
report the are being bullied, these might be the children who receive help. Children
who are bullied and do not receive help might try to do something drastic. Bullying
is being widely supported , by talking about it and having campaigns for bullying.
There should be no school bullying or cyberbullying, the effects are hard to live with.
The cause of bullying may be because they want to feel superior to other children.
Some children may lack empathy and not care how the other child feels. These
types of children may feel pleasure seeing a child cry for help as they kick them.
They might also feel a sort of accomplishment after he bullies a child. Bullies
cannot see to control their emotions. When a person is angry or upset they can
usually stop themselves from doing something irrational. A bully can not stop
themselves and will simply overreact if a child would to bump the in the hallway.
Bullies feel the need to be in control and are driven to have power. The second cause
is that most bullies come from dysfunctional families. These bullies come from
families who do not show affection or openness. They witness their parents show
aggressive behaviors towards others and think it s okay. Home abuse can also be a
cause to a child becoming
Essay about Witchcraft, Magic and Rationality
Witchcraft, Magic and Rationality Social Anthropology seeks to gauge an
understanding of cultures and practices whether they are foreign or native. This is
achieved through the studying of language, education, customs, marriage, kinship,
hierarchy and of course belief and value systems. Rationality is a key concept in this
process as it affects the anthropologist s interpretation of the studied group s way of
life: what s/he deems as rational or plausible practice. Witchcraft and magic pose
problems for many anthropologists, as its supernatural nature is perhaps conflicting
to the common Western notionsof rationality, mainly deemed superior. In this essay I
will be exploring the relationship between rationality and witchcraft and... Show more

The Yorubas chanting to the god Shango is no different to the congregation of a
church singing hymns. Both are with good intentions, and both may ask for some
divine intervention. Labelling one form magic and one religion is just semantics.
To question whether it is rational to believe in witchcraft and magic is in fact just a
question as to whether the belief in supernatural intervention is rational. Is it
irrational to believe in things that we cannot prove in a rational manner? At this
point I would say Yes . It is illogical to believe in things that cannot be proven. Proof
must be a condition for belief or we could believe almost anything to exist, for
example flying pigs. It is evidence that makes belief different from faith, which is
having trust in things that often appear to have no substantiation. However to use
rationality as a determining factor of proof, and therefore belief, means that it must
be a flawless concept within itself. But is this so?
If we decide that it is irrational to believe in things that cannot be proven then we
are at the same time saying that it is only rational to believe in things that can be
proven. However there are many things that evade the boundaries of Western science,
for example emotions. Can we prove love exists? It is something invisible, intangible
and there is no objective proof for this emotion; no way to scientifically monitor
Descriptive Essay About Oro Restaurant
Oro Beach Houses and Restaurant: Bungalows In A Secluded Heaven
Are you an adventurer and like to travel to remote and mysterious places on earth
like Sumba island in Indonesia? Located in the far south of Indonesian archipelago
(400 km southeast of Bali), the island is known for its beautiful waterfalls and
beaches with very few human visitors. It is also known for the unique traditions of
the island s tribe (simply called Sumba tribe) like Pasola festival where some men try
to win the contest by throwing a blunt pole to one another from some distance on a
horse. Despite its remoteness, surprisingly you can find several decent
accommodations on the island, and Oro Beach Houses and Restaurant is among them.

Oro Beach Houses and Restaurant is located at a beach named Oro. This beach is
one of the most beautiful but rarely visited beaches, located in the southwestern part
of the island. It has whiter sand than beaches in Bali. However, there is ... Show more

Oro beach is truly a remote beach away from modernity. The closest town,
Tambolaka, where the airport is located and where you can find simple shops and
modest dining places is 45 minute drive from the beach (it s only 20 km away, but
you reach the town in 45 minutes due to the mud road along the way). No hand
phone and TV signal and internet connection can be accessed from here. So, if you
dream of a secluded and empty beach in the middle of nowhere, but want someone
to cook for you and stay in a decent lodging, Oro Beach Houses and Restaurant is
definitely the place to
First Seminole War Essay
The first Seminole war started when Andrew Jackson became general of the
southern army. The war was only a year long. The first attack on Fowltown was
surprising and outraged the Creek Indians and lead to further battles. Andrew Jackson
was born on March 15,1767. Andrew Jackson s mother was named Elizabeth Jackson.
His father, Andrew Jackson, died a few days before he was born. He was born in
Waxhaws, South Carolina. He was a lawyer, representative, and a judge. He worked
in South Carolina as a lawyer. He was elected as the seventh president of the United
Statesin 1828, he served 2 terms from 1828 to 1837. He died on June 8, 1845. While
he was the general of the U.S. army, he was the one who ordered Fort Jackson to be

Most of the battles were in Florida and in southern Georgia. The battles started
because the Seminole Indians were allowing any escaped slaves to become a part
of their tribe. The southern states didn t like that so they declared war on the
Seminole Tribe. The first attack was on November 21 when American troops
attacked the Creek Indian village of Fowltown which is now Decatur county. The
troops came again on the 23rd of November and Neamathla the chief of the village
and his tribe came out of the swamps and ambushed the Union soldiers .The attacks
on Fowltown ended a war of words that had gone on for months between
Neamathla and Major David.E.Twiggs the commanding officer at Fort Scott on
the lower Flint River in Michigan. Neamathla refused to move his tribe from the
lands ceded by the the US by the Treaty of Fort Jackson. The Treaty of Fort Jackson
said that the Creek Indians had to cede 23 million acres of their land. The Treaty
was signed on August 9,1814. That was what caused the first attack on Fowltown.
The estimate of Fowltown Indians killed is 6 to 8. Aaron Hughes was a fifer, a non
combat soldier who played the fife during war,he was the first U.S. Soldier to die in

Impact of Cost-Benefit Analysis on Industry Decision...
Impact of Cost benefit analysis on industry decision making: Transportation
Cost benefit analysis (CBA), in essence, is a tool for decision making. It can be
applied to almost any kind of decision in any kind of field. In its most pure form, a
CBA will aggregate the pros and cons (positive and negative effects) of a proposal,
and, if the pros (benefits) outweigh the cons (costs), the proposal is viable. Usually,
the analyst will assign monetary values to each of the costs and benefits, hence
making the analysis easier to calculate, even if the cost and benefits per se are
intangible, and thus, not directly expressible in money values. Problems often arise in
how to assess the monetary values of both tangible and intangible effects, which ...

Any threat to the reliability of the transportation network constitutes a vulnerable
spot, a weakness. This is of particular concern when considering sparse, rural
networks, because what by urban standards is a minor degradation (i.e. car accident,
resulting in queuing, delays and diversions) may have severe consequences if
occurring in a rural setting (i.e. blocking the only access road for hours).
In the most common manner of speaking, the reliability of a transportation network
can be defined as the probability that one or more of its links functions, or rather:
does not fail to function, according to a set standard of operating variables. A non
functioning, or at best, badly functioning link will impose costs on the user in
terms of loss of time, additional operation costs or other costs as a result of delays
and diversions. Transporters of perishable goods will also experience a loss of
value. Few will question that the sender, the recipient, the freight hauler, or society at
large, experience additional costs when goods or people cannot reach their
destinations in time or in space (Husdal, 2004).
The increase in just in time (JIT) manufacturing operations has made a reliable travel
time an important economic factor. JIT relies on the transportation system to take
advantage of lowcost labor and manufacturing plant development costs. Producing
components in several manufacturing plants and
What Speech Sounds Do You Expect That This Child Will

1. What speech sounds do you expect that this child will have difficulty perceiving?
Left ear difficulty perceiving: p, k, f, s, th
Right ear difficulty perceiving: j, m, n, ng, z, d, v, b, o, I, a, r, p, ch, h, sh, g, k, f, s, th
2. Do you think that the child will have more difficulty with the vowels or the
consonants and why?
I think that Julie will have more difficulty with the consonants because they are
mostly found in higher pitch areas of the speech banana. They also are softer being
found on the lower decibel range. Both of these areas are difficult areas for Julie to
perceive those speech sounds.
3. Do you think that the home situation of the child has much influence on the child s
speech abilities and if so, how has this child s family influenced her speech abilities,
based on what you know about them?
Family involvement and influence is one of the top reasons for a child to either
struggle or excel with language and communication. From what I read there is a lack
of support in the home. This is mostly because of the age and condition of the hearing
aids.
It is frequently found that a child with mild to moderate hearing loss such as Julie,
can struggle even more than a child with severe to profound hearing loss. This is
because a child with mild to moderate hearing loss is denied assistance or lacks
proper diagnosis due to their ability to understand some of the time. In Julie s case it
is possible that the low IQ diagnosis was daunting to the
Analysis Of Booker T. Washington
In the 19th century, many things were changing. During the post reconstruction
era, technology and industry became more prevalent, more land was founded for
the United States and people fought for civil equality; in particular, the black
population. In the later 1800 s, black empowerment was on the rise. As slavery
cease to exist and the newly freed slaves were introduced to American Society,
many were uncomfortable about how to strive in a world were they were
constantly oppressed. Booker T. Washington, an educator at the time, believed the
black Americans had to earn their way into society through education and accept
minor segregation if it meant in the future, they are fully integrated. W.E.B.
DuBois, a scholar, however, believe their rights were unalienable just like others
and people of color had to be accepted no matter what. Despite being so similar in
the ideas and practices of empowering people of color, Washington s views of how
to empower the black population through hard work into society was more
compelling for the time. Booker T. Washington, born April 5, 1856 in Hale s Ford,
Virginia, was a slave. According to the Virginia Slave Laws, a child born into slavery
is also a slave, based on the condition of his mother. Early on, the plantation owner
James Burroughs had Washington carry sacks of grains to the plantation and
Washington was beaten when he could not do as required. One day, Washington saw
a school with kids, reading and writing. Washington then
Obstacle In Lord Of The Flies
An obstacle is designed to challenge people in order for them to find their strengths
and weaknesses. The goal is to then use those strengths to overcome the weaknesses.
A survivor is an individual who pushes through and thrives in a challenge. At first
the complication may break the person, leaving them hopeless. In spite of this, the
person will be built up stronger when they display qualities of a survivor. They do
not get set back; they only push through harder. A survivor uses ingenuity and hope to
embrace challenges that are thrown at them. A survivor does not use an obstacle as
an excuse, but as a tool. An ingenious person uses their creativity to overcome
challenges. To survive, it is not enough to be just intelligent, but a person... Show

Once hope is lost, the drive to accomplish something is astray. In order for an
individual to thrive in their circumstance, they must have ambition and a desire to
succeed. Hope is the light in the darkness that gives way to new belief. A strong
desire for success is present in all individuals, but only the strongest believers can
achieve it. In the novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding, a group of young
boys are lost on an island and they must work together to get rescued. The boys all
have different ways of achieving that goal; one boy, Ralph, saying, Your only hope
is keeping a signal fire going as long as there s light to see. Then maybe a ship ll
notice the smoke and come and rescue us and take us home (Golding 178). For
Ralph, his hope is fire and rescue. His purpose everyday is to create smoke from a
fire in order for a ship to see them. When his link to civilization is broken with the
extinguishing of the fire, Ralph s hope is gone and he loses control. Like Ralph,
an individual who loses their grasp on hope will lose their ability to think clearly,
leading to hindrance. Each person is different from one another, meaning their
purpose in life is going to be different. For some, their hope in life comes from faith,
others from a fight inside of them. American professional surfer Bethany Hamilton
lost her arm in a shark attack. As a believer that God had a purpose for her, she

College Is Not The Best Years Of Your Life
College is NOT the Best Years of Your Life
I remember high school graduation like it was yesterday. The bitter sweet feeling
of completing the rite of passage in the eyes of most adults. All the exams,
projects, and hard work over a four year time span has now come to an end. Saying
goodbye to those classroom friends, the kind of friends you would share homework
answers with, but never actually heard from outside of school. It was not easy
parting ways with the teachers that you built a personal relationship with as they
prepared you for the next step of your life. Graduation night was emotional for
everyone, all of the families crying tears of joy in the parking lot afterward
knowing that their little babies have now grown up. All of the real, true friends that
you grew up with are now going their separate ways for a few months, but don t get
too upset, you will see them very soon over Thanksgiving break. Although every
graduate had a unique experience that night, I can guarantee each one heard some
variation of the phrase college will be the best four years of your life . Most kids,
including myself, believed those well wishing individuals, but does that commonly
used phrase have any truth to it?
In today s society, the idea of college is portrayed by the media as a wild party scene
where young adults struggle to receive an education due to their long nights spent
partying. Most high school seniors were looking forward to the day they could move
out of the house and
The Unethical Issues of the Tuskegee Study Essay
In 1929, there were good intentions to help the African Americans. The Julius
Rosenwald Fund tried to improve the health illnesses of African Americans by
approaching representatives of the U.S. Public Health Service (PHS). Unfortunately,
the Great Depression did not allow for this study to happen because it hit the Fund
hard. Since there were no more funds, Dr. Taliaferro Clark, Chief of the USPHS
Venereal Disease Division and author of the Rosenwald Study report, suggested that
the treatment study could be partly saved by conducting a new study. This study
became known as Study of Untreated Syphilis in Males. The U.S. Public Health
Service conducted this new experiment study which consisted of 399 men with
syphilis and 201 men... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many of the healthcare workers such as doctors strongly believed that there was a
racial difference in the symptoms of diseases. The white doctors often thought that
African Americans contracted syphilis because of their ever increasing low
standards of sexual morality (24). The participants had to be men about twenty
five years of age with syphilis who had not been treated for the disease. It was quite
simple to gather a group of people in Macon County because it was a poor
community with bad hygiene. Many men who participated in this study have
never seen a doctor in their life which willingly made them to be part of this study.
The African Americans did not know about the healthcare terms and were taken
advantage of by white doctors who contributed to this study. In fact, the doctors
had no intention in helping the participants to be cured from syphilis. Syphilis is a
disease that is sexually transmitted that can cause serious difficulties such as death
if it is not treated. If you treat it with penicillin, it is simple to cure. There are three
stages of this disease. The first stage is the primary stage; during this stage a
person may notice a single sore or a couple and it is usually painless. During the
second stage people start to get rashes or sores in different areas such as the mouth,
vagina, or anus. The Latent and Late Stages starts to settle in when all of the
symptoms that a person had
Charles Of Valois And The Invasion Of Florence
On 1st of November 1301, Charles of Valois invaded Florence, with the official
purpose to bring peace between the two internal political factions but, in contrast, he
reached the political power on the city, on which he ruled and enacted hard laws. In
addition, on 9th of November 1301 the French Prince appointed Conte Gabrielli da
Gubbio (member of the Black Guelphs) as supreme magistracy of Florence, allowing
this latter to recall in Florence the exiled Donati family, who had been previously
banned from the city as guilty of conspiracy against the White faction (June 1301).
The above episode is mentioned in Dante s Comedy as the prophecy by Ciacco : He
then: After long striving they will come/To blood; and the wild party from the woods

  • 2. Theme Of Blindness In Raymond Carver s Cathedral Blindness is not limited to physical manifestation. In Raymond Carver s Cathedral, the figurative blindness is immediately apparent through the narrator and his shallowness, irrational jealousy, and egotistical personality. His dismissive behavior and ignorance towards the feelings of Robert, his wife s blind friend, speak negatively of his character and reveals his insecurities. While the narrator s emotional blindnessand Robert s physical blindness initially inhibits their bond, it eventually leads the narrator to an epiphany and the beginning of a character transformation. The different forms of blindness allow the characters to bond and grow over the course of the story. Throughout Robert s visit, the narrator makes snide and insensitive remarks, despite his wife s wishes. His misunderstanding of relationships and people is his visible flaw. It isn t until the narrator ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He makes this clear in the opening paragraph of the story where he says I wasn t enthusiastic about his visit. He was no one I knew. And his being blind bothered me. My idea of blindness came from the movies. In the movies, the blind moved slowly and never laughed. Sometimes they were led by seeing eye dogs. A blind man in my house was not something I looked forward to (Carver 1). The narrator dismisses Robert in the same manner a white racist may dismiss an African American. His prejudice, or any prejudice, is preconceived based on superficial qualities rather than actual experience or reason. It is evident the narrator can t see beyond Robert s disability and is judging Robert because of a characteristic that makes him uncomfortable. This unconscious placement of Robert into an atypical category prevents him from seeing Robert as an individual. The narrator does not see Robert as a whole person, but solely as a blind man. Part of what makes the narrator emotionally blind is this

  • 4. The Spokane Indian Reservation Throughout the novel, Alexie addresses the underlying theme of poverty by highlighting the extreme class differences between the story s two main settings: the Spokane Indian Reservation and the town of Reardan, Washington. The contrasting locations of a severely impoverished native American reservation and the upscale white community surrounding it are key factors in the development of Arnold s identity; he attempts to escape the toxic culture of depression, alcoholism, and despair on the reservation by abandoning the poverty of his hometown and attending a white school which, upon first glance, seems full of optimism and opportunity. Arnold particularly emphasizes the poverty of the reservation by explicitly characterizing himself as, ...just... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the beginning of the novel, Arnold only recognizes dreams and hopes as missed opportunities; for example, his mother and father, dreamed about being something other than poor, but they never got the chance to be anything because nobody paid attention to their dreams (Alexie 11). As a result of his parents inability to achieve their goals, Arnold believes that achieving his dreams might be impossible as well; this is evident when he states, But we reservation Indians don t get to realize our dreams. We don t get those chances. Or choices. We re just poor. That s all we are (Alexie 13). For Arnold, feelings of defeat and hopelessness are part of what reservation life and being native American means; thus, in order for him to follow his dreams he must abandon his life on the

The Copyright law was established to preserve the creativity and rights of authors, composers, performers of expression. Copyright is the law that protects the property rights of the creator of an original work in a fixed tangible medium. (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse /copyright) A fixed tangible medium is something substantial like copying lyrics on paper or putting a song on tape or CD. The correct way to place a copyright symbol on your original fixed tangible medium is like this: Copyright 2001 Aja Star Lane For record companies it, looks like this: 2001 Virgin Records. All Rights Reserved. (http://askjeeves.com/copyright/html) This states the day of creation of a musical work. If you do not have the money for the legal fees of the federal copyright process yet, the first thing an artist should do with a musical work is the poor mans copyright . Poor mans copyright is when the artist puts their fixed tangible medium in an envelope with appropriate postage stamps and mails it back to themselves without opening it. This postmark creates proof of the creator and is the date of creation for the musical work. Why should an artist copyright an original work? Copyrighting a musical expression just ensures that an artist is the creator of that work. There are a couple of reasons why an artist should copyright their original works. The main one is the creator of a work wants to be able to protect his or her work. Also, financial gain from suing. There would not be any purpose in creating music without financial gain for some. If you live in the United States and legally registered your musical works you have
  • 6. Labeling Essay Sociology When a person is labeled as something he or she has become part of that particular sub culture, and although that person might not consider themselves to be that particular label, society has the majority rule. If society considers a person with tattoos a rebel, that person is now a troublemaker in society s eyes; he or she carries the characteristics of that certain label, and that title sticks. Labeling in society is a natural human property. Humanslabel sub consciously in order to organize the people they may come in contact with in society day to day. This action takes place because having a label does not stop at the face; it runs much deeper. Labels carry characteristics, properties, and key traits that can give a person an idea of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Labeling in this manner is a great thing for it helps people, and from that labeled position a person can gain social status in their own group. In 1998 an article written by Patricia A. Adler and Peter Adler stated that Cliques are, at their base, friendship circles, whose members tend to identify each other as mutually connected (Pg. 155). Once a person is labeled as something whether it be a jock or a plastic, these people can now seek out others who are labeled similarly, and by doing so new friendships and relationships are born. Labels can introduce a person to a new set of people, which he or she would never have known if they were not labeled. In an article written by Martin Sanchez Jankowski in 1991 a ...hierarchy system is used to label members of a gang... (Pg. 172). This hierarchy system can play a positive role in the life of a gang member because once you are placed on a level there is no ambiguity about a person s position and status; their responsibilities, liabilities, and expected actions are practically lied out for young gang member. Unfortunately labeling, for the most part, is a negative action taken against groups of people who do not comply with societies unwritten rules. When a person is labeled it is usually because said person did something that was unusual, different, and/or out of the social norm. In schools across the United States there is some
  • 7. Evaporation Lab There are also some other common properties that are transitions from one state to another, such as vaporization, this is the process by which a liquid or in some cases a solid that can change into a gas. Evaporation is a similar form of vaporization. However, evaporation is defined as the process by which particles escape from the surface of a non boiling liquidand enter the gasstate. Some lab experiments can be conducted to actually see the effects of evaporation. Like the liquid bromine lab where you add a small amount of liquid bromine into a bottle, and within a few minutes, the air above the liquid bromine will turn into a brownish red color because some of the bromine molecules escaped from the surface of the liquid. These molecules then became gas molecules, or bromine... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The process of evaporation occurs because the particles of a liquid have different kinetic energies. In some cases surface particles with higher than average energies can overcome the intermolecular forces that bind them to the liquid. The particles can then transition into the gas state. Evaporation is an essential process in nature. For example in nature evaporation removes fresh water from the surface of a ocean, leaving behind a higher concentration of salts. In areas such as the tropics, evaporation occurs at a higher rate, resulting in the surface water to be saltier. All water that falls to Earth in the form of rain and snow has been previously evaporated from oceans, lakes, and rivers. Evaporation of sweat plays an important role in keeping a human cool. Sweat, which is mostly consisted of water, cools a human by absorbing body heat when it evaporates. Energy which is in the form of heat is absorbed from the skin, causing the body to cool down. As a liquid is cooled its viscosity normally increases, but viscosity also has a tendency to prevent

The modes of communication are endless, including: text, email, social media, phone calls, letters, fax, radio, podcast, and live via virtual video. Each one of these modes of communication opens a window of opportunity for a person to demonstrate rude behavior or improper etiquette. Have you ever been to dinner with a friend to catch up and found yourself staring at them as they stare into their cell phone? In this instance, it is believed that the person simply does not know they are being rude. Their rudenessis caused by mere ignorance or the thought that it is socially acceptable now (LaBossiere 2008). A means of communication is literally at one s fingertips at all times, it not only distracts them from the world surrounding them, but the people they encounter. Cell phones have become such a part of our daily lives that they are often the thing we reach for the minute we wake up and the last thing we look at before going to bed (Woollaston 2015). It is estimated that people spend an average of five hours a day on their cell phones. That s a third of the amount of time they are actually awake (Woollaston 2015). However, it has been found that there are other causes of rude behavior such as a means of demonstrating superiority due to one s own insecurities or anxieties, a person s level of stress, and prior victimization from those who have

This meditation technique stretches back thousands of years in Eastern cultures. While it was once a technique used primarily by Buddhist monks, modern researchers have discovered some of the immense benefits of being mindful in every day life. How Mindfulness Works At its heart, mindfulness is just a way to pay closer attention to everything that is going on. It focuses on rooting yourself in the present to notice what is really happening within your mind and body. You begin to notice the things that are going on around you without judging what is going on. The flowers grow, your boss gives you a new project and cars drive by just because that is what they do. With a mindfulness practice, the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) is improved, which allows for greater self regulation, less impulsiveness and better focus. The gray matter in the hippocampus increases. Since the hippocampus is responsible for emotion, memories, the limbic system and cortisol, changes in this section of the brain can reduce post traumatic stress disorder, depression and chronic stress. Interestingly, individuals with low gray matter in the hippocampus are more likely to have PTSD or depression. Due to this, mindfulness can actually reduce the impact or treat these mental

  • 16. Eating Habits Of Food Regardless of circumstance, everybody around the world must eat food. With the intricacies of varying tastes, portions, prices, and quality, the way food is consumed is often an important process for many Americans. Even though we all eat, we have differing objectives and motives for how exactly we consume, when we consciously are eating. These divergent reasons reflect in the vast spectrums of tastes, portion, price, and quality that people s foodconsumption are categorized within. On a large scale, the amount of thought that goes into food purchases, is predominantly dependent on constraints imposed by time and money. There are several other variables, such as the foods origins, the labor to make the food, and overall quality which may be considered, but they primarily revolve around the time one has to eat and how much they can afford to spend. As simple as eating food may seem, the entire process can give great insight into social values of a given culture. In my analysis of my eating habits, I analyze, and learn about myself as well as American society. On a daily basis I consume a blender s worth or 6 cups of a smoothie that consists of fruits and vegetables with a tablespoon of greek low fat yogurt. I consume this along with intermittent healthier snacks such as nuts throughout the day, and a base meal of rice with a tomato based stew, or eggs in an omelet. Roughly once a week, I ll eat fast food instead of a home base meal, and roughly once a month, I ll eat out at a restaurant. I try to limit my intake of sugar in the form of candy, but I do appreciate sweets and have them about twice a week. Within my personal diet, the largest variables are easily quality, time, and cost. In my diet quality refers more to whether a food is healthy, as opposed to how well it is made or the conditions surrounding the food s origins. I hold nutritional value in high regard in my evaluation of food, as within the past year I have become considerably conscious regarding fitness and health. Despite my desire for healthier options I often have to compromise, since time and money taper the levels of healthy options I consume as well as the frequency. The factor of time also plays a significant role in what I eat. When my

Examples Of Marxist Criticism In Repent, Harlequin MARXIST CRITICISM Marxist criticism was developed by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels in the late 1840s, they did not come up with this as a means of literary interpretation but they just came up with communist manifesto, an idealized idea of society and what it should be like and what it should not be and then people have applied that to literary theory. The reason s that they do what they do will probably remain a mystery for a long time, despite technological advancements. The reasoning for some psychotics slips and harms to others can possibly be explained by Owen J. Flanagan, as he states, The fact that slips sometimes take even the person himself by surprise is explained by the fact that unconscious wishes are usually unknown to the person himself. (Flanagan). This can help explain how the men act within the stories My Last Duchessand Porphyria s Lover. Furthermore, this is a comparative analysis of the lover s within Porphyria s Lover and My Last Duchess, both by Robert Browning. In both stories, the lover s perceive the women as objects, instead of actual people. In My Last Mistress, he believes that he has given her a gift by marrying her, and thus thinks that he owns her. He feels that she is taking this gift granted and gets angry when she does not worship him. This is further pointed out by Susan Brownmiller, ...that masculine esteem which gets its kick and sense of power from viewing females as anonymous, panting playthings, adult toys, dehumanized objects to be used, abused, broken and discarded. (Brownmiller). This mode of thinking is more akin to the man in My Last Duchess. On the same token, in Porphyria s Lover, the lover still sees her as an object because he wants to make her his forever. He does not want her to go out by herself to

Due to this geography lots of problems occurs like engine emission, engine torque, engine efficiency etc. To overcome these problem or for the better performance caterpillar invented new technology called Hydraulically actuated Electronic Unit Injection (HEUI) fuel systems. 1.1 Introduction: To achieving outstanding fuel economy, high torque output and to reduce the emission produced from the relatively small engine displacement an innovative injection technology has came in the early 1990 s. The use of hydraulic force to pressurize fuel for injection was innovative technology to advance the use of powerful, cleaner and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since the functions of metering, increase of pressure, timing and atomization are all combined into the injector. These especially designed injectors are supplied not only with fuel but highly pressurized lube oil. An engine driven high pressure oil pump supplies fuel to the injectors at pressures close to 4,000 psi. Within the injector, hydraulic force is further amplified to give HEUI s the capability to achieve injection pressures of up to 28,500 psi from the latest injectors. Since oil can be pressurized to very high pressures independently of engine speed, high injection pressure is achievable at low engine RPM. The high pressure injection capabilities joint with electronic control of timing and injection rate ensures the best atomization of fuel, low emissions, higher performance and fuel economy. This pressure is available at almost any engine speed and load condition which permits the HEUI system to perform in any diesel engine application by simply changing software programming. This feature by definition tells the difference the HEUI system as a type of common rail fuel system. In sequence developments in HEUI technology have allowed for improved ability to shape the rate of fuel injection which further reduces combustion noise and emissions for quieter cleaner engine operation. HEUI injectors are easily replaced by technicians with almost no adjustment or special engine

Without taking note of this allusion, the poem would seem as if Young is portraying himself as a manipulator seeking to gain power over his lover. But through referencing the 2002 song I am Trying to Break Your Heart by Jeff Tweedy , Young clarifies his intent. The poem is meant to illustrate the chaotic and destructive nature of healing from emotional damage, showing how a love lost can leave an individual scarred and vengeful. Young begins the poem by indirectly addressing his lover, saying I am hoping / to hang your head. This creates a dark tone from the offset, implying that the speaker wants to harm the intended recipient of the poem. Lancelot becomes the good example of romantic mythology through his internal struggles while still remaining loyal to his liege. Ethics And The Enhanced Interrogation Techniques ETHICS AND THE ENHANCED INTERROGATION TECHNIQUES Introduction The military and the government security organs normally apply numerous methods in obtaining critical information about criminal activities. Some of these techniques are considered acceptable by the human rights and other non governmental organizations while others are considered as violating the human rights as stated by the constitution of major countries and states. There has been a strong debate on the use of these techniques and many have defined them as torture. This paper considers the application of enhanced interrogation techniques and establishes the ethicality and necessity of applying them in the fight against terror to obtain vital information. The ethicality is discussed with reflection to the five frameworks of ethics. While the law itself condemns use of torture for any purpose, torture becomes necessary to be used in particular critical instances. According to Miles, the United States senate allowed the use of enhanced interrogation techniques on a number of cases and detainees. The human rights should be considered first in any event whether in interrogation or any other course of action1. The book rounds off nicely; starting just where it had begun. Rationality is a key concept in this process as it affects the anthropologist s interpretation of the studied group s way of life: what s/he deems as rational or plausible practice. To question whether it is rational to believe in witchcraft and magic is in fact just a question as to whether the belief in supernatural intervention is rational. Is it irrational to believe in things that we cannot prove in a rational manner? At this point I would say Yes . It is illogical to believe in things that cannot be proven. Proof must be a condition for belief or we could believe almost anything to exist, for example flying pigs. It is evidence that makes belief different from faith, which is having trust in things that often appear to have no substantiation. However to use rationality as a determining factor of proof, and therefore belief, means that it must be a flawless concept within itself. But is this so? If we decide that it is irrational to believe in things that cannot be proven then we are at the same time saying that it is only rational to believe in things that can be proven. However there are many things that evade the boundaries of Western science, for example emotions. Can we prove love exists? It is something invisible, intangible and there is no objective proof for this emotion; no way to scientifically monitor

Usually, the analyst will assign monetary values to each of the costs and benefits, hence making the analysis easier to calculate, even if the cost and benefits per se are intangible, and thus, not directly expressible in money values. Any threat to the reliability of the transportation network constitutes a vulnerable spot, a weakness. This is of particular concern when considering sparse, rural networks, because what by urban standards is a minor degradation (i.e. car accident, resulting in queuing, delays and diversions) may have severe consequences if occurring in a rural setting (i.e. blocking the only access road for hours). In the most common manner of speaking, the reliability of a transportation network can be defined as the probability that one or more of its links functions, or rather: does not fail to function, according to a set standard of operating variables. A non functioning, or at best, badly functioning link will impose costs on the user in terms of loss of time, additional operation costs or other costs as a result of delays and diversions. Transporters of perishable goods will also experience a loss of value. Few will question that the sender, the recipient, the freight hauler, or society at large, experience additional costs when goods or people cannot reach their destinations in time or in space (Husdal, 2004). The increase in just in time (JIT) manufacturing operations has made a reliable travel time an important economic factor. JIT relies on the transportation system to take advantage of lowcost labor and manufacturing plant development costs. Producing components in several manufacturing plants and
