Beethoven's Nine Symphonies Introduction Ludwig van Beethoven was a composer and Pianist of
German origin and he is one of the famous composers to date. He is an important figure in the
change between the classical music to Romantic era in Western music. Beethoven showed musical
talent a young age and his father Johann Van Beethoven and composer Christian Gottlob Neefe were
his teachers. At 21, Joseph Haydn became his teacher in Vienna and he taught him about
composition. During his late 20s, Beethoven started to lose his hearing and this progressed until he
was almost totally deaf in his last years. In 1881 Beethoven stopped performing in public and chose
to focus on composing and during this time he wrote some of his best compositions. Beethoven
passed away on March 26, 1827. In August 1845, the Beethoven monument in Bonn was unveiled
making it the first monument ever of a composer. The nine symphonies are one of his greatest
compositions. 1. Symphony No. 1 Symphony No. 1 was a dedication to Beethoven's early patron
named Baron Gottfried Van Swieten. Hoffmeister and Kuhnel of Leipzig published the symphony in
1801. The symphony is in C major, opus number 21 and was composed between 1795 to 1801.
Symphony No. 1 is influenced by Beethoven's teacher Joseph Haydn and Wolfgang Amadeus
Mozart but has features that make it stand out as Beethoven's work. The opening of the Symphony

Rip Van Winkle is a man that does good for others, but can't make a profit for himself. In the book
"Rip Van Winkle" by Irving the setting is a Dutch Village in the mountains, during the
Revolutionary war. Rip is married to a nagging wife, and has a child named Judith. Rip was
unhappy with his life especially his wife. "Times grew worse and worse with Rip as years of
matrimony rolled on; a tart temper never mellows with age, and a sharp tongue is the only edged
tool that grows keener with constant use" (Irving 406). When rip would do his best, and would even
help his neighbors Dame Van Winkle would still nag, and yell at him. When Rip fell asleep for
twenty years he had a lot of negative things in his life at the time. Rip had his crazy nagging wife,
the Revolutionary War was going on, and he had an inability to make money despite his efforts. An
example from the text that shows how negative his wife was is this quote, "His wife kept
continually dinning in his ears about his idleness, his carelessness, and the ruin he was bringing on
his family. Morning, noon, and night, her tongue was incessantly going, and everything he said or
did was sure to produce a torrent of household eloquence." (Irving 405). Due to the fact that he had
all of these circumstances weighting him down when he fell asleep, we can only imagine his

Even though Van Gogh, the first artist to have mixed impressionism and expressionism, sold only
one painting in his lifetime, he remained a true genius. Some would say that Van Gogh failed to use
impressionism to its correct form, but he wasn't doing things by the book, he mixed two types of art

I particularly like this art piece because it is complex, contrasting, and portrays certain moods and
images.
To start, this painting was made by drawing many overlapping straight lines, and painting over it
with a lacquer, then he repeated this step several more times. He then filled each shape with blue or
orange watercolor paint. You can see where the paint leaks out in some places, this provides a
balanced ratio of geometric and abstract shapes. The blending also softens the contrast between the
two colors.

and his brother would torment Van Gogh very frequently, ranging anywhere from putting salt in his
coffee to throwing snakes in his sandbox. On July 27th, while these two boys were out playing with

Washington Irving, author of the short story "Rip Van Winkle," writes, "In a word, Rip [Van Winkle]
was ready to attend to anybody's business but his own; but as to doing family duty, and keeping his
farm in order, he found it impossible" (10). Rip Van Winkle is the protagonist in this short story,
narrated by Diedrich Knickerbocker, which first appeared in 1819 in Irving's collection of stories,

the greatest pianists of all time. His innovative compositions often combined both instruments and
vocals, which served the purpose of widening the scope of the symphony, quartet, sonata, and
concerto. Over time, he has been cited one of the most crucial figures in the transition that
connected the Romantic and Classical ages of Western music. However, Beethoven's life was
marked by his struggles against deafness. This nonetheless did not stand in his way and during the
penultimate years of his life, he composed some of the works that are considered his greatest
achievements (Corbett). This was during the period that his hearing had deteriorated to an
astounding level. He died in 1827 at the age of 56.
Beethoven was born on December 16, 1770, in the then capital of the Electorate of Cologne. His
baptism was performed a day later as per catholic laws. Beethoven displayed his natural talent for

This painting was inspired by Van Gogh numerous paintings of flowers (usually sunflower) in
vases. This piece was made in a face–to–face art class, where one of my first projects was a to paint
a piece modeled after any work from an artist of my choice. Flowers are something I have always
drawn or painted, usually my "go–to," so this seemed like an obvious choice for me. Unfortunately,
I am unable to find the original painting I was examining for my project, but Van Gogh had many

However, the popular beliefs of the Tang Dynasty that shaped the people's social expectations and
behavior as depicted in The Willow Pattern is arguably the most effective at making the novel a
viable representation of the time period. This factor is not only prevalent in the characters' actions,
but it also has a prominent effect on the development of the novel's plot. Mrs. Mei, the murderer of
her husband Mr. Mei and the cause of the central conflict of the novel, reveals to have committed

vision, personality and ideas of the primitive between Vincent Van Gogh and Paul Gauguin. These

Arles says much about how their creative process differed. Gauguin's rarely depicts his subject
matter with descriptive accuracy instead he takes a place and abstracts the savage and primitive
quality that he is searching for. Brittany offers Gauguin not only a rocky savagery in its landscape
but allows him to abstract a medieval primitivism from the people in the area due to their Catholic
devotion and less modern lifestyle. In his letter to Gauguin in September 1888, Gauguin describes
