Essay on Briggs Stratton Case Analysis
Briggs Stratton Case Analysis Introduction History Stephen F. Briggs and Harold M. Stratton founded
Briggs and Stratton Corporation in Milwaukee in 1908. Briggs was an inventor and Stratton was a
successful businessman. The first product developed by Briggs was too expensive to produce and the
partners were out of money. In 1909, Briggs filed a patent for a gas engine igniter to replace the
existing magneto system in automobiles. This product was the beginning of Briggs and Stratton
becoming the largest US producer of switches and locks for automobiles. Briggs and Stratton tried
other products in the 1920 s, but they were not competitive with the Model T. Eventually, Briggs and
Stratton came up with a different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Vanguard OHV engine is a medium engine for premium markets and industrial/construction
markets. Briggs and Stratton have recently added to this line of products through alliances with two
Japanese manufacturers, Daihatsu and Mitsubishi. These alliances should allow Briggs and Stratton to
have more growth and profit potential for this product segment. The Diamond Series is Briggs and
Stratton s latest addition to their product line. These engines are targeted to the premium market for
commercial lawn care. There is not much competition in this segment. Honda seems to be the biggest
competitor and does not have a large portion of this market. Briggs and Stratton are planning to grow
this product through the international markets. The Diamond Series is considered a high growth and
high profit product and it is in the rapid growth life cycle phase. Overall, Briggs and Stratton have
three very attractive products in their product profile. This data trend seems to mean Briggs and
Stratton is well positioned in their market for continued growth and profitability. C. Trends,
Symptoms, Possible Problems Briggs and Stratton were confronted with strong competitive rivalry
from various sources, mainly the Japanese companies. The Japanese motorcycle manufacturers took
advantage of the reduced demand and the weakening of the yen, therefore, giving them an edge in the

A Speech At Texas s State Capitol
On July 1, 2013, Texas Senator Wendy Davis made a speech at Texas s State Capitol. She had an
audience of about 5,000 people, as she spoke about Women s Rights and Texan power. In Stand with
Texas Women , Wendy Davis argues that Texas is all about fairness, so women deserve equal
opportunity. Specifically, Davis states that Texas has pushed to be fair, but politicians have been
selfish in their careers. Her point is that creating equal opportunity for women will help not only
Texan families, but Texas as a whole. She also points out that Texas needs politicians who want what
is best for the state and the people. Overall, Davis s main purpose is to unite Texan women in order to
make equal opportunity to improve Texans quality of life. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The importance of the date of the Stand with Texas Women speech is that it was only a few days after
her filibuster at the senate. She was trying to reach out to the women who felt regretful about their
abortions. She was trying to further her points from the filibuster, by talking directly to the Texas
women who attended the rally. As she stood in front of 5,000 men and women at the Texas Capitol,
she stood in front of a much larger audience than expected. Her speech targeted women and men
wanting a better life for them and their families. During the weekend before she spoke Rick Perry,
knowing she is a single mother accused her of not learning her lesson (Koh, Luthra). He was pushing
her to a limit that she did not appreciate. She attacked him in her speech by stating I was lucky enough
to be able to make the choices in my life that I knew would work for me. And I don t regret for one
minute my decisions about my daughters, my education or my direction in life. She pushed through
what Rick Perry said about her, by showing her strength in her speech about her past. As abortion
rights lay as a big issue, she makes a statement about the issue in the speech. She suggested a better
way of limiting unwanted pregnancy by suggesting investing in good family planning services and
honest, effective, age appropriate sex education rather than regulating abortion. At the rally, a few

Essay on Social Control Theory vs. Social Learning Theory
Social Control Theory vs. Social Learning Theory
Abstract
Social control theory and social learning theory are two theories that suggest why deviant behavior is
chosen to be acted upon by some individuals and not others. Both take a different stance on the issue.
Social control theory suggests people s behavior is based on their bonds to society, if they have strong
bonds to society they conform and if not they have a tendency to act out or become involved in
criminal or deviant behavior. Social learning theory suggest that through vicarious learning people
learn from observing others and based on what the observe make the choice of whether to copy those
actions to obtain desired results or chose not to if ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
47 54). Also to achieve many of these goals it is very helpful not to participate in delinquent behavior
because it is looked upon negatively and could hinder the achievement of the goals.
The third element in Hirschi bond to society is involvement. Involvement in this theory is simply the
level of participation an individual actively pursues in conventional activities. Some of the activities
this could include are social events, sports teams, school clubs, religious organizations, family events,
or simply a job. These types of activities keep people busy and provide less time to participate or get
caught up in delinquent behavior. This is especially the case for adolescents as they are highly
influenced by peers who may not lead them to the best choices on how to spend their time, which
could lead to deviant behavior (Simons, Simons, amp; Wallace, 2004, p. 21).
The fourth and final element is belief (Simons, Simons, amp; Wallace, 2004, p. 21). Parents and
teachers can play an important role in children s lives by teaching them right from wrong, moral
issues, and the basic rules and laws of society. How the child comes to understand, accept, and believe
in these concepts will determine how he or she acts. If the child believes in these rules and laws and
accepts them he or she is more likely to follow the law and less likely to partake in delinquent
behavior, the opposite holds true if he or she does not believe in the rules or do not care or fear the

The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button, By Francis Scott...
The story The Curious Case of Benjamin Button by Francis Scott Fitzgerald shows society s refusal of
accepting anyone out of the ordinary. The story is about a man named Benjamin Button who is born as
a 60 year old man. As he ages from the day he is born his body and brain grows younger and younger
until he eventually forgets everything he has achieved in life, has the brain of a newborn and then
fades into nothingness.
In the face of a remarkable occurrence the only thing that Button s community cares about is their
reputation kept through conformity, although having money can earn a higher place on the social
ladder. At first his family is shocked that Benjamin is their child, his Father says , My heavens! he
murmured, in an ecstasy of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He does this to show that in 1860 and still today people care about being judged by society so much
that they try extremely hard to make themselves acceptable by following harsh and foolish
conformities and Fitzgerald thinks this is wrong. I agree with Fitzgerald s point of view, people should
care less about being examined by society and trying to fit in, and more about being their very best
selves because when people get too wrapped up in their appearance they forget who they really are.
Benjamin learns a great deal about life and society through the story. Such as learning to deal with
judgement and comments from society and also learning more about himself as a person. This made
me realise that I should also focus less about what others judge me on and focus more on how I can
challenge myself and grow bigger as a person.
I found the story, The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button very inspirational. Fitzgerald shows society s
refusal of accepting anyone out of the ordinary in a creative and intriguing story. It showed me how
society can affect people and how I can grow as a

Sydney s Northern Beaches Case Study
Introduction An increase in population and subsequent urbanisation of Sydney s Northern Beaches has
put growing pressure on the surrounding coastal ecosystems. The Manly Dam catchment area
encompasses 375 hectares of urban and industrial areas, waterways, bushland and parks (Fig. 1C).
This catchment is home to a vast number of native flora and fauna, and is a hub for recreational
activity. Preserving the ecological state of this catchment area involves developing and maintaining an
effective management strategy. Catchment Condition The overall condition of the Manly Dam

Powerful Discourses Regarding Women s Bodies
Throughout history, women and their bodies have been portrayed in numerous different forms. Some
argue that the weak female body was prone to madness and hysteria, while others praise its purity and
ability to nurse children. Edward Jorden s A Briefe Discourse of a Disease called the Suffocation of
the Mother, printed in 1603, is a prime example of the former argument. Jorden contends that women
are more liable to fall under the control of supernatural powers and evil spirits. On the other hand,
Elizabeth Clinton asserts through her publication, From the Countess of Lincoln s Nursery, that a
woman should be valued due to the significant benefits of a mother nursing her own child. These
discourses of the female body continued to conflict and show themselves in numerous pieces of
literature, undeniably influencing our culture substantially.
Concerns about the sovereign s gender formed one of the primary social considerations of this period.
As both of these documents were published directly after the end of Queen Elizabeth s reign in 1603,
one might expect to see these gender considerations revealed in the works produced during this time.
Although Elizabeth s regime brought much prosperity and order to England, some English subjects
still desired for a return to state stability through a solidification of the patriarchal system. They
believed there to be the danger in women s involvement in politics at the sovereign level due to the
weakness of the female body. However, there

Persuasive Essay For Year Round Education
Vote YES! To Year Round Education Though school might be a pain to some students, their health and
learning abilities can be effectively productive with year round education, or YRE. In contrast to the
U.S., Japan uses a 220 day year round school calendar, and Japanese students consistently test higher
than students in the United States ( Year Round School ). Putting students in YRE can help them in the
long run when it comes down to maintaining knowledge for the real world. YRE generally operates on
a 180 day schedule that includes a reduced summer vacation and frequent short breaks throughout the
school year (Chittom et al.). Failing tests and quizzes after coming back from breaks are the last thing
anyone wants to happen.
While attending schools that use balanced scheduling, the breaks that are implemented throughout the
school year may be shorter, but you get a broad variety of breaks for various occasions. YRE, or the
balanced calendar, helps to minimize the months worth of learning loss that students tend to
experience during a typical summer break (Chittom et al.). The focus of implementing a year round
school calendar is a convenient way to ignore larger problems concerning the educational system that
are not easily solved. Among year round education you retain more knowledge, get more breaks
throughout the year, and score higher and your assessments. The student health and learning abilities
are key to having success while getting classes done. With that being said, one of the most beneficial
points of year round education is student capability.
Though student benefits can be a broad range of subject, there are enough pros to cancel out the
equilibrium of the cons. Students socialization skills would be more likely to increase due to the
amount of days in the year. In YRE the students may be divided up into tracks. Single track students
and staff will go on vacations at the same time. Multi track is where a certain group/track of students
or staff take a vacation while others are at school. Matthew Lynch, from Education Week, stated The
main benefit with dividing schools in multi track and single track is for those who need extra or
remedial help. Students would be able to go back onto the

Martha Stewart Trial Case
In 2001 public celebrity Martha Stewart sold stock in a large biotech company named ImClone. This
act landed her in a large amount of trouble with the Federal Government and the SEC. She was held to
trial and many things were told and discussed throughout the trial case. Through this research you will
see several people s sides and statements they made during the jury trial and throughout the whole
case.
On December 29, 2001, just two days after Celebrity Martha Stewart sold her stock in ImClone, the
companies stock dropped sixteen percent when the Food and Drug Administration told it had rejected
the main drug Erbitux, for cancer treatment. (According to an article written by Julia Leite of the
Columbia Journalism School) Martha, by selling right before the FDA s announcement, she avoided a
loss of $45,673, a tiny fraction of her net worth, which the famous Forbes magazine estimated at $700
million just six months earlier. This decision that Stewart made would end up being one of the biggest
she would make during her whole career, that would also send her to federal prison. She was not the
only person that had invested in the company that avoided major losses just before the decision of the
FDA. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Regulators of the SEC had an easier job finding the CEO of insider trading, because when someone of
that authority sells a large amount of their own company s stock just a few days before the FDA
announcement raises a large and obvious red flag. The case for Martha Stewart would be more
complicated and more research had to be done by the regulators to prove her guilty. During the
investigation and the court trial, a piece of information was told that could hurt Martha s chance for
proving she was not

The Nordic Creation Myth
Much of the information about the Norse religion derives from Edda, which were a compilation of
Norse poem, gathered in Iceland during the Middle Ages (Lemonick and Dorfman). In Norse
Mythology, the world was created when Odin and his brothers slew the Frost Giant Ymir, and it will
end when the Giants rise against Odin and his comrades and kill them in battle. Nordic culture was
deeply centered on war, the only way one could enter Valhalla (the warrior s paradise) was to die
courageously in battle. Violence was a constant in their mythology, even love was accompanied by
murder, and treachery. Despite the harshness of death, friendship, drinking, eating, making love,
avenging wrongs, and fighting bravely was highly regarded (Citation). Nordic ... Show more content

The gods would die when the Giants and demons rose against them. The last fight would take place at
Vigrid, a field one hundred miles in length and breadth (Ashliman). Odin would be swallowed by
Fenrir the wolf, but his son would avenge him. Thor and the Midgard Serpent would destroy each
other; so would Loki and Heimdall; and Tyr would slay Garm, the fierce dog of Niflheim, and be
clawed to death in turn. The stars and all heavenly bodies would plummet from the sky as the earth
sank beneath the sea. In Nordic mythology this was the end of time when all existence would be
destroyed. From the ashes of the old world, the Nameless One would give birth to a new world
beyond the edge of time (Ashliman). Nordic mythology shares several similarities to that of the Bible,
particularly that in the end of times a great battle will be fought, from the ashes of which will be born

Comparing Huckleberry Finn And The Adventures Of Tom Sawyer
A reason why novels such as The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and The Adventures of Tom
Sawyer by Mark Twain are considered some of the best pieces of American literature is because Twain
s writing style revolutionized literature. Twain, unlike many authors at the time, chose to write his
books in a more realistic perspective of American culture. Shying away from the romantic and
transcendentalist techniques is what allowed Twain to become an instant literary giant. Within Mark
Twain s works, he successfully captures and illustrates what American life was like in his lifetime.
This realistic approach allows people to see the grim and gritty reality of his time period. Today Twain
s novels can be perceived as a portal into nineteenth century life. Back then people were desensitized
to derogatory slurs and lingos of their time just as we are to our own today. Modern people attempt to
protect their children from the harshness and evils of reality, which in turn, leads to censorship. This
crusade against political correctness has turned on to The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This type of writing style conflicted with the more popular types that only glorified America without
addressing any negative issues. Back in Twain s time, people hated the fact he had chosen to create a
slave character who had dignity, so much in fact that his book was banned from stores. This parallels
the conflict over the same book one hundred years into the future, but now there is a different reason.
In The Adventures of HuckleBerry Finn the N word appears an excessive 219 times and has been
banned in some schools because the N word was not inclusive and made students uncomfortable
(Akkoc). The N word should not be be edited from the book because it would disconnect the reader
from the realistic point of view Twain strived to achieve. It also downplays how the minority group
was treated during the time

The Large Bathers Essay
Paul Cézanne was an Impressionist painter that helped bridge the gap between Impressionism and
Cubism. Both Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso said he was The father to us all .(Paul Cézanne, 2016)
Both artists took inspiration from the Cézanne s painting The Large Bathers and made paintings of
their own from the ideas Cézanne started.
The Large Bathers show us a scene of women bathing in a river. The colors we see are mostly blue
with some browns and greens mixed in. It s thought that this painting was unfinished as Cézanne died
in 1906, and you can see some of the figures in the bottom right seem incomplete. Matisse took the
idea of bathing women but added his own signature color schemes. In Bonheur de Vivre he used
bright primary colors to pull focus to the figures, while Cézanne used perspective to bring focus.

them. While Matisse used open space, Picasso made the background come to the foreground with no
perspective being used at all, this makes the painting look flat and the ladies become the focus. The
figures are also very angular and do not show off a sensual human body like Matisse does. The figures
on the right have very odd looking faces, which Picasso was pulling from African art. (Harris Zucker,

perspective I would be happy if the offer was denied, simply because the culture instilled within

The Effects Of A Whitewashed Society On Minority...
America is suffocated in a thick coat of white idealism. The effects of this is everlasting on minority
communities across the country. Not many individuals notice the whitewash that America is drenched
in besides the individuals that live with the consequences of it. A whitewash, in societal terms is what
describes a system that has a majority of a white perspective and overlaying ideals, norms and
expectations that only supplement white idealism and privilege. The effects of a whitewashed society
are incredibly influential in societal, cultural and economic ways The whitewashing of America effects
the country in multiple social ways. One of the ways is that whitewashing leads to ignorance and
stereotyping. When living in a community that is not thriving with diversity, whites will not come into
contact with any minorities. This will cause a widespread distance between white communities and
any minorities wishing to live there. Because of this difference in how children are being raised,
Caucasian communities will learn about other minorities through television and the information told to
them from friends and family. This will inherently be received through the stereotyping of minorities
on television and the prejudice from the hearsay from individuals. With this lack of diversity,
stereotyping can inhibit any growth towards the betterment of society. As well as stereotyping,
whitewashing feeds into white privilege that enables whites in non diverse communities to feel as

The Debate Of Stem Cell Technology Essay
For my casebook, I decided to focus on the topic of stem cell technology. Stem cells are
nonspecialized cells that have the ability to divide for an indefinite length of time and develop into a
variety of cell types. This process primarily occurs early in a person s life while they are still growing.
Stem cells are also used regularly in some organs to repair damaged or worn out tissue. Stem cells
have been found to have many more clinical uses in recent years, though. Stem cells have been the
subject of much research in the scientific community. They have been looked at as potential cures for
everything from hair loss to paralysis. While many of these claims are promising looks at what the
future may hold, media has a tendency to exaggerate the current status of what is capable with stem
cells. This leaves many people guessing about what is true, and what is just science fiction. The
purpose of this casebook is to look at the gray area of stem cells and help differentiate fact from
fiction. I will do this by looking at three major media outlets that talk about stem cells, and compare
what I find with three definitive sources that have the true facts about stem cells. From my results, we
will be able to see how much major media stretches the truth about stem cells. I used three popular
news sources for my casebook. I used an article from Men s Journal titled Does Stem Cell Therapy

Earnings and earnings per share are not affected by the dividend payout.
Another option Linear Technology has to exercise its excess cash balance, they can repurchase shares
to increase the value of the firm. This repurchase option is beneficial to the company and shareholders
because in an open market share repurchase has no effect on the stock price. In addition, by
repurchasing shares the firm s earnings and earnings per share will increase. As shown in Exhibit B,
by calculating the total numbers of shares repurchased (total cash balance/price per share) and
subtracting it from the number of shares outstanding will give us the number of shares left outstanding
after the repurchase to be 261,703,052. Exhibit B shows how this decrease in the number of shares
drove up the earnings per share value by $0.10 from $0.55 to $0.65. When the company repurchases
shares instead of paying out in special dividends, the firm s value will increase and it also allows the
firm to retain its cash reserves within the company.
In general, companies pay dividends for a number of reasons. Dividends provide certainty about the
company s financial well being. Many investors prefer the steady and secure income that comes with
dividends and see dividends as strength in the company and a sign of future positive earnings.
Dividend initiators tend to be large and stable firms with low growth rates

author s main objective in the story is to present a vivid picture about his living conditions in Burma.
He also expresses his discontentment about the British Empire in regards to their imperialism policies
that they were imposing on the people of Burma. The story revolves around three themes that is a
feeling of displeasure between the Burmese natives and the British, Orwell s pressure feelings and
imperialism resentment. According to Orwell, both the conquered and conqueror are annihilated in the
event of imperialism. While working under the British command system in Burma, his personal
experience makes him to criticize the evils that were an associate of imperialism. Explicitly, the author

The History of the Word Damn Essay
The word damn has a long and complicated history. How it entered the English language and
answering the questions how, when and why it has come to mean the things it does is difficult to
answer. It can be used to mean condemn or condemn specifically to hall (by God), and can be used as
mild profanity. Tracing the road damn has traveled to become both a religious term and a swear word
shows many interesting features of language and the ways in which language are used.
The word damn entered the English language from the Old French word damne r during the Middle
English period and first appeared in writing in the early 14th c. (OED s.v. damn). In Latin the word

So, if it is not a theological tern, then why does it only appear in religious texts? This could just be a
coincidence since there were a lot of these sort of books around and many of them have survived.
Also, while these texts are about religion and worship, they were written not written for religious
scholars but for common people, and they did not yet need a new set of theological terms in English
because scholarly work was done in Latin with Latin words (Crystal 128). English was the language
of the lower classes since the Norman invasion, but by the time Cursor Mundi was written, the French
aristocracy in England had lost their original ties to France and were beginning to speak English.
These aristocrats still used many French words for prestige, but among the lower classes, English was
seen as the right and natural language and French as the language of oppression and foreignness

English over French. So we can conclude that damn was not a theological term since the first texts it

The International Table Tennis Federation
Table tennis is characterized by numerous rules that govern how the game should be played. The game
is mainly characterized by exceptionally fast reactions thereby making rules quite necessary. Players
must allow the ball to bounce once on their side of the court before returning it to the opposite end.
The initial serve is, however, exempted from this requirement. Points are scored if a team fails to keep
the ball in play. The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) instituted some key changes in the
rules of the game following the 2000 Olympics games, which were held in Sidney, Australia. The
amendments were mainly aimed at enhancing the game s viability as a spectator sport that could be
televised. Among the new changes was the increasing of the ball s diameter to 40 millimeters. Soon
thereafter, the ITTF changed the game s scoring system from 21 point to 11 point system
(International Table Tennis Federation, 2014). The serve rotation was also brought down from five
points to two. Soon thereafter, the global federation of the game changed the rules and effectively
prohibited players from hiding balls during service. In keeping with the sport s spirit of fairness, the
rules cushions opponents from being caught by surprise. Rules require that the ball must be tossed a
minimum of 16 centimeters in the air before being served. There are rules governing the course of
events during a match including which team takes the first serve. In order to highlight the numerous

In the recent past, the history of frontiers has become more relevant; spatial mobility, situational
identity, local contingency and the ambiguities of power among others are some of the elements of
borderlands history in the new millennium. Hämäläinen Truett propose an examination of borderlands

systems to produce and market a good or service. There are two types of franchises, one is product
distribution is where the trademark and logo is provided although the business systems are not
provided. Another type is a business format franchise is where the product and trademark is used
alongside the franchisee conducting the business itself such as the marketing plan and operations
manual (An Introduction to Franchising, 2001, pg.2, eBook). This essay will be discussing the
advantages and disadvantages of an entrepreneur buying a business format franchise. Some points that

Biblical Allusions In Golding s Lord Of The Flies
As authors create their stories, they use a variety of symbols to give depth to their writing. The use of
religious symbols are one of the methods Golding uses uses to attain this. In Lord of the Flies,
Golding repeatedly uses biblical allusions of the island, the beast, and Simon to correspond with the
boy s actions of temptation in sin, and the hope for rescue from the island.
One of the largest biblical allusions in the entire novel can be found as soon as the book begins, as the
island represents the Garden of Eden, with the lush groves of fruit trees directly paralleling Eden, and
having long beaches and a warm pool by the shore, it is a good place to be stranded upon. This is our
island, it is a good island. Until the grownups come to fetch us we ll have fun. (Chapter two) This
acknowledges the fact that the island is paradise like Eden, but also that the boys are still innocent, not
knowing yet the sin that plagues humanity, in the same manor as Adam and Eve, who were innocent
before they ate of the forbidden fruit and had to leave Eden. The boys also had to leave the island
when they lost their innocence, such as Adam and Eve had to. The parallels of Adam and Eve in the
boys are also represented by the quote Stood there naked, looking at the dazzling beach and water
(Chapter 1) The biblical parallel for the boys being naked on the island is Adam and Eve being naked
in Eden. Golding uses religious symbols in more than setting to influence his writing.
Golding also uses Christianity to develop major plot points in Lord of the Flies, such as the coming of
the beast onto the island and the fear surrounding it. The events of Chapter ^ beast from air connect
the beast to the falling of the Lucifer out of heaven through the events of a dead parachutist falling
onto the island. As Samneric discover the dead man, they believe that he is the rumored beast the
littluns have been fretting over, using phrases like It was awful, it kinda sat up There were eyes, teeth,
claws These events of the beast falling out of the sky resemble Satan falling out of Heaven after
betraying God , only to deceive Adam and Eve to disobey God and eat of the forbidden fruit, which
would make them lose innocence and gain the

Memories of the Atomic Bomb Shown in Children Are Game ...
Ask any two people if they remember where they were on 9/11 and you will receive a stunningly
detailed description. However, if you ask those same two people for a detailed account of what
happened that day you would receive two vastly different stories. Why is that? Well, memory is a very
subjective thing. Public memory is subject to even more hazy recollections. Scholars, witness, and
government officials all have different versions about the details. Often times it is artists who bring
together these accounts by creating work which encourages public discussion. Two such artists are
Isabelle Gardner, writer of the poem Children Are Game and Andy Warhol, painter of Atomic Bomb .
These two artists contribute to the collective memory of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One could argue these children and the public memory of the bombs are similar. People knew the
bomb was deadly, but continued to support the development of more bombs in the same way the
children must have known what they were doing was dangerous, but they too continued risk their lives
regardless of the warnings they must have received from their parents. Both the children and the
people of the times are exhibiting purposeful forgetfulness. They both refuse to acknowledge what
they are doing could be dangerous and have created a powerful trap for themselves. Gardner writes
bombs can blossom in any season and people stuck in these delusions about the bomb not being a
tremendous threat to humanity will be unprepared to deal with other of life s unpleasant realities.
(Line 14) According to poet critic Ralph Mills, Gardener was most known for her ability to showcase
The hidden fears and hesitancies we nourish in ourselves in a twisted effort to avoid encounters with
the multifarious realities of the universe we inhabit (191). Her metaphor between children and society
forgetting the dangerous natures of their activities in this poem is an excellent example of her this
ability to reflecting back society s feelings about current events and contribute her own version of the
bomb story to the collective memory of society. Gardner not only challenged the collective memory of
society of the time, she also uses the poem s structure to show a cycle of memory and

Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children, Power Relationships...
Introduction This essay explores how unaccompanied asylum seeking children (UASC) are oppressed
in the UK. An unaccompanied asylum seeking child is a person under the age of eighteen who has left
their country of origin in order to seek refuge and is separated from both parents and are not being
cared for by an adult who, by law or custom has responsibility to do so (UNHCR, 1994:121). They are
therefore applying for asylum in their own right. Discrimination is the process of identifying that
someone is different and, due to this difference, treating them unfairly (Thompson, 2006). Xenoracism
is discrimination that is aimed at people specifically because they are from a different country, and are
therefore strangers (Sivanandan, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Power is the capacity to act in such a way as to control others (Harris, 1997:28). He argues that
everyone has at least some power, and that this power, for the relatively powerless, can be used to
influence the decisions of the dominant group. Unaccompanied asylum seeking children not disclosing
information can be seen as them exercising the little power they have. This can however have a
negative impact on their lives in the UK, for example, being placed under section 17 of the Children
Act instead of under section 20, which would offer the child more support. Foucault (1977) uses
discourse to relate to how language can be used to construct ideas and thoughts about groups.
Discourses and language can therefore help construct or reduce oppression (Thompson, 2006). If a
group has power, they have the ability and opportunity to fulfil or obstruct personal, relational, or
collective needs (Prilleltensky, 2008). If the dominant discourse of a less powerful group is positive,
the group with power may help that group fulfil their needs. If the dominant discourse of a less
powerful group is negative, such as with UASC, the powerful group may obstruct them in fulfilling
their needs, and therefore will cause oppression. Innes (2010) argues that the negative discourse of
asylum seekers as a threat to British society is portrayed in government literature

Greek Mythology and Its Effects on Civilization
Greek religion encompasses the collection of beliefs and rituals practiced in ancient Greece in the
form of both popular public religion and cult practices. Many Greeks recognized the major gods and
goddesses, such as Zeus, Poseidon, Hades and many others through philosophies such as Stoicism.
The religious practices of the Greeks extended beyond mainland Greece to the islands and costs of

A Little Bit Of The Vietnamese Culture
America has been nicknamed the melting pot. Many cultures have come together within the United
States making it possible for American citizens to be able to participate in other cultures without
leaving the United States. As a result of the diversity found in America, I have been able to experience
a little bit of the Vietnamese culture through my friend, Kim. Kim has been a great source of insight

Kim s family is from Vietnam and moved here in the early 1980 s. Kim and her older siblings were

Vietnamese cultural roots and have adopted very little of the American culture. Kim graduated from
high school and college in Minnesota. She works in a leadership position for the state of Minnesota
and frequently travels to Vietnam.
Kim s approach to organizational life is very structured. In her personal and work life she starts her
day out by organizing her list of tasks that she would like to have completed or addressed by the end
of the day. She provides an educated guess as to how long these tasks should take, however, she stays
flexible if one task seems to take a little longer than expected. This is similar to how she organizes the
tasks she would like her team members to be working on. When assigning tasks she does provide a

The And The Initiative Essay
1.1.3 Scopes Now, something to be taken into account is the frequency of the appearance of the
methods. It is not hard to imagine that a permanent bombarding of warning or suggestive messages
can be counterproductive. The label in Figure 1 can turn to go unnoticed by the routine, and a same
fate can happen to the mechanisms depicted in Figure 2 and Figure 3. A response to this failure can be
the spaced apparition of the messages to bring a sense of natural spontaneity. In the same sense, the
content of the deliveries should vary randomly to incentivize the curiosity of the recipient and make
him read. Naturally, the scope of implementation of the initiative is still to be discovered given the
novelty of the proposal. What messages to what persons? How large? How frequent? What means of
information and by whom? Can we add sounds or video... can we invite actors to simulate a journal
intervention? These are legitimate questions that I would like scholars and pioneers to be engaged

Location: A forest or hill in Scotland
General Summary: The three witches meet on a stormy night out in the open country to discuss when
they should meet with Macbeth.
Analysis:
The opening scene of Macbeth is super short but it introduces the 3 most influential characters of the
play.
The witches presence in the play is very small but they remain a constant and a powerful beings
throughout.
This first scene establishes the witches connection to Macbeth. It makes the reader curious to discover
who he is and also what is the hurlyburly (I, i, 3) that the witches discussed.
Shakespeare creates dramatic irony, in that he informs the reader that Macbeth does not have and will
never have throughout the play a free action. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The witches refer to their two familiars, Graymalkin and Paddock .
The fact that they have familiars is enough to secure the reader s impression of them as witches.
Central Questions:
Why does Shakespeare open the play with the witches, rather than Macbeth?
How does this effect the first scene of the play?
What impressions can I as a reader take away from this? What effect does the way the witches speak
create?
Act I, Scene ii
Location: A soldier s camp

soldiers of Macbeth s bravery in battle and decides to make Macbeth Thane of Cawdor.

Reflective Essay on Classroom Observation

Observation Reflection
As I walked into the classroom for my first day of observations, I was greeted with a warm Hello! In
fact, each time that I entered a new classroom I was given the same greeting. All of the teachers were
more than happy to be helping a future educator by letting me observe their teaching styles and learn
new techniques to use.
Through spending time in various classrooms, I have gained valuable information that I will take with
me into student teaching and my future classroom.
Many of the things that we have talked about in class were illustrated for me in the classrooms that I
visited. The most prominent of them was the use of word walls.
Word walls are a list ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For one reading aloud lesson, the teacher used the popcorn reading strategy. She did most of the
reading, but every once in a while she picked one of the students to take over. I think that this was a
great way to handle the book that they were reading because there was some difficult vocabulary in
the section that they read that day. This style helped me to realize that even though they are in 4 th
grade, the students do not have to be responsible for all of the reading all of the time. It is a good thing
to give them a break every so often and just let them enjoy the story through following along.
However, I did like that she would stop about every other paragraph and ask questions about tough
vocabulary and what was happening in the story. This is a great way to make sure that the students
were really following along and not staring at the floor or off into space. She also was able to insert a
minilesson review on using context clues to figure out the meaning of an unknown word. Since she
knew which students would be comfortable reading the material in front of the whole class and which
would not, the teacher was able to choose the confident readers to do the reading aloud and have the
others answer the questions.
With buddy reading, I think that it is a great way for a strong reader to help a struggling reader. As a
class read their material in pairs, I heard one little girl encourage her partner who was struggling with
some of the

From Suffering To Overcoming By John Walsh
From Suffering to Overcoming Imagine taking your young child with you to run errands. You race
into Target and then are delayed as you search for the one item you need. In that one moment, your
child walks off to find the toy section. You begin to search around you and then quickly become
frantic. Your mind takes you places you have always feared. What if someone has taken my baby?
This scene and other similar to it are far too familiar in our world.
An estimated 797,000 children are reported missing in one year, however, only approximately 100 of
them are stereotypical kidnappings (Martindale 6). Many times children that are reported missing have
either run away or cannot be found for a few hours. Only a handful are taken for ransom and against
their own will. The stereotypical kidnapping, which is very rare, involves abduction by a stranger or
slight acquaintance who detains the child overnight, transports him or her at least 50 miles, holds the
child for ransom or intends to keep him permanently, or kills the child (Martindale 6). John Walsh,
host of America s Most Wanted, criminal investigator, and loving father of Adam Walsh has placed his
mark on a world full of corruption and dangerous crimes. After the murder of his son, John Walsh
used this tragic event as a motivation and inspiration to become passionate for the safety of others. He
has been able to bring some safety to a world that is full of treacherous and life threatening people,
save many lives, and

Live Electronics Essay
1.1 Research Goal The object of the proposed research is to build an authoring system for
performance of live electronics which will simplify the compositional workflow, easy the performance
and ensure the preservation. The main idea is to extend Common Western Music Notation(CWMN) to
the field of algorithmic thinking as a method for creating an abstract and cohesive representation of
the underlying logic and instrumental parts for the live electronics genre. Along with this new
notation, it is necessary to develop an authoring/performance technology environment which will
enable us to represent and execute the logical layer of the piece and composing a series of live
electronic pieces as a means for exploring, developing and evaluating ... Show more content on

Thus, the introduction of any new notational mechanisms must be designed as an organic whole about
the traditional interpretation of signs and symbols regarding music semiotics. However, it is important
to note here, that the scope of this goal is constrained to the semantics domain, as in broad sense the re
interpretation of a musical score as a logical descriptor is radical in nature. The choose of CWMN as
main descriptor of music related events is justified for the fact that CWMN is still in wide sue among
the composer community, Kurt Stone wrote regarding this fact [Stone, 1980]. In spite of the new
notational signs generated since early 1950s, a major part of our era s music, whether serious or not,
has been, still is, and probably will continue to be written either entirely by means of traditional
notation or with a mixture of old and new signs and procedures. A second important aspect relates to a
practical performance aspect. In Western Music, staff notation plays an active role in the pursuit of
communicating a complex musical idea created by the composer during the live performance. All
relevant performance information is carefully detailed in the score parts, so the score plays two roles
in the communication system, a passive role

  • 2. Essay on Briggs Stratton Case Analysis Briggs Stratton Case Analysis Introduction History Stephen F. Briggs and Harold M. Stratton founded Briggs and Stratton Corporation in Milwaukee in 1908. Briggs was an inventor and Stratton was a successful businessman. The first product developed by Briggs was too expensive to produce and the partners were out of money. In 1909, Briggs filed a patent for a gas engine igniter to replace the existing magneto system in automobiles. This product was the beginning of Briggs and Stratton becoming the largest US producer of switches and locks for automobiles. Briggs and Stratton tried other products in the 1920 s, but they were not competitive with the Model T. Eventually, Briggs and Stratton came up with a different ... These engines are targeted to the premium market for commercial lawn care. There is not much competition in this segment. Honda seems to be the biggest competitor and does not have a large portion of this market. Briggs and Stratton are planning to grow this product through the international markets. The Diamond Series is considered a high growth and high profit product and it is in the rapid growth life cycle phase. Overall, Briggs and Stratton have three very attractive products in their product profile. • 3. A Speech At Texas s State Capitol On July 1, 2013, Texas Senator Wendy Davis made a speech at Texas s State Capitol. She had an audience of about 5,000 people, as she spoke about Women s Rights and Texan power. In Stand with Texas Women , Wendy Davis argues that Texas is all about fairness, so women deserve equal opportunity. Specifically, Davis states that Texas has pushed to be fair, but politicians have been selfish in their careers. Her point is that creating equal opportunity for women will help not only Texan families, but Texas as a whole. She also points out that Texas needs politicians who want what is best for the state and the people. Overall, Davis s main purpose is to unite Texan women in order to make equal opportunity to improve Texans quality of life. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The importance of the date of the Stand with Texas Women speech is that it was only a few days after her filibuster at the senate. She was trying to reach out to the women who felt regretful about their abortions. She was trying to further her points from the filibuster, by talking directly to the Texas women who attended the rally. As she stood in front of 5,000 men and women at the Texas Capitol, she stood in front of a much larger audience than expected. Her speech targeted women and men wanting a better life for them and their families. During the weekend before she spoke Rick Perry, knowing she is a single mother accused her of not learning her lesson (Koh, Luthra). He was pushing her to a limit that she did not appreciate. She attacked him in her speech by stating I was lucky enough to be able to make the choices in my life that I knew would work for me. And I don t regret for one minute my decisions about my daughters, my education or my direction in life. She pushed through what Rick Perry said about her, by showing her strength in her speech about her past. As abortion rights lay as a big issue, she makes a statement about the issue in the speech. She suggested a better way of limiting unwanted pregnancy by suggesting investing in good family planning services and honest, effective, age appropriate sex education rather than regulating abortion. • 4. Essay on Social Control Theory vs. Social Learning Theory Social Control Theory vs. Social Learning Theory Abstract Social control theory and social learning theory are two theories that suggest why deviant behavior is chosen to be acted upon by some individuals and not others. Both take a different stance on the issue. Social control theory suggests people s behavior is based on their bonds to society, if they have strong bonds to society they conform and if not they have a tendency to act out or become involved in criminal or deviant behavior. Social learning theory suggest that through vicarious learning people learn from observing others and based on what the observe make the choice of whether to copy those actions to obtain desired results or chose not to if ... Also to achieve many of these goals it is very helpful not to participate in delinquent behavior because it is looked upon negatively and could hinder the achievement of the goals. The third element in Hirschi bond to society is involvement. Involvement in this theory is simply the level of participation an individual actively pursues in conventional activities. Some of the activities this could include are social events, sports teams, school clubs, religious organizations, family events, or simply a job. These types of activities keep people busy and provide less time to participate or get caught up in delinquent behavior. This is especially the case for adolescents as they are highly influenced by peers who may not lead them to the best choices on how to spend their time, which could lead to deviant behavior (Simons, Simons, amp; Wallace, 2004, p. 21). The fourth and final element is belief (Simons, Simons, amp; Wallace, 2004, p. 21). Parents and teachers can play an important role in children s lives by teaching them right from wrong, moral issues, and the basic rules and laws of society. How the child comes to understand, accept, and believe in these concepts will determine how he or she acts. If the child believes in these rules and laws and accepts them he or she is more likely to follow the law and less likely to partake in delinquent behavior, the opposite holds true if he or she does not believe in the rules or do not care or fear the ... • 5. The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button, By Francis Scott... The story The Curious Case of Benjamin Button by Francis Scott Fitzgerald shows society s refusal of accepting anyone out of the ordinary. The story is about a man named Benjamin Button who is born as a 60 year old man. As he ages from the day he is born his body and brain grows younger and younger until he eventually forgets everything he has achieved in life, has the brain of a newborn and then fades into nothingness. In the face of a remarkable occurrence the only thing that Button s community cares about is their reputation kept through conformity, although having money can earn a higher place on the social ladder. He does this to show that in 1860 and still today people care about being judged by society so much that they try extremely hard to make themselves acceptable by following harsh and foolish conformities and Fitzgerald thinks this is wrong. I agree with Fitzgerald s point of view, people should care less about being examined by society and trying to fit in, and more about being their very best selves because when people get too wrapped up in their appearance they forget who they really are. Benjamin learns a great deal about life and society through the story. Such as learning to deal with judgement and comments from society and also learning more about himself as a person. This made me realise that I should also focus less about what others judge me on and focus more on how I can challenge myself and grow bigger as a person. I found the story, The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button very inspirational. Fitzgerald shows society s refusal of accepting anyone out of the ordinary in a creative and intriguing story. • 7. Powerful Discourses Regarding Women s Bodies Throughout history, women and their bodies have been portrayed in numerous different forms. Some argue that the weak female body was prone to madness and hysteria, while others praise its purity and ability to nurse children. Edward Jorden s A Briefe Discourse of a Disease called the Suffocation of the Mother, printed in 1603, is a prime example of the former argument. Jorden contends that women are more liable to fall under the control of supernatural powers and evil spirits. On the other hand, Elizabeth Clinton asserts through her publication, From the Countess of Lincoln s Nursery, that a woman should be valued due to the significant benefits of a mother nursing her own child. These discourses of the female body continued to conflict and show themselves in numerous pieces of literature, undeniably influencing our culture substantially. Concerns about the sovereign s gender formed one of the primary social considerations of this period. As both of these documents were published directly after the end of Queen Elizabeth s reign in 1603, one might expect to see these gender considerations revealed in the works produced during this time. Although Elizabeth s regime brought much prosperity and order to England, some English subjects still desired for a return to state stability through a solidification of the patriarchal system. They believed there to be the danger in women s involvement in politics at the sovereign level due to the weakness of the female body. However, there ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Persuasive Essay For Year Round Education Vote YES! To Year Round Education Though school might be a pain to some students, their health and learning abilities can be effectively productive with year round education, or YRE. In contrast to the U.S., Japan uses a 220 day year round school calendar, and Japanese students consistently test higher than students in the United States ( Year Round School ). Putting students in YRE can help them in the long run when it comes down to maintaining knowledge for the real world. YRE generally operates on a 180 day schedule that includes a reduced summer vacation and frequent short breaks throughout the school year (Chittom et al.). Failing tests and quizzes after coming back from breaks are the last thing anyone wants to happen. While attending schools that use balanced scheduling, the breaks that are implemented throughout the school year may be shorter, but you get a broad variety of breaks for various occasions. YRE, or the balanced calendar, helps to minimize the months worth of learning loss that students tend to experience during a typical summer break (Chittom et al.). The focus of implementing a year round school calendar is a convenient way to ignore larger problems concerning the educational system that are not easily solved. Among year round education you retain more knowledge, get more breaks throughout the year, and score higher and your assessments. The student health and learning abilities are key to having success while getting classes done. With that being said, one of the most beneficial points of year round education is student capability. Though student benefits can be a broad range of subject, there are enough pros to cancel out the equilibrium of the cons. Students socialization skills would be more likely to increase due to the amount of days in the year. In YRE the students may be divided up into tracks. Single track students and staff will go on vacations at the same time. Multi track is where a certain group/track of students or staff take a vacation while others are at school. Matthew Lynch, from Education Week, stated The main benefit with dividing schools in multi track and single track is for those who need extra or remedial help. Students would be able to go back onto the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Nordic Creation Myth Much of the information about the Norse religion derives from Edda, which were a compilation of Norse poem, gathered in Iceland during the Middle Ages (Lemonick and Dorfman). In Norse Mythology, the world was created when Odin and his brothers slew the Frost Giant Ymir, and it will end when the Giants rise against Odin and his comrades and kill them in battle. Nordic culture was deeply centered on war, the only way one could enter Valhalla (the warrior s paradise) was to die courageously in battle. • 11. Comparing Huckleberry Finn And The Adventures Of Tom Sawyer A reason why novels such as The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain are considered some of the best pieces of American literature is because Twain s writing style revolutionized literature. Twain, unlike many authors at the time, chose to write his books in a more realistic perspective of American culture. Shying away from the romantic and transcendentalist techniques is what allowed Twain to become an instant literary giant. Within Mark Twain s works, he successfully captures and illustrates what American life was like in his lifetime. This realistic approach allows people to see the grim and gritty reality of his time period. Today Twain s novels can be perceived as a portal into nineteenth century life. Back then people were desensitized to derogatory slurs and lingos of their time just as we are to our own today. Modern people attempt to protect their children from the harshness and evils of reality, which in turn, leads to censorship. This crusade against political correctness has turned on to The ... Both Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso said he was The father to us all .(Paul Cézanne, 2016) Both artists took inspiration from the Cézanne s painting The Large Bathers and made paintings of their own from the ideas Cézanne started. The Large Bathers show us a scene of women bathing in a river. The colors we see are mostly blue with some browns and greens mixed in. It s thought that this painting was unfinished as Cézanne died in 1906, and you can see some of the figures in the bottom right seem incomplete. Not many individuals notice the whitewash that America is drenched in besides the individuals that live with the consequences of it. A whitewash, in societal terms is what describes a system that has a majority of a white perspective and overlaying ideals, norms and expectations that only supplement white idealism and privilege. The effects of a whitewashed society are incredibly influential in societal, cultural and economic ways The whitewashing of America effects the country in multiple social ways. One of the ways is that whitewashing leads to ignorance and stereotyping. When living in a community that is not thriving with diversity, whites will not come into contact with any minorities. This will cause a widespread distance between white communities and any minorities wishing to live there. Because of this difference in how children are being raised, Caucasian communities will learn about other minorities through television and the information told to them from friends and family. This will inherently be received through the stereotyping of minorities on television and the prejudice from the hearsay from individuals. With this lack of diversity, stereotyping can inhibit any growth towards the betterment of society. Stem cells are nonspecialized cells that have the ability to divide for an indefinite length of time and develop into a variety of cell types. This process primarily occurs early in a person s life while they are still growing. Stem cells are also used regularly in some organs to repair damaged or worn out tissue. Stem cells have been found to have many more clinical uses in recent years, though. Stem cells have been the subject of much research in the scientific community. They have been looked at as potential cures for everything from hair loss to paralysis. While many of these claims are promising looks at what the future may hold, media has a tendency to exaggerate the current status of what is capable with stem cells. This leaves many people guessing about what is true, and what is just science fiction. The purpose of this casebook is to look at the gray area of stem cells and help differentiate fact from fiction. I will do this by looking at three major media outlets that talk about stem cells, and compare what I find with three definitive sources that have the true facts about stem cells. From my results, we will be able to see how much major media stretches the truth about stem cells. I used three popular news sources for my casebook. In addition, by repurchasing shares the firm s earnings and earnings per share will increase. As shown in Exhibit B, by calculating the total numbers of shares repurchased (total cash balance/price per share) and subtracting it from the number of shares outstanding will give us the number of shares left outstanding after the repurchase to be 261,703,052. • 20. The History of the Word Damn Essay The word damn has a long and complicated history. How it entered the English language and answering the questions how, when and why it has come to mean the things it does is difficult to answer. It can be used to mean condemn or condemn specifically to hall (by God), and can be used as mild profanity. Tracing the road damn has traveled to become both a religious term and a swear word shows many interesting features of language and the ways in which language are used. The word damn entered the English language from the Old French word damne r during the Middle English period and first appeared in writing in the early 14th c. (OED s.v. damn). So, if it is not a theological tern, then why does it only appear in religious texts? This could just be a coincidence since there were a lot of these sort of books around and many of them have survived. Also, while these texts are about religion and worship, they were written not written for religious scholars but for common people, and they did not yet need a new set of theological terms in English because scholarly work was done in Latin with Latin words (Crystal 128). English was the language of the lower classes since the Norman invasion, but by the time Cursor Mundi was written, the French aristocracy in England had lost their original ties to France and were beginning to speak English. These aristocrats still used many French words for prestige, but among the lower classes, English was seen as the right and natural language and French as the language of oppression and foreignness (Watson 334). Cursor Mundi tries to be as English as posible, stating to its readers that it is about the love of Englis lede, / Englis lede of Engelande (qtd. in Watson 334) and goes on to the superiority of English over French. So we can conclude that damn was not a theological term since the first texts it appeared in, while religious in content, are not theological works, and, in fact, the exact opposite is true: these ... • 21. The International Table Tennis Federation Table tennis is characterized by numerous rules that govern how the game should be played. The game is mainly characterized by exceptionally fast reactions thereby making rules quite necessary. Players must allow the ball to bounce once on their side of the court before returning it to the opposite end. The initial serve is, however, exempted from this requirement. Points are scored if a team fails to keep the ball in play. The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) instituted some key changes in the rules of the game following the 2000 Olympics games, which were held in Sidney, Australia. The amendments were mainly aimed at enhancing the game s viability as a spectator sport that could be televised. Among the new changes was the increasing of the ball s diameter to 40 millimeters. Soon thereafter, the ITTF changed the game s scoring system from 21 point to 11 point system (International Table Tennis Federation, 2014). The serve rotation was also brought down from five points to two. Soon thereafter, the global federation of the game changed the rules and effectively prohibited players from hiding balls during service. In keeping with the sport s spirit of fairness, the rules cushions opponents from being caught by surprise. Rules require that the ball must be tossed a minimum of 16 centimeters in the air before being served. There are rules governing the course of events during a match including which team takes the first serve. In order to highlight the numerous ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. Biblical Allusions In Golding s Lord Of The Flies As authors create their stories, they use a variety of symbols to give depth to their writing. The use of religious symbols are one of the methods Golding uses uses to attain this. In Lord of the Flies, Golding repeatedly uses biblical allusions of the island, the beast, and Simon to correspond with the boy s actions of temptation in sin, and the hope for rescue from the island. One of the largest biblical allusions in the entire novel can be found as soon as the book begins, as the island represents the Garden of Eden, with the lush groves of fruit trees directly paralleling Eden, and having long beaches and a warm pool by the shore, it is a good place to be stranded upon. This is our island, it is a good island. Until the grownups come to fetch us we ll have fun. (Chapter two) This acknowledges the fact that the island is paradise like Eden, but also that the boys are still innocent, not knowing yet the sin that plagues humanity, in the same manor as Adam and Eve, who were innocent before they ate of the forbidden fruit and had to leave Eden. The boys also had to leave the island when they lost their innocence, such as Adam and Eve had to. The parallels of Adam and Eve in the boys are also represented by the quote Stood there naked, looking at the dazzling beach and water (Chapter 1) The biblical parallel for the boys being naked on the island is Adam and Eve being naked in Eden. Golding uses religious symbols in more than setting to influence his writing. Golding also uses Christianity to develop major plot points in Lord of the Flies, such as the coming of the beast onto the island and the fear surrounding it. The events of Chapter ^ beast from air connect the beast to the falling of the Lucifer out of heaven through the events of a dead parachutist falling onto the island. As Samneric discover the dead man, they believe that he is the rumored beast the littluns have been fretting over, using phrases like It was awful, it kinda sat up There were eyes, teeth, claws These events of the beast falling out of the sky resemble Satan falling out of Heaven after betraying God , only to deceive Adam and Eve to disobey God and eat of the forbidden fruit, which would make them lose innocence and gain the ... However, if you ask those same two people for a detailed account of what happened that day you would receive two vastly different stories. Why is that? Well, memory is a very subjective thing. Public memory is subject to even more hazy recollections. Scholars, witness, and government officials all have different versions about the details. Often times it is artists who bring together these accounts by creating work which encourages public discussion. Two such artists are Isabelle Gardner, writer of the poem Children Are Game and Andy Warhol, painter of Atomic Bomb . These two artists contribute to the collective memory of ... Both the children and the people of the times are exhibiting purposeful forgetfulness. Gardner writes bombs can blossom in any season and people stuck in these delusions about the bomb not being a tremendous threat to humanity will be unprepared to deal with other of life s unpleasant realities. Her metaphor between children and society forgetting the dangerous natures of their activities in this poem is an excellent example of her this ability to reflecting back society s feelings about current events and contribute her own version of the bomb story to the collective memory of society. They are therefore applying for asylum in their own right. Discrimination is the process of identifying that someone is different and, due to this difference, treating them unfairly (Thompson, 2006). Power is the capacity to act in such a way as to control others (Harris, 1997:28). He argues that everyone has at least some power, and that this power, for the relatively powerless, can be used to influence the decisions of the dominant group. Unaccompanied asylum seeking children not disclosing information can be seen as them exercising the little power they have. This can however have a negative impact on their lives in the UK, for example, being placed under section 17 of the Children Act instead of under section 20, which would offer the child more support. Foucault (1977) uses discourse to relate to how language can be used to construct ideas and thoughts about groups. Discourses and language can therefore help construct or reduce oppression (Thompson, 2006). If a group has power, they have the ability and opportunity to fulfil or obstruct personal, relational, or collective needs (Prilleltensky, 2008). If the dominant discourse of a less powerful group is positive, the group with power may help that group fulfil their needs. If the dominant discourse of a less powerful group is negative, such as with UASC, the powerful group may obstruct them in fulfilling their needs, and therefore will cause oppression. Innes (2010) argues that the negative discourse of asylum seekers as a threat to British society is portrayed in government literature ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

But, as stated in Gibron s article, teachers and administrators believe that because the children enjoy the books, and laugh at them, that they identify with the protagonists and their adventures, and they fear that children will try to recreate those scenarios. It becomes a threat to the status quo when children start experiencing that inner freedom that reading Captain Underpants gives children (Gibron). Although the books have been criticized for their anti authoritative tone , this isn t why the books were banned in Naugatuck, Connecticut. In fact, each time that I entered a new classroom I was given the same greeting. All of the teachers were more than happy to be helping a future educator by letting me observe their teaching styles and learn new techniques to use. Through spending time in various classrooms, I have gained valuable information that I will take with me into student teaching and my future classroom. She did most of the reading, but every once in a while she picked one of the students to take over. I think that this was a great way to handle the book that they were reading because there was some difficult vocabulary in the section that they read that day. This style helped me to realize that even though they are in 4 th grade, the students do not have to be responsible for all of the reading all of the time. It is a good thing to give them a break every so often and just let them enjoy the story through following along. However, I did like that she would stop about every other paragraph and ask questions about tough vocabulary and what was happening in the story. This is a great way to make sure that the students were really following along and not staring at the floor or off into space. She also was able to insert a minilesson review on using context clues to figure out the meaning of an unknown word. Since she knew which students would be comfortable reading the material in front of the whole class and which would not, the teacher was able to choose the confident readers to do the reading aloud and have the others answer the questions. With buddy reading, I think that it is a great way for a strong reader to help a struggling reader. • 48. From Suffering To Overcoming By John Walsh From Suffering to Overcoming Imagine taking your young child with you to run errands. You race into Target and then are delayed as you search for the one item you need. In that one moment, your child walks off to find the toy section. You begin to search around you and then quickly become frantic. Your mind takes you places you have always feared. What if someone has taken my baby? This scene and other similar to it are far too familiar in our world. An estimated 797,000 children are reported missing in one year, however, only approximately 100 of them are stereotypical kidnappings (Martindale 6). Many times children that are reported missing have either run away or cannot be found for a few hours. Only a handful are taken for ransom and against their own will. The stereotypical kidnapping, which is very rare, involves abduction by a stranger or slight acquaintance who detains the child overnight, transports him or her at least 50 miles, holds the child for ransom or intends to keep him permanently, or kills the child (Martindale 6). John Walsh, host of America s Most Wanted, criminal investigator, and loving father of Adam Walsh has placed his mark on a world full of corruption and dangerous crimes. After the murder of his son, John Walsh used this tragic event as a motivation and inspiration to become passionate for the safety of others. • 49. Live Electronics Essay 1.1 Research Goal The object of the proposed research is to build an authoring system for performance of live electronics which will simplify the compositional workflow, easy the performance and ensure the preservation. The main idea is to extend Common Western Music Notation(CWMN) to the field of algorithmic thinking as a method for creating an abstract and cohesive representation of the underlying logic and instrumental parts for the live electronics genre. Along with this new notation, it is necessary to develop an authoring/performance technology environment which will enable us to represent and execute the logical layer of the piece and composing a series of live electronic pieces as a means for exploring, developing and evaluating ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus, the introduction of any new notational mechanisms must be designed as an organic whole about the traditional interpretation of signs and symbols regarding music semiotics. However, it is important to note here, that the scope of this goal is constrained to the semantics domain, as in broad sense the re interpretation of a musical score as a logical descriptor is radical in nature. The choose of CWMN as main descriptor of music related events is justified for the fact that CWMN is still in wide sue among the composer community, Kurt Stone wrote regarding this fact [Stone, 1980]. In spite of the new notational signs generated since early 1950s, a major part of our era s music, whether serious or not, has been, still is, and probably will continue to be written either entirely by means of traditional notation or with a mixture of old and new signs and procedures. A second important aspect relates to a practical performance aspect. In Western Music, staff notation plays an active role in the pursuit of communicating a complex musical idea created by the composer during the live performance. All relevant performance information is carefully detailed in the score parts, so the score plays two roles in the communication system, a passive role ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
