Quote Essay
Writing an essay on the topic of a "Quote Essay" can be both challenging and intriguing. The
difficulty lies not only in crafting a well-structured and coherent piece but also in selecting an
appropriate quote that serves as the focal point of the essay. The task involves more than just
incorporating a quote; it requires a deep understanding of the chosen quotation and the ability to
seamlessly integrate it into the overall theme of the essay.
One of the challenges is interpreting the quote in a way that aligns with the intended message of
the essay. Analyzing the nuances and underlying meanings of the quote requires critical thinking
and a comprehensive understanding of the context in which it was originally spoken or written.
Additionally, the essay must go beyond mere analysis and delve into how the quote relates to
broader themes, historical events, or contemporary issues.
Crafting a compelling introduction that effectively introduces the chosen quote and sets the tone
for the entire essay is another aspect that adds to the difficulty. The essay should not only
expound upon the significance of the quote but also provide a clear roadmap for the reader,
outlining how the subsequent paragraphs will explore and support the ideas presented.
The body of the essay demands a careful balance between presenting a thorough analysis of the
quote and incorporating supporting evidence or examples. This requires in-depth research and a
keen eye for detail to ensure that the arguments put forth are both substantiated and cohesive.
Striking the right balance between analysis and illustration is crucial for maintaining the essay's
flow and readability.
Furthermore, the conclusion should not merely restate the points made but should offer a
synthesis of the key ideas and leave a lasting impression on the reader. Summarizing the
significance of the quote in the broader context of the essay and drawing connections to real-
world applications or implications requires finesse and a solid grasp of the subject matter.
In conclusion, writing a "Quote Essay" demands a combination of analytical skills, research
proficiency, and effective communication. It is a task that challenges the writer to explore the
depths of a chosen quote, interpret its meanings, and skillfully weave these interpretations into a
cohesive and compelling essay. It is an undertaking that requires time, dedication, and a genuine
passion for both the art of language and the power of meaningful quotations.

Analysis Of Pokemon Go By Adam Zyglis
Pokemon Go by Adam Zyglis. Zyglis is trying to tell younger generations that they
should stop focusing on video games for the sake of everyone s future. He wants
younger people to notice these world issues without having to be persuaded to do so
by a video game reward being inside. His claim is successful he points out that
something relating to the gameis inside, persuading the youngsters to look inside.
When looking at this cartoon one can see that the Zyglis is saying the only way to
get people that are into video games (younger generations) into the real world is by
bribing them with game rewards. He says there are Pokemon Go locations inside
both the news and voting area. He has it known as an effort to save our democracy.

Abstract
The aim of the present study was to investigate which hemisphere is specialised for
the perception of emotion. It was hypothesised that participants will judge
chimeric faces with smile presented in the left visual field as happier more often
than chimeric faces with the smile presented in the right visual field. Twenty six
psychology students were asked to judge chimeric faces with one half being a
smiling expression and the other half with a neutral expression. The images were
presented in their left and right visual field. Over 28 experimental trials the
participants were asked to judge which face they thought looked happier. The
percentage of chimeric faces judged as happier for both left and right visual field
was recorded. The hypothesis was supported: chimeric faces with smile presented in
the left visual field as happier more often than chimeric faces with the smile presented
in the right visual field.
The human brain is a mystery that has been studied for centuries in attempt to
understand how it functions. Scientists first thought that the brain was a structure
that functioned a whole. It was in the early 1600 s where the first ideas of
localisation of function in the brain started. At this time Rene Descartes discovered a

Miriam Makeba influenced Texas by singing about civil rights and keeping her
stature while being exiled from her country. Life on it s own has its hardships, but

Makeba initially left South Africa to further her career and explore the world.
Makeba said, If I had not left South Africa, I do not think anything would have came
out of it, and that is one of the reasons why I left. There was no scope for me there
as a black entertainer. In 1958, the South African government passed a law where
no blacks could perform in the cities. Anti apartheid songs are not allowed to be
sold or played on the radio. My songs have been banned since 1962 (youtube.com).
She sang in welcoming countries, while still relaying her message to the people in
South Africa. During Makeba s career, there were strict rules concerning racial
inequality in Africa (apartheid). Gaylord notes Makeba left the country to pursue her
career in other countries, but soon felt regret when her mother passed away and was
denied access into South Africa (csmonitor.com). Makeba says, I never knew they
were going to stop me from coming back (csmonitor.com). Makeba was exiled from
her own country because of her stance with apartheid
(southafricaproject.web.unc.edu). Bigelow and Pendergast comment, The South
African government did not agree or tolerate her opposing views
(biography.jrank.org). Makeba being exiled from her home country definitely caught
the attention of others. Many countries gave Makeba citizenship in support. She
became a symbol for the world and it s struggle with racial inequality
Essay on Ducati Case Study
February 1, 2014 Introduction:
Being a motorcycle company that produces high performance, highly successful
racing motorcycles, as well as motorcycles for the commercial market, has proven to
be a winning strategy for Ducati. This case focuses on Ducati Corse, a subsidiary of
Ducati Motor Holding S.p.A. that manages racing teams, bike development,
promotions, and sponsorship areas of the company. Ducati Corse is a relatively small
organization that encourages cross departmental integration with its internal teams to
achieve the best motorcycle design and racing outcomes as possible. Ducati started
racing in the new MotoGP Circuit during the 2003 race season. With unexpected
positive racing results, Ducati took the data collected ... Show more content on

Ducati s success was a combination of Ducati engineers passion for their work, their
detailed attention to the design process, and a well defined, developed method called
the Ducati Method. The Ducati Method helped lead to modular design via extensive
use of CAD and simulation technology to optimize the design before physically
developing the components followed by intense testing to validate the design.
Question 2: How did Ducati use data?
Processing, interpreting, and using real time data is a complex task which the
Ducati engineers employed with the help of other departments. They utilized rider
feedback from the races, videos of each race, track tests, data on race performance,
and functional data acquired by on bike sensors. Ducati used the data from the track
to identify problems that could not be detected in simulation. This type of data is
excellent for measuring relative performance, evaluating structural stress loads,
drivetrain torque, and system temperatures. However, it can be greatly influenced by
the driver and environmental conditions. Data of this volume proved difficult to sift
through, and additional staffers were hired to tackle it for the 2004 season.
Question 3: What is your assessment of their approach?
We feel that Ducati s approach was ineffective due to the lack of a structured plan
with clear priorities. Ducati Corse tried to solve more problems than they were able,
which seemed to result in missed

Building a More Just Society
The Role of the Judiciary
The Judicial Branch is one of three equal branches of the United States government.
Article III of the American Constitution invests federal judiciary power within the
Supreme Court. The extent of the power of that has been debated all through U.S.
History. Along with the federal judicial system, all 50 states have a judiciary which
interprets individual state laws and on occasion it interprets federal laws too. The
judicial system administers justice and constitutes the judicial branch of the
government. Justice ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The judiciary branch maintains the responsibility of ensuring justice with equality.
Therefore even though this branch does not make laws, through a judicial review it
does reserve the power to change the law if they find that the states laws are
incompatible with legislation of the constitution The term judiciary not only
describes the court system but is also refers collectively to the professionals that make
up the bench, including the judges, magistrates and various other adjudicators. This
group along with the staffs forms the core of the judiciary bench. Professionals in the
judiciary, including prosecutors, defense attorneys, and judges, must execute justice
by upholding the law in an ethical manner. Their separate depictions of various
courts suggest the metaphor of a pyramid: at increasingly higher levels of the
judiciary, the range of operative goals narrows and variation among judges
diminishes. At the lowest levels, in this metaphor, interest in the content of legal
policy is one of many motivations for judges behavior, motivations whose importance
differs from judge to judge. At the highest level, in the Supreme Court, only an
interest in the content of legal policy influences the behavior of any justice. (Baum,
1991) The judiciary system in the United States is more sophisticated than judicial
systems around the world. The judicial system serves thousands pf people daily; law

Polio Virus Essay
Polio Virus
Introduction
The polio virus which causes poliomyelitis in humans is an enterovirus which
belongs to the picornavirus (small, RNA) family. Polio virus is rapid, acid resistant,
stable, highly tissue specific and consists of a single stranded, positive RNA. Polio
virus is able to reside in the throat or intestinal tract of humans. Poliomyelitis is a
highly contagious infectious disease which has three strains, poliovirus 1 (PV1),
PV2 and PV3. Polio virus, although rare in developed countries, can be found in
many under developed countries due to the uncommonness of vaccinations there.
Polio is known as a disease of development. The oldest known record of polio is in an
Egyptian stone engraving of a young priest from 1350 ... Show more content on

Receptor mediated endocytosis is thought to take the receptor into the cell. Polio
virus is tissue tropic, meaning it replicates only in specific tissue types, generally
lymphoid tissue in the pharynx and intestine. After uncoating, polio virus, which is
an RNA virus, takes a single RNA molecule in its protective capsid. This RNA can
be converted directly to a protein in the cytoplasm. The virus must then replicate its
RNA using viral RNA directed RNA polymerase. After replication of its own RNA,
the virus must package the new RNA into capsids in order to infect more cells.
Transmission
After replication in the mouth and intestine, polio virus spreads through the body via
the blood. Polio virus is contained in the Peyer s patches of the small intestine.
Transmission to the central nervous system and neuronal cell destruction is seen in a
small number of infected individuals.
Damage
Polio virus affects humans by a lytic cycle. PV1 which is usually associated with
epidemics causes paralysis and consequently the most deaths. PV2 normally causes
meningitis and a less severe paralysis. PV3 is usually associated with sporadic
cases of polio virus. The majority of polio cases include only diarrhea symptoms or
the individual is completely asymptomatic. Five percent of polio cases show flu like
symptoms of fever, malaise, headache, nausea, sore throat, upset stomach, and achy
muscles. In one percent of

What is franchising??
Franchising is a business strategy for getting and keeping customers. It is a marketing
system for creating an image in the minds of current and future customers about how
the company s products and services can help them. It is a method for distributing
products and services that satisfy customer needs. Franchising is a network of
interdependent business relationships that allows a number of people to share and
experience the brand. It is a successful way of promoting brand identification.
Ltd stands for limited it is the liability of members of a specific company, which
enables members to a certain percentage, either what has been invested or guaranteed
to the company. Famous Brands is a Public limited company because it is listed on
the Johannesburg stock exchange. Their shares are a blue chip
The Effects Of Climate Change On The Planet
The effects of climate change have become more apparent than ever within the last
100 years. Increasing climates have been proven; with the warmest temperatures in
30 years being recorded (Houghton, 1994). Suggested cause of this increase is
population change, the ever increasing demand for natural resources to sustain
economic growth has resulted in exploitation of ecological systems at a rate never
recorded before. These huge changes to the planet will have a knock on effect to
individual and global ecosystems resulting in varying levels of positive feedback.
Throughout this essay I will be discussing on various ways climate changeeffects the
ecology of the planet.

Evidence such as the rising of sea level by 17cm in the last century or the 150

climate change is happening to us currently and the effects are immediate.
The Carbon Cycle consists of the vital components for all animal and plant lives. It
is primarily a reflection on primary and secondary production (Krebs, 2009). As
seen in Figure 2, carbon levels have not been constant throughout history. Figure 3
represents the basic components of the Carbon cycle. The diagram shows that the
oceans are the largest sink of carbon, and is at a constant equilibrium of
atmospheric CO2 and aqueous CO2. The increase in atmospheric CO2 levels
causes ocean acidification by decreasing the pH of the oceans. PH values are said
to have dropped by 0.1pH units since pre industrial levels and are expected to drop a
further 0.3 units by the end of the 20th century (Scott C Doney, 2007). This chemical
change will have knock on affects in many marine ecosystems, which will be
discussed later.
However, there are positive results of the rapid increase of CO2 in relation to plants

Essay on The True Character of Isabella in Measure for...
The True Character of Isabella in Measure for Measure
Some critics of Shakespeare s play, Measure for Measure, judge Isabella as a
narrow minded but passionate girl afflicted with an irrational terror of sex (Barton,
546), a young, immature woman demonstrating moral absurdity and cruelty
(Nicholls, 478), whose actions are scarcely defensible. A classmate of mine asked,
Why doesn t Isabella just sleep with Angelo? What s the big deal? These statements
reveal that these people have no understanding or sympathy for Isabella s position:
socially, morally or physically.
Perhaps I take the issue of Isabella s character so seriously because I played the role
of Isabella in our college s production of the play. ... Show more content on

Yet I found that the script does allow for an Isabella of greater richness than we
usually see reflected in print. From within, I measured her differently.
We often hear that Isabella is a rigid absolutist, particularly in her attitude toward
sexual activity outside marriage. But beginning at the beginning, I found that Isabella
is a humorous, tolerant wit. Now I imagine that those adjectives surprise you, but let
me move through her first scene, taking into account the choices our director Ronnie
Larson, the other actors and I made. In Act I scene iv, I was blocked to enter quietly,
head down, and then suddenly see the Duke (disguised in his monk s habit) who
was still center stage after his soliloquy. I paused, while our Duke awkwardly and
hesitantly blessed me with the sign of the cross. I smiled and shook my head
slightly, amused at his evident bashfulness, thinking Who is this strange brother?
This moment gave me a sense of calm certainty I knew what I was doing in this
convent and in a habit, even if he didn t. I passed downstage of him as he exited,
unfurled a large white cloth on the stage as a symbolic altar, and kneeled on it,
beginning an audible rosary, Hail, Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Our Lucio, entering from the audience, saw me praying and knelt down beside me
for his line, Hail, virgin, if you be.

As a result of per the Building laws, the insulation is against airborne sounds like
voices, not against the impact of sound against the walls like hammering a nail,
noise pipes or vigour bed sheets. Once sound meets the building, like a floor, a
ceiling or a wall the sound reflects back to the area, a part of it is absorbed by the
fabric and the left over is transmitted to the succeeding area. The sound absorbed,
mirrored and transmitted depends on each of the thickness/thinness of the wall as
well as the material on the wall. (Figure 1) Katherine Shonfield makes a case for
this idea in her book Walls have Feelings within which she highlights that in
Rosemary s Baby, Rosemary is lying awake in her bed, the noise from her
neighbour is keeping her awake and once she sleeps the sound becomes her
nightmare. This might be because of the poor sense of designing, the wall that is
supposed to defend her has failed to guard her. Similarly, in Repulsion, the
protagonist, Carol will hear a tolling bell from outside which calls nuns in a
neighbour convent to prayer. Due to poor planning of the building occupants may
have heavy health problems. Health problems like high blood pressure, deafness,
sleep disturbances, amendment of behaviour additionally as psychological issues,
etc. The said nightmare which Rosemary have could be due to the lack of sleeping
or the disturbance of the sleep. The noise problem should be solved

Giant Squid Research Paper
Architeuthis dux, better known as the giant squid has been around for years. During
that time, scientists studied the predator and photographed the giant creature that
lived in the deep waters of the ocean. Yet, there is an even larger predator. The
Mesonychoteuthis hamiltoni: The Colossal squid is longest creature of the deep. It
weighs over 1000 pounds, and has shorter tentacles ( Meet 71) Purely by accident, a
colossal squidmeasuring 14 feet was netted by a fisherman in 2007. Many years
prior to this, a squid measuring 15 meters....and stretched like rubber bands [so] the
actual size might have been smaller (McConvey 50) was given to Rev. Moses
Harvey in 1873. Never the less, because of this captured species, scientists were able

Designing A Successful Web Advertising And Marketing...
Search engine marketing providers have increased in significance and there have
been a number of traits enveloping the market. Most web optimization corporations
are anticipated to know and perceive the algorithms created for serps, but solely few
are in a position to crack it with precision.
Some sites get extra guests than the others while some fail to get even some guests
depending on their online presence. It is the major job of an search engine
optimisation specialist to spice up the presence of the sites. The algorithms
determine if the positioning web page needs to be in the first page for a relevant
keyword. Natural search engine optimisation providers and results resolve the online
presence of a website to an important extent.
There are many steps to create a successful web advertising and marketing strategy
associated to natural search engine optimization providers which embrace several
content material management options, hyperlink building companies, articles, press
releases and directory postings for better web optimization placements. For lasting
visitors stream and enhanced conversion rates, seo works the best.
Article Submission is likely one of the greatest methods of organic search engine
optimization companies as articles supply a generic platform for linking again to the
main web site with out being blatantly promotional. The readers profit by getting a
generic insight into the market and in addition a related supplier of the services. The

This week s reading starts with a Chapter 2 Transition and Change. After reviewing
the chapter for a second time there were a few nuggets that stood out to the reader,
nuggets that would be very beneficial to be mindful of when assisting family
businesses with transitions and changes. As stated last week the Godrej Group
provides four characteristics of a family firm that will help protect the sources of their
past success and at the same time, seek needed innovation. (Schuman, A., Stutz, S.,
Ward, J.L. 2012, p. 38). This concept includes the complex successor dilemmas. This
component was best summarized by a quote from Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh
which states Change does not change tradition. It strengthens it. Change is a... Show

Because the family business it so new, family paradoxes like making time for
family trips and vacations may arise. For the 2nd generation the family business is
more family focused. The paradoxes that arise are often regarding whether the
revenues should be used to give family members larger salaries or update
equipment. The 3rd generation is often more business focus, but it s focus is
extremely different from G1. This third generation is often searching for way to
include all the members of the founding family and their unique skill sets to
expand the brand, oversee the philanthropy activities and handle other areas of the
family business besides production. The reading shows that the family priorities for
G1 is roots and wings, for G2 is work and home, and for G3 is loyalty and freedom.
The key impact areas of strategic choice for G1 is action and planning, for G2 is

management philosophy for G1 is expedience and patience, for G2 is task and

Pros And Cons Of Plastic Water Bottles
United States is the leading country on a global scale that produces and consumes
millions of gallons of water annually. Oil, a limited and expensive resource, is used
in the process of creating polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastic water bottles
which is generally regarded as a safe and recyclable packaging material. (Palliser,
2010) The process of manufacturing bottled waterto meet the United Statesdemand
uses more than 17 million barrels of oil annually. (Ban the Bottle, 2014) The
following examples will help to visualize how much of valuable, natural resources
are used: in a year, the energy used to produce bottled water is enough to power
190,000 homes and the millions of barrels of oil used is enough to fuel 1.3 million
cars. (Ban... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to a four year, detailed investigation to evaluate the quality and safety of
bottled water conducted by an environmental advocacy group, the Natural
Resources Defense Council (NRDC), traces of various chemicals (THMs such as
chloroform and BDCM, both probable human carcinogens) and arsenic were
discovered in high levels. Another chemical found in PET plastic bottles is
antimony that is harmless in small doses but in larger doses can cause nausea,
vomiting, and death. (Ban the Bottle, 2014) A senior scientist at the NRDC, Dr.
Gina Solomon told The New York Times that there is no reason to believe that
bottled water is safer than tap water. (Ban the Bottle, 2014) Public water in the U.S.
is heavily regulated by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) because they
require numerous tests for bacteria daily which are available to the public. The Food
and Drug Administration (FDA) regulates bottled water and only require tests on a
weekly basis and does not share their discoveries with neither the public nor EPA.

Eddy changes Gus in three different ways: when she directly interacts with him, by
her absence and by her reappearance. On their first encounter with one another Gus
is compelled by her differences in dress, techniques and gear. After she leaves, Gus
feels a need to fulfill his empty life. Finally when she shows back up in his life, Gus
then has everything he could ever ask for: a beautiful woman who loves to fish, just
like him.

Gus feeling like a complete fool dives deep into the river and tries to block it all

Mushu In Mulan
Mushu is the one of the character in the Disney featured film Mulan. Mushu is the

protector of her family. Based on this film, the character design of Mushu was using
the traditional Chinese dragon appearance as the concept as well as this film is a
Chinahistorical story. Chinese dragons could control many elements and did not
require wings to fly, and it was depicted as a benevolent creature, which respected as
gods. The position and the identity of Mushu have clearly shown in the film that
Mushu has a contrasting character compared to the concept of Western dragon, which
is more towards aggressive appearances. At the beginning of the film, Mushu does not

Comparison of jump height between males and females
Figure 1: Comparison of avg jump (in CM) between males (n=11) and females
(n=10) with a p value of 0.00203. This p value indicates a significant difference
between the avg. jump heights of males and females. The bars are the avg. jump
heights along with standard deviation of the mean.
Results: The p value of 0.00203 is p lt;0.05 thus we reject the null hypothesis and
conclude that there is a significant difference between the two means. A big part that
contributes to this result (significant differences) is that males on average tend to
have more muscle mass than females ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Maybe calves do play a roll but one that causes a relationship between the two. Other
factors could have affected the overall results could be that the jumping was not
standardized, lack of a bigger sample size, and the fact that when measuring the jump
height it had to be predicted where the person s hand reached, thus leading to huge
assumptions on the measuring part.
Comparison of calf circumference and jump height in females
Figure 3: Comparison of avg. calf circumference and jump height (both in CM) in
females (n=10). A R2 value of 0.0426 (0.042592 in EXCEL) indicates a weak
relationship between calf circumference and jump height.
Results: Obtaining a R2 value of 0.042592 means there is no relationship between
calf circumference and jump height. One cannot determine the jump height by having
the calf circumference. Similarly with the calf circumference and jump height in
males, physiologically, it would make more sense for the hamstrings and quads to
play a bigger role in jumping height as they are bigger muscles and generate most of
the force to jump. Even if calf circumference did have a role it might be insignificant.
Additionally, there could have been other factors that contribute to the end results:
everyone not jumping with the same intent (max effort versus minimal effort),
possible injuries, or soreness. Another source that could have contributed to end
results for being what they are is the lack of a big sample size. Additionally,
measuring the

Cathedral Vs Gothic Architecture
Unique. Geometric. Creative. A sculpture of perfect unity. These words may describe
many buildings in the world, but they nearly define Gothic architecture. We pass by
buildings and churches on a daily basis, that never seem to catch our eyes. They seem
meaningless to us until we take the time to search through the architecture on that
building. Architecture provides a great deal of detail, beauty, and uniqueness to a
building. Especially, Gothic architecture, which is an extraordinary type of
architecture, that thrived from the 12th century to the 16th century, in the Middle
Ages. This architecture was not only created to provide beauty to the city, but to
show meaning, and inform the citizens about the religion of Christianity. Gothic
architecture features reflected the meaning and purpose of Christianity.
The architecture of this building reflects Biblical references seen in the Christian
religion. For instance, Romanesque Cathedrals were built in the shape of the cross
that Jesus Christ died on. As well, the altars located inside the cathedrals pointed east,
towards the city of Jerusalem, indicating that the world is waiting for the second
coming of Christ (Nero). Not only did the architecture of Romanesque cathedrals
reference to Christianity, but it also helped advance the knowledge of the religion.
Therefore, the innovations that led to the change from Romanesque to Gothic
architecture allowed cathedrals to expand upon the principles their building stile

Comparing Kant s View Of Hobbes On Good And Evil
Good and Evil
Hobbes s account of good is something people desires, and his account of evil is
something people avoid such as death. So, based on this information on this
subject Hobbes s view is very different from other philosophers since he believes in
the greatest evil instead of believing in the greatest good. According to Hobbes s
view and the points he made, it shows a different perspective aspect of seeing
human s nature like how he describes as solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short and I
think his point holds a reasonable ground. Lastly, I will explain why his good and evil
is a part of this world.
To begin with, Hobbes s account on good and evil is very different than any other
philosophers because he believes in the greatest evil when they do not think the
greatest evil exist. Hobbes does not believe in the greatest good as the other
philosophers because he does not consider that there is a god or anything that will
give people some happiness and pleasure. Because I think that Hobbes believes good
comes based on a desire within a person. Based on the Leviathan. , Hobbes states that
men s desire is called good and people s hate is considered evil. He believes that good
and evil comes from people s nature, especially when it ... Show more content on

Franklin Roosevelt And The New Deal
Over the course of the semester I have retained an abundance of information in
Professor Tiraterra s history class. He has informed us on plenty of information and
the topic I took most interest in was The New Deal. From my knowledge the
underlying issue was the Great Depression. Franklin Roosevelt won the presidency
election in 1932 due to his idea of The New Deal. The New Deal was his solution to
help the awful crisis happening in America. Franklin Roosevelt and the
government were in search of a variety of means to restore the economy and the
hope of the American people. I will discuss the events that lead to the New Deal
and the legacy of The New Deal along with some of its successes and failures. I will
also talk about the role Franklin Roosevelt took part in shaping the federal
governments new powers. In addition, I will consider the pros and cons The New
Deal had on the American people s lives and the perspective it portrays still to this
day. Now that I summed up the topics I will discuss, I will begin to talk about the
events that led up to the New Deal.
I learned in class that the economic boom of the 19 20s came to an end when the
stock market crashed on October 1929 leading America into the great Depression.
Although it did not cause the depression it did play a major role in sculpting the
events in which occurred soon after the market crashed. Consumer spending ceased
causing thousands of businesses to fail. Millions of people lost their jobs as companies

Notes On Bonds And Bonds
Chapter One
Bond Basics
What are bonds?
Bonds are investment tools in form of a debt. When the government, corporate
bodies, or municipalities want to borrow from the public, they issue bonds. By
investing in bonds, you are simply lending your money to the issuer of the bond
(government or a corporation) at an interest for a given period of time. Usually
bonds have a face value, which is the money being borrowed, the coupon rate which
is the interest rate to be paid to the investors and the maturity date, which is the date
you get paid the money you invested. Bonds are issued for varying period of time,
may be three months, one year or even five years.
When an organization issues a bond, it makes a commitment to you (investor) that it
will make regular (quarterly, biannually, or yearly) payment of the interest at a
specified rate on the total amount it borrowed from you (face amount) until the
maturity date of the bond when it will repay the principal. This simply means that
when you invest in bonds you start earning interest regularly until the maturity date of
the bond when the issuer of the bond pays back the principle (money borrowed).
Because of the facts that you get paid interest regularly and the principle upon the
maturity of the bond, this investment instrument is often termed as a fixed income
security.
Bonds alongside other investment vehicles such as term deposits and cash are often
classified together as income assets because they provide a reliable and

not just a team. You need to work and train harder than everyone thinks. Especially
if you re an olympic player. You also need to focus on the team not just yourself

trying to get the puck and getting around the goalie. This is the story of ice hockey.

The things that throws many people of about them is that they are twins! You also

these twins, but it is easy enough seen when these twin sisters are headed off to
other countries to do what they love to do. These sisters will be at Pyeongchang
for the 2018 olympic games. Jocelyne states that, When we get the opportunity to

Jocelyne, It s always there. So whenever we have an opportunity to have a couple

Synopsis Of The Flies By F. Scott Fitzgerald
All Natalie could see was the endless forest of tall redwood trees in every direction.
The sun glistened just over the horizon, turning the sky the dark orange color of
sunset. Feeling overwhelmingly alone, she looked down at her light brown tabby
cat, Merlin. He was fairly small, with paws the size of quarters and a height of
about nine inches, and Natalie loved him more than anything in the world. He was
always there when she felt scared or alone, and Natalie knew she could trust him to
be just as intelligent as she could ever be. She stroked his short, soft fur at the neck,
where a spot of white formed the distinct shape of a crescent moon. It was a simple
action, a nervous tic of hers. Merlin s green eyes met her own brown ones, and a...

reassurance that she was okay, and went forward to try to open the door. It was

break them lest the wind come into the house. The white drapes were simple and
undecorated, and hid the interior of the house from her view. The smoke coming
from a small chimney was carried off into the wind. Natalie felt that this house was
here for a reason, and felt welcomed by it. The house could be a shelter from the
harsh winter wind outside. After hours of looking, Natalie stumbled upon a loose
log in the wall. She feverently scratched at the log to pull it out , and eventually
found a small silver key in a box, the box tied with a fine silver chain. The key easily
slipped in, and the girl and her companion walked into the house.
The door opened with a loud creak that echoed in the house. Natalie locked the

Grass fed beef won t look and doesn t taste exactly the same every time you buy it.
Grass fed beef also has a reputation for being tough and lacking tenderness, but is said
to be more juicier and true beefy flavor. Some studies show there isn t a real clear cut,
consistent taste differences between grass fed and corn fed beef. Corn fed beef has
more fat than grass fed beef so the cook, chef would have more room for error with
some corn fed beef rather than some grass fed because that fat adds flavor that you
can lose if you overcook leaner grass fed beef. But like the organic free range chicken
and regular grocery store chicken we had in contemparary class, being raised on corn
fed beef, the texture and flavor of grass fed beef can taste a bit off and we may think
it doesn t taste how true beef should taste. The styrofoam containers of corn and
grain fed convential beef that are at the Shop and Save s, Schnucks will be more
cheaper than a pack of grass fed beef at Whole foods or any other local markets that
sell grass fed beef. You probably could get grass fed beef for the same price as your
corn beef a Diebergs or other grocery stores if you where to buy directly from a
farmer of livestock.
Traditionally, before man started to produce and make a living off of cow s, all beef

Rodney King Violence
170 On The 91
April 29th, 1992. A jury in Ventura County acquitted four white Los Angeles Police
Department officers of brutally beating Rodney G. King, an unarmed African
American motorist. The riots that followed over the next five days left more than 50
people dead, more than 2,000 injured, and nearly 12,000 arrested (Los Angeles Riots
Fast Facts). My father, James Webster, was a witness to these riots.
On March 3, 1991, paroled felon Rodney King led police on a high speed chase
through the streets of Los Angeles County before eventually surrendering.
Intoxicated and uncooperative, King resisted arrest and was brutally beaten by
police officers Laurence Powell, Theodore Briseno, and Timothy Wind ( Riots Erupt
in Los Angeles ). The incident was caught on video, and is still viewable on YouTube.
The 81 second video featured the LAPS officers repeatedly delivering baton blows,
kicking King until he fell to the ground. To say that they just beat him is a severe
understatement. The video also captured King cowering on the concrete, and
attempting to crawl away, but to no avail, as the police officers swarmed around
him. Rodney King was beaten inches from death. Its images have been seared into
the minds of viewers the world over who have watched the tape broadcast repeatedly
( The L.A. Riots, 25 Years Later ).
Rodney King was released without charges, and the four LAPD officers were
acquitted of any wrongdoing, since jurors were not convinced the video evidence
Observable Artifacts In Chrysler s Sales Chief Peter Fong
Cultural values of a company that are heard through stories or seen in a workplace
such as manner of dress, pictures, signs, or awards are examples of observable
artifacts (Kreitner Kinicki, 2013). There is a flaw to studying observable artifacts.
The possibility of making incorrect conclusions exists if we are not aware of how
they relate to basic assumptions. This is especially true for organizational stories
shared that are problematic. Lessons of a story will not be interpreted if persons do
not understand the basic assumption behind it (Schein, 1990). An example of an
observable artifact in this week s reading is a story regarding Chrysler s sales chief
Peter Fong. An issue that plagued other car manufactures was a frustration that
Michael Smith Monologue
Michael Smith, living in London and married to Katerina Smith.
Don t talk to the stars, but let them talk to you We found this written on a piece of
paper together with Mike s full name and the company address, she kept in her
brown bag. There was no explanation. We didn t know why this lady came to find
Mike, but clearly, she had a reason. I hate winter, but a huge part of me preferred to
live in an ice cube for the past year and I ignored the lightest touch of a sunbeam,
which traveled from far to melt down the cruel water diamonds surrounding my

He believed he was lucky, but actually, he was just unfortunate. The year after, he
won a lottery and then he died. Are you wondering how? He was bitten by a bee
while he was drinking his tea in the garden. It was shocking for his family to find
out that he had a strong allergic reaction. Two hours before that, his face was
everywhere on the internet, because he donated half of his money to a charity.
After his funeral, his sister decided to spread the word about this man. When I first
read this story, I thought that it wasn t true. It was something you couldn t even
make up. No way that this happened. They must have made it all up and put it on
News. But it did happen. I find it hard to believe stories like this and you would be
surprised how many of them happen every day. Maybe not so thrilling and
adventurous, but they do. My life turned into a story like that too. Not so life
threatening, though, but for a woman like me, it was a lot to take in anyway. Some
strange woman from Spain traveled all the way to London to find my husband. But
sadly, she didn t make it and left a lot of question marks behind. A week ago, I was
convinced that my husband had an affair. And the worst wasn t even behind us yet.

United Essay
Throughout first year Sem we have talked about a lot of different subjects that
ultimately tie all together as one. The main theme for the year is a call to family
and community. To go over this we read United by Cory Booker. United wasn t
just used to be read but it was used to help us think and connect to what is going on
in the real world. To use this connection we used examples of current events, to use
a real world application. In doing this it s made me think more about the world and
what could be done to help with the little issues. In current events we had talked
about many different things. Mostly they consisted of politics, race or killings all
around the world. Hearing about some of these was heartbreaking but important to...

One of my favorite events that happened this semester during first year sem was
hearing the voices from inside. Getting to hear these quick poems that these
women wrote was amazing. Most were good and came from the heart. Hearing
from these women made me want to talk with some of them after. When I did go to
talk to them I heard about some of their experiences and get to know why doing
this program helps. Some of them were into some hard stuff and lost some of their
family and loved ones because of it. They get ten minutes to write their piece and
they really write what they are thinking. Some talk about their time in jail through
a poem and others talk about what it was like before getting convicted. It would be
fun to hear more from them. Another thing we did was have a talk with Alaina
DiGeorgio about having privilege. Doing the bead activity made you think about
what privilege you have. Going through the list made you think more about what
people actually go through on a daily basis. Some people don t get the items that
we have or even the family and friends we might have. There are so many new
issues happening in the world people are losing out on some of the great things
that we have as well. The last activity I talked about ties into United a little bit.
Reading United I was reminded about ow little people only a few hours away have.
If they had done the bead activity it would be harder for them because maybe they
might not have the same experiences we have.
Morality In Flannery O Connor s Dead Man Walking
The story, Dead Man Walking, is about a Catholic Nun, Sister Helen Prejean who
begins to have communications with prison inmates who are death row for the
murder of teenagers. She eventually decides to visit Patrick Sonnier, a man in prison
and even becomes his spiritual advisor. It is through these interactions that she
begins to have sympathy for those who are supposed to face a similar penalty,
especially when she finds out that sometimes the people who are convicted are not
the ones who committed the offense. Prejean also looks at the issue from the
morality that is presented in the bible. She states, Do you really believe that Jesus,

claims to catch up with for crime doing are those who are not wealthy. She is told
about how African American women in the city have been suffering in the hands of
the police. She, therefore, goes a step further in trying to get the authorities to be
aware of the fact that it is essential to carry out proper investigations especially when
the lives of people are involved. In the book, she mentions... That, I believe, is what it
s going to take to abolish the death penalty in this country; we must persuade the
American people that government killings are too costly for us, not only financially,
but more important, morally (p.

Although I grew up in a military family, I never saw myself going into a military
career. Up until I was about fourteen years old, I planned on being a marine
biologist in Hawaii. Sounds nice, right? Well, at the end of my eighth grade year I
decided that I might as well join NJROTC, because all of my friends were doing it
and it seemed okay. I have to say, looking back, I was quite naive. Joining NJROTC
was the smartest and most valuable decision I have made to this day. As a freshman,
I was timid and had little to no confidence. When I went to my first drill practice, I
felt like I was in my element. Everyone there wanted to be there, they all joined
NJROTC because they wanted to. After attending many drill practices, and NJROTC

Being a platoon commander, I had to make eighteen individuals have the mindset of
a team, in order to prepare them for Annual Military Inspection. This worked to the
utmost degree, because we passed our Annual Military Inspection and were
recognized as an distinguished unit with academic honors, and we were the Area
Four Most Outstanding Unit. Knowing that I was apart of achieving this honor is
the most overwhelming feeling of accomplishment. This showed me that I was
growing into someone who could change a group of individuals into a team, and
that was something I could have never imagined before NJROTC. This skill would
be put to it s ultimate test the coming summer, when I was chosen to go back to
Area Four Leadership Academy/Sail Training as a platoon aide for Gold Platoon. At
the end of those two weeks, I turned 38 cadets into one team, and that team was the
overall Honor Platoon, and won five out of the seven competitive events at LA/ST.
Now, as a senior, I had to face a more difficult choice, college. I applied for both the
AROTC and NROTC scholarships, with hopes that I would receive at least one.
About a week before Thanksgiving, I received an email from the US Army Cadet
Command, stating Congratulations, you have been awarded and AROTC

was the sign that all of my hard work and growth had paid off. For three years I had
Training Day Subculture
Subculture and Video Reflection Somebody didn t sleep through ethics training
(Ayer and Fuqua, 2001). This statement made by an officer in the movie Training
Day, best exemplifies a major theme of the movie. Training Day should be shown
to rookie officers as an example of how a police subculture can allow officers to
abuse power. The movie is an over exaggeration, but provides depth and detail into
certain situations officers may find themselves in. This paper will look at the
specific concepts of a policesubculture that officers may encounter.
The Police Subculture To begin we need to understand the police subculture that is
involved throughout the events of Training Day. To do this we look at the characters
involved. Jake Hoyt is an officer that is attempting to join the narcotics division of his
police service. Throughout the beginning of the movie he is interested in establishing
a relationship with his new ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pollock defines discretion as the authority to make a decision between two or more
choices (Pollock, p.112, 2015). There were many times throughout the film where
Hoyt would have been able to use his discretion and realize what Harris was doing
was illegal. Hoyt was in a position where he did not have much authority to make the
decisions, but numerous times, he accepts Harris s actions and turns a blind eye.
Duty
Pollock defines duty as required behaviour or action (Pollock, p.112, 2015). Hoyt
began the film stating that if he aced the assignment he would make detective
(Ayer and Fuqua,2001). It could be argued that this line is the sole reason for Hoyt
not taking the proper actions against Harris. He was so determined to do well and
make a good impression that he forgot the duties that are expected of a police officer.
If his judgment had not been clouded by his drive to do well then he may have
spoken against Harris illegal actions.
Gothic Characterism In The Castle Of Otranto By Mary
Shelley
The term gothic originates from the ornate architecture created by the Germanic
tribes called the Goths. This ornate and intricate style of architecture proved to be the
ideal backdrop for both the physical and the psychological settings in a new literary
style. This literary style coined the gothic , began in the mid 1700s with a story titled,
The Castle of Otranto by Horace Walpole. The budding genre takes influence from an
architectural movement propagated by the Goths, but so too does the term refer to
the gothic constitution. This to say that the gothic may also be thought of as a
product of the revolutionary shock besetting 18th and 19th century Europe. These
polysemous definitions for the term gothic can be used to examine how both Ann
Radcliffe and Mary Shelley apply and take inspiration from these interconnected
definitions and influences in their respective works. The genre of literature so called
the gothic developed through a type of artistic and intellectual osmosis. This to say
that, while both authors took influence from the tradition of gothic fiction, they also
provided their own contributions.
It is no coincidence that the gothic villain of the late 18th century was manifested as a
corrupt aristocrat or cleric (Moreland, 2). With the French Revolution came
destruction and political outbursts, and this is reflective in the choices of the gothic
authors regarding their villains (Paulson, 536). Ann Radcliffe, for instance, helped
introduce the brooding

courage and strong women referring to the queen Regina. We can see how the queen

Essay On Nelson Rockefeller
The Rockefeller family is an extremely wealthy American dynasty with German
roots. The family members were heavily involved in the industrial, political, oil
and banking businesses of America that allowed them to amass one of the world s
greatest fortunes. Primarily, the family history starts with the brothers John D
Rockefeller Sr. and William Rockefeller who owned the standard oil company that
controlled nearly all oil flow in the US until 1911 when it was broken into
subsidiaries to end its monopoly. Nonetheless, the family continue to be involved in
the oil industry and profit from it. The brothers are considered to be responsible for
creating the majority of the groups wealth. They were so profitable that John D.

Due to Nelson Rockefeller s extensive knowledge on Latin America and experience
in the region, President Nixon sent him on a diplomatic tour of Latin America. The
tour was aimed to observe the effect of the revolutions occurring across Latin
American countries during the 1960 s and to assess the opinions and conditions
towards the relationship between the US and Latin America and work towards
promoting goodwill. However, Nelson was received by violence everywhere he
travelled in Latin America causing conflicts between the people and the Latin
American states. demonstrations targeted Rockefeller as an agent of an imperialist
United States, and in some cases were accompanied by bombings. In Argentina,
fourteen of seventeen Rockefeller owned supermarkets were bombed in a
coordinated attack . Despite this, Nelson Rockefeller continued his trips and before
he arrived to Venezuela students protests became so violent they led to military
shootings and numerous deaths. The Venezuelan leader Caldera managed to dissuade
Nelson from coming to Venezuela in fear of violent demonstrations. However, the
Venezuelan people viewed the decision as being initiated by the United States and it
spurred more anti American feelings. Therefore, Nelson Rockefeller s travels to Latin
America spurred violence between the people and the leaders of Latin America
creating more instability and fostering anti American
Witch Dbq
High numbers of executions for crimes of witchcraft in Europe primarily took place
over 160 years, from 1500 up through 1660 and finally ending in about the 1680s.
During this period in time, England reached a total of 1,000 executions for crimes of
witchcraft. This is a significantly lower number than the 26,000 deaths in Germany
and the 10,000 deaths in France at this time. The English legal system helped to
significantly lower the number of executions for the crime of witchcraftin England
over the 160 year period known as the witch craze.
Before exploring the reasons that the number of executions of witches was so low in
England, we should first explore the English conceptualization of a witch. During the
witch craze of the 16th to 17th
Moral Relativism
Ethical behavior is different in every culture. One culture may see something as
ethically right where another may see it as wrong. Moral relativism plays a role in
accepting differences between cultures, even if they do not agree. Everyone is
different. Each region of the world has beliefs in how things should be done. Rules
are set to guide them in creating a sense of control over actions. Not every action is
justifiable, but there are ways to find out what is really the reason for a certain culture
to say something is right or wrong. For example, an ancient society might have
considered dyeing one s hair green to be a punishable offense. Most modern societies
would find that strange, if not oppressive. Yet, good cultural perspective might tell us
more. If we were to find out that green hair was a sign of a prostitute, we would
understand that it wasn t the hair color itself, but the prostitution that was truly
considered wrong. (allaboutphilosophy.org/cultural relativism.htm). We need to be
able to look at an... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We believe in individuality and that everyone has the right to make decisions on
how to live. Some may not see that our way of life is ok. If we had a visitor from
another country, like Africa, come to America and observe the marriage of two
same sex people, they may see that as ethically wrong. We cannot tell them it is
right, we can only hope they can understand. Acceptance of different cultural
beliefs is hard for many cultures to achieve. Even in the U.S., we struggle with
ethical relativism amongst our fellow American. There are many religions in
America. Every religion gives a specific belief in how life is supposed to be.
Someone with one religion may see that giving to the poverty stricken area is the
right thing to do, and another person from a different religious background may see
it as morally wrong because the poverty stricken individuals need to work and create
a better life for
OFF, by Mortis Ghost
What truly makes a villain to us? Is it the need to cause mayhem, a long,
resounding evil laugh? Or just someone whose values run in opposition to ours?
Whatever the case may be, we perceive these characters carefully, recognizing them
almost instantly as forces to be reckoned with That is, most of the time. In the next
few paragraphs I aim to explore why what the most frightening of villains terrify us
the most. Mortis Ghost s OFF , a french RPG from 2007, will be our setting for this
phenomenal antagonist. This indie game features a delightful soundtrack, strategic
turn based combat, and an increasingly dark storyline. The adventure begins with
you, the player, being assigned to control a stoic hero known as The Batter . If he

Regardless, you and he proceed through a land called Zone0, entrusted by some

world, and guides you safety through the deserted landscape and to the cusp of the
first inhabited zone, Zone 1. It departs, promising to see you again. As you advance
through Zones 1, 2, and 3, The Batter continues to insist he is the savior of the world,
sent to purify the evils within. The timid and neurotic inhabitants known as Elsen

the recuperation procedure of these casualties requires a great deal. In this way,

Pythagoras Accomplishments
Did you know that Pythagorean Theorem was actually created well before our
generation s time period? Yes, it seems that is pretty basic knowledge, but did you
know it was actually created in B.C. and instead of A.D.? The brilliant mind to thank
for such an achievement is the man who goes by the name Pythagoras. However the
Pythagorean Theorem isn t his only accomplishment, he was so advanced for his
time, that he had many achievements. But to the best way to examine these
accomplishments is to start at the beginning. In around 569 B.C on a small island of
Samos, Pythagoras was born. His mother, named Pythais, was a native to the island
Samos and his father, named Mnesarchus, was a traveling merchant. Due to his father
being a traveling merchant, Pythagoras spent his most of his childhood traveling with
his father, thus causing young Pythagoras to become more intelligent and worldly
compared to other youth at the time. Along the travels he picked up reading and
reciting poems created by Greek Poet, Homer. Though there were two... Show more

Many of the theorems we have today our proven fact, while back in Pythagoras day
math was more critical thinking rather than problem solving. One example of
Pythagoras critical thinking comes in the form of a simple triangle which he called
Tetractys. A tetractys, or also known as tetrad, a triangular figure consisting of ten
points arranged in four rows: one, two, three, and four points in each row, which is
the geometrical representation of the fourth triangular number. This later became the
mystic symbol of the Pythagoreans. Speaking of triangle s Pythagoras most famous
contribution to the world of mathematics, The Pythagorean Theorem was proved
during this time period. Pythagoras did not create the Theorem, the creation is
credited to the Babylonians and Indians, however Pythagoras was the first man to
successfully prove the Theorem. The iconic equation looks like

Kent State University Shooting Essay
The Boston Massacre and the killings that took place at Kent State University
occured 200 year apart from each other, but there is a striking resemblance between
the two events. It is evident that history repeats itself. Both of the events were
brought on by tensions between the powers that be and the people, became so
violent that officials were forced to take charge, and after tragedy occurred, no one
suffered any consequences.
The Boston Massacre of 1770 was fated to happen once Parliament passed the
Townshend Actsof 1767 on the American colonies. These acts placed taxes on
goods such as glass, tea, and paper. When these taxes reached throughout the
colonies, colonists began to boycott British items, and some of them rioted. Things
were getting out of control, so in the following year, Parliament sent soldiers over to
the Americas to suppress it. The presence of British troops only served as another

Kent State ROTC building on fire. No one knows who started the fire, but there
were many protesters around the building cheering. When first responders arrived,

Quote Essay

  • 1. Quote Essay Writing an essay on the topic of a "Quote Essay" can be both challenging and intriguing. The difficulty lies not only in crafting a well-structured and coherent piece but also in selecting an appropriate quote that serves as the focal point of the essay. The task involves more than just incorporating a quote; it requires a deep understanding of the chosen quotation and the ability to seamlessly integrate it into the overall theme of the essay. One of the challenges is interpreting the quote in a way that aligns with the intended message of the essay. Analyzing the nuances and underlying meanings of the quote requires critical thinking and a comprehensive understanding of the context in which it was originally spoken or written. Additionally, the essay must go beyond mere analysis and delve into how the quote relates to broader themes, historical events, or contemporary issues. Crafting a compelling introduction that effectively introduces the chosen quote and sets the tone for the entire essay is another aspect that adds to the difficulty. The essay should not only expound upon the significance of the quote but also provide a clear roadmap for the reader, outlining how the subsequent paragraphs will explore and support the ideas presented. The body of the essay demands a careful balance between presenting a thorough analysis of the quote and incorporating supporting evidence or examples. This requires in-depth research and a keen eye for detail to ensure that the arguments put forth are both substantiated and cohesive. Striking the right balance between analysis and illustration is crucial for maintaining the essay's flow and readability. Furthermore, the conclusion should not merely restate the points made but should offer a synthesis of the key ideas and leave a lasting impression on the reader. Summarizing the significance of the quote in the broader context of the essay and drawing connections to real- world applications or implications requires finesse and a solid grasp of the subject matter. In conclusion, writing a "Quote Essay" demands a combination of analytical skills, research proficiency, and effective communication. It is a task that challenges the writer to explore the depths of a chosen quote, interpret its meanings, and skillfully weave these interpretations into a cohesive and compelling essay. It is an undertaking that requires time, dedication, and a genuine passion for both the art of language and the power of meaningful quotations. • 3. Is Hemisphere Is Specialised For The Perception Of Emotion Using Chimeric Faces to Understand the Lateralisation of Emotion Report by: Tin Kai Yeh Student ID: 4414697 Lab 130 (Demonstrator: Victoria Alogna) 30th April, 2015 Abstract The aim of the present study was to investigate which hemisphere is specialised for the perception of emotion. It was hypothesised that participants will judge chimeric faces with smile presented in the left visual field as happier more often than chimeric faces with the smile presented in the right visual field. Twenty six psychology students were asked to judge chimeric faces with one half being a smiling expression and the other half with a neutral expression. The images were presented in their left and right visual field. Over 28 experimental trials the participants were asked to judge which face they thought looked happier. The percentage of chimeric faces judged as happier for both left and right visual field was recorded. The hypothesis was supported: chimeric faces with smile presented in the left visual field as happier more often than chimeric faces with the smile presented in the right visual field. The human brain is a mystery that has been studied for centuries in attempt to understand how it functions. Scientists first thought that the brain was a structure that functioned a whole. It was in the early 1600 s where the first ideas of localisation of function in the brain started. At this time Rene Descartes discovered a tiny structure called the pineal
  • 4. Miriam Makeba Research Paper Miriam Makeba influenced Texas by singing about civil rights and keeping her stature while being exiled from her country. Life on it s own has its hardships, but imagine facing discrimination from your home country and countries around the world. Makeba faced an innumerable amount of hardships, yet still stayed true to her roots. She stood on her beliefs and never backed down. Biography.jranks.org claims, Makeba faced conflict from the moment she was born. She served a six month term at the age of two and a half weeks (Bigelow and Pendergast). Liptrott writes Makeba s family facing further issues. Her father passed away sooner than expected (theheroinecollective.com). She faced challenges within her home, while also dealing with racial... Makeba said, If I had not left South Africa, I do not think anything would have came out of it, and that is one of the reasons why I left. There was no scope for me there as a black entertainer. In 1958, the South African government passed a law where no blacks could perform in the cities. Anti apartheid songs are not allowed to be sold or played on the radio. My songs have been banned since 1962 (youtube.com). She sang in welcoming countries, while still relaying her message to the people in South Africa. During Makeba s career, there were strict rules concerning racial inequality in Africa (apartheid). Gaylord notes Makeba left the country to pursue her career in other countries, but soon felt regret when her mother passed away and was denied access into South Africa (csmonitor.com). Makeba says, I never knew they were going to stop me from coming back (csmonitor.com). Makeba was exiled from her own country because of her stance with apartheid (southafricaproject.web.unc.edu). Bigelow and Pendergast comment, The South African government did not agree or tolerate her opposing views (biography.jrank.org). Makeba being exiled from her home country definitely caught the attention of others. Many countries gave Makeba citizenship in support. • 5. Essay on Ducati Case Study February 1, 2014 Introduction: Being a motorcycle company that produces high performance, highly successful racing motorcycles, as well as motorcycles for the commercial market, has proven to be a winning strategy for Ducati. This case focuses on Ducati Corse, a subsidiary of Ducati Motor Holding S.p.A. that manages racing teams, bike development, promotions, and sponsorship areas of the company. Ducati Corse is a relatively small organization that encourages cross departmental integration with its internal teams to achieve the best motorcycle design and racing outcomes as possible. Ducati started racing in the new MotoGP Circuit during the 2003 race season. With unexpected positive racing results, Ducati took the data collected ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ducati s success was a combination of Ducati engineers passion for their work, their detailed attention to the design process, and a well defined, developed method called the Ducati Method. The Ducati Method helped lead to modular design via extensive use of CAD and simulation technology to optimize the design before physically developing the components followed by intense testing to validate the design. Question 2: How did Ducati use data? Processing, interpreting, and using real time data is a complex task which the Ducati engineers employed with the help of other departments. They utilized rider feedback from the races, videos of each race, track tests, data on race performance, and functional data acquired by on bike sensors. Ducati used the data from the track to identify problems that could not be detected in simulation. This type of data is excellent for measuring relative performance, evaluating structural stress loads, drivetrain torque, and system temperatures. However, it can be greatly influenced by the driver and environmental conditions. Data of this volume proved difficult to sift through, and additional staffers were hired to tackle it for the 2004 season. Question 3: What is your assessment of their approach? We feel that Ducati s approach was ineffective due to the lack of a structured plan with clear priorities. Ducati Corse tried to solve more problems than they were able, which seemed to result in missed

Building a More Just Society The Role of the Judiciary The Judicial Branch is one of three equal branches of the United States government. Article III of the American Constitution invests federal judiciary power within the Supreme Court. The extent of the power of that has been debated all through U.S. History. This group along with the staffs forms the core of the judiciary bench. Professionals in the judiciary, including prosecutors, defense attorneys, and judges, must execute justice by upholding the law in an ethical manner. Their separate depictions of various courts suggest the metaphor of a pyramid: at increasingly higher levels of the judiciary, the range of operative goals narrows and variation among judges diminishes. At the lowest levels, in this metaphor, interest in the content of legal policy is one of many motivations for judges behavior, motivations whose importance differs from judge to judge. At the highest level, in the Supreme Court, only an interest in the content of legal policy influences the behavior of any justice. (Baum, 1991) The judiciary system in the United States is more sophisticated than judicial systems around the world. The judicial system serves thousands pf people daily; law enforcement

Polio virus is rapid, acid resistant, stable, highly tissue specific and consists of a single stranded, positive RNA. Polio virus is able to reside in the throat or intestinal tract of humans. Poliomyelitis is a highly contagious infectious disease which has three strains, poliovirus 1 (PV1), PV2 and PV3. Receptor mediated endocytosis is thought to take the receptor into the cell. Polio virus is tissue tropic, meaning it replicates only in specific tissue types, generally lymphoid tissue in the pharynx and intestine. After uncoating, polio virus, which is an RNA virus, takes a single RNA molecule in its protective capsid. This RNA can be converted directly to a protein in the cytoplasm. The virus must then replicate its RNA using viral RNA directed RNA polymerase. After replication of its own RNA, the virus must package the new RNA into capsids in order to infect more cells. Transmission After replication in the mouth and intestine, polio virus spreads through the body via the blood. Polio virus is contained in the Peyer s patches of the small intestine. Transmission to the central nervous system and neuronal cell destruction is seen in a small number of infected individuals. Damage Polio virus affects humans by a lytic cycle. PV1 which is usually associated with epidemics causes paralysis and consequently the most deaths. PV2 normally causes meningitis and a less severe paralysis. PV3 is usually associated with sporadic cases of polio virus. The majority of polio cases include only diarrhea symptoms or the individual is completely asymptomatic. Five percent of polio cases show flu like symptoms of fever, malaise, headache, nausea, sore throat, upset stomach, and achy muscles. In one percent of

Increasing climates have been proven; with the warmest temperatures in 30 years being recorded (Houghton, 1994). Suggested cause of this increase is population change, the ever increasing demand for natural resources to sustain economic growth has resulted in exploitation of ecological systems at a rate never recorded before. These huge changes to the planet will have a knock on effect to individual and global ecosystems resulting in varying levels of positive feedback. Evidence such as the rising of sea level by 17cm in the last century or the 150 250km3 loss of Greenland ice per year between 2002 2006 (NASA, 2014) proves that climate change is happening to us currently and the effects are immediate. The Carbon Cycle consists of the vital components for all animal and plant lives. It is primarily a reflection on primary and secondary production (Krebs, 2009). As seen in Figure 2, carbon levels have not been constant throughout history. Figure 3 represents the basic components of the Carbon cycle. The diagram shows that the oceans are the largest sink of carbon, and is at a constant equilibrium of atmospheric CO2 and aqueous CO2. The increase in atmospheric CO2 levels causes ocean acidification by decreasing the pH of the oceans. PH values are said to have dropped by 0.1pH units since pre industrial levels and are expected to drop a further 0.3 units by the end of the 20th century (Scott C Doney, 2007). This chemical change will have knock on affects in many marine ecosystems, which will be discussed later. However, there are positive results of the rapid increase of CO2 in relation to plants a; CO2 enrichment will no longer be a limiting factor of photosynthesis. The True Character of Isabella in Measure for Measure Some critics of Shakespeare s play, Measure for Measure, judge Isabella as a narrow minded but passionate girl afflicted with an irrational terror of sex (Barton, 546), a young, immature woman demonstrating moral absurdity and cruelty (Nicholls, 478), whose actions are scarcely defensible. A classmate of mine asked, Why doesn t Isabella just sleep with Angelo? What s the big deal? These statements reveal that these people have no understanding or sympathy for Isabella s position: socially, morally or physically. Perhaps I take the issue of Isabella s character so seriously because I played the role of Isabella in our college s production of the play. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Yet I found that the script does allow for an Isabella of greater richness than we usually see reflected in print. From within, I measured her differently. We often hear that Isabella is a rigid absolutist, particularly in her attitude toward sexual activity outside marriage. But beginning at the beginning, I found that Isabella is a humorous, tolerant wit. Now I imagine that those adjectives surprise you, but let me move through her first scene, taking into account the choices our director Ronnie Larson, the other actors and I made. In Act I scene iv, I was blocked to enter quietly, head down, and then suddenly see the Duke (disguised in his monk s habit) who was still center stage after his soliloquy. I paused, while our Duke awkwardly and hesitantly blessed me with the sign of the cross. I smiled and shook my head slightly, amused at his evident bashfulness, thinking Who is this strange brother? This moment gave me a sense of calm certainty I knew what I was doing in this convent and in a habit, even if he didn t. I passed downstage of him as he exited, unfurled a large white cloth on the stage as a symbolic altar, and kneeled on it, beginning an audible rosary, Hail, Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Our Lucio, entering from the audience, saw me praying and knelt down beside me for his line, Hail, virgin, if you be.

Once sound meets the building, like a floor, a ceiling or a wall the sound reflects back to the area, a part of it is absorbed by the fabric and the left over is transmitted to the succeeding area. The sound absorbed, mirrored and transmitted depends on each of the thickness/thinness of the wall as well as the material on the wall. (Figure 1) Katherine Shonfield makes a case for this idea in her book Walls have Feelings within which she highlights that in Rosemary s Baby, Rosemary is lying awake in her bed, the noise from her neighbour is keeping her awake and once she sleeps the sound becomes her nightmare. This might be because of the poor sense of designing, the wall that is supposed to defend her has failed to guard her. Similarly, in Repulsion, the protagonist, Carol will hear a tolling bell from outside which calls nuns in a neighbour convent to prayer. Due to poor planning of the building occupants may have heavy health problems. So, based on this information on this subject Hobbes s view is very different from other philosophers since he believes in the greatest evil instead of believing in the greatest good. According to Hobbes s view and the points he made, it shows a different perspective aspect of seeing human s nature like how he describes as solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short and I think his point holds a reasonable ground. Lastly, I will explain why his good and evil is a part of this world. To begin with, Hobbes s account on good and evil is very different than any other philosophers because he believes in the greatest evil when they do not think the greatest evil exist. Hobbes does not believe in the greatest good as the other philosophers because he does not consider that there is a god or anything that will give people some happiness and pleasure. • 33. Franklin Roosevelt And The New Deal Over the course of the semester I have retained an abundance of information in Professor Tiraterra s history class. He has informed us on plenty of information and the topic I took most interest in was The New Deal. From my knowledge the underlying issue was the Great Depression. Franklin Roosevelt won the presidency election in 1932 due to his idea of The New Deal. The New Deal was his solution to help the awful crisis happening in America. Franklin Roosevelt and the government were in search of a variety of means to restore the economy and the hope of the American people. I will discuss the events that lead to the New Deal and the legacy of The New Deal along with some of its successes and failures. I will also talk about the role Franklin Roosevelt took part in shaping the federal governments new powers. In addition, I will consider the pros and cons The New Deal had on the American people s lives and the perspective it portrays still to this day. Now that I summed up the topics I will discuss, I will begin to talk about the events that led up to the New Deal. I learned in class that the economic boom of the 19 20s came to an end when the stock market crashed on October 1929 leading America into the great Depression. Although it did not cause the depression it did play a major role in sculpting the events in which occurred soon after the market crashed. Consumer spending ceased causing thousands of businesses to fail. Millions of people lost their jobs as companies

  • 35. Notes On Bonds And Bonds Chapter One Bond Basics What are bonds? Bonds are investment tools in form of a debt. When the government, corporate bodies, or municipalities want to borrow from the public, they issue bonds. By investing in bonds, you are simply lending your money to the issuer of the bond (government or a corporation) at an interest for a given period of time. Usually bonds have a face value, which is the money being borrowed, the coupon rate which is the interest rate to be paid to the investors and the maturity date, which is the date you get paid the money you invested. Bonds are issued for varying period of time, may be three months, one year or even five years. When an organization issues a bond, it makes a commitment to you (investor) that it will make regular (quarterly, biannually, or yearly) payment of the interest at a specified rate on the total amount it borrowed from you (face amount) until the maturity date of the bond when it will repay the principal. This simply means that when you invest in bonds you start earning interest regularly until the maturity date of the bond when the issuer of the bond pays back the principle (money borrowed). Because of the facts that you get paid interest regularly and the principle upon the maturity of the bond, this investment instrument is often termed as a fixed income security. Bonds alongside other investment vehicles such as term deposits and cash are often classified together as income assets because they provide a reliable and

He was always there when she felt scared or alone, and Natalie knew she could trust him to be just as intelligent as she could ever be. The white drapes were simple and undecorated, and hid the interior of the house from her view. The smoke coming from a small chimney was carried off into the wind. The key easily slipped in, and the girl and her companion walked into the house. The door opened with a loud creak that echoed in the house. Natalie locked the door behind them, pushing hard against the howling wind. Merlin kicked up a cloud of dust as he gracefully leaped to the large bookshelf on the wall, and Natalie hobbled over to the worn fabric armchair by the fireplace. The flame crackled peacefully, filling the room with a warm glow. Natalie felt relaxed, in the heat of the fire, watching Merlin kicking a book off of the shelf. Suddenly, she had an idea. Grass fed beef also has a reputation for being tough and lacking tenderness, but is said to be more juicier and true beefy flavor. Some studies show there isn t a real clear cut, consistent taste differences between grass fed and corn fed beef. Corn fed beef has more fat than grass fed beef so the cook, chef would have more room for error with some corn fed beef rather than some grass fed because that fat adds flavor that you can lose if you overcook leaner grass fed beef. • 46. Gothic Characterism In The Castle Of Otranto By Mary Shelley The term gothic originates from the ornate architecture created by the Germanic tribes called the Goths. This ornate and intricate style of architecture proved to be the ideal backdrop for both the physical and the psychological settings in a new literary style. This literary style coined the gothic , began in the mid 1700s with a story titled, The Castle of Otranto by Horace Walpole. The budding genre takes influence from an architectural movement propagated by the Goths, but so too does the term refer to the gothic constitution. This to say that the gothic may also be thought of as a product of the revolutionary shock besetting 18th and 19th century Europe. These polysemous definitions for the term gothic can be used to examine how both Ann Radcliffe and Mary Shelley apply and take inspiration from these interconnected definitions and influences in their respective works. The genre of literature so called the gothic developed through a type of artistic and intellectual osmosis. This to say that, while both authors took influence from the tradition of gothic fiction, they also provided their own contributions. It is no coincidence that the gothic villain of the late 18th century was manifested as a corrupt aristocrat or cleric (Moreland, 2). With the French Revolution came destruction and political outbursts, and this is reflective in the choices of the gothic authors regarding their villains (Paulson, 536). One example of Pythagoras critical thinking comes in the form of a simple triangle which he called Tetractys.
