Ada Solution Manual
This file contains the exercises, hints, and solutions for Chapter 1 of the book Introduction to the
Design and Analysis of Algorithms, 2nd edition, by A. Levitin. The problems that might be
challenging for at least some students are marked by ; those that might be difficult for a majority of
students are marked by .
Exercises 1.1
1. Do some research on al Khorezmi (also al Khwarizmi), the man from whose name the word
algorithm is derived. In particular, you should learn what the origins of the words algorithm and
algebra have in common. 2. Given that the official purpose of the U.S. patent system is the promotion
of the useful arts, do you think algorithms are patentable in this country? Should they be? 3. a. Write

6. Prove that if d divides both m and n (i.e., m = sd and n = td for some positive integers s and t), then
it also divides both n and r = m mod n and vice versa. Use the formula m = qn + r (0 ≤ r n) and the fact
that if d divides two integers u and v, it also divides u + v and u − v. (Why?) 7. Perform one iteration
of the algorithm for two arbitrarily chosen integers m n. 9. a. Use the equality gcd(m, n) = gcd(m − n,
n) for m ≥ n 0. b. The key is to figure out the total number of distinct numbers that can be written on
the board, starting with an initial pair m, n where m n ≥ 1. You should exploit a connection of this
question to the question of part (a). Considering small examples, especially those with n = 1 and n = 2,
should help, too. 10. Of course, for some coefficients, the equation will have no solutions. 11. Tracing
the algorithm by hand for, say, n = 10 and studying its outcome should help answering both questions.

Solutions to Exercises 1.1
1. Al Khwarizmi (9th century C.E.) was a great Arabic scholar, most famous for his algebra textbook.
In fact, the word algebra is derived from the Arabic title of this book while the word algorithm is
derived from a translation of Al Khwarizmi s last name (see, e.g., [KnuI], pp. 1 2, [Knu96], pp. 88 92,
114). 2. This legal issue has yet to be settled. The current legal state of affairs distinguishes

Models of Metadiscourse Essay examples
Metadiscourse has traditionally been defined in general as text about text . This too broad, and rather
imprecise, definition entails a degree of reflexivity with which a text is enabled to refer to or to talk
about itself or its parts. The concept of metadiscourse may have borrowed its reflexivity property to
language in general, which can also function reflexively comment on the language or verbal system
itself. In this reflexive form of language, called metalanguage , the metalinguistic function of
language, which is also central to the metadiscourse model used in this study, is most evident.
The metalinguistic function is one of the six functions of language proposed by Jakobson (1998), and
the other five are expressive, directive, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These functions are apparent in a definition of metadiscourse by Williams (1989: 27 28), a researcher
into metadiscourse who works under this approach: the language that we use when we describe what
we are doing as we think and write about the content of our primary ideas, or what we want our
readers to be doing as they read. It is writing about reading and writing. Crismore et al (1993: 39) put
more consideration towards the improved readability of text as the main function of metadiscourse:
for how readers should read, react to, and evaluate what they have written about the subject matter .
Among researchers into metadiscourse who work under the broad approach is Vande Kopple (1985,
1988), whose classification of metadiscourse into seven kinds has been used and developed in
research by other researchers as well. A brief summary of his taxonomy, adapted from Adel s
summary with her examples (2006: 168 170) will be presented here. The first group is Text
Connectives , which highlights text organization and relations between one part of a text with another
and connects pieces of information in the text. It comprises four subgroups: Logical connectors (on
the other hand), Announcements (as we shall see, in later chapters), Reminders (the argument about
progress describe above), and Sequencers (First, ... Second, ...). Code Glosses (that is, contradiction)
give signals and hint at rephrasing and interpretations of the text; it anticipates responses towards the

representation of parents not understanding why kid act out or how to handle it. Active listening is

The Impact of the Rise of Citizen Journalists for...
Due to the development of science and technology, the world is experiencing an information
revolution. With the arrival of information age, the traditional information producing strata changes
and new media rise gradually. Citizen journalists can be regarded as a representative of new media. As
the concept is relatively new, it is not yet completely defined. Generally speaking, citizen journalists
refer to members of the public who are not trained or employed as professional journalists for a living
to produce and circulate photos, videos, news and views (Stabe, 2006). In recent years, the rise of
citizen journalists has an impact on mainstream media. Mainstream media, which sometimes are
called elite media or agenda setting media, can be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reason why mainstream media are mainstream is that they have big resources and set the
framework of information producing (Chomsky, 1997). All second class and third class media filter
news in this framework every day. They not only have a great influence on society, but also have very
strong economic strength. Meanwhile, they are regarded as the mouthpiece of parties, governments
and the masses. For a long time, mainstream media occupy social leading right and guide the major
public opinions of the society, have very high authority and credibility. Nevertheless, since most of
mainstream media are connected to or owned by the wealthy, as well as related to parties or
governments, the information that they offer can be affected by powerful people who only want
certain things to reach the public (Rayner, Wall and Kruger, 2004). Therefore, in the past, people who
have different ideas or thoughts would be cut out. Because of the arrival of information age, people
suffer from information overload. The role of audience in information producing is changing. They are
no longer directed by the will of mainstream media and they pay more attention to their own interests.
Many of them act as citizen journalists, voluntarily look for news sources, purposefully comment on
news events or provide accounts that differ from mainstream news accounts. The Internet has become

The Characters Of Aisha And Khadija
The Prophet s pietistic norms are archetypes in which Muslims, as a piety of knowledge, are intrigued
to comprehend more about the messenger s social gestures. There have been various inquiries
concerning the prophet s marriage, the traits of Muhammad as a husband and the normative of his
sexual life. Although the prophet had consummated his marriage with eleven of his thirteen wives,
Khadija and Aisha were the Prophet s most preference and beloved ones. No doubts, both Aisha and
Khadija manifested the entitlement The Mother of the Muslim Believers; though, they both embedded
different characters and witnessed the Prophet sexually in varying views. Therefore, the community
had portrait Aisha and Khadija s embodiments relatively to their suppositions of gender and sexuality,
since that Muhammad married both of his wives during discrete periods. In this Essay, I intend to
answer the exam s inquiry, thoroughly, through three factions: At first, providing both characters of
Aisha and Khadija. Secondly, representing clear differences in the way, they were told and the views
they described gender and sexuality. Finally, Juxtaposing the discrepancies between the two stories
and what they present.
Both Characters of Aisha and Khadija According to Ibn Ishaq chronicle of Khadija s social status prior
to her marriage to Muhammad, she was a wealthy respected women merchant in which many tribal
elites were burgeoned to propose marriage to her, though. Throughout what Khadija

Reflexive Research Paper
Reflexive research is more demanding than conventional qualitative research and even more so from
quantitative research. The idea of reflection is not only to reduce the naivety of the research in
relationship to the constructed nature of empirical material and themes such as power, politics or
ideology, language, authority gender, and so on, or to show how familiar the researcher is with the
literature; the main point is to lift a project, to generate more interesting innovative and well judged
interpretations and qualified results (ibid. p. 315). Finally, the writers warn to recognize but not to be
overwhelmed by the complexities of reflexive research (ibid. p. 285 6).
To sum up, their book, Reflexive Methodology as the name suggests, it is a promotion for more
reflective / reflexive approach to research in the social sciences. The authors conclude this chapter
claiming that good qualitative research and other research should build upon a general awareness and
application of the above mentioned reflective methods. In order to do so, the writers suggest reflexive
methodology, built around a multi layered, flexible structure of interpretation and reflection in which
the systematic interplay of reflective ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Prisoner Of War Exhibit Analysis
As a 22 year veteran of the uniformed services walking through the Carroll Reese museum, I was
instantly and obviously drawn toward the Prisoner of War (POW) exhibit. However, even those not
associated with the military would be drawn in by the impact of the images and arrangement of the
exhibit. It is arranged so that a museum patron has to walk through the POW exhibit to progress
further into the museum, which highlights the centerpiece of the exhibit the missing man table. This
simple table summarizes the whole exhibit, solidifies it, and leaves an ache in your soul just by
viewing it. This is due largely to its placement within the exhibit. Location is everything, as they say,
and is true in this case as well. The missing man table

Victim Or Heroine Research Paper
Victim or Heroine? The relationship between opposing genders and species within literature is
interesting. Women are known for being the weaker link, the brutally murdered, the intentesly stalked.
One of the first to die and if they are kept around its usually because they fit the other half of a
romantic relationship with the heroine. However, while monsters often prey upon women, in modern
horror stories sometimes the women take on the roles of both victim and heroine. In this instense it is
usually because they are apart of a bigger play of events. The turbulent relationship between women
and monsters has been characterized by conflict. However, understanding what role the female
character is playing can be difficult. Women are shown to be weaker or even defenseless against their
preditor. Usually throughout the film, the woman learns to defend herself because she has to. Women

like Laurie does not give up the fight. Final example, the well known vampire franchise Twilight. This
series is known for its female heroine Bella Swan. Even her name portrays her as dainty and feminine.
She is subject to a family; and later on a community of what essentially are monsters. Even deciding
to become one, Bella has to be the most tolerent female role. She falls in love with a vampire named
Edward Cullen controverally because Edward does not really give her much of a choice, and she

The Tell Tale Heart Response
The Tell Tale Heart by Edgar Allan Poe was published in 1850. Poe calmly tells his story about his
murder of the old man. A man that has never done him wrong. The character feels as if it s not himself
personally, it s his eye. His are like a vulture s, pale blue. The main points in The Tell Tale Heart is
easy to point out and describe. He points out he could not do his job with his eye closed, so he goes on
night after night looking in his room.
The Tell Tale Heart is about the main character murdering the old man. He gives great detail about
how he visits his room every night at midnight, and watches him through the door. The style in the
writing itself is very well thought through. It s very wordy for a below average reader. The story

Health Care Is A Public Health Issue
Health care is a public health issue that continues to trouble different countries yearly. There is always
a debate on whether health care is a human right issue or if it is just a luxury. Every year, it is always
heard on the news about how a country is trying to improve their health care system, but there are
always roadblocks that hinder the bill from passing. This paper will discuss about the best and worst
parts of other countries health care systems, previous problems that the U.S health care had, the best
and worst parts of the Affordable Care Act, and discussing a component of another countries health
care that is being integrated with the U.S health care. All of the countries mentioned in Sick around
the world had major benefits and downfalls associated with their healthcare. The United Kingdom s
best benefit was that the citizens pay $0 for any health care service, but since the health care is free,
the citizens have a long waiting list for elective care. The best part about Japan s health care is that it is
cheap and everyone is three times healthier, but since the costs are so cheap, half of the doctors are in
financial deficits. Then, Germany s best asset of their health care is that not only does their health care
cover regular medical costs, but also it covers holistic care. But, since the prices are lower, the doctors
do not make as much money. Taiwan has a great benefit called a Smart Card that has every patient s

Columbine Quote Analysis
Why They Did It While reading Columbine, the only thing readers can ask themselves is, Why did
they do this? The only thing a reader can do is make his/her assumption based off of the facts given
throughout the book as it is not clearly stated. By reading the book, it is very easy to assume that both
Eric and Dylan were depressed and did not feel like they were treated fairly. Eric was the more violent
of the two, although both had significant dealings with the shootings taken place. Their illnesses
brought them together, making them feel as if they clicked or understood each other more than anyone
else. Dylan is very easily identified as the most depressed of the two. In chapter thirty five, Dylan
stated just how depressed he was. I get more depressed with each day, he complained. Why did friends
keep deserting him? They did not, actually, but Dylan perceived it that way. He fretted about Eric
dumping him, too. Wanna die, he repeated. (page 198) Dylan felt as if he was all alone and death
equaled freedom to him now. Dylan was not worried about anyone but himself and how he felt. His
depression had consumed his thoughts and made him think of the unimaginable. This very well could

His psychopathic ways showed through the tragedy of the shooting at Columbine. Eric is easily

their day planners, and Eric s are riddled with plans, logs, and results of experiments; Dylan shows
virtually no effort. Eric acquired the guns, the ammo, and apparently the material for the bombs, and
did the planning and the construction. (page 305) Eric was taken as a psychopath for his violent ways
and how he wrote in his journal. He detailed the murders out vividly and talked aggressively

Film Analysis Of The Movie Inception
The film Inception captured the imagination of many spectators as one of the best science fiction and
thriller movies to be produced that year. It was produced and directed by Christopher Nolan who also
directed The Dark Knight, Interstellar, and Dunkirk. Inception is based on the basic inspiration that a
single idea in an individual s mind can be either the most valuable asset or the most dangerous
weapon.
Inception is a science fiction thriller movie. This genre deals with situations and technology that
would be classified as scientific, but does not exist in real life. Inception connects with this because of
the technology they used to enter the dreams. Although it was never explained, the machine seems to
pump somnacin into the body. Somnacin is a drug utilized to initiate dream sharing and lucid
dreaming. The movie is also classified as a thriller because of the exciting plot. It has intense chase
scenes, gun fire, explosions, and fight scenes all within the dream state. The expectation for the movie
based on the trailer would be constant action. It seems that the main character is away from his family
and is trying to get home, but the only way he can is to do one last job. In the trailer the statement your
mind is the scene of the crime is shown, this indicates that most of the content will be in the dreams of
the subject.
Inception is about as many as four levels of dreams within dreams, and dreams that eclipse reality.
There seem to be two themes discussed in

Salem Witch Trials Vs Holocaust Essay
What are some comparisons between the Salem Witch Trials and the Holocaust? The holocaust and
the Salem witch trials are similar in very many ways because they both involved a large number of
people being murdered and they both had unreal reasons to kill innocent people and children. The
Salem Witch Trials was a series of hearings and prosecutions accused of witchcraft in colonial
Massachusetts on February 1692 until may 1693 (Salem Witch Trials). It began with some teenagers
dancing in the woods, claiming to be possessed in the salem village(Salem Witch Trials). The teens
started to tell fake lies and accuse several innocent women which caused a special court to be
convened in Salem (Salem Witch Trials). The girls were randomly screaming in the middle of court,

6 million jews were killed after world war 2 because the germans thought it was the jews fault that
they had lost the war(The Holocaust). By 1945, the germans had set up concentration camps and had

mass hysteria. When the remaining jews were finally found they found it very hard to return home,
they were starving to death, and they were very skinny to where they had to be rushed to the

The Holocaust was a way more real and intensified event compared to the Salem Witch Trial(The

Discipline In Classroom Management And Classroom Management
Disciplining children is important to create a safe and fun learning environment. Discipline requires
knowledge, skill, sensitivity, and self confidence; like any art, it is something that one will acquire
through training and experience; it becomes easier with practice. Many people confuse discipline with
classroom management; discipline is one dimension of classroom management and classroom
management is a general term. Discipline can also have a positive influence on both the individual and
classroom environment. Utilizing disciplinary actions can be an opportunity to reflect and learn about
consequences, instill collective values, and encourage behavior that is acceptable for the classroom.
Recognition of the diversity of values within communities can increase understanding and tolerance of
different disciplinary techniques. Promoting positive correction of questionable behavior within the
classroom dynamic, as opposed to out of class punishments like detention, suspension, or expulsion,
can encourage learning and discourage future miss behavior. Learning to own one s bad behavior can
also contribute to positive growth in social emotional learning. Throughout the history of education,
the most common means of maintaining discipline in schools was corporal punishment. While a child
was in school, a teacher was expected to act as parents with many forms of parental discipline or
rewards open to them. This often meant that students were commonly chastised with the strap

Hybrid Electric Vehicles ( Electric Vehicle )
Imagine a world in which the air we breathe is clean, the skies are blue, automobiles are sleek and
fast, and don t burn fossil fuels. That world could be coming. It s a world filled with clean running
electric vehicles. An EV (electric vehicle) is a vehicle that gets some or all of its power for propulsion
from the electric grid. These cars present one of the best alternatives to gas based vehicles as they are
environmentally friendly, and circumvent the distribution of harmful elements such as carbon
emissions into the atmosphere. Some of the manufactures for the EVs and their models include the
Nissan LEAF, the Mitsubishi iMiEV, and plug in hybrid electric vehicles (part gasoline, part electric
battery), such as the Chevrolet Volt or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1908 the electric car suffered a big blow. That year, Henry Ford introduced the mass produced
Model T. It made gasoline powered cars widely available and affordable. By 1912, the gasoline car
cost only $650, while an electric car sold for $1,750. By the 1920s, the U.S. had much better roads
connecting cities, which Americans were eager to explore. When crude oil was discovered in Texas,
gas became cheap and was easily available to rural Americans, while few had electricity. By 1935,
electric vehicles had all but disappeared (Energy.gov, 2014). Commercially available EVs hit the
market again in 2011 (Larson, P., Viáfara, J., Parsons, R., Elias, A., 2014). Environmental concerns
about air quality, growing concerns about global warming, and finite fossil fuel supplies prompted a
new emphasis on the production of more fuel efficient vehicles (Nayum, Klöckner., Mehmetoglu,
2016). These concerns led to the development of improvements in automobile materials, system
technologies, and the design of improved rechargeable battery systems that are smaller, lighter weight,
and have a longer lasting charge. Advances such as these have rapidly accelerated the design of better,
more reliable EVs (Coffman, Bernstein, Wee, 2016). Unfortunately, sales of these vehicles are not
progressing as quickly as had been hoped, some prominent reasons being that EV vehicles are still too
expensive, consumers continue to have range anxiety (the fear of

Anastasias Movie Symbolism
Anastasia directed by Don Bluth and Gary Goldman, screenplay by Susan Gauthier and Bruce
Graham has an interesting type of plot, lots of character development, and symbolism as well. It s
about a princess whose family was torn apart by Rasputin and the hatred he imbedded within the
people living in St. Petersburg. Years pass and Anastasia is leaving the orphanage now known as
Anya, she meets Dmitry and Vladimir who persuade her that she is the lost princess and brings her to
her grandmother through troubles with Rasputin s spirits he previously sold his soul for out of hatred
for the Czar s family. Anastasia finds out Dmitry is a con man and is mad at him for trying to deceive
the older woman but finds out he didn t take the reward and goes to find him and they go on a boat to
spend the rest of their lives together.
First, the type of movie Anastasia represents is historical fiction. Anastasia was an actual princess who
was thought to be alive but was tragically murdered with her family to end the dynasty. Her parents
and some siblings were killed instantly. Anastasia had passed out and when she came to she screamed

Monkey Journey To The West Summary
The traditional Chinese story called Monkey, Journey to the West, is one which reflects well the
religious traditions of the country. The story is certainly not associated with one religion, but rather the
Chinese culture. There are many references to Confucian, Buddhist, and Daoist beliefs, which is what
the mass of people in China identify their religious beliefs to be. This paper is going to explore how
all three religious traditions are presented in the book, and what does that say about Chinese culture.
As a person who is interested in learning about foreign culture, this topic sparked my interest, since it
will explore how the Chinese culture is developed in result of the 3 main religions.
Firstly the book introduces the Monkey character ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The order deities are arranged is rather Confucian, where all of them have a position and there is
burocraucy. However there are also many deities who have achieved immortality and hold a postion in
Heaven. This is a belief that is associated with the traditions of Daoism. Also Buddha forms part of
Heaven, and he is the one who imprisioned Monkey for 500 years. However the Jade Emperor is the
one who rules Heaven, which is part of Daoist tradition. This is an example of how the three religions
blend together to create the Chinese culture, which is very strong. It also explains why there are daoist
deities in Buddhist temples, and why Confucian intellectuals and Daoist priests are officiated by
Buddhist monks during funerals. As it is evident the three religions are not opposed to each other,
rather they help each other out in Chinese culture. Chinese rarely identify themselves as only
Buddhist, Confucian, or Daoist, most practice all three in some form or another. Monkey is a
representation of the blend of all three religious traditions in Chinese culture. Initially I was a bit
confused because of my European religious background where one religion does not cooperate with
another, towards the end of the book and after research a bit about Chinese culture the 3 religion based
culture made a lot of sense. This is the main reason why I chose to write on this topic, since this

Furthermore, if the individual receiving chemotherapy was to get an infection due to acupuncture they

of social influence involving change in belief behavior in order to fit in with a group. An example

There are many types of crimes. Arson, blackmail, embezzlement, fraud, and many more. We have
talked about two types of crimes in our discussion questions. White collar crime is not an act of
violence. It is mostly committed by businesses and the government. Street crimes is an act of violence,
which can also harm anyone in its way. Crimes has been an impact on not only people but on
communities and businesses as well. When people are moving they want to be in an area where they
are safe and free from any act of crimes. They like to know that they are not in harm way. Business

Improving The Manufacturing And Service Delivery Processes...
Abstract
Information technology utilized to improve the manufacturing and service delivery processes for
companies can deliver individually different products to different individual customers cost efficiently
is called mass customization. When product components are put together in a modularized way, the
mass customization can reduce the company s all in costs. The mass customizing companies are
driven by observing individual customer request and by comparing them to what other customers have
requested. As the demand for customizing products rise, companies are offering build to order services
to enable customers to configure products to their own needs.
Utilizing mass customization provides a better matching product to its customers liking as its chosen
customization level increases. However, if a company chooses not to use mass customization, they
may result in selling a standard product. Price customization can lead to a broader adoption of mass
customization, and the company can take advantage of their customized products. Cosmetic
customization presents a standard product differently to different customers. Transparent
customization provides each customer with a customized product without telling him or her about the
actual product itself.
Good services cannot come from processes alone. The important process for winning customer loyalty
is through customization. Mass customization is a process for customizing cost efficiently. Companies
can reduce its unit

The Importance of Preventative Care for Health Essay example
As a result of the importance placed on preventive services there is no shortage of studies examining
preventive service utilization among various groups. Many studies have examined the factors affecting
preventive service use with the most important including age5,6, race/ethnicity7 10, marital status11,
and income. 6 8,11 13 The literature has documented disparities by race/ethnicity and socioeconomic
status in use of preventive services and shown that minorities are generally not as likely as Whites to
receive services such as blood pressure checks, cervical cancer screening, and blood cholesterol
screening. 14 Other studies have looked at the effects of education 9,15,16, usual source of care 15,

Not surprisingly, low income families (less than $25,000/year household income) had the highest level
of uninsurance at 25.4%. However, middle income families were also affected by a high rate of
uninsurance (21.5%).24 Lack of health insurance can lead to a variety of issues from access barriers to
needed services to delaying routine and preventive care. The United States Preventive Services Task
Force produces and maintains a set of comprehensive preventions recommendations that aim to guide
clinical and preventive care in the United States. 3 The USPSTF guidelines are employed by
numerous federal agencies and private organizations, and are widely considered as the top choice for
clinical preventive services guidance. 25 The purpose of this study is to analyze the use of USPSTF
recommended preventive services among uninsured adults, and how utilization varies across race and
ethnicity. As such, the analysis was limited to non Hispanic Whites, non Hispanic African Americans,
and Hispanic individuals over the age of 18 who did not have any health insurance coverage for the
entire previous year. Following the Andersen Andersen model of health care utilization, we control for
socio demographic factors that may act as enabling resources, predisposing characteristics, or need
factors. The Andersen Andersen model postulates that use of health services is dependent on an

Speech About Birthdays
Do you ever think to yourself that some of you birthdays are more valuable than others? Personally, I
happen to thinks some of my birthdays aren t as fun as when I was six years old. Currently I am
eighteen years old and as the years have gone I ve realized how different things have been. I must say
I don t remember all of my birthdays from when I was a kid, although I do remember a few of them.
When I was five I had a birthday party and my mom hired a clown. I guess the lady was very friendly
she handed out prizes and played with the children. It was like having a sister for the first time.
Although I have to say I m not a big fan of clowns, this woman made my fifth birthday party an
outstanding time! Her name was Betty, and clown Betty had paint with her, so she painted all the
children s faces. I believe she had painted a pink butterfly on my face and my father had painted his
face as Spider Man. I also recall playing many games, it just happened to be musical chairs that I won
on. For my prize I had to pick out of a huge surprise box, I was very happy with my prize I had won
myself a Snow White game for my Gameboy. Some of the girls got a bit jealous and would say that
the clown would only let me win because it was my birthday. In my opinion I think they were just
upset that I had won and they didn t. I also remember turning six, my mom and dad had taken me to
Disney for the very first time. I was extremely excited to meet Cinderella and all the other characters

Arguments For Animal Testing
Testing on animals has been a thing for so many years now. In fact, many scientists believe it should
be done before human testing. But with it being around for so long, it has become a subject of
controversy. People around the world share their views and opinions about whether it s really
necessary, and some even question if the process is even ethical. While it is sad that animals have to
come to terrible fates, the process of animal testing is absolutely essential to test the safety of products.
Besides the obvious benefit, which is that animal testing saves lives, results are generated quicker with
animal testing, so diseases can be cured faster. Sometimes the illnesses cured can affect animals too,
so humans aren t the only ones benefited. Animals are also benefited by the guidelines put in place by
the Animal Welfare Act, which makes sure that animals are treated fairly during the testing process.
All in all animal testing is without a doubt crucial to test products that save both human and animal
lives.
Before putting a product out in the world scientist have to first make sure it is safe for people to use.
To do this they have to test it on a living being. As said before most scientists prefer to do animal
testing first. They are able to do this because animals and humans are very similar we have the same
organ systems that do the same things in roughly the same way. In the article, Animal Testing Saves
by Nicholas Clark, Clark quoted, animals are genetically

Intracystic Papillary Carcinoma
The term intracystic papillary ductal carcinoma in situ , has recently changed and is now more
appropriatelyreferred to as intracystic papillary carcinoma constituting only 0.5% to 1% of all breast
cancers. Herein, we discuss an unusual case of intracystic insitu papillary carcinoma of breast in a
postmenopausal woman, the diagnosis of which was made on histopathology. So careful
histopathological evaluation is the mainstay to arrive at the correct diagnosis to avoid untoward
complications related to under diagnosis and /over diagnosis.
Key words: Insitu papillary carcinoma; Histopathology
CASE REPORT:
A 71 year old post menopausal female presented with a well circumscribed swelling in the left lower
outer quadrant of left breast measuring 3 cm in diameter. The lump was freely mobile and not fixed to

Benign and malignant papillary lesions of the breast can be very difficult to distinguish on
cytology[2,3]. It is said to occur more frequently among whites and postmenopausal women[2].
Papillary lesions of breast have been evaluated in a wide spectrum ranging from intraductal papilloma
to insitu papillary carcinoma of breast and invasive papillary carcinoma[3,4].
In view of the desmoplasia often surrounding these lesions, the distinction between in situ and
invasive papillary carcinoma can be very difficult to make. Therefore, IPC had been divided it into
three subgroups which seem to correlate with the prognosis: IPC alone, IPC plus DCIS and IPC with
invasion[5]. In this manner, the term papillary DCIS would refer to a more diffuse process that
involves multiple ducts as opposed to a localized lesion[5].
However, variations exist on ultrasounds from intraductal lesions associated with ductal dilatation and
a predominantly solid pattern with the intraductal or intracystic mass totally filling the

Joshua The Odyssey
Joshua was the successor of Moses chosen by God, and God definitely knew what he was doing with
Joshua! While Joshua is not the most famous part of the Bible, most people know he fought the Battle
of Jericho. Thanks to his devotion and obedience towards God, he won the battle and claimed the
Promised Land. Joshua did great things for the glory of God, so he should always be remembered as
the hero he was. Joshua was born in Egypt prior to Exodus, in the year 1355 BC. Joshua was very
similar to Moses throughout his life. When he was born, he was hidden to hide from Pharaoh s law
that the newborn Hebrew men must be put to death. He also tried to bring the Israelites to their
rightful home, much like Moses. Later on in his life, Moses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Joshua used his leadership as well as God s instructions to win the Battle of Jericho. During the last
attempt to claim the Promised Land, while they were led by Moses, the Israelites did not obey God,
and as a result, they lost the battle, and they had to wait another long forty years to try again in
claiming the Promised Land. This time however, Joshua was determined to follow God s directions
perfectly, despite the Israelites not agreeing with him. He was well rewarded for his obedience
towards God, because due to everyone s obedience, they won the Battle of Jericho ( Joshua Summary
)! After the victory, the Promised Land was officially the Israelites land for the taking. Joshua later led
several other victories for the Israelites before he died in the year 1245 BC. Thanks to him, the
Israelites now could peacefully live in the Holy Land. If he had not obeyed God, the Promise Land
would still be in the hands of the wrong people for another long forty years. His obedience is later
referenced in the book of 1 Samuel. To obey is better than sacrifice. ( 15:22 ) Joshua clearly knew this,
which lead to all of his

Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church, Under The Direction Of...
In 1905, Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church, under the direction of Rev. L. L. Downing, erected their
persistently famous Stonewall Jackson memorial window. Each Sunday, Fifth Avenue s pastor still
preaches from the pulpit with this picturesque image in the background, denoting the phrase, Let us
Cross the River and Rest in the Shade of the Trees. General Jackson was, of course, well known for
his devout Presbyterian faith. What may be most surprising to those unfamiliar with Fifth Avenue
Presbyterian Church, however, is that it is a historically black congregation. As a local historian has
explained:
It was to Gen. Jackson that Downing imputed his conversion to Christ. In the presence of a large

Flynt s work shows special interest in one man, Walter Lingle, but he attempted to show issues such as
child labor as having been of great concern to more than just Lingle, a Presbyterian leader that arrived
at Union Seminary in Richmond by 1911. Shortly before Lingle s entrance into the Old Dominion,
Flynt states that Presbyterians had clearly opted for a mixture of spiritual and educational salvation.
Other writers of Presbyterian history have not been so interested in such themes, however. Don K.
Clements, speaking about much broader chronological implications, has been especially critical of
those who adopted a more progressive stance to Presbyterianism. He stated:
The Southern Church saw herself as holding the Old School position, which gave rise to the Southern
Presbyterian distinctives. With the passing of the first generation of leaders, the Southern Church was
unable to replace them with men of equal soundness and stature. The result is that the Southern
Church lasted as a sound denomination for seventy or eighty years, and then was taken over by the
liberals in the church. This was done very largely through the capturing of the educational agencies of
the church, the seminaries, the colleges, the publications and literature.
Still, others, including Darryl G. hart, have suggested that historians focus

powerful, eccentric, yet very matter of fact about business. Donald J. Trump, more commonly known
as The Donald, brought the business world into millions of homes with his hit reality show The
Apprentice. I thought I was the biggest star before The Apprentice, but now I m bigger. In a strange
way, he s down to earth, the kind of guy who buys a $350,000 Maybach by Mercedes but insists on
driving it himself (Naughton). Trump s brash business skills, keen instincts, and flare for taking risks

hard times, he has stayed optimistic about the restructuring that will leave him without a majority
share. He recognizes that one of the only ways to make the casinos profitable is to forfeit his 56%
share in favor of a much smaller 25% share ( Should Donald ). Other charismatic characteristics that
Trump possesses include making an impressive appearance, being candid, and displaying an in your

The problems that might be challenging for at least some students are marked by ; those that might be difficult for a majority of students are marked by . Exercises 1.1 1. Do some research on al Khorezmi (also al Khwarizmi), the man from whose name the word algorithm is derived. In particular, you should learn what the origins of the words algorithm and algebra have in common. 2. Given that the official purpose of the U.S. patent system is the promotion of the useful arts, do you think algorithms are patentable in this country? Should they be? 3. a. Write down driving ... Prove that if d divides both m and n (i.e., m = sd and n = td for some positive integers s and t), then it also divides both n and r = m mod n and vice versa. Use the formula m = qn + r (0 ≤ r n) and the fact that if d divides two integers u and v, it also divides u + v and u − v. (Why?) 7. Perform one iteration of the algorithm for two arbitrarily chosen integers m n. 9. a. Use the equality gcd(m, n) = gcd(m − n, n) for m ≥ n 0. b. The key is to figure out the total number of distinct numbers that can be written on the board, starting with an initial pair m, n where m n ≥ 1. You should exploit a connection of this question to the question of part (a). Considering small examples, especially those with n = 1 and n = 2, should help, too. 10. Of course, for some coefficients, the equation will have no solutions. 11. Tracing the algorithm by hand for, say, n = 10 and studying its outcome should help answering both questions. 3 Solutions to Exercises 1.1 1. Al Khwarizmi (9th century C.E.) was a great Arabic scholar, most famous for his algebra textbook. In fact, the word algebra is derived from the Arabic title of this book while the word algorithm is derived from a translation of Al Khwarizmi s last name (see, e.g., [KnuI], pp. 1 2, [Knu96], pp. 88 92, 114). 2. • 3. Models of Metadiscourse Essay examples Metadiscourse has traditionally been defined in general as text about text . This too broad, and rather imprecise, definition entails a degree of reflexivity with which a text is enabled to refer to or to talk about itself or its parts. The concept of metadiscourse may have borrowed its reflexivity property to language in general, which can also function reflexively comment on the language or verbal system itself. In this reflexive form of language, called metalanguage , the metalinguistic function of language, which is also central to the metadiscourse model used in this study, is most evident. The metalinguistic function is one of the six functions of language proposed by Jakobson (1998), and the other five are expressive, directive, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These functions are apparent in a definition of metadiscourse by Williams (1989: 27 28), a researcher into metadiscourse who works under this approach: the language that we use when we describe what we are doing as we think and write about the content of our primary ideas, or what we want our readers to be doing as they read. It is writing about reading and writing. Crismore et al (1993: 39) put more consideration towards the improved readability of text as the main function of metadiscourse: for how readers should read, react to, and evaluate what they have written about the subject matter . Among researchers into metadiscourse who work under the broad approach is Vande Kopple (1985, 1988), whose classification of metadiscourse into seven kinds has been used and developed in research by other researchers as well. A brief summary of his taxonomy, adapted from Adel s summary with her examples (2006: 168 170) will be presented here. The first group is Text Connectives , which highlights text organization and relations between one part of a text with another and connects pieces of information in the text. It comprises four subgroups: Logical connectors (on the other hand), Announcements (as we shall see, in later chapters), Reminders (the argument about progress describe above), and Sequencers (First, ... • 5. The Impact of the Rise of Citizen Journalists for... Due to the development of science and technology, the world is experiencing an information revolution. With the arrival of information age, the traditional information producing strata changes and new media rise gradually. Citizen journalists can be regarded as a representative of new media. As the concept is relatively new, it is not yet completely defined. Generally speaking, citizen journalists refer to members of the public who are not trained or employed as professional journalists for a living to produce and circulate photos, videos, news and views (Stabe, 2006). In recent years, the rise of citizen journalists has an impact on mainstream media. Mainstream media, which sometimes are called elite media or agenda setting media, can be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The reason why mainstream media are mainstream is that they have big resources and set the framework of information producing (Chomsky, 1997). All second class and third class media filter news in this framework every day. They not only have a great influence on society, but also have very strong economic strength. Meanwhile, they are regarded as the mouthpiece of parties, governments and the masses. For a long time, mainstream media occupy social leading right and guide the major public opinions of the society, have very high authority and credibility. Nevertheless, since most of mainstream media are connected to or owned by the wealthy, as well as related to parties or governments, the information that they offer can be affected by powerful people who only want certain things to reach the public (Rayner, Wall and Kruger, 2004). Therefore, in the past, people who have different ideas or thoughts would be cut out. Because of the arrival of information age, people suffer from information overload. The role of audience in information producing is changing. They are no longer directed by the will of mainstream media and they pay more attention to their own interests. Many of them act as citizen journalists, voluntarily look for news sources, purposefully comment on news events or provide accounts that differ from mainstream news accounts. The Characters Of Aisha And Khadija The Prophet s pietistic norms are archetypes in which Muslims, as a piety of knowledge, are intrigued to comprehend more about the messenger s social gestures. There have been various inquiries concerning the prophet s marriage, the traits of Muhammad as a husband and the normative of his sexual life. Although the prophet had consummated his marriage with eleven of his thirteen wives, Khadija and Aisha were the Prophet s most preference and beloved ones. No doubts, both Aisha and Khadija manifested the entitlement The Mother of the Muslim Believers; though, they both embedded different characters and witnessed the Prophet sexually in varying views. Therefore, the community had portrait Aisha and Khadija s embodiments relatively to their suppositions of gender and sexuality, since that Muhammad married both of his wives during discrete periods. • 7. Reflexive Research Paper Reflexive research is more demanding than conventional qualitative research and even more so from quantitative research. The idea of reflection is not only to reduce the naivety of the research in relationship to the constructed nature of empirical material and themes such as power, politics or ideology, language, authority gender, and so on, or to show how familiar the researcher is with the literature; the main point is to lift a project, to generate more interesting innovative and well judged interpretations and qualified results (ibid. p. 315). Finally, the writers warn to recognize but not to be overwhelmed by the complexities of reflexive research (ibid. p. 285 6). To sum up, their book, Reflexive Methodology as the name suggests, it is a promotion for more reflective / reflexive approach to research in the social sciences. The authors conclude this chapter claiming that good qualitative research and other research should build upon a general awareness and application of the above mentioned reflective methods. In order to do so, the writers suggest reflexive methodology, built around a multi layered, flexible structure of interpretation and reflection in which the systematic interplay of reflective ... It is arranged so that a museum patron has to walk through the POW exhibit to progress further into the museum, which highlights the centerpiece of the exhibit the missing man table. This simple table summarizes the whole exhibit, solidifies it, and leaves an ache in your soul just by viewing it. This is due largely to its placement within the exhibit. There is always a debate on whether health care is a human right issue or if it is just a luxury. Every year, it is always heard on the news about how a country is trying to improve their health care system, but there are always roadblocks that hinder the bill from passing. This paper will discuss about the best and worst parts of other countries health care systems, previous problems that the U.S health care had, the best and worst parts of the Affordable Care Act, and discussing a component of another countries health care that is being integrated with the U.S health care. All of the countries mentioned in Sick around the world had major benefits and downfalls associated with their healthcare. The United Kingdom s best benefit was that the citizens pay $0 for any health care service, but since the health care is free, the citizens have a long waiting list for elective care. The best part about Japan s health care is that it is cheap and everyone is three times healthier, but since the costs are so cheap, half of the doctors are in financial deficits. Then, Germany s best asset of their health care is that not only does their health care cover regular medical costs, but also it covers holistic care. The only thing a reader can do is make his/her assumption based off of the facts given throughout the book as it is not clearly stated. By reading the book, it is very easy to assume that both Eric and Dylan were depressed and did not feel like they were treated fairly. Eric was the more violent of the two, although both had significant dealings with the shootings taken place. Their illnesses brought them together, making them feel as if they clicked or understood each other more than anyone else. Dylan is very easily identified as the most depressed of the two. In chapter thirty five, Dylan stated just how depressed he was. I get more depressed with each day, he complained. Why did friends keep deserting him? They did not, actually, but Dylan perceived it that way. He fretted about Eric dumping him, too. Wanna die, he repeated. (page 198) Dylan felt as if he was all alone and death equaled freedom to him now. Dylan was not worried about anyone but himself and how he felt. • 15. Film Analysis Of The Movie Inception The film Inception captured the imagination of many spectators as one of the best science fiction and thriller movies to be produced that year. It was produced and directed by Christopher Nolan who also directed The Dark Knight, Interstellar, and Dunkirk. Inception is based on the basic inspiration that a single idea in an individual s mind can be either the most valuable asset or the most dangerous weapon. Inception is a science fiction thriller movie. This genre deals with situations and technology that would be classified as scientific, but does not exist in real life. Inception connects with this because of the technology they used to enter the dreams. Although it was never explained, the machine seems to pump somnacin into the body. Somnacin is a drug utilized to initiate dream sharing and lucid dreaming. The movie is also classified as a thriller because of the exciting plot. It has intense chase scenes, gun fire, explosions, and fight scenes all within the dream state. The expectation for the movie based on the trailer would be constant action. It seems that the main character is away from his family and is trying to get home, but the only way he can is to do one last job. In the trailer the statement your mind is the scene of the crime is shown, this indicates that most of the content will be in the dreams of the subject. The holocaust and the Salem witch trials are similar in very many ways because they both involved a large number of people being murdered and they both had unreal reasons to kill innocent people and children. The Salem Witch Trials was a series of hearings and prosecutions accused of witchcraft in colonial Massachusetts on February 1692 until may 1693 (Salem Witch Trials). It began with some teenagers dancing in the woods, claiming to be possessed in the salem village(Salem Witch Trials). • 17. Discipline In Classroom Management And Classroom Management Disciplining children is important to create a safe and fun learning environment. Discipline requires knowledge, skill, sensitivity, and self confidence; like any art, it is something that one will acquire through training and experience; it becomes easier with practice. Many people confuse discipline with classroom management; discipline is one dimension of classroom management and classroom management is a general term. Discipline can also have a positive influence on both the individual and classroom environment. Utilizing disciplinary actions can be an opportunity to reflect and learn about consequences, instill collective values, and encourage behavior that is acceptable for the classroom. Recognition of the diversity of values within communities can increase understanding and tolerance of different disciplinary techniques. Promoting positive correction of questionable behavior within the classroom dynamic, as opposed to out of class punishments like detention, suspension, or expulsion, can encourage learning and discourage future miss behavior. Learning to own one s bad behavior can also contribute to positive growth in social emotional learning. Throughout the history of education, the most common means of maintaining discipline in schools was corporal punishment. While a child was in school, a teacher was expected to act as parents with many forms of parental discipline or rewards open to them. That world could be coming. It s a world filled with clean running electric vehicles. An EV (electric vehicle) is a vehicle that gets some or all of its power for propulsion from the electric grid. These cars present one of the best alternatives to gas based vehicles as they are environmentally friendly, and circumvent the distribution of harmful elements such as carbon emissions into the atmosphere. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 1908 the electric car suffered a big blow. That year, Henry Ford introduced the mass produced Model T. It made gasoline powered cars widely available and affordable. By 1912, the gasoline car cost only $650, while an electric car sold for $1,750. By the 1920s, the U.S. had much better roads connecting cities, which Americans were eager to explore. When crude oil was discovered in Texas, gas became cheap and was easily available to rural Americans, while few had electricity. By 1935, electric vehicles had all but disappeared (Energy.gov, 2014). Commercially available EVs hit the market again in 2011 (Larson, P., Viáfara, J., Parsons, R., Elias, A., 2014). Environmental concerns about air quality, growing concerns about global warming, and finite fossil fuel supplies prompted a new emphasis on the production of more fuel efficient vehicles (Nayum, Klöckner., Mehmetoglu, 2016). These concerns led to the development of improvements in automobile materials, system technologies, and the design of improved rechargeable battery systems that are smaller, lighter weight, and have a longer lasting charge. Advances such as these have rapidly accelerated the design of better, more reliable EVs (Coffman, Bernstein, Wee, 2016).
