The Evolution of the Microscope Essay
Microscope Research Paper The evolution of the microscope. The first form of the microscope was a
crystal that was found by someone from a long time ago. The crystal was thick in the middle, but
thinner around the egdes. The crystal made things look bigger when someone looked through it. The
pearson also noticed that if the sun shone through the crystal, certain things could get burnt or set on
fire. They were known as magnifiers . Magnifiers were mentioned in the writings of the two Roman
philosophers, Seneca and Pliny. Apperantly, maginfiers weren t really used much until the invention of
the spectacles. The oldest actual microscope was actually just a tube with a plate at one end and a
glass lens at the other end. They magnified ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the 19th century, a man named Carles A. Spencer had made major improvements to the microscope.
He made the microscope have a magnification of 1250 diameters with ordinary light, and a
magnification of up to 5000 diameters with blue light. Successes of the Microscope. The microscope
has succeded at multiple things. It succeded at allowing scientists to study small, tiny things that
cannot be seen, or barely can be seen, to the human eye. It has allowed scientists to make
extraordinary discovieries. Failures of the Microscope. While the microscope has many successes,
there are also failures that it has had. The microscope has a limited magnification, unfortanetly not
allowing some small things to be seen. Feilds/Proffesions that use the Microscope. There are many
jobs that use a microscope. One of those jobs is Microbiologists. Microbioligists use microscopes to
identify microorganisms such as bacteria. The health care industry uses microscopes to identify
pathogens in tissue samples. Another Profession that uses the microscope are Chemists and
Biochemists. Microscopes are used in these professions to observe materials at molecular level or
below. Microscopes help chemists and biochemists do research on how substances react. It also helps
others develop new materials or products. Zoologists and wildlife biologists also use microscopes.

Mark Cuban and Sec
Mark Cuban was offered that the Web search engine named Mamma.com was going to offer $16.6
million worth of new shares to private institution and other qualified investors. The information about
PIPEs is material since it s not yet publicly announced and that info could affect the shareholders
behaviors. 1. Why didn t the SEC accuse Mark Cuban of traditional illegal insider trading, considering
he was the largest, individual shareholder of Mamma.com?
Even though the information about PIPEs was material inside information, Mark Cuban was not
accused as traditional insider information. To qualify as traditional insider trading, there must involve
true insiders buying or selling the company s stock based on material inside information. ... Show

SEC alleged that Mark Cuban violated misappropriate insider trading. To be qualified as
misappropriate insider trading, an individual wrongfully obtains (misappropriates) inside information
and trades on it for her or his personal benefit. In this case, Cuban actually traded his shares based on
the material inside information he was told and saved him $750,000 in losses. Wrongful
misappropriation means violation of a fiduciary duty.
The Court found that Cuban had not misappropriated any material non public information because he
had not violated a legal duty to refrain from trading. Cuban had not promised that he would not trade
after learning about a PIPE offering. The judge also said that the SEC failed to show that Cuban
undertook a legal duty to not use the information he learned from those two phone calls with
Mamma.com representatives. Mark Cuban did not have any fiduciary duty to not act upon the
information. The Mamma.com CEO asked Cuban to keep their conversation confidential. However,
that didn t prove that Cuban had a legal duty to Mamma.com that would prohibit him from selling his
shares based on what he was told. He just promised to not disclose the information to the others, not
promised to not act upon what someone told him.
Besides, there was no evidence that he actually agreed that day to keep anything confidential. He
never agreed on the phone that he would

The North American Musical Film
The North American Musical Film The musical film in the United States is largely associated with
Broadway theatre. Broadway is an area in New York City where the biggest theatres are located,
accommodating at least 500 people. Smaller theatres are said to be located Off Broadway and even
smaller theatres are called Off Off Broadway. Some notable musical films such as Chicago (2002),
My Fair Lady (1964) and West Side Story (1961) were adapted from musical plays and trace their
origins to Broadway where they first started their production. Some Off Broadway productions also
enjoyed a surge of popularity that warranted their expansion to film such as Rent (2005) and Fame
(1980). Some musical films were adapted from West End productions which is the British counterpart
of Broadway in London. Examples of such films are The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975), Oliver!
(1968), and Mamma Mia! (2008).
But not all musical films were adapted from the stage. When the musical genre enjoyed its peak of
popularity, Hollywood was churning out original musical compositions. It was hard to resist adapting
iconic compositions like Singin in the Rain (1952), Meet Me in St. Louis (1944) and 42nd Street
(1933) for the stage. Given all these variations and just the sheer number of films originating in the
United States, it is safe to say that North America has a very rich history of musical films.
The musical film burst into the scene at a time when the United States was undergoing a revolution of

Essay Of Eating Customs
Eating customs traditions in Great Britain
The usual meals in Great Britain are breakfast, lunch, tea and dinner; or in simplier homes, breakfast,
dinner, tea and supper. Breakfast is generally a bigger meal than you can have it on the Continent,
though some English people like a continental breakfast of rolls and butter and coffee. But the usual
breakfast is porridge or Corn Flakes with milk or cream and sugar, becon and eggs, marmalade with
butter toast, and tea or coffee. For a change you can have a boiled egg, cold ham, or perhaps fish.
Lunch is usually served between twelve and one o clock. The businessman in London usually finds it

It is clearly that beverage sales are not only an important part of the sales mix of hospitality
establishments but also more profitable than food sales. Coffee is one of the most popular beverages
of the world. It is made from berries grown in tropical climates and shipped to the country green that
is unroasted. The berries produced vary in composition and the treatment after picking. For this
reason, Mocha, Java, Arabica and South American coffees are quite distinct from each other. There are
three main methods of preparing coffee boiling, percolating and drip method. The coffee should not
stand long before serving. Tea is made from the leaves of tea bush which is indigenous to the Orient.
Black tea is made from leaves which are fermented before drying. Green tea is not fermented; the
leaves are steamed and dried. There are two main ways of serving tea: English tea is served in cups
and with milk or cream; Russian tea is served in glasses with a slice of lemon. Cocoa and chocolate.
As beverages made from them are generally made with milk, they are much more nutritious than the
other beverages. Cocoa and chocolate are made from beans or seeds of trees which grow in tropical

Emotional Analysis Of Dr. Oz
Dr. Mehmet Oz, commonly known as Dr. Oz, hosts a successful American TV show that focuses on
health, a topic that western culture has obsessed over. Recently, an increasing number of Americans
have sought to lead a better lifestyle by eating better; however, false advertisement has made everyone
believe that they must be willing to spend a small fortune to eat healthily. In the writing Give (Frozen)
Peas A Chance And Carrots Too , Oz argues that one does not need to eat like the 1% to maintain a
nutritious diet (1). His purpose is to inform his audience how and why they should shop smarter, and
he undoubtedly does an excellent job at persuading them to take his advice to heart. He does so by
forming a friendly bond with his audience, taking his argument to a personal level, and using facts to
compare normal, store bought foods to their organic counterparts. The only distinguishable weakness
in Oz s writing is that he fails to support his facts with evidence which leaves his arguments prone to
becoming hollow. Dr. Oz is able to effectively get through to his audience by connecting with them on
different levels of trust. For example, he formulates a friendly connection by keeping a casual,
sociable tone, and at the same time, he uses ethos by establishing that he is a doctor to create a sense
professionalism. Oz writes, as a doctor, I know that patients don t always have the time, energy or
budget to shop for artisanal ingredients and whip them into a meal (1). He s trying to sound
understanding of his audience s situation to make him more trustworthy. With these strategies, Oz is
able to build his trust on both a doctor patient and a friendly platform which gets his audience to listen
to him with an open mind. Oz successfully uses pathos to keep his audience engaged in his writing.
He s able to anger his audience at something they might have never been even slightly flustered over
by bringing up that which most people hold nearest to their heart: family. When describing the
purpose of his essay, Oz says, I consider it a public health service to the consumer who has to feed a
family of five or the person who wants to make all the right choices and instead is alienated and
dejected because the

Clubs and Non Profit Organizations
Introduction What s the deal? Clubs are very common establishments in our society. Firstly, before I
further explain all the required information, we have to understand that a club operates differently as
compared to a normal business/enterprise. The most imperative difference between a business and this
sports club is that a business is established with the aim of generating profit which the owner is
entitled to because the owner is the person who provides the start up capital. The low down A sports
club on the other hand, it is established to provide facilities to the members and no profit is made. If,
through fund raising efforts the club makes, the income generated exceeds the expenses incurred, then

when the member joins the club for the first time. If entrance fees are capitalised, they will be taken to
the ACCUMULATED FUND account and if not, they will entered into the INCOME AND
EXPENDITURE account. iii. Sale on Refreshments Often, a club or society may have a specific
corner where refreshments and snacks are sold for the convenience of its members. This is not the
main activity of the club, yet, is a small trading activity that generates funds for the club. Western
Cape Soccer Club prepares a Refreshment Trading Account to account for the profit or loss arising
from such an activity. The money that the club receives from this activity will serve as a portion of the
income. When the physical refreshments are bought, this is recorded in the REFRESHMENTS
ACCOUNT which is an asset account. If there are refreshments left over at the end of the financial
period, these have to be recorded in the account called REFRESHMENTS ON HAND and these will
be used in the next financial period. Refreshments account will increase on the Debit side and if the
refreshments are sold, the account decreases on the Credit side (as it is an asset account). The profit
made will be accounted for with a contra account PROFIT ON SALE OF REFRESHMENTS. I have
illustrated how Western Cape Soccer Club will enter the Refreshments Ledger Account: DR

The Evolution Of Roman Gods
The Evolution of Roman Gods
Throughout this semester, we have looked at many different Roman mythological plays, poems, and
stories, and in each of these examples, a reference is made to a Roman god, or we observe their
influence on a particular piece of literature. The Roman gods are often influential on the participants
in our readings, or they are one of the main characters. We have caught a glimpse into their feelings,
actions, and the important roles each have played. The Romans believed that immortal gods ruled both
the heavens and earth. These same gods blessed Rome, as a result of Rome recognizing them. As time
passes in Roman literature and mythology, we have seen the performance of these gods transition as a
reflection of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lucretius On the Nature of Things, is a poem which is seen as an explanation about nature and
humankind within the life we know. Lucretius introduces us to a new thought process, also known as
an epicurean philosophy. He suggests that supernatural causes should not be simply excused away
because we are unable to see them. He further explains that we should not be concerned with how the
Gods, Fate, or Fortune might try to control our lives, and we can be confident that natural answers do
in fact exist. This thought process shows a detour from the traditional Roman worship of mythological
gods, to an acceptance of new ideas or theories. Next, we will look at Virgil s Aeneid Book 1,
Invocation to the Muse , as this story highlights some of the god s finest work yet. It shows us a
glimpse into the character and heart that some of the gods have. This story begins with a man named
Aeneas, the son of a mortal man and of the goddess Venus. With his mother s help, he escapes Troy
during the war between the Achilles and the Greeks, and begins a difficult journey to Italy. Aeneas is
met with resistance from Juno, the queen of the gods, as she says to herself, Am I to abandon my
purpose, conquered, unable to turn the Teucrian king away from Italy! (Bkl:12 49) Exhausting the
efforts of the gods to end his journey, Juno calls upon Aeolus the wind god, to toss the ship Aeneas is
traveling on, but

The Satanic Verses Analysis
In The Satanic Verses, numerous symbols illustrate how human nature is the source of the evil.
Furthermore, the symbolic significance that pertains to the main character also shows how all
individuals have both good and bad qualities. A repeating motif in the book is the reference to the play
Othello . Skapearses famous play follows the life of the Moor Othello after is marriage to Desdemona.
Iago, a loyal friend of Othello, was furious that the Moor overlooked him for a promotion, sparking
his lust for revenge. Iago devised a plan to persuade the King that his had been having an affair with
his trusted friend Cassio. Iago s actions resulted in the Moor killing Desdemona. After learning the
truth, Othello committed suicide. The references to the play foreshadow the ending of the novel but
also gives further explanations to the actions of Gibreel. The first mentions of Othello only occurred to
criticize Shakespeare because he couldn t spell (256). The primary reference occurs when Gibreel
wondered about the creation of evil, why it grows, how it takes unilateral possession of a many sided
human soul. Or, let s say: the enigma of Iago (439). Gibreel continues by denying his allegations
saying he s, no match for the moor (439). Gibreel turns out to me more naive than the moor because
the events that occur in Othello are mirrored in the novel. Gibreel assumes the role of Othello, Saladin
Iago, and Gibreel s love interest Allie Cone, Desdemona. Gibreel inherited the

Pseudo-Profound Bullshit
Pennycook, Cheyne, Barr, Koehler and Fugelsang s paper On the Reception and Detection of Pseudo
Profound Bullshit (2015) was about multiple studies done on the reception and detection of bullshit.
Pennycook et al. examined the mechanisms behind bullshit reception and created valid measures of
bullshit receptivity. The goal of the study was to see if there were consistent and significant
differences in the ability to detect pseudo profound bullshit. Pennycook et al. (2015) state bullshit is
something that implies, but does not contain adequate meaning or truth (p.549). They suggest that
there is a spectrum of bullshit, and that pseudo profound bullshit is an extreme point (p.550) on this
spectrum; it is described as vague and ambiguous. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Deepak Chopra s tweets were used as bullshit statements throughout the studies, and it was found that
knowledge of who he is and his tweets are not a confounding factor. Participants were asked to state
the profundity of statements provided to them, and would then answer tests on verbal intelligence,
heuristics, religious beliefs, cognitive reflections, ontological beliefs, paranormal beliefs, numeracy,
and analytical cognition (tests vary between studies). In studies 1 and 2, Pennycook et al. (2015) found
that participants often failed to detect bullshit statements and found correlations with related variables,
but were unable to tell what the associations were driven by. In study 3 they found that response bias
plays a role in receptivity of bullshit and may explain its association with analytic thinking. Study 4
results support the idea that the difference between profundity ratings for pseudo profound bullshit
and motivational quotes can be used to measure bullshit sensitivity (p.552 558). When the results of
all four studies are looked at as a whole, Pennycook et al. (2015) prove that when vague, meaningless
statements are rated as significant, it is can be considered a psychological phenomenon that is related
to variables of theoretical interest (p.559). They suggest that individuals that are more receptive to
bullshit are less reflective,

The Relationship Between Opioid And Dopamine System
The opioid and dopamine systems represent the neurochemical connection between pleasure and pain.
Opioids are important for pleasurable experience . If we observe a hedonic spectrum, we sould see,
that opioids shift it in positive direction : while sweat tastes seem sweater , bitter tastes and pain seem
less aversive. Blocking of opioid mediated signalling results in decreased pleasantness of rewards.
Recent studies have shown, that there is a dissotiation between the way how µ opioid and κ opioid

Cats in Ancient Egypt
When one imagines Ancient Egypt, the images of sand, mummies, and pyramids usually come to
mind. Modern times portray cats as a lovable, furry household animal. Did the thought of the two
intertwining ever occur? By examining the goddess Bast, tombs where cat mummies reside, and the
process of mummifying cats, one can better understand the true significance of the gentle creature in
the days of the Ancient Egyptian. Ancient Egyptians worshipped gods and goddesses frequently. They
seemed to posses one for any concept or thing imaginable. People think of Bast as one of the most
popular goddesses of her time and generally remember her as a cat goddess. She wore the head of a

The Egyptians viewed statuettes as symbols of religion with great importance and history. Tombs of
Egyptians and cat cemeteries along the Nile River held many cat mummies. Thebes housed many
important cat tombs. In mountains to the west of the Nile River, the Theban tombs resided. Thebes
had 4 main burial cites that heavily depicted cats. The Bible referred to Thebes as the City of Amun,
which showed that the city majorly impacted the people. Over the course of history, the first cat name
to ever appear occurred in an 11th dynasty tomb. At the feet of a statue of the King of Hana, a title of
Babylonia, overbearingly sat a cat with the name of Bouhaki. The name means something similar to
divine healer of the home. The 18th dynasty emerged as one of the first dynasties to show the tomb
walls of the nobles to depict scenes from everyday life. Pharaohs tomb walls tend to focus more on
religious scenes. As a result, historians understand more about the day to day activities of Ancient
Egyptians through the nobles. Because of the numerous representations of felines on the tomb walls,
one can infer they played an essential role in an Egyptian s life. One specific tomb wall painting
proposes that cats hunted with humans, much like hound dogs, and humans kept them as pets. The
loving function they assumed could possibly attribute to how popular the Egyptians found Bast.

Hip Hop Dichotomy Essay
Tracing the Rap/Hip Hop Dichotomy in Popular and Underground Music Rap music has experienced
a radical increase in popularity in the last five years. In the year 2000, rap became the second best
selling genre in music, capturing 12.9 percent of the year s $14.3 billion in total record sales ( Rap/Hip
Hop Sc 1). Though rap is no stranger to criticism, that criticism has increased in both quantity and
vociferousness at about the same rate as the number of rap albums climbing the charts. And the
growing evidence that, apparently, in order to achieve commercial success, each rap album must be
more negative and offensive than the last does not help to address these criticisms. Unfortunately, the

The genre s performers and audience were predominantly black in its early phases, though there was a
significant Latino minority (Smitherman Sc 1), and it originated as the response of these marginalized
groups to the commercial music of the period. Afrika Bambaataa, one of hip hop s founders and leader
of the Zulu Nation (a hip hop clique), once said, The Bronx wasn t into radio music no more....Hip
hop was against the disco that was being played on the radio (Stern 412). The hip hop community also
developed responses to other aspects of disco culture: Athletic gear in place of leisure suits and
breakdancing in place of disco dancing. Graffiti art also became intertwined with hip hop early on, and
the music became a celebration of the three art forms that comprise hip hop culture graffiti, break
dancing, and the music itself (Smitherman Sc 1, Costello 22). The mid 1980 s saw the rise to marginal
mainstream popularity of rap groups like Run DMC and the Beastie Boys, who drew criticism for
their relaxed treatment of sex, violence and, in the case of the Beastie Boys, drugs. Indeed they had, if
not lost sight of the music s original aims completely, at least added these seemingly incongruous
elements to it. Then, in 1989, hip hop blew up in the mainstream with the introduction of

Edgar Allan Poe Madness
No great mind has ever existed without a touch of madness this quote is said to be from Aristotle. The
mind is one of the most complex parts of our bodies and even today, 1,694 years after Aristotle s
quote, we are still trying to figure it out.
One of the most famous author s known for writing about madness is Edgar Allan Poe. Well known
for his short stories that depicts horror, madness, and mystery. Mr. Poe has a unique writing that draws
the reader into the dark world of his creation. Mr. Poe s writings were often influenced by his life. He
had never known his father and his mother died when he was three; he was then taken in by the Allan
s who were successful tobacco farmers. As a child he often wrote down his poetic musings on the
backs of Mr. Allan s business papers. Once grown Edgar went into the military, shortly after he
became court martialed, which led to Edgar becoming a full time writer. Having never known his
parents, and often being misunderstood by Mr. Allan, Edgar s writing s were often morbidly
fascinating works that reflected his inner turmoil. Two of his well known short stories are The Tell

Cost Allocation Decisions Are Important
Cost allocation decisions are important. There are several ways to support allocation method decisions
by documenting the activity that caused the costs to be incurred, identifying the benefits received as a
result of incurring the cost, Justifying that the cost is reasonable or fair with the other party in a
contract, and showing that the cost object has the ability to bear the cost. Some of the different
allocation methods are joint costs, sunk costs, and opportunity costs. For example, a company might
allocate or assign the cost of an expensive computer system to the three main areas of the company
that use the system. A company with only one electric meter might allocate the electricity bill to
several departments in the company.
Managers are faced with making pricing decisions every day. They are responsible for coming up with
how much to charge for a product or service. This amount depends on a multitude of factors such as
competition, cost, advertising, and sales promotion. The best price for a product or service is the one
that maximizes the difference between total revenue and total costs. However, in reality, the price
charged is usually some form of cost plus, which is later adjusted for market conditions and
competition. Some of the different pricing decision methods are cost plus pricing, target costing, and
activity based pricing.

Cost allocation is when common costs are assigned to multiple cost objects. Pricing decisions is set

Amazon Mechanical Turk And Idea Storm
Introduction
Crowdsourcing is a new tool that has gradually modified and replaced some ineffective original ways.
Based on the research and development on crowdsourcing, more and more new applications appear.
This paper singled out two distinctive crowdsourcing applications from numbers of emerging
applications, idea generation and Microtasking. Two examples, Amazon Mechanical Turk and Idea
Storm are selected in order to understand the role of these two applications in real life. Moreover,
comparison of these two cases are conducted, this allows readers have more comprehensive
understanding of crowdsourcing and different roles in different applications.

By completing or participating these tasks, individuals could get jobs, financial rewards, knowledge or
experience.(2012)This definition will be further confirmed in following discussion on application
examples.
As mentioned in many literature, crowdsourcing can be used in many approaches, such as idea
generation. Creation, development and idea exchanges are very abstracted; idea generation includes
the construction of ideas, innovative ideas, development process and implementation the idea into
reality. There are two ways of Idea generation through crowdsourcing, idea competition and ideation
with collective intelligence (Moketer Hossain). Idea competition is company asks many people to
contribute new ideas for the company through crowdsourcing, company will choose the best one and
reward to the person. Ideation with collective intelligence refers to ideation with continuous
interactions between firms and crowds. Like Poetz and Schreier (2012) said, idea come from crowds
sometimes far beyond the company can think. Also as Surowiecki (2005) mentioned, the collective
efforts from a number of innovative individuals often better than rely on some experts.
Microtasking is a process that split a large task into many small tasks and publishes on the Internet.
Microtasking is defined as the system that users can choose and complete small tasks with or without
monetary rewards (Kittur, 2008). The birth of microtasking allows any person make

Wearable Wearability Research Paper
Although physiological signals, such as an increase in temperature and blood pressure, are not
traditionally considered an input channel within computer science, computers are gradually moving
beyond the desktop and reaching closer contact with our bodies. An affective wearable a wearable
computer equipped with physiological sensors and pattern recognition is designed to perceive and
respond to the wearer s affective state. Affective states are determined by certain patterns; one pattern
would be a change in nervous system activity, such as an increase in heart rate. While most wearables
today are designed as bands around our wrists, these miniature flexible electrodes can be attached to
jewelry or sewn into our clothes. Indeed, people are already in physical contact with many things that
could be augmented with sensors (Picard).

Isolation In Frankenstein
Throughout the course of the novel, Shelley isolated Frankenstein countless times to develop his
character. Isolation is the process to be or remain alone or apart from others. Due to seclusion,
Frankenstein not only became socially isolated, but also quite lonely. The first moment we see
Frankenstein being isolated is when he is engrossed in reading the past alchemists books, and
wondering about the universe and the human mind; this small remoteness begins before he travels to
Ingolstadt for university. This seclusion does not depress him, neither does it make him socially inept,
it simply a start push to the journey. The second time Shelley detaches Frankenstein from society is

The Levels Of The Somerset Levels Flooded
During the Autumn/Winter of 2013/14, an unusually high frequency of depressions moved across the
Somerset Levels, causing both fluvial and pluvial flooding on a prodigious scale. The two main rivers
which flow through the Levels (River Tone/Parrett), burst their banks, spilling into the already heavily
saturated flood plain. An emergency was declared and subsequently allowed the Somerset council to
request financial and physical aid to the region. This essay highlights the key reasons the Somerset
Levels flooded, as well evaluating the main management solutions that were put forward during the
peak of the flooding. The Somerset levels expand 170,000 acres across parts of the north and centre of
the county (BBC News, 2014). The majority of the soil consists of clay and further inland, peat. As the
Levels sit, on average, just three metres above sea level, it s also prone to coastal flooding. Every year
the area experiences some form of flooding due to its impermeable calcareous clays, which drains
water very slowly (Soilscapes, n.d.). The Autumn/Winter period saw a record breaking Jet Stream,
fuelled by a diving cold Polar Vortex across the US. With this, brought powerful storms across the
UK, which produced rapid cyclogenesis in the mid Atlantic (MetOffice, 2014). This pattern lasted
several months, exacerbating the flooding issues across the Somerset Levels. Not only was the
flooding caused by natural circumstances, manmade ingenuity also played a significant role;

Coming Home Analysis
There s nothing half so pleasant as coming home again. (Sangster, Worlds of Quotes ). Veterans
experience many feelings and emotions during their tenure in the service, but one of the sweetest
feelings is coming home, however one of the worst can be leaving home. So, how can we make the
coming home of our soldiers even better and easier? Coming home can be a very emotional time for
the soldiers themselves as well as the family. F. Scott states Its s a funny thing about coming home.
Looks the same, feels the same, smells the same. You realize what has changed is you. This quote
shows what it s like to return home and notice what has remained constant and what has altered. Also
In a way you are doing things that you have done many times before, but it has become completely
foreign to you. When you see your wife she is unfamiliar to you. When you first see her (...) her hair
has changed or she has new interests. It kinda feels like a first date (...) (Davis, How Do Military
Veterans Feel When They Return Home from Combat ). Here Davis is trying to describe the effort to
fit in again, like changing from a school to another then back to the first; but instead of random people
it s your family. Many things become unknown and many things have switched. From the people you
know to who you used to know. Davis also says When returning home you often don t mesh well with

A Simulation For The Motor Of A Bldc Motor Drive With The...
This paper presents a simulation for the sensorless operation of a BLDC motor drive with the
estimation of initial rotor position at standstill. The system determines the actual rotor position of the
motor at standstill and provides appropriate starting pulses to inverter switches to turn on. Once the
motor starts to rotate, it then directly extracts the back EMF from the motor terminals between the
floating phase and the midpoint of DC link. Inductance variation sensing method is used for
estimating the initial rotor position of the motor followed by a sensorless operation by back EMF
sensing method. The principle behind the rotor position estimation is detection and comparison of
phase voltage and dc link current responses and relating it with stator inductances.
The most advantage is that it requires only three voltage pulse injections of small duration for the
estimation of rotor position. A resolution of 30o can be achieved. The effectiveness of the method is
validated by simulation results in Matlab Simulink platform.

from prolonged hypertension and the use of the drug therapy. There are still other alternative treatment
therapies available, namely a lifestyle change.
Since the patient does not live a stable or an average existence several lifestyle changes will have to be

Overview and Challenges of Indian Gaming in San Diego
The history of Native American tribes is a long, complicated, and more often than not, a sad one.
Today, thanks to efforts to help tribes preserve their identity, culture and numbers by means of
reservations, many Native Americans not only survive, but also thrive. Indian gaming is one means
that has been a source of great income and prosperity for Native American tribes in the San Diego
region. Although the economic impact of gaming has been very positive, critics of legalizing and
regulating such casinos have expressed concerns regarding potentially negative impacts. While Indian
gaming in San Diego has positive impacts for the economy and upliftment of Indian tribes, negative
impacts could relate to industry monopolization. According to the National Gambling Impact Study
Commission Report (n.d.), large scale Indian casino gambling had its origins in 1987. During this
year, the Supreme Court found hat the state of California had no authority over gambling activities
within Indian reservations. The Court also recognized the need for regulation, however, and Congress
passed the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act (AGRA) in 1988. One of the provisions of the act requires
that revenues from gambling be used for the economic development and welfare of Indian tribes in
their region. This has been one of the primary advantages of Indian gaming in California in general
and in San Diego specifically. This is evident in the Barona reservation, where gaming has had
significant impacts

Secondary Characters In A Court Of Thorns And Roses
The book A Court Of Thorns And Roses by Sarah J. Maas has a lot in common with the book I am
reading now Fallen by Lauren Kate. In the book A Court Of Thorns And Roses, the main character
Feyre kills a member of a higher society and learns how to live her life without her family, who
depends on her to live. The other book Fallen, is about a teenager who is followed by the shadows of
her past. When she is taken to Swords Cross, she has to adjust to her new life. The similarities
between the two main characters in each book is very noticeable. You can see the similarities in their
mannerisms. I noticed this when I read even the first chapter of Fallen. I took note of how Feyre was
strong, confident and independent. Luce is also all of those, except for the fact that she is more
confident and strong on the inside than Feyre is. For example, in the scene where Arriane meets Luce
she is described as Strong and not too bad . This would be important because it can help you to
understand other characters from different books. They also help you to relate to the characters more.
The similarities between the two secondary characters in each book is very prominent. You can see the
resemblance between them throughout every move they make and word they say. I really noticed this
when I went through my notes about both of the books. Tamlin is a very charming, collected and
elegant man. On page 176 he is described using these words. Cam is also very sweet, calm and

Role Of Cosine In The Simpsons

  • 3. Mark Cuban and Sec Mark Cuban was offered that the Web search engine named Mamma.com was going to offer $16.6 million worth of new shares to private institution and other qualified investors. The information about PIPEs is material since it s not yet publicly announced and that info could affect the shareholders behaviors. 1. Why didn t the SEC accuse Mark Cuban of traditional illegal insider trading, considering he was the largest, individual shareholder of Mamma.com? Even though the information about PIPEs was material inside information, Mark Cuban was not accused as traditional insider information. To qualify as traditional insider trading, there must involve true insiders buying or selling the company s stock based on material inside information. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... SEC alleged that Mark Cuban violated misappropriate insider trading. To be qualified as misappropriate insider trading, an individual wrongfully obtains (misappropriates) inside information and trades on it for her or his personal benefit. In this case, Cuban actually traded his shares based on the material inside information he was told and saved him $750,000 in losses. Wrongful misappropriation means violation of a fiduciary duty. The Court found that Cuban had not misappropriated any material non public information because he had not violated a legal duty to refrain from trading. • 5. The North American Musical Film The North American Musical Film The musical film in the United States is largely associated with Broadway theatre. Broadway is an area in New York City where the biggest theatres are located, accommodating at least 500 people. Smaller theatres are said to be located Off Broadway and even smaller theatres are called Off Off Broadway. Some notable musical films such as Chicago (2002), My Fair Lady (1964) and West Side Story (1961) were adapted from musical plays and trace their origins to Broadway where they first started their production. Some Off Broadway productions also enjoyed a surge of popularity that warranted their expansion to film such as Rent (2005) and Fame (1980). Some musical films were adapted from West End productions which is the British counterpart of Broadway in London. Examples of such films are The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975), Oliver! (1968), and Mamma Mia! (2008). But not all musical films were adapted from the stage. When the musical genre enjoyed its peak of popularity, Hollywood was churning out original musical compositions. It was hard to resist adapting iconic compositions like Singin in the Rain (1952), Meet Me in St. Louis (1944) and 42nd Street (1933) for the stage. Given all these variations and just the sheer number of films originating in the United States, it is safe to say that North America has a very rich history of musical films. • 8. Emotional Analysis Of Dr. Oz Dr. Mehmet Oz, commonly known as Dr. Oz, hosts a successful American TV show that focuses on health, a topic that western culture has obsessed over. Recently, an increasing number of Americans have sought to lead a better lifestyle by eating better; however, false advertisement has made everyone believe that they must be willing to spend a small fortune to eat healthily. In the writing Give (Frozen) Peas A Chance And Carrots Too , Oz argues that one does not need to eat like the 1% to maintain a nutritious diet (1). His purpose is to inform his audience how and why they should shop smarter, and he undoubtedly does an excellent job at persuading them to take his advice to heart. He does so by forming a friendly bond with his audience, taking his argument to a personal level, and using facts to compare normal, store bought foods to their organic counterparts. The only distinguishable weakness in Oz s writing is that he fails to support his facts with evidence which leaves his arguments prone to becoming hollow. Dr. Oz is able to effectively get through to his audience by connecting with them on different levels of trust. For example, he formulates a friendly connection by keeping a casual, sociable tone, and at the same time, he uses ethos by establishing that he is a doctor to create a sense professionalism. Oz writes, as a doctor, I know that patients don t always have the time, energy or budget to shop for artisanal ingredients and whip them into a meal (1). He s trying to sound understanding of his audience s situation to make him more trustworthy. With these strategies, Oz is able to build his trust on both a doctor patient and a friendly platform which gets his audience to listen to him with an open mind. Oz successfully uses pathos to keep his audience engaged in his writing. He s able to anger his audience at something they might have never been even slightly flustered over by bringing up that which most people hold nearest to their heart: family. When describing the purpose of his essay, Oz says, I consider it a public health service to the consumer who has to feed a family of five or the person who wants to make all the right choices and instead is alienated and dejected because the ... The Roman gods are often influential on the participants in our readings, or they are one of the main characters. We have caught a glimpse into their feelings, actions, and the important roles each have played. The Romans believed that immortal gods ruled both the heavens and earth. Lucretius introduces us to a new thought process, also known as an epicurean philosophy. He suggests that supernatural causes should not be simply excused away because we are unable to see them. He further explains that we should not be concerned with how the Gods, Fate, or Fortune might try to control our lives, and we can be confident that natural answers do in fact exist. This thought process shows a detour from the traditional Roman worship of mythological gods, to an acceptance of new ideas or theories. Next, we will look at Virgil s Aeneid Book 1, Invocation to the Muse , as this story highlights some of the god s finest work yet. It shows us a glimpse into the character and heart that some of the gods have. This story begins with a man named Aeneas, the son of a mortal man and of the goddess Venus. With his mother s help, he escapes Troy during the war between the Achilles and the Greeks, and begins a difficult journey to Italy. Furthermore, the symbolic significance that pertains to the main character also shows how all individuals have both good and bad qualities. A repeating motif in the book is the reference to the play Othello . Skapearses famous play follows the life of the Moor Othello after is marriage to Desdemona. Iago, a loyal friend of Othello, was furious that the Moor overlooked him for a promotion, sparking his lust for revenge. Iago devised a plan to persuade the King that his had been having an affair with his trusted friend Cassio. Iago s actions resulted in the Moor killing Desdemona. After learning the truth, Othello committed suicide. The references to the play foreshadow the ending of the novel but also gives further explanations to the actions of Gibreel. The first mentions of Othello only occurred to criticize Shakespeare because he couldn t spell (256). The primary reference occurs when Gibreel wondered about the creation of evil, why it grows, how it takes unilateral possession of a many sided human soul. Or, let s say: the enigma of Iago (439). Gibreel continues by denying his allegations saying he s, no match for the moor (439). There are several ways to support allocation method decisions by documenting the activity that caused the costs to be incurred, identifying the benefits received as a result of incurring the cost, Justifying that the cost is reasonable or fair with the other party in a contract, and showing that the cost object has the ability to bear the cost. Some of the different allocation methods are joint costs, sunk costs, and opportunity costs. For example, a company might allocate or assign the cost of an expensive computer system to the three main areas of the company that use the system. A company with only one electric meter might allocate the electricity bill to several departments in the company. Managers are faced with making pricing decisions every day. This paper singled out two distinctive crowdsourcing applications from numbers of emerging applications, idea generation and Microtasking. Two examples, Amazon Mechanical Turk and Idea Storm are selected in order to understand the role of these two applications in real life. Moreover, comparison of these two cases are conducted, this allows readers have more comprehensive understanding of crowdsourcing and different roles in different applications. By completing or participating these tasks, individuals could get jobs, financial rewards, knowledge or experience.(2012)This definition will be further confirmed in following discussion on application examples. As mentioned in many literature, crowdsourcing can be used in many approaches, such as idea generation. Creation, development and idea exchanges are very abstracted; idea generation includes the construction of ideas, innovative ideas, development process and implementation the idea into reality. There are two ways of Idea generation through crowdsourcing, idea competition and ideation with collective intelligence (Moketer Hossain). Idea competition is company asks many people to contribute new ideas for the company through crowdsourcing, company will choose the best one and reward to the person. Ideation with collective intelligence refers to ideation with continuous interactions between firms and crowds. Like Poetz and Schreier (2012) said, idea come from crowds sometimes far beyond the company can think. Also as Surowiecki (2005) mentioned, the collective efforts from a number of innovative individuals often better than rely on some experts. Microtasking is a process that split a large task into many small tasks and publishes on the Internet. Microtasking is defined as the system that users can choose and complete small tasks with or without monetary rewards (Kittur, 2008). The birth of microtasking allows any person make ... Affective states are determined by certain patterns; one pattern would be a change in nervous system activity, such as an increase in heart rate. Isolation is the process to be or remain alone or apart from others. Due to seclusion, Frankenstein not only became socially isolated, but also quite lonely. The first moment we see Frankenstein being isolated is when he is engrossed in reading the past alchemists books, and wondering about the universe and the human mind; this small remoteness begins before he travels to Ingolstadt for university. This seclusion does not depress him, neither does it make him socially inept, it simply a start push to the journey. • 27. The Levels Of The Somerset Levels Flooded During the Autumn/Winter of 2013/14, an unusually high frequency of depressions moved across the Somerset Levels, causing both fluvial and pluvial flooding on a prodigious scale. The two main rivers which flow through the Levels (River Tone/Parrett), burst their banks, spilling into the already heavily saturated flood plain. An emergency was declared and subsequently allowed the Somerset council to request financial and physical aid to the region. This essay highlights the key reasons the Somerset Levels flooded, as well evaluating the main management solutions that were put forward during the peak of the flooding. The Somerset levels expand 170,000 acres across parts of the north and centre of the county (BBC News, 2014). The majority of the soil consists of clay and further inland, peat. As the Levels sit, on average, just three metres above sea level, it s also prone to coastal flooding. Every year the area experiences some form of flooding due to its impermeable calcareous clays, which drains water very slowly (Soilscapes, n.d.). The Autumn/Winter period saw a record breaking Jet Stream, fuelled by a diving cold Polar Vortex across the US. With this, brought powerful storms across the UK, which produced rapid cyclogenesis in the mid Atlantic (MetOffice, 2014). This pattern lasted several months, exacerbating the flooding issues across the Somerset Levels. Not only was the flooding caused by natural circumstances, manmade ingenuity also played a significant role; ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Veterans experience many feelings and emotions during their tenure in the service, but one of the sweetest feelings is coming home, however one of the worst can be leaving home. So, how can we make the coming home of our soldiers even better and easier? Coming home can be a very emotional time for the soldiers themselves as well as the family. F. Scott states Its s a funny thing about coming home. Looks the same, feels the same, smells the same. You realize what has changed is you. This quote shows what it s like to return home and notice what has remained constant and what has altered. • 30. A Simulation For The Motor Of A Bldc Motor Drive With The... This paper presents a simulation for the sensorless operation of a BLDC motor drive with the estimation of initial rotor position at standstill. The system determines the actual rotor position of the motor at standstill and provides appropriate starting pulses to inverter switches to turn on. Once the motor starts to rotate, it then directly extracts the back EMF from the motor terminals between the floating phase and the midpoint of DC link. Inductance variation sensing method is used for estimating the initial rotor position of the motor followed by a sensorless operation by back EMF sensing method. The principle behind the rotor position estimation is detection and comparison of phase voltage and dc link current responses and relating it with stator inductances. The most advantage is that it requires only three voltage pulse injections of small duration for the estimation of rotor position. A resolution of 30o can be achieved. The effectiveness of the method is validated by simulation results in Matlab Simulink platform. Keywords Brushless DC(BLDC), saturation, rotor position, voltage pulse injection. I. Today, thanks to efforts to help tribes preserve their identity, culture and numbers by means of reservations, many Native Americans not only survive, but also thrive. Indian gaming is one means that has been a source of great income and prosperity for Native American tribes in the San Diego region. Although the economic impact of gaming has been very positive, critics of legalizing and regulating such casinos have expressed concerns regarding potentially negative impacts. While Indian gaming in San Diego has positive impacts for the economy and upliftment of Indian tribes, negative impacts could relate to industry monopolization. According to the National Gambling Impact Study Commission Report (n.d.), large scale Indian casino gambling had its origins in 1987. During this year, the Supreme Court found hat the state of California had no authority over gambling activities within Indian reservations. The Court also recognized the need for regulation, however, and Congress passed the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act (AGRA) in 1988. One of the provisions of the act requires that revenues from gambling be used for the economic development and welfare of Indian tribes in their region.
