Health Care For The Nigerian Society
In many parts of the Nigerian society, the question of cost, willingness to pay and ability to pay
are important determinants of access to and utilization of health care systems (Omololu, Okunola,
Salami, 2012). The Nigerian people realized that many of their countries health care facilities were
lacking the necessary resources and supplies to function sufficiently and effectively, despite the
adoption of the core tenets of comprehensive primary health care in the 1980s. They needed to not
only make health care delivery affordable but also accessible to their people. In response to this
need, health Ministers from several African countries met and fashioned out strategies to accelerate
and advance the delivery of the Primary health... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The overall goal of the initiative is to ensure access to affordable and essential health services for
the majority of the Nigerian population, to restore consumer confidence through the
improvement in the quality of services provided with emphasis on promoting the health of
women and children (Uzochukwu, Onwujekwe, Akpala, 2004). Cost The Bamako Initiative
promoted the idea of the user fee . This user fee idea advocated for cost sharing and community
participation to increase the sustainability and quality of health care in Nigeria. It was proposed
that the user fee would increase the resources available for health care and improve efficiency as
well as equity to health care. The user fee basically meant that payment was due for health care
at the point of services rendered. According to (source) the payments collected for health care
services are referred to as the user fees. The ideals of user fees is quite variable and can include
any combination of drug costs, medical material costs, entrance fees, and consultation fees. With
the user fee implementation out of pocket costs varied for the type of health care service
rendered. For ante natal care (ANC) services, patients were required to pay out of pocket for their
cards, laboratory investigations and drugs (Uzochukwu, et al., 2004). For immunization such as the
oral polio vaccine (OPV1) and measles vaccine, there was no out of pocket cost; the

The Problem Of A Firefighter
Summary:There are people in this country who want to be firefighters but the problem is they
don t know if the want to pursue this career in a large city or a small town. I m proposing whether
it s better to be a firefighter in a large city like Kansas City or a firefighter in a small town like
Jefferson City. I m proposing this to anyone who might want to be a firefighter, also whether it is
better to live in Kansas City or Jefferson City. The cost of important things like utilities, housing,
groceries, and health are all important when making a decision on where you want to live and be
a firefighter because you can not just make your decision based on the job you also have to

My research will help people to decide where they want to be a firefighter, it will help them to
decide where they want to work. It will give them all the essential information they need to know
to make their decision on where they want to live and work. This will help out the people who
have this problem and help them to decide where they want to be a firefighter. And just because
you choose one town or city does not mean you can t go be a firefighter somewhere else in the
future.
Proposed Program/Solution: In kansas city there firemen are making $47,550 annually on
average and start out at $26,100 and a veteran firefighter gets paid $69,160 annually(How Much
Do 3). In jefferson city the average firefighter pay is $13,994 a year starting out and after a
couple years making $42,488 a year and as a veteran firefighter making $59,447(How Much Do
1). On average in the United States firefighters make $48,270 which means the average pay in
Kansas City is $580 or 1.2% higher than national average(How Much Do 4). Looking at the
historical salaries for Jefferson City, Missouri, the average pay for this job has decreased by
$13,994 ( 32.03%) from a year ago( How Much Do 1). From the data on salaries it appears that

Human Trafficking in Cambodia Essay
Human Trafficking in Cambodia Imagine a four year old girl growing up in contemporary
Cambodia. Each morning she wakes up miles from home, homesick and scared. She is forced to
beg for money for the brothel that she belongs to, and all of her earnings go straight to her master.
Then, that night, about seven men come to the brothel. These men, some as old as fifty, often pay
as little as two dollars to partake in sexual intercourse with these school aged children. The toddlers
enslaved in the horrific sex trade are forever stripped of their purity, making human traffickinga
major issue in present day Cambodia. Over 30,000 children are sexually exploited annually (

Girls are abused and beaten regularly, and the government condones these actions as if they are not
occurring. Currently, however, more and more respected organizations are helping with the fight
against human trafficking, although the problem still heavily influences the country. To begin with,
in Cambodia, human trafficking has been a pertinent problem for the past two decades, mainly
because of myths, poverty, and traditions. In the country, a tradition often surfaces about men
having a great desire to have sexual intercourse with those who are pure and young because it will
remove all of their sins. The myth is that when men had sexual relationships with virgins, it would
grant them luck and good health. For this reason, an abundance of pedophiles used to visit
Cambodia because they knew that the country condoned prostitution (Pesta). Due to the myth and
the command of pedophiles for prepubescent girls, brothels are targeting those younger and
younger. Children as young as four are being sent into the sex trade, and prostitution has become a
fixture of urban life in Cambodia ( The Face of ). Furthermore, visiting prostitutes has become a
common and accepted male pastime [in the country] (Sidner). The abundance of people in
Cambodia visiting the cities for the sole purpose of sex sullies the reputation of the country, and it

Traditionalism In The Lottery By Shirley Jackson
As times change, people are exposed for either being supportive of new ideas and values or for
being non accepting. People with traditional values tend to go with the latter and often demonstrate
their distaste with aggression. Author Shirley Jackson reveals the role traditionalism plays within
her fictional community in The Lottery. This lottery consists of the winner being stoned by the
few hundred people in the village (314). In The Lottery , it is out of Tessie s control that she is
selected for the lottery. Someone else could have easily been selected and it would not have made
a difference to the village people. Prior to Tessie being chosen, Jackson illustrated how popular
Tessie was amongst the townspeople. The townspeople were... Show more content on

Bridgitte was very different from myself as she identified herself as a scene kid. Despite our
school s strict dress coding policies, Bridgitte always wore dark, smoky, makeup and clothing
that exposed parts our uniform did not allow us. To me, this was something out of the ordinary.
However, I was accepting of her because she was a kind person and treated me as an equal. The
way she dressed and acted while she was in her scene phase did not make me think any less of
her. One day, Bridgitte and I were sitting down during our physical education class, chatting
away as our teachers gave instructions for our daily task. The conversation stopped for a second
and Bridgitte took a deep breath. I m bisexual, she whispered. To Bridgitte, this was probably
something very frightening to tell a friend. However, I did not understand why she felt the need
to announce this since it did not make a difference to me. All I said in response was, Okay. I
could feel her loosen up the moment I said that. I wondered why she was so afraid to tell me
something I thought was so simple. I came from a household where homophobic slurs were
always used but I never thought to give any power to the derogatory words. Instead, I ignored
them any time they were used. For this reason, I knew Bridgitte had no reason to be afraid of me.
Although I was unaware of it at the time, Bridgitte s fear was that people would no longer accept
her if they found out she was not

Pax Roman A Time Of Peace And Learning
Research paper: Pax Romana Rome s Golden Age, often called the Pax Romana , was a time of
peace and learning after the ongoing wars with neighboring barbarians, and civil wars. During this
time of peace, the Romans greatly expanded their commerce and also refine their art. With peace,
the romans spent less time focusing on war and more time focusing on the arts. History remembers
the legendary Roman legions as the one of the most deadly and successful fighting forces in the
ancient world. Even today, stories of their great success and invincibility in the face of their
enemies are still known. At the height of their empire, the Romans were able to conquer a vast
empire that stretched over three continents and maintain t power for centuries over the
Mediterranean Sea. The key to Rome s military success during the Pax Romana was the advanced
military innovations that the Romans incorporated into its great army that included military
bureaucracy, advanced battle tactics and military technology.
The Pax Romana was a time of relative peace during the Roman Empire. Although there were
small conflicts during The Pax Romana it was generally known as a time of prosperity and
expansion for Rome, mainly under the leadership of Emperor Augustus and Tiberius who
successfully expanded borders and made peace with neighboring barbarians. Pax Romana is Latin
for peaceful Rome. It lasted from 27 BC to 180 AD, from the end of the Republican Civil wars to
the death of Marcus Aurelious.

Psychological study of music is based on this reason. Studies have found that music can reduce
stress, aid relaxation, alleviate depression, and help store and recall information among other
functions. William Congreve once stated that music has the charms to soothe the savage beast .
Stress is reduced through music by decreasing the amount of the hormone cortisone released in the
body. This can be applied to everyday life for stress relief (Music and Stress, 1998).
Music therapy is a new intervention that uses music and musical activities for the purposes of
altering behavior and enhancing the everyday existence of people with various types of emotional
disturbance . People have been using forms of music therapy since the earliest recorded history.
Egyptian priests spoke incantations that supposedly influenced women`s fertility. Hebrews and
Greeks treated physical and mental illness with the playing of music. Zenocrates, Sarpander, and
Arien, all of whom were Greeks, were the first to use music therapy as a regular practice. They
employed harp music to ease the outbursts of people with mental illnesses (Shapiro, 1969).
Nursing homes often hire music therapists. People are likely to feel depressed and grief stricken
when moved away from their homes and families into a facility for strangers to take care of them.
Music therapy helps to relieve grief and improve emotional tones and feelings (Shapiro, 1969).
Therapists can also help residents that suffer from

The Transformation by Mary Shelley
What does a person think holds the most influence; the mistake itself or the actions that fallow
after seeing the daylight of their mistakes? Will the mistakes be left to suffer in silence or will
that person submit to their fatalities in a humble manner? In the short story Transformation by
Mary Shelley, the main character Guido recalls his life story and admits all the horrible mistakes
he made, despite his shame and embarrassment. He s a young man who was desperately in love
with Juliet; although he was an arrogant and selfish man who disregarded Juliet s feelings. Even
after he realized he had lost Juliet forever, a dwarfconvinces him revenge is the adequate reaction.
So, Guido trades his appearance and life for the Dwarf s riches. Guido believes that in order to
exact revenge on Juliet and her father he needs money; the catch is this exchange will only last
for three days. When he sees the Dwarf inside his own body, he realizes his own faults and his
selfless act in response re paid his debt in the end. The moral lesson of Transformation by Mary
Shelley is that making a mistakeis not the biggest issue; what you do once you realize where you
went wrong is what matters. The author developed this moral through conflict and characterization.
Mary Shelley use Guido s inside war as a conflict in her short storyTransformation to help support
the moral lesson that making a mistake isn t what truly matters. It is your reaction from your
mistake and what you learn

Essay about Economics of a Monopoly
Economics of a Monopoly
Introduction
ВЎВ§MonopolyВЎВЁ is defined by its market power. Monopolies are always known to possess
an exclusive control over its particular market and that gives them the sovereign authority to control
the prices for its goods or services (Dictionary.com Unabridged (v1.1), 2006). Hence, they represent
the market. They indeed have detrimental effects on consumer and social welfare.
In this paper, section 1 will focus on the theory and economics of a monopoly. Section 2 will
discuss with a recent case of monopoly, as in the web search engine company Google, whose real
repercussion is still not clear to most consumers. Finally this essay will conclude with the outlook
on how world markets are opening up to each ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

as in a competitive firm. It should be noted that AR=P, thus price to quantity is same as the average

1.2 Monopoly against perfect competition
To understand better how the monopoly affects the market, we need to compare monopoly to
perfect competition. Where there is perfect competition, the company is unable to decide the price
of their product. In other words, the company has to label their prices according to the prices of
their competitors. However, in a monopoly, they decide the prices and that too, at a much higher
price with a different output compared to a competitive industry (Sloman, 2005).Some key points

The Digital Music Industry Is Forever Evolving
The digital music industry is forever evolving. The problem of piracy has been created when
people began to illegally download music. Music should not be pirated. Piracy can be partially
reduced by using various advertising messages encouraging students not to pirate. Music producers
should be a given the right to their music. Producers and advertisingagencies can work hand in hand
to fight the battle of music piracy.
The majority of college students may see music piracy as nothing but a way to retrieve the new
music they want to listen to but producers see it as much more than that. The problem with this
is that college students download an estimated 1 billion songs a year (317).Piracy is defined as
the unauthorized use of a copyrighted work of material. Producers work hard to produce their
music. They try and sell their music in order to make a living. Pirating is illegal, but in this
digital age, there are so many ways around it. Producers are having to work with advertising
agencies to combat this illegal act from taking place. A study done by three professors from
Syracuse and Marquette University looked at how this could take place. They came up with a
creative way to solve this problem.
The study showed a way to prevent piracy and how to keep college students from illegally
downloading music. It is broken down in to the four phases of how the research was done. The
research was done over two years and backed up by many other sources. The structure of the paper

The Importance Of The Battle Of Chancellorsville
The Battle of Chancellorsville was one the most important encounters between the Union and
the Confederates in what s known as the Chancellorsville Campaign. The Battle of
Chancellorsville began on April 30, 1863 in the rural Spotsylvania County, Virginia and ended 6
days later on May 6, 1863. The battle was a result of the Union trying to take control of the
Confederate capital, Richmond, Virginia. The Union had four previous attempts with the same
objective, but they were defeated every time. The Union s energy was low, so General Joseph
Hooker stepped in for Major General Ambrose Burnside. He planned to restore the troop s morale

Examples Of Colonialism Of Robinson Crusoe
Robinson Crusoe Literary Criticism
Essay
Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe is a tale based on the real survival of a Scottish merchant
marooned on a Caribbean island during the early 1700s. In Expanding Empires, Expanding Selves

religious conversion, expansion of trade, and the mastering of oneself and destiny In the novel.
Robinson Crusoe is a great example of literature, culture and European ideology of the 18th

It may have outdated ideas and themes but that is a product of literature of the 18th century.
Survival in the 1700s on a deserted island is the same as survival on a desert island today witch I
find interesting. Except Crusoe had access to firearms. Throughout his time on the island, he
relies heavily on a fowling piece (and un rifled musket designed to use multiple round lead balls,
this gave each ball less overall velocity, but it was designed to be used at close ranges similar to a
shotgun) this gave him the biggest advantage on the island. I agree with McInally that
colonialism and expansion of trade were some of the biggest themes of the novel. Defoe s was
writing about what he knew and experienced. Also from the stories about the savageness and
unforgiveness of the new world. The most important theme was the mastering of oneself and
destiny before you can truly understand what is important to you and how you are going to live
your life. Throughout crusoe s time of the island this continues, cultivates barley, rice and corn,
builds a fort, domesticated goats, He kills the cannibals and rescues friday, reconnects to God and
himself, and finally gets rescued. Only after mastering the whole island, Crusoe gets rescued. If

Native American Supernatural Elements
Native Americans do not explain their supernatural elements the same way other cultures do. Most
other cultures try to talk about gods, or ghosts, or supernatural elements. Native Americans use
nature and spirits to explain the supernatural elements. Native American myths instead rely on
nature and spirits to tell the story, which reflects on their culture s belief system. The Native
Americans have many myths and folktales, and most of them share many common themes and
archetypes with other cultures, myths ,and legends. Almost every Native American myth or piece
of folklore revolves around nature and its power; while spirits are used mainly to explain the

something, not simply being the chief s son or being the most beautiful. The Invisible One is

Main Themes Of Dissatisfaction In The Mayor Of Casterbridge
The Mayor of Casterbridge has two main themes. One theme is dissatisfaction, which is a main
reason when the characters end relationships with each other. The other theme is the indelibility of
the past. Some characters had long term effects when their past was learned by other characters.
People were not forgiven for their past as easy in the early nineteenth as they are today. The author
used these themes very well, for people to assert into their life.
Dissatisfaction is very major in The Mayor of Casterbridge because many relationships are broken
and mended in the book. Those characters are dissatisfied with their current state of being, so they
move on to a different stage in their life, which can lead to other relationships being repaired. The
author is teaching the readers to move on, if something in their life is dissatisfying them.
One example of a character being dissatisfied is when Newson fakes his death because he knows
Susan is not satisfied and wants to go back to Michael Henchard. Susan found out that she didn t
have to stay with Newson, so she wanted to go back to Henchard. Susan became unpleasant to
be around, and Newson knew she wanted to go back to Henchard. On page 288, in The Mayor
of Casterbridge, Newson says Since I m here, here I ll bide, I thought to myself; twill be most
kindness to her, now she s taken against me, to let her believe me lost; for, I thought while she
supposes us both alive she ll be miserable; but if she thinks me dead she ll go back to him, and
the child will have a home. Newson faked his death to satisfy Susan and bring happiness in her life.
When Lucetta met Farfrae, she became dissatisfied with Henchard. To Lucetta, Farfrae was a
younger and better version of Henchard. Lucetta was going to marry Henchard, but she knew that
she should would not be happy with him. Lucetta also found out about Henchard s past, and she
was dissatisfied with the way he treated his first wife. On page 209, Lucetta says I learnt of the
rumor that you had вЋЇ sold your first wife at a fair, like a horse or cow. How could I keep my
promise after hearing that? Lucetta knew she was not going to be satisfied with Henchard if she
married him, so she moved on with her life.

Environmental Problems Facing The Earth
Patton, Cade
AP Environmental Science
The biggest environmental problem that faces Earth today is pollution. There are a bunch types of
pollution on planet Earth but by far air pollution is the deadliest. Air pollution can inhibit the
breathing of living organisms. Many major companies including Exxonmobil and Bp who are
leading the air pollution race with a Exxonmobil averaging 39 million tons of emissions. These
emissions are released into the air by the process of making gasoline and chemicals. The second
biggest environmental problem Earth faces each year is the decrease of natural resources. When it
comes to natural resources the depletion of fossil fuels and deforestation are destroying the
planet. Deforestation is the removal of trees in a wide area to the point of where it s almost not
a forest anymore. On the other hand the depletion of fossil fuels is scary because fossil fuels are
a nonrenewable resource. They are nonrenewable because they are being used up faster than they
are being created. And it can take up to millions of years for more fossil fuels to be created. And
finally for my third pick of the biggest environmental problems facing the Earth is the depletion of
its Ozone layer. Some chemicals named Chlorine and bromine are in the atmosphere and are
deteriorating the Ozone layer which consists of three hydrogen atoms.

Essay on Expand Ukraine’s Political Ambitions
The month of November in Ukraine was interesting, to say the least. Politically, the Ukrainian
President, Viktor Yanukovych attempts to reform amending bills, while also socially ignoring the
decline in press freedom. However, a major noteworthy article appeared on the stands: Ukraine
goes offshore. This article is probably one of the most important events that occurred in November,
which discusses revenue lost on offshore taxschemes. As an attempt to electronically expand
Ukraine s political ambitions, Viktor Yanukovych

He even goes as far as to say, the written press is as it was before (AFP). The information
associated with Google s article, President denies problem with Ukraine press freedom ,
discusses the television networks across Ukraine as experiencing horrendous mishaps, such as
the censoring of broadcasts and the removal of episodes that go against the regulations transpired
by the president. If Yanukovych does not approve of the media associated with the press, he
opposes the spreading of the ideas. Unfortunately, Yanukovych seems to acknowledge the fact
that he will only allow production of news, journals, pictures, etc., if they portray the truth. The
truth, in fact, is quite limited by the strict regulations Yanukovych orders Ukraine s networking
companies to follow. As this issue is heightened by Yanukovych s disapproval and lack of
understanding, I definitely am worried for the social state of the nation. As someone living in a
free nation, I understand the social liberties that are given to a nation, and how it allows people to
globalize their social understandings. Once Ukraine becomes socially deteriorated by Yanukovych
s policies, Ukraine will suffer with various downfalls in freedom. I am a strong opponent to this
ordeal for these reasons. I feel that Yanukoyvch continues to fear opposition and removal from
office, so he eliminates all possible enemies. By exterminating the social

My First Activity Of The Food Pantry
My first activity that I was involved in with Catholic Social Services was the food pantry. As my
children progressed through high school, I knew certain classes or clubs were involved with
participating in food drives. Our house was one of the most targeted homes for quite some time
as we live directly across the street from St. Michael s Elementary School which is where some
of the organizations met. St. Cecilia s is also a school that requires wearing a uniform and,
occasionally, the kids could have a free jeans day if each student brought in so many items for
the food pantry and my children were no different than a lot of the others...they wanted to wear
jeans so they would raid my pantry to take food to school. I did not really give it much thought at
the time when I was pulling food from my pantry of how this small act of kindness would help
others. I knew there was a need for the food otherwise the food drive would not take place. I was so
naГЇve in my thought process at that time. The night that I helped sort food at the food pantry
was a major eye opener. My role for the evening was to help supervise high school students, who
were sorting through the food as a community service project. When I walked into the basement
where the food sorting was done, I found several areas that housed certain foods. In talking with
the coordinator, I found that most of that foods had been donated by various stores whether the

straightforwardness. The title of the piece, tells the reader exactly what the poem is about while
the writer s thoughts are followed throughout the length of the poem with the writer s unique style.
Cope s approach of classified advertisements captures the reader s imagination and understanding
that one may be so desperate to find love that he would go to many extremes to find someone
special. Through word choice, diction, imagery and irony, she keeps the reader s attention. Cope,

The reader can tell that these people are indeed lonely, you would think that they would take any
person that may come their way. However, they seem as if they seek perfection, which we know
cannot be found in one person, therefore they may end up back to this classified ad in the near
future. Imagery along with a touch of irony is found within the poem to pull the reader into the
poem. The speakers describe exactly who they are, and what they are looking for in the person
who they seek. Executive in search of something new Perhaps bisexual woman, arty, young. Do
you live in North London? Is it you? (7) Within the captioned lines, we see exactly who the
person is and what they seek. The reader can envision who the person is almost to the point
where we are able to see them dressed in their character. It is very ironic the speakers choice of
finding a match for themselves. You would think persons this lonely would make time to try to
go out to find a person. However, they write an ad and hope that someone would read the ad and
find them. This thought seems to be ironic for persons who find themselves in a place of
desperation like the captioned persons. They should ve been looking at social spots or events to
find that which they are seeking. Lonely Hearts conveys a deep sense of desperation of those who
seek alternative methods of finding love. This trend of matchmaking has significantly grown from

Hypothyroidism Essay
Hypothyroidism is an affliction that results from the disruption of the effectiveness of the thyroid
gland and its hormone secretion. According to Cabello and Wrutnia (1989), the thyroid is key in
affecting growth hormone (GH), and in turn, body growth as a whole. As a part of the endocrine
system, the thyroidgland is responsive to the pituitary gland through the delivery of thyroid
stimulating hormone (TSH), and the pituitary gland is responsive to the hypothalamus s messenger,
thyroid regulating hormone (TRH). When cells called thyroid gland follicles are underactive, both
growth and overall development can be affected. Additionally, removal of the pituitary has been a
method employed by endocrinologists to induce hypothyroidism. A clinical case described by
Nussey and Whitehead (2001) revealed symptoms often associated with hypothyroidism, including
a disruption of mental processes, gut motility, metabolic rate and the skeleton .... Show more content

T4 is made into its active form, triidothyronine (T3) when acted upon by an iodine removing
enzyme, 5 deiodinase. Other studies have also shown that a lack of iodine can lead to
hypothyroidism (Nussey and Whitehead, 2001). Indeed, as reported by Zimmerman (2009), it has
been shown that low iodine levels are linked to transient newborn hypothyroidism, which can
impede growth dramatically. Still, other researchers have shown that propylthiouracil (PTU)
prevents the transformation of T4 into active T3 (Geffner et al, 1975), disrupting its permissive
effects. Clearly, hypothyroidism can be brought upon an individual by a variety of methods, many
of which can be demonstrated in a laboratory setting. This experiment s study focused on the effect

Lupercal and most of the modern works that portray the Capitoline she wolf or are in some way
derived from it. As such, the museum has also provided a very detailed description about the
different parts of the Lupa Romana and what their significance to Rome despite it s rather distant
ties from the time period itself. According to the Capitoline Museum, the Lupa Romana depicts the
origins of the myth of the miraculous suckling of Romulus and Remus. It analyses previous
examples and iconographic models and traces the development, during the period of Ancient Rome,
of its artistic representation, which kept its symbolic value right up to the end of the ancient period.
However, as previously mentioned, the small statues of Romulus and Remus have been
speculated to not have been added till the renaissance era and are indeed not part of the original
Lupa Romana. However, the piece as a whole, as mentioned, is influential in the mythical origin of
Rome itself. Not only that, but it kept the values and ideals of Rome up till the end of Republic
period.
Capitoline Museum also associates the Lupa Romana with in post ancient history and its symbolic
association with the city of Rome.

Relationship Between Leaf Size And Annual Sex Expression
Relationship between leaf size and annual sex expression in Arisaema triphyllum
VICKY NGUYEN
University of Toronto, Scarborough
Summary
Disparity in cost of reproduction has lead sexually reproducing plants to develop different methods
of dealing with the cost of reproduction, an example of this is sequential hermaphroditism, where an
individual can change sex at one point in their life. Jack in the pulpit, Arisaema triphyllum, is a
sexually dimorphic plant that exhibits sequential hermaphroditism, this study looks to see if female
A. triphyllum will exhibit the largest leaf sizes due to their need to meet higher costs of reproduction
. Forty individuals were surveyed for sex and largest leaf length per area for 7 different locations
within Morningside ravine. Individuals were analyzed for mean leaf length per sex, and means
were analyzed for significance with a 1 way ANOVA followed by a tukey test. All means were
found to be significantly different from each other with the mean of females leaves the largest,
followed by males, and asexual individuals were the smallest. Female individuals of A. triphyllum
had the largest leaf sizes to compensate for their elevated costs of reproduction. The size advantage
model explains that that female A. triphyllum will have the largest leaves because female
individuals are able to best meet the costs of reproduction at larger sizes.

Characterisation Of Iago And Iago In William Shakespeare s...
Shakespeare created the character of Iago in a complex way that made critics differ when
interpreting the role he played in the Othello drama. A.C. Bradley consider that the tragedy is
the undoing of the noble Moor by the devilish cunning of Iago, (1963[1952], p. 137). It was
external evil, the malice of the devil, that turned a happy story of romantic lovers who were
capable to live happily ever after, so to speak into a tragedy while literary critic F. R. Leavis attacks
the Bradley view, asserting that the fact is that in Shakespeare s tragedy of OthelloOthello is the
chief personage the chief personage in such a sense that the tragedy may fairly be said to be
Othello s character in action. Iagois subordinate and merely ancillary. (p. 138).
Surely there is some truth in both views. Whether we agree or disagree with these views depends
on how we read the whole play, and how we understand Shakespeare s characterisation of Othello
and Iago throughout.
From beginning to end Iago moves the characters of Othello as if they were chessmen. He uses their
individual passions and aspirations to motivate them to whatever deceitful plan ... Show more

Iago is very manipulative. Iago is a principal at manipulation. Through his plain words, he plants
seeds of doubt in Othello.
Iago can be blamed for Othello s downfall because it is his inherent evil, jealousy, bitterness, and
resentment towards the general that leads him to begin an evil plot, not only to punish him but to
get rid of him totally. Iago s ill feeling towards the general occurs even before Othello s
appointment of Cassio as his lieutenant.
Iago is the most important cause of the tragedy. The main and predominant reason that brings about
the tragic downfall of Othello is Iago s highly sophisticated art of bluff, and his unbelievable ability
and understanding for manipulating the mind and feelings of the every other

But if he had visited ten years ago, it might have been closer to 50 cents. As India has become
more productive over the last few decades, wages in the tradable sector (IT) rose, pulling up
wages in the nontradable sector (waiters), and the currency has appreciated. There is a still a major
price difference D.C. and Delhi. One dollar will pay for much less stuff in America than its
equivalent in rupees will buy in India. But as Indian exports continue to grow, one should expect
Shyam s lunch to get more and more expensive.
There is much more to price levels than the Nanny Effect. Much, much, much more. Restrictive
urban policy raises the price of rent in similarly productive cities. Energy policies and levies raise or
lower the price of gas. Tariffs raise the price of imports. On a nation by nation basis, taxes restrain
demand and subsidies increase supply on an idiosyncratic basis.
But perhaps the easiest way to mess with Balassa and Samuelson is for a government to
manipulate foreign exchange rates. China, for example, is famous for pegging its currency to the
U.S. dollar to make its exports more competitive. As a result, services in China are probably
cheaper than they would be if the government weren t actively trying to depreciate the currency. If

Power And Control In William Shakespeare s The Tempest
In William Shakespeare s romantic comedy play, The Tempest, we witness an endless amount of
power struggles and scheming amongst characters, all in the hopes of achieving one thing:
complete control over the remote island in which they re stranded on. Throughout the play,
characters choose their allies, set targets on their enemies, and manipulate situations and one
another in an attempt to reach their end goals. Each character that strives to colonize the island
has different motives based on their place in the social hierarchy and their relationships to fellow
characters. However, each character seeking control over the island not only has their own
motives, but also their own vision for what the island could be under their sole jurisdiction. The
three main players seeking to colonize the island and make their own vision of what it could be
into a reality are Prospero, Caliban, and Gonzalo. Between these three characters we see
relationships between the colonizer, the colonized, and one character who envisions the island as
an opportunity to create the perfect society. Power and control are prominent themes in
Shakespeare s The Tempest, as the audience is faced with severe questions of morality and who has
rightful claim of the island.
As the play begins, we learn of the master/servant relationships that are already in place on the
island. Prospero is the current all powerful and omnipotent ruler of the island, who uses strategical
social tactics of abuse and manipulation

The New Leader Integration Process
The book, Before Onboarding, illustrates a productive way to hire and retain quality candidates
for executive positions in a cost effective and efficient way (Burroughs, 2011). Moreover, the
book explains ways to improve the transition of the new leader, whether he or she is an internal
transfer or an outside executive. Regardless of where the new leader originated, internal or
external, the process is fundamentally the same and it consists of 6 distinct steps (Burroughs,
2011). The New Leader Integration process is first explained to the prospective new hire and the
mutual benefit for both the new leader and the organization is explained. Primarily, a set of
interviews are conducted with the bosses, peers and direct reports with all the answers to the
questions kept confidential (Burroughs, 2011). In addition, interviews may be added to include
large customers, suppliers and trustees if needed. Once the 6 steps of the process are completed,
the new executive should have the necessary knowledge of the organization, thereby improving his
or her chance for success.
The benefit of using the New Leader Initiative as a means to hire the best leader for the
organization is based on a concept described as the Leadership Pipeline (Ram Charan, 2001). In this
style of leadership an individual must pass through a series of leader transitional phases, each with
their own individual defined passage (Ram Charan, 2001). If the organization ignores the inherent

Analysis Of Chickamagua By Ambrose Bierce
In the short story Chickamagua written by Ambrose Bierce, the author follows a young six year
old boy with no name and a hearing and speech impediment s journey throughout the mist of an
ongoing dreadful war. Ambrose describes and narrates the story in an omniscient third person
view, which is important to note because he is partially influenced by his own experiences of
war; specially the Civil War. The central idea and theme being portrayed in this story is how the
destruction and chaos of war destroys this young adolescence s innocence by being introduced
to war first hand. To characterize and depict this, Ambrose uses literary elements such as
imagery and symbolism to further his points. He really wants to drive home how this boy s
romanticism for war can be turned upside down, especially when directly affected by war.
Ambrose puts the boy s disconnection with reality into perspective by initially describing him as
a child [who] strayed away from its rude home in a small field and entered a forest unobserved
and as someone who in bodies his ancestors thirst for discovery and conquest , alluding to the
fact that he is carelessly determined to explore (405). This irresponsible and carefree attitude sets
the tone for how the boy responds to war first hand. As the story progresses further, the boy ends
up falling asleep in the woods and later wakes up too an army marching forward towards battle.
The boy naively sees this as a game and joins in, only to experience the

Three Major Problems of Global Politics
Final Exam Paper Decision making is a complex process that is influenced by many different
factors. Three major factors that affect global politics today include free ridership, groupthink, and
shadow of the past. These are problems that are central to scholars of I.R., and serve as obstacles
to achieving cooperation among countries. To better understand the impact of these issues, it will
be necessary to assess why each is important, and the theories that offer the best explanations of
their presence. By analyzing these aspects, reaching possible solutions will be much more
attainable and the more clear it will become as to how these problems are interconnected with each
other. Nearly interchangeable to the term freeloader, free ridership occurs when people take
advantage of something without contributing any amount of work themselves. Every I.R. scholar is
familiar with this term as well as is familiar with the problems it can produce in the international
arena. One of the most clearly seen examples of free ridership is the environment. Some countries
such as Switzerland and Iceland have elected to invest greatly in renewable energy and have since
experienced many benefits from such measures. There also exists, however, many countries of the
world that do very little to support the environment. China and the United States, the two richest
countries in the world are also among the most environmentally destructive countries. But why

was put together partially for college student to read the main focus point of the author. Bly
makes points back and forth in his essay of in the between paternalistic society and the sibling
society that he observed and argues the differences. He blames the first generation because of their
disrespect of authority to let down in traditional values that failed to provide a moral compass for
the young. The strong point of this book is his description of a disturbing development in modern
society that denies to become a fully adult. Admiration for elders has disappeared and forgotten,
tradition has worn out, and families are being ignored.
Writer Bly, talks about during his generation, paternal society, being uniformity and how they had
an elaborate and internally consistent form (250) during paternal society, kids learned how to talk
to the adults, to be respectful and responsible at school yet, they still asked for their authority

What Is Voltaire s Idea Of The Round Table
The Painting Round table by Adolph Menzel is a painting that shows, people like Voltaire gathered
around in the round table in the palace of the Prussian King Frederick II. The era of this painting
was during the Enlightenment. The Enlightenment was a time where western thought and culture
was a big deal, this thought came around in the 1700s. Science, philosophy, society and politics

the entire set of presuppositions that had served to constrain and guide philosophical inquiry.

on a lower cost and change the way consumers purchase goods and services, changing the market
forever. One of the best examples of this type of Disruptive Innovation was Toyota. Toyota came
into the American market and offered inexpensive cars that offered very view features and small 4
cylinder engines. At first many consumers turned their nose up to the Toyota products. But some
consumers bought the Toyota because they were a cheaper option for automobile transportation.
When more customers started to purchase Toyotas and the company was able to establish a solid
footing in the American Business market and they started to change the model of their business.
Toyota started to offer higher end cars and eventually moved into the luxury automobile industry
with the Lexus line of cars. Disruptive innovation is a continual process and happens in business all

Religions of Judaism, Christianity, Islam
1.
God to the people of the big three monotheist religions (Judaism, Christianity, Islam) see god as an
all knowing, all seeing, and all powerful being.
I believe that that the Cosmological argument gives good reason to believe in the existence of
God. The Cosmological argument focuses on everything having a cause except one thing that
started it all, this starter is known as the Prime Mover . The Prime Mover is the one that starts
everything without anything having a previous effect on it. With that people have assumed that the
logical answer to who the prime mover is, is God. This to me seems the most logical of arguments
because although there is the idea of eternity and an eternal cycle there has to be a starting point. I
do not believe the argument is successful.
The reason that the argument does not succeed is because what proof is there that the prime
mover is an all powerful all mighty being? There could be alternate reasons related to science, The
Big Bang Theory, which could also be a reason. One of Aquinas s arguments against the
cosmological argument discussed that since everything in nature had a time where it did not exist
there had to be a time where it was nothing to bring anything into being. His argument was if this
was possible there was nothing around to bring the universe into being in the first place. Due to
this a being such as God is not likely to have existed before to create it. Who created God? The
only thing that could be done to better prove

Portugal and Denmark generated US$ 203.1bln and US$ 198.5 respectively. However, if the GDP

The social circumstances in the countries are mainly impacted by unemployment rates and
general standards of living. Unemployment rates in 2006 (see fig. 4) are well below EU average

Unlike la Belle Dame she does not the man to loiter . Madeline does have this temptress value,

Keats describes la Belle Dame Sans Merci with an admiration. It is almost as if he is the man in

conversational way. Ah what can ail thee the first line asks. Then Keats proceeds to tell the story.
Keats shows man as weak in this poem, love as a disability. We are shown how this man is

The Revolution Of Modernism And The Mesopotamian Architecture
A building is designed for functionality. This principle has served as the cornerstone of architecture
in the United States and throughout the world since the first hut of the Mesopotamian civilization.
As the centuries go by, this principle started to deviate. With a series of political debris left over
from the World War II, the Cold War
and the revitalizing economic policies of the Reagan Era,
Canadian American architect Frank Gehry was able to shatter the established architectural norm of
the modern era and pen an iconoclastic style called deconstructivism in the postmodern 1980s,
leaving a resounding legacy in the architectureindustry.
The social and political debris remaining by the end of World War II and the Cold War stifled the
possibility of a new architectural movement. The revolution of modernism, a form of architecture in
which function dictated form, in the postwar decades turned into a routinized corporation that
headed towards unpromising directions as it instigated the diminishment of architectural meaning
and artistic expression. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even after completing in 1978, the house still appeared to be under construction, wrapped in
materials out of an industrial catalogue. The house retained its essence as a perpetual construction
site, exemplifying Gehry s contradictory mixture of the ordinary and the avant garde. Combining
modernist form making with common materials, he had the courage to exploit the implicit freedom

Essay On Mexican American War
Today, the Mexican American War is still a widely argued topic of controversy with Mexico and
America. But now, this hot topic of controversy can be put to rest. Was the U.S. justified in going
to war with Mexico? The United States was justified in going to war with Mexico because Texas
had been free and wanted to be annexed into the U.S., Mexicoattacked U.S troops, and Mexico let
U.S citizens in. Before this whole war started, Mexico had won its independence from Spain in
1821., Shortly after in 1830, an American named Stephen Austin went to Texasfor a huge piece of
land. He then brought 10,000 Anglos, or white people, into Texas because it was his end of the
bargain. After that, the Mexican government put tighter control on Texas, and also enforced laws
the Anglos in Texas did not believe were right. Just like the American Revolution, a rebellion
started in 1833. In 1836, a Spanish fort that was turned into a base for the Texan rebellion, called
the Alamo, was attacked. All of the Texan fighters were killed. That devastating loss somehow
helped Texas to win the next war, and gain its independence. (Roden 269) Shortly after, Texas was

war. (Roden 317) There were 63 U.S. officers who were camping on the north side of the Rio

bigger army of Mexican troops attacked them.(Polk 325) Even JeЕ›us Velasco Marquez, a modern

Dental Pathology Of Surgical Pathology
At the age of 3 years, most little girls are playing with Barbie Dolls, tea party sets and an
occasional pink soccer ball. My years were spent in the Surgical Pathology suite goggling over
various organ cancers with assorted Surgeons and my enthusiastic Mother. In fact, unlike most kids
dreading to go to work with a parent, I thought it was an exciting experience. Around the age of
twelve I realized that I was interested in the field of medicine. Namely Surgical Pathology.
I decided to delve deeper and start to ask my mentor (My unconventional, eccentric, and ever
worrying Mother) more and queried her about daily activities that she does as a Surgical
Pathologist. To begin her week, work starts around 7:30 am. After arriving she... Show more

It can be used on all tissues and it helps Pathologists identify the cytoplasmic and nuclear
structure of a cell. More specific stains seek to answer other questions specific to the patient s
condition. For example, an Iron stain may be required in a patient who underwent a liver biopsy
looking for a disease such as Hemochromatosis or other iron storage condition. Other types of
special stains may be necessary to examine the tissue for infection. An example would be in a lung
biopsy where the patient may have a fungus infection such as Aspergillous. A special stain of PAS
/Light Green may be utilized to bring out the fungus if present which may not be evident on routine
H E stains. In the 21st century, molecular markers are currently in vogue. Breast cancer requires a
number of immunohistochemical markers such as Estrogen and Progesterone. These special stains
are looking for the antibody to Estrogen or Progresterone in the patient s breast cancer tissue. If this
is present, the Oncologist may treat the patient with certain drugs like Tamoxifin. Herceptin may be
used in patient s who have a positive Her2neu antibody. This may be measured by standard
immunohistochemistry as in Estrogen or Progesterone measurements. The alternative is to use a
molecular testing to quantify the receptors of Her2neu receptors. The above simply illustrates in
the most basic way a most complex topic utilizing whole tissue samples. Many times large tissue

Emerging Therapies For Sickle Cell Anemia
Emerging therapies for sickle cell anemia
Cesi Salmeron
Suny Rockland Community College
Abstract
Sickle cell anemia (SCA) is an inherited disorder that produces sickle or crescent shape red blood
cells. Thus, the mutated erythrocytes result in an inadequate supply of oxygen being transported
throughout the body. Research shows that among those affected the most with the sickle cell gene
are African Americans. In recent years, we have seen a decrease in mortality and morbidity
rates as a result of new approaches to treating the disease. The more we understand the
pathophysiology of sickle cell anemia, the more we learn about developing therapies for genetic
disorders such as SCA. In this paper, we will briefly discuss what sickle cell anemia is and possible
treatments for people with sickle cell anemia such as gene therapy and new drugs.
What is sickle cell anemia?
Sickle cell anemia (SCA) is an autosomal recessive genetic disorder. This missense mutation is
characterized by mutant beta globin subunits that tend to stick together (Cummings, 2014). As a
result, abnormally shaped red blood cells are produced by this disorder. The erythrocytes are
sickle or crescent shaped. Sickling occurs under hypoxic conditions, in which there is insufficient
supply of oxygen delivered throughout the body (Sun Xia, 2013). In order to inherit this
monogenic disease, one copy of the sickle globin gene from each parent must be passed on to the
offspring (Ashley Koch,

Since be promoted to these occupations, you become a leader under some situations. Most
people did not realize and think over what they should do for the position. In this paper, it will
provide a general aspect of characteristics, process of leadership and then apply to accounting firm.
Generally, before becoming a leader, individual has many characteristics for working as an
employee. It should be discussed first that what kind of characteristics is helpful to become a leader
in the future. The trait theory of leadership is due to some traits, leader is different from others. It
can separate into five key factors: neuroticism, extraversion, openness to experience,
agreeableness, and conscientiousness. The study shows that extraversion, openness to
experience, and agreeableness were significantly correlated with leadership. (Amy E. Colbert,
2012, P. 678) Extravert is more controlling and more willing to share ideas to contribute the
group so that he is more likely to be a leader. Openness to experience means it is creativeness and
different opinion and it usually contribute more in the group, lead to group success, and become a
leader. Agreeableness is the inclination to endure, cooperate, and believe. Workers who have these
personalities would be helpful to establish leadership. Besides traits are highly related to

South Korea s order of preference among the choices are:
1. unification under a democratic system,
2. peaceful unification
3. the status quo,
4. unification under a communist system.
What can be said about these four outcomes as they apply to the Prisoner s Dilemma? First, neither
North nor South Korea sees the status quo as the worst choice. Second, each side sees the
opponents most desired outcome as its worst possible outcome. Third, each side prefers a peaceful
unification to the status quo. And lastly, neither side prefers a peaceful unification to its own best
choice. The result of this is, as in the matrix in Figure 1 the preferred choice is the dominating
strategy for both North (B2 dominating B1) and South (A2 dominating A1). Specifically, North
Korea prefers a communist settlement of unification to either the status quo or a peaceful
unification. South Korea prefers a democratic settlement to either the status que or a peaceful
unification. Thus, the dilemma that faces both sides is: since neither side can have its own best
choice, they settle for the status quo. This is done in spite of the fact that the possibility of a
peaceful settlement to unification is exists (a peaceful unification) that might be better for both
sides than their own optimal choice. Neither side can choose collective interest over self interest
because they are forced to assume that the other will follow the

  • 3. Health Care For The Nigerian Society In many parts of the Nigerian society, the question of cost, willingness to pay and ability to pay are important determinants of access to and utilization of health care systems (Omololu, Okunola, Salami, 2012). The Nigerian people realized that many of their countries health care facilities were lacking the necessary resources and supplies to function sufficiently and effectively, despite the adoption of the core tenets of comprehensive primary health care in the 1980s. They needed to not only make health care delivery affordable but also accessible to their people. In response to this need, health Ministers from several African countries met and fashioned out strategies to accelerate and advance the delivery of the Primary health... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The overall goal of the initiative is to ensure access to affordable and essential health services for the majority of the Nigerian population, to restore consumer confidence through the improvement in the quality of services provided with emphasis on promoting the health of women and children (Uzochukwu, Onwujekwe, Akpala, 2004). Cost The Bamako Initiative promoted the idea of the user fee . This user fee idea advocated for cost sharing and community participation to increase the sustainability and quality of health care in Nigeria. It was proposed that the user fee would increase the resources available for health care and improve efficiency as well as equity to health care. The user fee basically meant that payment was due for health care at the point of services rendered. According to (source) the payments collected for health care services are referred to as the user fees. The ideals of user fees is quite variable and can include any combination of drug costs, medical material costs, entrance fees, and consultation fees. With the user fee implementation out of pocket costs varied for the type of health care service rendered. For ante natal care (ANC) services, patients were required to pay out of pocket for their cards, laboratory investigations and drugs (Uzochukwu, et al., 2004). For immunization such as the oral polio vaccine (OPV1) and measles vaccine, there was no out of pocket cost; the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Each morning she wakes up miles from home, homesick and scared. She is forced to beg for money for the brothel that she belongs to, and all of her earnings go straight to her master. Then, that night, about seven men come to the brothel. These men, some as old as fifty, often pay as little as two dollars to partake in sexual intercourse with these school aged children. The toddlers enslaved in the horrific sex trade are forever stripped of their purity, making human traffickinga major issue in present day Cambodia. Girls are abused and beaten regularly, and the government condones these actions as if they are not occurring. Currently, however, more and more respected organizations are helping with the fight against human trafficking, although the problem still heavily influences the country. To begin with, in Cambodia, human trafficking has been a pertinent problem for the past two decades, mainly because of myths, poverty, and traditions. In the country, a tradition often surfaces about men having a great desire to have sexual intercourse with those who are pure and young because it will remove all of their sins. The myth is that when men had sexual relationships with virgins, it would grant them luck and good health. For this reason, an abundance of pedophiles used to visit Cambodia because they knew that the country condoned prostitution (Pesta). Due to the myth and the command of pedophiles for prepubescent girls, brothels are targeting those younger and younger. Children as young as four are being sent into the sex trade, and prostitution has become a fixture of urban life in Cambodia ( The Face of ). Furthermore, visiting prostitutes has become a common and accepted male pastime [in the country] (Sidner). People with traditional values tend to go with the latter and often demonstrate their distaste with aggression. This lottery consists of the winner being stoned by the few hundred people in the village (314). In The Lottery , it is out of Tessie s control that she is selected for the lottery. Studies have found that music can reduce stress, aid relaxation, alleviate depression, and help store and recall information among other functions. William Congreve once stated that music has the charms to soothe the savage beast . Stress is reduced through music by decreasing the amount of the hormone cortisone released in the body. This can be applied to everyday life for stress relief (Music and Stress, 1998). Music therapy is a new intervention that uses music and musical activities for the purposes of altering behavior and enhancing the everyday existence of people with various types of emotional disturbance . People have been using forms of music therapy since the earliest recorded history. Egyptian priests spoke incantations that supposedly influenced women`s fertility. Hebrews and Greeks treated physical and mental illness with the playing of music. Zenocrates, Sarpander, and Arien, all of whom were Greeks, were the first to use music therapy as a regular practice. They employed harp music to ease the outbursts of people with mental illnesses (Shapiro, 1969). Nursing homes often hire music therapists. People are likely to feel depressed and grief stricken when moved away from their homes and families into a facility for strangers to take care of them. Music therapy helps to relieve grief and improve emotional tones and feelings (Shapiro, 1969).

Will the mistakes be left to suffer in silence or will that person submit to their fatalities in a humble manner? In the short story Transformation by Mary Shelley, the main character Guido recalls his life story and admits all the horrible mistakes he made, despite his shame and embarrassment. He s a young man who was desperately in love with Juliet; although he was an arrogant and selfish man who disregarded Juliet s feelings. Even after he realized he had lost Juliet forever, a dwarfconvinces him revenge is the adequate reaction. So, Guido trades his appearance and life for the Dwarf s riches. Guido believes that in order to exact revenge on Juliet and her father he needs money; the catch is this exchange will only last for three days. When he sees the Dwarf inside his own body, he realizes his own faults and his selfless act in response re paid his debt in the end. The moral lesson of Transformation by Mary Shelley is that making a mistakeis not the biggest issue; what you do once you realize where you went wrong is what matters. The author developed this moral through conflict and characterization. Mary Shelley use Guido s inside war as a conflict in her short storyTransformation to help support the moral lesson that making a mistake isn t what truly matters. Monopolies are always known to possess an exclusive control over its particular market and that gives them the sovereign authority to control the prices for its goods or services (Dictionary.com Unabridged (v1.1), 2006). Hence, they represent the market. They indeed have detrimental effects on consumer and social welfare. In this paper, section 1 will focus on the theory and economics of a monopoly. • 13. The Digital Music Industry Is Forever Evolving The digital music industry is forever evolving. The problem of piracy has been created when people began to illegally download music. Music should not be pirated. Piracy can be partially reduced by using various advertising messages encouraging students not to pirate. Music producers should be a given the right to their music. Producers and advertisingagencies can work hand in hand to fight the battle of music piracy. The majority of college students may see music piracy as nothing but a way to retrieve the new music they want to listen to but producers see it as much more than that. The problem with this is that college students download an estimated 1 billion songs a year (317).Piracy is defined as the unauthorized use of a copyrighted work of material. Producers work hard to produce their music. They try and sell their music in order to make a living. Pirating is illegal, but in this digital age, there are so many ways around it. Producers are having to work with advertising agencies to combat this illegal act from taking place. A study done by three professors from Syracuse and Marquette University looked at how this could take place. They came up with a creative way to solve this problem. The study showed a way to prevent piracy and how to keep college students from illegally downloading music. It is broken down in to the four phases of how the research was done. Survival in the 1700s on a deserted island is the same as survival on a desert island today witch I find interesting. Except Crusoe had access to firearms. Throughout his time on the island, he relies heavily on a fowling piece (and un rifled musket designed to use multiple round lead balls, this gave each ball less overall velocity, but it was designed to be used at close ranges similar to a shotgun) this gave him the biggest advantage on the island. I agree with McInally that colonialism and expansion of trade were some of the biggest themes of the novel. Defoe s was writing about what he knew and experienced. Also from the stories about the savageness and unforgiveness of the new world. The most important theme was the mastering of oneself and destiny before you can truly understand what is important to you and how you are going to live your life. • 17. Main Themes Of Dissatisfaction In The Mayor Of Casterbridge The Mayor of Casterbridge has two main themes. One theme is dissatisfaction, which is a main reason when the characters end relationships with each other. The other theme is the indelibility of the past. Some characters had long term effects when their past was learned by other characters. People were not forgiven for their past as easy in the early nineteenth as they are today. The author used these themes very well, for people to assert into their life. Dissatisfaction is very major in The Mayor of Casterbridge because many relationships are broken and mended in the book. Those characters are dissatisfied with their current state of being, so they move on to a different stage in their life, which can lead to other relationships being repaired. The author is teaching the readers to move on, if something in their life is dissatisfying them. One example of a character being dissatisfied is when Newson fakes his death because he knows Susan is not satisfied and wants to go back to Michael Henchard. Susan found out that she didn t have to stay with Newson, so she wanted to go back to Henchard. Susan became unpleasant to be around, and Newson knew she wanted to go back to Henchard. On page 288, in The Mayor of Casterbridge, Newson says Since I m here, here I ll bide, I thought to myself; twill be most kindness to her, now she s taken against me, to let her believe me lost; for, I thought while she supposes us both alive she ll be miserable; but if she thinks me dead she ll go back to him, and the child will have a home. Newson faked his death to satisfy Susan and bring happiness in her life. When Lucetta met Farfrae, she became dissatisfied with Henchard. To Lucetta, Farfrae was a younger and better version of Henchard. Lucetta was going to marry Henchard, but she knew that she should would not be happy with him. Lucetta also found out about Henchard s past, and she was dissatisfied with the way he treated his first wife. • 18. Environmental Problems Facing The Earth Patton, Cade AP Environmental Science The biggest environmental problem that faces Earth today is pollution. There are a bunch types of pollution on planet Earth but by far air pollution is the deadliest. Air pollution can inhibit the breathing of living organisms. Many major companies including Exxonmobil and Bp who are leading the air pollution race with a Exxonmobil averaging 39 million tons of emissions. These emissions are released into the air by the process of making gasoline and chemicals. The second biggest environmental problem Earth faces each year is the decrease of natural resources. When it comes to natural resources the depletion of fossil fuels and deforestation are destroying the planet. Deforestation is the removal of trees in a wide area to the point of where it s almost not a forest anymore. On the other hand the depletion of fossil fuels is scary because fossil fuels are a nonrenewable resource. They are nonrenewable because they are being used up faster than they are being created. And it can take up to millions of years for more fossil fuels to be created. And finally for my third pick of the biggest environmental problems facing the Earth is the depletion of its Ozone layer. • 19. Essay on Expand Ukraine’s Political Ambitions The month of November in Ukraine was interesting, to say the least. Politically, the Ukrainian President, Viktor Yanukovych attempts to reform amending bills, while also socially ignoring the decline in press freedom. However, a major noteworthy article appeared on the stands: Ukraine goes offshore. This article is probably one of the most important events that occurred in November, which discusses revenue lost on offshore taxschemes. As an attempt to electronically expand Ukraine s political ambitions, Viktor Yanukovych passed a recent bill early in November that will allow votes in the Parliament to be conducted by an electronic card (Ukrainian). If Yanukovych does not approve of the media associated with the press, he opposes the spreading of the ideas. Unfortunately, Yanukovych seems to acknowledge the fact that he will only allow production of news, journals, pictures, etc., if they portray the truth. The truth, in fact, is quite limited by the strict regulations Yanukovych orders Ukraine s networking companies to follow. As this issue is heightened by Yanukovych s disapproval and lack of understanding, I definitely am worried for the social state of the nation. As someone living in a free nation, I understand the social liberties that are given to a nation, and how it allows people to globalize their social understandings. Once Ukraine becomes socially deteriorated by Yanukovych s policies, Ukraine will suffer with various downfalls in freedom. I am a strong opponent to this ordeal for these reasons. As my children progressed through high school, I knew certain classes or clubs were involved with participating in food drives. Our house was one of the most targeted homes for quite some time as we live directly across the street from St. Michael s Elementary School which is where some of the organizations met. St. Cecilia s is also a school that requires wearing a uniform and, occasionally, the kids could have a free jeans day if each student brought in so many items for the food pantry and my children were no different than a lot of the others...they wanted to wear jeans so they would raid my pantry to take food to school. I did not really give it much thought at the time when I was pulling food from my pantry of how this small act of kindness would help others. I knew there was a need for the food otherwise the food drive would not take place. I was so naГЇve in my thought process at that time. The night that I helped sort food at the food pantry was a major eye opener. My role for the evening was to help supervise high school students, who were sorting through the food as a community service project. • 22. Hypothyroidism Essay Hypothyroidism is an affliction that results from the disruption of the effectiveness of the thyroid gland and its hormone secretion. According to Cabello and Wrutnia (1989), the thyroid is key in affecting growth hormone (GH), and in turn, body growth as a whole. As a part of the endocrine system, the thyroidgland is responsive to the pituitary gland through the delivery of thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), and the pituitary gland is responsive to the hypothalamus s messenger, thyroid regulating hormone (TRH). When cells called thyroid gland follicles are underactive, both growth and overall development can be affected. Additionally, removal of the pituitary has been a method employed by endocrinologists to induce hypothyroidism. Shakespeare created the character of Iago in a complex way that made critics differ when interpreting the role he played in the Othello drama. A.C. There is a still a major price difference D.C. and Delhi. One dollar will pay for much less stuff in America than its equivalent in rupees will buy in India. Power And Control In William Shakespeare s The Tempest In William Shakespeare s romantic comedy play, The Tempest, we witness an endless amount of power struggles and scheming amongst characters, all in the hopes of achieving one thing: complete control over the remote island in which they re stranded on. Throughout the play, characters choose their allies, set targets on their enemies, and manipulate situations and one another in an attempt to reach their end goals. Each character that strives to colonize the island has different motives based on their place in the social hierarchy and their relationships to fellow characters. However, each character seeking control over the island not only has their own motives, but also their own vision for what the island could be under their sole jurisdiction. The three main players seeking to colonize the island and make their own vision of what it could be into a reality are Prospero, Caliban, and Gonzalo. Between these three characters we see relationships between the colonizer, the colonized, and one character who envisions the island as an opportunity to create the perfect society. Power and control are prominent themes in Shakespeare s The Tempest, as the audience is faced with severe questions of morality and who has rightful claim of the island. The New Leader Integration Process The book, Before Onboarding, illustrates a productive way to hire and retain quality candidates for executive positions in a cost effective and efficient way (Burroughs, 2011). Moreover, the book explains ways to improve the transition of the new leader, whether he or she is an internal transfer or an outside executive. Regardless of where the new leader originated, internal or external, the process is fundamentally the same and it consists of 6 distinct steps (Burroughs, 2011). The New Leader Integration process is first explained to the prospective new hire and the mutual benefit for both the new leader and the organization is explained. Primarily, a set of interviews are conducted with the bosses, peers and direct reports with all the answers to the questions kept confidential (Burroughs, 2011). In addition, interviews may be added to include large customers, suppliers and trustees if needed. Once the 6 steps of the process are completed, the new executive should have the necessary knowledge of the organization, thereby improving his or her chance for success. The benefit of using the New Leader Initiative as a means to hire the best leader for the organization is based on a concept described as the Leadership Pipeline (Ram Charan, 2001). Analysis Of Chickamagua By Ambrose Bierce In the short story Chickamagua written by Ambrose Bierce, the author follows a young six year old boy with no name and a hearing and speech impediment s journey throughout the mist of an ongoing dreadful war. Ambrose describes and narrates the story in an omniscient third person view, which is important to note because he is partially influenced by his own experiences of war; specially the Civil War. The central idea and theme being portrayed in this story is how the destruction and chaos of war destroys this young adolescence s innocence by being introduced to war first hand. To characterize and depict this, Ambrose uses literary elements such as imagery and symbolism to further his points. He really wants to drive home how this boy s romanticism for war can be turned upside down, especially when directly affected by war. Ambrose puts the boy s disconnection with reality into perspective by initially describing him as a child [who] strayed away from its rude home in a small field and entered a forest unobserved and as someone who in bodies his ancestors thirst for discovery and conquest , alluding to the fact that he is carelessly determined to explore (405). This irresponsible and carefree attitude sets the tone for how the boy responds to war first hand. Three major factors that affect global politics today include free ridership, groupthink, and shadow of the past. These are problems that are central to scholars of I.R., and serve as obstacles to achieving cooperation among countries. To better understand the impact of these issues, it will be necessary to assess why each is important, and the theories that offer the best explanations of their presence. By analyzing these aspects, reaching possible solutions will be much more attainable and the more clear it will become as to how these problems are interconnected with each other. Nearly interchangeable to the term freeloader, free ridership occurs when people take advantage of something without contributing any amount of work themselves. Every I.R. scholar is familiar with this term as well as is familiar with the problems it can produce in the international arena. One of the most clearly seen examples of free ridership is the environment. God to the people of the big three monotheist religions (Judaism, Christianity, Islam) see god as an all knowing, all seeing, and all powerful being. I believe that that the Cosmological argument gives good reason to believe in the existence of God. The Cosmological argument focuses on everything having a cause except one thing that started it all, this starter is known as the Prime Mover . The Prime Mover is the one that starts everything without anything having a previous effect on it. With that people have assumed that the logical answer to who the prime mover is, is God. This to me seems the most logical of arguments because although there is the idea of eternity and an eternal cycle there has to be a starting point. I do not believe the argument is successful. The reason that the argument does not succeed is because what proof is there that the prime mover is an all powerful all mighty being? There could be alternate reasons related to science, The Big Bang Theory, which could also be a reason. One of Aquinas s arguments against the cosmological argument discussed that since everything in nature had a time where it did not exist there had to be a time where it was nothing to bring anything into being. His argument was if this was possible there was nothing around to bring the universe into being in the first place. Due to this a being such as God is not likely to have existed before to create it. • 40. The Revolution Of Modernism And The Mesopotamian Architecture A building is designed for functionality. This principle has served as the cornerstone of architecture in the United States and throughout the world since the first hut of the Mesopotamian civilization. As the centuries go by, this principle started to deviate. With a series of political debris left over from the World War II, the Cold War and the revitalizing economic policies of the Reagan Era, Canadian American architect Frank Gehry was able to shatter the established architectural norm of the modern era and pen an iconoclastic style called deconstructivism in the postmodern 1980s, leaving a resounding legacy in the architectureindustry. The social and political debris remaining by the end of World War II and the Cold War stifled the possibility of a new architectural movement. The revolution of modernism, a form of architecture in which function dictated form, in the postwar decades turned into a routinized corporation that headed towards unpromising directions as it instigated the diminishment of architectural meaning and artistic expression. ... The house retained its essence as a perpetual construction site, exemplifying Gehry s contradictory mixture of the ordinary and the avant garde. Combining modernist form making with common materials, he had the courage to exploit the implicit freedom of the American middle class neighborhood. This method became a first in the United States and caught the attention of critics. In spite of the first evidence of an imminent prominence, Gehry had to hone the power of architecture to counter the forces of capital; otherwise, its capacity to sustain any critical role could be largely ... • 41. Essay On Mexican American War Today, the Mexican American War is still a widely argued topic of controversy with Mexico and America. But now, this hot topic of controversy can be put to rest. Was the U.S. justified in going to war with Mexico? The United States was justified in going to war with Mexico because Texas had been free and wanted to be annexed into the U.S., Mexicoattacked U.S troops, and Mexico let U.S citizens in. Before this whole war started, Mexico had won its independence from Spain in 1821., Shortly after in 1830, an American named Stephen Austin went to Texasfor a huge piece of land. He then brought 10,000 Anglos, or white people, into Texas because it was his end of the bargain. After that, the Mexican government put tighter control on Texas, and also enforced laws the Anglos in Texas did not believe were right. Just like the American Revolution, a rebellion started in 1833. In 1836, a Spanish fort that was turned into a base for the Texan rebellion, called the Alamo, was attacked. All of the Texan fighters were killed. That devastating loss somehow helped Texas to win the next war, and gain its independence. (Roden 269) Shortly after, Texas was annexed into the United Statesof... More specific stains seek to answer other questions specific to the patient s condition. For example, an Iron stain may be required in a patient who underwent a liver biopsy looking for a disease such as Hemochromatosis or other iron storage condition. Other types of special stains may be necessary to examine the tissue for infection. An example would be in a lung biopsy where the patient may have a fungus infection such as Aspergillous. A special stain of PAS /Light Green may be utilized to bring out the fungus if present which may not be evident on routine H E stains. In the 21st century, molecular markers are currently in vogue. Breast cancer requires a number of immunohistochemical markers such as Estrogen and Progesterone. These special stains are looking for the antibody to Estrogen or Progresterone in the patient s breast cancer tissue. If this is present, the Oncologist may treat the patient with certain drugs like Tamoxifin. Herceptin may be used in patient s who have a positive Her2neu antibody. This may be measured by standard immunohistochemistry as in Estrogen or Progesterone measurements. The alternative is to use a molecular testing to quantify the receptors of Her2neu receptors. The above simply illustrates in the most basic way a most complex topic utilizing whole tissue samples. Many times large tissue samples ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Emerging Therapies For Sickle Cell Anemia Emerging therapies for sickle cell anemia Cesi Salmeron Suny Rockland Community College Abstract Sickle cell anemia (SCA) is an inherited disorder that produces sickle or crescent shape red blood cells. Thus, the mutated erythrocytes result in an inadequate supply of oxygen being transported throughout the body. Research shows that among those affected the most with the sickle cell gene are African Americans. In recent years, we have seen a decrease in mortality and morbidity rates as a result of new approaches to treating the disease. The more we understand the pathophysiology of sickle cell anemia, the more we learn about developing therapies for genetic disorders such as SCA. In this paper, we will briefly discuss what sickle cell anemia is and possible treatments for people with sickle cell anemia such as gene therapy and new drugs. What is sickle cell anemia? Sickle cell anemia (SCA) is an autosomal recessive genetic disorder. This missense mutation is characterized by mutant beta globin subunits that tend to stick together (Cummings, 2014). As a result, abnormally shaped red blood cells are produced by this disorder. The erythrocytes are sickle or crescent shaped. Sickling occurs under hypoxic conditions, in which there is insufficient supply of oxygen delivered throughout the body (Sun Xia, 2013). In order to inherit this monogenic disease, one copy of the sickle globin gene from each parent must be passed on to the offspring (Ashley Koch, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

South Korea s order of preference among the choices are: 1. unification under a democratic system, 2. peaceful unification 3. the status quo, 4. unification under a communist system. What can be said about these four outcomes as they apply to the Prisoner s Dilemma? First, neither North nor South Korea sees the status quo as the worst choice. Second, each side sees the opponents most desired outcome as its worst possible outcome. Third, each side prefers a peaceful unification to the status quo. And lastly, neither side prefers a peaceful unification to its own best choice. The result of this is, as in the matrix in Figure 1 the preferred choice is the dominating strategy for both North (B2 dominating B1) and South (A2 dominating A1). Specifically, North Korea prefers a communist settlement of unification to either the status quo or a peaceful unification. South Korea prefers a democratic settlement to either the status que or a peaceful unification. Thus, the dilemma that faces both sides is: since neither side can have its own best choice, they settle for the status quo.
