Glorified Gladiators
Audience Purpose:
This report is meant to address the need for the neuroscience community to focus more on the socio
and psychological desire for violent sports, such as the National Football League (NFL) and the
historical evidence of social appeal that dates back to ancient Rome. Introduction:
The study of Rome presents an opportunity to relate the past to the present, and analyze how
social behaviors have prevailed overtime through sport. Although sent to their death within the
arena, the ancient public of Rome glorified gladiators. They supplied an outlet for the public to
visually glorify war and violence, while being able to choose a desired hero to root for. Similarly,
the professional football players who play in the NFL ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

was known as being the indestructible force of four Super Bowl champions, the center of gravity
of the Steeler dynasty, and as former Steeler quarterback Terry Bradshawcalled him, our strength,
(League of Denial 4). What for years was not widely known to the public though was that of his
declining mental status. After years of hard hits, and minimal medical treatment or examinations,
Webster would finally seen by a forensic psychiatrist at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center

medical certainty that Mr. Weber s progressive deteriorating encephalopathy began while he was

Process Of Punishment Dbq
Once the accused was convicted of his crime, the court moved into the punishment phase.
Interestingly enough, the process of deciding punishment was quite a flawed one. The reason for
this was that most people s perceptions of criminals in the beginning and mid 1800s was that
they were people of the working class who were too lazy to work (Emsley). This led to a bias in
which working class people seemed to be receiving harsher punishments than any other class except
one (Emsley). Although rare, if a womanwas convicted of a crime, they would receive some of the
harshest punishments (Victorian Crime) The reason for this was because it was perceived as
unladylike as Not only had they transgressed the law, they transgressed perceptions of womanhood,

Argument Against Conscription In Australia
Conscription was a highly divisive issue in the newly formed country of Australia for multiple
reasons. These include the fact that there were many pros and cons to the issue, two plebiscites
had been rejected by the public and that the public had very split views on the subject (The
Australian War memorial, 2018). It is unlikely that people today will ever be able to come to a
conclusion as to whether or not conscriptionwas a good idea for Australia and its people as the
effectiveness of war is still a highly debated subject in the modern world. It can be hypothesised
that conscription was a highly divisive issue due to Australians split views on the subject.
During the start of the war, lots of young Australian men enlisted into the... Show more content on

During the two plebiscites, posters advertising the negatives of conscription were abundant. Most
of the posters contained words such as death and blood (see fig 6 and fig 7). This highlighted the
consequences of conscription, particularly of the death toll. Furthermore, the use of small children
was used to appeal to emotion, and give people a visual of the toll that conscription would take on
those who stayed (see fig 8). Overall, those against conscription used propaganda posters to
advertise their cause, much like those who were for

Stereotypes In Once Were Warriors
There are many restrictions and limitations that what the Heke family can do. We all get insight
in some of the children in their family and what choices they made in the movie Once Were
Warriors . We first learn about Nig, who is the oldest son in the family. In the movie, he decided to
join a gang, who used MДЃori tattoos to represent the MДЃori culture. Although he was against the
tattoos at first, he did not want to disrespect the gang and their MДЃori culture, so he went along
and decided to get the same tattoo that they have. We then learn about Mark, who goes by Boogie

We also learn a lot about Grace, who is the oldest daughter of the Heke family. She usually hangs
out with a boy named Toot, who is homeless. Throughout the movie, we learn that her uncle
rapes her when she was young. She was deeply depressed of this incident and turns to drugs and
later she committed suicide by hanging herself on a tree. There are two more children, Polly and
Huata, however, we do not learn much about them.We learn about Beth who is the mother of the
five children and she disapproves of how her husband Jake is raising her children. At the end of
the movie, she had an argument at the bar with her husband about how he raised his children, and
she decides that the best thing is to do is to bring her 4 living children back to the MДЃori village
to get away from his abusive behavior. Throughout the story, all the characters go through a lot of
abuse and pain, even the father, Jake. Jake believes that beating people up will get his point across.
However, there is this one moment that he really felt hurt about what happened to his daughter, and

Moving To Mexico Research Paper
Imagine waking up to a beautiful view every day, without a care in the world about the expenses
of life, but instead enjoying the perfect weather that makes life just that easier. This would be the
perfect description for the beautiful land of Mexico, that has proven itself to be one of the finest
places to live in. This country would be one of the top three locations people would consider
moving to when they no longer find their way of living in their country to be worthwhile. They are
not only attracted to the great climate, but the affordable cost of living and job opportunities that

On the website Expat Info Desk, an article titled Living in Mexico: A Guide to Moving to
Mexico as an Expat gives people who are considering moving from their country a gist of what it
is like to live in Mexico. Allegedly, one of the most beneficial factors in moving to Mexico is the
difference in currency, that allows middle class Americans to enjoy a high standard of living
with lower prices for basic necessities such as grocery items (Living in Mexico). The drastic
difference between a US Dollar and a Mexican Peso allow young families to adapt to the lifestyle
in Mexico easily with only a small amount of saved up money. Another factor that families focus
on when moving is what city to settle in and how expensive housing will be in those locations.
Although places like Mexico City are far more expensive than other towns and cities, for the most
part housing in Mexico is relatively cheap, in comparison making moderately sized properties the
same amount as a small clustered property in the United States (Living in Mexico). This alone
becomes specifically beneficial to Americans who never get to enjoy luxury time to themselves,
or work all day throughout the week to live a barely lived life, which could all change by moving
to a new country. Not only is moving to Mexico a stable place to start a new life, but a constant
vacation with all of the easily accessible beaches and tourist attractions to some of the most

that quickly broke apart after his death. The lands were divided by each of his generals, general
Ptolemy acquired Egypt, which became known as Ptolemaic, general Seleucus acquired from the

establishing the Antigonid. Governing of these lands did not differ much, citizens grew their own

the cities ate fancier foods, drank fancier wine, and did business with others who were quite

Notes On Productivity And Performance Management
Introduction
In Unit 3 you will review Chapter 6 Productivity and Performance Management, and Chapter 7
Operational Metrics in health Care. Productivity and performance management is important for
healthcare managers as this will ensure the healthcare organization or department is more cost
effective and efficient over time. This is done by reducing costs, eliminating waste, and ensuring
efficiency in use of resources. The main focus of productivity management is the ratio of outputs to
inputs. The single and multifactor productivity ratios can be calculated to understand the
relationship between outputs and inputs. Labor staffing models should be used to align volume or
demand with resources. Internal consistent measuring and applying them over the long term will
show how a manager added value and a positive effect on the business operations. Operations
metrics is very useful from a production perspective in that you can monitor units per input per
units of output. From the clinical perspective care managers can quickly access clinical performance
against industry benchmark or an internal baseline value. In order to get a better understanding, let
s discuss metric driven performance improvement and databases that supports it.
Using Metrics for Performance Improvement
Surviving in the healthcare industry is no easy task. Part of staying afloat is improving
performance continually. To do so there needs to be a measurable goal, a timeline to achieve it, and

Apple Is An Extremely Reputable Company
Apple is an extremely reputable company with many great technologies that many people
throughout the world enjoy. They have advanced quite a bit since their beginning Macintosh
computers a long time ago, and now sell smartphones and tablets, along with their own programs
and software. Apple offers purchases on their devices through their programs such as iTunes and
the App Store, however they always required a passwordin order to buy the product. One of their
slightly new programs, iCloud, offers more freedom when trying to access stored data and
passwords. With iCloud, everything a userinputs on their Apple device gets stored into the cloud,
something that has become very popular even outside of Apple. With all of this personal data
floating around, privacy and security questions begin to rise, and especially when certain
incidents happen that stirs and worries everybody up. Apple s iCloud software, while
conveniently storing and sharing data, has been proven to be accessible by unwanted third parties.
To hack into user s accounts can be very simple through techniques like manipulating usernames
and passwords through brute force or finding the IP address of the device that accessed the cloud.
While these may all seem like difficult things to accomplish to any basic user of Apple s
technology, there are some that have the skill to breach and gain whatever they wish. Internet

Essay On Civil War Women
Women in the U.S. Civil War
Up until the U.S. Civil war women were focused on making their homes a private and comfortable
place for their families (History.com Staff). However the coming war would push women into the
public eye with lots of women joining volunteer brigades and working as nurses. This was the first
time in American history Women played such an important part in the war effort (History.com
Staff).
On July 4, 1861, the women of Maryland wrote a letter to Lieut. Gen. Scott titled An Appeal for
Peace. In this document the women of Maryland, a border state, wanted to maintain the peace
between the north and the south (Women of Maryland). The women of Maryland saw what was on
the horizon and wanted to do everything they could to stop the coming war. When that did not work
they threw themselves into the war effort to help any way they could.
The women of the north, wanting to be more involved, started to set up ladies aid societies that
would gather supplies and distribute them to the soldiers. Many became nurses wanting to help
closer to the front lines. In June 1861 the Federal Government agreed to create the United States
Sanitary Commission. This commission was dedicated to the prevention of disease due to by

Internal Struggles In Hamlet
Internal Struggles One unavoidable aspect of our everyday lives is struggling. It is experienced
by people everywhere. No one person will struggle the same way as another person. A majority
of people have their own inner battles they fight in their day to day lives. It is something that
people need to experience and deal with in order to grow as a person. Prime examples of the
different ways people struggle within can be seen in the main characters of Hamlet by William
Shakespeare, and The Old Man and The Sea by Ernest Hemingway. In both Hamlet and The Old
Man and The Sea, the main characters face numerous internal struggles, they have different effects

Like Santiago, Hamlet also faces multiple internal struggles. The first struggle identified is Hamlet
s mother Gertrude, remarried so soon after his father s death. Not only that, but the man she
remarried is his uncle Claudius. Hamlet feels betrayed by his mother and struggles to keep his
feelings about the situation under control. Hamlet also struggles with the major news he learns
from his father s ghost; his brother Claudius murdered him. After learning this, Hamlet struggles
with himself and his morals, believing that he must avenge his father s death, but keeps finding
reasons not too. To be, or not to be: that is the question:/Whether tis nobler in the mind to
suffer...The fair Ophelia! Nymph, in thy orisons/Be all my sins remember d (Shakespeare III, i, 56

finds that what stands in the way of it, and counterbalances its infinite attraction, is not any thought
of a sacred unaccomplished duty, but the doubt, quite irrelevant to that issue, whether it is not
ignoble in the mind to end its misery, and, still more, whether death would end it (Bradley 139).
This is a result of all the struggles he has endured over this short period of time. It has taken a great
toll on Hamlet s mental stability, causing him to have these types of thoughts. Despite this, Hamlet
does not let his struggles

FUNKY SUNGLASSES the accessory that s always been practical and fashionable
The earliest historical reference to sunglasses dates back to ancient China and Rome. The Roman
emperor Nero watched gladiator fights through polished gems. In China, sunglasses were used in
the 12th century or possibly earlier. These sunglasses were made out of lenses that were flat panes
of smoky quartz. They offered no corrective powers nor did they protect from harmful UV rays,
but did protect the eyes from glare.
In prehistoric and historic time, members of various Eskimoan peoples wore flattened walrus ivory
glasses, looking through narrow slits to block harmful reflected rays of the sun.
Modern civilization began experimenting with tinted lenses in spectacles around 1752. There was
belief that blue or green tinted glass could potentially correct specific vision impairments.
Protection from the sun s rays was not a concern at this time. Glasses tinted with yellow amber and
brown were also a commonly prescribed item for people with syphilis in the 19th and early 20th
century because one of the symptoms of the disease was sensitivity to light.
In the early 1900s sunglasses became more widespread, especially among movie stars. Famous

Teaching Methods and Student Achievent
Introduction There are many views on how to educate children of the 21st century. Today s
education world is focused on student achievement based on standardized test scores. Each year,
teachers, districts, and states participate in state testing which shows progress toward a common
goal per state, proficiency in academic core content. However, these standardized tests vary from
state to state and examined at the national level. Therefore, the level of accuracy cannot be
determined as to which states, school districts, and school sites are making great strides to close
the achievement gap. Effective teachers are closing the gap by using a variety of strategies and
methods in the classroom.
Statement of the Problem Since the adoption of the No Child Left Behind laws of 2002 states,
school districts, and teachers have been on a mission to find ways to make instruction and learning
meaningful to students while meeting the goals set forth by the national and state legislatures while
closing the achievement gap and making sure students are successful. Over the years, many new
trends as to how to close the achievement gap have flourished. With these trends come numerous
amounts of research proving why a particular new teaching methodology is going to work over
another; states, school districts, and school sites are at the mercy of these trends to help close the
gap to meet the national educational goal of all students must be successful in school. The notion

Racial Inequality And Gender Inequality
In today s world discrimination is a racial inequality when it come to different races in the
United states. Discrimination has been around for years and have created a social inequality ,
economic crises and have lowered individuals into a group known as the racial minorities .Racial
minorities can be classified as older people , women , immigrants and young men and women.
Women from the early 1600 s to today s women have been discriminated against for years. Women
have never had the same respect as men so, they had to earn respect by stepping up for their rights.
Women have made it clear in modern society, that we have the ability to perform equal skills and
become success in virtually every endeavor engaged in by men including, employment, athletes,
academics and politics.Yet we have discriminationon the basis of racial inequality which has a long
history in United States
.Inequalities in the Unites States have singled out elderly people by not helping the older
people be apart of today s society meaning, we do not hire older people after a certain age because
we think they are not capable of working. We look at elderly as people to be retired, stay home,
and very sickly. Roscigno studies show some older workers are terminated just before their
pensions are set to kick in or increase. This type of firing profoundly affects older workers job

Examples Of Sorrow In A Mercy
Sorrow: suffering from loss or afflliction; feeling grief, sadness, or regret. Everyone has

speech throughout the book helps show Sorrow s dynamism into someone different, letting the
audience learn that not everyone is who they always seem to be. In the novel, Sorrow is presented

moisture and light as well as from air and high temperatures. When stored properly, whole
coriander can keep for as long as a year and ground coriander can keep for two to six months.

Heat speeds up chemical reactions and can speed up the rate at which volatile compounds
evaporate. A higher temperature is likely to result in the evaporation of the coriander s volatile
oils, which means that it will lose its pungency. Store in a Dark Location
Light can cause photodegradation, which may result in your coriander losing flavor and aroma. To
prevent this, you should store the spice in opaque containers. Storing Coriander in the Refrigerator
If you decide to store your coriander in the refrigerator, be aware of the problem of moisture.
Moisture is the enemy of most ground spices, including coriander and is one of the reasons that
your containers should be airtight. Exposure to excessive humidity can cause ground coriander to
clump and to lose its flavor and aroma faster. As a result, it is strongly recommended that you do
not store coriander for regular use in the refrigerator or in the freezer. Removing the container from
the cold environment and opening it can result in condensation forming on the interior of the spice
container, which means that your spices will be exposed to

Casey Anthony
Introduction
The idea of free is opposed by that of determinism which, in simplest form, holds that every event
has a cause. Id determinism is correct, then nothing happen that is not caused to happen by some
other event, condition, or set of events and/or conditions and this includes every thought and
feeling we have, every choice we make, and every action we take. The logic of this idea is, for
many people, less of a problem than its moral and legal implications. Not only does free will
become limited (if not eliminated) under determinism, so too does moral responsibility or
culpability (Ethics, Crime, and Criminal Justice). Casey Anthony was free found not guilty when in
reality there are evidence that she killed her daughter, Caylee. ... Show more content on

Women s role in society has made tremendous steps towards equality since previous times.
However, dependency on male figures has prohibited this process from happening faster. Two
examples of this process are Michelle Obama and Ophelia from Hamlet. When an individual

risk of vulnerability. Michelle Obama is a powerful figure in the feminist world. While she is co

Economic development planning has increasingly become vital to the health of local economies in
the globalized economy. Local officials are tasked with balancing present day issues surrounding
local economies, as well as attempting to project where the local, state, regional, national and world

In class, we have discussed the challenges that are faced by economic development planners. SWOT

sustained development can occur without wasting tax payer funds. In the case of Salt Lake City,
planners have ben able to leverage the skilled workforce being educated at institutions like Brigham

government has abandoned federal economic development programs, it is still an essential element
for states and cities who wish to see continued health and development. A variety of programs,
including property tax incentives and focusing on educating, attracting and retaining highly skilled
workers through high quality of life programs, are essential in the globalized, highly competitive

Quality Management Using Six Sigma
Quality Management Using Six Sigma Over the last thirty years, the views on quality management
shifting from a focus on product inspection and problem identification to the theme that product
quality is determined by the process used to produce the product (Jayaraman, Kannabiran, Kumar,
2013; Kerzner, 2013). As a result many quality/process improvement initiatives and methodologies
have been developed over the last few decades; one such methodology is known as Six Sigmaand
has become the most popular of the quality improvement initiatives (Ismyrlis Moschidis, 2013).
This paper will provide a brief overview of Six Sigma along with an explanation of the DMAIC
methodology. The paper will present an example from the author s workplace in software
engineering to illustrate effective application of the DMAIC process.
Six Sigma Overview As explained by Kumar and Kaushish (2015), Six Sigma is a disciplined
data driven approach and methodology for eliminating defects in any process (p. 7). Six Sigma
stresses the reduction of variation within processes by identifying and eliminating the root
causes of defects (Jayaraman et al., 2013; Kerzner, 2013; Kumar Kaushish, 2015). The goal of Six
Sigma is to get as close to zero defects as possible. The term Six Sigma comes from the Greek letter
Пѓ (sigma) which in statistics represents one standard deviation (Ismyrlis Moschidis, 2013; Kumar
Kaushish, 2015; MДѓdДѓlina, 2014). Six Sigma, or six standard deviations, yields a

went viral quickly since the day of the announcement. After one year of operation, QQ Speed

however, Tencent Games received a subpoena from NEXON (a Korean game company who

Native American Photography Essay
Pictures often have several different angles and meanings behind their reason for being taken.
In this case these photos of Native Americans can be looked at and examined with several
benefits and a few drawbacks as well. The benefit I see would be the timeless history captured in
these moments, a shot in the past of a civilization still fresh and full of life that we as Americans
now will never see again. However, there are many different sides to every story and many angles
to every camera, Companies like the Great Northern Railroad often manipulate the scene (pg.34).
This is an example of using the great Native American people as propaganda and abusing their
culture by putting a fake image in the media and displaying it as something that it wasn t at the

Aren t they Christian? My honest answer is no, Mormons follow a counterfeit Christ who can t

Gospel actually turns it in into something that stands in the face of, contrasting, the good news of
Jesus. For Mormons to truly follow Jesus they need to un restore their Gospel of Jesus.
The second thing I m writing you about is to let you know that this will not be my last time
asking you to partner with me in ministry. Throughout my 20s, I see myself going on many other
missions trips and taking on other ministries that could not pay well or at all all for the sake of

Quebec Nationalism And Quebec Secessionism
It is crucial to understand the population of Quebec in terms of how likely certain demographics
are to support sovereignty. Duchesne, Eagle, and Erfle (2003) note that constituencies with a high
percentage of young adults are very likely to be in favour or Quebec secessionism. This may be
due to the fact that young voters provide an effective backing for the nationalist cause in the
province (Duchesne, Eagle, Erfle, 2003, p. 652), especially as nationalist and alt right movements
are becoming widespread in various regions around the world where political tensions are high,
such as Quebec, Alberta, and many areas in the United States. Additionally, ridings with high
numbers of voters over the age of 65 are also likely to support sovereignty and parties such as the
Bloc Quebecois (Lublin Voss, 2002). That is, these individuals directly experienced the surge in
confidence and economic advancement that the Quiet Revolution and the referendums brought to
the province (Lublin Voss, 2002). Further, Lublin and Voss (2002) argue that individuals from
Quebec who grew up in an era during which sovereignty was widely discussed as a viable and
legitimate option ... support sovereignty and the BQ (p. 94). Overall, support for Quebec
sovereignty is not divided amongst age groups, allowing Quebec regionalism to survive within
various generations, thus the sovereignty movement continues to exist with young people in the
present and in future political shifts in secessionist

An Analysis Of Alexandre Dumas Davy De La Pailleterie
Alexandre Dumas Alexandre Dumas Davy de la Pailleterie, the author of The Three Musketeers,
was born in Villers Cotterets, France on July 24, 1802. His father, also named Alexandre
Dumas, was a general in Napoleon s army. When the author was only four years old, his father

Davy de la Pailleterie. He went a private school for a short period of time before he started
teaching himself and becoming homeschooled. In 1823, he moved to Paris, where he was able to
obtain a comfortable job as a clerk for the Duke of Orleans. By this time, he had developed

Almost all of his renowned books were collaborations with other writers, primarily Auguste Maquet.
Their works included The Three Musketeers and The Count of Monte Cristo. These novels were
initially broken down into serials in magazines instead of complete books. Because of all his
successes with his novels, the 1840s were the apex of his finances, and he was able to build a
luxurious estate.
Although Dumas created some of the best known plays and novels in the world, he suffered
from many setbacks which ultimately led to his death. He created a controversial, yet popular
play in 1832 called The Tower of Nesle. The play depicted many of the vices of the preceding
king and was disliked by the new king, Louis Philippe. As a result, the author was exiled from
France for a short period of time. He suffered from bankruptcy from wasting too much money on
his estate and giving lavish gifts to women. He escaped his creditors by fleeing to Brussels.
After he returned to Paris, he worked tirelessly to pay his debts. He created two newspaper
companies, which survived about three years each. Then, he had to retreat to first son s home in
1870 because of the Prussian occupation of Paris in the Franco Prussian War. He died two years
later in poverty and declining spirits on December fifth at seventy years old (DISCovering Authors).

Critical Issues Paper Of Testing Equality
Critical Issues Paper of Testing Equality
Megan Randle
University of North Texas
The diagnosis of students of autism brings long term effects that can increase the functionality of
the child s life. As we know, early diagnosis is key producing long term effects whenever families
and parents are diligent in getting their children help. Throughout the diagnosis process, it is
imperative to take every element into account. Considerations such as race, culture, and
socioeconomic status may affect the validity and reliability of the test. Although the test can be
administered exactly as it should be, there are many different characteristics of the child in their
upbringing that can affect the outcome of the results.
Whether a diagnosis of autism, or diagnosis of another disability is to be made, interventions can
be developed to add the child s tool belt on their waist of life. Research shows that the early
intervention can highly impact the likelihood of success (Krader, 2014). The American Academy of
pediatric tells us that the diagnosis procedure should start in children between 18 and 24 months.
With the essential screening process, recommendations can be used to begin intervention and start
the help that the child needs. As we have seen through research, not all children receive testing that
proves equality (Krader, 2014).
Beginning diagnosis and testing process can be very intimidating to the parents, especially if this is
their first

Essay on Unbearable Lightness of being
A touching and sad novel, at once a compelling love story, philosophical text, and dialogue with
Frederich Nietzsche The Unbearable Lightness of Being is all of these and more, perhaps most
importantly a manifesto of embracing nihilism. Milan Kundera opens the novel with a discourse
on Nietzsche s doctrine of the eternal recurrence. He rejects any view of the recurrence as being
real or metaphysical. It is metaphorical he assures us. In a world of objective meaninglessness one
must fall into nihilism unless one acts as if one s acts recur eternally, thus giving our acts
quot;weight, quot; the weight of those choices we make, as though recurring eternally, living
forever. Kundera rejects Nietzsche s optimism and in compelling detail... Show more content on

Tomas follows in a few days, knowing that somehow this is crazy and he is condemning himself
to misery, but he must go, it is his fate and he returns. In a second incident he had published a
letter to the editor in a newspaper which explored the notion of being responsible for acts
whether or not one KNEW the outcome. His model case was Oedipus who had no idea he was
violating so many social and moral rules of his society. Tomas is speaking about those in
Czechoslovakia who acted in a similar manner toward the Russians. Later on this is taken as a
socially subversive point of view and he is asked to retract. For reasons he himself hardly
understands he refuses and his refusal causes him to be banned as a physician and condemned
to low level manual labor, first in Prague and later on a collective farm in a rural area. But even
these choice are more his fate than a choice of meaning. The notion of fate, or what Nietzsche
refers to as quot;amor fati quot; (love of fate) is the notion that nature somehow presents us with
situations which we cannot escape and we simply have to bear them. Tomas must accept and bear
his love for Tereza no matter how painful and hopeless. He must accept his Oedipus letter no matter
the consequences. Yet, even this acceptance cannot escape the ultimate quot;unbearable lightness
of being, quot; the meaninglessness of all our acts in a world in which our acts simply don t live
forever. Kundera says in the last pages of

Jungle Essay
The Jungle by Upton Sinclare was the novel I chose to read for this final section.
This book was 359 pages long with 31 chapter inside. From beginning to end, this book had detail
unlike any I have ever read in the past this year. The way this novel was structured was a one sided
view of how the industrial age was horrible to live in. Sinclare hated this time and used this book to
show how bad it really was.
Two very major character in the book happen to be a couple. There names are
Jurgis Rudkus and Ona Lukoszaite. The couple meet in Lithuania, where the book begins, and later

After her death many people grieve, one of them being Ona s stepmother.
Ona s stepmothers name is Elizbieta Lukoszaite. She is the link to the past. She is the one who
keeps the sense and morals to the whole family. Elizbieta is the one who insists on a tradition
wedding and a proper funeral. She is the one that keeps hope alive.
Another inspiration is Marija.
Marija Berczynskas is the one with the best bets of surviving in America. She has many great traits
that set her apart from the others. She is a leader and conqueror. But we come to find out that all
isn t what it seems to be.
The main setting in this book is in Chicago, Illinois between 1900 and 1904. Most of the book
takes place here. The setting of this city is a good one because Chicago is one of many place where
many immigrants went to when they came to this country. Another place where the book it told at
is Lithuania. Lithuania is where the families originate from.
There is where Jurgis falls in love with Ona and where Ona s father dies. In Lithuania is where the
decision was made to move to America in the first place.

Enterprise Resource Planning ( Erp ) Systems Attempt
Introduction
Enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems attempt to combine data and processes in
organizations. The data is centralized as a single database. This database functions as a hub that
stores, shares, and circulates data from within the different organizational units and business
functions. ERP systems are one of the most adopted information technology (IT) solutions in
organizations. Besides the possible cost savings, one of the main drivers for an ERP adoption
would be the technical and operation integration of business functions to complement the
information stream with the material flow of goods or services. In order for the management and

Analysis Of Colonialism By Walcott
Colonialism s initial assumption or rather a presumption was to create a civilised and ordered
world through establishing dominion over seemingly uncivilised and backwards countries. The
colonial enterprise was justified based on the prevalent discourses of savage and primitive
natives as reality was hidden due to a severe lack of historical narrative from the natives
themselves. The white man s burden is to care for indigenous people who are unable to survive.
This becomes a disguise for economic interests in colonisation. An important aspect of
colonisation was to discover new lands and territories in order to accumulate them in their world.
With the dawn of this age of discovery, new areas were found and the New World was formed. This

There is almost no romanticising of history as he depicts the bloody and gruesome truth behind
colonial repression. His poems become the tools to appropriate history and rewrite colonialism
from the perspective of the victims and not the colonisers. According to Walcott, colonialism
caused a separation or division of self in Caribbean writers who have to struggle with the questions
of identity. As Shara McCallum remarks:
A poem exposes and defines the moment that a particular consciousness and language meet; and
Walcott s poems tilt this moment of encounter toward the light in such a way that the gesture itself
and the resulting poem often reveal the prismatic nature of identity. (23)
Walcott admitted to being in a complex position of being stuck between a certain consciousness of
gratitude to the Western world for his cultural and intellectual learning and his allegiance to his
African lineage. This position is often represented in his work as it forms a hybrid identity for
him. Many critics call this the schizophrenic situation of Caribbean identity as they are in between
two drastically different cultures. In A Far Cry from Africa , Walcott overtly addresses his struggle
to concretise his idea of identity:

The Mammalian Reving Reflection Of The Blood Pressure
Conclusion
The mammalian dive response causes the blood pressure to increase, heart rate to decrease, and
oxygen intake to increase in individuals after they have been submerged in cold water. In this study,
after water hit the trigeminal nerve behind the nose, the diving reflex caused peripheral
vasoconstriction and bradycardia to occur in the subjects. The vasoconstriction caused the blood
pressure to increase as the body attempted to concentrate more blood around heart, lungs and brain.
The bradycardia was a result of the body attempting to conserve oxygen by (Pantennon,2013).
expand bradycardia This response allows mammals to stay underwater longer, and it helps to
extend that organisms life span by overriding other reflexes such as taking an immediate breath
when suddenly exposed to water. If a mammal lacks the diving response, then it I smore likely that
they may drown because of their body not being able to properly respond to the lack of oxygen.
The reactions observed could have also been the result of either the body preparing for hypothermia
or simply responding to the cold water shock. Cold water shock is the body s response to being
suddenly exposed to cold water. Cold water shock also causes vasoconstriction by causing the
blood vessels in the skin to close; both increase the resistance of blood flow which increases blood
pressure. However, cold water shock causes the heart rate to increase, not decrease, as the
mammalian dive response does. The sudden

Smoking was once the main way of preserving meat, but today, we now know that it is an ideal
way to cook and flavour meat. To obtain the desired flavour, though, you must understand which
type of firewood works best. While hickory wood is popular for this in some parts of the world, it
is extremely expensive here in Australia since we have to import it. One of the local favourites in
this country for flavourful meat smoking is red gum firewood.

Similar to hickory, red gum imparts a strong flavour into meat. We are not saying that it
overwhelms the meat, though, it just gives a meat a pleasant smokiness that is your goal when you

Essay On Patch Antenna
2 2 Microstrip Patch Antenna Array Fed by Substrate Integrated Waveguide
for Radar Applications
Chandan Baranwal, ME, BIT Mesra
Abstract A 2 2 microstrip patch antenna array fed by a sub strate integrated waveguide (SIW)
feeding network for 24 GHz radar applications is suggested in this paper. The microstrip patches
are aperture coupled with the feeding network comprising of a perpendicular coax to SIW transition
and two Y junction power dividers. The antennadesign is performed in the ANSYS HFSS using
finite element method for EM solutions and the procured results have been verified by
measurement in Lab. At the frequency 24.4 GHz, the prototype has a gain of 9.28 dBi.

In this paper, an AC MPA element fed by an SIW is used as a building block for the design of a
small antenna array. The proposed antenna combines the benefits of microstrip patch antennas with
the advantages of SIW technology. SIW is utilized in order to minimize transmission losses in the
feeding part. In addition, an SIW based feeding network does not radiate any spurious radiation that
could affect the radiation pattern of the antenna array. Therefore, any additional shielding of the
feeding part or the reflector is not required in comparison to the microstrip line feeding technique
for AC MPAs. The antenna array design is carried out for a 24 GHz radar system. The paper
presents the simulated and experimental results of the proposed antenna array.
II.ANTENNA ARRAY CONFIGURATION
The structure of the proposed antenna array is shown in Fig. 1. The antenna consists of 2 2
aperture coupled microstrip patch antennas fed by an SIW based feeding network. The in phase
uniform feeding for the array consists of three SIW based power dividers. The antenna array is fed
by a coaxial connector.
The configuration of a single AC MPA element used for the antenna array design is shown in Fig.

Taiwan Taxi Icall System
Executive Summary With its great success in Singapore, a GPS based system like the iCall
seemed like the perfect fit for Taiwan Taxi. The company had plans of expanding its membership
to 20,000 and believed the iCall would help it achieve this goal. Unfortunately, the iCall did not
bring the success that Taiwan Taxi hoped it would which left management questioning why the
system worked so well in one country and not the other. The answer to this lies in the cultural
differences and a lack of understanding of the Taiwan labor force that is currently working in the
taxi industry. In order to successfully implement the iCall in Taiwan, management needs to tie value
to the system in order to gain support from its employees and the... Show more content on

This negative perception of the iCall system is limiting Taiwan Taxi s ability to obtain more
subscribers and explains why the company is having difficulty reaching their goal of 20,000
members. This identifies a clear disconnect between management and the cab drivers. The
managers associate the iCall with direct value and make the assumption that the cabbies will do the
same. However, many cabbies have not figured out how to strategically utilize the technology to
increase proficiency and maximize profit.
Regulatory Differences In Singapore, the taxi industry was highly regulated and organized. Drivers
are required to hold a valid Taxi Driver s Vocational License which could be obtained after
completing their training course at the Singapore Taxi Academy and passing a theory test.
Comparatively, Taiwan drivers only need to pass a basic driving test to become a cabbie. This
difference in credentials shows the control and regulatory differences between the two cultures in
the taxi industry. As a result of the rules and regulations in Singapore and the lack of rules and
regulations in Taiwan, the regions gain two completely different types of taxi drivers. The
Singapore taxi industry acquires employees that are professional and dedicated to their job
because they see it as a career. The drivers there plan on staying in the profession for an extended
period of time. In Taiwan the lack of rules and regulation in obtaining professional licenses

Studies have even shown THC to have anti tumoral properties. And even if you have not, there is an
overwhelming wealth of facts all over the internet and even in news papers. Both the American
Cancer society and the American Medical Association support research trials to assess cannabiss
medical potential. Millions of Americans diagnosed with incurable and fatal diseases are using
marijuana to help ease their suffering. There are still others that aren t able to get help though
because their state forbids it, or they are too afraid of being caught by the federal government.
Although I admit that there are a lot of loop holes in this argument, I feel that I need to tell
everyone how far less dangerous marijuana is than already legal substances such as alcohol or
tobacco. Around 50,000 people die each year from alcohol poisoning. Similarly, more than 400,000
deaths each year are attributed to tobacco smoking. Someone would have to smoke over 1400
pounds of marijuana in less than 15 minutes to kill themselves which, needless to say, is impossible.
Everyone knows the detrimental effects smoking tobacco can have on the human body. And,
although fun, the consumption of alcohol doesn t really have any benefits either. Tobacco use leads
most commonly to diseases affecting the heart and lungs. A person that smokes puts themselves at
major risks for about a zillion deadly diseases including cancer and emphysema.

Glorified Gladiators Audience Purpose: This report is meant to address the need for the neuroscience community to focus more on the socio and psychological desire for violent sports, such as the National Football League (NFL) and the historical evidence of social appeal that dates back to ancient Rome. Introduction: The study of Rome presents an opportunity to relate the past to the present, and analyze how social behaviors have prevailed overtime through sport. Although sent to their death within the arena, the ancient public of Rome glorified gladiators. They supplied an outlet for the public to visually glorify war and violence, while being able to choose a desired hero to root for. Similarly, the professional football players who play in the NFL ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 3. Process Of Punishment Dbq Once the accused was convicted of his crime, the court moved into the punishment phase. Interestingly enough, the process of deciding punishment was quite a flawed one. The reason for this was that most people s perceptions of criminals in the beginning and mid 1800s was that they were people of the working class who were too lazy to work (Emsley). This led to a bias in which working class people seemed to be receiving harsher punishments than any other class except one (Emsley). Although rare, if a womanwas convicted of a crime, they would receive some of the harshest punishments (Victorian Crime) The reason for this was because it was perceived as unladylike as Not only had they transgressed the law, they transgressed perceptions of womanhood, ... • 4. Argument Against Conscription In Australia Conscription was a highly divisive issue in the newly formed country of Australia for multiple reasons. These include the fact that there were many pros and cons to the issue, two plebiscites had been rejected by the public and that the public had very split views on the subject (The Australian War memorial, 2018). It is unlikely that people today will ever be able to come to a conclusion as to whether or not conscriptionwas a good idea for Australia and its people as the effectiveness of war is still a highly debated subject in the modern world. It can be hypothesised that conscription was a highly divisive issue due to Australians split views on the subject. During the start of the war, lots of young Australian men enlisted into the... To be, or not to be: that is the question:/Whether tis nobler in the mind to suffer...The fair Ophelia! Nymph, in thy orisons/Be all my sins remember d (Shakespeare III, i, 56 90). In this famous soliloquy, Hamlet is contemplating suicide. He is meditating on suicide; and he finds that what stands in the way of it, and counterbalances its infinite attraction, is not any thought of a sacred unaccomplished duty, but the doubt, quite irrelevant to that issue, whether it is not ignoble in the mind to end its misery, and, still more, whether death would end it (Bradley 139). The Roman emperor Nero watched gladiator fights through polished gems. In China, sunglasses were used in the 12th century or possibly earlier. These sunglasses were made out of lenses that were flat panes of smoky quartz. They offered no corrective powers nor did they protect from harmful UV rays, but did protect the eyes from glare. In prehistoric and historic time, members of various Eskimoan peoples wore flattened walrus ivory glasses, looking through narrow slits to block harmful reflected rays of the sun. Modern civilization began experimenting with tinted lenses in spectacles around 1752. There was belief that blue or green tinted glass could potentially correct specific vision impairments. Protection from the sun s rays was not a concern at this time. Each year, teachers, districts, and states participate in state testing which shows progress toward a common goal per state, proficiency in academic core content. However, these standardized tests vary from state to state and examined at the national level. Therefore, the level of accuracy cannot be determined as to which states, school districts, and school sites are making great strides to close the achievement gap. Effective teachers are closing the gap by using a variety of strategies and methods in the classroom. Over the years, many new trends as to how to close the achievement gap have flourished. With these trends come numerous amounts of research proving why a particular new teaching methodology is going to work over another; states, school districts, and school sites are at the mercy of these trends to help close the gap to meet the national educational goal of all students must be successful in school. Quality Management Using Six Sigma Quality Management Using Six Sigma Over the last thirty years, the views on quality management shifting from a focus on product inspection and problem identification to the theme that product quality is determined by the process used to produce the product (Jayaraman, Kannabiran, Kumar, 2013; Kerzner, 2013). As a result many quality/process improvement initiatives and methodologies have been developed over the last few decades; one such methodology is known as Six Sigmaand has become the most popular of the quality improvement initiatives (Ismyrlis Moschidis, 2013). This paper will provide a brief overview of Six Sigma along with an explanation of the DMAIC methodology. The paper will present an example from the author s workplace in software engineering to illustrate effective application of the DMAIC process. Six Sigma Overview As explained by Kumar and Kaushish (2015), Six Sigma is a disciplined data driven approach and methodology for eliminating defects in any process (p. 7). Six Sigma stresses the reduction of variation within processes by identifying and eliminating the root causes of defects (Jayaraman et al., 2013; Kerzner, 2013; Kumar Kaushish, 2015). The goal of Six Sigma is to get as close to zero defects as possible. Plants with limited competition and large amounts of resources will be in a higher abundance than plants with limited resources and higher competition rates will be confined to areas and either out competed or will be the dominant species. Certain plants adapt to these factors and thrive and others don t do as well. Some of the abiotic factors include, sunlight, water, temperature, and wind. These... This ridge is also known for its brush fires during the hot seasons, the most recent being the fire in 2007. The fire left 50 acre of the ridge scorched and burned to the ground (Siopack 2007). Duchesne, Eagle, and Erfle (2003) note that constituencies with a high percentage of young adults are very likely to be in favour or Quebec secessionism. This may be due to the fact that young voters provide an effective backing for the nationalist cause in the province (Duchesne, Eagle, Erfle, 2003, p. 652), especially as nationalist and alt right movements are becoming widespread in various regions around the world where political tensions are high, such as Quebec, Alberta, and many areas in the United States. Additionally, ridings with high numbers of voters over the age of 65 are also likely to support sovereignty and parties such as the Bloc Quebecois (Lublin Voss, 2002). That is, these individuals directly experienced the surge in confidence and economic advancement that the Quiet Revolution and the referendums brought to the province (Lublin Voss, 2002). Further, Lublin and Voss (2002) argue that individuals from Quebec who grew up in an era during which sovereignty was widely discussed as a viable and legitimate option ... support sovereignty and the BQ (p. 94). Almost all of his renowned books were collaborations with other writers, primarily Auguste Maquet. Their works included The Three Musketeers and The Count of Monte Cristo. These novels were initially broken down into serials in magazines instead of complete books. Because of all his successes with his novels, the 1840s were the apex of his finances, and he was able to build a luxurious estate. Although Dumas created some of the best known plays and novels in the world, he suffered from many setbacks which ultimately led to his death. He created a controversial, yet popular play in 1832 called The Tower of Nesle. The play depicted many of the vices of the preceding king and was disliked by the new king, Louis Philippe. As a result, the author was exiled from France for a short period of time. He suffered from bankruptcy from wasting too much money on his estate and giving lavish gifts to women. He escaped his creditors by fleeing to Brussels. After he returned to Paris, he worked tirelessly to pay his debts. He created two newspaper companies, which survived about three years each. Then, he had to retreat to first son s home in 1870 because of the Prussian occupation of Paris in the Franco Prussian War. As we know, early diagnosis is key producing long term effects whenever families and parents are diligent in getting their children help. Throughout the diagnosis process, it is imperative to take every element into account. Considerations such as race, culture, and socioeconomic status may affect the validity and reliability of the test. Although the test can be administered exactly as it should be, there are many different characteristics of the child in their upbringing that can affect the outcome of the results. Whether a diagnosis of autism, or diagnosis of another disability is to be made, interventions can be developed to add the child s tool belt on their waist of life. Research shows that the early intervention can highly impact the likelihood of success (Krader, 2014). The American Academy of pediatric tells us that the diagnosis procedure should start in children between 18 and 24 months. With the essential screening process, recommendations can be used to begin intervention and start the help that the child needs. Milan Kundera opens the novel with a discourse on Nietzsche s doctrine of the eternal recurrence. He rejects any view of the recurrence as being real or metaphysical. It is metaphorical he assures us. In a world of objective meaninglessness one must fall into nihilism unless one acts as if one s acts recur eternally, thus giving our acts quot;weight, quot; the weight of those choices we make, as though recurring eternally, living forever. His model case was Oedipus who had no idea he was violating so many social and moral rules of his society. Tomas is speaking about those in Czechoslovakia who acted in a similar manner toward the Russians. Later on this is taken as a socially subversive point of view and he is asked to retract. For reasons he himself hardly understands he refuses and his refusal causes him to be banned as a physician and condemned to low level manual labor, first in Prague and later on a collective farm in a rural area. • 51. The Mammalian Reving Reflection Of The Blood Pressure Conclusion The mammalian dive response causes the blood pressure to increase, heart rate to decrease, and oxygen intake to increase in individuals after they have been submerged in cold water. In this study, after water hit the trigeminal nerve behind the nose, the diving reflex caused peripheral vasoconstriction and bradycardia to occur in the subjects. The vasoconstriction caused the blood pressure to increase as the body attempted to concentrate more blood around heart, lungs and brain. The bradycardia was a result of the body attempting to conserve oxygen by (Pantennon,2013). expand bradycardia This response allows mammals to stay underwater longer, and it helps to extend that organisms life span by overriding other reflexes such as taking an immediate breath when suddenly exposed to water. If a mammal lacks the diving response, then it I smore likely that they may drown because of their body not being able to properly respond to the lack of oxygen. The reactions observed could have also been the result of either the body preparing for hypothermia or simply responding to the cold water shock. Cold water shock is the body s response to being suddenly exposed to cold water. Cold water shock also causes vasoconstriction by causing the blood vessels in the skin to close; both increase the resistance of blood flow which increases blood pressure. However, cold water shock causes the heart rate to increase, not decrease, as the mammalian dive response does. The sudden ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
