Egyptian Woodworking
Egyptian woodworking has been around practically since the first Pharaoh(1). Some tools those
Egyptians used were the lathe, the adze, the cane bender, the saw and the axe. They are pretty simple
tools and some of them are even still used today. One of the tools not used today would be the adze
and it was used for carving and planing but now we have different tools that work better than that(2).
Some of the things the Egyptians would build with their use of woodwork would be when they built
their huts and also when they build their mud buildings because they would make a frame of the
building out of wood.
They also were very big on boat building, they would build boats to go down the Nile river. Boat
building is a very difficult process, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That improvement dramatically helped woodwork today, it sped up build time on houses from
possibly years down to months. It also shrank the amount of people to build a house because they
wouldn t need as much people to lift heavy objects because of the equipment we have today. We have
other things beside woodworking tools to help with the process like cranes because they lift the large
pieces of prebuilt parts of the frame, we also have crowbars that we use to move the wood either into
position or rip it out because of something like the nail being all messed up. Woodworking today is
very much as important as everything else but metalwork still has a bigger influence today especially
for welders because of their building of skyscrapers in major cities.(6)
One of the greatest advancement to wood working today would have to be how easy it is to buy the
wood your wanting to work on. Today there is a greater ability to use a bigger variety of wood locally
bought because of lumber distributors around the world. They make it easier to buy and they check the
quality of the wood before even buying most times. If it wasn t for lumber distributors, the
woodworkers today would possibly have to get their own wood straight out of the

Persecuted Church
Horrifying evil shocks us into paralysis. That is the point of terrorism: not just to kill, but to
demoralize any opposition into hopelessness and inaction. As urgent as it is to document Christian
persecution in our time to shine a light on it, it s important too to understand that evil doesn t stand
unopposed. There are signs of hope: the heroic virtue of many Christians in the face of genocidal
attack; the help they have received from noble allies; and some signs that the tide may have turned and
things can get better.
Earlier this spring I heard Steve Wagner, the head of Solidarity with the Persecuted Church, give an
inspiring and informative presentation about the conditions of persecuted Christians in the hot spots of

Napoleon And Stalin Animal Farm Essay
Animal Farm is a political allegory concerning power about the Russian Revolution. At the beginning
of Animal Farm , power was used to achieve great things. It brought all animals of Manor Farm
together but after an initial influence of power, it began to destroy the community that they had
worked together to form. This can be seen by the character development of Napoleon who is thought
to potray Joseph Stalin, the leader of the Soviet Union during the mid 1920 s. They were both leaders
that abused their power and used ruthless methods to rule over the community. For instance, Napoleon
and Stalin both abused their given power, one of the similarities between them was their act of
violence. In the novella, Animal Farm by George orwell, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the novella, Animal Farm , by George Orwell, Orwell states, Napoleon had accepted, through
Whymper, a contract for four hundred eggs a week.... Their method was to fly up the rafters and there
lay their eggs, which smashed to pieces on the floor.... He [Napoleon] ordered the hens rations to be
stopped and decreed that any animal giving so much as a grain of corn to a hen should be punished by
death (pg.68). This means that Napoleon killed all the chickens because they didn t want to give them
anymore eggs. Napoleon never consulted with the hens to give up their products. This is to symbolise
what Stalin did in the past when he wanted to take the lands away from profiting farmers because
private property is against the government and socialism. Both of them tried to control the food
production and would not mind killing to get the production process smoother. Furthermore, both
dictators ruled over their subjects with an iron hand. Orwell states, ...but it was cruel work, and the
animals could not feel so hopeful about it as they had felt before. They were always cold and usually
hungry as well (pg 66). This means that Napoleon would make the animals work hard no matter how
the harsh conditions were. In relation to this, Stalin made loyal proletariat workers work hard until
they got too tired and incompetent. Overall, both dictators governed their people

Critic And Stigmatisms In Kate Chopin s The Awakening
Critics and Stigmatisms
It was not necessary for a writer of so great refinement and poetic grace to enter the overworked field
of sex fiction , reviews following Chopin s literary awakening, (The Chicago Times Herald 1). The
Awakening contains brilliant images, resilient protagonists, and vulgar sexuality. Kate Chopin utilizes
potent imagery and burning sexual passion as character motives to transcend Edna Pontellier from
social restrictions. A mold so bleak in nature that its oppressive grasp extends far beyond any one
generation. The Awakening centers the main protagonists as individuals with complex desirers beyond
generic characters. Chopin s The Awakening challenged the pseudo personas that society condemned
the protagonist to uphold.
The sensational appetite of Chopin s characters peeked into the feminine mentality. Upon the release
of The Awakening, the St. Louis Globe Democrat, rightly so, noticed the amoral actions of Edna
Pontellier. Stating It is not a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Sociological Theories Of A Nuclear Family
In a sociological perspective, family is interpreted as a social group whose members are bound by
legal, biological, or emotional ties or a combination of all three. The sociological theories the connect
to this concept are functionalism, conflict theory, and symbolic interactionalism. First, functionalism
states that the family socializes children, it provides emotional and practical support for its members,
and it provides its members with a social identity. Secondly, conflict theory states that members create
disagreements, and create emotional support and comfort. Finally, symbolic interactionism claims
family members and intimate couples interact on a daily basis. Families are defined as a relationship
by blood, marriage, or affection (Seccombe 5). My family is a nuclear family. A nuclear family
consists of a mother, father and children living in one household. Every nuclear family has advantages
and disadvantages in them. The advantages are strength and stability, financial stability, which equals
more opportunity, consistency which means lucrative behavior, health benefits, conflict resolution and
better communication skills. In my nuclear family, we incorporate these advantages to become a better
family and to be brought closer together. Strength and stability refers to a child that is born into
marriage tend to have more stability than children born into cohabitation. Spouses that are committed
to each other teach their children to lead positive and

Dualist View Of Star Trek s
After I ve read both the Star Trek synopsis and chapter 3 of Hasker s textbook Metaphysics:

The Birds Essay
The short story quot; The Birds quot; was written by Daphne du Maurrier and was filmed and directed
by Alfred Hitchcock. It has a very interesting and suspenseful plot. The short story was well written
and the film was well played, both are very similar. Although, they have a few differences the film and
short story have the same mood and theme. Would the differences in the film and the short story affect
the suspenseful and frightening plot?Alfred Hitchcock did an outstanding job filming the movie
matching it with the short story. In both the short story and film flocks and flocks of gulls, robins, and
sparrows join each other.
This is a very uncommon, because different species of birds never work mutually. Also, the story and

The short story s setting is just south of London, England, and is set during the period right after
World War II. The film setting is located in Bodega Bay just sixty miles north of San Francisco, and it
is set in the time frame of the 1960s. In the film, a mad woman accused Melanie of bringing quot;evil
quot; and causing the catastrophe of the attacking birds.
In the story the birds attacked when the tide came in and in the film the birds attack in brief intervals,
over and over. The characters are definitely different in the two versions. The short story s main
characters are a family: a husband, wife, and two children. The film s characters are a woman and a
man, and the man s mother and younger sister. Finally, there is no real ending to the short story. The
readers are just left with the family in the house fearing for their lives from the birds coming in and
attacking.
In the film the characters are able to slip out of the house during a quiet interval and drive away. The
short story and the film have the same plots and the same conflict of man vs. man, man vs. nature,
man vs. society, and man vs. the supernatural.
In either version of the story it could not be explained quot;why the birds waited 154 million years to
start attacking humans. quot; Is Melanie or the lovebirds really evil in the film, or in the story is it just
the black winter and tides? My preference version would definitely be the film, because at

Bauhaus vs. Jonson Wax administrative building
Frank Lloyd Wright and Walter Gropius are widely regarded as the prionneering masters of modern
architecture. The Johnson Wax Building and Bauhaus as their symbolic and critical masterpieces
shared similar style of form but different idea of interpreting design. Wright s simplicity approach and
Gropius less is more idea are seemingly related, but varied by their self preference in most aspects.
Generally, since the aim of Gropius is to reconcile arts and crafts, the Bauhaus is industrial in its
aesthetics compressed with steel concrete and glass. Oppositely, Wright favors of nature by focusing

difference can also be founded, Johnson Wax biulding s hermetically enclosed envelop makes it looks
like a mass but Bauhaus s visible cube circumscribed by metal frame of its outer shell creates much
more transparency to makes it like a skeleton volume. Anyway, In both closed and exposured space,
lights control is always a challenged factor.
Gropius, by adjusting the orientation of each part of building to control the daylight, the hierarchy of
which department need more daylights is created, but glazing and over heating still occur through
summer. Wright s smart move by offering light without transparency effectively avoid glazing
happens. The gap between mashroom columns provide smooth daylight transfer. Such illuminated
enclosed space raise up the efficiency of officers and convenience more significantly than Bauhaus in
terms of transparency.
Under different social structure, the layout of building is varied. Gropius spends time to reconcile the
individual and community. Bauhaus, which engages the ideas of liberty, equality and clarity, not only
collective area is protected and slightly privite, but also the tiny balconies of student residence extend
out without committing collectism. Both discipline and confrontation are well managed

Effects of War Presented in Journey s End Compared with...
Explore the ways in which the effects of war on the individual are presented in Journey s End .
Then compare the ways in which Sherriff presents the effects of war on the individual with the ways
in which Hill shows the impact of war on characters in Strange Meeting .
The character most obviously affected by the war in Journey s End is Stanhope. We learn early on in
the play that Stanhope drinks very heavily when Osborne and Hardy have a conversation about him. I
never did see a youngster put away the whisky he does. This is the first we see of the effects that the
war has had on an individual and although there are other characters that are also affected, Stanhope

The effects of war on Stanhope are presented both subtly and obviously. His drinking habits are
continually referred to throughout and although we learn early on that it is something that the war has
forced him into, his hatred for the war or his weak moments aren t made clear to the reader until now
when he admits his loathing to Hibbert.
Hill s character, Colonel Garrett in Strange Meeting is similar to Stanhope in the sense that both
characters are driven to excessive drinking by the effects of the war. Colonel Garrett has changed and
also turned to drink, we know this as the prose reads that Hilliard was appalled; he had not dreamed
that this could happen and so quickly to a man like Garrett . Despite this scene being the first time we
are introduced to Colonel Garrett; Hill manages to present the impact the war has had on him through
Hilliard s reaction to Garrett s new state of character. In contrast to Hill, Sheriff is less subtle in his
presentation of Stanhope and the character himself admits his change. It is interesting to note that
Garrett is minor within the novel whereas Stanhope is a major character in the play which shows the
different ways in which each author chose to present the effect of alcohol within their text. At the
beginning of the play, Raleigh appears to be optimistic and enthusiastic. Even when he is ordered to
go on a raid he seems proud to have been chosen and eager to get

The Difference Between The Winter Olympics And The Winter...
Introduction
Welcome to the world of sport. A fast, competitive and difficult walk of life, where only the
determined and hardworking succeed. Any form of physical exercise requires coordination, skill,
strength and the basic motor movements. Physical disability impairs many people from being able to
compete at the level of able bodied people.
The Olympic Games Started in 1896. Started for all those able bodied sportsmen and woman looking
for universal competition. In later years the Paralympics was started for war veterans. In 1960 it was
no longer exclusive to war veterans and was opened to all those living with disabilities.
What is the difference between the winter Olympics and the winter Paralympics in terms of
qualification and concessions?
The winter Olympic games:
Alpine skiing, biathlon, bobsleigh, cross country skiing, curling, figure skating, freestyle skiing, ice
hockey, luge, Nordic combined, short track speed skating, skeleton, ski jumping, snowboarding and
speed skating are all 15 sports that take part in the winter Olympics. With each one of these sports you
need physical strength, mental strength and a fully functional body. The criterion for each sport is very

Being disabled is a very unfortunate thing, whether you were born disabled or later became impaired
either way it is still difficult to cope with. Sport however is one way in which physically or mentally
disabled people can enjoy time being active and at the same time stimulate muscle movement and
growth. The Paralympics is for those who are disabled in some way but are still capable of
preforming. The Paralympics has set concessions and requirements for those competing and the
competitor s level of disability is assessed prior. There are different categories set for the disabled and
their physical and mental abilities are assessed and they are then placed in their certain categories. To
compete at the Paralympics you have to have fit into one or more of the following

The Death Of The Moth
In her essay The Death of the Moth , Virginia Woolf depicts the struggle of life confronting death
through the death of a moth. Woolf sees a moth flying in a pleasant morning, mid September, mild,
benignant (385). She uses this soft autumnal description of her morning to emphasize the beauty of
life and the happiness one feels while being alive; however, she uses the moth to represent life itself
and show its own struggles: [the moth] tried to fly across...the window pane , but he failed (386). She
uses the moth s failure and awkwardness (386) to announce death s arrival and the moth s constant
effort to keep flying to show a desperation to hang on to life. Why moth is so attached to life?. After
perhaps a seventh attempt [the moth] slipped from the wooden ledge and fell, fluttering his wings,
onto his back on the window sill (385). No matter how bad the consequences of the moth s attempts to
fly, he was not going to surrender and after recognizing that there was something marvelous as well as
pathetic about the moth due to his constants attempts to live, Woolf stretched out a pencil, meaning to
help him to right himself , but when she notice the approach of death... [she] laid the pencil down
again (385). Woolf s use of the pencil instead of her own fingers shows how fragile the life of the
moth was and how careful she was trying to be to help the insignificant creature (385). However, her
shift from interest on the moth life to its death might

Inhumanity In Night Elie Wiesel
From the depths of the mirror, a corpse was contemplating me. The look in his eyes gazed at me and
never left. (Wiesel 115). Since the inmates were treated horribly for such a tremendous amount of
time, it left images of the beatings they took, the never ending work they had to do, and the killing of
their friends in their head. Two main points proven in Night by Elie Wiesel is how he created stronger
bonds with people and how he lost faith in someone he use to praise and pray to every day. When
going through a rough period of time, people may lose hope in their faith or religion. To start with,
when the summer was wrapping up, Elie sees people praying and states, Why, but why would I bless
him? Every fiber in me rebelled. Because he caused ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

asked my age. Fifteen No, you re eighteen But I m not I said. I m fifteen Fool, listen to what I tell
you... (Wiesel 30). Certainly this may have come off as being rude, but this was a major help to Elie
and his father. If they were to actually give up and tell their real jobs, this could have put them in the
crematorium. The Nazis were looking for healthy, strong, and fit people. Since Ellie was young and
his father was old at the time, they probably wouldn t have met the Nazis requirements. Likewise,
another moment of hope was when Ellie shared his soup with his sick father and states Did you eat?
No. They wouldn t give us anything... I gave him what was left of my soup. (Wiesel 107). Even
though Elie is hungry too, he still managed to give up half of his soup. His father is on the verge of
death and people are telling him to stop caring for his father, but he still continues to share his meals
with him. Provided that, Elie has created a much bigger connection with his father rather than just the
father and son role. In the end, the result of inhumanity can cause people to change for the better and

Introduction
Geert Hofstede developed the first empirical model of dimensions of national culture. He was
recognised internationally for the model that includes Power Distance, uncertainty avoidance,
individualism vs collectivism and Masculinity vs Femininity. The Dimension of Hofstede that is the
basis of this report is uncertainty avoidance. Uncertainty Avoidance is how society reacts to an
unusual situation in a feared or fearless way, it demonstrates the truth of that society (refer to Clearly

Discussion
It is evident from the survey that Australia is similar to the Philippines in terms of Uncertainty
Avoidance. Both countries shared similar views and the majority of results were reasonable and not
unusual. These two countries are seen as a safe place to live from the results of the survey. Geert
Hofstede had his research on the comparison of Australia with the Philippines with Australia on 51
and Philippines on 44. This comparison is very close with a 6% difference and demonstrated the
similarity of results between the two countries on the survey. The survey didn t have any obvious clues
that could demonstrate a significant difference between Australia and the Philippines. Therefore it is
seen that the uncertainty avoidance is alike between these two countries.
Australia and the Philippines are seen as Safe Countries. When people travel to

The Ending to Eugene O Neil s Long Day s Journey Into Night It is understandable that so many

Even Jamie, who is berated time and time again for his loose tongue, stammers, as he has things that
he has left unsaid and that no one is really aware. In many ways, the first three acts of the play are
little more than just this four characters stammering, letting emotions build themselves up inside of
them; the first three acts are a prelude to the drama that unfolds in the final act of the play. In the
beginnings of the play we are given the extreme circumstances surrounding the family that day:
Edmund is to be diagnosed with consumption, Mary is to fall deeper and deeper into an addiction
from which she supposedly recovered, and each of the characters is to unravel under the strain that all
the stammering has placed upon them. We are given the impression that the events of the fourth act

father tells him of how miserable he is now and how he was so muh happier as a struggling, young
actor than as a commerial success. Up until the final act, Edmund has gone with Jamie and fancied

Breakers are electromechanical devices which protect an electrical circuit from an over current as well
as overload condition. MCB is a better than Fuse since it does not require replacement once an
overload is detected. In the case of tripping because of a current overload, MCBs are very easy to
reset, which is much simpler to do that having to replace blown fuses. MCBs also trip to stop the
current from flowing much faster than fuses can operate. When the current exceeds its pre determined
value, solenoid forces the moveable contact to open and the MCB turns off and discontinuing the
current to flow in the circuit. To resume the flow of current; the MCB needs to be turned on manually.

overloading and under voltage. MCB is reliable. Disadvantages: The cost of MCB is greater than fuse.

Religion Reflection
Before taking American Religious Lives, I had previously taking Mystery and Meaning, that was my
first encounter with religion. Essentially everything that we have learned in the class has been new to
me because I do not have any prior experience with American religion, since my other Religious
Studies class focused on Asian and Native American religions. Growing up I never went to church
growing up, but I was baptized, but never understood what that meant. I do no think of myself who is
involved or a part of any religion. The fact that I am unfamiliar makes the class very challenging for
me, but it is also a good type of challenge because it makes me work harder to understand all the
topics discussed in class and it makes me really have to think deeper about all the topics. Not being
associated with any religion is also helpful because I can be an outsider and not have a biased opinion
and not have to choose a side of the different religious perspectives. Religion seems like it is a very
complex topic, where a lot of religions in America have different sects and each sect has a different
background. I knew that Christianity was the most popular religion in America, but I did not know
about all the different sects and that Christianity as a whole is the faith of over 70% of Americans and
that most of the other 30% is made up of people who are unaffiliated with any religion. (Wormald, 1).
Another topic that I found intriguing was that most of the immigrants that come to

Investigating The Victimization Of Persons With Mental...
Abstract
This paper explores two published articles that investigate the victimization of persons with Mental
Retardation (MR). Specifically, this paper examined the differences between MR and mental illness,
the risk of victimization and the nature of victimization for persons with MR, factors contributing to
the risk of victimization for persons with MR, and perpetrators of victimization against persons with
MR. Studies have found several influences contributing to the risk of victimization for persons with
MR including victim related factors, relationship factors and environmental factors. Together, these
findings suggest that persons with MR are at a higher risk of being victimized.
The Effects of Victimization on Persons with Mental Retardation Mental Retardation (MR) is a
developmental disability along with autism, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, and learning disabilities
(Petersilia, 2001). Specifically, MR is defined as significant limitations in intellectual functioning and
adaptive skills in two or more areas: self care, social skills, home living and other fundamental issues
for life functioning (Nettlebeck Wilson, 2002; Petersilia, 2001). Such limitations should originate
before age 18 and are commonly presented at birth. An IQ level below 70 is also used as a criterion for
measuring intellectual functioning in individuals with MR (Nettlebeck Wilson, 2002; Petersilia, 2001).
Distinctions exist between MR and mental illness. For example, a

Tobias Smollett s Peregrine Pickle
During the mid 18th century, it was more important to keep a good reputation within society than to
show how one truly feels. When the interaction between the men start it is evident how angry and
frustrated each of the men are, however they don t express these feelings towards one another. Instead
of expressing their true feeling they end their dispute with a sword fight which, in this time period, is a
socially acceptable way. In Tobias Smollett s novel, The Adventures Of Peregrine Pickle, the
interaction between Peregrine and Godfrey show how social decorum can suppress ones feelings to
act upon natural instincts. Even though Peregrine and Godfrey are formal when speaking to one
another, it is apparent that each other is withholding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When both men get ready to fight they helped pull each other s boots, and laid aside their coats and
waistcoats. With all the masked emotions within Peregrine and Godfrey they both wait to take off their
boots and coats before fighting. This shows that even when the anger and frustration building up in the
men they still prioritize social norms. Once Godfrey wounded Mr. Pickle all of the emotions that
Peregrine hid came to life. Peregrine was transported with rage at the sight of his own blood, and
returned the assault with such fury and precipitation. Through the imagery in this quote, it shows how
the emotions of Peregrine built up so much that they eventual boiled over. He couldn t hold it in any
longer and he let his emotions go the only time that he could. A socially acceptable sword fight is the
only acceptable time to let your emotions fly. At the end of the battle Mr. Pickle was left at the mercy
of the soldier. With all of the anger within both men you would think that this would be the end to
Peregrine s however it is not. Once again Godfrey abides by the social norms and doesn t kill Mr.
Pickle. The use of the sword fight was to let both men s emotions go in an acceptable way to

The History and Evoluition of Dance
Modern dance was created as a rebellion against the prevalent dance forms of the time, ballet and
Vaudeville. It is a form of theatrical dance, known for its continual fusion of non western style and
ideas, which allows for a fresh source of movement inspiration. Choreographers rejected what they
classified as the inflexible and imperialistic nature of ballet, and in order to be taken seriously as
artists rather than simple entertainers they created a new art form. Artists Loie Fuller, Isadora Duncan,
and Ruth St. Denis are considered to be the pioneers of modern dance in America. Dance is a social
institution, recognized as being an important function in civilized life. The following essay will focus
on the theory and work of artist Isadora Duncan, while incorporating lecture notes and articles of both
authors Sally Bane and Ann Daly to explain the historical situations that culminated in the
development of early modern dance. Arising from the 20th century modern dance was a form of
cultural collaboration and exploration, as well as a resistance to colonial repression. Modern dance
allowed for the experimentation of the new as well as a freer form of dance movement.
Choreographers drew on exotic sources, and example of this illustrated in the work of Isadora Duncan
with her use of Greek culture as a movement inspiration. Artists act as both the choreographer and
performer creating their own conventions, or dance language.

The Dangers Of Fennec Foxes
Fennec Foxes
There are over 30 different species of Canines in the world (Canidae. Wikipedia), and 18 of those
species are foxes. Foxes are known for their cunning, and slyness. They are often portrayed as beady
eyed tricksters whose goal is to harm someone. One reason for this is because of their resilient ability
to survive. No matter what is thrown at them, or what conditions they must live in, they always stand
strong. One of the most resolute of them all is the small but fierce fennec fox.
The fennec fox is the smallest canine in the world, ranging from 9 to 16 inches in length and weighing
only 2 to 3 pounds (World book. Fennec). These endearing creatures don t look like your typical
beady eyed tricksters. In fact, their big brown eyes look quite a bit like melted chocolate. They have
huge pointy ears, and a black tipped tail. They are normally an orange cream color, with layers of
brown mixed in. These colors help them to blend in with the landscape, while hunting for their
families, in their native home of northern Africa (World book. Fennec). ... Show more content on

But fennec foxes are different, because they live in communities. Going back to their devious
reputation, a group of foxes is often called a skulk, but fennec fox communities are more like one big
family. They support each other, and guard each other s backs. These communities, which range from
6 to 10 foxes, live in vast burrows under the sand. During mating season, the males often get into
skirmishes with each other, as they are overprotective of their mates. Fennec foxes are monogamous,
which means they have one mate for their whole life. Having so many mouths to feed is challenging,
especially for the male foxes, also called reynards, who bring food to the vixen, female foxes, and kits,

games and gun violence correlates. The author opens up with someone by the name of Aaron Alexis
who resorted to gun violence while playing video games that contained violence. There is a violent
video game that scares parents and behavioral experts. There has been a debate on whether people
who play video games later have violent behavior. Throughout the years, video games continue to
show images portraying violence. Tragedies like Newton has caused many well known people or
celebrities to give in their input to why violence learned by video games should be stopped or better
regulated. People like Donald Trump, Ralph Nader, and Wayne LaPierre claim that video games and
violence are linked and can be seen throughout society. The government has proposed alternatives to
diminishing consumption so that violence might decrease in our society, but with this they also want
to understand the influence violent video games have on today s youth. Although, many would find
Mario and Pokemon to be the most popular in the video game industry, first person shooter games are
in fact much more popular today. Two examples of first person shooter games that are popular in
today s market are Call of Duty and Bioshock Infinite. Even though first person shooter games are
quite popular among the gaming industry, they still contain violence. Research trying to prove that

The Importance Of Imagination In Childhood
My article talks about Cleo, who is 4 years old. Cleo came home one day from school and was talking
to her mom what she did that day and Cleo said, we drank purple milk that came from a purple cow.
Now that s imagination. Kids that imagine things are far better off to learn quicker than other kids.
With imagination, they can picture things that they haven t seen before and put a picture to the words.
Every kid has an imagination, just that when they get older they find out that things are exactly what
they imagined. For example, the purple cow, when Cleo gets older and can understand more her mom
will tell her that the cow isn t actually purple nor is the milk. Parents find joy in their children when
they have an imagination because it shows that they have the skill to think about things. When kids
use their imagination, it is important for them to know that there is a difference between real and
pretend. Imagination is more important than knowledge, Einstein once said. With imagination
anything is possible. The thinking cap of children is expressed through their dynamic pretend mode.
This is where kids learn more about everything in the world, is with their imagination. Imagination
encourages cognitive and social development, something every child needs in the real world. when
kids are playing with their toys, they are putting themselves in a situation in the real world that they
have no idea about because it is just their imagination taking them somewhere.

The Causes Of The Capitalist Revolution In Europe
In Europe, a revolution took place. This revolution was known as the Capitalist Revolution.
Capitalism as it s also called, is a system which uses the investment of money, or capital , to produce
profits. This system was introduced and implemented in the year 1250 through the 1500 s. Under this
revolution the people were split into a caste. The Church, The Monarch, and The Nobility took the
upper class while those who worked under them were known as the Middle class. The reason as to
why they were known as the upper class was because they owned land. Their status as landowners
gave them the power to basically own slaves or exploit those were in serfdom to the land owners.
Capitalism allowed the wealthy to invest and buy businesses. This system that allows rich people to
invest their money in projects and make or lose even more money. This lead to a monetary difference
between rich and poor. One of the ruling classes was the Church. the Church became one of Europe s
dominant powers when Rome fell in the year 476. The power of the Church grew with the weakening
of Rome s secular influences. The ensuing regional isolation in turn led to a dividing trend in which
the various reaches of the Empire, particularly the distant regions increasingly had to resort to
provincial self reliance. Secondly, as the Roman state s abilities to govern and administer the Empire s
vast stretches declined, several administrative and government occupations were given to local
bishops,

Music Piracy And Civil Law
Music piracy is an infringement that involve the copying or selling of creative works that which the
copyright owner, composer, or artist did not consent to. Before the invention of newer technology that
allowed for the piracy process to become less difficult, music piracy was much easier to control. With
this new and improved technology of the 21st century, users of the web began adding media files to
the internet, which made all previous difficulties substantially less challenging. It was much easier for
people with little to no knowledge of technology and old piracy methods to gather media files. Piracy
may seem petty, but the effects are major. Not only is it illegal, when music is copied and or shared the
value decreases with each download. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many citizens are unaware that downloading music although free is illegal and others may think of
piracy as a victimless. Individual artists, ranging from celebrity musical acts like Metallica to the stay
at home mothers who sell digital scrapbooking kits in their free time, frequently speak out against
piracy when talking to their fans. Grassroots organizations also work to educate the public about
music property rights through online marketing campaigns. Technology has given the Music
companies a fighting chance in preventing music piracy. Software programs can be created to require
authorization codes or online registration forms that make piracy more difficult because they are only
given with legal copies. For downloadable content, digital rights management systems limit the
number of devices that can play a particular movie or song in order to stop people from sharing
unauthorized copies. Unfortunately, there are still resourceful hackers and people in the piracy
industry that still continue to find ways to get around these measures. Lawsuits may seem like an
obvious way to stop piracy, but legal action is typically a last resort with the widespread use of the
Internet, it is way too time consuming and expensive to track down every web site and person that is
involved in the production and sharing of illegal music files. Piracy laws also vary from country to
country, making enforcement rather

Personal Narrative
The air was crisp outside, it was nearing Christmas in our small little city named Belleville. Everyone
seemed to be out and about finishing their last minute Christmas shopping and the city had a busy, but
happy feel to it. The ground had a white blanket of snow on it that had just fallen during the early
hours of the morning. My mom was taking me to the mall so that I could get pictures taken with
Santa, one of my favourite parts about Christmas. As I was sitting in my car seat all bundled up in my
snow suit, clutching my favourite stuffed bunny all I was fixated on was what to ask Santa for
Christmas. I was 7 years old with big brown eyes that glared out the window with the unruliest hair
you could ever imagine. As we stopped at our final red light before our destination, we both witnessed
an extremely bad car wreck. It was one of those car wrecks that seem to happen in slow motion, so
slow that you can almost scream Watch out! . All of a sudden, the women that I viewed as my ordinary
suburban mom dashed out of our warm van to face the crisp, windy weather. That day she risked her
life to save another. She was able to keep the driver of the SUV stable until the ambulance arrived.
This was the first time I ever saw my mom as the true person she is. Selfless, courageous, she stepped
in not even on a first name basis. She didn t know that person in the SUV and they didn t know her.

How Is Cronus Selfish
The Greek God, Cronus was a devilish one. While being one of the smartest gods, Cronus still fell for

early adulthood, he dethroned his father with a sickle given by his mother, imprisoned his brothers

Knott (PT), and Dorothy Voss (PT) being the developers of this method. PNF was developed to treat
neurological dysfunctions (such as multiple sclerosis and cerebral palsy) . This was an attempt to gain
better control in a population of neurologically impaired instead of just offering the standard treatment
at the time which was range of motion exercising and gate belt training (Knott and Voss, 1968). Even

but in subsequent years it was unable to meet the ever growing needs of the city. The Stapleton Airport
was seen as a liability and limited the attractiveness of businesses that were swarming to it. Issues

While BAE was already working on United s baggage system, the PMT recognized the need for a
fully integrated baggage handling system for all of DIA. Since no other airlines were emerging with
plans to develop their own baggage system, airport planners and consultants drew up plans for an
airport wide baggage handling system and sent out request for bids to several different companies.
Initially BAE declined to bid on the project due to one main reason; the technology required to operate
a system of such a large size and complexity should be determined very early in the project life cycle.
BAE had the technology that was needed (destination coded vehicles moving at high speed) but
implementing this technology into such a complex project would have required much more time then
was available. Going against their better judgment, BAE presented the city of Denver with a proposal
to develop the most intricate automated baggage system ever built. The plan was to be very effective
in delivering baggage quickly, reliable in its operation, and extremely flexible. This type of system
would save ground time, decrease close out time for hub operations, and reduce time in sorting and
handling baggage. Although more expensive than an uncomplicated tug and baggage cart system,

Advent of Industrialization Essay
The advent of industrialization in the early nineteenth century had wide reaching impacts on
economics, politics, society and demographics. The transition from an agrarian and feudal system of
production to an industrial and capitalistic system brought about many changes to the lives of
Europeans. Some of these changes include gender issues, immigration, medicine, the rise of liberal
and socialist politics, and the rise of some famous political movements. In the following essay I will
expand upon some of the many ramifications that industrialization brought to fruition.
Before the advent of industrialization much of European production was focused on agriculture for
practical reasons. A nation must produce enough food to feed its ... Show more content on

The price of beef, tea and sugar had also come down, allowing many middle class families to enjoy
these luxuries in their diet.
The middle class may have seen some positive changes during this time period, but the working class
was not nearly as fortunate. Conditions for the working class were terrible and unsanitary. Many
working class families were crowded into small apartments with dirt floors, no indoor plumbing, and
their general lot in life was quite miserable. I remember our book talking about the filth from chamber
pots, the mold and mildew that grew rampantly inside these dwellings, and the lack of sanitation.
Their diet was also a sad tale. While the middle class could afford beef and sugar, the working class
was forced to subsist mainly on bread. This lack of protein and necessary vitamins and minerals would
have put them at a much higher risk for disease and malnutrition.
The division in quality of life gave rise to a set of political principles and ideologies known as
liberalism. The liberal movement in thought, politics, and social constructs can be seen in popular
political movements of the mid nineteenth century. The Charter Movement in Great Britain can be
seen as an example of the liberal democratic movements. Chartism sought to obtain universal male
suffrage, secret balloting, removal of a land owning requirement for

John Lee Hancock s Film The Blind Side
Critical Analysis The Blind Side
John Lee Hancock s film The Blind Side portrays the struggles of a talented black man in Memphis,
Tennessee trying to pursue his dream of becoming a professional football player. Michael Oher comes
from the projects and doesn t know how to fit in as part of the white society that surrounds him. As a
black man he experiences mistreatment and discrimination from his white community, which tends to
be a common trend of the American mainstream. Lucky enough for Michael, the Tuohys take him in
and he gets a second chance to pursue what he is passionate about, football. They accept Michael for
who he is and what he wants to become. A reoccurring theme that is portrayed in The Blind Side is
that no matter what race you are, through cultural relativism and dedication, one can become
successful and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the beginning of Michael s football career he was unable to figure out what he actually needed to
do on the field. It wasn t until Leigh Anne explained to him: This team is your family, you protect
them. This genuinely hit a chord with Michael. He is now able to not only have a new family at home
but one on the field as well. His protective instincts step in and through dedication and his journey at
overcoming prejudice, Michael becomes a successful and appreciated football star.
The title The Blind Side refers to the blind spot behind a quarterback when he is passing, the offensive
left tackle is the player assigned to protect the quarterback. Michael Oher plays the offensive tackle
position. The offensive left tackle is like a bodyguard for the quarterback. This again represents
Michael s protective instincts and hence why the movie is called The Blind Side. This title ties in with
the overall theme of the film. Michael will step in and protect anyone that he cares about, overcoming
the stereotypes and prejudice that he faces so

Essay On Afro-Black Slavery
The South was in desperate need of workers in the time before the mid seventeenth century; however
their help arrived in the mid seventeenth century in the form of black workers. There once was an idea
that the Afro Black race was the only eligible people that should populate the system of slavery in
America. Afro Black slavery in the United States of America has been argued in two ways by
historians and researchers. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the two points that one side asking if
slavery was the result of white racism and the other side asking if white racism was a result of slavery.
The second point was rather or not white racism was a result of slavery. In the year of 1950, an
influential article was published by Oscar and Mary Handlin. Their article compared slavery to the
other ways of bondage, by discussing that what separated slavery from other ideals and ways of
service was that it was only limited to the African people, it was a permanent ordeal, and that it was
inherited from one generation to another. The Handlins believe that the backbone of slavery was
orchestrated by colonial governors to increase the able ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He argues for the first point. Jordan says in his book White Over Black (1968) as well as other works
that Europeans had viewed people of color as inferior people for a very long time way before their
current time in history. He believed that those thoughts and attitudes travelled with the white
Europeans to the New World. Therefore according to this statement it could be said that white racism
molded the relationship and treatment of the Africans since the origins of their arrival in America.
Jordan goes on to conclude that the Whites would have oppressed the Blacks in the New World
regardless if there was an apparent economic incentive or

Analysis Of The Ones Who Walk Away From House Of
The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas is not a utopian story, but it assumes the reader is well aware
of them. In acknowledging the foibles inherent to the genre, mainly the difficulty in describing an
ideal society in a world where such a thing is still being argued and defined, it invites the reader to
make his or her best attempt at filling in the gaps. Complicity established, the story puts a living price
tag on this beautiful ideal, asking if such a thing could be justified. Most rational observers would say
No and take the proffered option of walking away from the city, but this too is ultimately a
shortsighted choice. Omelas cannot be merely ignored, it must be destroyed and remade, a
responsibility that rests squarely on those it benefited. Described to us by a nameless narrator, Omelas
is reminiscent of many a shining city on the hill, descriptions of which can often seem cloying and
saccharine. Yet Omelas is not a place of simple folk ... noble savages, bland utopians. (Le Guin, 612.)
It is not a place that eliminates vice, but rather a place where vice does no harm. Even in the moments
when citizens are at their least controlled, they remain kind and compassionate. In Omelas there are no
offenses resulting in the instilment of guilt, because the admission of guilt, honest and consuming,
would ensure the city s destruction. Imbedded deep into the citizenry s subconscious, it is this
unspoken guilt that gives Omelas its soul. Whether an individual chooses to never

Wisconsin-Madison Research Paper
The University of Wisconsin Madison struck my eye from the very first time I stepped on campus. It
was a beautiful morning in November; the air was brisk, the sun was shining, and the leaves were just
beginning to fall. Being from Arizona, there were only two seasonal weather patterns that existed:
really hot with a nice, cool winter. I had loved every second at home, but I was ready to experience
something new.
I never knew anyone who had attended the University of Wisconsin Madison, which made the entire
visiting trip feel personal and unique. My initial undergraduate major fluctuated between the business
and engineering world. I was constantly reminded by my parents about how the typical college student
changes their major six times, so I had a desire to pursue a school with a plethora of options. Luckily,
the University of Wisconsin Madison had top tier programs in both fields. ... Show more content on

Coming from Arizona, I knew what it was like to see thousands of students at a football game rallying
behind their team. Surprisingly, Wisconsin Madison was home to some of the most dedicated fans
alive. Even in harsher weather conditions, the students make it out to the games, filling the seats high
and heavy with a sea of screaming red Badgers. Furthermore, the Badgers excel in every sport,
including my personal favorite, hockey. To be apart of a dominate Big Ten school is everything I had
dreamt of. What makes the University of Wisconsin different from other power five schools is their
ability to switch into student mode. The majority of athletically gifted universities tend to focus their
time on athletics alone, whereas the University of Wisconsin Madison values both education and

Enkidu Literary Analysis
The purpose behind the creation of Enkidu is to tame the untamable Gilgamesh. When a tree produces
too much fruit, it begins to slouch downwards, meaning that as the rate of fame increases, the level of
humbleness should increase as well. However, Gilgamesh wasn t that tree. His confidence and
brutality grew as his fame increased which is why the gods sent a councilor like Enkidu who would be
able to defeat Gilgamesh and narrow down the percentage of his arrogance. He was only being
capable of preventing Gilgamesh from taking actions that he d regret. On the description of his dream
regarding Enkidu, Gilgamesh says, An ax was thrown down in the street of ramparted Uruk ... I fell in

Utilitarianism And Pleasure
In video 2, Sandel discuss the issue of whether there are values to everything, some believe that not
everything have a price while some believe that there has to be a value for everything in order for
people to decide which lead to more happiness. Then on part 2 he further discusses that whether there
are distinction between higher pleasure and lower pleasure? This issue started with the discussion of
utilitarianism who was founded by Jeremy Bentham. Jeremy Bentham believe that the greatest good is
for an individual or a politician is to maximize the community s happiness, therefore before making
policy, law or even saying what is just or not, the individual and politician should consider comparing
the cost and benefit to maximize happiness. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Based on Jeremy Bentham, he believe that we can measure pleasure, The magnitude of a pleasure is
the duration multiplied by the intensity of the pleasure. (Archie, 1). Therefore the highest pleasure is
simply just pleasure that give you the strongest intensity and longest duration. Bentham also said in
one of his famous quote quantity of pleasure being equal, pushpin is as good as poetry. In my opinion
what Bentham is trying to say is that whatever things we choose to do is the higher pleasure, quality
doesn t matter, but the quantity is important. However, John Stuart Mill disagree with Bentham. He
believe that quality of pleasure is important Mill himself presents the claim that mental pleasures are
better than physical to be because humans prefer to exist in a way that engages their higher faculties
(Mill 56). We are unwilling to sink low due to our dignity as humans (Mill 57). We are not swine, to
be satisfied with the pleasure of pigs. (Bhardwaj, 5). Mill believe that reading a book is higher
pleasure than playing video games and to know that, human need education. But, he also noted that
sometimes people chooses lower pleasure over the higher pleasure but the fact is, deep down in their
mind the other choices are still a higher pleasure. In my opinion, I believe in Jeremy Bentham s way
of measuring pleasure, because I believe that whatever we chooses to do is the one with a higher
pleasure. For example, reading Shakespeare or sitting at home playing video games, many people
would choose to play video game rather than Shakespeare because most people would feel that video
give out most pleasure but Shakespeare would give people a headache rather than

Norman, Oklahoma
In the 1870 s, the Unassigned Lands in the part of the Oklahoma Territory that would become
Norman, Oklahoma was a sight to behold. Just north of the North Canadian River, which is the main
tributary of the Canadian River, which in turn is the largest tributary of the Arkansas River, Abner
Ernest Norman led his federal surveying crew to what would develop into the town bearing his
namesake. Norman, a 23 year old surveyor from Kentucky, was hired to oversee part of this project.
Norman s work crew set up camp near what is today the corner of Classen and Lindsey streets; it was
there that the men, perhaps jokingly, carved a sign on an elm tree that read Norman s Camp, in honor
of their young boss. (Mills) In 1866, the United States signed ... Show more content on

Whether it is through the contributions made to the economy through the training and advancement of
technology at the University of Oklahoma, or through Norman s consistent acceptance and pursuance
of new business throughout its 189 square miles, the city is consistent in its pursuit of both growth and
excellence. Norman hosts large festivals throughout the year, including the Norman Music Festival,
the Medieval Fair, Jazz in June, and 89er s Day Festival. These festivals all bring in hundreds of
thousands of dollars to the city of Norman and its businesses, plus they help to increase the popularity
of tourism in not only Norman, but also across Oklahoma. Norman is an amazing town. The people
are some of the most friendly as anywhere that can be found in the state of Oklahoma. The consistent
pursuit of excellence in business and in education stand as an example to the rest of the state. Also,
Norman is home to the University of Oklahoma, the school that is tied for third most college football
national championships in all of the United States. As they say in Norman, BOOMER

Analysis Of The Political Cartoon
The political cartoon uses several outlets to reach its audience. It is describing the turmoil with the war
in the Middle East and discussion of feminism. It does this in the following ways; through the
audience its speaking to, the message it wishes to instill on them, symbols, and emotions.
I believe the artist of the political cartoon was sending a message to young women that want to be
treated equally as men. As shown in the cartoon, women are already in the front lines in battle. Heads
over the military declare that soon women will serve on front lines alongside their fellow man. The
cartoonist explains through his drawing that women are already fighting on the front lines. They want
the American public to know that they take care

America s Grammar Problem Essay
America s Grammar Problem Growing up we re told repeatedly that, grammar is important, and you
will need it in college. As I sit in these lectures, however, I see that claim hasn t fazed anybody. I sit in
an English class expecting to read these great, well put together papers, and I get the same writing
level I saw my senior year in high school. I should expect this, I mean, no kid is going to magically
learn the rules of writing over the summer. I didn t. It took nine grueling months of an English class
that, quite frankly, was hell on earth to learn most of them. The class was the toughest class I have
ever sat through, and yet, I m blessed. I m in my second semester as a college student, and Sandra
Stebbin s English class has saved me more times than I care to count. It s time for the United States
education system to start taking grammar seriously. This is a huge concern, because our future leaders
can t afford to have writing skills equivalent to a 7th grade middle school kid. I will start with a
journey through a hellacious class focused around grammar. Coming into the WCSCC as a 12th
grader, I was astonished at how little skill I had when it came to grammar. It still boggles my mind that
it took twelve years of school before I met a teacher who really, really cared about how I composed
my sentences. She wanted us to know what adjectives, prepositions, nouns, pronouns, and run on
sentences were. However, she knew we didn t. On the first day of class, she made the

  • 2. Egyptian Woodworking Egyptian woodworking has been around practically since the first Pharaoh(1). Some tools those Egyptians used were the lathe, the adze, the cane bender, the saw and the axe. They are pretty simple tools and some of them are even still used today. One of the tools not used today would be the adze and it was used for carving and planing but now we have different tools that work better than that(2). Some of the things the Egyptians would build with their use of woodwork would be when they built their huts and also when they build their mud buildings because they would make a frame of the building out of wood. They also were very big on boat building, they would build boats to go down the Nile river. Boat building is a very difficult process, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That improvement dramatically helped woodwork today, it sped up build time on houses from possibly years down to months. It also shrank the amount of people to build a house because they wouldn t need as much people to lift heavy objects because of the equipment we have today. We have other things beside woodworking tools to help with the process like cranes because they lift the large pieces of prebuilt parts of the frame, we also have crowbars that we use to move the wood either into position or rip it out because of something like the nail being all messed up. Woodworking today is very much as important as everything else but metalwork still has a bigger influence today especially for welders because of their building of skyscrapers in major cities.(6) One of the greatest advancement to wood working today would have to be how easy it is to buy the wood your wanting to work on. Today there is a greater ability to use a bigger variety of wood locally bought because of lumber distributors around the world. They make it easier to buy and they check the quality of the wood before even buying most times. If it wasn t for lumber distributors, the woodworkers today would possibly have to get their own wood straight out of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Persecuted Church Horrifying evil shocks us into paralysis. That is the point of terrorism: not just to kill, but to demoralize any opposition into hopelessness and inaction. As urgent as it is to document Christian persecution in our time to shine a light on it, it s important too to understand that evil doesn t stand unopposed. There are signs of hope: the heroic virtue of many Christians in the face of genocidal attack; the help they have received from noble allies; and some signs that the tide may have turned and things can get better. Earlier this spring I heard Steve Wagner, the head of Solidarity with the Persecuted Church, give an inspiring and informative presentation about the conditions of persecuted Christians in the hot spots of Iraq, Syria, and ... • 4. Napoleon And Stalin Animal Farm Essay Animal Farm is a political allegory concerning power about the Russian Revolution. At the beginning of Animal Farm , power was used to achieve great things. It brought all animals of Manor Farm together but after an initial influence of power, it began to destroy the community that they had worked together to form. This can be seen by the character development of Napoleon who is thought to potray Joseph Stalin, the leader of the Soviet Union during the mid 1920 s. They were both leaders that abused their power and used ruthless methods to rule over the community. For instance, Napoleon and Stalin both abused their given power, one of the similarities between them was their act of violence. In the novella, Animal Farm by George orwell, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the novella, Animal Farm , by George Orwell, Orwell states, Napoleon had accepted, through Whymper, a contract for four hundred eggs a week.... Their method was to fly up the rafters and there lay their eggs, which smashed to pieces on the floor.... He [Napoleon] ordered the hens rations to be stopped and decreed that any animal giving so much as a grain of corn to a hen should be punished by death (pg.68). This means that Napoleon killed all the chickens because they didn t want to give them anymore eggs. Napoleon never consulted with the hens to give up their products. This is to symbolise what Stalin did in the past when he wanted to take the lands away from profiting farmers because private property is against the government and socialism. Both of them tried to control the food production and would not mind killing to get the production process smoother. Furthermore, both dictators ruled over their subjects with an iron hand. Orwell states, ...but it was cruel work, and the animals could not feel so hopeful about it as they had felt before. They were always cold and usually hungry as well (pg 66). This means that Napoleon would make the animals work hard no matter how the harsh conditions were. In relation to this, Stalin made loyal proletariat workers work hard until they got too tired and incompetent. Overall, both dictators governed their people ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Critic And Stigmatisms In Kate Chopin s The Awakening Critics and Stigmatisms It was not necessary for a writer of so great refinement and poetic grace to enter the overworked field of sex fiction , reviews following Chopin s literary awakening, (The Chicago Times Herald 1). The Awakening contains brilliant images, resilient protagonists, and vulgar sexuality. Kate Chopin utilizes potent imagery and burning sexual passion as character motives to transcend Edna Pontellier from social restrictions. A mold so bleak in nature that its oppressive grasp extends far beyond any one generation. The Awakening centers the main protagonists as individuals with complex desirers beyond generic characters. Chopin s The Awakening challenged the pseudo personas that society condemned the protagonist to uphold. The sensational appetite of Chopin s characters peeked into the feminine mentality. • 6. Sociological Theories Of A Nuclear Family In a sociological perspective, family is interpreted as a social group whose members are bound by legal, biological, or emotional ties or a combination of all three. The sociological theories the connect to this concept are functionalism, conflict theory, and symbolic interactionalism. First, functionalism states that the family socializes children, it provides emotional and practical support for its members, and it provides its members with a social identity. Secondly, conflict theory states that members create disagreements, and create emotional support and comfort. Finally, symbolic interactionism claims family members and intimate couples interact on a daily basis. Families are defined as a relationship by blood, marriage, or affection (Seccombe 5). My family is a nuclear family. A nuclear family consists of a mother, father and children living in one household. Every nuclear family has advantages and disadvantages in them. The advantages are strength and stability, financial stability, which equals more opportunity, consistency which means lucrative behavior, health benefits, conflict resolution and better communication skills. In my nuclear family, we incorporate these advantages to become a better family and to be brought closer together. The short story was well written and the film was well played, both are very similar. Although, they have a few differences the film and short story have the same mood and theme. Then compare the ways in which Sherriff presents the effects of war on the individual with the ways in which Hill shows the impact of war on characters in Strange Meeting . Hill s character, Colonel Garrett in Strange Meeting is similar to Stanhope in the sense that both characters are driven to excessive drinking by the effects of the war. Colonel Garrett has changed and also turned to drink, we know this as the prose reads that Hilliard was appalled; he had not dreamed that this could happen and so quickly to a man like Garrett . Despite this scene being the first time we are introduced to Colonel Garrett; Hill manages to present the impact the war has had on him through Hilliard s reaction to Garrett s new state of character. In contrast to Hill, Sheriff is less subtle in his presentation of Stanhope and the character himself admits his change. It is interesting to note that Garrett is minor within the novel whereas Stanhope is a major character in the play which shows the different ways in which each author chose to present the effect of alcohol within their text. A fast, competitive and difficult walk of life, where only the determined and hardworking succeed. Any form of physical exercise requires coordination, skill, strength and the basic motor movements. • 12. The Death Of The Moth In her essay The Death of the Moth , Virginia Woolf depicts the struggle of life confronting death through the death of a moth. Woolf sees a moth flying in a pleasant morning, mid September, mild, benignant (385). She uses this soft autumnal description of her morning to emphasize the beauty of life and the happiness one feels while being alive; however, she uses the moth to represent life itself and show its own struggles: [the moth] tried to fly across...the window pane , but he failed (386). She uses the moth s failure and awkwardness (386) to announce death s arrival and the moth s constant effort to keep flying to show a desperation to hang on to life. Why moth is so attached to life?. After perhaps a seventh attempt [the moth] slipped from the wooden ledge and fell, fluttering his wings, onto his back on the window sill (385). No matter how bad the consequences of the moth s attempts to fly, he was not going to surrender and after recognizing that there was something marvelous as well as pathetic about the moth due to his constants attempts to live, Woolf stretched out a pencil, meaning to help him to right himself , but when she notice the approach of death... [she] laid the pencil down again (385). Woolf s use of the pencil instead of her own fingers shows how fragile the life of the moth was and how careful she was trying to be to help the insignificant creature (385). Since the inmates were treated horribly for such a tremendous amount of time, it left images of the beatings they took, the never ending work they had to do, and the killing of their friends in their head. Two main points proven in Night by Elie Wiesel is how he created stronger bonds with people and how he lost faith in someone he use to praise and pray to every day. When going through a rough period of time, people may lose hope in their faith or religion. To start with, when the summer was wrapping up, Elie sees people praying and states, Why, but why would I bless him? Every fiber in me rebelled. Because he caused ... Certainly this may have come off as being rude, but this was a major help to Elie and his father. If they were to actually give up and tell their real jobs, this could have put them in the crematorium. The Nazis were looking for healthy, strong, and fit people. Since Ellie was young and his father was old at the time, they probably wouldn t have met the Nazis requirements. Likewise, another moment of hope was when Ellie shared his soup with his sick father and states Did you eat? No. They wouldn t give us anything... I gave him what was left of my soup. (Wiesel 107). Even though Elie is hungry too, he still managed to give up half of his soup. (Graph 5) Discussion It is evident from the survey that Australia is similar to the Philippines in terms of Uncertainty Avoidance. Both countries shared similar views and the majority of results were reasonable and not unusual. These two countries are seen as a safe place to live from the results of the survey. Geert Hofstede had his research on the comparison of Australia with the Philippines with Australia on 51 and Philippines on 44. This comparison is very close with a 6% difference and demonstrated the similarity of results between the two countries on the survey. The survey didn t have any obvious clues that could demonstrate a significant difference between Australia and the Philippines. Therefore it is seen that the uncertainty avoidance is alike between these two countries. Australia and the Philippines are seen as Safe Countries. When people travel to ... The Ending to Eugene O Neil s Long Day s Journey Into Night It is understandable that so many people in our class did not find the last act of Eugene O Neill s Long Day s Journey Into Night a satisfying one; there is no tidy ending, no goodbye kisses or murder confessions; none of the charaters leave the stage with flowers in their hands or with smiles on their faces and none of the characters give explanatory monologues after the curtain falls, as we ve become accustomed to by reading so much Shakespeare. In the beginnings of the play we are given the extreme circumstances surrounding the family that day: Edmund is to be diagnosed with consumption, Mary is to fall deeper and deeper into an addiction from which she supposedly recovered, and each of the characters is to unravel under the strain that all the stammering has placed upon them. We are given the impression that the events of the fourth act has never happened before; for example, even though he has lived with his father for more than twenty years, Edmund has never heard him speak the way he speaks to him in his final act, when his father tells him of how miserable he is now and how he was so muh happier as a struggling, young actor than as a commerial success. What ensues is pure hilarity as his henchman shouts back up in pain that he is not dead and would like someone to help him. This brings comic relief to the audience, and then suddenly they hear a gun shot and expecting there to be silence the audience hears the henchman shout, You shot me in my arm! In the case of tripping because of a current overload, MCBs are very easy to reset, which is much simpler to do that having to replace blown fuses. MCBs also trip to stop the current from flowing much faster than fuses can operate. Essentially everything that we have learned in the class has been new to me because I do not have any prior experience with American religion, since my other Religious Studies class focused on Asian and Native American religions. Growing up I never went to church growing up, but I was baptized, but never understood what that meant. I do no think of myself who is involved or a part of any religion. The fact that I am unfamiliar makes the class very challenging for me, but it is also a good type of challenge because it makes me work harder to understand all the topics discussed in class and it makes me really have to think deeper about all the topics. Not being associated with any religion is also helpful because I can be an outsider and not have a biased opinion and not have to choose a side of the different religious perspectives. Religion seems like it is a very complex topic, where a lot of religions in America have different sects and each sect has a different background. I knew that Christianity was the most popular religion in America, but I did not know about all the different sects and that Christianity as a whole is the faith of over 70% of Americans and that most of the other 30% is made up of people who are unaffiliated with any religion. • 22. Investigating The Victimization Of Persons With Mental... Abstract This paper explores two published articles that investigate the victimization of persons with Mental Retardation (MR). Specifically, this paper examined the differences between MR and mental illness, the risk of victimization and the nature of victimization for persons with MR, factors contributing to the risk of victimization for persons with MR, and perpetrators of victimization against persons with MR. Studies have found several influences contributing to the risk of victimization for persons with MR including victim related factors, relationship factors and environmental factors. Together, these findings suggest that persons with MR are at a higher risk of being victimized. The Effects of Victimization on Persons with Mental Retardation Mental Retardation (MR) is a developmental disability along with autism, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, and learning disabilities (Petersilia, 2001). Specifically, MR is defined as significant limitations in intellectual functioning and adaptive skills in two or more areas: self care, social skills, home living and other fundamental issues for life functioning (Nettlebeck Wilson, 2002; Petersilia, 2001). Such limitations should originate before age 18 and are commonly presented at birth. An IQ level below 70 is also used as a criterion for measuring intellectual functioning in individuals with MR (Nettlebeck Wilson, 2002; Petersilia, 2001). Distinctions exist between MR and mental illness. For example, a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 24. The History and Evoluition of Dance Modern dance was created as a rebellion against the prevalent dance forms of the time, ballet and Vaudeville. It is a form of theatrical dance, known for its continual fusion of non western style and ideas, which allows for a fresh source of movement inspiration. Choreographers rejected what they classified as the inflexible and imperialistic nature of ballet, and in order to be taken seriously as artists rather than simple entertainers they created a new art form. Artists Loie Fuller, Isadora Duncan, and Ruth St. Denis are considered to be the pioneers of modern dance in America. Dance is a social institution, recognized as being an important function in civilized life. The following essay will focus on the theory and work of artist Isadora Duncan, while incorporating lecture notes and articles of both authors Sally Bane and Ann Daly to explain the historical situations that culminated in the development of early modern dance. Arising from the 20th century modern dance was a form of cultural collaboration and exploration, as well as a resistance to colonial repression. Modern dance allowed for the experimentation of the new as well as a freer form of dance movement. Choreographers drew on exotic sources, and example of this illustrated in the work of Isadora Duncan with her use of Greek culture as a movement inspiration. Artists act as both the choreographer and performer creating their own conventions, or dance language. The history of the past relates to the history of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Foxes are known for their cunning, and slyness. They are often portrayed as beady eyed tricksters whose goal is to harm someone. One reason for this is because of their resilient ability to survive. No matter what is thrown at them, or what conditions they must live in, they always stand strong. One of the most resolute of them all is the small but fierce fennec fox. The fennec fox is the smallest canine in the world, ranging from 9 to 16 inches in length and weighing only 2 to 3 pounds (World book. Fennec). These endearing creatures don t look like your typical beady eyed tricksters. In fact, their big brown eyes look quite a bit like melted chocolate. During mating season, the males often get into skirmishes with each other, as they are overprotective of their mates. Fennec foxes are monogamous, which means they have one mate for their whole life. The government has proposed alternatives to diminishing consumption so that violence might decrease in our society, but with this they also want to understand the influence violent video games have on today s youth. • 27. The Importance Of Imagination In Childhood My article talks about Cleo, who is 4 years old. Cleo came home one day from school and was talking to her mom what she did that day and Cleo said, we drank purple milk that came from a purple cow. Now that s imagination. Kids that imagine things are far better off to learn quicker than other kids. With imagination, they can picture things that they haven t seen before and put a picture to the words. Every kid has an imagination, just that when they get older they find out that things are exactly what they imagined. For example, the purple cow, when Cleo gets older and can understand more her mom will tell her that the cow isn t actually purple nor is the milk. Parents find joy in their children when they have an imagination because it shows that they have the skill to think about things. When kids use their imagination, it is important for them to know that there is a difference between real and pretend. Imagination is more important than knowledge, Einstein once said. With imagination anything is possible. The thinking cap of children is expressed through their dynamic pretend mode. This is where kids learn more about everything in the world, is with their imagination. Imagination encourages cognitive and social development, something every child needs in the real world. when kids are playing with their toys, they are putting themselves in a situation in the real world that they have no idea about because it is just their imagination taking them somewhere. ... Capitalism as it s also called, is a system which uses the investment of money, or capital , to produce profits. This system was introduced and implemented in the year 1250 through the 1500 s. Under this revolution the people were split into a caste. The Church, The Monarch, and The Nobility took the upper class while those who worked under them were known as the Middle class. One of the ruling classes was the Church. the Church became one of Europe s dominant powers when Rome fell in the year 476. The power of the Church grew with the weakening of Rome s secular influences. The ensuing regional isolation in turn led to a dividing trend in which the various reaches of the Empire, particularly the distant regions increasingly had to resort to provincial self reliance. • 36. Bae Automated Systems Case Study Essay In the early 1980 s, Denver experienced significant economic growth due to the booming oil, real estate, and tourism industries. The major airport that operated within Denver during that time was the Stapleton Airport. Up to 1970, the Stapleton Airport was able to accommodate the demands of Denver but in subsequent years it was unable to meet the ever growing needs of the city. The Stapleton Airport was seen as a liability and limited the attractiveness of businesses that were swarming to it. Issues with handling high traffic volume, disruptions in connection schedules, and an overall poor airport layout led the city of Denver to decide whether they wanted to expand or replace the Stapleton Airport. While BAE was already working on United s baggage system, the PMT recognized the need for a fully integrated baggage handling system for all of DIA. Since no other airlines were emerging with plans to develop their own baggage system, airport planners and consultants drew up plans for an airport wide baggage handling system and sent out request for bids to several different companies. Initially BAE declined to bid on the project due to one main reason; the technology required to operate a system of such a large size and complexity should be determined very early in the project life cycle. BAE had the technology that was needed (destination coded vehicles moving at high speed) but implementing this technology into such a complex project would have required much more time then was available. Going against their better judgment, BAE presented the city of Denver with a proposal to develop the most intricate automated baggage system ever built. The plan was to be very effective in delivering baggage quickly, reliable in its operation, and extremely flexible. This type of system would save ground time, decrease close out time for hub operations, and reduce time in sorting and handling baggage. Although more expensive than an uncomplicated tug and baggage cart system, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They say Social Security will begin paying out more in benefits than it collects in revenue. To continue meeting its obligations, the system will have to begin drawing on the surplus in the Social Security Trust Fund. However, for many years the federal government has used the trust to disguise the actual size of the federal budget deficit, borrowing money from the trust fund to pay current operating expenses and replacing the money with government bonds, essentially an IOU. The transition from an agrarian and feudal system of production to an industrial and capitalistic system brought about many changes to the lives of Europeans. Some of these changes include gender issues, immigration, medicine, the rise of liberal and socialist politics, and the rise of some famous political movements. In the following essay I will expand upon some of the many ramifications that industrialization brought to fruition. The middle class may have seen some positive changes during this time period, but the working class was not nearly as fortunate. Conditions for the working class were terrible and unsanitary. Many working class families were crowded into small apartments with dirt floors, no indoor plumbing, and their general lot in life was quite miserable. I remember our book talking about the filth from chamber pots, the mold and mildew that grew rampantly inside these dwellings, and the lack of sanitation. Their diet was also a sad tale. While the middle class could afford beef and sugar, the working class was forced to subsist mainly on bread. This lack of protein and necessary vitamins and minerals would have put them at a much higher risk for disease and malnutrition. The division in quality of life gave rise to a set of political principles and ideologies known as liberalism. The liberal movement in thought, politics, and social constructs can be seen in popular political movements of the mid nineteenth century. The Charter Movement in Great Britain can be seen as an example of the liberal democratic movements. Essay On Afro-Black Slavery The South was in desperate need of workers in the time before the mid seventeenth century; however their help arrived in the mid seventeenth century in the form of black workers. There once was an idea that the Afro Black race was the only eligible people that should populate the system of slavery in America. Afro Black slavery in the United States of America has been argued in two ways by historians and researchers. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the two points that one side asking if slavery was the result of white racism and the other side asking if white racism was a result of slavery. The second point was rather or not white racism was a result of slavery. In the year of 1950, an influential article was published by Oscar and Mary Handlin. Their article compared slavery to the other ways of bondage, by discussing that what separated slavery from other ideals and ways of service was that it was only limited to the African people, it was a permanent ordeal, and that it was inherited from one generation to another. • 42. Analysis Of The Ones Who Walk Away From House Of The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas is not a utopian story, but it assumes the reader is well aware of them. In acknowledging the foibles inherent to the genre, mainly the difficulty in describing an ideal society in a world where such a thing is still being argued and defined, it invites the reader to make his or her best attempt at filling in the gaps. Complicity established, the story puts a living price tag on this beautiful ideal, asking if such a thing could be justified. Most rational observers would say No and take the proffered option of walking away from the city, but this too is ultimately a shortsighted choice. Omelas cannot be merely ignored, it must be destroyed and remade, a responsibility that rests squarely on those it benefited. Described to us by a nameless narrator, Omelas is reminiscent of many a shining city on the hill, descriptions of which can often seem cloying and saccharine. Yet Omelas is not a place of simple folk ... noble savages, bland utopians. (Le Guin, 612.) It is not a place that eliminates vice, but rather a place where vice does no harm. Even in the moments when citizens are at their least controlled, they remain kind and compassionate. In Omelas there are no offenses resulting in the instilment of guilt, because the admission of guilt, honest and consuming, would ensure the city s destruction. Imbedded deep into the citizenry s subconscious, it is this unspoken guilt that gives Omelas its soul. Whether an individual chooses to never ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Then on part 2 he further discusses that whether there are distinction between higher pleasure and lower pleasure? This issue started with the discussion of utilitarianism who was founded by Jeremy Bentham. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Based on Jeremy Bentham, he believe that we can measure pleasure, The magnitude of a pleasure is the duration multiplied by the intensity of the pleasure. (Archie, 1). Therefore the highest pleasure is simply just pleasure that give you the strongest intensity and longest duration. Bentham also said in one of his famous quote quantity of pleasure being equal, pushpin is as good as poetry. In my opinion what Bentham is trying to say is that whatever things we choose to do is the higher pleasure, quality doesn t matter, but the quantity is important. However, John Stuart Mill disagree with Bentham. He believe that quality of pleasure is important Mill himself presents the claim that mental pleasures are better than physical to be because humans prefer to exist in a way that engages their higher faculties (Mill 56). We are unwilling to sink low due to our dignity as humans (Mill 57). We are not swine, to be satisfied with the pleasure of pigs. (Bhardwaj, 5). Mill believe that reading a book is higher pleasure than playing video games and to know that, human need education. But, he also noted that sometimes people chooses lower pleasure over the higher pleasure but the fact is, deep down in their mind the other choices are still a higher pleasure. In my opinion, I believe in Jeremy Bentham s way of measuring pleasure, because I believe that whatever we chooses to do is the one with a higher pleasure. For example, reading Shakespeare or sitting at home playing video games, many people would choose to play video game rather than Shakespeare because most people would feel that video give out most pleasure but Shakespeare would give people a headache rather than ...
