My Writing Process Essay
Crafting an essay on the topic "My Writing Process" can prove to be quite challenging, primarily
because it requires a deep level of introspection and self-awareness. Describing one's personal
approach to writing demands a thorough examination of one's habits, strategies, strengths, and
weaknesses in the realm of composition. This task becomes even more intricate when considering
the need for clarity and coherence in conveying these insights to the reader.
Moreover, articulating the intricacies of one's writing process necessitates a balance between
providing specific examples and general principles. Striking this balance requires careful
consideration to ensure that the essay remains engaging and informative without delving into
unnecessary detail or becoming overly abstract.
Additionally, the inherent subjectivity of the writing process adds another layer of complexity.
What works for one individual may not necessarily apply to another, making it challenging to
offer universally applicable advice or insights.
Furthermore, the act of self-reflection involved in writing about one's writing process can be
daunting. It requires confronting personal habits, preferences, and areas for improvement, which
can be a daunting task for some writers.
Despite these challenges, composing an essay on "My Writing Process" offers a valuable
opportunity for self-discovery and growth as a writer. By examining and articulating the
strategies and techniques employed in the writing process, individuals can gain a deeper
understanding of their craft and potentially identify areas for refinement.
In conclusion, while writing an essay on "My Writing Process" presents several challenges due to
its introspective nature and subjective elements, it also offers a rewarding opportunity for self-
reflection and improvement as a writer.

Bacterial Meningitis Essay
There are three different types of meningitis; viral, fungal, and bacterial meningitis.
Although not as common as viral meningitis, bacterial meningitis is more likely to
leave individuals with permanent disabilities. In children, disabilities can range from
deafness, hearing loss, and cerebral palsy? the most common after effects. And in
adults, septic shock, brain swelling, and hydrocephalus are most likely to occur if the
disease advances without treatment within a sufficient time period. The three main
bacteria responsible for bacterial meningitisare streptococcus pneumoniae,
haemophilus influenza type B (Hib), and neisseria meningitidis.
Hib meningitis is an infection caused by a bacteria called, Haemophilus influenza
serotype ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the 1930s, infant mortality because of bacterial meningitis caused by
Haemophilus influenza type B was almost at one hundred percent. But with the
onset of antibiotics in the 1960s, the mortality rate was reduced to a mere range of
five to ten percent. Thirty percent of survivors were often left with defects such as
deafness, blindness, seizures, and mental retardation(Mark A. Herbert, ed. Derek W.
Hood, ed. E. Richard Moxon, ed. Haemophilus influenza Protocols , 29?30). Anyone
can carry the bacterium. The bacteria are found dormant in the back of their nose
and throat. Though they are dormant in the carrier, the carrier can still pass them on
to another person through ways such as: kissing, coughing, sneezing, sharing a cup,
utensil, lip gloss, or cigarette. In other words, through the exchange of respiratory
and throat secretions. Some of these ways of transmission are the core reasons as to
why this disease is more prevalent in children under five years of age (Common
Bacterial Hib).
Streptococcus pneumoniae is a gram positive bacterium that is a normal inhabitant of
the human respiratory tract. This bacterium is present in the nasopharyngeal region
of five to ten percent of healthy adults and twenty to forty percent of healthy children
and causes no harm to the individuals whatsoever. But it can attack the body by
escaping the host?s defenses and phagocytic mechanisms through choroid plexus
seeding from bacterium or through direct extension
Wealth and Happiness
Wealth and happiness
The human kind has always strived towards power, and wealth is one of the
necessities for those who want this power. However, nowadays many seek wealth,
because they want the freedom that money can grant, and thus become happier. Some
people tend overrate how much happier they will get by becoming rich. That leads to
the question: Can you buy happiness?
1.
In the first text, David Brooks tries to explain the correlation between wealth and
happiness. With Sandra Bullock s experience as an example, he tries to prove his
point that getting richer only will make you a little bit happier, as in the USA, where
the country has gotten a lot richer during the last 50 years, but not happier than
before. However, he does ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another thing he does is giving his personal opinion: Nonetheless, if you had to take
more than three seconds to think about this question you are absolutely crazy . This
will either make us agree or disagree. No matter what it makes us think, maybe even
after we have read the article, and thus he has engaged us in the problem and the text.
3.
Whether spending money brings happiness or not, depends on the individual.
Many believe that getting rich will automatically make you happier. According to
Peter Singer, and his data from Science there is practically no correlation between
money and happiness. Moreover, he claims that rich people are spending more
time on activities, which are associated with negative feelings. This is probably
because of their job that might be more stressful and have more work hours, than
those who do not earn quite as much have. Although this might be a bad deal in the
short run, exchanging happiness for money. In the long run it can result in a
greater feeling of joy, than it would ever have been possible, by giving up on the
well paying, but stressful job, to live a more poor, but happier life. The Warren
Buffet incident is a perfect example. Not only thinking about the happiness he got
for himself, but also the millions of persons whose lives was improved or even saved
by Buffet.
In addition, when people have acquired a large amount of money, the way they spend
it can have an impact on how much happier they will become.
South Carolina Dbq
The Secession of South Carolina was on December 20th, 1860. This was when the
state of South Carolina drafted the Declaration of the Immediate Causes Which
Induce and Justify the Secession of South Carolina from the Federal Union this
meant that South Carolina was repealing its ratification of the U.S. Constitution.
South Carolinadid this because they felt that the federal government of the Union was
not obeying the Constitution and going against it. They believed that the states had
equal and separate control of its own state and government itself, and they could also
claim slaves as their property and the constitution says that they have the right to do
whatever they want with their property. As for the repercussions of this South

One of them was that they were the first to fall in a line of dominoes in which
more and more states of the south will open their eyes and secede from the Union.
As said by WIECEK, WILLIAM M In it, the Carolinian accused the free states of
violation or half hearted enforcement of the Fugitive Slave Acts, tolerating
abolitionists agitation, and electing a presidential candidate pledged to eventual
abolition of slavery therefore South Carolina declared itself an Independent State,
with full power to levy war, conclude peace, contract alliances, establish commerce,
and to do all other acts and things which the independent states may right do (South
Carolina Ordinance of Secession (1860) 1). This quote explains to us that South
Carolina seceded and left the union, for these reasons. Now, in that time more states
will see and realize that South Carolina was right and that they shouldn t be the only
ones that should leave the union but every slave state should leave the union to create
the confederate states of america. This was the beginning of the war and all there was
left to do was
Themes in Shakespeare s Othello Essay
Othello was written by Jacobean playwright William Shakespeare in 1603. It proved
a huge success when first performed in 1604, in front of a huge audience. The story
is one of Shakespeare s great tragedy themed plays. Othello is the black protagonist
and highly esteemed Venetian general. Iago is the ambitious but scheming villain of
the play. When Othellopromotes a man called Michael Cassio over Iago, he is furious
and launches a malicious campaign against Othello. Meanwhile, Othello has married
a white woman, Desdemona, without her father knowing. Through Iago s plotting,
Othello suspects that his wife is having an affair and after many murders and plots,
Othello smothers his wife. But he finds out the truth about Iago, and horrified at...

He will take advantage of Othello and is using him for his own means.
Shakespeare wrote this to foreshadow the future, creating tension, because the
audience know there is dishonesty and deception to follow. This is supported by
the quote: in following him, I follow but myself I am not who I am . It y shows
you that Iago does not wear his heart on his sleeve. The word master sounds
mocking, as if Iago is going to betray Othello so this creates tension. So the themes
of hate and appearance vs. reality are introduced through Iago s dialogue. Iago
expresses his hate for Othello He says: ...I do hate him as I do hell pains . The
simile hate explains how much Iago loathes Othello. He compared hatred to hell.
The modern audience aren t as affected by the reference to hell, but the Jacobean
audience would feel the true extent of Iago s hatred. The setting of act one also
contributes to the hatred felt in the play. It is dark and there is a sense of mystery,
creates a tense and dramatic atmosphere. Words such as: despise devil and hell
support this. The references to hell would have made the Jacobean audience weary.
Iago s evil soliloquy is full of hatred and revenge: Hell and night must bring this
monstrous birth to the worlds light . The dark, evil images create a strong reaction in
both audiences. ...to the worlds light indicates scheming will start, doubt will surface.
...monstrous indicates the idea in Iago s head is like a

Two migrant workers, George and Lennie, have been let off of a bus a ways away
from the California ranch where they are due to start work. George is a small, dark
man with sharp, strong features. Lennie, his companion, is his opposite, a massive
man with a shapeless face. To slake their thirst, the two stop in a clearing by a pool
and decide to stay for the night. As the two talk, it becomes clear that Lennie is
deeply devoted to George and reliant upon him for protection and guidance. George
finds that Lennie, who loves feeling soft things but often accidentally murders them,
has been carrying and stroking a dead mouse. George complains noisily that his life

and the other ranchers continue trying to convince Candy to kill his old dog.
When Slim agrees with them, saying that death would be a welcome release to the
miserable animal, Candy gives in. One of the ranchers swears that it will be done
painlessly. Slim goes to the barn to tend to the horses, and Curley, who is
frenziedly searching for his wife, heads to the barn to waylay Slim. Candy
overhears George and Lennie talking about their plans to purchase land, and offers
his life s savings if they will let him come with them. The three make a agreement
to let no one else know of their plan. Slim arrives back at the bunkhouse, scolding
Curley for his suspicions. Curley, looking for an easy conduit for his anger, finds
Lennie and decides to fight him. Lennie crushes Curley s hand in the brawl. Slim
cautions Curley that if he tries to get George and Lennie fired, he will be the butt of
all the jokes on the farm. The next night, most of the men go to the nearby brothel.
Lennie is left with Crooks, the lonesome, black stable hand, and Candy. Curley s
wife flirts with them, deciding not to leave until the others get back. She sees the

Total Equality Analysis
The Societal Problems of Total Equality
I m the Greatest man you ll never know (2081). Harrison Bergeron was indeed the
greatest character never known in his society. 2081 and Harrison Bergeron tell of the
futuristic society who citizens that excel in normal activities are handicapped to meet
the normal population standards. In Harrison Bergeron and the short film 2081, the
author and director use similar and different plot structures and characteristics. Each
similarity and difference show that limiting variation in a society is dangerous.
Harrison Bergeron and the short film 2081 have many similar elements in plot
structure and characteristics. For example, The year was 2081, and everybody was
finally equal. They weren t only equal before the law. They were equal in every
which way (Vonnegut 38). 2081 choose to incorporate the same beginning narration
in the short story. This element sets up the viewer s expectations for the plot and
contributes to the idea of what Vonnegut portrays as the conflict of interest in the
story. Harrison does not want society to be equal and tries to overthrow the
government to change that because he sees the problems with total equality in
society. In addition, both the film and short story show how handicaps negatively
affect society through Harrison father, George. In 2081, George is shown with a
handicap that plays sharp sounds such as a pin hitting a milk bottle to impair his
thought process. This detail shows how the

Stewardship In Ancient Egypt
Stewardship is the term used to describe the activity of a steward. A steward was
one who controlled the possessions of his master. His role was a very responsible
one, and it was vital that he be a person of honest character. The possibilities for theft
or misuse of his master s possessions were great.
As we look at the principles concerning the steward we will see that true stewardship
involves how we deal with the resources God has entrusted to us. This includes our
money, time, possessions, bodies, families and ministry. From the beginning we see
that God had provided for mankind, and has the desire to see man responsibly
disperse his provision. While the forms of administration have changed over time, the
principle remains the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He lived in Potiphar s house and directed both Potiphar s household and his fields.
But the story of his temptation by Potiphar s wife clearly shows that Joseph never
forgot that all these things belonged to his master and that there were limits to what
he could do. He could enjoy the fruits of his labor as long as his master was pleased
with his stewardship, and as long as he did not sin against Potiphar.
Later, Joseph again was made a steward, first of the jailer and then of Pharaoh
himself. As steward of Pharaoh, he was the wealthiest man in Egypt after Pharaoh.
However his position depended on his faithfulness to administrate the affairs of
Pharaoh in a manner that pleased Pharaoh. The Apostle Paul also clearly taught
that we are stewards of Christ. Church leaders are especially responsible to
minister the mysteries of God (1Co 4:1 2; Eph 3:2; Tit 1:7). He also taught that our

faithful in our service for Him (Ro 14:4 12; 2Co 5:10). Each of these passages is
specifically addressed to Christians. The fact that Jesus will judge believers is even
more clear in 1Corinthians 3:10 15. In that text, Paul describes how fire will test our

The Light Of Catholic Social Teaching Essay
The Catholic Church believes that human life and human dignity go hand in hand.
A threat to one is an equal threat to the other. The Catechism of the Catholic
Church teaches that, The equality of men rests essentially on their dignity as
persons and the rights that flow from it (1935). The Second Vatican Council in
Gaudium et Spes recognized that, ...any kind of social or cultural discrimination in
basic personal rights on the grounds of sex, race, color, social conditions, language
or religion, must be curbed and eradicated as incompatible with God s design (29).
In other words, humans were created in God s image and from that we acquire our
dignity and rights because of that holy and sacred origin. The plan was meant for all
to enjoy a basic equality and yet due to sin, the evil of racismhas been allowed to
permeate humanity, thus helping to deny humandignity and human rights. In the light
of Catholic social teaching (CST), one asks the questions, in what ways does racism
help to deny mankind its rights and dignity, and what are we as the Church doing to
help combat this scourge on our communities and on society? Whether one calls it
racism, xenophobia, or prejudice, all humans have an innate tendency to pre judge
others based external characteristics. This becomes a problem when we allow these
observations to become stereotypes where all of one particular community or group
are broadly painted by these subjective observations, normally negative. As
Julius Caesar Rhetorical Analysis Essay
Murder can be defined as the unlawful premeditated killing of one human being by
another. In Shakespeare s Julius Caesar, Brutus and his conspirators murder Caesar
and convince the people of Rome that it was a justified act. Mark Antony, a friend of
Caesar, seeks justice for his dear friend. In his funeral speech Antony uses rhetorical
strategies to persuade the Romans that Caesar s death was unjustified. Through
persuasion, Antony uses the strategies: rhetorical questions, verbal irony and the
appeal of pathos to sway the Romans to believe that Caesar s murder was unjust.
Furthermore, Antony s use of rhetorical questions has an effect on the opinions of the
citizens of Rome. Antony effectively uses rhetorical questions to get the Romans to
agree that Caesar s murder was unjustified. He asks rhetorical questions in order to
get the people to consider what he is saying and possibly change their minds. After

crowd s attention on Caesar s body and tells them how his murder was a product of

clearly affected by Antony s use of pathos when they respond with O piteous

because they are starting to want revenge for Caesar s unjustified

they could never have been married because of their social differences. It is a
passionate, but brief affair between two married people from different social classes

Comparing Beowulf And Thor As An Epic Hero
Throughout history the definition of a hero has stayed relatively the same: a person
admired for their courage, strength, loyalty, and achievements. Beowulf and Thor
might seem like they are very similar heroes, but they have a large amount of
differences too. Thor is a god that has help from cosmic and mystical powers, while
Beowulfis a human with some superhuman abilities. These two heroes may have
many differences between them, but they both still meet the expectations of a hero.
Thor is the god of lightning and thunder, son of Odin and Gaea. Banished to Earth
he fights for a worthwhile cause: protecting humanity. He has great strength,
endurance, and resistance to injury. He is also extremely long lived (though not
immune to aging) and immune to conventional disease. His skin and bones are
denser than a regular human. Being a skilled warrior, highly proficient in hand to
hand combat, swordsmanship, and hammer throwing are some of the skills he
possess ( Thor ). Beowulf is great warrior who fights to protect the Danes and the

Research Paper On Harriet Tubman
Harriet Tubman (1820 1913)
Harriet Tubman is probably the most famous conductor of all the Underground
Railroads. Throughout a 10 year span, Tubman made more than 20 trips down to the
South and lead over 300 slaves from bondage to freedom. Perhaps the most shocking
fact about Tubman s journeys back and forth from the South was that she never lost a
single passenger.
Harriet Tubman was born into slavery in Maryland around 1820. By the time
Tubman had reached the age of 5 or 6, she started working as a servant in her master
s household. Approximately seven years after she began working as a servant,
Tubman was sent to work out in the fields. While Tubman was still a teenager, she

Tubman left on foot. Luckily, Tubman was given some assistance from a white
woman, and was able to set off on her journey to freedom. Tubman used the North

Pennsylvania. Once Tubman had reached Pennsylvania, she found a job and began
to save her money. The following year after arriving to Philadelphia, Tubman
returned to Maryland and to lead her family to freedom. Among the people she took
was her sister and her sister s two children. Tubman was able to make the same
dangerous trips months later back to the South to rescue her brother and two other
men that her brother knew. On Tubman s third return to the South to rescue her

actions, she rescued other slaves wanting freedom and lead them Northward.
Harriet Tubman repeated this journey between the North and South over and over

Near Earth Object Essay
Topic #2: Near Earth Objects
Though not mentioned in the news and talks of society, near earth objects (NEOs)
are an international threat for countries worldwide. A NEO is a meteoroid, asteroid,
or comet pushed by the gravitational attraction of nearby planets, potentially entering
the earth s orbit and thereby pose a danger of collision. Space agencies around the
world express the universal outlook that NEOs must be somehow controlled or

In regards to the solutions for this issue, Austria welcomes the assistance of other

countries will be presumed as responsible for the NEOs affecting them if they choose
not to apply for assistance. The UN SPIDER is precisely the platform to use for the

Difference Between Motivation And Extrinsic Motivation
Introduction
Motivation is defined as the desire to do something or behave in a certain way to
pursue work tasks and goals. There are two primary theories of motivation that
employers often use Extrinsic Motivation and Intrinsic Motivation.
Extrinsic Motivation refers to external factors that cause an employee to act towards
completing their tasks or attainment of goals. Usually, employee behavior in that way
to earn a reward or to avoid a consequence; punishment. Examples are monetary
rewards.
On the other hand, Intrinsic Motivation refers to motivation that comes from within
the employee. Basically, the work itself motivates the employee because it is

simple throughout the film. The mystery of who controls the horseman makes the
audience question who is good and who is evil. For example when it seems that

horseman is shown as evil and is shown as such through various techniques. The
horseman s invincibility due to being dead is used to convey that he is one

Alcohol s Sedative Analysis
According Roehrs and his colleagues of their research, alcohol s sedative and
performance disruptive effects can be attenuated by enhancing the basal level of
alertness after alcohol consumption (Roehrs). It means that after drinking we would
experience sleepiness that makes an individual dangerous to drive. Alcoholaffects has
the same severity to some neurotransmitter systems and sedative drugs do (Roehrs).
For example, alcohol facilitates GABA mediated inhibition (acts as GABA agonist)
and reduces the release of acetylcholine (acts as acetylcholine antagonist).
Consequently, alcohol could mimic the effects of other sedative drugs (Roehrs).
Alcohol affects serotonin and glutamate; these two transmitters regulate sleep and
wakefulness. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that is in charge of of sleep.

Biological Weapons And Chemical Weapons
Abstract
Biochemical weapons distribute deadly toxins and microorganisms, such as viruses
and bacteria, with the intent too inflict disease among humans, animals, and
agriculture. Biochemical attacks could in fact result in destruction of food plots,
temporarily upsetting a small community, and killing large amounts of people, or
more outcomes. The way that a biochemical weapon is dispersed depends on many
factors. Such as: the agent itself; the preparation; its durability; and route of
infection. most agents can be spread as an aerosol, which means the agent can be
inhaled or can infect a susceptible place on the skin, like a cut or wound. Attackers

They supposedly spread the bubonic plague in St. Petersburg, Russia, infected mules
with Glanders disease in Mesopotamia, and attempted to do the same with the horses
of the French Cavalry. The allied forces even experimented with chemical weapons
during World War 1, with agents such as mustard gas. Mustard gas is a substance
that, when inhaled causes the victim to asphyxiate and perish. When the substance
makes contact with the eyes it causes a burning sensation, the deadly gas can even
cause blindness if the eyes are exposed to it long enough. (Wiggins, 2009)
A large amount of countries have started or continued offensive biological weapons
research and development . as well, since the 1980s, terrorist groups have become
users of biological agents due to there high effectiveness and cheap price. Usually,
these cases amount only to hoaxes. However, the following exceptions have been
noted: In 1985, Iran began an offensive biochemical weapons program involving
anthrax, Botulinum toxin, and Aflatoxin. (Schnieder, 2015) During Operation Desert
Storm, the combination of allied forces faced the threat of chemical and biological
agents. After the Persian Gulf War, Iran announced that it had bombs, Scud missiles,
122 mm rockets, and artillery shells equipped with Botulinum toxin, anthrax, and
aflatoxin. They also had mist tanks fitted to many aircraft that could distribute

How Did France Build The Panama Canal
The Panama Canal was originally started back in the 1880s by the French and is
considered by some to be the 8th Wonder of the World. Construction may have
started in the 1880s, but the idea for such a canal started long before that time.
Surveying for the canal started all the way back in the 1550s. The idea for such a
canal came from how inconvenient travel and trade was without the canal. Ships
used to have to travel all the way around the southern tip of South America to travel
between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. The French finally decided to try and
build a canal between the two oceans after over 300 years of different surveys
being down around the area. The French chose to build the canal through Panama.
There were close to 22,000 deaths caused by disease or accidents in the construction
of the canal. The French were plagued by Malaria, or yellow fever, and were given
many setbacks throughout their 9 year effort to build the canal. This combined with
the French attempt going bankrupt caused them to have to give up on the try. The
United Statesthen came to agreement and signed the Hay Pauncefote Treaty with the
French, officially... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Culebra Cut has low crushing strength opposed to high crushing strength. This
causes the rock to deform or sink near the excavation sight. This is just part of the
disturbance caused when the Culebra Cut was made. This usually was the beginning
of making man made landslides during the construction of the cut. The end result of

excavation and slides caused by excavation created new slopes at the Culebra Cut
and since it has low strength the angle of repose is permanent. In addition to the low
strength of rock at the cut, the physical and chemical properties of the rock provided

Examples Of Imagery In The Book Night
Imagery In Elie Wiesel s Novel Night In the novel Night written by Elie Wiesel
there are many graphic descriptions that leave you horrified and utterly shocked. By
using this descriptive imagery Wiesel helped form the purpose and tone
throughout the troubled memoir. During WWII Hitler, the leader of Germany and
conqueror of many other areas surrounding Germany, he and his army targeted the
jewish community and took extreme measures to try and eradicate them. In
chapter 2 of the memoir, as Wiesel and his family along with many other jews are
trained away to Auschwitz, a woman, Mrs. Schachter, begins to see fire and screams
relentlessly for days at a fire no one could see except for her, Jews listen to me, she
cried. I see a fire! I see... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the memoir, Wiesel often uses it s beyond words to describe some of the awful
things he witnessed and went through as a young man. Wiesel often spared some
details when telling of some of the things he saw leaving it up to our imaginations,
for instance, Behind me, an old man fell to the ground. Near him was an SS man,
putting his revolver back in its holster (Wiesel 2006) Wiesel never said the officer
had shot the man, but infers it and let s our minds fly with the few possibilities.
The purpose of doing this may be accredited to the fact that Wiesel had to put
remarkably horrifying human experiences into words and with that created a style
of letting the readers mind fill the blanks. Wiesel, also uses this style of writing
after having just seen a son let his father fall in front of him without a word My
God, Lord of the Universe, give me strength never to do what Rabbi Eliahou s son
has done. (Wiesel 2006), as the memoir progresses his father grows more unhealthy
and weak and eventually passes leaving Wiesel almost relieved he can survive on
his own and fight for one, he regrets it many years later in

When Sarah s aunt told me this story I thought she was being silly. A long time ago
Jane had a new baby, a new house, and no husband. She was lucky when her sister
Eloise offered to come stay with her and help out, until her husband returned from
working in Alberta. The sisters had almost finished unpacking, but Eloise found one
small box, labeled for the baby, that sat alone in the dark hallway.
Jane, what s in here? Eloise asked.
I can t remember, Jane said, looking at the label. Kate s got so much stuff. Open it,
and have a look.
Eloise got a knife and carefully sliced through the red packing tape, and lifted the
box s lid. Inside lay a number ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jane did you put on one of the tapes?
No one answered her.
Eloise figured Jane had already gone back to bed. She crept into the room, and
looked around for the tape player. The music had already stopped, but Eloise looked
around the room anyway.
Kate looked like a cherub asleep in her cot. Black curls fanned her pillow, and Kate
pursed her lips together in a little frown.
I know, said Eloise, stroking Kate s cheek with her finger. It s cold, but we ll get
that sorted. Eloise pulled a blanket off a chair, and lovingly covered her niece with
it. She then went back to her own room, and promptly fell asleep.
The next morning Eloise sat with her sister, while Jane fed the baby pureed carrots.
Kate resembled a jack o lantern, her face was caked in orange and she was smiling
naughtily.
Jane, did you put on one of the tapes last night? Eloise asked.
No, why?
I thought I heard music last night.
You must have been dreaming, smiled Jane. I wish I slept that well.
I must have been, I thought I heard a little girl singing.
Well, I generally prefer more adult dreams, but I guess any good dream will do. I
only get pockets of sleep these days.
It didn t feel like a good dream, Eloise said.
Was the little girl trying to kill you? Jane teased, wiping the baby s mouth with a
cloth.
No, but it sounded odd. Too pretty.
Well at least the kid wasn t crying, Jane said.
Yeah, Eloise said, biting her bottom lip.

Comparing Luke s Gospel And Matthew
The Gospel Writer
The story of Jesus heals a Roman officer s servant was written in he book of Luke
and Matthew. The only Gentile Christian writer of the New Testament was Luke.
Gospel of Luke is the third of the four Gospels of the New Testament, which tells the
story of Jesus. Luke did not live during Jesus life, but he investigated his life very
carefully. Matthew s gospel was written just after Luke s in 90 A.D. Matthew s
Gospel was written in Greek because many parts of the Gospel are the same as
Mark s, which was also written in Greek. Both Matthew and Luke used Mark as a
source. Matthew s Gospel was most likely written in either Palestine or Syria.
Matthew s Gospel was likely written for Christians of Jewish descent. The message ...

A centurion is a commander of a 100 man army and a servant is someone who
performs duties for others without choice. There is no mention of women in this
story, as they are not treated with much respect or as regular people in society
unlike males. There is nothing mentioned in this story about social groups such as
the Pharisees as it is mostly based around the Jesus, the Centurion and his servant.
Jesus reveals his surprise as he describes the Servant as a very faithful man and that
he has never seen anyone like this before. The centurion initiates action by calling
for Jewish Elders to find Jesus and tell him that his servant needs his help. Through
the story Jesus interacts with all the characters, the Centurion, the servant and the
Jewish Elders. The Servant interacts with everyone except the Elders. While the
Centurion is like Jesus, he interacts with everyone. Words that the writer uses to get
his message across are, they came to Jesus and begged him earnestly, This man really
deserves your help . This gives the view that Jesus is a very important man and is the
one people look to. The point of the text is to post a view and image of who Jesus is
and how capable he is with performing miracles on people who need it

The For A Parole Program
The use of parole has been around as early as the 1600s. Parole has grown into a
program where offenders are released into the community with resources to help the
offender reduce their chance of recidivating. Barton Bellessa and Hanser said, The
true purpose of community correction [was] to reform those offenders who showed
sufficient motivation and likelihood of being reformed (pgs. 441 and 443) . Instead,
in the past ten years, parolehas been used to reduce overcrowding in prisoninstead of
reintegrating the offender back into the community. For three decades parole has had
a dreadful reputation for releasing prisoners into the community without being
reformed. In order for a parole program to be successful, there are various elements
that need to take place; a need for careful selection of offenders that deserve at chance
at parole, communication between multiple departments need to be precise and often,
community based services need to be available and participate with the offender, and
most important, the relationship between offender and case worker needs to be
frequent and honest.
Before an individual is considered for the parole program, there needs to be an
agreement on selection of offender between, case managers, parole officers,
probation officers (if an offender is assigned one) and detention officers. The
Transition from Jail to Community (TJC) model is an exceptional reference for a
case manager to use to take a look at all of the individuals that are

Narcissistic Personality Disorder Essay
Everyone knows someone who seems to be completely wrapped up in themselves.
They seem to only care about themselves, and they seem to think that they are better
than every one. Some of these people probably have narcissistic personality
disorder. This personality disorder is defined as, ...a broad pattern of grandiosity,
need for admiration, and lack of empathy (Comer, 2010, p. 531). People with
narcissistic personality disorderare convinced of their own greatness; whether it be
their success, artistic skill, or beauty. They also require the constant attention and
admiration of the people around them. But, this is not all that is involved in this
disorder. People with narcissistic personality disorderare extremely self... Show more

This too is typical of people with narcissistic personality disorder. People with this
disorder tend to be very picky, or choosey, when it come to who their friends and
associates are. Since they consider themselves to be special, they think that only those
who are also special are deserving of their time. A narcissistic personality may also
surround themselves with dependent personalities, because those with dependent
personalities will give them the constant praise and adulation that they require. Again
we turn to Brother John for an example, He is an excellent teacher and has inspired
many students. He has always had a group of students, usually dependent
personalities... (Rosetti, 1999). These students would often be called upon to defend
Brother John when his behavior was questioned by supervisors. Brother John using
his students in this way touches upon another trait common to those with narcissistic
personality disorder. People with this disorder are often manipulative, and use other
to achieve their own ends. According to Ronald Comer, they may do this partly out
of envy (2010, p. 234). I think that it is more likely that this is just a branch of
another common character trait amongst those with narcissistic personalities, that
being a lack of empathy. People with this disorder are seldom interested in the
feelings of others, and so they probably never take those feelings into consideration
when they are manipulating

Social Satire In The Great Gatsby
The Great Gatsby is possibly F. Scott Fitzgerald s greatest work. It is a book that
provides insightful views of the American social climbers in the 1920s. The Great
Gatsby is an American classic and a wonderfully haunting work.
The novel s happenings are told with the help of the consciousness of its narrator,
Nick Carraway, a graduate from Yale. Upon relocating to New York, he rents a house
next door to the mansion of an eccentric millionaire, Jay Gatsby who throws
extravagant and lavish parties every Saturday night. Nick lives on an island across

Daisy, Gatsby and even Nick all have their own issues. The writing took me longer
to appreciate but I found myself more and more immersed in it as I went on. I think
the book is just incredibly atmospheric.
Gatsby s materialism is an attempt to class pass. His whole life is about trying to
achieve the American Dream of coming from poverty and becoming wealthy so he
can socialize with the privileged. However, the American Dream is a lie, the game
is rigged and the only way to move up in America is through illicit means. So, he
does that. But even then, the elites never see him as an equal and he s always a guy
wearing a gauche pink suit to them.
That pink suit is a sign that he has money, which Gatsby needs to get in with the
Long Island crowd. Tom Buchanan does not need such signs because he has the
name. He s old money, so he does not have to tell people he is wealthy. Gatsby s
wealth is just a component of his tragic character. He has a desire that we all have: to
fit in with a desirable

huge price to the benefits. Someone has to take care of the negative effects that
impact the environment, and unfortunately they aren t fully accredited to what they
have to do to maintain order in many people s lives and ensure the environment is
providing for their profession. When we think of environmentally dependent
professions more locally, many of the people of North Carolina depend on our
environment to sustain their livelihood, and even to make a living for themselves,
like fishermen, farmer, hunters, and all kinds of employment options. That is why
Environmental non profits in North Carolina should receive more funding annually
from the government, for all the things they do to make sure our resources aren t
degraded, people can continue to use our environment for their enjoyment and any
other needs. This paper will help to explain the many reasons why NC environmental
non profits should be funded a larger amount that would be able to be used to employ
Islmaic Achievements and Muslim Contributions and

The Muslim Empire grew to encompass a wide range of territory. Their empire
included India, Greece, and Rome in addition to many other places. The Muslims
were much more advanced than other nations because of their tolerance of other
cultures. This enabled them to adopt many of the developments and innovations of
the people whose land they conquered. They were able to attain intelligence at the
highest level of the time from a specific area they conquered whose main focus of
study was that field. The Muslim people made many exceptional achievements and
great contributions that spread to and affected the entire world, particularly Europe.
Several factors encouraged them to pursue experimentations and developments in
different fields.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Meanwhile, in European places, such as Paris and London, there were still muddy
pathways and dark alleys. This proves that the Muslim Empire was much more
advanced and intelligent in many different aspects.(Document 2) The Muslims
made much significant advancement in the medical field. The rulers of the
Muslim Empire encouraged this research in the medical field. They wanted people
who knew about diseases and medical procedures treating them were they were ill.
This made the Muslims much more advanced and knowledgeable in medicine than
other parts of the world. In fact, Muslim cities boasted some of the best hospitals in
the world. One reason they were so efficient is that doctors and pharmacists were
required to complete a specific course of study and pass a formal examination before
being able o practice medicine. However, this knowledge was not exclusive to the
Muslim Empire, but rather it was translated into Latin and was used in European
schools. The spread of this knowledge made Europe significantly more
knowledgeable regarding diseases and medical procedures than they were prior to
them receiving this information. In addition to advancements in the medical field,
other scientific advancements were made. The created the practice of the experiment
as well as a method of classification into three distinct categories: animal, vegetable,
or mineral.(Documents 1 and 3) Muslim mathematicians made amazing advances
The Heart-warming Story of Rain Man
Rain Man is a heart warming and captivating film, based in the 1980s, in America.
The plot revolves around Charlie Babbitt, who discovers after his father s death that
he has an autistic brother, Raymond. The plot revolves around Charlie spontaneously
kidnapping him from a mental hospital and taking his brother on a bizarre journey of
self discovery, culture and self awareness, with the goal of seeking his late father s
inheritance. The director, Barry Levinsonwho makes a cameo as Raymond s
psychiatrist is now less famous for writing (as well as directing) political satire and
sci fi films such as Man of the Year, starring Robin Williams and The Bay, featuring
Kether Donohue (Scott, 2012). Whilst tackling serious issues such as mental health,
and adding a little comedy as well, Rain Man has truly left a legacy for the American
and global film industry.
One of the fanatically portrayed themes in the film is disability and the way the
director uses minor characters as props to communicate how society perceived
disabled people in the 1980s. For example, a bar maid, Sally suggests that Ray is a
very clever boy . This is significant because she is the only minor character who
treats Ray with respect and sympathy, in contrast to Charlie who evidently abuses it.
In addition, the mise en scene comprised of high key lighting and a subtle wide angle
shot creates a somewhat ambient atmosphere (Cinematheque, 2010, p. 1). This
therefore suggests that this is an
The Bourne Identity Critical Analysis Essay
A sense of belonging will often emerge from the connections made with people,
places, groups, communities, and the larger world. The Bourne Identity is a novel,
written by Robert Ludlum. The main character in this novel is Jason Bourne, a
broken man, not only in the physical, but also in the emotional and psychological
sense. Throughout the entire novel we see a man who is attempting to put the
pieces of his life back together after suffering from a sudden onset of amnesia.
There are several ways that this text relates to belonging and not belonging, all of
which become increasingly obvious as the novel progresses. Through the loss of
memory every aspect of an individual s sense of belonging is completely removed,
and as Bournestruggles... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You came for me. You came back for me, and saved ... my ... life. This extreme turn
of events creates a connection between Bourne and Marie, one that time develops into
a very close and intimate relationship. She knew Jason Bourne, or the man called
Jason Bourne, and she held on to the decency she knew was there. Oh, God, how
she loved him so! . And then he would leave; she would never know when and he
could never tell her why. He owed her that; it would hurt deeply for a while, but the
ultimate pain would be far less than that caused by the stigma of Cain. Cain! Marie.
Marie! What have I done? This is an example of a narrative technique used
throughout the text. The author uses italics to show what Bourne is thinking, in
doing this a deeper connection is created between the reader and the character, by
revealing how Bourne really feels. This technique is used in other instances to show
Bourne s raw emotion and distress.
A man in the text know only as Carlos is another individual of whom Bourne has a
deep connection with. However, this connection and the sense of belonging that is
derived from it, is of a very different nature, to the one he shares with Marie. Carlos
is a central figure in Bourne s fragmented memory, however he cannot place where,
how or why he knows this man. Again the narrative technique using italics to show
Bourne s thoughts is used. Carlos. Find Carlos! God in heaven, why? Delta.
Total Institutions
Total Institutions
In the year 1961, the author, Erving Goffman, published a book consisting of text and
studies on mental patients and inmates, in what he has called total institutions . There
is a large focus on the life of mental patients, due to his year long study in an
American institution. However, the center of my reading was based on the
institutions and the lifestyles that are reached when placed in such establishments.
When describing these institutions the author referred to them as segregated
communities. This is exactly what they are. One is cut off from the outside society,
with little or no contact at all until the inmates stay is over. The character of these
institutions is one that is an intimidating ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The grouping includes, monasteries and covenants, Buddhist temples and the like.
For one to be include in such a lifestyle is to truly believe in the higher power. to turn
your life willfully over to a way of life and to separated from everything that one
has ever known, would be of great difficulty. It would be doing this that would
profess ones faith, desire, and trueness to what one is doing. Finally the institutions
that are established to protect the community against intentional dangers, such as,
jails, juvenile holdings, and penitentiaries. Again, these are a group of
establishments that have the ability to strip people of their identity for as long as
they are a member of this segregated community. All the aspects of everyday life
are conducted in one place and under one authority, usually a warden, sheriff or
other member of the staff. Ones self is stripped and one is thrown unwillingly into a
group or subculture of its own. In this new group, all activities are completed at the
same time, in the same space and together as a large faceless assembly. The activities
that are participated in are those that are strictly scheduled throughout the day and roll
from one into the other.
These rigorous schedules are all imposed by the officials that run the institution. The
goals of the institution are fulfilled by these schedules and the tasks that are
completed by the
History And Development Of The Law Of Criminal
Evidence Essay
Question #1:Read Chapter 1 History and Development of the Law of Criminal
Evidence
a)The Rules of Evidence are set parameters that were adopted from British Courts
through the English Common Law and are an important part in safeguarding the
rights of the accused persons in a fair trial and also to ensure that the criminal justice
system is functioning the way it should be. Now of course at the time, the death
penalty ruled and was used more in the colonies. Since evidence was not much more
than word of mouth and one person saying that someone committed the crime, and a
few artifacts that helped in the crime. This lack of physical evidence led to many
people being convicted of crimes they did not commit. Some of the falsely accused
would then eventually be hung for a crime they simply could not prove they had
nothing to do with. Then came investigative roles in policing. These specialized
authorities were able to find clues and evidence that could prove some ones
innocence or guilt. Investigators were able to show there evidence in court to
prevent the wrong people from going to prison, or sending the right criminals were
they belong. Lastly, a major innovation in evidence was DNA. Authorities could
find a hair or any piece of material with DNA on it and compare that DNA with a
suspect s DNA. The result of being able to prove that without a doubt a suspect
committed a crime through a hair was astounding. Another side to DNA testing was
being able to prove innocence.

Tivo Case Analysis
TiVo and Consumers
TiVo is a brand of digital video recorder that offers numerous functions far advanced
than the regular VCR or DVD player. The TiVo recorder has the ability to pause and
replay live TV as well as an array of flexible recording services that is personalized
for the consumers.
The adoption of TiVowhen it was first released was facilitated by the belief that
consumers who owned a TiVo black box and subscribed to the TiVo service can
take control of what programs to watch and when to watch them. The device
attracted consumers who were tired of missing their favorite shows because they
were too busy to watch them. TiVo also enabled people to fast forward over
irreverent advertising. TV watchers can pause a live show to ... Show more content on

This information will make it easier for advertisers to create more personal,
attention grabbing commercials. TV network stations also faced changes thanks
to TiVo s innovative technology. The normal rules of placing shows on specific
days at a certain time no longer applied since people could now record and watch
any show at any time. On the other hand, this also led to networks being able to
track how well a new show is doing before it even airs by looking at how many
people were recording it. In the fall of 2000, Microsoft introduced UltimateTV.
Similar to TiVo, Microsoft s UltimateTV was a DVR add on to its WebTV service
which already offered email and web browsing, things which TiVo did not.
UltimateTV also had other features such as recording two shows at once and 30
second skip. Microsoft s UltimateTV did have some weaknesses, however. This
included a lack of time in the DVR market and a relatively small group of current
subscribers to their WebTV service. Thus, Microsoft needs to convince consumers not
only that UltimateTV is superior to TiVo but that WebTV is a useful tool.
Marketing Plan
TiVo s marketing plan was greatly influenced by disappointing Christmas sales in
1999. They brought the price way down from nearly $1,000 to less than $500. Early
adopters were not willing to consider the technology at $1,000.
This ties in closely to the problems they had with the product section of the marketing
mix. TiVo was

My Writing Process Essay. The writing process examples. Editing Writing Process w/ Examples ...

  • 1. My Writing Process Essay Crafting an essay on the topic "My Writing Process" can prove to be quite challenging, primarily because it requires a deep level of introspection and self-awareness. Describing one's personal approach to writing demands a thorough examination of one's habits, strategies, strengths, and weaknesses in the realm of composition. This task becomes even more intricate when considering the need for clarity and coherence in conveying these insights to the reader. Moreover, articulating the intricacies of one's writing process necessitates a balance between providing specific examples and general principles. Striking this balance requires careful consideration to ensure that the essay remains engaging and informative without delving into unnecessary detail or becoming overly abstract. Additionally, the inherent subjectivity of the writing process adds another layer of complexity. What works for one individual may not necessarily apply to another, making it challenging to offer universally applicable advice or insights. Furthermore, the act of self-reflection involved in writing about one's writing process can be daunting. It requires confronting personal habits, preferences, and areas for improvement, which can be a daunting task for some writers. Despite these challenges, composing an essay on "My Writing Process" offers a valuable opportunity for self-discovery and growth as a writer. By examining and articulating the strategies and techniques employed in the writing process, individuals can gain a deeper understanding of their craft and potentially identify areas for refinement. In conclusion, while writing an essay on "My Writing Process" presents several challenges due to its introspective nature and subjective elements, it also offers a rewarding opportunity for self- reflection and improvement as a writer. • 2. Bacterial Meningitis Essay There are three different types of meningitis; viral, fungal, and bacterial meningitis. Although not as common as viral meningitis, bacterial meningitis is more likely to leave individuals with permanent disabilities. In children, disabilities can range from deafness, hearing loss, and cerebral palsy? the most common after effects. And in adults, septic shock, brain swelling, and hydrocephalus are most likely to occur if the disease advances without treatment within a sufficient time period. The three main bacteria responsible for bacterial meningitisare streptococcus pneumoniae, haemophilus influenza type B (Hib), and neisseria meningitidis. Hib meningitis is an infection caused by a bacteria called, Haemophilus influenza serotype ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the 1930s, infant mortality because of bacterial meningitis caused by Haemophilus influenza type B was almost at one hundred percent. But with the onset of antibiotics in the 1960s, the mortality rate was reduced to a mere range of five to ten percent. Thirty percent of survivors were often left with defects such as deafness, blindness, seizures, and mental retardation(Mark A. Herbert, ed. Derek W. Hood, ed. E. Richard Moxon, ed. Haemophilus influenza Protocols , 29?30). Anyone can carry the bacterium. The bacteria are found dormant in the back of their nose and throat. Though they are dormant in the carrier, the carrier can still pass them on to another person through ways such as: kissing, coughing, sneezing, sharing a cup, utensil, lip gloss, or cigarette. In other words, through the exchange of respiratory and throat secretions. Some of these ways of transmission are the core reasons as to why this disease is more prevalent in children under five years of age (Common Bacterial Hib). Streptococcus pneumoniae is a gram positive bacterium that is a normal inhabitant of the human respiratory tract. This bacterium is present in the nasopharyngeal region of five to ten percent of healthy adults and twenty to forty percent of healthy children and causes no harm to the individuals whatsoever. But it can attack the body by escaping the host?s defenses and phagocytic mechanisms through choroid plexus seeding from bacterium or through direct extension
  • 3. Wealth and Happiness Wealth and happiness The human kind has always strived towards power, and wealth is one of the necessities for those who want this power. However, nowadays many seek wealth, because they want the freedom that money can grant, and thus become happier. Some people tend overrate how much happier they will get by becoming rich. That leads to the question: Can you buy happiness? 1. In the first text, David Brooks tries to explain the correlation between wealth and happiness. With Sandra Bullock s experience as an example, he tries to prove his point that getting richer only will make you a little bit happier, as in the USA, where the country has gotten a lot richer during the last 50 years, but not happier than before. However, he does ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another thing he does is giving his personal opinion: Nonetheless, if you had to take more than three seconds to think about this question you are absolutely crazy . This will either make us agree or disagree. No matter what it makes us think, maybe even after we have read the article, and thus he has engaged us in the problem and the text. 3. Whether spending money brings happiness or not, depends on the individual. Many believe that getting rich will automatically make you happier. According to Peter Singer, and his data from Science there is practically no correlation between money and happiness. Moreover, he claims that rich people are spending more time on activities, which are associated with negative feelings. This is probably because of their job that might be more stressful and have more work hours, than those who do not earn quite as much have. Although this might be a bad deal in the short run, exchanging happiness for money. In the long run it can result in a greater feeling of joy, than it would ever have been possible, by giving up on the well paying, but stressful job, to live a more poor, but happier life. The Warren Buffet incident is a perfect example. Not only thinking about the happiness he got for himself, but also the millions of persons whose lives was improved or even saved by Buffet. In addition, when people have acquired a large amount of money, the way they spend it can have an impact on how much happier they will become.
  • 4. South Carolina Dbq The Secession of South Carolina was on December 20th, 1860. This was when the state of South Carolina drafted the Declaration of the Immediate Causes Which Induce and Justify the Secession of South Carolina from the Federal Union this meant that South Carolina was repealing its ratification of the U.S. Constitution. South Carolinadid this because they felt that the federal government of the Union was not obeying the Constitution and going against it. They believed that the states had equal and separate control of its own state and government itself, and they could also claim slaves as their property and the constitution says that they have the right to do whatever they want with their property. One of them was that they were the first to fall in a line of dominoes in which more and more states of the south will open their eyes and secede from the Union. As said by WIECEK, WILLIAM M In it, the Carolinian accused the free states of violation or half hearted enforcement of the Fugitive Slave Acts, tolerating abolitionists agitation, and electing a presidential candidate pledged to eventual abolition of slavery therefore South Carolina declared itself an Independent State, with full power to levy war, conclude peace, contract alliances, establish commerce, and to do all other acts and things which the independent states may right do (South Carolina Ordinance of Secession (1860) 1). This quote explains to us that South Carolina seceded and left the union, for these reasons. Now, in that time more states will see and realize that South Carolina was right and that they shouldn t be the only ones that should leave the union but every slave state should leave the union to create the confederate states of america. This was the beginning of the war and all there was left to do was
  • 5. Themes in Shakespeare s Othello Essay Othello was written by Jacobean playwright William Shakespeare in 1603. It proved a huge success when first performed in 1604, in front of a huge audience. The story is one of Shakespeare s great tragedy themed plays. Othello is the black protagonist and highly esteemed Venetian general. Iago is the ambitious but scheming villain of the play. When Othellopromotes a man called Michael Cassio over Iago, he is furious and launches a malicious campaign against Othello. Meanwhile, Othello has married a white woman, Desdemona, without her father knowing. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He will take advantage of Othello and is using him for his own means. Shakespeare wrote this to foreshadow the future, creating tension, because the audience know there is dishonesty and deception to follow. This is supported by the quote: in following him, I follow but myself I am not who I am . It y shows you that Iago does not wear his heart on his sleeve. The word master sounds mocking, as if Iago is going to betray Othello so this creates tension. So the themes of hate and appearance vs. reality are introduced through Iago s dialogue. Iago expresses his hate for Othello He says: ...I do hate him as I do hell pains . The simile hate explains how much Iago loathes Othello. He compared hatred to hell. The modern audience aren t as affected by the reference to hell, but the Jacobean audience would feel the true extent of Iago s hatred. The setting of act one also contributes to the hatred felt in the play. It is dark and there is a sense of mystery, creates a tense and dramatic atmosphere. Words such as: despise devil and hell support this. The references to hell would have made the Jacobean audience weary. Iago s evil soliloquy is full of hatred and revenge: Hell and night must bring this monstrous birth to the worlds light . The dark, evil images create a strong reaction in both audiences. ...to the worlds light indicates scheming will start, doubt will surface. ...monstrous indicates the idea in Iago s head is like a

When Slim agrees with them, saying that death would be a welcome release to the miserable animal, Candy gives in. One of the ranchers swears that it will be done painlessly. Slim goes to the barn to tend to the horses, and Curley, who is frenziedly searching for his wife, heads to the barn to waylay Slim. Candy overhears George and Lennie talking about their plans to purchase land, and offers his life s savings if they will let him come with them. The three make a agreement to let no one else know of their plan. Slim arrives back at the bunkhouse, scolding Curley for his suspicions. Curley, looking for an easy conduit for his anger, finds Lennie and decides to fight him. Lennie crushes Curley s hand in the brawl. Slim cautions Curley that if he tries to get George and Lennie fired, he will be the butt of all the jokes on the farm. The next night, most of the men go to the nearby brothel. Lennie is left with Crooks, the lonesome, black stable hand, and Candy. Curley s wife flirts with them, deciding not to leave until the others get back. Harrison Bergeron was indeed the greatest character never known in his society. 2081 and Harrison Bergeron tell of the futuristic society who citizens that excel in normal activities are handicapped to meet the normal population standards. In Harrison Bergeron and the short film 2081, the author and director use similar and different plot structures and characteristics. Each similarity and difference show that limiting variation in a society is dangerous. Harrison Bergeron and the short film 2081 have many similar elements in plot structure and characteristics. For example, The year was 2081, and everybody was finally equal. They weren t only equal before the law. They were equal in every which way (Vonnegut 38). 2081 choose to incorporate the same beginning narration in the short story. This element sets up the viewer s expectations for the plot and contributes to the idea of what Vonnegut portrays as the conflict of interest in the story. Harrison does not want society to be equal and tries to overthrow the government to change that because he sees the problems with total equality in society. In addition, both the film and short story show how handicaps negatively affect society through Harrison father, George. In 2081, George is shown with a handicap that plays sharp sounds such as a pin hitting a milk bottle to impair his thought process. This detail shows how the

  • 9. Stewardship In Ancient Egypt Stewardship is the term used to describe the activity of a steward. A steward was one who controlled the possessions of his master. His role was a very responsible one, and it was vital that he be a person of honest character. The possibilities for theft or misuse of his master s possessions were great. As we look at the principles concerning the steward we will see that true stewardship involves how we deal with the resources God has entrusted to us. This includes our money, time, possessions, bodies, families and ministry. From the beginning we see that God had provided for mankind, and has the desire to see man responsibly disperse his provision. He lived in Potiphar s house and directed both Potiphar s household and his fields. But the story of his temptation by Potiphar s wife clearly shows that Joseph never forgot that all these things belonged to his master and that there were limits to what he could do. He could enjoy the fruits of his labor as long as his master was pleased with his stewardship, and as long as he did not sin against Potiphar. Later, Joseph again was made a steward, first of the jailer and then of Pharaoh himself. As steward of Pharaoh, he was the wealthiest man in Egypt after Pharaoh. However his position depended on his faithfulness to administrate the affairs of Pharaoh in a manner that pleased Pharaoh. The Apostle Paul also clearly taught that we are stewards of Christ. Church leaders are especially responsible to minister the mysteries of God (1Co 4:1 2; Eph 3:2; Tit 1:7). He also taught that our mMaster is coming back suddenly, at a time when we do not expect hHim (1Th 5:2). Each of these passages is specifically addressed to Christians. The fact that Jesus will judge believers is even more clear in 1Corinthians 3:10 15. In that text, Paul describes how fire will test our works, and we will
  • 10. The Light Of Catholic Social Teaching Essay The Catholic Church believes that human life and human dignity go hand in hand. A threat to one is an equal threat to the other. The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches that, The equality of men rests essentially on their dignity as persons and the rights that flow from it (1935). The Second Vatican Council in Gaudium et Spes recognized that, ...any kind of social or cultural discrimination in basic personal rights on the grounds of sex, race, color, social conditions, language or religion, must be curbed and eradicated as incompatible with God s design (29). In other words, humans were created in God s image and from that we acquire our dignity and rights because of that holy and sacred origin. The plan was meant for all to enjoy a basic equality and yet due to sin, the evil of racismhas been allowed to permeate humanity, thus helping to deny humandignity and human rights. In the light of Catholic social teaching (CST), one asks the questions, in what ways does racism help to deny mankind its rights and dignity, and what are we as the Church doing to help combat this scourge on our communities and on society? Whether one calls it racism, xenophobia, or prejudice, all humans have an innate tendency to pre judge others based external characteristics. This becomes a problem when we allow these observations to become stereotypes where all of one particular community or group are broadly painted by these subjective observations, normally negative. • 11. Julius Caesar Rhetorical Analysis Essay Murder can be defined as the unlawful premeditated killing of one human being by another. In Shakespeare s Julius Caesar, Brutus and his conspirators murder Caesar and convince the people of Rome that it was a justified act. Mark Antony, a friend of Caesar, seeks justice for his dear friend. In his funeral speech Antony uses rhetorical strategies to persuade the Romans that Caesar s death was unjustified. Through persuasion, Antony uses the strategies: rhetorical questions, verbal irony and the appeal of pathos to sway the Romans to believe that Caesar s murder was unjust. Furthermore, Antony s use of rhetorical questions has an effect on the opinions of the citizens of Rome. Antony effectively uses rhetorical questions to get the Romans to agree that Caesar s murder was unjustified. In this passage Antony focuses the crowd s attention on Caesar s body and tells them how his murder was a product of treason. In telling the romans that Caesar was killed by his friends, whom he trusted, Antony appeals to the emotions of the crowd. The citizens of Rome are clearly affected by Antony s use of pathos when they respond with O piteous spectacle (III.ii.192), O Woeful day (III.ii.193) and We will be revenged (III.ii.195). The citizens realize it is a sad day and feel pity for Caesar indicating an effective appeal of pathos. Beowulf and Thor might seem like they are very similar heroes, but they have a large amount of differences too. Thor is a god that has help from cosmic and mystical powers, while Beowulfis a human with some superhuman abilities. Throughout a 10 year span, Tubman made more than 20 trips down to the South and lead over 300 slaves from bondage to freedom. Perhaps the most shocking fact about Tubman s journeys back and forth from the South was that she never lost a single passenger. Harriet Tubman was born into slavery in Maryland around 1820. By the time Tubman had reached the age of 5 or 6, she started working as a servant in her master s household. In 1849, Tubman ran away in fear that she, along with many other slaves on the plantation were going to be sold off. Harriet Tubman left on foot. Luckily, Tubman was given some assistance from a white woman, and was able to set off on her journey to freedom. Tubman used the North Star in order to find her direction during the night, slowly inching her way to Pennsylvania. Once Tubman had reached Pennsylvania, she found a job and began to save her money. The following year after arriving to Philadelphia, Tubman returned to Maryland and to lead her family to freedom. Among the people she took was her sister and her sister s two children. Tubman was able to make the same dangerous trips months later back to the South to rescue her brother and two other men that her brother knew. On Tubman s third return to the South to rescue her husband, she found that he had found another wife. Undeterred by her husband s actions, she rescued other slaves wanting freedom and lead them Northward. Harriet Tubman repeated this journey between the North and South over and over again. Tubman came up with several of her own techniques which helped make the journey safer and more successful. One such technique included using the master s own horse and carriage for the first part of

The French finally decided to try and build a canal between the two oceans after over 300 years of different surveys being down around the area. The French chose to build the canal through Panama. These students would often be called upon to defend Brother John when his behavior was questioned by supervisors. Brother John using his students in this way touches upon another trait common to those with narcissistic personality disorder. People with this disorder are often manipulative, and use other to achieve their own ends. According to Ronald Comer, they may do this partly out of envy (2010, p. 234). I think that it is more likely that this is just a branch of another common character trait amongst those with narcissistic personalities, that being a lack of empathy. People with this disorder are seldom interested in the feelings of others, and so they probably never take those feelings into consideration when they are manipulating

  • 35. Social Satire In The Great Gatsby The Great Gatsby is possibly F. Scott Fitzgerald s greatest work. It is a book that provides insightful views of the American social climbers in the 1920s. The Great Gatsby is an American classic and a wonderfully haunting work. The novel s happenings are told with the help of the consciousness of its narrator, Nick Carraway, a graduate from Yale. Upon relocating to New York, he rents a house next door to the mansion of an eccentric millionaire, Jay Gatsby who throws extravagant and lavish parties every Saturday night. Nick lives on an island across from where his rich friend Tom and cousin Daisy live. Tom is having an affair with a middle class woman named Myrtle Wilson. Unfortunately everyone knows about Tom and Myrtle s affair except for... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Daisy, Gatsby and even Nick all have their own issues. The writing took me longer to appreciate but I found myself more and more immersed in it as I went on. I think the book is just incredibly atmospheric. Gatsby s materialism is an attempt to class pass. His whole life is about trying to achieve the American Dream of coming from poverty and becoming wealthy so he can socialize with the privileged. However, the American Dream is a lie, the game is rigged and the only way to move up in America is through illicit means. So, he does that. But even then, the elites never see him as an equal and he s always a guy wearing a gauche pink suit to them. That pink suit is a sign that he has money, which Gatsby needs to get in with the Long Island crowd. Tom Buchanan does not need such signs because he has the name. He s old money, so he does not have to tell people he is wealthy. Gatsby s wealth is just a component of his tragic character. He has a desire that we all have: to fit in with a desirable

The rulers of the Muslim Empire encouraged this research in the medical field. They wanted people who knew about diseases and medical procedures treating them were they were ill. This made the Muslims much more advanced and knowledgeable in medicine than other parts of the world. In fact, Muslim cities boasted some of the best hospitals in the world. One reason they were so efficient is that doctors and pharmacists were required to complete a specific course of study and pass a formal examination before being able o practice medicine. However, this knowledge was not exclusive to the Muslim Empire, but rather it was translated into Latin and was used in European schools. The spread of this knowledge made Europe significantly more knowledgeable regarding diseases and medical procedures than they were prior to them receiving this information. In addition to advancements in the medical field, other scientific advancements were made. • 39. The Heart-warming Story of Rain Man Rain Man is a heart warming and captivating film, based in the 1980s, in America. The plot revolves around Charlie Babbitt, who discovers after his father s death that he has an autistic brother, Raymond. The plot revolves around Charlie spontaneously kidnapping him from a mental hospital and taking his brother on a bizarre journey of self discovery, culture and self awareness, with the goal of seeking his late father s inheritance. The director, Barry Levinsonwho makes a cameo as Raymond s psychiatrist is now less famous for writing (as well as directing) political satire and sci fi films such as Man of the Year, starring Robin Williams and The Bay, featuring Kether Donohue (Scott, 2012). Whilst tackling serious issues such as mental health, and adding a little comedy as well, Rain Man has truly left a legacy for the American and global film industry. One of the fanatically portrayed themes in the film is disability and the way the director uses minor characters as props to communicate how society perceived disabled people in the 1980s. For example, a bar maid, Sally suggests that Ray is a very clever boy . This is significant because she is the only minor character who treats Ray with respect and sympathy, in contrast to Charlie who evidently abuses it. In addition, the mise en scene comprised of high key lighting and a subtle wide angle shot creates a somewhat ambient atmosphere (Cinematheque, 2010, p. 1). This therefore suggests that this is an

The Bourne Identity is a novel, written by Robert Ludlum. The main character in this novel is Jason Bourne, a broken man, not only in the physical, but also in the emotional and psychological sense. Throughout the entire novel we see a man who is attempting to put the pieces of his life back together after suffering from a sudden onset of amnesia. There are several ways that this text relates to belonging and not belonging, all of which become increasingly obvious as the novel progresses. Through the loss of memory every aspect of an individual s sense of belonging is completely removed, and as Bournestruggles... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... You came for me. You came back for me, and saved ... my ... life. This extreme turn of events creates a connection between Bourne and Marie, one that time develops into a very close and intimate relationship. She knew Jason Bourne, or the man called Jason Bourne, and she held on to the decency she knew was there. Oh, God, how she loved him so! . And then he would leave; she would never know when and he could never tell her why. He owed her that; it would hurt deeply for a while, but the ultimate pain would be far less than that caused by the stigma of Cain. Cain! Marie. Marie! What have I done? This is an example of a narrative technique used throughout the text. The author uses italics to show what Bourne is thinking, in doing this a deeper connection is created between the reader and the character, by revealing how Bourne really feels. This technique is used in other instances to show Bourne s raw emotion and distress. A man in the text know only as Carlos is another individual of whom Bourne has a deep connection with. However, this connection and the sense of belonging that is derived from it, is of a very different nature, to the one he shares with Marie. Carlos is a central figure in Bourne s fragmented memory, however he cannot place where, how or why he knows this man. Again the narrative technique using italics to show Bourne s thoughts is used. Carlos. Find Carlos! God in heaven, why? Delta.

Total Institutions Total Institutions In the year 1961, the author, Erving Goffman, published a book consisting of text and studies on mental patients and inmates, in what he has called total institutions . There is a large focus on the life of mental patients, due to his year long study in an American institution. However, the center of my reading was based on the institutions and the lifestyles that are reached when placed in such establishments. When describing these institutions the author referred to them as segregated communities. This is exactly what they are. • 42. History And Development Of The Law Of Criminal Evidence Essay Question #1:Read Chapter 1 History and Development of the Law of Criminal Evidence a)The Rules of Evidence are set parameters that were adopted from British Courts through the English Common Law and are an important part in safeguarding the rights of the accused persons in a fair trial and also to ensure that the criminal justice system is functioning the way it should be. Now of course at the time, the death penalty ruled and was used more in the colonies. Since evidence was not much more than word of mouth and one person saying that someone committed the crime, and a few artifacts that helped in the crime. This lack of physical evidence led to many people being convicted of crimes they did not commit. Some of the falsely accused would then eventually be hung for a crime they simply could not prove they had nothing to do with. Then came investigative roles in policing. These specialized authorities were able to find clues and evidence that could prove some ones innocence or guilt. Investigators were able to show there evidence in court to prevent the wrong people from going to prison, or sending the right criminals were they belong. Lastly, a major innovation in evidence was DNA. Authorities could find a hair or any piece of material with DNA on it and compare that DNA with a suspect s DNA. The result of being able to prove that without a doubt a suspect committed a crime through a hair was astounding. Another side to DNA testing was being able to prove innocence.

The TiVo recorder has the ability to pause and replay live TV as well as an array of flexible recording services that is personalized for the consumers. The adoption of TiVowhen it was first released was facilitated by the belief that consumers who owned a TiVo black box and subscribed to the TiVo service can take control of what programs to watch and when to watch them. TV network stations also faced changes thanks to TiVo s innovative technology. The normal rules of placing shows on specific days at a certain time no longer applied since people could now record and watch any show at any time. On the other hand, this also led to networks being able to track how well a new show is doing before it even airs by looking at how many people were recording it. In the fall of 2000, Microsoft introduced UltimateTV. Similar to TiVo, Microsoft s UltimateTV was a DVR add on to its WebTV service which already offered email and web browsing, things which TiVo did not. UltimateTV also had other features such as recording two shows at once and 30 second skip. Microsoft s UltimateTV did have some weaknesses, however. This included a lack of time in the DVR market and a relatively small group of current subscribers to their WebTV service. Thus, Microsoft needs to convince consumers not only that UltimateTV is superior to TiVo but that WebTV is a useful tool. Marketing Plan TiVo s marketing plan was greatly influenced by disappointing Christmas sales in 1999. They brought the price way down from nearly $1,000 to less than $500. Early adopters were not willing to consider the technology at $1,000. This ties in closely to the problems they had with the product section of the marketing mix. TiVo was
