Men and women have different practices and motivations for the way you grant. A
couple sorts of men s lead: are being the antagonistic outsider and the motivations for
this direct are a longing to gather more information or amplify their appreciation of
the issue. Uses prompt, brief and summoning vernacular to give decisions, this begins
from the longing to pass on capably, reinforce down to earth chain of significance,
and show obligation through convincingness. Sitting on an edge and keeping up a
key separation from eye contact, begins from doing whatever it takes not to look
powerful or testing as opposed to being unengaged. Moving into another s space,
talking progressively and with power, meddling with, using psyche to summon a

Analysis Of The Poem The Sea
The Ocean
Come in Ally, Kevin says. I shake my head without a moment s hesitation. I do not
want to go in the ocean. My mind is racing through all of the different animals that
are in that ocean, just waiting for me. What if I get stung? What if a crab pinches
me? What if I get eaten? There are so many really big animals in there that could
swallow me in one bite! Then I close my eyes and focus on my breathing. Take a deep
breath in and let it out. Smell the roses and blow out the candles. I breath in the crisp
summer air and decide I am ready to open my eyes again. When I do, I become
aware of every wave, ripple, and sparkle reflecting off the water.

I can t go in the water. I can t. My breathing is so fast that I fear I might pass out.
It feels like an eternity, but it has only been a few seconds. We get so far out that
the water is up to Kevin s waist and my feet start to touch the water. Kevin tries to
let me go, but I will not let go. I can t. Unexpectedly he goes underwater with him
still carrying me. The shock of the water takes me by surprise and I let go. My feet
hit the sand and I let out a gasp. Even though the sand is warm and soft I do not want
to be touching it.
I push myself up out of the water and as soon as I get up, a huge wave pushes my
back underwater and I am thrown into the sand. It is soft, yet it still hurt. I push
myself to stay in. This isn t so bad. Another wave comes and it pulls me under again
and a rock is being pushed into my knee. The rock drags across my leg drawing
blood. I get out of the ocean and look at my leg. It doesn t look too bad but it
definitely left a mark. My breathing slows down as I close my eyes.
When I calm down I realize that my mouth is turned upwards at the corners. Am I
smiling? Then I realize that was the most fun I have had in awhile. Sure I got hurt a
little, but I am not eaten, stung, or pinched. I thought that my thoughts would never
change. Until now.
This time when Kevin calls me I go in without a moment s hesitation. I can do
Dynamic News Classification Using Machine Learning
Dynamic News Classification using Machine Learning Introduction Why this
classification is needed ? (Ashutosh) The exponential growth of the data may lead
us to a time in future where huge amount of data would not be able to be managed
easily. Text Classification is done through Text Mining study which would help
sorting the important texts from the content or a document to manage the data or
information easily. //Give a scenario, where classification would be mandatory.
Advantages of classification of news articles (Ayush) Data classification is all
about tagging the data so that it can be found quickly and efficiently. The amount
of disorder data is increasing at an exponential rate, so if we can build a machine
model which can automatically classify data then we can save time and huge
amount of human resources. What you have done in this paper (all) Related work

The Characteristics Of Baroque Music
At first glance, a number of pieces of baroque music can seem pretty straightforward
and simplistic. When performed exactly as it is written, usually by amateurs, the
music may not be able to grab the listener s attention and it is easy to assume that
listeners back then had different musical ears that modern listeners do that gave them
the ability to tolerate such simplistic pieces. Could this really be the musicthat some
records have shown to drive people of the Baroqueera to tears and even the urge to
faint? It is when a vocalist begins to embellish and ornament the various notes and
give their own improvisational touches to the piece that it truly begins to have
character and grips the listener with it s pulchritudinous composition, such as is with
works such as Monteverdi s famous Ariadne s Lament, a gorgeous work capable of
moving most to tears; this is the importance of ornamentation when it comes to
musicians performing Baroque era music.
Unfortunately, there has been little research and discussion on what vocal
characteristics are suitable for the most authentic Baroque performance. A very
common misunderstanding is that Baroque music is innately limited, simple, or
uninspired; however, the truth of it is that the music of the Baroque gives the
performer the freedom personal expression and individualized that is unrivaled by
most other periods of music history. To further illustrate, the Baroque era is like the

An Globalized World Burden Of Private Investment Is...
Abstract: There is growing consensus among researchers and academicians that in
this globalized world the burden of private investment is increasing over Foreign
Direct Investment (FDI). Because of a declining trend in public investment the task
of capital formation rests over the shoulder of private investment and thus FDI
playing a leading role in determining the fate of the economy. The economies
receiving more inflow of FDI, are realizing a comparatively high growth and vice
versa. This is also expected to be happen in India. The present paper discusses the
relationship between the inflow of FDI and GDP. It has been found that FDI has a
positive correlation with GDP. the regression analysis between GDP and FDI of
different sectors also supported the same result which shows that FDI inflow in India
is playing very important role in determining the size of GDP.
Key Word: Foreign Direct Investment, Sustainable Growth, GDP, Farm Production
Introduction:
The process of planning in India has always been sensitive to the needs of the poor
and the plight of excluded from its early days. Government of India sought to solve
all the socio economic problems with the help of rapid and sustained economic
growth, because our planners were working with the view that as the size of
national income will be high individuals can share more and vice versa (Hashim,
S.R., 2007). Mainly because of this reason economic growth has always been the

Essay about The Effect of Highspeed Trains on Society
The Effect of Highspeed Trains on Society A major reason in favor of the
construction of high speed trains in America is to relieve airways and traffic
congestion. First, delays at airports are costly. Larry Johnson, director of the Center
for transportation Research at Argonne National Laboratory near Chicago,
calculates that passengers lose more that twelve million hours each year in delays at
O Hare airport alone. In 1986, according to the Federal Aviation Administration
(FAA) airlines, delays cost five billion dollars, including two billion in extra fuel and
labor cost, for the ailing airline industry. According to the FAA, relieving airport
congestion will cost one hundred and seventeen billion over the next decade (Mobey

In the next twenty years, this insidious tax is projected to nearly double
(Mallinckarodt p1). Bill Fay said, Cars stuck in traffic waste more fuel and emit
more pollutants than cars that are moving (Dahl 4). High occupancy vehicle
(HOV) lanes are one of the primary tools used to reduce traffic congestion on the
state highway system and improve air quality ( HOV Lanes in California #8230;
p1). The usual goal of HOV lane restrictions is to provide overall congestion, and
emissions reduction (Mallinckdet. p 1). However, in recent years, HOV lanes
effectiveness in achieving these goals has come in to question ( HOV Lanes in
California #8230; p1). When drivers use a highway, they do not pay the cost that
they may be imposing on other drivers. Ideally, traffic should flow smoothly at the
speed limit. However, as traffic increases, eventually the addition of one more vehicle
will slow the flow and increase the travel time of other vehicles. At this point
congestion (the negative externality) begins (Dahl p4). Sen Daniel Patrick Moynihan
said, The train technology, offers great opportunities to reduce congestion in our
surface and air transportation system (Clough 9). Thus building high speed trains
would aid the problem of increasing congestion at America s airports and on the
highways. Those who argue against high speed trains cite their

Life Worth In Hamlet
What is your life worth to you? How do you assess value in your life? These might
be questions you ve thought about before, or they may not be. Do you view your
worth as a dollar estimate or do you look at your value on emotional terms? In
Shakespeare s Hamlet, we see a very contemptuous outlook on life, from an emotional
standpoint. Rather than overcoming his troubles, he wallows in his own heartache.
Compared to the actions of Roger Ebertand Steve Jobs, Hamlet is a foil. In times of
tragedy it is important to realize what truly matters to you, and not what seems to be
important for the moment. We come to understand this critical concept through Ebert
and Jobs. Not only that, but we also come to realize the idea of assigning value to
someone s life from a financial standpoint is unjust, because our true value lies within
the relationships we develop and the legacy we leave behind.
In our first reading, we can conclude that Hamlet s perspective on life s worth is
dismissive; he in fact despises his life so much, he wishes he could end it. Hamlet,
the main character of Shakespeare s play titled Hamlet, declares that life is nothing
more than a sea of troubles (Ln. 4) Although I admire William Shakespeares timeless
work, I think his central claim, to be or not to be (Ln.1) is pessimistic and cowardly.
I personally disagree with Hamlet even though his outlook on life is evaluated on an
emotional level rather than financial. But how can anyone be happy when their

The Theology Of The United Methodist Church
When I was 10 years old Rev. Holland Vaughn looked into my eyes and said,
Michael, you are going to be a pastor one day. I found his prophetic pronouncement
humorous. One, because I had no intention of ever becoming a pastor, and two
because even at that age I was already running with neighborhood gangs and
engaged in very unchristian activities. As the acolyte, week after week I carried my
candle lighter and sat beside him on the altar. I watched the people laugh, cry, fall
asleep, and occasionally shout an enthusiastic amen! From the preacher s bench
behind the pulpit. I observed this master plie his trade, using tradition, experience,
and reason, to bring the Bibleto life. Subconsciously I was reasoning through my own

We draw from that depth of tradition reaching back to the church of Pentecost,
including early creeds (e.g., Apostles and Nicene Constantinopolitan), various
church councils, journeys of Christian pilgrims, and writings of Christian thinkers
(Heb 12:1 2). This diverse witness has been shaped and preserved over the
centuries of Christian teaching and reflection on the Gospel. It contains the great
triumphs and epic failures of our tradition, both of which we can learn from. Next,
our Christian experience serves as a resource. The Book of Discipline defines
Christian experience as the personal appropriation of God s forgiving and
empowering grace yet also highlights the necessary intersection of the Bible and our
experience, Our experience interacts with Scripture. We read Scripture in light of the
conditions and events that help shape who we are, and we interpret our experience in
terms of Scripture. Thus, while I read Scripture through the lens of my own
formation, the Bible interprets my

to using inorganic compounds, such as salts, they contain a complex ion. A complex
ion has a central metal ion, to which is then bonded with a neutral molecule that
forms ligands. In this experiment, potassium trisoxalatoferrate(III) and potassium
ferrioxalate will take part in purifying the product using recrystallization. A pH
titration will be used to analyze the mass percent of potassium and iron, meanwhile,

Product was rinsed/washed with separate 5 mL portions of ice cold ethanol.
Appearance was recorded of the solid and filtrate before liquid was discarded.
Product was dried for 24 hours by being placed in the dark. The mass of the dried
product was determined and percent yield was calculated. Part II: Characterization
of the Green Salt Observing Photoactivity of the Dissolved Complex Ion
Approximately 0.2 g of green salt was transferred in a beaker and dissolved in 50
mL of 1 M H2SO4. One half of the solution was poured in another beaker and
placed in the sunlight, meanwhile, the other half was placed in a cabinet with
complete darkness and isolation. Color of both solutions were obtained after 0, 5,
15, and 30 minutes. Each solution was tested for presence of Fe3+ with adding 2
drops of SCN solution. B. Experimentally Determining Mass% Water Two hot and
dry vials were brought to room temperature. Each vial was weighed on a balance to

Internal And External Environment Analysis Essay
When developing effective business strategies, organizations must thoroughly
analyze both the internal and external environments in which they operate (Hill,
Jones, Schilling, 2014, p. 11). This analysis will enable them to pinpoint those
elements that threaten their current and future profitability as well as those elements
that offer the potential to increase current and future profitability (Hill, et al., 2014,
pp. 44 45). The external environment analysis specifically looks at the industry
within which a business functions as well as the competitive forces that affect and
influence the nature of that industry. One way in which to examine these forces is
by utilizing Michael E. Porter s Five Forces model, which looks at the affect of
competitors (both emerging and current), the bargaining power of suppliers and
buyers, in addition to the threat of substitutes (Hill, et al., 2014, p. 48) on a specific
business. This paper sets out to investigate the external environment of eBay, using
Porter s model, to determine how these competitive pressures could potentially affect
the online auctionsite/retailer s future success.
What does your five forces analysis reveal about the nature and strength of the
various competitive pressures eBay faces? Are the competitive pressures facing eBay
and other online auction company s conducive to earning good profits? Why or why
not?
Based on the analysis of the five competitive forces affecting eBay, it appears that the

Alcoholics Anonymous And The Philosophies Essay
Alcoholics Anonymous and The Philosophies in Between:
Conflicting Philosophies Between the Original Twelve Step Alcohol s Anonymous
Program and The New Counseling Profession
Brandon R. McIver
University of Oregon
Abstract
This paper concerns the notoriously well known successful treatment program,
Alcoholics Anonymous twelve step program, and contrasts it to what would be
referred to as a revised version of the original program. Alcoholics Anonymous has
been one of the primary sources of addiction recovery in individuals for numerous
years. It allows its participants, who are deemed to be part of an international
fellowship of both men and women alike, an opportunity to join in a camaraderie that
is self supporting, multiracial, nonprofessional, and conveniently available in a
variety of locations. It aims to let its participants share personal experiences and
partake in a group atmosphere where the lead counselor bans judgment. The
fundamental values of Alcoholics Anonymous exist in the twelve core steps that
attendees are encouraged to follow in an effort to redeem control of their alcohol
addiction problem. Alcoholics Anonymous has been proven to change participants
principal values and assist them in changing their perceived outlook on life for an
increased potential at living a healthier and addiction free lifestyle. However, the
twelve core values of Alcoholics Anonymous have been challenged and questioned in
an effort to
Love and Wealth in the Great Gatsby by F. Scott

The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald is a novel about a rich socialite, Jay
Gatsby, who tries to win back his love, Daisy Buchannan. Nick Caraway, Daisy s
cousin, is the narrator who brings the reader through the time of the roaring
twenties to tell the story of Jay Gatsby. The 1974 film of The Great Gatsby,
directed by Jack Clayton, follows the detailed storyline closely by mirroring it, but
also adds and takes away some aspects of the story. There are many comparisons
that can be made as well as contrasts through the actor, scenery, music, and script
choices for the film. The actor choices from the film compare to what the book
envisioned, but also contrast. The character of Daisy is not similar in the film to what

The scenery choices for the film matched up well to what was expected from the
book, but some choices contrasted greatly. The Valley of Ashes was well
portrayed in the film. The Valley is ...a fantastic farm where ashes grow like wheat
into ridges and hills and grotesque gardens... (Fitzgerald 27). This shows that the
Valley of Ashes is not a pleasant place to be in and is looked down upon. In the
film, the interpretation on the Valley is spot on. It shows a dirty, sad little town,
filled with depressed people. A second scenery choice that is well depicted in the
film is the Buchannan s home. It is described to be very elegant and grand filled
with beautiful furniture. Throughout the scenes in the Buchannan s house, the
grandness is well represented through the furniture, landscaping and exterior
chosen for the house. The exterior of Gatsby s house does not match up to its
description in the book. The one on my right was a colossal affair by any standard
it was a factual imitation of some Hotel de Ville in Normandy, with a tower on one
side... is how Gatsby s house is described (Fitzgerald 9). In the film, the house that
is Gatsby s doesn t nearly stand up to what s pictured from the book. It is large, but
is not as striking as described. Nick s house is also different from expected. In the
film, Nick s house is rather large and nice in contrast to the ...small eye sore... as

Analysis Of Bell Hooks And Frantz Fanon
Both philosophers, bell hooks and Frantz Fanon, address the problem of equality. In
Feminism is for Everybody, hooks defines feminism as a movement to end sexism,
sexist exploitation, and oppression. Hooks begins by stating feminism is for
everybody (2000) and that it is an attempt to end sexism though reform feminism. In
Racism and Culture, Fanon investigates whether ending racism is due to cultural
relativity. In the book by Gloria Anzaldua Borderlands/La Frontera, she describes the
personal struggles she faced through her insecurities relative to the society that exists
today. In agreement, Fanon believes racism can be eliminated once the idea of
superiority is rejected amongst people. This paper investigates both views of the...

Reformist feminism became their route to class mobility... while sexism did not end,
they could maximize their freedom within the existing system (Hooks, 5). It is seen
through reform feminists that women are trying take the role of men in terms of
hierarchy by trying to move up in terms of class. For example, working in the
Federal Bureau of Investigation is portrayed such that women are secretaries and men
are the ones leading investigations out in the field especially on television.
Broadcasting this ideology is partially to blame for the existence of sexism.
Consequently, reform feminism is subjected towards gender equality seen as a
classification.
Fanon believes that there are three stages to racism and culture. One of these
stages include people having no culture through the justification of slavery.
Racism, as we have seen, is only one element of a vaster whole: that of the
systematized oppression of a people (Fanon, 3). Slavery is a form of ownership
where a person known as a slave is controlled and forced to work. This is a
historical example of the oppressed that are taken advantage of and used due to the
fact that they are labeled as property. Racism is something that can be eliminated
once the notion that superiority exists amongst people is rejected.
There are many similarities between Hooks and Fanon in terms of eliminating sexism
and oppression in its entirety. Hooks and Fanon both agree that
Business Communication Is The Art Of Communicating
Business communication is the art of communicating in a professional environment.
It is both an art and science and the life s blood of any successful corporation. The
premise of business communication is that the writer is always speaking with the
audience in mind. She has to make the content relevant and usable to the reader or it
is not effective. Unlike other forms of writing, such as academic writing which has a
captive audience, business writing is always a negotiation with a fluid audience that
has the ability to come or go as they please. It is this dynamic fluidity that draws the
Millennial Generation to the field of business communication in droves. The
Millennial Generation is defined as those born in the early 1981 to 1996 (Millennials
in Adulthood). The digitized world of the Millennials has also transformed the field
of business communication. The Millennials have influenced workplace
communication by creating continuously connected work teams, collaboration
without boarders, and greater diversity in employee engagement. The intertwining of
social media, Millennials, and workplace communication has made the workplace a
more flexible and productive environment. The previous generation could only
transform what they could touch; therefore they were limited in their connectivity
and productivity. These generations known as the baby boomers and the silent
generation, were limited to their one departmental idea. In the spirit of the Ford

A Comparison Of Judges 11 And The Buddhist Katha
Upanishad
The Biblical text Judges 11 and the Buddhist Katha Upanishad both deal with people
receiving an unexpected outcome. To be more specific, two fathers and their children
get something they did not naturally expect considering their previous actions. The
major difference between the two texts is that one involves a tragic outcome that
resulted from good intentions, while the other story plays out in reverse. The
children who are affected by their father s obligations then become the unknowing
heroes of their respective stories and must deal with the consequences. Sacrifice is
the main driving factor that causes the families to receive an unexpected fate. Judges
11 illustrates this through Jephthah s plight. He is introduced as one of the major
judges of Israel and he faces the Ammonites. While asking for Godto... Show more

twenty seven. In 1839, Poe worked as an editor at Burton s Gentleman s Magazine.
He shortly left to try and start his own magazine. Virginia ruptured a blood vessel
and her health fell down in 1842 (Mark 9). When Poe released the The Raven , it

was a very hard time for Poe because Virginia died that year. On September 27th, Poe
took a steamer to Baltimore on his way to New York. Poe was apparently found

Low Carbohydrate Diets Or Ketosis Diets Essay
Very low carbohydrate diets or ketosis diets have become increasingly popular for
weight loss. There is evidence from individual trials about the benefits and risks of
a low carbohydrate diet verses a fat restricted diet (2).The objective of this paper is
to discover whether low carbohydrate diets have more beneficial health related
solutions verses a fat restricted diet. In one study, a traditional low fat diet was
compared to a low carbohydrate diet amongst people who have type two diabetes.
The results show that only a low carbohydrate diet provided significant
improvement of the inflammatory state and type two diabetes. In another
study,Evidence supports a low carbohydrate diet for weight loss and improvement
in traditional cardiovascular disease. The effects of a low carbohydrate diet and a
low fat diet were examined for 12 months among 148 obese adults free of diabetes
and cardiovascular disease. At 12 months participants of low carbohydrate diet had
significantly greater increases in adiponecin than those on a low fat diet, as
resulting low carbohydrate diet had a similar or greater improvement then standard
low fat diet. In another study, 148 men and women without cardiovascular disease
or diabetes were put into either low carbohydrate diet or low fat diet. Both groups
received dietary counseling regularly. Data was collected every three months. Results
stated that those on low carbohydrate diet have greater decrease in weight and
greater increase in HDL
Analysis of the Painting Late Northern Song emperior...
Cranes above Kaifeng or Auspicious Cranes is a hand scroll attributed to one of
the most artistic important figure: Late Northern Song Emperor Huizong (Sturman,
1990). This painting was made to commemorate a rare phenomenon where 20
cranes flying on the sky above the main gate of the palace, Kaifeng, on the day of
Lantern Festival on the year 1112. This phenomenon was believed as a Mandate of
Heaven under the rule of Emperor Huizong (IBID). This auspicious phenomenon,
however, might not be as magical as it seems since Cranes above Kaifeng mirrors
Emperor Huizong s 3 aspects of painting that shows Emperor Huizong s power on art
during his sovereignty. Firstly, auspicious phenomenon mentioned before is known as
ruiying in Chinese. It is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In other words, although he promoted realism, Cranes above Kaifeng is still
subjected to interpretation. In the painting, the cranes were dancing in an elegant
and formally choreographed dance above the city gates among the magical clouds
(Ars orientalis). Seeing this, it might not be convincing to say that the painting is
based on a real life event since it is close to impossible for the cranes to dance in an
exact beautiful formation. Although, it is not unlikely that Huizong did see cranes
above the city gates but he saw or imagine them as if they were dancing instead of
just flying through. Intentionally or not, he then depicted the event so beautifully
in the hand scroll and interpreted it as Mandate of Heaven. Furthermore, during
Huizong s reign, he focused a lot on these auspicious signs and even developed a
record of these by having the citizens to report the sightings (ars orientalis). It was
like a documentation of the blessings that were given to the Song (kertas
selembar). This system, however, made it seems like these auspicious events were
forced and did not happen naturally. This is quite fascinating because it seemed like
Huizong wanted to control Heaven s blessings and as long as the people believed
him, it did not really matter whether those auspicious events were not true. The
documentation or record that was produced acted like evidence that Song is blessed
and Huizong was indeed a legitimate leader. This
Character Analysis Of Iggy Lee In Freak The Mighty
If you have ever heard the quote Don t judge a book by its cover well, that s what
everyone thought of Maxwell Kane in the book Freak the Mighty by Rodman
Philbrick. Everyone knew him as a big kid and the son of the most famous murderer,
Kenny Kane. As the son of a murderer everyone was afraid of him, but like I said
before, don t judge a book by its cover. But everyone did that to Max, just about until
Freak came along and made people think of Max in a new way. The character Iggy
Lee is first described as a Big hairy dude with a beer gut and a bunch of blue tattoos.
He has a beard that looks to be made of barbed wire. If we were judging solely on
his appearance, we might assume that he is big, mean, and bad. In fact, when we
first see him, he looks like a hairy brute. Iggy Lee also seems scary by the way He
is always yelling at Loretta to shut up. This shows that he is somewhat of a bully.
However, we later see him getting All the cops in the town to help out Max. This
refutes our initial judgment by showing that Iggy Lee is a kind, caring person with

The University and Environmental Preservation
The University and Environmental Preservation
Caring for the environment has traditionally been thought of as a responsibility of
environmental organizations such as Greenpeace or the Sierra Club. Universities
have never been thought of as the leaders of environmental preservation until now.
Since universities are looked upon with high regard, many people including President
Baker of Cal Poly, feel that it is the responsibility of the university to set an example
of how the environment is respected and conserved. In his Earth Day speech in
2004, President Baker claims that Cal Poly finds it suitable to be a signatory of the
Talloires Declaration. This is a 10 point plan signed by over 300 universities
worldwide setting out ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Specifically, he mentions the web page and examples of actions taken by the
Facilities Planning Department. This organization has implemented activities and
ideals that are supported by principles of environmental sustainability. Also, in
compliance with the Talloires Declaration, Cal Poly teaches environmentally
responsible citizenship through educational programs. For example, several colleges
offer degree programs and minors that provide emphasis on principles of
sustainability. One last piece of evidence is when President Baker mentions the
specific learning centers and institutions that provide environmental education.
Baker introduces his evidence of the university s compliance by referring to Cal Poly
s Master Plan that sets out the university s mission. According to him, many elements
are included in this mission to create a comprehensive vision of sustainability, one of
these elements being environmental protection. Although this is a valid reason,
President Baker also states other reasons that are not pertinent to the environment. He
speaks of a personally safe university and one that is more culturally diverse.
Throughout the speech, President Baker displays a sense of urgency and passion
about environmental preservation. As the president of the university and host of the
event, he introduces the issue and his stance
The Pros And Cons Of Drug Legalization
Pros and Cons of Drug Legalization
Many feel today we are losing the war on drugs. When a battle goes to the point
where there is no winner, there needs to be a re evaluation of how to solve the
problem. In the case of the war against drugs, years of fighting have caused
increased crime, overcrowding of prisons, and the wasted use of money and
resources with no results. It is now time to look at alternative methods to solve the
nation s drug problem.
Although, legalization will increase use of the drug a majority of use will be by
those who already use drugs not by new comers who might only try it once out of
curiosity. Proof of this can be found in Holland when in 1970 the government
legalized the use of marijuana for adults. The legalization of illicit drugs has proved
that just because a drug is made legal it does not mean it will cause a rapid rise and
abuse by society (Friedman). However, many supporters of continuing the prohibition
of drugs believe that by legalizing drugs they will become more accessible and use
will therefore increase. They base this argument on past experiments ... Show more

By implementing such a program the American population can use its money and
resources to combat the problem through rehabilitation and education instead of
stalling the problem through the legal system. Legalization will decrease violent crime
associated with drug dealers; it will decrease the number of users and will lower
the wasteful cost, which is connected with the current system. Such legalization will
not destroy our youth in any way, because the drugs will only be accessible to
adults in the country. If we continue with our current system we will never solve the
problem. Drug dealers and addicts will continue to crowd our prisons and plague our
streets with violent crime with no hope for help and a better
Analysis Of Imperial Dreams
In Imperial Dreams directed by Malik Booth, one scene shows the main character
Bambi letting his son: Daytone riding a horse, which portrays both his son and his
happiness even though they aren t in a happy environment. This is shown through
different shots and techniques such as; a medium shot showing Daytone riding the
horse; a close up on Bambi s face to show his facial expressions and actors
performance; lighting and colour ; and a long shotto show Bambi paying the man who
owned the horse, money for the horse ride. All these help to show happiness in
Bambi and Daytone.
Malik Booth uses a medium shot to show happiness. Happiness is shown on
Daytone s face when he is seen riding the horse. The medium shot shows Daytone
with a big grin on his face, brightening up his whole face while sitting on top of the
horse. Earlier in the film, we see Daytone playing with a toy horse, which normally
means he likes it. He also doesn t recognize Bambi which means that Day didn t
know his own father. But now Day stays with his father and having him ride an
actual horse is like a big present that is given to us on our birthday or Christmas.
Which normally feels exciting and ecstatic. For Bambi to give this gift to Daytone
which symbolizes the horse, shows the audience how much he cares for him and that
he shows it through this scene.
Malik also uses a close up shot on Bambi s face to show

Essay about Donnie Darko Belonging
Belonging is a perception shaped within personal, social, cultural and historical
context. While to most the concept only includes acceptance and harmony, there can
be two sides to belonging, and Donnie Darko explores this idea through its characters
and their context in the film.
Donnie Darko is set against the backdrop of the 1988 Bush vs. Dukakis Presidential
election; it represents 1980 s conservative America through the last 28 days, 6 hours,
42 minutes and 12 seconds of Donnie Darko s life. There is a strong theme of
insecurity and isolation and many of the characters don t belong throughout the film.
These themes are represented by Kelly using a range of film techniques. The use of

Like Donnie, she sees the bigger picture of society. We are losing them to apathy. She
explains to the indifferent Principal Cole.
I am sorry that you have failed. He replies, after an unsatisfactory explanation for
her dismissal. During the scene, Mrs Pomeroy is seated lower than Principal Cole,
making him seem more powerful and while Mrs Pomeroy s body language is open
and truthful, Principal Cole s is cagey and exasperated, blocked off and protected by
his desk. The audience and Mrs Pomeroy know who is right, but are powerless to
change anything, creating a feeling of isolation.
A sense of irony is created as the most honest people in the film are labelled as
mentally unstable (Donnie is diagnosed with schizophrenia) or, in Ms Pomeroy s
case, unsuitable figures of authority, whereas characters such as Jim Cunningham,
while famous and respected are revealed as false (Donnie burns down Jim s house to
expose a kiddie porn dungeon ).
While outcasts of society, they all are connected by their position, which could be
seen as either a blessing or curse. To be happily oblivious to the shortcomings of
society might be wistfully contemplated, however, given the choice, I don t think the
characters would choose it.
Watching this movie, I felt I could relate to them, as I think everyone does, having
experienced life so far. It s confusing and frustrating sometimes. I m sure everyone
has times where they feel like an alien
The World And Empires By Anthony Pagden
Peoples and Empires Throughout history there have been a multitude of different
empires to rise up and conquer land, along with the people inhabiting that land. More
often than not, these empires fell. Whether the empire was quickly abolished, or it
maintained power for decades, most of them were over thrown. Anthony Pagden,
who at the time of publication was a history professor at John Hopkins, wrote the
book Peoples and Empires in 2003 to explain the history of the once Great European
Empires . These empires included, but are not limited to, the French, the Spanish, the
British, and the Roman Empire. One major idea of the content focuses on how these
particular empires justified their conquering, not only to themselves, but also to
their followers and the people who rebelled against them. Conquerors would travel
to the ends of the earth in order to obtain more land which in turn is more power.
However, in order to do this they had to justify their actions to the individuals
occupying that land. In doing so, they fabricated what they assumed were
acceptable reasons as to why an empire was more luxurious, or in other words
better , than the systems they had in place before. The most common ideology
between all of the empires was the simple idea of being civilized versus being
barbaric or savage . Pagden thoroughly explains how the empires used this ideology
and coupled it with small force to justify their actions and the overall concept of an
empire: They
Gender Discrimination In Australia
2.1Early Legislation
The Sex Discrimination Act (SDA) was introduced in 1975 to eliminate
discrimination between sexes. The Equal Opportunities Commission was setup under
the SDA and had the power to enforce this Act, the Equal Pay Act 1970 and other
legislation to protect gender equality that existed at the time.
In 1976 the then European Economic Community (EEC) implemented the Equal
Treatment Directive (ETD), the first European wide employment legislation applied
to all members of the EEC. Its principle was the equal treatment of men and women
in employment, working conditions, promotion and training.

There has been criticism of the Act recently, in particular its definition of disability

The Distinct Characteristics of Fascism and Prominant...
According to Merriam Webster s online dictionary (n.d.), Fascism is defined as a
way of classifying a society in which a government ruled by a dictator controls the
lives of the people and in which individuals are not allowed to disagree with the
government. It is derived from the Italian word fasces which mean a bundle of rods
with an axe blade protruding. This signifies the authority of magistrates in Imperial
Rome.
Generally, fascism is one of the political ideologies among many others such as
liberalism, conservatism, socialism, anarchism, nationalism, fascism, ecologism,
religious fundamentalism and multiculturalism. To paint a clearer picture, an
ideology, as stated by McLellan (1995) is the most elusive concept in the whole of
the social sciences. This is said to occur because all concepts of ideology recognises
a link between theory and practice and also because it has not been able to stand
apart from the on going struggle amid and amongst political ideologies.
In the Political Spectrum, fascism is often classified or referred to as far right or
extreme politics that are considered to be further to the right of the mainstream
centre right. However, fascism was widely supported by the middle and lower
middle class society which brought about the term of fascism being the extremism
of the centre. There are several factors as to why the former classes of society
adopted this ideology; namely due to the economic, political and social conditions,

Students need to have advocates that care for their personal needs and the type of
education they are receiving. School social workers provide the schools with
resources to address personal and social problems the students is experiencing

families, and the community to increase the chances of students been successful in
the classrooms. Students will have the chance to have a person that can provide early
interventions, group or individual counseling, and provide appropriate training
programs. According to Alvarez et al. (2013), there is a link between having a school
social worker in the schools and having a higher number of students graduating from

Corruption In The Film Mr. Smith Goes To Washington
Corruption in the United States government takes the power away from the people
and puts it into the hands of elite groups and politicians. This corruption is prevalent
in the film Mr. Smith goes to Washington . The film has a strong message about
corruption in the government, and places an innocent and naГЇve character, Mr.
Smith in the middle of the corruption. In Washington, Mr. Smith discovers the
corruption that has overtaken the capitol, but does not let it falter his integrity.
Although Mr. Smith is surrounded by corruption, he is able to fight the system and
bring some integrity back to Washington. The film portrays the government in a very
negative light and shows how the senators have no real influence on lawmaking. Mr.
Smith s struggles as a senator gave the impression that the government functions
completely on bribery, blackmail, and lies. The film gives a very strong message
about the lack of democracy in American government and politics, along with the
ignorance of the American people. Mr. Smith portrays the average American citizen:

Nature Versus Nurture Has Been A Big Debate In The Past
Nature versus nurture has been a big debate in the past few years. Debates and
arguments from both sides has its own statements which makes their side stronger.
Some argue that it is in the genetics if a person is intelligent where some state the
opposite, that surroundings make a person intelligent which improves them in a
person mentally and physically. In the 1950s psychologist Harry Harlow studied the
effects of maternal deprivation on the development of baby monkeys. Some
philosophers such as Plato and Descartes suggested that certain things are inborn
(Saul McLeod, 2007), or that they occur naturally regardless of environmental
influences. Other examples of nature debates were Bowlby s 1969 theory of
attachment likewise Chomsky s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The dizygotic twins show a higher correlation than their other siblings even when
reared apart supporting the theory that nature does have a major influence on
human intelligence. Nurture intelligence is another factor which is still unfolded.
Some believe that upbringing a child in a proper environment can effect their
mood, body and their views towards to world. If someone s brought up in an
environment where he or she gets all the facilities and necessities of daily life, it
will help through the entire life, in saying that if the person receives the correct
surroundings, family support, supportive friends circle, it can help them throughout
the journey of life. Family habits, interests and company of good people as
mentioned above will leave a significant effect on the person s development. The
nature theory holds the genetic influence over abstract traits however, the
environmental factors are the real origins of our behaviour. We want to be according
to the environment around us. At the end we are still confused which way is right
nature or nurture since both sides have valid reasons to be right. Some traits come to
us by genes and some we experience through travelling and experiencing different
situations in our lifetime, which is a proven fact. Nurture helps shape our intelligence
in the sense that what surrounds us is what we end up liking and
7 Years War Salutary Neglect Essay
The British defeat of the French following the French and Indian War (also known

was a period of time in which the British interfered very little in colonial affairs, and
this lasted from the end of the 1600s up until the British victory over the French in
the 7 Years War. The end of salutary neglect marked the beginning of Britain s
increasing control over the American colonies and attempt in raising taxes to help

Many things stayed the same, which is why the American Revolution was as big of a
turning point in American history, as most people make it to be. The most important
aspects of American life that remained stagnant after the Revolution were the class
structures and social classes present in the United States. If anything, the social
classes in America became even more polarized as those who were part of the
wealthy elite group rose to power while the poor shrank back in oppression. The
new nation found itself possessed of enormous wealth so that it could create the
richest ruling class in history. When Loyalist land was confiscated after the war, it
was distributed among the Revolutionary leaders, so they could enrich themselves

This article speaks to the minds of people who have been sexually harassed at work
in the 2000s. When written, the article explained that in the last two years sexual
harassment in the workplace had actually increased. It also explains the difference
between a minor incident that may involve an inappropriate comment and many
inappropriate comments that may begin affecting workmanship. Previous articles
have stated most of the time sexual harassment is based upon leadership and
masculinity, but Cates and Machin state there is no reason behind it. According to
the article, there are many types of sexual harassment: verbal/written, physical,
nonverbal (inappropriate staring), severe/pervasive (attempted rape). These are split,
according to the EEOC (Equal Employment Opportunity Commission) into two
factions, quid pro quo and hostile. The consequences of these actions need to be

imagination. The curves, the colour scheme that is used, the use of bones, it is
simply captivating! This is what Gaudi s work is about to create an impact on its
viewers. I really appreciate this work of his because he created something completely
different, something out of the ordinary.
Another one of Gaudi s famous work is the Sagrada Familia. Though it is unfinished
it is still on of the famous attractions in Barcelona. Whilst the building was actually
started by Francisco de Paula Villar, It was Antonio Gaudi who took over in 1884 by
finishing the underground crypt that Villar had begun to give Sagrada Familia a
unique twist and a revolutionary design. Gaudi incorporates his religious side into
this building.
The church was designed to have a total length of 110 m, and a height of 45 m,
with twelve towers between 100 and 115 m high. The ground plan is a Gothic
basilical plan in the shape of a Latin cross, with five naves connecting with a transept
that connects to three naves, apse, and ambulatory. The rest of the church is
conceived in an organic style,
Why to Select Third Party Tools to Manage Server and...
Microsoft has equipped the organizations with the Windows server operating system
and other server tools like Exchange Server, SQL Server, SharePoint Server, etc. In
addition, there are inbuilt server tools like DNS Server, DHCP Server, File Server,
and Active Directory to create a complete networking infrastructure inside an
organization. However, the server and networking management using the traditional
Microsofttools become obsolete at a level. In this blog post, we ll discuss how these
tools fail to serve the purpose and why the need of using third party tools arises.
Scenarios
1.Managing Users in Large Organizations
Let us suppose a case of a large organization has fifty different departments, each of
which contains hundreds of employees segregated on different positions. A large IT
helpdesk of at least 70 or more members is at least required to meet the IT
requirements in this case. Suppose the IT staff is required to create the user accounts
of 200 new users who ve to join in the different departments next week, audit 300
users of five departments, and to keep a check on the file modifications on the file
server to trace the unauthorized accesses to the sensitive data. How much time will
they take for these three tasks? Almost three to four weeks, but the management
wants them to complete this task in four days without a hit to the daily demands of
troubleshooting the computers, managing the networks, seeing the logon/logoff, and
other work. Is it possible? The
Leon Trotsky s Influence On The Soviet Revolution

Leon Trotsky
Leon Trotsky was a man to be reckoned with. Trotsky was a Marxist revolutionary
who played a leading role in the 1905 Revolution, in the eventual Communist
Revolution of October 1917, and in the Russian Civil War. Without Trotsky s impact
in the Russian Revolution, the Bolsheviks would have been defeated. His own
beliefs on Marxism combined with his intellect made Trotsky a target and influential
leader in the Soviets. From his studies on Marxism, he created Trotskyism, a Marxist
ideology based on the theory of permanent revolution. Also, his organization building
skills and revolutionary military ideas made him a great military leader. However,
Leon Trotsky was also prone to arrogance, fatal over confidence, dismissiveness and
sarcasm, qualities that contributed to his demise. His downfall was caused by Joseph
Stalin as well. Joseph Stalin set out to destroy the old party leadership and take total
control. Leon Trotsky was one of the most influential Russian leaders, because of his
political and military leadership and revolutionary theories.
Leon Trotsky helped make the Soviet army a revolutionary force with his military
ideas and organization building skills. As commissar of war, Trotsky established a
system of discipline and hierarchical control, while also emphatically rejecting
attempts to enthrone new military orthodoxies based on partisan

Running head: THE CONCENTRATION OF
The Concentration of Solutes affects the Rate of Osmosis
Chintan Jani

Abstract The purpose of this lab was to observe the osmosis rates and mass changes
of dialysis tubes. To this three dialysis tubes with differing sucrose levels were tested
on their rate of osmosis and weighed at 15 minute intervals. The results found
described that as the sucrose level increases the rate of osmosis increased as well.
Introduction
The purpose of this experiment was to determine if the rate of osmosis has an impact
on the concentration of solutes. During this lab varying levels of sucrose were put
into dialysis bags and then into containers with varying levels of sucrose. This was
done to observe how the water moved through the dialysis tubes. This process is
known as osmosis is ...diffusion of water across a selectively permeable membrane
from high to low concentration... (Mader et. al., 2015) . The movement of water
across the membrane can be determined by the concentration of solutes inside the
dialysis bags and the solution surrounding it. If the cell is hypotonic, meaning it has a
lower osmotic pressure, its water concentration is lower than that of the concentration
in the cell, which can cause a rupture. If the cell is hypertonic, meaning it has a
higher osmotic pressure; its water concentration is lower outside the cell then it is
inside causing the cell to shrivel up. The hypothesis tested
Essay About Pegasus
Pegasus is the winged horse of Greek mythology. The horse is usually white in
color, beautiful and is the symbol of strength, inspiration and flight. It was born
from the blood of Medusa (a lovely young maiden), when she was slain by Perseus
with his magical sword. The God of earth, Poseidon was Pegasus father.
Poseidon became infatuated with Medusa, he seduced her into the temple of Athena
(goddess of wisdom). Because of this, Athena became infuriated and took her anger
out on Medusa. She was so angry that she turned the maiden into a Gorgon, a
terrifying female creature with hairs of venomous snakes and whose glance will turn
a person to stone.
One day, the King Polydetes fell in love with Danae, a woman who had a young son
named Persues. Persues tried to protect her mother who did not want to marry the
King but had little success. The king would let ... Show more content on

This duo were sent on many other quests after this, and of course with an attempt of
killing the Bellerophon. However, all attempts failed and the pair appeared to be
invicible.
However, knowing that they were unbeatable, Bellerophon became proud and wanted
more power. Bellerophon wanted to become a god and tried to ride Pegasus to Mount
Olympus. Zeus was not happy with this and sent a gadfly to bite Pegasus which
caused him to fall to the ground. His attempt failed, and instead of becoming a god,
he became blind and crippled.
Pegasus, however, was honored by Zeus. The horse was given a special stable and
was allowed to fetch thunderbolts and lightning for Zeus. Pegasus later found a mate,
Euippe, and they had two offspring, Melanippe and Celeris. From this family came a
new race of winged horse. Although Pegasus was not immortal, Zeus transformed
him into a constellation on the last day where we can still see him today.

Theories Of Grammar And Pedagogical Grammar
Applying Cognitive Linguistics to Teaching Cognitive Grammar
By Fereshteh Yavar. 911069948
Abstract
This paper deals with the relation between cognitive linguistic theories of grammar
and pedagogical grammar.
1. Introduction
Cognitive Linguistics (CL) is by nature cross disciplinary and among the most
obviously related fields are psychology, neurophysiology, computer science and
general cognitive science.
In the last 30 years, a new paradigm in linguistics, CL, has revealed that much that
has been supposed different and arbitrary under the traditional aspect of language is,
actually, systematic. CL supplies a combined, accessible account of how many
grammatical constructions and lexical items work, and how different uses of these
forms are systematically related to one another. Because CL accepts a usage based
approach to language, it is aware of the contexts in which lexical items and
grammatical constructions occur.
For the teacher, this approach has the potential to provide rich insights into the
organization of motivation for the core and extraordinary uses related with features of
grammar.
Cognitive English Grammar is not purposeful as an ... Show more content on

Nor have the sample descriptions been anything more than fragmentary. If we
nevertheless suppose that CL concepts and descriptions are relevant for language
instruction, a basic question remains to be addressed: Just who are they relevant to?
The main possibilities are the student, the instructor, and those responsible for
designing curricula or developing teaching materials. Assuming their validity, explicit
awareness of CL notions would seem most clearly helpful for the latter. With
effective materials and a sensible curriculum, an instructor with lesser awareness of
CL insights can nonetheless still exploit them. And learner would hopefully benefit
even if they are never exposed to Theoretical concepts or explicit
Mixing Bowl Depicting Dueling Scene From The Trojan War
Storytelling Through The Ages Art tells a story. No matter how you swing it there
s a rhyme or reason as to why it was created. Ancient art is no exception to this
especially when it comes to the ancient Greeks and the Chinese. Mixing Bowl
Depicting Dueling Scene from the Trojan War and the Nine Dragons scroll, though
seemingly different have a lot more in common with each other than initially visible.
Chinese scroll art starts with mounting the backs of silks with paper and pasting
them before creating the borders of the scroll. The whole scroll is then backed
before the roller or fittings are attached. This process could take weeks or months.
There are five different traditional formats that scrolls were painted in. Thin strip,...

The process consisted of throwing the pieces on the wheel then joining them
together with slip. Then the decorations were added. There are two main ways that
Greek pottery was decorated, red figure and black figure. Black figure is when a
alkali potash or soda, which is clay with silicon content, and black ferrous oxide of
iron is added to create the figures on the vessel. The opposite is true for Red figure.
This is when the black was added to create all the lines, leaving the figures red. The
Mixing Bowl Depicting Dueling Scenes from the Trojan War is a red figure vessel
that tells two related stories on each side. On side A, the MFA Boston website says
the story is this: His death at the hands of Achilles was described in the Aethiopis, a
lost epic poem. Achilles and Memnon wear corselets covered with plates of scale
armor. Achilles carries a Theban shield, with deep, semi circular notches; the device
on the front is not visible but Memnon s shield has the head of a gorgon. Encouraged
by Athena who holds out her snake rimmed Aegis, Achilles has stabbed Memnon,
who falls into the arms of his mother Eos, goddess of the Dawn. She carried his body
to Ethiopia, where, at her urging, Zeus granted him
Great Nursing Traits
When I first told my family I wanted to be a nurse, they were all shocked. They
assumed that I wouldn t be able to do it because I m more reserved and introverted
at times, but they forgot about my other traits that would make me a great nurse. I
am very independent, caring, and straightforward. Those are great traits for nursing
because I ll be able to genuinely care for my patients, but not hold back when I am
informing them about their situation. My interest in nursing began after I would
watch shows like Botched and Grey s Anatomy ; the whole hospital setting really
intrigues me. Also, learning about sickness and diseases in my Biomedical Science
class has played a big part in inspiring me to be a nurse. By the end of my senior year,

There are so many really big animals in there that could swallow me in one bite! Then I close my eyes and focus on my breathing. Take a deep breath in and let it out. • 5. The Characteristics Of Baroque Music At first glance, a number of pieces of baroque music can seem pretty straightforward and simplistic. When performed exactly as it is written, usually by amateurs, the music may not be able to grab the listener s attention and it is easy to assume that listeners back then had different musical ears that modern listeners do that gave them the ability to tolerate such simplistic pieces. Could this really be the musicthat some records have shown to drive people of the Baroqueera to tears and even the urge to faint? It is when a vocalist begins to embellish and ornament the various notes and give their own improvisational touches to the piece that it truly begins to have character and grips the listener with it s pulchritudinous composition, such as is with works such as Monteverdi s famous Ariadne s Lament, a gorgeous work capable of moving most to tears; this is the importance of ornamentation when it comes to musicians performing Baroque era music. Unfortunately, there has been little research and discussion on what vocal characteristics are suitable for the most authentic Baroque performance. A very common misunderstanding is that Baroque music is innately limited, simple, or uninspired; however, the truth of it is that the music of the Baroque gives the performer the freedom personal expression and individualized that is unrivaled by most other periods of music history. To further illustrate, the Baroque era is like the instructor that assigns a creative writing
  • 6. An Globalized World Burden Of Private Investment Is... Abstract: There is growing consensus among researchers and academicians that in this globalized world the burden of private investment is increasing over Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). Because of a declining trend in public investment the task of capital formation rests over the shoulder of private investment and thus FDI playing a leading role in determining the fate of the economy. The economies receiving more inflow of FDI, are realizing a comparatively high growth and vice versa. This is also expected to be happen in India. The present paper discusses the relationship between the inflow of FDI and GDP. It has been found that FDI has a positive correlation with GDP. the regression analysis between GDP and FDI of different sectors also supported the same result which shows that FDI inflow in India is playing very important role in determining the size of GDP. Key Word: Foreign Direct Investment, Sustainable Growth, GDP, Farm Production Introduction: The process of planning in India has always been sensitive to the needs of the poor and the plight of excluded from its early days. Government of India sought to solve all the socio economic problems with the help of rapid and sustained economic growth, because our planners were working with the view that as the size of national income will be high individuals can share more and vice versa (Hashim, S.R., 2007). Mainly because of this reason economic growth has always been the centre of objectives of India s Five Year
  • 7. Essay about The Effect of Highspeed Trains on Society The Effect of Highspeed Trains on Society A major reason in favor of the construction of high speed trains in America is to relieve airways and traffic congestion. First, delays at airports are costly. Larry Johnson, director of the Center for transportation Research at Argonne National Laboratory near Chicago, calculates that passengers lose more that twelve million hours each year in delays at O Hare airport alone. In 1986, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) airlines, delays cost five billion dollars, including two billion in extra fuel and labor cost, for the ailing airline industry. According to the FAA, relieving airport congestion will cost one hundred and seventeen billion over the next decade (Mobey 14).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the next twenty years, this insidious tax is projected to nearly double (Mallinckarodt p1). Bill Fay said, Cars stuck in traffic waste more fuel and emit more pollutants than cars that are moving (Dahl 4). High occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes are one of the primary tools used to reduce traffic congestion on the state highway system and improve air quality ( HOV Lanes in California #8230; p1). The usual goal of HOV lane restrictions is to provide overall congestion, and emissions reduction (Mallinckdet. p 1). However, in recent years, HOV lanes effectiveness in achieving these goals has come in to question ( HOV Lanes in California #8230; p1). When drivers use a highway, they do not pay the cost that they may be imposing on other drivers. Ideally, traffic should flow smoothly at the speed limit. However, as traffic increases, eventually the addition of one more vehicle will slow the flow and increase the travel time of other vehicles. At this point congestion (the negative externality) begins (Dahl p4). Sen Daniel Patrick Moynihan said, The train technology, offers great opportunities to reduce congestion in our surface and air transportation system (Clough 9). Thus building high speed trains would aid the problem of increasing congestion at America s airports and on the highways. Those who argue against high speed trains cite their

  • 9. Life Worth In Hamlet What is your life worth to you? How do you assess value in your life? These might be questions you ve thought about before, or they may not be. Do you view your worth as a dollar estimate or do you look at your value on emotional terms? In Shakespeare s Hamlet, we see a very contemptuous outlook on life, from an emotional standpoint. Rather than overcoming his troubles, he wallows in his own heartache. Compared to the actions of Roger Ebertand Steve Jobs, Hamlet is a foil. In times of tragedy it is important to realize what truly matters to you, and not what seems to be important for the moment. We come to understand this critical concept through Ebert and Jobs. Not only that, but we also come to realize the idea of assigning value to someone s life from a financial standpoint is unjust, because our true value lies within the relationships we develop and the legacy we leave behind. In our first reading, we can conclude that Hamlet s perspective on life s worth is dismissive; he in fact despises his life so much, he wishes he could end it. Hamlet, the main character of Shakespeare s play titled Hamlet, declares that life is nothing more than a sea of troubles (Ln. 4) Although I admire William Shakespeares timeless work, I think his central claim, to be or not to be (Ln.1) is pessimistic and cowardly. I personally disagree with Hamlet even though his outlook on life is evaluated on an emotional level rather than financial. But how can anyone be happy when their vision of

  • 11. The Theology Of The United Methodist Church When I was 10 years old Rev. Holland Vaughn looked into my eyes and said, Michael, you are going to be a pastor one day. I found his prophetic pronouncement humorous. One, because I had no intention of ever becoming a pastor, and two because even at that age I was already running with neighborhood gangs and engaged in very unchristian activities. As the acolyte, week after week I carried my candle lighter and sat beside him on the altar. I watched the people laugh, cry, fall asleep, and occasionally shout an enthusiastic amen! This diverse witness has been shaped and preserved over the centuries of Christian teaching and reflection on the Gospel. The Book of Discipline defines Christian experience as the personal appropriation of God s forgiving and empowering grace yet also highlights the necessary intersection of the Bible and our experience, Our experience interacts with Scripture. Thus, while I read Scripture through the lens of my own formation, the Bible interprets my

  • 13. Internal And External Environment Analysis Essay When developing effective business strategies, organizations must thoroughly analyze both the internal and external environments in which they operate (Hill, Jones, Schilling, 2014, p. 11). This analysis will enable them to pinpoint those elements that threaten their current and future profitability as well as those elements that offer the potential to increase current and future profitability (Hill, et al., 2014, pp. 44 45). The external environment analysis specifically looks at the industry within which a business functions as well as the competitive forces that affect and influence the nature of that industry. One way in which to examine these forces is by utilizing Michael E. Porter s Five Forces model, which looks at the affect of competitors (both emerging and current), the bargaining power of suppliers and buyers, in addition to the threat of substitutes (Hill, et al., 2014, p. 48) on a specific business. This paper sets out to investigate the external environment of eBay, using Porter s model, to determine how these competitive pressures could potentially affect the online auctionsite/retailer s future success. What does your five forces analysis reveal about the nature and strength of the various competitive pressures eBay faces? Are the competitive pressures facing eBay and other online auction company s conducive to earning good profits? Why or why not? Based on the analysis of the five competitive forces affecting eBay, it appears that the online auction

Alcoholics Anonymous And The Philosophies Essay Alcoholics Anonymous and The Philosophies in Between: Conflicting Philosophies Between the Original Twelve Step Alcohol s Anonymous Program and The New Counseling Profession Brandon R. McIver University of Oregon Abstract This paper concerns the notoriously well known successful treatment program, Alcoholics Anonymous twelve step program, and contrasts it to what would be referred to as a revised version of the original program. Alcoholics Anonymous has been one of the primary sources of addiction recovery in individuals for numerous years. It allows its participants, who are deemed to be part of an international fellowship of both men and women alike, an opportunity to join in a camaraderie that is self supporting, multiracial, nonprofessional, and conveniently available in a variety of locations. It aims to let its participants share personal experiences and partake in a group atmosphere where the lead counselor bans judgment. The fundamental values of Alcoholics Anonymous exist in the twelve core steps that attendees are encouraged to follow in an effort to redeem control of their alcohol addiction problem. Alcoholics Anonymous has been proven to change participants principal values and assist them in changing their perceived outlook on life for an increased potential at living a healthier and addiction free lifestyle. However, the twelve core values of Alcoholics Anonymous have been challenged and questioned in an effort to

Nick Caraway, Daisy s cousin, is the narrator who brings the reader through the time of the roaring twenties to tell the story of Jay Gatsby. The 1974 film of The Great Gatsby, directed by Jack Clayton, follows the detailed storyline closely by mirroring it, but also adds and takes away some aspects of the story. The scenery choices for the film matched up well to what was expected from the book, but some choices contrasted greatly. The Valley of Ashes was well portrayed in the film. The Valley is ...a fantastic farm where ashes grow like wheat into ridges and hills and grotesque gardens... (Fitzgerald 27). This shows that the Valley of Ashes is not a pleasant place to be in and is looked down upon. In the film, the interpretation on the Valley is spot on. It shows a dirty, sad little town, filled with depressed people. A second scenery choice that is well depicted in the film is the Buchannan s home. It is described to be very elegant and grand filled with beautiful furniture. Throughout the scenes in the Buchannan s house, the grandness is well represented through the furniture, landscaping and exterior chosen for the house. The exterior of Gatsby s house does not match up to its description in the book. The one on my right was a colossal affair by any standard it was a factual imitation of some Hotel de Ville in Normandy, with a tower on one side... is how Gatsby s house is described (Fitzgerald 9). In Feminism is for Everybody, hooks defines feminism as a movement to end sexism, sexist exploitation, and oppression. Hooks begins by stating feminism is for everybody (2000) and that it is an attempt to end sexism though reform feminism. In Racism and Culture, Fanon investigates whether ending racism is due to cultural relativity. For example, working in the Federal Bureau of Investigation is portrayed such that women are secretaries and men are the ones leading investigations out in the field especially on television. Broadcasting this ideology is partially to blame for the existence of sexism. Consequently, reform feminism is subjected towards gender equality seen as a classification. Fanon believes that there are three stages to racism and culture. One of these stages include people having no culture through the justification of slavery. Racism, as we have seen, is only one element of a vaster whole: that of the systematized oppression of a people (Fanon, 3). Slavery is a form of ownership where a person known as a slave is controlled and forced to work. This is a historical example of the oppressed that are taken advantage of and used due to the fact that they are labeled as property. Racism is something that can be eliminated once the notion that superiority exists amongst people is rejected. There are many similarities between Hooks and Fanon in terms of eliminating sexism and oppression in its entirety. Hooks and Fanon both agree that
  • 17. Business Communication Is The Art Of Communicating Business communication is the art of communicating in a professional environment. It is both an art and science and the life s blood of any successful corporation. The premise of business communication is that the writer is always speaking with the audience in mind. She has to make the content relevant and usable to the reader or it is not effective. Unlike other forms of writing, such as academic writing which has a captive audience, business writing is always a negotiation with a fluid audience that has the ability to come or go as they please. It is this dynamic fluidity that draws the Millennial Generation to the field of business communication in droves. The Millennial Generation is defined as those born in the early 1981 to 1996 (Millennials in Adulthood). • 18. A Comparison Of Judges 11 And The Buddhist Katha Upanishad The Biblical text Judges 11 and the Buddhist Katha Upanishad both deal with people receiving an unexpected outcome. To be more specific, two fathers and their children get something they did not naturally expect considering their previous actions. The major difference between the two texts is that one involves a tragic outcome that resulted from good intentions, while the other story plays out in reverse. The children who are affected by their father s obligations then become the unknowing heroes of their respective stories and must deal with the consequences. In other words, although he promoted realism, Cranes above Kaifeng is still subjected to interpretation. In the painting, the cranes were dancing in an elegant and formally choreographed dance above the city gates among the magical clouds (Ars orientalis). Seeing this, it might not be convincing to say that the painting is based on a real life event since it is close to impossible for the cranes to dance in an exact beautiful formation. Although, it is not unlikely that Huizong did see cranes above the city gates but he saw or imagine them as if they were dancing instead of just flying through. Intentionally or not, he then depicted the event so beautifully in the hand scroll and interpreted it as Mandate of Heaven. Furthermore, during Huizong s reign, he focused a lot on these auspicious signs and even developed a record of these by having the citizens to report the sightings (ars orientalis). It was like a documentation of the blessings that were given to the Song (kertas selembar). This system, however, made it seems like these auspicious events were forced and did not happen naturally. This is quite fascinating because it seemed like Huizong wanted to control Heaven s blessings and as long as the people believed him, it did not really matter whether those auspicious events were not true. The documentation or record that was produced acted like evidence that Song is blessed and Huizong was indeed a legitimate leader. This

The World And Empires By Anthony Pagden Peoples and Empires Throughout history there have been a multitude of different empires to rise up and conquer land, along with the people inhabiting that land. More often than not, these empires fell. Whether the empire was quickly abolished, or it maintained power for decades, most of them were over thrown. Anthony Pagden, who at the time of publication was a history professor at John Hopkins, wrote the book Peoples and Empires in 2003 to explain the history of the once Great European Empires . These empires included, but are not limited to, the French, the Spanish, the British, and the Roman Empire. One major idea of the content focuses on how these particular empires justified their conquering, not only to themselves, but also to their followers and the people who rebelled against them. Conquerors would travel to the ends of the earth in order to obtain more land which in turn is more power. However, in order to do this they had to justify their actions to the individuals occupying that land. In doing so, they fabricated what they assumed were acceptable reasons as to why an empire was more luxurious, or in other words better , than the systems they had in place before. The most common ideology between all of the empires was the simple idea of being civilized versus being barbaric or savage . Pagden thoroughly explains how the empires used this ideology and coupled it with small force to justify their actions and the overall concept of an empire: They

According to Merriam Webster s online dictionary (n.d.), Fascism is defined as a way of classifying a society in which a government ruled by a dictator controls the lives of the people and in which individuals are not allowed to disagree with the government. According to the article, there are many types of sexual harassment: verbal/written, physical, nonverbal (inappropriate staring), severe/pervasive (attempted rape). These are split, according to the EEOC (Equal Employment Opportunity Commission) into two factions, quid pro quo and hostile. The consequences of these actions need to be enforced by not only termination, but possible convictions, as well. Mainiero, L., Jones, K. (2012). One of Gaudi s most impressive and beautiful buildings is Casa BatllГі. GaudГ designed the building for Josep BatllГі, a wealthy aristocrat, as an upmarket home. He had asked Gaudi to tear down the old one to reconstruct a new one. GaudГ managed to convince BattlГі to remodel the existing building instead of tearing it down, and between 1904 and 1906 he redesigned the facade and roof, added an extra floor and completely remodeled the interior. This building clearly illustrated Gaudi s work. His use of flowing organic lines are evident and can be seen in my details in the structure.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This work of Gaudi I believe is a clear example of an Artist s vision. Gaudi incorporated his creativeness into a building produced a concrete example of his vision. To me it feels like this building you might see in Disneyland, but here it is on a normal street of Barcelona erected amongst other buildings. Yet it questions our imagination. The curves, the colour scheme that is used, the use of bones, it is simply captivating! This is what Gaudi s work is about to create an impact on its viewers. I really appreciate this work of his because he created something completely different, something out of the ordinary. Another one of Gaudi s famous work is the Sagrada Familia. Though it is unfinished it is still on of the famous attractions in Barcelona. Whilst the building was actually started by Francisco de Paula Villar, It was Antonio Gaudi who took over in 1884 by finishing the underground crypt that Villar had begun to give Sagrada Familia a unique twist and a revolutionary design. Gaudi incorporates his religious side into this building. The church was designed to have a total length of 110 m, and a height of 45 m, with twelve towers between 100 and 115 m high. The ground plan is a Gothic basilical plan in the shape of a Latin cross, with five naves connecting with a transept that connects to three naves, apse, and ambulatory. The rest of the church is conceived in an organic style,
  • 40. Why to Select Third Party Tools to Manage Server and... Microsoft has equipped the organizations with the Windows server operating system and other server tools like Exchange Server, SQL Server, SharePoint Server, etc. In addition, there are inbuilt server tools like DNS Server, DHCP Server, File Server, and Active Directory to create a complete networking infrastructure inside an organization. However, the server and networking management using the traditional Microsofttools become obsolete at a level. In this blog post, we ll discuss how these tools fail to serve the purpose and why the need of using third party tools arises. Scenarios 1.Managing Users in Large Organizations Let us suppose a case of a large organization has fifty different departments, each of which contains hundreds of employees segregated on different positions. A large IT helpdesk of at least 70 or more members is at least required to meet the IT requirements in this case. Suppose the IT staff is required to create the user accounts of 200 new users who ve to join in the different departments next week, audit 300 users of five departments, and to keep a check on the file modifications on the file server to trace the unauthorized accesses to the sensitive data. How much time will they take for these three tasks? Almost three to four weeks, but the management wants them to complete this task in four days without a hit to the daily demands of troubleshooting the computers, managing the networks, seeing the logon/logoff, and other work. Is it possible? The
  • 41. Leon Trotsky s Influence On The Soviet Revolution John McNally Ms. Zbrzeznj Global Perspectives 13 March 2015 Leon Trotsky Leon Trotsky was a man to be reckoned with. Trotsky was a Marxist revolutionary who played a leading role in the 1905 Revolution, in the eventual Communist Revolution of October 1917, and in the Russian Civil War. Without Trotsky s impact in the Russian Revolution, the Bolsheviks would have been defeated. His own beliefs on Marxism combined with his intellect made Trotsky a target and influential leader in the Soviets. From his studies on Marxism, he created Trotskyism, a Marxist ideology based on the theory of permanent revolution. Also, his organization building skills and revolutionary military ideas made him a great military leader. However, Leon Trotsky was also prone to arrogance, fatal over confidence, dismissiveness and sarcasm, qualities that contributed to his demise. His downfall was caused by Joseph Stalin as well. Joseph Stalin set out to destroy the old party leadership and take total control. Leon Trotsky was one of the most influential Russian leaders, because of his political and military leadership and revolutionary theories. Leon Trotsky helped make the Soviet army a revolutionary force with his military ideas and organization building skills. As commissar of war, Trotsky established a system of discipline and hierarchical control, while also emphatically rejecting attempts to enthrone new military orthodoxies based on partisan

The Concentration Of Solutes Affects The Rate Of Osmosis Running head: THE CONCENTRATION OF The Concentration of Solutes affects the Rate of Osmosis Chintan Jani Biology 101 01 Dr. Reynolds October 6, 2016 Abstract The purpose of this lab was to observe the osmosis rates and mass changes of dialysis tubes. To this three dialysis tubes with differing sucrose levels were tested on their rate of osmosis and weighed at 15 minute intervals. The results found described that as the sucrose level increases the rate of osmosis increased as well. Introduction The purpose of this experiment was to determine if the rate of osmosis has an impact on the concentration of solutes. During this lab varying levels of sucrose were put into dialysis bags and then into containers with varying levels of sucrose. This was done to observe how the water moved through the dialysis tubes. This process is known as osmosis is ...diffusion of water across a selectively permeable membrane from high to low concentration... (Mader et. al., 2015) . The movement of water across the membrane can be determined by the concentration of solutes inside the dialysis bags and the solution surrounding it. If the cell is hypotonic, meaning it has a lower osmotic pressure, its water concentration is lower than that of the concentration in the cell, which can cause a rupture. If the cell is hypertonic, meaning it has a higher osmotic pressure; its water concentration is lower outside the cell then it is inside causing the cell to shrivel up. The hypothesis tested

It was born from the blood of Medusa (a lovely young maiden), when she was slain by Perseus with his magical sword. The God of earth, Poseidon was Pegasus father. Poseidon became infatuated with Medusa, he seduced her into the temple of Athena (goddess of wisdom). Because of this, Athena became infuriated and took her anger out on Medusa. She was so angry that she turned the maiden into a Gorgon, a terrifying female creature with hairs of venomous snakes and whose glance will turn a person to stone. One day, the King Polydetes fell in love with Danae, a woman who had a young son named Persues. Persues tried to protect her mother who did not want to marry the King but had little success. However, all attempts failed and the pair appeared to be invicible. However, knowing that they were unbeatable, Bellerophon became proud and wanted more power. Bellerophon wanted to become a god and tried to ride Pegasus to Mount Olympus. Zeus was not happy with this and sent a gadfly to bite Pegasus which caused him to fall to the ground. His attempt failed, and instead of becoming a god, he became blind and crippled. Pegasus, however, was honored by Zeus. The horse was given a special stable and was allowed to fetch thunderbolts and lightning for Zeus. Pegasus later found a mate, Euippe, and they had two offspring, Melanippe and Celeris. From this family came a new race of winged horse. Although Pegasus was not immortal, Zeus transformed him into a constellation on the last day where we can still see him today. Article Source:

Theories Of Grammar And Pedagogical Grammar Applying Cognitive Linguistics to Teaching Cognitive Grammar By Fereshteh Yavar. 911069948 Abstract This paper deals with the relation between cognitive linguistic theories of grammar and pedagogical grammar. 1. Introduction Cognitive Linguistics (CL) is by nature cross disciplinary and among the most obviously related fields are psychology, neurophysiology, computer science and general cognitive science. In the last 30 years, a new paradigm in linguistics, CL, has revealed that much that has been supposed different and arbitrary under the traditional aspect of language is, actually, systematic. CL supplies a combined, accessible account of how many grammatical constructions and lexical items work, and how different uses of these forms are systematically related to one another. Because CL accepts a usage based approach to language, it is aware of the contexts in which lexical items and grammatical constructions occur. For the teacher, this approach has the potential to provide rich insights into the organization of motivation for the core and extraordinary uses related with features of grammar. Cognitive English Grammar is not purposeful as an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nor have the sample descriptions been anything more than fragmentary. If we nevertheless suppose that CL concepts and descriptions are relevant for language instruction, a basic question remains to be addressed: Just who are they relevant to? The main possibilities are the student, the instructor, and those responsible for designing curricula or developing teaching materials. Assuming their validity, explicit awareness of CL notions would seem most clearly helpful for the latter. With effective materials and a sensible curriculum, an instructor with lesser awareness of CL insights can nonetheless still exploit them. And learner would hopefully benefit even if they are never exposed to Theoretical concepts or explicit

Ancient art is no exception to this especially when it comes to the ancient Greeks and the Chinese. Mixing Bowl Depicting Dueling Scene from the Trojan War and the Nine Dragons scroll, though seemingly different have a lot more in common with each other than initially visible. Chinese scroll art starts with mounting the backs of silks with paper and pasting them before creating the borders of the scroll. The whole scroll is then backed before the roller or fittings are attached. This process could take weeks or months. There are five different traditional formats that scrolls were painted in. There are two main ways that Greek pottery was decorated, red figure and black figure. Black figure is when a alkali potash or soda, which is clay with silicon content, and black ferrous oxide of iron is added to create the figures on the vessel. The opposite is true for Red figure. This is when the black was added to create all the lines, leaving the figures red. The Mixing Bowl Depicting Dueling Scenes from the Trojan War is a red figure vessel that tells two related stories on each side. She carried his body to Ethiopia, where, at her urging, Zeus granted him

They assumed that I wouldn t be able to do it because I m more reserved and introverted at times, but they forgot about my other traits that would make me a great nurse. I am very independent, caring, and straightforward. Those are great traits for nursing because I ll be able to genuinely care for my patients, but not hold back when I am informing them about their situation. My interest in nursing began after I would watch shows like Botched and Grey s Anatomy ; the whole hospital setting really intrigues me. Also, learning about sickness and diseases in my Biomedical Science class has played a big part in inspiring me to be a nurse. By the end of my senior year,
