The Great Gatsby Alternate Ending
Edmund went to respond to Goldie, but by the time his mouth opened, she d already exited the water,
and his white hot gaze was upon his brother; noting the manner in which his sibling s fingers
deliberately brushed Goldie s skin, and the looks he gave her, as she slipped back into the dress, and
he decided it best not to speak. Edmund wasn t certain he d be able to control his anger and annoyance
if he did so. That damn Walt, always interfering. The elder boy s mood wasn t assisted by the smirk
Walt threw in his direction as he grasped the young woman s elbow; the woman Edmund himself had
just recently being holding and kissing; as if to lay claim to her, or the mocking tone of his voice as he
instructed his elder to collect Goldie s belongings. As he stared, and curled his hands into fists first
under the water, the elder Bear though that his face must be brighter than the scorching orange sun of

clenched teeth. Goodbye Goldie. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Fernando Sor
Figure 1 Fernando Sor, Grand Sonata Op. 25, mvt. 1: Andante Largo
Allegro non Troppo which is the second movement follows the same form as the first movement,
ending with a tonal resolution rather than a recapitulation (Figure 2). This movement is lighter and
more graceful which emphasizes the contrast against the more heavy and serious first movement. The
main theme in Allegro non Troppo (measure 1 to 20) can be divided in antecedent and consequent
phrases. The antecedent states the basic idea, lasts four measures and ends in a half cadence. The
consequent phrase restates the basic idea, then modifies the idea eventually ending in a strong cadence
to conclude the phrase. This style of using and expanding basic ideas is very unique to the ... Show

By the time Sor became popular in London, Beethoven had published countless pieces of music,
including his Piano Sonata Op. 57 (Appassionata) as well as his 5th and 7th symphonies. Beethoven
amongst other composer during the Romantic Era used countless techniques to bring out the
romanticism in their music. From dynamics changes, to dramatic key shifts, to frequent modulations,
what is clearly apparent in the writing style of the Romantic Era is a sense of freedom. Specifically a
freedom of form whereby composers were able to add miniature sections or take away substantial
sections from pre existing forms, which would have been considered blasphemous during the
Classical Era. Like much of the romantic composers, Sor also did not adhere to pre established forms.
He ventured where no other classical guitarists before him did and did so successfully throughout his
career in London. As pointed out by the analysis presented, not one single movement of Sor s Second
Grand Sonata Op. 25 conforms to the traditional form of the sonata of the Classical Era. His Sonata
shows considerable freedom and is quite unorthodox. Sor makes good use of the dynamic range of the
guitar as well as the complexity of harmonic progressions that arose during the Romantic Era. His
melodies change to include large intervallic leaps which is very much a romantic style of melodic
writing. Sor s sonata also includes harmonics and buffed notes which adds to the drama of his pieces
and perks the audiences interest. Thus, there is a clear change in style in Sor s writing and this could
have very much been the influence of the countless romantic composers who were successful writing
for the piano and other orchestral setting. As stated by Joseph Fetis a famous music critic in Paris in
1826 Fernando Sor was considered the Beethoven of the Classical Guitar. However what earned him
this title was not his

Animal Rights Amendment
There should not be an amendment to the constitution granting animals rights. The reason I feel there
should not be any amendment is because they provide us with food, give us resources that we use
daily and we also get long lasting clothes from using their fur or flesh. But I do believe there should be
laws on how to properly kill animals we consume or use for their fur, flesh or meat.
According to the article A Change of Heart about Animals says What these researchers are finding is
that many of our fellow creatures are more like us then what we had ever imagined. They feel pain,
suffer and experience stress, affection, excitement and even love... But if the amendment were to be
passed how would we be allowed to hunt and kill to get meat. Animals such as pigs, cows, deer, and
chickens provide us with meat to feed our families and consume. We would not be able to continue
doing this because in a lot of places they believe and feel this is cruel. How would we be able to
survive without being able to consume meat? Not everyone in the world is a fan of having to
becoming vegetarians and have to cut meat out ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Autonomic Nervous System Analysis
The autonomic nervous system (ANS) is a branch of the central nervous system (CNS) that divides
into two divisions. The sympathetic (SNS), fight or flight division, and the parasympathetic (PNS),
rest and digest division both seek to regulate involuntary visceral motor control by transmitting their
signals from the CNS to cardiac muscles, the heart and blood vessels; smooth muscles, the stomach
and intestines; and glands, sweat and salivary. The SNS increases heart rate by transmitting its
impulses onto short, myelinated preganglionic neurons that trigger the release of acetylcholine (ACh)
onto nicotinic cholinergic receptors found on the postganglionic cell. The impulse then travels along
long, unmyelinated adrenergic postganglionic neurons, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Baroreflex failure syndrome is a rear cardiovascular disease that prevents afferent baroreceptor nerve
cells from monitoring and regulation blood pressure. Baroreceptors respond to high blood pressure by
increasing their firing rate, decreasing sympathetic outflow, heart rate, and contractility. This causes an
increase in parasympathetic outflow from the vagus nerve, which causes vasodilation, a decrease in
mean arterial pressure, and lowers blood pressure. Baroreceptors that are found within the carotid
sinus and aortic arch, and travel along the glossopharyngeal and vagus nerves. They send their sensory
input about blood pressure to the cardio regulatory center of the medulla oblongata, and a sympathetic
response leads norepinephrine (NE) to bind to beta adrenergic receptors on autorhythmic cells to
increase Na+ permeability through funny channels, and Ca2+ permeability through T type channels.
This triggers a faster drift, a less negative membrane potential, and increases the rate of sinoatrial (SA)
node firing, and signal conductance. The exact mechanism for initiation of the disease is still
unknown, but recent studies have hypothesized that the syndrome degrades neurons on both sides of
the solitary tract located in the medulla, and triggers cell necrosis of the glossopharyngeal and vagus
nerves. This cranial nerve damage impairs the

Canadian Pacific began as a railway, then soon became a global transportation system and eventually
evolved into a diversified industrial corporation (Murray, 2011, p.9). Individuals who were involved in

Canadian Pacific possible; William Cornelius Van Horne, a gifted railroader who guided the company

to Newport, Vermont. It connected with the Passumpsic Railroad, which acted as a bridge to other
New England railroads serving the ports of Boston and Portland. During this time, CPR had gained

Vladimir Tatlin and Naum Gabo Modern Art Essay
This paper will explore Vladimir Tatlin and Naum Gabo differences on the role of the Avant Garde
artists and how their beliefs influence the kind of work they produced. A pioneer of Russian design
Vladimir Tatlin is a representative of Russian Realism. He left home when he was fifteen and served
on the shipboard. When he became a painter, he often represented sailors in his pictures Art and
culture in Russia after Revolution was a tool for creating industrially aesthetical reality. Tatlin s

reality. Art is a combination of ideas about reality caught in motion. In such a way, it is possible to
portray both artists ideas about the role of avant garde artist. Kinetic sculpture/fountain by Naum
Gabo
Their beliefs influence the kind of work they produced because their work are both abstract but driven
different conceptually. Their work exuded formal simplicity possessing two essential characteristics:
simplicity of forms and restricted use of the color. Vladimir Tatlin, had studied with Larionov, visited
Paris in 1912. There the Cubism suggested the idea to build models in relief, and was dedicated, from
then, to carry out constructions of glass, metal and wood. Exploring the volumes in its interaction with
the space, basically they are formed by the outright intersection and lines with the ones that openings
are surrounded with the purpose to examine the possibilities of articulation of the plans between itself
and with the real space that contains them.
Toward 1913, these were completely abstract and they were going to be the base of another
movement, constructivism to which Pevsner and Gabo would later unite. The constructivists thought
that the artists should try constantly to discover and to utilize new forms, since the same life
constantly is changing and being renewed. They thought that what is important was not

Thieves see it too. Commercial moving trucks appeal to thieves for two reasons. First, stealing your

How are you going to keep your truck safe while parked on your property? Of course parking your
vehicle in a well lighted area is the first precaution. Security cameras are helpful, but may of limited
value. Consider installing a steering wheel lock such as The Club. These brightly colored anti theft
devices may deter a criminal before they break the glass or cause any damage to the truck breaking
into the cab. Another option would be to have a hidden kill switch installed by a local mechanic. A kill
switch interrupts the flow of electricity in the vehicle s ignition system so that it cannot be started.
Hidden under the dash or on under the hood, the goal is to keep the crook from finding it. Another free
option would be to pull the fuel pump relay from the fuse box under the dash. Consult your owner s
manual for the location of the fuse. In addition to your vehicle s information like year, make, model
and VIN, keep pictures of the truck from several different angles to help law enforcement spot your
truck in the event it is stolen. The second concern is how your customers can keep the truck safe while
out on rent and steps they can take to secure the truck s

Sterilization is considered an optional permanent birth control method. Although both female and
male sterilization procedures can be reversed surgically, the surgery is technically more difficult than

Around 1 million American female are sterilized either by surgery on the fallopian tubes or by

Sterilization may be achieved surgically in the postpartum phase with a small transverse infra

performed with laparoscopy, laparotomy, or colpotomy. The methods of fallopian tube sterilization

Naturalism In The Gilded Age
In 1865 through 1914, roughly the same time period that is considered the Gilded Age, two literary
movements were introduced. Realism and naturalism have similarities and they have their differences.
Both have very basic views on humanity and religion is absent from both movements. They focused
on the real world instead. Realism, though, let writers voice their opinions, concerns, struggles and
focused on literary technique. It had a faithful representation on life. Naturalism, on the other hand,
was the other literary movement happening in this time period. Naturalism started a few years later
around 1880 and lasted around 1915 like realism. Naturalism focuses on lower class, a sort of battle

Crane continues to show the scene of Maggie s apartment as she compares her lifestyle to Pete,
Turning, Maggie contemplated the dark, dust stained walls, and the scant and crude furniture of her
home...Some faint attempts she had made with blue ribbon, to freshen the appearance of a dingy
curtain, she now saw to be piteous (Crane 1017). Her problem is that she over thinks it all and
everything starts to look bad. The more she falls in love with Pete, the worse her apartment looks to
her throwing her deeper into despair. Being in a lower class more often than not, comes with poverty.
With the idea of what class, you are born into shapes what class you will continue to live in and how
you will live, Maggie and her family learned a method of scraping by. It seems to be effective enough
because they do eat, just not in the French style that included nine separate courses. When a lower
class family, like Maggie s, hosts a dinner party the guests eat a four course meal: soup fish, meat, and
dessert. Crane explains how Maggie went to a different neighborhood to beg for change in the third
chapter of his story, She received daily a small sum in pennies. It was contributed, for the most part,
by persons who did not make their homes in that vicinity (Crane 1010). Maggie would not get very far
if she begged in her neighborhood when most of her neighbors are also begging for spare

Role Of Women In Beowulf
Throughout the poem Beowulf, women can be seen as unimportant, but from Campbell s excerpt one
can see how the role of women in Beowulf is as essential as the role of men. Throughout the course of
Beowulf, many men take part in acts of protection, bravery, and sacrifice, but what many do not notice
is women take part in those same actions. Although women s acts of protection, bravery, and sacrifice
in this poem seem to be minor and not as celebrated as the men s acts, they are still critical to the well
being and overall success in the character s lives. According to Campbell, A woman s what it s all
about; the giving of birth and the giving of nourishment. She s identical with the earth goddess in her
powers, and she s got to realize that about herself. The boy does not have a happening of that kind.
From this quote one can see that women have a certain purpose, a purpose that no man can attain, and
this is something that is quite remarkable. Women may not get the same attention as men do when
they achieve something, but this is because what women do is inherent to them; it is something that is
a part of them. Men are celebrated for more things than women are in Beowulf, but the woman s role
in the poem is a behind the scenes kind of role that holds just as much importance. Campbell s
explanation of gender roles in early literature holds true in Beowulf due to the importance of the
female characters in this epic.
In Beowulf a reoccurring theme is protection; in this

Those who attended would become the leaders of AI research for decades. Many of them predicted
that a machine as intelligent as a human being would exist in no more than a generation and they were
given millions of dollars to make this vision come true. Eventually it became obvious that they had
grossly underestimated the difficulty of the project. In 1973, in response to the criticism of Sir James
Lighthill and ongoing pressure from congress, the U.S. and British Governments stopped funding
undirected research into artificial intelligence. Seven years later, a visionary initiative by the Japanese
Government inspired governments and industry to provide AI with billions of dollars, but by the late
80s the investors became disillusioned and withdrew funding again. This cycle of boom and bust, of
AI winters and summers, continues to haunt the field. Undaunted, there are those who make

reputation in the eyes of government bureaucrats and venture capitalists. Problems that had begun to
seem impossible in 1970 have been solved and the solutions are now used in successful commercial

Theme Of Organized Crime In The Great Gatsby
The Great Gatsby was taken place in the roaring 20s, even though alcohol was illegal, the wealthy
found a way to sneak it and get away with drinking and partying. The book takes place in Long Island,
New York, where there is new and old money and thats the West and East Egg. In the west egg that s
considered as new money, those people with new money is involved in organized crime, organized
crime is illegal behavior that is planned and carried out by groups of people in a very systematic
fashion. Also, there was the Mafia and they were involved with bootlegging, drug trafficking and
messing with New York s industries. New York is known for being a big and hectic city which never
sleeps. In New York there is the rich and poor, but in this book they show us how it is and feels to be
rich there during the 20s. Throughout The Great Gatsby, Fitzgerald shows us the advantages with
being rich is actually a disadvantage by how they can get away with things that are banned, how old
money and new money is earned, and how cops are blinded when they knew what s going on.

Taking a Look at Civil Engineers
The job of a civil engineer is to fix, or build many of our modern conveniences including bridges.
Skill in math (specifically measurement and angles) is required for the most part. It is a risky job
though because if you design something wrong, you will pay big. Civil engineers are a soul of a cities
construction.
Civil Engineers have many job duties because many workers depend on them. Civil engineers have a
lot of variables in their building including construction cost, and government regulations. They also
preform many tests to determine how they will build on the area, and what the structure is built with (
Civil Engineers. Career). The job requires provide or present findings, cost estimates, and submit
permits or applications. They manage many workers including Civil engineering technicians,
architects, and construction workers ( Civil Engineers. U.S.). Civil engineers have very important job
duties because if their structures fail that will not be good for them.
The work environments of a civil engineer can vary widely. Civil engineers Most of the time work
near major cities, but sometimes they work in remote or foreign areas. Offices, labs, factories and the
actual sites are work environments of many civil engineers. In offices they typically develop plans for
a survey. If the Civil engineers visit the site of the job they usually take photos and measurements
there ( Civil Engineers Encyclopedia 529). Civil engineers stay indoors mostly at their offices ( Civil

Why The British Petroleum Was Responsible For The Accident
No doubt that the Deepwater Horizon oil spill was one of the worst and the largest oil in the history of
the world. In the following essay we will discuss about the various aspects related to the accident and
find out whether if the British Petroleum was responsible for the accident.
BP or British Petroleum is the largest corporation in the United Kingdom and is an international
company that operates in oil, gas and chemical industry. The company is headquartered at London. It
owns various refineries as well as chemical plants across the globe. The company produces around
32000,000 barrels of oil daily and operates more than 25K oil service stations across the world with
total employee strength up to 85,000. (bp.com, 2015)
In Gulf of Mexico, BP had been operating the offshore drilling rig called Deepwater Horizon which it
had leased from the Transocean. During the mid of April 2010, there was explode on it as a result of
which it had collapsed. This had caused the rupture in the riser of the deep oil well where it has been
operating. It was followed by the largest ever oil spill in which around five million barrels of oils was
released in the marine environment of gulf of around seventy thousand sq. miles. The accident had
also claimed eleven on board causalities and seventeen critical injuries. More than 2 million gallons of
chemical was used to clear up the spill. This spill had resulted in heavy losses for the company both
financially and in terms of respect. The

Victor Hugo s Accomplishments
Spanning from roughly 1750 to 1837, the Romantic period was an artistic and literary movement that
sought after and treasured creativity and emotion, a drastic variation from prior periods in which logic
and reason were valued (Wilhelm 669). Sometimes considered one of the greatest ages in literature,
poets during Romanticism were greatly inspired and fascinated by nature, human passions, quests,
folk culture, the Middle Ages, physical sensations, mental states, and the innocence of children (669).
Romantic works capture whimsy and imagination through a use of the five senses: touch, sight, smell,
and sound (676). They view nature as lively and genuine and express the belief that nature is best
when left wild and untouched by man (678). Most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

descending into the cold dark pit. Contrast the warm sense of life to the cold overarching tone
exemplifying a state of death. Along with these qualities, the poem displays many other aspects in
order to conjure a feeling of death in the reader. During the beginning of the poem, Emily Dickinson
uses the word warm to create a point of reference for the remainder of the piece. By using this point of
reference Emily is able to further her language, and empower the words used later in the piece. Then
using this contrast, she is able to progress

Burn rate study on Alliant (Green dot) smokeless shotgun powder and KClO4 Shalom AJ Cohen
Philadelphia community college 11/2010 Abstract: The purpose of this project is to measure if
differing amounts of potassium perchlorate, KCIO4, mixed with shotgun powder has an effect on burn
rate. The experiment was videotaped and the duration of burn time for each amount used was
recorded. KClO4, amounts ranging from .2g to 2g, were added to 4g of shotgun powder. A steel pipe
that is ½ inch wide and 6 inch, which is welded vertically to a steel plate base was used for
confinement. Ignition occurred from the top down. The hypothesis that was accepted is that the
concentration of KClO4 will accelerate the burn rate of smokeless flake powder. ... Show more

The burn rate of the mixture was recorded with a video camera and the results recorded and timed.
The resulting footage was reviewed and the duration of the combustion noted on a tenth of a second
basis. 4 grams of Alliant Green Dot double base smokeless flake powder with no KClO4 added was
also recorded twice in the same manner, to give a baseline burn time and averaged. Raw Data Gun

4 g of Alliant, Green Dot double base smokeless powder with no KClO4 was 1.94 seconds. The burn
rate with KClO4 ranged from 1.23 to 2. 76 seconds. 4 out of 7 tests provided results where the burning
rate of the mixture were accelerated when KClO4 where added to the shotgun powder. Two tests
showed a slight decline in the burn rate. The final test using 1g showed a decline in burn rate by 0.82
seconds. The declines might have been caused by residual shotgun powder from a previous test. It
would have been desirable to repeat the 1g test in order to

I would depending on the group of students consider extending the length of this unit by a few days or

additional activities and allow more time exposed to specific concepts which would be beneficial for a
group with similar needs and abilities. Additionally, I would like to include opportunities for one on
one time between the teacher and the students, especially the ones showing the least amount of
growth. This would allow time to focus and target specific skills and preferably with less
environmental distractions, for instance working with the student in another room or hallway. Also,
during this time this group of students have not started to take homework home, I believe this would
have a positive impact on the students if they could spend about ten minutes a few times a week

My Evaluation of the Cheesecake Factory
My most favorite of all time restaurants to dine at is The Cheesecake Factory. This restaurant is a
famous corporate chain of restaurants that offers a widespread variety of all types of American dishes
and of course specializes in the most amazing variety of the best tasting cheesecakes. I love the
experience of dining at the Cheesecake factory because the atmosphere is so welcoming and the
artwork on the ceilings make you feel very lavish, the food is great and the service is excellent. A

their infamous cheesecakes after all. I ordered the Oreo Extreme which was a special edition

Lastly the service at The Cheesecake Factory caught my attention. As soon as we walked through the
door we heard, How are you? Welcome to the Cheesecake Factory . We were taken to our table by our
hostess and then we were asked a drink order. Our drinks were received and the order was taken in a
timely manner. The server was very knowledgeable of the menu and was very polite while taking our
order. We were told our order would be put right in, and the drinks with the complimentary bread
came in no time. Then the food arrived and we began to eat. As we ate our meal the server came over
twice to check on us and get us refills. We asked for our check and it was received and paid very

he says U.S. policy in Central Asia is embattled and under siege. Moscow and Beijing, as well as to a
lesser degree Tehran, view America s political and strategic presence in Central Asia with unfeigned
alarm. Indeed, Russia and China suspect America s desire for bases there. Despite Russo Chinese

Finding the Characters in The Crucible Sympathetic
Arthur Miller s The Crucible , portrays the hysteria created in a paranoid society that is pent up with
vengeance and retribution, when
the balance within a community begins to turn towards greater individual freedom . When discussing
this play we must look at the audience s awareness of the parallels between the period when the play is
set and the time when it is written. The initial audience of the
1950 s would be aware of the paranoia in Salem and the persecution of people who value their morals.
However audiences today are aware of the double paranoia created by the clear parallels between the

Then under the care of her uncle,
Parris, during her employment at the Proctor s household, she fell in love and had an affair with John
Proctor. However her love was unrequited, despite misguided impressions that John loved her. These
dire events in Abigail s life led to her manipulative, selfish yet desperate nature and this nature is what
empowered Abigail to cry witch . Miller s portrayal of Abigail endears with her language displaying
hysteria, power, love, and the harsh reality of her childhood, all of which were factors empowering her
to impel the trials. These factors are demonstrated in both the dialogue and the stage directions
accompanying them. Abigail undoubtedly displays hysterical qualities, without them her imagination
alone could not have capacitated such a dramatic ploy. This is shown particularly in Act 3. For
example her being in genuine conversation with the bird , But god made my face; you cannot want to
tear my face. The stage directions often dictate that she is transfixed , open mouthed , frightened eyes
creating the sense that she truly believes what is happening to her.
Abigail is a powerful girl, clever and even manipulative . Her part in the trials is apparently
unsympathetic due to her adopted role as the leader of the girls i.e. the witnesses. This power is
demonstrated through her authoritative short, sharp, to the point sentences when addressing the girls,
Now look you. All of you. , We danced. ,

Essay about Woolf s Vision in A Room of One s Own
Woolf s Vision in A Room of One s Own
Many years have lapsed sinee Virginia Woolf spoke at Newnham and Girton colleges on the subject of
women and fiction. Her remarkable words are preserved for future generations of women in A Room
of One s Own. This essay is the first manifesto of the modern feminist movement (Samuelson), and
has been called a notable preamble to a kind of feminine Declaration of Independence (Muller 34).
Woolf writes that her modest goal for this ground breaking essay is to encourage the young women
they seem to get fearfully depressed (qtd. in Gordon xiv). This treatise on the history of women s

She preserves this intimacy in the written essay as well. Woolf s nephew and biographer, Quentin Bell,
writes that in A Room of One s Own one hears Virginia speaking . . . . she gets very close to her
conversational style (144). Rather than submit her audience to the usual dictation of the expert to the
ignorant (Marcus, Virginia 145), Woolf involves her audience in her quest for answers. She advises
them that she plans to make use of all the liberties and licenses of a novelist, that her fiction is likely
to contain more truth than fact, and that they must seek out this truth and . . . decide whether any part
of it is worth keeping (4 5). She does not disclose the truth as she sees it ; rather, she requires the
audience to participate in the drama of asking questions and searching for Woolf s creative departure
from established lecture style delightfully foreshadows her intent to generate entirely new feminine
traditions and searching for answers (Marcus, Virginia 145).
Woolf encourages women to personally participate and identify with her ideas. She creates a fictitious
narrator through which she chronicles her thoughts and discoveries as she researches the topic of
women and fiction, I is only a convenient term for somebody who has no real being . . . call me Mary
Beton, Mary Seton, Mary Carmichael or by any name you please it is not a matter of any importance

The Lighthouse By Virginia Woolf
The purpose of a lighthouse is to serve as a navigational aid to shores or ports and to warn boats of
dangerous areas. To the Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf is a novel that teaches how one person can
affect the lives of people around them by, in a sense, shining a light on the person s specific traits. In
the novel, Mrs. Ramsay is one of the main characters that unfortunately does not make it to the end of
the story, but her presence is shadowed throughout the novel where she is not there physically.
Virginia Woolf used the lighthouse as analogy for Mrs. Ramsay s existence in the first part of the book
and after her death during the third section of the book. Mrs. Ramsay s death allows the reader to
realize that she is the lighthouse that highlights and unifies her family and all the guests during the
time spent together at the Ramsay s summer home. Though Mrs. Ramsay was the conjoining light that
brought people together, Woolf decides to kill Mrs. Ramsay in part two of the novel. During the
moments of Mrs. Ramsay lighting, Woolf incorporates dark thoughts that expresses a different side to
the novel. Bitter and black, half way down, in the darkness, in the shaft which ran from the sunlight to
the depths, perhaps a tear formed; a tear fell... (p.32). Woolf is reflecting on her perception of death
and how she dealt with the thoughts of killing herself. As for Woolf s own death, she left her house
leaving behind a note to Vanessa Bell, her sister, and a note to Leonard Woolf,

the people to consume. Consequently, in order for the Mayans to manage the increasing population,
the Mayans turned to use their accessible land over to cultivation. (Drew 139) With this in mind, the
author, David Drew, asked an intrigued question of how much food the land could produced for the

Given that, the Mayan regions displayed a different variety of soil fertility and localized weather
patterns that affected the circumstances for agriculture to many different portions of areas around the

to cut down the time of fallow for their fields which eventually be in high risk strategy in resulting in a

Autobiography Of A Face And Pleasantville Essay
The discovery of oneself is a very prominent theme throughout the stories of Pleasantville and

about facing difficulty and challenge to see what lies ahead on the other side of the wall we call

The International Trade Agreement With Costa Rica,...
Introduction On August 2004, the United States signed the Central America Free Trade Agreement
with Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and the Dominican Republic. CAFTA
is the first free trade agreement of its kind given that it is between the United States and smaller
developing countries. The agreement encourages economic cooperation among these nations resulting
in a stronger regional integration and contributing to greater stability. Beginning with a brief overview
about the history of CAFTA, in this paper I will discuss the main issues being debated on CAFTA and
analyze the effect it will have on US industries, specifically on sugar, textiles, and agriculture, as well
as the benefits to the Central American countries involved in the agreement. CAFTA Historically, the
United States has established free trade agreements with each of the countries in the agreement. These
agreements, as well as CAFTA, are currently active. The US government policy had originally granted
these countries relative open access to US markets, as well as protection of their own markets with the
use of tariffs and other trade barriers. These were implemented specifically to restrict US access to
their markets. Then, CAFTA changed the trend by eliminating tariffs, opening markets, reducing
barriers to goods and services, and promoting transparency through regulatory practices, while
supporting environmental protections (7). Moreover, it promotes investment between these

Myths, Morals, And Rules
Life is a series of life lessons, morals, and rules that we all live by and learn through every decision
we make. A way these lessons, morals, and rules are shown and told is through myths. A myth is a
traditional story from a certain ethnic, religion, place, or culture, and explains how and why things are
the way they are. Myths also incorporate a moral, theme, or life lesson, which becomes clear at the
end of the story. As a child I m sure you ve heard stories from your family whether a more unknown

something you already knew that simply got reinforced. But if you re like me, then it ll take some time

Also, my grandpa and Aunty Paning lived in Ilocos Norte, while my grandma lived in Manila, they
were 407.64km, 253.31mi apart and they were still told the same myths, with the exception of a few
details. Furthermore, another person who has heard this myth from past generations is Sonia Jackson,
who was a senior at Tennessee University in 2008. Sonia Jacksons grandmother Dr. Natividad
Corrales Taboada told her daughter, Maria Jackson, Sonia s mother, who then told Sonia and her
siblings the story. There is also a controversy of whether the myth was created before or after the
Spanish invasion, but it s difficult to know for sure. As you can see this myth is probably very old, to
have gone through at least eighty two years, it could easily have existed for a century.
Usually, Filipino myths are passed down through words spoken and are grouped into four main
groups. The first are myths that explain the creation of the universe, god (Bathala or Maykapal), the
origin of man, supernatural beings and the native Filipino heroes. Second, are legends that tell the
origin of a local phenomenon, places, plants, animals, thoughts, and names. Third, are fables where
animals or inanimate beings are made to speak and act like rational beings to point out morals, this is
the group the myth falls into, but also has aspects from the second group because

  • 2. The Great Gatsby Alternate Ending Edmund went to respond to Goldie, but by the time his mouth opened, she d already exited the water, and his white hot gaze was upon his brother; noting the manner in which his sibling s fingers deliberately brushed Goldie s skin, and the looks he gave her, as she slipped back into the dress, and he decided it best not to speak. Edmund wasn t certain he d be able to control his anger and annoyance if he did so. That damn Walt, always interfering. The elder boy s mood wasn t assisted by the smirk Walt threw in his direction as he grasped the young woman s elbow; the woman Edmund himself had just recently being holding and kissing; as if to lay claim to her, or the mocking tone of his voice as he instructed his elder to collect Goldie s belongings. As he stared, and curled his hands into fists first under the water, the elder Bear though that his face must be brighter than the scorching orange sun of that noon and his words, when he finally mustered the composure to speak, were uttered through clenched teeth. Goodbye Goldie. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Possibly, tomorrow, you help me with my chores, and we can bathe in the stream. I know of one which lays under a waterfall. • 3. Fernando Sor Figure 1 Fernando Sor, Grand Sonata Op. 25, mvt. 1: Andante Largo Allegro non Troppo which is the second movement follows the same form as the first movement, ending with a tonal resolution rather than a recapitulation (Figure 2). This movement is lighter and more graceful which emphasizes the contrast against the more heavy and serious first movement. The main theme in Allegro non Troppo (measure 1 to 20) can be divided in antecedent and consequent phrases. The antecedent states the basic idea, lasts four measures and ends in a half cadence. The consequent phrase restates the basic idea, then modifies the idea eventually ending in a strong cadence to conclude the phrase. This style of using and expanding basic ideas is very unique to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By the time Sor became popular in London, Beethoven had published countless pieces of music, including his Piano Sonata Op. 57 (Appassionata) as well as his 5th and 7th symphonies. Beethoven amongst other composer during the Romantic Era used countless techniques to bring out the romanticism in their music. From dynamics changes, to dramatic key shifts, to frequent modulations, what is clearly apparent in the writing style of the Romantic Era is a sense of freedom. Specifically a freedom of form whereby composers were able to add miniature sections or take away substantial sections from pre existing forms, which would have been considered blasphemous during the Classical Era. Like much of the romantic composers, Sor also did not adhere to pre established forms. He ventured where no other classical guitarists before him did and did so successfully throughout his career in London. As pointed out by the analysis presented, not one single movement of Sor s Second Grand Sonata Op. 25 conforms to the traditional form of the sonata of the Classical Era. His Sonata shows considerable freedom and is quite unorthodox. Sor makes good use of the dynamic range of the guitar as well as the complexity of harmonic progressions that arose during the Romantic Era. His melodies change to include large intervallic leaps which is very much a romantic style of melodic writing. Sor s sonata also includes harmonics and buffed notes which adds to the drama of his pieces and perks the audiences interest. Thus, there is a clear change in style in Sor s writing and this could have very much been the influence of the countless romantic composers who were successful writing for the piano and other orchestral setting. As stated by Joseph Fetis a famous music critic in Paris in 1826 Fernando Sor was considered the Beethoven of the Classical Guitar. However what earned him this title was not his ... • 4. Animal Rights Amendment There should not be an amendment to the constitution granting animals rights. The reason I feel there should not be any amendment is because they provide us with food, give us resources that we use daily and we also get long lasting clothes from using their fur or flesh. But I do believe there should be laws on how to properly kill animals we consume or use for their fur, flesh or meat. According to the article A Change of Heart about Animals says What these researchers are finding is that many of our fellow creatures are more like us then what we had ever imagined. They feel pain, suffer and experience stress, affection, excitement and even love... But if the amendment were to be passed how would we be allowed to hunt and kill to get meat. Animals such as pigs, cows, deer, and chickens provide us with meat to feed our families and consume. We would not be able to continue doing this because in a lot of places they believe and feel this is cruel. How would we be able to survive without being able to consume meat? Not everyone in the world is a fan of having to becoming vegetarians and have to cut meat out ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 5. Autonomic Nervous System Analysis The autonomic nervous system (ANS) is a branch of the central nervous system (CNS) that divides into two divisions. The sympathetic (SNS), fight or flight division, and the parasympathetic (PNS), rest and digest division both seek to regulate involuntary visceral motor control by transmitting their signals from the CNS to cardiac muscles, the heart and blood vessels; smooth muscles, the stomach and intestines; and glands, sweat and salivary. The SNS increases heart rate by transmitting its impulses onto short, myelinated preganglionic neurons that trigger the release of acetylcholine (ACh) onto nicotinic cholinergic receptors found on the postganglionic cell. The impulse then travels along long, unmyelinated adrenergic postganglionic neurons, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Baroreflex failure syndrome is a rear cardiovascular disease that prevents afferent baroreceptor nerve cells from monitoring and regulation blood pressure. Baroreceptors respond to high blood pressure by increasing their firing rate, decreasing sympathetic outflow, heart rate, and contractility. This causes an increase in parasympathetic outflow from the vagus nerve, which causes vasodilation, a decrease in mean arterial pressure, and lowers blood pressure. Baroreceptors that are found within the carotid sinus and aortic arch, and travel along the glossopharyngeal and vagus nerves. They send their sensory input about blood pressure to the cardio regulatory center of the medulla oblongata, and a sympathetic response leads norepinephrine (NE) to bind to beta adrenergic receptors on autorhythmic cells to increase Na+ permeability through funny channels, and Ca2+ permeability through T type channels. This triggers a faster drift, a less negative membrane potential, and increases the rate of sinoatrial (SA) node firing, and signal conductance. The exact mechanism for initiation of the disease is still unknown, but recent studies have hypothesized that the syndrome degrades neurons on both sides of the solitary tract located in the medulla, and triggers cell necrosis of the glossopharyngeal and vagus nerves. This cranial nerve damage impairs the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Canadian Pacific Case Study Canadian Pacific began as a railway, then soon became a global transportation system and eventually evolved into a diversified industrial corporation (Murray, 2011, p.9). Individuals who were involved in this company were, George Stephen and Donald Smith, cousins from Scotland whose vision made Canadian Pacific possible; William Cornelius Van Horne, a gifted railroader who guided the company through its perilous years of construction and early operation. It connected with the Passumpsic Railroad, which acted as a bridge to other New England railroads serving the ports of Boston and Portland. Vladimir Tatlin and Naum Gabo Modern Art Essay This paper will explore Vladimir Tatlin and Naum Gabo differences on the role of the Avant Garde artists and how their beliefs influence the kind of work they produced. A pioneer of Russian design Vladimir Tatlin is a representative of Russian Realism. He left home when he was fifteen and served on the shipboard. When he became a painter, he often represented sailors in his pictures Art and culture in Russia after Revolution was a tool for creating industrially aesthetical reality. Kinetic sculpture/fountain by Naum Gabo Their beliefs influence the kind of work they produced because their work are both abstract but driven different conceptually. Their work exuded formal simplicity possessing two essential characteristics: simplicity of forms and restricted use of the color. Vladimir Tatlin, had studied with Larionov, visited Paris in 1912. There the Cubism suggested the idea to build models in relief, and was dedicated, from then, to carry out constructions of glass, metal and wood. Exploring the volumes in its interaction with the space, basically they are formed by the outright intersection and lines with the ones that openings are surrounded with the purpose to examine the possibilities of articulation of the plans between itself and with the real space that contains them. Toward 1913, these were completely abstract and they were going to be the base of another movement, constructivism to which Pevsner and Gabo would later unite. The constructivists thought that the artists should try constantly to discover and to utilize new forms, since the same life constantly is changing and being renewed. Of course parking your vehicle in a well lighted area is the first precaution. Security cameras are helpful, but may of limited value. Consider installing a steering wheel lock such as The Club. These brightly colored anti theft devices may deter a criminal before they break the glass or cause any damage to the truck breaking into the cab. Another option would be to have a hidden kill switch installed by a local mechanic. A kill switch interrupts the flow of electricity in the vehicle s ignition system so that it cannot be started. Hidden under the dash or on under the hood, the goal is to keep the crook from finding it. Another free option would be to pull the fuel pump relay from the fuse box under the dash. Consult your owner s manual for the location of the fuse. In addition to your vehicle s information like year, make, model and VIN, keep pictures of the truck from several different angles to help law enforcement spot your truck in the event it is stolen. Realism and naturalism have similarities and they have their differences. Both have very basic views on humanity and religion is absent from both movements. They focused on the real world instead. Realism, though, let writers voice their opinions, concerns, struggles and focused on literary technique. It had a faithful representation on life. Naturalism, on the other hand, was the other literary movement happening in this time period. Naturalism started a few years later around 1880 and lasted around 1915 like realism. Her problem is that she over thinks it all and everything starts to look bad. The more she falls in love with Pete, the worse her apartment looks to her throwing her deeper into despair. Being in a lower class more often than not, comes with poverty. With the idea of what class, you are born into shapes what class you will continue to live in and how you will live, Maggie and her family learned a method of scraping by. It seems to be effective enough because they do eat, just not in the French style that included nine separate courses. When a lower class family, like Maggie s, hosts a dinner party the guests eat a four course meal: soup fish, meat, and dessert. Crane explains how Maggie went to a different neighborhood to beg for change in the third chapter of his story, She received daily a small sum in pennies. • 11. Role Of Women In Beowulf Throughout the poem Beowulf, women can be seen as unimportant, but from Campbell s excerpt one can see how the role of women in Beowulf is as essential as the role of men. Throughout the course of Beowulf, many men take part in acts of protection, bravery, and sacrifice, but what many do not notice is women take part in those same actions. Although women s acts of protection, bravery, and sacrifice in this poem seem to be minor and not as celebrated as the men s acts, they are still critical to the well being and overall success in the character s lives. According to Campbell, A woman s what it s all about; the giving of birth and the giving of nourishment. She s identical with the earth goddess in her powers, and she s got to realize that about herself. The boy does not have a happening of that kind. From this quote one can see that women have a certain purpose, a purpose that no man can attain, and this is something that is quite remarkable. Women may not get the same attention as men do when they achieve something, but this is because what women do is inherent to them; it is something that is a part of them. Men are celebrated for more things than women are in Beowulf, but the woman s role in the poem is a behind the scenes kind of role that holds just as much importance. Campbell s explanation of gender roles in early literature holds true in Beowulf due to the importance of the female characters in this epic. In Beowulf a reoccurring theme is protection; in this ... In 1973, in response to the criticism of Sir James Lighthill and ongoing pressure from congress, the U.S. and British Governments stopped funding undirected research into artificial intelligence. Seven years later, a visionary initiative by the Japanese Government inspired governments and industry to provide AI with billions of dollars, but by the late 80s the investors became disillusioned and withdrew funding again. Essay about Woolf s Vision in A Room of One s Own Woolf s Vision in A Room of One s Own Many years have lapsed sinee Virginia Woolf spoke at Newnham and Girton colleges on the subject of women and fiction. Her remarkable words are preserved for future generations of women in A Room of One s Own. This essay is the first manifesto of the modern feminist movement (Samuelson), and has been called a notable preamble to a kind of feminine Declaration of Independence (Muller 34). Woolf writes that her modest goal for this ground breaking essay is to encourage the young women they seem to get fearfully depressed (qtd. in Gordon xiv). She preserves this intimacy in the written essay as well. Woolf s nephew and biographer, Quentin Bell, writes that in A Room of One s Own one hears Virginia speaking . . . . she gets very close to her conversational style (144). Rather than submit her audience to the usual dictation of the expert to the ignorant (Marcus, Virginia 145), Woolf involves her audience in her quest for answers. She advises them that she plans to make use of all the liberties and licenses of a novelist, that her fiction is likely to contain more truth than fact, and that they must seek out this truth and . . . decide whether any part of it is worth keeping (4 5). She does not disclose the truth as she sees it ; rather, she requires the audience to participate in the drama of asking questions and searching for Woolf s creative departure from established lecture style delightfully foreshadows her intent to generate entirely new feminine traditions and searching for answers (Marcus, Virginia 145). Woolf encourages women to personally participate and identify with her ideas. She creates a fictitious narrator through which she chronicles her thoughts and discoveries as she researches the topic of women and fiction, I is only a convenient term for somebody who has no real being . . . call me Mary Beton, Mary Seton, Mary Carmichael or by any name you please it is not a matter of any importance (4 5). • 29. The Lighthouse By Virginia Woolf The purpose of a lighthouse is to serve as a navigational aid to shores or ports and to warn boats of dangerous areas. To the Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf is a novel that teaches how one person can affect the lives of people around them by, in a sense, shining a light on the person s specific traits. In the novel, Mrs. Ramsay is one of the main characters that unfortunately does not make it to the end of the story, but her presence is shadowed throughout the novel where she is not there physically. Virginia Woolf used the lighthouse as analogy for Mrs. Ramsay s existence in the first part of the book and after her death during the third section of the book. Mrs. Ramsay s death allows the reader to realize that she is the lighthouse that highlights and unifies her family and all the guests during the time spent together at the Ramsay s summer home. Though Mrs. Ramsay was the conjoining light that brought people together, Woolf decides to kill Mrs. Ramsay in part two of the novel. During the moments of Mrs. Ramsay lighting, Woolf incorporates dark thoughts that expresses a different side to the novel. Bitter and black, half way down, in the darkness, in the shaft which ran from the sunlight to the depths, perhaps a tear formed; a tear fell... (p.32). Woolf is reflecting on her perception of death and how she dealt with the thoughts of killing herself. As for Woolf s own death, she left her house leaving behind a note to Vanessa Bell, her sister, and a note to Leonard Woolf, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I will work to change the negative dialogue that surrounds these schools to a positive one, so that the individuals who are guiding these children through the school system will not continue to lower their expectations of these students and negatively impact their educational experience. I will do this by only focusing on the student s strengths when conversing with teachers and principals. Thirdly, I would advocate for schools to make it a part of their curriculum to allow students to explore their heritages in the hopes of helping students create positive ethnic identities, which has been linked to positive outcomes for ... • 34. The International Trade Agreement With Costa Rica,... Introduction On August 2004, the United States signed the Central America Free Trade Agreement with Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and the Dominican Republic. CAFTA is the first free trade agreement of its kind given that it is between the United States and smaller developing countries. The agreement encourages economic cooperation among these nations resulting in a stronger regional integration and contributing to greater stability. Beginning with a brief overview about the history of CAFTA, in this paper I will discuss the main issues being debated on CAFTA and analyze the effect it will have on US industries, specifically on sugar, textiles, and agriculture, as well as the benefits to the Central American countries involved in the agreement. CAFTA Historically, the United States has established free trade agreements with each of the countries in the agreement. These agreements, as well as CAFTA, are currently active. The US government policy had originally granted these countries relative open access to US markets, as well as protection of their own markets with the use of tariffs and other trade barriers. These were implemented specifically to restrict US access to their markets. Then, CAFTA changed the trend by eliminating tariffs, opening markets, reducing barriers to goods and services, and promoting transparency through regulatory practices, while supporting environmental protections (7). Moreover, it promotes investment between these ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Myths, Morals, And Rules Life is a series of life lessons, morals, and rules that we all live by and learn through every decision we make. A way these lessons, morals, and rules are shown and told is through myths. A myth is a traditional story from a certain ethnic, religion, place, or culture, and explains how and why things are the way they are. Myths also incorporate a moral, theme, or life lesson, which becomes clear at the end of the story. As a child I m sure you ve heard stories from your family whether a more unknown myth or common tale that you got something out of, whether it was learning something new, or something you already knew that simply got reinforced. Also, my grandpa and Aunty Paning lived in Ilocos Norte, while my grandma lived in Manila, they were 407.64km, 253.31mi apart and they were still told the same myths, with the exception of a few details. Furthermore, another person who has heard this myth from past generations is Sonia Jackson, who was a senior at Tennessee University in 2008. Sonia Jacksons grandmother Dr. Natividad Corrales Taboada told her daughter, Maria Jackson, Sonia s mother, who then told Sonia and her siblings the story. There is also a controversy of whether the myth was created before or after the Spanish invasion, but it s difficult to know for sure. As you can see this myth is probably very old, to have gone through at least eighty two years, it could easily have existed for a century. Usually, Filipino myths are passed down through words spoken and are grouped into four main groups. The first are myths that explain the creation of the universe, god (Bathala or Maykapal), the origin of man, supernatural beings and the native Filipino heroes. Second, are legends that tell the origin of a local phenomenon, places, plants, animals, thoughts, and names. Third, are fables where animals or inanimate beings are made to speak and act like rational beings to point out morals, this is the group the myth falls into, but also has aspects from the second group because ...
