President Franklin Delano Roosevelt And The National Labor...
In 1776, this great nation, the United States of America was created by Congress through its hopes of
an independent nation. In the last two hundred plus years, we have accumulated forty four presidents.
Our longest serving president was Franklin Delano Roosevelt. He a served a consecutive three terms
and was re elected for a fourth term but sadly he died two months in(A E). FDR was a dominant leader
in the democratic party and had lead the country through economic depression and all out war. In the
twelves years he had served he had created many important legislations, such as the Securities
Exchange Act and the National Labor Relations Act(A E).
FDR was inaugurated for his first term on March 4, 1933. At this time, the U.S was at its ... Show

The most popular of the New Deal agencies was the Civilian Conservation Corp(Home), this hired
250,000 unemployed men to work on local rural projects(A E). Congress also produced mortgage
relief for millions of farmer and homeowners around the same time. FDR made agricultural relief a
top priority and created the Agricultural Adjustment Administration(A E), forcing higher prices for
items by paying these farmer to take land out of crops and to cut herds.
In 1933 the National Industrial Recovery Act was created in order to reform the economy. It forced
industries to establish rules of operations for all firms within specific industries(Gilder), minimum
prices, agreements not to compete, and production restrictions. These industries also needed to raise
wages. Provisions inspired unions and suspended anti trust laws. The same year major new banking
regulations were passed and in 1934(A E), the Securities and Exchange Commission was instituted to
control Wall Street(Home).
Roosevelt pursued recovery through federal spending, the NIRA spent $3.3 billion on the Public
Works Administration to stimulate the economy(A E). He also worked with Republican senator
George Norris to create the biggest government owned industrial enterprise in American history, the
Tennessee Valley Authority(Gilder). The TVA built dams and power stations, kept floods under
control, and modernized agriculture and homes in the poverty engulfed Tennessee

The I Don t Like You
CHAPTER 1 He wondered what had gotten into him. It had been mad to defy Lord William like that.
He felt lucky to be alive. (29) The Id will be very influential in the future CHAPTER 2 142 It has a
deceitful feeling.. Philip is hesitant to run for prior because he feels that Milius tactics are immoral

Jonathan illustrate his subconscious worry and guilt about his son CHAPTER 3 173 You want to know
why I don t like you? All right, I ll tell you. I don t like you because you have no refinement. I don t
like you because you can hardly read. I don t like you because you re only interested in your dogs and
your horses and your self (Follett 173). Aliena has a strong personality and speaks her mind. Although
she seems confrontational (id), she also seems in control of what she says. This shows her emotional
balance, in comparison to William s imbalance. CHAPTER 4 231 I m not going to do it, he thought.
Tom would be so happy if the cathedral burned down. Jack s superego cares for his mom, and

Predicting or Generating Expectations
Currently while reading, it is safe to say the main protagonist of the novel is trying to escape his past
life by leaving behind everything he s known for a new adventure featuring new people. Already he
has tried to fit in by being something he is not. It is evident through his speech versus his thoughts.
Short term events could consist of him changing who he is to fit into the current way of life he has
walked into. Long term events could consist of the adventure he has with the new people he has met.
He begins to fall for a taken girl amongst it all, but never voices his feelings for her. In the future the
most important events could involve the girl and the lessons he learns along the way based on what is
right compared to what is wrong.
Puzzles
Some questions I have been asking myself along the way have been, What is the Great Perhaps of the
characters in the story? , all of the important events take place on Culver Creek Campus, why is this? .
Another thing I have been thinking of is that John Green keeps the entire novel in the main character,
Miles point of view. Why is this? Why have no other characters been given the ability to share their
perspective on the important events happening as the story progresses?
Filling the Gaps
Everything Miles is going to go through in this book is for a reason. This book is very similar to real
life in a sense that Miles is a typical teenager and wants

Biomes Of South Afric The Human Influences On Biomes And...
This pie chart is proof that almost a quarter of the flora in South Africa falls into the category of
threatened or of conservation concern . This project s main aim is to investigate the different biomes in
South Africa, the human influences on biomes and the meaning of biodiversity.
Question 1:
The biodiversity of a biome refers to the variety of living organisms, like plants, animals, fungi etc.,
found in this particular biome.
Question 2:
I live in Gauteng, South Africa which is classified as the grassland biome. Plants found in the
grassland biome are also adapted to survive fire as grasslands often burn.
Figure 2: sample of the grassland biome.
Task 1:
We as a group have chosen the savanna (terrestrial) and the wetland (aquatic) biomes of South Africa
to investigate:
Savannas
1.1) The Savannas are found around the northern parts and Lowvelds of Southern Africa, in the
provinces: Mpumalanga, Limpopo, the North West province and parts of the Northern Cape, Gauteng,
Kwazulu Natal and the Eastern Cape. The largest biome that makes up 46% of South Africa is the
savanna biome.
1.2) Savannas are split into two layers: the upper layer which is called the shrubveld and the lower
layer called the woolands , or more commonly known as the bushveld . Savannas are generally warm
and humid in the rainy seasons but cool down during the dry seasons (for more than seven months a
year).Savannas have a wetdry climate and

Wal Mart And Its Effect On Society
What if a dream never amounted to anything more than a dream? What would be the point of
dreaming that dream? Wal Mart makes dreams for many locally owned businesses nothing but a lie.
Wal Mart, like many monopolies use their enormous power to influence, and take advantage of society
in whatever way they see fit. The American Society has adopted subjective vision, either because they
care not to look further than the inexpensiveness of their product or the owner are blinded by their
profits. Wal Mart takes advantage of a system by exploiting cheap labor and poor working conditions.
The same company that advises these poor standards receive large quantities of subsidies from The
American Government. Some people would claim that this is ... Show more content on

When people are placed into a group and these people have to deal with some situation, the group as a
whole typically has some overriding attitude toward the situation (). Wal Mart focus on the individual
to separate them from a group. Once they are separate the loss of their job or pay cuts take a bigger
toll on the individual. Also Wal Mart may play individuals against each other to create self doubt. In
the documentary it showed how Wal Mart would play individuals against each other by ignoring
actions such as racism towards those who defied the system. By focusing on the individual, Wal Mart
is able to increase their profits through creating the inequity of power. Wal Mart uses its power to
influence other institutions in a way that benefits them. The main institution that Wal Mart is
concerned with is economics. Realizing this Wal Mart uses their power to influence other institutions
to their will. Part of that is through advertisements and the other is through funding government
campaigns. Wal Mart s advertisements are made to bring pride to small communities about the way
that Wal Mart benefits their community. So the people who watch the Wal Mart advertisement think
that Wal Mart is doing their city a favor. As stated in The High Cost of Low price Wal Mart received 1
billion dollars in total subsidies last year (). Subsidies which are not needed when Wal Mart is own by

The Battle Of Israel Argumentative Essay
OBEDEDOM THE GITTITE
Now Israel went out to war against the Philistines, and Israel was defeated and 4,000 Israelite soldiers
were smitten by the Philistines in the battlefield. The children of Israel thought they should bring the
ark of the covenant to the battlefield, so they can defeat their enemies. However, when they brought
the Ark of the Lord that the Philistines slaughtered 30,000 more Israelites soldiers and took the Ark of
the Lord from them (1 Samuel 4:1 10). The Philistine brought the ark of God to Ebenezer to the city of
Ashdod, into the house of Dagon and set it beside Dagon their idol. God destroyed their idol and the
Lord caused very deadly destruction among the people of Ashdod including the people living in its

they Lord caused exceedingly great panic among them by sending a plague to afflict the people of the

Finally, after the ark was in the land of the Philistine for seven months, the lords of the Philistine
decided to return the ark to the Lord back to the people of Israel because it was killing them more than
war itself (1 Samuel 5:1 12; 6:1, 21). When the Philistine called for the people of Israel to have the ark
of the Lord back to them, David gathered together 30,000 chosen men of Israel, and went to the land
of the Philistine to bring the ark back to Israel. When they came to the threshing floor of Nacon,
Uzzah who was one of the men who drove the ark put out his hand to the ark, and touched it that the
ark shook and the anger of the Lord came upon him that He smote him for touching the ark, and he

Taiping Rebellion Research Paper
December of 1850 to 1864 gave us an event that has been lost in time, yet this extraordinary event
took the lives of over 20,000,000 Chinese people, more casualties than any other world event except
WWII. This event was called the Taiping Rebellion, it was started by Hong Xiuquan an educated man
in the southern province of Guangxi, in a time when China was a weak point after the end of the first
Opium War. During this time of uncertainty the Qing Dynasty was on the edge of collapsing, six
decades before it actually did fall. Many events attributed the start, continuation and end of this so
called civil war.
The Taiping Rebellion came at a time when China was at a low point. As Dr. Stephen R. Platt, author

Xiuquan who failed the imperial civil service exam four times was the founder of the Taiping

dreams included God speaking to him and telling him to get rid of the demon devils. There was also

Cell Group Meetings
I have considered the proposition of allowing the mom s of high school student s who attend the
student meetings to count these toward their required meetings for year. Although I commend Cheri
and these ladies on their dedication to this monthly event I question the validity of this taking the
place of a meeting and I would bring to mind that other groups could use the same points given to
justify their attendances also. Would this ultimately affect cell group attendance? In my opinion yes. Is
change in this direction okay is the question I would pose.
Ultimately at the root is the defining of what cell groups are for in 2017. Statues that were put in place

It takes very little to accomplish this Camp Grace Family Day counts as well as End of Year outing,

mother who actually takes a moment to review this would realize the whole question of counting a
high school student meeting is a bit of a mute point. More important is the can of worms this would
potentially open. If high school student meetings count, then what about elementary play dates or
middle school outings? How about field trips? Or what about the families that do co op groups? Or
have children involved in dance or theater groups with others in our home school group that have
inspired them in their home school journey? This list could continue on and on some very valid and
some almost comical, but in it s essence we come back to how a cell group for MRCS should function
in today s society. If we are here to encourage, stand alongside, and challenge each other we should
then accept that as more experience mothers of high schoolers we should be eager to get together with
our cell group and look to see who is there looking to connect with someone that could show them
insights on the journey of home

The Driving Down The Road
There are millions and millions of cars on the road these days. With every car on the road there is a
driver operating the vehicle. Every single driver has habits that they acquired throughout the years of
driving. Some don t use blinkers, others tend to go over the speed limit, and others don t wear
seatbelts. Majority of those drivers can fall into one of the following categories: the carefree reckless
driver, the overly cautious driver, and the normal driver which is the most preferred. We have all seen
it, you are driving down the road and then out of nowhere a car comes flying past you in the other
lane. That is a prime example of what we consider a carefree and reckless driver. You see, a carefree
and reckless driver is one that cares about nobody but themselves when driving. They are the people
that you see going fifteen to twenty miles per hour over the speed limit with no signs of slowing
down. Sure they might have an excuse of I was late for work or a family emergency came up but in
general you are still a reckless driver and carefree. I think we all can relate when I say that we see
enough of these drivers on the daily. But what other traits do carefree and reckless drivers exhibit?
One big trait is that they are always switching back and forth between lanes of traffic. They become so
impatient that they feel the need to constantly switch back and forth between lanes so they are one car
closer to being at their destination. Another one of the dominant traits

The Union Of The European Union
Brexiters are desperate and angry with everything and everyone that suggests that the British people
should vote to remain in the European Union in the 23 June 2016 referendum. The recent victim of
their desperation and ire has been no less a personage than the US President Barrack Obama himself.
President Obama was in London recently to wish the Queen her happy 90th birthday and help Prime
Minister David Cameron win the referendum in which the British people will vote whether they want
to remain in the EU or leave. The Leave campaigners have sought to create a bubble that Britain
outside the EU will be a prosperous paradise at the center of the universe, free from pesky European
countries. But Obama punctured their bubble by announcing that Britain outside the EU will be less
powerful, less secure, and less prosperous, and it will have to wait for five to 10 years to sign a trade
agreement with the United States. That was shattering for the Leave campaign. Boris Johnson, the
leader of the Leave campaign and mayor of London, was so angry that he descended into the
invective. He said President Obama had anti colonial mindset obtained from his Kenyan father.
Although the reference was made to the removal of British Prime Minister Churchill s from the Oval
Office, the mayor was angry because of his intervention on behalf of the Remain campaign. The anger
has been on the rise, especially after the latest opinion polls have given a slight edge to the Remain
campaign over

How Did Zollverein Contribute To The Unification Of Germany
German nationalism was a crucial part of the country s unification that developed over time. Germany
s nationalism began during the Napoleonic Wars of 1799 to 1815. France s leader at the time,
Napoleon, lead in the invasion of German territory. This destruction prompted Germany s bourgeoisie
to want a modern German nation state with its own cultural identity. The state would ideally be built
on liberal democracy, constitutionalism, representation, and popular sovereignty. The Treaty of Vienna
was created after the Napoleonic Wars in attempt to establish a German nation state. Instead, a
collection of German states that lacked strong federal institutions joined together under Prussian rule.
This was known as a Customs Union, or Zollverein. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tensions between the two states developed with the rise of Otto von Bismarck, a political figure of
Germany, to power. In 1848, an all German parliament in Frankfurt was created. The goal of this
parliament was to make a constitution for all German states. The series of liberal revolutions that had
occurred over time reached a climax when people rebelled against the parliament, mainly because of
Prussia and Austria s rivalry. This caused supporters of the parliament to advocate a small German
nation state with Austria excluded (Gale). As this revolution took place, Bismarck was persuaded to
reenter the government in order to protect the monarchy. Bismarck attended the Frankfurt Parliament
and made his traditionalist opinions known through speeches. Bismarck was then appointed envoy to
the Bundestag in 1851, which is when he began to gain power (Otto Gale). As can be seen, a
parliament was created as an attempt to unify all German states, but tensions between Prussia and
Austria caused a rebellion against the constitution. In an attempt to end the rebellion, some of the
promoters of the parliament opened up the idea of a unified Germany without Austria to the Prussian

Finding False Memories Of The Mall
Texperiences.
Some people might argue that getting lost in the mall is too common of an experience to demonstrate
false memories. For this argument, Hyman et al. constructed an experiment to show the occurrence of
false memories in less that common childhood events including spilling punch at a wedding and a
sprinkler system going off a at grocery store. For one variation of this study, Hyman et al. implanted
the memory of an overnight hospitalization with a high fever, and possible ear infection. The
participants were told they were going to be asked about events from their childhood based on
information provided by their parents. They were then given the titles of the events (including the

Some ideas in the field include looking at the response speed of the recollection of memories, and the
emotion felt when recalling the memory (Reisberg). A common assumption is that the confidence with
which memory is recalled could indicate its accuracy. However, there is very little association with
how sure someone is about the occurrence of an event and how accurate their recollection is. We are
often sure of our false memories.
Smith, Ellsworth, and Kassin explain this in their study on Eyewitness Accuracy and Confidence.
They note that most officials in court cases overwhelmingly believe confidence in eyewitness
testimony to be positively correlated with accuracy. To disprove this, they studied about 100
undergraduate students from Stanford University. They had the students watch a car accident,
participate in a filler task, and then answer questions about the car accident. They were asked to rate
the confidence on their answers on a scale of 1 (no clue) to 10 (absolutely sure). The researchers then
computed the correlation of accuracy and confidence and found the same conclusion as Reisberg
explained: confidence can not be solid an indicator of accuracy (Smith 358).
In fact, the more we are asked to recall a memory, the more confident we become, which is
unfortunate because it s easy to create a false memory. Let us take an

Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written every one of them, the day that

founded the Missionaries of charity, before Malcolm Muggeridge caputured her life in real action and
in words, God had already written a biography of Mother Teresa. Those who read of Mother Teresa s
life become inspired to live a purposeful and wholly devoted life, yet literary critics of Muggeridge
focus on finding fault in the structure of words. Muggeridge s biography of Mother Teresa may be
viewed as lacking impartiality, however, biographies are meant to be inspiring. Three reasons why it is
important for biographies to be inspiring are biographies acknowledge significant lives, encourage

Identity In Outliers By Malcolm Gladwell
Most young adults do not have a single clue of what they want to do with their lives. These young
adults do not know who they are or what they want to become. They are absolutely oblivious until the
end of high school or even college. They have not developed their identity completely. Meanwhile, in
the book Outliers, written by Malcolm Gladwell, it talks about certain characters who have developed
their identity and stand out in history, such as Bill Gates and Bill Joy. It talks about how these
successful people became successful. There are many aspects that contribute to the identity and
success of someone. The development of one s identity plays an important role in one s future and
determines who someone is; their identity is based off their skills, talents, and the background that

One s skills and talents define what someone does and how others perceive them. In Outliers,
Gladwell speaks of the 10,000 Hour Rule . He says that if one practices a skill for 10,000 hours, then
they will master that skill. Some musicians, like the Beatles, are known for their music and their
musical talent, because they practiced over 10,000 hours. Their musical skills help develop their
identity and how others recognize them. Also, the author states, The average person has an average IQ
of one hundred, the voice over continued. Einstein one fifty. Chris has an IQ of one ninety five
(Gladwell 70). This quote takes place during a game show, in which Chris is competing in. Since
Chris has such a prodigious IQ, he has multiple skills in intelligence. This increases his chance in
winning the game show. The Beatles s and Chris s identity are developed by their skills and talents. If
they never became famous, they would not be the people they are today. Even though skills and talents
play an immense role in developing one s identity, other factors can contribute to it, such as the

My Math Problems In My Life
Papa! Papa! I really can t do this; this math problem is impossible to solve! I ran crying to him,
startled by the complexity of a 4+6 math problem. Since I was a conceited, omniscient second grader
that knew everything from coloring inside the thick bold lines of a circle to counting to fifty three
when the whole class was at fifty one, getting my knowledge challenged wasn t my happiest

strangling those 4+6 problems in your life and you will fly there one day. Now! Go try solving it, then

impossible possible started. Excited about facing the impossible, I made myself a list of all the things
that my parents, family, friends, and teachers thought will make me great. After almost a decade from
the time I wrote that list, I started going through my list: soccer, check; tennis, check; theatre, check;
basketball, check; business, check; medical, check. Ironically, everything I started doing seemed to be

Envisioning a Sustainable City
I grew up in two different places. From the day I was born until age 6, I lived in a small village in
Ukraine. My family then moved to California, where I continued growing up in Sacramento. These
two places have completely different lifestyles. I will begin with my life in Ukraine. As previously
mentioned, I grew up in a small village, where everyone had land that they farmed. Farming was our
main source for food, because back then not everyone was able to afford to buy food at stores.
Everyone also had animals, mostly chickens, pigs, and cows. Most families had one cow; the lucky
ones had two or three. Every day, there was always work to be done, we couldn t just sit in and relax
the whole day. The farmland had to be plowed, watered, and farmed, the animals had to be fed and
cleaned after. This was our daily routine. Our family had an old car that literally had to be fixed after
every single time it drove. Our life in Ukraine was very sustainable. We rarely used our car, so there
was very little carbon emissions. We didn t have electricity, so we used candles and oil lamps as our
light sources. Overall, our lifestyle was very green in Ukraine, until we moved to Sacramento, CA. In
Sacramento, we did not have the same interaction with our environment, because we lived in the city.
My relatives gave us a car to drive on. And back then, in 2000, the cars were not very green, so that
increased our ecological footprint. We started using electricity and using our car more, and

earlier levels of nursing programs. When involved in surgical care around appendicitis, among the
many actions which can be done, the arguably most important intervention which can be applied is
continual perioperative care (Lewis, 2014).
Frequent patient assessment can prevent a variety of complications in appendectomy patients. After
this gastrointestinal surgery with abdominal incisions, patients may have an increased risk of
contracting paralytic ileus, or peristalsis cessation (Lewis, 2014). This can result in various other
concerns arising, meaning that prevention and early intervention can greatly improve patient ... Show

Salminen et al. (2015) found that there was a sufficiently high success rate to warrant antibiotic
treatment for appendicitis as an option presented to the patient. Nurses should advocate for their
patients by raising awareness that antibiotic therapy has been shown to be a viable treatment for
appendicitis. Thus, should surgery be contraindicated for any reason, alternative therapy is available to
treat the condition. This includes lobbying institutions and agencies to culture the appendix, if
possible. This way, as the patient is on general antibiotics for appendicitis, more specific medication
can be available in order to administer more efficient and safe care to patients with

A Brief Note On Lujo Hemorrhagic Fever
Lujo Hemorrhagic Fever is caused by a bi segmented negative RNA virus that is one of the several
viruses known to cause viral hemorrhagic fever. The Lujo virus is part of the Arenaviridae family, that
consist of several viruses categorized into two primary groups. The Lujo virus is categorized in the
Old World group, which signifies that the virus in question was discovered in the Eastern Hemisphere,
specifically in Africa. The majority of the arenaviruses that are categorized in the Old World group do
not cause severe illness, with the exception of a few including the Lassa and Lujo virus. As of 2012,
the Lujo virus is classified as a select agent as it is distinguished to possess the potential to severely
threaten the US public s health and safety when the mortality rate and modes of transmission is taken
into consideration.
Lujo Hemorrhagic Fever at the time being has been reported in five patients, in the time span ranging
from September to October in 2008. The cases originated in Southern Africa, in the cities of Lusaka
and Johannesburg. The cities are the basis for the naming of the virus; the first two letters of both
cities were utilized to name the virus. The first patient, a 36 year old female in Lusaka was reported to
be infected with the Lujo virus prior to September 2nd. Symptoms manifested on said day, and the
patient was admitted to a clinic on the sixth day of the illness; Patient one expired on illness day 10.

Many Rivers To Cross Summary
Everyone has a desire, something that they want to achieve or obtain for them. Whether it is ethical or
immoral, having desires is almost inevitable. Sometimes these desires make people go through tough
times. Tragic occurrences such as death and broken relationships shape the lives of people positively
or negatively. In the following essay, Many Rivers to Cross and the short stories, Two Kinds and
Everyday Use , the protagonists of these texts struggle to achieve their desire, but because of those
struggles the main characters do eventually come to a revelation. Many Rivers to Cross written by
June Jordan is about a young lady who goes through a difficult childhood which follows her to her
adult life. Her father was not very much ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One thing that the author was trying to get across is that people have to fight for what they want.
Nothing is simply handed to anyone. In Many Rivers to Cross , she goes through a lot of adversity.
The divorce with her husband was one, but the main one was her mother s suicide. Usually after
someone dies in a person s life, a whole new window is opened. The young woman realized a lot after
her mother s death. The effect of her mother s death was that she knew from then on that she had to
live her life the best way she can. She was so tired of letting everyone down. This was her revelation,
And it was to honor my mother that I did fight with my father, that man who could not tell the living
from the dead, she said, And really it is to honor Mrs. Hazel Griffin and my cousin Valerie all the
woman that I love (Jordan, 68 71). The struggles that the character in Two Kinds goes through is
continuously disappointing her mother. What was most difficult for her was that she lives in a foreign
family, a Chinese family, which most people know that they can be really strict people. Every time her
mother set her up to do something that she did not want to do, she failed at it and that made her mother
upset. The author is showing the reader the effects of that through the emotion of the child. But she
did come to a revelation with herself. She knew that her mother could only do so much

The Human Papillomavirus ( Hpv ) Vaccine
Research proves that certain cervical cancers can be prevented by simply getting vaccinated against
the Human Papillomavirus (Shafer, Cates, Diehl, Hartmann, 2011). This virus is responsible for 99%
of the cervical cancers (Smith, 2008). The Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is the most sexually
transmitted disease in the world (Nath Thappa, 2009). Four main strains of HPV exists, 6,11,16 and 18
(Smith, 2008). HPV strains 16 and 18 are the causative factors for 70% of the cervical cancers (Smith,
2008). HPV strains 6 and 11 cause about 90% of genital warts (Smith, 2008). Without serious side

Parents have a safety concern , and do not want to give the HPV vaccine or any other vaccines for that
matter. The measles outbreak in California shows that there is an active anti vaccine group in the
United States at this time. Although The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) does acknowledge that all
vaccines have a potential for allergic reactions. The HPV vaccine has been only known to cause pain
at the injection site, fever, nausea and fainting ( HPV Vaccine Information for Clinicians Fact Sheet,
2015). The National Vaccine Information Center (NVIC) discusses the possibility of vaccines,
including the HPV vacines being associated with learning disabilities ( National Vaccine Information
Center Archives, n.d.). However, there is no proof to support that consensus, and there is medical
scientific evidence that disproves the false conceptions in regards to the safety of vaccines (Chatterjee
O Keefe, 2010).
Although some parents feel that mandating the HPV vaccine is a violation of their parental rights, it is
necessary for the greater good of public heath. Human Papillomavirus is the most sexual transmitted
infection, which makes this a public health problem, considering there are more than 6 million new
infections each year (Smith, 2008). Young women raging from 15 to 25 years of age are half of the
new HPV cases (Smith, 2008). Parents believe that their parental rights would be usurped

Meanings and Significations of Linguistic Terms
The language is the main communication channel for the human species. As humans are social beings,
thorough understanding of the language is essential for coherent and correct communication that can
lead to good, clear transmission of ideas, meanings and subtle nuances the way people intend to. In
former times, humans relied on symbols and drawings to make their messages known, their system of
communication being quite rudimentary compared to what we have today, when the language has seen
an accelerated development and has grown into such broad directions that people cannot even possibly
know the entire array of meanings and significations. In the following, the paper will go through a list
of words, trying to explain what they mean and give examples of their uses.
Idiom simply said, an idiom is a construction of words that has a figurative meaning, different from
the meanings of the words that build it. However, the figurative meaning of an idiom is not necessarily
predictable from the direct meanings of its components. To illustrate this main aspect, perhaps the best
well known example is: It s raining cats and dogs . Here, there is clearly absolutely no reference to the
animals mentioned, what the idiom points out is that it s heavily raining. The English language (both
British and American) has thousands of idioms, this showing just how heavily important they are to
the language. Another, more direct meaning of the word idiom would be synonym to dialect , the

The electric vehicle market offering the first all electric mass produced car made its appearance in
Canada in 2011 with the Nissan Leaf . Quebec s electric vehicle market is relatively young as well and
regroups only a few leading and innovative firms of the industry. In 2014, only 2 835 Quebecers were
owners of an electric vehicle , which is less than 0.04% of the population. The purchase price of
electric vehicles is much higher than gasoline vehicles, therefore people who purchase electric
vehicles tend to have higher income and be concentrated in particular neighborhoods. In addition,
another important factor in vehicle choice these days is their repercussions on the environment. Some
consumers are concerned with environmental degradation, and are motivated to reduce carbon
emissions and its impact on the environment, therefore they purchase more fuel efficient vehicles. A
recent estimate states that the industry is booming; on average, three to four electrical cars are
estimated to be sold every day in the province of Quebec.
The demand for electrical vehicle is strongly concentrated in the Montérégie area (540 cars), on the
South Shore and in Montreal (340 cars). This demographic concentration shows that the demand is
related to the accrued presence of recharge stations (as well as income), in the Montérégie area there is
74 stations available, which is more than anywhere else. This implies that the demand is higher

The Cost of Childcare Essay
Childcare or daycare is one of the most commonly used resources among Americans in the United

for childcare, ranging from: in home care, childcare facilities, after school or government funded Head
Start programs. . Head Start is a federally funded governmental program with the explicit goal of
preparing underprivileged children for primary education (Conley). This program is another option for

Some families are not able to provide childcare when they need it for their kid(s). The cost and the
scarcity of day care have helped create what sociologist Joya Misra calls the motherhood penalty
(Quart). Some families have to have only one income so that one parent could stay home to watch the
kid(s). Single parents have to move in with their parents for help because they can not afford the care.
People should not have to quit their jobs to take care of their kids when there are multiple daycare
facilities.
In fact, recent studies have shown that the cost of daycare in some states has exceeded the average
tuition and fees of a public college. The cost per week per child is at its all time high for childcare and
that it is making it hard for parents. Paying $100 $350 a week for childcare sounds outrageous. The
cost of having an infant child in most states is higher than having a 6 year old. Most childcare
facilities charge families by the kids ages, the younger the child, the higher the cost. Honestly, daycare
facilities are making a killing because people are having babies that need care, but they have to go
back to work to support their family. Low income families have to struggle day by day because
childcare is so expensive. Childcare is expensive; however it s really an investment, because you

The first step would be the feasibility study for the plant. It would look after the constraints such as
the raw material supply, the processing of the biomass in to electricity, the consistency in energy
generation, the supply side of the electricity, and various other factors that might directly or indirectly
affect the generation of electricity. Once the feasibility study is done selection of site for establishing
the plant takes the driver¡¦s seat. The plant must be located where the raw material access and energy
supply is not a problem. A closed loop must be made in collaboration with the local farmers and mills
(sugarcane, wood, rice processing plants) for the uninterrupted supply of biomass. The capacity of the
plant must be decided keeping in mind the investments in to account. Also storage capacity must be
decided for the biomass as a major portion of it is cyclical in nature. Next in line is the study of the
market for electricity in the region and planning for the distribution of the same. The marketing
strategy needs to be finalized to take care of the supply side. Keeping all the above factors in to

dark secrets of human nature. One of the first American writers to explore his characters hidden

up with a fig leaf as in the case of Adam and Eva. The townspeople assume that Hooper has

horrified that Hooper seems to be showing his sin to the public. Puritans believe that sin must be

and sonnets. A sonnet is a 14line poem that rhymes in an iambic pentameter pattern. The sonnets
usually include two final lines at the end that summarize the whole poem, a couplet. Shakespeare s
first sonnet was published in 1609; the language is quite different from now, but his sonnets and plays
make a point and have themes that are still seen and used today. Shakespeare wrote 154 sonnets. Each

The Experience Machine
Imagine a machine in which a person can experience whatever they wish. A person can undertake the
craziest things. They can climb Mount Everest, swim in the ocean, and go skydiving without having
money or time as a hindrance. Or imagine there is a medicine that causes a person to be much less
aware of pain, both theirs and others. The pain experienced with a broken bone, or with healing from
psychological hurts would no longer be present. I will be arguing that such a machine or such a
medicine would diminish the fullness of life that can be acquired through reality and the experience of
pain. I will argue this by looking into fate and how living one s life in a machine would take away a
person s purpose, by looking into the importance of vulnerability and genuineness in relationships,
and lastly by looking into the purpose of pain and why pain is a necessary part of human existence.
The machine that allows for experiences of all sorts is called the Experience Machine, and it is an idea
that Robert Nozick created for his book Anarchy (1974). The machine definition that we will be
looking at is a machine where the person who is in the machine is in the machine for the rest of their
life, the person does not know that they are within the machine while they are inside of it, and lastly
only one person can be in the machine by themselves, but they can experience other people while they
are in there (the people that they experience in the machine are just copies of the person

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Glass Fiber Optics
1. What are sheathed fibers?
Answer
The optics that have an external cladding whether opaque or transparent in order to afford a
mechanical protection to the optics.
2. Why do some fibers change the colour of the light?
Answer
In fact, all fibers change the color of the light in one way or another. Due to the physical
characteristics of the conductor some frequencies travel with less impediment than others and it is
impossible to produce a fiber that would have the same attenuation on the whole of the visible
spectrum. To expect a light conductor to transport millions of different wavelengths along with exactly
the same attenuation in every one would be quite unreasonable.
Some fibers absorb a little more blue than red and less green than yellow and others just the opposite.
Consequently, the hue and tone of the light varies from meter to meter, in some cases very apparently.
This phenomenon is referred to as selective spectral absorption.

Cost is another factor; polymer fibers have a lower cost per optical area unit than glass, in part due to
the easier manufacturing process. High quality PMMA systems rely on a fusion process to construct

the use of many fibers or light points is prescribed polymer systems are a much better option. Another
point to bear in mind is the weight factor: glass fibers are heavier than polymer, a fact that may be

The Need for Waste-to-energy on Ships
The Need for Waste to energy on Ships
Waste to energy power plants are lowering the amount of waste we have in landfills and turning that
into energy to meet industrial needs. What if there was a way to shrink these power plants and put
them onto cargo and passenger ships? According to the Palm Beach Post, the Environmental
Protection Agency says, a cruise ship with 3,000 passengers can generate 210,000 of gallons of waste
and sewage and 1 million gallons of grey water from showers and drains in a typical week. 1 Most of
the material that lands in these waters is not biodegradable. The majority of ships will dump their
waste into the ocean, while others will store it until they get back to land, only to dump the waste into
landfills.
There are four reasons why having small generators on ships would work:
1) The use of generators would create job opportunities;
2) The generators are environmentally safe;
3) There would be abundant source of waste to use as fuel; and
4) The generators would keep dangerous waste, like plastic, from entering the waters.
The technology to produce energy from waste has already been proven to work. With a small
generator, ships would be recycling the waste into energy that could be used for providing electricity,
transportation, and industrial needs.
Waste to nearby facilities have already proved to be a great investment on land.2 The facilities provide
financial and environment benefits to the communities

sections called passus (Latin for step). The poem concerns the narrator s intense quest for true
Christian life, from the perspective of true Christian life, from the perspective of mediaeval
Catholicism. The quest includes a series of dream visions and an examination into the three allegorical
characters: Dowel (Do Well), Dobet (Do Better) and Dobest (Do Best). A man named Will

Holcomb, Kansas In Truman Capote s In Cold Blood
Out there is the phrase used to describe Holcomb, Kansas in the story In Cold Blood by Truman
Capote. Capote paints a picture of a small, run down, and insignificant western town using imagery,
careful attention to detail, and diction. Upon reading, readers are immediately transported to the
prairie, where things will soon become far more eventful. Using imagery, Capote make the slow town
of Holcomb more than a name. He sketches a mental picture starting from a distance and slowly
working its way in. The town is masterfully illustrated as a desolate wasteland. From the stark old
stucco structures to the flaking gold paint, Capote makes it very evident that Holcomb, Kansas is no in
the running for America s Most Beautiful Town award.

The Eastern Slope Of The Mingus Mountain
On the eastern slope of the Mingus Mountain in central Arizona sits the town of Jerome. Starting its
life as a mining town in the late 1800 s, Jerome, at one time, was known as the Wickedest Town in the
West. Between its bars, brothels, and gambling establishments, Jerome became one of the one of the
most accomplished locales in separating miners from their money.
With the dawn of the 1900 s, Jerome became more dignified with the establishment of churches,
schools, and businesses catering to its growing population. It even had its own post office and five car
dealerships. At its peak, Jerome boasted over 15,000 residents with 3000 miners employed in the
town.
By the 1950 s, the local mining industry had all but collapsed and the population dwindled to about
100 people. The perseverance of the remaining residents to prevent Jerome from becoming just
another ghost town, however, led to recognition of the town as a National Historic Site. Over the next
couple decades, Jerome went from being a downward spiraling, abandoned mining town to a major
central Arizona tourist destination.
Today, Jerome is a tourist mecca with numerous restaurants, galleries, wine tasting rooms, and unique
shops. A literal Ghost Town aspect of Jerome exists today in the form of local supernatural legends
and ghost tours. With its proximity to Prescott, Sedona, Flagstaff, and Interstate 17 and its unique
shops and restaurants, Jerome is a must see destination when traveling in central Arizona.

Financial Analysis
Cango Financial CanGo Financial Analysis Report The success of a business depends on its ability to
remain profitable over the long term, while being able to pay all its financial obligations and earning
above average returns for its shareholders. This is made possible if the business is able to maximize on
available opportunities and very efficiently and effectively use the resources it has to create maximum
value for all involved stakeholders. One way the performance of a company can be measured on
critical areas such as profitability, its ability to stay solvent, the amount of debt exposure and the
effectiveness in resource utilization, is performing financial analysis where a set of ratios provides a

Working capital is the money that a company has after paying off its current liabilities and with which
it can finance its operating and working capital requirements. The higher a number the better a
company is able to pay off its debt and have cash for meeting its financial obligations. The current
ratio is used to gauge a company s ability to pay back its short term liabilities (debt and payables) with
its short term assets (cash, inventory, receivables). The higher the current ratio, the more capable the
company is of paying its obligations. A ratio under 1 suggests that the company would be unable to
pay off its obligations if they came due at that point. The current ratio denotes the efficiency of a
company s operating cycle or its ability to turn its products into cash, which is a key requirement for
business success. Quick ratio is an indicator of a company s short term liquidity. The quick ratio
measures a company s ability to meet its short term obligations with its most liquid assets, essentially
cash and cash equivalents. The higher the quick ratio, the better the financial position of the company
in terms of its ability to meet its liabilities. Debt ratio The Debt/Equity ratio is a measure of a
company s financial leverage and indicates what proportion of equity and debt the company is using to
finance its assets. A high number indicated that the company is

Essay about Portrayal of Jane Osborne in Vanity Fair
The Redundant Woman
Thackeray s portrayal of Jane Osborne in Vanity Fair is very troubling to the reader of the twentieth
century. Grown to be a woman who is stuck under her tyrannical father s roof, her life appears to be
very confining and menial. Her sister snubs her, her nephew mocks her behind her back, her father
mocks her to her face, and her main role in life seems to be as her father s housekeeper. However,
Thackeray s portrayal would have had a very different effect on the Victorian reader. While all of these
things which affronted us would have been equally awful to them, Thackeray uses another key phrase
which has lost its effect on our modern minds: that unfortunate and now middle aged young lady
(448). Jane Osborne s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Michael Anderson has estimated from a sample of the 1851 census that some 1.8 million adult
women, 8.9 per cent of the adult female population were surviving without a husband in the mid
nineteenth century. Furthermore, this estimate does not include unsupported women below the age of
25 (Parkinson). When this destiny was denied, the fate of a redundant woman was very grim.
Fate
An unmarried woman was generally left in an untenable situation. Especially for the middle class, a
redundant woman was often a disastrous curse, where just a few years before she had been a dubious
commodity. Unmarried women, as we have seen in Thackeray, were often governesses. A governess,
however, was the subject of much social controversy, even spawning a whole literary trend, the
governess novel, which although nice to read was not nice as a character reference. Miss Firkins was
the archetypal redundant woman of Vanity Fair; her lot in life was that of a parasitic lady in waiting,
and temporary, after which she was to be shuffled between country relatives. Beyond these there were
few options. For the talented, writing was becoming a viable living, though certainly not at all the easy
life for which Victorian women were raised.

Little Brother Succeeds By Cory Doctorow
In all mediums of storytelling, storylines never follow a singular plots. Writers often attempt to shovel
in various subplots as a means of trying to captivate audiences who are not as interested by the main
story. These subplots often revolve around the main story in the sense that they coexist but do not
affect it. This entirely ruins the purpose of including subplots, as they should intertwine with and
almost become a part of the main plotline. This is where Cory Doctorow s novel Little Brother
succeeds. Throughout the novel, Doctorow focuses mainly on the story of Marcus Yallow, a high
schooler living in San Francisco with gifted abilities in hacking, and his friends as he fights the
manipulative government branch: The Department of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He writes Ange and Marcus characters so that together, they have a natural chemistry together in both
dialogue and actions. At one point, near the middle of the novel, Marcus and Ange go out on date to
one of Ange s favorite restaurants. The two decide to go to a burrito place. While there, Ange pulls out
a stainless steel canister and excessively sprays her burrito with it s contents. Marcus asks her what
she sprays her burrito with, to which she informs him that This is like pepper spray but slightly more
dilute. And way more delicious. Think of it as Spicy Cajun Visine if it helps (68). There is no other
passage in the novel that can exhibit Marcus and Ange s almost comedic chemistry together so
perfectly. Ange is, by heart, more of an eccentric. She enjoys going out of her way so that she may eat
spicy foods. She has an excessively liberal sense of mind and lives life how she sees fit. On the other
hand, Marcus has a much more conservative mentalities despite literally fighting against the
government. He openly voices his disgust to his date in a way that lets Ange know he feels appalled,
but still still likes her by asking What the hell are you doing to that poor, defenseless burrito? (68).
The two are an unlikely pair that is both entertaining and relatable to readers. The sincerity of their

Predicting Or Generating Expectations By Serena Lo Monaco Serena Lo Monaco Journal Predicting or Generating Expectations Currently while reading, it is safe to say the main protagonist of the novel is trying to escape his past life by leaving behind everything he s known for a new adventure featuring new people. Already he has tried to fit in by being something he is not. It is evident through his speech versus his thoughts. Short term events could consist of him changing who he is to fit into the current way of life he has walked into. Long term events could consist of the adventure he has with the new people he has met. He begins to fall for a taken girl amongst it all, but never voices his feelings for her. In the future the most important events could involve the girl and the lessons he learns along the way based on what is right compared to what is wrong. Puzzles Some questions I have been asking myself along the way have been, What is the Great Perhaps of the characters in the story? , all of the important events take place on Culver Creek Campus, why is this? . Another thing I have been thinking of is that John Green keeps the entire novel in the main character, Miles point of view. Why is this? Why have no other characters been given the ability to share their perspective on the important events happening as the story progresses? Filling the Gaps Everything Miles is going to go through in this book is for a reason. This book is very similar to real life in a sense that Miles is a typical teenager and wants ... Every single driver has habits that they acquired throughout the years of driving. Some don t use blinkers, others tend to go over the speed limit, and others don t wear seatbelts. Majority of those drivers can fall into one of the following categories: the carefree reckless driver, the overly cautious driver, and the normal driver which is the most preferred. We have all seen it, you are driving down the road and then out of nowhere a car comes flying past you in the other lane. That is a prime example of what we consider a carefree and reckless driver. President Obama was in London recently to wish the Queen her happy 90th birthday and help Prime Minister David Cameron win the referendum in which the British people will vote whether they want to remain in the EU or leave. In 1848, an all German parliament in Frankfurt was created. The goal of this parliament was to make a constitution for all German states. The series of liberal revolutions that had occurred over time reached a climax when people rebelled against the parliament, mainly because of Prussia and Austria s rivalry. This caused supporters of the parliament to advocate a small German nation state with Austria excluded (Gale). As this revolution took place, Bismarck was persuaded to reenter the government in order to protect the monarchy. Bismarck attended the Frankfurt Parliament and made his traditionalist opinions known through speeches. Some ideas in the field include looking at the response speed of the recollection of memories, and the emotion felt when recalling the memory (Reisberg). A common assumption is that the confidence with which memory is recalled could indicate its accuracy. However, there is very little association with how sure someone is about the occurrence of an event and how accurate their recollection is. We are often sure of our false memories. Smith, Ellsworth, and Kassin explain this in their study on Eyewitness Accuracy and Confidence. They note that most officials in court cases overwhelmingly believe confidence in eyewitness testimony to be positively correlated with accuracy. To disprove this, they studied about 100 undergraduate students from Stanford University. They had the students watch a car accident, participate in a filler task, and then answer questions about the car accident. They were asked to rate the confidence on their answers on a scale of 1 (no clue) to 10 (absolutely sure). The researchers then computed the correlation of accuracy and confidence and found the same conclusion as Reisberg explained: confidence can not be solid an indicator of accuracy (Smith 358). Usually after someone dies in a person s life, a whole new window is opened. The young woman realized a lot after her mother s death. The effect of her mother s death was that she knew from then on that she had to live her life the best way she can. She was so tired of letting everyone down. This was her revelation, And it was to honor my mother that I did fight with my father, that man who could not tell the living from the dead, she said, And really it is to honor Mrs. Hazel Griffin and my cousin Valerie all the woman that I love (Jordan, 68 71). The struggles that the character in Two Kinds goes through is continuously disappointing her mother. What was most difficult for her was that she lives in a foreign family, a Chinese family, which most people know that they can be really strict people. Every time her mother set her up to do something that she did not want to do, she failed at it and that made her mother upset. • 25. Meanings and Significations of Linguistic Terms The language is the main communication channel for the human species. As humans are social beings, thorough understanding of the language is essential for coherent and correct communication that can lead to good, clear transmission of ideas, meanings and subtle nuances the way people intend to. In former times, humans relied on symbols and drawings to make their messages known, their system of communication being quite rudimentary compared to what we have today, when the language has seen an accelerated development and has grown into such broad directions that people cannot even possibly know the entire array of meanings and significations. In the following, the paper will go through a list of words, trying to explain what they mean and give examples of their uses. Idiom simply said, an idiom is a construction of words that has a figurative meaning, different from the meanings of the words that build it. However, the figurative meaning of an idiom is not necessarily predictable from the direct meanings of its components. To illustrate this main aspect, perhaps the best well known example is: It s raining cats and dogs . Here, there is clearly absolutely no reference to the animals mentioned, what the idiom points out is that it s heavily raining. The English language (both British and American) has thousands of idioms, this showing just how heavily important they are to the language. In 2014, only 2 835 Quebecers were owners of an electric vehicle , which is less than 0.04% of the population. The purchase price of electric vehicles is much higher than gasoline vehicles, therefore people who purchase electric vehicles tend to have higher income and be concentrated in particular neighborhoods. In addition, another important factor in vehicle choice these days is their repercussions on the environment. Some consumers are concerned with environmental degradation, and are motivated to reduce carbon emissions and its impact on the environment, therefore they purchase more fuel efficient vehicles. A recent estimate states that the industry is booming; on average, three to four electrical cars are estimated to be sold every day in the province of Quebec. The demand for electrical vehicle is strongly concentrated in the Montérégie area (540 cars), on the South Shore and in Montreal (340 cars). Or imagine there is a medicine that causes a person to be much less aware of pain, both theirs and others. The pain experienced with a broken bone, or with healing from psychological hurts would no longer be present. I will be arguing that such a machine or such a medicine would diminish the fullness of life that can be acquired through reality and the experience of pain. I will argue this by looking into fate and how living one s life in a machine would take away a person s purpose, by looking into the importance of vulnerability and genuineness in relationships, and lastly by looking into the purpose of pain and why pain is a necessary part of human existence. The machine that allows for experiences of all sorts is called the Experience Machine, and it is an idea that Robert Nozick created for his book Anarchy (1974). The machine definition that we will be looking at is a machine where the person who is in the machine is in the machine for the rest of their life, the person does not know that they are within the machine while they are inside of it, and lastly only one person can be in the machine by themselves, but they can experience other people while they are in there (the people that they experience in the machine are just copies of the person ... Answer The optics that have an external cladding whether opaque or transparent in order to afford a mechanical protection to the optics. 2. Why do some fibers change the colour of the light? Answer In fact, all fibers change the color of the light in one way or another. Due to the physical characteristics of the conductor some frequencies travel with less impediment than others and it is impossible to produce a fiber that would have the same attenuation on the whole of the visible spectrum. To expect a light conductor to transport millions of different wavelengths along with exactly the same attenuation in every one would be quite unreasonable. Some fibers absorb a little more blue than red and less green than yellow and others just the opposite. Consequently, the hue and tone of the light varies from meter to meter, in some cases very apparently. This phenomenon is referred to as selective spectral absorption. 3. The Need for Waste-to-energy on Ships The Need for Waste to energy on Ships Waste to energy power plants are lowering the amount of waste we have in landfills and turning that into energy to meet industrial needs. What if there was a way to shrink these power plants and put them onto cargo and passenger ships? According to the Palm Beach Post, the Environmental Protection Agency says, a cruise ship with 3,000 passengers can generate 210,000 of gallons of waste and sewage and 1 million gallons of grey water from showers and drains in a typical week. 1 Most of the material that lands in these waters is not biodegradable. The majority of ships will dump their waste into the ocean, while others will store it until they get back to land, only to dump the waste into landfills. There are four reasons why having small generators on ships would work: 1) The use of generators would create job opportunities; 2) The generators are environmentally safe; 3) There would be abundant source of waste to use as fuel; and 4) The generators would keep dangerous waste, like plastic, from entering the waters. The technology to produce energy from waste has already been proven to work. The current ratio is used to gauge a company s ability to pay back its short term liabilities (debt and payables) with its short term assets (cash, inventory, receivables). The higher the current ratio, the more capable the company is of paying its obligations. A ratio under 1 suggests that the company would be unable to pay off its obligations if they came due at that point. • 43. Essay about Portrayal of Jane Osborne in Vanity Fair The Redundant Woman Thackeray s portrayal of Jane Osborne in Vanity Fair is very troubling to the reader of the twentieth century. Grown to be a woman who is stuck under her tyrannical father s roof, her life appears to be very confining and menial. Her sister snubs her, her nephew mocks her behind her back, her father mocks her to her face, and her main role in life seems to be as her father s housekeeper. However, Thackeray s portrayal would have had a very different effect on the Victorian reader. While all of these things which affronted us would have been equally awful to them, Thackeray uses another key phrase which has lost its effect on our modern minds: that unfortunate and now middle aged young lady (448). Jane Osborne s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Michael Anderson has estimated from a sample of the 1851 census that some 1.8 million adult women, 8.9 per cent of the adult female population were surviving without a husband in the mid nineteenth century. Furthermore, this estimate does not include unsupported women below the age of 25 (Parkinson). When this destiny was denied, the fate of a redundant woman was very grim. Fate An unmarried woman was generally left in an untenable situation. Especially for the middle class, a redundant woman was often a disastrous curse, where just a few years before she had been a dubious commodity. Unmarried women, as we have seen in Thackeray, were often governesses. A governess, however, was the subject of much social controversy, even spawning a whole literary trend, the governess novel, which although nice to read was not nice as a character reference. Miss Firkins was the archetypal redundant woman of Vanity Fair; her lot in life was that of a parasitic lady in waiting, and temporary, after which she was to be shuffled between country relatives. Beyond these there were few options. For the talented, writing was becoming a viable living, though certainly not at all the easy life for which Victorian women were raised. The many barriers restricting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Little Brother Succeeds By Cory Doctorow In all mediums of storytelling, storylines never follow a singular plots. Writers often attempt to shovel in various subplots as a means of trying to captivate audiences who are not as interested by the main story. These subplots often revolve around the main story in the sense that they coexist but do not affect it. This entirely ruins the purpose of including subplots, as they should intertwine with and almost become a part of the main plotline. This is where Cory Doctorow s novel Little Brother succeeds. Throughout the novel, Doctorow focuses mainly on the story of Marcus Yallow, a high schooler living in San Francisco with gifted abilities in hacking, and his friends as he fights the manipulative government branch: The Department of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He writes Ange and Marcus characters so that together, they have a natural chemistry together in both dialogue and actions. At one point, near the middle of the novel, Marcus and Ange go out on date to one of Ange s favorite restaurants. The two decide to go to a burrito place. While there, Ange pulls out a stainless steel canister and excessively sprays her burrito with it s contents. Marcus asks her what she sprays her burrito with, to which she informs him that This is like pepper spray but slightly more dilute. And way more delicious. Think of it as Spicy Cajun Visine if it helps (68). There is no other passage in the novel that can exhibit Marcus and Ange s almost comedic chemistry together so perfectly. Ange is, by heart, more of an eccentric. She enjoys going out of her way so that she may eat spicy foods. She has an excessively liberal sense of mind and lives life how she sees fit. On the other hand, Marcus has a much more conservative mentalities despite literally fighting against the government. He openly voices his disgust to his date in a way that lets Ange know he feels appalled, but still still likes her by asking What the hell are you doing to that poor, defenseless burrito? (68). The two are an unlikely pair that is both entertaining and relatable to readers. The sincerity of their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
