Essay On The Sixth Sense
An outsider is someone who is either forced or chooses to be different than others. There are
characters in the book Belzhar and the movie The Sixth Sense that are different than those around
them, which makes them outsiders. The book Belzhar by Meg Wolitzer is about a girl named Jam,
which is short for Jamaica, who had a boyfriend and his name was Reeve. Reeve was an exchange
student from London. Another character in Belzhar is Sierra. Both Jam and Sierra are considered
outsiders because of situations in their lives. Each character has become an outsider because of
personal circumstances in their lives that make them different from others. In the movie The Sixth

The majority of them aren t as happy as the rest of them or as they used to be because some horrific
event had happened. Sierra s brother Andre had been kidnapped, so the majority of the group didn t
know the feeling of not having her brother anymore. Jam had lost her boyfriend Reeve. The majority
of the group doesn t understand the feeling when losing a very close friend, family member, or
boyfriend. Everyone thought that Cole was strange because he socially isolated himself and didn t
interact with other children. Isolation is hard to bear for many of the characters in this novel like Jam,
Sierra , and Cole. As stated above, they are outsiders because they stand out as different from their
peers, speak their minds, and are often shunned by others in their community. But being different from
their peers also makes them individual. They are characters who display strength and courage because
they do not always go with the crowd. Being different than others and taking a different path is not
alway a bad choice. In fact, the differences these character s show make each one so likable and

Ulcer Bug Case Resolution Template
1) This case study focuses on the process of scientific inquiry. How did the researchers use this
process to learn about gastric ulcer disease, its causes, and its treatments?
Answer: The process started with the observation of Dr. Barry Marshall s observation of his patients
going through antibiotic therapy for non related ailments. Dr Marshall then hypothesized that
helicobacter pylori was the causation of peptic ulcer disease and not the end byproduct of
inflammations. The researchers then used research and study of inflamed stomach mucosa through a
period of antibiotic regimen to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Answer: I used emedicine to reference more statistical history on H. pylori and its common
applications in relation to the ulcer bug currently. Using the same data that was gathered from the
study referenced on D2L the protocols for treatment have vastly improved over the last couple years. I
thought about the long term effect that antibiotic treatment of this bacteria and how the bacteria itself
burrows itself into the stomach mucosa thus causing the ulceration. The article I read also mentioned
that this specific bacteria is also responsible for inflammation in the duodenum (part of the small
intestine). In summation there also is a higher risk for stomach cancer and lymphoma also associated
with this bug.
4) What does each of these additional items contribute to the solution of the case? For example, the
item contains data from specific tests, trials, or experiments, or presents analyses that can be used to
understand the main issues in this case. Answer: The additional information was more of a statistical
analysis of current day treatments, protocols and outcomes. The main issue for this specific case is the
presence of the bug and causing the gastritis and that issue still applies today. In the article referenced
above 50% of the world s population is infected with this bacterium. Though vastly more prevalent in
third world nations roughly 20 30% of

History of the world in 6 glasses
A History of the World in 6 Glasses Section 1: Beer: Beer was not invented, it was discovered. Exactly
when the first beer was brewed is unknown but there was almost certainly no beer before 10,000 BCE.
The rise of beer was closely associated with the domestication of the cereal grains rom which it is
made and the adoption of farming. Beer originated in the Fertile Crescent in Egypt and Mesopotamia.
To beer drinkers in the Neolithic period, beer s ability to intoxicate and induce a state of altered
consciousness seemed magical. This caused them to believe beer was a gift from the Gods. Since it
was a gift from the gods, it was presented as a religious offering in religious ceremonies, agricultural

Tea: Tea began as a luxury drink, and then trickled down to become the beverage of the working man.
The story of tea is the story of imperialism, industrialization, and world domination. According to
Chinese tradition, the first cup of tea was brewed by the emperor Shen Nung. Before tea was a
beverage, it was used for medicinal purposes and foodstuff. Tea became a daily drink in China around
the third century A.D. As the Industrial Revolution of 18th and 19th centuries gained steam, tea
provided some of the fuel. Factory workers stayed alert during long, monotonous shifts thanks to
welcome tea breaks. The beverage also had unintended health benefits for rapidly growing urban
areas. Chewing leaves and rubbing them on wounds were ways that tea was used for medicinal
purposes. Coca Cola In May 1886 John Pemberton invented a drink, Coca Cola, by accidentally
stumbling on the right combination of ingredients while trying to devise a cure for headaches.
Pemberton was an experienced maker of patient medicines, which were hugely popular in America in
the late nineteenth century. The name was coined by one of Pemberton s business associates, Frank
Robinson. He also contributed to the promotion of the drink by sending out tickets for free samples
and putting up posters and banners that read Drink Coca Cola, 5c. Robinson also developed the
famous logo for Coca Cola, which appeared in newspaper

Identifying A Cluster Of Media Communication
Examining a cluster of media communication in order to review common and unique approaches that
the marketing industry utilizes was not something that crossed my mind to ever do. The task was not
as easy as I expected when explained in class; but, it was interesting and seeing as though I have
learned over the years through my other classes that the average American spends somewhere near 8
hours of their day watching television, the marketing industry has a big advantage using commercials
to attract their viewers and manipulate them into purchasing and using or consuming the product they
are delivering to them through the television screen. For this assignment, I tuned into TBS where an
episode of Friends was finishing up and an episode ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Of all the commercials I saw, they were all geared towards young adults and older. From Ink Joy pen
commercials to a Realtor.com commercial with Pepsi, Pizza Hut, and Reds Ale in between, these
commercials seem to be heavily concentrated on adults, the activities they take part in, and the
resources they will need for future endeavors. I was unable to document a significant difference in the
types of commercials shown during these programs in order to have much of a comparison, but there
was enough alike about them to dissect them and really figure out the methods which broadcasting
companies use in order to attract their buyers and consumers. For every television channel I have ever
watched throughout my life the commercials have always been significantly louder than the actual
show I am viewing; not just for these two channels, but I did notice it more when actually having to
pay attention. Why does this annoying thing constantly happen every channel I choose to watch? The
answer to this question: marketing purposes. It is in the companies best interest on becoming
successful with the product they are attempting to sell by turning the volume up on their commercials
louder than the actual television show because it attracts the viewers and manipulates them in to
paying attention to them. People are not watching television shows to see the commercials; maybe

The Omnivore s Dilemma Analysis
The Omnivore s Dilemma: Michael Pollan s View If you ask almost any American, they will admit to
standing in a grocery store aisle, looking at food labels and brand names, trying to decide what to buy.
This is a modern example of what experts call The Omnivore s Dilemma . In his book, The Omnivore
s Dilemma, Michael Pollan explores different ways of getting the food that you eat. He talks about
how our food goes from living to packaged. The book is divided into four parts based on different
meal types. Pollan argues that this dilemma is fueled by American s lack of food culture, inability to
follow their instincts, and the insane number of choices they face. Pollan s first claim deals with the
American food culture, or lack thereof. In his words, We have few rules about what to eat, when to
eat, and how to eat. (92). This lack of structure results in food fads , or constant changes in what is
perceived to be good for us to eat. Most other places in the world have tradition to fall back on. For
example, Mexicans eat lots of foods like corn tortillas and beans, while people in China eat more rice
and potstickers. Pollan argues that being on your own when solving this dilemma makes ... Show

If we did, our primal desire to eat as much salt and sugar as we can would take over. This is an old
instinct from when we didn t know when our next meal would be. We also have a natural aversion to
foods that taste bitter. This occurs because bitter foods are more likely to be poisonous; however, they
actually contain critical nutrients that we can t survive without. Pollan enforces this point by saying,
They bark of the willow tree is extremely bitter, but early humans learned to make tea from it anyway.
Why? Because willow bark contains salicylic acid, a pain reliever. (89). This quote goes to show that
our instincts are no help when it comes to choosing our food. They can sometimes even make it

Children at home and abroad
There are a growing number of concerns in the nation. All of which are focused so heavily on by news
and media outlets that even the most serious of issues are overlooked. One of these topics is child
prostitution, and its an epidemic that s propelled by inadequate orphanages, ineffective laws, and a
demand in commercial sex. Even places like the UK and America are no strangers to the underage sex
industry.
In London there s a dark alley along Edgeware road where the city likes to turn a blind eye. An
average night there will cost you from six to fifteen pounds. Men make up a large portion of the
patrons but the business there is no stranger to the opposite sex. Children walk about and the only
distinction between them and regular orphans is the following word; Business?
There s no secret to child prostitution, it s been around since perverts first decided thirteen was a ripe
age for womanhood. The lines get a little hazy trying to figure out when the council of child molesters
said let s go younger , but the general idea is that it happened sometime after society looked into age
of consent . For most it s a thick brush stroke, clear and unmistakable, painted in the pages of the law,
purposed to protect the innocent. For the council men it s a barrier they re compelled to penetrate, an
innocence that needs to be reaped.
How do children find themselves in that situation to begin with? Run aways and

The Importance Of Tourism And Tourism In Vietnam
The trip to Vietnam from the 16th of November to the 1st of December was an eye opener to my life
as I saw how the locals live and operate daily. This has helped myself gain a new perspective on life.
With gaining a new perspective it has helped myself understand and give direction to achieve my
future goals and personally help with figuring out a which career path within tourism and hospitality I
would like to go down. Over recent years in Vietnam tourism and hospitality impacted the local lives
which helped myself understand how they live the way they do. Travelling to diverse cities such as Ho
Chi Minh, Hoi An and Halong Bay showed me that Vietnam has different aspects on offer to help
myself understand their cultural but also the hospitality and tourism industry. The hospitality and
tourism within each city support the history of Vietnam. This increases the experience economy as
individual travel for their traditions but also to be educated about Vietnam and their past.
When visiting the University of Economics, Ho Chi Minh I had the chance to meet several of their
students. Long Ngugyen and Minh Tri Phan Duy, who helped Chloe, Sarah, Rebecca and I with our
project. During the project, we learned about the tourism and hospitality industry throughout Vietnam.
Travelling to areas such as walking street which is Nguyen Hue St, Pham Ngu Lao Street and the

Ellen Degeneres Heritage And Clayman
B) Examine how organisation of talk (Heritage Clayman) influence authenticity. Ellen DeGeneres was
the 2012 recipient of the Mark Twain prize which recognises individuals who have made significant
contributions to American humour. The authenticity of DeGeneres speech is explored by looking at
only the extent to which the party orients to the overall structural organisation, (Dimensions of
Institutional Talk in Heritage Clayman, 2010, pp. 43). DeGeneres speech follows the general
conventions of an acceptance speech: showing appreciation for her recognition and the people who
have given her their support; stating how honoured she is and mentioning award by name; sharing
thoughts about being awarded; saying something inspiration, which in DeGeneres case, was
recounting how her trials and tribulations have made her the person she is today. However, she

and make her speech seem unplanned and personal in contrast to the usual concise, or otherwise

Compairison of Young Goodman Brown and No Country For...
The story Young Goodman Brown by Nathaniel Hawthorne depicts a man whose inner desire is to
experience the evil forbidden forest, as well as retaining his image as a, good and honest Christian.
This internal conflict is also portrayed in the movie No Country for Old Men, which was directed and
written by the Coen brothers. In the movie the main character, Llewellyn Moss, is confronted with the
moral dilemma of either keeping the drug money he found or calling the police. Although he morally
makes the wrong decision, he still tries to maintain his values and character. Essentially the central
conflict of Young Goodman Brown is faithfulness versus forbidden, and the central conflict in No
Country for Old Men is honesty versus corruption. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The good willed sheriff (Ed Tom Bell) was always doing his best to prevent Moss from getting
himself killed, and also wanted to put a stop to the increasing drug related violence in the country. The
point of disequilibrium in the movie occurs when Moss discovers the bust drug deal and the money.
Moss and Bell were both honest and decent hearted characters (for the most part), and they both were
very reminiscent of Goodman Brown. All three characters share same characteristic of honesty, and
determination that they will beat conflict confronting them. Hawthrone s story climax is when
Goodman Brown first discovers his wife s hair ribbon in the forest, and then finally sees her in the evil
sermon. The resolution is that when Goodman Brown returns to the Salem again he becomes
estranged with this wife and social circle, and becomes very paranoid. The climax is No Country for
Old Men is when Moss faces off with the hitman and escapes to a motel where other members of the
gang eventually murder him. In the end Moss is killed and the sheriff retires when he sees he can t
stop the violence. Corruption essentially beats out honesty at the end of the movie. Both stories share
the same resolutions as well because nothing is really resolved for the better in the sense that evil
prevails at the end of both stories. Some of the values that differed in each story were

Because of this approach, the empirical sample of female managers is small, comprising of five
female managers from a total of 60 managers interviewed, but is representative of levels of female
management within the organisations and industries participating.
This research used company visits, over 60 semi structured interviews with selected practising
managers in key companies, and periods of non participatory observation inside companies within
Spain. Managers were selected by interview from a wide variety of Spanish businesses. The aim was

in Spain in general, and to try to discern if there were issues common to female managers. The
sample included companies with various forms of governance. With the importance of the state sector
in Spain, and the dominance of multinational companies (MNCs), as well as a significant number of
family owned large and medium sized businesses, it was important to include companies from each
sector by ownership. This included Spanish owned MNCs, Spanish owned national companies,
Spanish owned regional companies, and Foreign owned MNCs. The emphasis was on the
manufacturing industry. This is primarily because these companies are strategically placed within the
business infrastructure. A limitation of the sample drawn from this is that it does not offer a complete

The Effect Of Unconventional Gas Expansion On Energy Economy
Section 8 9
8. Effect of Unconventional Gas Expansion on Energy Economy
8.1 Methodology
The expansion of the unconventional gas production exhibits a number of uncertainties with regards to
the natural gas overall supply balance which in turn has a great impact on the energy economy in
general. In order to understand this effect, one must start to look in to the
1. Difference in trading between the main sources of energy: oil and Natural gas and how this
expansion is going to affect these methods of trading either negatively or positively.
2. The cost of production from unconventional gas resources and the future expected changes due to
development in technology. Adding to that the expected amount of production in the future.
Giving ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Asia uses crude oil as a benchmark for natural gas prices and favours long term contracts. Japan and
Korea almost totally dependent on imported LNG. This dependence places a high premium on
security of supply and has kept prices in Asia high relative to other regions (Suárez, 2012).
Despite the two different trading methods between gas and oil, historically it has been noticed that the
trend in energy cost of both is following the same trend ignoring the price difference based on trading
model between the three pre mentioned trading methods for Natural gas.
The fast recent development of production from unconventional gas resources mainly shale gas in
North America (United States and Canada) has interrupted this relationship.
Early in 21st century, North America was forecasted to require around 60 billion cubic feet/ year of
gas and since the resources at that time do not include the unconventional gas resources, this supply
was forecasted to be delivered from other countries including Qatar, Angola and Nigeria. A number of
export terminals were built on those countries. In addition, around 50 import terminals were planned
to be constructed in North America including Mexico, United States and Canada.

Japan s Impact On Japan
Introduction: The 2011 Japan Earthquake was one of the most destructive earthquakes that the area
had experienced in centuries. Earthquakes regularly impact Japan due to the nearby subduction zone
under the northwestern Pacific Ocean. This is where the Pacific and North American tectonic plates
meet, which ultimately causes frequent seismic activity. The 2011 earthquake is the 5th largest
recorded since 1900 worldwide, and is classified as a 9.0 reverse fault mega thrust earthquake
(Mantanle 823). What furthered the destructive ability of the earthquake was the upthrust and
subsidence, which generated a series of massive tsunamis that struck the coast of Honshu. These
tsunamis ravaged low lying coastal areas, which led to unmanageable flooding and the meltdown of
the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant. Japan relies heavily on nuclear power; therefore this
became detrimental to local residents and industries relying on this power source. Japan has proved
itself somewhat capable to combat biophysical vulnerability with resilience. Japan has employed
numerous structural and non structural measures to minimize losses for future hazards. Furthermore,
Japan is considered to be one of the world s most successful democracies, and has one of the largest
economies. The preparedness of Japan is what reduces vulnerability and probability of risk for future
hazardous events, specifically earthquakes (Cutter 530). On a local level, the 2011 Japan earthquake is
significant because

China Between The Republic Of China
After The Chinese Civil War ended in 1950, a separation of old China between the Republic of China
(ROC, commonly known as Taiwan ) and the People s Republic of China (PRC, commonly known as
China ) created legal and political dilemmas (Hsieh, 2016). They both declare the island of Taiwan is
an integral part of their territories. Until the 1990s, Taiwan was able to conquer her diplomatic
isolation by expanding the international trade and investment flows to all of her business partners
regardless of official government recognitions (Chow, 2016). The nation s per capita income rises
from $1,869 to $46,500 in nearly four decades since 1979, higher than that of the United Kingdom.
Taiwan is the world s twentieth largest exporter, having the relatively low underclass population (1.5
percent of the population). In 2016, her foreign exchange reserves are estimated to reach the world s
top five, at approximately 433.5 billion US Dollar (Waldron, 2016).
However, the rapid development of China s economy and her enormous market potentiality give the
Chinese government leverages to influence Taiwan s international relationships; in fact, Taiwan s
exports to China, Hong Kong, and Macau combine more than one third of her total exports, and
Beijing makes no secret of her intention to take advantage of this dependence (Subba, 2016). For
instance, instead of using Republic of China , Taiwan was forced to use the name of Chinese Taipei to
join the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation

Why Polygamy Should Be Legal
Could you imagine living in a world where it is acceptable for a man to marry more than one woman
and be open about it? A large number cannot and the practice of polygamy is seen as a taboo. The
families usually live private lives, and they do not interact with the rest of America due to anti bigamy
society we live in. Polygamy is the practice of being married to more than one person at the same
time. This is not to be confused with an open relationship or an open marriage. This topic was viewed
as controversial for years. As a practice that was not accepted in the public eye, it recently gained
more attention with mainstream media and culture. Shows on television such as Sister Wives may
pose questions if polygamy should be legally practiced, and it should not be. The stronger actions that
law enforcement continues to take against polygamist communities are justified. Women who partake
in the practice often times are not old enough or aware enough to be offered a real choice in the
polygamist marriage. Furthermore, the young women engaging in the practice makes it illegal. They
should be taken out of these environments as well as have the choice to live their lives as they please.
Polygamy can equally be seen as a way of oppressing women. The wives are forced to share their
husband with multiple women, while addressing the husband as their leader . Polygamous unions
nonetheless are still thriving in present day America as of 2015. These communities are allowed to

How Did Lenin Gain Power
The first two leaders of the Soviet Union, Vladimir Lenin and Joseph Stalin had very different
methods in commanding their country. Differences can be seen in the way they achieved their political
power and how they dealt with their political opponents. Similarities can be seen in the way that these
men were unwilling to share their power. Vladimir Lenin achieved his political power by rallying
fellow Bolsheviks to seize government installations and storm the capital. The plan made Lenin the
visible figurehead of the Bolsheviks and the new government that was put into place. While Lenin
overtly planned his seizure of power, Joseph Stalin was able to achieve his power behind the scenes.

Of the delegates who attended the National Congress of the CPSU (Communist Party of the Soviet
Union) in 1934, fully 70 percent had been executed by the time of the National Congress in 1939 (pg.

differed by allowing his Bolshevik opponents to remain in their posts, but was mindful of their
activities. He took action to prevent these opponents from ousting him form power. This action can be
seen when Lenin, weary of his opponents turning to the Romanov family for leadership had the entire
family executed. A similar characteristic that both of these leaders shared was their refusal to share
power. This can be seen in Stalin s accumulation of powers as the general secretary, which lead to his
complete control of the country. Lenin also maintained this trait as he actively tried to subvert the
leftist that had opposed the coup before it had occurred. I think that if Lenin had lived another twenty
years that the country may have had a completely different government in place. Lenin was able to
guide the party through the civil car that solidified his power in the new government, but he had a lot
of opponents with differing views. I think it is possible that there could have been another coup to try

Prometheus Bound Essay
The ancient Greeks had many hardships and even resemble those that we are facing in current times;
yet, to tell these stories they shrouded them in fiction so they could tell a truth. In the short play
Prometheus Bound, we find the main character Prometheus being bound to the face of a desolate cliff
so that he may face the elements and never have a human look upon him since he favored humans
over Zeus. Here I will tell my analysis of Prometheus Bound from the understanding of who
Prometheus was, the conflict that is presented among some of those who visited him, and what his
story has on our current society.
Prometheus was a deity that had once been one of the original Titans and since is name means

Problems In Intercultural Communication Essay
Problems In Intercultural Communication Humans have been communicating since four million years.
On the other hand, the birth of culture is estimated to have taken place about 35,000 years ago. Today,
both culture and communication have evolved considerably and have become interdependent of one
another, to the point that communication is considered to be a product of culture. Thus, our own
culture has a deep impact on our thoughts and behaviors. Since each culture has its distinct aspects,
intercultural communication can be the cause of conflict and disorder. There are three main issues
which are at the root of the problem of intercultural miscommunication : language as a barrier, cultural
diversity and ethnocentrism. I will analyze ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Among the most important concepts to emerge are those relating to dialects and language standards.
Sociolinguists have documented the presence of dialects in every language. These dialects, all of
which are legitimate, are associated with educational, economic, social and historical conditions.
Hence, even if an individual scrupulously studies all the possible dictionaries of a random language,
he would still be somewhat of a stranger to that language since he is unaware of all the dialectal
changes. In addition to differences in pronunciation, vocabulary and grammatical structures among
cultural groups, variations also exist in the rules for general discourse in oral communication, covering
such specific acts as narratives and conversation. In communicating with one another, teachers and
students naturally will follow the assumptions and rules governing discourse within their respective
cultures. Discourse rules govern such aspects of communication as: opening or closing conversations;
taking turns during conversations; interrupting; using silence as a communicative device; interjecting
humor at appropriate times and using nonverbal behavior. Once again, an American student studying
in the middle east, who would constantly interrupt the teacher in order to clarify the professor s
opinion, would be considered to be

In J.D. Salinger s Nine Stories , there are two stories that indicate a death, and, remarkably, these two
short stories are what begin and end this captivating piece of literature. The first story is called A
Perfect Day for Bananafish and introduces a man who has been through the hell of World War II,
which allows him to see things from a different perspective. The latter is called Teddy and revolves
around a young, ingenious boy that seems to have a speculative mindset and very deep insight into

hand, end up going mad and killing themselves. However, this proves to be Salinger s point. It

When Seymour takes his own life, we backtrack to his story and he is then seen as a celestial figure,
ahead of his time and full of wisdom. Metaphorically speaking, the bananafish ideology depicts
humanity in the postwar boom generation, where riches surround all people. However, amidst all the
possessions, we cannot help ourselves and we continuously and relentlessly consume, regardless of
what may happen as a result. We are each trapped in our own banana filled hole, in which Seymour
ultimately escapes from through his death.
In the final short story Teddy , the main character is a ten year old boy who is as intuitive and
intelligent as any character gets in this novel, with the exception of Seymour of course. Like Seymour
Glass, Teddy sees the world differently than his peers. The two tend to focus their a lot of their
attention on small details, such as orange peels, the colour of bathing suits, a woman that seemingly
looks at Seymour s feet, and appear to mirror a larger scale vision of humanity. Teddy s orange peels
recall Seymour s bananafish. Both their objects, in Seymour s case an imaginary one, are somewhat
allegorical in a sense that they seem to suggest a philosophical portrayal of humanity. To clarify,
Teddy first notices the orange peels floating and finds them interesting. The remnants of what was
once a living fruit, now floating, lifeless on the dark water. Later on he notes that, if he had not seen

Cognitive Coaching
The Effects of Cognitive Coaching on Education and in Supporting Teacher Leadership
Creating a profession of teaching in which teachers have the opportunity for continual learning is the
likeliest way to inspire greater achievement for children, especially those for whom education is the
only pathway to survival and success (Sumner, 2011, p. 10). Educators today are required to have a
different set of skills to effectively prepare students to be global competitors in the workplace.
Educators cannot make these alterations in teaching methodology and instructional delivery without
support. Coaches support and encourage teachers, improve teacher strategies, promote teacher
reflection, and focus on desired outcomes (Sumner, 2011). A key ... Show more content on

Cognitive Coaching Supporting Teacher Leadership
Cognitive coaching allows teachers to take ownership of their professional development by
encouraging them to be accountable of their cognitive learning process. The self reflection that is
involved in cognitive coaching coupled with professional vision enables teachers to become a catalyst
of change both in the classroom and beyond.
Patti amp; Holzer (2012) stated:
The coaching relationship provides a safe haven for mindful attention to self change in the areas of
self awareness, self management, social awareness, and relationship management. It is through this
individual process that the teacher and administrative leader positively impact the culture and climate
of the classroom and school (p. 270).
Every teacher has the capabilities to improve their knowledge and skill and cognitive coaching affords
the opportunity of exploration into one s self, challenging old beliefs and habits, emerging a better,
stronger leader. Leadership is not mobilizing others to solve problems we already know how to solve,
but to help them confront problems that have never yet been successfully addressed (Fullan, 2007).
The reflection learned through cognitive coaching helps develop problem solving skills as teachers
examine their experience, generate alternatives, and evaluate actions. Educators need to model risk

Throughout my life I have heard many songs and many of them have remained with me in my

and Michael Jackson. Born in the USA from Bruce Springsteen is the main one because this was the
only song that my dad and I could agree on. His favorite song was Tom Petty s Free Fallin which at
that time I highly disliked; I have learned to like it with time now. And then for Michael Jackson, he

Reflection Of My Family
The photo that I have chosen to reflect on depicts me sitting on a large green chair with my brother. I
was anywhere from five to eight, and he was around eleven or thirteen. He is looking out of frame and
has one of those old CD players from the nineties in his lap, his hands hovering over its silver
hardware, frozen in a hesitant stance. He looks entertained, or maybe just distracted. He has what my
family calls his Harry Potter glasses perched somewhat low on his nose, and true to the late nineties
and early 2000s common style, his black hair is spiked up. Beside him is me, in a light shirt, wearing
the thin headphones that accompanied the CD player in his lap. I look either deep in thought and like I
am taking in the music very thoroughly or very uncomfortable. I will let you in on a hint: I was very
uncomfortable. My brother, Jackson, is six or seven years older than I am. He is rather quiet and
reserved like myself, although it is more obvious on him than it is on me. When we were younger I
was four, my sister was six, and Jackson was eight our father decided that he liked another woman
better than our mother, and left us. Jackson does not like dealing with situations like that, that have
deep emotional repercussions, and more or less shut himself off to the world. That included me. I am
very sensitive on as to whether or not people want to interact with me, and as a baseline, I pretty much
avoid interacting with people unless it is pretty clear that they want me to. I was not as good at it as I
am now when I was young, so I just generally did not interact with anyone at all as a baseline. My
sister and I have always been somewhat close even if she did not like me at all when I was younger
but Jackson and I never talked. I was intimidated. He was so much older than me! He was responsible!
He made good grades! He liked complicated things like cars and he was so well spoken! I remember
when this picture was taken. It was either late Summer or anytime in the Spring. The large chair we
are sitting in had a window to our right, and a door to a backyard to our left and not fifteen feet away
from us. I have always been interested in music, and Jackson has always liked good music, and a few

History of Math in Egypt We use math almost daily in our lives, but how many of us think about the

BC, a base ten counting system that used different symbols such as a stroke for the number one, a heel
bone symbol for 10, a coil of rope for 100, and a lotus plant for 1,000 was developed (Mastin). Base
ten is a numbering system that uses a decimal for any number smaller than one. Once a number
exceeds nine it moves to the next place (the tens place) (Russel). Furthermore, the Egyptians could
also estimate the area of a circle by guessing that if the area of a circle with a diameter of nine units
was close to the area of a square with sides of eight units, that the area of that circle could be
calculated by multiplying the diameter by 8⁄9 and then squaring it (Mastin). In order to find the

have access to clean and safe water (EPA, 2015). It involves all aspects of projects and practices
related to management of water resources and storm water management. 2.0 What can the society do
to achieve sustainable hydrology? Our freshwater resources are limited and face mounting pressures
from drought, flooding, pollution, population growth, and competition from many uses (e.g.,
ecosystem protection, drinking water, agriculture, energy production, recreation) (EPA, 2014). There
is a need therefore for governments at all levels, partnering with communities to develop, encourage

Essay on The Global Economy and the Stages of Recovery
The global economy and the stages of recovery:
As is known, there has been a decline in global GPD growth rates during the last two years due to the
global financial crisis which began in August 2007; it is considered one of the most serious crises
experienced by the global economy since World War II. According to the latest update to the World
Economic Outlook by the International Monetary Fund (January 26, 2010), global GDP growth fell
from 5% p.a. in 2007 to 3.2% in 2008, dropping to .08% by 2009.
According to the report, the world economy has begun to expand again, and there have been
improvements in financial conditions. It is a significant improvement, but it will still take time to
return to where it was in the past. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As can be seen in the capital markets indexes, the indicators fell sharply throughout the world without
exception. This decline led to a loss of confidence among investors.
Currently, the capital markets passed their nadir in the beginning of 2009 and the market has started
recovering from all time lows. In addition, investor confidence has improved, while economies remain
weak, although growth is expected. The majority have in fact returned to growth, albeit only showing
a slight rise.
Experts are split into two camps: the optimistic and the pessimistic, with some experts expecting a
return of the recession while others anticipate recovery.(Revisiting the global crisis,2009)

Essay Bipolar Disorder
Bipolar Disorder
Bipolar disorder, also known as manic depressive illness affects about 1.2 percent of the U.S.
population (8). It is defined by fluctuating states of depression and mania throughout ones life. Those
who are depressed may be restless, irritable, have slowed thinking or speech, decreased sexual
activity, changes in appetite and sleep patterns, suicidal thoughts as well as other changes. Those in a
manic state may have increased activity or energy, more thoughts and faster thinking, grandiose
thoughts, decreased sleep and need for sleep, increased sexual activity, elated mood, irritable mood, as
well as other symptoms. Mixed state is when both depression and mania are exhibited at the same
time in a cycle. Rapid cycling ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The onset of bipolar disorder is usually in late adolescence or early adulthood (7). It is possible for
both children and adolescents to develop the disease as well. This usually happens when there is a
family history for the disease. Children afflicted by bipolar disorder are usually more irritable and
destructive during their manic states and are more prone to mixed states (9). It is even harder to
diagnose bipolar disorder in children because it is often confused with other problems that occur at a
younger age such as attention deficit disorder, conduct disorder, major depression, or schizophrenia
(9).
Where and how bipolar disorder is caused is still a bit of a mystery. Some information is known but
nothing concrete, and a lot of dead ends. Genetic predisposition is one possible cause for bipolar
disorder. The disease usually can be seen throughout a family tree of an affected individual. Twin
studies have been conducted to see if there is a higher chance of identical twins, who have the same
genetic make up, both getting the disease. These have shown that there is an increased likely hood of
one twin to have bipolar disorder if the other has it, but it is not a certainty. The gene for bipolarity has
mainly been traced to chromosome 18 as well as some others. It is uncertain which is responsible
because it has been found in some cases that chromosome 18 is unaffected in bipolar patients. It is
most likely that bipolar disorder is linked

There are characters in the book Belzhar and the movie The Sixth Sense that are different than those around them, which makes them outsiders. The book Belzhar by Meg Wolitzer is about a girl named Jam, which is short for Jamaica, who had a boyfriend and his name was Reeve. Reeve was an exchange student from London. Another character in Belzhar is Sierra. Both Jam and Sierra are considered outsiders because of situations in their lives. But being different from their peers also makes them individual. They are characters who display strength and courage because they do not always go with the crowd. This is a modern example of what experts call The Omnivore s Dilemma . In his book, The Omnivore s Dilemma, Michael Pollan explores different ways of getting the food that you eat. He talks about how our food goes from living to packaged. The book is divided into four parts based on different meal types. Pollan argues that this dilemma is fueled by American s lack of food culture, inability to follow their instincts, and the insane number of choices they face. Pollan s first claim deals with the American food culture, or lack thereof. In his words, We have few rules about what to eat, when to eat, and how to eat. (92). This lack of structure results in food fads , or constant changes in what is perceived to be good for us to eat. Most other places in the world have tradition to fall back on. What furthered the destructive ability of the earthquake was the upthrust and subsidence, which generated a series of massive tsunamis that struck the coast of Honshu. These tsunamis ravaged low lying coastal areas, which led to unmanageable flooding and the meltdown of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant. Japan relies heavily on nuclear power; therefore this became detrimental to local residents and industries relying on this power source. Japan has proved itself somewhat capable to combat biophysical vulnerability with resilience. Japan has employed numerous structural and non structural measures to minimize losses for future hazards. Furthermore, Japan is considered to be one of the world s most successful democracies, and has one of the largest economies. The preparedness of Japan is what reduces vulnerability and probability of risk for future hazardous events, specifically earthquakes (Cutter 530). China Between The Republic Of China After The Chinese Civil War ended in 1950, a separation of old China between the Republic of China (ROC, commonly known as Taiwan ) and the People s Republic of China (PRC, commonly known as China ) created legal and political dilemmas (Hsieh, 2016). They both declare the island of Taiwan is an integral part of their territories. Until the 1990s, Taiwan was able to conquer her diplomatic isolation by expanding the international trade and investment flows to all of her business partners regardless of official government recognitions (Chow, 2016). The nation s per capita income rises from $1,869 to $46,500 in nearly four decades since 1979, higher than that of the United Kingdom. Taiwan is the world s twentieth largest exporter, having the relatively low underclass population (1.5 percent of the population). In 2016, her foreign exchange reserves are estimated to reach the world s top five, at approximately 433.5 billion US Dollar (Waldron, 2016). However, the rapid development of China s economy and her enormous market potentiality give the Chinese government leverages to influence Taiwan s international relationships; in fact, Taiwan s exports to China, Hong Kong, and Macau combine more than one third of her total exports, and Beijing makes no secret of her intention to take advantage of this dependence (Subba, 2016). • 24. Why Polygamy Should Be Legal Could you imagine living in a world where it is acceptable for a man to marry more than one woman and be open about it? A large number cannot and the practice of polygamy is seen as a taboo. The families usually live private lives, and they do not interact with the rest of America due to anti bigamy society we live in. Polygamy is the practice of being married to more than one person at the same time. This is not to be confused with an open relationship or an open marriage. This topic was viewed as controversial for years. As a practice that was not accepted in the public eye, it recently gained more attention with mainstream media and culture. Shows on television such as Sister Wives may pose questions if polygamy should be legally practiced, and it should not be. The stronger actions that law enforcement continues to take against polygamist communities are justified. Women who partake in the practice often times are not old enough or aware enough to be offered a real choice in the polygamist marriage. Furthermore, the young women engaging in the practice makes it illegal. They should be taken out of these environments as well as have the choice to live their lives as they please. Polygamy can equally be seen as a way of oppressing women. The wives are forced to share their husband with multiple women, while addressing the husband as their leader . Polygamous unions nonetheless are still thriving in present day America as of 2015. These communities are allowed to live ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Differences can be seen in the way they achieved their political power and how they dealt with their political opponents. Vladimir Lenin achieved his political power by rallying fellow Bolsheviks to seize government installations and storm the capital. The plan made Lenin the visible figurehead of the Bolsheviks and the new government that was put into place. Through this purge, Stalin solidified his control over the communist party and the country. Lenin differed by allowing his Bolshevik opponents to remain in their posts, but was mindful of their activities. He took action to prevent these opponents from ousting him form power. This action can be seen when Lenin, weary of his opponents turning to the Romanov family for leadership had the entire family executed. A similar characteristic that both of these leaders shared was their refusal to share power. This can be seen in Stalin s accumulation of powers as the general secretary, which lead to his complete control of the country. Lenin also maintained this trait as he actively tried to subvert the leftist that had opposed the coup before it had occurred. I think that if Lenin had lived another twenty years that the country may have had a completely different government in place. Thus, our own culture has a deep impact on our thoughts and behaviors. Since each culture has its distinct aspects, intercultural communication can be the cause of conflict and disorder. In addition to differences in pronunciation, vocabulary and grammatical structures among cultural groups, variations also exist in the rules for general discourse in oral communication, covering such specific acts as narratives and conversation. In communicating with one another, teachers and students naturally will follow the assumptions and rules governing discourse within their respective cultures. Discourse rules govern such aspects of communication as: opening or closing conversations; taking turns during conversations; interrupting; using silence as a communicative device; interjecting humor at appropriate times and using nonverbal behavior.
