Bees Vs Honey Bees
When you are stung by a bee for the first time you won t have a severe allergic reaction, even if you
first reaction is mild the reactions get worse with each sting you receive from the bee. Most bees can
sting more than once, but it depends on the type of bee it is. Honey bees for example die after the first
sting they give you. Only female bees and wasp can sting you because venom pumped from attached
venom sacs, is injected into the victim through stylus. When a bee or wasp stings you, the lancets
become imbedded in your skin. They pull the stylus into your flesh and the venom sacs pump venom
through your body. Different kinds of bees live in different habitats. The bumble bee often nests in the
ground even though they can sometimes be

Comparing Heroes In Beowulf And The Knight s Tale
Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man s character, give him power. Abraham
Lincoln. Fictional or nonfictional stories often reflect a strong hero. However, has anyone noticed, the
longer heroes remain in power the less heroic they become? The Fictional stories of Beowulf, and The
Knight s Tale, and the nonfictional story of king David, are examples of these so called heroes . These
stories prove that the longer a hero is in power, the less heroic they become.
The Knight s Tale depicts a character named Theseus. Theseus is considered by some to be a hero
because he helped overthrow bad leadership in many kingdoms, including the land of Athens. After
helping Athens, he became their king. Theseus was a good and wise king for many years. However, as
we advance through the story, Theseus makes decisions that hurt his kingdom. When two outlawed
knights begin to fight over the princess of Athens, he does not throw them in prison, does not banish
them, and does not tell them, Take this fight somewhere else, so nobody gets hurt . Instead, he ...

David showed loyalty, faith, leadership, talent, and bravery. He was known as a wise ruler and a great
worrier. In the same way, anyone who knows the bible probably knows about the sins David
committed. Instead of going into war with his men, David stayed home and did not fight. That poor,
cowardly decision led to the sin of adultery with Bathsheba, killing her husband, trying to cover up his
sins, and not following God s commands as king. David transformed into a bad father. David
transformed into an inconsiderate king. David transformed into an unacceptable hero. His decisions
revolved around himself instead of his people. As David s power grew, so did his opportunities to sin.
David grew to be a self centered and corrupt king. The longer David was in power the more selfish he
became. He was no longer the hero he used to

Texas Constitution Vs. U.s. Constitution
Texas is considered a very diverse and unique state in many different aspects. It is the second largest
state with more than twenty six million people residing. People all over the state live in a variety of
environments, cities, suburbs, rural areas, you name it. Of course though, like in everything else, there
are always both positive and negative things. However, despite the fact that Texas have very high
poverty rates and it has the second highest income inequality, Texas is a very interesting state and it
has a lot of things that are worth learning about. I learned some things about Texas politics that I
thought were very interesting. These topics include the State Constitution and the legislature. The
Texas Constitution and the U.S. Constitution is very similar to each other in terms of structure. Both
documents provide framework, and the amendments come from the will of the people. The Texas
Constitution was written to govern the the individual state alone so it should be more specific and less
flexible to change. On the other hand, the U.S Constitution is more flexible than the Texas
Constitution because of the fact that it was designed to be governing a total of fifty states with each
individual states differing from others in values, beliefs, attitudes, behaviors, and the states consist of
individuals who have similar values. Today, we are still operating under the 1876 Constitution with
four hundred ninety one amendments, which includes a preamble and seventeen

Abc Technology As A Human Resource Director
With projected growth within the next two years for ABC technology being 50% it s important to
bring in a strong human resource director who can handle the changes that will need to take place for
ABC technology to be successful. Change is inevitable and n eeds to be placed within trustworthy
hands. This is where I as a human resource director step in to bring the organizations goals to fruition.
Currently ABC technology is experiencing staffing, high turnover rates, and retention issues. These
issues are costing the company financially and taking ABC technology further from reaching its
organizational goals. As human resource director, it is my job to identify the causes of these issues as
well as develop a plan to combat these issues. With a plan in place the company can get back on track
to reaching its organi zational goals. The plan will involve designing policies to address issues as well
as prevent issues. In order to be effective, t hese policies need to be clearly communicated to ensure
alignment of e very employee towards the same goal (Conation, 2014) . As the human resources
director I act as a strategic partner with the company by overseeing many facets of the organization
and by essentially bei ng the oil that keeps the gears of the organization sl ick and moving smoothly.
The human resource director always has the company s best interest in mind. This includes all the
employees as well, because without happy employees the company will not thrive. Human

Reason Vs Instinct Research Paper
Which Is Superior : Reason or Instinct? Ideas pull the trigger, but instinct loads the gun. Don Marquis
explains the superiority of reason over instinct. Without reason, many of the things people choose
wouldn t be logical, and can lead to devastating consequences. Generally, reason can lead to positive,
or at least logical decisions. Reason undeniably overrules instinct because of the logical choices,
reliability, and the wider variety of possibilities it can result in. To begin, reason can definitely be
more probable over instinct, especially in life or death situations. For example, in The Most
Dangerous Game, General Zaroff exclaimed, The animal had nothing but his legs and his instinct.
Instinct is no match for reason. When I thought ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Reason helps grow the amount of possibilities with the expansion of knowledge from previous
mistakes. It also shows a trustworthy reliability in specific situations, such as a school shooting.
Finally, it proves to be more probable, because humanity is able to discover different ways to survive,
letting them live longer than those living based on their instinct. The quote, Ideas pull the trigger, but
instinct loads the gun, written by Don Marquis, can clearly explain how reason is able to choose ,
between who lives and who dies, thus proving its superiority to

Identity And Access Management For Hdos
Identity and Access Management for HDOs
Health Delivery Organizations (HDOs) are continuously confronted with handling a large amount of
sensitive patient information. These organizations must have the capability to protect patient privacy
and the integrity of their personal information, and yet be able to share the information with clinicians
and staff that have a legal need for the information to provide due care. HDO s are also under pressure
to increase the effectiveness of their regulatory compliance processes for HIPAA, HITECH,
Meaningful Use, PCI, and others.
As HDOs expand, merge and evolve to keep up with the requirements of maintaining electronic
healthcare records (EHR) and electronic protected health information (ePHI), ... Show more content

This increase of sensitive data available online, commonly accessed through usernames and
passwords, has produced a dramatic jump in healthcare information compromised by data breaches. In
2015, the IRTC reported that a staggering 66.7% of all records compromised in data breaches were in
the healthcare industry; in 2014, this number was only 9.7%.
....more of a challenge as we lose control of the perimeter with business going digital, mobile and into
the cloud.
The potential vulnerabilities within a Health Delivery Organizations (HDOs) are numerous. The
impact of exploitation of the can be enormous. It s not only that the information will be damaged,
stolen, or misused; the actual or implied theft of improperly protected electronic data can result in
extortion threats. The cost and distraction of a hacker s extortion demand that threatens to shut down
an entity s system or to expose confidential information can be significant. In addition to the direct
costs related to the extortion demand, a facility can have major expenses, including those for the
required notification of patients related to the real or threatened release of their identity information.
Many states require companies to notify all of their customers if a breach is even suspected. The
potential for exploitation does not stop there. Consider any of the following scenarios, note that some
do not even require access to personal information, a hacker just needs to get access:

Comparing Loman And A Raisin In The Sun
A Life Lived by Half Although it is overlooked the majority of the time, a woman s underlying
sacrificial struggle, lived and experienced by approximately half of the human population, has been
covertly eminent. Women must confront within themselves the expectations and viewpoints of society.
Both Arthur Miller s Death of a Salesman and Lorraine Hansberry s A Raisin in the Sun provide
coinciding portrayals of women by explaining their societal roles, handling of circumstances,
character, and external depictions. In terms of being categorized as female, a woman must manage
both the circumstances at hand and her societal roles. Willy Loman, an arguably proud man,
acknowledges a woman s role as a spouse when he addresses Linda Loman as [his] ... Show more

Although they adamantly strive to be independent and liberated individuals, women are not liberated
at all because [they] talk about it too much (Hansberry 64). Women themselves divulge their own
weakness because they formulate a false notion of autonomy. Their error is that they prefer a feeling
of liberation rather than liberation itself. Despite being subject to men s mistreatment and life s
suffering, a woman will sacrifice and do anything for her family (Hansberry 75). Men have at many
times verbally abused women and suppressed their opinions, but that does not impede women from
sacrificing everything for the people they love. Women are portrayed positively because they display
strength and perseverance. In contrast, Willy Loman considers his wife a burden when he expresses
the idea that the woman has suffered (Miller 99). Women are now portrayed negatively because they
are described as weak and fragile. This portrayal is unjustified because Willy Loman has had more
lamentations while Linda Loman has defended his social standing. Although providing a portrayal for
women is largely a subjective evaluation, one cannot deny a woman s character and sacrifices. A
Raisin in the Sun and Death of a Salesman contain reasonable depictions of the struggle that a woman
undergoes as she contends with her identity. As works that essentially describe features associated

Comparing Killings And Greasy Lake
Stories may be different, but they all have at least one thing in common. Whether they have the same
theme or not, all stories are drawn together by interesting topics to keep the reader s attention. The
three short stories used in this comparison are Killings by Andres Dubus, Cons by Jess Walter and
Greasy Lake by T. Coraghessan Boyle. Although written by different authors all stories deal with
killings and death.
The first story, Killings the main character Matt Fowler, goes on a rampage with Strout, the man who
murdered his youngest son Frank. In Cons the main character Kyle is constantly reliving the memory
of killing a teenage girl. The last story, Greasy Lake a group of dumb teenage boys think they killed a

young girl s father sends him notes reminding him of what he did. He feels guilty for ending a life.

Tranquille Berbiguier s, Trio in B flat Major, Op. 51, No. 1 was performed next. It was much shorter

The movie Blackfish is a documentary of the story of Tilikum, a captive killer whale that has taken
several lives, exploits the issues amongst the sea park industry, and illustrates how little is known

commonalities with that of Blacks in America. The film touches on commonalities that can be
generalized in comparison with slavery: family, captivity, sound and language, natural and captured

The Pervasiveness Of Media In Contemporary US Culture
Indeed, the pervasiveness of media in its copious forms in contemporary US culture today is
undeniable. Almost anywhere one looks, one can find media; a magazine at a doctor s office, a
billboard alongside a freeway, a painting at an art gallery, a performance on television or on stage.
Media, undeniably, is ubiquitous. However, in the innumerous forms media comes to us in, every one
of these forms are created for a purpose; to communicate of an idea or message. But how are students,
as well as educators, supposed to interact and interpret media? Auspiciously, just as with any subject
of study, one must become literate in its forms and uses. Thus, media literacy is a vital tool set for
interacting and interpreting content of any discipline; particularly history education. Certainly, media
literacy seeks to teach fluency in the forms of media, how it functions and can influence trends in
society. However, media and its messages are not a direct form of communication. Media does not
offer a transparent window, as Buckingham writes, only a representation of an idea (Buckingham,
2004. p. .) Further, this representation of an idea or message, as Hoechsmann Poyntz write, always
involve(s) a reflection, selection and deflection of reality (Hoechsmann Poyntz, 2012, p. 73). Thus, to
achieve fluency with media, the goal of media literacy is to develop personal agency within an
individual. Personal agency, as defined by Buckingham, is the ability to be an active

The School For Prison Pipeline
Tomorrow s future is in the hands of the youth of today is not a particularly new sentiment. But what
is new, what has become a pressing question, is what is to become of the future if our youth are behind
bars instead of in schools? Youth today are being pushed into the criminal justice system at an
alarming rate. This issue is known as the school to prison pipeline ─ the rapid rate at which children
are pushed out of schools and into the criminal justice system. The school to prison pipeline is a term
that came into use by activists in the late 1970 s and has gained recognition throughout the years as the
issue became more prominent in the 1990 s. Some activists view policies meant to correct
misbehaviors, especially in regards to Zero Tolerance policies and the policing of schools, as a major
contributor to the pipeline. Others believe that the funding of schools and the education standards are
to blame for the rapid increase of youth incarcerations. While the school to prison pipeline affects
every student, African American students, both male and female, are more often the victim of
discrimination in education. The school to prison pipeline must end, and the trend must be reversed.
Proponents of change have noted that the school to prison pipeline has been perpetrated by harsh
discipline guidelines and policies placed in schools. Russell J. Skiba, Ph.D., a Professor in Counseling
and Educational Psychology at Indiana University, defined Zero Tolerance policies as

Theme Of Hiroshima Mon Amour
In this essay I will be comparing two films, Hiroshima mon
amour by Alain Resnais, and Level 5 by Chris Marker. I will
discuss the similarities and differences between them, going
through the plot, the cinematography and the theme of each
movie. I will also talk about the protagonists, actions,
technical stuff, and how these are aimed at each film s target
audience.
First of all, I would like to represent each movie.
Hiroshima mon amour is a 1959 drama film, directed by French
film director Alain Resnais. The movie is about a French actress
who s making an anti war film in the once devastated, but now
rebuilt city of Hiroshima, begins an intense affair with a
Japanese architect, the one who becomes her lover and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Resnais did a great job in mixing the
structure of his movie. He merged the past and the present,
using a poetic dialogue and a subjective use of sound. All of
this made his film a study of time and memory and the
devastation wrought by war. Alain used interplay of opposites
throughout the film: war and peace, sex and death, past and
present, reality and memory (using flashbacks), France and
Japan... He focused on his main character Her how she s
recollecting her own tragic experiences and relating them to the
war. For example, we see the hand of Him when he was sleeping
evokes her German lover s hand as he lay dead on the ground. So
the relationship between time and memory is a central theme of
this film.
Indeed, the techniques he perfected in a decade of
documentary production like the charming tracking shots that
envelope the viewer in the environment, carefully composed close
ups of faces and designing the light on them, the editing and
the poetic voice overs are used in a brilliant way in his movie.
Moreover, Resnais reveals unforgettable visual elements that
connected the viewer to the space of the movie, from the

Comparing Fairbairn s Motivation Behind His Departure...
nd contrast Fairbairn s motivation behind his departure from Freud s structural model and
development of object relation s theory
Introduction
It is widely accepted that Sigmund Freud coined the term Psychoanalysis.
Within this he derived a number of models over the period of his life to explain how the psyche
operates and from where trauma originates, which subsequently led to the development of
psychoanalysis.
Ronald Fairbairn was a lecturer at the University of Edinburgh teaching medicine where he
incorporated his extensive knowledge of Freud s structural model in his lectures. It was during this
time that uncertainties provoked Fairbairn to questions the accuracy of the structural model and
initiated Fairbairn s quest to find an alternative theory, which later led to him becoming one of the key
contributors to Object relations theory along side, Melanie Klein, and D.W Winnicott. (Object
relations theory and practice An introduction, David E. Scharff, pg 5 1996)
This essay will compare and contrast some of the key reasons for Fairbairn s departure from Freud s
Structural model and drive theory and look at the theory behind object relations and how it is used in
therapy today.

Freud s structural model illustrates that within every individual there is tripartite structure consisting
of the Id, Ego and Super Ego.

The Male Gaze . In 1975, feminist film critic Laura Mulvey in her 1975 essay entitled Visual Pleasure
and Narrative Cinema defined a new phrase the Male Gaze . Mulvey explained the phrase as a filter
that is placed onto various mediums such as film that depict the world and women from a masculine
point of view and in terms of men s male dominance over women . This gaze according to Mulvey,
sexualizes and objectifies the woman . The male gaze also affects how women see themselves and
how they act in public.
The male gaze consists of three different gazes:

It is indeed a beautiful evening, all soaked in the Pune theme. The decoration outside, the ambience
and the Puneri Pathiya . Thank you all for this enthusiasm and spirit of togetherness . We are at the
junction where a chapter closes and a new one begins. It is overwhelming that we now count 7 years
from the inception of the school. What a journey it has been with each year having its own triumphs
and struggles and yet unique it many ways.
We grew from 24 students to 880 and 30 staff members to 120 now and still counting. Next year we
have Nursery to Class IX with 983 students as of today.

This gave birth to the Empolyee Excellence Awards . The award is a visible way acknowledgement
and appreciation I am proud to announce the awardees for this year in various categories (this sounds
like some film fare awards)
This in no way undermines the work and effort of the others. It only helps to point out exemplary
performance just that one extra mile. I believe one of the best indication for good work is when
children and parents come with a request end of the year (which happens often) that we want the same
teacher next year.(recent example). This gesture itself is a reward for a teacher. And for the school,
when children continue. It shows all is well or almost all is well .
Thank you for your continued trust and faith. Let me now invite our stalwarts Siddesh and Sakshi
school captians for the year 2010 11 to take us through a visual journey of the year gone by capsuling
most events, activities and happenings.
Thank you both. That was great. The highlights of the year all put in a plate. The energy this year was
palpable. We set our own standards, strived to reach them and elevated ourselves to higher planes. The
learning, the evolving and the effort will never cease.
The year as every other, was exciting, challenging and invigorating. Some days were endless stream of
emergencies and urgencies which came unannounced. Each giving scope to learn, question, to reflect

The Term, Image Of God
Introduction: The term image of God occurs three times in the Bible. In Genesis 1:26 27 and 9:6, we
find out that man is created in the image of God. In 2 Cor. 4:4 we see the phrase used in reference to
Jesus who is the image of God. There is no exact understanding of what the phrase means, but we can
generalize. It would seem that the first two verses refer to God s character and attributes that are
reflected in people. The term cannot be a reference to a physical appearance of God since Jesus says in
John 4:24 that God is Spirit, and in Luke 24:39 Spirit does not have flesh and bones. Therefore, we
can conclude that the image of God deals with humanity s reflection of God in such things as
compassion, rationality, love, hatred, fellowship, etc. God exhibits all of these characteristics, as do
people. Example 1: A good starting point is to respect others because God said to. For example, we
read in the Bible that husbands and wives are to respect their spouse and the wife must respect her
husband Ephesians 5:33. Husbands, in the same way are considerate as you live with your wives, and
treat them with respect 1 Peter 3:7. The same principle applies to other relationships. Peter wrote that
we should show respect to everyone. You can respect your spouse, child, parent, boss or others
because of their position. Acknowledge that others have weaknesses. Everyone is imperfect. Be
careful not to let their failures erode your respect for their good qualities. Look for things

Summary Of A Worn Path By Eudora Welty

Book Review
A Worn Path by Eudora Welty
The author, Eudora Welty was an award winning American author who wrote short stories and novels
about the American South. Her first short story appeared in 1936, and gradually she began to e
published in small, then regional and general circulation magazines. She published collections of her
short stories and began publishing novels as well. She was the first living author to have her works
published by the library of America.
A Worn Path written by Eudora Welty is an interesting short story about an elderly African American
woman walking through the woods into town, and the story is also heaving with symbolism and
several themes. First and the most obvious symbol in the story A Worn Path is the Phoenix and
Phoenix Jackson s comparison to the mythological bird, the Phoenix. Phoenix is a mythological bird
that is said to live 500 years or more than 500 years, die in flames and rise again from the ashes. Just
as the Phoenix bird has a cycle of life, death and rebirth, Phoenix Jackson takes a dangerous journey
through the woods n her life time.
Phoenix Jackson is an old, old woman. Actually we do not know exactly how old she is, but we could
know that she is small and frail that have mention from the story, when a black dog comes out of the

The Negative Effects Of Dropping The Dropouts In Schools
Dropping the Dropouts
Nelson Mandela once said, Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the
world. It is difficult to prevent temptation within the student population when it comes to the harmful
aspects of our society and the effect it has. Most students strive to be cool or popular or simply fit in
when they attend grade school. Although not all students fall into the wrong path, every student
deserves assistance and the opportunity to grow and prosper. In the Pasadena Independent School
District (PISD) about 90% of the students are minorities. Meanwhile, in 2015 the highest percentage
of drop outs within ethnic groups was 9.6%; it belonged to a minority. Although minorities tend to
have higher dropout rates, there are nonprofit organizations established such as the Communities In
Schools After school Centers on Education program (CIS ACE). As an employee of this particular
organization, I can confirm that our main focus is student success in the Pasadena ISD. Regardless of
all the positive effects is has within our community and the hard work we put toward the program, it is
no longer receiving a grant to furthermore continue this program even though it is evident that
students in Pasadena ISD would be benefitted more than most compared to other school districts. This
is because there is not enough support from the administrators in the district and because those who
distribute the grants deliberately decided to give it to another district.

The goal of the project was to make computer networking easier for client.
Access and Organize
In the initial phase, our team accessed the requirements of the project that was going was to be

nature according to the implementation required of the project. The emphasis was on choosing the
right mix of technology and ease of implementation. The strategy formulation was based on the using
the optimum skills and talent available with the team.
In organize phase, the strategy was to collect as much information as required for making the project.
The team that was used for making the project is required to make important note of assessment and
organization, as to how the project is going to be planned as well as executed.
Strategic Planning
In strategic planning phase, the important element that was required for team was to go toward the
main core reason for which the project was conceptualized and that was making computer networking
easier for client. In this our team developed a strategic plan for implementing the solution. This
included dividing the work among all the team members according to the talent of the team members

Baruch Spinoza s Anti Anthroponcentric View Essay
When Baruch Spinoza composed his philosophical masterpiece, the Ethics, he knew that his ideas
(particularly those of God) would be considered heretical in the extreme, leading to any number of
unpleasant consequences. This was the reason that the Ethics were published in 1677, posthumously
(p.97)1. His apprehensions are well justified in the light of what he writes in the Appendix (p.145 149)
to Part1: Concerning God (p.129 145) regarding the prejudices present in the minds of human beings.
For, it is here that Spinoza directly challenges the prevalent religious orthodoxy and seeks to remove
the very dogma that was the basis of their power. Spinoza asserts in the Appendix (p.145) that there
exist certain prejudices in the minds ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(p.145). The argument regarding (1) above, is undoubtedly the most crucial and (not surprisingly) the
most heretical of Spinoza s unabashed critique of contemporary religion. The (main) reason for (1)
turns out to be (as we shall see) the creation of God in the image of Man by people in their vain
attempts to understand the nature of the Universe. This anthropomorphisation of God and the parallel
anthropocentric view of the universe, is in essence what Spinoza concludes to be the reason for (1).
The argument follows shortly (based upon p.145 6). The key to answering (1) above, is what Spinoza
calls The Doctrine of Final Causes (henceforth referred to simply as the Doctrine ). This doctrine is
essentially the process by which the above creation takes place. Firstly, people come into being
without definite knowledge of causal relationships between things. Further, they have a strong belief
in the freedom of their own will, and this belief arises from their conscious knowledge of their desires
and from what they perceive as their (essentially) unstoppable drive in fulfilling them. Also, they have
no inclination to investigate the cause for these desires to exist in the first place. Finally (Spinoza
says), people are always focussed on their final goals,

Buzz Marketing As A Viral Marketing Tool
Buzz marketing is a viral marketing tactic that is the interaction of consumers focused on maximizing
the word of mouth potential of a particular campaign, product or service, exaggerating or sometimes
modifying the original message. The emotion, excitement and brand facts are transmitted through
conversations between consumers friends, family or the mass audience through word of mouth and
use of social media platforms. (Rouse)
Buzz marketing is a different approach to marketing than the traditional marketing strategies with use
of radio, out of home, print or television. Traditional mass marketing entails advertising to the mass
market with a goal of converting a portion of those consumers to a brand. Buzz marketing is all about
word of mouth, and leverages, not simply the power of the trendsetter, but also the power of wanting
to be the trendsetter . (Walker,2004). Marketers activate buzz marketing as an effective, perceived
unbiased message to gain trust and loyalty among consumers. Tremor feels that buzz marketing is the
most effective way for a message to travel through networks of real people communicating with
others. (Walker, 2004). The early starters that are originally targeted by marketers are the key to the
message traveling from their internal circle to eventually penetrating the mass market. Word of mouth
is not just successful when communication occurs between friends and family members, but
acquaintances as well. To crate buzz marketers target

Argumentative Essay On Maternity Leave
While doing some research, I have learned that maternity leave has become quite an issue. In Virginia,
we do not have a state law that specifically requires employers to offer pregnancy leave. Although, we
do have the Human Rights Act that must provide some leave for those women who are disabled by
pregnancy. Being disabled by pregnancy means that you can no longer do certain activities so that the
mother can deliver safely and care for the newborn. In America, the U.S. has a policy, The Family and
Medical leave Act of 1993. It is mandating 12 weeks of unpaid leave annually. Unfortunately, only
four states have paid maternity leave. The four states are California, New Jersey, Massachusetts, and
Rhode Island. California and New Jersey gives you 6 weeks and Rhode Island gives you only 4
weeks. Research has shown that women in the United States are more likely to drop out of work force
voluntarily due to lack of time with the infant and stress. After just looking at maternity leave in
America, I decided to branch out and do other countries. I wanted to compare the difference between
the two. Upon doing some research I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Rectification Of Cameras Captured Documents Images For...
Rectification of camera captured document images for Camera based OCR technology Abstract Due
to the rapid progress in digital cameras industry, camera captured documents becomes as another
possibility or choice for document capturing and understanding for OCR applications. However,
image quality degradations arising from the image acquisition process have severe effect on these
applications. The distortion results from digital camera may take the shape of skew, perspective
distortion or geometric distortion. We propose fully automatic preprocessing techniques to enhance
the digital camera captured images to improve the performance of OCR applications. Our algorithms
depend on the features of the text lines and letters and do not need any especial equipment.
Experimental results on a real camera captured images demonstrate 10~15 % enhancement in current
commercial OCR packages. 1. Introduction Textual content in books, newspapers and articles have
been traditionally digitized using scanners and read with the help of optical character recognition
(OCR). Recent technical advances in digital cameras have led the OCR community to consider using
them instead of scanners for document capture. Compared with the scanner, the digital camera is quite
easier to use, being able to capture images from any viewpoint. Cameras can be easily integrated with
portable computing devices such as PDAs, cell phones, or media players. Together, these factors
contribute to the growing interest

Essay about Like Water For Chocolate by Laura Esquivel
Like Water For Chocolate The film, Like Water for Chocolate, represents a story through
incorporating the idea of food as feelings and expressing the woman s roles during the Mexican
Revolution. The film is a romantic comedy showing many joking ways of hard times and soft issues
and the way of life. The most striking and theme seems to be how women seem to be in charge rather
then males; during this time period, I thought that men were more likely to be the head of the
household and in charge.
Throughout the film, the main overall theme is that a woman had an illegitimate daughter with
someone while she was married, her husband left her, and she was alone with three girls and the
youngest, Tita, was to never marry because she was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To take light of the film there were many comical parts, that seemed unlikely considering the nature of
the film. When Tita cooked, her feelings came through in her food. She felt bad when her sister
married, so when she made her cake, everyone became sick. Rosura always had gas from what Tita
made to eat and bad breath. Tita received roses from Pedro, she made quail and rose petal soup to
show him her love and then everyone who ate it was having almost sexual feelings. It was ridiculous
to comprehend because everyone was feeling how she was though her food and no one gets like that
in real life.
Tita s sister Gertrudis, ran off with revolutionaries and her mother basically sinned her and made
everyone forget of her existence. She burned pictures, papers and her birth certificate to make it
official, she also told her two daughters to not have any contact with her. Gertrudis comes back later in
the film to show another comical part, she s now a general for the revolutionaries. She orders one of
the soldiers around, like a man, but yet she is a woman. This is putting another woman s role into a
different hand, because I ve never heard of any women being generals or anywhere high in the ranks.
None of her soldiers are female, she is the only one within the group, yet she is the general, if the
mother only knew! The mother dies in the film because of her stubborness. She doesn t like the

The Portrayal of Television Violence in the U.S. Programs and Its Impact on Viewers
Introduction
Over the past one three decades, there have been cases of increased child violence as well as adult
conflicts. Many theories have been developed to explain this growing trend in the society. Media
violence has been one of the factors considered.
There has been continuous research with regards to the relationship that exists between media
violence s and the behavior of the viewers. Some of this research has focused on children and
teenagers. Despite most of them indicating the absence of a strong relationship with real life violence,
there have been proof that it affects other aspects such educational performance and social
relationships.
The contextual features of violence portrayals and their input on viewers are depicted in a number of
ways. These include:
 Justification: the society and the media sponsors seek to justify the violence scenes in programs
with the demand for entertainment. This has been a major point of conflict.
 The consequence of violence: the impact of violence in the media on the society is taken lightly
among many groups. The argument made by some individuals is that its impacts are mostly on young
children, and the effects fade away as they grow.
 Violence portrayal with humor: this has been the trend in presenting media violence. Violence in
movies, video games and general programs has been

America Vs Airplane
I disagree with this statement, as consumers we don t only value the invention based on how hard it is
made, but how useful it is. we could conclude this by looking at the current invention for example:
Viagra vs airplane. The wright brothers (Wilbur and Orville) invented airplane in 17, December 1903.
They both was first inspired by birds, they observe that birds angled their wings for balance and
control, and tried to apply the same principle to their design and call it wing wrapping . Not long after
that they invented moveable rubber that is able to react like the birds wing and they discovered
airplane. With this method Wilbur is able to fly for 59 seconds at 852 feet. This have been an

I don t think that it is necessary for us to see it in this perspective, we value things based on its effect
towards us, not just based on how easy or hard it takes to invent it. It would seems quite unfair we
value things based on the result instead of the process like for example: the wright brother put so
much effort towards it and finally their work paid off. In the other hand the Viagra pills they also give
much effort in researching and its effect toward the human body. Even thought the result is not as
expected, but his invention doesn t make us value one more than the other. In conclusion, people
based value toward the invention based on its effect towards us. Some people value airplane more than
Viagra maybe because they travel a lot, or inverse probably because they think it is more beneficial for
them. But this does not mean the knowledge we achieve through difficulty is what we truly value.
What we truly value is its benefit towards us and that is the true measurement of value, instead of
measuring through the process we rather measure it though the advantage towards

Panda Bear Or Giant Panda
Pandas
The panda bear or giant panda is located in the south central area of China. It is recognized for its
appearance. It belongs to the Carnivore group even though it eats 99% bamboo. Pandas found in the
wild will eat other grasses, wild tubers, or meat in the form of birds, rodents, or carrion. Pandas in
captivity receive honey, eggs, fish, yams, shrub leaves, oranges, bananas, or other specially prepared
foods. Pandas live in mountain ranges because deforestation has driven them from lowland areas. The
panda is an endangered species. According to a 2007 report, there are 239 pandas living in captivity in
China, 27 pandas living outside the country, and 1,590 pandas living in the wild. The panda bear is a
great symbol in China. This animal is noticed because it is on the endangered species list.
The red panda, though it shares the name of panda, is not a bear. It is more closely related to a raccoon
or skunk and is an endangered species. This panda is called the red panda, lesser panda, or red cat
bear. This animal is not closely related to the giant panda or panda bear. This is an animal that is
adorable and cuddly looking but it also is so much larger than it appears.
Cultural Symbolism:
The panda bear is not only a fluffy creature it is also symbolic to China. The panda can symbolize
friendship and peace. The colors on the panda help resemble the Yin Yang by showing how the two
colors can mix and with the pandas nature it backs this up. The panda is really peaceful

Project Bioshield And Keeping America Safe
Project Bioshield and Keeping America Safe
Now in this day and age biological threats and warfare are at an risk of all time high and the Project
Bioshield Act will protect the United States of America from these threats. On July, 10, 2010, the
House of Representatives created a bill that would withdraw two billion dollars from Project Bioshield
to pay for a boost in development for other federal programs. Even though the money was not cut
from Project Bioshield it showed us that the project is in danger of not getting the amount of money it
really needs to protect the United States of America. The United States government should invest
more money into Project BioShield in order to keep Americans safe from upcoming biological threats.
Project Bioshield will protect the citizens of the United States of America safe from biological threats

Both were created in the 1970 s by the African American and Puerto Rican people in New York. The
music originally incorporated the Rhythms of salsa, Afro conga, bongo drums, jazz and funk and
became more popular outside of the African American community around the 1980 s. Although some

I think the most important thing is to keep an open mind. The great fashion industry has taken over the
hip hop culture and evolved over time. People like Ralph lauren, Calvin Klein, and Tommy Hilfiger
tapped into hip hop culture and gave very little in return. It first consisted of baggy shirts, sagging
pants and jerseys. Then people like Jay Z linked up with brands like louis vuitton to create their own
fashion lines. The clothes got tighter, classically fashionable and much more expensive. Clothing will
always evolve with the dancers and music to fit the style of that era. Hip Hop dancing has multiple
different styles that can be put together or left alone to form a unique dance. There is Break, Popping,
Locking, Krumping, Freestyle and Novelty. Break was the first hip hop dance and is classified as one
of the five pillars of hip hop culture. It was created in the 1970 s and made popular by the dance
crews. Dance crews were sometimes called B Boys as in break boys and B Girls as in break girls. It
was practiced in both studios and on the streets. The dance was created in New York and incorporated
dances from african and latino communities.

Theme Of Hospitality In Beowulf
By demonstrating how the benign exchange of hospitality changes into a vicious cycle of assault and
retaliation and how it ultimately leads to tragedy, Beowulf makes a point about the limits of
hospitality, whereby nothing short of death can end the cycle of obligation. The world of Beowulf is
constructed upon the rules of hospitality and requisites of reciprocity. As Marcel Mauss asserts, there
are no free gifts. Regardless of time and place, a gift of any sort obliges a person to reciprocate the
present that has been received (Mauss 9). While it might appear so, Beowulf s arrival at the shores of
Denmark to proffer his help to Hrothgar to kill the monsters is not a simple act of selflessness. He
partakes in a system of exchange that underlies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Heardred s mistake in offering hospitality to the sons of Ohthere results in him being mortally
rewarded with wounds from a sword (2386). Onela s treatment of Heardred s hospitality as treachery
results in a cruel parody of hospitable exchange: a fatal sequence of assault and revenge. The fate of
Heardred also serves to reaffirm that hospitality in this poem can never wholly seal itself from
treachery and peril. Later on, in his report to King Hygelac after returning to Geatland, Beowulf
speaks of how Hrothgar attempts to make peace between the Danes and Heathobards by marrying his
daughter Freawaru to Ingel. In spite of the feud between the two sides, the Heathobards are obliged to
host and entertain the Danes since a Danish princess is marrying the Heathobard king. But as Beowulf
mentions, the spear / is prompt to retaliate when a prince is killed (2029 30). Paradoxically, the system
of reciprocity here becomes a source of both Heathobards hospitality (as host) as much as their desire
to retaliate against the Danes. Ultimately, the force of grievances outweighs the bond established
through the offering of the bride as a gift: a guest who wears the heirloom snatched from the host s
father has betrayed hospitality, which invites retaliation from the host. This suggests the limitations of
hospitality as a principle of socio economic

Critically Examine the Geopolitics of Humanitarian Aid...
Critically examine the geopolitics of humanitarian aid within the 21st century.
How have responses to famine changed over time and what are the key challenges to famine
prevention today?
Geopolitics have played a huge role in humanitarian aid in the current century. Because humanitarian
aid is largely sponsored by western countries it poses a huge problem in the form of a parochial form
of theorizing 1 that supports the interests of the richest countries of the world. For the purpose of this

aid assistance. This arises from conditional aid, whereby donor countries or organizations impose

In cases such as Iraq and Afghanistan the United States military assumed a huge role for the
distribution of disaster and humanitarian assistance alongside their military objectives. If foreign
militaries are carrying out humanitarian aid alongside military objectives, then there is no way that aid
can be supplied to whoever is in need in ways that are impartial, neutral and independent. This new
system whereby foreign militaries are responsible for supplying aid has created huge security
problems for not only the military, but for the people who are receiving aid. Opposing factions to
foreign military time and time again in Afghanistan and Iraq have targeted civilians receiving aid to
further their own agenda. 7
These are the problems that exist in the humanitarian aid industry today, but these problems have
developed over a course of many years and responses to famine and humanitarian disasters have

existed, the geopolitics was more focused on the cold war and respecting the sovereignty of nation
states. Although crisis in Africa, East Pakistan and Guatemala (to name a few) were made aware

cogeneration and the waste heat recovered is stored in a battery which is utilized to produce hot water
even in
the absence of sunlight. The thermodynamic properties of the system were analyzed and calculated.
The
second law efficiency, irreversibility of the system components, maximum system efficiency and the

more economical for small scale applications.
Introduction:
In today s world fossil fuels and other non renewable resources are on the verge of depletion. Research
is
going on in implementing natural resources as thermal source of heat to power any thermodynamic
cycle.
Natural sources are now being employed to decrease the rising costs of alternative fuels such as fossil
fuels,
coal etc. Solar thermal energy is one such energy resource that is being widely used. Rankine cycle is

Charlie Vs. Gordon Effect In Flowers For Algernon
Flowers For Algernon
In the story Flowers for Algernon, Charlie, our main character, is presented a choice to triple his IQ
for a short time and possibly forever, or to stay the way he is. It wouldn t be a good story if he turned
down the offer so of course he chose to have the operation. Later on in the story he slowly becomes
smarter, and then back to his normal self. I believe that Charlie should have had the operation because
he helped make a scientific breakthrough, It was a good experience for him, and it made people
respect him more. If we look at how he made a scientific breakthrough just think about it. Charlie was
the first human to have a successful brain operation that made him learn quicker and overall smarter
than he was. Through the course of the book, toward the middle Charlie is at his mental peak, he
begins to write a paper titled the Algernon Gordon effect. As the readers of the book we don t know
what is exactly written in that paper so we will have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the book, the story is composed of Progress Reports , as a way of keeping track of Charlie s
thoughts and how he progresses after the operation, he probably has some of his progress reports in
the paper. He also has some of how the operation works as Charlie states I have included in my report
all my formulae, as well as mathematical analysis in the appendix. (Daniel Keyes, Page 218) That
means in his report he has a formula of some type that connects with the operation in some sort of
way. If we take a look at the other side of the coin we find that, later on in the book, Charlie loses his
intelligence and goes back to normal which some would say is why he shouldn t have the operation
but think about it, the first model of something new, let s say the

David Baltimore Essay
David Baltimore discovered a concerning the interaction between tumour viruses and the genetic
material of the cell. He worked hard to get to his discovery, and didn t stop when he got there.
Baltimore s relentless hard work helped him get to his amazing discovery and helped him earn the
nobel prize.
David Baltimore was born on March 7th, 1938 in the big city of New York, New York. His parents
Richard and Gertrude Baltimore, raised him in the Queens of New York. In his high school, during
summer school, he learned about cells and fell in love with them. After his PhD, he went to Baltimore
and returned to MIT for postdoctoral research with James Darnell in 1963. He continued his work on
virus replication using poliovirus and pursued training ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He discovered reverse transcriptase, which is the enzyme that transcribes DNA from RNA. When he
did that he discovered a certain class of viruses, that used a RNA template to recopy the synthesis of
DNA. His discovery overturned the genetic theory. The genetic theory belief is that genetic
information flows unidirectionally from DNA to RNA and then into its proteins. The discovery he
made along with Howard Temin, who had proposed the provirus hypothesis, overturned the central
dogma of molecular biology by showing that genetic information could traffic bidirectionally between
DNA and RNA.
People, specifically geneticists and doctors, used this discovery to help them with cures for the Murine
Leukemia virus and Rous Sarcoma virus. The depth of understanding that David Baltimore brought to
the science table made scientist understand more about the cell and how the cell deals with the viruses
that intrude it. The discovery that David Baltimore made proved that the scientists current genetic
theory was incorrect. This opened up a whole new world of possibilities for genetic coding that the
science world hadn t seen

Pain into Beauty Essay
Pain into Beauty
People look back on their childhoods in different ways. Some see it as a time of joy and laughter, love
and learning. Many feel a bittersweet mixture of happy nostalgia, and painful moments. Some prefer
not to look back at all, seeking only to move forward. Then there are people like me, who look back in
anger, bitterness, and sorrow. It seems that few people enjoy a pain free upbringing. In fact, the very
idea of childhood is a fairly new concept. In the early part of the last century, children were considered
miniature adults, and were expected to act that way. Abuse, as defined today, was ignored and
sometimes encouraged. Spare the rod and spoil the child. Today, abuse is carefully defined and is
illegal, but many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So he turned to an old friend for help. She agreed to raise me, and four years later she and my father
married. My new step mother was now, for all intents and purposes, my mother. I called her Mommy,
and later Mom, and at first all was well.
We moved to Denver, Colorado during my first year of life, into a duplex. It was a very small house,
painted a deep blue. It is in this house that my best memories were made. They are of course very
hazy, as I was only three or four, but there are no unhappy times at this point. I was the only child in
my immediate family, and so was doted upon by every auntie and uncle, by every granny and grandpa.
I was the little queen of my little world. At that point in time holidays were the best. I was showered in
gifts and clothing, and love. I consider this time, from the age of zero to five, as being the best years of
my life even if they are a bit hazy.
At the age of five I was a vibrant, joyful ball of energy. Everything was an adventure, even breaking
my collar bone. I loved my life and my family. But once again tragedy struck and this time it struck
my step mother. Her mother had been battling lung cancer, and she could no longer fight. My step
mother was devastated, and I now believe this may have been the beginning of my problems. She
began to change, in subtle ways. Her patience was far less, and nothing I did was right. She cried more
often, and would become angry for no

Positive Change In Food Waste Levels
Over the course of the last 47 years our level of wasted food has increased by 40% meaning that we
throw away one third of our food. This problem is also more devastating than most people realize. We
waste billions of dollars of food and the amount of food that just the united states wastes in one year
could fill 730 football stadiums. This food waste also is hurting the environment in a major way,
increasing our CO2 levels exponentially. All of this food that we waste could be going to serving the
homeless and starving. The best way to start to make positive change in food waste levels is to begin
to recognize the problem, spread awareness for the environmental damage it does, and to start to
implement policies that give small businesses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even if people understood that food would still not get to people who need it because getting the food
to the hungry and to shelters and the poor is not cheap for the suppliers and is actually cheaper for
them to just throw it away. That might be the biggest issue of all because for businesses to donate food
is very expensive, they have to box it, store it, coordinate delivery dates, and there s a lot of
overheads, and you cannot blame most companies for trying to make ends meat. Companies are also
not charities, which is why companies should be incentivized to donate food with tax breaks, large
corporations already get one, charity s get them and it would increase the amount of food that s being
donated exponentially. Especially for small companies because annoyingly small companies tax
breaks are not a permanent part of the tax code. This means that Congress has to keep renewing it
which is a problem, because family farms and local restaurants may not know if they re going to get
that break and the end of the year. So donating food might not be financially viable for them. IT s a
ridiculous system that prevents a lot of food from being donated. It s a widely agreed upon statement
that small businesses should receive tax incentives to donate food. Once we do this it will be just one
small piece of stopping this problem, and the

The Role Of Music And Spatial Task Performance
The study that will be replicated is the study done by Nantais and Schellenberg (1999), which was a
follow up study for Rauscher s experiment (1993, 1995), who s aim was to conduct a study in which
to test whether music and spatial task performance are casually related. The aim of Nantais and
Schellenberg s study was to replicate and extend the basic findings of Rauscher et al which were that
participants who listened to Mozart before taking a spatial ability test did better than those who sat in
silence, also known as the Mozart effect. Nantais and Schellenberg expected that the performance on a
spatial temporal task was better after participants listened to a piece composed by Mozart or by
Schubert than after the participants sat in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As predicted, the overall levels of performance were higher in the participants preferred condition.
This is also known as the participants preferred stimulus. The major modification made between this
study and Rauscher s study is that instead of having the participants listen to Mozart and then sit in
silence, Nantais and Schellenberg had the participants listen to Mozart and then a short story. In
relation to Rauscher et al. and Nantais Schellenberg, the researcher s aim of this experiment is to
investigate the impact of acoustic environmental stimuli on performance of visual spatial tasks. In
order to test this, we will have participants first listen to a section of Mozart music followed by a
spatial ability test and then we ll have the participants listen to a short story also followed by a spatial
ability test. The independent variable in this experiment are the Mozart and short story conditions. The
dependent variable was the results of the spatial ability test for each condition. The independent
variable for this experiment is the acoustic environmental stimuli. The acoustic environmental stimuli
were the Mozart or the short story conditions. The Mozart piece used in this experiment was Mozart s
Sonata for Two Pianos in D Major K. 448. The short story used was You Are Getting Sleepy by

How Does The Roughness Of A Surface Affect The Coefficient...
Discussion Questions: Answer the Testable Question. How does the roughness of a surface affect the
coefficient of static friction and the coefficient of kinetic friction for a block of wood, and how do
these coefficients compare with each other?
From the Results section above, as the roughness of a surface increases, the coefficients of friction for
the block of wood increases. This can be concluded as the surfaces used in order of lowest roughness
to highest roughness were the white surface, wooden surface and lastly the sandpaper surface had
coefficients of friction increasing in the same order. For instance, to compare the static coefficients of
the first trial of each surface in order of roughness, 0.20 0.32. Therefore, corresponding with the
coefficients of static friction, the coefficients of kinetic friction also increases as the roughness of the
surface increases. In conclusion, from the data collected, the observation was that as the roughness of
a surface increases, the coefficient of static friction and the coefficient of kinetic friction for a block of
wood will increase.
In terms of the variables in this experiment, what type of relationship was being tested?
In this experiment, the relationship of the variable force of friction and the coefficient of static and
coefficient of kinetic friction are being tested. From the formula:μk=(Ff,k)/Fn, and μs=(Ff,s max)/Fn,
the coefficients of friction are equal to the force of friction divided by the normal

  • 2. Bees Vs Honey Bees When you are stung by a bee for the first time you won t have a severe allergic reaction, even if you first reaction is mild the reactions get worse with each sting you receive from the bee. Most bees can sting more than once, but it depends on the type of bee it is. Honey bees for example die after the first sting they give you. Only female bees and wasp can sting you because venom pumped from attached venom sacs, is injected into the victim through stylus. When a bee or wasp stings you, the lancets become imbedded in your skin. They pull the stylus into your flesh and the venom sacs pump venom through your body. • 3. Comparing Heroes In Beowulf And The Knight s Tale Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man s character, give him power. Abraham Lincoln. Fictional or nonfictional stories often reflect a strong hero. However, has anyone noticed, the longer heroes remain in power the less heroic they become? The Fictional stories of Beowulf, and The Knight s Tale, and the nonfictional story of king David, are examples of these so called heroes . These stories prove that the longer a hero is in power, the less heroic they become. The Knight s Tale depicts a character named Theseus. Theseus is considered by some to be a hero because he helped overthrow bad leadership in many kingdoms, including the land of Athens. After helping Athens, he became their king. Theseus was a good and wise king for many years. However, as we advance through the story, Theseus makes decisions that hurt his kingdom. When two outlawed knights begin to fight over the princess of Athens, he does not throw them in prison, does not banish them, and does not tell them, Take this fight somewhere else, so nobody gets hurt . Instead, he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... David showed loyalty, faith, leadership, talent, and bravery. He was known as a wise ruler and a great worrier. In the same way, anyone who knows the bible probably knows about the sins David committed. Instead of going into war with his men, David stayed home and did not fight. That poor, cowardly decision led to the sin of adultery with Bathsheba, killing her husband, trying to cover up his sins, and not following God s commands as king. David transformed into a bad father. David transformed into an inconsiderate king. David transformed into an unacceptable hero. His decisions revolved around himself instead of his people. It is the second largest state with more than twenty six million people residing. People all over the state live in a variety of environments, cities, suburbs, rural areas, you name it. Of course though, like in everything else, there are always both positive and negative things. However, despite the fact that Texas have very high poverty rates and it has the second highest income inequality, Texas is a very interesting state and it has a lot of things that are worth learning about. I learned some things about Texas politics that I thought were very interesting. These topics include the State Constitution and the legislature. The Texas Constitution and the U.S. Constitution is very similar to each other in terms of structure. Both documents provide framework, and the amendments come from the will of the people. The Texas Constitution was written to govern the the individual state alone so it should be more specific and less flexible to change. On the other hand, the U.S Constitution is more flexible than the Texas Constitution because of the fact that it was designed to be governing a total of fifty states with each individual states differing from others in values, beliefs, attitudes, behaviors, and the states consist of individuals who have similar values. Today, we are still operating under the 1876 Constitution with four hundred ninety one amendments, which includes a preamble and seventeen ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Without reason, many of the things people choose wouldn t be logical, and can lead to devastating consequences. Generally, reason can lead to positive, or at least logical decisions. Reason undeniably overrules instinct because of the logical choices, reliability, and the wider variety of possibilities it can result in. Comparing Loman And A Raisin In The Sun A Life Lived by Half Although it is overlooked the majority of the time, a woman s underlying sacrificial struggle, lived and experienced by approximately half of the human population, has been covertly eminent. Women must confront within themselves the expectations and viewpoints of society. Both Arthur Miller s Death of a Salesman and Lorraine Hansberry s A Raisin in the Sun provide coinciding portrayals of women by explaining their societal roles, handling of circumstances, character, and external depictions. Although they adamantly strive to be independent and liberated individuals, women are not liberated at all because [they] talk about it too much (Hansberry 64). Women themselves divulge their own weakness because they formulate a false notion of autonomy. Their error is that they prefer a feeling of liberation rather than liberation itself. Despite being subject to men s mistreatment and life s suffering, a woman will sacrifice and do anything for her family (Hansberry 75). Men have at many times verbally abused women and suppressed their opinions, but that does not impede women from sacrificing everything for the people they love. Women are portrayed positively because they display strength and perseverance. In contrast, Willy Loman considers his wife a burden when he expresses the idea that the woman has suffered (Miller 99). Women are now portrayed negatively because they are described as weak and fragile. This portrayal is unjustified because Willy Loman has had more lamentations while Linda Loman has defended his social standing. Although providing a portrayal for women is largely a subjective evaluation, one cannot deny a woman s character and sacrifices. • 15. The Pervasiveness Of Media In Contemporary US Culture Indeed, the pervasiveness of media in its copious forms in contemporary US culture today is undeniable. Almost anywhere one looks, one can find media; a magazine at a doctor s office, a billboard alongside a freeway, a painting at an art gallery, a performance on television or on stage. Media, undeniably, is ubiquitous. However, in the innumerous forms media comes to us in, every one of these forms are created for a purpose; to communicate of an idea or message. But how are students, as well as educators, supposed to interact and interpret media? Auspiciously, just as with any subject of study, one must become literate in its forms and uses. Thus, media literacy is a vital tool set for interacting and interpreting content of any discipline; particularly history education. Certainly, media literacy seeks to teach fluency in the forms of media, how it functions and can influence trends in society. However, media and its messages are not a direct form of communication. Media does not offer a transparent window, as Buckingham writes, only a representation of an idea (Buckingham, 2004. p. .) Further, this representation of an idea or message, as Hoechsmann Poyntz write, always involve(s) a reflection, selection and deflection of reality (Hoechsmann Poyntz, 2012, p. 73). Thus, to achieve fluency with media, the goal of media literacy is to develop personal agency within an individual. Personal agency, as defined by Buckingham, is the ability to be an active ... But what is new, what has become a pressing question, is what is to become of the future if our youth are behind bars instead of in schools? Youth today are being pushed into the criminal justice system at an alarming rate. This issue is known as the school to prison pipeline ─ the rapid rate at which children are pushed out of schools and into the criminal justice system. The school to prison pipeline is a term that came into use by activists in the late 1970 s and has gained recognition throughout the years as the issue became more prominent in the 1990 s. Some activists view policies meant to correct misbehaviors, especially in regards to Zero Tolerance policies and the policing of schools, as a major contributor to the pipeline. Others believe that the funding of schools and the education standards are to blame for the rapid increase of youth incarcerations. While the school to prison pipeline affects every student, African American students, both male and female, are more often the victim of discrimination in education. The school to prison pipeline must end, and the trend must be reversed. Comparing Fairbairn s Motivation Behind His Departure... nd contrast Fairbairn s motivation behind his departure from Freud s structural model and development of object relation s theory Introduction It is widely accepted that Sigmund Freud coined the term Psychoanalysis. Within this he derived a number of models over the period of his life to explain how the psyche operates and from where trauma originates, which subsequently led to the development of psychoanalysis. Ronald Fairbairn was a lecturer at the University of Edinburgh teaching medicine where he incorporated his extensive knowledge of Freud s structural model in his lectures. It was during this time that uncertainties provoked Fairbairn to questions the accuracy of the structural model and initiated Fairbairn s quest to find an alternative theory, which later led to him becoming one of the key contributors to Object relations theory along side, Melanie Klein, and D.W Winnicott. (Object relations theory and practice An introduction, David E. Scharff, pg 5 1996) This essay will compare and contrast some of the key reasons for Fairbairn s departure from Freud s Structural model and drive theory and look at the theory behind object relations and how it is used in therapy today. The Pleasure principle Freud s structural model illustrates that within every individual there is tripartite structure consisting of the Id, Ego and Super Ego. • 24. The Term, Image Of God Introduction: The term image of God occurs three times in the Bible. In Genesis 1:26 27 and 9:6, we find out that man is created in the image of God. In 2 Cor. 4:4 we see the phrase used in reference to Jesus who is the image of God. There is no exact understanding of what the phrase means, but we can generalize. It would seem that the first two verses refer to God s character and attributes that are reflected in people. The term cannot be a reference to a physical appearance of God since Jesus says in John 4:24 that God is Spirit, and in Luke 24:39 Spirit does not have flesh and bones. Therefore, we can conclude that the image of God deals with humanity s reflection of God in such things as compassion, rationality, love, hatred, fellowship, etc. God exhibits all of these characteristics, as do people. Example 1: A good starting point is to respect others because God said to. For example, we read in the Bible that husbands and wives are to respect their spouse and the wife must respect her husband Ephesians 5:33. Husbands, in the same way are considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect 1 Peter 3:7. The same principle applies to other relationships. Peter wrote that we should show respect to everyone. You can respect your spouse, child, parent, boss or others because of their position. Acknowledge that others have weaknesses. Everyone is imperfect. Be careful not to let their failures erode your respect for their good qualities. Look for things ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is difficult to prevent temptation within the student population when it comes to the harmful aspects of our society and the effect it has. Most students strive to be cool or popular or simply fit in when they attend grade school. Although not all students fall into the wrong path, every student deserves assistance and the opportunity to grow and prosper. In the Pasadena Independent School District (PISD) about 90% of the students are minorities. Meanwhile, in 2015 the highest percentage of drop outs within ethnic groups was 9.6%; it belonged to a minority. Although minorities tend to have higher dropout rates, there are nonprofit organizations established such as the Communities In Schools After school Centers on Education program (CIS ACE). Regardless of all the positive effects is has within our community and the hard work we put toward the program, it is no longer receiving a grant to furthermore continue this program even though it is evident that students in Pasadena ISD would be benefitted more than most compared to other school districts. • 28. Baruch Spinoza s Anti Anthroponcentric View Essay When Baruch Spinoza composed his philosophical masterpiece, the Ethics, he knew that his ideas (particularly those of God) would be considered heretical in the extreme, leading to any number of unpleasant consequences. This was the reason that the Ethics were published in 1677, posthumously (p.97)1. His apprehensions are well justified in the light of what he writes in the Appendix (p.145 149) to Part1: Concerning God (p.129 145) regarding the prejudices present in the minds of human beings. The argument regarding (1) above, is undoubtedly the most crucial and (not surprisingly) the most heretical of Spinoza s unabashed critique of contemporary religion. The (main) reason for (1) turns out to be (as we shall see) the creation of God in the image of Man by people in their vain attempts to understand the nature of the Universe. This anthropomorphisation of God and the parallel anthropocentric view of the universe, is in essence what Spinoza concludes to be the reason for (1). The argument follows shortly (based upon p.145 6). The key to answering (1) above, is what Spinoza calls The Doctrine of Final Causes (henceforth referred to simply as the Doctrine ). This doctrine is essentially the process by which the above creation takes place. Firstly, people come into being without definite knowledge of causal relationships between things. Further, they have a strong belief in the freedom of their own will, and this belief arises from their conscious knowledge of their desires and from what they perceive as their (essentially) unstoppable drive in fulfilling them. Also, they have no inclination to investigate the cause for these desires to exist in the first place. Finally (Spinoza says), people are always focussed on their final goals, ... In Virginia, we do not have a state law that specifically requires employers to offer pregnancy leave. Although, we do have the Human Rights Act that must provide some leave for those women who are disabled by pregnancy. Being disabled by pregnancy means that you can no longer do certain activities so that the mother can deliver safely and care for the newborn. In America, the U.S. has a policy, The Family and Medical leave Act of 1993. It is mandating 12 weeks of unpaid leave annually. Unfortunately, only four states have paid maternity leave. The four states are California, New Jersey, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island. California and New Jersey gives you 6 weeks and Rhode Island gives you only 4 weeks. Research has shown that women in the United States are more likely to drop out of work force voluntarily due to lack of time with the infant and stress. Rectification of camera captured document images for Camera based OCR technology Abstract Due to the rapid progress in digital cameras industry, camera captured documents becomes as another possibility or choice for document capturing and understanding for OCR applications. However, image quality degradations arising from the image acquisition process have severe effect on these applications. The distortion results from digital camera may take the shape of skew, perspective distortion or geometric distortion. We propose fully automatic preprocessing techniques to enhance the digital camera captured images to improve the performance of OCR applications. Our algorithms depend on the features of the text lines and letters and do not need any especial equipment. Experimental results on a real camera captured images demonstrate 10~15 % enhancement in current commercial OCR packages. 1. Introduction Textual content in books, newspapers and articles have been traditionally digitized using scanners and read with the help of optical character recognition (OCR). Recent technical advances in digital cameras have led the OCR community to consider using them instead of scanners for document capture. • 40. Theme Of Hospitality In Beowulf By demonstrating how the benign exchange of hospitality changes into a vicious cycle of assault and retaliation and how it ultimately leads to tragedy, Beowulf makes a point about the limits of hospitality, whereby nothing short of death can end the cycle of obligation. The world of Beowulf is constructed upon the rules of hospitality and requisites of reciprocity. As Marcel Mauss asserts, there are no free gifts. Regardless of time and place, a gift of any sort obliges a person to reciprocate the present that has been received (Mauss 9). Heardred s mistake in offering hospitality to the sons of Ohthere results in him being mortally rewarded with wounds from a sword (2386). Onela s treatment of Heardred s hospitality as treachery results in a cruel parody of hospitable exchange: a fatal sequence of assault and revenge. The fate of Heardred also serves to reaffirm that hospitality in this poem can never wholly seal itself from treachery and peril. Later on, in his report to King Hygelac after returning to Geatland, Beowulf speaks of how Hrothgar attempts to make peace between the Danes and Heathobards by marrying his daughter Freawaru to Ingel. In spite of the feud between the two sides, the Heathobards are obliged to host and entertain the Danes since a Danish princess is marrying the Heathobard king. But as Beowulf mentions, the spear / is prompt to retaliate when a prince is killed (2029 30). Paradoxically, the system of reciprocity here becomes a source of both Heathobards hospitality (as host) as much as their desire to retaliate against the Danes. Ultimately, the force of grievances outweighs the bond established through the offering of the bride as a gift: a guest who wears the heirloom snatched from the host s father has betrayed hospitality, which invites retaliation from the host. During the 70 s and 80 s although humanitarian crisis existed, the geopolitics was more focused on the cold war and respecting the sovereignty of nation states. Although crisis in Africa, East Pakistan and Guatemala (to name a few) were made aware ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Dentist Admissions Essay As a human being, and raised up in a doctor s family, I have always considered myself to have an inclination towards helping my community. My outlook towards helping others evolved into a duty after my own personal interaction with my orthodontist and the accreditation she holds for giving me a beautiful smile, emerged the idea of pursuing my career as a dentist. • 43. Energy Producing Hot Water For Cogeneration The proposed project focuses on developing an electrical generation thermal system which generates 5KW power producing hot water for cogeneration. The Rankine cycle is used as the base system for the design. The solar energy is utilized in the project as a thermal source of heat to the system. The obtained heat energy is used to heat the system with overall system efficiency to be 60.4% and generate power of 5KW to be used for cogeneration and the waste heat recovered is stored in a battery which is utilized to produce hot water even in the absence of sunlight. The thermodynamic properties of the system were analyzed and calculated. The second law efficiency, irreversibility of the system components, maximum system efficiency and the net work done by the components of the system were majorly focused and calculated. The economic analysis of the system were performed by taking into account all the system components and found the system design to be more economical for small scale applications. Introduction: In today s world fossil fuels and other non renewable resources are on the verge of depletion. Research is going on in implementing natural resources as thermal source of heat to power any thermodynamic cycle. Natural sources are now being employed to decrease the rising costs of alternative fuels such as fossil fuels,

  • 45. Charlie Vs. Gordon Effect In Flowers For Algernon Flowers For Algernon In the story Flowers for Algernon, Charlie, our main character, is presented a choice to triple his IQ for a short time and possibly forever, or to stay the way he is. It wouldn t be a good story if he turned down the offer so of course he chose to have the operation. Later on in the story he slowly becomes smarter, and then back to his normal self. I believe that Charlie should have had the operation because he helped make a scientific breakthrough, It was a good experience for him, and it made people respect him more. If we look at how he made a scientific breakthrough just think about it. Charlie was the first human to have a successful brain operation that made him learn quicker and overall smarter than he was. Through the course of the book, toward the middle Charlie is at his mental peak, he begins to write a paper titled the Algernon Gordon effect. In the book, the story is composed of Progress Reports , as a way of keeping track of Charlie s thoughts and how he progresses after the operation, he probably has some of his progress reports in the paper. He also has some of how the operation works as Charlie states I have included in my report all my formulae, as well as mathematical analysis in the appendix. (Daniel Keyes, Page 218) That means in his report he has a formula of some type that connects with the operation in some sort of way. If we take a look at the other side of the coin we find that, later on in the book, Charlie loses his intelligence and goes back to normal which some would say is why he shouldn t have the operation but think about it, the first model of something new, let s say the ... • 46. David Baltimore Essay David Baltimore discovered a concerning the interaction between tumour viruses and the genetic material of the cell. He worked hard to get to his discovery, and didn t stop when he got there. Baltimore s relentless hard work helped him get to his amazing discovery and helped him earn the nobel prize. David Baltimore was born on March 7th, 1938 in the big city of New York, New York. His parents Richard and Gertrude Baltimore, raised him in the Queens of New York. In his high school, during summer school, he learned about cells and fell in love with them. After his PhD, he went to Baltimore and returned to MIT for postdoctoral research with James Darnell in 1963. He continued his work on virus replication using poliovirus and pursued training ... When he did that he discovered a certain class of viruses, that used a RNA template to recopy the synthesis of DNA. His discovery overturned the genetic theory. The genetic theory belief is that genetic information flows unidirectionally from DNA to RNA and then into its proteins. The discovery he made along with Howard Temin, who had proposed the provirus hypothesis, overturned the central dogma of molecular biology by showing that genetic information could traffic bidirectionally between DNA and RNA. People, specifically geneticists and doctors, used this discovery to help them with cures for the Murine Leukemia virus and Rous Sarcoma virus. The depth of understanding that David Baltimore brought to the science table made scientist understand more about the cell and how the cell deals with the viruses that intrude it. The discovery that David Baltimore made proved that the scientists current genetic theory was incorrect. This opened up a whole new world of possibilities for genetic coding that the science world hadn t seen ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Pain into Beauty Essay Pain into Beauty People look back on their childhoods in different ways. Some see it as a time of joy and laughter, love and learning. Many feel a bittersweet mixture of happy nostalgia, and painful moments. Some prefer not to look back at all, seeking only to move forward. Then there are people like me, who look back in anger, bitterness, and sorrow. It seems that few people enjoy a pain free upbringing. In fact, the very idea of childhood is a fairly new concept. In the early part of the last century, children were considered miniature adults, and were expected to act that way. Abuse, as defined today, was ignored and sometimes encouraged. Spare the rod and spoil the child. Today, abuse is carefully defined and is illegal, but many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So he turned to an old friend for help. I called her Mommy, and later Mom, and at first all was well. We moved to Denver, Colorado during my first year of life, into a duplex. It was a very small house, painted a deep blue. It is in this house that my best memories were made. They are of course very hazy, as I was only three or four, but there are no unhappy times at this point. I was the only child in my immediate family, and so was doted upon by every auntie and uncle, by every granny and grandpa. I was the little queen of my little world. At that point in time holidays were the best. I was showered in gifts and clothing, and love. • 48. Positive Change In Food Waste Levels Over the course of the last 47 years our level of wasted food has increased by 40% meaning that we throw away one third of our food. This problem is also more devastating than most people realize. We waste billions of dollars of food and the amount of food that just the united states wastes in one year could fill 730 football stadiums. This food waste also is hurting the environment in a major way, increasing our CO2 levels exponentially. All of this food that we waste could be going to serving the homeless and starving. The best way to start to make positive change in food waste levels is to begin to recognize the problem, spread awareness for the environmental damage it does, and to start to implement policies that give small businesses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even if people understood that food would still not get to people who need it because getting the food to the hungry and to shelters and the poor is not cheap for the suppliers and is actually cheaper for them to just throw it away. That might be the biggest issue of all because for businesses to donate food is very expensive, they have to box it, store it, coordinate delivery dates, and there s a lot of overheads, and you cannot blame most companies for trying to make ends meat. Companies are also not charities, which is why companies should be incentivized to donate food with tax breaks, large corporations already get one, charity s get them and it would increase the amount of food that s being donated exponentially. Especially for small companies because annoyingly small companies tax breaks are not a permanent part of the tax code. This means that Congress has to keep renewing it which is a problem, because family farms and local restaurants may not know if they re going to get that break and the end of the year. So donating food might not be financially viable for them. IT s a ridiculous system that prevents a lot of food from being donated. It s a widely agreed upon statement that small businesses should receive tax incentives to donate food. Once we do this it will be just one small piece of stopping this problem, and the ... • 49. The Role Of Music And Spatial Task Performance The study that will be replicated is the study done by Nantais and Schellenberg (1999), which was a follow up study for Rauscher s experiment (1993, 1995), who s aim was to conduct a study in which to test whether music and spatial task performance are casually related. The aim of Nantais and Schellenberg s study was to replicate and extend the basic findings of Rauscher et al which were that participants who listened to Mozart before taking a spatial ability test did better than those who sat in silence, also known as the Mozart effect. Nantais and Schellenberg expected that the performance on a spatial temporal task was better after participants listened to a piece composed by Mozart or by Schubert than after the participants sat in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As predicted, the overall levels of performance were higher in the participants preferred condition. This is also known as the participants preferred stimulus. The major modification made between this study and Rauscher s study is that instead of having the participants listen to Mozart and then sit in silence, Nantais and Schellenberg had the participants listen to Mozart and then a short story. In relation to Rauscher et al. and Nantais Schellenberg, the researcher s aim of this experiment is to investigate the impact of acoustic environmental stimuli on performance of visual spatial tasks. In order to test this, we will have participants first listen to a section of Mozart music followed by a spatial ability test and then we ll have the participants listen to a short story also followed by a spatial ability test. The independent variable in this experiment are the Mozart and short story conditions. The dependent variable was the results of the spatial ability test for each condition. The independent variable for this experiment is the acoustic environmental stimuli. The acoustic environmental stimuli were the Mozart or the short story conditions. The Mozart piece used in this experiment was Mozart s Sonata for Two Pianos in D Major K. 448. The short story used was You Are Getting Sleepy by Gleynn Washington. The type ... • 50. How Does The Roughness Of A Surface Affect The Coefficient... Discussion Questions: Answer the Testable Question. How does the roughness of a surface affect the coefficient of static friction and the coefficient of kinetic friction for a block of wood, and how do these coefficients compare with each other? From the Results section above, as the roughness of a surface increases, the coefficients of friction for the block of wood increases. This can be concluded as the surfaces used in order of lowest roughness to highest roughness were the white surface, wooden surface and lastly the sandpaper surface had coefficients of friction increasing in the same order. For instance, to compare the static coefficients of the first trial of each surface in order of roughness, 0.20 0.32. Therefore, corresponding with the coefficients of static friction, the coefficients of kinetic friction also increases as the roughness of the surface increases. In conclusion, from the data collected, the observation was that as the roughness of a surface increases, the coefficient of static friction and the coefficient of kinetic friction for a block of wood will increase. In terms of the variables in this experiment, what type of relationship was being tested? In this experiment, the relationship of the variable force of friction and the coefficient of static and coefficient of kinetic friction are being tested. From the formula:μk=(Ff,k)/Fn, and μs=(Ff,s max)/Fn, the coefficients of friction are equal to the force of friction divided by the normal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
