The British Of The Colonists
In the 1700s, the Colonists were enraged how the British Parliament were treating
them. The British Parliament had been constantly ignoring their rights and forcing
taxes upon the colonies. This set an outroar in the colonies, especially in
Massachusetts. Parliament had created new laws that limited the Massachusetts bay
in shipping and landing goods and also an act that for a better regulation government
in this providence. All of the colonists deemed this as Impolitic, unjust, and cruel, as
well as unconstitutional, and most dangerous and destructive of American rights
(Declaration and Resolves, para. 3) This forced them to send Parliament a document
called, Declaration and Resolves of the First Continental Congress. This document

After getting their independence from Britain. They made sure this would never
happen again by making it a part of their Bill of Rights. This was Ammendment
three, and it state that no soldier In time of peace be quartered in any house,
without the consent of the Owner, nor in time of war, but in a manner to be
prescribed by law. (US Const. Amend. III) The only way for a soldier to be
quartered is if they got prescribed by law and have gotten consent by the owner of the
house. Through the British Parliament s actions, the newly, independent country now
has a safeguard to never house soldiers without their consent. The next grievance the
colonies faced would be the British forcing taxes upon the colonists, without their
consent. During this time, Parliament was full of British people and no colonists.
This was a problem because the Colonists then had no vote or say in anything they
passed. Through not having any colonists vote, they passed an act that put taxes on
all colonial good exported and bought. After it was voted in, the colonists were made
and coined the term No taxation without representation . This term meant that they
can not get taxed if they were not apart of the vote or in Parliament. The colonists
agreed and put this into the document of declarations and resolves, and said every
idea of taxation internal or external, for raising a revenue on the subjects, in America,
without their consent.
The Dance Of Benevolence
Welcome, welcome to all! As you all already know, it is now the time that we begin
with the dance of benevolence, following with which we will commence with the
raising of the cups. But first, let us give favor with the descendent of the fair
maidens. The trumpets began to sound again, and music accompanied. I watched
with uncertainty. Nothing was happening until the crowd gasped and a beautiful
young female in a billowy, bronze colored dress emerged. Nimbly, she glided down
the stairs. The people oohed and awed when just then, another attractive woman in a
peach colored dress arrived and floated after. More and more beautiful women
streamed down the stairsteps, flowing out into the ballroom. The colors of their dress
faded lighter... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There was no doubt she was beautiful: full red rose lips, slender waist, and smooth
dark hair that cascaded down her bare, white shoulders. But there was something
about her demeanor that distracted from her beauty. I couldn t place it. Everyone
remained silent until she made her final step onto the ballroom floor. She looked
around the room, in greetings to her guests and her lips stretched wide, flashing a
white teeth smile. Just then, in a wave like motion, the lights burned brightly
again, the music continued, and chatter and dancing became omnipresent. I
returned my gaze to Gemma. Her eyes darted anxiously about as she stood
alongside the other maidens. I had to move quickly. I held up my hand to capture
her attention, but instantly I felt a tingling. My hand was beginning to disappear,
evaporating in a swirling swarm of particles. Before I could start to comprehend
what was happening, my whole body started to whirl around in a rapid spin. In a
blink of an eye, I found myself still in the ballroom, only now, I was near the stairs
on the opposite end. Dazed and disoriented, I reached my hand to my head and was
startled to see my arms covered with sleeves. I reached down touching my torso.
My clothes had altered. My T shirt had converted to a blue jacket, and I was
wearing a suit comparable to an admiral s. Why did my clothes always change? At
least now I fit in, I thought. Instinctively I grabbed my shoulders, to my relief, I
could still feel my backpack
Stranger Than Fiction Sequence
#1 Stranger Than Fiction s opening sequence is a single sequence shot, where the
camera is flying in from space towards the earth, continuing down over a city, flying
by building with a low frequency Whoosh , through buildings via open windows, and
coming to a stop inside a darkened room, centered on a wrist watchwith a fluorescent
blue display. A voice over begins and says This is the story of Harold
Crick, and his

sequence continues showing a typical mundane day for Harold Crick, (Played by
Will Farrell), a Senior Agent for the Internal Revenue Service, and concludes
showing Harold going to bed, then it cuts to show a man giving his son a bicycle as
a gift, and a young woman searching the classified ads for a job. Throughout the
sequence the voice over describes the way Harold approaches life. Illustrating his
peculiarities are Document like Graphics interlaced with Harold on the screen,

For much of my life I have felt I have just been going through the motions, not
living my life to the fullest. I have dreams that have gone unrealized, and a few
regrets, and this film speaks to that condition. In a kind of quirky way, this film
cries out for each of us to live the life we ve always wanted. Get involved with those
around us. Too often we become mired down in day to day minutia, and by the
time we shake ourselves awake, more years have passed than are still left for us to
live. When I saw this film was an option for this assignment, I was thrilled. I have
recommended this film to friends and family, the casting is perfect, the music scores
the film perfectly, the story is quirky and a bit off center, and it all combines into in a

The Influence of Roman Engineering and Architecture
The ingeniousness and beauty of Roman architecture has not been lost on us in the
2000 years since it was built. Even today, we still marvel at what incredible
builders the Romans were, and at the sheer scale and integrity of many of their
projects. It is hard to argue that today s architecture will maintain the same lasting
grandeur as that which the Romans built. If we can still respect and admire the
grandeur of Rome as it was in it s day, one can only imagine how much of an
influence people of the time felt, due to the incredible innovations that the Romans
brought to the new regions of their empire. In fact, it is because of the superior
engineering skills and architectural ideas possessed by the Romans, and respected by
others,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This water was then used for the public baths and toilets, besides the expected
drinking water. The fact that this water was for the public, and not reserved for
private use, pleased people in the new colonies even more, and made them even
more accepting of Roman control. The actual aqueducts themselves, built by the
Romans to carry the water, were perhaps even more influential. Aqueducts like
Pont du Gard at Nimes (Images 3 and 4), or Segovia in Spain (Image 5), the latter
of which still carries water today, were monumental landmarks in the colonies where
they were built and still are today. That the Romans would build such magnificent
and monumental structures for the sole purpose of supplying water to its colonies
was likely overwhelming to those benefiting from it. So the Romans supplied the
towns with water, and made travel between towns easier. But what about improving
life within the town itself? It is in the public buildings such as the bath, the forum
and the amphitheater, which people used and experienced daily, where Rome was
able to exert its greatest influence. The fact that these buildings were open to all and
not reserved for an elitist group of society only increased their significance. It is
arguable that the grandness of the baths has yet to be surpassed in any public building
since. These were huge, lavishly ornamented structures where citizens would go not
only to bathe, but also
Lagos Business Climate
Economics and Business Climate Overview of Lagos, Nigeria.
1.0Background Information
1.1Geopolitical Profile
The smallest in area of Nigeria s states (total land area of three thousand, five hundred
and seventy seven square meters), Lagos State is the most populous state (with over
eighteen million people according to 2006 population census) and unarguably the
most economically important state of the country and the nation s most urbanized
(Economic Intelligence Unit, MEPB 2012).
This large, mostly young, population offers both an abundant workforce and a larger
emerging and relatively untapped market for consumer products and services (Lagos
State Government 2012).

Local, regional and global markets have easy access to Lagos due to its strategic
location. Over fifty percent of the major ports in Nigeria are located in Lagos.
2.0Present Business and Economic Environment Condition
2.1Business Environment Leverage
Aside the great potentials possessed by the business and economic environment of
Lagos, just to mention but a few, there are various incentives in place for both local
and international prospective and current investors to take advantage of.
For investors willing to set up pioneer industries across various sectors of the
economy, the government has put in place a profit and dividends tax holiday of up
to five years (Lagos State Government 2012).
Keen investors desiring to invest in the agricultural sector can also take advantage
of an Agricultural Credit Guarantee Scheme Fund (ACGSF) administered by the
Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) which guarantees up to seventy five percent of all
loans made by commercial banks to agricultural related activities. Manufacturers are
also entitled to rapid depreciation allowances. Mining also qualify for three years tax
holiday (Lagos State Government 2012).
For SMEs, there is an SME fund which will make cheap funds at a single digit
interest rate accessible to qualified SMEs for improved productivity and job creation.
In addition, SMEs pay a lower rate in the first five years in several sectors. Dividends
are also exempt
Critical Pedagogy And The Reggio Emilia
Critical pedagogy and The Reggio Emilia approach on play based learning should be
merged into early childhood education as obtaining the skills to critically analyze and
problem solve has the potential to change society and thus the potential to change the
world.
It is important individuals become aware of what critical pedagogy is. Critical
pedagogy stems from the idea that there is an unequal social structure in our society
which is based upon class, race and gender. It has been formulated and influenced by
many psychologists and philosophers including John Dewey and Paulo Freire. Critical
pedagogy is an attempt at freedom from oppression through democratic critical
thinking. In critical pedagogy the knowledge learned within the classroom should
correlate with and not be separated from any social structure, culture, politics,
economics or any ideology taking place with society. The idea is, that in order to
orchestrate change, individuals must become aware of the social, cultural,
ideological, and or economic influence exerted upon society. Once the individual
becomes aware of the hegemony taking place they can then analyze their situation
and implement change for the greater good.
John Dewey born October 20th, 1859 was an American psychologist and philosopher.
He was known well for his avocation in democracy and his theories on progressive
education which correlate and transition into critical pedagogy. His theories focused
on the argument that learning and education are
Toy Story Analysis
Toy Story may be a film made for children, but it is not about children but rather the
toys. The characters in the film confront issues that seem to be more applicable to the
life of an adult. The relationships the toys share with Andy and ultimately with one
another resemble relationships within the real world. The film hints at the fact that
children never have to worry about abandonment or relevancy, toys are the ones that
have to ponder on this fact of life. The toys must face reality but they also have a
choice in how to deal with them. They have to accept that they will not last because
something new will always make them feel inferior. Although contradictory to the
heartwarming storyline, Toy Storybrings its viewers to reality with the idea of things
and people being replaceable.
Since they are plain possessions, the lives of the toys are defined by their utility. It is
clear to the viewers that he loves his toys, and while playing with them, Andy uses his
imagination extensively. But like other children, it is clear to see that Andy has no
trouble putting them aside when he has used them to their full capacity. For example,
when Andy received Buzz Lightyear as a present, he flings Woody off his bed onto
the floor, making space for his pristine action figure. Everything that is related to
Woody is replaced with things that resemble Buzz Lightyear, from his bedroom s
wallpaper to the bed sheets. Andy s new position is now in the storage chest, along

My Day At A Wax Museum Essay
So guess where we re going over spring break? Where? I asked my mom. We re
going to St. Louis to visit a Wax Museum. Her voice was enthusiastic, and she was
too hyper to go on the trip. When she informed me about this outing I was not
excited. I loathe leaving Kansas City. There s nothing to do. You re perched on
your butt in the car for hours on end, and there s nothing to look at but farmland
and the occasional cow. Over time, the journey begins to get boring; you re
exhausted for a considerable length of time. Also, I have five brothers and sisters. I
would be with them in the car with them the entire outing and they re boisterous.
Being in the same red car with them for ten minutes, I can t stand; I didn t know how
I was going to survive an entire trip. The day of the trip, my motherwoke all of us up
at 6AM. I was already exhausted. I was trusting I would get the opportunity to rest,
as I was on break. She could have told me she was waking us up early. I was
certainly treasuring my sleep. How long is the drive? I asked my mother, Around
four hours, she told me. My mouth dropped open in disbelief. How could any trip
take this long? Prior to the outing, we went to pick my grandmother up. She s very
enthusiastic and talks so much. I asked my mom Why are we going to grandma s?
and she told me Because your grandma is coming. Sarcastically I thought, Incredible,
more people, just exactly what I wanted. My grandmother has never

Study on Effectiveness of Outrigger Truss in Composite High Rise Buildings by
Simplified Method

Abstract The design of tall and slender structures is controlled by three governing
factors, strength (material capacity), stiffness (drift) and serviceability (motion
perception and accelerations), produced by the action of lateral loading, such as wind
and earthquake. Outrigger systems are generally very effective in fulfilling the
serviceability requirements of tall buildings. This research conducted a study on
effectiveness of outrigger truss by simplified method to introduce the normal
buildings that can be minimized the deflection as the buildings with outrigger. Two
and three outrigger levels are used in 40 and 50 storey square shape buildings
respectively. From this result, the engineers can run the buildings without using
outrigger to get the minimum deflection as the buildings with outrigger but the base
shear is larger than outrigger buildings significantly. Therefore, for the proposed
buildings to get minimum deflection, the outrigger is more effective than simplified
method.

Physical Therapist Assistant
If you are interested in a hands on job, in which you observe patients during
treatment sessions, assist patients, and receive instructions from a physical therapist,
consider pursuing a career as a Physical Therapist Assistant. There are many reasons
you should consider a career in physical therapy. A physical therapist assistant works
under the supervision of a licensed physical therapist. In many practices, physical
therapists rely on the physical therapist assistant to make sure that all the patients
have access to physical therapy services. They help the physical therapist by
providing physical therapy treatment sessions that the therapist might not get around
to. According to American Physical Therapy Associationphysical therapy has a long
history of returning individuals to their maximum level of physical function and in
many cases; patients are being sent to physical therapy instead of surgery ( Physical
Therapist Assistant (PTA) Careers Overview ). The physical therapist often depends
on their assistant to provide services, such as workouts by helping the clients through
many different exercises, massages, applying hot or cold packs, paraffin baths (

Barriers to Entry
RTE Cereal Industry Barriers to Entry Giovanni Massari 1) Economies of Scale:
with regards to Economies of Scale, we have Product Specific ones with regard to
the fact that there is a minimum efficient scale of production in the industry,
without which firms wouldn t survive in the environment; requirements, in this
case, are 75 million pounds of cereals per year to be efficient. Other scale
economies can be Multi Product ES ( Economies of Scope ); indeed, different
types of cereals can be produced in a very similar way, not requiring different
production facilities, but leveraging the existing ones. The same can also be applied
to packaging/bagging, which is the main source of Economies of Scale, because the

4) Product Differentiation: in order to communicate differentiation of their
products to consumers, Big Three spent massively on advertising (advertising
/sales ratio: 18.5%). In this regard, also brand extensions have to be considered,
because in this way they re reaching different markets (e.g., healthy food lovers,
with the introduction of fruit in cereals). In order to further differentiate from new
entrants, the incumbents used to provide customers In Pack Premia (only one at a
time, in order not to be negatively affected one by the other). 5) Capital
Requirements: in order to enter the industry, there were huge capital expenses to
be sustained by firms, such as a minimum of $ 100 million for capital investments,
and at least 125 employees to run a plant that could produce both packaging and
cereals themselves. In this framework, advertising expenses may be added too,
since they re a great part of the expenditures a RTE Cereal firm has to face, and
they also represent a great Barrier To Entry, being an amount close to 1/5 of the
sales generated by the company. 6) Access To Distribution Channels: Big Three have
ease of access to distribution channels, for instance through their Shelf Space Plans .
These were intended to give their products the most valued positions in
supermarkets, offering also a simple resolution to shelf space struggle (space was
allocated in proportion to historical sales

Not long ago, I received a delightful phone call, it was from a patient I treated three
years ago, he and his family wanted just to say hi, we missed you Doc. , isn t that
one of the most beautiful thing someone can get in life? For me yes it is.
I studied medicine in one of the top universities in the Middle East that is University
of Baghdad, College of Medicine. My training was in Baghdad Medical Center, the
biggest teaching hospital in Iraq, which provided me with the best teaching and
training in the country. After graduation, I did my internship in several hospitals in
Baghdad. During that time, my country went through crisis situations, with lack of
many basic services and security. I faced a wide range of medical cases that needed
to be managed under highly stressful conditions, which helped in developing my
clinical and social skills. I was introduced to all specialties of medicine, and that was
the time when Family Medicine started to be my biggest interest. Family physicians
are not better than other doctors, but they are different. They continue to be the heart
and soul of medicine. More than any other specialty, family doctors humanize the
health care experience. Focusing their attention on the person, not just the disease,
they are driven to develop relationships over generations with the patients and
families they care for.
Due to the continued security deterioration in my country, I had to travel to Jordan,
and work as a general practitioner over there and
Dr. Paul Farmer In Mountains Beyond Mountains

College Program involved a three hour class of your choosing with three to four
hours of homework each night. Part of each night s assignment was reading a book
called Mountains Beyond Mountainsby Tracy Kidder. Mountains Beyond Mountains

Paul Farmer mission is providing suitable health care to under resourced countries,
specifically on providing treatment for tuberculosis and AIDS. I admire his
willingness to take on the challenge of providing health care in a country that is
under resourced. When reading the book, the reader discovers the meaning behind
the title Mountain Beyond Mountains. During the book, Dr. Paul Farmer describes
his journey as a series of mountain. Once you get to the top of another you see the
many more to come. This directly related to his obstacles to starting his aid relief to
countries in terms of getting the funding, overcoming culture barriers and how to
truly provide relief without to0 much intervention in the country: each time one
mountain is overcome there is another one waiting to be taken on. Therefore, I
admire his resilience in continuing to preserve against the obstacles he had to face
along with the future obstacles to come. In addition, Dr. Paul Farmer, in active

Essay On Change Blindness
Changes in our surroundings are happening every minute and if we started noticing
every minute detail about a scene then our visual system will be over whelmed in no
time (Rensink, 2000). We are limited in our capacity to encode, retain and compare
visual information from one glance to the other. Our awareness of our visual
surroundings is far lesser than what most people believe intuitively. Change Blindness
is the inability to consciously perceive a changing stimulus in the visual environment
and subsequently not being able to report it. It occurs in other sensory modalities as
well. Interestingly change blindness has been found to also take place in Olfaction
(Sela Sobel, 2010), Auditory (Eramudugola, Irvine, McAnally, Martin Mattinglley...

The first cause is overwriting. Overwriting occurs when the individual has no visual
representation of how the scene was in the beginning. The information from the first
scene is simply replaced by new information (Simons, 2000).Impressions is the
second culprit. When the information from an initial scene is encoded but not re
examined as long as the meaning in the scene is consistent, impressions takes place
(Simons, 2000). The third cause is that nothing is stored. Since the individuals have
not encoded or compared the scenes, they can t identify any changes (Simons, 2000).
The fourth cause is everything is stored but not compared. Though the individuals
encoded the first and the second scene, they failed to realize that both the scenes are
different. Research has shown that it is possible for an individual to hold two beliefs
about a scene without realizing that the scenes are very different from each other
(Simons, 2000). And our final convict is feature combination. Feature combination
says that individuals remember certain features from one scene and different features
from the second scene that the individual remembers, not accurately represent either
of the scenes (Simons,
Politics And Economic Development Of Angola
Politics play a crucial role in the success of any economy. The field of political
economy is, thus, crucial in demonstrating the manner politics, law and institutions
alter the course a country s economic development. Politics is an integral part of an
economy since it is used to allocate scarce resources within a state. Ideally, political
economyrefers to a mixture of sociology, politics, economics, history and philosophy,
which integrates adequate evidence to examine how individuals exist within
societies. Although the partnership between China and Angola dates back to 1960s
and 1970s, over the recent past, Africa, particularly Angola, has increasingly become
an attractive site for Chinese investments. This report reveals that China has been at
the forefront in spearheading investments and economic development of Angola,
particularly on its agricultural and oil sectors.
The face of China s contribution towards economic growth in Angola A number of
sources have reveals that China has apparently become a key economic partner to
Angola. The country has been described as being one of the key recipients of
Chinese investments on the continent. Angolan and Chinese political and economic
ties expanded during the late 1980 after the signing of the first trade agreement
between the two countries in 1984. Since then, the bilateral trade between Angola
and China has considerably expanded exceeding $ 120 billion by 2010. In spite of
the poor relationship between the MPLA and the
Father And Son Relationships In Death Of A Salesman By...
In many literary works, family relationships are the key to the plot. Through a
family s interaction with one another, the reader is able decipher the conflicts of the
story. Within a literary family, various characters play different roles in each other s
lives. These are usually people that are emotionally and physically connected in one
way or another. They can be brother and sister, mother and daughter, or in this case,
father and son. In the Arthur Miller s novel, Death of A Salesman, the interaction
between Willy Loman and his sons, Happy and Biff, allows Miller to comment on
father son relationships and the conflicts that arise from them.
During most father son relationships, there are certain times where the father wants
to become more of a player in his son s life than his son believes is necessary. The
reasons for this are numerous and can be demonstrated in different ways. Miller is
able to give an example of this behavior through the actions of Willy Loman. When
Biff comes home to recollect himself, Willy perceives it as failure. Since Willy
desperately wants his oldest son, Biff, to succeed in every way possible, he tries to
take matters into his own hands. I ll get him a job selling. He could be big in no

Because Willy gets in the way, matters become more complicated. Partly due to
Willy s persistence in Biff s life, they have conflicting ideas as to what the American

and who s young assistant Peter is in love with. Mr. Propter is Jo Stoyte s
neighbour, who is only one of the characters who achieves success and happiness,

humankind. He sees everyone as a stepping stone to science, the greater good.
According to Propter s philosophy, he is trapped in ego based human behaviour that
prevents him from reaching enlightenment. Dr. Obispo seduces Virginia in a
characteristically egotistical way. She is unable to resist him despite her loyalty to
Mr. Stoyte. When she is found out by Stoyte, he wants to kill Dr. Obispo, but
accidentally kills Peter instead. Dr. Obispo covers up the act for money and
continued research support. This takes him, along with Virginia and Stoyte, to
Europe, where they find an immortal human, the Fifth Earl of Gonister, who is 200
years old and still alive, but who now resembles an ape. Mr. Stoyte can not grasp that

A Call From Casey s General Store
On 03 December 2015 at 1048 hours, a call from Casey s General Store located at
400 Broadway Ave, Godfrey, IL 62035, was placed to 911. Billie Joe Anderson, a
clerk at Casey s stated, A young woman came into the store and asked me to call the
police for a domestic dispute at 900 Indiana. She further indicated that the woman
said, The police needed to go to the 1300 block of Virginia where the domestic
dispute will be continuing.
Dispatch then contacted Madison County Sherriff s Department, located at 405
Randle St
Edwardsville, IL 62025, explained the situation and dispatched us to 1300 block of
Virginia.
I, Deputy Grant told dispatch to get in contact with the Billie Joe Anderson from
Casey General Store and get more information. I told them to find out the unknown
woman s name, (if known) what she was driving, whom she was with, and what she
was wearing, as well as any other information the cshe could remember.
At 1048 hours, a second call came in to 911 from juvenile, Zach Michael Robins,

Heroes In Greek Myth
Heroes play a significant part in Greek myths as well as Roman. The Greeks have the
greatest amount of hero myths, it is thought to be because not all myths have such
great impression on human capability (Allan, 7). In the Hellenistic trait where adding
to the accomplishments and outstanding aspects of mortals are viewed as advantages
given by the given by the distant gods by other cultures (Allan, 7). The Greeks view
things as realists. This means that they look at things, comprehend, and believe them
as they really appear. They understand that due to the heros good deeds they were no
longer protected and now exposed to risks of divine disfavor, occasional defeat, and
the inescapable physical decline of old age (Allan, 7). The Romans took
Essay about The Urban Legend of the Backseat Murderer
The Backseat Murderer
A good urban legend is like a good movie. It unfolds perfectly and it appeals to the
audience s hopes, fears, and anxieties. The urban legend I am about to describe was
told by a first year female biology major at the University. She is of Indian descent
and both her parents work in the biotechnology field. I collected this story on a
Sunday night in the dorm. The fact that it was nighttime helped create the proper
mood for the story. It was told in a dimly lit dorm room. The story was told with an
eerie tone of voice, with emphasis and excitement during certain parts. The final part
of the story was told in a mysterious fashion, which helped with the delivery of the
ending.
I heard this story a while ago from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The next morning, the woman s car is found on the side of the road in a ditch by a
passing driver. He pulls over to investigate, and the woman is found dead and
stabbed multiple times. It was a gruesome site. The police are called in and they
decide to investigate by asking the locals if they knew anything. When the gas
attendant was interviewed, he claimed that he heard about an escaped serial killer
on the radio and said that he saw the killer in the backseat of her car crouching
down. When he told the woman to come inside he was really trying to warn her that
the killer was in the backseat of the car without alerting him.
This story is a popular urban legend. A story similar to this one also was related in
Ann Landers column in 1982 (Joyce). There are many variations to this story. In one
version, instead of pulling into a gas station, the woman keeps driving the car and is
followed very closely by another motorist. She mistakes the motorist as an
assailant, but the motorist is really trying to warn her that there is someone else in
the backseat of her car. The motorist repeatedly flashes his lights in order to keep
the backseat murderer from attacking. In yet another version, the backseat murderer
is attempting to commit an act required for his gang initiation, he has to kill the
woman and sever a body part to bring back as a trophy in order to be accepted into
his gang. Although there have been no recorded instances of this story

The Berlin Wall Research Paper
The Berlin Wall
Escape hatch no more. The Berlin wall consisted of barbed wire and concrete, it was
built to prevent East Germans from fleeing for their democratic freedom. Once the
communist government realized that their people were fleeing the country they were
outraged. According to History.com, the Communist government of the German
Democratic Republic (GDR) constructed the wall on August 13, 1961. Now
because of this there is no more departing. Everyone on the East side of Germany
could no longer flee without their life being seized. They were stranded. There was
no more escaping the Communist Government and they . It was a wall of shame or

June 14 Essay
From the poets we ve read in the class, Apollinaire is one who has a certain flair to
him. The name Apollinaire is his own creation, one that as we speculated in class
could even be a sort of rhymed play after Baudelaire. He famously pioneered the
poem in the form of a calligram, a subversion of the norm with its melding together
of the verbal and visual. However, in spite of all this, his poem June 14, 1915
initially seems to lack that flashy flourish that is more visibly present in his other
writings, for example The Little Car. Even though it operates with a flare to an
arguably lesser degree, the poem still operates significantly with a modernist
sensibility. A marked modernist poetic practice within June 14, 1915 is how it... Show

read this if not considering its poetic now ness? Thinking about this for June 14, 1915
allows us an initial glance into how the poem works, rather than what the poem is,
and without the understanding of this dimension, the poem becomes unsubstantiated,
just a set of arranged words on a page that we assume intention for. As readers, this

How Human Brain Works Essay
How the Human Brain Works
The human brain is one of the most amazing organs in a body and at the same time
the most mysterious. It is the control center of the body and it s important to
understand the complexity of the human brain. Although your brain functions as a
whole, it consists of three main parts, The Central Core, the Limbic System, and the
Cerebral Cortex. Then those parts break into even smaller parts. The brain is just like
the computer, it depends on certain parts to work correctly and get every day jobs
and even more complex jobs done.
The Central Core The Central Core is the first of the three main parts of the brain. It
is also broken up into five main parts that help us do the everyday simple things in
life like, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Limbic system is separated in three parts, the Hippocampus, the Amygdala, and
the Hypothalamus. The Hippocampus s role is controlling emotion, learning, and
memory; while the Amygdala controls aggression, eating, drinking, and sexual
behaviors. Then you have the Hypothalamus which monitors the blood levels of
glucose, salt, blood pressure, and hormones. It also helps to control the processes in
the body through its connection to the central and autonomic nervous systems and
endocrine system.
The Cerebral Cortex
The Cerebral Cortex directs the brain s higher cognitive and emotional functions. It is
divided into two equal halves called cerebral hemispheres. Each hemisphere has the
same four areas called lobes. Areas in the lobes control all forms of conscious
experience, perception, emotion, thought, and planning, as well as many unconscious
and emotional processes. The frontal lobe helps in motor control and cognitive
activities, like planning, making decisions, setting goals, and relating the present to
the future through purpose. The parietal lobe controls the sensory process, spatial
interpretation, attention, and language understanding. The occipital lobe controls the
process of visual information and passes its conclusions to the parietal and temporal
lobes. This leads me to the temporal lobe which assists in auditory perception,
language comprehension, and visual recognition.
If the central core, limbic system or cerebral cortex fails the brain will not be
Women s Roles During The Great Depression
To what extent did white women s social roles change from the 1920s to the Great
Depression when employment and income decreased nationwide?
A.Plan of Investigation
The Great Depression devastated the United States, and remains the worst depression
ever experienced by the nation. During the Roaring Twenties when the economy was
thriving in the United States, women took the opportunity to improve their social
statuses through enlightenment, but as this period came to an end women s social
roles began to change again. This investigation will cover white women s roles in the
early 1920 s, and during the Great Depression at the height of unemployment. This
investigation should reveal the extent of change in women s roles during the hardest
times the nation experienced. To fully investigate this topic, information from the
book Flappers and the New American Woman by Catherine Gourley and information
from the article Fifty Years of Change: Societal Attitude and Women s Fashions, 1900
1950 by Ann Beth Presley.
B.Summary of Evidence TALK ABOUT CHANEL During the early 1920sin the
United States, women began noticing their social roles change with the improvement
in the economy. As people s standards of living began to improve, women s job
opportunities and social standings did as well. The 19th Amendment, passed in 1919,
granted women the right to vote, and boosted women s morale throughout the nation.
The principal change was seen to have occurred after the armistice of

The Effects Of Winter On The Winter
And Then There Was Winter Early November through early March have the
reputation of being the coldest, most unappreciated months of the year in Minnesota.
Late March through October are the warmest months of the year and offer the most
outdoor activities, so most people think. What many refuse to recognize is the fact
winterhas just as much to offer as summer. Summer is the warmest seasonof the year.
Lasting from June to August, people vacation and grow crops. With nice weather,
many different activities can take place outdoors, such as fishing, swimming,
golfing, horseback riding, camping, and much more. From May to early June is
spring, warming all the lakes and rivers around in northern states. Lakes are the local
retreat for most people during June, July and August, and even into September when
school approaches. Warm weather brings everyone out of their homes and into the
sun. Warm weather does not only appeal to people, but also wildlife. In northern
states like Minnesota, many migratory animals visit the solitary comfort of the warm
temperatures in the summer. Green foliage reappears on the brown, gray branches of
trees. Crops begin their long journey of growth. Many birds return to their summer
hideaways and fill the air with their beautiful songs. Hibernators awake and roam the
landscape in search for the new greenery. All seems to be well in the world of
summer, except when weather changes. High temperatures are very common in the
summertime. In Minnesota it
The Aussie Beverage Company Plan Essay
The Aussie Beverage Company plans to get supermarket retailers such as Coles,
Woolworths and Foodland to stock its cola beverages as a lower price alternative
to other well known international brands (i.e. Coca Cola and Pepsi). To do this it
plans to undercut the pricing structure of these well established brands. Being a
smaller company, Aussie will be dealing with much smaller economies of scale
than these much larger companies. In undercutting the pricing structure of these
companies, it will find itself cutting into its own profit margins (before tax) in an
effort to increase sales. This does put the company one that is trying to sell a
differentiated premium product at a lower cost. This does put it in what is
described as being caught in the middle according to Michael Porter s generic
strategies (please refer to fig. 1 below). Figure 1: A model of Porter s Generic

However, it is still possible to be successful using this strategy (Miller, 1992). This
involves analysing the value chain as described by Michael Porter (Porter, 1985). In
doing so, the firm must be most efficient in all possible relationships. This includes
not only the company s suppliers, but also its customers. It must also build and
implement a cost system which is most relevant to the strategy that it has chosen.
This is in order to not only provide the highest possible margin for the business, but
also to also increase its value.

The Sexual Function Of Laboratory Animals
Abstract
Castration in males may be the result of disease or injury. It is expected that after a
castration procedure, the males will lose sexual function. In this experiment there
were seventeen male rats randomly distributed into three groups; sham group (N =
5), castrated and oil group (N = 4) and castrated and testosterone group (N = 7). The
control group received a sham operation and bi daily injections of oil to show that it
was not a surgical procedure or bi daily injections that caused the lowered production
of testosterone. As expected sexual function was able to be restored in the castrated
males by giving bi daily supplementation of testosterone hormone at the same rate that
testicles would normally produce this hormone. The castrated males that did not
receive the testosterone injections but had received the bi daily injections of oil, did
not have successful restoration of their sexual function. Studying sexual function in
laboratory animals is important to be able to develop ways to supplement hormones
in humans and to restore sexual function in those who have suffered an injury or
disease that resulted in a castration procedure. Introduction
Sexual function is dependent on the testosterone levels produced by the interstitial
cells of the testicle. The role of testosterone deficiency in sexual function can be
directly linked to diseases of reproductive organs, injury, certain medications and
aging factors. Males and females face this problem more
Women In Dracula
There are a couple different female leads that are in Dracula. There is Lucy, Mina
and Dracula s three female vampires that live in the castle. Most Victorian women
were not perceived as sexual beings they were pure and innocent waiting for men
to marry them and were not put into the spot light. Bram Stoker associates
vampirism and sexuality in the early parts of the book when the three females visit
Jonathan. Jonathan describes the encounter as, The girl went on her knees, and bent
over me, simply gloating. There was a deliberate voluptuousness, which was both
thrilling and repulsive, and as she arched her neck, she actually licked her lips like
an animal (Stoker, 1897) this quote being highly sexual in nature. The female
vampires come across as vixens due to the nature of how vampires feed. Bram Stoker

One of God s women, (Stoker, 1897) as described by Van Helsing. And remained that

The River Runs Through It Essay
Paul and Norman grew up in the same household, with the same values, but from
their fishing styles, to their jobs and educations, to their social lives, their differences
amount to those of night and day. While boys, young in age and mindsets, Paul and
Norman learned to fish from Mr. Maclean. This factor had vast significance because,
in this preacher s family, a clear line between fishing and religion had no presence.
Mr. Maclean taught his sons the conventional four count.
As Paul matured, he converted, from using the common four count, to something a
bit more innovative, shadow casting. The technique wasn t the only thing he altered.
He also caught fish for quality, which leaked with palpability when he told Norman

I have pondered the question, How can two people, who grew up with the same
parents, at the same time turn out so differently? I m not exactly sure as to why, but
I speculate it has to do with not just one, single, factor. I believe the answer lies in a
combination of birth order, looks, and the fact that separate people will act separately.
Whether it s in the way they fish, to the jobs they choose, to the friends and activities
they surround themselves with, different people will behave differently. Since
watching this movie, I have noticed that, as Americans, we look down on uniqueness,
yet embrace independence and freedom. I almost think this movie was made in order
to show the viewers the importance of
African American And Maroonon Communities
Maroon societies are groups shaped by runaway slaves in the Caribbean, Latin
America, and the United States of America. These different societies varied from
small communities that lasted a little less than a year to more prosperous
communities holstering thousands of members and existing for generations and
centuries. Maroon communities were places where runaway slaves could find safety,
shelter, food, and support. Running away was a crime back in those days and
therefore, if caught could result in severe punishment, being returned to its owner, or
death. The maroons in the Revolutionary period was from 1775 1783. Enslaved

This was one of the first major steps that African Americans took towards helping
each other make a better life for themselves. These communities however, were not
unknown to the public. Many people knew of them and many Americans were not
fond of these treacherous acts that they were committing. Being a slave was
equivalent to being property, leaving your owner was a series crime and was not
handled lightly under the laws of the state and the United States as a whole.
Therefore they had to go through many hardships that threatened the success of
their established communities. These hardships, as aforementioned resulted in
severe punishment, being returned to its owner, or death. Although they knew
what the consequences could possibly be, that still did not stop their drive to seek
out a better life for themselves, their families, and generations to come. For me,
learning about these communities has really helped to open up my eyes on some
of the tactics that my ancestors had to use in order to ensure that one day their
people would have a better life. This will always stick with me when I am faced
with tough decisions, and are aware that there is a better plan in store, to always put
my best foot forward and no matter the consequence, fight for what I know is right
and what I know I deserve. A maroon community signifies for me the first steps to
demanding freedom. The first steps to ensuring brotherhood and sisterhood by any
means necessary. Most importantly, it shows that nothing is impossible no matter the
odds, because although many of these Africans Americans did not get to live to see
the final outcome of their journey, their hard work did not go
The Legal Treatment Of Interns
Over the past five years there have been major developments in the legal treatment of
interns which have driven significant changes in the way companies approach
internship programs. In 2010, the Department of Labor issued Fact Sheet #71, which
provided guidelines as to the application of the Fair Labor Standards Act to
internships. Most notable was the requirement that a sponsor of an unpaid internship
may derive no immediate advantage from the activities of the intern(United Stated
Department of Labor, 2010). These standards were subsequently adopted by courts in
litigation over unfair labor practices in internship programs. According to Lorenz
Thomas (2015), there is widespread opinion that this means an unpaid intern cannot...

Internships can no longer be considered a laissez faire practice. The practical effect is
that there is little meaningful distinction in today s environment between an intern
who performs productive work, and an employee. These external legal factors suggest
that internships in the future may be, in part, a way of managing what Ivancevic,
Konopaske, Matteson refer to as the psychological contract (Ivancevich, Konopaske,
Matteson, 2014, p. 133). In other words, interns may be treated as employees in the
current legal environment, but remain interns for the purposes of employer/employee
expectations as to things like long term employment prospects and compensation.
Employers can no longer view interns as a source of free labor. Employers must be
prepared to commit more resources to their internship programs if they want to keep
them, without being sued. At the same time, employers can use internship programs
as a way of recruiting and training potential employees without the same level of
commitment as full time employees. Even so, the increased risk and resource
requirements attached to internship programs are likely to lead to greater employer
expectations as to intern performance. Based on this analysis of the external trends in
internship program practices, any internship program should be fully committed to
complying with all worker protection and labor laws. Companies should clearly
communicate their expectations to prospective

For example, when collected the toilet water in San Leandro, the water collected was
placed in a container that may contain sodium, chlorine, or other contaminants. This
error could be reduced by placing doing the water testing kit right at the water site.
This prevents using a container to transport the water from the water site to the

Conclusion: There are not a lot of connections that can be made of water quality in
the US. The water testing done in the lab does not represent the water quality of the

Water contaminants are not visible and can cause a long list of health risks. Water

Becoming A Chiropractor Since My Junior Year Of High
School
When I first started this assignment, I had no idea who or what to interview. As I
put more thought into it and looked at my options, I saw an unbeatable opportunity
to do my paper on. I have been interested in becoming a chiropractor since my junior
year of high school. Although I have never been to a chiropractor before, I began
doing research on the profession when my rural town got its first chiropractor.
According to spine health.com, the definition of a chiropractor is a health
professional focused on the diagnosis and treatment neuromuscular disorders, with an
emphasis on treatment though manual adjustment and/or manipulation of the spine
(Yeomans). With this being said, it is evident that becoming a chiropractor is not a
simple task. A chiropractor is a doctor, not a physician who can prescribe over the
table drugs but a doctor of the spine. There are only a hand full of schools in
continental North America in which one can attend to obtain a chiropracticdoctorate.
Furthermore, there are only 17 schools in American and a mere two in Canada.
Since there is not a large demographic of people who are chasing a chiropractic
doctorate and only a few schools to choose from, tuition is often times too expensive
for the majority of people. However, those that can afford the schooling may be
shocked to find that it is structured in trimesters rather than semesters. Each trimester
is around 12 to 13 weeks long and depending on the school you attend, either 10 or 12
State X Enacted A Statute Essay
State X enacted a statute in 2000 that stated, the governor has the sole authority to
declare a state of emergency and, during the emergency, to suspend all rules,
regulations, and rights as seem fit without court supervision and/or authorization.
Following a breach of levees in City B located in State X, the governor of State X
ordered that all legal and illegal firearms be confiscated. The governor also ordered
all police and troops to conduct a house to house search and seizure of all such
weapons. In order to determine the constitutionality of the statute under the
circumstances, we must first examine the constitutional authorities prevalent to the
issue at hand. The constitutional authorities that apply to this statute are the 5th and
14th amendments. The 5th amendment states, No person shall be deprived of life,
liberty, or property without due process of law. The 14th amendment states in
pertinent part Nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property
without due process of law. There are two types of due process; procedural and
substantive. Procedural due process occurs when an individual who is faced with
deprivation of property or liberty is denied notice and an opportunity to be heard
before a court. Substantive due process is a question of whether the state has a
reasonable basis for enacting a statute that interferes with one s liberty. Under the
current circumstances substantive due process would be appropriate in evaluating the
Analysis Of The Movie Chinatown
Chinatown is a drama/thriller starring Jack Nicholson who played the character of
Jake Gittes. The plot of the story develops around Gittes job as a private investigator,
and Gittes researches the background information of the water system for Los
Angeles. Through Gittes investigation, the sudden death of Mr. Mulwray becomes
the main plotline of the story. Ms. Mulwray, the wife hires Jake Gittes to investigate
her husband for infidelity, but through his inspecting, he starts to uncover the truths
within the Los Angeles water system. The characters of the film have a strange
connection with each other, which makes the story rich in depth. This is powerful for
the viewer because the potential of the plotcan be expanded with extraordinary plot
twists and characterdevelopment. Personally, I thought the Roman Polanski
constructed a phenomenal movie, because of the drama aspect. The conflict was
clear thirty minutes into the film, and the direction of the film perfectly kept the
audience glued to the plot of the movie. Chinatown provides effective elements of
drama through intensive detail, and a strong plot; which makes the movie highly
entertaining. Rules of the Game are an important concept to creating a drama, and I
enjoyed many of the subtle details of Chinatown. Polanski directs the film with a
noir setting to make his audience carefully indulge in every aspect of the film. The
setting of 1930 s Los Angeles truly intrigued me as viewer, because the setting felt
nostalgic
Mandatory Minimum Sentencing Is Cruel And Unusual
Punishment
Introduction
The mandatory sentence of two years imprisonment is unconstitutional because it is
cruel and unusual punishment which infringes upon the accused s right not to be
subjected to such treatment. Firstly, it is determined that the mandatory minimum
sentence in this case is grossly disproportionate to the accused s circumstances and
would be reasonably foreseeable that the provision would have the same
overreaching effect on other offenders. Secondly, the provision in question in the
Controlled Drugs and Substances Act is not saved by section 1 of the Charter as it
has failed the prescribed Oakes test. The test gives weight to the law s objective in
comparison to the means of achieving it, which in this case, impaired too heavily on
the right of the accused.
Mandatory minimum sentencing is cruel and unusual punishment
The constitutional right in question reads from section 12 of the Canadian Charter of
Rights and Freedoms which states, everyone has the right not to be subjected to any
cruel and unusual treatment or punishment . In order to begin considering the
legality of the mandatory minimum sentence stated in Section 5(3)(a)(ii)(A) of the
CDSA, the court must first consider the definition of cruel and unusual punishment
and apply the Oakes test to determine if the provision can be saved. The meaning of
cruel and unusual punishment as defined in R v Smith, is when it is too severe or
excessive for the specific crime or where there are specific
Caring For Pregnant Women With Autoimmune Diseases
Caring For Pregnant Women with Autoimmune Diseases
Having an autoimmune disease while pregnant increases the risk of the pregnancy on
the mother and fetus. Ironically, most autoimmune diseases predominantly affect
women (Goebel, 2015). To make the problem worse, most of the data available on
safe treatments for these diseases during pregnancy comes from animal data (since
trials on pregnant women are often considered immoral or too dangerous). These
medications, based primarily on animal studies, are generally not updated after they
are initially labeled as category A through X (safe during pregnancy to
contraindicated during pregnancy, respectively) as new evidence becomes available.
This poses a risk and presents a problem when trying to treat and intervene for
pregnant women with autoimmune diseases such as celiac disease, irritable bowel
disease, type one diabetes, and rheumatoid arthritis. When counseling these women
with regards to medication use during pregnancy, it is important to weigh the
potential adverse effects and risks of the medication with the potential risk of having
the disease left untreated. By researching common medications used to treat celiac
disease, irritable bowel disease, type one diabetes, and rheumatoid arthritis (like
DMRDS, NSAIDS, corticosteroids, antibiotics, and insulin) and then individualizing
interventions and patient education in regards to that specific autoimmune disease
and pregnancy, we as nurses can better care for, treat, and
How Is Society Justified In The Great Gatsby
Whenever you feel like criticizing anyone, just remember that all the people in this
world haven t had the advantages that you ve had. (Fitzgerald 1). A quote from the
novel, The Great Gatsby written by F. Scott Fitzgerald. In other words, society tends
to pick on others who are less fortunate but never really realize what their actions can
cause. Their actions justified their personality, beliefs and dreams. The novel The
Great Gatsbyis about a man who tries to be at the top while attain his lifelong
dream. Just like the novel, the article Frank Abagnale written by a CommonLit

Until ultimately was caught a few times and coax him to change his lifestyle by
working to catch others like him. Abagnale like others used the power of
deception to have influence on others and lure them to do what he wants. The
story mentions that Abagnale earns millions of dollars each year because of his
work creating unforgeable checks. (Staff 2). Proving the fact that it is possible for
someone to change their life from misconduct to fulfillment. Abagnale went by
being chased from the federal government to working alongside them, but it was
not the case with Gatsby. Gatsby and Abagnale were both born poor and lived off

him while Gatsby was deceiving himself and nobody else. The difference is that
Abagnale was able to accept the way he lived and walked away being successful
while Gatsby was gullible and delusional in hoping to relive the
The Revolutionary War Of Independence
The American Revolution which began as a War of Independence for American
quickly transformed into a civil battle between the American patriots and loyalists
joined by Indian forces. This war of independence, irrefutably, had a great effect on
the citizens of America in varying degrees. The revolution, of course, gave a free
rein to unforeseen political revolutions which often spark social revolutions.
However, the American Revolution has foreseen the beginning of an abolitionist
movement for African American slaves, broaden the social roles of women, and
diversified religious life in American society. The Revolutionary War notably
changed the framework of the government and secured independence, but it also
affected those that aren t mentioned in the Declaration of Independence, African
American slaves and women, and impacted the principle of the separation of the
church and state. America s war of independence was undeniably a war of social
change which overall redefined rights of American citizens. The Revolutionary War
was an engine of change. The Revolutionary War offered enslaved blacks fluctuating
degrees of opportunities for freedom. America s war of independence greatly
impacted the lives of African American slaves. The world s first Antislavery society
was founded in 1775 by the Quakers of Philadelphia, the year the Revolution began
(ushistory.org). Pennsylvania quickly became America s most diverse colony which
included African Americans, Indians, and Dutch and

Job
There are people in the Bible that anyone could admire for their wonderful actions
toward God or for their great characteristics that make them distinctly remarkable.
Job was a man who was living a dream that any man would hope to have: a family,
good health, and great wealth. Unfortunately, Job lost everything that he had in his
life. The man that went through many torturous moments had his faith tested. How
will he respond to all of this? I am going to be writing about the summary of Job s
life, how I can follow the reasonable and good examples of his life, and the biblical
theme that best suits Job. There was a very wealthy, faithful, God fearing man
named Job who lived in the land of Uz. One day, Satan appeared before God and
spoke with... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Job suffered so much within the course of a short period of time. He was not only
in pain physically, but was enduring heartbreak emotionally. Job desired to
followed God and His Word, but the thoughts of him falling away from God was
highly tempting. In this man and in the book that presents him there is a deep
belief and hope and longing, but it is all misguided...He was a man of faith despite
his unbelief. He was a man of hope, despite the grip of despair. He was a man of
longing, although all ambition and all prospects had departed. 6 I believe that this
shows that Job was a faithful man, but he was not perfect. I believe that this also
shows the differences between faithful Job and his doubting wife. His wife said
immediately after watching his health vanquish in Job 2:9, Do you still hold your
integrity? Curse God and die. 7 This reflects that Job s wife had no love for God,
or at least at this moment, and she merely is a tool for Satan. However, Job
immediately rejects her, which shows that he is the exact opposite of his wife. Job
strived to remain by God s side, and he succeeded, but he did have the hardships
that were weighing him down. He was in the dark, felt alone, and needed rescue
from the situation that he was in. However, the joy that comes in the morning was
that Job knew that God would help him and be with him. Job had hope that God
would, in the end, prevail. He knew that God promises all of His people eventual
blessing and mercy. Finally, Job did obtain everything he lost, but received it in
double of what he had before. Clearly, Job is a prime example of weeping endures
for the night but joy comes in the
Diabetes And Its Effects On Diabetes
Diabetes is caused when a person s blood sugar level becomes too high. This is
often described as a lifelong condition. There are two types of Diabetes within the
UK; Type 1 Diabetes, where the body s immune system attacks and destroys the
cells that the body uses to produce insulin. This can develop over weeks or even
days. Type 2 Diabetes occurs when the body doesn t produce enough insulinor the
body s cells do not react to insulin. Type 2 diabetes is far more common than type 1.
Many people can suffer from type 2 Diabetes for many years without realising due to
symptoms being so broad. Many people have blood sugarlevels above the normal
rate. This suggests that there is a risk of developing full diabetes in the future.
However, sometimes it is not high enough to be diagnosed as having diabetes. This
is known as pre diabetes. It is extremely important to diagnosis diabetes as soon as
possible as it progressively gets worse over time if it s not treated (NHS.UK, 2016).
There are many risk factors that can have the likelihood impact on developing
diabetes, such as in males or females, food preferences, pregnancy, obesity, genetics,
damaging effects and race and ethnicity. These risk factors and their trends will be
discussed in depth later in this essay.
It is very important to the detect diabetes from early stage as high glucose levels
can damage the blood vessels, nerves and organs within the body. Mildly raised
glucose levels which don t cause any symptoms can have
Advantages And Disadvantages Of Composting
Composting is the controlled decompsition of organic materials such as manures and
other organic matter. Composting involves a wide variety of physical, chemical, and
biological transformations of the feedstock. Mesoorganism like worms and milipeds,
can break down larger agggregates of organic matter mostly by mechanical means.
Chemical transformations in the compostingprocess are mediated by microorganisms,
primarily bacteriaand fungi. The main components of compost are degradation
product of plant and body matter. Composting gives many advantages like, keep the
proper managemement of animal waste, keep environment clean, and control the
pathogen.
The quality of the compost is determined by many factors such as pH and moisture.
pH is the measure of the acidity or alkalinity or hydrogen ion activity of compost,
the scale 7 is considered as a neutral pH. A pH of less than seven means that
substance is acidic while a value above seven that it is alkaline. Most finished
composts are about to be in neutral pH within range from 6 8. However the initial
pH of the manure compost will be more alkaline, with a pH as high as 8.5.
Microorganism in compost will grow and multiply within the pH range from 5.5 to
8. The organic acids are formed in the initial stages of the aerobic decomposition
process and these acidic conditions favor the growth of fungi ... Show more content

Composting organic waste allows for decomposing the organic materials into a
more compact form of management (Tognetti et al.,2011). Compost has been used
at the household or small farm level for recyling of organic matter and nutrients for
thousands of years. Since the late 20th century, more and more large scale
composting facilities wre established to manage and recycel organic waste from
farm areas. Particularly, in recent years, these composting activities have been
viewed as promising efforts to reduce waste streams to landfills and manage waste in
a more sustainable
Biking Autobiography
Growing up I wanted to get a motorcycle so badly. Every birthday, every Christmas I
would ask and bug the heck out of my parents to get me a motorcycle. And one lucky
day I got what I always wanted. my first dirtbike was a CRF 100 that was brand new,
still had the tire stickers on it and all, I loved that bike. The day I got my motorcycle
my dad went into the shop to get a new tire for his bike, when he left the store I had
a brand new motorcycle. A beautiful red Honda, a Honda that was 103cc to be exact.
I was on the bike everyday. My father and I used to go riding every chance we got,
we d go to the state forest or even to Richmond pond which was my favorite ride.
We got to take the train tracks there the whole way and that meant I could just hold
the throttle wide open. As a kid dirt biking was the only thing that I connected with
and amused me. Growing up dirt biking met the whole family would be together on
the weekends and I would get to do what I love. ... Show more content on

I had fun and my dad was super excited for me and ever since that day me and him

Analysis Of Death Of A Salesman By Arthur Miller
Death of a Salesman, by Arthur Miller
1245 Words 5 Pages
Death of A Salesman, written by Arthur Miller, is a play based on the turmoil within
an average American family. Miller wrote Death of A Salesman easily showcasing
the elements of drama. I was easily able to follow the plot, identify with his
characters, and picture the setting.
The main theme of the plot seemed to be Willy reaching for the American Dream .
Financial success, business success, outwardly perfect family, revered by your peers,
and in general respected by all. Early on in the play two things are evident to the
reader; Willy s questionable mental status, and his tumultuous relationship with his
sons.
Willy is apparently suffering from some sort of mental or ... Show more content on

Wagner s. He is also unable to come to terms with his own advancing years as a
salesman. He only goes to Mr. Wagner to ask for a job strictly in New York when
Linda insists. What he sees as valuable experience others see as obsolete. Willy
longs for the days when the boys revered him and they were pals.
Scott Foll states the driving point of plot is conflict (1182). This play definitely has
the ultimate conflict. That is simply, family. Conflict with Willy and Biff, Willy
with himself, and Linda with her sons. For me the turning climactic point is when
while talking with Ben, Willy believes he can regain what he lost years ago with
Biff by ending his life. He thinks the twenty thousand from the insurance money will
fix it all. I suppose the resolution in this play was Willy s death. Although I do not
imagine this could truly be resolution for the remaining family.
Characterization seemed to be the most well developed element of the play. The
patriarch of the family, Willy Loman was portrayed as the tragic hero. I believe his
character did indeed possess some character flaws that inevitably led to his death.
However, I agree with the character summary written in Spark Notes that Willy
never achieved the self realization or self knowledge to be labeled a true tragic hero
(Miller). He never fully realizes is personal failures, even with his death. His pride
Analysis Of The Book From Aunt Jullia
From Aunt Jullia when we would slowly drive around Memorial and River Oaks to
get new ideas and admire what we saw. You probably know that it takes talent to not
over do it, especially when you have a lot of money.
Barbara then looked directly at the moon and said, Do you think that bright beautiful
moon, casting its light on the plants and creating shadows had something to do with
the Creator s plan? Or what happens when the moon shines down on you, and what
does it create or add to your complex being?
Cassie, at the time, wasn t thinking of her self but about Robert Cody and, I wonder
what Robert Cody is like alone, and I wonder why he looks so sad. Tomorrow, why
don t you ask Uncle Ignacio that question, and besides, he would appreciate your
interest. You know, I think that Uncle Ignacio likes you.
***
Breakfast was at 8:30 the following morning on a screened porch adjacent to the
kitchen and overlooking the lake. Cassie was the last to be seated as she made
sure that her face was shiny and each hair was brushed into place. After a small
glass of fresh juice made from blood oranges imported from Italy she looked at her
Mother, then Uncle Ignacio, and said Uncle Ignacio, tell me about Robert Cody.
He was not surprised by the question, and although he knew that his innocent love
affair was a fantasy, and that young love is called that for a reason, he smiled and
said I guess I have been jilted again, and at my age it isn t as painful. At the moment

Zeus In Greek Mythology
Zeus Zeus is the head God of Greek Mythology. He is also known as the God of the
storm cloud. He is related to Athena, Hades, and Poseidon. His characteristics are
strong and very very powerful. He is most of the time represented by the oak tree
and his sacred animal is the eagle. He s the most common known Greek God.

After the glorious victory of the Olympian gods over the Titans, Gaea, the Mother
Earth , became very angry with Zeus, the King of the Olympian Gods, because she
felt that he had treated her sons, the Titans, unfairly.Gaea therefore unified with
Tartarus (the symbol of the depths of the Underworld) to create a devastating monster
which was meant to destroy Zeus and take his place. They gave the monster the name
Ponzi Vs Madoff Essay
Charles Ponzi was an Italian immigrant who, born in 1882 in Parma, Italy. Ponzi
arrived in Boston in 1903 with $2.50 in cash and $1 million in hopes. Ponzi started
out working odd jobs and later moved to Montreal, where he found a job as a teller at
Bank Zarossi. The bank went bankrupt leaving Ponzi penniless. However, it does not
make one more unethical than the other. Both Ponzi and Madoff made a decision to
rob and scam others to benefit from their investments. Although neither is more or
less unethical than the other yet such a decision would question Madoff s intelligence
because Madoff was a highly intelligent successful multimillionaire with a reputation

Therefore when investors start withdrawing their funds, the organization uses
other investor s funds to pay withdrawals. The Ponzi scheme was also referred to
as robbing Peter to pay Paul . According to (Ghillyer, A. W. 2014) robbing, Peter to
pay Paul was a practice of providing old investor s above average returns on their
investments with funds raised from new investor s in the absence of any real
business operation which was illegal and unethical. This scheme was later
renamed as the Ponzi scheme. The SEC does bare responsibilities in the Madoff
scheme. The SEC was responsible for conducting investigations to prevent financial
fraud. However, Harry Markopoulos reported to the SEC there were 29 red flags
that would prevent the scheme to continue. Nevertheless, the SE failed to properly
investigate to stop the financial fraud led by Madoff. The SEC was also given
several reports documenting the risk of fraud yet continued to ignore and failed to
properly investigate a scheme that could have easily prevented in

  • 2. The British Of The Colonists In the 1700s, the Colonists were enraged how the British Parliament were treating them. The British Parliament had been constantly ignoring their rights and forcing taxes upon the colonies. This set an outroar in the colonies, especially in Massachusetts. Parliament had created new laws that limited the Massachusetts bay in shipping and landing goods and also an act that for a better regulation government in this providence. All of the colonists deemed this as Impolitic, unjust, and cruel, as well as unconstitutional, and most dangerous and destructive of American rights (Declaration and Resolves, para. 3) This forced them to send Parliament a document called, Declaration and Resolves of the First Continental Congress. This document was... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After getting their independence from Britain. They made sure this would never happen again by making it a part of their Bill of Rights. This was Ammendment three, and it state that no soldier In time of peace be quartered in any house, without the consent of the Owner, nor in time of war, but in a manner to be prescribed by law. (US Const. Amend. III) The only way for a soldier to be quartered is if they got prescribed by law and have gotten consent by the owner of the house. Through the British Parliament s actions, the newly, independent country now has a safeguard to never house soldiers without their consent. The next grievance the colonies faced would be the British forcing taxes upon the colonists, without their consent. During this time, Parliament was full of British people and no colonists. This was a problem because the Colonists then had no vote or say in anything they passed. Through not having any colonists vote, they passed an act that put taxes on all colonial good exported and bought. After it was voted in, the colonists were made and coined the term No taxation without representation . This term meant that they can not get taxed if they were not apart of the vote or in Parliament. The colonists agreed and put this into the document of declarations and resolves, and said every idea of taxation internal or external, for raising a revenue on the subjects, in America, without their consent.
  • 3. The Dance Of Benevolence Welcome, welcome to all! As you all already know, it is now the time that we begin with the dance of benevolence, following with which we will commence with the raising of the cups. But first, let us give favor with the descendent of the fair maidens. The trumpets began to sound again, and music accompanied. I watched with uncertainty. Nothing was happening until the crowd gasped and a beautiful young female in a billowy, bronze colored dress emerged. Nimbly, she glided down the stairs. The people oohed and awed when just then, another attractive woman in a peach colored dress arrived and floated after. More and more beautiful women streamed down the stairsteps, flowing out into the ballroom. The colors of their dress faded lighter... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There was no doubt she was beautiful: full red rose lips, slender waist, and smooth dark hair that cascaded down her bare, white shoulders. But there was something about her demeanor that distracted from her beauty. I couldn t place it. Everyone remained silent until she made her final step onto the ballroom floor. She looked around the room, in greetings to her guests and her lips stretched wide, flashing a white teeth smile. Just then, in a wave like motion, the lights burned brightly again, the music continued, and chatter and dancing became omnipresent. I returned my gaze to Gemma. Her eyes darted anxiously about as she stood alongside the other maidens. I had to move quickly. I held up my hand to capture her attention, but instantly I felt a tingling. My hand was beginning to disappear, evaporating in a swirling swarm of particles. Before I could start to comprehend what was happening, my whole body started to whirl around in a rapid spin. In a blink of an eye, I found myself still in the ballroom, only now, I was near the stairs on the opposite end. Dazed and disoriented, I reached my hand to my head and was startled to see my arms covered with sleeves. I reached down touching my torso. My clothes had altered. My T shirt had converted to a blue jacket, and I was wearing a suit comparable to an admiral s. Why did my clothes always change? At least now I fit in, I thought. Instinctively I grabbed my shoulders, to my relief, I could still feel my backpack

I have dreams that have gone unrealized, and a few regrets, and this film speaks to that condition. In a kind of quirky way, this film cries out for each of us to live the life we ve always wanted. Get involved with those around us. Too often we become mired down in day to day minutia, and by the time we shake ourselves awake, more years have passed than are still left for us to live. When I saw this film was an option for this assignment, I was thrilled. I have recommended this film to friends and family, the casting is perfect, the music scores the film perfectly, the story is quirky and a bit off center, and it all combines into in a truly great
  • 5. The Influence of Roman Engineering and Architecture The ingeniousness and beauty of Roman architecture has not been lost on us in the 2000 years since it was built. Even today, we still marvel at what incredible builders the Romans were, and at the sheer scale and integrity of many of their projects. It is hard to argue that today s architecture will maintain the same lasting grandeur as that which the Romans built. If we can still respect and admire the grandeur of Rome as it was in it s day, one can only imagine how much of an influence people of the time felt, due to the incredible innovations that the Romans brought to the new regions of their empire. In fact, it is because of the superior engineering skills and architectural ideas possessed by the Romans, and respected by others,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This water was then used for the public baths and toilets, besides the expected drinking water. The fact that this water was for the public, and not reserved for private use, pleased people in the new colonies even more, and made them even more accepting of Roman control. The actual aqueducts themselves, built by the Romans to carry the water, were perhaps even more influential. Aqueducts like Pont du Gard at Nimes (Images 3 and 4), or Segovia in Spain (Image 5), the latter of which still carries water today, were monumental landmarks in the colonies where they were built and still are today. That the Romans would build such magnificent and monumental structures for the sole purpose of supplying water to its colonies was likely overwhelming to those benefiting from it. So the Romans supplied the towns with water, and made travel between towns easier. But what about improving life within the town itself? It is in the public buildings such as the bath, the forum and the amphitheater, which people used and experienced daily, where Rome was able to exert its greatest influence. The fact that these buildings were open to all and not reserved for an elitist group of society only increased their significance. It is arguable that the grandness of the baths has yet to be surpassed in any public building since. These were huge, lavishly ornamented structures where citizens would go not only to bathe, but also

  • 7. Critical Pedagogy And The Reggio Emilia Critical pedagogy and The Reggio Emilia approach on play based learning should be merged into early childhood education as obtaining the skills to critically analyze and problem solve has the potential to change society and thus the potential to change the world. It is important individuals become aware of what critical pedagogy is. Critical pedagogy stems from the idea that there is an unequal social structure in our society which is based upon class, race and gender. It has been formulated and influenced by many psychologists and philosophers including John Dewey and Paulo Freire. Critical pedagogy is an attempt at freedom from oppression through democratic critical thinking. In critical pedagogy the knowledge learned within the classroom should correlate with and not be separated from any social structure, culture, politics, economics or any ideology taking place with society. The idea is, that in order to orchestrate change, individuals must become aware of the social, cultural, ideological, and or economic influence exerted upon society. Once the individual becomes aware of the hegemony taking place they can then analyze their situation and implement change for the greater good. John Dewey born October 20th, 1859 was an American psychologist and philosopher. He was known well for his avocation in democracy and his theories on progressive education which correlate and transition into critical pedagogy. His theories focused on the argument that learning and education are
  • 8. Toy Story Analysis Toy Story may be a film made for children, but it is not about children but rather the toys. The characters in the film confront issues that seem to be more applicable to the life of an adult. The relationships the toys share with Andy and ultimately with one another resemble relationships within the real world. The film hints at the fact that children never have to worry about abandonment or relevancy, toys are the ones that have to ponder on this fact of life. The toys must face reality but they also have a choice in how to deal with them. They have to accept that they will not last because something new will always make them feel inferior. Although contradictory to the heartwarming storyline, Toy Storybrings its viewers to reality with the idea of things and people being replaceable. Since they are plain possessions, the lives of the toys are defined by their utility. It is clear to the viewers that he loves his toys, and while playing with them, Andy uses his imagination extensively. But like other children, it is clear to see that Andy has no trouble putting them aside when he has used them to their full capacity. For example, when Andy received Buzz Lightyear as a present, he flings Woody off his bed onto the floor, making space for his pristine action figure. Everything that is related to Woody is replaced with things that resemble Buzz Lightyear, from his bedroom s wallpaper to the bed sheets. Andy s new position is now in the storage chest, along with the other
  • 9. My Day At A Wax Museum Essay So guess where we re going over spring break? Where? I asked my mom. We re going to St. Louis to visit a Wax Museum. Her voice was enthusiastic, and she was too hyper to go on the trip. When she informed me about this outing I was not excited. I loathe leaving Kansas City. There s nothing to do. You re perched on your butt in the car for hours on end, and there s nothing to look at but farmland and the occasional cow. Over time, the journey begins to get boring; you re exhausted for a considerable length of time. Also, I have five brothers and sisters. I would be with them in the car with them the entire outing and they re boisterous. Being in the same red car with them for ten minutes, I can t stand; I didn t know how I was going to survive an entire trip. The day of the trip, my motherwoke all of us up at 6AM. I was already exhausted. I was trusting I would get the opportunity to rest, as I was on break. She could have told me she was waking us up early. I was certainly treasuring my sleep. How long is the drive? I asked my mother, Around four hours, she told me. My mouth dropped open in disbelief. How could any trip take this long? Prior to the outing, we went to pick my grandmother up. She s very enthusiastic and talks so much. I asked my mom Why are we going to grandma s? and she told me Because your grandma is coming. Sarcastically I thought, Incredible, more people, just exactly what I wanted. My grandmother has never

Outrigger systems are generally very effective in fulfilling the serviceability requirements of tall buildings. This research conducted a study on effectiveness of outrigger truss by simplified method to introduce the normal buildings that can be minimized the deflection as the buildings with outrigger. Two and three outrigger levels are used in 40 and 50 storey square shape buildings respectively. From this result, the engineers can run the buildings without using outrigger to get the minimum deflection as the buildings with outrigger but the base shear is larger than outrigger buildings significantly. Therefore, for the proposed buildings to get minimum deflection, the outrigger is more effective than simplified method. Keywords Stiffness; serviceability; Deflection; Simplified Method; Outrigger Truss Introduction: The fundamental design criteria for high rise building are strength, serviceability and stability whereas human comfort should also be included

Not long ago, I received a delightful phone call, it was from a patient I treated three years ago, he and his family wanted just to say hi, we missed you Doc. , isn t that one of the most beautiful thing someone can get in life? For me yes it is. I studied medicine in one of the top universities in the Middle East that is University of Baghdad, College of Medicine. My training was in Baghdad Medical Center, the biggest teaching hospital in Iraq, which provided me with the best teaching and training in the country. After graduation, I did my internship in several hospitals in Baghdad. During that time, my country went through crisis situations, with lack of many basic services and security. I faced a wide range of medical cases that needed to be managed under highly stressful conditions, which helped in developing my clinical and social skills. I was introduced to all specialties of medicine, and that was the time when Family Medicine started to be my biggest interest. Family physicians are not better than other doctors, but they are different. They continue to be the heart and soul of medicine. More than any other specialty, family doctors humanize the health care experience. Focusing their attention on the person, not just the disease, they are driven to develop relationships over generations with the patients and families they care for. Due to the continued security deterioration in my country, I had to travel to Jordan, and work as a general practitioner over there and

Essay On Change Blindness Changes in our surroundings are happening every minute and if we started noticing every minute detail about a scene then our visual system will be over whelmed in no time (Rensink, 2000). We are limited in our capacity to encode, retain and compare visual information from one glance to the other. Our awareness of our visual surroundings is far lesser than what most people believe intuitively. Change Blindness is the inability to consciously perceive a changing stimulus in the visual environment and subsequently not being able to report it. It occurs in other sensory modalities as well. Interestingly change blindness has been found to also take place in Olfaction (Sela Sobel, 2010), Auditory (Eramudugola, Irvine, McAnally, Martin Mattinglley... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first cause is overwriting. Overwriting occurs when the individual has no visual representation of how the scene was in the beginning. The information from the first scene is simply replaced by new information (Simons, 2000).Impressions is the second culprit. When the information from an initial scene is encoded but not re examined as long as the meaning in the scene is consistent, impressions takes place (Simons, 2000). The third cause is that nothing is stored. Since the individuals have not encoded or compared the scenes, they can t identify any changes (Simons, 2000). The fourth cause is everything is stored but not compared. Though the individuals encoded the first and the second scene, they failed to realize that both the scenes are different. Research has shown that it is possible for an individual to hold two beliefs about a scene without realizing that the scenes are very different from each other (Simons, 2000). And our final convict is feature combination. Feature combination says that individuals remember certain features from one scene and different features from the second scene that the individual remembers, not accurately represent either of the scenes (Simons,

These are usually people that are emotionally and physically connected in one way or another. They can be brother and sister, mother and daughter, or in this case, father and son. In the Arthur Miller s novel, Death of A Salesman, the interaction between Willy Loman and his sons, Happy and Biff, allows Miller to comment on father son relationships and the conflicts that arise from them. During most father son relationships, there are certain times where the father wants to become more of a player in his son s life than his son believes is necessary. The reasons for this are numerous and can be demonstrated in different ways. Miller is able to give an example of this behavior through the actions of Willy Loman. The name Apollinaire is his own creation, one that as we speculated in class could even be a sort of rhymed play after Baudelaire. However, in spite of all this, his poem June 14, 1915 initially seems to lack that flashy flourish that is more visibly present in his other writings, for example The Little Car. Then you have the Hypothalamus which monitors the blood levels of glucose, salt, blood pressure, and hormones. It also helps to control the processes in the body through its connection to the central and autonomic nervous systems and endocrine system. The Cerebral Cortex The Cerebral Cortex directs the brain s higher cognitive and emotional functions. It is divided into two equal halves called cerebral hemispheres. Each hemisphere has the same four areas called lobes. Areas in the lobes control all forms of conscious experience, perception, emotion, thought, and planning, as well as many unconscious and emotional processes. The frontal lobe helps in motor control and cognitive activities, like planning, making decisions, setting goals, and relating the present to the future through purpose. The parietal lobe controls the sensory process, spatial interpretation, attention, and language understanding. The occipital lobe controls the process of visual information and passes its conclusions to the parietal and temporal lobes. This leads me to the temporal lobe which assists in auditory perception, language comprehension, and visual recognition. With nice weather, many different activities can take place outdoors, such as fishing, swimming, golfing, horseback riding, camping, and much more. From May to early June is spring, warming all the lakes and rivers around in northern states. Lakes are the local retreat for most people during June, July and August, and even into September when school approaches. Warm weather brings everyone out of their homes and into the sun. Warm weather does not only appeal to people, but also wildlife. In northern states like Minnesota, many migratory animals visit the solitary comfort of the warm temperatures in the summer. Green foliage reappears on the brown, gray branches of trees. Crops begin their long journey of growth. Many birds return to their summer hideaways and fill the air with their beautiful songs. Hibernators awake and roam the landscape in search for the new greenery. All seems to be well in the world of summer, except when weather changes. High temperatures are very common in the summertime. In Minnesota it
  • 32. The Aussie Beverage Company Plan Essay The Aussie Beverage Company plans to get supermarket retailers such as Coles, Woolworths and Foodland to stock its cola beverages as a lower price alternative to other well known international brands (i.e. Coca Cola and Pepsi). To do this it plans to undercut the pricing structure of these well established brands. Being a smaller company, Aussie will be dealing with much smaller economies of scale than these much larger companies. In undercutting the pricing structure of these companies, it will find itself cutting into its own profit margins (before tax) in an effort to increase sales. This does put the company one that is trying to sell a differentiated premium product at a lower cost. This does put it in what is described as being caught in the middle according to Michael Porter s generic strategies (please refer to fig. 1 below). Figure 1: A model of Porter s Generic Business Strategies (Porter, 1985) However, it is still possible to be successful using this strategy (Miller, 1992). This involves analysing the value chain as described by Michael Porter (Porter, 1985). In doing so, the firm must be most efficient in all possible relationships. This includes not only the company s suppliers, but also its customers. It must also build and implement a cost system which is most relevant to the strategy that it has chosen. This is in order to not only provide the highest possible margin for the business, but also to also increase its value. How Aussie may
  • 33. The Sexual Function Of Laboratory Animals Abstract Castration in males may be the result of disease or injury. It is expected that after a castration procedure, the males will lose sexual function. In this experiment there were seventeen male rats randomly distributed into three groups; sham group (N = 5), castrated and oil group (N = 4) and castrated and testosterone group (N = 7). The control group received a sham operation and bi daily injections of oil to show that it was not a surgical procedure or bi daily injections that caused the lowered production of testosterone. As expected sexual function was able to be restored in the castrated males by giving bi daily supplementation of testosterone hormone at the same rate that testicles would normally produce this hormone. The castrated males that did not receive the testosterone injections but had received the bi daily injections of oil, did not have successful restoration of their sexual function. Studying sexual function in laboratory animals is important to be able to develop ways to supplement hormones in humans and to restore sexual function in those who have suffered an injury or disease that resulted in a castration procedure. Introduction Sexual function is dependent on the testosterone levels produced by the interstitial cells of the testicle. The role of testosterone deficiency in sexual function can be directly linked to diseases of reproductive organs, injury, certain medications and aging factors. Males and females face this problem more

Most Victorian women were not perceived as sexual beings they were pure and innocent waiting for men to marry them and were not put into the spot light. Bram Stoker associates vampirism and sexuality in the early parts of the book when the three females visit Jonathan. There was a deliberate voluptuousness, which was both thrilling and repulsive, and as she arched her neck, she actually licked her lips like an animal (Stoker, 1897) this quote being highly sexual in nature. While boys, young in age and mindsets, Paul and Norman learned to fish from Mr. Maclean. This factor had vast significance because, in this preacher s family, a clear line between fishing and religion had no presence. Mr. Maclean taught his sons the conventional four count. I m not exactly sure as to why, but I speculate it has to do with not just one, single, factor. I believe the answer lies in a combination of birth order, looks, and the fact that separate people will act separately. Whether it s in the way they fish, to the jobs they choose, to the friends and activities they surround themselves with, different people will behave differently. These different societies varied from small communities that lasted a little less than a year to more prosperous communities holstering thousands of members and existing for generations and centuries. Maroon communities were places where runaway slaves could find safety, shelter, food, and support. These communities however, were not unknown to the public. Many people knew of them and many Americans were not fond of these treacherous acts that they were committing. Being a slave was equivalent to being property, leaving your owner was a series crime and was not handled lightly under the laws of the state and the United States as a whole. Therefore they had to go through many hardships that threatened the success of their established communities. These hardships, as aforementioned resulted in severe punishment, being returned to its owner, or death. Although they knew what the consequences could possibly be, that still did not stop their drive to seek out a better life for themselves, their families, and generations to come. For me, learning about these communities has really helped to open up my eyes on some of the tactics that my ancestors had to use in order to ensure that one day their people would have a better life. This will always stick with me when I am faced with tough decisions, and are aware that there is a better plan in store, to always put my best foot forward and no matter the consequence, fight for what I know is right and what I know I deserve. A maroon community signifies for me the first steps to demanding freedom. The first steps to ensuring brotherhood and sisterhood by any means necessary. The Legal Treatment Of Interns Over the past five years there have been major developments in the legal treatment of interns which have driven significant changes in the way companies approach internship programs. In 2010, the Department of Labor issued Fact Sheet #71, which provided guidelines as to the application of the Fair Labor Standards Act to internships. Most notable was the requirement that a sponsor of an unpaid internship may derive no immediate advantage from the activities of the intern(United Stated Department of Labor, 2010). Internships can no longer be considered a laissez faire practice. The practical effect is that there is little meaningful distinction in today s environment between an intern who performs productive work, and an employee. These external legal factors suggest that internships in the future may be, in part, a way of managing what Ivancevic, Konopaske, Matteson refer to as the psychological contract (Ivancevich, Konopaske, Matteson, 2014, p. 133). In other words, interns may be treated as employees in the current legal environment, but remain interns for the purposes of employer/employee expectations as to things like long term employment prospects and compensation. Employers can no longer view interns as a source of free labor. Employers must be prepared to commit more resources to their internship programs if they want to keep them, without being sued. At the same time, employers can use internship programs as a way of recruiting and training potential employees without the same level of commitment as full time employees. Even so, the increased risk and resource requirements attached to internship programs are likely to lead to greater employer expectations as to intern performance. Based on this analysis of the external trends in internship program practices, any internship program should be fully committed to complying with all worker protection and labor laws. Companies should clearly communicate their expectations to prospective

Although I have never been to a chiropractor before, I began doing research on the profession when my rural town got its first chiropractor. According to spine health.com, the definition of a chiropractor is a health professional focused on the diagnosis and treatment neuromuscular disorders, with an emphasis on treatment though manual adjustment and/or manipulation of the spine (Yeomans). With this being said, it is evident that becoming a chiropractor is not a simple task. A chiropractor is a doctor, not a physician who can prescribe over the table drugs but a doctor of the spine. There are only a hand full of schools in continental North America in which one can attend to obtain a chiropracticdoctorate. Furthermore, there are only 17 schools in American and a mere two in Canada. Since there is not a large demographic of people who are chasing a chiropractic doctorate and only a few schools to choose from, tuition is often times too expensive for the majority of people. However, those that can afford the schooling may be shocked to find that it is structured in trimesters rather than semesters. Each trimester is around 12 to 13 weeks long and depending on the school you attend, either 10 or 12

  • 42. Mandatory Minimum Sentencing Is Cruel And Unusual Punishment Introduction The mandatory sentence of two years imprisonment is unconstitutional because it is cruel and unusual punishment which infringes upon the accused s right not to be subjected to such treatment. Firstly, it is determined that the mandatory minimum sentence in this case is grossly disproportionate to the accused s circumstances and would be reasonably foreseeable that the provision would have the same overreaching effect on other offenders. Secondly, the provision in question in the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act is not saved by section 1 of the Charter as it has failed the prescribed Oakes test. The test gives weight to the law s objective in comparison to the means of achieving it, which in this case, impaired too heavily on the right of the accused. Mandatory minimum sentencing is cruel and unusual punishment The constitutional right in question reads from section 12 of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms which states, everyone has the right not to be subjected to any cruel and unusual treatment or punishment . In order to begin considering the legality of the mandatory minimum sentence stated in Section 5(3)(a)(ii)(A) of the CDSA, the court must first consider the definition of cruel and unusual punishment and apply the Oakes test to determine if the provision can be saved. The meaning of cruel and unusual punishment as defined in R v Smith, is when it is too severe or excessive for the specific crime or where there are specific

Caring For Pregnant Women With Autoimmune Diseases Caring For Pregnant Women with Autoimmune Diseases Having an autoimmune disease while pregnant increases the risk of the pregnancy on the mother and fetus. Ironically, most autoimmune diseases predominantly affect women (Goebel, 2015). To make the problem worse, most of the data available on safe treatments for these diseases during pregnancy comes from animal data (since trials on pregnant women are often considered immoral or too dangerous). These medications, based primarily on animal studies, are generally not updated after they are initially labeled as category A through X (safe during pregnancy to contraindicated during pregnancy, respectively) as new evidence becomes available. This poses a risk and presents a problem when trying to treat and intervene for pregnant women with autoimmune diseases such as celiac disease, irritable bowel disease, type one diabetes, and rheumatoid arthritis. When counseling these women with regards to medication use during pregnancy, it is important to weigh the potential adverse effects and risks of the medication with the potential risk of having the disease left untreated. By researching common medications used to treat celiac disease, irritable bowel disease, type one diabetes, and rheumatoid arthritis (like DMRDS, NSAIDS, corticosteroids, antibiotics, and insulin) and then individualizing interventions and patient education in regards to that specific autoimmune disease and pregnancy, we as nurses can better care for, treat, and

There are two types of Diabetes within the UK; Type 1 Diabetes, where the body s immune system attacks and destroys the cells that the body uses to produce insulin. This can develop over weeks or even days. Type 2 Diabetes occurs when the body doesn t produce enough insulinor the body s cells do not react to insulin. Type 2 diabetes is far more common than type 1. Many people can suffer from type 2 Diabetes for many years without realising due to symptoms being so broad. Many people have blood sugarlevels above the normal rate. This suggests that there is a risk of developing full diabetes in the future. However, sometimes it is not high enough to be diagnosed as having diabetes. This is known as pre diabetes.
