How Do You Write A Descriptive Essay
Crafting an essay on the intricacies of composing a descriptive essay proves to be a challenging
task, as it involves a paradoxical demand for both creativity and precision. The challenge lies in
striking the right balance between vividly portraying an experience or object and maintaining a
structured, coherent narrative.
The difficulty further intensifies as the writer needs to engage the reader's senses, emotions, and
imagination, transcending the boundaries of mere information dissemination. Finding the
appropriate language to convey the essence of the subject becomes a delicate dance, requiring a
keen awareness of descriptive techniques, such as sensory details, figurative language, and
careful selection of adjectives.
The complexity deepens as the essayist navigates the fine line between vivid description and
excessive embellishment. Striving for a comprehensive portrayal while avoiding verbosity
demands a heightened sense of self-awareness and an astute editorial eye. Additionally, the
challenge extends to maintaining the reader's interest throughout the essay, ensuring that the
descriptive elements contribute meaningfully to the overall purpose.
Moreover, the process of writing a descriptive essay necessitates a thorough understanding of the
chosen subject, requiring research, observation, or personal experience. This adds an extra layer
of complexity, as the writer must not only convey a vivid picture but also offer insights or
perspectives that enrich the reader's understanding.
In summary, the difficulty of crafting an essay on the art of writing a descriptive essay arises
from the delicate interplay of creativity, precision, and the need for a deep connection with the
chosen subject. It demands a unique set of skills and an acute awareness of the balance between
embellishment and clarity. As writers embark on this journey, they find themselves traversing a
challenging terrain where the mastery of language and the art of storytelling converge.

Wasco Oil Synthesis Essay
The Wasco oil field produces mainly from the Oligocene Vedder Formation and
Eocene sandstones within the Kreyenhagen Formation in the San Joaquin basin,
California. The Vedder and Kreyenhagen sandstones in the Wasco oil field consist
of fine to coarse grain, very poor to well sorted, angular to sub round, arkosic
arenites. Porosity development in these deeply buried sandstones was significantly
affected by compaction, dissolution of framework grains, and precipitation of
authigenic minerals. These diagenetic processes controlled the quality of the Vedder
and Kreyenhagen sandstone reservoirs. The data and interpretation for this study
were based upon a detailed petrographic examination of sixty (60) thin sections
prepared from the core samples of the Kreyenhagen and Vedder sands from
Mushrush wells 1, 2, and 5 of the Wasco oil field, California, and supplemented by
textural and chemical analyses of twelve thin sections obtained using the scanning
electron microscope (SEM) equipped with an energy dispersive x ray
spectrophotometer (EDS). The thin sections were studied to establish the
mineralogical, compositional, and textural properties of the Vedder and Kreyenhagen
sandstones. The data collected were used to determine the diagenetic paragenesis
including porosity development of the Vedder and Kreyenhagen sandstones of the
Wasco oil field.
Cradle Cap Essay
1.One potential and very likely cause of the children s hair loss is undergoing
chemotherapy. Chemotherapy targets rapidly growing cells throughout the body
in order to kill the growing cancer cells. One of the other rapidly growing cells that
chemotherapy attacks are those in the hair roots, which explains the hair loss.

medical terms infantile seborrheic dermatitis . The cause of cradle cap is
unknown but it is relatively harmless to the infant. Some of the potential causes
could be that during the end of pregnancy, babies are given hormones from their
mother s that could cause the seborrheic glands to be overstimulated and more oil
is produced from the baby s scalp. (mayoclinic.org) 3.Rotating a bed ridden or

Vlad the Impaler or Count Dracula suffered from porphyria. Porphyria is a disease
that can cause many different things. The disease itself stems from mutations in
genes. There are two distinct types of porphyria; acute which affects the nervous
system and cutaneous which affects the skin. I believe that Vlad suffered from both
types of porphyria, which is possible and common, because he displayed symptoms
of both. A lot of his rampages could have very likely been the cause of some of the
mental changes that are seen in acute porphyria and he was also known to have
sensitivity to sunlight, similar to that seen in cutaneous porphyria.
Delivery Of The Keys To Saint Peter
The aim of this paper is to examine two different pieces of art. In one corner we
have Rogier van der Weyden, Deposition and in the other corner we have Pietro
Perugino, Delivery of the Keys to Saint Peter. Both paintings are innovative with
respect to the period that it was done in. As I move along in this paper, I am going to
examine an art piece and compare it to the other.
Let s begin by discussing the difference between the Italian Renaissance and the
Northern Renaissance. The Italian Renaissance was based in the south and
common times referred to as the stage model. The reason that it is called the stage
model is because art in that time period were primary focused on linear perspective.
Meanwhile, the Northern Renaissance was based in the north, in countries like the
Netherlands and Germany. From time to time we will hear it be referred to as the
Mirror model. Northern Renaissance art is commonly known for its intricate detail.
The Deposition is a great example of Northern Renaissance art while the Delivery of
the Keys to Saint Peter is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If we zoom in on the Weyden s painting, we can see just how well he was able to
capture the detail of each individual s hair and even the wrinkles in their foreheads.
Every strand of hair is accentuated and every wrinkle is emphasized. To top it off,
we are able to see and in some way feel the emotion of each individual due to the
realism of their expression. Then we look at Perugino painting and realize that it is
severely lacking in precise detail. Each individual has the same or slightly modified
hair style and their facial expressions are standard. I am not emotionally connected
to the painting. I am not sure if what is happening in the image is a good or bad
thing. A person s expression tells a lot about them and unfortunately Perugino was not
able to reach the level that Weyden did when it comes to
The Btk Killer By Dennis Lynn Rader
Dennis Lynn Rader was born on March 9, 1945 in Pittsburgh, Kansas. His mother,
Dorothea Mae Cook, and father, William Elvin Rader, had three sons in addition to
Dennis. In 1975, he married Paula Dietz, and they had one son and one daughter.
Throughout his childhood, Dennis displayed signs of what he would become later
in life. In reports, as well as his own confession, he tortured animals and had a
fetish with women s underwear. Dennis, also known as the BTK killer, had at least
ten victims throughout his life. He became known as the BTK killer because of his
modus operandi: bind, torture, kill. Dennis worked alone, and all of his murders
occurred in and around Wichita, Kansas (Blanco). Dennis Rader began working for

His next murder did not occur until 1985 when he killed his neighbor Marine
Hedge and left her body on the side of the road. The following year, authorities
discovered Vicki Wegerle in her home. In 1991, Rader killed his final victim,
Dolores Davis ( Dennis Rader ). BTK had a total of ten victims, most of whom
were women. There was a lot of evidence that pointed to Rader as the BTK Killer.
DNA from semen, as well as from underneath Vicki Wegerle s fingernails, matched
Dennis Rader. Rader s writing style matched up to all of the letters and poems that
BTK had sent to authorities and local newspapers. The payphone that he used to
report a murder was only a few blocks away from his job at the time, which was at
ADT. Many different pieces of evidence led back to Wichita State University,
which he had attended in the 1970s. Photocopies had been made on campus, poems
were similar to a song taught by one of the professors at the university, and BTK
even asked Kevin Bright, the man who was shot and managed to survive, if he had
seen him at the university. Rader was neighbors with one of his victims. He sent
trophies to police along with his letters. Rader had many different jobs throughout
the thirty years in which he was acting as BTK, and he worked for some of the same
companies as his

Real World Experiences In Literature
Literature is important to allow readers to escape reality within the pages of a
book, and also to preserve the past by reading about personal experiences and
understanding the norms of different time periods. It is beneficial to provide a new
world for the reader, but it shows our history and how it has changed over the years.
Many fictionwriters hint at real world experiences or topics and it is up to the
reader to interpret the theme of the literature. Authors write to preserve our past
and to show a common theme as well as open the door to allow the reader to delve
into the words on the page. The theme of the literature is arguably the most
important part of the piece. Books like Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and To
Kill a Mockingbird both indirectly hint about the racism in the world at this time.
The books both write about how people treat the African Americans and involves
the main character interacting with one. This makes the reader aware of the
discrimination of this time. It also helps to preserve the past by showing how
people felt as well as how people acts towards different races in this time. This is
important to include in literature to ensure that we do not go back to our old ways.
In the last 20 years, people have petitioned to remove both of these novels from the
school curriculum because of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Literature acts as a timeline for the thoughts of the people and how we have acted
within our society over the years. Without literature, we would not fully understand
what the people in the last few centuries had to go through. By keeping detailed
works of these times, citizens continue to stay educated about our past and it ensures
we do not repeat it in the

Alistair Macleod- Modern World Versus Traditional World
Essay
Modern World versus Traditional World
The stories from Alistair Macleod s The Lost Salt Gift of Blood are often related to
the lives of the people of the Maritimes who are commonly miners, fishermen and
farmers. The author repeatedly examines similar themes and issues in his short stories
such as isolation, choices versus consequences and the concept of dying culture.
However, the most prominent theme deals with the contrast between the rural ways
of life and the more modern city life. This theme is not only limited to the Maritime
culture; it is something that can be universally understood. His reason for utilizing
this theme is to prove that the modern way of life is not always better then the
traditional ways. Alistair Macleod ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This shows the difference between their lives in Montreal versus Cape Breton.
Frequently throughout Macleod s stories he presents a conflict between modernity
and the traditional way of life.
The concept of the traditional world versus the modern world is a global
phenomenon which is not limited to the Maritime Provinces. In the world there are a
multitude of cultures. Within any culture there are deep rooted traditions that affect
the way people view education, entertainment, and jobs. However, due to the
advances throughout the world a conflict between modernity and the traditional
world has arose. Throughout Alistair Macleod s The Lost Salt Gift of Blood
collection, his stories portray this conflict in a Maritime setting and mostly represent
the conflict between the traditional world and the modern world. The Golden Gift
of Grey deals with the same theme; however, it is set within Northern America.
Throughout the story there are examples proving the more traditional ways of life
such as, They did not know the aching loneliness of which it spoke and when it
floated from the windows of the house on warm summer nights it branded their
parents indelibly as hillbillies and they themselves as well. (Macleod 93) This is a
great point, showing that not only can this theme be prone to the Maritimes but allows
readers to consider that the theme is universally distributed.

The Characters In Graham Greene s The Destructor
When authors design a story they decide whether the characters will be direct or
indirect. In the story The Destructors by Graham Greene, one character that is
displayed as indirect would be Trevor, better known as T. Within the story the only
direct representation of him is when the other characters give a direct description
of him being silent, however, the rest of the descriptions about T s character are
given indirectly and are implied. It s implied that T s background is that of a
wealthy young boy whose family lost all of their finances due to the war, which is
what his motivations are for destroying Old Misery s house, and his developing
leadershipskills.
T starts off being the newest member of the Wormsley Common Gang and the
others describe him as being silent, with an intimidating glare, ...his brooding
silence that all recognized, (Greene 1), ...meeting the dark gaze of the newcomer...,
(Greene 1). It s implied that T came from money but because of the war his family
falls down the social ladder, ... the fact that his father, a former architect and
present clerk, had come down in the world ... (Greene 1). When he comes late to
the gang s meeting he tells the other members that he went into the house and that it
was beautiful, his use of the word beautiful implies his more educated background
because Blackie then says that the word makes him want to speak to T in a strange
proper way, He was tempted to say, My dear Trevor, old chap, and unleash his

City Comprehensive Plan; the goal is to stimulate the progress of a better quality of
life for the population. Moreover, the regulations cover the provisions of the law for
land use control in Iowa City. The document regulates the land use authorization for
each of the zones and details the specific areas outlined in Iowa City. There are many

religious institutions can be located in RS 5 and RNS 12 zones with a special
exception, but the RM 20 zone is allowed with provisions, as it can show in Table 4

three zones mentioned can have provisional parks.
The gun market has been a discussed topic, and yet it is permitted to a homeowner
sell guns from their houses. According to the Institute for Legalization Action
(NRA ILA), the person, in Iowa, does not need to have a permit to purchase a rifle
or shotgun, but to buy a handgun an annual permission is mandatory, and the
license can be used to buy more guns. Furthermore, the person does not need a
permit to sell or buy, if it is an antique handgun. Therefore, the three zoning chose,
RS 5, RNS 12, and RM 20 do not allow any commercial or retail uses.
The Iowa City Zoning Ordinance encompasses most of the residential land use
categories. However, the ordinance does not cover exceptional case, for example,

George Pullman And Economic Depression
Economic depression took a big toll on America, causing events like the Panic of
1893 which created the collapse of railroad overbuilding, which further led to the
collapse of many banks. This depression affected George Pullman s company, causing
him to take actions, making more of an impact than he ever thought. George Pullman
was an American engineer and industrialist who founded his company. He created a
community and environment that his workers lived and worked in. His company
played a big role in the labor movement because they were a prime source for
transportation. Overtime, companies grew and continued to grow by opening mines,
overflowing the market with minerals such as silver. Faster construction meant
building more railroads so more goods could be shipped. Building more railroads
meant having more transportation and soon enough, the production rate was
significantly lower than the sell rate since companies had more deliveries from the
railroads. When economic depression hit, Pullman had to make some changes that
would benefit the company but not the people of the community. Economic
depression sparked conflicts that resulted in the Pullman Strike. George Pullman
failed to create a compromise that would solve the worker s unfair wages, poor
working conditions, and the lack of voice they had, and this resulted in a halt on the
labor movement. Because of economic depression, George Pullman was forced to
make changes in order to keep his company thriving. He then

It was not till the autumn of 1517 that he effected this purpose, and the Spanish
opposition had mean while been silenced. But the power left in the hands of
ChiГЁvres, and the Burgundians provoked the uprising in Castile known as the
War of the Communidad. It was a movement of the cities. In Castile the
discontentment of the ruling classes was joined to that of the handicraftsmen and
labourers, in Valencia the movement was exclusively one of mechanics and the
proletariat. The rebellion failed because the commercial cities of Southern Castile
took no part in it, and because Charles, acting upon his own judgment, placed
Spaniards, instead of foreigners, in positions of authority. In 1520 Charles left
Spain to take possession of the German Empire to which he had been elected. The
French king, Francis I, had been his rival for the dignity; Leo X thought that his
interests in Italy were endangered by Charles election. The Kingdom of Navarre
was already a matter of contention between France and Spain, while France and
the Netherlands wrangled over the original Dukedom of Burgundy as well as
Tournai, Flanders, Artois, and some lesser territories. War had not broken out over
these questions, and nothing indicated that Charles would be a warlike prince; but
he had broken the alliance with France made under ChiГЁvres. The Holy See
opposed the election of Charles even more vigorously than France. As King of
Aragon, Charles was heir to the Kingdom of Naples, a papal fief; the

Effects Of Pre Harvest Factors On The Final Quality Of A...
Effects of Pre harvest Factors
Pre harvest factors can influence the final quality of a product including papaya. Post
harvest product qualities develop during growing of the product and are maintained
and not improved by post harvest technologies (Hewett, 2006). Depending on the
cultivar, maturity, climate, soil type and fertility, the nutritional composition of a fruit
at harvest can vary widely. For example Banana and papayas increase in carotenoid
content with maturation and ripeness, but the ascorbic acid content decrease in
bananas and increase in papayas during ripening (Lee, 2000).Even within a cultivar,
there is a large plant to plant variation and within plant variation in nutrient
composition of fruit harvested from the same field (Shewfelt, 1990).
Water availability, sunlight, fertilization and chemical applications are some of the
pre harvest factors which not only affect crop growth but also internal quality
characteristics of the harvested product, including flavor. Pre harvest treatment with
aminoethoxyvinylglycine (AVG) suppressed volatile production in pears by 50% and
heavy rains prior to harvest dilute flavor compounds in tomato (Romani R, 1983).
Effects of Harvest Maturity
Maturity is among the critical factors influencing the abundance of volatile
compounds in papaya fruit. To optimize volatile content for flavor, papaya fruits
should be harvested at an optimal eating quality as opposed to immature papaya fruits
which are often harvested in order to

School Dress Code Bias Essay
Are School Dress Codes a Biased Policy? In schools all across the country, dress
codes are used to dictate what students can and cannot wear. Some schools,
especially private schools, even go as far as to use a school uniform. While school
dress codes are meant to promote a focused learning environment, they have a
tendency to enforce stricter guidelines on girls than boys. For example, in many
schools, girls are not allowed to wear shorts or skirts that do not reach a certain
length, tank tops, low cut blouses, or leggings. In the rulebook, restrictions like these
are given the explanation for modestypurposes , however, there are no similar
restrictions on boys attire. Girls attire is often chastised for being inappropriate or
distracting to the boys , but the opposite never seems to occur. This is why I believe
school dress codes are a biased policy. Enforcement of the school dress codeseems to
be aimed almost exclusively at girls. At Tottenville High School in Staten Island,
New York, over 200 detention slips were distributed to students for dress code
violations within the first few days of the semester, when the heat was in its prime,
with the recipients being around 90% female ( Schools Are Still Slut Shaming Girls

Online Dating Analysis
Another aspect that social media drives is that of the human condition; one
interesting phenomena that has developed has been online dating. Although one
would hope that people are still meeting and developing relationships the old
fashioned way that being meeting face to face, online dating now represents (Beck
2013). In fact, in 2013, 23% of all people that meet online will get married (1). The
author establishes that the number is expected to continue to grow as more people
spend time online rather than in a live social setting. It could be argued that in the
absence of people meeting in settings conducive to intermingling, those who were
shy or seeking a specific type of person would use a datingservice. To a certain
extent, there is direct connectivity to having faith in a third party to match people.
Although afraid to engage the social network as a way of meeting a partner because
of the fear of the unknown, in reality it could be suggested that meeting someone
through a dating service also did not present that much more security (1).

had to venture out into the world and had to communicate live with people, the
process developed social skills that are threatening to be lost as social networking
continues to grow. At the forefront is the notion that social media as well as personal
electronics is killing communication (Tardanico 2012). The author reflecting on an

hopes of obtaining special adult privileges, such as drinking alcohol,
smoking, etc. However Holden s failed attempts forces him to realize that
his act is fooling no one other than himself. Such an example can be seen
when one goes to college bars and can see all the adults that are hanging
out there. The people who are there are not fooling anyone as well.
Sex is often the most complicated adult subjects, even for adults
to understand themselves. The act of sex itself can be talked about
immensely, as done in locker rooms or with friends, almost to the point
where one could believe in the tales. However the act itself cannot be
faked and innocence of such things are quite apparent when the situations
do arise. The saying one can talk the talk, but cannot walk the walk
describes this sort of situation perfectly. Holden s first experience with

The Frank Talent of Aretha Louise Franklin Essay
Aretha Louise Franklin was born on March 25, 1942 in Memphis, Tennessee (bio
1). She was one of five children born to Rev. Clarence L. Franklin and Barbara
(Siggers) Franklin (Moritz 132). Aretha was born into a very musical family. Her
mother, Barbara, was a gospel singer and her sisters, Erma and Carolyn, are both
vocalists, too (Glickman 1, Moritz 132). Her brothers took a different, unmusical
approach to their lives. Her brother, Cecil, is the Assistant Pastor at his father s
church and her other brother, Vaughn, is a career man in the United States (Moritz
132). When Aretha was two years old her father took her, and the rest of his family,
North (Moritz 132). Five years after they moved, they settled in Detroit, Michigan...

Touring with her father gave her important performing experiences, but it was also
a very tough time for her (Moritz 132). Her brother told a Time Magazine
interviewer: Driving eight or ten hours trying to make a gig, and being hungry and
passing restaurants all along the road, and having to go off the highway into some
little city to find a place to eat because you re black that had its effect (Moritz 132).
Everyone knew Aretha was incredibly talented at a very young age. At twelve years
old, Aretha cut her first record on her first solo for Chess Records. After that she
went on tour with her father. In 1960, Aretha came to New York and took dancing
and vocal lessons (Moritz 132). She signed a five year contract with Columbia
Records one year later in 1961 (Moritz 132). While at Columbia Records, she
recorded nine long playing albums, only selling moderately (Moritz 132). Toward
the end of 1966 Aretha turned down an offered renewed contract by Columbia,
signing with Atlantic Records instead (Moritz 133). Aretha had a reputation of
being difficult to handle in the early part of her career according to Phyl Garland of
Ebony in 1967 (Moritz 133 134). She caused a small riot when she walked out of a
concert in Denver because she was only paid half of what she was promised (Moritz

years. She recorded her first single, I Never Loved a Man,
Explain What To Expect When You Recover From A Facelift
What To Expect When You Recover From A Facelift
If you re bothered by wrinkles and sagging skin on your face, then having a facelift
will not only make you look better, it will help you feel better about your appearance
too. If you re considering a facelift, you probably wonder about the recovery process,
and how long it will be before you can go back out in public. Here is what you can
expect.
Immediately After Surgery
Your doctor will place an elastic bandage over your face after the surgery. You may
also need to wear a foam collar to keep you from turning your head and neck for a
couple of days. While the pain shouldn t be too bad, you may be on painkillers for
a while. For that reason, you ll need another adult to supervise you for a day or
two. You may be wobbly or weak when you walk. If you take pain medication, you
might have fuzzy thinking and lack physical coordination. However, you don t want
to stay in bed. It s important to get up and move around normally to keep blood
flowing to your skin.

You should also avoid driving until the doctor tells you it is okay to keep the foam
collar off and you no longer have pain that limits motion in your neck. Your doctor
will let you know how soon you can go back to working out and lifting heavy
objects. It may be a few weeks depending on the type of facelift you have done.
This might limit your traveling alone, since you won t be able to lift luggage. It
could also affect how soon you can return to work if you have to lift heavy things
as part of your job. If you have a desk job, your doctor will allow you to return to
work much sooner. In general, you can expect to resume most of your usual activities

Lab Report On The Absorption Of Crystals
3. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION The CoCaOxM crystals were grown by single
diffusion gel growth technique and the harvested crystals are analysed by FTIR,
XRD, SEM EDX, UV Visible and incubation studied.
3.1 Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy The FTIR spectrum of CoCaOxM
crystals were as shown in Fig 3. In FTIR spectrum, a strong band at 3434cm 1 and
3062cm 1 is due to asymmetric and symmetric OH stretching while an intense
absorptions band at 3261cm 1 show inters molecular hydrogen bonded OH stretch.
Intense absorption band at 1612cm 1 and 1318cm 1 can be assigned to asymmetric
and symmetric C=O stretching bands specific to the Calcium Oxalate
Monohydrate. The sharp band at 885cm 1 is due to C C stretching vibrations
which confirm the existence of oxalate group in Calcium Oxalate Monohydrate.
The sharp peak at 781cm 1 is due to O C=O and the wideband at 665cm 1 can be
assigned to the bending modes of the water molecule. However, the peak at 518cm 1
is assigned to the presence of metal oxygen bond (18 21). Thus FTIR reveals that the
growth of COM crystals was due to the presence of O H stretching, C=O, C C, O
C=O and M=O bonds.
There are some additional peaks formed due to the process of doping some
absorption peaks due to OH vibrations are changed because of the incorporation of
dopant in the lattice. In the case of CoCaOxM crystals additional peaks are found at
1285cm 1 and 1462cm 1 which are attributed to the C=O stretching. These peaks are

Tuck Everlasting Movie And Book Comparison Essay
Natalie Babbitt s Novel and and Jay Ressels movie share the name Tuck
Everlasting and have many similarities and differences. Both the movie and book
is about a girl named Winnie Foster who gets kidnapped and discover an amazing
secret. Tuck Everlasting is a highly praised book so highly praised in fact that they
made a movie, starring Alexis Bledel and Ben kingsley. How does the movie differ
from the novel and how are the two similar? The book and the movie have many
things in common. For one thing throughout the whole of the movie and the book
the characters stay the same( although mae tuck a bit less round( p.g. 10)and miles a
bit more mean) The setting is still the same and in the same time frame. The man in
the yellow suit is also dressed the in the same fashion( p.g. 17). Also Mae still hits the

In addition the prologue in the move was a flash forward to jesse in the future, but

Also only Jesse and Miles kidnap Winnie in the movie but Mae is also there.
Furthermore, only Jesse is telling Winnie the story in the movie, but in the book
mae and miles also help tell the story( p. g.37). Similarly the man in the yellow suit
has, in the movie been following Jesse and Miles for some time, While in the book
the man in the yellow suit has not found the tucks until he follows winnie when
she is getting kidnapped (p. g.33). Another example of this is when in the book
mae goes to jail( p. g. 103), in the movie tuck goes to jail with her. In addition the
man in the yellow suit shoots jesse, and in the book no one is shot or even holding a
gun expect the constable and mae. Also in the movie jesse and winnie kiss a lot, in
the book nothing like that
Modern Potentials And Applications Of Ferrofluids
Ferrofluids are nanoscopic shards of magnetic particles suspended in organic fluids
or water. What are the modern potentials and applications of ferrofluids? Ferrofluids
have current applications in a variety of fields and continue to have potentials for
further advancements in others. With research of the first ferrofluid in 1963 by
Steven Papell with N.A.S.A., ferrofluids have been used to provide advancements in
the field of technology. In modern times, ferrofluids are used in speakers for their
relationship with magnetism and heat; as well ferrofluids are used in computer hard
drives for their unique magnetic fluidic properties. Additionally, ferrofluids have

Within the bio medical industry, ferrofluids could improve M.R.I. image rendering
and assist in the treatment of cancer patients. M.R.I s use the intermediate magnetic
relaxation periods of organs, which is the amount of time it takes a tissue to react
and equalize to a magnetic force, to construct an image. These periods vary only
slightly, thus creating dim and low resolution images; but if one was to saturate an
organ with an easily manipulated magnetic fluid, such as a ferrofluid, one could see
with great contrast the difference between native and foreign tissues. This usage
would allow examiners to better identify tumors or unhealthy organs. In like ideas,
the localizability of a portion of ferrofluid by a magnetic field, associated with the
fact that any liquid may be turned into a magnetic fluid, (Scherer Figueiredo Neto

reduce the enervating effects of chemotherapy, thus improving the overall treatment.

There are kinds of materials, always floating around in the space. When astronauts
are doing the space traveling, it is the worst thing to come across with these
materials. Some people may be not familiar with these materials; however, the one I
was talking about is called space debris in the term of space science.
Space debris is made up with both natural particles and artificial particles, which are
called as meteoroids and man made products. Natural particles are always in the track
around the sun; however, most of the artificial particles are in the orbit about the earth
. So we may call these as orbital debris, which are always in the orbit of stars. (Space

Auditory Input
Explain that wearing the aids as often and as consistently as possible is essential to
speech and language development for the child. The hearing aids provide access to
sounds for the child and without this stimulation speech and language development
will be negatively impacted. Auditory input is needed to help the child to learn to
listen, if the aids are not being used and the auditory pathways of the brain are not
being stimulated then the child will eventually lose that ability. The quality of the
signal in the hearingaids is directly related to the child s speech intelligibility. A high
quality auditory input provides a better opportunity for learning and better speech
intelligibility. Full access is important for children who are learning

was generally a good movie because it teaches you about prohibition, organize
crimes, and Al Capone. These things are very important to have insight about
because these rules explains why our society is the way it is today. Therefore, I
think this was a very put together movie that can give you an insight on how one
man had America on edge. To start off, prohibition in the United States was
constitutional ban production, importation, and transportation and sale on alcoholic
beverages that still remained in place between 1920 1933. Numerous of gang

Satire, Stain Glass And The Hagia Sophia
Throughout the course of the class, we have examined multiple forms of art across
the span of multiple centuries. Three pieces I believe have influence the way
western culture has evolved today is satire, stain glass and the Hagia Sophia. These
pieces have changed the way society has and is changing. Though I did not find the
Forum of Trajan, the Magnus Liber Organi, and the Sistine Chapelas important as the
aforementioned, they have expanded my appreciation and understanding of western
art.
The first piece of art I consider important is not a piece within itself. I would say the
art of satire is very important to western culture. The goal of satire was to criticize
society in a humorous way that encourages the improvement of said society. The
satirists had hopes that this would correct social evils by laughing at them. For
example in Johnathan Swift s, Gulliver s Travels, uses different encounters to
emphasize political corruption and mock the vices of the humans in his novel. This
piece has one example of the most common vices found in humans; bickering,
gluttony and avarice. Swift wanted to show that humans were at fault for their
cruelty and failures because they were given reason. This style is unique because
many of the pieces were absurd in the suggestions. The pieces would suggest things
such as eating children (A Modest Proposal), mock social climbers and degenerate
nobles (Marriage a la Mode). Satire is significant to our cultural history because it

Entering into the world of Sleep Paralysis
Many people suffer from sleep paralysis, yet don t know what this disorder is and the
effects it has on people. People who have had suffered from this disorder don t
know when to expect it or even see it coming. In this essay, I m going to talk about
what sleep paralysis is, what the causes are, the symptoms and risks, the prevention
of sleep paralysis, and a real life story of someone and what they experienced through
this disorder.
To start off, sleep paralysis is known as a sleep disorder that s causes temporary
inability to move or speak that can occur when waking up or falling asleep.

People have feel this terrible fear because when stuck in paralysis because it can
affect every sense in your body. People have even linked this fear to death or
dying. The next one is hallucinations. This includes seeing, hearing, smelling, and
even feeling things. For example, people have said they have witnessed, scratching,
buzzing, smells of rotting death and even more. The last one I want to bring up is
the supine position. This is when you sleep on your back and this is where most
attacks occur yet studies have showed many people don t fall asleep on their backs.
Next I will talk about the prevention is sleep paralysis. With this disorder, there isn t
a medical solution. Medicine isn t able to cure these episodes but there are ways
for you to help prevent them yourself. One way you can help prevent them is found
on www. mentalhealthdaily.com, stating that if you avoid laying on your back or
even if you do, prop your head up with a pillow so you re not completely flat.
Another one is to minimize any sleep disruptions. Make sure that you turn phones
off, don t sleep with the television on, and/or if you have pets, make sure it s an
urgent situation to get up and care for them. The last one is being able to relax. You
don t want to force yourself because this will cause panic attacks. To end this essay, I
want to share a real life experience
Dicken s Hard Times
Dickens Hard Times
Now, what I want is, Facts. Teach these boys and girls nothing but Facts. Facts alone
are wanted in life. (Dickens, 1854, p.1)
With these beginning sentences of the novel Hard Times , Charles Dickens has made
readers doubt whether it is true that facts alone are wanted in life. This question leads
to the main theme of the story, fact against fancy, that author has never been written
this kind of plot in his other stories before. In fact, Hard Times is considered as the
unlike the rest of Dickens works (Collins, 1992, p.xi) because the plot is not

between Louisa and Mr. Harthouse, a secret life of Mr. Bounderby and a social

impressive critiques from many admirers. The outstanding critique is one from Dr
F. R. Leavis in 1948 that says ... of all Dickens works the one that has all the
strength of his genius, together with a strength no other of them can show that of
a completely serious work of art... (Collin, 1992, p.xii). These three facts of this
novel even make it more astonishing. A good novel not only gives reader an
appreciation but also provides some points that need to be analyzed through
critical thinking process. So does the Hard Times, it is a valuable novel that I
favor and have critical reflections on the Dickens satire, the well rounded characters
and the comparison on the different abstract ideas. I was hooked by this novel right
from the first three sentences, claimed at the beginning of the essay, because it
provokes readers brain to think until we find the answer that it is wrong to lean on
facts alone in life and that is the first satire in a story. There is the using
Bransford Schema
Abstract
In this experiment we replicated a study done by Bransford and Johnson (1972).
They conducted research on memory using schemas. All human beings possess
categorical rules or scripts that they use to interpret the world. New information is
processed according to how it fits into these rules, called schemas. Bransford and
Johnson did research on memory for text passages that had been well comprehended
or poorly comprehended. Their major finding was that memory was superior for
passages that were made easy to comprehend. For our experiment we used two
different groups of students. We gave them different titles and read them a passage
with the intentions of finding out how many ideas they were able to recall. Since our

Procedure
The experiment was conducted as follows; first the experimenters greeted the
participants and handed out consent forms to each individual along with a blank
piece of paper. After all the consent forms were signed, one experimenter collected
them. Then the experimenter wrote on the board either the specific title (doing
laundry), or the non specific title (a simple procedure). The titles remained on the
board for five seconds, and then were erased. At that point they were then asked to

The procedure is actually quite simple. First you arrange things into different
groups. Of course, one pile may be sufficient depending on how much there is to
do. If you have to go somewhere else due to lack of facilities that is the next step;
otherwise you are pretty well set. It is important not to overdo things. That is, it is
better to do too few things at once than too many. In the short run this may not seem
important but complications can easily arise. A mistake can be expensive as well. At
first the whole procedure will seem complicated. Soon, however, it will become just
another fact of life. It is difficult to foresee any end to the necessity for this task in the
immediate future, but then one can never tell. After the procedure is completed one
arranges the materials into different groups again. Then they

What Is Effective Altruism As A Philosophy And Social...
Peter Singer, author of The Most Good You Can Do, defines effective altruism as a
philosophy and social movement which applies evidence and reason to working
out the most effective ways to improve the world (Singer, 2015, p. 4 5). Given this
definition, who are effective altruists? They are individuals who wish to make
positive contributions to society by considering their course of action in an
objective manner. To make this clearer, Singer contrasts effective altruists from
warm glow givers (Singer, 2015, p. 5). Warm glow givers donate to charities to feel
good without truly understanding how their donations are utilized to help people.
Hence, these givers will offer their donations not to the most pressing causes, but to
causes that appeal to their heart. On the other hand, effective altruists do not
immediately act based on their emotions. Instead, they take a moment to step back
and critically analyze if a certain action will help as much people as they hope it
will. In short, they want to target the most urgent issues by maximizing whatever
resources they have for the benefit of a larger group of people. Since effective
altruism is a movement aimed at helping the most people, who are these people that
altruists hope to help? It is clear to me from this chapter that so far, the goal of
effective altruism is to uplift the poor. In this chapter, Singer states that money will
be utilized best if it is directed towards uplifting the needy in developing countries.

Catastrophic events such as war tear down nations, cities and families in an
unimaginable fashion while also causing sorrow, suffering and misery throughout its
course. In A.S. Byatt s short story, The Thing in the Forest, we can get a feeling of
the crisis people were going through in England during WorldWar2. The story begins
with two little girls being evacuated to a safe and distant city during the Blitz in
England. The two little girl s have no clue to where they are being sent and know
nothing about each other. One of the girl s name is Penny, who is described as tall,
thin and dark and appears to be the older one and the second girl Primrose, is
depicted as plump, blond and curly. The girls later become friends and start
discussing where they are being taken to and whether if it s a holiday or a
punishment as depicted in the story, Both had the idea that these were all perhaps
not very good children, possibly being sent away for that reason. They were pleased
to be able to define each other as nice . They would stick together they agreed (Byatt

Blake goes on in the third stanza to comment ok the use of child labour under
appalling conditions, attacking the church as it ignores the cries of the chimney sweep
. He is disgusted with this practice and appeals against it and effectively shows the
church to be appalled by the cries of the complaining chimney sweeps. He describes
the church as blackening , which illustrates the industrialisation of the church. Just as
he contrasts the chimney sweeps with the indifferent church, he contrasts the
soldiers sent out to die, while the palace pays no attention the hapless soldier s sigh
runs in blood down palace walls. This is a literal allegory for the French Revolution
taking place at the time, where Blake suggests that if the palace ignores the dries of
the people a far greater threat, such
Obstacles Of Christian Growth
According to the 2011 India census there are approximately 28 million Christians
(Knapp). This number equates to about 80% of the total population of Canada. To
some this would seem that Christianity is flourishing in India. However, the total
population of India is 1.25 billion; Christianity only makes up approximately 2.2 per
cent of the entire population, while Hinduismmakes up 79.8 per cent and Islam 14.2
per cent. Further, since 1951, there has not been a significant increase in the rate of
Christians when compared with the total Indian population as it has hovered around
2.3 per cent (Knapp). It is worth noting however that since 1951 the total Christian
population in Indiahas grown from around 8 million people to the 28 million it is
today (Knapp). It has since been over two thousand years since Christianity was first
introduced to India by Thomas, the apostle; it can be argued that Christianity has had
a difficult time flourishing as it is a very distant third as the religionof choice in India.
This paper will discuss some of the obstacles that have challenged the growth of
Christianity in India. These obstacles include; the historically entrenched caste
system of India, the strong belief in the secular state and the persecution of
Christianity. Although, these obstacles are formidable and may never be totally
overcome, Christianity can still grow and be a mainstay in Indian society. However,
more than likely it may not be able to usurp the power that Hinduism and

Students will need to provide a folder to keep any work, as well as login information.
This needs to be brought to class each week.
Students will be required to have Internet access, whether that be through home use
or through public wi fi such as a library. Much of the work in the class is completed
at school, however several assignments do have work at home as needed.
Classroom Expectations
Students will enter the classroom in a quiet and orderly fashion. 6th 8th grade
students will usually start at their computer stations. Students will exit in the same
fashion when leaving the lab.
Each student will have an assigned computer station and headphones and treat these
with care. Headphones should be bagged and placed in the bin at the end of class.
Students will work on assignments independently unless otherwise specified.
If students have a question, a raised hand will alert the teacher to the need. Leaving
your computer station is not an appropriate way to seek help.
Students are to remain on task with the materials given. Searching the Internet,
going to sites not approved, checking personal email, or spending time on other work
outside of computers without permission is a breach of the Acceptable Use Policy of
Our Lady of Victory Handbook, and will be assessed as a disciplinary concern as
well as a loss of computer time during class.
Students will close all programs, save all work, and leave their computer on the
home screen or desktop at the end of the class.
Gender Roles In Post-Civil War
In some cases, women have come together to facilitate cooperation across ethnic
divisions, as gender cuts across social cleavages. Women can use their gendered
identities and social experiences where political, ethnic or religious identities are at
the root of conflict (Anderlini 2007, 126). Women have formed cross party caucuses
around common issues and interests that specifically tend to affect women (Anderlini
2007). An example of this is seen in Rwanda in the formation of the Forum of Women
Parliamentarians who unite as women, irrespective of political parties and cogitate
the challenges that surround [them] as women (140). In order to ensure gender
equality, these women review laws and offer amendments to discriminatory statutes...

2008). To measure the level of economic development in this study I use GDP
growth. This demonstrates economic development in a state on a year to year basis.
This variable is referred to as GDP growth.
Next, I control for several factors that also influence the recurrence of war in a post
conflict society. First, the duration of previous civil wars affects the probability of
winning and the amount of time actors must fight to achieve victory should they
choose to resume fighting. Previous war duration in years is used to control for this.
I also control for a country s regime type using the Polity 2 measure from the Polity
IV dataset. These data range from 10 to 10, with 10 being the least democratic and
10 being the most democratic. I use these to create a dichotomous variable, which
equals 1 if a country s polity score is equal to or greater than 6 and 0 otherwise. This
is done in an attempt to consider whether or not the level of democracy is significant
to the attainment of gender equality. This variable is referred to as

Sexual Assault And The Forms Of Sex Offenders Essay
There is a growing problem with crime in the United States, but the one that is
unique in its own way is sexual assault and the varieties of sex offenders that engage
in those activities. A sex offender is anyone who commits a crime that involves any
sexual act. Statistical data like risk assessment can help minimize and prevent some
crimes that involve a sex offender. Risk assessment is defined as the probable threat
that includes an action that involves a specific activity. In this case, the risk
assessment would define sex offenders and the probable statistics that a sex offender
would commit another sexual offense. Risk assessments formed to counter the
various crimes that are disconcerting in the United States. Statistical data can also
prove the growing problem that sex offenders pose to the country. Treatments and
preventions have evolved to combat the sex offenders of our time since the offenders
are constantly changing with the environment and technology around us. Sexual
assaults can affect anyone at any time no matter what gender, race, or disability a
person has. There are numerous classifications for sex offenders and different
guidelines to what classifies that specific offender in that category.
Correspondingly, citizens have the risk to classify as a sex offender for example, if
the person was drunk and urinating in a park at night. Not all sex offenders
committed a violent sexual crime, but the majority of convicted sex offenders had
multiple offenses
Albert Camus The Myth of Sisyphus Essays
Albert Camus The Myth of Sisyphus Albert Camus essay, The Myth Of Sisyphus is
an insightful analysis of the classic work, The Myth Of Sisyphus . In some regards
Camus view of Sisyphus can seem quite accurate and in tune with the original text,
but based on Camus interpretation of the justness of Sisyphus punishment, it is clear
that the writer has some different ideas as well. Camus concludes that this
punishment does not have the effect the Gods had intended, and ultimately the tragic
hero must be seen as being happy . This is his greatest departure from the intent of the
original myth wherein the reader is left with the feeling that Sisyphus punishment can
be seen as appropriate and just. As his punishment for... Show more content on

As the extent of Sisyphus? punishment is only described in the original story by a
single sentence, Camus takes great pains in describing the psychological effects it
has on Sisyphus, and the mental state he must be in to endure such an ordeal. In
describing this, Camus focuses on the point at which Sisyphus makes his decent
back to gather his great rock. It is at this point that Camus makes clear as to why he
considers Sisyphus an ?absurd hero?. Assuming that this punishment can only be
considered tragic if Sisyphus becomes conscious of it, Camus points out that it is
during this descent that our main character becomes aware of his awful state, and
in doing so becomes, ?superior to his fate. He is stronger than his rock.? Camus
suggests that Sisyphus is at ease with this punishment because in this ?absurd?
universe, man?s fate is the only thing that can be shaped by man, and in doing so,
that fate belongs to man. Sisyphus? rock belongs to him. If it is possible to see
Sisyphus as conscious during his descent, then it is surely possible that he is aware
of his predicament during his grueling ascent as well. Is Sisyphus not ?conscious? of
the horrible punishment that he has been handed by the Gods as he makes his way
up the hill with his rock? It is his ascent that allows the reader of the original story to
remember what this act is supposed to represent, and it is the ascent that Camus,
although he describes it
Random Act Of Kindness Research Paper
Random acts of kindness/ pay it forward. First lets describe what a random act of
kindness is. In describing a random act of kindness I would say a random act of
kindness is something that you would do without looking for a reward in return.
Doing a selfless act and wanting to help someone or Just assist, while putting
someone in a better mood better tan the mood that they were in before you did this
act. I researched that this act may be coined by Anne Herbert, who written practice

This concept should not be done because you feel that you owe; instead it should
do because you want to help and assist. It is not repaying a debt, but as some may
say you are passing a gift along to others. But that Is the best terminology that I
could put my words in at the moment. Such as making a donation without any

person to do the same for someone else who may be in need. And let them know
that the deed is called pay it forward there is no timeline or certain amount hat is

can do to help a person that is in need or by just giving a person a break from time

Who Is Delia In Sweat By Zora Neale Hurston
Oh well, whatever goes over the Devil s back, is got to come under his belly . This
statement was said by the character Delia, in Sweat , a short story written by Zora
Neal Hurston. Delia let her husband, Sykes die on the floor after being bitten in the
neck by a rattlesnake. Delia s actions in Sweat were necessary, because she was
defending herself, and was striving for independence. Sykes and Delia s
relationship was not a healthy or committed relationship. Sykes verbally and
physically abused Delia by beating her and by disrespecting her. In the reading,
Walter Thomas states, Ah sees im grinnin at every oman dat passes , which is him
explaining that Sykes is cheating on Delia and has continued to do it. In addition,
Delia is constantly washing clothes and working, because Sykes is throwing or
stomping on them to purposely vex her. Although, Delia is a strong person and can
block out Sykes, which makes it a challenge for Sykes. There is no love in the
relationship between Delia and Sykes, but Delia... Show more content on

anything else in, and can not stand to hear another remark from Sykes, which leads
her to begin to defend herself, because she knows she should be treated better.
Later in the story, Sykes brings a snake home, knowing that Delia fears snakes and
can not bear them, but he brings it to taunt her anyways. Furthermore, when Sykes
try to get the snake to bite Delia by leaving it in the hamper, it instead bites him
instead, and he calls for help, but Delia does nothing. This was the one chance for
Delia to be done suffering, because she had spent 15 years with Sykes abusing her,
so she took advantage of it, ignored it and left him to die. Although, she let him die
it was not wrong of her to do, it was the right decision to make, and Sykes brought it
to himself, because whatever goes over the Devil s back, is got to come under his
Descriptive Essay About Orange Beach
The Fun and Horrific Orange Beach Trip My friends and I had taken a weekend
trip to Orange Beach. We decided to stay in a condo for the entire weekend. The
day that we were going to Orange Beach my friend Hasan was graduating from
Madison Central High School in 2015, and he was getting his parents to drive him
to Orange Beach so that he could hang out with us for the weekend. We did
multiple events such as driving down to Orange Beach and back home, going to the
beach, biking, waiting for dinner, living in a condo, and celebrating a friend
graduating High School. The events on this trip had many fun and horrific event
happen in them. This may be a reason why a person does not take a high school
graduate.

We made teams of two people per team, and in one of the games of FIFA my team
was down by five goals at halftime, however, we came back to win seven to six in
extra time. After a while, we started to play a cricket game called Don Bradman
Cricket 2015; however, it was only two players. Which made us to take turns
playing the game. Nobody could beat my friend Muzamil, but Affan was the
closest to beat him, but in the last over, which is equivalence to an inning, he
completely collapsed and lost. Muzamil ended up beating everyone by at least
fourteen runs. Once we started to get bored of playing Don Bradman Cricket 2015,
we went to the beach to relax in the sun and play some games there as well.
After playing the PS3 Games in the condo, we went down to the beach around four
pm. When we were at the beach, we started to play volleyball. When we were playing
volleyball, the volleyball would be served towards the middle of the volleyball
court where no one was calling out who would hit the ball. Since no one called out
to hit the ball, my friends had to start to avoid each other so they did not run into
each other. After we played volleyball, we went into the water and started to throw
the football around to each other. While Muzamil threw the football in towards the
water, a strong wave came in and made my friends and I fall into the water. We also
brought along a cricket bat and a tennis ball and started
Achieving The American Dream
Achieving the American Dream As said by American Senator, Bernie Sanders For
many, the American Dream has become a nightmare. The American Dream is finding
happiness, and freedom. Being able to find their success through their hard work and
equal opportunity. For some, attaining the American Dream is very possible, but
unfortunately for others it isn t very likely. There are many factors that might affect
someones dream. Many of these might include how someone would define it, how
hard they work, wether they were born into povertyor wealth, and if they are
immigrants. The one thing that every American has in common is that they are all
chasing their own dream pursuit of happiness. The American Dream in America
today isn t exactly what it used to be in the old days, times have changed the
definition of it. About 80 years ago, citizens might describe it has having the right
of freedom, mutual respect, and the right of equality rather than materialistic stuff
(Shiller 3). Opposed to what it used to be, President Trump would describe the it as
having a good home, and a successful business (Shiller 3). Having a good successful
business today is something that wouldn t be considered easy. If the American
Dream was defined how it was 80 years ago, it might be a lot easier to achieve.
Fortunately to some they still think that s what it is. For those people they believe
that they are living the American Dream. And to others, their dream is to have lots of
money and have lots of
Phoebe Pyncheon Character Analysis
Phoebe Pyncheon s arrival to the House of The Seven Gables was initially not
looked forward to as the lone resident of the house has been used to being alone. It
was soon found after the lone inhabitant, Hepzibah, had her brother arrive from
prison, that Phoebe s visit was welcomed. Phoebe gave a youth back to the
inhabitants of the house, while Phoebe herself grew from her visit to the House of
The Seven Gables.
The inhabitants of the House of The Seven Gables appeared to be most affected by
Phoebe s visit. It is stated on page 95 that Phoebe s singing kept Clifford calm and
happy and were what enabled her to freely wander about. After Phoebe had visited
for some time, it is stated that Phoebe soon grew to be absolutely essential to the

  • 2. Wasco Oil Synthesis Essay The Wasco oil field produces mainly from the Oligocene Vedder Formation and Eocene sandstones within the Kreyenhagen Formation in the San Joaquin basin, California. The Vedder and Kreyenhagen sandstones in the Wasco oil field consist of fine to coarse grain, very poor to well sorted, angular to sub round, arkosic arenites. Porosity development in these deeply buried sandstones was significantly affected by compaction, dissolution of framework grains, and precipitation of authigenic minerals. These diagenetic processes controlled the quality of the Vedder and Kreyenhagen sandstone reservoirs. The data and interpretation for this study were based upon a detailed petrographic examination of sixty (60) thin sections prepared from the core samples of the Kreyenhagen and Vedder sands from Mushrush wells 1, 2, and 5 of the Wasco oil field, California, and supplemented by textural and chemical analyses of twelve thin sections obtained using the scanning electron microscope (SEM) equipped with an energy dispersive x ray spectrophotometer (EDS). The thin sections were studied to establish the mineralogical, compositional, and textural properties of the Vedder and Kreyenhagen sandstones. The data collected were used to determine the diagenetic paragenesis including porosity development of the Vedder and Kreyenhagen sandstones of the Wasco oil field.
  • 3. Cradle Cap Essay 1.One potential and very likely cause of the children s hair loss is undergoing chemotherapy. Chemotherapy targets rapidly growing cells throughout the body in order to kill the growing cancer cells. One of the other rapidly growing cells that chemotherapy attacks are those in the hair roots, which explains the hair loss. (Mayoclinic.org) 2.The condition that the baby has is called cradle cap or in medical terms infantile seborrheic dermatitis . The cause of cradle cap is unknown but it is relatively harmless to the infant. Some of the potential causes could be that during the end of pregnancy, babies are given hormones from their mother s that could cause the seborrheic glands to be overstimulated and more oil is produced from the baby s scalp. (mayoclinic.org) 3.Rotating a bed ridden or wheel chair bound patient is important to prevent bed sores because bed sores are actually pressure sores. Pressure sores are caused by stress on the skin, especially in vulnerable areas. (mayoclinic.org) 4.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Vlad the Impaler or Count Dracula suffered from porphyria. Porphyria is a disease that can cause many different things. The disease itself stems from mutations in genes. There are two distinct types of porphyria; acute which affects the nervous system and cutaneous which affects the skin. I believe that Vlad suffered from both types of porphyria, which is possible and common, because he displayed symptoms of both. A lot of his rampages could have very likely been the cause of some of the mental changes that are seen in acute porphyria and he was also known to have sensitivity to sunlight, similar to that seen in cutaneous porphyria.
  • 4. Delivery Of The Keys To Saint Peter The aim of this paper is to examine two different pieces of art. In one corner we have Rogier van der Weyden, Deposition and in the other corner we have Pietro Perugino, Delivery of the Keys to Saint Peter. Both paintings are innovative with respect to the period that it was done in. As I move along in this paper, I am going to examine an art piece and compare it to the other. Let s begin by discussing the difference between the Italian Renaissance and the Northern Renaissance. The Italian Renaissance was based in the south and common times referred to as the stage model. The reason that it is called the stage model is because art in that time period were primary focused on linear perspective. Meanwhile, the Northern Renaissance was based in the north, in countries like the Netherlands and Germany. From time to time we will hear it be referred to as the Mirror model. Northern Renaissance art is commonly known for its intricate detail. The Deposition is a great example of Northern Renaissance art while the Delivery of the Keys to Saint Peter is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If we zoom in on the Weyden s painting, we can see just how well he was able to capture the detail of each individual s hair and even the wrinkles in their foreheads. Every strand of hair is accentuated and every wrinkle is emphasized. To top it off, we are able to see and in some way feel the emotion of each individual due to the realism of their expression. Then we look at Perugino painting and realize that it is severely lacking in precise detail. Each individual has the same or slightly modified hair style and their facial expressions are standard. I am not emotionally connected to the painting. I am not sure if what is happening in the image is a good or bad thing. A person s expression tells a lot about them and unfortunately Perugino was not able to reach the level that Weyden did when it comes to
  • 5. The Btk Killer By Dennis Lynn Rader Dennis Lynn Rader was born on March 9, 1945 in Pittsburgh, Kansas. His mother, Dorothea Mae Cook, and father, William Elvin Rader, had three sons in addition to Dennis. In 1975, he married Paula Dietz, and they had one son and one daughter. Throughout his childhood, Dennis displayed signs of what he would become later in life. In reports, as well as his own confession, he tortured animals and had a fetish with women s underwear. Dennis, also known as the BTK killer, had at least ten victims throughout his life. He became known as the BTK killer because of his modus operandi: bind, torture, kill. Dennis worked alone, and all of his murders occurred in and around Wichita, Kansas (Blanco). Dennis Rader began working for the home... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His next murder did not occur until 1985 when he killed his neighbor Marine Hedge and left her body on the side of the road. The following year, authorities discovered Vicki Wegerle in her home. In 1991, Rader killed his final victim, Dolores Davis ( Dennis Rader ). BTK had a total of ten victims, most of whom were women. There was a lot of evidence that pointed to Rader as the BTK Killer. DNA from semen, as well as from underneath Vicki Wegerle s fingernails, matched Dennis Rader. Rader s writing style matched up to all of the letters and poems that BTK had sent to authorities and local newspapers. The payphone that he used to report a murder was only a few blocks away from his job at the time, which was at ADT. Many different pieces of evidence led back to Wichita State University, which he had attended in the 1970s. Photocopies had been made on campus, poems were similar to a song taught by one of the professors at the university, and BTK even asked Kevin Bright, the man who was shot and managed to survive, if he had seen him at the university. Rader was neighbors with one of his victims. He sent trophies to police along with his letters. Rader had many different jobs throughout the thirty years in which he was acting as BTK, and he worked for some of the same companies as his

  • 7. Real World Experiences In Literature Literature is important to allow readers to escape reality within the pages of a book, and also to preserve the past by reading about personal experiences and understanding the norms of different time periods. It is beneficial to provide a new world for the reader, but it shows our history and how it has changed over the years. Many fictionwriters hint at real world experiences or topics and it is up to the reader to interpret the theme of the literature. Authors write to preserve our past and to show a common theme as well as open the door to allow the reader to delve into the words on the page. The theme of the literature is arguably the most important part of the piece. Books like Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and To Kill a Mockingbird both indirectly hint about the racism in the world at this time. The books both write about how people treat the African Americans and involves the main character interacting with one. This makes the reader aware of the discrimination of this time. It also helps to preserve the past by showing how people felt as well as how people acts towards different races in this time. This is important to include in literature to ensure that we do not go back to our old ways. By keeping detailed works of these times, citizens continue to stay educated about our past and it ensures we do not repeat it in the

  • 9. Alistair Macleod- Modern World Versus Traditional World Essay Modern World versus Traditional World The stories from Alistair Macleod s The Lost Salt Gift of Blood are often related to the lives of the people of the Maritimes who are commonly miners, fishermen and farmers. The author repeatedly examines similar themes and issues in his short stories such as isolation, choices versus consequences and the concept of dying culture. However, the most prominent theme deals with the contrast between the rural ways of life and the more modern city life. This theme is not only limited to the Maritime culture; it is something that can be universally understood. His reason for utilizing this theme is to prove that the modern way of life is not always better then the traditional ways. Alistair Macleod ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This shows the difference between their lives in Montreal versus Cape Breton. Frequently throughout Macleod s stories he presents a conflict between modernity and the traditional way of life. The concept of the traditional world versus the modern world is a global phenomenon which is not limited to the Maritime Provinces. In the world there are a multitude of cultures. Within any culture there are deep rooted traditions that affect the way people view education, entertainment, and jobs. However, due to the advances throughout the world a conflict between modernity and the traditional world has arose. Throughout Alistair Macleod s The Lost Salt Gift of Blood collection, his stories portray this conflict in a Maritime setting and mostly represent the conflict between the traditional world and the modern world. The Golden Gift of Grey deals with the same theme; however, it is set within Northern America. Throughout the story there are examples proving the more traditional ways of life such as, They did not know the aching loneliness of which it spoke and when it floated from the windows of the house on warm summer nights it branded their parents indelibly as hillbillies and they themselves as well. (Macleod 93) This is a great point, showing that not only can this theme be prone to the Maritimes but allows readers to consider that the theme is universally distributed. The Road to Rankin s Point is an
  • 10. The Characters In Graham Greene s The Destructor When authors design a story they decide whether the characters will be direct or indirect. In the story The Destructors by Graham Greene, one character that is displayed as indirect would be Trevor, better known as T. Within the story the only direct representation of him is when the other characters give a direct description of him being silent, however, the rest of the descriptions about T s character are given indirectly and are implied. It s implied that T s background is that of a wealthy young boy whose family lost all of their finances due to the war, which is what his motivations are for destroying Old Misery s house, and his developing leadershipskills. T starts off being the newest member of the Wormsley Common Gang and the others describe him as being silent, with an intimidating glare, ...his brooding silence that all recognized, (Greene 1), ...meeting the dark gaze of the newcomer..., (Greene 1). It s implied that T came from money but because of the war his family falls down the social ladder, ... the fact that his father, a former architect and present clerk, had come down in the world ... When he comes late to the gang s meeting he tells the other members that he went into the house and that it was beautiful, his use of the word beautiful implies his more educated background because Blackie then says that the word makes him want to speak to T in a strange proper way, He was tempted to say, My dear Trevor, old chap, and unleash his

George Pullman was an American engineer and industrialist who founded his company. He created a community and environment that his workers lived and worked in. His company played a big role in the labor movement because they were a prime source for transportation. Overtime, companies grew and continued to grow by opening mines, overflowing the market with minerals such as silver. Faster construction meant building more railroads so more goods could be shipped. Building more railroads meant having more transportation and soon enough, the production rate was significantly lower than the sell rate since companies had more deliveries from the railroads. When economic depression hit, Pullman had to make some changes that would benefit the company but not the people of the community. Economic depression sparked conflicts that resulted in the Pullman Strike. George Pullman failed to create a compromise that would solve the worker s unfair wages, poor working conditions, and the lack of voice they had, and this resulted in a halt on the labor movement. Because of economic depression, George Pullman was forced to make changes in order to keep his company thriving. He then

But the power left in the hands of ChiГЁvres, and the Burgundians provoked the uprising in Castile known as the War of the Communidad. It was a movement of the cities. In Castile the discontentment of the ruling classes was joined to that of the handicraftsmen and labourers, in Valencia the movement was exclusively one of mechanics and the proletariat. The rebellion failed because the commercial cities of Southern Castile took no part in it, and because Charles, acting upon his own judgment, placed Spaniards, instead of foreigners, in positions of authority. In 1520 Charles left Spain to take possession of the German Empire to which he had been elected. The French king, Francis I, had been his rival for the dignity; Leo X thought that his interests in Italy were endangered by Charles election. The Kingdom of Navarre was already a matter of contention between France and Spain, while France and the Netherlands wrangled over the original Dukedom of Burgundy as well as Tournai, Flanders, Artois, and some lesser territories. War had not broken out over these questions, and nothing indicated that Charles would be a warlike prince; but he had broken the alliance with France made under ChiГЁvres. The Holy See opposed the election of Charles even more vigorously than France. As King of Aragon, Charles was heir to the Kingdom of Naples, a papal fief; the

Post harvest product qualities develop during growing of the product and are maintained and not improved by post harvest technologies (Hewett, 2006). Depending on the cultivar, maturity, climate, soil type and fertility, the nutritional composition of a fruit at harvest can vary widely. For example Banana and papayas increase in carotenoid content with maturation and ripeness, but the ascorbic acid content decrease in bananas and increase in papayas during ripening (Lee, 2000).Even within a cultivar, there is a large plant to plant variation and within plant variation in nutrient composition of fruit harvested from the same field (Shewfelt, 1990). Water availability, sunlight, fertilization and chemical applications are some of the pre harvest factors which not only affect crop growth but also internal quality characteristics of the harvested product, including flavor. Pre harvest treatment with aminoethoxyvinylglycine (AVG) suppressed volatile production in pears by 50% and heavy rains prior to harvest dilute flavor compounds in tomato (Romani R, 1983). Effects of Harvest Maturity Maturity is among the critical factors influencing the abundance of volatile compounds in papaya fruit. To optimize volatile content for flavor, papaya fruits should be harvested at an optimal eating quality as opposed to immature papaya fruits which are often harvested in order to

  • 18. School Dress Code Bias Essay Are School Dress Codes a Biased Policy? In schools all across the country, dress codes are used to dictate what students can and cannot wear. Some schools, especially private schools, even go as far as to use a school uniform. While school dress codes are meant to promote a focused learning environment, they have a tendency to enforce stricter guidelines on girls than boys. For example, in many schools, girls are not allowed to wear shorts or skirts that do not reach a certain length, tank tops, low cut blouses, or leggings. In the rulebook, restrictions like these are given the explanation for modestypurposes , however, there are no similar restrictions on boys attire. Girls attire is often chastised for being inappropriate or distracting to the boys , but the opposite never seems to occur. This is why I believe school dress codes are a biased policy. Enforcement of the school dress codeseems to be aimed almost exclusively at girls. At Tottenville High School in Staten Island, New York, over 200 detention slips were distributed to students for dress code violations within the first few days of the semester, when the heat was in its prime, with the recipients being around 90% female ( Schools Are Still Slut Shaming Girls While Enforcing Dress Code ). In FTIR spectrum, a strong band at 3434cm 1 and 3062cm 1 is due to asymmetric and symmetric OH stretching while an intense absorptions band at 3261cm 1 show inters molecular hydrogen bonded OH stretch. Intense absorption band at 1612cm 1 and 1318cm 1 can be assigned to asymmetric and symmetric C=O stretching bands specific to the Calcium Oxalate Monohydrate. The sharp band at 885cm 1 is due to C C stretching vibrations which confirm the existence of oxalate group in Calcium Oxalate Monohydrate. The sharp peak at 781cm 1 is due to O C=O and the wideband at 665cm 1 can be assigned to the bending modes of the water molecule. All human beings possess categorical rules or scripts that they use to interpret the world. New information is processed according to how it fits into these rules, called schemas. Bransford and Johnson did research on memory for text passages that had been well comprehended or poorly comprehended. Their major finding was that memory was superior for passages that were made easy to comprehend. For our experiment we used two different groups of students. We gave them different titles and read them a passage with the intentions of finding out how many ideas they were able to recall. Since our first ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In completing this experiment all the students received a small amount of extra credit points toward their course. Procedure The experiment was conducted as follows; first the experimenters greeted the participants and handed out consent forms to each individual along with a blank piece of paper. After all the consent forms were signed, one experimenter collected them. Then the experimenter wrote on the board either the specific title (doing laundry), or the non specific title (a simple procedure). The titles remained on the board for five seconds, and then were erased. At that point they were then asked to listen to a passage: The procedure is actually quite simple. First you arrange things into different groups. Of course, one pile may be sufficient depending on how much there is to do. If you have to go somewhere else due to lack of facilities that is the next step; otherwise you are pretty well set. It is important not to overdo things. That is, it is better to do too few things at once than too many. In the short run this may not seem important but complications can easily arise. A mistake can be expensive as well. At first the whole procedure will seem complicated. Soon, however, it will become just another fact of life. It is difficult to foresee any end to the necessity for this task in the immediate future, but then one can never tell. After the procedure is completed one arranges the materials into different groups again. Then they

  • 37. What Is Effective Altruism As A Philosophy And Social... Peter Singer, author of The Most Good You Can Do, defines effective altruism as a philosophy and social movement which applies evidence and reason to working out the most effective ways to improve the world (Singer, 2015, p. 4 5). Given this definition, who are effective altruists? They are individuals who wish to make positive contributions to society by considering their course of action in an objective manner. To make this clearer, Singer contrasts effective altruists from warm glow givers (Singer, 2015, p. 5). Warm glow givers donate to charities to feel good without truly understanding how their donations are utilized to help people. Hence, these givers will offer their donations not to the most pressing causes, but to causes that appeal to their heart. On the other hand, effective altruists do not immediately act based on their emotions. Instead, they take a moment to step back and critically analyze if a certain action will help as much people as they hope it will. In short, they want to target the most urgent issues by maximizing whatever resources they have for the benefit of a larger group of people. Since effective altruism is a movement aimed at helping the most people, who are these people that altruists hope to help? It is clear to me from this chapter that so far, the goal of effective altruism is to uplift the poor. In this chapter, Singer states that money will be utilized best if it is directed towards uplifting the needy in developing countries.

Further, since 1951, there has not been a significant increase in the rate of Christians when compared with the total Indian population as it has hovered around 2.3 per cent (Knapp). It is worth noting however that since 1951 the total Christian population in Indiahas grown from around 8 million people to the 28 million it is today (Knapp). First, the duration of previous civil wars affects the probability of winning and the amount of time actors must fight to achieve victory should they choose to resume fighting. • 47. Sexual Assault And The Forms Of Sex Offenders Essay There is a growing problem with crime in the United States, but the one that is unique in its own way is sexual assault and the varieties of sex offenders that engage in those activities. A sex offender is anyone who commits a crime that involves any sexual act. Statistical data like risk assessment can help minimize and prevent some crimes that involve a sex offender. Risk assessment is defined as the probable threat that includes an action that involves a specific activity. In this case, the risk assessment would define sex offenders and the probable statistics that a sex offender would commit another sexual offense. Risk assessments formed to counter the various crimes that are disconcerting in the United States. Statistical data can also prove the growing problem that sex offenders pose to the country. Treatments and preventions have evolved to combat the sex offenders of our time since the offenders are constantly changing with the environment and technology around us. Sexual assaults can affect anyone at any time no matter what gender, race, or disability a person has. There are numerous classifications for sex offenders and different guidelines to what classifies that specific offender in that category. Correspondingly, citizens have the risk to classify as a sex offender for example, if the person was drunk and urinating in a park at night. Not all sex offenders committed a violent sexual crime, but the majority of convicted sex offenders had multiple offenses

In some regards Camus view of Sisyphus can seem quite accurate and in tune with the original text, but based on Camus interpretation of the justness of Sisyphus punishment, it is clear that the writer has some different ideas as well. Camus concludes that this punishment does not have the effect the Gods had intended, and ultimately the tragic hero must be seen as being happy . This is his greatest departure from the intent of the original myth wherein the reader is left with the feeling that Sisyphus punishment can be seen as appropriate and just. As his punishment for... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As the extent of Sisyphus? punishment is only described in the original story by a single sentence, Camus takes great pains in describing the psychological effects it has on Sisyphus, and the mental state he must be in to endure such an ordeal. In describing this, Camus focuses on the point at which Sisyphus makes his decent back to gather his great rock. It is at this point that Camus makes clear as to why he considers Sisyphus an ?absurd hero?. Assuming that this punishment can only be considered tragic if Sisyphus becomes conscious of it, Camus points out that it is during this descent that our main character becomes aware of his awful state, and in doing so becomes, ?superior to his fate. He is stronger than his rock.? Camus suggests that Sisyphus is at ease with this punishment because in this ?absurd? universe, man?s fate is the only thing that can be shaped by man, and in doing so, that fate belongs to man. Sisyphus? rock belongs to him. If it is possible to see Sisyphus as conscious during his descent, then it is surely possible that he is aware of his predicament during his grueling ascent as well. Is Sisyphus not ?conscious? of the horrible punishment that he has been handed by the Gods as he makes his way up the hill with his rock? It is his ascent that allows the reader of the original story to remember what this act is supposed to represent, and it is the ascent that Camus, although he describes it
