Solidarity In The Film It s A Wonderful Life
Solidarity isn t just a definition, caring about others and putting them before yourself is important to
all. In the movie It s a wonderful life , a character named George Bailey lives in a small town named
Bedford Falls. George had a brother named Harry, a later to be wife named Marry, and 4 children, 2
boys and 2 girls. Growing up, George always had dreamed about traveling and building buildings or
bridges but George s plans were always delayed because of family and business. He helped a lot of
people and saved some to, he always put others before himself. I personally think George did live a
life of solidarity for all the people he s helped and saved when he was growing up, when he took over
his dad s company named the bailey building and loan company which built houses and gave loans to
people rejected by the bank, and after he married Marry and had kids. ... Show more content on

George then jumped in to save him but George also lost hearing in his left ear because of that. This
was not the only example of solidarity made by George in his childhood as one day, when George was
working at a drug shop, the druggist son died so the druggist was drinking away his feeling at work,
while making pills for a young boy that was sick, Mr. Gower, the druggist, put poison in the pills by
accident and George saw this, he did not deliver the pills even tho George got beat for not delivering
them, he cared more about others then himself which is living in

Company Background Of Tier1 Performance Solutions
Company Background TiER1 Performance Solutions was founded in the middle of 2002 by three
individuals: Kevin Moore whose background is in entrepreneurship with expertise in human
performance, Norm Desmarais, with an expertise in technology, and Greg Harmeyer, the pure business
person. Staying very close to the roots of Human Performance, TiER1 has expertise in Strategic
Change, Organizational Effectiveness, and Corporate Learning. Leveraging psychology, best in class
instructional design, leading edge technologies and processes, TiER1 has grown from nothing to a 22
million dollar a year company. TiER1 is headquartered in Covington, KY and has offices in Denver,
Chicago, Indianapolis, Pittsburgh, and Tampa. TiER1 employs 160 individuals across the enterprise.
Current Growth and Acquisition From the inception of the company TiER1 has been focused on
growth. As a services company this growth has been largely organic and required any profits to be
invested back into the organization. This was a commitment that continues to be shared by the three
founders. In 2010, TiER1 took an $875,000 investment from Kentucky Highlands Investment
Corporation. This strategic move changed TiER1 into an organization that needed to focus on
repeatable processes to drive more capital into the business. The investment allowed TiER1 to make a
series of acquisitions. According to Greg Harmeyer, CEO, the infusion of capital into the business had
an impact not only on our capital structure

Example Of A Political Cartoon
c. In this political cartoon, there is an American citizen depicted in both 2008 and 2016 expressing his
views of that year s president elect. In 2008, the citizen says, Anyone can become president, and
Barack Obama is pictured by his side. The citizen is grinning, looking at President Obama with wide
eyes and excitement. Alongside that depiction, the citizen is again shown in 2016. He is saying again,
Anyone can become president, however this time Donald Trump is standing by his side. This time the
citizen is sad and looks disappointed.
d. The cartoonist of this political cartoon is demonstrating the views of many American people after
Donald Trump was elected president compared to their views when Barack Obama was elected. In
2008, most were excited that we would have the first African American president. It showed, like the
citizen in the cartoon is saying, that anyone can become president in the United States. It demonstrated
the large racial barrier that was broken by Obama ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The cartoonist in this political cartoon is clearly depicting the brutality and aftermath of this election.
By showing Hillary and Trump with bruises and cuts each of their own, it shows that each of them
took violent swings at the other. This means that they each were nasty to each other during the election
and made some pretty big impacts on the other s campaign. By showing Uncle Sam, who is in a USA
Democracy shirt, being the most beat up out of the three of them, it shows how America and the
American government has taken the biggest beating of them all during this election. American
democracy has been seriously wounded by this election because of the harshness of each of the
candidates and the illegitimacy of each of them as well. Both of them have not been a good and
genuine example of what the American democracy calls for in a leader. The point of view of the
cartoonist is that both Trump and Hillary hurt each other during the campaign, however they hurt
America the

Pain, Acute Pain And Chronic Pain
Pain is an experience that involves both the mind and the body. It is an uncomfortable feeling that
signals your brain that there may be something wrong with your body. Pain is an irritating and
unpleasant sensory and emotional experience which may be caused by a damage in the tissues, one s
beliefs or thoughts, or environmental stressors such as one s job or traffic. Pain is a significant stress
both physically and emotionally. It may cause discomfort, distress or agony. It may be steady or
throbbing. It maybe stabbing, aching or pinching.
In the past, many people thought that pain was a result of a damaged tissues. However now the
researchers have come to find out that pain is an intricate process that might or might not include
tissue damage and most likely involves social, psychological and emotional factors, which can either
cause, increase, or decrease painful sensations.
There are two types of pain, acute pain and chronic pain.
Acute pain is a short lasting pain, which can be easily described and observed. Acute pain begins
suddenly and is a sharp pain. It s a warning of a disease or a threat to the body. Acute pain might be
just mild and may last for a moment, or it may be severe and last for weeks or months. Acute pain
does not last longer than 6 months. If the pain lasts longer than 6 months than it may proceed on to
chronic pain.
Chronic pain tends to affect a person s whole life including a change in their personality, the activities
they used to

Reader-Response to John Updike’s “a P” Essay examples
Reader Response to John Updike s A amp;P
Sammy, you don t want to do this to your Mom and Dad, he tells me. It s true, I don t. But it seems to
me that once you begin a gesture it s fatal not to go through with it (323). This statement made by
Sammy after quitting his job, was made towards the end of John Updike s story A amp;P . Sammy had
quit his job, a job that his parents helped him to get. Sammy opened up a whole new world; a world
that I don t think Sammy was ready for. He made a quick and irrational decision, rather if it affected
his life or not we would never know. One could make the assumption that yes he was affected,
because he possibly brought shame to his parents. With it being a small town word gets around fast a

Take Sammy for example, just because he quit his job that his parents helped him to get, this didn t
mean that he would have never be successful in life. Sammy lived in a small town in New England;
there were not a lot of large businesses there, just a small quaint town. If I had of been in the same
predicament, and had quit my job. I would have moved to a bigger town that offered a broader
working experience, a broader lifestyle. That opportunity would have given me a way to make a better
life for myself. With Sammy being so socially incompetent that would have given him a better
opportunity to interact and become more sociable with other people. Sammy s experience gave me a
personal insight to an experience I once had while being employed at Kroger. The location of the
Kroger I was working at was just about to have a grand opening. We had all gathered to the front of
the store to have a store meeting to prepare for the opening. Our manager at the time was speaking to
us and just telling us about how he was expecting everyone to be on his or her tasks. He wanted to
make sure that no one had any questions or concerns of their jobs. A couple of questions were asked to
the manager and he answered them one by one accordingly. All of a sudden he begins to express his
feelings of how we would like for us to act, saying things like, Act like you all have some type of
manners . I am listening to him and then he just says

Difference Between Aggregate Demand And The Price Level
Question (3)
A) What is Aggregate Demand?
Aggregate demand is the total amount that all consumers, businesses, government agencies, and
foreigners spend on final goods and services.
Aggregate demand is represented by the aggregate demand curve, and it describes the relationship
between price levels and the quantity of output that firms are willing to provide. Aggregate demand is
not a fixed number because it depends on the price level.
The relationship between aggregate demand and the price level normally is a negative relationship,
which creates a downward sloping aggregate demand curve.
B) Develop a model showing the importance and effects of Aggregate Demand on the overall
economy.
The model is aggregate supply/ aggregate demand ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It stimulates the aggregate demand and thereby increases overall economic activities and growth.
Fiscal policy, as it will be explained below, could affect the whole economy through affecting the
aggregate demand. For example, increasing government spending lead to increase the aggregate
demand and thereby boost the entire economy (more details about this example and how the
expansionary and contractionary fiscal policy could affect aggregate demand and thereby affect the
overall economy are in the answers of sections d and e)
C) What is Fiscal Policy? What are the goals of Fiscal Policy? What are the tools of Fiscal Policy?
Fiscal policy is the government s plan for spending and taxation (which in the United States is set by
the Federal Reserve). Fiscal policy is helping to steer aggregate demand in the desired direction of the
economy because the increasing or decreasing in spending and taxes levels influences the economy.
Thus, the main goals of this policy are to help the government to manage inflation, employment and
the flow of money through the economic system.
There are two main tools of fiscal policy, taxes and spending. Taxes affect the economy by
determining the total money that the government has to spend and how much money each person has
to spend. Secondly, government spending as a tool for fiscal policy can be used to drive government
money to certain sectors that need an economic boost. These sectors who receives those dollars

Analysis Of To Every Thing There Is A Season By Alistair...
Children everywhere wish to follow in the footsteps of Peter Pan and never grow up. Unfortunately,
this phenomenon is found only within the confines of fiction. In the short story, To Every Thing There
Is a Season , by Alistair Macleod, the protagonist craves just that, to not grow up. He holds on to his
belief in Santa Claus as tightly as he can. Alistair is on the cusp of maturity, and not quite ready to take
the leap. The theme in this short story is that while some cling to childhood, there is no escaping
growing up. This is revealed through the symbolism of Santa, the character Alistair, and the plot of
this story. The theme that growing up is inevitable is revealed through the symbolism of Santa Claus,
who represents the innocence of

Essay on Disobedience in William Shakespeare s King Lear
Disobedience in William Shakespeare s King Lear How sharper than a serpent s tooth it is to have a
thankless child . Filial disobedience is a key theme in the play King Lear and in both the times it was
set and written, children were not expected to disobey their fathers. Jacobean England was an
extremely hierarchical society meaning that respect should not only be shown to the powerful and rich
but also to parents and the elderly. Seventeenth century England would have been more devout in
terms of religion than today and undoubtedly a Jacobean audience would have been familiar with the
fifth commandment, Honour thy father and mother . Lear, like any king, Pagan or otherwise, would

This is the source of Lear s outrage and he cannot believe that his most beloved daughter would not
only go against his wishes, but also against the basic expectations he has of his children. This helps
Shakespeare to show what an unstable character Lear is because he does not realise that Cordelia has
actually done what he has asked and told him how much she loves him. Lear s emotions at this point
swing between the extremes of love and anger because of this: Here I disclaim all my paternal care,
Propinquity and property of blood And as a stranger to my heart and me. I.i.109 111 In his rage, Lear
is willing to give up his love for his daughter even though he loves her immensely. It illustrates the
fury and rash judgements that have become ingrained in his nature whilst king. He wants to prove to
the court and possibly himself that, even though he is abdicating, he still wants to be seen as
omnipotent. His self importance and need for praise leads him to thinking that Cordelia has shamed
him and therefore banishes her. In spite of Goneril and Regan s obvious lies, Lear foolishly divides the
kingdom between. Where Lear falls for their shallow lies, the audience sees through them and their
sympathy lies with Cordelia. The audience also learn that the family dynamics depend on whether

Jared Diamond Collapse Summary
Collapse: How Societies Choose to Fail Or Succeed Author: Jared Diamond Published in New York,
2005 Pages: 570 Summary: This book follows the events of several civilizations from the past and
present, and how they either failed or succeeded to survive. The book starts with the author talking
about the Huls and Gardar Farm, and how even though they were thousands of miles apart, they had
many similar strengths which made them the superior farm in the area. The author then reveals that the
Huls farm was a growing farm in the modern U.S. and the Gardar Farm was a Norse farm in greenland
that was abandoned over 500 years ago. After revealing the differences between the two farms,
Diamond then states that any society, even one seeming ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If we return to our five point checklist of factors to be considered in connection with environmental
collapses, two of those factors attacks by neighboring enemy societies, and loss of support from
neighboring friendly societies played no role in Easter s collapse, because there is no evidence that
there were any enemies or friends in contact with Easter Island society after its founding.... For a role
of a third factor, climate change, we also have no evidence at present, though it may emerge in the
future. That leaves us with just two main sets of factors behind Easter s collapse: human
environmental impacts, especially deforestation and destruction of bird populations; and the political,
social, and religious factors behind the impacts, such as the impossibility of emigration as an escape
valve because of Easter s isolation, a focus on statue construction for reasons already discussed, and
competition between clans and chiefs driving the erection of bigger statues requiring more wood,
rope,and food. (Jared Diamond, Pg.

The Characteristics Of Military Warfare During The...
Due to the lack of better tactics, 4,435 soldiers were killed from battle wounds during the American
Revolution. The most common tactic during the American Revolution was line infantry, which was no
longer a viable tactic to use in future battles due to many deaths, and how it ultimately let the larger
army be victorious. This lead to new tactics specifically trench warfare which was first used during the
American Revolution and has now become the most used tactic in war, especially during the world
wars. There was another form of fighting called guerrilla warfare which was important for the
colonists to defeat the British because they knew the area much better than the British and could get
the upper hand. These military tactics used by the colonists in the American Revolution laid down the
foundation for advancement in tactical warfare. Line infantry helped at the time due to the weapons
used then, but in modern combat, the tactic has become obsolete. During the American Revolution,
weapons were not reliable or advanced enough to be used in quick combat where targets could be
moving. The first firearm to be used in the American Revolution was the Brown Bess musket and
weighed around 10.5 pounds, and was most effective within 50 yards, but could be used by a skilled
musketeer up to 175 yards. It took a long amount of time for the musketeer to reload the weapon if
once it was fired. A rifleman could shoot up to 2 5 rounds per minute, leaving them vulnerable to rush
attacks.

Women s Role In Ww2
On December 7, 1941, Japanese planes attacked Pearl Harbor, killing thousands at the base and
prompting the United States to declare war against Japan. The United States joined the Allied Powers
in World War II and their presence helped to turn the tides against Germany and the Axis Powers.
Upwards of 16 million American men left their homes and joined the military to fight for their
country. To fill their places, women took on a multitude of new responsibilities in order to keep the
homefront stable and prosperous while the war waged abroad. Encouraged by the likes of Rosie the
Riveter , women took jobs in industries that were previously exclusive to men, including factories that
created weapons and aircrafts used by the military. As needs for soldiers abroad increased, product

The Pros And Cons Of The Seebeck Effect
Energy loss is a problem encountered in every industrial process and everyday technology take power
stations for example. Electricity is generated by heat engines by which gas or steam powered turbines
convert the heat to mechanical energy then into electricity, however 70% of this energy is lost as heat
energy. Similarly in all electronics devices energy is lost through heat.
So we know that electricity creates heat mainly because or electrical devices warm up during its use.
But imagine how useful it would be to generate electricity from this heat created, in other words using
this lost energy which is in the form of heat to generate electricity so eventually you d be using every
bit of energy to generate electric power. This objective can be reached by applying the Seebeck Effect.
The seebeck effect is a phenomenon by which a temperature difference between two conductors or
semiconductors of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It all started in 1981 when a German physicist called Thomas Johann Seebeck accidently found that a
compass magnet would deflect when a circuit with two different metals with different temperature
junction. He concluded that that there is an induced electric current in the circuit that deflected the
magnet according to ampere s law. So the voltage that was due to the difference in temperature drives
the current in a closed circuit.
In order To measure this voltage, a second conductor material which generates a different voltage
under the same temperature gradient must be used. Otherwise, if the same material is used for
measurement, the voltage generated by the measuring conductor would simply cancel that of the first
conductor. The voltage difference generated by the two materials can then be measured and related to
the corresponding temperature gradient. It is thus clear that, based on Seebeck s principle;
thermocouples can only measure temperature differences and need a known reference temperature to

Underage Drinking And Teenage Drinking
Alex Wilmore Joshua James, Instructor ENG 111 07 July 2015 Underage Drinking With such
compelling information, the question is why haven t we been able to do more to prevent the crisis of
underage drinking? The answer is: rising the age to 25 is what Lucille Roybal Allard once said, a U.S.
Representative for serving in Congress since 1993. This statement has brought many to speculate of
issues and debates. This expression opened the eyes of American people that often struggled to make
this truth into a reality. It might be easy to believe that age laws lowered the deaths of the underage but
there are still signs of its dreadful company in many pieces of American life. Families who choose to
educate their children about underage drinking and driving, seem to have a higher chance of getting
through with the child. These underage teens can face jail or death when they give drinking a chance
and even attempt to drive, having a sexual intercourse or just plain out doing something out of the teen
s element. There are few different methods of controlling the underage drinking and most of which the
teachers, the parents and everyone who is willing to be involved. The underage drinking can be
narrowed to two different opinions of effective methods of eliminating underage drinking: the first
opinion being to have parental and teacher prevention methods and the second opinion being that
regulating the alcohol assumption age to 25. The goal of this research is to take a look at some

Should Uk Policy Be Concerned About Unemployment
Should UK policy makers be concerned about unemployment persistence and hysteresis given the
increase in the unemployment rate since the start of the recession in 2008? Unemployment is
measured by the International Labour Organisation (ILO) who conduct a Labour Force Survey (LFS)
and through the Claimant Count. The Claimant Count measures those who are claiming Job Seekers
Allowance whilst the LFS is a sample survey which is used for the official figures in the UK as this
allows comparisons internationally. Through these measures, it is then possible to identify the
unemployment rate, which is defined as the number of unemployed expressed as a percentage of the
labour force . (Sloman 2005 p. 787) Since the 2008 recession, the unemployment rate has reached a
high of 8.5% in the period Sep Nov 2011; however, the current level is 6.0% for the period June Aug
2014. (ONS, 2014). Appendix 1 depicts the fluctuations in the unemployment rate from 2007 before
the recession began to August 2014. This highlights the way in which unemployment rose and then
has remained at a constantly high rate until the UK started to experience falls in unemployment
around the end of 2013. The unemployment rate is now is at its lowest level since records began over
40 years ago . (Gov.uk 2014) There are several types of unemployment such as frictional, structural,
demand deficient, seasonal, technological, real wage and the non accelerating rate of unemployment.

Zombie Apocalypse History
6 Of The Most Original Zombie Movies Ever Made
Even the most passionate zombie movie fan will have to admit that the genre gets played out from
time to time. Sure, we all love a good walking dead/end of the world film. Yet, it s been a long time
since George A. Romero and Night of the Living Dead scared up audiences in 1968.
Since then, a slew of films have been produced and they ve varied wildly in terms of quality. Some
being quality, but most not so much. Yet, it s not always the quality of a zombie film that makes
people come. Some just want to see the undead devouring on some human flesh. Films have ranged
from classic horror themes to ridiculous plots about loved ones coming back from the dead. Some are
even timepieces that may only ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Critics both loved and faulted FotLD s zany, largely original plot despite attempting to cash in on two
often cliche genres in one film. While the film did receive high marks from some critics, FotLD never
created much of a buzz. But it does have the bad guy from Kindergarten Cop in it. So, that should
make someone reading this interested, right?
Warm Bodies (2013)
A zombie love story isn t the most original concept in recent years. Yet, Warm Bodies went deeper
with a background into the main zombie character, R. In doing so, the film showed a human element
to the undead (thanks largely to Nicholas Hoult s voiceovers) that hasn t been explored in detail in
other films.
Another interesting twist to the genre was the addition of separate zombie factions. The far
deteriorated become the bad guys, along with the humans while those left in the middle are the heroes.
It s a classic tale of why extremes are never a good idea. Additionally, clever writing and a cast of
solid Hollywood veterans make Warm Bodies more endearing than other out there love stories.
Besides, it s not as if Warm Bodies was a trilogy centered on a love triangle involving a teenage girl, a
vampire and a werewolf. That would just be over the top.

Should Batman Kill the Joker?
Formal Essay Three
Formal Essay Final Draft Due Date: Sunday, December 24th to holguin2@illinois.edu by midnight
Directions: You have already read Mark D. White and Robert Arp s short essay Should Batman
Kill the Joker? and now you need to write an argument that fully responds to the question on page
548 of The Norton Sampler:
So is Batman morally and ethically right to let the Joker live? Or should he kill the
Joker at the first opportunity? Why do you think so?
Purpose of Essay Three: Or, What I hope You learn from Writing this Paper
1. Understand the differences between how to express your personal opinions versus your educated
arguments/ideas on the subject ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, refer to students in a boat thought experiment discussed in class. Be ready to confront a
naysayer who disagrees with your school of ethics. Make sure to avoid a false analogy and use
concrete (and imaginative) terms for your make believe world.
5. Understand how to connect your argument for Batman s school of ethics to a larger so what? factor
beyond The Dark Knight. Consider how your ideas on Batman s ethics relate to your own personal
ethics. For example: While I have argued that Batman s Kantian point of view would not allow him to
kill the Joker, I have realised that I m also supporting my own personal belief system.
It s interesting that my personal opinion on right and wrong can actually turn into a fully formed idea
if I support it with evidence and fully examine it from different angles.
Checklist for Basic Requirements For Final Draft
 Includes quotes and paraphrases from White and Arp s essay
 Summary of White and Arp s argument
 Your own original and logical argument
 Use the 3 step approach to quoting and analysis
 Avoid logical fallacies (refer to The Norton Sampler)

Argumentative Paper Euthanasia
Should Euthanasia be legalized?
Because of remarkable advances in medical technology pharmacology that can artificially prolong a
patient s life, the field of medical ethics has been confronted with a new controversy: the legalization
of euthanasia and physician assisted suicide. The word Euthanasia comes from the Greek word for eus
which means godly or well, and thanathos which literally means death (F.A. Davis Company, 2001, p.
476). Before its contemporary use, the word euthanasia meant a peaceful, quiet way to depart from
earth. However, in modern times, this concept has sparked an incredible controversy. Today, the word
euthanasia also commonly, but wrongfully, used for the practices of physician assisted suicide (PAS).

Literally the oath reads ...that I will exercise my art solely for the cure of my patients, and will give no
drug, perform no operation for a criminal purpose, even if solicited, far less suggested (North, 2002).
In addition, they assert, that euthanasia and PAS violates their principals of nonmaleficence (the belief
of not inflicting harm on an individual) (Beauchamp Childress, 1989, p. 194) and beneficence
(positive acts of preventing harm, removing harm, and promoting good) (1989, p. 121). Additionally
they claim that such crucial end of life decisions can be reduced by proper and suitable palliative care,
and efficient pharmaceutical pain management (Hendin, 2004, p. 9). Opponents of euthanasia and PAS
also maintain that the sanctity of life overrules the right to personal freedom and choice. Religion and
cultural background play a major role in those attitudes. Some claim that the concept that an
individual has a right to die is rejected on the basis that death is inevitability, not a right (Ledger, 2007,
p. 81). Others quote the six commandment of the Christian faith that states thou shall not kill (murder)
(Exodus 20:6). Christians believe that human life is sacred. The Catechism of the Catholic Church
number 2281 denounces the act of suicide as a contradiction to the natural inclination of the human
being to preserve and perpetuate his life (Catholic Online, 2008). In

An Introduction To Private Health Insurance
INTRO
Private health Insurance is a $1.42 billion (before tax) industry in Australia (Seah, 2012) and has
played a prominent role in the country s health system for over 60 years. As of 2009, 51per cent of the
Australian population was covered by some form of private health insurance. Private health insurance
is a regulated industry; this means it is controlled by government legislation under the Private Health
Insurance Act (2007). Private health insurers are required to register under this Act, and the policies
they sell must adhere to these regulations (Shamsullah, 2011). Due to the size and regulation of the
industry managers in the sector may face many complex challenges.
Complex management has been around for thousands of years. Basic management tools that were
used in the past have formed the foundations of the theories that have shaped today s management
practices. One of the major challenges in today s organisational environments is the
interconnectedness of all management aspects. It can be difficult for leaders to identify the exact
problem, the cause of the problem and what relevant information (within the available abundance) is
relevant and could be used to address problems (Maznevski, 2007). This study aims to analyse the
issues and problems faced by HealthCo and provide potential solutions and recommendations to
enhance management and business success.
BACKGROUND:
HealthCO is a longstanding, leading company in the Australian health insurance industry.

Personal Behavior Change
Everyone has different challenge in his/her life ,and he/she may have different view on the same thing.
Therefore, people will have different goals which they are eager to achieve. Based on what my life
looks like and what I need in my life, my behavior change is to exercise at least one hour every day.
The reasons why I choose this goal are because I want to spend some time relaxing from my daily life,
and get the balance between education and occupation. Moreover, I expect to burn the fat in my body
because I spend very little time for workout since I got a job. When I planned to accomplish this
behavior change, I knew that challenges or difficulties would appear, I could not avoid them and I
could not finish it easily. But I am the kind of person who likes challenge and I am not afraid of it.
Therefore, I chose this behavior change. During the process of this behavior change, I met a lot of
difficulties and I learn how to get balance well in my life. The first and the biggest difficulty is time
because the time availability is limit for me. Because I have two summer classes and I need to work
five days weekly, time is huge challenge for me during the process. My schedule looks like going
school on the morning and working at the evening. Therefore, the only ... Show more content on

After accomplishing this behavior change, I also find that there is a big potential ability for me and I
believe that if I spend time and work hard, I can get through everything no matter how hard it is. And
if I had chance to select a behavior to change, I would do the same thing again because it is full of
challenges for me. But I would reduce the time for working or others so that everything can get
balance if I continue to keep working on this behavior change. I will try my best to continue this
behavior change because it will make my body strong and

If things are recorded as achieved, which are only almost achieved, then the observation is not valid.
Next steps cannot be planned as it may be a huge step for the child if they have not yet achieved the

Avoiding bias
. Sometimes it can be useful for a second person to assess a child as observations can be very
subjective. It is also useful to use a wide variety of methods of assessment. Things need to be recorded
according to what is exactly happening and should not be interpreted according to the assessors point
of view.

Explanation
Assessment Framework/s
Assessment frameworks are the way in which a child is assessed to see whether they have any
particular needs, what they are and how we can help them be met. It is useful in deciding whether a
child has reached expected milestones. Assessment frameworks may be summative or formative.
Formative assessments are used to check progress and helps us to consider learning opportunities
needed to progress. The ongoing observations we do of children are formative assessments. They
inform the next steps of the childs learning. Summative assessment provides staff with information
about the attainment of knowledge and is usually measured against a benchmark or standard. For
example, the EYFS assessment which is done toward the end of the reception year. This sums up all

Raising Minimum Wage Research Paper
Living on minimum wage with companies that pay with the bare minimum has never been a walk in
the park for anyone. Whether you are an individual that lives by yourself or a parent that has children
to take care of, minimum wage doesn t provide enough to live a comfortable life. Many people say
that if the minimum wage is raised, there will be negative repercussions. However, there is evidence
that shows the complete opposite. This evidence would include how living conditions would improve,
happier employees result in better work output, and there would be an increase in sales due to people
being able to afford more. Raising the minimum wage to match rates of inflation would benefit and
improve lives. The life of someone whose only choice to make a living is through a low paying,
minimum wage job isn t easy. One of these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Employees don t seem as miserable to go to their minimum wage jobs when they feel like they re
being paid fairly for the work they are contributing to. More money for the employees takes stress off
their backs because living on minimum wages makes things tight. Raising it will give these employees
a bit of wiggle room. Michael Ungar wrote an article on the psychology of what could happen if the
minimum wage was raised. In his article, he talks about how family life would be improved because
parents will be less stressed. Workers of companies will be less stressed about making ends meet when
they have extra money to use as they please. An example of a company that took it into their own
hands to show their employees that their work needed to be valued more is Costco. Costco pays their
starting hourly employees $11.50 and an average of $20 or more. Their employees are also given
health benefits, which makes people even happier when they know they re covered when they get
sick. Companies also benefit from raising the minimum

NSC leadership that there was a legal obligation to inform Congress of the proposed arms transfer.
When it was pointed out that the plan had presidential authorization, Powell did what was requested of
him. The illegal missile transfer was later exposed as a key element in the controversial Iran Contra
scandal. Powell s demonstrated record of opposition to the illegality of the transfer and his excellent

Pine Grove Free Christian Ideals And Beliefs
Weapons, such as guns or knives, are not innately evil, but rather serve whatever purpose a person
chooses for one. This remains true for more than just physical tools. Ideals and beliefs have been used
throughout the ages to justify actions, good and bad alike. For example, Christianity was used
commonly during the crusades as a justification to slaughter thousands of people for the purpose of
reclaiming the holy land. Though this one belief has been used broadly for negative actions such as
that extreme example or even something is frivolous as the picketing of funerals by Westboro Baptist
Church, it has also been used to better the world. The church I belonged to, Pine Grove Free
Methodist Church, made its best efforts to assist its surrounding community by volunteering at the
local homeless shelter and running charity events for starving children in Africa. Furthermore,
interpretation and practice truly differentiates the diverse groups within Christianity from their
stereotypes. However, to better understand Christianity and Free Methodist denomination I belonged
to, one must understand their foundations and common practices within. Unlike most groups where a
person joins that respective community by choice, an individual is usually either born into Christianity
or brought into it through a close friend or family member. On rare occasions a person seeks out this
belief by themselves, usually under the guise of searching for a purpose in their life. In a lot of ways

The Pros And Cons Of Estes Roadway
The safety of the people shall be the highest law, (Cicero n.d. p1). Throughout history, the safety of
people has been arguably the most important objective of the government. Political leaders have made
a force including police, fire fighters, and etc. to keep the common population safe. Unfortunately the
system set up is not the most efficient at locating mistakes that could potentially bring harm to
citizens. Within the city of Longview, located in Texas, there is one of these mistakes posing a threat
to the population of the city. On the south side of the city there is a three way intersection between the
roads Estes Parkway (running north and south) and Highway 281 (running from the west to Estes
Parkway). This intersection designed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All of these solutions provide a viable way of increasing the safety of drivers in the intersection and
also make the intersection easier to follow direction. The first solution is based upon the idea that the
light pole will be shifted from the right side of Estes Parkway running north to the left side between
the median. This solution would eliminate the two extra traffic lights above the parallel road, and
focus on the intersection. The main issue with this idea is the cost involved with moving the traffic
light. According to the WSDOT it costs the taxpayer $250,000 to $500,000 to purchase and install a
traffic signal (WSDOT, n.d.). This also does not incorporate the amount of money that it would take to
provide the construction to move the light from one side of the street to the other. Over all, this first
solution could take upwards to 600,000 dollars to complete. The second solution to the intersection is
based on the idea that the two traffic lights over the intersection could be taken down and in
replacement there would be a sign placed in the spot instead. This would provide an easy
understanding of the intersection and also the drivers would not be confused on which sign was meant
for them. This change would save the city around 16,000 dollars a year based off of calculations from
WSDOT in the amount of money it takes to maintain traffic lights a year. Again there would have to
be a little construction, however, the cost to make this solution a reality would be much more cost
efficient for the tax payers dollars. Finally, the third option is to completely redesign the intersection
as a roundabout. The average cost to put an intersection in is just underneath 450,000 dollars (FHWA,
2015). That number however does not even begin to cover the operating expenses of the intersection.
WSDOT amounts the cost of maintenance and electricity per year to be about 8,000

Cross Cultural Differences Nonverbal Communication Essay
Gestures provide one of the most obvious cases of cross cultural differences in nonverbal
communication. In South Italy gesture use is prominent and many gestures are conventional. These
include pragmatic gestures that indicate type of speech act or aspects of discourse structure and
substantive gestures that express utterance content (Kendon, n.d.). The examples of conventional
pragmatic gestures are the Mano a borsa( purse hand ) and the Mani giunte ( praying hands ) are well
known and have recognition as quotable gestures or emblems . They express the illocutionary intent of
the spoken utterances associated with them. The second two relate to discourse structure: The Finger
Bunch, which is similar to the purse hand in form, marks topic as distinct from comment ; the Ring, in
which the tips of the index finger and thumb are brought into contact forming a circle, marks the
locality of a unit in relation to the theme. Emblems, in particular, tend to differ by culture. Emblems
are gestures that substitute for language. Examples of emblems include waving hand to say hello or
goodbye , nodding to say yes , putting your hand out so that someone stops, and more. Those are the
examples of emblems in the United States. In Italy, handshake is common. It is used with everyone
you meet, but women must hold their hand out first. When meeting for get together, they shake
everyone hands, including children, then again when leaving (Bosrock, 2010). Furthermore,

Isadora Duncan And Modern Dance
Isadora Duncan was born on May 26th 1877 in San Francisco, California. She became a known
dancer and instructor, and she influenced dance techniques today. She was one of the people who
came up with dancing in a natural way, unlike modern ballet, allowing the performer to feel right. She
didn t believe that dance should be unnatural to the person s body. She was a great influence to
modern dance.
After her birth in 1877, her father lost his job at a bank in California. Not shortly afterwards, her
parents divorced around 1880. Isadora was raised by her mother Dora who was a piano teacher. This
probably made her feel the music more because she would move her body to the music while they
practiced and didn t have a teacher at that time. Their family not long after moved to Oakland,
California where her mother struggled with making money as a piano instructor. Isadora s dad
returned later and provided a home for his ex wife.
When Isadora was a little girl she studied ballet like Delsarte technique and she studied Burlesque and
automatically fell in love with dance. She didn t like traditional ballet so she made her own style that
was more comfortable. She believed ballet had too many rules. When she was six she began teaching
kids in her neighborhood how to dance. Word was spreading about her class and around age ten her
classes became bigger.
Eventually she dropped out of school at a young age so Duncan and her sister Elizabeth could earn
extra money from teaching a dance

Article X on Free Political Activity states that the parties agreed to ensure free political activity

Aeschylus The Oresteia
The Oresteia The Oresteia is a trilogy of Greek tragedies written by Aeschylus. This trilogy consists of
Agamemnon, The Libation Bearers or The Choephoroe, and The Eumenides. The only extant example
of an ancient Greek theatre trilogy, the Oresteia won first prize at the Dionysia festival in 458 BC.
Many consider the Oresteia to be Aeschylus finest work. The principal themes of the trilogy include
the contrast between revenge and justice, as well as the transition from personal vendetta to organized
litigation. In this trilogy there are multiple themes carried through all three plays. Other themes can be

with a sleeping curse he slows down the Furies and their evil works against Orestes for a little while.
As the Furies surround Orestes again, he begs Athena to save him. This leads to the trial of Orestes. As
a result of the trial, Orestes leaves to go home to Argos and the Furies have their name switched to

  • 2. Solidarity In The Film It s A Wonderful Life Solidarity isn t just a definition, caring about others and putting them before yourself is important to all. In the movie It s a wonderful life , a character named George Bailey lives in a small town named Bedford Falls. George had a brother named Harry, a later to be wife named Marry, and 4 children, 2 boys and 2 girls. Growing up, George always had dreamed about traveling and building buildings or bridges but George s plans were always delayed because of family and business. He helped a lot of people and saved some to, he always put others before himself. I personally think George did live a life of solidarity for all the people he s helped and saved when he was growing up, when he took over his dad s company named the bailey building and loan company which built houses and gave loans to people rejected by the bank, and after he married Marry and had kids. ... Current Growth and Acquisition From the inception of the company TiER1 has been focused on growth. As a services company this growth has been largely organic and required any profits to be invested back into the organization. This was a commitment that continues to be shared by the three founders. In 2010, TiER1 took an $875,000 investment from Kentucky Highlands Investment Corporation. This strategic move changed TiER1 into an organization that needed to focus on repeatable processes to drive more capital into the business. The investment allowed TiER1 to make a series of acquisitions. According to Greg Harmeyer, CEO, the infusion of capital into the business had an impact not only on our capital structure ... • 4. Example Of A Political Cartoon c. In this political cartoon, there is an American citizen depicted in both 2008 and 2016 expressing his views of that year s president elect. In 2008, the citizen says, Anyone can become president, and Barack Obama is pictured by his side. The citizen is grinning, looking at President Obama with wide eyes and excitement. Alongside that depiction, the citizen is again shown in 2016. He is saying again, Anyone can become president, however this time Donald Trump is standing by his side. This time the citizen is sad and looks disappointed. d. The cartoonist of this political cartoon is demonstrating the views of many American people after Donald Trump was elected president compared to their views when Barack Obama was elected. In 2008, most were excited that we would have the first African American president. It showed, like the citizen in the cartoon is saying, that anyone can become president in the United States. It demonstrated the large racial barrier that was broken by Obama ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The cartoonist in this political cartoon is clearly depicting the brutality and aftermath of this election. By showing Hillary and Trump with bruises and cuts each of their own, it shows that each of them took violent swings at the other. This means that they each were nasty to each other during the election and made some pretty big impacts on the other s campaign. By showing Uncle Sam, who is in a USA Democracy shirt, being the most beat up out of the three of them, it shows how America and the American government has taken the biggest beating of them all during this election. American democracy has been seriously wounded by this election because of the harshness of each of the candidates and the illegitimacy of each of them as well. Both of them have not been a good and genuine example of what the American democracy calls for in a leader. The point of view of the cartoonist is that both Trump and Hillary hurt each other during the campaign, however they hurt America the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This statement made by Sammy after quitting his job, was made towards the end of John Updike s story A amp;P . Sammy had quit his job, a job that his parents helped him to get. Sammy opened up a whole new world; a world that I don t think Sammy was ready for. He made a quick and irrational decision, rather if it affected his life or not we would never know. Sammy lived in a small town in New England; there were not a lot of large businesses there, just a small quaint town. If I had of been in the same predicament, and had quit my job. I would have moved to a bigger town that offered a broader working experience, a broader lifestyle. That opportunity would have given me a way to make a better life for myself. With Sammy being so socially incompetent that would have given him a better opportunity to interact and become more sociable with other people. Sammy s experience gave me a personal insight to an experience I once had while being employed at Kroger. The location of the Kroger I was working at was just about to have a grand opening. We had all gathered to the front of the store to have a store meeting to prepare for the opening. Our manager at the time was speaking to us and just telling us about how he was expecting everyone to be on his or her tasks. He wanted to make sure that no one had any questions or concerns of their jobs. A couple of questions were asked to the manager and he answered them one by one accordingly. • 9. Difference Between Aggregate Demand And The Price Level Question (3) A) What is Aggregate Demand? Aggregate demand is the total amount that all consumers, businesses, government agencies, and foreigners spend on final goods and services. Aggregate demand is represented by the aggregate demand curve, and it describes the relationship between price levels and the quantity of output that firms are willing to provide. Aggregate demand is not a fixed number because it depends on the price level. The relationship between aggregate demand and the price level normally is a negative relationship, which creates a downward sloping aggregate demand curve. It stimulates the aggregate demand and thereby increases overall economic activities and growth. Fiscal policy, as it will be explained below, could affect the whole economy through affecting the aggregate demand. For example, increasing government spending lead to increase the aggregate demand and thereby boost the entire economy (more details about this example and how the expansionary and contractionary fiscal policy could affect aggregate demand and thereby affect the overall economy are in the answers of sections d and e) C) What is Fiscal Policy? What are the goals of Fiscal Policy? What are the tools of Fiscal Policy? Fiscal policy is the government s plan for spending and taxation (which in the United States is set by the Federal Reserve). Fiscal policy is helping to steer aggregate demand in the desired direction of the economy because the increasing or decreasing in spending and taxes levels influences the economy. Thus, the main goals of this policy are to help the government to manage inflation, employment and the flow of money through the economic system. There are two main tools of fiscal policy, taxes and spending. Taxes affect the economy by determining the total money that the government has to spend and how much money each person has to spend. Secondly, government spending as a tool for fiscal policy can be used to drive government money to certain sectors that need an economic boost. These sectors who receives those dollars ... Unfortunately, this phenomenon is found only within the confines of fiction. In the short story, To Every Thing There Is a Season , by Alistair Macleod, the protagonist craves just that, to not grow up. He holds on to his belief in Santa Claus as tightly as he can. Alistair is on the cusp of maturity, and not quite ready to take the leap. The theme in this short story is that while some cling to childhood, there is no escaping growing up. This is revealed through the symbolism of Santa, the character Alistair, and the plot of this story. Jacobean England was an extremely hierarchical society meaning that respect should not only be shown to the powerful and rich but also to parents and the elderly. This helps Shakespeare to show what an unstable character Lear is because he does not realise that Cordelia has actually done what he has asked and told him how much she loves him. Lear s emotions at this point swing between the extremes of love and anger because of this: Here I disclaim all my paternal care, Propinquity and property of blood And as a stranger to my heart and me. I.i.109 111 In his rage, Lear is willing to give up his love for his daughter even though he loves her immensely. It illustrates the fury and rash judgements that have become ingrained in his nature whilst king. He wants to prove to the court and possibly himself that, even though he is abdicating, he still wants to be seen as omnipotent. His self importance and need for praise leads him to thinking that Cordelia has shamed him and therefore banishes her. In spite of Goneril and Regan s obvious lies, Lear foolishly divides the kingdom between. Where Lear falls for their shallow lies, the audience sees through them and their sympathy lies with Cordelia. The audience also learn that the family dynamics depend on whether Lear ... Jared Diamond Collapse Summary Collapse: How Societies Choose to Fail Or Succeed Author: Jared Diamond Published in New York, 2005 Pages: 570 Summary: This book follows the events of several civilizations from the past and present, and how they either failed or succeeded to survive. The book starts with the author talking about the Huls and Gardar Farm, and how even though they were thousands of miles apart, they had many similar strengths which made them the superior farm in the area. The author then reveals that the Huls farm was a growing farm in the modern U.S. and the Gardar Farm was a Norse farm in greenland that was abandoned over 500 years ago. After revealing the differences between the two farms, Diamond then states that any society, even one seeming ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For a role of a third factor, climate change, we also have no evidence at present, though it may emerge in the future. That leaves us with just two main sets of factors behind Easter s collapse: human environmental impacts, especially deforestation and destruction of bird populations; and the political, social, and religious factors behind the impacts, such as the impossibility of emigration as an escape valve because of Easter s isolation, a focus on statue construction for reasons already discussed, and competition between clans and chiefs driving the erection of bigger statues requiring more wood, rope, and food. • 14. The Characteristics Of Military Warfare During The... Due to the lack of better tactics, 4,435 soldiers were killed from battle wounds during the American Revolution. The most common tactic during the American Revolution was line infantry, which was no longer a viable tactic to use in future battles due to many deaths, and how it ultimately let the larger army be victorious. This lead to new tactics specifically trench warfare which was first used during the American Revolution and has now become the most used tactic in war, especially during the world wars. There was another form of fighting called guerrilla warfare which was important for the colonists to defeat the British because they knew the area much better than the British and could get the upper hand. These military tactics used by the colonists in the American Revolution laid down the foundation for advancement in tactical warfare. Line infantry helped at the time due to the weapons used then, but in modern combat, the tactic has become obsolete. During the American Revolution, weapons were not reliable or advanced enough to be used in quick combat where targets could be moving. The first firearm to be used in the American Revolution was the Brown Bess musket and weighed around 10.5 pounds, and was most effective within 50 yards, but could be used by a skilled musketeer up to 175 yards. It took a long amount of time for the musketeer to reload the weapon if once it was fired. A rifleman could shoot up to 2 5 rounds per minute, leaving them vulnerable to rush attacks. ... Electricity is generated by heat engines by which gas or steam powered turbines convert the heat to mechanical energy then into electricity, however 70% of this energy is lost as heat energy. Similarly in all electronics devices energy is lost through heat. So we know that electricity creates heat mainly because or electrical devices warm up during its use. But imagine how useful it would be to generate electricity from this heat created, in other words using this lost energy which is in the form of heat to generate electricity so eventually you d be using every bit of energy to generate electric power. This objective can be reached by applying the Seebeck Effect. The seebeck effect is a phenomenon by which a temperature difference between two conductors or semiconductors of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It all started in 1981 when a German physicist called Thomas Johann Seebeck accidently found that a compass magnet would deflect when a circuit with two different metals with different temperature junction. He concluded that that there is an induced electric current in the circuit that deflected the magnet according to ampere s law. So the voltage that was due to the difference in temperature drives the current in a closed circuit. In order To measure this voltage, a second conductor material which generates a different voltage under the same temperature gradient must be used. Otherwise, if the same material is used for measurement, the voltage generated by the measuring conductor would simply cancel that of the first conductor. The voltage difference generated by the two materials can then be measured and related to the corresponding temperature gradient. It is thus clear that, based on Seebeck s principle; thermocouples can only measure temperature differences and need a known reference temperature to yield the absolute ... This statement has brought many to speculate of issues and debates. This expression opened the eyes of American people that often struggled to make this truth into a reality. It might be easy to believe that age laws lowered the deaths of the underage but there are still signs of its dreadful company in many pieces of American life. There are few different methods of controlling the underage drinking and most of which the teachers, the parents and everyone who is willing to be involved. Should Uk Policy Be Concerned About Unemployment Should UK policy makers be concerned about unemployment persistence and hysteresis given the increase in the unemployment rate since the start of the recession in 2008? Unemployment is measured by the International Labour Organisation (ILO) who conduct a Labour Force Survey (LFS) and through the Claimant Count. The Claimant Count measures those who are claiming Job Seekers Allowance whilst the LFS is a sample survey which is used for the official figures in the UK as this allows comparisons internationally. Through these measures, it is then possible to identify the unemployment rate, which is defined as the number of unemployed expressed as a percentage of the labour force . (Sloman 2005 p. 787) Since the 2008 recession, the unemployment rate has reached a high of 8.5% in the period Sep Nov 2011; however, the current level is 6.0% for the period June Aug 2014. Because of remarkable advances in medical technology pharmacology that can artificially prolong a patient s life, the field of medical ethics has been confronted with a new controversy: the legalization of euthanasia and physician assisted suicide. Additionally they claim that such crucial end of life decisions can be reduced by proper and suitable palliative care, and efficient pharmaceutical pain management (Hendin, 2004, p. 9). An Introduction To Private Health Insurance INTRO Private health Insurance is a $1.42 billion (before tax) industry in Australia (Seah, 2012) and has played a prominent role in the country s health system for over 60 years. As of 2009, 51per cent of the Australian population was covered by some form of private health insurance. Private health insurance is a regulated industry; this means it is controlled by government legislation under the Private Health Insurance Act (2007). • 32. Pine Grove Free Christian Ideals And Beliefs Weapons, such as guns or knives, are not innately evil, but rather serve whatever purpose a person chooses for one. This remains true for more than just physical tools. Ideals and beliefs have been used throughout the ages to justify actions, good and bad alike. For example, Christianity was used commonly during the crusades as a justification to slaughter thousands of people for the purpose of reclaiming the holy land. Though this one belief has been used broadly for negative actions such as that extreme example or even something is frivolous as the picketing of funerals by Westboro Baptist Church, it has also been used to better the world. The church I belonged to, Pine Grove Free Methodist Church, made its best efforts to assist its surrounding community by volunteering at the local homeless shelter and running charity events for starving children in Africa. Furthermore, interpretation and practice truly differentiates the diverse groups within Christianity from their stereotypes. However, to better understand Christianity and Free Methodist denomination I belonged to, one must understand their foundations and common practices within. Unlike most groups where a person joins that respective community by choice, an individual is usually either born into Christianity or brought into it through a close friend or family member. On rare occasions a person seeks out this belief by themselves, usually under the guise of searching for a purpose in their life. In a lot of ways ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. The Pros And Cons Of Estes Roadway The safety of the people shall be the highest law, (Cicero n.d. p1). Throughout history, the safety of people has been arguably the most important objective of the government. Political leaders have made a force including police, fire fighters, and etc. to keep the common population safe. Unfortunately the system set up is not the most efficient at locating mistakes that could potentially bring harm to citizens. Within the city of Longview, located in Texas, there is one of these mistakes posing a threat to the population of the city. On the south side of the city there is a three way intersection between the roads Estes Parkway (running north and south) and Highway 281 (running from the west to Estes Parkway). This intersection designed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All of these solutions provide a viable way of increasing the safety of drivers in the intersection and also make the intersection easier to follow direction. The first solution is based upon the idea that the light pole will be shifted from the right side of Estes Parkway running north to the left side between the median. This solution would eliminate the two extra traffic lights above the parallel road, and focus on the intersection. The main issue with this idea is the cost involved with moving the traffic light. According to the WSDOT it costs the taxpayer $250,000 to $500,000 to purchase and install a traffic signal (WSDOT, n.d.). This also does not incorporate the amount of money that it would take to provide the construction to move the light from one side of the street to the other. Over all, this first solution could take upwards to 600,000 dollars to complete. The second solution to the intersection is based on the idea that the two traffic lights over the intersection could be taken down and in replacement there would be a sign placed in the spot instead. This would provide an easy understanding of the intersection and also the drivers would not be confused on which sign was meant for them. This change would save the city around 16,000 dollars a year based off of calculations from WSDOT in the amount of money it takes to maintain traffic lights a year. Again there would have to be a little construction, however, the cost to make this solution a reality would be much more cost efficient for the tax payers dollars. Finally, the third option is to completely redesign the intersection as a roundabout. The average cost to put an intersection in is just underneath 450,000 dollars (FHWA, 2015). That number however does not even begin to cover the operating expenses of the intersection. WSDOT amounts the cost of maintenance and electricity per year to be about 8,000 ... • 35. Cross Cultural Differences Nonverbal Communication Essay Gestures provide one of the most obvious cases of cross cultural differences in nonverbal communication. In South Italy gesture use is prominent and many gestures are conventional. These include pragmatic gestures that indicate type of speech act or aspects of discourse structure and substantive gestures that express utterance content (Kendon, n.d.). The examples of conventional pragmatic gestures are the Mano a borsa( purse hand ) and the Mani giunte ( praying hands ) are well known and have recognition as quotable gestures or emblems . They express the illocutionary intent of the spoken utterances associated with them. The second two relate to discourse structure: The Finger Bunch, which is similar to the purse hand in form, marks topic as distinct from comment ; the Ring, in which the tips of the index finger and thumb are brought into contact forming a circle, marks the locality of a unit in relation to the theme. Emblems, in particular, tend to differ by culture. Emblems are gestures that substitute for language. Examples of emblems include waving hand to say hello or goodbye , nodding to say yes , putting your hand out so that someone stops, and more. Those are the examples of emblems in the United States. In Italy, handshake is common. It is used with everyone you meet, but women must hold their hand out first. When meeting for get together, they shake everyone hands, including children, then again when leaving (Bosrock, 2010). Furthermore, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Isadora Duncan And Modern Dance Isadora Duncan was born on May 26th 1877 in San Francisco, California. She became a known dancer and instructor, and she influenced dance techniques today. She was one of the people who came up with dancing in a natural way, unlike modern ballet, allowing the performer to feel right. She didn t believe that dance should be unnatural to the person s body. She was a great influence to modern dance. After her birth in 1877, her father lost his job at a bank in California. Not shortly afterwards, her parents divorced around 1880. Isadora was raised by her mother Dora who was a piano teacher. This probably made her feel the music more because she would move her body to the music while they practiced and didn t have a teacher at that time. Their family not long after moved to Oakland, California where her mother struggled with making money as a piano instructor. Isadora s dad returned later and provided a home for his ex wife. When Isadora was a little girl she studied ballet like Delsarte technique and she studied Burlesque and automatically fell in love with dance. She didn t like traditional ballet so she made her own style that was more comfortable. She believed ballet had too many rules. When she was six she began teaching kids in her neighborhood how to dance. Word was spreading about her class and around age ten her classes became bigger. Eventually she dropped out of school at a young age so Duncan and her sister Elizabeth could earn extra money from teaching a dance ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
