First Person Narrative Examples Essays
Crafting an essay on the theme of "First Person Narrative Examples Essays" poses a unique
challenge, as it necessitates a delicate balance between personal expression and adherence to
structural conventions. The inherent complexity lies in seamlessly interweaving personal
experiences or perspectives into a cohesive narrative while ensuring the essay remains
informative and engaging for the reader.
Navigating the intricacies of a first-person narrative demands a profound understanding of the
chosen examples, as well as a keen awareness of the essay's overarching purpose. One must
carefully select anecdotes, ensuring they not only illustrate the intended points but also
contribute to the overall flow of the narrative. Balancing introspection with external examples
requires finesse, as too much of either can disrupt the essay's rhythm.
Moreover, the challenge extends to avoiding self-indulgence. While the first person provides a
unique vantage point, the essay must transcend mere self-reflection and offer broader insights
that resonate with a diverse audience. Striking this balance between personal narrative and
universal relevance demands a meticulous approach to language, tone, and thematic coherence.
Addressing the technical aspect, the essay must adhere to conventional structural norms despite
the inherent subjectivity of the first-person perspective. This means incorporating a well-defined
introduction, body paragraphs that seamlessly transition between personal and general examples,
and a conclusion that synthesizes the narrative's key takeaways. Ensuring a logical and coherent
progression is essential for the reader to navigate through the essay effortlessly.
In conclusion, tackling an essay on "First Person Narrative Examples Essays" requires a nuanced
approach, combining personal authenticity with adherence to structural norms. Successfully
conveying meaningful insights while maintaining the delicate balance between individual
experiences and broader relevance is a demanding task. However, with careful consideration and
a thoughtful approach, one can navigate the complexities inherent in this writing challenge.

Recorded Music By some estimates, the recorded music business was an $8.5
billion industry in the U.S. (see Exhibit 1 for general trends in recorded music
revenues, and Exhibit 2a for the bestselling artists in recorded music in 2008).
Physical sales had fallen markedly since the early 2000s, while digital sales had
grown to be a $1.6 billion share.1 Further declines of physical recorded music sales
were widely expected, as several brick and mortar music retailers were struggling
and mass merchants dedicated less shelf space to music. Digital outlets such as
Apple s iTunes store and Amazon had seen strong growth: tellingly, iTunes
accounting for roughly three quarters of all digital music sales had overtaken
Walmart to become the largest seller of recorded music. Artists and labels Popular
artists tended to have an exclusive contract with a record company (or record label ).
Under the terms of such a record contract, artists usually committed to creating four
to six albums worth of music, while the label agreed to manufacture, distribute, and
promote that music. Beginning artists could expect an advance intended to cover
living and other expenses in the range of $200,000 to $300,000; superstars
sometimes received up front fees of $1 million
Merging Agnew s General Strain Theory and Hirschi s

The two theories I have decided to merge are Agnew s General Strain Theory and
Hirschi s Social Bond Theory. I picked General Strain Theory because it does a
good job at discussing some of the things that can trigger the release of a person s
negative emotions which in turn may lead to deviant behavior. I also decided to
write about Social Bond Theory because it describes some of the factors that keep
people from committing crime. Both of the theories have strengths and weaknesses
individually, but when merged they help fill in each other s gaps. (Agnew, 2011;
Hirschi, 2011) +1 (888) 295 7904 The proposal of Robert Agnew s General Strain

(Agnew, 2011) There are a lot of people who have lost their cell phones due to their
own carelessness or it was stolen. Anyone who has lost their cell phone has
experienced the first type of strain. Agnew plainly describes the strain as a result
when individual s lose something good (Agnew, 2011. p. 190). The description
Agnew gives comes off as being ambiguous and incomplete. Arguably, the strain of
losing something good can be interpreted a certain way by someone and a
completely different way by another person. A perfect example would be a drug
dealer losing his cocaine. According to this theory he is more apt to commit a
deviant act to get his cocaine back. Obviously the problem here is the fact that he
was already committing a crime before the strain ever took place. On the other, a
victim of identity theft has their entire savings wiped out. Consequently, due to
their desperate need for money they become a prostitute. In this case the theory
seems to hold true. The scenarios above appear to be completely different in all
but two ways. The two ways in which they are similar are they both lost something
important to them. The word good is not defined by what society approves or
disapproves of. What s considered to be good is based on the individual s own
definition. The second similarity is that their loss triggered negative emotions such as
anger, depression, and frustration. In these two similarities the core concept of

The Knight Is Darkest Just Before The Dawn
When I reached the conclusion of Batman: Arkham Knight after 12 hours of solid
pacing, I literally stood behind my chair like a five year old cheering for his favorite
superhero, biting my nails as I could no longer wait to see how it would all end. Not
only does the finale of Batman: Arkham Knight grant the legendary Arkham series
the ending it deserves, but it also introduces so many new gameplay mechanics that it
manages to outdo the previous installments in the series, thus becoming the very best
comic book game in existence. If I am to be completely honest here, I have to say that
Batman: Arkham Knight is possibly one of the best video games I ever got to play,
period.

In these separate side missions, you will mostly be spending your time beating up
thugs while chasing villains like Firefly, Two Face and Penguin, which doesn t
always work in the game s favor. Most side missions end with you confronting the
villain behind it all, and instead of it going down with a good old fashioned boss
fight, villains are easily knocked out by performing a Takedown of sorts (e.g.
Stealth Takedown, Vehicle Takedown and Dual Takedown). This is probably my
biggest complaint with Batman: Arkham Knight, because I for one truly enjoyed the
recurrent boss fight in previous Arkham games. In any case, almost all of these side
missions are varied enough that they will keep you interested, and if not, you can
always choose to chase another villain and come back to the initial mission later

Paradise Lost Changes
Paradise Lost by John Milton characterizes Eve prior to the Fall of Man, during the
Fall, and after, and the story takes place in the Garden of Eden, Heaven, and Hell.
This world renown epic poem takes us on Eve s journey and others during the
beginning of the world. After sin overtook Eve, she consequently changed, and her
relationship with Adam and God changed; however, mankind can relate to her today
despite her major flaws.
The character of Eve in Paradise Lost can be described as curious, wise, and beautiful
prior to the first sin of mankind. Eve was inferior to Adam because he was created in
God s image, but Eve was created in Adam s as stated in line 4.299, which says, He
for God only, she for God in him. The beauty that Eve possessed... Show more

When Eve ate the fruit, she gorged herself because it tasted good. Milton describes
this by saying, Greedily she engorged without restraint, and knew not eating death.
Satiate at length and heightened with wine. (9.791 4) Sin will always taste good,
but in the end it will only bring forth death and destruction. Sin appeals to our
worldly palette, so to speak, because Satan always targets weakness. He targeted
Eve s only flaw, vanity, and he continues to feed us lies that appeal to our flesh today.
Sin still produces the same result today that it did during the beginning of mankind.
Just as Eve experienced shame beyond measure because of her sin, the same hold
true today. The guilt and shame that sin creates far outweighs the pleasure that it may
bring for the time
The Aesthetics Of The Sublime
The Aesthetics of the Sublime in Abstract Expressionism
In the period between 14 March and 7 June 2015, the institution of the Royal
Academy of Arts, based in the heart of London, takes an artistic importance even
more significant than usual thanks to the organization of the exhibition dedicated to
the painter Richard Diebenkorn, who works in America in the mid twentieth century.
The first thing to emphasize about this event is that, to the European audience, the
name of the artist may seem unfamiliar. Indeed, his success has been mainly limited
to the US context. Moreover, it is significant that this three room show is the first
opportunity for the UK audience to approach the art of Diebenkorn in more than
twenty years. Thus, the exposition becomes not only an opportunity to see the works
of art but also the instrument by which the visitor can take a journey through the
different artistic phases that have characterized the life of the painter. Hence, while
the first part of the display includes the initial experiments with abstraction, in the
second Diebenkorn tries to find the way to express himself through the figurative art.
In the third room, the viewer might be surprised to see that the development of the
artist is actually his return to the beginning. In fact, even if differently compared to
the early stage, in his later works, the creator returns to the Abstract Expressionism.
Therefore, using a more geometric style given by vertical,
Young Man Comparison
Compare and Contrast: Jane Eyre and Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man
Bildungsroman novels characteristically deal with the growth and development of an
individual who seeks to find or create identity within a restrictive social order.
Typically, the needs and desires of these individuals go against the pressures that
govern society. Pivotal events arise when characters begin to challenge domineering
societal elements and authoritative figures, providing formative moments of
autonomy and identity. Both Charlotte BrontГ« s Jane Eyreand James Joyces Portrait
of the Artist as a Young Man involve protagonists whose behavior exemplifies
contention, defiance, and change, the very qualities that characterize their
individuality. Diction is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Jane Eyre, Rochester urges that she not act like a struggling bird to which Jane
responds, I am no bird; and no net ensnares me; I am a free human being with an
independent will (BrontГ« 258). Equivalently, in Portrait, Stephen tell his nationalist
friend Davin, When the soul of a man is born in this country there are nets flung at it
to hold it back from flight. You talk to me of nationality, language, religion. I shall try
to fly by those nets , revealing the stringency of Irish nationalism as well as
Catholicism. (Joyce 148). Both characters use diction relating to flight and
entrapment, asserting that their freedoms are being restricted and, more precisely,
that these restrictions already existed. In other words, the struggling bird and nets
preceded the actions of the individual , thus these pressures are larger forces of
society. It is how Jane and Stephen interacts with these forces that determines their

Patterns in Nature Research Paper Infrared Tech
Infrared Technology Infrared (IR) light cannot be detected by the human eye. It has
an energy factor that is two or three less than visible light and so the retina cannot be
triggered to see it. So, when applied properly, infrared light can be used to help the
human eye see things that were not fathomable beforehand. Infraredlight doesn t give
off much energy and therefore is not very hot. When objects aren t hot enough to
give off visible light, it gives most of its energy in the Infrared Spectrum and is used
in science, art and more. Chances are that people use something that is involved with
Infrared technology every day, but they do not even realize it! Infrared technology is

Infrared imaging is also used for military uses. This includes target acquisition,
surveillance, night vision, homing and tracking (Infrared). This technology allows
missiles and rockets to follow a target by tracking its heat. Night vision goggles and
surveillance is used just as with the thermal imaging to detect things that give off heat
and show them in a way that allows the human eye to see things that it normally could
not.
Infrared technology is being used with many historical art pieces as well.
Traditional light bulbs usually emit some sort of Infrared light of Ultraviolet rays
which, given direct contact to a piece of art work, can damage it. The painting
could crack, fade or peel because the light causes the surface of the painting to rise
in temperature. In other cases, infrared light can be used to literally see through art
work to see what is hiding underneath it. Infrared radiation is close to the visible
range, and can be detected using a certain type of camera used to collect infrared
CCD images. Even more advanced cameras can detect a bigger range of radiation
waves and can produce infrared reflectory images (IRFC). Infrared light can go
through the painting s film and reveal the underdrawing of the art piece ( Visible
and Beyond ). This type of technology has brought some Renaissance art back to life.
Now art historians can look at historic art pieces
The Well Known Phrase Of Love
The well known phrase of love. But In this poem they go deeper and talk about how
this is really relative to life itself or the logical reasoning behind this. The main idea
in this is to live your life but in some cases live it for the sake of others or to support
others and yourself. Like for example you wantto become a doctor but the school you
need to attend needs a certain amount of money that you don t possess, so you
either continue and put your parents in debt or make a life changing decision and
pursue a different career. Another example could be if you pay the bills in the
house and you can either go forward to pursue learning another skill to possess a job
or pay the bills to guarantee your son a future and happy life.

The Subculture I Choose Is Vampire Lifestyle
This essay is talk about the culture. The subculture I choose is Vampire Lifestyle. In
this essay, I will talk about the theoretical perspective, what is culture and how it
connect with counter culture, how it has been affected by the consumerism and how
it held together by the cultural capital. I choose the symbolic interactionism for my
theoretical perspective. From sociological perspective, symbolic interactionism most
concerned with the face to face interaction between members of society. Symbolic
interaction reminds us that cultureis a human creation. In society, culture consists of
the shared symbols and their definitions that people create to solve real life problems.
Culture define in many words. For example, particular patterns of behavior, the
symbol, language, and way the people things, etc. My main point is symbol. Symbol
is concert objet or abstract term. In another word, the meaning of the symbol is
something that represent something. Culture is the primary means by which human
adapt to their environment (page no.69). In reality, we create culture to solve our real
life problems. There are three survival kits for culture. They are abstraction,
cooperation and production. But, my focus is on the first two. Abstraction means
ability to create general concepts that organize sensory experience in meaningful way.
Abstraction is most pervasive type of symbol in human culture. Language is also an

Frankfurt Auschwitz Trial Research Paper
My topic will be focusing on the Frankfurt Auschwitz Trials; which was one of the
major trials that attempted to prosecute Nazi perpetrators in Germany after the
Holocaust. It was also significant for focusing exclusively on crimes that were part
of the Holocaust, rather than war crimes. The Holocaust was the systematic
persecution and murder of six million Jews by the Nazi regime and its collaborators.
As the largest and most extensive trial in postwar Germany, the Frankfurt Auschwitz
Trial was an important step in drawing public attention to the crimes committed by
Hitler and his Nazi soldiers, as well as to thousands of survivor testimonies describing
the torture, starvation and murder that the millions of Jewish people endured during
this devastating period in Germany.

The trial attracted a lot of public recognition in Germany, but considered Fritz
Bauer; who played a significant role as a Judge and prosecutor on the trails, was
quoted to say that the trials in a macro scale was a failure. Only 22 SS members
were charged, with an estimate of 6,000 to 8,000 who were thought to have been
involved in the administration and operation of the camp. Six officials received
life sentences, and many others were given long sentences. However, several were
given on average 3 7 years and it is documented that four were acquitted and
released. It was the first time individuals responsible for the Nazi s methods of
exterminating Jews and people of other minorities were brought before national
courts in Germany. In my focus, I would also like to show emphasis on the 360
witnesses who were called to testify, of which 210 were survivors of the Holocaust

Musical Analysis Of Songs Without Words
Musical Analysis of Songs Without Words, Op. 19, No. 3 by Felix Mendelssohn
Felix Mendelssohn composed Songs Without Words, Op. 19, No. 3 during the
Romantic Period. It is known as a hunting song. The form of this song can be
categorized as a rondo. This can be argued because the A theme that begins at
measure 5 reappears throughout the song about two times. It comes back at
measures 50 and 83. In between these A sections are a B section and a C section.
The B section starts in measure 29 and the C section starts at measure 67. Measures
1 5 are a short introduction. The A section begins at the fourth beat of measure 5 and
is in A major. The A section ends in a half cadence
, which is an E major chord. The B
section, which starts on the fourth beat of measure 29, is in C sharp natural minor.
This is the relative minor of E major, which was the final chord of the first A
section. At measure 49, there is a modulation back to A major which leads into a
second A section beginning at measure 50. However, this A section is different
mainly because the melody appears in the left hand and the section ends in an
imperfect authentic cadence instead of a half cadence. This cadence is at the
downbeat of measure 67, and there is no modulation to E major this time. The C
section begins at measure 67 and is in A major. This section acts more as a
transitional section that leads into a new statement of the main theme at measure 83.
The final A section restates the main theme one last

Alcohol may be man s worst enemy, but the bible says love your enemy Frank

Egyptians are cited as having had some form of alcohol(Hirst). Sura was a prominent

nineteenth century marks the beginning of a great push for temperance during the
Second Great Awakening; this was founded upon an increased level of alcoholismin
Europe and America during a time of Industrialization that called for the need of
reliable workers (Holt). The Puritan push for temperance became stronger, and in
1826, the Society for the Promotion of Temperance was formed with over five
thousand chapters across the United States; this group was partly responsible for the
implementation of the illegality of buying alcohol in many states on a Sunday
(Indiana is the only state in which this law remains in effect) and for the movement
that preceded the Prohibition in 1920 (Holt). The Prohibition disallowed Americans
to produce, import, transport, or sell alcoholic beverages; it lasted for thirteen years
until the twenty first amendment ended it because of the reaction it sparked (Holt).
In the twenty first century, the minimum drinking age in all fifty states in America is
21 years old. The science of alcohol, the social science of alcohol, and the
international usage of alcohol factor into the controversy of this magic number: 21.

considered an extremely controversial incident, but also a contradicting case. Is it a

who use excessive force on black members of society? By analyzing the incidents
leading up to this event, the actual evidence presented in the trial, and the police

Abstract
Advertisement is nowadays necessity and not an option. Advertisement plays a vital
role in present world and is not limited to any particular sector. And is also not

Positive effect of Advertisement
The positive side of advertising is that it makes you aware that a product or service is
available. New and improved products are developed all the time and we can t be
expected to keep track of these developments ourselves. So its manufacturer helps us
in our lack of awareness and tells us: Our new and improved product is now even
better! Go out and buy it!
Advertising can also be used to generate awareness among public that which
product they use and to which product they can say no. It can also be used to
educate people about certain diseases or danger. Even the backward people are now
aware of many diseases and their problems. And all these credits goes to proper
advertising. Diseases like Polio could never been controlled if the timings for polio
drops aren t advertised regularly.
Advertising can also be used to inform public about social events like concerts and
concerts. Charity can use media to advertise about the diseases and encourage people
for aids. Social organizations and NGOs can use the mean of advertisement for
helping their campaigns. Seeking help through advertisement during epidemics or
natural disasters can help a
Why Does Sexism Exist
We are all connected to everyone and everything in the universe. Therefore,
everything one does as an individual affects the whole. All thoughts, words, images,
prayers, blessings, and deeds are listened to by all that is ( Serge Kahili King
Quote ). What this means is, everyone is connected in one way or another, so when
something happens, it affects everything in this world, from the smallest bacteria, to
the largest whale and everything in between. In this following paragraph, I m going
to tell you about Melanie Martinez and how she grew up to become the singer that
she is today. Melanie Martinez was born on April 28, 1995 in Astoria, Queens. She
didn t have very many friends throughout high school because she was labeled as very

I personally feel like sexism is an issue because of the way people were raised and
what they believe. Sexism is discrimination and stereotypes against a gender. It is
most commonly against women and girl( Gina Masequesmay ). Some people
believe that men are better than women, and women are emotional and weak, so
they aren t good leaders and shouldn t be in control of anything social, political, or
anything business related. Since women are believed to be weaker than men, our
work isn t valued as much as a man s work( Gina Masequesmay ). An extreme
version of sexism is misogyny. Misogyny is the hatred of women. In societies that
have a high concentration of misogyny, there is a very high rate of violence to
women, where there is domesticated abuse and they are raped and treated like
property. The only solution to gender equality is to change the sexist institutions
and culture( Gina Masequesmay ). Feminism is believing that everyone should be
equal. The feminist movement fought for the abolishment of sexism and the
establishment of women s rights as equal under the law . The statement was also
said that the disentanglement of gender from biological sex was an
accomplishment in a large part of feminism which claimed that one s sex does not
predict anything about one s ability ( Gina Masequesmay ). But, some people also
believe in reverse sexism. Reverse sexism is where men and boys believe they are
being discriminated against. When the men s movement was created, they
reasoned that it was time to focus on men and their oppression, some men feel
targeted against feminism( Gina Masequesmay ). I personally think that men and
women both get discriminated against in society, but it seems worse for women
and girls. I believe that the only way to ever get rid of this issue is for businesses to
pay and treat everyone equal, social media to not influence the idea of sexism being
a good thing, and be a good influence and show everyone
NFL Play 60 Campaign Planning Strategies
first paragraph introduce the organization/campaign
In the United States, the percentage of children and teenagers affected by obesity
has more than tripled since the 1970s. Data from Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention (2018) show that nearly 1 in 5 school age children and young people (6
to 19 years) in the United States has obesity (CDC, 2018). Energy imbalance is a
key factor behind the high rates of obesity seen in the United States and globally
(Fryar, 2012). The negative factors of eating and physical activity behaviors has
taken its toll on America. The National Football League (NFL) kicked off their
campaign, Play 60, to help change the complications of childhood obesity. second

Corporate advocacy defined by Simons, Morreale, and Gronbeck explain that many
corporations take stands on issues concerning the environment, public health, and
safety . (Simon, Morreale, and Grobeck 229 230). The NFL is huge corporation in
the United States. The campaign definitely takes stands on public health and safety
issues. Woodward and Denton, Jr., give information regarding corporate advocacy,
issue campaigns attempt to get audiences to support a certain course of action or
belief independent of official political structures, systems, or procedures (Woodward
and Denton Jr. 237). This also is portrayed in the Play 60 campaign because they are
attempting to have parents and their children support the campaign. We can also see
parts of the advertising and public relations campaign involved too. Advertising
campaigns usually consist of a series of messages with a common theme presented
through a variety of mediums such as billboards, radio, television, and the internet.
The NFL advertises these mediums to persuade their audience to join the campaign.
Without the aspect of advertising, the information would not get out as quickly.
Public relations campaign goal is to forever promote the organization, person, or
employer. The NFL has a group of people that constantly promote the organization,
from organizing events, writing stories, and contacting athletes.

We have identified four basic types of reaction to organizational change. Where do
your change recipients sit? Enthusiasts| These change recipients are intrinsically
wedded to the change idea. They may agree dispassionately that the change will be
of benefit to the organization, or they may stand to receive some personal gain
from the change, such as a guarantee of job security, more status or a higher salary.
Enthusiasts will use opportunities to broadcast approval for the change and will try
to convince others of its merits. They will also model the new behavior early and
will volunteer for membership of teams. These early adopters may also make good
choices as trainers and coaches during the implementation process.| Followers|
Followers range from those that are generally compliant, wishing to take the path of
least resistance, to those that are initially reticent to adapt, but eventually do so once
they accept the inevitability of the change. These change recipients will do what is
required, but no more.| Objectors| Objectors will display their resistance to change
whenever the opportunity arises. They may disrupt meetings, not attend training, take
unapproved leave and refuse to carry out instructions. Objectors will continue to use
superseded systems and processes when others are taking up the new ways of doing
things. They are not averse to
Apple s Personal Computer Product Line Essay
Currently Apple makes products such as the Mac computer, iPhone, iPod, iPad,
and Apple Watch. But when time back to January 9, 2001, Apple s product line is
limited. Most of their products are personal computer and computer accessory. The
most famous product at that time is Macintosh which is known as MAC now. The
Macintosh was released on January 22, 1984 which is 32 years ago. Now the
Apple s personal computer product line has largely expanded. Apple now makes
product like Macbook, Mac Air, Mac Pro, Mac Mini, iMac which satisfied their
customer from all needs. When time went to the 21st century, Apple also has
revolutionized the music listening and downloading industry when it launched the
iPod, in 2001, and iTunes, in 2003[5]. We could not forget about the moment at
Macworld Conference Expo in January 2007 where Steve Jobs introduced the
revolutionary iPhone, a convergence of an Internet enabled smartphone and iPod
.[4] The first generation iPhone was released on June 29, 2007 priced from $499
(4 GB) to $599 (8 GB) with an exclusive contract with one of the largest service
provider AT T. After that momentous date, the iPhone product line became a huge
success[6]. In 2010, Apple released the iPad, which lead to other companies creating
similar products that would not match up to the iPad[7]. Since Apple has so many
products, the iCloud was created so users could connect all their Apple devices and
store their data. A strategic issue Apple needs to
Rauner Education Essay
Illinois Governor Rauner Education Policy In August of 2017, Governor Rauner
signed into law new changes to state funding for education. His goal was to treat all
low income families equitably and fairly. By doing so, he proposed that school
funding should be dispersed throughout the state rather than just given to Chicago
district (Runge 1). He also wanted more of the money to go to the classroom rather
than funding the broken pension system which is what the original policy was doing.
They finally came to an agreement on August 31st. This new plan not only focused
on dispersing the funds throughout the state, but it also reduced property taxes and
allowed for a tax credit for those that donate to private school scholarship funds (Hall

Their income should not keep them from the right of education. Not only is this bill
affecting the children, but it is also affecting the parents and teachers. For example,
the teachers don t have to worry about schools not being able to open due to a
shortage of money from the state. Also, parents with low income no longer have the
stress of their children not getting the same education as those with higher income.
Education is a unifying topic and should not be dividing our country. This bill is
considered to be historic bringing opportunity back to all Illinois students. This bill
brought a lot of rise from legislators and interest groups. The Democrats and
Republicans could not come to an agreement for far too long. Democrats were
fighting for more funding for all districts, but they also wanted CPS to get $286
millon more for pensions and general state aid (Dardick 3). Republicans were
fighting to take away grant money from Chicago and spread it throughout other
districts. This would mean that the schools in the city would see a $38 million cut
or $177 million more funds all depending on their pension (Dardick 3). Some
worried that money was going to be taken away from Chicago, but that did not end
up being the case. Not only did the funds get spread out amongst the state, but
Chicago actually ended up benefiting from the new plan as well. Rauner was
accused by many that he did not care about the lives of low income children of
Chicago since he said Chicago was
Island Of La Grande Jatte Analysis
Various artists use different visual elements to bring out their paintings as an
expression of an idea in the mind that connects with the viewer. The variation in the
components might result in some differences between paintings expressing the same
themes. Elements such as shape, color, and texture are important in the analysis of
art. However, various artists use these differences to create a particular impression.
The variations are responsible for the differences in the size of the artworks, the use
of colors, and the graphic weight of the medium. For instance, oil, charcoal, and
graphite to indicate the altitude in the painting. The comparison and contrast of the

It has not been shown that Streptococcus pyogenes is more common in one part of
the world than another. However, the rates of reports in the more central and
southern countries, such as the Czech Republic, Romania, Cyprus, and Italy, were
substantially lower (0.3 1.5 per 100,000 population) (Khan, 2009). If a person
believes that they have come down with strep throat, here are some ways one
might know if they have the disease. The symptoms of strep throat usually show
within 2 to 5 days. You first will develop a red throat with white patches; this is
when the tonsils are red and enlarged. There may be specks of pus on the tonsils.
The symptoms of strep throat are headache, abdominal pains, fever of 101В°F or
over, joint stiffness, trouble swallowing, and swollen lymph glands on the side of
your neck (Mayo Clinic Staff, 2010). The symptoms for scarlet fever are exactly
the same with that addition of a skin rash and a Strawberry like red and bumpy
appearance of the tongue, often covered with a white coating early in the disease
(Mayo Clinic Staff, 2009). If a person is uncertain about having strep throat they
should go to a doctor to get a physical exam. Doctors are able to run 2 different tests
to identify strep throat. The first test would be a rapid antigen test, which is when a
swab is used to take a sample of the fluid from the

Question: Examine the process of state creation in India through the lens of the short
story Toba Tek Singh written by Saadat Hasan Manto
Toba Tek Singh, a story about India s partition after independence written by Saadat
Hasan Manto, gives the readers an insight into the harsh realities of the process of
state creation. Through the non judgmental and sardonic tone of the narrative, Toba
Tek Singh compels the reader to think deeper about India s birth as a nation. India s
partition into two different countries purely on the basis of religion (Manto, 2011,
p. 70) gives us a reality check into how willing we are to accommodate diversity.
Toba Tek Singh urges the readers to ponder over the fact that state creation is an issue
beyond the mere geographical demarcation of borders, because it does not account for
the unquantifiable sentiments that the process affects, as well as propagates.
State creation involves political ideas and the struggle for power taking precedence,
with little or no regard for the opinion of citizens. This means that the state is not
being conceived as the sum total of its people and their interests, but a framework
within which power can be exercised. This is evident in the very first line of the
story which says that India and Pakistan had decided to exchange their lunatics, in
the very same way in which they had exchanged their criminals (Manto, 2011, p.70).
It seems like people are being

Persuasive Essay On Test Scores
Many students find their interests and discover who they are through extra curricular
activities, including arts and athletics. A heavy focus on raising test scores and
getting a maximum GPA are denying students this basic right. Schools are taking
vital days of learning away from students by dedicating full days to practice tests.
Many schools admit raising testscores is a main priority, according to principals
today. The pressure put on students to raise their schools status through test scores
and higher grade point averages is hurting our future generations. Despite test grades
and GPA s being the main focus, school systems today need to focus on building self
confidence and creativity while encouraging individualism.
Often a school with a strict focus on acceptance based on a combination of test
scores, grade point averages and class rank are not the best options to prepare one for
the future. William Deresiewicz mentions the fact of schools accepting lower ranked
students offer a better education program, while ivy league schools are focused on
more of a rhetorical or analytical education. Young adults need a chance to identify
themselves beyond the closed walls of a classroom. Discovering talents and hidden
passions without the pressure of conformity is what makes for the best education.
Diane Ravitch references the enforcement of recent laws, including No Child Left
Behind, causing an increase in schools cutting many not tested subjects. Students
growing up in less privileged areas have a huge disadvantage, because their budget is
so restricted. With the country s focus mainly being on high test scores these schools
cut the classes which do not increase their status. The classes having the biggest focus
in schools are mathematics and reading, which will not help students either not
continuing on to higher education or students needing help identifying themselves.
Schools offering either hands on classes or creative courses during or after school
hours provide a broader look into options for the future while also helping confused
student discover new interests.
While graduates from profound colleges are considered to be the most intelligent,
some of the most influential voices in change and the
2.2 Harm-Reduction Analysis
2.2Harm reduction perspective
The other perspective moves away from drug control approaches that criminalize
drug users to evidence based strategies that treat addiction as a chronic medical
disease. The harm reduction perspective begins with the assumption that it is not
reasonable to assume that individuals make healthy decisions. Examples of this
approach include NSEPs, Opioid agonist therapy, behavioral interactions, among
others. Proponents of this approach hold that those trapped in dangerous behaviors
often are unable and/or are unwilling to break free of them, and should be at least
enabled to continue these behaviors in a less harmful manner (Viahov et al, 2001).
Hence, treating drug dependency as illness absolves drug users of ... Show more

In 1988, 130 needle exchange programs were operational in the United States, with
the coverage of these programs varying widely. In 1999, the US had 160 programs,

there are 31 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico that have NSEPs.
What about the remaining 19 states, one may ask? Those states who excluded
themselves from this program are governed by political ideologies like Mike Pence,
former governor of Indiana, now the Vice President of US. Early state adopters like
Washington (1988) and New York (1992) have seen the rates of injection related HIV

Wainwright Building
The relationship between form and function had always been the core of Sullivan s
career. In his point of view, anything, whether it is organic or inorganic, could be
deemed as the representation of its content and function, and every particular function
has developed its own form. Sullivan explain this idea by illustrating oak tree in his
Kindergarten Charts, he wrote, generally speaking outer appearances resemble inner
purposes. For instances, the form, oak tree, resembles and expresses the function or

But, actually, what Sullivan really cares about is the form. Otherwise, he would not
have this much thoughts about the relationship between form and function. Sullivan
always gives high priority to architectural form, especially its ornament, but with a
kind of ambivalence in his mind. On the one hand, he believes that architecture could
be great without any decoration or ornament. On the other hand, thoughtful designed
ornament is also indispensable to architecture. Finally, he gave the answer, he thinks
particular ornament should be applied on the particular kinds of architecture, just like
different trees have various types of leaves. So, architectural form is not influenced
by the extrinsic factor, but the growth of itself. Now it is understandable why
Wainwright Building got such a luxuriant ornament on its top. Under the eave, the
surface between windows are extended, and sophisticated spiraled leaves surrounds
the circular windows. It is just the metaphor of the organic system of

ideologies and how their ideologies have shaped our laws today. Starting in 1952
with President Harry S Truman and ending fifty four years later with the presidency

Throughout the book, Rosen analyzes specific traits of judges such as political
parties and appointment reason and so on. Rosen uses direct quotes from the judges
to identify how judges have to lean away from certain beliefs and lean towards
other beliefs for the sake of keeping the country free and under control. In each
section, Rosen compares two justices and obviously favors one over the other. But, as
the author, he does recognize the flaws in his view, and the pros in the opposite view.
Rosen clearly favors justices who promote harmony in the court and create rulings
with unanimous decisions. But, Rosen will always comment on something positive
about a judge he does not favor, and will comment on something negative on the
justice he does favor, balancing himself out. Another key factor that informs the
reader about how the law came about to be how it is today is by judicial
temperament. Rosen uses this as a key point while comparing the justices. Judicial
Temperament describes the judge s general attitude towards the law, and other judges.
He states, If the pairings of judicial temperaments in this book suggest anything, it is
that courting attention and partisan approval in the short term is no guarantee of
judicial respect in the long term (Rosen). This means that while comparing and
contrasting temperaments that whenever something is decided, it doesn t mean it

Esther s Role And Power In The Book Of Esther
Esther. I will soon be becoming a bat Mitzah and when I enter adulthood I inspire
to be like Esther. For hundreds of years Esther s has been seen as a heroine, but not
due to her bravery or cunning actions, but for the way she followed orders. She has
been seen as a woman who follows the patriarchal system and a womanwhose only
power was her beauty. However, many people have overlooked the great courage,
heroism and intelligence that Estherpossess. Despite Esther not being recognized for
her bravery, these actions are highly relevant to young Jewish woman today as
Esther s characteristics can inspire young women to be fearless and stand up for what
they believe.
In the Book of Esther, Esther s role and power in the saving of the Jews is

This interpretation is seen through the way in which the author has used Esther to
show the ideology of gender and power. This is emphasised in the text through the
way in which Esther embodies the patriarchal values through her beauty and
obedience (Hancock, 2012). This belief existed largely in the Tanaka, as the first
book states that men were created first and women second, which set up a
patriarchal view for the rest of the books. From this setup, many scholars say that
although the book of Esther is named after the primary female character, it is told
by a man s world, but also for a man s world. That these are not stories of women,
but stories of female role models determined and fostered by the strongly
developed patriarchal ideology. (Fuch, 1999 ). Through the way in which Esther
embodies these values, she is seen as a woman who can only follow order. Many
scholars state that Queen Esther remains bound to the decrees of men... She has no
influence to bring to bear on this state of affairs for herself or for other women, due
to her blindness about her situation as a woman; at the single moment when power
is concentrated in her feminine hand, she hands it all over to Mordecai (Wyler,
1995). Through this Esther is not seen as a role model as she doesn t stand up against
the patriarchal

they would have tray that was made out of paper and then you would throw the tray

Women In College Sports
The articles, Title IX Under Fire As Colleges Cut Teams by Jean Marbella and
Carrie Wells and 40 Years Later, Title IX Is Still Fighting Perception It Hurts Men s
Sports by Gloria Goodale, share different viewpoints on Title IX. Marbella and Wells
share details and statistics showing that men s teams are sometimes cut in order to
meet Title IX s requirements. However, Goodale counters that the reasons for the
teams being cut was not Title IX, but the budgets of the university. She explains that
Title IX is being framed for these incidents (Goodale). Goodale and Marbella and
Wells argue two different viewpoints on the Title IX.
Title IX is beneficial to women in college sports. For starters, Title IX focuses on
access and participation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is true that some men s teams have been cut due to the inability to meet the
requirements of Title IX. In actuality, It is not because of Title IX, but because of
low budgets and administrative decisions. An alternative would be to reduce the
funds that go into publicity sports, such as football and baseball. Many argue that
adding women s teams does not work. While it is true that some schools have been
unsuccessful in the past, A lot of schools have managed to accomplish this. Even
Marbella and Wells cite that ВЁSchools such as the University of Maryland
Eastern Shore have started women s bowling teamsВЁ. Though some people may
argue that it does more harm than good, Title IX should remain in action. Goodale
and Marbella and Wells share two differing viewpoints on the effects of Title IX.
Marbella and Wells argue that Title IX puts men at a disadvantage. Goodale refutes
their claim with evidence that Title IX gives women a fair opportunity. Although
some men s teams have been cut, women have been given a fair chance. Title IX
gives women exactly want they need, a fair chance to join college
##arison Of Polanski s Chinatown And The Girl With The...
Introduction:
The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo follows Mikael Blomkvist, a journalist, and his
investigation in finding out what happened to Harriet Vander, a girl who disappeared
40 years ago. He recruits the help of a computer hacker named Lisbeth Salander, and
together they uncover the real truth and immense corruption behind Harriet s
disappearance. I will be exploring the connections and/or similarities between
Polanski s Chinatown and The Girl With The Dragon Tattooby referring to specific
examples and direct quotations. Chinatown and The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo
share many similarities and connections between the plot, setting, characters, themes
and techniques whilst also displaying certain differences.
Plot:
The plot in both films are similar but different when looking at certain aspects. Both
stories revolve around uncovering the truth and discovering what s really happening
underneath the surface. In both, the lies and the betrayals quickly pile up. The way
the truth is revealed is quite similar, but the cause of events that take place proves to
be different in many ways. Lisbeth Salander says to Mikael Everybody has secrets,
the trick is just finding out what they are. This quote sums up the importance of
discovering the bitter truth behind people s intentions in the film. Both films follow
an investigator and his investigation into a twisted and puzzling murder, but in
saying, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo follows two investigators which adds a

Breast-Feeding Vs. Bottle Feeding Is A Very Important...
Breast feeding vs. bottle feeding is a very important decision for new parents as well
as a very hot topic of debate for most heath oriented communities. Most health, family
and infant related communities and services such as the American Academy of
Pediatrics, American Medical Association, the World Health Organization, etc.
support and promote breast feeding infants. Their suggestion urges mothers to at least
breastfeed for the first few days after giving birth even if they decide to bottle feed
their infant(s), so that the infant(s) can get the health benefits from the mother s milk
and also so that the mother can alleviate some of the pressure in her breasts from the
milk production. Cost wise breast feeding is more cost efficient... Show more content

There are benefits to the mother for both breast and bottle feeding. When a mother
breastfeeds her infant for example, this allows for bonding between the parent and
child which actually can help prevented postpartum depression in new mother s.
Breastfeeding also helps mothers to burn calories helps to shrink their uterus. This
is beneficial in allowing new mothers to return to their previous weight and shape
sooner and healthier. It also helps to decrease the risk of breast, uterine and ovarian
cancer. Most mothers who breast feed also experience less postpartum bleeding.
Some basic comfort issues of breast feeding that are alleviate by bottle feeding is the
soreness and is comfort that many new mothers feel during breast feeding. This
includes the latch on pain that lasts about a minute during every breast feeding for
the first week and also nipple soreness and swelling. Although breast milk is slightly
healthier for an infant, good formulas can also offer the nutrients that an infant
needs so it isn t good to base the whole decision on this reason. This is not to say
however that it is a menial reason. Cow s milk can be allergenic to a lot of infants. It

First Person Narrative Examples Essays

  • 1. First Person Narrative Examples Essays Crafting an essay on the theme of "First Person Narrative Examples Essays" poses a unique challenge, as it necessitates a delicate balance between personal expression and adherence to structural conventions. The inherent complexity lies in seamlessly interweaving personal experiences or perspectives into a cohesive narrative while ensuring the essay remains informative and engaging for the reader. Navigating the intricacies of a first-person narrative demands a profound understanding of the chosen examples, as well as a keen awareness of the essay's overarching purpose. One must carefully select anecdotes, ensuring they not only illustrate the intended points but also contribute to the overall flow of the narrative. Balancing introspection with external examples requires finesse, as too much of either can disrupt the essay's rhythm. Moreover, the challenge extends to avoiding self-indulgence. While the first person provides a unique vantage point, the essay must transcend mere self-reflection and offer broader insights that resonate with a diverse audience. Striking this balance between personal narrative and universal relevance demands a meticulous approach to language, tone, and thematic coherence. Addressing the technical aspect, the essay must adhere to conventional structural norms despite the inherent subjectivity of the first-person perspective. This means incorporating a well-defined introduction, body paragraphs that seamlessly transition between personal and general examples, and a conclusion that synthesizes the narrative's key takeaways. Ensuring a logical and coherent progression is essential for the reader to navigate through the essay effortlessly. In conclusion, tackling an essay on "First Person Narrative Examples Essays" requires a nuanced approach, combining personal authenticity with adherence to structural norms. Successfully conveying meaningful insights while maintaining the delicate balance between individual experiences and broader relevance is a demanding task. However, with careful consideration and a thoughtful approach, one can navigate the complexities inherent in this writing challenge. Lady Gaga case study 9 512 016 REV: OCTOBER 15, 2011 ANITA ELBERSE MICHAEL CHRISTENSEN Lady Gaga (A) Let s get everyone in a room to discuss what to do, said Troy Carter, manager of up and coming pop star Lady Gaga, to his assistant as he walked into his Santa Monica office. It was September 2009, a week after the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) ceremony that had seen Gaga win a coveted Best New Artist award and that had featured a spectacular performance of her hit song Paparazzi ending with the singer songwriter, covered in fake blood, dangling from the ceiling but that had also led to the unraveling of Gaga s carefully crafted touring plans. At the VMAs, hip hop artist Kanye West with whom Gaga had planned to co headline a highprofile arena... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Recorded Music By some estimates, the recorded music business was an $8.5 billion industry in the U.S. (see Exhibit 1 for general trends in recorded music revenues, and Exhibit 2a for the bestselling artists in recorded music in 2008). Physical sales had fallen markedly since the early 2000s, while digital sales had grown to be a $1.6 billion share.1 Further declines of physical recorded music sales were widely expected, as several brick and mortar music retailers were struggling and mass merchants dedicated less shelf space to music. Digital outlets such as Apple s iTunes store and Amazon had seen strong growth: tellingly, iTunes accounting for roughly three quarters of all digital music sales had overtaken Walmart to become the largest seller of recorded music. Artists and labels Popular artists tended to have an exclusive contract with a record company (or record label ). Under the terms of such a record contract, artists usually committed to creating four to six albums worth of music, while the label agreed to manufacture, distribute, and promote that music. Beginning artists could expect an advance intended to cover living and other expenses in the range of $200,000 to $300,000; superstars sometimes received up front fees of $1 million
  • 3. Merging Agnew s General Strain Theory and Hirschi s Social... The two theories I have decided to merge are Agnew s General Strain Theory and Hirschi s Social Bond Theory. I picked General Strain Theory because it does a good job at discussing some of the things that can trigger the release of a person s negative emotions which in turn may lead to deviant behavior. I also decided to write about Social Bond Theory because it describes some of the factors that keep people from committing crime. Both of the theories have strengths and weaknesses individually, but when merged they help fill in each other s gaps. (Agnew, 2011; Hirschi, 2011) +1 (888) 295 7904 The proposal of Robert Agnew s General Strain Theory in explaining criminal deviance is based on three concepts. The first concept is that people... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Agnew, 2011) There are a lot of people who have lost their cell phones due to their own carelessness or it was stolen. Anyone who has lost their cell phone has experienced the first type of strain. Agnew plainly describes the strain as a result when individual s lose something good (Agnew, 2011. p. 190). The description Agnew gives comes off as being ambiguous and incomplete. Arguably, the strain of losing something good can be interpreted a certain way by someone and a completely different way by another person. A perfect example would be a drug dealer losing his cocaine. According to this theory he is more apt to commit a deviant act to get his cocaine back. Obviously the problem here is the fact that he was already committing a crime before the strain ever took place. On the other, a victim of identity theft has their entire savings wiped out. Consequently, due to their desperate need for money they become a prostitute. In this case the theory seems to hold true. The scenarios above appear to be completely different in all but two ways. The two ways in which they are similar are they both lost something important to them. The word good is not defined by what society approves or disapproves of. What s considered to be good is based on the individual s own definition. The second similarity is that their loss triggered negative emotions such as anger, depression, and frustration. Not only does the finale of Batman: Arkham Knight grant the legendary Arkham series the ending it deserves, but it also introduces so many new gameplay mechanics that it manages to outdo the previous installments in the series, thus becoming the very best comic book game in existence. If I am to be completely honest here, I have to say that Batman: Arkham Knight is possibly one of the best video games I ever got to play, period. Hold my hand, honey. Now push. Most side missions end with you confronting the villain behind it all, and instead of it going down with a good old fashioned boss fight, villains are easily knocked out by performing a Takedown of sorts (e.g. Stealth Takedown, Vehicle Takedown and Dual Takedown). This is probably my biggest complaint with Batman: Arkham Knight, because I for one truly enjoyed the recurrent boss fight in previous Arkham games. In any case, almost all of these side missions are varied enough that they will keep you interested, and if not, you can always choose to chase another villain and come back to the initial mission later thanks to the simple and clear Mission

This world renown epic poem takes us on Eve s journey and others during the beginning of the world. After sin overtook Eve, she consequently changed, and her relationship with Adam and God changed; however, mankind can relate to her today despite her major flaws. The character of Eve in Paradise Lost can be described as curious, wise, and beautiful prior to the first sin of mankind. Just as Eve experienced shame beyond measure because of her sin, the same hold true today. The guilt and shame that sin creates far outweighs the pleasure that it may bring for the time
  • 7. The Aesthetics Of The Sublime The Aesthetics of the Sublime in Abstract Expressionism In the period between 14 March and 7 June 2015, the institution of the Royal Academy of Arts, based in the heart of London, takes an artistic importance even more significant than usual thanks to the organization of the exhibition dedicated to the painter Richard Diebenkorn, who works in America in the mid twentieth century. The first thing to emphasize about this event is that, to the European audience, the name of the artist may seem unfamiliar. Indeed, his success has been mainly limited to the US context. Moreover, it is significant that this three room show is the first opportunity for the UK audience to approach the art of Diebenkorn in more than twenty years. Thus, the exposition becomes not only an opportunity to see the works of art but also the instrument by which the visitor can take a journey through the different artistic phases that have characterized the life of the painter. Hence, while the first part of the display includes the initial experiments with abstraction, in the second Diebenkorn tries to find the way to express himself through the figurative art. In the third room, the viewer might be surprised to see that the development of the artist is actually his return to the beginning. In fact, even if differently compared to the early stage, in his later works, the creator returns to the Abstract Expressionism. Therefore, using a more geometric style given by vertical,

Infrared technology is being used with many historical art pieces as well. The painting could crack, fade or peel because the light causes the surface of the painting to rise in temperature. In other cases, infrared light can be used to literally see through art work to see what is hiding underneath it. Infrared radiation is close to the visible range, and can be detected using a certain type of camera used to collect infrared CCD images. Even more advanced cameras can detect a bigger range of radiation waves and can produce infrared reflectory images (IRFC). Musical Analysis Of Songs Without Words Musical Analysis of Songs Without Words, Op. 19, No. 3 by Felix Mendelssohn Felix Mendelssohn composed Songs Without Words, Op. 19, No. 3 during the Romantic Period. It is known as a hunting song. The form of this song can be categorized as a rondo. This can be argued because the A theme that begins at measure 5 reappears throughout the song about two times. It comes back at measures 50 and 83. In between these A sections are a B section and a C section. The B section starts in measure 29 and the C section starts at measure 67. Measures 1 5 are a short introduction. The A section begins at the fourth beat of measure 5 and is in A major. The A section ends in a half cadence , which is an E major chord. The B section, which starts on the fourth beat of measure 29, is in C sharp natural minor. This is the relative minor of E major, which was the final chord of the first A section. At measure 49, there is a modulation back to A major which leads into a second A section beginning at measure 50. However, this A section is different mainly because the melody appears in the left hand and the section ends in an imperfect authentic cadence instead of a half cadence. This cadence is at the downbeat of measure 67, and there is no modulation to E major this time. The C section begins at measure 67 and is in A major. This section acts more as a transitional section that leads into a new statement of the main theme at measure 83. The final A section restates the main theme one last

I personally feel like sexism is an issue because of the way people were raised and what they believe. Sexism is discrimination and stereotypes against a gender. It is most commonly against women and girl( Gina Masequesmay ). Some people believe that men are better than women, and women are emotional and weak, so they aren t good leaders and shouldn t be in control of anything social, political, or anything business related. Since women are believed to be weaker than men, our work isn t valued as much as a man s work( Gina Masequesmay ). An extreme version of sexism is misogyny. Misogyny is the hatred of women. In societies that have a high concentration of misogyny, there is a very high rate of violence to women, where there is domesticated abuse and they are raped and treated like property. The only solution to gender equality is to change the sexist institutions and culture( Gina Masequesmay ). Feminism is believing that everyone should be equal. The feminist movement fought for the abolishment of sexism and the establishment of women s rights as equal under the law . The statement was also said that the disentanglement of gender from biological sex was an accomplishment in a large part of feminism which claimed that one s sex does not predict anything about one s ability ( Gina Masequesmay ). But, some people also believe in reverse sexism. Reverse sexism is where men and boys believe they are being discriminated against. When the men s movement was created, they reasoned that it was time to focus on men and their oppression, some men feel targeted against feminism( Gina Masequesmay ). I personally think that men and women both get discriminated against in society, but it seems worse for women and girls. I believe that the only way to ever get rid of this issue is for businesses to pay and treat everyone equal, social media to not influence the idea of sexism being a good thing, and be a good influence and show everyone

They may agree dispassionately that the change will be of benefit to the organization, or they may stand to receive some personal gain from the change, such as a guarantee of job security, more status or a higher salary. Enthusiasts will use opportunities to broadcast approval for the change and will try to convince others of its merits. Education is a unifying topic and should not be dividing our country. This bill is considered to be historic bringing opportunity back to all Illinois students. This bill brought a lot of rise from legislators and interest groups. The Democrats and Republicans could not come to an agreement for far too long. Democrats were fighting for more funding for all districts, but they also wanted CPS to get $286 millon more for pensions and general state aid (Dardick 3). Republicans were fighting to take away grant money from Chicago and spread it throughout other districts. This would mean that the schools in the city would see a $38 million cut or $177 million more funds all depending on their pension (Dardick 3). Some worried that money was going to be taken away from Chicago, but that did not end up being the case. Through the non judgmental and sardonic tone of the narrative, Toba Tek Singh compels the reader to think deeper about India s birth as a nation. India s partition into two different countries purely on the basis of religion (Manto, 2011, p. 70) gives us a reality check into how willing we are to accommodate diversity. Toba Tek Singh urges the readers to ponder over the fact that state creation is an issue beyond the mere geographical demarcation of borders, because it does not account for the unquantifiable sentiments that the process affects, as well as propagates. State creation involves political ideas and the struggle for power taking precedence, with little or no regard for the opinion of citizens. This means that the state is not being conceived as the sum total of its people and their interests, but a framework within which power can be exercised. This is evident in the very first line of the story which says that India and Pakistan had decided to exchange their lunatics, in the very same way in which they had exchanged their criminals (Manto, 2011, p.70). A heavy focus on raising test scores and getting a maximum GPA are denying students this basic right. Schools are taking vital days of learning away from students by dedicating full days to practice tests. Many schools admit raising testscores is a main priority, according to principals today. The pressure put on students to raise their schools status through test scores and higher grade point averages is hurting our future generations. Despite test grades and GPA s being the main focus, school systems today need to focus on building self confidence and creativity while encouraging individualism. Often a school with a strict focus on acceptance based on a combination of test scores, grade point averages and class rank are not the best options to prepare one for the future. William Deresiewicz mentions the fact of schools accepting lower ranked students offer a better education program, while ivy league schools are focused on more of a rhetorical or analytical education. Young adults need a chance to identify themselves beyond the closed walls of a classroom. Discovering talents and hidden passions without the pressure of conformity is what makes for the best education. Diane Ravitch references the enforcement of recent laws, including No Child Left Behind, causing an increase in schools cutting many not tested subjects. Students growing up in less privileged areas have a huge disadvantage, because their budget is so restricted. With the country s focus mainly being on high test scores these schools cut the classes which do not increase their status. The classes having the biggest focus in schools are mathematics and reading, which will not help students either not continuing on to higher education or students needing help identifying themselves. Proponents of this approach hold that those trapped in dangerous behaviors often are unable and/or are unwilling to break free of them, and should be at least enabled to continue these behaviors in a less harmful manner (Viahov et al, 2001). This is emphasised in the text through the way in which Esther embodies the patriarchal values through her beauty and obedience (Hancock, 2012). This belief existed largely in the Tanaka, as the first book states that men were created first and women second, which set up a patriarchal view for the rest of the books. From this setup, many scholars say that although the book of Esther is named after the primary female character, it is told by a man s world, but also for a man s world. That these are not stories of women, but stories of female role models determined and fostered by the strongly developed patriarchal ideology. (Fuch, 1999 ).
