2. What Makes Augustine s Confessions Memorable
Maddie Yamona
Western Civilization II
Mr. Horswell
29 September, 2017
What makes Augustine s Confessions memorable
Augustine s Confessions was a major piece of work that heavily influenced the
religion back in his times. Augustine s Confessions is still read today because of the
relatability it shows in aspects of depression, love, and finding your identity.
Throughout the book Augustine goes through his life and the decisions he has made
and how they made him either a better or worse person. We can use Augustine s
Confessions as a tool to also evaluate our own lives and decisions because of the
way he judges himself and what he considers to be the best and worst things he has
done and why. Augustine goes through trying to find himself through things of the
world and then finally realizes why he can not when he steps back and looks at the
fact that he must first find himself in God.
Augustine finds himself going through hard times throughout the Confessions and
this includes the struggle with depression. Augustine loses one of his very close
friends and begins to become depressed, I raged and sighed and wept and worried, I
could not rest, I could not think intelligent. (Augustine. 64). When Augustine
becomes depressed he says that he does not want to be around people and people can
relate to this because when people are upset they want time to themselves to think not
time around other people. Another example of when Augustine is depressed is when
Augustine realizes how
3. Personification In The Once And Future King
T.H. White s novel, The Once and Future King, takes the reader on the journey of a
growing boy named Wart, who later takes the throne as King Arthur. This young man
grows into a powerful, ambitious monarch who is trying to start a revolution in
England, but is faced with a plethora of challenges. Throughout the novel, White uses
many different passages to foreshadow King Arthurs magnificent reign to its tragic
downfall. By using many different techniques, White leaves prevalent hints for the
reader to connect together as the tale continues. White s use of vivid imagery and
foreshadowing is first seen when Wart and Kay had just successfully killed their
first rabbit dead and celebrated by shooting an arrow straight up into the sky. Up
and up it went, not weaving as it would have done with a snatching loose, but
soaring, swimming, aspiring to heaven, steady, golden, and superb. (55). The use of
personification of the arrow can also be a symbol for Arthur s youth and how he
carries it with him through the entirety of the novel just like the arrow carries itself.
As the reader later discovers, this passage strongly foreshadows King Arthur s future
attempts to reform England and steer the country away from the might is right

Morgause is an actual witch that uses her power against him. White includes this to
emphasize the impact Queen Morgause is going to have on Arthur. Arthur is
extremely furious, He had loved his arrow s movement, its burning ambition in the
sunlight, and, besides, it was his best one (55). Arthur is a very calm person who
never lets his anger take over him, however, when his arrow is taken away he is
furious which should indicate to the reader that this unusual occasion is important.
The grand plan and the precise execution that took place was so cherished by Arthur;
little did he know it would all come to an
4. Persuasive Essay On My Grandmother s Death
For instance, Huttman asks, Did we really believe that we had a right to force life
on a suffering man who had begged for the right to die? (344). Although, I do
disagree with the Phil Donahue Show s audience calling Huttmann a murderer,
because she did not kill anyone at all. She only let Mac die when his body said that
the time was right. Huttman experiences his death, Then there was one soft sigh
and I felt his hands go cold in mine. Mac? I whispered, as I waited for his chest to
rise and fall again (344). Since Huttman expresses concern for Mac, and she does
nothing to cause his death proves to me that she is far from a murderer. Especially
considering that she comforted and sympathized him. After experiencing my
grandmother s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since she starts her story out by the audience calling her a murderer, this allows the
reader to decide for themselves as the story progresses. Enjoyably, the author makes
readers wonder two things: if we have a right to die and the position that the medical
field gets pushed into. Clearly, this passage is powerful, because Huttman uses
emotions from her, Mac, and his wife. Near the end, Huttman states, We do not have
a right to die (345). This end statement makes the readers wonder about what could
happen to them if they ever get put into this position. Putting this sentence at the end
makes the essay more influential. Meanwhile, the story builds up to the sentence, and
then that sentence leaves the readers wondering, and thinking about our right to die.
For the most part, Huttman s essay was exceedingly entertaining and I enjoyed her
work. Huttman used suspense and emotion throughout the entire piece. Huttman
explains, Each time he stopped breathing, sometimes two or three times in one day,
the code, the code team came again (343). Significantly, this sentence plays the
reader s emotion by showing how often Mac would pass away. Another example that
shows that this is entertaining is, I thought about what it would be like to stand
before a judge, accused of murder, if Mac stopped breathing and I didn t call a code
(Huttman 344). No doubt, this draws interest to the storyline and

Describe the three dedicated circuit network architectures discussed in the
textbook. Explain the strengths and weaknesses of each. Ring Architecture. Has a
closed loop with all PC s linked to the next one. Circuits are full duplex or half
duplex, which allows messaging in both directions around the ring. The fall back
is the time in which message can take to travel around the ring from the sender to a
receiver, since the messages have to pass through several different computers and
circuits, concluding in traffic delays which can pile up quickly. Star Architecture
connects all the PCs to a central PC which acts as the message router to an
appropriate PC. It s easier to manage because of the central PC receiving and
routing all the messages in the desired network. This allows the communication to
be faster than ring architecture since it only travels through two circuits to reach
the receiver. However, having only one central pc can create more problems since
its in change of all the messages on the network. This creates room for overload in
traffic and could potentially decrease performance overall. Mesh Architecture has
every PC connected to very other PC. This is a Full mesh network, and it s biggest
downfall is the high price. However, partial mesh most PC, but not all are connected
to each other. Although it combines star and ring, if
7. The Champagne Fairs
The first of the three themes stated by Abu Lughod is the European Subsystem and
how it plays a roll in the world system. Three topics emerge from this theme: Cities of
the Champagne Fairs (51), Bruges and Ghent (commercial and industrial cities of
Flanders) (78), and the merchant mariners of Genoa and Venice (102). First,
Champagne fairs. Champagne fairs were an annual cycle of trading fairs held in
towns within the Champagne region. Unfortunately the Champagne region does not
involve champagne. The Champagne region is northeast of France, lying between the
boundaries of Belgium and Paris, not excluding contemporary North Africa.
Champagne fairs were crucial in rekindling medieval Europes economy. They served
as a primary market for selling and trading, textiles, fur, leather, and other cultural
products. There were a series of six fairs all located in prime trading spots
(Locations: Lagny sure marne, Bar sur Aube, Provins, Troyes). Over time each fair
became subtly more advanced, ultimately reaching a point of organization and
development that was beyond its time. Merchants, as rapacious as they were, began
to establish means of credit, contracts, and business partnerships for trade. Traders
that came from over seas reasoned the creation of systems that made for flexible and
efficient arrivals and departures. These traders even had delegated agents to receive
payments for them. Word of who had what spread quickly as communication and
transportation began to integrate.
8. Characteristics Of Somerset Maugham s Writing Style
William Somerset Maugham was considered to be the popular English fiction writer
of the 20th century. He wrote many novels, plays and short stories, many of those
were admired as master pieces. It drew attention of the critics and readers due to its
multi dimensional aspects, which offered entertainment including the serious issues
of human life, for that matter it resulted in being popular fictionof the time.
His popularity urged many critics to analyze his work from different dimensions.
The critics discussed his works with the advantage to explore the qualities of
writer as well as to point out the flaws of his work. The critics discovered many
themes along with stylistic features of his novels in plays and short stories.
Maugham has produced a large number of fictional works and it seems impossible
to bring in all the reviews of his works. The literature review is generally based on
critic s opinion on his writing style and themes; it particularly talks about those

The simplicity as a common trait in all of his works, had influence on his readers
and critics. Swinnerton admires him as a true story teller due to his plain and
modest writing style. Maugham wrote for the writing s sake, he neither interfered
in political matters nor he struggled to be the guardian of society (19). Jack Collins
examined similar characteristic in Maugham s style. He justifies popularity of
Maugham as a writer by providing two reasons: firstly, he has the capability to
create a plot which is direct, it goes on with linear clarity that no one can find
obscurity in the plot. Secondly, his quality to develop the dramatic intensity has
remarkable effects on the story that it turns the characters into demonic forces (16).
This intensity in his works attracts the readers to pay honest attention while reading.
His works are the satisfaction of those people who like to get on with the story

10. The Magnetic Field Of Magnets
Abstract Summary
Magnets have a magnetic field surrounding them and these fields is the magnetism
force that the magnet poses of an object. On a large scale, the Earth is a magnet
which also has a magnetic field.
Magnets also has North and South poles which can flip. The amount of magnetic
material attracted to the magnet, allows the magnet s poles to flip. Flipping on the
earth s magnet could cause destruction on the earth. The magnetic field protects earth
from solar radiation.
Purpose of the Experiment:
The purpose of this experiment is to discover if a magnet physically turns or if the
magnetic field weakens to allow the North and South poles to flip.
Methods:
Lay the bar magnet on a flat surface so that it is facing a particular direction other
than North. This allows to see if the magnet physically towards the North.
Place some nuts and bolts on the magnet (same amount throughout the experiment)
Tip magnet upside down and observe how many nuts and bolts fall off of the magnet.
Record observations.
Repeat the above steps several times, adding the same amount of nuts and bolts at the
same distance as used in the beginning of the experiment. Every time that the
experiment is repeated, observe and record the amount of falling nuts and bolts
Conclusion:
The hypothesis was correct but is was also wrong because the magnetic field did
weaken but the magnet also physically turned. This shows that for magnetic poles to
flip, the magnetic field needs to weaken

The rise of modern American liberalism throughout the history
Having been born in Europe in the epoch of Renaissance and Reformation, the
liberalism has become an inevitable part of the United States. When someone and
somewhere talks about the liberal movement, everybody will mention the American
liberalism, which has undergone several stages of its development and transformed
into modern liberalism. This liberalism allows the United States to be one of the most
powerful states in the world.

It claims on different freedoms of people despite their gender, race, and age. Also,
one of the principles of American liberalism is the separation of state and church.
The main aim of liberalism is to promote the general welfare of the American
citizens. However, sometimes the liberalism was too controversial. For example,
the involvement of the United States to the wars violated the rights of people.
Speaking about the WWI, George William Norris wrote that war brings no
prosperity to the great mass of common and patriotic citizens. It increases the cost
of living of those who toil and those who already must strain every effort to keep
soul and body together. War brings prosperity to the stock gambler on Wall Street to
those who are already in possession of more wealth than can be realized or enjoyed
(149).
Such eager of American people to live in a free society is well understandable and
can be explained by several factors as well. The ultimate goal of the American
social ideal is equality of opportunity and individual initiative. These are not born
of bureaucracy. This ideal is the expression of the spirit of our people. This ideal
obtained at the birth of Republic. It was the ideal of Lincoln; it is the ideal upon
which the nation has risen to unparalleled greatness (205). To another word, it is a
heritage of all generations, which made their

THE BASIC IDEA
In the field of physical science it has been proved that absolutely everything can be
scientifically reduced to one ultimate invisible Essence, something which cannot be

everything must have, and still does, come from It. According to one s way of
thinking, different names are given to It: Energy, Principle, Universal Intelligence,
Universal Mind, Consciousness, Spirit, God.

That too is an inescapable realization drawn from the premise of an infinite being.
The Infinite cannot be one with just one of us. It must be one with every one of us.
Each and everyone is one with the infinite One, God. If you doubt that Jesus came to
this conclusion, then consider one question: Why did he say that when we pray we
should pray to Our Father, rather than his Father? We are all one with the infinite
One. I think that we must accept this premise because it is reasonable; but my
insistence that others think and reason as I do would be unreasonable. Anyone can
ignore the infinite One; they just can t be separate or apart from It. We can ignore our
heritage, our inheritance and our inherent nature. Nevertheless it is with us, even
thou we deny it. You can ignore reality, but it doesn t go away.
One Reality The Apostle Paul wrote: In him we live, and move, and have our being
[Acts 17:28] Jesus said: Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the
kingdom of God is within you. [Lk. 17:21] God would have to be very small to be
within all, and very large to include all. However, to resolve these two extremes, God
need only be infinite. Remember what Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote in his essay,
History:

And it cometh everywhere. When we envision a God that is omniscient, omnipotent

Tillman Hall. This is the name of the main building on Winthrop University s
campus and is the name of the clock tower at Clemson University. These two
buildings have faced quite a number of racial incidences over the past couple of
years due to the founder of the two buildings, Benjamin R. Tillman. Many people
have raised the issue of having the name changed to something different over the past
couple of years but no changes have been made. There hope is to end the racial
incidences that occur and ultimately stop racismon these two campuses. The major
question at hand is will changing the name of Tillman Hall reduce the number of race
induced incidents? I do think that changing the name of Tillman Hall on both of
these two campuses will reduce racial incidences due to the fact that this changes the
atmosphere of the school and really holds itself up to its diversity standard, the
changing of the name does not change history but it shows that we as a people have
come far and don t need someone like Benjamin Tillmanat the center representing us,
and it is very likely that these racial incidents will be put to an end as the violent

Is the concept of prokaryotes valid and useful or fundamentally flawed? Since the
establishment of the basic concept of classification of organisms by Carl Linnaeus
(Encyclopaedia Britannica) and Charles Darwin s theory of evolution, various
ideas and concepts have been suggested. After being repeatedly reviewed by a
number of experts, some of them are accepted and this has enabled scientists to
classify organisms, to recognise the connections between them despite of different
physical appearance and to improve the understanding of evolutionary relationship
between them. However, as time goes by and technology develops, the unknown
aspects of organisms are being discovered and it arises several controversial points
regarding the concepts and the principle of taxonomy. This essay will address one
of those controversies, the validity of the concept of prokaryotes. Humankind
needed a guideline in order to comprehend the nature of organisms. For that reason,
scientists began to arrange organisms formally into groups called taxa. Ernst Mayr
defined taxon as a single taxonomic group of any level that is unique and
independent from other groups. (Mayr, 1981) Since then, several diverse hypotheses
were suggested and majority of scientists agreed to classify organisms into two major
domains, eukaryotes and prokaryotes. At that time, the principle of two domains
seemed to be fairly reasonable and was widely accepted amongst scientists. Since
then, the same definitions for those two

essential life skill. Sammy recalls on that day three barefoot teenage girls, in

and conveys a very clear image of their actions. He categorizes them based on their
looks and what they were wearing. Sammy says things like, There was this chunky
one, with a two piece... , and also ... there was this one, with one of those chubby
berry faces, the lips all bunched together under her nose (Updike 1). The way he
describes the last of the three girls would cause you to grasp the idea that he was
fond of her. He tells us that she was tall with black hair. He goes on to explain that
other girls would think she was very striking and or attractive. He proclaims her as

Literature Review: The difference between Bisimulation and Forced Simulation
Haowei Zheng hzhe024@aucklanduni.ac.nz 1.INTRODUCTION
Currently, component reuse techniques have become more and more important for
handling the rapidly increasing complexities of component based embedded system.
Bisimulation is a well known technique which has been proposed in the very early
stage of simulation development. It provides the functionality of checking for process
equivalent in process algebras. Many applications have been developed by using this
technique. However, there are still some issues regarding using bisimulation
technique. One specific issue is component matching problem. To better resolve this
problem, a new technique which is called forced simulation is proposed and
developed. In this article, we will carry out a literature review to discover the
difference between forced simulation technique and bisimulation technique.
In the following sections, first of all the component matching problem will be
explained more detailed. Then the definition of bisimulation and forced simulation
will be shown. After that, an example of these two different techniques will be shown
for comparing the difference between them.
2.COMPONENT MATCHING PROBLEM
In component based embedded system, component reuse methodologies has been an
important focus of industry since the complexities of modern embedded system are
increasing rapidly. However, there are several unresolved issues in this

used in Piaget s study to build his theory. It is found that Piaget s theory does not
combine cultural context and social context with the development itself and lacks
scientific evidence. Moreover, problems in his research methods... Show more content

Furthermore, to emphasise on cultural influences on cognitive development, Carl
Ratner mentioned in the articleHistorical and Contemporary Significance of
Vygotsky s Sociohistorical Psychology that Vygotsky and Luria (1930/1993)
argued that a significant cultural reconstruction has to take place in order for the
child to shift from the stage of primitive perceptions to the next one to the stage of
competent forms of adaptation to the external world For example, although Piagets
sees that children understand conservation after the pre operational stage (2 7
years), Joseph C.Berland illustrated in his writings that Price Williams et al. (1969)
showed that pottery making children as young as 6 were able to conserve.
However, it is noted by Case and Okamoto et al. that some children from certain
cultures are not able to pass conservation tests until they reach puberty while some
never pass these tests. In other words, Piaget s theory may be limited to be more
representative of children from a certain culture. Second, apart from the limitations
due to Piaget ignoring cultural influences, some are related to Piaget overlooking
social influences. Without considering the social context, such as the influence of
adults or social surroundings, Piaget s theory may not be applied to

21. Sources Of Law And European Convention On Human
Rights Essay
Starting with the fact that sources of law in Wales and England are similar, there
are 4 sources of law, which are: Statute Law, Common Law, European Law and
European Convention on Human Rights. First of all, Statute law is a written law
passed by a legislature on the state of federal level. An example of it would be
В«Theft Act 1968В». It is the first and primary source of law and it is created by
proposing a Bill in Parliament. After three readings of the bill in House of
Commons and House of Lords and afterwards in Royal Assent is received and
approved, then it becomes a satute which must be enforced by courts. Secondly,
there is a Common Law. Common Law is created by judiciary and it is also known
as В«case lawВ». However, the Common Law could be amended or overridden by
Statute Law, EU LAW and/or Human RightsLaw. Third is European unionlaw. It was
created as a result of European Communities Act 1972. There are four principal
institutions, which are: The council of the EU, European Commission, European
Parliamentand European Court of Justice. They make the decisions concerning laws.
Finally, there is European Convention on Human Rights. It came into effect in
October 2000. It takes care about main provisions of the European convention of
Human Rights into the UK law.
Those sources of law divide in internal and external, Common and Statute are internal
while European Union law and European convention on Human Rights are external
laws. Internal laws refers to laws that
22. Hollow Men Analysis
The Real Life (A Discussion on Three Messages in T.S. Eliot s Hollow Men) T.S
Eliot was the most famous English poet of his time, and he was one of the most
influential poet. His distinctive style of writing took the attention of not only
other poets, but many people all over the world. Thomas Stearns Eliot is best
known as a poet and literary critic (he received the Nobel Prize for literature in 1948),
but his work in social and cultural theory has also been widely influential
(Edwards). T.S. Eliot s style of writing was mostly a pessimistic view on life. One of
the best examples of his pessimistic view on life comes from his work The Hollow
Men. The Hollow Men is a short part of the title The Waste Land by T.S. Eliot. The
Hollow... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Hollow Men by T.S. Eliot expresses the message of modern life doesn t
appreciate faith. T.S. Eliot came to the conclusion that people of the modern
generation have lost their faith that people once had. Eliot was nothing if not a
seeker: seeking to reconcile the culture he saw with what he hoped it to be;
seeking to reconcile an inner despair with a parallel want of faith (Dobrinska). In
The Hollow Men Eliot describes how people don t put religion above all things
important anymore. He explains we shifted to craving liberation not religion. At
the end of the poem, eliot tries to recite God s words but is unable because the
modern world no longer knows them. For thine is, life is, for thine is the (91).
Eliot ends the poem with these words to really hit hard the point that religion is
falling apart, and the modern world no longer believes in the idea. T.S. Eliot s last
message in his literary work The Hollow Men is that the modern world lack
integrity. Eliot explains that the modern world is afraid to meet our ancestors in
the other side. Let me also wear such deliberate disguises (32). The modern world
is embarrassed about the lives we live. The modern era hides their face from the
ancestors because our lives are not as valuable as their lives once were. The modern
era doesn t accomplish as much importance as the times before. It contains the poet s
reflection on the subject of human nature in this world, and
23. Samurai Vs Knights Research Paper
Halfway across the world from each other, the samurai and knights lived the lives of
powerful warriors. Although they had many differences, they also had many
similarities. Some of these similarities and differences were found in their training,
armor, and codes. Both of the knight and samurai warrior s training began in
childhood. They also both had a form of spiritual training accompanying their
physical training. Another similarity was that they both showed loyalty to their
masters. According to Document A, Samuraiwere expected to live according to
Bushido, a strict ethical code influenced by Confucianism that stressed loyalty to
one s master, respect for one s superior, ethical behavior in all aspects of life, and
complete self discipline. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another difference is that while samurai were fierce warriors, they also studied
poetry and were very cultured. This is not true for the knights. Next, the armor of
both the samurai and knights were made of small metal pieces. They also were very
heavy, however the knight s armor was much heavier. Also, both types of armor
became obsolete after the invention of guns was made. A difference in the samurai
armor was that there was no armor on the samurai s right arm, compared to the
knights, who wore armor over their entire body. According to Document C,
Samurai did not wear armor on their right arm so they could easily draw their bow.
Another big difference was that Samurai armor was made of iron, while the knights
was steel. Both the samurai and knights had moral codes as well. The samurai s
moral code was known as Bushido, and the knight s code was called chivalry. Both
of these codes stressed loyalty to the warrior s master, and that honor is very
important. However, a difference is that a samurai s code says that they must punish
anyone who does not follow The Way , but the knight s code said that they must give
mercy to anyone that asks of
24. Global Information Systems ( Gis )
Global Information Systems In this critical essay, I have tried to identify the major
processes of designing, developing, and implementing Global Information Systems
(GIS). I have also provided the discussion of how the level of Global Information
Infrastructures (GII) affects the design, development, and implementationof GIS, and
how these processes differ from those in a domestic context. Finally, I have also
explained how firms should employ appropriate GII to support these processes.
Design, Develop and Implement Global Information Systems
Implementing the GIS is a huge challenge for many multi national organizations.
There are numerous reasons for which a GIS is required, for example, to provide the
base IT support in each and every country, where the business units of the
organization are located. A properly designed, developed, and implemented GIS helps
exchanging information globally, and has also been flexible enough to provide local
features and functionalities (Markus, 2007).
An iterative approach is recommended at each phase of design, development, and
implementation of a GIS. Throughout the system development process a close
connection between the end users, the system analysts, and the technical team
becomes a high priority. The end users should be allowed to select, and prioritize the
most important requirements. The system analysts should be able to understand and
translate the non technical language of end users to the language understandable by

25. Why Volkswagen Will Race Ahead Of Auto Peers
Volkswagen (VLKAY), world s third largest automaker behind Toyota (TM) and
General Motors (GM), has been an exceptional performer in the automotive
industry, gaining 158% over the last five years. Although the U.S. is one of the
Volkswagens smaller markets, it is a top seller in the Europe and China. As the
company aspires to become the global industry leader by 2018, here are a few
reasons to back up its ambitious claim.
European auto industry poised for a rebound
Europe s beleaguered auto industry endured a six year slump, with auto sales
falling to the lowest level in nearly two decades, as a sluggish economic recovery
put a brake of spending. However, going by the recent data trend, the industry is
headed for a revival this year. European auto sale increased 7.6% in February,
marking the sixth straight month of sales increase, as steady economic recovery in
Italy, Portugal and Spain spurred demand for new cars, according to the Association
of European Carmakers (ACEA). The improving consumer confidence, amid a
recovering economy, is likely to drive a 2% to 3% upside in 2014.
Volkswagen, Europe s biggest automaker, is best positioned to benefit from the auto
industry rebound. As a matter of fact, it has significantly helped the region s
improved sales in recent months, posting rises of 8.9% and 7.2%, respectively, in
January and February this year. If demand holds up, Volkswagen can considerably
outperform the regional market this year. Furthermore, global auto sales

In the 1970s ghettos came to be a place of social isolation because of the
segregation between the Whites, and the Blacks. As a result, blacks were doomed
to stay in the poor neighborhoods because of racial issues among the people. The
ghettos were formed by the government putting the black people in communities
such as black belts , darkytowns , Bronzevilles , or Nigger towns that are
surrounded by poorly impoverished and well educated middle class blacks who
were forced to move in these neighborhoods, ones that are set up for failure. The
ghettos were kept because whites began to fear integration and they did not want

Anderson shows the street culture has evolved what may be called a code of the
streets which amounts to set of informal rules governing interpersonal public
behavior, including violence. The rules have been established and are enforced
mainly by the street oriented, but on the streets the distinction between street and
decent is often irrelevant; everybody knows that if the rules are violated, there are
penalties ( Anderson 2). In the Black ghetto neighborhoods if someone maintaining
eye contact for a long time on you, have to react in the poor inner city because that
s how individuals gain their respect. Decent and street coexist in the inner city of
the ghettos, a decent person may be a little bit different from a street people. A
decent person might not know the rules or codes of the street what to follow or not
but a street oriented person will be able to tell the rules of the street what to follow
or not. They will know what is going on in the streets, any neighborhood, and how to
react in situation because they experience it
27. The Iron Triangle For Healthcare
The Iron triangle for healthcare consists of cost, quality, and access; these three
characteristics when balanced create great healthcare. Managed Care
Organizations combine the three to offer consumers with care that is appropriate
for their individual needs. Our book describes managed care organizations as the
cost management of healthcare services by controlling who the consumer sees and
how much the service cost (Basics of the U.S Healthcare System, Niles). Taking a
look at the history prior to the Health Maintenance Organization Act of 1973
(HMO ACT of 1973) the implementation has been significant in balancing cost, and
quality control. Before this Act was signed in to law by President Nixon
healthcare costs were determined by fee for service. A fee for service or
indemnity plan is a plan that allows the provider to determine the cost of service,
this fee for service plan caused for healthcare costs to increase rapidly. An example
of this would be going to the doctor with neck pain, being told to stretch then
receiving a bill for 25,000 dollars. As could be understood the cost of healthcare had
became a problem.
A part of the problem of cost was the establishment of free healthcare for those
eligible for Medicare and Medicaid, between 1965 and 1971 where there was no
limitation on benefits. The cost of healthcare increased from 39 billion in 1965 to
75 billion in 1971. Providers had no concern for the cost of their care seeing that
SSA recipients had no limits
28. Airpower Impact On The United States Air Force
From the early age of airpower development in the United States, airpower
theorists, and advocates believed and prophesized, that airpower can win the war
by itself. Turning back to the age prior to the independence of the United States Air
Force (USAF) as a service, airpower advocates emphasized that bomber will always
get through and that it will produce decisive blow to the enemy and win the war.
Moreover, they argued that airpower alone could win the war quickly without the
need to employ other services, that it is cheaper because bombers replace large force
employment costs and precisely hitting only important targets avoids collateral
damage. That promise of the early airpower advocates continued to be the core belief
of the new independent United StatesAir Force after 1947. Looking its promise over
the past 70 years the airpower gradually advanced toward its fulfillment and with
rapid technology advances, that the USAF is highly dependent on, airpower
finally achieved its promise. The airpower proved to end wars more quickly and
save lives of solders, to cost less in order to achieve military and political
objectives, and to avoid collateral damage with its precision capabilities.
Nevertheless, implications of achievement of promise can be that airpower can be
used as a mean of political objectives that can severely limit or misuse airpower s
capabilities. At the early ages of the employment, the airpower gradually started to
achieve its promise through its

products, I can never replace Frito Lay brands. Takis were very popular when they
first came to the United States market and Frito Lay successfully positioned itself in
that market segment with Dorito Dinamitas. They offer many premium brands as
well as low priced brands. Cracker Jacks were repositioned to be aimed at value
shoppers (Strom, 2012). Their contests succeed in making consumers feel that they
have a voice in their brand and in turn will become more loyal. Their continued
licensing agreements with other firms will help to make a name for themselves
across many other markets. The Doritos Locos Tacos have been very successful for
their Dorito brand. Brands protect from competition and as this paper has shown,
Frito Lay has been very successful in their branding
30. A Brief Note On Plagiarism And Academic Theft
Citing is mainly used to avoid plagiarism, but a writer should always cite sources
in an essay and in presentations because they need to acknowledge the use of other
people s work . (McMillan, 2010: 192) Citing a source is important as it helps a
reader to understand how [an] argument was assembled and what influenced [the
writers] thinking (McMillan, 2010: 192) which helps a reader to form an opinion
on the work. (McMillan, 2010: 192) Citing demonstrates the writer s knowledge of
relevant sources and their capability to be selective in the materials chosen; then
incorporate this with the knowledge and information already obtained from lectures
and seminars, expanding on ideas and improving the argument. (Barrass, 2005: 132)
Plus it helps the reader to assess the extent of the writer s wider reading, which can
also help when giving feedback and advice. (McMillan, 2010: 192)
Plagiarism is academic theft, it is extremely important to avoid plagiarism not only
for academic purposes but also for legal reasons. It is when someone uses someone
else s ideas and written work within their own written work and without citing them,
therefore claiming them as their own ideas. Kirton (2007) states that providing
evidence is an important dimension of academic writing , so when quotations and
citations are not used a writer is plagiarizing someone else s intellectual property .
(Kirton, 2007: 155)
Plagiarism does not necessarily mean stealing word for word what someone else has
said,

Courage is defined as the quality of mind or spirit enabling one to meet danger or
opposition with fearlessness. According to Atticus Finch, one of the main characters
in To Kill a Mockingbird, Courage is when you know you re licked before you
begin, but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what. (pg.121).
Harper Lee clearly portrays the theme of courage in her novel, To Kill a

When Atticus took the case, he went up against Maycomb, a generally prejudiced
town, in order to defend Tom. He understood that taking the case would make him
an object of ridicule and that no one would forgive him for believing a black man s

practically telling him he was bringing disgrace to the family. Nevertheless, no matter
how much his reputation suffered, he did not change his mind. Standing up for his
morals and ethics was more important than what people thought about him. From the
very start Atticus knows he will not win the case however he does his job and

Atticus s strong sense of morality and justice motivates him to defend Tom

Simply because we were licked a hundred years before we started is no reason for
us not to try and win. (pg.82). He says this to Scout after she comes home from

The oldest civilization was in Mesopotamia between two rivers. Mesopotamia means
the land between the rivers. Hence the name, Mesopotamia is found in the Fertile
Crescent between the Tigris and the Euphrates Rivers, which is now known as Iraq.
Since the land was very fertile in Mesopotamia, the crops grew incredibly well and
that helped lead to the development of civilizations. Mesopotamiahad eight
civilizations: Sumer, Akkad, Babylon, Hittites, Assyria, New Babylon, Phoenicians,
and Israel. Sumer lasted from 3200 b.c. until 1900 b.c. Sumer was ruled by a king
who had the responsibility of maintaining the city walls and the irrigation systems.
Once the king passes, his power is then passed down to the next eligible son in the
family which is known as hereditary rule. Sumer was a Theocracy, meaning that the
religious leaders were in charge of the government and ruling system. The officials
or ruler of Sumer kept records, led armies into war, enforced laws, and collected
taxes. The people of Sumer were Polytheistic; they believed in many gods. There
was also a large religious stepped platform dedicated to every city state s chief god
or goddess named Ziggurat. Sumerians came up with the style of Cuneiform writing
and in addition they used a system of pictographs for communication. This helped
them document and keep records. They also had ideas and theories of Astronomy
and math. Sumer farmed and traded and it had the world s first cities, Ur, Uruk, and
Babylon. Overall ,

Abstract
In the last century with the invention of phase contrast microscopy by the Nobel
Prize winner Frits Zernike, nucleoli were among the most con spicuous structures.
The nucleolus was first de scribed between 1835 and 1839, but it had to go through
another century before it was discovered to be related with a specific chromosomal
locus, which marked it as a cytogenetic entity.1
At the end of the 18th century, Montgomery was the first to publish the monumental
monograph, which included color figures of nuclei and nucleo li.1
Based on the Montgomery work, further studies where conducted to analyze the
function of the nucleolus in the next century. In fact himself has studied nucleoli in
the oocytes of over 175 differ ent species and had approached at three re markable
conclusions that still hold true today: 1) In one cell there can be more than one
nucleolus;
2) Cells with higher growth are presented with more and larger size;
3) The last conclusion was, the size of the cells interfere with the size of nucleolus.2
After the 1960 numerous discovers made a huge impact in the modern science, one
of these is the study on the rRNA which lead to the conclusion that the nucleolus is
the site of ribosomal RNA synthesis and nascent ribosome assembly.1
In the early 70s it was observed that the ribonu cleoprotein precursors to ribosomes
contain two classes of protein. The difference between these proteins was thought to
be that one class could be recognized as ribosomal proteins,

The...
Children s literature is the precedent for the development of all children. Children s
literature varies from poetry to children s picture books. Every aspect of children s
literature gives an ability to grow a child mentally and develop their ideas and
imagination. In early literature, children were romanized to be perfect and well
behaved. Author Maurice Sendak counters the idea of a perfect child in his book
Where The Wild Things Are . Sendak uses his picture book to illustrate a child s
ability to have feelings of anger, resentment, and frustration. The interviewer, Patrick
F. Roughen of Red Feather Journal states that Where the Wild Things Are (1963)
contains some of the earliest attempts in children s literature to represent the
intrapsychic challenges of the lives of children. Anger, frustration, and the
complexities of parent child relationships can be found throughout its pages .
Where the Wild Things Are reinforces the idea that children are capable of
emotions that one would imagine are only depicted in the adult world. Maurice
Sendak s inspirations for Where the Wild Things Are come from his own personal
issues. Once stated by Sendak max was his dearest creation . Max gave life to the
feelings that most adults ignore that children can have. Sendak, in his childhood,
dealt with an emotionally unavailable mother and was frequently sick. This allowed
Sendak to develop his imagination. In his childhood picture books, one can find
images of characters that

safeguard the ecological integrity of the park and to provide to visitors the service
they desire. While managers attempt to resolve such issues, they find themselves in
a predicament where conflicting goals play a problematic factor. A diversity of
issues poses as threats to the flora and fauna, vegetation and landscape of parks
within Canada. Over the years, the ability to control fire, introduced plant life, losses
of species, urbanization and tourismhave contributed to significant issues that
managers face on a daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly basis. Largely, the

Not only are smaller provincial parks are immune to this issue but also parks on a
larger scale national parks.
3.Loss of Species / Increase in Fauna
The next issue to deal with is the introductions of species often unfavourably affect
the native fauna and flora. The newly emerged fauna can directly contend with
indigenous fauna for breeding sites and food. A possible harm that is negatively tied
with the foreign fauna also introduced diseases, wide spread of weeds and prey upon
native species (Louda 1997). Introduced species include domestic and feral cats,
domestic dogs, foxes, rabbits, blackbirds and the common starling. This issue is not
to be ignored as it is deeply tied into the overall appeal of why tourist may visit a park.
4.Fire
One issue that should not go unnoticed for park management is the control of fire.
The control of fire both negatively (forest fires) and positively (fire regime) should
be placed as a priority as it endangers both human life and the ecological footprint of
the park. Plant communities and their connected flora and fauna have progressed
over thousands of years under a natural fire regime. The use of fire has key effects
on ecosystems (Weber Stock, 1998). The effects of fire management may be
advantageous or undesirable, depending on the distinctiveness of the fire and the
nature of the area burnt. Fires have the possibility to cause soil erosion, alter stream
flow

The damaged tissues cilia, mucous membranes, alveoli, and capillaries are all
affected by smoking, but in different ways. The cilia s purpose is to filter out dust
and other particles that flow through the nose. However, the Cilia gets clogged with
cigarette toxins methane, carbon dioxide, and arsenic and this causes their functions
to slow down for hours at a time, making their system much less efficient, as well as
the mucous membranes to secrete excessive amounts of mucous, causing symptoms
of a cold. The toxins build up a layer of mucus and tar which the cilia are unable to
breakdown. Tissues within the mucous membranes increase, so more clogging occurs
from smoking. This excess mucous can fester an infection and this overwhelms the

ANTICIPATORY SET:
The Teacher will enter the classroom and exaggerate the use of her senses by going
through each one and asking the students questions. For example, the teacher may
ask the students to describe the room, like what is smells like, what it looks like,
what the desks feel like, and then she asks them to close their eyes and tell her what
they hear.
BODY OF LESSON:
Procedure:
1. Introduction: The teacher will start the lesson by asking the students if they have
ever heard of the five senses. If they say yes, ask what they know about them. If they
say no, then say, Well today we are going to find out what the five senses are!
2. Body: The lesson will start off by having the children do an activity. The
43. children will be divided into groups of two. After the children are divided, the
teacher will explain that the first sense is called touch. The teacher will explain the
mystery box activity. The teacher will then pass out one mystery box for each
group. The children will then be told to put their hands into the box and try to
observe and guess what the item could be. To check to see if they are right, the
children can look on the bottom of the mystery box. The name of the item

history, the media and popular culture, producing photographs that simultaneously

prosthetics, and digital manipulation, Morimura is able to transform himself into
any protagonist which he wishes to portray. Morimuras work Looking Back is a
clear appropriation of Vemeers Girl with a Pearl Earring , the only significant
difference between the two works is that Yasumasa morimura has replaced the

45. Iodoethane Lab Report
Anas Hanini CHM 211L Professor: Bruce Bondurant 10/09/2017 Introduction The
objective of this experiment was to carry out the alkylation of sodium saccharin with
iodoethane and to analyze the product mixture to determine the structure of the major
product. In this reaction, the leaving group is the iodide ion. The nucleophile in
sodium saccharine is either the oxygen atom or the nitrogen atom. The sodium
saccharin acts as an ambient nucleophile which means it can attack from two or more
places which can result in multiple products (Lehman). In order to determine the
identity and composition of the product formed in the reaction, proton nuclear
magnetic resonance (1H NMR) spectrometry is used. Proton NMR is a powerful
instrumental method that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This melting point range is closer to N ethylsaccharin than O etyhlsaccharin. The
signals on the proton NMR correspond to the CH2 (methylene) protons in the
OCH2CH3 and NCH2CH3 groups. In O ethylsaccharin the CH2 protons are more
deshielded by the more electronegative O giving a larger chemical shift of 4.7 ppm.
The larger chemical shift of O ethyldsccharin s methyl group is derived from the
protons of the methyl group having less electron density than N ethylsaccharin s
methyl group. In N ethylsaccharin the CH2 protons are less deshielded by the less
electronegative N giving a smaller chemical shift of 3.9 ppm. Around 8 ppm H

number of 4 while the peak for O ethylsaacharine integrates to 1. The Keq value
was calculated to be 6.2x10^ 5. This means that if our reaction was in complete
equilibrium the O ethylsaacharin product would not even show up because it would
be a 1:10,000 ratio. Based on our NMR data and observed melting point, it can be
concluded that N ethylsaccharin is the major product that was formed in this

these aspects from different angles (BEREND AUTOR WIERENGA, 2000). There is
a considerable difference found among internet and culture and the interaction of both
of these aspects are not easy, as there are certain countries and environment and

3. Identify three stereotypes that foreigners typically hold about Australians. Why do
you think they might hold these stereotypes? Identify three cultural stereotypes that
you hold (about foreign cultures).
The level of thinking and perception of every individual is different from the other
and they have the guts and abilities to use their thinking and perception for the sake
of their country and entity as well. Stereotypes are a kind of error in terms of thinking
and perception in which people have a different level of thinking against an
individual or a specific community. There are number of stereotypes which foreigners
usually hold about Australians and among them some of them are, Punctual, Rude
and Egoists are some of them. The main reason behind holding and having these
stereotypes is the attitudes and cultures which have been seen in the sports in which
Australian players have rude behaviors with the other players playing in the other
eleven. In terms of foreign cultures, the three stereotypes we have are trustworthy,
loyal and dedicated (Damien McLoughlin, 2010).

A Midsummer Night s Dream supports the idea that pursuing love can take over the
person s action. In the play there were four characters in a love triangle, where the
actions that seemed irrational were presented out of them. The character who best
represents the idea that love can blind people to their actions is Helena. She seemed
very desperate for him in the play by chasing him around. Helena showed that, loveis
blind when she told a secret to Demetrius, when she chased him around and by the
way she speaks to him.
A Midsummer Night s Dream, Helena is a rich young lady who is in love with a
young man named Demetrius. She loves him more than anything and all that matters
to her is his love. Although Helena loves Demetrius, he loves someone
49. Historical Analysis Of Zoot Suit, By Luiz Valdez
Historical Analysis of Zoot Suit Zoot Suit was written by Luiz Valdez and
published in 1978. The story is based on the Sleepy Lagoon murder trials of the
1940s and follows protagonist Henry Reyna. This play deals with the intercultural
conflicts between Henry s generation and his parent s. This story also deals with
the intercultural struggles between Mexican Americans and white Americans. In
this historical analysis, I will not only be looking at what events in history
influenced this play and the author, but how this play uses those historical
influences are used to create a realistic screenshot of the 1940s Los Angeles. Los
Angles was going through huge demographics changed in the early 1940 s.
Mexican refugees were escaping the Mexican Revolution, farmers were fleeing the
Dust bowl, and American service men rushed to Los Angeles because of World War
II ( People Events ). The economy was booming from the war as American
production increased. The youth was partaking in jazz culture and began wearing
zoot suits. Because of the Sleepy Lagoon murders, the zoot suitwas associated with
Mexican violence. Eventually, tensions rose between the rebelling Mexican
American youth and Marines because the servicemen found it their responsibility to
straighten the youth up. This led to the Zoot Suit Riotsof 1943 that left hundreds
injured. As stated by the citizens committee investigating the riots; racism was the
central cause of the riots ( People Events ). The script takes place before and during
the riots and is intended portray the discrimination of the era. The author of the play,
Luiz Valdez, is a 76 year old Mexican American male that is known to be the father
of Chicanoplays. He earned a degree in theater from San Jose State University and
founded El Teatro Campesino (Albert). El Teatro would perform for migrant farm
workers. Valdez grew up working alongside his parents in the field. This led to
Valdez be an activist; his theater would perform plays to aid the farm worker strikes
by lifting the spirits of the protesters. For that, Valdez became an influential leader in
the Chicano movement. He had interesting early life experiences that gave him
inspiration for his plays. In Zoot Suit, the protagonist

After...
Abstract This research examined and listed some of the evidence demonstrating the
long run consequences of slow economic recovery after periods of recessions in the
U.S. economy on wage earners of a four person family. Economy shifts were
examined and its effect on the four member family, two adult wage earners, and two
children was analyzed. This trend and shift of and within the economy contributed to
the overall wholeness and well being of the family. As a rising economy produced
family stability and productive home environments, a declining economy produced
insecurity and a negative home environment. Whether negative or positive, the
economy attributed to various differences within the context of a stable, healthy
family structure. Keywords: economy, family, healthy, home, negative, positive,
productive, recovery shift, stability. Effects of a Slow U.S. Economic Recovery on
Wage Earners of a Four Person Family Typically, households experiences differences
in its wholesomeness and vitality as society experiences changes in our nation s
overall economy. Therefore, it is extremely important for the heads of the family to
have a plan in place at all times so that the family will experience the least amount of
overall change as the state of the economy fluctuates. The state of the U.S. economy,
undoubtedly, shapes the family infrastructure. This economic state creates either a
balance or unbalance with the family. Whenever both adults are active in the

54. Modern Art And Postmodernism
A Japanese postmodern artist Yayoi Kusama, had an art technique of drawing and
painting dots. Her art form was influenced by her psychological problems in which
she expressed herself in an artistic form of painting dots. Both literature arts and the
visual arts uses different techniques to express themselves whether it be modern or
postmodern. Postmodern art use a lot of different techniques to express themselves
and manipulate the audience in an entirely different way like how Kusama had
expressed herself in a different way than artists have previously done before.
Postmodernismstarted after WWII and used a happier and sometimes an ironic tone in
their creations. Modernismstarted in the 20th century and were sometimes difficult to
understand the pieces of art and writing. It is the departure of traditional arts and a
movement in the arts to create new styles and techniques. The new form of art often
causes conflict and sorts of negative reaction to those viewing because of its new art
form that questions many people. The new form of art are subjective and creates
different reactions that often tends to question what art really is in general. Both
modernism and postmodernism uses many of the similar authorial techniques but
uses different tones in the writings. Many of the authorial techniques they use are
imagism, fragmentation, motifs, mutations, and many other techniques to create an
effect.
Although modernism uses similar techniques as postmodernism, modernism tends

I was impacted by my friend s sexual assault so I got warnings and some ideas after

In addition to Mansel, Frederik C. Schneid writes about Napoleon s ambition in

militaristic aspect of Napoleon s government and his abilities as a general. For
instance, he elaborates: [Napoleon] pursued an imperium sine fine, an empire

his position of European hegemony condemned him to rule over a Europe in
constant strife with his regime. He makes the point that Napoleon s desire for glory
and sweeping military victories were the cause behind his goal of conquering the
continent of Europe. Similar to Mansel s argument, Schneid only considers a singular
perspective in his approach, leaving out other crucial variables that effect Napoleon s
motivation to achieve his ultimate
57. The Importance Of Artifice In Society
Although many people may like to think of America as a honest and moral nation, it
is no secret that artifice has cemented itself as an indispensable skill, exploited by
many to achieve their own ambitions. Artifice, characterized through the usage of
cunning devices or expedients to deceive others, is often utilized by politicians and
organizations to help push their own agendas. As illustrated by Chris Hedges in his
social commentary, Empire of Illusion, artifice has emerged to become so ubiquitous
and essential throughout American society, whether in business or the entertainment
industry. Essential, in the essence that without it, people in any industry are more
likely to be disadvantaged in achieving their personal goals. In today s modern
world, no area has seen more abuse of artifice than in the field of media and politics.
Its common knowledge that newspapers skew reports to their own biases and
politicians often tell half truths to cover up ulterior motives. Unfortunately, these
politicians and media giants hold extremely influential positions in society, and their
usage of artifice is extremely damaging to the integrity and accountability within the
United States. As a result, the press as well as the general populace must utilize free
speech to expose this behavior. Despite the complete immorality of the usage of
artifice, such chicanery remains essential for success in media and politics. Artifice
generated through the media plays a pivotal role in the spread
58. A Case Study of Singapore
Introduction
Singapore has long built its economy on its strategic positioning for trade. The
country is now home to the world s second largest container port according to the
World Shipping Council (2013). The country s position as a leading trade makes it a
natural place to find solutions to global supply chain issues, and has also encouraged
a significant amount of foreign direct investment in the country. Foreign companies
have set up shop in Singapore, often in either services or retail. This paper will
analyze some of the issues that foreign firms dealing in Singapore have with respect
to global supply chain management.
Case Study #1: Starbucks
Starbucks has a significant retail presence in Singapore, but it also benefits from
the country s geographic position in a couple of ways. The first is that Singapore
is situated in the heart of a fertile coffee growing region critical islands like Java,
Sumatra and New Guinea are nearby, as are high volume growing regions like
Vietnam. Starbucks has set up a regional distribution center in Singapore in order to
manage the flow of goods and services throughout Asia, both in terms of raw
materials and finished goods.
Changi Airport Group (2013) notes that Starbucks is one of many Western countries
to have such a regional distribution center. With stores throughout Southeast Asia, the
coffee company can organize its goods in Singapore for onward distribution, either
overland to Malaysia and Thailand, or over sea to Indonesia
