Special Education Law And Policies Essay
Part 2: Special Education Law and Policies For the state of Indiana as an administrator I need to
familiarize myself with the Special Education Rules Title 511 Article 7 Rules 32 49 (Indiana Dept. of
Ed, 2014). Article 7 was brought to my attention by my special education coordinator at Laurel School
Mrs. Christy Sheehan. This article will help me access the guidelines of Least Restrictive
Environment (LRE) and the Individual Education Programs (IEP) along with the instruction from
Mrs. Sheehan. This article will help me indicate what key areas I need to know as a future
administrator. As I become an administrator I know I will have to familiarize myself with the entire
134 page article, but for now I will focus in on five areas. This article and area of study is new to me
being a physical education teacher that isn t familiar with all the laws of special education. It can be
overwhelming looking into this document, but as an administrator I need to familiarize myself with all
aspects of education. When diving into the article the first area I noticed that would help me as a
future administrator was identification of homeless students and how to identify them. This issue
probably isn t discussed by many in our class. As a Title I, educator I have experienced a lot of
students who do not have the best home life. At Laurel School we have several students who do not
live with their guardian s full time and bounce from home to home. As an administrator I need know

Suicide Is A Serious Topic
People tend to have completely different points of views on suicide. What s yours? Do you think it is
wrong? Do you think it is right? Do you think it is stupid? Do you think it is no good for you or
anyone around you? Well, put your answers aside for a second because this paper is going to get deep
and pretty personal. So you might get as well get comfortable, especially if this is a topic that hits
home to you. I think that suicide is a very serious topic in the society today. In my eyes, suicide is the
way you try to come out of how you feel, the way some people release their feelings, the way people
try to feel better, but mainly its the way people try to end it all. As a student who has had very many
situations involving suicide, either with my personal life or with my friends lives, suicide is always
brought up. Some people have the idea that suicide is a joke, that it is just a way to get attention, that it
is stupid and immature to do, that it is just a big way to hurt yourself and others even more. I
completely and utterly respect anybodies opinions about any topic, unless you are not willing to look
on the other side of the story or facts. In my life, I was raised to see both sides of every story. That s
because you can t really judge a book or a person by their cover and when people just want to think
one thing and not have the respect or the tendency to learn about the other side of the story then how
can you sit there and judge a certain topic you don

Roland Barthes The Rhetoric Of The Image Analysis
In his essay The Rhetoric of The Image, Roland Barthes explores the relationship between image and
meaning. He centres his discussion around the advertisement as advertising is a medium in which
there is an intended message being sent to the viewer. Barthes puts forward that if an image contains
signs, in advertising the signs are full , as these signs are formed with the viewer in mind so that the
intended message is not missed.
Barthes states that there are three messages that comprise a reading of an image:
The Linguistic message
The Iconic (symbolic/ connotated) message
The Denotated message (comprised of the physical objects within the image)
The linguistic message is that which is provided by text and, according to Barthes, is ... Show more

It creates an illogical connection between here now and the there then . As the photograph is a means
of recording a moment, it always contains stupefying evidence of this is how it was . In this way, the
denoted image can naturalise the connoted image as photographs retain a kind of natural being there
of objects ; that is, the quality of having recorded a moment in time. Barthes stresses that as
technology continues to develop the diffusion of information (and notably of images), the more it
provides the means of masking the constructed meaning under the appearance of the given meaning
(P159 60).
Connotation or the iconic message is not as easily explained as either the denotive or linguistic
messages. Significantly Barthes has left the discussion of this message to the very end of his essay.
The signs that constitute connotation are discontinuous. There is no definite way in which to interpret
the separate, connotative message and in the composition of the three (denotative, connotative and
linguistic) signs an aesthetic signified is carried. In much the same way as in text; when intonation is
applied, it is a separate signifier than that of the text itself in a linguistic

The Year Education Act Defines A Child As Having Special...
The 1996 Education Act defines a child as having special educational needs (SEN) when they have a
learning difficulty which calls for special educational provision to be made for them (section 312).
This involves those who have greater difficulty learning and/or disabilities that prevent them from
accessing educational facilities. This represents approximately 15.4% of pupils in schools in England
(Department of Education, 2015). A key question that surrounds this area is whether it is better for
these children to be included in mainstream schooling or whether they should be excluded (Warnock
Norwich, 2010). However this is not a straightforward issue, there are wider needs, like social class,
that the classification of SEN often ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each field has its own doxa individual rules and conventions that one can then adopt (often
unknowingly). According to the doxa, each person can be ascribed their legitimate position within the
field (Bourdieu Eagleton, 1992). This can contribute to the habitus . At its simplest, habitus is who we
are our internalised dispositions and practices which we act according to (Thomas Loxley, 2007). The
habitus expresses itself in all situations of life, from bodily movements to conscious thoughts (Webb,
Schirato, Danaher, 2002). These three concepts are mutually constituted and are what subsequently
brings about inequalities. According to Bourdieu (1977), school s act as a social selector, they favour
particular cultural capitals. He called this reproduction where a child s habitus fits with the doxa of a
school, they have an advantage and are able to engage with school easier (Bourdieu Passeron, 1977),
whilst excluding others, like SEN pupils.
According to Bernstein (1973), social inequalities are transmitted through schools. He noted a clear
communication difference between working and middle class children, which is then echoed in
schools. Schools (often implicitly) adopt an educational code which effects everything from teacher
student interactions to the teacher s control over learning. Bernstein (1971) distinguished between two
types of code used

The Language Of English As A English Language
1. Introduction The language used around the world is evolving. Currently, English language is
spreading globally and it has received a world recognition. According to Schneider (2007), English is
the world s lingua franca as it is being used internationally and exclusively as the language of politics,
trade and the internet. In some countries such as Nigeria and Singapore, English has become a local
language in which it is used in their daily communication (Schneider, 2007). Thus, this shows that
English has expanded and can develop into homegrown forms. In Brunei, there are several languages
being used. However, the most common languages are Standard Malay, Brunei Malay and English.
Standard Malay is the official language whereas Brunei ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hence, this paper attempt to examine and describe the phonological features of my pronunciation
using rather similar methodology and phonological analysis to that used in the study of phonological
features by Deterding and Salbrina (2013) as well as Deterding (2015).
2. Data and Methodology
2.1 Materials
The speech analysis uses the Wolf passage recommended by Deterding (2006) and Pratt application
(Boersma Weenink, 2010). The Wolf passage is used to describe English pronunciation as it provides
wide range of English sounds (Deterding, 2006). Meanwhile, the Pratt application is used to listen to
the sound files, view the spectrograms and to measure vowel formants.
2.2 Task The speaker (my self) is expected to read the Wolf passage and do five minute interview with
the tutor.
2.3 Procedure
In a quiet room in Universiti Brunei Darussalam, the speaker was recorded using a voice recorder
performing the task. Prior to recording, I was given few minutes to read the passage. Then, I was
asked to analyze my own recording based on my auditory judgements and acoustic measurements.
The auditory analysis is categorised into 5 features (See table 1) and the acoustic analysis is classified
into 2 features (See table 2). The auditory analysis is carried out by listening to the sounds and the
result is based on my final auditory judgement and visual examination of the

A Middle Ground Between The Extremes Of Relying Too...
The need to find a middle ground between the extremes of relying too heavily on interpreters/texts and
the timely and consuming task of completely immersing oneself into the culture, abandoning the
anthropological eye is clear in Boas text. Although a command of the language is indispensable in the
obtainment of in depth information, Boas admits that the aim, although ideal is, entirely beyond our
reach.
Whorf acknowledges the difficulty of stepping away from his native language in order to scrutinize a
foreign tongue objectively, but insists it is essential to do so. Even if the language is learned, it can be
difficult to mentally remove oneself from his/her language s wirings , in other words, not in terms of
one s own language. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This thinking is innate to our hard wired neural networks and almost impossible to eliminate. Other
groups of people, however, have not been raised in a culture that makes this line of thinking natural
and understandably, we can see how ten days would not be conceivable in other societies.
Whorf and Boas each spend a considerable amount of time studying North American indigenous
cultures., Their on the field engagement to language mastery ratio, however, varied. Although Whorf
spent over two years mastering Hop language and carefully trying to extract meaning from the
dissimilarities between Hopi and SAE, he never went out into the field to speak to an actual Hopi
member. Boas, in his work with the Kwakiutl is a more involved ethnographer, who recognized the
value of first hand information, he believes any grasp of the language is valuable and can yield critical
information about the culture when combined with other methods of collection. The morality of his
methods are questionable, however. He states, Fortunately the Indian is easily misled, by the ability of
the observer to read his language, into thinking that he is also able to understand what he reads. In this
way, Boas is able to inspire the natives eagerness to be put on record. Boas cannot be deemed
disrespectful and condescending and further reading of his texts will prove the

What Did God Have To Say About The Strange Object In The...
Back in the Throne Room, the councillors wanted an answer. The prisoners looked at Karjon for a
response. Before we answer, we request an answer of our own. What did God have to say about the
strange object in the sky that almost crashed into God s World? The councillors looked at one another
as if it was sacrilege to talk about it. Sargon could see that he was the one to provide some
explanation. He did consider the position they were in and was sorely tempted to just not give an
answer without any further comment. But his desire to debate these religious issues got the better of
him. That object, whatever it was, God successfully veered it away from his World. He was able to
keep himself safe as well as all of us here. His mercy knows ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The one who openly rejected God! The one who turned his back on his religion. Well that explains
everything! A councillor replied. Volgon was now quite angry and upset. You ignorant fools. Fursha
had nothing to do with that object. It came from beyond God s World. We were with Fursha when it
first appeared from outside God s World. We can even point to the part of the sky it came from. No,
Fursha is totally innocent. Another God sent it! This had the reaction of all the council members
standing up. Never had they heard such blasphemy. Members had been killed for less. Consequently
this gave Sargon an idea. He grabbed a spear off the nearest Enforcer. You have blasphemed against
our Lord and Protector. Our laws are very clear! There is no other way forward. Sargon announced
and without any warning he plunged the spear into Volgon. The others gasped in response and grabbed
Volgon as he fell to the ground. They looked back up at Sargon who had casually retaken his seat. He
showed no remorse at all. Werten, in particular, was angry to the point of madness. He leapt up in a
futile effort to attack Sargon. But several Enforcers grabbed him before he could get anywhere near.
Why did you do that? Karjon eventually said. We were just debating a point. He did not deserve to
die! What kind of God would condone such an action? Sargon rose again. It is clear to me that your
debate as you call it, is really just an excuse to prolong your lives. You

In addition, since it is not told from a single person, there is no bias and it enables the narrator to
describe each character in a distinct and unique way. The purpose of utilizing third person omniscient
is to help the audience develop a deeper understanding of the characters and how they function and act
in the Igbo society.
9. Social/Political/Philosophical Agendas or Issues Being Dealt with by the Author(Themes)
One of the biggest agendas of Achebe in writing this novel is to present the point of view of the tribal
Africans. The presence of the Christian missionaries prove this point and Achebe recognized this
problem and how it essentially wiped out the true culture and tradition of the Igbo. He wanted to
display the real problems and lives of the Igbo society without any outside influence. Another
important theme that is conveyed is that being too strict or ambitious with our children cautions us to
behave with prudence as opposed to emotion. Throughout the book, Okonkwo lives by emotion and
his only goal is to come off as a strong fighter. His strict attitude towards Nwoye only causes him to
act against Okonkwo s choice and join the Christian missionaries. Achebe shows that we should be
flexible and raise our kids with judgement and leniency, because if we rule by emotion, it can lead to
our downfall. (As seen in both Okonkwo and

The Impact Of Technology And Social Media On Youth
The Impacts of Technology and Social Media on the Youth Technology and Social Media have a huge
impact on the youth today. From cyber bullying, to not knowing how to communicate with people, to
self image, and to something as simple as not knowing how to read a map, are just some of the many
negative ways that social media and technology have impacted the youth. People have forgotten the
meaning and value of family, kids don t go outside and play anymore, and our faces are constantly
buried in our phones. Today s society needs to see that technology is affecting us in such negative
ways: emotionally, in our relationships, in education, in health and bullying. I have found that many
people today do not realize just how much technology affects a person. (Marlena Ramierz)
At such a young age, kids are given iPads, phones, and computers. You can go anywhere in public and
see several young kids with technology in their hands. It s a way for parents to keep their kids quite,
but at the same time, it s corrupting the youth at such a young age. It s giving kids a gateway to so
many opportunities at such a young age. While yes it is a way to keep your children quiet, what
happened to a coloring book and some crayons? What happened to kids playing outside, riding bikes,
running around? Have a pure imagination to keep busy with friends while now kids just sit inside on
video games and don t socialize with friends unless it s through texting or

Moore state, The launch of the Low Earth orbit satellite, Sputnik 1, by the USSR (Soviet Union) on

Metacognition and Transfer of Learning
Suppose that a student learns a mathematical procedure such as how to find the area of a
parallelogram. Later, when the student is given a parallelogram problem like the one he or she has
studied, he or she is able to find its area correctly. In short, the student shows that she can perform
well on a retention test. However, when this student is asked to find the area of an unusually shaped
parallelogram, he or she looks confused and answers We haven t had this yet . In short, the student
shows that she cannot perform well on a transfer test, which is applying what she has learned to a new
situation (Mayer, 2001) Unfortunately, mastering a component skill is not enough to support non
routine problem solving. Students need to know not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In contrast, backward reaching transfer occurs when one is faced with a problem and looks back on
what he or she has learned in other situations to help in this new situation.
Factors that contribute to transfer of learning
Initial Learning
Without an adequate level of initial learning, transfer cannot be expected (Mestre, 2002). The
importance of initial learning was illustrated by a series of studies designed to access the effects of
learning to program in the computer language LOGO. When initial learning was accessed, it was
found that students often had not learned enough about LOGO to provide a basis for transfer
(Bransford, Brown, and Cocking, 1999). Many studies that have failed to produce transfer have
resulted from insufficient opportunities for students to learn efficiently in the first place (Mestre,
2002). Understanding
Transfer is also affected by the degree to which people learn with understanding rather than merely
memorizing. Judd s classic studies of learning to throw darts at underwater targets would be a perfect
exampled of how understanding is positively correlated with transfer. In sum, Judd s studies
demonstrated the value of learning with understanding rather than simply mimicking a set of fixed
procedures (Bransford

Introduction The exposed roadcut east of the Doc Long Picnic area, about 9 miles north of the town of
Cedar Crest on the east side of the Sandia Mountains, provided an exceptional site to study weathering
processes. The exposed Precambrian Sandia Granite offered a place to collect data and test the
hypothesis that biotite content, grainsize, and associated inclusions have influenced the amount of
weathering that has occurred. The granite underlies the Great Unconformity and the Madera
Formation, which is a carbonate succession with interbedded sandstones, Pennsylvanian in age. The
granitic outcrop composed of the dominant minerals quartz, potassium feldspar (some plagioclase),
and biotite (field book) displayed different degrees of weathering. Different weathering features in the
exposure such as grussification, jointing, and corestones suggested that grain size and biotite content
were not the only influences on weathering processes taking place.
Methods
Data collection for assessing our hypothesis consisted of making several observations along the
exposed granite. The main observations noted included mineral composition, weathering rank, mean

Symptoms And Symptoms Of Stroke
UCLA Lecture
Professor Reza Jahan starts the lecture talking about the importance of recognize signs and symptoms
of stroke, call immediately for help and go to an emergency room.
Professor Reza brings up the definition of stroke and the signs of stroke: impairment of brain
functions, decreasing sensations and movement.
Depending on the affected area, the symptoms will be different. If stroke affects the motor area, then
the motion function is sudden lost. If sensation area is affected, then, the symptoms will be loss of
sensitivity. If the area is that of speech, that people will have difficult to talk.
Jahan explains that a stroke occurs when a blood vessel is blocked by a clot or bursts, decreasing or
interrupting the blood supply with the oxygen and nutrients to the brain.
Two kinds of stroke
hemorrhagic stroke → bleeding into the brain manifest symptoms of the damaged area affected by
bleeding. Occurs mainly in high blood pressure or uncontroled hypertension, because hypertension
damage small vessels in the brain.
ischemic stroke → blood flow stops brain begins to starve for oxigen and nutrients and stops of
working, then the part of the brain that stop manifest symptoms, as loss of sensation or motion
function.
The treatment must be done quickly before the patient manifest symptoms.

Race, Ethnicity, And Gender
Race, ethnicity, and gender has been a significant topic discussed throughout many years. However, it
can has its negative cognectation because people feel superior to other people due to their race,
ethnicity, social class and gender. There are many philosophical theories that relate to these discussion
such as white gaze, one drop rule, and five faces of oppression. Moreover, these theories also applies
to my ethnicity which is Dominican. Even though race is not a real concept, due to the fact that is a
men made belief to categorize people based on their skin color, culture, and religion, it isolates people
into experiencing new things. Thorough history, we have seen how blacks have been treated due to
their skin color. Thus, when it sex, and gender, women are treated differently due to the idea that
women have to be protected and depend on a men to provide, shelter, and provide money. Takes away
the independence of a women, and not until recently, women are gaining their power and wellness. In
my opinion I believe white gaze is a common practice in America and it affects many people who are
not part of the white race . White race is looking at the world thought the eyes of white person. One
way this affects a nonwhite person is that they face racism, or stereotypes. I chose this idea because I
experienced white gaze here at Canisius College. Once, I was looking for a professor, However she
was not there but I left a message with another professor who was Caucasian.

A Report On Foodborne Disease
According to foodborne disease Annual reports in New Zealand of 2014, about 524 cases (49.9%) of
foodborne disease were recorded in commercial food operator settings like restaurants, takeaways,
mobile stalls, supermarkets and other food outlet (Annual report concerning foodborne disease in New
Zealand, 2014). This shows that there were high number of outbreaks reported in New Zealand related
to food bacteria s and micro organisms. As there were many foodborne outbreaks noted in New
Zealand, government has set some strict food safety laws and regulations in the country. According to
the report from New Zealand food safety authority; people who manufacture, handle, prepare or sell
food from any mobile food stall are subject to food safety laws and regulations. It is illegal to sell food
which is not safe which can cause illness to the customer. Food stalls and mobile food truck should
have food and safety licence to operate so that the local health department can track the truck for
inspection and the grades provided to the truck helps to increase the sale of the product and assured
customers to eat safe and healthy meal on board. Employees should maintain good personal hygiene
(use gloves while handling the food, use hair caps to avoid contamination, work tops and sinks must
be kept clean) (New Zealand food safety authority, 2016). This shows that the New Zealand
government works hard to control the foodborne outbreaks reported in the country by starting new

I talked about how I wasn t really sure what I wanted to do as my career. I thought of either child care

situation. You need to be able to connect with kids and show them you care. This is a very social job
too. Working conditions for this job could be outside, inside, at home, at a day care, or in a school.
The job requirements for a veterinarian is you need the skills. You need to have passion for animals,
you need business skills, and social skills. The working conditions for this job can be in a clinic and/or
outside. This job can be a traveling job, such as farms or other homes.
The salary for child care can range from $45,000 to 116,000. The salary range for a veterinarian is
from $49,000 to $113,000. These are really good paying jobs that could really provide enough for me.
The benefits for child care are you get to interact with kids and connect to them on another level. The
benefits for veterinarian are interacting with animals and to help their needs and stay alive.
These are to good supporting jobs. There are more and more clinics for vets and children. I feel I will
probably end up working for someone close and then try to start my own business in Florida. Both of

Fencing Teamwork
It can be concluded that the wool fabric is the best material for a fencing jacket because it depressed
the least. The tip of the weapon only depressed 2mm, while the next best material depressed 5mm.
The worst material was the denim, which depressed 8mm. This happened because of how different
materials are made. Wool, the material that performed the best overall, is made up of 2 strings, one is
wound in parallel lines, while the other wind through the parallel strings. This creates a stronger

In fencing, the fencer is getting hit repeatedly with a metal rod. Therefore, a strong material is
necessary so that the fencer does not get injured. So, by determining that wool is the most effective
material at distributing force, it is apparent that wool would be the most protective material for a
fencer. Also, because denim performed the worst in the experiments, it also means that it would be the
material to avoid if a company wants to make fencing jackets. This information could be used in the
future because if a new material is required to make fencing jackets, then the producers will know that
wool is the best material to use. Also, if the safety requirements change, or a fencer needs custom
made equipment, then they will know that wool is an effective material to use. Another experiment
that could be done in the future, would be a test to see how breathable each material is, so that
producers know which material will make you sweat the most and which will make you sweat the
least. This could be done by sealing the material, and then testing the airflow through the material.
Whichever material had the most air go through it, would then be deemed the best material for

Charlemagne was very ambiguous king and was very influential to his kingdom and church, he also
was a kind and loving father that was very serious about his empire and the Carolingian empire.

Analysis Of The Movie White Liar By Miranda Lambert
Picking Up the Pieces Picking Up the Pieces is the film being produced to document my life. I have
never put much thought into how my life would be portrayed or even documented. However, as I sit
here thinking about what music I would use for the soundtrack, I start thinking about all of the things
that I have been through in my life. All of those hurdles that I had to climb over and the songs that
have so much meaning start to flow through my mind. There are many songs to choose from, but I
narrow them down to the top four that I feel set the mood of how I have picked up the pieces of my
life from a tragic divorce and moved on to now being a thriving non traditional college student
seeking to become a Hospitality Manager. The first song that I have chosen is White Liar by Miranda
Lambert because this song represents what I went through during my very tragic divorce. Lambert is
an American country music artist who co wrote this song with Natalie Hemby. The song was released
in August of 2009. The reason I chose this song is because the words remind me of what I went
through when I found out that my husband of six years had been cheating on me and how I felt.
Lambert sings, Hey white liar, the truth comes out a little at a time and it spreads just like a fire. My
husband had been cheating on me and the entire time, I sensed something was wrong, but he
continued to tell me that I was wrong. According to him, they were just friends. In reality, I too was
also a white liar

SS12 Handbag Buy S.W.O.T Analysis Strengths One of Net a porters biggest strengths is that,
because there is no physical limit to the amount of designers stocked, a very wide range can be offered
in comparison to a department store. This in turn means that there can be a large variety of choice at
different price points, catering for both the bridge and high fashion customers. The Net a Porter

entry price DVF bags at £265 to the seasons must have bags at £2000 upwards, customers from all

As China is the fastest growing luxury fashion customer base, it in imperative that they are catered for
in the Net a Porter handbag buy. Lack of exclusivity in the handbag offering. While exclusivity is
strong across Net a porter as a whole, the handbag edit does not have many exclusive styles. Almost
all everything can be found on the Harvey Nichols, Selfridges, Harrods or My Wardrobe websites. In
particular the Selfridges website has over 45 exclusive handbag styles online, from a variety of brands
which include Mulberry, Alexander Wang and Anya Hindmarch. To combat this Net a porter should
negotiate world exclusivity on a number of it bags for next season, either by having early delivery to
ensure a week or two of exclusivity or by commissioning an exclusive colour option in the most
popular styles. At present Net a porter has no representation for Celine handbags, which has become
the most covetable handbag brand across the high fashion world and accounts for a considerable
percentage of handbag sales in London department stores. As they grow from strength to strength it
would be advisable for Net a porter to try and include Celine in their edit. Opportunities As Net a
Porter only operates online, it has not been possible to buy some brands such as Louis Vuitton, Chanel
or Celine. Luxury brands like these have been wary of the digital realm due to fears that it might dilute
its exclusivity, but many are now moving more and more into digital and

A hero is a man who, in the opinion of others, is greatly admired for his brave deeds and fine qualities.
In Schindler s List directed by Steven Spielberg, Oskar Schindler is regarded as a great hero amongst
many Jews regardless of the fact that he is a German Nazi, because he saves the generations and lives
of 1,200 Jews during the Holocaust. The Holocaust was the systematic mass murder of about 6 million

His lifelong dream in becoming a wealthy man is what gets him to become self motivated at his own
business in the factory. We also see Schindler motivating Goeth when he and Goeth have a drunken
talk of power on the balcony of Goeth s villa. While Goeth s idea of being powerful is having the
authority to kill others and rule over people, Schindler explains to Goeth the truth to being really
powerful by noting that, Power is when we have every justification to kill and we don t. Schindler
further convinces Goeth and tempts him into the curiosity of feeling that kind of power when he tells a
similar story of an emperor who chose to grant mercy upon a worthless man that could ve been dead.
Schindler s self motivation in being that sort of a powerful person even motivates Goeth, the cruel,
sadistic man, in pardoning and giving mercy upon others for even a little while. The inspiring picture
of the powerful emperor that Schindler painted in Goeth s mind helped change his decisions to kill the
next two people he had a problem with and his merciful decision helped saved their lives. Through
these couple scenes, we evidently see how influential Schindler s persuasion and motivation is not
only on himself, but also with some of the most stringent people, such as Amon Goeth. Schindler s
self motivation is most powerfully shown when he changes his goal from making lots of money to

Summary Of American Jewry
The American Civil War was, with the exception of the presence of Loyalists during the American
Revolution, the only time in American history that neighbor turned against neighbor in both
widespread physical violence and enmity of the heart. This was true of the entire nation, but even
more so of American Jewry. American Jewry was a very small percentage of the American population
at the start of the war in 1861. During the conflict it was forced to confront its own differences during
the Civil War; the politics, policies and emotions of the war acting as a great revealer which exposed
the fractured unity of the tiny ethno religious group in America. While the war exposed this fracturing,
it simultaneously exposed the commonalities that American ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In his chapter The Rabbis and the Slavery Question , Bertram Wallace Korn notes how Judaism s
religious ideals and principles were interpreted in widely disparate ways when a crucial issue faced the
entire nation ; in the case of the Civil War that is interpreted according to geographic sentiments and
the ideologies that went along with them(slavery). With the exception of New York City, whose
general sentiments regarding slavery went along with the anti abolitionist sermons of Dr. Morris J.
Raphall and articles of Mordecai M. Noah, Northern Jewry tended to be abolitionist while Southern
followed their Christian neighbor s in extolling the virtues of slavery. The reason for this kind of
outlook is not surprising in the least, as any minority people will invariably take up the majority
culture as a means of survival. However, Jews were [possibly] more prone to this throughout their stay
in the early United States, as Rabbinic Judaism has always championed that the law of the land is the
law when living in the diaspora; a teaching which would ultimately justify the beliefs and actions of
both sides to themselves. In Shifting Veils , Diane Ashton posits that especially in the nineteenth
century Jews throughout the United States borrowed and adopted the attitudes common to the regions
in which they lived . For years prior to the Civil War no Jew wanted to appear disloyal to their
majority Christian neighbors (many of whom regarded them with suspicion) or to their country, and as
such did everything they could to adopt the culture and beliefs of their region [either out of sincere
belief or desire to blend in ]. A state of war only heightened the differences within American Jewry
that had been present all along, and pushed them forth into the wider

Fishing on Eagle Lake Essay
The mid May morning that Blaine, Roger and I set out on our annual fishing trip to Eagle Lake in the
Allagash Waterway was bright and clear. The Ice on the lake had just gone out and it brought the
promise of early season Brook Trout fishing. Eagle Lake, remote and unspoiled, is reached only by
boat via the portage station at Indian Stream, and the lone building on the shores of the lake is the
Ranger s cabin. When we drove into the parking lot at the portage station, I noticed the game warden
examining a fiery red pickup. We got out and stretched, and then Roger said to the warden, Hey, how s
the fishing? He spun around as if startled and said, I d tell you if I knew, but I don t know anything.

Soper Brook is a thing of true beauty. On both banks of the stream, the trees hang down as if they are
protecting something. As we were paddling back, I happened to look into the woods and saw a
shadowy figure peering at us; it was a dark figure observing our every move. I yelled to Blaine and
Roger to look, but as soon as they gandered over the shadowy figure had disappeared within the
densely wooded area. I must have been imagining things, I thought to myself. On our way back to the
campsite, we noticed something amiss. Adjacent to our campsite, a massive fire was roaring. The thick
gray smoke from the fire was billowing into the sky, hovering over a good portion of the lower lake.
The smoke danced as the wind pushed it around. Ranger s going to have a heart attack when he sees
that, Blaine sneered. We needed fresh water and there was a spring at the mouth of Soper Brook.
While Roger and I watched the smoke billow into the sky, Blaine went and got a jug of fresh water
from the spring. When Blaine returned to our canoe, he looked confused. There s a bunch of blue tarps

The Importance Of Learning A New Language
Importance of Learning a New Language
All over the world there is around 6,500 languages. Even so in America approximately 20% of
Americans speak another language other than English. This number is relatively low. Learning a new
language is and can be very beneficial. By learning a new language you can meet more people, have
more job opportunities, and introduce yourself to new cultures. Therefore, every person should make
it a life goal to learn another language excluding their native language.
First of all, Learning a new language gives you many more career and college choices. Considering
the fact that not a lot of Americans speak any other languages then Spanish it is rare and a rare skill to
have. Speaking another language looks great on job and college applications. Taking a language SAT
during high school makes your college application stand out, which will increase your chances of
getting into a good college.Alao for college admissions there is a number of scholarships for bilingual
students. This is a great reason to learn a new language because college can get very expensive but is a
thing that is almost necessary. Also the amount of jobs that can use bilingual employees is getting
higher and higher. For example when children move from foreign countries, they are placed in schools
where they can t speak the language, therefore they aren t able to understand teachers or other students
to make new friends. So, to help out the kids they get a special

It has been said in the recent past that Walmart says they treat their employees well but there have
been cases recently where this was found not to be true unfortunately.
Treating employees unfairly could have a negative economic impact on the community because if
workers aren t treated fairly then no one wants to work for the company that s not treating their
employees well. Which then has a domino effect because chances are, if that s the case, then people
will begin to bash Walmart driving consumers away to possibly purchase from other retailers. This
would not be a positive economic environment at all and the chances of the business failing would be
pretty good.
To best maintain a thriving legal, social and economical environment Walmart needs to have in place a
good management structure and for the most part I think they do. If they didn t they would not have
risen to be one of the largest retailers in the world over the past almost 50 years. They have a company

goal setting amongst employees, organizing how operations flow on a day to day basis, directing its

THE NETHODS BASED ON BACKGROUND MODELING
Introduction
Background modeling method is a method that we can use it to extract the objects in the foreground
and the target area for the aim of feature extraction. After that we can use the classifier to classify and
then we can judge whether this image include the pedestrian.
Though there are many advantages about background modeling, there still exists many disadvantages
in background modeling method. At first, it must suit the change of environment. Many factors can
result in the change of environment, such that illumination. If the illumination changes, the color of
the images will change. For example, in the condition of sufficient light, the color of the grass will
change from dark green to light green. This change will make the background modeling fails.
The second disadvantage of background modeling is that if the camera shakes, this will make the
image shake. For example, if you hold your camera and take a picture, it is easy to get a blurred
image, which is difficult to extract the features. Based on this reason, it is a kind of disadvantage of

The Rise Of Music In The Late 70 s And 80s
People in the late 70 s and 80 s have both happy and frustrating memories about the cassette tape. This
era of adolescents spent hours creating mix tapes to have their favorite songs on one tape instead of
having constantly switch out tapes for different songs. This made the sharing of music more personal,
important, and meaningful because one would want the perfect tape. However, once the compact disc
commonly known as the CD released in the early 1980 s (Downes 1) people were not aware of how it
will affect this culture of mix tapes and love for music. As the 80 s ended, also did the era of the

worldwide sales, and officially ended in 1990, where sales reached one billion sales (Downes 1). This

In Ancient Egypt, stelas are either stone or wooden slabs used as a means of presenting a monument,

pilgrimages and the site for annual festivities. Looking specifically at the stelas at Abydos we see that
they are smaller in size and lack the artistic preciseness we see in later funerary complexes. The stelas
at Abydos were set up in pairs though and do not feature the rounded top that we identify with the first
and second dynasties. These stelas depict the tomb owner and are inscribed with their title and name.
Looking at the funerary stela located in the Metropolitan Museum of art dated between the first and
fourth century is composed of limestone and found at Abydos. Anubis is depicted as she presents the
deceased to the enthroned Osiris (MET). Also depicted is the mourning goddesses Isis and Nephthys,
both very crudely executed and are merely silhouetted forms with oversized heads. This exaggeration
of form is suggested to represent the impact of the subject

  • 2. Special Education Law And Policies Essay Part 2: Special Education Law and Policies For the state of Indiana as an administrator I need to familiarize myself with the Special Education Rules Title 511 Article 7 Rules 32 49 (Indiana Dept. of Ed, 2014). Article 7 was brought to my attention by my special education coordinator at Laurel School Mrs. Christy Sheehan. This article will help me access the guidelines of Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) and the Individual Education Programs (IEP) along with the instruction from Mrs. Sheehan. This article will help me indicate what key areas I need to know as a future administrator. As I become an administrator I know I will have to familiarize myself with the entire 134 page article, but for now I will focus in on five areas. This article and area of study is new to me being a physical education teacher that isn t familiar with all the laws of special education. It can be overwhelming looking into this document, but as an administrator I need to familiarize myself with all aspects of education. When diving into the article the first area I noticed that would help me as a future administrator was identification of homeless students and how to identify them. This issue probably isn t discussed by many in our class. As a Title I, educator I have experienced a lot of students who do not have the best home life. At Laurel School we have several students who do not live with their guardian s full time and bounce from home to home. As an administrator I need know ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Suicide Is A Serious Topic People tend to have completely different points of views on suicide. What s yours? Do you think it is wrong? Do you think it is right? Do you think it is stupid? Do you think it is no good for you or anyone around you? Well, put your answers aside for a second because this paper is going to get deep and pretty personal. So you might get as well get comfortable, especially if this is a topic that hits home to you. I think that suicide is a very serious topic in the society today. In my eyes, suicide is the way you try to come out of how you feel, the way some people release their feelings, the way people try to feel better, but mainly its the way people try to end it all. As a student who has had very many situations involving suicide, either with my personal life or with my friends lives, suicide is always brought up. Some people have the idea that suicide is a joke, that it is just a way to get attention, that it is stupid and immature to do, that it is just a big way to hurt yourself and others even more. I completely and utterly respect anybodies opinions about any topic, unless you are not willing to look on the other side of the story or facts. In my life, I was raised to see both sides of every story. That s because you can t really judge a book or a person by their cover and when people just want to think one thing and not have the respect or the tendency to learn about the other side of the story then how can you sit there and judge a certain topic you don ... • 4. Roland Barthes The Rhetoric Of The Image Analysis In his essay The Rhetoric of The Image, Roland Barthes explores the relationship between image and meaning. He centres his discussion around the advertisement as advertising is a medium in which there is an intended message being sent to the viewer. Barthes puts forward that if an image contains signs, in advertising the signs are full , as these signs are formed with the viewer in mind so that the intended message is not missed. Barthes states that there are three messages that comprise a reading of an image: The Linguistic message The Iconic (symbolic/ connotated) message The Denotated message (comprised of the physical objects within the image) The linguistic message is that which is provided by text and, according to Barthes, is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It creates an illogical connection between here now and the there then . As the photograph is a means of recording a moment, it always contains stupefying evidence of this is how it was . In this way, the denoted image can naturalise the connoted image as photographs retain a kind of natural being there of objects ; that is, the quality of having recorded a moment in time. Barthes stresses that as technology continues to develop the diffusion of information (and notably of images), the more it provides the means of masking the constructed meaning under the appearance of the given meaning (P159 60). Connotation or the iconic message is not as easily explained as either the denotive or linguistic messages. Significantly Barthes has left the discussion of this message to the very end of his essay. The signs that constitute connotation are discontinuous. There is no definite way in which to interpret the separate, connotative message and in the composition of the three (denotative, connotative and linguistic) signs an aesthetic signified is carried. In much the same way as in text; when intonation is applied, it is a separate signifier than that of the text itself in a linguistic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Year Education Act Defines A Child As Having Special... The 1996 Education Act defines a child as having special educational needs (SEN) when they have a learning difficulty which calls for special educational provision to be made for them (section 312). This involves those who have greater difficulty learning and/or disabilities that prevent them from accessing educational facilities. This represents approximately 15.4% of pupils in schools in England (Department of Education, 2015). A key question that surrounds this area is whether it is better for these children to be included in mainstream schooling or whether they should be excluded (Warnock Norwich, 2010). However this is not a straightforward issue, there are wider needs, like social class, that the classification of SEN often ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Each field has its own doxa individual rules and conventions that one can then adopt (often unknowingly). According to the doxa, each person can be ascribed their legitimate position within the field (Bourdieu Eagleton, 1992). This can contribute to the habitus . At its simplest, habitus is who we are our internalised dispositions and practices which we act according to (Thomas Loxley, 2007). The habitus expresses itself in all situations of life, from bodily movements to conscious thoughts (Webb, Schirato, Danaher, 2002). These three concepts are mutually constituted and are what subsequently brings about inequalities. According to Bourdieu (1977), school s act as a social selector, they favour particular cultural capitals. He called this reproduction where a child s habitus fits with the doxa of a school, they have an advantage and are able to engage with school easier (Bourdieu Passeron, 1977), whilst excluding others, like SEN pupils. According to Bernstein (1973), social inequalities are transmitted through schools. He noted a clear communication difference between working and middle class children, which is then echoed in schools. Schools (often implicitly) adopt an educational code which effects everything from teacher student interactions to the teacher s control over learning. • 6. The Language Of English As A English Language 1. Introduction The language used around the world is evolving. Currently, English language is spreading globally and it has received a world recognition. According to Schneider (2007), English is the world s lingua franca as it is being used internationally and exclusively as the language of politics, trade and the internet. In some countries such as Nigeria and Singapore, English has become a local language in which it is used in their daily communication (Schneider, 2007). Thus, this shows that English has expanded and can develop into homegrown forms. In Brunei, there are several languages being used. However, the most common languages are Standard Malay, Brunei Malay and English. Standard Malay is the official language whereas Brunei ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Data and Methodology 2.1 Materials The speech analysis uses the Wolf passage recommended by Deterding (2006) and Pratt application (Boersma Weenink, 2010). The Wolf passage is used to describe English pronunciation as it provides wide range of English sounds (Deterding, 2006). Meanwhile, the Pratt application is used to listen to the sound files, view the spectrograms and to measure vowel formants. 2.2 Task The speaker (my self) is expected to read the Wolf passage and do five minute interview with the tutor. 2.3 Procedure In a quiet room in Universiti Brunei Darussalam, the speaker was recorded using a voice recorder performing the task. Prior to recording, I was given few minutes to read the passage. Then, I was asked to analyze my own recording based on my auditory judgements and acoustic measurements. The auditory analysis is categorised into 5 features (See table 1) and the acoustic analysis is classified into 2 features (See table 2). • 7. A Middle Ground Between The Extremes Of Relying Too... The need to find a middle ground between the extremes of relying too heavily on interpreters/texts and the timely and consuming task of completely immersing oneself into the culture, abandoning the anthropological eye is clear in Boas text. Although a command of the language is indispensable in the obtainment of in depth information, Boas admits that the aim, although ideal is, entirely beyond our reach. Whorf acknowledges the difficulty of stepping away from his native language in order to scrutinize a foreign tongue objectively, but insists it is essential to do so. Even if the language is learned, it can be difficult to mentally remove oneself from his/her language s wirings , in other words, not in terms of one s own language. ... Other groups of people, however, have not been raised in a culture that makes this line of thinking natural and understandably, we can see how ten days would not be conceivable in other societies. Whorf and Boas each spend a considerable amount of time studying North American indigenous cultures., Their on the field engagement to language mastery ratio, however, varied. Although Whorf spent over two years mastering Hop language and carefully trying to extract meaning from the dissimilarities between Hopi and SAE, he never went out into the field to speak to an actual Hopi member. Boas, in his work with the Kwakiutl is a more involved ethnographer, who recognized the value of first hand information, he believes any grasp of the language is valuable and can yield critical information about the culture when combined with other methods of collection. The morality of his methods are questionable, however. He states, Fortunately the Indian is easily misled, by the ability of the observer to read his language, into thinking that he is also able to understand what he reads. In this way, Boas is able to inspire the natives eagerness to be put on record. Boas cannot be deemed disrespectful and condescending and further reading of his texts will prove the ... Before we answer, we request an answer of our own. What did God have to say about the strange object in the sky that almost crashed into God s World? The councillors looked at one another as if it was sacrilege to talk about it. Sargon could see that he was the one to provide some explanation. He did consider the position they were in and was sorely tempted to just not give an answer without any further comment. But his desire to debate these religious issues got the better of him. That object, whatever it was, God successfully veered it away from his World. He was able to keep himself safe as well as all of us here. His mercy knows ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The one who openly rejected God! The one who turned his back on his religion. Well that explains everything! A councillor replied. Volgon was now quite angry and upset. You ignorant fools. Fursha had nothing to do with that object. It came from beyond God s World. We were with Fursha when it first appeared from outside God s World. We can even point to the part of the sky it came from. No, Fursha is totally innocent. Another God sent it! This had the reaction of all the council members standing up. Never had they heard such blasphemy. Members had been killed for less. Consequently this gave Sargon an idea. He grabbed a spear off the nearest Enforcer. You have blasphemed against our Lord and Protector. Our laws are very clear! There is no other way forward. Sargon announced and without any warning he plunged the spear into Volgon. The others gasped in response and grabbed Volgon as he fell to the ground. They looked back up at Sargon who had casually retaken his seat. He showed no remorse at all. Werten, in particular, was angry to the point of madness. He leapt up in a futile effort to attack Sargon. But several Enforcers grabbed him before he could get anywhere near. Why did you do that? Karjon eventually said. We were just debating a point. He did not deserve to die! What kind of God would condone such an action? Sargon rose again. It is clear to me that your debate as you call it, is really just an excuse to prolong your lives. You ... Social/Political/Philosophical Agendas or Issues Being Dealt with by the Author(Themes) One of the biggest agendas of Achebe in writing this novel is to present the point of view of the tribal Africans. The presence of the Christian missionaries prove this point and Achebe recognized this problem and how it essentially wiped out the true culture and tradition of the Igbo. He wanted to display the real problems and lives of the Igbo society without any outside influence. Another important theme that is conveyed is that being too strict or ambitious with our children cautions us to behave with prudence as opposed to emotion. Throughout the book, Okonkwo lives by emotion and his only goal is to come off as a strong fighter. His strict attitude towards Nwoye only causes him to act against Okonkwo s choice and join the Christian missionaries. Achebe shows that we should be flexible and raise our kids with judgement and leniency, because if we rule by emotion, it can lead to our downfall. (As seen in both Okonkwo and ... From cyber bullying, to not knowing how to communicate with people, to self image, and to something as simple as not knowing how to read a map, are just some of the many negative ways that social media and technology have impacted the youth. In contrast, backward reaching transfer occurs when one is faced with a problem and looks back on what he or she has learned in other situations to help in this new situation. Factors that contribute to transfer of learning Initial Learning Without an adequate level of initial learning, transfer cannot be expected (Mestre, 2002). The importance of initial learning was illustrated by a series of studies designed to access the effects of learning to program in the computer language LOGO. When initial learning was accessed, it was found that students often had not learned enough about LOGO to provide a basis for transfer (Bransford, Brown, and Cocking, 1999). Many studies that have failed to produce transfer have resulted from insufficient opportunities for students to learn efficiently in the first place (Mestre, 2002). Understanding Transfer is also affected by the degree to which people learn with understanding rather than merely memorizing. • 14. Lab Report Sample Essay Introduction The exposed roadcut east of the Doc Long Picnic area, about 9 miles north of the town of Cedar Crest on the east side of the Sandia Mountains, provided an exceptional site to study weathering processes. The exposed Precambrian Sandia Granite offered a place to collect data and test the hypothesis that biotite content, grainsize, and associated inclusions have influenced the amount of weathering that has occurred. The granite underlies the Great Unconformity and the Madera Formation, which is a carbonate succession with interbedded sandstones, Pennsylvanian in age. The granitic outcrop composed of the dominant minerals quartz, potassium feldspar (some plagioclase), and biotite (field book) displayed different degrees of weathering. Different weathering features in the exposure such as grussification, jointing, and corestones suggested that grain size and biotite content were not the only influences on weathering processes taking place. Methods Data collection for assessing our hypothesis consisted of making several observations along the exposed granite. There are many philosophical theories that relate to these discussion such as white gaze, one drop rule, and five faces of oppression. Moreover, these theories also applies to my ethnicity which is Dominican. Even though race is not a real concept, due to the fact that is a men made belief to categorize people based on their skin color, culture, and religion, it isolates people into experiencing new things. Wool, the material that performed the best overall, is made up of 2 strings, one is wound in parallel lines, while the other wind through the parallel strings. Also, because denim performed the worst in the experiments, it also means that it would be the material to avoid if a company wants to make fencing jackets. This information could be used in the future because if a new material is required to make fencing jackets, then the producers will know that wool is the best material to use. Also, if the safety requirements change, or a fencer needs custom made equipment, then they will know that wool is an effective material to use. Another experiment that could be done in the future, would be a test to see how breathable each material is, so that producers know which material will make you sweat the most and which will make you sweat the least. In his chapter The Rabbis and the Slavery Question , Bertram Wallace Korn notes how Judaism s religious ideals and principles were interpreted in widely disparate ways when a crucial issue faced the entire nation ; in the case of the Civil War that is interpreted according to geographic sentiments and the ideologies that went along with them(slavery). With the exception of New York City, whose general sentiments regarding slavery went along with the anti abolitionist sermons of Dr. Morris J. Raphall and articles of Mordecai M. Noah, Northern Jewry tended to be abolitionist while Southern followed their Christian neighbor s in extolling the virtues of slavery. The reason for this kind of outlook is not surprising in the least, as any minority people will invariably take up the majority culture as a means of survival. However, Jews were [possibly] more prone to this throughout their stay in the early United States, as Rabbinic Judaism has always championed that the law of the land is the law when living in the diaspora; a teaching which would ultimately justify the beliefs and actions of both sides to themselves. In Shifting Veils , Diane Ashton posits that especially in the nineteenth century Jews throughout the United States borrowed and adopted the attitudes common to the regions in which they lived . For years prior to the Civil War no Jew wanted to appear disloyal to their majority Christian neighbors (many of whom regarded them with suspicion) or to their country, and as such did everything they could to adopt the culture and beliefs of their region [either out of sincere belief or desire to blend in ]. Ranger s going to have a heart attack when he sees that, Blaine sneered. We needed fresh water and there was a spring at the mouth of Soper Brook. While Roger and I watched the smoke billow into the sky, Blaine went and got a jug of fresh water from the spring. When Blaine returned to our canoe, he looked confused. There s a bunch of blue tarps up there, it looks like a shanty of some sort, Blaine said. You guys want to go check it out? Can we wait until tomorrow? My stomach s getting the best of me. Congressman Randy Weber was instantly approached by the media. Mr. Weber said, It s unbelievable that all of these young volunteers of different races and religions have gathered together to help others that were affected by the hurricane. The dialogue he had with the interviewer was refreshing. The judge of the local court, Terry Lawrence, stayed back for several hours and assisted us with collecting the tickets and transporting the water cases into cars. He was excellent with communicating with the locals. His enthusiasm and high spirit allowed the line to operate at a quicker pace. The bright smiles that radiated from the people kept the volunteers pushing in the hot weather. Some of the people who were receiving the supplies parked their cars to help volunteer. After a couple of hours of moving hundreds of water pallets, I was relocated in the front of the supply rotation. My job was to escort families throughout the supply line. The first family I met left an impression on me. The Mexican mother was holding her son, who did not have any articles of clothing on but a diaper. She was about to burst into tears when she received the supplies. I carried a thirty six water bottle pack to her car and loaded her box of supplies into the back. With his degree and experience he gained working at JC Penny s he, along with his brother, opened a Ben Franklin store. By the late 50 s they owned 9 Ben Franklin franchises. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It has been said in the recent past that Walmart says they treat their employees well but there have been cases recently where this was found not to be true unfortunately. Treating employees unfairly could have a negative economic impact on the community because if workers aren t treated fairly then no one wants to work for the company that s not treating their employees well. Which then has a domino effect because chances are, if that s the case, then people will begin to bash Walmart driving consumers away to possibly purchase from other retailers. This would not be a positive economic environment at all and the chances of the business failing would be pretty good. To best maintain a thriving legal, social and economical environment Walmart needs to have in place a good management structure and for the most part I think they do. If they didn t they would not have risen to be one of the largest retailers in the world over the past almost 50 years. They have a company wide management structure that all stores abide by. This structure includes planning and promotions, goal setting amongst employees, organizing how operations flow on a day to day basis, directing its employees and controlling finances. Abydos becomes an important location during Ancient Egyptian history. The end of the Old Kingdom saw the city of Abydos as the center for Osiris. We see Abydos becoming the destination for pilgrimages and the site for annual festivities. Looking specifically at the stelas at Abydos we see that they are smaller in size and lack the artistic preciseness we see in later funerary complexes.
