How Does Lawrence s Use Of Juxtaposition
In D.H Lawrence s novel The Rainbow the woman is faced with a situation: a lust for a different life.
One that is not based on blood intimacy like the ideals of her rural family. One that allowed her to face
away from the pulsing heat of the sun and explore the magic land where men were dominant and
creative. However, it is a dream that she may never achieve. Since he used literary devices such as
Irony and juxtaposition, it allowed him to characterize the woman and capture her situation.
One literary device that he chose to used in order to capture the woman s situation was Irony. The
Irony is created by the woman s house. One would expect that if she wanted to leave her house and
explore the world beyond the one she knew, she would be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The juxtaposition was created by the description of the two types of men. In the story both men share
a common trait of power. However, lawrence began to further explain how The vicar moved in worlds
beyond where her own menfolk existed. Did she not know her own menfolk; fresh, slow, full built
men, masterful enough, but easy, native to the earth laking outwardness and range of motion. Whereas
the vicar, dark and dry and small beside her husband had yet a quickness and a range of being made
Brangwen, in his large geniality, seem dull and local (Lawrence). This explains the difference between
the two men. This explains how the woman s husband is strong and has a deep connection with the
earth. Her husband does not need a lot to make himself happy and is content with his limited
knowledge that allows him to work the land. The other description was of the vicar who was satisfied
with small, clean and was capable of doing multiple task. The juxtaposition between the men helps to
characterize the woman by showing what she does and does not want. She wants to live like the vicar,
a life with more mindful and individualistic activities. She does not want a life that is connectied to the

Modem Profession
An occupation does not become a profession merely because its members decide it will be one.
Modem professions share much in common with classical professions. The Hallmarks that have come
to characterize a profession are based on a midevel models: a guild, high level of education, public
recognition, and a specialized body of knowledge.
Emanating from the existential needs of society and the professions are established and maintained by
the mutual interactions of society and professions, both collectively and individually. Therefore,
professional ethics can be seen as the explicit understanding of the relationship between the profession
and society. The making of the model, the covenant is one of the oldest and most enduring ways in

The Love Of My Life Analysis
In T. Coraghessan Boyle s story The Love of My Life, it centers around the teenage relationship of
Jeremy and China who claim to be in love with one another and nothing else matters to them. Their
relationship; however, is centered around what a relationship is like in movies and based of the
physical attraction to each other as well as being naive to what real love is as this is their first real
relationship with a significant other. The relationship between the two is great until they encounter
their first real obstacle in the relationship when China becomes pregnant. The egocentric nature of
both characters takes over and there begins to be cracks within the relationship. Now they face the
reality of becoming parents and they blame ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
China s negative outlook on teen pregnancy can be concluded to the individuals around her as why she
believes what she does. Parents affect their children s views on many topics concerning various
aspects, and it seems as if China s parents have created a negative outlook on teenage pregnancy.
China says, I will never be like those breeders that bring their puffed up squalling little red faced
babies to class (Boyle 558). Her negative outlook has obviously been skewed as she believes teens
become pregnant based off of their own choice and not the product of chance. She does not seem to
understand that all the right steps can be taken to avoid pregnancy when having sex, but still the
woman can become pregnant. Her take on this subject can be attributed to believing the views of her
privileged community, families who have never been affected by teen pregnancy, and therefore, can
not give an accurate representation of their lives or how teen pregnancy may have helped their life for
the better. The quote shows her naive nature as the education on teen pregnancy does not seem
evident, but instead the words of her parents and those unaffected by teen pregnancy and taken in and
believed. Her view on pregnancy, of course, can be attributed to why she never told her parents or
anyone that she was pregnant. Now she appears as a hypocrite as she is the one who is a

Nature v. Nurture in Mark Twain s Pudd nhead Wilson and Those Extraordinary Twins
What makes a person who they are is a difficult dilemma. Mark Twain s novel, Pudd nhead Wilson
and Those Extraordinary Twins is a critical analysis of how nature and nurture can cultivate emotions
and free will, which in turn affects the life of individuals. Twain s faltering sense of direction began
about slavery, moral decay, and deceptive realities (Kaplan 314). The debate of `nature versus nurture
has been one of the most intriguing scientific and cultural issues for most of the twentieth century, in
determining the behavioral aspects of human beings. The changes in environment, society, education,

Caucasians in the southern states became the superior race and the Negroes became the inferior race,
thus the labels of Master and slave evolved. Virtually all Anthropologists, Scientists, Sociologist,
Psychologists, and scientists agree that there is no credible evidence that supports that one race is
culturally or psychologically different from any other, or that one race is superior to another. Yet
Twain, In Pudd nhead Wilson creates the character Roxy as both races, one physically and one
mentally. Though her features make her appear to white, Her complexion was very fair, with rosy
glow of vigorous health in her cheeks, her face was full of character and expression, her eyes were
brown and liquid, and she had a heavy suit of fine soft hair which was also brown (Twain 9). To all
intents and purposes Roxy was as white as anybody, but the one sixteenth of her which was black
outvoted the other fifteen parts and made her a Negro (Brand 308).

Equal Pay Differentials
The debate of equal pay between men and women has been an ongoing issue for years and is still
being debated to this day, the belief that men deserve to be paid more than women solely based on
gender, is an outdated opinion that is being addressed through different types of legal laws. The Equal
Pay Act of 1963 was the first step towards an adjustment of balance in pay for women (EEOC, n.d.).
The Equal Pay Act of 1963 is an amendment of the Fair Labor Standards Acts, a federal statute of the
United States. The Equal Pay Act of 1963 is a U.S. federal law enforced by the U.S. Equal
Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), and aimed at ending wage mismatch based on sex. .
The Equal Pay Act of 1963 was signed into law on June 10, 1963, by John F. Kennedy as part of his

Pay differentials are permitted, when they are based on seniority, merit, quantity or quality of
production, or a factor other than sex. These are known as affirmative defenses, Employers have the
task of proving factors other than gender are the reason for pay differentials (SHRM.org, n.d.).
Congress expressed that sex discrimination, depresses wages and living standards for employees
necessary for their health and efficiency, prevents the maximum utilization of the available labor
resources, tends to cause labor disputes, thereby burdening, affecting, and obstructing commerce,
burdens commerce and the free flow of goods in commerce, and constitutes an unfair method of
competition (Wikipedia, n.d.). Due to the growth of women furthering their education and interring
into the workforce obtaining positions generally held by men, the Equal Pay Act of 1963 is vital in
making sure women are being treated and equally compensated for the work they do in occupations
traditionally dominated by men. I guess some of you could have probably guessed why I would pick

Head Coach Essay
Calaveras Enterprise sports editor Guy Dossi spoke with Calaveras new junior varsity head coach
Doug Clark. They spoke of the difference from going from a varsity assistant coach to a head JV
coach, the changes Clark will have to make on game day, and what he misses about coaching varsity.
GD: Well Doug, I looked at the schedule earlier during the summer and I saw you were listed at JV
head coach and it kind of took me by surprise. You were the varsity defensive coordinator for such a
long time, what made you want to make the switch?

A good varsity program really depends on a strong JV program. Can you talk about the importance of
building a strong foundation on the lower level, so that the varsity squad continues to get players who
are ready to compete year after year.
DC: (Jason) Weatherby has done a wonderful job and I just hope to go down to the JV level and keep
that going. It boils down even to the Pop Warner level. That s something that as a JV coach, I want to
incorporate even more. More communication and more networking with the Pop Warner team.
Because the Pop Warner feeds the JV. The JV feeds the varsity. The more that we are on sync, the
better the program is going to be overall.
GD: You were associated with the varsity team for such a long time, so it must be difficult not
coaching with guys you consider your friends and having them around all the time.
DC: It s very weird. It s different. You see them on the field before we separate and I talk to them
afterwards and there are a lot of phone calls going back and forth. But yeah, that s one of the hardest
parts about going down. I ve been coaching with those guys for so long. We know each other s moves.
We can read each other s minds and we are always on the same page. That s now what I m trying to
get accomplished down below.
GD: Now that you are coaching junior varsity, that changes the way your Friday s unfold. Before, you
could relax during the JV game, maybe eat a tri tip sandwich, shoot the breeze with your

The basic functions and powers of the NPC are to amend the Constitution, to supervise the
enforcement of the Constitution, to enact and amend basic laws covering crucial matters, and to decide
on the major national leaders. Strategic development plans for the national economy and social affairs
have been vital towards advancing China s social progress. But these plans are only in effect after

Informative Speech On Marine Mammals
When you think of mammals, what do you do you think of? You probably think about warm blooded,
air breathing animals. Mammals are animals with spinal columns, which are called vertebrates, that
have warm blood, hair, and they breathe air. Yes, all mammals do indeed breathe air; it depends on the
size of the mammal for their frequency of breathing. All mammals also provide milk through
mammary glands. For example, women get pregnant and they produce breast milk through the
mammary glands of their breast to feed their babies, well if you count us humans as mammals. Marine

nowhere, and no one really knows why they happen. You should remember that they are very strong
and might not know their own strength. So what the attacks at Sea World might have been mistakes
from them trying to be playful, you never know. Let s talk about polar bears. Polar bears are
considered marine mammals because their lives really are mostly underwater. They spend time and get
food from the ocean. The white fur of a polar bear is meant for the polar bear to be camouflaged with

The Causes Of Wealth Inequality In America
Grace Ogunkunle
Prof. D. Fozouni
English 102 (SBVC)
Research Paper
Dec 8, 2017.
Wealth Gap In America
Americans today live in a distinctly unequal society. Inequality is now wider than it used to be in the
last century, and the division in income, wages, and wealth are broader than they are in other
developed economies of the world. Wealth inequality is the imbalance of wealth or income within a
society, and it is one of the most vital economic challenge the US is facing today because the
distribution of wealth is more dispersed, making the inequality in wealth distribution at its highest.
While the matter has been discussed for many years, the actual income disparity in the U.S. has
heightened and is now verging on an extreme gap that portends to impede long term economic growth.
The huge gap between the wealthy and poor is squeezing the U.S. economy, the wealth gap threatens
economic growth by diminishing social mobility and producing a less educated workforce who are not
able to compete in the global economy. unrestrained level of income inequality causes political
pressures, it discourages trade, investment, and hiring. The present level of income inequality in the
U.S. is shrinking GDP growth, and the world s largest economy is struggling to recover from the Great
Recession. Wealth inequality has become a hot topic in recent years, this is because the return rate on
capital, such as stocks or real estate, outruns that of economic growth which resulted in the wealthiest
grasping a growing share of wealth, leading to increasing inequality. The unequal distribution of
wealth has been a major hallmark of the U.S economy, and among its most notable and lasting results,
but until it was brought to the awareness of the public by the Occupy movement s catch phrase
referring to the 1% of the populace who control half of the nation s wealth, this issue had not been
brought to the limelight of public economic and political discourse since the Great Depression of the
1930s, and almost every American is basically unaware of the true magnitude and character of the
unequal distribution of wealth in our country. Inequality in wealth i.e. the sum of household savings,
home equity, investments, and debts is

Comparing The Differences Between The Outsiders, By...
The outsiders The movie The Outsiders was produced in 1983 by director Francis Ford Coppola, the
book came out in 1967 published by S. E. Hinton. It is found under young adult fiction and crime
film/ teen film. This book is about to rival gangs the greasers and the sos. The greasers are a group of
lower class boys who come from bad homes. They rely on only each other for support and friendship.
On the other hand, the sos are a group of upper class kids who get everything they want they don t
really ever hear the word no. They own nice things and come from nice fancy houses with nice cars
and lots of money. The book is very different from the movie because certain scenes are cut out and
some scenes and words exchanged between characters are altered. The first difference between the
movie and the book is in the movie Darry pushed Ponyboy during an argument about why Ponyboy
got home so late. In the book, after Ponyboy returns home late Darry is furious and slaps Ponyboy,
Ponyboy runs and finds Johnny in hopes of running away. But in the movie Darry pushes Ponyboy
instead of slapping him, Ponyboy was already tired of how Darry picks on him all the time. So when
Darry pushes him it sets him over the edge. This was an effective change because in the movie when
the couch fell and it made the audience more mad at Darry. In the book that never happened so it wasn
t as dramatic and entertaining. Therefore the push was much more significant than the slap. The
second difference

The Effect Of Chlorofluorocarbon And...
Chlorofluorocarbon and hydrochlorofluorocarbon refrigerants have been widely used in traditional
cooling systems. These refrigerants accelerate the depletion of the Earth s ozone layer. Therefore,
adsorption air conditioning technology attracted much attention recently as an alternative solution due
to its advantage of environmental friendliness. This system as it powered by waste and/or solar heat
can help to reduce required energy and thermal pollution. This paper presents an overview of research
which have been carried out on adsorption cooling systems powered by waste heat from automobiles.
Many adsorption pairs have been studied. Zeolite water as a working adsorption pair has been widely
used in automobile adsorption cooling systems. This pair has been powered by exhaust gases from the
engine due to its relatively high working temperature. Silica gel water pair has been also widely used
in automobile adsorption cooling systems. It has been powered by waste heat from water coolant in
the engine due to its relatively low working temperature. Results show that this technology can help in
increasing overall engine efficiency and reduce thermal pollution from engines. Various modifications
in adsorption cooling systems are still required. One of the bottlenecks which prevents the
improvement of adsorption cooling technology is its relatively low performance compared to
conventional vapor mechanical compression technologies.

The University Of South Florida Contemporary Art Museum Essay
In order to compose this assignment, I visited the University of South Florida Contemporary Art
Museum (CAM). The USF Contemporary Art Museum is a compact museum on campus located near
the Dance buildings and the Theatres. The museum opened its establishment in 1989 and has offered a
wide range of art from around the world including the United States, Africa, Europe, and Latin
America (usfcam.usf.edu). In order to keep students engaged in the art, the museum changes its
exhibits a couple times a year. Currently, the exhibition on display is entitled Extracted and
incorporates the extraction and circulation of natural resources around the globe (Megan Voeller).
Despite the museum being not large in size, I was able to attain a sense of nature through photographs,
sculptures, video messages, and banners produced from artists including Otobang Nkanga, Marina
Zurkow, Claire Pentecost, Mary Mattingly and Daniel Shiffman. The social angle most strongly
related to the exhibit on display at this time is nature and culture. Extracted was motivated by
relationships between humans and the environment referring to complex technical processes behind
oil drilling and mining or industrial agriculture (Megan Voeller). Most of the artists focus their work
on nature including the environment, ecosystems, and life itself. One artists in particular whose work
stood out to me was Claire Pentecost with her work Soil erg. This distinct exposition was located in

Djibouti
One out of every two refugees is African. The enormity of Africa s refugee crisis has driven
international observers to take a hard look at how refugees are being handled by international
assistance agencies and governments. The following case study of refugees from Ethiopia in Djibouti,
based on information collected by CS s Refugee Research Project, increases problems vital to refugee
situations in Africa as well as the rest of the world. The Republic of Djibouti, one of the smallest and
poorest countries of the world, is located on the Red Sea. The country consists of a gravelly desert
landscape spanning the most active strategic harbor in the region. Djibouti s population is mainly
made up of Muslims with smaller numbers of Arabs and Europeans. Djibouti has a very limited
amount of natural resources to support its own residents. The country has a high national
unemployment rate, placing further economic pressure on the population. After independence from
France in 1977, Djibouti accepted tens of thousands of Tigrae, Somali, Eritrean, Afars, Eritrean, and
other refugees from Ethiopia. Djibouti is currently the host to over 30,000 refugees fleeing abuse in
neighboring Ethiopia and war in Yemen. Djibouti continues to deal with a protracted refugee crisis,
having hosted more than 23,000 mainly Somali refugees, in many cases for more than two decades, in

Notes Of A Biology Watcher, By Lewis Thomas
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be an ant? Author of The Lives of a Cell: Notes of a
Biology Watcher Lewis Thomas, has. In his essay, he compares ants to humans. He has a theory that
they are very similar. I believe this comparison is accurate one because both humans and ants act
similar in the way they live, both are a stronger force when they work together, and both have a nature
to cause destruction. He accomplishes driving his point home by exposing his readers to a new
explanation of human nature and how related it is to ants human nature. Lewis Thomas starts the
comparison from the very beginning of the essay. He starts with the lifestyle of both creatures. Ants

He also hints that actions require consequences and someone taking responsibility for those actions,
ants being superior in this situation. They...Launch armies into wars, use chemical sprays to alarm and
confuse enemies, capture slaves,. The families of weaver ants engage in child labor.. (Thomas 1 6).
This quote compares ants destructive nature to humans. People cause wars and we use chemical
sprays, and many years ago we captured slave. Even though it is illegal, humans still engage in child
labor, as well. Thomas also states, I am unsure of the meaning, but I think it has something to do with
all that plastic that, and the distance from the earth... But I think it was chiefly the plastic, which
seems to me the most unearthly of all man s creations so far. I do not believe you can suspend army
ants away from the earth, on plastic for any length of time. They will lose touch, run out of energy,
and die for lack of current. As written before this compares the destructive nature of humans. If a
human was taken from their home and their resources, they too would become home sick and could
possibly die. Both humans and ants are meant to live their natural habitats. In this quote, he also
alludes that humans need to take responsibility for their actions. He in a way holds them

Martin Luther And The Protestant Reformation
In the early days of November 10, 1483, Martin Luther was born in Eisleben, Saxony, in modern
southeast Germany and it was an extremely tense world. But on the other hand great changes were
waiting around the corner, and Luther too, would take a part in these changes.
On October 31, 1517, Martin Luther, angry with Pope Leo X s new round of indulgences to help build
St. Peter s Basilica, nailed a sheet of paper with his 95 Theses on the University of Wittenberg s
chapel door. Martin Luther was a German monk who began the Protestant Reformation in the 16th
century, becoming one of the most influential and controversial figures in Christian history. Luther
called into question some of the basic tenets of Roman Catholicism, and his followers soon split from
the Roman Catholic Church to begin the Protestant tradition.
The first few years of monastic life were difficult for Martin Luther, as he did not find the religious
enlightenment he was seeking. A mentor told him to focus his life exclusively on Christ and this
would later provide him with the guidance he sought.
At age 27, Luther was given the opportunity to be a delegate to a Catholic church conference in Rome.
He came away more disillusioned, and very discouraged by the immorality and corruption he
witnessed there among the Catholic priests. Upon his return to Germany, he enrolled in the University
of Wittenberg in an attempt to suppress his spiritual turmoil. He excelled in his studies and received a
doctorate,

Remember The Titans ( 2000 )
Remember the Titans (2000), is based on the true story of Coach Herman Boone, the football coach of
T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria, Virginia. Now Coach Boone becomes the football coach
around 1970, and he is promoted to be the Head Coach of the team, and he is an African American,
while the high school is newly desegregated and starting the controversial practice of bussing black

board as the assistant coach of the Titans football team. And if that wasn t difficult enough for this
town and people to deal with, later that evening it is announced that Boone is actually the new head
coach. As the football team goes off to camp during the summer, Coach Boone gets to introduce
himself to the team and his staff members as to what kind of teacher, trainer, and coach he is. And
Coach Boone is actually quite tough at times, especially in the beginning of the relationship, when the
team is still in training. Sometimes he is seen as stubborn and seemingly too decisive by some of the
other coaches and probably all of the athletes on the team. He repeatedly keeps turning down ideas
from the other coaches and responds by saying let me worry about my offense. He often plays a very
metalized coach. He likes to get near the players and whisper fourth quarter, over and over again, just
as a way to fire up his athletes. Coach Boone is very self aware that his player s attitudes are

The Paradox Of The Hero
The Paradox of the Hero in Paradise Lost What exactly is a hero? A common pedestrian might say a
hero is someone who goes out of their way to help people. A child may say that a hero is someone
who performs valiant deeds. Merriam Webster Dictionary itself has 3 definitions of a hero: a person
who is admired for great or brave deeds or acts, a person who is greatly admired and the chief male [or
female] in a story, play, movie etc. (Merriam Webster Dictionary). In a literary situation, a hero is
defined as one with certain traits that follows the epic hero cycle. The epic hero cycle is a common
literary tool used throughout the ages in famous epics, such as The Iliad and The Odyssey. It follows a
simple pattern; a strong person, usually male and of noble birth, journeys on a long and treacherous
quest, encountering many mythical beings along the way, and usually hitting a snag before their
victory. John Milton s Paradise Lost follows the exact same pattern, except with a character no one
would expect: Satan. Satan exhibits many of the traits an epic hero while at the same time following
the traditional epic cycle. Although he is not seen as a hero by many, Satan is indisputably the hero of
Paradise Lost who follows the epic cycle down to the last detail: he is a powerful supernatural being
of noble birth that is tasked with a long and treacherous quest and tested within that quest before his
victory. The quest that Satan takes on is not the standard save the

Siren Song
The poem Siren Song by Margaret Atwood follows the narrative of a siren, a mythical creature known
for drawing sailors in with their singing and leading them towards death. The siren is not content with
her life squatting on an island/ looking all picturesque and mythical. . She calls the song, which she
uses to lure sailors in, a boring song. She stated at the end that, though she does not like the song, it
works every time, so she must resort to it. The poem describes the siren song as a cry for help that is
irresistible to all who hear it. There are ancient stories of men jumping overboard, almost always to
their death, to reach that sweet sound. We can never be sure what it sounds like, so it is left up to the
imagination what song could be so powerful as to make men jump towards their death to reach? In a

There in the shelter draw bottom the wind did not blow very hard, but I could hear it singing its
humming tune up on a level, and I could see the tall grasses wave. pg. 14 This quote tells readers how
even small things such as the soft blow of the wind can cause many things to happen, such as the
humming of the wind and the grass s movements. It also symbolizes how the world is at peace right
now. The tone of this quote is in a describing manner by the details they provide in this quote. These
all contribute to helping the reader understand the scene in Jim s point of view.
Perhaps we feel like that when we die and become part of something entire, whether it is sun and air,
or goodness and knowledge. At any rate, that is happiness; to be dissolved into something complete
and great. When it comes to one, it comes as naturally as sleep. pg. 14 This is a theme in this story
telling us how real happiness lies with something greater such as knowledge rather than stuff bought.
The tone of this quote is very serious to help the reader understand what he is talking about. This is
reality, whether you like it or not. All those frivolities of summer, the light and shadow, the living
mask of green that trembled over everything, they were lies, and this is what was underneath. This is
truth. pg. 112 This quotes tone is very straightforward and it serves as a theme showing how some
things are not real. The way this quote is written helps tells the reader that this

Immigrants As A Better Life For Their Future
All people are diverse and come from many backgrounds. Most people settled here in America as an
immigrant to start a better life for their future generations and for opportunities. Most people came
here with nothing but bringing along their cultures, knowledge, beliefs and behaviors which they can
be shared amongst others in groups and society. In society, starting with the earlier generation there
was always shared culture of classes, although everyone portrays immigrants as the lowest status.
They are always disliked particularly for coming here as an immigrant, even though most of their
backgrounds or their parent s background statuses were very much similar whether they want to admit
it or not. It s how they hold themselves in society. People are divided into different classes and treated
differently. Most immigrants have to settle in, adapting to the American lifestyle, whether they like it
or not, they ll have to blend in and start off with low paying jobs and making new friends. Adapting to
lifestyle, the choice of food and to how they communicate. It is always harder for immigrants to unite
with everyone since people are so strict against immigrants; they judge them as outcasts by what they
eat, what they wear and especially how one communicates. High culture/elites think they are higher
ranking so therefore there is always miscommunication. They think they are way better and wouldn t
want except one another because of status or flaws. In the reading Mother

The Issue Of New Zealand
New Zealand is one of the countries in the world that has unwritten consititution and it is vital because
it is the base of a government on how to govern a country based on it. Having a written constitution in
New Zealand will give New Zealanders more access about certain documents on the consitution itself.
On the other hand, if New Zealand continuously having an unwritten constitution, the citizen may not
have knowledge on it due to limited access on it. This essay will clarify on constitution and what is a
written constitution. This essay also covers the need to include the Constitution Act 1986, the Public
Finance Act 1989 and the Arms Act 1983 and removing the Public Sector Act 1988 from it.
Constitution is the basic principles and laws of a nation, state or social groups that determine the
powers and duties of the government and guarantee certain rights to the citizen (Merriam Webster
online dictionary, n.d). In other words, it is a set of guidelines for a government to exercise the given
power.
New Zealand is currently practicing democracy system, a system where the powers are vested in the
people and exercised by them directly or indirectly through a system of representations such as public
elections (Merriam Webster online dictionary, n.d). Hence, parliamentary elections must be done
every three years to elect new members of Parliament (MPs). On 1986, the formation of Constitution
Act 1986 make UK completely powerless to legislate for New Zealand as the residual

The Eel Marsh House In Susan Hill s The Woman In Black
In Susan Hill s The Woman in Black, the story starts out in present day London England on Christmas
Eve. Arthur Kipps, the main character and narrator is getting ready to tell his grandchildren a story
from when he was young. The story makes for a great ghost story. When Arthur was young he was a
businessman, who was sent on a business trip to Crythin Gifford to search through documents in the
house of a woman who had recently past away. Her name was Alice Drablow, and she lived at the
house commonly known as the Eel Marsh House. She was an woman whose husband had recently

opinion. However, this assumption was incorrect. When Arthur was on a train, he meets a man named

looking woman dressed in all black at the funeral. The strange part is when he asks the townspeople
what is wrong with her, none of them knew who he was talking about. When he finally gets to the Eel
Marsh House he realizes that finding the documents were not going to be easy to find at all. There are
many piles of paper scattered around, and he would need to sort through all of them. While in the

Mississippi By Anne Moody
The main idea of the book revolves around the issue of discrimination and inequality in the 1940 s
against the Black community in Mississippi. The book is written by Anne Moody, who throws light on
the difficulties she faced as a black women living in Mississippi.
The book talks about Moody s early years and her family s instability and struggle living in a racial
environment of Mississippi. Moody was chafed by the indifference and insensitivity that the Black
people faced at the mediocre social and economic positions allotted to them. Moody, being the eldest
of the six children, started becoming aware of the extremity and the predicament of poor Black

Citizenship of Organization, Nation and Planet Rights and Responsibilities
It has been rightly said by someone The price of freedom is eternal vigilance. Eternal vigilance for the
citizen must take many forms. There are many varied definitions for Citizen, but in this context it can
be said that Citizen is the person who represents the country legally and Citizenship describes the
status of belonging somewhere and it implies both rights and responsibilities (Graham, 1991). When a

They show a positive relationship between proactive Corporate Citizenship and Employee s
Commitment.
Organizational citizenship is a concept that all companies wish to have but very few can actually
achieve. It is rooted in individual employees view of the company and how they associate themselves
with it.
Some of the examples of Organizational Citizenship are as follows:
Assisting coworkers: An employee can take time from their work to help another to get their job done,
as they know it s important to the company and to the other employee. We have all potentially had
situations where others pitched in to get a job done that had nothing to do with their specific job,
outside of wanting to help the company and a fellow worker.
Working for the future: So many employees look at what they are going to get right now and do not
look far into the future. Those who practice organizational citizenship believe there will be rewards
down the road and do not focus on the short term; rather, they focus on the long term. This viewpoint
also makes them long term employees, which are desirable to any company.
Being a company representative: When some employees leave for the day, the company they represent
stays behind them in the office. An organizational citizen represents their company 24/7 and has no
problem talking to others about how their company might help them.
Thus, it can be said that organizational citizenship is the

Literature Review Of Globalization
Up to now the literature review has given an insight into the concept of globalization, and the
understanding of several academics in the light of how this phenomenon developed over the years. It
is then essential to cover what the economic benefits of globalization are, and how these may impact a
sector or company. Most of the literature study s that have been written on the economic benefits of
globalization have been after 2006. The reason is because the studies used the globalization index
which was created by Dreher (2006) then further developed by Dreher (2008) again. Many of the
empirical studies used this index as indicator as a base to form their findings.

He goes on to imply that business must make global strategies that would involve making investments
in as much countries as possible. Rajdeep, Murali Robert (2008) agrees with Tallman, as he extends
his view that these strategies must become more flexible and effective to comply with needs of the
changing environment.
The perspective of Driffield and Karoglou (2016) on this issue, discuss that the biggest restriction to
free trade and globalization is uncertainty. Therefore, many organizations will hinder when it comes
making strategic choices about their financial states. Subsequently they derive that one of the most
positive impacts that has occurred because globalization is the creation of the free market. They say
that the creation of this market has made it easier for organization in the car industry to easily import
and export the good that they require from other border countries.
Impact on employment
Furthermore, there is also literature written on the impact free trade has on the gears of an economic
state. One of the components is the effects on employment, and how the free movement of goods has
impacted on this section. Bassanini and Duval 2006 derive from their works that there is a direct link
between free market and unemployment. However, they adhere that there isn t a lot of research done

Compare And Contrast Odysseus And The Nostos
Nostos in its most simple form, means a heroes homecoming. It is a common theme used in ancient
Greek literary works. Homecoming is a great deal to heroes in the ancient epics, as it is the final step
to claiming their kleos (glory). Homer uses this as his main theme in his epic poem the Odyssey, as it
shows the main character Odysseus yearning to return home to Ithaca after twenty years of being
away. The poem portrays Odysseus journey home, however, during his journey he is constantly driven
off course. After ten years, with the help of his main protector, the goddess Athena, Odysseus finally
makes it back home to Ithaca where he reclaims his identity. Later in 19BC, Vergil who was a roman
poet, uses nostos as one of the themes in his epic poem the Aeneid. The poem portrays the main
character Aeneas as a dutiful hero, who has to flee his home, Troy, and is destined to found Rome
(Verg. Aen.1.1). Odysseus and Aeneas nostos are both similar in the sense that they encounter some of
the same sights, they leave behind woman in order to continue on with their journey and they deal
with supernatural forces. On the contrary, the two heroes are completely different in their motivation.
Aeneas reason for his journey is due to his destiny and duty to establish home for his people.
Odysseus, on the other hand has different reasons as to why he longs to return home. Firstly, he wishes
to return to his wife Penelope and his son Telemachus. Secondly, he tries to attain his

Description and Reflection of Dallas Museum The Dallas Museum is a renowned art museum

one of the largest art museums in the United States of America containing more than 24,000

numerous things inside the museum, such as the pieces of art, museum visitors, and the architecture,
that relate to the understanding of the world outside the museum in terms of the day to day life and the
human society. My goal in this essay is to think outside the box and describe the observations I made
inside the museum and explain how they relate to my everyday life, the wider world, or the human
society. The painting work done by C. Bertram Hartman was the first piece of art I observed inside the
Dallas Museum. This painting, completed in 1930, consists of a campanile type tower, most likely a
representation of a historic skyscraper (Walker 73). The painting applies a fractured perspective
blended on an urban look with muted color palettes accompanied by harsh shadows (MacDonald
Brettell 117). The painting is a reflection of the dynamism and energetic expansion of the current New
York City. The geometrical arrangement of the buildings in the painting resemble the current scenes

The Old Testament shows many examples of the roles of women throughout the course of time.
Throughout the Old Testament women rights and roles have changed dramatically from the time of
Eve when she appeared to of had her rights stolen, to the time Ruth used her rights to marry a kin after
being a widow, and the time of Bathsheba when she was instructed to do so instead of being asked.
Their rights throughout the Old Testament have not been set at a constant in fact their rights through

David spotted Bathsheba while on his roof and ordered his men to go and find her and bring her to

Another post colonial issue seen in the text was the issue of power dynamics. Being a colony of a
powerful empire, the colonized are subjects of the colonizers. Because of rising tensions between the
colonized and the colonizers, both are struggling to gain power and influence over the people. The
IRA, being the colonized, prevents the colonizers from gaining any more power in their land. The
colonizers, on the other hand, lose its influence and power over the colonized as the people became
more aware and active in the independence movement. The independence movement in Ireland started
in the 1920s, a period when the British Empire was starting to fall apart. The conflict between the two
warring factions had resulted into a bloodbath since the start of their resistance to the colonizers.
Because of the hatred against the colonizers, the oppressed colonized people fought back in order to
remove them physically and mentally out of their land. The power struggle between the two
belligerent nations had disrupted peace in the country, which resulted to many innocent deaths. This is
evident in the text when the resistance fighters and the colonizers are fighting with their tanks and
their bombs, and their bombs and their guns (O Riordan). War for power and influence had made
Ireland into a dangerous society where its people use force as a means of expressing their sentiments
against colonial rule. Issues in

Hunting agrees, but has a hard time with dealing with a psychologist, scaring five away, two are

Maguire that turns Will around because he is not afraid to talk back to him.
The movie really relates the main idea of the story and that is what psychologists call intimacy. The
two characters of Will and Sean are the central focus of the movie. Skylark, Chuckie and his friends

that there are two kinds of mothers, Chinese Mothers , and Western mothers. Chinese mothers believe

She believes that teaching this way makes the child learn a sense of competition and as well all know,

valid points throughout the whole essay and even uses someone else s story to back up their
information. The information given during the text is quite significant to the back up the points the
author is making. Like stated earlier, using someone else s story is a good way to make sure the
information is correct. Throughout the text, the author will use words that may not seem clear at first,
but Kolbert does a respectable job of clearing things up for the reading and making it easier to follow
along. Since the author based their essay of the basis of another person s writing, it is safe to say that
the author used and interpreted the information very well. Quotes were used frequently throughout.
Kolbert did a lot of wonderful things with the text, however, not many times did you feel the sense of
an argument. The sense of just a general summary was felt the whole time. Overall the author did a
very nice job gathering this information and giving it back in a way that the audience had a good
understanding on where she stood with this issue.

they are young will only cause trouble later. However, degrading them

of two different genres of dance; street and modern (ten of each) in his article. The purpose of this

both male and female (six female and four male street dancers, ten female modern dancers) between
the ages of 17 and 36, and the only requirement was that the participants of this study attend dance
classes at least two times a week. The positive factors that were measured in this experiment were
psychological well being and activeness, and negative factors were anxious expectations, fears and

in a market structure in which there is only a single seller of a good, service, or resource. In the

J. Robert Oppenhimer s Leadership Essay
J. Robert Oppenhimer s leadership was critical in the United States creation of the atomic bomb. The
name J. Robert Oppenheimer is inextricably coupled with the Manhattan Project. Was Oppenheimer
immoral in his role as overseer of the project which sought to create weapon of mass destruction? We
shall consider evidence from Oppenheimer s life, as well as the historical context surrounding
Oppenheimer s decision, and contrast similar decisions made by scientists in comparable scenarios.
J. Robert Oppenheimer was born to an upper middle class Jewish family on 22 April, 1904. Ill health
as a child and protective parents prevented him from making many friends. Instead, Oppenheimer was
devoted to academic pursuits, and was admitted to Harvard at age 18. Before attending university, he

In September 1925, Oppenheimer was accepted to Christ College, Cambridge University, where he

I believe their should be rules regulating health and nutrition in schools. if I were a school official I
would make the rules more lenient. I would make getting a fruit or vegetable mandatory, but I would
let you choose the serving and choose only what you want to eat. there is no point in forcing food on
children it would just waste money.
I believe making it mandatory to take a fruit and vegetable a day in school lunches influences
everyday life . have you ever remembered eating something so good and you would want to eat it at
home so you go buy it from your local supermarket and purchase it. it could be the same circumstance
at school. If the school served vegetarian lasagna that day and you thought it was amazing and you
crave it at

Analysis Of House Of The Seven Gables Essay
Evil within the Portraits The traditional Gothic taste for portraits is frequent in many novels and short
stories that follow the conventions of literary mode making it present in these both texts; House of the
Seven Gables by Hawthorne and Edgar Allen Poe s The Oval Portrait. Often the characters in such
Gothic romances are haunted by the tyranny of the past, which make it inescapable. It often leads to
the destruction of their loved ones. Others motive of escape is often pulled back by a curse that the
character creates upon himself. According to The Art of Terror by Maria Antonia Lima she says, These
portraits are usually a source of terror, with the past presented as something alive, like a ghost that
haunts the present with its terrible mystery. Many authors consider this kind of literature itself as an
example of modern art because it can become an anti realist protest and a rebellion of the imagination
against the reduction of fiction to the analysis of contemporary habits (Lima 80). The painter
introduces the portrait in the Oval Portrait by Edgar Allen Poe as overwhelming to him. The painter
changes his behavior by no longer seeing his wife as his wife rather as an image through the lens of
his painting. This idea of a portrait can be signified as a curse. A curse that plays with the Pyncheon s
and the painter s emotions. In The House of the Seven Gables the portrait of Colonel Pyncheon is
presented as an everlasting reminder of its dark past and the

Analysis Of Benjamin Franklin s The Greatest Founding...
Top of Form
Benjamin Franklin
There is no doubt that Benjamin Franklin is one of the greatest Founding Fathers, if not one of the
greatest Americans ever to have lived. Franklin racked up numerous accolades throughout his 84 year
life span and is also the only Founding Father to sign the Declaration of Independence, the Treaty of
Peace with Great Britain, and the United States Constitution. As a man who came from humble
beginnings, Franklin is the embodiment of a self made man. An incredibly driven human being,
Franklin sought out to improve himself day in and day out. In fact, he believed that success was
derived from self improvement. Franklin was a true believer of the American cause and wanted only
the absolute best for the newly founded society. Being the truly selfless and righteous man he was,
Franklin wrote an autobiography, not as an ostentatious or conceited act, but as a guideline for other
Americans to follow him on the route to self improvement. Franklin recounts his hardships and
triumphs to tell the story of how a man can make anything of himself as long as puts his mind to it and
keeps progressing forward.
Benjamin Franklin was born January 17, 1706 in Boston. Franklin was the youngest son of seventeen
children. Being the baby of the family didn t come with the benefits it does now. In this time period,
the youngest son did not inherited little if anything. Unfortunate for Franklin he never inherited
anything throughout his lifetime. At the age of eight

The Writer s Duty Of William Faulkner s Nobel Prize...
Addie Champlin
English II AP
Dr. Payne
September 9 2016
The Writer s Duty In William Faulkner s Nobel Prize acceptance speech, he speaks about the true
purpose of writing and the importance of genuinely putting your heart into your work. He discusses
how the only way writing can truly be valuable is if the author is dedicated to showing the authentic
love the human spirit holds and what that love is capable of accomplishing. A good piece of writing
will show both strength and vulnerability and will not be written for fame or recognition. It will be
written for the sake of creating and spreading a message that is important to the author. In their
memoirs, An American Childhood and The Road from Coorain, Annie Dillard and Jill Ker Conway,
both feel very strongly about their purpose for writing. Conway tends to express her reasons for
writing explicitly, while Dillard chooses to do it more implicitly.
In An American Childhood by Annie Dillard, she clearly demonstrates the meaning of the novel in one
passage that reads, Children wake up and find themselves here, discover themselves to have been here
all along; is this sad? They wake like sleepwalkers, in full stride; they wake like people brought back
from cardiac arrest or from drowning: in medias res, surrounded by familiar people and objects,
equipped with a hundred skills. They know the neighborhood, they can read and write English, they
are old hands at the commonplace mysteries, and yet they feel themselves to have just

Essay on Victorian Era Ideologies
The Victorian era which lasted during the reign of Queen Victoria from 1837 to 1901, established the
foundations of many social, cultural and moral ideologies in which many are present to this day.
Everywhere you look you can almost always see something Victorian inspired from floral patterned
curtains to elegantly hand crafted candlesticks. When visualizing The Victorian Era lavish balls, lace
covered dresses, tea parties and fancy lifestyles come to mind. However, the Victorian era is much
more than this. Victorians were judgmental, proud and often selfish people, as their biggest goal in life
was usually to make and/or keep a name for themselves which meant marrying their daughters off to
rich, aristocrats to preventing their family ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The film expresses themes of romance, reputation and class. The Bennet family is middle upper class
they live in a large, lavish country house. The Bingley s live in a vast manor with very expensive
looking furnishings. They have many servants and the house is very clean unlike the Bennet s which is
cluttered and crowded with loose belongings. When Elizabeth goes to visit her sister, Jane, at the
Bingley s manor she arrives in muddy skirts due to walking in the rain. However, she appears callous
to the fact that Caroline Bingley is appalled by her un ladylike attire, stating to Darcy She looked
positively medieval . Elizabeth is a bold, proud and spirited young woman who believes in marrying
for love rather than reputation or social climbing. Elizabeth s pride causes her to misjudge Mr Darcy
based on his unsocial attitude while Darcy s prejudice towards Elizabeth s poor social standing blinds
him from her virtues. Despite their mutual dislike at first, Darcy and Elizabeth fall in love; implying
that Austen views love as something independent of social forces, something two individuals can
capture if they escape the vortex of hierarchical society. Austen also voices a more realistic even
cynical view on love when Elizabeth s friend Charlotte marries Mr Collins, the pompous but wealthy
clergyman which demonstrates the heart does

The Current Unsettled Job Market From Millennials Time...
At least two potential outcomes should be investigated that could result during the current unsettled
job market from Millennials time shotten traveling, volunteering, working as interns, or pursuing
sophisticated degrees outcomes that may have implications for the organizations in which they
ultimately find employment. First, as a terminate of these experiences, Millennials may develop
greater awareness of the world around them. During these experiences they are likely to have had
exposure to cultural diversity, to have developed greater empathy for lower socioeconomic
populations, and to wax advocates for pressing societal issues (Pew Research Center 2007). When
Millennials eventually enter organizations, as a result of these ... Show more content on

Much of the virtual commonness, peculiarly white boards, chat rooms, and bulletin boards, are
regulated by organizers who post guidelines and an agreement of purpose. By respecting and
following these guidelines, your contributions will be more meaningful. As a meaningful contributor
to the virtual community, you will found price in the eyes of the organizers. The establishment of
business rapport in the virtual arena can result in business opportunities, services, and negotiations.
Let your actions and contributions reflect your hypostatic tactics and opportunities may be opened to
you.
Most of the time to share the information within the team, expectation is one of the main substitute.
Unless you know the person with whom you are practical it is stern to tell what kind of character is
that resource. Building a trust is easier when resources employment together as you could know the
person s feeling when you talk with them directly. If the resource is working from a unrelated place, it
is hard to see the reaction of that resource. In my work exercise when I worked with unrelated
employees many set, I think to myself whether it is accurate to share this advice or not, because I do
not know the person s personality with whom I am working.

One that is not based on blood intimacy like the ideals of her rural family. One that allowed her to face away from the pulsing heat of the sun and explore the magic land where men were dominant and creative. However, it is a dream that she may never achieve. Since he used literary devices such as Irony and juxtaposition, it allowed him to characterize the woman and capture her situation. The juxtaposition was created by the description of the two types of men. In the story both men share a common trait of power. However, lawrence began to further explain how The vicar moved in worlds beyond where her own menfolk existed. Whereas the vicar, dark and dry and small beside her husband had yet a quickness and a range of being made Brangwen, in his large geniality, seem dull and local (Lawrence). This explains the difference between the two men. This explains how the woman s husband is strong and has a deep connection with the earth. Her husband does not need a lot to make himself happy and is content with his limited knowledge that allows him to work the land. The other description was of the vicar who was satisfied with small, clean and was capable of doing multiple task. Parents affect their children s views on many topics concerning various aspects, and it seems as if China s parents have created a negative outlook on teenage pregnancy. China says, I will never be like those breeders that bring their puffed up squalling little red faced babies to class (Boyle 558). Her negative outlook has obviously been skewed as she believes teens become pregnant based off of their own choice and not the product of chance. She does not seem to understand that all the right steps can be taken to avoid pregnancy when having sex, but still the woman can become pregnant. Her take on this subject can be attributed to believing the views of her privileged community, families who have never been affected by teen pregnancy, and therefore, can not give an accurate representation of their lives or how teen pregnancy may have helped their life for the better. The quote shows her naive nature as the education on teen pregnancy does not seem evident, but instead the words of her parents and those unaffected by teen pregnancy and taken in and believed. Her view on pregnancy, of course, can be attributed to why she never told her parents or anyone that she was pregnant. Now she appears as a hypocrite as she is the one who is a ... Mark Twain s novel, Pudd nhead Wilson and Those Extraordinary Twins is a critical analysis of how nature and nurture can cultivate emotions and free will, which in turn affects the life of individuals. • 10. The Causes Of Wealth Inequality In America Grace Ogunkunle Prof. D. Fozouni English 102 (SBVC) Research Paper Dec 8, 2017. Wealth Gap In America Americans today live in a distinctly unequal society. Inequality is now wider than it used to be in the last century, and the division in income, wages, and wealth are broader than they are in other developed economies of the world. Wealth inequality is the imbalance of wealth or income within a society, and it is one of the most vital economic challenge the US is facing today because the distribution of wealth is more dispersed, making the inequality in wealth distribution at its highest. While the matter has been discussed for many years, the actual income disparity in the U.S. has heightened and is now verging on an extreme gap that portends to impede long term economic growth. The huge gap between the wealthy and poor is squeezing the U.S. economy, the wealth gap threatens economic growth by diminishing social mobility and producing a less educated workforce who are not able to compete in the global economy. unrestrained level of income inequality causes political pressures, it discourages trade, investment, and hiring. The present level of income inequality in the U.S. is shrinking GDP growth, and the world s largest economy is struggling to recover from the Great Recession. Wealth inequality has become a hot topic in recent years, this is because the return rate on capital, such as stocks or real estate, outruns that of economic growth which resulted in the wealthiest grasping a growing share of wealth, leading to increasing inequality. The unequal distribution of wealth has been a major hallmark of the U.S economy, and among its most notable and lasting results, but until it was brought to the awareness of the public by the Occupy movement s catch phrase referring to the 1% of the populace who control half of the nation s wealth, this issue had not been brought to the limelight of public economic and political discourse since the Great Depression of the 1930s, and almost every American is basically unaware of the true magnitude and character of the unequal distribution of wealth in our country. E. Hinton. It is found under young adult fiction and crime film/ teen film. This book is about to rival gangs the greasers and the sos. The greasers are a group of lower class boys who come from bad homes. They rely on only each other for support and friendship. On the other hand, the sos are a group of upper class kids who get everything they want they don t really ever hear the word no. They own nice things and come from nice fancy houses with nice cars and lots of money. The book is very different from the movie because certain scenes are cut out and some scenes and words exchanged between characters are altered. The first difference between the movie and the book is in the movie Darry pushed Ponyboy during an argument about why Ponyboy got home so late. In the book, after Ponyboy returns home late Darry is furious and slaps Ponyboy, Ponyboy runs and finds Johnny in hopes of running away. But in the movie Darry pushes Ponyboy instead of slapping him, Ponyboy was already tired of how Darry picks on him all the time. So when Darry pushes him it sets him over the edge. This was an effective change because in the movie when the couch fell and it made the audience more mad at Darry. In the book that never happened so it wasn t as dramatic and entertaining. • 12. The Effect Of Chlorofluorocarbon And... Chlorofluorocarbon and hydrochlorofluorocarbon refrigerants have been widely used in traditional cooling systems. These refrigerants accelerate the depletion of the Earth s ozone layer. Therefore, adsorption air conditioning technology attracted much attention recently as an alternative solution due to its advantage of environmental friendliness. This system as it powered by waste and/or solar heat can help to reduce required energy and thermal pollution. This paper presents an overview of research which have been carried out on adsorption cooling systems powered by waste heat from automobiles. Many adsorption pairs have been studied. Zeolite water as a working adsorption pair has been widely used in automobile adsorption cooling systems. This pair has been powered by exhaust gases from the engine due to its relatively high working temperature. Silica gel water pair has been also widely used in automobile adsorption cooling systems. It has been powered by waste heat from water coolant in the engine due to its relatively low working temperature. Results show that this technology can help in increasing overall engine efficiency and reduce thermal pollution from engines. Various modifications in adsorption cooling systems are still required. One of the bottlenecks which prevents the improvement of adsorption cooling technology is its relatively low performance compared to conventional vapor mechanical compression technologies. 2015 Elsevier Ltd. • 16. Martin Luther And The Protestant Reformation In the early days of November 10, 1483, Martin Luther was born in Eisleben, Saxony, in modern southeast Germany and it was an extremely tense world. But on the other hand great changes were waiting around the corner, and Luther too, would take a part in these changes. On October 31, 1517, Martin Luther, angry with Pope Leo X s new round of indulgences to help build St. Peter s Basilica, nailed a sheet of paper with his 95 Theses on the University of Wittenberg s chapel door. Martin Luther was a German monk who began the Protestant Reformation in the 16th century, becoming one of the most influential and controversial figures in Christian history. Luther called into question some of the basic tenets of Roman Catholicism, and his followers soon split from the Roman Catholic Church to begin the Protestant tradition. The first few years of monastic life were difficult for Martin Luther, as he did not find the religious enlightenment he was seeking. A mentor told him to focus his life exclusively on Christ and this would later provide him with the guidance he sought. At age 27, Luther was given the opportunity to be a delegate to a Catholic church conference in Rome. He came away more disillusioned, and very discouraged by the immorality and corruption he witnessed there among the Catholic priests. A child may say that a hero is someone who performs valiant deeds. Merriam Webster Dictionary itself has 3 definitions of a hero: a person who is admired for great or brave deeds or acts, a person who is greatly admired and the chief male [or female] in a story, play, movie etc. (Merriam Webster Dictionary). In a literary situation, a hero is defined as one with certain traits that follows the epic hero cycle. The epic hero cycle is a common literary tool used throughout the ages in famous epics, such as The Iliad and The Odyssey. It follows a simple pattern; a strong person, usually male and of noble birth, journeys on a long and treacherous quest, encountering many mythical beings along the way, and usually hitting a snag before their victory. John Milton s Paradise Lost follows the exact same pattern, except with a character no one would expect: Satan. Satan exhibits many of the traits an epic hero while at the same time following the traditional epic cycle. Although he is not seen as a hero by many, Satan is indisputably the hero of Paradise Lost who follows the epic cycle down to the last detail: he is a powerful supernatural being of noble birth that is tasked with a long and treacherous quest and tested within that quest before his victory. • 23. Immigrants As A Better Life For Their Future All people are diverse and come from many backgrounds. Most people settled here in America as an immigrant to start a better life for their future generations and for opportunities. Most people came here with nothing but bringing along their cultures, knowledge, beliefs and behaviors which they can be shared amongst others in groups and society. In society, starting with the earlier generation there was always shared culture of classes, although everyone portrays immigrants as the lowest status. They are always disliked particularly for coming here as an immigrant, even though most of their backgrounds or their parent s background statuses were very much similar whether they want to admit it or not. It s how they hold themselves in society. People are divided into different classes and treated differently. Most immigrants have to settle in, adapting to the American lifestyle, whether they like it or not, they ll have to blend in and start off with low paying jobs and making new friends. Adapting to lifestyle, the choice of food and to how they communicate. It is always harder for immigrants to unite with everyone since people are so strict against immigrants; they judge them as outcasts by what they eat, what they wear and especially how one communicates. Some of the examples of Organizational Citizenship are as follows: Assisting coworkers: An employee can take time from their work to help another to get their job done, as they know it s important to the company and to the other employee. We have all potentially had situations where others pitched in to get a job done that had nothing to do with their specific job, outside of wanting to help the company and a fellow worker. Working for the future: So many employees look at what they are going to get right now and do not look far into the future. Homecoming is a great deal to heroes in the ancient epics, as it is the final step to claiming their kleos (glory). Homer uses this as his main theme in his epic poem the Odyssey, as it shows the main character Odysseus yearning to return home to Ithaca after twenty years of being away. The poem portrays Odysseus journey home, however, during his journey he is constantly driven off course. After ten years, with the help of his main protector, the goddess Athena, Odysseus finally makes it back home to Ithaca where he reclaims his identity. Later in 19BC, Vergil who was a roman poet, uses nostos as one of the themes in his epic poem the Aeneid. The poem portrays the main character Aeneas as a dutiful hero, who has to flee his home, Troy, and is destined to found Rome (Verg. Aen.1.1). Odysseus and Aeneas nostos are both similar in the sense that they encounter some of the same sights, they leave behind woman in order to continue on with their journey and they deal with supernatural forces. On the contrary, the two heroes are completely different in their motivation. Aeneas reason for his journey is due to his destiny and duty to establish home for his people. Many authors consider this kind of literature itself as an example of modern art because it can become an anti realist protest and a rebellion of the imagination against the reduction of fiction to the analysis of contemporary habits (Lima 80). The painter introduces the portrait in the Oval Portrait by Edgar Allen Poe as overwhelming to him. The painter changes his behavior by no longer seeing his wife as his wife rather as an image through the lens of his painting. This idea of a portrait can be signified as a curse. A curse that plays with the Pyncheon s and the painter s emotions. Addie Champlin English II AP Dr. Payne September 9 2016 The Writer s Duty In William Faulkner s Nobel Prize acceptance speech, he speaks about the true purpose of writing and the importance of genuinely putting your heart into your work. He discusses how the only way writing can truly be valuable is if the author is dedicated to showing the authentic love the human spirit holds and what that love is capable of accomplishing. A good piece of writing will show both strength and vulnerability and will not be written for fame or recognition. It will be written for the sake of creating and spreading a message that is important to the author. In their memoirs, An American Childhood and The Road from Coorain, Annie Dillard and Jill Ker Conway, both feel very strongly about their purpose for writing. Conway tends to express her reasons for writing explicitly, while Dillard chooses to do it more implicitly. In An American Childhood by Annie Dillard, she clearly demonstrates the meaning of the novel in one passage that reads, Children wake up and find themselves here, discover themselves to have been here all along; is this sad? They wake like sleepwalkers, in full stride; they wake like people brought back from cardiac arrest or from drowning: in medias res, surrounded by familiar people and objects, equipped with a hundred skills. They know the neighborhood, they can read and write English, they are old hands at the commonplace mysteries, and yet they feel themselves to have just ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When visualizing The Victorian Era lavish balls, lace covered dresses, tea parties and fancy lifestyles come to mind. However, the Victorian era is much more than this. The Bingley s live in a vast manor with very expensive looking furnishings. They have many servants and the house is very clean unlike the Bennet s which is cluttered and crowded with loose belongings. When Elizabeth goes to visit her sister, Jane, at the Bingley s manor she arrives in muddy skirts due to walking in the rain. However, she appears callous to the fact that Caroline Bingley is appalled by her un ladylike attire, stating to Darcy She looked positively medieval . Elizabeth is a bold, proud and spirited young woman who believes in marrying for love rather than reputation or social climbing. Elizabeth s pride causes her to misjudge Mr Darcy based on his unsocial attitude while Darcy s prejudice towards Elizabeth s poor social standing blinds him from her virtues. Despite their mutual dislike at first, Darcy and Elizabeth fall in love; implying that Austen views love as something independent of social forces, something two individuals can capture if they escape the vortex of hierarchical society. Austen also voices a more realistic even cynical view on love when Elizabeth s friend Charlotte marries Mr Collins, the pompous but wealthy clergyman which demonstrates the heart does ...
