Confessional Poetry Essay
Confessional Poetry
I have done it again. One year in every ten I manage it
A sort of walking miracle, my skin Bright as a Nazi lampshade, My right foot
A paperweight, My face featureless, fine Jew linen.
This excerpt comes from the poem Lady Lazarus by Sylvia Plath, one of the most famous and
infamous poets of the 20th century. Many of Plath s poems, such as this one, belong to a particular
school of poetry known as Confessional Poetry. With a distinct style all their own, Plath and her
fellow Confessional poets will be forever remembered for their brutal honesty, emotionality, and the
personal quality of their poems.

Confessional poetry gained its momentum in 1959 with the publication of Robert Lowell s Life
Studies and W.D. Snodgrass s Heart s Needle. Robert Lowell was born in Boston in 1917, and initially
entered the world of poetry by writing formal poems in the style of the New Critics. Although he
received ample praise for his work, Lowell s personal life wasn t so happy he dealt with marital strife
and serious depression, and was hospitalized on a number of occasions. In his mid fifties, he was
influenced by other Confessional poets to delve deeper into his personal experience, and consequently
attempted more autobiographical and free style poems. His poem Man and Wife reflects his marital
troubles when it concludes:
Now twelve years later you turn your back Sleepless, you hold your pillow to your hollows like a
child, your old fashioned tirade loving, rapid, merciless breaks like the Atlantic Ocean on my head.
This poem nicely reflects the autobiographical aspect of Confessional poetry, as anyone aware of
Lowell s personal life would realize how true the words ring. Poems filled with so much genuine
emotion help to bring the reader into an empathic position, and to actually imagine being in the
speaker s situation.
W.D. Snodgrass was born in Pennsylvania in 1926. His book Heart s Needle won the Pulitzer Prize

Literary Analysis Of The House Of Mirth
House of Mirth is a novel that revolves on Lily Bart trying to find a husband in order to have a
successful life and gives a glimpse to upper class society in the late 1800s and early 1900s. For the
first passage, Selden ponders on Lily Bart. For the second passage, Lily talks to Gerty about her true
intentions of marriage when Lily is distressed about her current state and the choices she has made.
Through a close reading of the two passages, the diction, grammatical elements, and poetic devices
utilized in these passages help unearth the hidden messages of those passages. For the first passage,
through diction, the passage sheds new light. The words no less conscious convey that Selden was not
less aware about what people talked about Lily after getting to know Lily better through their talks at
his flat and Bellomont. The words the woman he knew indicate the version of Lily which Selden has
seen a glimpse of, which is Lily s true self. The vulgar estimate of her indicates the version of Lily
that most of her friends perceive. However, they fail to perceive Lily s true self, since Lily attempts a
façade in public. Another phrase is ... wisdom of the world seemed a groping thing... The words
wisdom of the world refers to the righteous judgment of society. The act of groping in this context
signifies to search with uncertainty according to the Merriam Webster dictionary. The words Selden
was in impassioned self absorption indicate Selden was engrossed

Improper Reinforcement Research Paper
Improper Reinforcement What is improper reinforcement? Improper reinforcement is simply defined,
as reinforcing behaviors under certain circumstances and not reinforcing them under other
circumstances. When teaching a child to follow certain behaviors you have to have a method of
reinforcement whether it be positive or negative. It is always good to have a discipline method. The
proper thing to do is the proper thing to do, so to speak. Just because a child can talk doesn t mean she
s able to problem solve or attach the right words to what she s feeling, so she may try to get what she
wants by other means. Like hitting, kicking another child or pushing.
You have to properly reinforce this behavior. Detour the child from the situation

Taiwan s Economic Impact On The Economy
Taiwan s economy ranked the 20th largest in the world in 2014 on a purchasing power basis, and 26th
in nominal terms according to IMF data. IMF projected Taiwan s economy to rank 21th on a
purchasing power basis and 22rd in nominal terms in 2016. Its economy is well developed and it s
growing at a stable rate. Since 1992, Taiwan s GDP growth has an average 4.5%. Its GDP per capita
raised from $9,116 in 1992 to $19,762 in 2012. Taiwan has experienced rapid expansion in
international trade. In 1992, Taiwan s total trade was over $180 billion and represented 82% of GDP.
In 2012, Taiwan s trade was over $650 billion and represented 140% of GDP. In 2012, over 77% of
Taiwan imports were of agricultural goods and raw materials due to limited arable land and natural
resources. While only around 1% of exports were from agricultural goods, the rest 99% of exports
were from industrial sector (Meltzer, 2014). Therefore, agricultural goods are highly demanded in
Taiwan.
Politically, Taiwan was under the control of the Kuomingtang(KMT) after world war II.
Kuomingtang(KMT) is the Nationalist Party which ruled both mainland China and Taiwan.
After defeat by Communist party in the Chinese Civil War, Kuomingtang(KMT) retreat to Taiwan in
1949 and instituted dictatorship in Taiwan and ruled it under martial law until 1987. Afterwards, a
series of constitutional reforms transformed Taiwan into a vibrant democracy. In 2000,

Budgetary Control As An Assessment Tool

The notion of implead flexibility associated practice of budgetary control will be analysed. Control

If the budget is inaccurate use budgetary control can be irrelevant and costly to the firm, in the short

There are also behavioural problems associated with budgetary control (Demski and Feltham, 1978,
page 336) states that the dysfunctional behaviour thy may induce are well known , they being
budgetary control. In terms of budgets that are inflexible, (Jones, 2006, page 94) speaks of managers
using creative budgeting by creating slack in the system to give themselves leeway this is a way to
mitigate shocks to the business, especially in am an unpredictable environment. This may not be
ethical but mangers see it as a necessary evil, as their use of the budget tend to be used as a means of
assessment and evaluation. As they fight to control the budget, they also fight to maintain their jobs
and current position within the firm. Therefore this unsavoury behaviour is created by the use of
budgetary control, and where the business environment is unpredictable this behaviour, can become
even more damaging to the business as a whole and not just the department itself. It also creates a use
it or lose it mentality that encourage managers to spend their entire budget to avoid a reduction in
resources (Whitecotten et al, 2013, page 328). This unnecessary spending again is costly to the
business, as

Clothing and Dress Recollections for Self and Others
1. What is your earliest recollection of your own clothing? Do you remember a specific item of
clothing, or a general awareness of clothing? Was there a specific activity or event associated with
your earliest clothing recollection?
The earliest recollection I have of my own clothing is when I was approximately nine (9) years old. It
was around this time that my parents marriage was horrifically falling apart before my eyes. I found
solace and happiness in reading books and flipping through fashion magazines. I was also beginning
to be aware of myself, my physical body and shape, who I was, what was going on in my life, and

I feel I am my own person and have my own style, but I do realize we all are influenced in some way
or another by friends, family, or public figures. People I admire in the fashion sense are anyone with
simple, chic, and elegant style that can be translated into everyday fashion. I frequently glance through
a handful of style blogs and I am drawn to an effortless look. I will mentally take into account an
outfit I see, translate it for my own life and circumstances, and put my own spin on it. I
wholeheartedly appreciate French fashion and will check in on icons such as Ines de la Fressange,
Juliette Binoche, Marion Cotillard, and Caroline de Maigret to see how they are styling their outfits.
Paris has had an international affect on fashion with Elsa Schiaparelli being one of the European
trendsetter s in the 1930s who focused on the shoulders of garments. She widened the silhouette at the
shoulders and added accents like braids, pleats, and/or padding. On the other hand, even though I do
not dress gregariously, I do like to see folks with that enormous love of fashion and huge amount of
flair for style. One of my favorite Instagram accounts to scroll through is Ari Seth Cohen s
advancedstyle (2016). There are pictures of older people with so much confidence, uniqueness,
fashion, and style. It is inspiring and motivating to see the older ladies still dressing up and makes me

Freedom Speech
By not allowing speech that is racially bigoted or offensive on campus we are sending the message
that that behavior and ideology is not accepted in the public sphere, we are not allowing it to become a
norm, and are thus discouraging and alienating those that want to use that kind of harmful language.
Delgado writes, When social pressures and rewards for racism are absent.... prejudiced persons may
even refrain from discriminating behavior to escape social disapproval, (148). We can see examples
throughout history of how protecting the free speech of racists and white nationalists has caused injury
to marginalized groups. One such example would be with the court case Village of Skokie v. National
Socialist Party of America; in which Nazi s wanted to hold a peaceful public assembly in the town of
Skokie, Illinois, where the majority of the citizens were of Jewish descent, and at least ten percent
were Holocaust survivors (Adams 277). The Supreme Court of Illinois originally ruled that the Nazi
Party wouldn t be allowed to march or display the swastika, but when the case reached the Court of
Appeals it was decided that this ruling went against the First Amendment. Even though the Court of
Appeals agreed that for the Skokie Villages Jewish community it would be a traumatic experience
seeing the Nazi Party s display, the swastika was considered a form of symbolic speech and therefore
was protected speech (Delgado 134). When we protect hate speech and give white

School officials are given a wide latitude to conduct search and seizures, as compared normal citizens.
The 5th Amendment dictates that, the right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers,

Thusly, individuals have a fundamental right to privacy. In normal society law enforcement officers
cannot search a person property without a warrant or probable cause, an objective determination based
on evidence that a crime has been committed. Probable Cause cannot be meat through hearsay or

physiology and psychology, leading to better treatments for ailments both physical and mental as well

In 1939 an experiment now known as the Monster Study was conducted on 22 orphaned children by
Wendell Johnson, a very influential speech pathologist at the University of Iowa. In this experiment
the orphaned children were divided up into two separate groups. One group was given positive speech
therapy, in which they were praised for their fluency. The other group was given negative speech
therapy. They were belittled for every speech imperfection and told that they were stutterers. Many of
the normal speaking children who were subjected to the negative speech therapy experienced negative
psychological effects and some developed lasting speech impediments. The Tuskegee syphilis
experiment was an experiment conducted by the U.S. Public Health Service between 1932 and 197. In
this experiment, the investigators recruited 399 African American share croppers infected with
syphilis. Their purpose was to study the effects of the untreated disease. In 1932 the standard
treatments for syphilis were toxic and it was questionable whether or not they actually worked. The
goal, at the experiment s beginning, was to determine if a patient was better off without such toxic
treatments. The experimenters also hoped to develop effective methods of treating each stage of
syphilis. They also hoped to be able to justify treatment programs for blacks. However, by 1947

These problems arise from increased pressure on the blood vessels, which put increased pressure on
the arteries and an overall increased pressure on the heart. This may lead to a difficulty in controlling
blood circulation and blood pressure throughout the bodily cells and organs.
Glaucoma
Glaucoma develops when a fluid called aqueous humour within the eyes cannot drain properly and
pressure builds up, known as the intraocular pressure. Under normal circumstances, the fluid would be
drained out of the eyes through tubes. This can damage the optic nerve and also the nerve fibres from
the Retina. The Retina is the layer of light sensitive tissue that lines the back of the eye.
Osteoporosis
Osteoporosis is a condition in which the bones are weakened. It is a change in bone density resulting
from an interference with the regulation of calcium and phosphate metabolism and collagen turnover.
Glucocorticoid therapy results in an increase in the activity of osteoclasts (which digest the bone
matrix) and a reduction in osteoblast activity (which deposits bone matrix).

Factors Influencing Labor Productivity On Building...
Chapter 1: Introduction
Need of the project
Productivity in construction is broadly outlined as output per labor hour. Labor Productivity in any
construction project is units of work placed or produced per labor hour, which directly influences the
total project cost, completion time period and project quality. Hence, it is very crucial for us to have in
detail information of the factors which positively or negatively influences the productivity so that we
can take required action to mitigate the negative effects and reinforce the positive effects. Moreover,
aluminum formwork is the dynamic evolution the construction industry which has been adopted for
advanced construction in various segments, hence its productivity is of utmost important for its
complete acceptance in the industry. This research will focus on determining the factors which
changes the output given by the laborers working with aluminum formwork. This will help in
enhancing the physical progress of the project by applying the tool or remedy subjected to a particular
factor.
Project Objective
The aim of this analysis is to identify factors influencing labor productivity in building construction
with attention on formwork operations and to understand its variations attributable in direct impact on
labor productivity. This research focuses on determining the relationship between various attributes
which effect labor productivity by collecting real time responses from job site. It is to be done by

Gun Violence And The United States Essay
Gun Violence in the United States
For many years there has been a growing controversy between two sides. The side that wants to take
away our right to have firearms and those that want to keep our rights in place. Because of this, gun
violence in the US varies from state to state, depending on current gun laws in each individual state.
States with the toughest gun laws are the states with the highest crime rates because of a victim
inability to protect themselves. One must also remember that Criminals will always have guns and that
safe zones are only safe for criminals. Achieving a delicate balance between owning guns and
criminals having guns is definitely a challenge.
While achieving a balance between a law abiding citizens right to own guns and keeping guns away
from criminals may be challenging, it is something we should all strive for. A victim s inability to
protect themselves or the one s they love, will always be an issue with certain laws. Those laws which
restrict gun ownership would essentially hinder one s ability to protect themselves and leave them
wide open for an attack. We have seen these stories in the news day after day. McDowall states,
Restrictions on carrying concealed weapons are among the most common gun control policies. (193).
When it comes to concealed carry, Mc Dowell states, These statutes limit who may have a deadly
weapon usually a handgun hidden on their person when outside the home. (193). On a daily basis, you

The Opening Speech of Richard III in William Shakespeare s Play
Richard III is a historical play and we are drawn to this factor from Richard s speech at the opening of
the play. Shakespeare uses Richard s character as his main device for setting the scene. As it is a play
the audience would see Richard entering on a bare stage and this alone would leave an effect of them
which would soon be reinforced by the speech he is about to give. The speech itself is delivered in a
soliloquy, a device that is well associated with Shakespeare. It reveals the inner most thoughts of the
character, exposing their true nature and their state of mind.

The speech in itself is a very effective way it is used to arouse the audience in such a way that they are
left with mixed questions and feelings. Such as who Richard is and what has caused his descriptive
outpour. In the course of the speech, Richard says,
I am determined to prove a villain
Quickly the audience is made to believe that evil, is the source of Richard s pleasure and that
At no point in the duration of his speech does Richard hesitate to think or question himself. Which
may show him to be a spontaneous person. As he continues Richard shares his plans quite intimately
and very generously with the audience. He tells us that he has caused trouble between his brothers,
George, Duke of Clarence and King Edward. We are made of Richard s true treacherous nature when
he says,

It shall be a Sabbath of Rest unto you, and ye shall afflict your souls, by a statute for ever.
Just as the tenth day of the seventh month comes on different days of the week, and the tenth day is
known as Sabbath, it stands to reason that there isn t just one Sabbath in every week. Just as the
seventh month and tenth day is to be the day of atonement, (a Sabbath of Rest) and it may fall on
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, or whatever day of the week, there is still a seventh day of the week
(Saturday) Sabbath in that same week.
It was such a Holy day, a Sabbath day, approaching when Jesus was crucified. (John 19:31, KJV). The
Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies shall not remain upon the cross on the
Sabbath day, (for that Sabbath day was a high day), besought Pilate that their legs might be broken,
and that they might be taken away. (KJV). Therefore it stands to reason there were two Sabbath s in
the week of crucifixion: 1) the high day Sabbath, 2) the seventh day of the week, Saturday. With this
in mind, it would be very possible for Jesus to have been Crucified prior to the beginning of

Cloud Computing And Google App Engine Development
Cloud Computing and Google App Engine development
About cloud computing:
Cloud computing is a term coined for a recent trend towards service oriented cluster
computing/processing based on certain SLA and other benefits. It provides simplified and automated
process for configuring, deployment, maintenance and easy process to manage the resources. The
offering of different clouds (Azure, google, AWS etc.) may differ, but what s common among them is
Virtualization and performance isolation for per user/application.
Cloud computing can broadly be classified into 3 broad categories:
Software as a service SaaS describes a system in which high level functionality software as an on
demand is hosted by a cloud and shared to end client using thin client application via internet. The
main feature of SaaS systems is that the API offered to the cloud client is for a complete software
service. The SaaS Cloud provider may charge end user based on number of users or number of
requests hit on hosted API. Example Sales Force.
Platform as a service PaaS refers to the availability of scalable services through an interface from
which restricted network accessible, applications written in high level languages (Java,.net, python
etc.) can be created. Two examples of PaaS systems are Google App Engine (GAE) and Microsoft
Azure.
Infrastructure as a Service IaaS describes a services for provisioning virtualized operating system

Examples Of Gross Profit Costings
Based on the ABC data below are the gross profit margins for each product produced.
ABC is short for activity based costing. Companies follow a two stage process when allocating
indirect costs using ABC. The first stage entails assigning costs to pools based on the activities that
cause the costs to be incurred. The second stage involves allocating the costs in the activity costs pools
to products through the use of a variety of cost drivers. Furthermore, activity based costing generates a
suitable allocation since it disperses the applicable overhead costs to the appropriate products. Also, it
enhances precision in ascertaining the costs of products and services. Therefore, it calls attention to
the need to acquire a better ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the ABC system, there is a variety of cost drivers used. Thus, a different cost driver is used for
each category of overhead cost. Furthermore, with the ABC system, a larger amount of overhead costs
are allocated to OS 367. Therefore, since OS 367 utilizes greater proportions of some of the resources
than other products, the overhead costs for those categories are allocated to OS 367 in larger amounts.
Hence, the total overhead cost per unit increased for OS 367 (Edmonds et al., 2011).
Furthermore, traditional costing does not classify the specific overhead charges or resource used to
fabricate a specific product and distributes costs by assigning average overhead rates. However, ABC
categorizes specific activities employed for producing each individual product and allocates them
based on their consumption of resources. Drilling Innovations used traditional costing, which in turn,
caused them to assign overhead based on machine hours and ignore other overhead activities used to
produce each product. However, by using ABC, the costs were allocated based on the activities used
to produce each individual drilling head. Therefore, the cost was more accurately spread based on the
overhead consumption of each product individually. Costs that were incurred to produce OS 367 were
being allocated to GS 157 and HS 241 with the traditional costing method. Once

He was intermittent, always moving frantically from task to task, building his empire purely on
money, which entirely meant an empire built on his debt, which, again, means an empire built on
accountability which Troy was not. An agribusinessman is a person who works in or manages an
agricultural business. During the time Jayber Crow existed agriculture was all the rage. Family farms
made up 40% of the American workforce. Readers could see why family farming was so important.
So why would people want to bring in top gun machinery and ruin the land for future crops? For
money and growth of themselves, not for the farming industry because in the late 1900s farming
dropped from 40% to a glum 4.6%. Agribusiness arrives and begins to slowly tear apart small farms in
Jayber Crow s world. Even in today s society big businesses tower in our economy. It seems that
agriculture is not given any thought when it comes to making a profit and this tremendous defect in
humans is another reason people can not live just to please and benefit themselves.
People who live to help people and become saints of the land and vow to protect it are the people who
made the land last. Mattie Keith, Troy Chatham s wife is an example of giving with no purpose to
receive unlike big agribusiness men. Jayber several times throughout the novel expresses his great
love for Mattie but what strikes Jayber like a is the fear that he and Troy are the same man

never ending amount of energy to find fame early on the stage. He was an admitted abuser of cocaine,
which he also referred to as Peruvian marching powder and Devil s dandruff in the 1970 s and 80 s,
Anything that makes you paranoid and impotent, give me more of that (Itzkoff n.p.). He openly
addressed his drug habit in his comedy act. Because of his unique style he quickly set himself apart
from other comedians and found himself on television. After a few small roles in other shows Robin
was given his first leading role on Mork and Mindy. While the show only lasted 4 seasons Robin s
refreshing acting style quickly set him apart for all his contemporary s, and this became his first and
most seen acting persona. A man that could talk and act a mile a minute, he would change voices and
break into dance without a second thought and make it seem as if it is completely natural for the
character to do it. Like a magician, he would show you all the flash and showmanship needed to
distract just long enough to pull off an amazing trick. Taking even the most mundane situation and or
story and making it something

Heli Skiing Research Paper
What is Heli skiing?
By Pete Malcolm
Aug 24, 2012
Imagine yourself being ferried by one of those gondolas at a ski resort. You see slopes that look like
totally awesome places to ski. You ask the guide whether you ll be skiing there and he curtly replies
No, and he points you in the other direction where you see natural scenery with a variety of
landscapes. That s where you ll be skiing. So what is heli skiing? It s getting on a helicopter and then
going to that radical wilderness site to ski. No rules, no artificial snow blowers and nobody to tell you
what you can or you can t do. It s about finding that extreme location via a chopper, getting dropped
off and totally going for it.
There are two types of heli skiing, the US/Canadian model and the European model. The US/Canadian
model is pretty much like your normal routine skiing venue, except that your site is way off limits and
practically unfettered by human existence and you get to be brought by the chopper again and again to
your starting point. The chopper is acting like your normal ski lift.
The European model is similar though much more exhausting because of the length of travel that you
have to make. The chopper drops you down on your starting point and then you proceed to meet it at

The foremost reason is that it s possibility not safe. Why? Because the locations you are brought into
are usually remote. Just imagine how difficult it would be to retrieve or rescue people if a mishap
occurs. This is also the reason why most of these excursions also come with the requisite guide. The
guide is not just your friendly advisor, the guide is the one who will point out the best route for you
once you disembark from the chopper. Their designation as guides is brought about by their
familiarity with the terrain and most of all, their professional certification from the International
Federation of Mountain Guide

Royal Caribbean Cruise-Personal Narrative
Vacation is something many people love and look forward to. The ability to put our daily tasks on hold
for a short amount of time in order to clear our minds and reinvigorate ourselves is something that all
people need from time to time. In fact, we all seem to have those times in our life were we get a week
or two off to have the time of our lives. One particular experience that I had impacted me in two
primary ways. This experience was when I took a Royal Caribbean Cruise in the Gulf of Mexico.
Strangely enough, this experience impacted me in two completely opposite, and nearly paradoxical,
ways. Truthfully, what I took away from my Royal Caribbean Cruise would be considered by many to
be the opposite of what they would expect. It was the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After everyone was loaded, we were off on our little tram that would, theoretically, take us to the
beach. As we started to put some distance between the tourist trap, and ourselves we finally caught a
glimpse of the beach that we were to spend our day at. However, as we drew closer to the beach, we
noticed another flock of salesmen who were, like the ones in the tourist trap, very happy to see us. Our
tram, nowhere near fast enough to outrun these ambitious salesmen, was littered by these locals with
crude, homemade leaflets advertising local restaurants and was badgered to buy everything from straw
hats to

William Shakespeare s Julius Caesar Essay
Power is a highly coveted mistress. She is sought after by senators, presidents, kings, and emperors.
Most of them willing to do whatever it takes to get her. The history of this world is overrun with
conflict and war as different parties compete for her hand. There are those that will obtain her by
physical force on the battlefield, while others seduce her to their side through sweet persuasion.
However, the act of obtaining power is nothing compared to the work of keeping her. Power is an
unfaithful mistress, in need of constant wooing. In William Shakespeare s Julius Caesar, the battle for
power is always in a state of flux, constantly changing hands. Though the players in this play
sometimes use physical force to obtain power, it is persuasion and manipulation that have the strong
hold on her. Through close examination of this text, the use of persuasion and manipulation in
obtaining and maintaining power will be explored. When the play first opens there is a celebration in
the streets because Julius Caesar has proven victorious over Pompey in battle. However, this action is
quickly rebuffed by tribunes Flavius and Marullus, who are quick to remind the plebeians that they
once loved Pompey:
O you hard hearts, you cruel men of Rome,
Knew you not Pompey? Many a time and oft
Have you climbed up to walls and battlements
To towers and windows, yea, to chimney tops,
Your infants in your arms, and there have sat
The livelong day, with patient expectation,
To see great Pompey

Confrontation Clause
In the United States criminal justice system, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
With this concept in mind, the accused are given many rights to a fair trial. One of those rights falls
under the sixth amendment in the United States Constitution. The confrontation clause reads, In all
criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right...to be confronted with the witnesses against
him. West s Encyclopedia of American Law defines the confrontation clause as, A fundamental right
of a defendant in a criminal action to come face to face with an adverse witness in the court s presence
so the defendant has a fair chance to object the testimony of the witness, and the opportunity to cross
examine him or her (Lehman ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The court treats sex abuse cases, where young children are victims differently. In 1990, the case
Maryland v. Craig permitted young children to testify by the use of one way, closed circuit televisions
out of the courtroom, under certain circumstances. The Supreme Court concluded that children s
psychological well being outweighed the accused entitlement to face to face confrontation (Parise,
1991, p. 1099).
In the past few years several cases have enforced a more comprehensive meaning to the confrontation
clause. Such cases are Crawford v. Washington, Melendez Diaz v. Massachusetts, and Davis v.
Washington. In 2004, the landmark case Crawford v. Washington, involved an assault where the
defendant Michael Crawford, got into an altercation involving a knife with another male over his wife.
During the arrest, the police taped both Michael and his wife statements. The prosecution used his
wife s damaging statement, as she was unwilling to testify against her husband, during his trial and
Crawford was convicted (Friedman, p. 440). Subsequently, the case made it to the United States
Supreme Court and they overturned the 1980 decision in Ohio v. Roberts. Justice Scalia wrote, Out of
court statements were admissible only when the witness was unavailable to testify and the defendant
had been able to cross examine the witness on a previous occasion (Supreme Court: Right to Confront
Witnesses Strengthened, 2004). Under the Crawford ruling

Symbolism In The Faerie Queene
Intentions of The Faerie Queene In The Faerie Queene , Spencer Edmund produces an allegory. His
intention was to relate England in the 1590s to a mythical land in which each character had a symbolic
meaning as well as the events they were undergoing. He lived in an era where Roman Catholicism was
replaced with Protestantism and he dedicated himself to unconsciously teach and educate his readers
the Catholic Church was corrupted and was the wrong religion to follow. For this reason, he gave each
character a common role who would relate to anyone in England and showed the readers how his role
in the story symbolized good or evil. The themes he expressed in his books talked about his
interpretation in religion, politics, symbolism, and his dedication to make his allegory as influential as
possible. As mentioned before, Spencer s feelings about Catholicism were extremely important
because in time, England s religious beliefs represented the aspects and motivations of the good and
evil. Being the reason why England separated from the Catholic church and formed the Protestant
Church, since they defined Catholicism to be evil and dirty. This is when he decided to share his
beliefs and write several books that could be interpreted to reveal a hidden moral message. It was a
genius idea because he described the protagonists to be knights and princesses as protestants, and the
antagonists to be evil snakes and the devil himself that symbolized the Catholic Church. It is typical to

Thus, the use and importance of mobile advertising is likely to grow in the future.
It is unlikely that mobile technology will be rich enough to support the amount of content or the
quality of visual we associate with print or electronic media advertising.
More likely, it will take the form of short text messages intended to inform, remind, or notify
consumers. Thus, it can best be used to support relationships with existing customers rather than to be
used to attempt to acquire new consumers (Perlado Barwise, in press). For example, mobile
advertising may help to remind consumers to make a purchase or to provide information for
immediate consumer decisions.
Perhaps the major advantage of mobile advertising is that it is able to reach people at exactly the
moment they are making purchase decisions. For example, it can be used to provide information about
sales promotions at the time of purchase to help sway consumer choices for parity products.
Short Messaging Advertising
In the United States, there is not yet sufficient text messaging ads or text messaging to cause service
disruptions. Only recently have the major wireless carriers agreed to let their customers send text
messages to one another (Shachtman, 2002).
Competing standards (global system for mobile communications versus code division multiple
access), fragmented systems, and lack of variety in calling plans are all cited as reasons for the lower
per capita use of

Religion And Politics Postman Summary
I think you summarized the aspects Postman touched perfectly about how television infiltrates our
daily lives through religion, politics and education. I like most especially your point on how
politicians are in the public eye. Postman s claim about the view of politicians could not be described
better. The television has a huge impact on our political process. Postman asserts that the characters of
TV commercials are the partial cause of this since they are the vital analogies for political discourse in
the U.S. He says commercials weaken capitalism (our economic system). He says by synthesizing
desires rather than giving products to meet genuine needs, commercials destroy what is important for
capitalism to work. For capitalism to work,

Proposed Merger Of Us Airways And American Airlines
INTEROFFICE MEMORANDUM
TO: CHRISTOPHER CARRIGAN, ASSISTANT ATTORNEY GENERAL, ANTITRUST DIVISION,
DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE
FROM: JULIAN HOFFMAN, ECONOMIC ANALYST
SUBJECT: PROPOSED MERGER OF US AIRWAYS AND AMERICAN AIRLINES
DATE: JULY 15, 2013 Executive Summary
This memo is in response to your request for an analysis of the economic implications of the potential
merger of US Airways Group and the AMR Corporation (parent company of American Airlines), plans
for which were announced in February of this year. While US Airways Group is currently operating
normally, AMR Corporation is under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection due to a lack of profit, putting
it in a precarious business situation. This proposed merger is AMR Corporation s proposed path out of
bankruptcy, and one which both airlines claim could result in more than $1.5 billion in additional
revenues and cost savings on an annual basis. (Wall Street Journal, 2012)
This proposed merger would create the largest airline in the United States by market share, with a
combined 21.2% of the domestic market using pre merger market share levels (see Figure 1). The
proposed merger would also bring the total number of major domestic airlines down to four: Delta,
United, Southwest and the proposed new airline. These major domestic carriers would combine to
control roughly 69% of the market, a dominant position.
Any thorough economic analysis of the proposed merger has to focus in on this critical issue: the risk
of having too few

The Story Of An Hour And The Awakening Feminist Analysis
At the end of 19th century, American society presented an ideology of patriarchy. Feminists struggle
for the equality and discrimination against female. As feminist movement started, lots of female
writers were explored. One of the most famous writers is Kate Chopin. Her works mostly present a
theme of women pursue freedom and equality. The Story Of An Hour and The Awakening are her
representative works. In these two works, Kate Chopin reveals how women lived under the oppression
of male dominated society, especially for women who got married. They were not financially
independent and their freedom and rights were deprived. Therefore female were forced to be an angle
in the home . Both challenge the preconception that women can only be a housekeeper and marriage is
the only way out.
The Story of an Hour was narrated by the third person. The main character Mrs. Mallard is a
housewife and she has a heart trouble. Her Husband dies in a railroad disaster. When she heard the
news, she did not hear the story as many women have heard the same, with a paralyzed inability to
accept its significance. She wept at once, with sudden, wild abandonment, in her sister s arms (Pg 93).
She did not cry out immediately, she seems shocked for a while and suddenly break out. From my
opinion, she isn t shocked, she is surprised. She is not just cry for the death of Mr. Mallard, but also
for the free life that she s going to live. She has been trapped and pressed for so long. Husband s

Essay on Analysing the Recent Economic Recession and Its...
The business cycle is the short run alternation between economic downturns and economic upturns
(Investopedia n.d.). A recession is an economic downturn and happens in every country and some
recessions are worse than others and the output of GDP and employment are falling farther and faster.
The great depression lasted from 1929 1933 and was a deep prolonged downturn in the business cycle
before a recovery/expansion of the business cycle occurred and GDP and employment started to rise
(Krugman Wells. 2012). The next recession lasted from 1981 1982 and was comparatively smaller
than the first (Krugman Wells. 2012). More recently in 2001 a slump in the economy was noted and
was followed by the great rescission of 2007 2009 (Krugman ... Show more content on

An examples of the circular cash flow model is demonstrated in figure 21 6.
Firms produce output and then pay income to households and households then use this income to buy
goods expenditure (Pettinger. n.d.).
Unemployment Rate Labor Force Participation Rate Labor force is the amount of people who are
employed and currently have a job and the people who are unemployed and currently do not have a
job (Krugman Wells. 2012). The labor force participation rate is calculated with people sixteen years
of age and older that are employed, while the unemployment rate is measured by the percent of the
total number of people sixteen years of age and older who do not have a job (Krugman Wells. 2012).
The United States assigns the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) with the task of tracking the
employment and unemployment rate of the labor force in the United States (BOOK). The BLS breaks
down the unemployment and labor rate much farther than just how many are working and not working
and breaks the cart down to race, age, gender, and level of schooling from no high school diploma to
bachelors degree and higher for the year along with many other statistics and ways to track the
populations work force (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. n.d.). The BLS breaks down the labor force
also by including discouraged workers, who are people that are not working but could work and have

  • 2. Confessional Poetry Essay Confessional Poetry I have done it again. One year in every ten I manage it A sort of walking miracle, my skin Bright as a Nazi lampshade, My right foot A paperweight, My face featureless, fine Jew linen. This excerpt comes from the poem Lady Lazarus by Sylvia Plath, one of the most famous and infamous poets of the 20th century. Many of Plath s poems, such as this one, belong to a particular school of poetry known as Confessional Poetry. With a distinct style all their own, Plath and her fellow Confessional poets will be forever remembered for their brutal honesty, emotionality, and the personal quality of their poems. Confessional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Confessional poetry gained its momentum in 1959 with the publication of Robert Lowell s Life Studies and W.D. Snodgrass s Heart s Needle. Robert Lowell was born in Boston in 1917, and initially entered the world of poetry by writing formal poems in the style of the New Critics. Although he received ample praise for his work, Lowell s personal life wasn t so happy he dealt with marital strife and serious depression, and was hospitalized on a number of occasions. In his mid fifties, he was influenced by other Confessional poets to delve deeper into his personal experience, and consequently attempted more autobiographical and free style poems. His poem Man and Wife reflects his marital troubles when it concludes: Now twelve years later you turn your back Sleepless, you hold your pillow to your hollows like a child, your old fashioned tirade loving, rapid, merciless breaks like the Atlantic Ocean on my head. This poem nicely reflects the autobiographical aspect of Confessional poetry, as anyone aware of Lowell s personal life would realize how true the words ring. Poems filled with so much genuine emotion help to bring the reader into an empathic position, and to actually imagine being in the speaker s situation. W.D. Snodgrass was born in Pennsylvania in 1926. His book Heart s Needle won the Pulitzer Prize ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Literary Analysis Of The House Of Mirth House of Mirth is a novel that revolves on Lily Bart trying to find a husband in order to have a successful life and gives a glimpse to upper class society in the late 1800s and early 1900s. For the first passage, Selden ponders on Lily Bart. For the second passage, Lily talks to Gerty about her true intentions of marriage when Lily is distressed about her current state and the choices she has made. Through a close reading of the two passages, the diction, grammatical elements, and poetic devices utilized in these passages help unearth the hidden messages of those passages. For the first passage, through diction, the passage sheds new light. The words no less conscious convey that Selden was not less aware about what people talked about Lily after getting to know Lily better through their talks at his flat and Bellomont. The words the woman he knew indicate the version of Lily which Selden has seen a glimpse of, which is Lily s true self. The vulgar estimate of her indicates the version of Lily that most of her friends perceive. However, they fail to perceive Lily s true self, since Lily attempts a façade in public. Another phrase is ... wisdom of the world seemed a groping thing... The words wisdom of the world refers to the righteous judgment of society. The act of groping in this context signifies to search with uncertainty according to the Merriam Webster dictionary. • 4. Improper Reinforcement Research Paper Improper Reinforcement What is improper reinforcement? Improper reinforcement is simply defined, as reinforcing behaviors under certain circumstances and not reinforcing them under other circumstances. When teaching a child to follow certain behaviors you have to have a method of reinforcement whether it be positive or negative. It is always good to have a discipline method. The proper thing to do is the proper thing to do, so to speak. Just because a child can talk doesn t mean she s able to problem solve or attach the right words to what she s feeling, so she may try to get what she wants by other means. Like hitting, kicking another child or pushing. You have to properly reinforce this behavior. Detour the child from the situation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Do you remember a specific item of clothing, or a general awareness of clothing? Was there a specific activity or event associated with your earliest clothing recollection? Freedom Speech By not allowing speech that is racially bigoted or offensive on campus we are sending the message that that behavior and ideology is not accepted in the public sphere, we are not allowing it to become a norm, and are thus discouraging and alienating those that want to use that kind of harmful language. Delgado writes, When social pressures and rewards for racism are absent.... prejudiced persons may even refrain from discriminating behavior to escape social disapproval, (148). We can see examples throughout history of how protecting the free speech of racists and white nationalists has caused injury to marginalized groups. One such example would be with the court case Village of Skokie v. National Socialist Party of America; in which Nazi s wanted to hold a peaceful public assembly in the town of Skokie, Illinois, where the majority of the citizens were of Jewish descent, and at least ten percent were Holocaust survivors (Adams 277). The Supreme Court of Illinois originally ruled that the Nazi Party wouldn t be allowed to march or display the swastika, but when the case reached the Court of Appeals it was decided that this ruling went against the First Amendment. Even though the Court of Appeals agreed that for the Skokie Villages Jewish community it would be a traumatic experience seeing the Nazi Party s display, the swastika was considered a form of symbolic speech and therefore was protected speech (Delgado 134). The side that wants to take away our right to have firearms and those that want to keep our rights in place. Because of this, gun violence in the US varies from state to state, depending on current gun laws in each individual state. States with the toughest gun laws are the states with the highest crime rates because of a victim inability to protect themselves. One must also remember that Criminals will always have guns and that safe zones are only safe for criminals. Achieving a delicate balance between owning guns and criminals having guns is definitely a challenge. While achieving a balance between a law abiding citizens right to own guns and keeping guns away from criminals may be challenging, it is something we should all strive for. A victim s inability to protect themselves or the one s they love, will always be an issue with certain laws. Those laws which restrict gun ownership would essentially hinder one s ability to protect themselves and leave them wide open for an attack. We have seen these stories in the news day after day. Christ’s Resurrection Foretold and Witnessed I suppose, since I became a Christian (born again July 31, 1975), I have heard a lot of different opinions concerning different areas and events of the Bible. Of all the topics and points of interest, none has intrigued me as much as the Death, Burial, and Resurrection of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. As you read this study there is one main point that all Christians will agree on. It may not be the day of the week or the hour of the day Jesus died, but we will all agree to the fact that Jesus did arise from the dead and is currently at the right hand of God the Father. You might be a religious person, yet not believe Jesus arose from the dead. That belief would not negate you from being religious, but it would negate a profession ... Just as the tenth day of the seventh month comes on different days of the week, and the tenth day is known as Sabbath, it stands to reason that there isn t just one Sabbath in every week. Just as the seventh month and tenth day is to be the day of atonement, (a Sabbath of Rest) and it may fall on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, or whatever day of the week, there is still a seventh day of the week (Saturday) Sabbath in that same week. It was such a Holy day, a Sabbath day, approaching when Jesus was crucified. (John 19:31, KJV). The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies shall not remain upon the cross on the Sabbath day, (for that Sabbath day was a high day), besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away. (KJV). Therefore it stands to reason there were two Sabbath s in the week of crucifixion: 1) the high day Sabbath, 2) the seventh day of the week, Saturday. Cloud Computing And Google App Engine Development Cloud Computing and Google App Engine development About cloud computing: Cloud computing is a term coined for a recent trend towards service oriented cluster computing/processing based on certain SLA and other benefits. It provides simplified and automated process for configuring, deployment, maintenance and easy process to manage the resources. The offering of different clouds (Azure, google, AWS etc.) may differ, but what s common among them is Virtualization and performance isolation for per user/application. Cloud computing can broadly be classified into 3 broad categories: Software as a service SaaS describes a system in which high level functionality software as an on demand is hosted by a cloud and shared to end client using thin client application via internet. The main feature of SaaS systems is that the API offered to the cloud client is for a complete software service. The SaaS Cloud provider may charge end user based on number of users or number of requests hit on hosted API. Example Sales Force. Platform as a service PaaS refers to the availability of scalable services through an interface from which restricted network accessible, applications written in high level languages (Java,.net, python etc.) can be created. Two examples of PaaS systems are Google App Engine (GAE) and Microsoft Azure. Companies follow a two stage process when allocating indirect costs using ABC. The first stage entails assigning costs to pools based on the activities that cause the costs to be incurred. The second stage involves allocating the costs in the activity costs pools to products through the use of a variety of cost drivers. Furthermore, activity based costing generates a suitable allocation since it disperses the applicable overhead costs to the appropriate products. Also, it enhances precision in ascertaining the costs of products and services. Therefore, it calls attention to the need to acquire a better ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With the ABC system, there is a variety of cost drivers used. Thus, a different cost driver is used for each category of overhead cost. Furthermore, with the ABC system, a larger amount of overhead costs are allocated to OS 367. Therefore, since OS 367 utilizes greater proportions of some of the resources than other products, the overhead costs for those categories are allocated to OS 367 in larger amounts. Hence, the total overhead cost per unit increased for OS 367 (Edmonds et al., 2011). Furthermore, traditional costing does not classify the specific overhead charges or resource used to fabricate a specific product and distributes costs by assigning average overhead rates. However, ABC categorizes specific activities employed for producing each individual product and allocates them based on their consumption of resources. Drilling Innovations used traditional costing, which in turn, caused them to assign overhead based on machine hours and ignore other overhead activities used to produce each product. However, by using ABC, the costs were allocated based on the activities used to produce each individual drilling head. Therefore, the cost was more accurately spread based on the overhead consumption of each product individually. Costs that were incurred to produce OS 367 were being allocated to GS 157 and HS 241 with the traditional costing method. Once ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Jonah Crow, an orphan at the age of ten grew up in the face of adversity he knew the feelings of loneliness and want; seeing as his mother, father, aunt and uncle died leaving him helpless at an orphanage in the town of Port William, Kentucky. An agribusinessman is a person who works in or manages an agricultural business. During the time Jayber Crow existed agriculture was all the rage. Family farms made up 40% of the American workforce. Readers could see why family farming was so important. So why would people want to bring in top gun machinery and ruin the land for future crops? For money and growth of themselves, not for the farming industry because in the late 1900s farming dropped from 40% to a glum 4.6%. Agribusiness arrives and begins to slowly tear apart small farms in Jayber Crow s world. Even in today s society big businesses tower in our economy. It seems that agriculture is not given any thought when it comes to making a profit and this tremendous defect in humans is another reason people can not live just to please and benefit themselves. People who live to help people and become saints of the land and vow to protect it are the people who made the land last. Mattie Keith, Troy Chatham s wife is an example of giving with no purpose to receive unlike big agribusiness men. There are those that will obtain her by physical force on the battlefield, while others seduce her to their side through sweet persuasion. However, the act of obtaining power is nothing compared to the work of keeping her. Power is an unfaithful mistress, in need of constant wooing. In William Shakespeare s Julius Caesar, the battle for power is always in a state of flux, constantly changing hands. Though the players in this play sometimes use physical force to obtain power, it is persuasion and manipulation that have the strong hold on her. The Supreme Court concluded that children s psychological well being outweighed the accused entitlement to face to face confrontation (Parise, 1991, p. 1099). In the past few years several cases have enforced a more comprehensive meaning to the confrontation clause. Such cases are Crawford v. Washington, Melendez Diaz v. Massachusetts, and Davis v. Washington. In 2004, the landmark case Crawford v. Washington, involved an assault where the defendant Michael Crawford, got into an altercation involving a knife with another male over his wife. During the arrest, the police taped both Michael and his wife statements. The prosecution used his wife s damaging statement, as she was unwilling to testify against her husband, during his trial and Crawford was convicted (Friedman, p. 440). Subsequently, the case made it to the United States Supreme Court and they overturned the 1980 decision in Ohio v. Roberts. His intention was to relate England in the 1590s to a mythical land in which each character had a symbolic meaning as well as the events they were undergoing. He lived in an era where Roman Catholicism was replaced with Protestantism and he dedicated himself to unconsciously teach and educate his readers the Catholic Church was corrupted and was the wrong religion to follow. For this reason, he gave each character a common role who would relate to anyone in England and showed the readers how his role in the story symbolized good or evil. The themes he expressed in his books talked about his interpretation in religion, politics, symbolism, and his dedication to make his allegory as influential as possible. As mentioned before, Spencer s feelings about Catholicism were extremely important because in time, England s religious beliefs represented the aspects and motivations of the good and evil. Being the reason why England separated from the Catholic church and formed the Protestant Church, since they defined Catholicism to be evil and dirty. This is when he decided to share his beliefs and write several books that could be interpreted to reveal a hidden moral message. It was a genius idea because he described the protagonists to be knights and princesses as protestants, and the antagonists to be evil snakes and the devil himself that symbolized the Catholic Church. While US Airways Group is currently operating normally, AMR Corporation is under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection due to a lack of profit, putting it in a precarious business situation. Feminists struggle for the equality and discrimination against female. As feminist movement started, lots of female writers were explored. One of the most famous writers is Kate Chopin. Her works mostly present a theme of women pursue freedom and equality. The Story Of An Hour and The Awakening are her representative works. In these two works, Kate Chopin reveals how women lived under the oppression of male dominated society, especially for women who got married. They were not financially independent and their freedom and rights were deprived. Therefore female were forced to be an angle in the home . Both challenge the preconception that women can only be a housekeeper and marriage is the only way out. The Story of an Hour was narrated by the third person. The main character Mrs. Mallard is a housewife and she has a heart trouble. Her Husband dies in a railroad disaster. When she heard the news, she did not hear the story as many women have heard the same, with a paralyzed inability to accept its significance. She wept at once, with sudden, wild abandonment, in her sister s arms (Pg 93). She did not cry out immediately, she seems shocked for a while and suddenly break out.
