Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Research Paper
Ever since I was about 10, I was extremely interested in becoming a neonatal nurse practitioner. I
love babies and love helping others so I figured this particular job could be perfect for me. A
neonatal nurse practitioner means you provide care for newborns in need of specialized attention
for about the first month of their life. These newborns are usually premature or very sick and the
nurse practitioners are usually their primary caregiver. NNP s are responsible for their patients,
exercising judgment when necessary to assess, diagnose, and initiate medical procedures. Many
tasks include monitoring specialized equipment, including incubators and ventilators. Providing
education and support to patients families regarding neonatal, intensive... Show more content on

Now, there are more than 1,500 NICU s in the United States. Personally, I think this job seems
very intriguing. I like that I can be working with babies all the time and improve their lives. I
would basically be getting paid for doing what I love. I also enjoy the fact that I would get to
communicate with the families and keep them informed and updated. The whole idea is so
interesting, I love talking to people and helping others, therefore, I would assume I would like
this job. As of right now, I cannot think of anything I do not like about the job. I recently was
given the number of a lady to contact so I can set up a job shadow with a NICU nurse, I cannot
wait! After researching the career, I discovered the actual salary which seems good, however, I
do not know much about salaries. Also, I learned what kind of schooling is involved which I did
not know before, a master degree is absolutely necessary. My ideas about this career did not
change from what I learned from this assignment. I am still very much interested in getting
involved and maybe pursuing this career just as I had been

Cost And Purpose Of Sales Promotion
1: INTRODUCTION
1.1. Introduction to sales promotion
Meaning and Purpose of Sales Promotion:
Sales promotion consists of all promotional activities other than advertising, personal selling and
publicity that help to increase sales through non repetitive and one time communication. In other
words, it includes marketing activities other than personal selling, advertising, and publicity, that
stimulate consumer purchasing and dealer effectiveness, such as point of purchase displays, shows
and exhibitions, demonstrations and various non recurring selling efforts not in the ordinary
routine. Purpose: The ultimate aim or purpose of sales promotion is that of increasing the volume
of sales and profits but it differs from advertising and personal ... Show more content on

For example, the greater the geographical dispersion of a target market, the greater the
communication expenditure required. Similarly, if an offering is in its early life cycle, there is a
greater need of expenditure. But promotion budget should always justify the tasks to be undertaken.
A basic principle would be the cost and returns of sales promotion tools to be adopted. Hindustan
Lever has its well drawn up sales promotion budget. If any business house does not have its
promotion budget fixed, then promotion programmes will have to be designed to support the
marketing plan.
(vi) Government regulations:
Government has passed various laws and made rules to protect the consumer interest, such as the
prevention of Food Adulteration Act, the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable
Advertisements) Act, and Drugs and Cosmetics Act etc. Sales promotion policy must take into
consideration the government regulations relating to the particular product, e.g. the commodity
rates must be specified on the package and in case of medicines drug contents and date of
manufacturing, date of expire, and price must be

Research Paper On Blended Families
LaTisha Fallin
Mrs. Joy Branch
Sociology 200
16 November 2015
I chose the subject of remarriage because I was always interested in knowing why people would
want to get married all over again. Remarriage is a relationship where two people have gave
themselves to each other in the manner of a husband and wife after another marriage has ended.
Shockingly, more people want to get remarried than I expected. My research showed me a lot of
insight on remarriage.
Remarriage brings about the blended families. Blended families is another way of saying
stepfamilies. Sometimes it can be difficult coming into another family. While the U.S. divorce rate
sits around forty five percent, the blended marriage divorce rate is approximately sixty seven
percent marriages. If the woman or man already have children, the children have to adapt to the
stepmother or stepfather. Being married and staying married in a blended family is a difficult task
to achieve. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is shown that fifty percent of the widowed or divorced have remarried that does not have a
high school degree. More students, adults and young adults are focusing more on studying and
school more than they are focusing getting married or even remarried. Marriage or remarriage is
not a top priority in a high school or college student. ( Remarriage on the Rise in the U.S. U.S.
News World Report.)
Ethnic backgrounds also has an impact on the rate of remarriage. In 2012, whites had a percent
of sixty that remarried. The Hispanics had a twenty one percent of remarriage. The blacks had a
forty eight percent that remarried. The Asian Americans had a forty six percent of remarriage.
The older Americans are the ones who are getting remarried. There is also a gender gap in the
terms of remarriage. In 2013, sixty four percent of men compared to fifty two percent of women
remarry. ( Remarriage on the Rise in the U.S. U.S. News World

The Pros And Cons Of Women
Working outside of the home was rare for women at a time and was wrong if it was done.
Women that did work outside of the home were not taken seriously being seen as less intelligent
than men and less able to cope with stress (Harrington 16). They were physically and
intellectually inferior so women weren t usually allowed to face the outside world (Collins 4 5).
Women were told if they worked, they would be taking jobs away from men that needed to
support their families, but in reality most women who worked did so to support their families as
well (Harrington 17 18). The unemployment rates surpassed men s 4.7% to 2.8% in the 1960s
(Ward 101). It was thought that women had no real ambition to work (Harrington 16). Though it
wasn t typical for a women to work, it was said the poor and single women should work until
they were married (Chafe 21). Even then it was a stretch for a woman to work considering
single women were seen as prey in the workplace (Nies 15). The usual jobs women were stuck
into were teachers, nurses, and secretaries (Kesselman 31). Even if qualified, women couldn t
work high level federal jobs (Nies 46). A lot of the time, women wouldn t even receive credit for
the jobs they did (Povich 78). Not only were women stuck in jobs they didn t enjoy, but they were
also paid less and were not provided with health or retirement benefits (Harrington 18). They were
being denied the right to show potential in what they did and felt restricted because of it (Senker

The Concept Of Incentives And The Way Of Which Humans...
Sandel next adresses the concept of incentives and the way in which humans respond to them.
Individuals act in order to maximize their own welfare and therefore respond things that allow
them to do so; these things are known as incentives. Sandel provides us with the example of
students who where offered financial incentive to do better in school. However the reaction to
the incentives differed from the standard economic model. While paying students who passed
AP exams did increase over all success, the results indicated that the amount of money payed
made no difference in the amount of achievement. While the did serve its purpose as an
incentive, the money did not act as a bribe but rather as an agent that changed the stigma
associated with AP testing making it cool for students to do. While there do exist benefits to
offering incentives, there also exists ramification known as perverse incentives. The notion of
perverse incentives deals with the idea that by placing a market price on a certain act, the
meaning of the act itself may become blurred. Sandel offers the example of fine Vs. fees where
parents would come late to pick up their children from day care and treat the fine for coming late
as a fee for extended service. By placing a market value on the extended time care takers had to
work, parents no longer felt guilty about leaving their child later till later hours and therefore
eroding the original purpose of the fine. At this point Sandel moves to the

Analysis Of The Movie I Chose Silver Linings Playbook
The analysis of the movie I chose was Silver Linings Playbook. This movie was a revamping of
the publication Silver Linings Playbook by Matthew Quick. Patrick, known as Pat throughout
the movie, Solatano, Jr. is portrayed by Bradley Cooper. Although it is unclear what is different
about Pat in the very beginning, the story soon unravels his skeletons in the closet. The opening
scene starts as Pat is being released from the Karel psychiatric facility in Baltimore. Pat was
institutionalized after he walked in on his wife and the history teacher having an affair in the
shower, blacked out, and beat the man nearly to death. He is ordered to attend therapy as part of
his plea bargain and release deal. Even though medication is almost required to treat his condition,
Pat decides it is better to change his outlook on life and find the silver linings, he even shouts his
motto excelsior meaning always upward (Excelsior dictionary definition). To me this meant,
finding the positive in every negative situation. However, even though it sounds good on the
surface, it can also be used as a crutch to fuel self delusion. Pat ends up being set up on a dinner
date in order to get over the fact that his wife has since moved. After the dinner date, Pat finds
himself spending much time with Tiffany, another main character with a mental illness, who he
enters a dance competition with and ends up falling for. This analysis will cover the symptoms

The Conflict Of The Independent Republic Of Azerbaijan
University did not articulate any references to Azeri nationalism in their slogans. Obviously, the
Azeri community is more likely to play a role in determining the future direction of Iran s political
evolution than in igniting an ethnically based separatist movement. Having proven its centuries
long loyalty to the Iranian state and territorial integrity, Azeris are also likely to work within the
current political system to address their grievances. Although the emergence of the independent
Republic of Azerbaijanhas been a source of Azeri ethnic pride, it has not generated popular support
from the Iranian Azeri community to join Azerbaijan. While many Azeris admit to maintaining
cultural bonds with their brethren in the Republic of Azerbaijan, such ties do not translate into
aspirations to separate from a state in which they already exercise tremendous influence, with many
of them occupying high level government positions.
The demands of the Azeri minority remain quite modest, focusing primarily on the expansion of
cultural freedoms. For instance, local control over Azeri language broadcasting, representation in
local government, and the promotion of the Azeri language at all levels of education, including the
university level. In light of the regime s need to avoid exacerbating dual loyalties inside its borders
and the prominent role Azeris play in the government and the business community, the Iranian
government is likely to meet their demands. Although some scholars

Jane Austen And Tom Jones
Emma, which was published in 1815, by Jane Austen and Tom Jones, published in 1749, by
Henry Fielding are novels that emphasize the impact that one s rank in the social ladder has on
their reputation. Emma Woodhouse is high in the social ladder, and as a result, is loved,
respected, and maintains a good reputation, even though her character traits aren t wonderful. She
is a selfish and impulsive, yet, that is overlooked because of her reputation. Tom Jones is
impulsive, but always has the best interest at heart, and is always looking to help people. Despite
his efforts, because of his class, he has a poor reputation. Both novels show what an impact
someone s rank in the social class had in these period times, and that their true character... Show

He is introduced with the statement: As we determined when we first sat down to write this
History, to flatter no man; but to guide our Pen throughout by the Directions of Truth, we are
obliged to bring our Heroe on the Stage in a much more disadvantageous Manner than we could
wish; and to declare honestly, even at his first Appearance, that it was the universal Opinion of all
Mr. Allworthy s Family, that he was certainly born to be hanged. (118)
This gives the impression to the reader that Tom Jones is not an honorable man, and we shouldn t
respect him or his actions throughout the novel. While Tom is an impulsive character, mostly
everything he does is to help someone else, and he always has the best intent at heart. Despite his
efforts to help the people around him and be seen as a hero, his poor reputation remains the same
for a majority of the novel. A similar flaw between Tom and Emmais the fact that both are
impulsive with their actions. This happens multiple times in Emma, especially when she tries to
play matchmaker. This is partially due to the fact that she is unable to see reality clearly, which is
what happens during her attempt at bringing Harriet and Mr. Elton together. After finding a love

Homelessness has been around for a long time, but crimination of the homeless is a topic that just
occurred recently. When criminalization came about there was two groups in the U.S., one side
opposed to it and the other supported it. The group that opposes criminalization of homeless
people are advocates who believe that criminalizing homeless people will only worsen the
situation and cause more problems to begin with, make our nation as a whole look bad, and
violates their rights. Another reason why a person advocates against the criminalization of
homeless people believe in what they believe is that they had a personal experience relating to this
subject or out of concern for the citizens who reside in this country. Instead of wasting the

Business Intelligence Is A Vital Part Of Keeping An...
Business intelligence is a vital part of keeping an organization competitive. Data mining processes
are essential to developing business intelligence. According to a study by IBM, 2.5 quintillion
bytes of data are created every day. This total includes everything from photos and social media
posts to word processing files, financial records and Snap chats. The objective of data miningis to
use the enormous amount of information being produced to understand trends, accumulate
additional new information, and develop better processes and services based on research, behavior,
and preferences
Data mining is defined as the examining of large databases of information in order to generate new
information. Nearly every transaction or interaction leaves a data signature that is captured and
stored. Data mining is a means of automating the process of analyzing the patterns of data according
to different categories. The information is then sorted, collected and assembled into data
warehouses for more efficient analysis by algorithms and used to facilitate business decisions.
Sophisticated mathematical algorithms are used to segment the data and evaluate the probability of
future events.
The major steps involved in a data mining process are to first extract, transform and load the data
into a data warehouse, then store and manage the data in databases; the data will then be given to
analysts to be processed using application software and finally the analyzed data will be presented

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Kombucha
Kombucha is a fermented tea beverage originating from China during the Tsin Dynasty
(approximately 220 BC) and is typically made by using green or black tea leaves. These leaves
come from the evergreen shrub Camellia sinensis which is endogenous to Southeast Asia. The
different categories of tea (green black) are due to the varying levels of oxidation that the leaves go
through during processing, with green teabeing one of the least oxidised and black tea being the
most oxidised/processed. Kombucha is made up of four basic components tea, sugar, yeastand
bacteria and together they form a sweet, slightly fizzy, sharp tasting drink which many people

At this point the sweet tea solution is essentially sterile due to the use of boiling water. In order
to ensure that the symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast(s) is not denatured by the temperature
of the tea solution, the tea base is allowed to cool. Adding the S.C.O.B.Y. while the tea base is
still near boiling point will damage or even kill the microorganisms in the starter S.C.O.B.Y and
lead to an unsuccessful fermentation. The poly microbial community associated with kombucha
is temperature and pH sensitive and will not reproduce if either one or both of these
environmental factors are at an incorrect level. With regard to temperature the tea solution needs
to be at the very most below 32В°C before adding the starter S.C.O.B.Y. The optimum
temperature for a kombucha fermentation is 25В°C. Additionally it should be noted that
refrigerating the tea solution will send the S.C.O.B.Y. into dormancy as the tea solution would be
too cold and will result in a prolonged and staggered fermentation. The optimal temperature range
for a kombucha fermentation is between 25В°C and 32В°C which is ideal for S.C.O.B.Y.
microorganisms belonging to the bacterial genera of Acetobacter, Lactobacillus and
Gluconacetobacter, also yeast species belonging to the Zygosaccharomyces genus, and
specifically Zygosaccharomyces kombuchaensis, thrive at these temperatures. The bacteria
present in kombucha are acidophiles and flourish in a low pH environment, generally the teas
used for a kombucha fermentation range in pH from 2.9 to 6.3 (add reference) but these tea bases
may not be at an optimal pH range to support the growth of Lactobacilli, Acetobacter and
Gluconacetobacter species, namely Gluconacetobacter kombuchae, which will grow at a pH of 5.0

Aaron Burr Research Paper
THE DUEL OF ALEXANDER HAMILTON AND AARON BURR
On July 11th 1804 in the early hours of the morning two men met at a private location to defend
their honor and settle a dispute that had been building for possible more than two decades. The
dispute would be settled by a duel leaving one man unharmed and the other fatally wounded with
less than a day to live. The names of the two men were Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr. Even
though both men knew what the consequences would be if they accepted the challenge of a duel
they still decided to participate and defend their honor which in those days was how a man was
valued, if you could not stand by your word and were not an honorable man you were not
trustworthy and certainly not respectable.
I found this particular story very captivating because these two men had so much in common you
would think that they would have become friends instead of mortal enemies, they were both born
at the end of the 17th century and although Aaron burr was born to royalty and Hamilton was born
illegitimately and out of wedlock they still both went on to pursue very similar lives and careers.

My Influence Of Sports On My Life
Through my life, I have always been willing to try new things. I have learned it is ok to fail, no
matter how many times, as long as I keep trying. Out of the many interests that I have pursued,
one thing stands out to me. I love sports. I have participated in sports since a young age, and I
have discovered that a vast majority of my relationships have been made through the sports
world. I can talk about sports all day long. My obsession started at a young age. The first memory
I have of watching sports was on February 1st, 2004. That was the date of Super Bowl 38. Before

couldn t throw it hard enough or far enough. When I was tired and couldn t play any more
football, I would come home and play Madden. I played Madden religiously. I played with every
NFL team and learned as many names as I could. The thing that captivated me about Madden
was the player ratings. Each player had numeric attributes numbered from 25 to 99 that affected
their overall rating. The ratings included speed, strength, acceleration, agility, catching, tackling,
and awareness. My favorite thing to do was to look through the numbers. I slowly memorized
the names of hundreds of NFL players and used the attributes to determine what type of player
they were. I used a composition notebook to write down names of my favorite players. I wrote
down some of their notable attributes in the journal. On Sundays, I would watch NFL games all
day and watch the players I wrote in my journal. I wondered what it would be like to put together a

Calgary costs a mere $0.27 per passenger, whereas Hamilton s current bus system costs $5.00 per
passenger, and fares only cover half of bus fees. These values would directly correlate to the
costs Elkhead would have with these respective systems. While this proposal is the most
expensive up front, over time, it is the only proposal that provides any monetary profit to
Elkhead. Also, since a train can carry as many as 5 times more passengers than a bus. To benefit
Elkhead s economy, the city would gain money if the LRT were implemented, compared to losing

Voodoo In African-American Culture
In American popular culture, the word voodoo has become synonymous with macabre imagery and
the practice of dark magic. This notion is evident in the portrayal of voodoo in movies, music,
literature, and on the Internet. Voodoo is often inaccurately used as a single term to refer to a
number of different African Diasporic religions, including West African Vodun, Hatian Vodou, and
American Voodoo. Also included is hoodoo, an African American folk magic that has gradually
supplanted American Voodoo since the early 19th century. Hoodoo itself is not a religion
, although
it does borrow elements from both African and European religions and shares a historical
connection with Vodun, Vodou, and Voodoo.

Anthony and Disney I placed Anthony as an active feminist and Disney as a passive feminist.
When I look at America today, I would place a majority of men and woman under the passive
feminist category. I feel a majority of people fall into those ideals because there are small
arguments regarding feminist issues, but no action is taken on a broader scale to promote
change. When I think of a feminist I think of someone such as Susan B. Anthony, who did
something regarding women s rights and made a positive change within society. In today s
society, technology regulates much of our daily life and technology is where people go to voice
their opinions about feminist ideals. Often times, celebrities will tweet about how woman can
stand alone from men and how woman should not be sent home for what they wear because it
could distract a male classmate. Those tweets circulate for a while but are soon forgotten. Those
celebrities who type those messages are not an active feminist, they are simply an American
utilizing their right of freedom of press under the First Amendment. Anyone can be a feminist, but
to be a feminist he or she needs to do more than tweet to create change. Circulating the idea is a
minimal step, one needs to advocate the issue on a more public level to create change for woman
and therefore be considered an active feminist. Some celebrities often argue for woman having
more equality with men and their ideals follow feminist s ideals, but they deny ever associating
themselves with the word. These people feel that if they say they are a feminist than, they are
saying that woman are better and more superior then men. These celebrities are acting as passive
feminist who are voicing their opinions about subjects related to the matter but doing nothing more
to create change. In another sense some celebrities are active feminist and want to promote change

African descent. If one gene is missing or damaged: Your red blood cells might be smaller than

Thalassemia minor happens when you inherit the defective gene from only one parent. People
with thalassemia minor are carriers of the disease and usually do not have symptoms. Beta
thalassemia is also called Cooley s anemia. The chances of getting it include being of Asian,
Chinese, Mediterranean, or African American ethnicity, or the family s history of the disorder.
The most severe form of alpha thalassemia major causes stillbirth. Stillbirth is the death of an
unborn baby during birth or the later stages of pregnancy. Children born with thalassemia major
are fine and normal at birth, but develop severe anemia during the first year of their life. Other
symptoms can be bone deformities in the face, fatigue, growth failure, shortness of breath, and
yellow skin. People with the minor form of alpha and beta thalassemia have small red blood
cells, but no symptoms. If they have thalassemia and take a physical test they may have a
swollen spleen. A blood sample will be taken and sent to a laboratory. The red blood cells will be
small and abnormally shaped under a microscope. A complete blood count reveals anemia. A test
called hemoglobin electrophoresis shows the presence of an abnormal form of hemoglobin. A test
called mutational analysis can help detect alpha thalassemia that cannot be seen with hemoglobin
electrophoresis. Treatment for thalassemia major often involves regular blood transfusions and

Why Is Leonardo Da Vinci Interested In The Natural World
While looking through the different topics I found myself curious on the work of Leonardo da
Vinci with perspective, light, color, shading in paintings. While investigating this discovery, I
learned so much. Leonardo da Vinci was interested in the natural world, so much that it led him into
the field of optics and astronomy. At first while increasing his understanding he took the theories of
the day as fact, but as he increased his knowledge he started to question what they had originally
thought, not only did he question them, but also his own beliefs on the matter. As his
understanding of how optics worked and the reflections that he observed from the sun on other
planets and stars his paintings themselves began to adapt bringing more life

The things they carried,by Tim O brien
quot;Oh man, you fuckin trashed the fucker. You scrambled his sorry self, look at that, you did,
you laid him out like fuckin Shredded Wheat. quot; I chose to start off my essay with this
particular exert from the book because I think that it very much represents the story in itself. Azar
said this, after Tim (supposedly) killed a Vietnamese soldierwith a hand grenade. It shows that in
times of war, how callous men can become. However, callousness varies, whether they chose to be
apathetic, like Tim shows us after his grenade episode. Or whether they choose to be more myopic,
as shown through Azar s insensitive actions (i.e. the young lady s tragic loss, the puppy,... Show

Even the author undergoes an incredible change from the beginning of the story, and through the
trials and tribulations, he becomes an almost completely different person. Although there were more
situations in which this particular change was exhibited, I feel that these represented it to the most
acute degree.
Incredible paranoia is one side effect of being surrounded by so much carnage. After Lee Strunk
comes back from the undertakings involving his broken nose, Dave Jensen went into a mentality
consisting of paranoid lunacy. When you are around a person who has an incredible amount of
spite for you, as well as ready access to firearms, moreover nothing to lose, one cannot help but
spend their days looking over your shoulder. Living in fear of someone you have crossed,
waiting for the day when you will be caught off guard, giving them the chance to exact their
horrible revenge. Jensen just could not take it any more, and he went as far as to break his own
nose. It takes a certain type of motivation for a person to sit down and break his own nose. But
afterwards, he felt as if a great burden had been lifted off of his shoulders. And that is exactly what
the war did, it burdened these men, whether the baggage be physical or emotional, war is a burden
that is not only difficult to remove, but difficult to carry.

Health Issues In America
Health is something that is not taken seriously unless it is put on the spotlight through social
networks. In America, it is said that there are six challenges the minorities face within the
community and they are addressed by infant mortality rates, cancer, cardiovascular disease,
diabetes, HIV infections and immunizations. One of the major healthissues being discussed within
the city of El Paso is Diabetes. Diabetes research tells us that this is a metabolic disease in which
the body s inability to produce any or enough insulin causing elevated levels of glucose in the

War Propaganda Song Essay
The songs from World War I range from dark humor to sarcastic attempts to bitter complaints
about soldier s lifestyles during war. Based on what I ve heard and read, most of the lyrics are
propaganda for young men to join the war. These songs usually portray the conditions of soldiers in
the war in a good light. Another significant portion are lovesongs that soldiers sing to remind them
of their wife that they left at home with their children. Finally, a very small portion is the the anti
war songs that are strictly prohibited in music halls, the most popular form of popular song, where
music is played for the common folk who couldn t afford their own gramophones.

This song is sung from a prostitute s point of view; basically, she is saying that she everyone that
fights for the war makes her proud as a woman and she d gladly sleep with anyone who does. The
dark part of the song is that she lures in these unsuspecting men and makes them join the military
when they think they are going to be able to get down with her and her other friends.
One last example is Over There sung by Henry Burr:
Johnnie, get your gun, get your gun, get your gun,
Take it on the run, on the run, on the run,
Hear them calling you and me, ev ry son of liberty
Hurray right away, no delay, go today
Make your Daddy glad to have had such a lad,
Tell your sweetheart not to pine, to be proud her boy s in line The last two lines show the pride
soldiers inspire in others when they fight in the war, making it very ideal for those who want to
impress their parents and wives. Songs like these have had a huge impact on societies all over the
world because it is a form of entertainment and people listen to songs to pass time. In turn, they get
the song s messages and apply for the military.

The United States Political System
Mankind has always undergone trends in a cyclical manor. However, as society presses forward,
the relative minima and maxima tend to break the threshold at an increasing rate meaning that
what would be considered normal is shortly lived. Today we live in a society where factions
divide the nation in their plight to achieve an organized force of ideas. The Political parties of
the modern era have become far more organized and are no longer looking to support ideas but
are ever hungry to maintain and gain political power rather than represent a people s voice. Our
democratic republic relies on the organized and informed voter to maintain a balance of control
between the people and the government. This is argued in Thomas Edison s 10th federalist
paper in which he states, If a faction consists of less than a majority, relief is supplied by the
republican principle, which enables the majority to defeat its sinister views by regular vote... it
will be unable to execute and mask its violence under the forms of the Constitution. When a
majority is included in a faction, the form of popular government, on the other hand, enables it to
sacrifice to its ruling passion or interest both the public good and the rights of other citizens. To
secure the public good and private rights against the danger of such a faction, and at the same time
to preserve the spirit and the form of popular government, is then the great object to which our
inquiries are directed... Here we see the need for

Poe s The Man of the Crowd As a Satire of the Penny Press
In the mid nineteenth century , the penny newspaper could be found on almost every American
urban street corner. These penny papers, as they were popularly called, provided the American
people for the first time in history with informative articles about local city events, incidents, and,
more importantly, inner city crime. These penny rags revealed an entirely new world to the
American citizens; they were informed for the first time of the many heinous crimes and murders
that occurred right in the vicinity of their own houses. At a time when America was first being
introduced to such local injustices, it is quite understandable that penny papers claiming to ... Show

In hopes of spotting such profitable incidents, penny press journalists were always on the look out
for anything suspicious and anything worthy of being sensationalized. Interestingly, in his short
story, The Man of the Crowd, Edgar Allan Poe includes a first person narrator who also seems to
be on the look out for anything out of the ordinary.
While he may not reveal himself as a penny journalist, this narrator certainly plays the part of one
as he singles out an old man making a devious gesture in the crowd and begins to speculate about
his possible criminal intentions. Like a nosy penny tabloid reporter hungry for a juicy lead, the
narrator follows the old man into the night, hoping, if not to catch him in an act of crime, then to fit
his behaviors into the mold of criminality. Interestingly, while the old man does in fact turn out to
be nothing more than an innocent wanderer of the streets, the narrator still proceeds to formulate
his own exaggerated conclusions about the old man s supposed criminal intentions. By setting the
first person narrator up as the stereotypical penny journalist and then making the very target of his
exaggeration nothing more than an innocent, commonplace man of the crowd, it can be argued that
Poe is in fact mocking the penny press for their tendency to inflate the actions of innocent people

The Trope Of The Sphere
Interestingly, it is via Borges, a well known master in the creation of literary labyrinths, that we
are able to find several possible explanations for these inner circularities, for instance, through his
recurrent references to the trope of the sphere. Take some of the short fictions that constitute his
1941 volume The Garden of Forking Paths, namely Lottery in Babylon and The Library of
Babel . Not only does Borges tell us that the Babylonians obey the dictates of chance, surrender
their lives, their hopes, their nameless terror to it, but it never occurs to them to delve into its
labyrinthine laws or the revolving spheres that manifest its workings (Borges 1998: 104;
emphasis added), but also his Library of Babel is a sphere whose exact center is any hexagon
and whose circumference is unattainable (113). Moreover, the trope of the sphere whose center
is everywhere and its circumference nowhere would be later analysed by Borges in an essay
titled Pascal s Sphere [1951]. In it, the significance of the sphere as a double paradox of time

Information Security Standards For An Organization

Conflict in Daniel Ridgway KnightВґs Paintings
Daniel Ridgway Knight was an odd American artist who loved to paint relaxed French peasants in
luscious landscapes. Ironically, he lived during a stressful time when the Industrial Revolution
displaced numerous farmers and polluted the environment. He seemed to ignore the harsh truth and
shut himself in his imaginary serene world. For instance, In the Premier Chagrin, translated as The
First Grief, Knight paints two healthy girls conversing on a stonewall in front of gorgeous fields. At
first, it appears as merely a pretty painting that is nicely contrasted to show depth and realism.
Yet, with a closer look, this contrast in the colors and lines of the landscape and the figures
creates tension to suggest the painter s conflict between longing for serene freedom and feeling
trapped within the stiff society. Though the viewers focus first on the centered figures, it is easier
to first analyze the surrounding settings to understand them. The stone wall foreground and the
open fields of the background each embodies one of the girl s thoughts. The back landscape is
filled with warm, airy colors of blue and orange, as if it were under a bright sun. On the other hand,
the foreground s stone wallsand concrete floor has dark, cold, shadowy, earthy colors that seem to
appear as if under a stormy cloud. The sunny land suggests free, pure, spacious land previous to the
industrialization. Yet, the darkened foreground due to the overcasting shadows resemble the

What is a human life worth? To some it s priceless, and to others nothing at all. As humans we

Every single member of the cast kept spirits high, which in turn helped drive the show along.
They, also, did a marvelous job of keeping the illusion of the first time , portraying a clear
pantomime to the audience through nonverbal communication, and good inflection and volume. A
good example of this would be with actress, Katelyn Maudlin, throughout the performance she
displayed high spirits through her use of inflection and volume, all while keeping an illusion of
the first time . Another actor who did a marvelous job was Ben Elliot, who played John the
Baptist/Judas, throughout the production you could see the development of his characters ideas
and mentality on subjects being discussed. For instance, while singing On the Willows , Ben
reached a moment at the end of the song where he let his voice fall into a slight sob. I don t know
if this was intending or he used this accident for this intended use, either way this was most
effective in revealing his stance on the crucifixion of Jesus. All of these aspects of their acting, as a
whole, helped keep the show alive and interesting to the audience. However, some aspects of their
acting lacked in a sense that threatened such effectiveness, yet did not destroy the show altogether.
Scene stealing, bad diction and articulation were identifiable in the performance. Scene stealing was
a major negative element that I saw, not only in some of the chorus, but with some of the principle
characters when it was not their main part. Though some of this scene stealing could be due to an
unequal balance of enthusiasm, thus diverting attention onto the most enthusiastic actors and
actresses, it was relevant enough to distract the audience from what they should have been

A popular soup that you might like is potato soup. To do this, you need to buy all of the

The Smartphone market is emerging and growing. This is a well known fact. However, this report
primarily focuses upon what goes on behind the scenes in producing a Smartphone that is at par
with the customers needs. The Smartphone market moved from producing sets with an
alphanumeric keyboard to a qwerty keyboard, to a touch screen, to intelligent voice commands, to

What Are The Pros And Cons Of Federal Budgets
The Balancing of State Federal Budgets
The purpose of this paper is to analyze and determine the pros and cons of a balanced vs
unbalanced financial system by comparing the nature of state budgets to the federal budget. States
and local governments operate within the parameters of a balanced annual budget where their total
expenditures equal their total revenues generated; however, a surplus can occur when their
revenues exceed their expenditures as well as a fiscal deficit when their expenditures exceed their
revenues. When state or local governments experience a fiscal deficit due to hardship like a natural
disaster, they can petition the federal government for funding in order to reconcile their budgets.

which the government is not authorized to borrow funds in order to manage over spending that
is contributing to the fiscal deficit and this threshold is referred to as the national debt ceiling
(Ross, 2015). The federal government has the ability to raise its own debt ceiling if needed with
the approval of congress. This practice is largely in place because the federal government has the
authority to print money and issue currency in order to help regulate the economy whereas this is
out of state and local government s jurisdiction of fiscal power. When the federal government is
approaching its debit ceiling, it will then borrow money in the form of treasury bonds in order to
help balance the deficit spending. These treasury bonds are purchased by individuals, corporations,
and other countries like China amongst other entities (Ross, 2015). The government s budget was
generally in surplus in the 1960s, then mostly in deficit since, except for a brief period between

Caloric Intake Of A Typical Meal At The Olive Garden
I can consume 3373 Calories per day because of my above average height, my weight, my young
age, and my gender (male). Even though I can consume a lot of Calories, I still need to be aware
of what I eat. One of my favorite restaurants is the Olive Garden, thus I am going to compare the
caloric intake of a typical meal at the Olive Garden with my estimated caloric needs. A meal that
I typically have is the chicken parmigiana, the chicken and gnocchi soup, and a raspberry
lemonade. The chicken parmigiana has 1050 Calories, the chicken and gnocchi soup has 250
Calories, and a raspberry lemonade has 170 Calories; with a total of 1,470 Calories for the entire
meal. This means that I would have 1,903 Calories leftover for my day. This is a lot of Calories
leftover, but at the same time its not if the Calories I consumed were empty Calories, or if I ate
out for my previous meals. Empty Calories add to the total amount of Calories without supplying
the nutrients that I need. Undoubtedly Calories from restaurants add more to the empty Calories of
my diet without supplying me with needed nutrients, than if I would just eat at home. The meal
that I ate at the Olive Garden mainly had fat and sodium, with small amounts of fiber and
vegetables. So a third of all my Calories that I can consume would go towards a meal that provides
no sources of major much needed nutrients. The hardest part of nutritionfor me, is allocating all the
Calories that I can consume towards foods that give me the

Success and Failure in Organizational Change
To cite this article: Bernard Burnes Philip Jackson (2011): Success and Failure In Organizational
Change: An Exploration of the Role of Values, Journal of Change Management,
ABSTRACT One of the most remarkable aspects of organizational change efforts is their low
success rate. There is substantial evidence that some 70% of all change initiatives fail. This article
explores the argument that a potentially significant reason for this is a lack of alignment
between the value system of the change intervention and of those members of an organization
undergoing the change. In order to test this assertion, the article begins by reviewing the change
literature with regard to the impact of values on success and failure. It then examines Graves ...

However, the problem with such explanations is that implicitly or explicitly they assume that
there is a one best way to manage change and that failure arises from not adhering to it (Burnes,
1996). Confusingly, there are quite a few one best way approaches to change (Collins, 1998; By,
2005). For example, Kanter (Kanter et al., 1992) offered her 10 commandments for successful
change, Pugh (1993) has his four principles of change and Kotter (1996) put forward his eight step
model. Two, however, have stood out from the rest. From the 1950s to the 1970s, organization
development (OD) tended to be seen as the best way to manage change (French and Bell, 1999;
Cummings and Worley, 2005). In the 1980s and 1990s, the emergent/processual approach came to
dominate the п¬Ѓeld, at least among academics (Dawson, 1994; Orlikowski, 1996; Weick, 2000).
Nevertheless, in recent years there has been a growing recognition that one or even two approaches
to change cannot cover the vast variety of change situations (Storey, 1992; Stickland, 1998;
Pettigrew, 2000; Burnes, 2009a). As Dunphy and Stace (1993, p. 905) argued:
. . . managers and consultants need a model of change that is essentially a situational or contingency
model, one that indicates how to vary change strategies to achieve optimum п¬Ѓt with the changing
environment.

Student Misconduct
Why is it necessary for a university to establish a code of conduct? The University of Florida s
answer is in the following quote, The University of Florida is an institution which encourages the
intellectual and personal growth of its students as scholars and citizens. As an educational
institution, the Universityrecognizes that the transmission of knowledge, the pursuit of truth, and
the development of individuals require the free exchange of ideas, self expression, and the
challenging of beliefs and customs. In order to maintain an environment where these goals can be
achieved safely and equitably, the University promotes civility, respect, and integrity among all

That also means it has become even easier to discover when others are using someone else s
work in their documents and to verify whether they are properly citing where the source material
came from. It is a far less risky option to make the extra effort of giving credit where it is due.
This activity is a direct violation of the University Of Phoenix Code Of Conduct/Code of Academic
Integrity. B. Martin sums it up nicely in the Journal of Information Ethics: plagiarism is much more
common among both students and scholars than usually recognized and it is a serious offense
against scholarships and should be condemned and penalized.
How do you catch a cheating student participating in an online environment? As defined in the
University of Phoenix 2007 2008 Online Master Catalog, cheating is using or attempting to use
unauthorized materials, information, or study aids in any academic exercise (University).
However, without physically interfacing with the student, how does a teacher ensure a student is
turning in assignments that are homegrown within the mind of the writer? With the advent of the
internet, information is rampant and often unchecked for credibility. In the same instance, it is a
Mecca of information potentially influencing the personal education of billions. Coupling the
internet with an online academic environment, there is a potential for cheating. Students are less
likely to cheat if they are educated, monitored

The Dishonest In Kurt Vonnegut s The Lie
Lying is done with words, and also with silence. Adrienne Rich had once said. That means or
shows us that you can tell a lie even when you don t say something when you should be speaking
up about it. In the story, The Lie, by Kurt Vonnegut, Eli lies by not speaking up while his father, Dr.
Remenzel, lies with words straight in front of others. This is where the theme of being dishonest
can turn out to become a bigger problem than you may have expected shows many times within the
story.
In the story, The Lie, being dishonest can turn out to become a bigger problem than you may have

After hearing this news Dr. Remenzel and Silvia split up trying to solve two different things.
Trying to get him admitted into Whitehill and trying to understand their son for what he did. The
theme of being dishonest making problems turn out bigger than you may have expected comes
in when Dr. Remenzel is trying to complete his task; getting him admitted into the school without
a scholarship or admittance approval. This is the main part of his lie while even more happened
at the start of the story. Dr. Remenzels lie starts at the beginning story while the are being taken
to the Whitehill. For example, ... that you are not to ask for anything special for Eli not anything.
said Dr. Remenzel to Sylvia. That is part of his lie because Dr. Remenzel had repeatedly stated
that they didn t want anything special because they were just like everyone else and not entitled to
more. But later on, we find out the true self of him. We find out that he has always wanted to make
the Remenzel cycle go on because he thought he was special. At the end, Eli was almost infuriated
with his father for trying to get him

Essay On Presidential Power
The arguments made by Federalists and anti Federalists regarding the office and powers of the
presidency during the ratifying debates that followed the drafting of the Constitution in 1787
were persuasive, but distinctly at odds. Both sides, however, sought the same thing, how best to
allocate power in a unified republic of states? From this question opposing views developed as to
whether or not a President should even exist, and if so, what powers he should be granted. I will
briefly examine the presidential powers that were primarily awarded under Article II of the new
Constitution. I will then explore the opposing arguments that arose during the ratifying debates
concerning those granted powers. I do so in the interest of offering a... Show more content on

opinions of any of the heads of state departments as it relates to their respective offices. The
President also has the power to grant reprieves and pardons for offenses against the U.S., except
in cases of impeachment. The President also has the power to make treaties with foreign powers
provided the Senate has consented by a two thirds majority. He may also appoint ambassadors,
ministers, consuls, judges of the Supreme Court, and other officers with the advice and consent of
the Senate. The President also has the power to fill vacancies in the Senate temporarily. On
extraordinary occasions, the President may convene or temporarily adjourn either or both
legislative houses in the interest of resolving disputes. The President is also charged with meeting
with ambassadors and other public representatives. The President can also be impeached for
treason, bribery, or other high crimes or misdemeanors. With the presidential powers now outlined,
let us explore the opposing opinions of each presidential power(Colonies of Nations, 549 553). The
President s power to approve and veto laws was one of many points of contention regarding the
office. Federalists like Hamilton argued for an empowered President by claiming the power to
approve and veto laws was essential to preventing the siphoning of power from one branch of

Purpose And Purpose In The Endurance
How Relationship, Purpose, and Cheerfulness Can Make A Difference To Survive.
The Endurance is about the struggle of 28 men who journey through the Antarctic. Shackleton
was able to recruit men to sail on the Endurance to the Antarctic and cross by foot. The men were
ready for adventure and excited to begin the journey with haste, not realizing that they were going
to encounter the struggles of survival. There were three ways that they were able to overcome
adversity: strong relationships, purpose, and cheerfulness. Having a strong relationship with peers
is essential for the times of crisis. During the long polar nights, the crew on board the Belgica
suffered from insanity and many lost their lives due to isolation. The crewmembers that were on
the Endurance had the reverse effect. They had the desire to get to know each other even though
their characters were contrasting, and they began to draw closer to each other by talking and
sharing experiences. On the Belgica, there was no relationship between the men, and even one man
feared that his crewmates wanted to kill him. The crewmembers of the Endurance valued
relationships and were able to survive the polar nights. Even in the Bible, God gave Adam a wife
because He knew that it was better for Adam. In Genesis 2:18 it says, And the Lord God said, It
is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him. God created Eve
to be with Adam. God knew that it was better for Adam to have a

Sociological Analysis Of The Five Social Statuses
The macrosociology method that we are going to be talking about are the five social statuses that

with these social statuses Weber s term of the three P s apply, property which refers to wealth,
power which is getting others to do what you want, and lastly prestige, which is your social status.
Status sets refers to all the statuses or positions you occupy, such as being a mother, student,

It is how we present our self in everyday life and the reasons we act the way we do. Reasons that
may affect how we present ourselves are the kind stage we re on, role performance, role
conflicts, and role strain. The difference between role and status is that you occupy a status, but
you play a role (Linton 1936). Although statuses are macrosociology based, there is still
confusion between roles and statuses. Goffman believed that there were stages in which we
performed our assigned roles such as front stage and back stage. The front stage is wherever we
deliver our lines for example, taking the role of your occupation. The back stage is a place we
can relax, have some privacy, and reflect from the front stage. For example, being in your
bedroom not having to worry about a thing and being able to discuss what happened on the front
stage. This can affect how we present ourselves because when we re in the front stage we re
putting up in act to present our self to whoever our audience is. Whereas in the back stage we
have no one to put on a show for and we can relax and let loose. Role performance is similar with
role conflict because a role performance is a certain interpretation that you give your role. For
example, I can play the role as a good student and turn in all my assignments in on time, score high

  • 2. Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Research Paper Ever since I was about 10, I was extremely interested in becoming a neonatal nurse practitioner. I love babies and love helping others so I figured this particular job could be perfect for me. A neonatal nurse practitioner means you provide care for newborns in need of specialized attention for about the first month of their life. These newborns are usually premature or very sick and the nurse practitioners are usually their primary caregiver. NNP s are responsible for their patients, exercising judgment when necessary to assess, diagnose, and initiate medical procedures. Many tasks include monitoring specialized equipment, including incubators and ventilators. Providing education and support to patients families regarding neonatal, intensive... I like that I can be working with babies all the time and improve their lives. I would basically be getting paid for doing what I love. I also enjoy the fact that I would get to communicate with the families and keep them informed and updated. The whole idea is so interesting, I love talking to people and helping others, therefore, I would assume I would like this job. As of right now, I cannot think of anything I do not like about the job. I recently was given the number of a lady to contact so I can set up a job shadow with a NICU nurse, I cannot wait! After researching the career, I discovered the actual salary which seems good, however, I do not know much about salaries. Also, I learned what kind of schooling is involved which I did not know before, a master degree is absolutely necessary. My ideas about this career did not change from what I learned from this assignment. I am still very much interested in getting involved and maybe pursuing this career just as I had been ... • 3. Cost And Purpose Of Sales Promotion 1: INTRODUCTION 1.1. Introduction to sales promotion Meaning and Purpose of Sales Promotion: Sales promotion consists of all promotional activities other than advertising, personal selling and publicity that help to increase sales through non repetitive and one time communication. In other words, it includes marketing activities other than personal selling, advertising, and publicity, that stimulate consumer purchasing and dealer effectiveness, such as point of purchase displays, shows and exhibitions, demonstrations and various non recurring selling efforts not in the ordinary routine. Purpose: The ultimate aim or purpose of sales promotion is that of increasing the volume of sales and profits but it differs from advertising and personal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, the greater the geographical dispersion of a target market, the greater the communication expenditure required. Similarly, if an offering is in its early life cycle, there is a greater need of expenditure. But promotion budget should always justify the tasks to be undertaken. A basic principle would be the cost and returns of sales promotion tools to be adopted. Hindustan Lever has its well drawn up sales promotion budget. If any business house does not have its promotion budget fixed, then promotion programmes will have to be designed to support the marketing plan. (vi) Government regulations: Government has passed various laws and made rules to protect the consumer interest, such as the prevention of Food Adulteration Act, the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, and Drugs and Cosmetics Act etc. Sales promotion policy must take into consideration the government regulations relating to the particular product, e.g. the commodity rates must be specified on the package and in case of medicines drug contents and date of manufacturing, date of expire, and price must be ... • 4. Research Paper On Blended Families LaTisha Fallin Mrs. Joy Branch Sociology 200 16 November 2015 I chose the subject of remarriage because I was always interested in knowing why people would want to get married all over again. Remarriage is a relationship where two people have gave themselves to each other in the manner of a husband and wife after another marriage has ended. Shockingly, more people want to get remarried than I expected. My research showed me a lot of insight on remarriage. Remarriage brings about the blended families. Blended families is another way of saying stepfamilies. Sometimes it can be difficult coming into another family. While the U.S. divorce rate sits around forty five percent, the blended marriage divorce rate is approximately sixty seven percent marriages. If the woman or man already have children, the children have to adapt to the stepmother or stepfather. Being married and staying married in a blended family is a difficult task to achieve. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is shown that fifty percent of the widowed or divorced have remarried that does not have a high school degree. More students, adults and young adults are focusing more on studying and school more than they are focusing getting married or even remarried. Marriage or remarriage is not a top priority in a high school or college student. ( Remarriage on the Rise in the U.S. U.S. News World Report.) Ethnic backgrounds also has an impact on the rate of remarriage. In 2012, whites had a percent of sixty that remarried. The Hispanics had a twenty one percent of remarriage. The blacks had a forty eight percent that remarried. The Asian Americans had a forty six percent of remarriage. The older Americans are the ones who are getting remarried. There is also a gender gap in the terms of remarriage. In 2013, sixty four percent of men compared to fifty two percent of women remarry. ( Remarriage on the Rise in the U.S. U.S. News World ... • 5. The Pros And Cons Of Women Working outside of the home was rare for women at a time and was wrong if it was done. Women that did work outside of the home were not taken seriously being seen as less intelligent than men and less able to cope with stress (Harrington 16). They were physically and intellectually inferior so women weren t usually allowed to face the outside world (Collins 4 5). Women were told if they worked, they would be taking jobs away from men that needed to support their families, but in reality most women who worked did so to support their families as well (Harrington 17 18). The unemployment rates surpassed men s 4.7% to 2.8% in the 1960s (Ward 101). It was thought that women had no real ambition to work (Harrington 16). Though it wasn t typical for a women to work, it was said the poor and single women should work until they were married (Chafe 21). Even then it was a stretch for a woman to work considering single women were seen as prey in the workplace (Nies 15). The usual jobs women were stuck into were teachers, nurses, and secretaries (Kesselman 31). Even if qualified, women couldn t work high level federal jobs (Nies 46). A lot of the time, women wouldn t even receive credit for the jobs they did (Povich 78). Not only were women stuck in jobs they didn t enjoy, but they were also paid less and were not provided with health or retirement benefits (Harrington 18). They were being denied the right to show potential in what they did and felt restricted because of it (Senker ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Concept Of Incentives And The Way Of Which Humans... Sandel next adresses the concept of incentives and the way in which humans respond to them. Individuals act in order to maximize their own welfare and therefore respond things that allow them to do so; these things are known as incentives. Sandel provides us with the example of students who where offered financial incentive to do better in school. However the reaction to the incentives differed from the standard economic model. While paying students who passed AP exams did increase over all success, the results indicated that the amount of money payed made no difference in the amount of achievement. While the did serve its purpose as an incentive, the money did not act as a bribe but rather as an agent that changed the stigma associated with AP testing making it cool for students to do. While there do exist benefits to offering incentives, there also exists ramification known as perverse incentives. The notion of perverse incentives deals with the idea that by placing a market price on a certain act, the meaning of the act itself may become blurred. Sandel offers the example of fine Vs. fees where parents would come late to pick up their children from day care and treat the fine for coming late as a fee for extended service. By placing a market value on the extended time care takers had to work, parents no longer felt guilty about leaving their child later till later hours and therefore eroding the original purpose of the fine. At this point Sandel moves to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Analysis Of The Movie I Chose Silver Linings Playbook The analysis of the movie I chose was Silver Linings Playbook. This movie was a revamping of the publication Silver Linings Playbook by Matthew Quick. Patrick, known as Pat throughout the movie, Solatano, Jr. is portrayed by Bradley Cooper. Although it is unclear what is different about Pat in the very beginning, the story soon unravels his skeletons in the closet. The opening scene starts as Pat is being released from the Karel psychiatric facility in Baltimore. Pat was institutionalized after he walked in on his wife and the history teacher having an affair in the shower, blacked out, and beat the man nearly to death. He is ordered to attend therapy as part of his plea bargain and release deal. Even though medication is almost required to treat his condition, Pat decides it is better to change his outlook on life and find the silver linings, he even shouts his motto excelsior meaning always upward (Excelsior dictionary definition). To me this meant, finding the positive in every negative situation. However, even though it sounds good on the surface, it can also be used as a crutch to fuel self delusion. Pat ends up being set up on a dinner date in order to get over the fact that his wife has since moved. After the dinner date, Pat finds himself spending much time with Tiffany, another main character with a mental illness, who he enters a dance competition with and ends up falling for. • 8. The Conflict Of The Independent Republic Of Azerbaijan University did not articulate any references to Azeri nationalism in their slogans. Obviously, the Azeri community is more likely to play a role in determining the future direction of Iran s political evolution than in igniting an ethnically based separatist movement. Having proven its centuries long loyalty to the Iranian state and territorial integrity, Azeris are also likely to work within the current political system to address their grievances. Although the emergence of the independent Republic of Azerbaijanhas been a source of Azeri ethnic pride, it has not generated popular support from the Iranian Azeri community to join Azerbaijan. While many Azeris admit to maintaining cultural bonds with their brethren in the Republic of Azerbaijan, such ties do not translate into aspirations to separate from a state in which they already exercise tremendous influence, with many of them occupying high level government positions. The demands of the Azeri minority remain quite modest, focusing primarily on the expansion of cultural freedoms. For instance, local control over Azeri language broadcasting, representation in local government, and the promotion of the Azeri language at all levels of education, including the university level. In light of the regime s need to avoid exacerbating dual loyalties inside its borders and the prominent role Azeris play in the government and the business community, the Iranian government is likely to meet their demands. • 9. Jane Austen And Tom Jones Emma, which was published in 1815, by Jane Austen and Tom Jones, published in 1749, by Henry Fielding are novels that emphasize the impact that one s rank in the social ladder has on their reputation. Emma Woodhouse is high in the social ladder, and as a result, is loved, respected, and maintains a good reputation, even though her character traits aren t wonderful. She is a selfish and impulsive, yet, that is overlooked because of her reputation. Tom Jones is impulsive, but always has the best interest at heart, and is always looking to help people. Despite his efforts, because of his class, he has a poor reputation. Both novels show what an impact someone s rank in the social class had in these period times, and that their true character... (118) This gives the impression to the reader that Tom Jones is not an honorable man, and we shouldn t respect him or his actions throughout the novel. A similar flaw between Tom and Emmais the fact that both are impulsive with their actions. This happens multiple times in Emma, especially when she tries to play matchmaker. This is partially due to the fact that she is unable to see reality clearly, which is what happens during her attempt at bringing Harriet and Mr. Elton together. Data mining processes are essential to developing business intelligence. According to a study by IBM, 2.5 quintillion bytes of data are created every day. This total includes everything from photos and social media posts to word processing files, financial records and Snap chats. The objective of data miningis to use the enormous amount of information being produced to understand trends, accumulate additional new information, and develop better processes and services based on research, behavior, and preferences Data mining is defined as the examining of large databases of information in order to generate new information. Nearly every transaction or interaction leaves a data signature that is captured and stored. Data mining is a means of automating the process of analyzing the patterns of data according to different categories. The information is then sorted, collected and assembled into data warehouses for more efficient analysis by algorithms and used to facilitate business decisions. Sophisticated mathematical algorithms are used to segment the data and evaluate the probability of future events. The major steps involved in a data mining process are to first extract, transform and load the data into a data warehouse, then store and manage the data in databases; the data will then be given to analysts to be processed using application software and finally the analyzed data will be presented ... • 13. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Kombucha Kombucha is a fermented tea beverage originating from China during the Tsin Dynasty (approximately 220 BC) and is typically made by using green or black tea leaves. These leaves come from the evergreen shrub Camellia sinensis which is endogenous to Southeast Asia. The different categories of tea (green black) are due to the varying levels of oxidation that the leaves go through during processing, with green teabeing one of the least oxidised and black tea being the most oxidised/processed. Kombucha is made up of four basic components tea, sugar, yeastand bacteria and together they form a sweet, slightly fizzy, sharp tasting drink which many people believe has a variety of health benefits, ranging from improving mood stability to managing... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At this point the sweet tea solution is essentially sterile due to the use of boiling water. In order to ensure that the symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast(s) is not denatured by the temperature of the tea solution, the tea base is allowed to cool. Adding the S.C.O.B.Y. while the tea base is still near boiling point will damage or even kill the microorganisms in the starter S.C.O.B.Y and lead to an unsuccessful fermentation. The poly microbial community associated with kombucha is temperature and pH sensitive and will not reproduce if either one or both of these environmental factors are at an incorrect level. With regard to temperature the tea solution needs to be at the very most below 32В°C before adding the starter S.C.O.B.Y. The optimum temperature for a kombucha fermentation is 25В°C. Additionally it should be noted that refrigerating the tea solution will send the S.C.O.B.Y. into dormancy as the tea solution would be too cold and will result in a prolonged and staggered fermentation. The optimal temperature range for a kombucha fermentation is between 25В°C and 32В°C which is ideal for S.C.O.B.Y. microorganisms belonging to the bacterial genera of Acetobacter, Lactobacillus and Gluconacetobacter, also yeast species belonging to the Zygosaccharomyces genus, and specifically Zygosaccharomyces kombuchaensis, thrive at these temperatures. The bacteria present in kombucha are acidophiles and flourish in a low pH environment, generally the teas used for a kombucha fermentation range in pH from 2.9 to 6.3 (add reference) but these tea bases may not be at an optimal pH range to support the growth of Lactobacilli, Acetobacter and Gluconacetobacter species, namely Gluconacetobacter kombuchae, which will grow at a pH of 5.0 to 6.3. The dispute would be settled by a duel leaving one man unharmed and the other fatally wounded with less than a day to live. The names of the two men were Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr. I have participated in sports since a young age, and I have discovered that a vast majority of my relationships have been made through the sports world. I can talk about sports all day long. My obsession started at a young age. The first memory I have of watching sports was on February 1st, 2004. That was the date of Super Bowl 38. Sometimes I would beg other kids dads to throw to me because their kids couldn t throw it hard enough or far enough. When I was tired and couldn t play any more football, I would come home and play Madden. I played Madden religiously. I played with every NFL team and learned as many names as I could. The thing that captivated me about Madden was the player ratings. Each player had numeric attributes numbered from 25 to 99 that affected their overall rating. The ratings included speed, strength, acceleration, agility, catching, tackling, and awareness. My favorite thing to do was to look through the numbers. I slowly memorized the names of hundreds of NFL players and used the attributes to determine what type of player they were. I used a composition notebook to write down names of my favorite players. In addition to this, hoodoo and Voodoo are often used synonymously, creating further confusion for the general public with little knowledge of the true nature of hoodoo and the religious tradition of Voodoo. Despite these inconsistencies with reality, the focus on the darker elements and the problematic identification seems to create even more commercial appeal for Voodoo and ... The dictionary however, is not always correct because anyone in society, whether young or old, man or woman, can be a feminist. When I look at America today, I would place a majority of men and woman under the passive feminist category. When I think of a feminist I think of someone such as Susan B. Anthony, who did something regarding women s rights and made a positive change within society. In today s society, technology regulates much of our daily life and technology is where people go to voice their opinions about feminist ideals. Often times, celebrities will tweet about how woman can stand alone from men and how woman should not be sent home for what they wear because it could distract a male classmate. Those tweets circulate for a while but are soon forgotten. Those celebrities who type those messages are not an active feminist, they are simply an American utilizing their right of freedom of press under the First Amendment. Anyone can be a feminist, but to be a feminist he or she needs to do more than tweet to create change. Circulating the idea is a minimal step, one needs to advocate the issue on a more public level to create change for woman and therefore be considered an active feminist. Some celebrities often argue for woman having more equality with men and their ideals follow feminist s ideals, but they deny ever associating themselves with the word. These people feel that if they say they are a feminist than, they are saying that woman are better and more superior then men. Our democratic republic relies on the organized and informed voter to maintain a balance of control between the people and the government. This is argued in Thomas Edison s 10th federalist paper in which he states, If a faction consists of less than a majority, relief is supplied by the republican principle, which enables the majority to defeat its sinister views by regular vote... it will be unable to execute and mask its violence under the forms of the Constitution. Interestingly, in his short story, The Man of the Crowd, Edgar Allan Poe includes a first person narrator who also seems to be on the look out for anything out of the ordinary. While he may not reveal himself as a penny journalist, this narrator certainly plays the part of one as he singles out an old man making a devious gesture in the crowd and begins to speculate about his possible criminal intentions. Like a nosy penny tabloid reporter hungry for a juicy lead, the narrator follows the old man into the night, hoping, if not to catch him in an act of crime, then to fit his behaviors into the mold of criminality. Interestingly, while the old man does in fact turn out to be nothing more than an innocent wanderer of the streets, the narrator still proceeds to formulate his own exaggerated conclusions about the old man s supposed criminal intentions. The Trope Of The Sphere Interestingly, it is via Borges, a well known master in the creation of literary labyrinths, that we are able to find several possible explanations for these inner circularities, for instance, through his recurrent references to the trope of the sphere. Take some of the short fictions that constitute his 1941 volume The Garden of Forking Paths, namely Lottery in Babylon and The Library of Babel . Not only does Borges tell us that the Babylonians obey the dictates of chance, surrender their lives, their hopes, their nameless terror to it, but it never occurs to them to delve into its labyrinthine laws or the revolving spheres that manifest its workings (Borges 1998: 104; emphasis added), but also his Library of Babel is a sphere whose exact center is any hexagon and whose circumference is unattainable (113). Moreover, the trope of the sphere whose center is everywhere and its circumference nowhere would be later analysed by Borges in an essay titled Pascal s Sphere [1951]. For instance, In the Premier Chagrin, translated as The First Grief, Knight paints two healthy girls conversing on a stonewall in front of gorgeous fields. At first, it appears as merely a pretty painting that is nicely contrasted to show depth and realism. Yet, with a closer look, this contrast in the colors and lines of the landscape and the figures creates tension to suggest the painter s conflict between longing for serene freedom and feeling trapped within the stiff society. Disillusion In James Windy s Exotic Hawaii Exotic Hawaii is a flyspeck in a vast ocean, a land of adventure, exploration and derring do that has provided inspiration for countless mystery and adventure tales. Here are a few more. Our monthlong, once a year retreat to Oahu, Hawaii is apparently not enough adventure for some of the inanimate accoutrements that travel with us. Maybe a collusion, maybe conspiracy or possibly it s just coincidence but we ve experienced a pattern of abandonment and treason amongst some of our belongings. There s even some indication that there s been some collusion with the locals who, it appears, have provided aid to abet their nefarious plans. • 41. What Are The Pros And Cons Of Federal Budgets The Balancing of State Federal Budgets The purpose of this paper is to analyze and determine the pros and cons of a balanced vs unbalanced financial system by comparing the nature of state budgets to the federal budget. States and local governments operate within the parameters of a balanced annual budget where their total expenditures equal their total revenues generated; however, a surplus can occur when their revenues exceed their expenditures as well as a fiscal deficit when their expenditures exceed their revenues. When state or local governments experience a fiscal deficit due to hardship like a natural disaster, they can petition the federal government for funding in order to reconcile their budgets. However, the federal government ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore, the federal government has an artificially designated borrowing threshold beyond which the government is not authorized to borrow funds in order to manage over spending that is contributing to the fiscal deficit and this threshold is referred to as the national debt ceiling (Ross, 2015). The federal government has the ability to raise its own debt ceiling if needed with the approval of congress. This practice is largely in place because the federal government has the authority to print money and issue currency in order to help regulate the economy whereas this is out of state and local government s jurisdiction of fiscal power. When the federal government is approaching its debit ceiling, it will then borrow money in the form of treasury bonds in order to help balance the deficit spending. These treasury bonds are purchased by individuals, corporations, and other countries like China amongst other entities (Ross, 2015). • 43. Caloric Intake Of A Typical Meal At The Olive Garden I can consume 3373 Calories per day because of my above average height, my weight, my young age, and my gender (male). Even though I can consume a lot of Calories, I still need to be aware of what I eat. One of my favorite restaurants is the Olive Garden, thus I am going to compare the caloric intake of a typical meal at the Olive Garden with my estimated caloric needs. A meal that I typically have is the chicken parmigiana, the chicken and gnocchi soup, and a raspberry lemonade. The chicken parmigiana has 1050 Calories, the chicken and gnocchi soup has 250 Calories, and a raspberry lemonade has 170 Calories; with a total of 1,470 Calories for the entire meal. This means that I would have 1,903 Calories leftover for my day. This is a lot of Calories leftover, but at the same time its not if the Calories I consumed were empty Calories, or if I ate out for my previous meals. Empty Calories add to the total amount of Calories without supplying the nutrients that I need. Undoubtedly Calories from restaurants add more to the empty Calories of my diet without supplying me with needed nutrients, than if I would just eat at home. The meal that I ate at the Olive Garden mainly had fat and sodium, with small amounts of fiber and vegetables. So a third of all my Calories that I can consume would go towards a meal that provides no sources of major much needed nutrients. • 44. Success and Failure in Organizational Change To cite this article: Bernard Burnes Philip Jackson (2011): Success and Failure In Organizational Change: An Exploration of the Role of Values, Journal of Change Management, ABSTRACT One of the most remarkable aspects of organizational change efforts is their low success rate. There is substantial evidence that some 70% of all change initiatives fail. This article explores the argument that a potentially signiп¬Ѓcant reason for this is a lack of alignment between the value system of the change intervention and of those members of an organization undergoing the change. In order to test this assertion, the article begins by reviewing the change literature with regard to the impact of values on success and failure. It then examines Graves ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the problem with such explanations is that implicitly or explicitly they assume that there is a one best way to manage change and that failure arises from not adhering to it (Burnes, 1996). Confusingly, there are quite a few one best way approaches to change (Collins, 1998; By, 2005). For example, Kanter (Kanter et al., 1992) offered her 10 commandments for successful change, Pugh (1993) has his four principles of change and Kotter (1996) put forward his eight step model. Two, however, have stood out from the rest. From the 1950s to the 1970s, organization development (OD) tended to be seen as the best way to manage change (French and Bell, 1999; Cummings and Worley, 2005). In the 1980s and 1990s, the emergent/processual approach came to dominate the п¬Ѓeld, at least among academics (Dawson, 1994; Orlikowski, 1996; Weick, 2000). Nevertheless, in recent years there has been a growing recognition that one or even two approaches to change cannot cover the vast variety of change situations (Storey, 1992; Stickland, 1998; Pettigrew, 2000; Burnes, 2009a). As Dunphy and Stace (1993, p. 905) argued: . . . managers and consultants need a model of change that is essentially a situational or contingency model, one that indicates how to vary change strategies to achieve optimum п¬Ѓt with the changing environment. • 49. Purpose And Purpose In The Endurance How Relationship, Purpose, and Cheerfulness Can Make A Difference To Survive. The Endurance is about the struggle of 28 men who journey through the Antarctic. Shackleton was able to recruit men to sail on the Endurance to the Antarctic and cross by foot. The men were ready for adventure and excited to begin the journey with haste, not realizing that they were going to encounter the struggles of survival. There were three ways that they were able to overcome adversity: strong relationships, purpose, and cheerfulness. Having a strong relationship with peers is essential for the times of crisis. During the long polar nights, the crew on board the Belgica suffered from insanity and many lost their lives due to isolation. The crewmembers that were on the Endurance had the reverse effect. They had the desire to get to know each other even though their characters were contrasting, and they began to draw closer to each other by talking and sharing experiences. On the Belgica, there was no relationship between the men, and even one man feared that his crewmates wanted to kill him. The crewmembers of the Endurance valued relationships and were able to survive the polar nights. Even in the Bible, God gave Adam a wife because He knew that it was better for Adam. Goffman believed that there were stages in which we performed our assigned roles such as front stage and back stage. The front stage is wherever we deliver our lines for example, taking the role of your occupation. The back stage is a place we can relax, have some privacy, and reflect from the front stage. For example, being in your bedroom not having to worry about a thing and being able to discuss what happened on the front stage. This can affect how we present ourselves because when we re in the front stage we re putting up in act to present our self to whoever our audience is.
