The workplace is ever changing. There are currently four generations in the work environment
today, and because of longer life expectancies it will soon by five as the youngest generation enters
the workforce joining the current four. Generational transitions in the work environment cause the
shift of power to be handed from one generation to the next. These transitions are complex but they
have never bypassed a generation. Today s workplace is overlooking an entire generation, that
generation is Generation X. Current power holders, Boomers, are bypassing Generation X and
handing the reins to Millennials. Failing to utilize Generation X is a mistake, and managers can

Mom is in the hospital again, my father said to me over the phone one evening this past April.
Having spent the majority of that day at work counseling and planning for a client with suicidal
ideation, my father s phone call instantly put me on alert. Unfortunately, this was not the first time I
received this call regarding my mother. Manic depression has been a lifelong battle and this was
her third suicide attempt. However this time was different; this time, I knew how to react and how
to help her.
My undergraduate majors at Syracuse University were psychology and forensic science. As part of
the curriculum, I took a variety of classes such as abnormal psychology and forensic mental health,
all of which taught me a great deal about mental illness. Book knowledge in hand, I then applied

Vertigo and His Girl Friday
The films Vertigo and His Girl Friday, directed by Alfred Hitchcock and Howard Hawks
respectively, are good representations of classical cinema. A stigma associated with classical
cinema is the film s portrayal of women. Feminist film theorists believe that the male protagonist
play a more prominent role while women are only something to be looked at and acted upon. Both
films possess a male and a female protagonist. His Girl Fridaycasts Cary Grant as a cunning
newspaper editor named Walter Burns, as well as Rosalind Russellas former reporter and former
wife of Walter, Hildy Johnson. Vertigo stars James Stewart as a former detective named Scottie
Ferguson, and Kim Novak as Madeleine Ester, a womanScottie is hired to investigate. Both films
challenge the feminist s hypothesis with powerful and intelligent women who have some control
over men in the film. Yet in both films the male protagonist ultimately has control over the
female even though the stigma is tested throughout the entirety of both films. In the film His
Girl Friday, Hildy Johnson is an ex reporter whose goal is to settle down and have a normal life
with her fiancГ© Bruce Baldwin. She returns to tell Walter that she is finished reporting forever
but Walter s goal is to make her a reporter again and eventually remarry her. Hildy is a beautiful
woman and steals every scene she is in, other than perhaps the scenes involving Walter. In an early

Pay Equity Laws On The Basis Of Sex Essay
Those states that have pay equity laws on their books can be divided into four categories that
each mirror in part the language of federal statutes and proposed legislation. As of November
2016, forty five states have enacted a statutory provision prohibiting wage discrimination on the
basis of sex. Alabama and Mississippi have no equal pay statutory provisions. The District of
Columbia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Utah, and Wisconsin do not have specific prohibitions
against wage discrimination on the basis of sex; rather, statutes in those four states and the
District of Columbia have more general employment discrimination prohibitions. Despite the fact
that a majority of states have enacted some form of pay equity statutory provisions, statutory
language differentiates those states in four significant ways. Some of these differences
incorporate parts of the standards set out in various pieces of the aforementioned federal
legislation. The first two categories paint a broad picture of the context of the pay equity
landscape in their respective states. First, some statutes feature provisions specifically tailored to
wage discrimination on the basis of sex, while others include sex within a list of characteristics
that employers in those states are prohibited from using as the basis for wage discrepancies.
