Ema 01 Which Is More Important in Explaining the Public...
TASK 1 OPTION 2 HISTORY
Which is more important in explaining the public support for Chartism: economic circumstances, or
the tradition of radical politics?
To explain the rise of the chartist political movement and the public support it received we need to
consider the two main contributing factors at the time. Historians like Asa Briggs, W.W. Rostow and
Gareth Steadman Jones take differing views on which was the most important explanation for the
dramatic rise in public support for the chartist movement. Briggs agreed with an economic based
reason and Steadman Jones agreed with the radical new policies that Chartism offered being the main
reason for the growth in support for the movement. This essay will explore these two views ... Show

The general feel of the working class was expressed in the chartist newspaper the morning chronicle
we require justice before charity . (Morning Chronicle may 3rd 1842). This was taken from a banner
in the crowd of supporters. The speaker in the extract reflects the sentiment of the banner and the
feeling of the crowd at the rally. This shows how political motivations were a major factor in the
growth of Chartism and how the chartists used public feeling to garner support.
In conclusion to explain the growth and mass support for Chartism and the rise of the political
movement which gripped the nation A mix of both economic problems combined with radical political
ideas left a nation wanting change the Chartists used the economic situation to tailor support for their
cause and increase the idea that political change would improve conditions for the working classes.
Chartism would not have had the same effect without a combination of these 2 factors.

Donald Trump Beliefs
We live in this world conforming to rooted values and faiths that direct our knowledge of what is right
and what is wrong, and which inspires us to generate a sense of the world in distinct approach. We
attain and develop into our beliefs, and which are constructed into countless factors, including the
media, family, friends, and one s culture. With these factors, we may be able to distinguish and
analyze a few beliefs and values, and even other different factors may construct the decisions we make
without even being aware of them. Although, even with or without that sense of consciousness, morals
and ones faith plays a vital role in the factor of our lifestyle, actions, and treatment of others. The

The American people play a factor into why the US is falling short of its democratic ideals. There are
people who are losing their moral values and social media is a vital factor as to why people have been
encouraged to the loss of moral values. It is very simple and easy for one to write something negative
that can invade an individual s privacy and against one s religion. For example, political leader Donald
Trump uses Twitter as a place to share his thoughts, and opinions about certain beliefs and factors.
Social Media is very simple and just takes a click of a button to post anything for the world to see. The
powerful things the media can create are alarming and needs to be viewed with more consideration to
protect individual principled values. In fact, people should be more conscious of how social media and
the web brings influence into other s lives. But, although it may suggest that the only values that are
held by our society is the idea of fulfillment, as if people do not care about individual actions affecting
others. In present day, all things are about instantaneous fulfillment. For instance, I have the power
and ability to do whatever I please to anybody, but they better not do it back to me. The example
above demonstrates the clear mentality that is being

Does Watching TV Make Us Smarter
In his essay, Does Watching TV Make Us Stupid? Nigel Barber argues that the effect of TV on a child
s intelligence has to do with their social class, meaning that children in lower social classes who watch
TV often come to be more intelligent than their counterparts who don t watch TV and vice versa.
Barber then goes onto write that children in more well to do countries become smarter because they
have more access to mass media, which stimulates their brain. So, to answer his title s question,
Barber does not think that TV makes us stupid. There are many opinions on this topic. Steven Johnson
shares his opinion in his essay, Watching TV Makes You Smarter . In his essay Johnson argues that TV
does make us smarter for many reasons. The first being that society is becoming more demanding in
the amount and complexity of the content received from TV shows, which Johnson calls the Sleeper
Curve. With this rise of complexity comes three elements: multiple threads, flashing arrows, and
social networks. All of which Johnson goes into detail about how they have improved TV over time,
making the public smarter. Although there are many similarities between the two authors there are
many more differences. The clearest differences between Barber s Does Watching TV Make Us
Stupid? and Johnson s Watching TV Makes You Smarter are the titles, generalizations they make, and
most importantly what and why they think TV makes us smarter. The first difference in Barber s and
Johnson s

Argumentative Essay On Music Education
One of my biggest passions in life has been advocating for music education. This takes after my father
who does this for a living. Defending why music education is important is oddly a very difficult task.
The issue with this topic, is that there is no real argument saying that the arts are not important.
However, when it comes down to budget cuts and funding the arts always seem to get the boot first.
There are plenty of ways to effectively defend music education, yet so many people take the wrong
pathway and preach what they think the general public wants to hear. People will express how taking
music classes helps with test scores and overall GPA, when in reality this is not why we should be
defending why music is important. My project serves to help other music advocates truly understand
why this argument is ineffective. Do not get me wrong, the studies have proven how music can
positively affect the brain and that music students tend to do better on standardized testing. This is a
phenomenal discovery that was only proven to be true a few years ago. However, people are using this
fact as their main argument and people who are not affiliated with the arts are getting this perception
that music is only important to help with test scores. Recently, music was defined as a core subject.
When people believe that music is only important because it helps with test scores that is the
equivalent of saying that effective writing class is only useful to help with writing scientific
conclusions. We live in a test driven society where students are measured by a number on a test rather
than what they have to offer outside of the classroom. There are an abundance of examples when
people have come up to defend music education by explaining how much it helps with test scores.
One of the most iconic articles was done by PBS (Public Broadcasting Station). PBS released an
article with the benefits of music and the first comment in the article was, Research has found that
learning music facilitates learning other subjects and enhances skills that children inevitably use in
other areas. (Insert Cite) At first glance someone would perceive this as a correct and effective
argument. But in reality it is vague, confusing and

Data Management, Data, Warehousing, And Warehousing Essay
There are many different areas in information systems to study. Data management, data mining, data
warehousing, information management, information security, information assurance, healthcare
informatics and bioinformatics are just a small sample of some of the different areas of study that will
be examined in this paper. Also included in this paper are answers to questions posed by the rubric for
this assignment.
Data management, mining, and warehousing all deal with data in different ways. Data management
establishes the groundwork for an organization to structure, regulate, process, and store data that they
acquire (Rouse, 2016). Data management also encompasses the creation of definitions and standards
for the acquired data which will be adhered to throughout the organization (Definition of: Data
management, 2016).
Data mining is [t]he process of finding significant, previously unknown, and potentially valuable
knowledge hidden in data (Gordon, 2007). Organizations use data mining to sift through massive
quantities of raw data in order to find patterns and relationships that will ultimately be used for
business purposes (Definition of: Data mining, 2016). Organizations mainly use data mining to get a
better idea of their customer s purchasing habits, product preferences, etc. in order to create sales
tactics targeted at a certain customer demographic (Definition of: Data management, 2016).
Data warehouses are huge repositories where data from various sources all

Essay On Gay Adoption
Homosexuality defined as being sexually attracted to one s own gender has incessantly been a
compelling social issue. A majority of society sees the wrong sexual orientation as evil or unhuman,
regardless of character content. In April 1952, the American Psychiatric Association even labeled
homosexuality as a mental disorder. Today, same sex relationships have been normalized and live life
as ordinary people, yet treated as second class citizens. This treatment by society has significantly
limited the basic human rights of these individuals, including parenthood. Should LGBTQ+ be able to
adopt children? Do gay parents and guardians effect children negatively? Adoption is a lengthy
process of legally accepting responsibilities of a non biological child. While adoption is usually
governed by laws that vary from state to state, but there are also federal regulations. These federal
laws are set in place to provide clarity on who can and cannot adopt, parental rights, consent, the best
interest of the adoptees, and the confidentiality of the adoption. Preceding the adoption process,
applicants of every state must undergo an extensive background check, mental health analysis, an
examination of the household s members, and the finances of the applicant. About 51,000 American
children are for adoption each year, according to pregnantpause.com. This high rate subsequently
leads to system slipups criminals and rather undesirable, unfit parents adopt

The Similarities Between Lucius And The Tale Of Cupid And...
Many historical and mythological accounts of Graeco Roman history in the classical period, involved
tales of magic, worship of the gods, and emphasised the value society placed on devotion to religion.
These societal beliefs and practices became evident in the literature of Greek and Roman societies,
where its use, reach, and consequences was illustrated. In the only surviving Roman novel of the 2nd
century AD, Apuleius Metamorphoses, readers encounter a Greek nobleman, named Lucius, whose
insatiable curiosity leads him to explore magic. His over enthusiasm to intimately experience and
learn about magic, accidentally causes his transformation into an ass, causing him to be subjected to a
range of vulgar, exploitive, and lustful debaucheries on his path to become human again.
This essay will explore how Lucius s insatiable curiosity and thirst for forbidden knowledge causes
him to become a victim of magic, and how religion delivers him from its dangerous realms. Finally,
this essay will comment on the contested approaches to interpreting the final book of the novel.
In Books I X of the novel, Lucius, the protagonist, is revealed to have an incredible curiosity of
forbidden knowledge, and that adds to his determinism to experience magic himself. It is important to

Cuban Immigrants And The Cuban Adjustment Act Essay
INTRODUCTION:
Even though Cuba is a little under 100 miles away from the United States, the relationship between
the two countries has created an atmosphere full of tension and perpetual mistrust. When Fidel Castro
decided to align Cuba with the U.S.S.R. and become a communist country, the United States of
America was stunned and highly insulted. Because of their relationship, both countries have played a
back and forth game of trying to outdo the other. This game and state of affairs in Cuba has created a
large influx of Cuban immigrants looking for better opportunities and trying to escape poverty and
persecution. This paper will be focusing on Cuban immigrants and examining different Cuban
immigration laws, which allowed them to easily become United States citizens, including; the Cuban
Adjustment Act, The Immigration and Nationality Act Amendments of 1976 and the Wet Foot, Dry
Foot Policy. It will also discuss whether the Cuban immigration laws are unfair to other foreign
immigrants and whether the laws are relevant today. Finally, we will be considering the future and try
to predict how the laws will change with the changing diplomatic relations between Cuba and the
United States and the imminent removal of the Embargo Act.

The Cuban Adjustment Act was enacted in 1966. The Act allowed illegal Cuban immigrants, who
were already living in the United States for two years prior, to easily gain their citizenship. It also fast

ranked 9th in nominal GDP but 35 years later it s now ranked 2nd in the nominal GDP and been the
world s manufacturing hub. In recent years, China s modernization propelled the tertiary sector and in
2013, it became the largest category of GDP with a share of 46.1%, while the secondary sector still
accounted for a sizeable, 45% of the country s total output. Meanwhile, the primary sector s weight in

Killing the Killer Whale Essay
Orcas, also known as killer whales, are amazingly intelligent and are a top predator, much like
humans. However, when the top predator of the ocean collides with the top predator of land, the
situation can become fatal for both humans and the whales. Holding these incredibly massive marine
animals in captivity is not only inhumane and detrimental to the whale s health, but also a potentially
fatal activity for humans to participate in. Orca trafficking is the equivalent of human trafficking:
kidnapping a child or pup from the mother to be used for the entertainment of others. Killer whales are
family oriented, and all of a mother s offspring stay with her their entire lives (spong). When a pup is

After drilling of the teeth, the area must be washed thoroughly every day for the rest of the particular

normal bacterial flora in the gut, malnutrition, and susceptibility of the host to opportunistic pathogens
such as fungi and yeast. The orcas also get a great deal of sunburn because there is no protection from
it in such a shallow pool. The sunburn can cause cataracts among other things (Jett, Jeffery). Keeping
the orcas in the wild would have prevented all the pain and suffering captivity has caused these
whales. In captivity, killer whales become very aggressive which has led to many trainer deaths. The
first death Tilikum was involved in occurred at Sea land. During training, he was starved as
punishment and bullied by other whales, which added to the psychosis he had already experienced. On
February 20, 1991 during a show the trainer fell in the pool. Tilikum immediately pulled her down and
back up to the surface repeatedly. He finally did this enough that she died. After her death, Sea Land
closed down and Tilikum was sold to Sea World. After arriving at Sea World, Tilikum was still being
bullied by other whales. He was finally isolated from the others and left alone the majority of the time.

Essay on The Heroic Slave of Amistad
In 1997 a movie called Amistad depicted the true story of a group of Africans that were taken from
their families and forced into slavery. Although the movie was heavily criticized for it s inaccurate tale
of the terrible ordeal, it gave the story world renowned attention. The real story had more drama and
tearjerker parts then the movie did. If the movie ever gets remade, hopefully this time it follows the
facts exactly. A man named Sengbe Pieh, commonly known in the United States as Jose Cinque, was

The Theme Of Antisemitism In Night Of Surrender
I think Night of Surrender serves to showcase the difficulty Holocaust survivors faced when
attempting to transition back into the regular world. This tension faced by all Jewish survivors after
World War 2 is the central theme of the story. We see the female protagonist struggle with trying to
find happiness after staying relatively safe during the Holocaust. I should be happy to have survived,
but I wasn t happy, and I was upset to be so sad (Fink 93). The woman cannot seem to escape her past
even on such a celebratory night the night of the surrender. She goes on to reveal herself as Jewish and
talks about her struggle with her significant other Mike, saying Do you know what it means to live in
fear, lying, never speaking your own language. Or thinking with your own brain, or looking with your
own eyes? (Fink 100). I think Fink is showing us that it s easy to think liberation brought about pure
happiness for the Jewish people which enabled them to live happy fulfilling lives, however many were
hurt emotionally beyond repair by the Nazi regime. What most startles me about this piece is the idea
that even after the war people felt as if they had to hide their Jewish faith out of fear of Antisemitism. I
liked how this story showcased the different viewpoints on Judaism during the time. While
Antisemitism thrived in Europe, Mike who was an American didn t seem to care at all that Ann was
Jewish. The quote I think is worth discussing is when Ann states My knowledge of

Analysis Of Conflict In The Bullet In The Brain By Tobias...
Analysis of Conflict In the short story, The Bullet in the Brain, by Tobias Wolff, we meet a book critic
who ends up meeting his demise as a result of being sarcastic with a bank robber who is not on the
same educational level as Anders. The conflict of the story is that experiences throughout Anders life
has hardened him and made him jaded. Which makes Anders pessimistic and dark to people around
him.
One of the first examples in this short story by Wolff, conveying an example of how life has hardened
Anders and how he reacts to daily situations with a different perspective .In this quote, Anders is
sarcastically equating the lane closing to these terrible things as a result of the two ladies complaining
about one of the tellers closing her lane at the bank, Damned unfair, he said. Tragic really. If they re
not chopping off the wrong leg, or bombing your ancestral village, They re closing their positions...
Unforgiveable, Anders said. Heaven will take note. (1). In this excerpt from the book, Anders is being
satirical to these ladies, because of how he believes they are being overdramatic about a small thing,
that is a minor inconvenience in the grand scheme of things. I definitely have been on both sides of
this encounter, in other places, that are pretty minor, yet I overreacted and realized how stupid it was
or thought the other person was being dramatic about a small annoyance.

Analysis Of The Article Of Margery Kempe
The Woman in White: Reduction to Appearance Body in;
The Book of Margery Kempe by Margery Kempe
For all of time society has been incredibly judgmental of women s clothing, among every other aspect
of their lives. The Medieval time period was restrictive towards women s clothing and bodies due to
widespread beliefs that women must be held to a higher standard. Women were taught to be bashful
when it came to their bodies during the Medieval time period, as explained in Representation of
Women s Emotions in Medieval and Early Modern Culture by Lisa Renee Perfetti. Angelic or in
mourning, Margery Kemp s change in attire between white and black impacts her relations with those
around her. The Book of Margery Kempe by Margery Kempe portrays the reduction to appearance
and body based on Margery s attire.
Reduction to Body, the treatment of a person as identified with their body, or body parts (feminist
perspectives on objectification), can be seen throughout Medieval England and Margery Kempe s
autobiography. The female body especially, has undergone immense scrutiny for simply existing,
genitelia often referred to as shamefuls (Allen 191). Margery s disinterest in being sexual is based on
the idea that God will love her more if she were to refrain from sex, just as a virgin might. But this
may not be her only encouragement because there are certain occasions when the women s shame is
strictly social (Allen 193). Margery may be choosing to live chastely with John for the

Dystopian Film, Divergent, And Children Of Men
Children of Men tells the story of illegal immigrants trying to find a place of refuge or safety within
the United Kingdom. In another dystopian film, Divergent, the characters live in a world that is
divided into five factions which is supposed to prevent future war. In both films, the government has
an impact on the characters. In Children of men it has the characteristics of contemporary society
while in Divergent it has both characteristics of a communist and capitalist societies. But what they
both have in common is that in each film it shows images of war weather it would be mental or
physical. Survival and revolution are shown to have a role in each film differently. Both films relay
the idea of redemption and hope for the future while having a dystopia setting.
Alfonso Cuaron, the director of the film Children of Men, relays a contemporary society by having the
movie based in the future, and he shows changes of the world and international political institutions.
How the future is not all the fancy technology and the society is broken because everything revolves
around the elimination of immigrants. With that it is causing the government to turn into a police state

U.s Law On Public Sector
A REVISION OF THE CURRENT IMPACT OF US LAW ON PUBLIC SECTOR (May focus on
CRA, ADEA, FLSA, ADAA, IDEA, FMLA) Laws are basically rules that bind all people and help
protect general safety in a community, organization, association, team etc. Laws also help to enforce
all individual rights as citizens. One important thing to know is that laws are different across different
regions, states and countries. The most important thing to know about any place, organization,
community and country is the laws that govern it. State law for driving at a safe speed in Pennsylvania
is 65m/hr when driving in highway. If someone drive above 65m/hr and his caught, he will be found
guilty of the law and he will be charge. In essence, laws help to maintain orderliness and protection of
human rights. U.S law helps to impact positively the right of citizens in public sector and also helps
promote equality among its citizens (Publications.Usa.gov, 2016). The high rate of discrimination and
favoritism in the past has seriously been tackled and reduced to minimum. Law has helped all
individuals to be given fair hearing to employment. Law helps protect all citizens from discrimination
due to their race, age, gender or even disability. The law has no respect for any individual, all is
subject to act under the law without any preference or favoritism. All citizens are governed by law no
matter his or her position in the society. Law governs all, and no one is above the law. Former

Analysis Of A Farewell To Arms
A Farewell to Arms is a novel written by Ernest Hemingway. The book setting is in Italy during World
War I, along the border between Italy and the Austro Hungarian Empire. The novel focus on a tragic
love story between Lieutenant Frederic Henry and British nurse Catherine Barkley. Though many
obstacles, the two lovers always find a way to stay together. The novel s ending wasn t the best but in
the end, they were star crossed lovers. Hemingway was best known for this novel as to be one of the
best novel that he has ever written. The novel is recognized by its style, characterization, and tragedy.
Throughout the novel, Hemingway does a great job at introducing each character and their relation to
the war. He s very descriptive when it come to the interaction between the two main characters.
However, his transition from one chapter to another was sometimes confusing and not as descriptive.
For example, each chapter he would state the next morning or the next afternoon but he doesn t give
us the specific date or the time of the day. This makes the readers wonder if Hemingway is telling the
truth about the events of the war or not. Since its past tense and is being told through a narrative novel,
we can t trust whether Hemingway is leaving out any detail of the events because there is such a big
time gap between when it was told and when the book was written. We can t say that Frederick was
taking notes on every event that occurred but we can only trust that he s telling the truth. Furthermore,
each time he transitions from each chapter and book, he completely changes the setting and mood of
the story. This confuses some readers and makes them not wanting to continue on reading the novel.
He also gave us descriptive information regarding to the war as well. For example, in chapter 2 it
stated:
The next year there were many victories. The mountain that was beyond the valley and the hillside
where the chestnut forest grew was captured and there were victories beyond the plain on the plateau
to the south and we crossed the river in August and lived in a house in Gorizia that had a fountain and
many thick shady trees in a walled garden and a wistaria vine purple on the side of the house. Now

Child Soldiers in India
The military use of young children takes three distinct forms: children can take direct part in hostilities
(child soldiers), or they can be used in support roles such as porters, spies, messengers, look outs, and
sexual slaves; or they can be used for political advantage either as human shields or in propaganda.
Throughout history and in many cultures, children have been extensively involved in military
campaigns even when such practices were supposedly against cultural morals. Since the 1970s a
number of international conventions have come into effect that try to limit the participation of children
in armed conflicts, nevertheless the Coalition to Stop the Use of Child Soldiers reports that the use of
children in military forces, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The lack of systematic birth registration, particularly in rural areas, made it difficult to verify ages,
making it impossible to rule out the possibility that under 18s might participate actively in hostilities.
There were active recruitment drives targeting youths , particularly in the Kashmir valley. * Detention

There was evidence that in areas of armed conflict children accused of being members of armed
groups were detained, often in violation of national legislation designed to protect children in conflict
with the law. In Manipur it was alleged that the system established under the Juvenile Justice Act 2000

As a result, security forces (including police) who detained children in anti insurgency operations
were reportedly claiming that they were over 18 when

Summary Of Mind Over Money
Raniel Gernale
Finance Documentary Review
The documentary, Mind Over Money, discusses the impact of emotions on financial decisions. Our
behavior is bizarre when it comes to money. This video clearly shows this effect in its first example.
When a 20 dollar bill was auctioned off, two buyers paid over the bill s value. People do not use the
information they should not be using, but use other information that is said to be crazy to use. The
University of Chicago has given rise to the most Nobel prize winners in economics in the world. Here,
the theory of economics shows that having rational behavior is one of the most relied on model of

This is also definitely seen in traders, as some just seem like they know what they are doing.
Relating back to the 20 dollar bill auction, behavior and psychology play a major role. One should not
pay more than 20 dollars. This is due to the emotional desire to win that drives bids up, and the fear of
being a loser that drives them even higher. Another experiment that related this theory was a bid over a

The Opera Of Turandot By Giacomo Puccini
Opera Paper Turandot Turandot is a dramatic opera that was performed in the Metropolitan Opera in
2009. Turandot was written by Giacomo Puccini. This rendition of Turandot was produced by Franco
Zeffirelli, and directed by Andris Nelsons. In this beautiful performance of Turandot, we see Maria
Guleghina as Princess Turandot, Mariana Poplavskaya as Lui and Calaf as play by Marcello Giodani.
With all of these talented actors and show personnel, this production remains one of the best known
film adaptations of Turandot. The composer of Turandot is Giacomo Antonio Domenico Michele
Secondo Maria Puccini, who was born on December 28, 1858 in the small town of Lucca Italy.
Puccini came from 5 generations of musicians and began writing operas at the age of 21. His realistic
verismo style, which means truth or reality in Italian, allowed him to identify with his characters in a
realistic way and his operas reflect real life situations. Puccini liked to write operas with heroines
rather than heroes. His operas almost always include a death for the sake of love. Despite his operatic
genius, Puccini only wrote ten operas in his lifetime. He died on November 22, 1924 at the age of 66.
At the time of his death, he was only one act short of completing Turandot. His close friend and fellow
composer, Arturo Toscanini, finished Turandot shortly after his death. Puccini has been referred to by
many critics as the greatest composer of Italian opera after Verdi (Brittanica.com).

Bridge Of Spies Essay
In the land of cinema, often times the words inspired by true events will be flashed upon the screen
before diving into a film that covers a historical event. General audiences are led to believe that is a
common precursor to movies in this genre, but really it is a way in which screenplay writers and
directors cop out of the stress of being exacting when it comes to the historical accuracy of the piece.
The U 2 plane incident and the events that transpired afterwards made up a devastating time in

The Tiger, originally called The Tyger, is a lyric poem focusing on the nature of God and his creations.
It was published in 1794 in a collection entitled Songs of Experience (1). Poetry Essay Outline Thesis:
The Tiger is a poem by William Blake that routines a lot of underlying themes, throughout the writing.
He asks a series of serious queries concerning the nature of God, and why he created the tiger. The
theme of the poem is about God as the creator of good and evil that leads the reader to think.
The strongest literary element in William Blake s poem The Tyger, which is figurative language.
Figurative language can be defined as anything said or written that means something beyond the literal
meaning of the words that are used (2). The initial lines of Blake s poem are chock full of intense
figurative language: Tyger! Tyger! burning bright, In the forests of the night, the tiger is not literally
burning, of course, and this metaphor of fire and burning is carried out through the poem and takes on
all sorts of associations, including an association with the infernal. Allusion also plays an important
role in the poem. Stanza two includes an allusion to Icarus, who in classic myth attempts to fly to the
sun ( ...what wings... ). The allusion mixes with the fire imagery, and the idea that the creator forges
the tiger in fire, like a blacksmith. Stanza five contains an allusion to the fall of Satan from heaven

Bishop Spong And The Bible
Bishop Spong is certainly not like most church leaders, he views religion and religious beliefs as they
should apply to the current generation and incorporates the Bible into society not as fundamental law
but by addressing the overall message of God I choose to discuss Bishops Spongs ideas with someone
not in this class and I choose to confer on this subject matter with my live in boyfriend Justin. I felt
that discussion on these topics with him would be beneficial not only in the completion of my course
work but also contribute to the growth and understanding in our relationship of our beliefs regarding
the bible and religion, divorce, and homosexuality. Throughout this course I enjoyed many of the
topics and discussed them very openly with my spouse because unlike myself he is religious but did
not grow up in a home in which church was attended regularly. In discussing and viewing the video on
Bishop Spong and the Bible as the truth I came to the conclusion that people agree with the Bishop
Spongs statements that the Bible is used most times to support injustice and prejudice with in the
world. Justin has always told me since we met that while he believes in God he feels the Bible is just a
history book and can be used as a guide for humankind but cannot be applied to the present day.
Initially I must say I was a little offended but upon taking this course we can agree that many stories
in the Bible tend to be conflicting. In many ways this is a reflection upon society

Prejudice And Racism In The 21st Century

that, in this world, there are individuals capable of both wholehearted goodness and obscene hatred.
Throughout time, there have always been attitudes of racism, but also of kindness, thereby leading to
the conclusion that we are all simply a product of our environments. In a world where everyone has
loved and hated, where do you stand? Over the years, humans have developed a culture of hatred and

People during this era were looking for someone or something to grab hold of, and Hitler appeared to
the German people as such a trustworthy and upfront politician, that he became their Savior. Thus this
horrific man wormed his way into the hearts and minds of an entire nation. Hitler deceived the
Germans all along, realizing that he had to become popular, he heavily abused his power. He began his

The Resistance
During the time of the holocaust, Resistances all throughout germany took a stand against the Nazi

Armed resistances were a group of jewish of non jewish civils who were against the actions occurring

Flossing Essay
If you have children, you probably know how difficult it is to get your child to do anything related to
their oral health: brushing, flossing, and dentist visits. While it may not be easy and your child may
not like it proper oral hygiene is important to their health. Once your child has gotten the hang of
brushing, it is time to introduce flossing. If you are wondering how you will get your child to floss
daily and enjoy it, use these four tips to make it happen:
1. Use the Proper Tools
There are all sorts of different tools available for flossing today. You can use a waterpik, traditional

3. Offer Rewards
If there is one thing children like, it s rewards. During the beginning of your flossing adventure,
consider offering your child a reward for good behavior or proper technique. It doesn t have to be
candy or food, you can use toys or stickers as a reward. You can also offer extended playtime, reading,
or TV time, as a reward too.
4. Start Early and Go Slow
Finally, make sure you start instilling good flossing habits early. The younger your child starts, the
better. Starting young will also ensure that they continue the habit throughout their life. In addition,
make sure start slow. Your child may not get the hang of it immediately and that s perfectly
acceptable. Show them the ropes, practice daily, and soon they will be a master at flossing.
Flossing is a crucial part of a good oral hygiene routine. It helps to remove plaque buildup and it keeps
the gums and teeth healthy. If you are trying to introduce flossing into your child s routine, use these

The And Authority Of The New Testament Canon
The traditional interpretation of the development and authority of the New Testament canon is often a
topic of debate and scrutiny; however, Dr. Michael J. Kruger provided an excellent, well written
justification of how the New Testament canon came to be the 27 books known today. Kruger is
President and the Samuel C. Patterson Professor of New Testament and Early Christianity at
Reformed Theological Seminary in Charlotte, NC. Other publications include The Gospel of the

For centuries people have been perplexed regarding the books of the New Testament canon. Many
Christians have accepted the 27 books in the New Testament Canon but often cannot provide adequate
justification regarding how the canon was established. In Canon Revisited: Establishing the Origins

tough question and his response. He offers the readers a response to succinctly justify their acceptance
and understanding of the New Testament canon. In a few short chapters Kruger articulately confronted

nail salon to have my nail fix to and to observe another form of beauty, my antennas were already up.
ME: How much to fix my nail? Nail tech: $4 Then she looked again and changed it to $5 and said I
had long nails. ME: You just said $4, which is it $4 or $5. Nail tech: depends on the size. ME: what is
the size difference for the prices. I told her I didn t want a long nail. I sat down and she put on a tip on
my thumbnail and showed me the differences in the cuts. I told her the $4 cut was fine. I asked her did
she use a particular method called the dip method for nails. She said no, just acrylic, I asked her again
to make sure she understood what I was talking about. Surprisingly, she didn t know it

The Importance Of The Foster Care System
The foster care system has been around for generations, constantly adjusting the system to modernize
it. But there s been a loss of protection in the system through these last few years. The foster care
system needs to change because children are being placed in unsafe environments, funding is going in
unnecessary places, the adoption process has some discouraging qualifications, and education in the
system doesn t have a huge importance. Children in the foster care system are being put in unsafe
environments on a daily basis, such as abusive, drug using, or alcoholic foster parents. This has
become a pattern, a large number of adults who grew up in the foster care system, have experienced
one, if not more of these unsafe environments. An article by Brittany Hines Clark about her
experience in the foster care system, she says. I went to a long term placement when I was 7 years old.
I stayed there for about five years, but they weren t the most pleasant years. At first, I was the only girl
in the home, with three boys. By the time I was moved, five years later, there were six boys there, and
I was still the only girl. Only one of the boys was my biological brother. During my time in that home,
I was physically and sexually manipulated. So many things went on there, but only my outbursts were
reported to my social worker. I even was put in the home of a different member of that family so that
the foster parent would continue getting paid (Clark).

Beowulf Leadership Analysis
In the fantasy world found within the story of Beowulf; Hrothgar, the wise king of the Danes, offers
Beowulf some important lessons of leadership. Hrothgar, recognizing Beowulf s nobility and strength,
talks to him about how he should act to be a good ruler when he becomes king. The characteristics of
good leadership that Hrothgar mentions still hold true today, through people like politicians, and
business executives. Hrothgar s sermon not only provides an insight into what leaders like these
should do, it aims to bring to light what leaders should not do.
To Hrothgar, a true leader should not be wicked to their people; rather, they should show kindness and
be loved by their people. While talking about a previous ruler of the Danes, Hrothgar tells Beowulf
that his rise in the world brought little joy to the Danish people, only death and destruction
(McArthur). In order to keep the people happy, it is important to be open to them and generous.
Beowulf does this when he becomes king of the Geats by becoming a ring giver to his people
(Loughman). For example, after slaying the monster Grendel, Hrothgar rewards Beowulf, with a
victory gift, an embroidered banner; also breast mail; and a sword carried high (Post). In today s
society, rewarding swords and armor to every staff member at a company is a bit outlandish,
nevertheless; business executives can take away from this by rewarding the work that the people of
their company put in, rather than ignoring the needs and lives

Potential Of Microbial Fuel Cells
Potential of Microbial Fuel Cells
A microbial fuel cell (MFC) is a device that converts chemical energy to electrical energy by the
catalytic and metabolic reactions of microorganisms. The microorganisms function as a catalyst in the
electron transfer between the electrodes. A MFC is just like any other fuel cell in its function which
can undergo a half cell reaction. A typical microbial fuel cell consists of anode and cathode
compartments separated by a cation (positively charged ion) permitting specific membrane. At the
anode, the organic matter or substrate is oxidized by microorganisms, generating CO2, electrons and
protons. Electrons are transferred to the cathode through an external electric circuit, while protons are
transferred to the cathode through the membrane. Electrons and protons react in the cathode,
combining with oxygen to form water.
A simple REDOX reaction takes place in the fuel cell. The rate of the reactions can depend on the
internal resistance, bacteria, substrate, semi permeable membrane and electrode configuration. The
basic reactions that occur when microorganisms consume a substrate such as sugar in the presence of
O2 they produce CO2 and H2O. But, when oxygen is not present they produce CO2, H+ and e .
At Anode,
C12H22O11 +13H2O → 12CO2 + 48H+ + 48e−
At Cathode,
O2 + 4e− + 4H+ → 2H2O
The applications of MFC s are that, they can be used for electricity generation, bio hydrogen
production, wastewater treatment and bioremediation. While

My Time With Cal State La And Internship
My time with Cal State LA and internship is coming to end, and there are so many mixed feelings that
I have. I am nervous, excited, scared, relieved, and so forth. For this quarter, my seminar class and
internship have focused a lot on termination, with Cal State LA, clients, and myself. The termination
process has helped me deal and cope with my mixed emotions, because it makes it easier for me to
end a chapter in my life, and transition into a new one. At my internship, LAUSD had a mandatory
End of the Year training that required all of the interns to attend. At the training, they talked about how
we should set aside time for ourselves, self care. Social work can be get very stressful in a school
environment, so it is our responsibility to make time for ourselves, and recover mentally. I am
definitely going to a mental break this upcoming summer. For example, I got accepted into the MSW
program at USC, and I am not taking any classes this summer. I am aware that the MSW program is
very intense and rigorous, that is why I am giving myself time to just relax, and spend time with my
family and friends. At my internship, I have four clients that were assigned to me, and I am in the
process of terminating with them. After reflecting about the time I spent with my clients, I feel
positive that I was able to see them grow maturely. For my first my client, he is a Fifth Grade student
who had a serious problem of not controlling his anger. He would constantly get

Case Study Lyons
Lyons is known for a town of 3,500 residents. Lyons is like stepping back in time 50 years, it is very
old fashioned. Women stayed at home while cleaning and cooking all day long. That was one thing
famous for Lyon the smell of bread could be found miles away. Children spent their time playing
outside with each other, not in front of a television or gaming devices. When not playing outside they
would attend school. Since Lyons was so small the school building was about 75 years old and it
housed all the students under one roof, from kindergarten through 12th grade. Jason is a young boy
who was born with a devastating disease that has left him in a wheelchair, unable to walk, talk, feed,

Feminist Development
When girls reach puberty, hormones are released that trigger many physical and psychological
changes. In girls, puberty usually begins with a growth spurt and the development of breasts. Although
breast development begins in the earliest stage of puberty, the process will continue for several years.
Usually, pubic hair and then axillary hair appear about six months later. It can also be normal for
axillary and pubic hair to appear as the first sign of the onset of puberty. It s important to realize that,
like many biological processes, there is a lot of variation in when and in what order things happen.
The key event for a young woman during puberty is menarche. Menarche is the onset, or beginning, of
the menstrual cycle, which is the process ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Puberty in males begins somewhere between 9 and 13 years of age. The entire process lasts from two
to five years. There s no way to speed it up or slow it down, but never fear it will happen to you. The
first sign of male puberty may be difficult to detect. Boys testicles begin to grow, and this probably
hasn t happened almost since they were born. As a first step in puberty, this makes sense because the
testicles have two important functions: 1. they produce testosterone, the male hormone that sets off all
of the other changes in males during puberty; and 2. they produce sperm the most important biological
outcome of puberty. Soon after a boy s genitals begin to grow, pubic hair makes its first appearance,
usually above the base of the penis. Over the next few years, the hair grows and spreads until it is
dense and surrounds the genitals, and then it spreads to the thighs and upward toward the belly button.
Facial hair begins to make its appearance usually after the first signs of pubic hair. Your voice will
also begin to change, the hormones cause signaling to the larynx to enlarge. The larger the voice box
grows and the thicker the vocal cords, the lower the voice goes. When a male has completed puberty,
his bones are heavier than those of a woman, and he has up to twice the muscle

Young Goodman Brown And A Cask Of Amontillado Analysis
Young Goodman Brown and A Cask of Amontillado both incorporate a gothic theme to the simple yet
intricate plotline they hold. Within the two short stories, irony scatters, adding to the overall grim
theme. Although they use the same 3 types of irony, the authors use them differently and similarly at
the same time. In Young Goodman Brown by Nathaniel Hawthorne and A Cask of Amontillado by
Edgar Allen Poe, there are many examples of situational irony that are used comparably in both texts.
Dramatic irony is the type of irony that informs the reader of a certain fact that one or more characters
in the story may not know. This is quite evident in Young Goodman Brown and A Cask of
Amontillado, because of the lack of knowledge that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is dramatic irony because the reader knows something that a character, in this case, Fortunato,
doesn t know. Young Goodman Brown and A Cask of Amontillado both use dramatic irony but in very
different ways. Young Goodman Brown uses dramatic irony to add some comedic relief to the
otherwise serious story, while A Cask of Amontillado uses this type of irony to add to the tension in
the text. Young Goodman Brown by Nathaniel Hawthorne and A Cask of Amontillado by Edgar Allen
Poe, although they use it for different purposes. Situational irony is a type of irony that compares the
expectations for an event and the real outcome. Situational irony is most times humorous, and this
witty irony is present in both Young Goodman Brown and A Cask of Amontillado. Hawthorne s work,
Young Goodman Brown, refers to the concept of heaven and hell, specifically the devil. When
Goodman leaves his wife, Faith, to go on a journey, he worries for her. He justifies himself by saying
Well, she s a blessed angel on earth; and after this one night I ll cling to her skirts and follow her to
heaven, (Hawthorne 3). This quote alone has 3 examples of situational irony. First, his wife s name,
Faith, symbolizes how he leaves his town for the devil, and that he is leaving his faith behind.
Secondly, Goodman never truly finds out

The Relationship Between Weather And Motor Vehicle Accidents
Within this research proposal, I will be discussing my hypothesis that will determine the question I
have for my final research study. This research study will gather information from archival data and
will not have any contact with any participants. This proposal will discuss the types of archival data
being collected, the variables that will be measured, the foreseen limits of this research study, and the
procedure to intact the ethical principles of the population. I hypothesize that the number of motor
vehicle accidents declared in North America will be higher with rain, fog, and snow weather
conditions. For this research proposal I will be looking at completed studies and research to determine
if there is a relationship between weather and motor vehicle accidents. I will also look at statistics,
specifically Statistics Canada, data collection on vehicles driven and weather conditions specific to
areas in North America. One variable that are being measured is the type of weather conditions, such
as rain, snow, or fog. Another variable that is being measure is the amount and type of motor vehicle.
These variables will be researched specific to North America areas. Many of the studies I am looking
at are accessible through universities library and Google scholar. Although for some of the studies, I
need to have access to a student number for the universities resources or pay for the material, it is still
accessible publicly. I can be confident that the

TASK 1 OPTION 2 HISTORY Which is more important in explaining the public support for Chartism: economic circumstances, or the tradition of radical politics? To explain the rise of the chartist political movement and the public support it received we need to consider the two main contributing factors at the time. Historians like Asa Briggs, W.W. Rostow and Gareth Steadman Jones take differing views on which was the most important explanation for the dramatic rise in public support for the chartist movement. Briggs agreed with an economic based reason and Steadman Jones agreed with the radical new policies that Chartism offered being the main reason for the growth in support for the movement. This essay will explore these two views ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The general feel of the working class was expressed in the chartist newspaper the morning chronicle we require justice before charity . (Morning Chronicle may 3rd 1842). This was taken from a banner in the crowd of supporters. The speaker in the extract reflects the sentiment of the banner and the feeling of the crowd at the rally. This shows how political motivations were a major factor in the growth of Chartism and how the chartists used public feeling to garner support. In conclusion to explain the growth and mass support for Chartism and the rise of the political movement which gripped the nation A mix of both economic problems combined with radical political ideas left a nation wanting change the Chartists used the economic situation to tailor support for their cause and increase the idea that political change would improve conditions for the working classes. Chartism would not have had the same effect without a combination of these 2 factors. References O Day, R., Hardy, W., Marsh, G., Padley, S. And Perryman, L.A. There are people who are losing their moral values and social media is a vital factor as to why people have been encouraged to the loss of moral values. It is very simple and easy for one to write something negative that can invade an individual s privacy and against one s religion. For example, political leader Donald Trump uses Twitter as a place to share his thoughts, and opinions about certain beliefs and factors. Social Media is very simple and just takes a click of a button to post anything for the world to see. The powerful things the media can create are alarming and needs to be viewed with more consideration to protect individual principled values. In fact, people should be more conscious of how social media and the web brings influence into other s lives. But, although it may suggest that the only values that are held by our society is the idea of fulfillment, as if people do not care about individual actions affecting others. In present day, all things are about instantaneous fulfillment. For instance, I have the power and ability to do whatever I please to anybody, but they better not do it back to me. • 6. Does Watching TV Make Us Smarter In his essay, Does Watching TV Make Us Stupid? Nigel Barber argues that the effect of TV on a child s intelligence has to do with their social class, meaning that children in lower social classes who watch TV often come to be more intelligent than their counterparts who don t watch TV and vice versa. Barber then goes onto write that children in more well to do countries become smarter because they have more access to mass media, which stimulates their brain. So, to answer his title s question, Barber does not think that TV makes us stupid. There are many opinions on this topic. Steven Johnson shares his opinion in his essay, Watching TV Makes You Smarter . In his essay Johnson argues that TV does make us smarter for many reasons. The first being that society is becoming more demanding in the amount and complexity of the content received from TV shows, which Johnson calls the Sleeper Curve. With this rise of complexity comes three elements: multiple threads, flashing arrows, and social networks. All of which Johnson goes into detail about how they have improved TV over time, making the public smarter. Although there are many similarities between the two authors there are many more differences. The clearest differences between Barber s Does Watching TV Make Us Stupid? and Johnson s Watching TV Makes You Smarter are the titles, generalizations they make, and most importantly what and why they think TV makes us smarter. • 7. Argumentative Essay On Music Education One of my biggest passions in life has been advocating for music education. This takes after my father who does this for a living. Defending why music education is important is oddly a very difficult task. The issue with this topic, is that there is no real argument saying that the arts are not important. However, when it comes down to budget cuts and funding the arts always seem to get the boot first. There are plenty of ways to effectively defend music education, yet so many people take the wrong pathway and preach what they think the general public wants to hear. People will express how taking music classes helps with test scores and overall GPA, when in reality this is not why we should be defending why music is important. My project serves to help other music advocates truly understand why this argument is ineffective. Do not get me wrong, the studies have proven how music can positively affect the brain and that music students tend to do better on standardized testing. This is a phenomenal discovery that was only proven to be true a few years ago. However, people are using this fact as their main argument and people who are not affiliated with the arts are getting this perception that music is only important to help with test scores. Recently, music was defined as a core subject. When people believe that music is only important because it helps with test scores that is the equivalent of saying that effective writing class is only useful to help with writing scientific conclusions. We live in a test driven society where students are measured by a number on a test rather than what they have to offer outside of the classroom. There are an abundance of examples when people have come up to defend music education by explaining how much it helps with test scores. One of the most iconic articles was done by PBS (Public Broadcasting Station). PBS released an article with the benefits of music and the first comment in the article was, Research has found that learning music facilitates learning other subjects and enhances skills that children inevitably use in other areas. Data management, data mining, data warehousing, information management, information security, information assurance, healthcare informatics and bioinformatics are just a small sample of some of the different areas of study that will be examined in this paper. Also included in this paper are answers to questions posed by the rubric for this assignment. Data management, mining, and warehousing all deal with data in different ways. Data management establishes the groundwork for an organization to structure, regulate, process, and store data that they acquire (Rouse, 2016). Data management also encompasses the creation of definitions and standards for the acquired data which will be adhered to throughout the organization (Definition of: Data management, 2016). Data mining is [t]he process of finding significant, previously unknown, and potentially valuable knowledge hidden in data (Gordon, 2007). Organizations use data mining to sift through massive quantities of raw data in order to find patterns and relationships that will ultimately be used for business purposes (Definition of: Data mining, 2016). Organizations mainly use data mining to get a better idea of their customer s purchasing habits, product preferences, etc. in order to create sales tactics targeted at a certain customer demographic (Definition of: Data management, 2016). • 9. Essay On Gay Adoption Homosexuality defined as being sexually attracted to one s own gender has incessantly been a compelling social issue. A majority of society sees the wrong sexual orientation as evil or unhuman, regardless of character content. In April 1952, the American Psychiatric Association even labeled homosexuality as a mental disorder. Today, same sex relationships have been normalized and live life as ordinary people, yet treated as second class citizens. This treatment by society has significantly limited the basic human rights of these individuals, including parenthood. Should LGBTQ+ be able to adopt children? Do gay parents and guardians effect children negatively? Adoption is a lengthy process of legally accepting responsibilities of a non biological child. While adoption is usually governed by laws that vary from state to state, but there are also federal regulations. These federal laws are set in place to provide clarity on who can and cannot adopt, parental rights, consent, the best interest of the adoptees, and the confidentiality of the adoption. Preceding the adoption process, applicants of every state must undergo an extensive background check, mental health analysis, an examination of the household s members, and the finances of the applicant. • 10. The Similarities Between Lucius And The Tale Of Cupid And... Many historical and mythological accounts of Graeco Roman history in the classical period, involved tales of magic, worship of the gods, and emphasised the value society placed on devotion to religion. These societal beliefs and practices became evident in the literature of Greek and Roman societies, where its use, reach, and consequences was illustrated. In the only surviving Roman novel of the 2nd century AD, Apuleius Metamorphoses, readers encounter a Greek nobleman, named Lucius, whose insatiable curiosity leads him to explore magic. His over enthusiasm to intimately experience and learn about magic, accidentally causes his transformation into an ass, causing him to be subjected to a range of vulgar, exploitive, and lustful debaucheries on his path to become human again. This essay will explore how Lucius s insatiable curiosity and thirst for forbidden knowledge causes him to become a victim of magic, and how religion delivers him from its dangerous realms. Finally, this essay will comment on the contested approaches to interpreting the final book of the novel. • 11. Cuban Immigrants And The Cuban Adjustment Act Essay INTRODUCTION: Even though Cuba is a little under 100 miles away from the United States, the relationship between the two countries has created an atmosphere full of tension and perpetual mistrust. When Fidel Castro decided to align Cuba with the U.S.S.R. and become a communist country, the United States of America was stunned and highly insulted. Because of their relationship, both countries have played a back and forth game of trying to outdo the other. This game and state of affairs in Cuba has created a large influx of Cuban immigrants looking for better opportunities and trying to escape poverty and persecution. This paper will be focusing on Cuban immigrants and examining different Cuban immigration laws, which allowed them to easily become United States citizens, including; the Cuban Adjustment Act, The Immigration and Nationality Act Amendments of 1976 and the Wet Foot, Dry Foot Policy. It will also discuss whether the Cuban immigration laws are unfair to other foreign immigrants and whether the laws are relevant today. Finally, we will be considering the future and try to predict how the laws will change with the changing diplomatic relations between Cuba and the United States and the imminent removal of the Embargo Act. CUBAN IMMIGRATION LAWS: The Cuban Adjustment Act was enacted in 1966. The Act allowed illegal Cuban immigrants, who were already living in the United States for two years prior, to easily gain their citizenship. It also fast tracked Cuban ... However, when the top predator of the ocean collides with the top predator of land, the situation can become fatal for both humans and the whales. Holding these incredibly massive marine animals in captivity is not only inhumane and detrimental to the whale s health, but also a potentially fatal activity for humans to participate in. The Theme Of Antisemitism In Night Of Surrender I think Night of Surrender serves to showcase the difficulty Holocaust survivors faced when attempting to transition back into the regular world. This tension faced by all Jewish survivors after World War 2 is the central theme of the story. We see the female protagonist struggle with trying to find happiness after staying relatively safe during the Holocaust. I should be happy to have survived, but I wasn t happy, and I was upset to be so sad (Fink 93). The woman cannot seem to escape her past even on such a celebratory night the night of the surrender. She goes on to reveal herself as Jewish and talks about her struggle with her significant other Mike, saying Do you know what it means to live in fear, lying, never speaking your own language. Or thinking with your own brain, or looking with your own eyes? (Fink 100). I think Fink is showing us that it s easy to think liberation brought about pure happiness for the Jewish people which enabled them to live happy fulfilling lives, however many were hurt emotionally beyond repair by the Nazi regime. What most startles me about this piece is the idea that even after the war people felt as if they had to hide their Jewish faith out of fear of Antisemitism. Analysis of Conflict In the short story, The Bullet in the Brain, by Tobias Wolff, we meet a book critic who ends up meeting his demise as a result of being sarcastic with a bank robber who is not on the same educational level as Anders. The conflict of the story is that experiences throughout Anders life has hardened him and made him jaded. Which makes Anders pessimistic and dark to people around him. One of the first examples in this short story by Wolff, conveying an example of how life has hardened Anders and how he reacts to daily situations with a different perspective .In this quote, Anders is sarcastically equating the lane closing to these terrible things as a result of the two ladies complaining about one of the tellers closing her lane at the bank, Damned unfair, he said. Tragic really. If they re not chopping off the wrong leg, or bombing your ancestral village, They re closing their positions... Unforgiveable, Anders said. Heaven will take note. (1). In this excerpt from the book, Anders is being satirical to these ladies, because of how he believes they are being overdramatic about a small thing, that is a minor inconvenience in the grand scheme of things. I definitely have been on both sides of this encounter, in other places, that are pretty minor, yet I overreacted and realized how stupid it was or thought the other person was being dramatic about a small annoyance. • 18. Analysis Of The Article Of Margery Kempe The Woman in White: Reduction to Appearance Body in; The Book of Margery Kempe by Margery Kempe For all of time society has been incredibly judgmental of women s clothing, among every other aspect of their lives. The Medieval time period was restrictive towards women s clothing and bodies due to widespread beliefs that women must be held to a higher standard. Women were taught to be bashful when it came to their bodies during the Medieval time period, as explained in Representation of Women s Emotions in Medieval and Early Modern Culture by Lisa Renee Perfetti. Angelic or in mourning, Margery Kemp s change in attire between white and black impacts her relations with those around her. The Book of Margery Kempe by Margery Kempe portrays the reduction to appearance and body based on Margery s attire. Reduction to Body, the treatment of a person as identified with their body, or body parts (feminist perspectives on objectification), can be seen throughout Medieval England and Margery Kempe s autobiography. The female body especially, has undergone immense scrutiny for simply existing, genitelia often referred to as shamefuls (Allen 191). Margery s disinterest in being sexual is based on the idea that God will love her more if she were to refrain from sex, just as a virgin might. But this may not be her only encouragement because there are certain occasions when the women s shame is strictly social (Allen 193). Margery may be choosing to live chastely with John for the ... In another dystopian film, Divergent, the characters live in a world that is divided into five factions which is supposed to prevent future war. In both films, the government has an impact on the characters. In Children of men it has the characteristics of contemporary society while in Divergent it has both characteristics of a communist and capitalist societies. But what they both have in common is that in each film it shows images of war weather it would be mental or physical. Survival and revolution are shown to have a role in each film differently. Both films relay the idea of redemption and hope for the future while having a dystopia setting. Alfonso Cuaron, the director of the film Children of Men, relays a contemporary society by having the movie based in the future, and he shows changes of the world and international political institutions. How the future is not all the fancy technology and the society is broken because everything revolves around the elimination of immigrants. With that it is causing the government to turn into a police state by trying to get rid of all the immigrants. U.s Law On Public Sector A REVISION OF THE CURRENT IMPACT OF US LAW ON PUBLIC SECTOR (May focus on CRA, ADEA, FLSA, ADAA, IDEA, FMLA) Laws are basically rules that bind all people and help protect general safety in a community, organization, association, team etc. Laws also help to enforce all individual rights as citizens. One important thing to know is that laws are different across different regions, states and countries. The most important thing to know about any place, organization, community and country is the laws that govern it. State law for driving at a safe speed in Pennsylvania is 65m/hr when driving in highway. If someone drive above 65m/hr and his caught, he will be found guilty of the law and he will be charge. In essence, laws help to maintain orderliness and protection of human rights. U.S law helps to impact positively the right of citizens in public sector and also helps promote equality among its citizens (Publications.Usa.gov, 2016). The high rate of discrimination and favoritism in the past has seriously been tackled and reduced to minimum. Law has helped all individuals to be given fair hearing to employment. Law helps protect all citizens from discrimination due to their race, age, gender or even disability. The law has no respect for any individual, all is subject to act under the law without any preference or favoritism. All citizens are governed by law no matter his or her position in the society. • 21. Analysis Of A Farewell To Arms A Farewell to Arms is a novel written by Ernest Hemingway. The book setting is in Italy during World War I, along the border between Italy and the Austro Hungarian Empire. The novel focus on a tragic love story between Lieutenant Frederic Henry and British nurse Catherine Barkley. Though many obstacles, the two lovers always find a way to stay together. The novel s ending wasn t the best but in the end, they were star crossed lovers. Hemingway was best known for this novel as to be one of the best novel that he has ever written. The novel is recognized by its style, characterization, and tragedy. Throughout the novel, Hemingway does a great job at introducing each character and their relation to the war. He s very descriptive when it come to the interaction between the two main characters. However, his transition from one chapter to another was sometimes confusing and not as descriptive. For example, each chapter he would state the next morning or the next afternoon but he doesn t give us the specific date or the time of the day. This makes the readers wonder if Hemingway is telling the truth about the events of the war or not. Since its past tense and is being told through a narrative novel, we can t trust whether Hemingway is leaving out any detail of the events because there is such a big time gap between when it was told and when the book was written. We can t say that Frederick was taking notes on every event that occurred but we can only trust that he s telling the truth. Furthermore, each time he transitions from each chapter and book, he completely changes the setting and mood of the story. This confuses some readers and makes them not wanting to continue on reading the novel. He also gave us descriptive information regarding to the war as well. For example, in chapter 2 it stated: The next year there were many victories. The mountain that was beyond the valley and the hillside where the chestnut forest grew was captured and there were victories beyond the plain on the plateau to the south and we crossed the river in August and lived in a house in Gorizia that had a fountain and many thick shady trees in a walled garden and a wistaria vine purple on the side of the house. In this beautiful performance of Turandot, we see Maria Guleghina as Princess Turandot, Mariana Poplavskaya as Lui and Calaf as play by Marcello Giodani. The composer of Turandot is Giacomo Antonio Domenico Michele Secondo Maria Puccini, who was born on December 28, 1858 in the small town of Lucca Italy. Puccini came from 5 generations of musicians and began writing operas at the age of 21. His realistic verismo style, which means truth or reality in Italian, allowed him to identify with his characters in a realistic way and his operas reflect real life situations. Puccini liked to write operas with heroines rather than heroes. His operas almost always include a death for the sake of love. Despite his operatic genius, Puccini only wrote ten operas in his lifetime. He died on November 22, 1924 at the age of 66. At the time of his death, he was only one act short of completing Turandot. His close friend and fellow composer, Arturo Toscanini, finished Turandot shortly after his death. Many Christians have accepted the 27 books in the New Testament Canon but often cannot provide adequate justification regarding how the canon was established. In Canon Revisited: Establishing the Origins and Authority of the New Testament Books, Michael J. Kruger provides readers with a glimpse of this tough question and his response. He offers the readers a response to succinctly justify their acceptance and understanding of the New Testament canon. In a few short chapters Kruger articulately confronted this very difficult topic. Michael Kruger s book is written in two sections on the topic of the canonical model. Section ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. My Experience At The Mall As A Cosmetics Sales Person As I walked back to my car, I reflected on my experience working at the mall as a cosmetics sales person. I had more intimacy with shoppers than other sales positions because I was selling them something personal. I think about the smells of the lotions, perfumes and the colorful palette of lipsticks. I remember standing behind the counter with my shoes off or sneaking into facial room to take a quick nap. I hated wearing makeup to promote the products to look pretty but you get into trouble if you didn t promote the cosmetic line. What does the cosmetic counter represent? British journalist Deborah Ross (2011), did a story working behind the counter calls it the hostile make over bid surrounded by girls putting cakey crap on your face ... My brief encounter with fieldwork has always been about art education where I didn t worry about my personal biases. I have always had my opinion working in the cosmetic department, but to hear another person speak on how they see the job is worth investigating. People look at mall culture as the shoppers and not the employees. I wish I had more time to really talk to the women in depth. In the beginning of my project, I worried about how I was going to enter the mall as an outsider with an unbiased lens. I picked an area that I was too comfortable to really understand how it would feel to the other side. For example, when I went to the nail salon to have my nail fix to and to observe another form of beauty, my antennas were already up. ME: How much to fix my nail? Nail tech: $4 Then she looked again and changed it to $5 and said I had long nails. ME: You just said $4, which is it $4 or $5. Nail tech: depends on the size. ME: what is the size difference for the prices. I told her I didn t want a long nail. I sat down and she put on a tip on my thumbnail and showed me the differences in the cuts. I told her the $4 cut was fine. I asked her did she use a particular method called the dip method for nails. She said no, just acrylic, I asked her again to make sure she understood what I was talking about. Surprisingly, she didn t know it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. The Importance Of The Foster Care System The foster care system has been around for generations, constantly adjusting the system to modernize it. But there s been a loss of protection in the system through these last few years. The foster care system needs to change because children are being placed in unsafe environments, funding is going in unnecessary places, the adoption process has some discouraging qualifications, and education in the system doesn t have a huge importance. Children in the foster care system are being put in unsafe environments on a daily basis, such as abusive, drug using, or alcoholic foster parents. This has become a pattern, a large number of adults who grew up in the foster care system, have experienced one, if not more of these unsafe environments. An article by Brittany Hines Clark about her experience in the foster care system, she says. I went to a long term placement when I was 7 years old. I stayed there for about five years, but they weren t the most pleasant years. At first, I was the only girl in the home, with three boys. By the time I was moved, five years later, there were six boys there, and I was still the only girl. Only one of the boys was my biological brother. During my time in that home, I was physically and sexually manipulated. So many things went on there, but only my outbursts were reported to my social worker. I even was put in the home of a different member of that family so that the foster parent would continue getting paid (Clark). Also in an article by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Beowulf Leadership Analysis In the fantasy world found within the story of Beowulf; Hrothgar, the wise king of the Danes, offers Beowulf some important lessons of leadership. Hrothgar, recognizing Beowulf s nobility and strength, talks to him about how he should act to be a good ruler when he becomes king. The characteristics of good leadership that Hrothgar mentions still hold true today, through people like politicians, and business executives. Hrothgar s sermon not only provides an insight into what leaders like these should do, it aims to bring to light what leaders should not do. To Hrothgar, a true leader should not be wicked to their people; rather, they should show kindness and be loved by their people. While talking about a previous ruler of the Danes, Hrothgar tells Beowulf that his rise in the world brought little joy to the Danish people, only death and destruction (McArthur). In order to keep the people happy, it is important to be open to them and generous. Beowulf does this when he becomes king of the Geats by becoming a ring giver to his people (Loughman). For example, after slaying the monster Grendel, Hrothgar rewards Beowulf, with a victory gift, an embroidered banner; also breast mail; and a sword carried high (Post). In today s society, rewarding swords and armor to every staff member at a company is a bit outlandish, nevertheless; business executives can take away from this by rewarding the work that the people of their company put in, rather than ignoring the needs and lives ... • 42. Potential Of Microbial Fuel Cells Potential of Microbial Fuel Cells A microbial fuel cell (MFC) is a device that converts chemical energy to electrical energy by the catalytic and metabolic reactions of microorganisms. The microorganisms function as a catalyst in the electron transfer between the electrodes. A MFC is just like any other fuel cell in its function which can undergo a half cell reaction. A typical microbial fuel cell consists of anode and cathode compartments separated by a cation (positively charged ion) permitting specific membrane. At the anode, the organic matter or substrate is oxidized by microorganisms, generating CO2, electrons and protons. Electrons are transferred to the cathode through an external electric circuit, while protons are transferred to the cathode through the membrane. Electrons and protons react in the cathode, combining with oxygen to form water. A simple REDOX reaction takes place in the fuel cell. The rate of the reactions can depend on the internal resistance, bacteria, substrate, semi permeable membrane and electrode configuration. The basic reactions that occur when microorganisms consume a substrate such as sugar in the presence of O2 they produce CO2 and H2O. But, when oxygen is not present they produce CO2, H+ and e . At Anode, C12H22O11 +13H2O → 12CO2 + 48H+ + 48e− At Cathode, O2 + 4e− + 4H+ → 2H2O The applications of MFC s are that, they can be used for electricity generation, bio hydrogen production, wastewater treatment and bioremediation. • 45. My Time With Cal State La And Internship My time with Cal State LA and internship is coming to end, and there are so many mixed feelings that I have. I am nervous, excited, scared, relieved, and so forth. For this quarter, my seminar class and internship have focused a lot on termination, with Cal State LA, clients, and myself. The termination process has helped me deal and cope with my mixed emotions, because it makes it easier for me to end a chapter in my life, and transition into a new one. At my internship, LAUSD had a mandatory End of the Year training that required all of the interns to attend. At the training, they talked about how we should set aside time for ourselves, self care. Social work can be get very stressful in a school environment, so it is our responsibility to make time for ourselves, and recover mentally. I am definitely going to a mental break this upcoming summer. For example, I got accepted into the MSW program at USC, and I am not taking any classes this summer. I am aware that the MSW program is very intense and rigorous, that is why I am giving myself time to just relax, and spend time with my family and friends. At my internship, I have four clients that were assigned to me, and I am in the process of terminating with them. After reflecting about the time I spent with my clients, I feel positive that I was able to see them grow maturely. For my first my client, he is a Fifth Grade student who had a serious problem of not controlling his anger. He would constantly get ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 47. Feminist Development When girls reach puberty, hormones are released that trigger many physical and psychological changes. In girls, puberty usually begins with a growth spurt and the development of breasts. Although breast development begins in the earliest stage of puberty, the process will continue for several years. Usually, pubic hair and then axillary hair appear about six months later. It can also be normal for axillary and pubic hair to appear as the first sign of the onset of puberty. It s important to realize that, like many biological processes, there is a lot of variation in when and in what order things happen. The key event for a young woman during puberty is menarche. Menarche is the onset, or beginning, of the menstrual cycle, which is the process ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Puberty in males begins somewhere between 9 and 13 years of age. The entire process lasts from two to five years. There s no way to speed it up or slow it down, but never fear it will happen to you. The first sign of male puberty may be difficult to detect. Boys testicles begin to grow, and this probably hasn t happened almost since they were born. As a first step in puberty, this makes sense because the testicles have two important functions: 1. they produce testosterone, the male hormone that sets off all of the other changes in males during puberty; and 2. they produce sperm the most important biological outcome of puberty. Soon after a boy s genitals begin to grow, pubic hair makes its first appearance, usually above the base of the penis. Over the next few years, the hair grows and spreads until it is dense and surrounds the genitals, and then it spreads to the thighs and upward toward the belly button. Facial hair begins to make its appearance usually after the first signs of pubic hair. Your voice will also begin to change, the hormones cause signaling to the larynx to enlarge. • 48. Young Goodman Brown And A Cask Of Amontillado Analysis Young Goodman Brown and A Cask of Amontillado both incorporate a gothic theme to the simple yet intricate plotline they hold. Within the two short stories, irony scatters, adding to the overall grim theme. Although they use the same 3 types of irony, the authors use them differently and similarly at the same time. In Young Goodman Brown by Nathaniel Hawthorne and A Cask of Amontillado by Edgar Allen Poe, there are many examples of situational irony that are used comparably in both texts. Dramatic irony is the type of irony that informs the reader of a certain fact that one or more characters in the story may not know. This is dramatic irony because the reader knows something that a character, in this case, Fortunato, doesn t know. Young Goodman Brown and A Cask of Amontillado both use dramatic irony but in very different ways. Young Goodman Brown uses dramatic irony to add some comedic relief to the otherwise serious story, while A Cask of Amontillado uses this type of irony to add to the tension in the text. Young Goodman Brown by Nathaniel Hawthorne and A Cask of Amontillado by Edgar Allen Poe, although they use it for different purposes. Situational irony is a type of irony that compares the expectations for an event and the real outcome. Situational irony is most times humorous, and this witty irony is present in both Young Goodman Brown and A Cask of Amontillado. Hawthorne s work, Young Goodman Brown, refers to the concept of heaven and hell, specifically the devil. When Goodman leaves his wife, Faith, to go on a journey, he worries for her. He justifies himself by saying Well, she s a blessed angel on earth; and after this one night I ll cling to her skirts and follow her to heaven, (Hawthorne 3). This quote alone has 3 examples of situational irony. First, his wife s name, Faith, symbolizes how he leaves his town for the devil, and that he is leaving his faith behind. Secondly, Goodman never truly finds out ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. The Relationship Between Weather And Motor Vehicle Accidents Within this research proposal, I will be discussing my hypothesis that will determine the question I have for my final research study. This research study will gather information from archival data and will not have any contact with any participants. This proposal will discuss the types of archival data being collected, the variables that will be measured, the foreseen limits of this research study, and the procedure to intact the ethical principles of the population. I hypothesize that the number of motor vehicle accidents declared in North America will be higher with rain, fog, and snow weather conditions. For this research proposal I will be looking at completed studies and research to determine if there is a relationship between weather and motor vehicle accidents. I will also look at statistics, specifically Statistics Canada, data collection on vehicles driven and weather conditions specific to areas in North America. One variable that are being measured is the type of weather conditions, such as rain, snow, or fog. Another variable that is being measure is the amount and type of motor vehicle. These variables will be researched specific to North America areas. Many of the studies I am looking at are accessible through universities library and Google scholar. Although for some of the studies, I need to have access to a student number for the universities resources or pay for the material, it is still accessible publicly. I can be confident that the ...
