A Cold Child Research Paper
Everyone thinks that being considered the perfect child or the ideal child means that they have
the best, happy life anyone could ask for but in reality, it s the complete opposite. For starters, if
you have successful parents you are usually given the task to live up to their expectations. With
the exception of giving you the amount of pressure no one can handle, especially for a 16 year
old girl like me. Then, you have a mom that pretty much controls your whole life and is almost
everywhere you go, which is technically a helicopter parent I guess you could say. It s like you
re trapped in your own little world by your own mom and there is no chance of you getting out.
I, Bethany Johnson, have experienced the harsh, cold reality of being a perfect child . I m
currently walking home from school in the cold, windy streets of Greenwich Village in New
York City. It s fall season right now, so it gets pretty chilly around here. I m currently wearing a
gray beanie with my brown, wavy hair placed down, my cozy white knitted sweater, and my blue
denim jeans that lead down to my comfy black uggs. I looked at the beautiful sight around me,
smelling the coffee beans and feeling the fresh autumn breeze on my face. There were many... Show

In that time, I never really knew what happened. I would always question my mom but she told
that he had business to take care of. But one night, I saw my mom crying and I went to comfort
her only to see she was holding a picture of my dad. Then, I connected all the pieces together and
finally figured it out. I never got to spend time with him since he was always on business trips,
and now I never will. After my dad died, my mom changed. She was more controlling over me
than ever and hovering me most of the time. I knew why though, she didn t want to lose me the
way she did with dad. That s why I don t complain that much because I know inside she still misses
him and I do

Tips For Buying The Right Golf Glove
Tips for Buying the Right Golf Glove
The golf glove is an important component in the whole golfing setup because it provides a tackier
grip, which helps prevent club twisting when taking a swing or shot. Majority of golfers also wear
gloves to protect their hands from blisters, calluses and elements such as the sun and rain. Golf
gloves are made from three main types of material; synthetic, leather and hybrid material. A high
quality leather glove promises ultimate comfort because it is soft and pliable while a glove made
from synthetic material is more durable, flexible and cheap. Synthetic gloves are cheaper largely
because they do not breathe as well as leather made gloves. Hybrid gloves, on the other hand, are
mostly made from real and synthetic leather.
Hybrid gloves are popular because they aptly combine the benefits of true leather and synthetic
materials to guarantee comfort and firm grip. Because of increased competition, the best golf
gloves are marketed with features and functionalities like premium Cabrera leather, excellent fit and
use of micro vent material for enhanced breathability. The other types of golf gloves in the market
include all weather gloves, thermal gloves and golf mitts. The challenge amateur and professional
golfer s face when buying gloves is choosing a product that will work for them without
compromising quality. This decision is usually influenced by a number of factors, key among them
personal preference, budget, material and level of

Jacqueline Kennedy, Jackie Kennedy
What is an ethical leader? There is many definitions for it and there is many of them out there.
One example of an ethical leader is Jacqueline (Jackie) Kennedy, through the way she holds
herself and fights for what she believes in. One definition of an ethical leader is someone that
makes the effort to be a good role model for those around them, and actively tries to make changes
based on their moral values.
Jacqueline Kennedy was born to Jack and Janet Bouvier July 28, 1929, with one younger sibling.
In 1940 her parents got divorced due to her father s constant infidelities. Her mother got remarried
to Hugh Auchincloss, giving Jackie an additional two younger siblings. Being the oldest, she was
given the responsibilities of taking care of them and doing housework.
Jackie was sent to Chapin School for girls in Manhattan where she found interests in art, sculptures,
and horses. In 1944, Jackie attended Miss Porter s School in Farmington, Connecticut, where she
decided that she did not want to be a housewife, as it was too dull and unrewarding. She then
attended Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York. In 1949, she transferred to the University of
Paris, France, where she became fluent in French and gained a deep understanding and appreciation
of the history and literature. Jackie then transferred to Smith College in Massachusetts, and then to
George WashingtonUniversity in Washington, DC., where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts
degree. After she graduated she won an

The Brain And Its Anatomy
Our brains have the enough power to make all of the many different parts of our body function
the way it should. It can make our body do involuntary actions that constantly keep us alive and
healthy, and we don t even realize all of the things that it is capable of. As Nicolaus Steno once
said, The brain, the masterpiece of creation, is almost unknown to us (web.stanford.edu, 2014). The
brain and its anatomy were first studied by the Egyptians in 1700 B.C., and ever since then, its
immeasurable power has been continuously astonishing us with new and amazing discoveries of
previously unknown capabilities (faculty.washington.edu, 2014). The first person to dissect the
brain to study relationships between the brain and optic nerves was... Show more content on

And, since this experiment is about how hand eye dominance affects the hand eye coordination
used when shooting a basketball, the occipital lobe is one of the most important parts of the brain
in regards to this experiment.
Everyone knows that the typical human being has a dominant hand. The only case in which a
person does not have a dominant hand is if that person can use their right and left hand equally
well. In this case this person is ambidextrous. But, the typical human also has a dominant foot, ear,
side of the brain, and eye. (web.stanford.edu, 2014) Eye dominance, or eyedness, is the tendency to
prefer visual input from one eye to the other. This is similar to left or right handedness. For people
who have anisometropic myopia, a different amount of nearsightedness in each eye, the eye with
more myopia or nearsightedness is the dominant eye (web.stanford.edu, 2014). The easiest way
to test your eyedness is to create a small triangle with your hands, with your thumbs as the base
of the triangle and your left hand s fingers overlapping your right hand s fingers , and center it
around an object, such as a doorknob, about 5 10 feet away with both eyes open. Then, close
your left eye. If you can still see the object with your right eye opened, then your right eye is
your dominant eye. If the object moves out of your view, then close your right eye. You will most
likely see the object with your left eye, in which case your dominant eye is your left eye

The Toursim Industry in South Africa
The tourism industry is a vast growing trade that in recent years has seen a significant increase in its
contribution to the GDP (Gross Domestic Product) of various respective countries. South Africa is
one of the countries that have witnessed tremendous growth in its tourism industry. As much as such
development is a very welcomed phenomenon for any country, growth and development is limited
by a number of constraints. Of importance to this particular study is the issue of seasonality in the
tourismindustry.
Seasonality is defined as the fluctuation of situations that has a direct effect on one or more
variables. (McCarthy 1994:275).According to an article by strathprints journals (www.stathprints
/journals, 25 April) seasonality in tourism has traditionally been regarded as a major problem
which needs to be overcome, but relatively little research has been conducted on the patterns or
causes of this phenomenon.
The question this study aims to unfold is:
What effect does the seasonal nature of the tourism industry have on the providers of components
of the tourism industry, as well as on unemployment in Mbombela?
The aims and objectives of the study are:
To investigate the negative effects seasonality has on the tourism industry in Mbombela.
To highlight the differences in the rates of employment associated with different points within the
seasonal cycle.
To highlight the internal changes enforced by service providers in the tourism industry as a result of

An Effective Water Protection For Human Consumption
The most important thing that sustains life on Earth is Water. The fact that there is limited
available drinking water on Earth, we should look towards improving this limited resource for the
betterment of human society. The important step towards this could be to prevent drinking water
problem from arising in the first place, therefore necessitating the need to formulate an effective
water protection plan. To protect this limited resource, we must manage the human activities that
creates these threats. Source: Pollution Probe: The source water Protection... Show more content on

Pest Control
Substantial Content
I.Importance of natural method of pest control
The problem with broad range conventional pesticides is that they not only kill the bad bugs, but
they rub out the good bugs, too. A garden without natural predators means a world of insects gone
wild. There s nothing left to keep pest levels in check. In fact, chemicals can mean double trouble
because although you wipe out the first wave of pests, the second wave which is not the usual pest,
but another insect moving into the area can cause even greater losses than the insects you were
trying to get rid of in the first place. Another reason to go natural and use beneficials, is that a
greater number of insects are now showing resistance to chemical pesticides. For ... Show more

Garlic: Mix four quarts water, two tablespoons garlic juice do not use garlic powder, it will burn
plants, 32 grams of diatomaceous earth and one teaspoon or rubbing alcohol.
Effects: spray garlic pesticide on sweet potatoes to repel rabbits
Ground Coffee: Leftover coffee grounds make great ingredients to compost. They work as natural
pesticides and literally perk up ailing plants. Place the grounds into the soil surrounding your
plants. The acidity of the coffee is what keeps invaders at bay.
Vegetable oil: If mildew, mold or fungus is a problem, heres a solution you can spray right on
the plant that makes a big difference in a very short time. Combine a gallon of water, a
tablespoon of baking soda and 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil. Put into a spray bottle and mist
plants from top to bottom even in places where there are no signs of a problem.
Dish Washing Liquid: If a fungus has invaded your plants, mix a few drops of dishwashing liquid
and water and wipe it down. You ll be surprised how quickly this will rejuvenate sickly looking
plants!
Egg: To get rid of snails and slugs in your garden, add crushed eggshells to your soil. To them, its
walking on glass, so snails and slugs will tend to avoid the area entirely. If slugs are a continuing
problem, a few pinches of salt will make quick work of them.
C.Physical Method
Time consuming but very natural, this method consists of many things you can physically do to
control bugs and other pests. Picking grubs

The Radioactive Iodine Uptake Of The Thyroid Gland
The radioactive iodine uptake is the measure of the amount of iodine avidity of the thyroid gland
(Cooper, 2003).Physician use RAI to find the functional condition of the thyroid nodules
(Panneerselvan et al., 2013).RAIU is measured at different time intervals mostly 24 hour after the
administration of the isotope, the RAIU is inversely proportional to the concentration of iodine in
the plasma and directly proportional to the thyroidfunctional state (Little, 2006).
Radioactive iodine scans are also useful in patient who show a sign of thyrotoxicosis, it helps in
finding out the cause, in which hyperthyroidism is a type of thyrotoxicosis that give rise to an
increase in uptake, specifically graves disease which has a consistent uptake ... Show more content

Color flow Doppler (CFD) can also be used to further confirm the diagnosis, it measures the blood
flow in the thyroid gland, which is increase in the hyperthyroid GD patient. (Menconi et al.,

flow to the thyroid; examples include painless and sub acute thyroiditis. Also CFD can substitute
radioactive iodine uptake (RAIU) as it is contraindicated in pregnancy (Menconi et al., 2014).

result of the hyperthyroidism, this adverse effect include spontaneous abortion, premature delivery

Real Science Project
The first day of science was highly enjoyable, I was so excited that we finally get to do some real
science projects. In elementary school, we had not worked on science very much. One of my
favorite projects that we have done so far was the cup activity where there was a rubber band
and eight strings were tied to the rubber band. We each took one piece of the string and we were
instructed to work together to try and transfer the rubber band onto the cups, to make a tower.
That activity was highly amusing because it taught us how to work together. When Mrs. Cotter
realized that we could not work together very well, she gave us another activity to do. She
assigned us partners and she gave each pair of partners one piece of string. The pairs of partners
were assigned to tie the string around themselves once, then she told us to untie it without letting go
of each other s hand. That project was... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My class and I continued to do more great activities. One of them was that we were given the
privilege to measure each other and record the results down on a piece of paper. Later on, after
everyone was done measuring, we took out our chromebooks and started transferring the results
to the chromebook. At last, after everyone was done typing the results of the measuring project,
we started something new that we are currently working on. Our class is going on a space trip to
another planet, and our class has to come up with a list of survival items we need, to live in space
for two years. I enjoy doing this project very much, and I have always liked working together on a
project and making lists also based on everyone else s ideas. In general, all the activities we have
worked on in science class this year have been extremely fun. Science class has been by far one of
my favorite classes, I enjoy science and Mrs. Cotter s humor. I certainly hope that we will be able
to do more fun project and experiments in the school year with Mrs.

Charles Darwin s Theory of Evolution by Natural Selection...
Darwin collected and described thousands of animals and plants. In South America he observed the
adaptations of organisms to a variety of habitat from jungle to grassland to mountain habitats. In the
temperate regions the species resembled more closely the species of the tropical regions of South
America rather than the corresponding speciesof the temperate regions of Europe. For example, in
the grasslands of Argentina there are no rabbits, however, there are rodents that resemble rabbits;
these rodents are unrelated to European rabbits but are similar to other rodents in South America.
Moreover, the fossils in South America are dissimilar to European fossils but have similarities with
extant (i.e. currently living) plants and animals... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cuvier founded the science of paleontology and described the differences between the fossil flora
and fauna in different strata of rock: he observed that the more recent strata had fossils that more
closely resembled extant organisms. Cuvier believed that the discontinuities between fossils in
different strata were brought about by catastrophes such as floods which caused the extinction of
many species living at a particular time. This interpretation of earth s history is termed
catastrophism and was also held by many contemporary geologists. By contrast, Hutton and
subsequently Lyell held that geological processes are slow and subtle but that over prolonged
periods of time (millions of years) these can lead to major changes; implicit in this viewpoint is an
age for the earth radically different from the 6,000 years of the biblical creationists.
Other key influences on Darwin were Malthus who had concluded that war and famine were
inevitable as the human population grew more rapidly than available resources, and Lamarck who
had proposed a theory of evolution based on a continuous process of gradual modification due to
acquired characteristics. Both Darwin and Wallace brought together a multitude of facts including
the geographical distribution of organisms, comparative morphology of living organisms and their
fossil precursors. They postulated that long term environmental changes including movement of
land

Martin Luther, A Christian Theologian And Augustinian Monk
Gustavo Huangal
October 8, 2014
Bible 2nd Assessment
Martin Luther Martin Luther, a Christian theologian and Augustinian monk has taught and inspired
the Protestant Reformation. His translation of the Bible has helped to develop the correct version
of the German language. Martin Luther was a great man. Martin Luther was born on the 10th of
November, 1483 in Eisleben, Germany. Hans and Margaretha Luder were his parents. In 1501,
he had been enrolled in the University of Erfurt at the age of seventeen. But all of that changed
during a harsh thunderstorm where a lightning bolt struck near him on his way back to school.
With terror he yelled these words, Help St. Anne! I ll become a monk! Since then, he dropped out
of law school and started attending monastery there. He would devote himself only to things like
fasts, long hour prayers, and constant confessions. He tried a lot to change this, but the more he
tried to do this for God, it always seemed that he became more aware of his sinfulness. Martin
Luther eventually ended up being good with God personally when his teacher, Johann von Staupitz,
ordered that Luther needed more work to distract him from all his thoughts. So then Luther was
ordained to the priesthood. So in the year of 1508, Martin Luther started to teach theology at the
University of Wittenberg. The difficult time of study for academic degrees and preparation for the
hard lectures drove Martin Luther to study the Scriptures very deep. Luther engaged

Essay On Garifuna
I. Introduction Despite a recently enacted property law addressing badly needed reforms and a 12
year multi million dollar World Bank land titling project that is in its fifth year, progress in
resolving land disputes in Honduras between the indigenous Garifuna peoples and a variety other
parties remains where it has always been: at a virtual standstill. At the heart of the problem lies a
reluctance of the Garifuna people to understand, accept, and participate in the land dispute
resolution system. This paper examines the reasons why the Garifuna reject the current land dispute
resolution system and provides practical solutions to the land dispute resolution process. These
solutions are designed to incentivize Garifuna participation in the land dispute resolution system
and get the system out of its current ineffectual state of gridlock. This paper begins in Section II by

The Garifuna originate from the 17th century when, on the Caribbean island of St. Vincent,
runaway and shipwrecked Africans intermixed with the native Arawak Carib population.1 In 1772,
a yearlong war over land erupted between the Garifuna and the British resulting from British
attempts to exile the Garifuna from the island.2 Although fighting ceased when each side agreed
to sign a peace treaty, the uneasy peace ended when the British violated the treaty and renewed the
war with the Garifuna twenty seven years later.3 In 1797, the Garifuna were defeated and exiled
to the Honduran island of Roatan. 4 From there, the Garifuna migrated onto the northern Central
American coast, establishing settlements from as far east as Nicaragua to as far west as Belize.5
The Garifuna are indigenous to Honduras because they arrived before Honduras achieved
independence from Spain in the 1800s.6 From their very beginning, Garifuna have often been on

American History For People Learning English
From VOA Learning English, welcome to The Making of a Nation, our weekly program of
American history for people learning English. I m Steve Ember.
Today, we tell the story of how a British attack on Fort McHenry in the port of Baltimore led to The
Star Spangled Banner, America s national anthem.
In the summer of 1814, British forces attacked Washington, DC. They burned the Capitol building,
the White House and other public buildings. Then they withdrew to their ships in the Chesapeake
Bay.
British General Robert Ross and Admiral George Cockburn led the attack on Washington. Next they
planned to attack Baltimore. But the people of Baltimore expected the attack, and began to prepare
for it. Fifty thousand of them built defenses around the city.
The port of Baltimore was protected by Fort McHenry. The guns and cannon of the fort could
prevent British ships from reaching the city.
The British began with a land attack against Baltimore. General Ross, Admiral Cockburn and about
4,000 British soldiers landed at North Point, a finger of land reaching into the Chesapeake Bay.
From North Point, it was a march of about 22 kilometers to Baltimore. The British began marching
at about seven in the morning. General Ross and Admiral Cockburn stopped their men after an
hour. The two commanders and several of their officers rode to a nearby farmhouse and forced the
family living there to give them breakfast.
When the British officers finished eating, the farmer asked General Ross

Juvenile And The Juvenile Justice System
The Juvenile Justice System and our Law Enforcement
Blair Klostermann
Upper Iowa University
The juvenile justice system is similar to the criminal justice system. This system is where
juveniles are processed, and may be arrested after referrals for juvenile delinquency. Juvenile
justice is very different in every state and can be very similar as well because every system has
limited jurisdiction and that most focus on the offenders and not their offenses. Therefore, there are
51 juvenile justice systems in the United States. The United States has the juvenile justice system
because children are very different than adults in that they can be better receptive for change and
also being easier to rehabilitate. Moreover, the main goal of the juvenile justice system is
rehabilitation (Juvenile Law Center). The juvenile justice system is made up of police, courts,
corrections, probation and parole services, as well as community based programs to name a few
(book). The juvenile justice system is always changing and developing new ideas. The first
example of a change or development can be the status offense reform. The basis of this are they
are trying to keep the non delinquent kids form the juvenile justice system. Some examples of
status offenses are skipping school, or running away offenses that are not illegal for adults.
These offenses can lead to possibly detention, which might do very little to rehabilitate or change
the issues that juvenile has. How this can all change is to bring these troubled kids to
community based services to make them learn that it is possible to change and become a better
person. Some other examples of changes or developments in our juvenile justice system (that I
won t go into detail about) are the quality of aftercare and how the system is trying to reduce
racial ethnic discrepancies and making it fairer for everyone (models for change). Right now, we
are going to focus on the changes and developments made to the juvenile justice system pertaining
to law enforcement. First, I want to list reasons how our police/law enforcement are involved in
our juvenile justice system. Law enforcement play a huge role in the juvenile justice system
because they play the role of

Advantages Of Quantum Cryptography
Quantum Cryptography
Introduction
Quantum cryptography is a new method for secret communications offering the ultimate security
assurance of the inviolability of a Law of Nature. Unlike traditional classical cryptography, which
uses mathematical techniques to restrict eavesdroppers, quantum cryptography is focused on the
physics of information. The development of quantum cryptography be classified as either public
key or secret key methods. This cryptography also involving two or more parties who may not
trust one another. The best known cryptographic problem is the transmission of secret messages.
Suppose wish to communicate in secret. For example, you may wish to give your credit card
number to a merchant in exchange for goods, hopefully ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mathematical cryptography, as bad as it sometimes is, is the strongest link in most security chains.
Our symmetric and public key algorithms are pretty good, even though they re not based on much
rigorous mathematical theory. The real problems are elsewhere: computer security, network
security, user interface and so on.
Even quantum cryptography doesn t solve all of cryptography: The keys are exchanged with
photons, but a conventional mathematical algorithm takes over for the actual encryption.
Conclusion
Cryptography is used frequently. For example, credit card numbers are encrypted when you buy
something on the internet. Many government agencies are used cryptography to get messages
safely around the world. Public key cryptography is an innovation and which is an unavoidable
part of almost all security protocol and application. Being able to negotiate a shared secret between
two devices online without the need of any exchange of secret data created a breakthrough in secure

The Cardiovascular System Of The Body
The Cardiovascular System
Although every system of the body is important, the cardiovascular system is one of the most
important. Any complications originating within the cardiovascular system will have some kind
of adverse effect on the other systems of the body. It is important, especially being a part of the
EMS system, to know the different parts, what can potentially go wrong, how to effectively
manage those problems and to take care of our patients as best we can. The heart, blood vessels, and
the blood itself are what the cardiovascular system is composed of. The heart, being the most
important part of this system, is uniquely designed, and is the body s pump. It allows for every
part of the body to receive the oxygen and nutrients it needs to function properly and efficiently.
The heart is known as an organ because of the crucial role it performs within the body. The
muscle the heart is made up of is known as the cardiac muscle. This specific muscle is distinct
because doesn t fit into a specific group and is involuntary, able to work on its own. When
detached from the central nervous system, it is still able to produce its own impulses. The heart
has four chambers, two are called ventricles, and the other two are known as the atria. Each

Using Empathy In Psychosocial Psychology
Empathy is an important tool in all parts of life, both personally and professionally. Empathy is
both a tool and a state of mind, which allows us to understand other people s points of view. By
using empathy, we can better understand the people around us, weather they are friends or clients.
Many jobs rely on using empathy to connect with their clients, whether they be Doctors or work in
advertising, being able to understand the feeling, fears, and points of view of other people is
imperative in the world of business. Without empathy it s hard to from connections with people,

For instance, being able to connect to, and relate to a patient with depression is essential if you
want them to be able to open to you and share what the root of their problems are. Even when
conducting labs empathy is useful, not only to help relate to, and better understand the data that
your participants give you, but by using empathy your assuring that the study is staying ethical.
Having an in depth understanding of empathy as a psychologist is useful when trying to solve a
problem between two patients, and by using my knowledge of empathy I would be able help them
understand how each other feel about what ever situation is causing the problem. Another way
empathy is useful in psychology is if you are working within a prison, and are trying to help
rehabilitate criminals. By using empathy, it could be possible to designed a program that could
teach empathy to violent criminals inside of prisons, and eventually help them reenter society.
Empathy is a necessary part when working in psychology, but having too much empathy can also
be dangerous for a

The Dynamic Between Men And Women During The Heian Era
Genji Monogatari, credited to Murasaki Shikibu, defines contemporary aristocratic etiquette and
lifestyles of the Heian era. Of Fujiwara lineage, the clan which organized marriages with the
emperor, renders intimate credibility of court life albeit from eyes of her middle aristocratic origin.
Society s portrayal in this story primarily chronicles the life of Genji, whose rank is in the upper
echelon of nobility, which in the eleventh century numbers about 5,000, and thus explores what is
tolerable and preferential to their cultured tastes. Given that aristocrats were preoccupied with their
upbringing and level in society, they were deeply sensitive to nature s evanescent beauty, the art of
poetry, calligraphy, music, etcetera. Insight unto the dynamic between men and women within this
regal milieu emphasizes status, social and emotional, and value, gauged by capability, amongst both
sexes. The women during the Heian era are customarily confined to study the arts within their home
and seen solely by their father and husband throughout their life. Estranged from view by blinds and
screens their interaction outside of their dwelling is contingent upon further shrouds from lurking
eyes of people. Ox drawn carriages possessing a tiny slit to view the outside world along with their
intermittent pilgrimages to temples and shrines were the typical exposures deemed tolerable.

The novel introduces us to a vast network of characters in or connected to the Corleone crime
family. It would take days to attempt to break down each of them individually. Firstly, the
character Luca Brasi gives the reader a proper example of a trusted solider in the family s crime
syndicate. He was the epitome of loyalty, ruthlessness and brute force. Whatever his leader, Vito
Corleone wanted him to do, he did it, without question. Even the murder of his own illegitimate
son was committed without hesitation or regret. He shows no redeeming qualities. The Dons
eldest child, Sonny was a hot headed and irrational individual. The book doesn t exactly gives us
any particular reason for his temperament or provide an extensive depiction of his background.
Therefore, the reader is left feeling a little cold and emotionless when he s gunned down later in the

The Battle On Terror And The War On Drugs
In many ways, the war on terror and the war on drugs have merged. The type of red scare
rhetoric from the McCarthy era became nearly interchangeable with the drug war and terrorism
during the Reagan administration. We re in the middle of a major epidemic...Parents have a
right to feel terror, said Donald Ian MacDonald, Reagan s top drug advisor. He was referring to
drugs. Marlin Fitzwater, Reagan s Press Secretary openly admitted that everybody wants to out
drug each other in terms of political rhetoric. This battle of hyperbole was waged on both sides
of the political aisle. Even liberals like former Rep. Stephen Solarz (D NY) compared the danger
from the cartels to intercontinental ballistic missiles and wondered why we treat (their) threat so
lightly? Likewise, former Rep. Thomas F. Hartnett (R SC) declared that drugs were a national
security threat...worse than any nuclear warfare or any chemical warfare waged on any battlefield.
The two issues officially fused during the Reagan administration when the term narcoterrorism was
coined and an effective propaganda tool was formed. The Reagan administration asserted that drug
money from Latin America would be a source of funds to support insurgencies and subversion. This
eased the way for the Reagan administration to amend the Posse Comitatus Act thereby allowing
military involvement in the drug war. The Posse Comitatus Act was an act of Congress in 1878
which prohibited the government from using the

Bronze Bow Quotes
Matthew 1:44 says, But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.
(Matthew 1:44). This verse means that God wants us to love and pray for our enemies, not to
hate them. This verse is also true in a lot of different books like The Bronze Bow. In the novel
The Bronze Bow, by Elizabeth George Speare, the theme Love can overcome Hate is shown by
Samson, Jesus, and Simon to Daniel.
First, Samson displays love to Daniel in many distinctive ways. He works in Rosh s camp for
Daniel by carrying water to the camp, hunting for food, and keeping Daniel s kiln going (Pg. 29
31). Also, Samson cares for Daniel by sleeping by him and protecting him (Pg. 34 35). Most of
all, Samson surrenders his own life to save Daniel and his friends to rescue Joel instead of
staying safe and protecting himself (Pg. 207 210). Above all, Samson did all these things for
Daniel to recompense him for what Daniel did for him. Daniel freed Samson from his chains and
Samson saw that Daniel was the one who saved him, not Rosh (Pg. 14). Samson feels like he must

Simon shows love while caring for Daniel s family by alerting him that his grandmother is
dying and by giving his house up for Leah, Daniel s sister (Pg. 113, 121). He also cares for

Simon explains certain parts of Jesus teaching that can relate to his life to Daniel like, He says
that the only chains that matter are fear and hate because they chain our souls. (Pg. 244). And,
Simon informs and shows Daniel that he needs to put his faith and hope in Jesus so that he can
have eternal life forever by how it affects his own life (Pg. 242 244). Simon s faith in Jesus made
an effect on Daniel in the way he acted towards Daniel s vow of hate against the Romans for his

Overseas Chinese and Chinese People Essay
American Chinese America is a nation consisting of people from different areas with multiple
cultures. As a result, lots of Americans have their ancestors in other countries. Even though they are

Americans have been one of the large groups of hyphenated Americans since a long time ago. This
passage mainly observes the living conditions of Chinese Americans in America and tries to analyze
how the hyphenation identity impacts their thoughts and life. The first section gives a brief

have the common identity. That is, hyphenated American. As a hyphenated American, one of the
most common scenes they have to face up is discrimination and hostility from some natives.
Chinese people seem to have nothing in common with natives: different beliefs, different habits
and different culture. People can not deny the fact that Chinese Americans have gains as well as
loss influenced by the special identity. (Sowell, 2011, pp.244) First of all, the hyphenated
American identity confuses some traditional Chinese Americans. It is hard for some old Chinese
immigrants to accept the hyphenated identity since they are still Chinese people in their deep
mind. At the same time, most ideas and concepts, as well as daily habits, are difficult for
traditional immigrants to be used to. The novel Scrapping (Wang, 2000) has presented the
conflicts in an extreme way. Scrapping is a kind of treatment in Chinese. However, it has been

explains that uncertainty must be made into a tool, to find the courage to accept and embrace
uncertainty . However that concept can be very delicate and unrealistic for our world, which is why
Barry goes on to explain hypothetical situations to utilize the concept. Barry starts off his
explanation by comparing the strength and conviction of uncertainty against the weakness of

The Admission Fee At Disneyland Park Essay
In 1955 the admission fee to only get into the Disneyland park was only $1.00 and rides were
from 10c to 75c. They also had ticket books available where you could buy admission and 8 rides
for $2.50. After three months A Day at Disneyland was introduced which included admission
and 10 rides in one set price. All the rides were categorized from A to E with the A rides being
cheaper and E rides were the more expensive and popular rides. There were different sized ticket
books which varied in the amounts that each ticket could be used. There were never enough of
the D and E tickets in the books so Disney set up Ticket Booths in each park (Fantasyland had two),
where people could purchase additional rides they needed which priced from 10c to 90c each. All
the rides had to keep getting re categorized over the years as new rides were being developed and
the older rides became less popular. In 1980 Disney raised the admission price to $10.00 USD
which included admission into the parks and 10 rides. When the Epcot park was opened the
coupons would not work so on October 1, 1982 all of the parks created a pay one price per park.
This meant people had to pay to get into each park separately. In 1982, Disney dropped the idea of
individual ride tickets to a single admission price with unlimited access to all attractions. When
Walt DisneyWorld opened in 1971, tickets to get in were only $3.50 USD. In 1994 park hopping
was created where one person could hop between the parks

Comfort in Simplicity Some of the most insignificant objects may be the most important despite
where it may be, how it looks, and how little of an impact it makes on one s life. One can be

billowing and beautiful as they stun the viewers of its intricate magnificence. Even so, deep in
the recesses of their heart they may be desiring for something more simple. Beauty does not
equal comfort. When we reach the end of the day, we want reach for something cozy and

The Role Of Nudity In The Rolling Stone Magazine
The narrative in the world and America especially, is constantly changing and the line between
appropriate and inappropriate seems to be constantly shifting. The cover image of Julia Louis
Dreyfus in the Rolling Stone magazine is a prime example, of how the use of nudity in the cover
reveals the twisted narrative in American society and entertainment. To have a comprehensive

It is now so deeply integrated in our society that a piece of entertainment loses its value when nudity
is not present in some form. With all this nudity floating around, one may ask what role does it
play in displaying the message of the image. Nudity itself is a challenging ideology to our
society, the line between appropriate vs inappropriate and acceptable versis unacceptable have
seem to grow thin. The act of nudity can represent a multitude of ideology before being nude
was seen as sacred and the act of being seen nude especially in public was forbidden. But as the
narrative has evolved overtime being nude is now correlated to being free and open minded.
Being nude in our society is expressing yourself in a manner that you deem acceptable, that we
shouldn t lot be limited to what society deems appropriate. It is actually a very selfish narrative
where everything revolves around the person and his or her personal goals.Marita Sturkin and
Lisa Cartwright hit on the ideology of individual in the Practices of Looking, One could say that
ideology is the means by which certain values, such as individual freedom, progress, and the
importance of home, are made to seem like natural, inevitable aspects of everyday life (Sturkin
Cartwright 21). This kind of egocentric narrative is present in the Rolling Stone cover when
dissected fully, and it shows how the narrative in America is more like me, me, me instead of us,
us, us. Even though nudity is now somewhat encouraged by our entertainment, there are still levels
to nudity. In most cases when a woman is presented nude she is usually presented in a way that is
not too exposing, just as Julia Dreyfus is doing in the cover. This is due to the fact that there is still a

Megafaunal Mass Extinction
During Late Pleistocene a megafaunal mass extinction took place. It s still debated whether humans
are to blame for this, since this megafaunal extinction happened after the arrival of humans or if
climate change is entirely to blame. Fossil evidence has been of great help in finding what factors
might ve caused this extinction. This mass extinction that took place is related to the Anthropocene
because if humans were the main cause, humans need to be more careful now because their actions
may lead to more extinctions. The observations made were the types of species that went extinct
with climate change, and what humans did to contribute to this mass extinction. There are two
methods that have been used to measure the rate these extinctions have happened. The first
approach was using oxygen isotope data from benthic foraminifera. This data was gathered from the
Pacific, Atlantic, and Indian oceans. Moreover, the other approach is looking at the timing of
vegetational changes... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, in the Southern Hemisphere there isn t a correct answer to why the extinction happened
since it happened before the Northern Hemisphere extinction and after humans were around

arrived, but this isn t certain (Barnosky et al. 2004). What was found from these isotope records is
that the deglaciation was neither faster or greater than it s been in the past years. Also, the climate
changes that happened around the time of the Pleistocene extinction in North and South America,
Africa, and Eurasia were not uncommon (Barnosky et al. 2004). Furthermore, the timing of
vegetational changes correlates with the rate the extinctions took place in some countries, but in

Gender Roles And Gender Stereotypes In The Media
Gender roles influence every characteristic and aspect of our life, from how we feel about
ourselves to the degree of our contribution in social life. From a ripe young age, children become
exposed to this type of gender bias right away, which can negatively affect and shape their whole
outlook on life. Consequently, as these young boys and girls mature both physically and
emotionally and move on into adulthood, they are, in essence, shoved into a world that impacts
their attitudes and behaviors towards genderroles and stereotypes. These specific attitudes and
behaviors first cultivate in the private doors of their parent s house. Afterwards, these same
biases become reinforced by the child s peers, school experience (education), television viewing,
and, of course, advertisements in the realm of print and television media. From the looks of it, it
is near impossible, for children to not become subject to some degree of gender bias at an early
age. As a child grows and develops, the stereotypes follow them into the next phases of their lives
(i.e. adolescence) and then on into adulthood. Not only are these gender stereotypes destroying
girls, they are also killing boys. The components of this essay will attempt to illustrate how
advertising in print and television helps to perpetuate gender stereotypes in our world. Along with
that, one must ask the question of how much harm these negative biases in gender roles truly
affects the minds of men, women, and young children.

It is also clever that he uses the title of the poem as the 1st line in stanza 1. Language is
figurative and the reader is left in no doubt what the poet is saying as the words seem to dance
along fluttering, twinkle, tossing glee and bliss . You have the use of personification where
daffodils are personified as a crowd of people, also as dancers and this continues throughout the
poem. Where he mentions never ending this is an exaggeration as his eyes could only see a
certain distance away. The use a metaphor is how he describes the memories he has when he
mentions inward eye . Alliteration is also used for example, sparkling and sprightly as well as
beneath and besides . Use of O er instead of Over is called Archiac i.e it is abbreviated. This was
used a lot by Romantic poets to give it an oldern Romantic quality and also fit in line with the meter

Cleveland State University. An Exploration of Charlie Chaplin?s Influences, Symbolism, and Use
of Sound in The Great Dictator (1940) In the early 1900?s, Charlie Chaplin became one of the
most famous filmmakers in American history. His clumsy portrayal of The Little Tramp in many

career was just getting started. By the 1930?s, sound had taken over the silver screen; however,

By this time, Chaplin, a vocally political anti fascist, had expressed his dislike for Germany?s
Fuhrer and had been working on The Great Dictator since 1937 (Cole, 2001). Despite this,
Chaplin was pressured ?either to render the images and message of his film inoffensive to Hitler
and Mussolini, which meant eliminating any anti fascist propaganda element, or else to drop the
project altogether? from the start of his work on the film (Cole, 2001). Until this point in time, the
American cinema had ignored Hitler?s presence and actions, as propaganda films were still slightly
looked down upon, due to their misuse during World War I (Cole, 2001). Perhaps another reason for
Chaplin?s public dislike of Hitler, was that his wife at the time, Paulette Goddard, was herself
Jewish (Brownlow Kloft, 2002). In the film itself, Chaplin shows many events that reflect the
reality of late 1930?s Germany including most prominently the treatment of the Jewish people
through representations of anti semitic graffiti and an event reminiscent of Kristallnacht. In the
early scenes of the Jewish ghetto, the windows all have painted graffiti reading Jew (Sherman,
2002). During the beginning of Jewish persecution in Germany, it was not uncommon for Nazis and
Nazi sympathizers to paint anti semitic texts on to the windows of Jewish owned shops and homes.

If Jesus Christ Is Not God, And The Resurrection Never
If Jesus Christ is not God, and the resurrection never happened, then the Christian Faith being lived
out by billions of Christians scattered throughout the entire world, is complete vanity. Thus, one of
the most popular arguments against the Deity of Christ stems from the idea that most of the
biblical writers often referenced Jesusas both speaking to, and being sent (John 17:3) by the Father;
furthermore, Jesus, while interacting with the apostles, often used language that expressed the idea
that His God, was also their God (John 20:17). However, the real problem with Jesus identity
emanates from data contained in the four gospels in which Jesus and His followers make strong
assertions about His divinity and pre existence (Kreeft ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jesus Christ, during His earthly ministry, healed the sick (Matthew 8:5), cast out demons (Luke
4:33), raised the dead (Luke 8:41), fed the five thousand (Mark 6:30), walked on water (Matthew
14:26), and calmed a storm (Mark 4:37). Thus, Jesus performed miracles in order to establish that
He was indeed incarnate of God, and in doing so, Jesus demonstrated power over the elements of
nature, demons, sickness, and even death. However, many in Jesus time, were still not convinced of
His deity. Therefore, Jesus instructed the apostles in John 10:38, to believe in the miracles as proof
that the Father and Jesus were one (Yancey, 1997). Perhaps the best evidence concerning Jesus
deity and the miracles today rests on the fact that neither Buddha, Confucius, Muhammed or other
religious founders orchestrated miracles nor rose from the dead, only Christianity and Christianity s
founder, Jesus Christ can stake those claims (Yancey, 1997).
Further proof of Jesus deity centers directly on Jesus attributes. Hence, John 1:1 affirms the
eternality of Christ with the verb was suggesting Jesus continuous existence in time past (Enns,
2014, p. 239). In Matthew 28:20, Jesus demonstrated omnipresence by promising the disciples that
He would be always with them, and in John 4:18, Jesus demonstrated omniscience by exposing a
Samaritan Woman s troubled history even though Christ had not met the woman previously (Enns,
20.14). Furthermore, Jesus validated His

Now, what does it do you may be asking? These tiny things provide a lot for many unicellular

Cilia allows the cells to move through water, being locomotor appendages. Also, when the cilia is

Eowyn goes to war, despite the fact that women were not allowed to pick up arms, let alone go
into battle. By going to battle, Eowen becomes a metaphor for the strength and bravery that
women often display.. In a similar manner, it was Eowyn who was able to kill a Nazgul, whereas
none of the men were able to kill the Nazgul. Giving Eowyn the ability to kill a Nazgul, whereas
men are not given the ability to do so implies that some women have more power than men.
Similarly, the juxtaposition of her going to war with that of her sitting next to ThГ©oden
indicates that women are seen or taught to be less strong than white, whereas they are not.
Similarly, Galadriel is not always depicted in a negative light. As stated by Glenn, Ginsberg and

Analysis Of Wonder Woman
At First the World didn t Deserve Wonder Woman
When we think about the genre that is Superheroes, there are many names that come to mind
Superman, Thor, Batman, and Ironman to name a few. That the superhero world is a boy s club,
were the focus is on them saving the world and while there are women in the genre they have not
been the focus, but recently that changed with the release of Wonder Woman. Given the recent
political issues and what many feels is an attack on the female form, Wonder Woman was a bright
light for not only for women and little girls alike, but for the superhero genre as well. Wonder
Woman is the ideal of girl power and strength. She is as strong and courageous as any man; thus,
she has earned the respect of both females and males around the world.
We were first introduced to Wonder Woman during World War II, by William Moulton Marston, a
Harvard trained psychologist and lawyer. When we start with the obvious that being that Wonder
Woman was the first major superhero filmwith a woman as the lead, something that many felt
would never be successful, but with $103.1 million made on opening weekend and an entire
gross of $409 million , this film was wildly successful, and included with that success it was also
the biggest opening ever for a female director . Many people however would argue that Catwoman
that starred Halle Berry was the first female superhero movie, but they would be remiss to learn that

Similarities Between Boo Radley And Tom Robinson
Based on the story of To Kill a Mockingbird, I feel that a mockingbird could be an object of which
the concept of it in the book could define Boo Radley and Tom Robinson. ...it s a sin to kill a
mockingbird (said by Atticus). (Lee, 94) (Miss Maudie) Your father s right, she said.
Mockingbirds don t do one thing but make music for us to enjoy. They don t eat up one people s
gardens, don t nest in corncribs, they don t do one thing but sing their hearts out for us. That s
why it is a sin to kill a mockingbird. (Lee, 94) Boo Radley is like a mockingbird because everyone
in the town links a horrible story to his name (story found in Chapter 1, pages 14 16). However,
he didn t do anything harmful to anyone. At the end, he was the one who saved Jem and Scout
from being attacked by Bob Ewell (event took place in ch. 28). Boo Radley is harmless and did
good, like a mockingbird. Boo saving the kids is similar to the mockingbird s music. Next, Tom
Robinson is like a mockingbird because he was helping Mayella Ewell with some chores. However,
he was accused by the Ewell family of raping Mayella Ewell. Tom Robinson did NOT rape
Mayella, but the Ewells were able to get away with the accusation because Tom Robinson was
black and the Ewells were white. Bob Ewell, Mayella s father, was the one who beat Mayella
and caused the bruises and marks on her body in which they used as proof of Tom beating and
raping her. Tom was simply helping Mayella with chores and got himself into a mess he couldn t
get out of all because he was black. Tom is accused of being guilty and is placed in jail. In an
attempt to escape, officers shoot Tom. He was killed even though he didn t do anything. Tom s
help and care are the mockingbird s music.

businesses. More importantly, it changed the way businesses interact with clients, customers,
suppliers and others, giving new access like never seen before. By understanding the costs

for your business and why despite the costs, we think you should invest. This list will explain the

Immanuel Kant And Good Will
Immanuel Kant begins his piece of work by outlining that humans have desires and appetites
(Sommers 1985, p.86). According to Kant, morals are classed very highly due to the fact that
humans have the capacity to function reasoning. The main question however, does the moral
reason have absolute value? A key argument within the text is Good will. Good will enables an
individual to perform an effect. Kant argues that it is important that all acts must be done through
the use of good will. This is because by acting through your good will, you are making sure the
action can also be good. This then can lead to good consequences. Although, personally, this has
made me think of bad actions leading to good consequences, that sometimes it is good

Ten Days In A Mad-House
Nellie Bly, a journalist and social reformer of the late nineteenth century, sought to uncover existing
corruption in social institutions through writing expose features. A feminist, social activist, and
writer, Bly both contributed to and was influenced by the social and literary forces of the time
period. During the late eighteen hundreds, Nellie Blychallenged social expectations of women,
questioned the morality of certain social institutions, and defined a distinctive writingstyle by
incorporating the trends of the time into her own approach. At sixteen, Nellie Bly, then named
Elizabeth Jane Cochran, began her course as a feminist in 1885 by writing a letter in opposition to
an article that touted the home as the proper domain for women. While Bly s progressive response
to this article demonstrated a modern approach to the role of women, the argument that women are
bound to domestic duties was a stubborn and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This cultural force influenced her work as muckraking journalism broke through as a mainstream
genre. One of Bly s most well known works, Ten Days in a Mad House, documents Bly s experience
in a mental health institution as a sane person faking insanity. Through this account, the journalist
sheds light on the mistreatment of patients, cruelty of staff, and inability for patients to prove their
sanity with a focus on the women of the institution. At the end of Bly s expose is a call to action
with the hopeful implication that the problems she has witnessed could be easily fixed if they are
addressed. This optimistic sentiment is congruent with the empowered nature of late nineteenth
century reformers who organized for large scale policy change. Like Upton Sinclair who authored
an exposГ© entitled The Jungle regarding corruption within the meat packing industry, Nellie Bly
used journalism to expose injustice and initiate policy

St. Thomas More Discourse Community
Before delving into the the discourse community, it is essential to provided clarity for the term that
is used throughout: Discourse community. Discourse, according to James Paul Gee, I use the term
Discourse, with a capital D, for ways of combining and integrating language, actions, interactions,
ways of thinking, believing, valuing, and using various symbols, tools, and objects to enact a
particular sort of socially recognizable identity. (Gee, p. 441). With this, a Discourse community is
a group of people that embody language, actions, beliefs, symbols and so on. St. Thomas More
parish is one the Discourse community that will be examined.
Given that the term is defined, it is pertinent to review the details of the St. Thomas More ... Show

Otherwise, we have dogma, doctrines, and creeds that we also believe. (Kane). To someone outside
of the Catholic church, they would not hold the same beliefs to be true nor understand the reasons
for their belief. Nevertheless, these traditions have been passed down for generations and are still
upheld today. As Kane pointed out, Catholics believe that Holy Communion is the body and blood
of Christ.
Having very traditional beliefs, the Catholic Church uses numerous different terms and practices
that are not familiar with non Catholics. Inside of the Discourse community, Catholics have set
terms that are used widely to discuss different matters. For instances, the term priest is used to
describe what others would typically call a pastor. In addition to the terms used, there are also
rituals that are based on their traditional beliefs. The most drastic of them would be the Eucharist.
This tradition is referred to by Catholics as Holy Communion and is referred to by protestants as
The Lord s Supper. Meg Kane described the differences by saying, Catholics actually believe that
the Eucharist is the body and blood of Christ. It has much more meaning behind it than other
communion services. (Kane). Drastically differing from other religions, Catholics believe that their
priest was granted the ability by God to turn the bread and wine into the body and blood of Jesus
Christ. Traditional values and the faith of Catholics largely affects the Discourse community and

Robert Blincoe Research Paper
This extract originates from A memoir of Robert Blincoe , authored by John Brown, and published
in 1832. The memoirs originally appeared in Richard Carlile s radical newspaper, The Lion, in five
weekly instalments in 1828. They highlighted the dismal working and living conditions abundant in
cotton mills during the 19th century. Robert Blincoe was a workhouse orphan who originally lived
in the St Pancreas Workhouse in London, his memoirs depict how he was subsequently sold to
numerous cotton mills until completing his apprenticeship in 1813 . The source itself focuses on
how the workhouse children were manipulated into believing that the cotton mills were an
institution were apprenticeships could significantly change their lives, such as having plenty of
cash in their pockets and sufficient meals. The reality, later shown in the source, is that the
children were deceived and how their lives were in fact worse than when they were in the
workhouse of St Pancreas.
The memoir was originally created to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After its publication in book format in 1832 a parliamentary committee investigated such
conditions in cotton mills. This resulted in various factory acts, such as the Factory Act of 1833.
This limited the amount of hours children aged between 9 and 12 years could work to 8 hours a
day and up to 48 hours a week. If factories were required to work longer they had to either have a
relay of child labourers or replace them with older children. It has also been speculated that a
memoir of Robert Blincoe was the foundation to which Charles Dickens based his infamous novel
Oliver Twist. Charles Dickens being a parliamentary correspondent during this period makes it
possible to presume that he would be familiar with John Browns work. Additionally there are
parallels between both stories, such as the poor conditions and the inadequate food

The Dark Side Of Enthusiasm
The Dark Side of Enthusiasm Most often, enthusiasm is word of positive connotations, describing
one s passion for something. The Oxford English Dictionary defined it as intense and eager
enjoyment, interest, or approval . However, in Mary Shelley s Frankenstein, we begin to doubt this
positivity of enthusiasm, and question the daunting natures of extreme enthusiasm. As we track
the word enthusiasm and its derivatives, there appear to be a trend in which the meanings
develop; enthusiasm no longer only holds its popular definition. By following this word
throughout the novel, we can see its deterioration as the plot progresses, as it s passed on to
different characters, and as it s associated with different words. The first three appearances of
enthusiasm are in Walton s letters to his sister. I feel my heart glow with an enthusiasm which
elevates me to heaven, Walton says, for nothing contributes so much to tranquilize the mind as a
steady purpose (6); being in the middle of nowhere among merciless ice and lifeless landscape,
Walton s enthusiastic determination and clear purpose in his scientific endeavor is the life force
that keeps him sane and strong. It is almost a requirement in order to survive in a lonely scientific
journey, closely paralleled by Frankenstein s study. These associations of enthusiasm with passion
for learning and discovery continued in the first two chapters after Frankenstein takes over the
narrative. The word showed up once in the beginning of

almost just as much as the players. To hear the crowd roaring your name after a big play was

one for making them is having all the ingredients. To make these you will need an entire roll of

dough and brownie batter from scratch but this way is easier and gives you less of a chance of

I wanted to let you know that I really do love Goucher. It s a great school with a very comfortable
and progressive community; I could really see myself thriving there. However, as much as I love
Goucher, I am somewhat concerned by the school s lacking a classics or Latin program. Because of
this concern, I thoughtit might be beneficial to describe to you both some of the merits of having a
classics program and how Latin has helped me in hopes of persuading you to consider making such
a program in the future.
To begin with, learning Latin makes one aware of the lingering effects of classical society. For

However, I have never regretted taking Latin Partially this is because I feel some kind of
personal victory from having spent seven years as a Latin student. Partially, this is because my
Latin class has provided me with a community unlike any I have ever known. Together, we have
struggled to learn the declensions. Together, we have spent afternoons on the corner of Walnut
Grove and Perkins as we screamed out voices hoarse with various Latin chants to honor Tennessee
s Latin Appreciate Week. We have grouped together to search for Latin moments in every day life.
We have become lifelong friends bonded through years of learning a common language and culture.
However, my Latin class is not the only community I have felt united with by my studies. I have
found that Latin has also united me with past and future generations of peoples who have spoken
Latin or studied Latin.
With my study of Latin, I have stepped onto a bridge that joins a number of peoples of both the
past and the future; that is truly something to be proud of. I want to bring this pride to Goucher.
For this reason and for the reasons of offering culture, awareness of modern language, and
practicality to your students I very seriously hope that you consider adding Latin to your

The Death Of The Khmer Rouge Party Leader, Pol Pot Seized...
From the time humans began to exist in this world, hatred seemed to be a superior attribute that
one comes accustomed to. This inevitable emotion has the ability to provoke people to engage in
acts without thinking; but it is the acts that are premeditated that should be be classified as evil
and brutal. This appalling endeavor is known as genocide, the deliberate destruction of a particular
national, racial or religious group. Between the years of 1975 and 1979, the Khmer Rougeparty
leader, Pol Pot seized power of Cambodiaand forced civilians of urban regions into rural lands for
labor in order to build his own agrarian utopia. Over the course of these four years, the
Cambodians and other minor ethnic groups suffered through labor camps, starvation, and torture
which all led up to their demise. As a result of these mass killings, the country s population
depleted by over 20 percent in just a few years. The country went through hardship during and
even before the genocide began including wars, torment, and considerable numbers of deaths.
Cambodia is a country located within Southeast Asia and is bordered by the countries of Thailand,
Laos, and Vietnam. After being a French protectorate for nearly a century, on 9 November 1953,
Cambodia regained its full independence. The population was over seven million and the country
was ruled by a monarch with Prince Sihanouk as Head of State. However, this happiness was short

Demand And Supply Of Labor
The demand and supply of labor is determined by the labor market. There are two players in the
labor market: the workers and the firms. All workers will supply their labor to firms in exchange
for wages paid by the firms to produce manufactured Items. The need for laborers is comprised of
the firms need to produce any given number of products to supply the consumers demand. Because
of this, the labor market directly affects supply, demand, and the price of manufactured items. Of
the three resources of production (land, labor, capital), the labor segment is the most important.

Industrial capitalism was leading the way and did not share the same ideology and vision of the
labor movement. According to the heritage.org, labor unions today harm the economy because they
function as labor cartels. Labor cartels restrict the number of workers allotted in a company or
industry resulting in an increase in wages for the union workers. Just as the Organization of
Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) attempts to cut the supply of oil to raise its price,
companies pass on those higher wages that have to be paid to the union members to consumers
through higher prices, and often earn lower profits, as reported by James Sherk, What Unions Do:
How Labor Unions Affect Jobs and the Economy. Companies today have less power to increase
prices on consumers without going out of business. Labor unions are also effective at taxing
company investments through the negotiation of higher wages for their members causing a
decrease in profits. Companies that are unionized, counter the negotiations through reduced
investments, thus making the companies less competitive in the market. The graph below provided
by heritage.org, displays union vs. non union manufacturing employment trends. Because of this,
job opportunities are reduced and the economy suffers. (1) Research has shown that unions make
for a slower economic recovery. Over the long run, business investment is reduced due to labor

Mariabylla Merian Algonquin Summary
It is important to note Marie is not in a fact typical Christian woman on her time period. She was
highly religious and had intense spiritual contention to Christ and often had visions where she
claimed that Christ could communicate to her. However it worth nothing that as a Jewish woman
Glikl felt capable and secure enough in her abilities to attempt to run a business while Marie felt
that her only option was to join a nunnery. This makes me believe that perhaps a Jewish widow
had more freedom that a Christian widow during this time period. From Marie writing we are able
to get a sense on how she believed a good Christian girl should behave. When she in the Americans

Protestant or Maria was a Lutheran was the most educated of the women. This makes sense because
the Protestants reformation was the one of reasons that there might have been increased education
opportunities for women. But even the protestant religion only taught girls to habituate girls to the
catechism, to the psalms to honorable behavior and Christian virtue and especially to prayer and to
make them grow up to be Christian and praiseworthy matrons and housekeepers. It is interesting to
note however in the catholic religions nuns where education was valued as we see in the case of
Marie.
The biggest difference between the catholic religion and the Jewish and protestant religion is the
fact that catholic religion values celibacy. In the Jewish religion it as a great honor and privilege
to give birth to sons while in the protestant religion, the big change that occurred was their rejection
of celibacy and there removal of the use of nuns from their religious

Public Health Nursing
According to the author, the assumptions to action research prior to the process were mostly based
on the perception that of Public Health Nursing as just caring for the sick. The author focuses on
nursing roles in providing care to help solve the complex problems that is threatening the southern
state of Virginia. However, after carrying out the researchon the various evolutionary stages, it was
discovered that Public HealthNursing was more than that. Also, the author assumed the need to
emphasize collaboration and partnerships with communities and populations. As such, it involved
the understanding of cultures, politics, economics and other psychosocial problems which in one
way or the other affected the people s health. These core competencies are necessary to implement
community participatory in health promotion. The central complex problems include the frail
elderly population, teen mothers, homeless individuals, smokers, overweight or obesity and youth
substance use and prevention (Kulbok, Thatcher, Park, Meszaros, 2012). Kulbok, et. al, (2012),
define public health nursing practice as the perspective, knowledge base, and the focus of care,
rather than by the site in which these nurses practice. Additionally, from the author s point of view
she found out that Public Health Nursing (PHN) is a type of model that encompasses a one way
flow of resources from a nurse to a patient.

The Theories Of Interpersonal Communication
George Eliot, one of the leading writers of the Victorian era once said that Don t judge a book by
its cover . Nowadays, people tend to judge others by appearance without even starting a
conversation; but, people will find out they are wrong after communicated with each other. This
kind of situation can clearly be defined by the theories of interpersonal communication.
Interpersonal communication is a study of exchanging information between two or more people.

Nonverbal messages occurs during nonverbal communication; Nonverbal communication is
communication without words. One communicates nonverbally when he/she gesture, smile or
frown, widen his/her eyes, move his/her chair closer to someone and so on (DeVito, 129). In the
scene, body communication and eye communication occurs during their conversation. To show that
Jack is pointing at Will, that standing on the entrance, Jack did not use any words but used his body
movement and eye contact on Joshamee. Joshamee receive Jack s message successfully and
accurately, he straight away turns his head to look at Will. This involves the theory of body
communication. Body communication is the gestures he/she make with his/her body and his/her
body s appearance (DeVito, 129). This also involves theory of eye communication. Eye
communication is explained by using Occulesis s concept. Occulesis is the study of the messages
communicated by the eyes, which vary depending on the duration, direction, and quality of the eye
behavior (DeVito, 133). Next, the theory of culture and gesture under nonverbal communication
occurs during their conversation. [They] consider a few common gestures that often use without

  • 2. A Cold Child Research Paper Everyone thinks that being considered the perfect child or the ideal child means that they have the best, happy life anyone could ask for but in reality, it s the complete opposite. For starters, if you have successful parents you are usually given the task to live up to their expectations. With the exception of giving you the amount of pressure no one can handle, especially for a 16 year old girl like me. Then, you have a mom that pretty much controls your whole life and is almost everywhere you go, which is technically a helicopter parent I guess you could say. It s like you re trapped in your own little world by your own mom and there is no chance of you getting out. I, Bethany Johnson, have experienced the harsh, cold reality of being a perfect child . I m currently walking home from school in the cold, windy streets of Greenwich Village in New York City. It s fall season right now, so it gets pretty chilly around here. I m currently wearing a gray beanie with my brown, wavy hair placed down, my cozy white knitted sweater, and my blue denim jeans that lead down to my comfy black uggs. I looked at the beautiful sight around me, smelling the coffee beans and feeling the fresh autumn breeze on my face. There were many... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In that time, I never really knew what happened. I would always question my mom but she told that he had business to take care of. But one night, I saw my mom crying and I went to comfort her only to see she was holding a picture of my dad. Then, I connected all the pieces together and finally figured it out. I never got to spend time with him since he was always on business trips, and now I never will. After my dad died, my mom changed. She was more controlling over me than ever and hovering me most of the time. I knew why though, she didn t want to lose me the way she did with dad. That s why I don t complain that much because I know inside she still misses him and I do ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Tips For Buying The Right Golf Glove Tips for Buying the Right Golf Glove The golf glove is an important component in the whole golfing setup because it provides a tackier grip, which helps prevent club twisting when taking a swing or shot. Majority of golfers also wear gloves to protect their hands from blisters, calluses and elements such as the sun and rain. Golf gloves are made from three main types of material; synthetic, leather and hybrid material. A high quality leather glove promises ultimate comfort because it is soft and pliable while a glove made from synthetic material is more durable, flexible and cheap. Synthetic gloves are cheaper largely because they do not breathe as well as leather made gloves. Hybrid gloves, on the other hand, are mostly made from real and synthetic leather. Hybrid gloves are popular because they aptly combine the benefits of true leather and synthetic materials to guarantee comfort and firm grip. Because of increased competition, the best golf gloves are marketed with features and functionalities like premium Cabrera leather, excellent fit and use of micro vent material for enhanced breathability. The other types of golf gloves in the market include all weather gloves, thermal gloves and golf mitts. The challenge amateur and professional golfer s face when buying gloves is choosing a product that will work for them without compromising quality. This decision is usually influenced by a number of factors, key among them personal preference, budget, material and level of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Jackie was sent to Chapin School for girls in Manhattan where she found interests in art, sculptures, and horses. In 1944, Jackie attended Miss Porter s School in Farmington, Connecticut, where she decided that she did not want to be a housewife, as it was too dull and unrewarding. She then attended Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York. In 1949, she transferred to the University of Paris, France, where she became fluent in French and gained a deep understanding and appreciation of the history and literature. • 5. The Brain And Its Anatomy Our brains have the enough power to make all of the many different parts of our body function the way it should. It can make our body do involuntary actions that constantly keep us alive and healthy, and we don t even realize all of the things that it is capable of. As Nicolaus Steno once said, The brain, the masterpiece of creation, is almost unknown to us (web.stanford.edu, 2014). The brain and its anatomy were first studied by the Egyptians in 1700 B.C., and ever since then, its immeasurable power has been continuously astonishing us with new and amazing discoveries of previously unknown capabilities (faculty.washington.edu, 2014). And, since this experiment is about how hand eye dominance affects the hand eye coordination used when shooting a basketball, the occipital lobe is one of the most important parts of the brain in regards to this experiment. Everyone knows that the typical human being has a dominant hand. The only case in which a person does not have a dominant hand is if that person can use their right and left hand equally well. In this case this person is ambidextrous. But, the typical human also has a dominant foot, ear, side of the brain, and eye. (web.stanford.edu, 2014) Eye dominance, or eyedness, is the tendency to prefer visual input from one eye to the other. This is similar to left or right handedness. For people who have anisometropic myopia, a different amount of nearsightedness in each eye, the eye with more myopia or nearsightedness is the dominant eye (web.stanford.edu, 2014). The easiest way to test your eyedness is to create a small triangle with your hands, with your thumbs as the base of the triangle and your left hand s fingers overlapping your right hand s fingers , and center it around an object, such as a doorknob, about 5 10 feet away with both eyes open. Then, close your left eye. If you can still see the object with your right eye opened, then your right eye is your dominant eye. If the object moves out of your view, then close your right eye. You will most likely see the object with your left eye, in which case your dominant eye is your left eye ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Pest Control Substantial Content I.Importance of natural method of pest control The problem with broad range conventional pesticides is that they not only kill the bad bugs, but they rub out the good bugs, too. A garden without natural predators means a world of insects gone wild. There s nothing left to keep pest levels in check. In fact, chemicals can mean double trouble because although you wipe out the first wave of pests, the second wave which is not the usual pest, but another insect moving into the area can cause even greater losses than the insects you were trying to get rid of in the first place. They work as natural pesticides and literally perk up ailing plants. Place the grounds into the soil surrounding your plants. The acidity of the coffee is what keeps invaders at bay. Vegetable oil: If mildew, mold or fungus is a problem, heres a solution you can spray right on the plant that makes a big difference in a very short time. Combine a gallon of water, a tablespoon of baking soda and 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil. Put into a spray bottle and mist plants from top to bottom even in places where there are no signs of a problem. Dish Washing Liquid: If a fungus has invaded your plants, mix a few drops of dishwashing liquid and water and wipe it down. You ll be surprised how quickly this will rejuvenate sickly looking plants! We each took one piece of the string and we were instructed to work together to try and transfer the rubber band onto the cups, to make a tower. That activity was highly amusing because it taught us how to work together. When Mrs. Cotter realized that we could not work together very well, she gave us another activity to do. She assigned us partners and she gave each pair of partners one piece of string. The pairs of partners were assigned to tie the string around themselves once, then she told us to untie it without letting go of each other s hand. That project was... • 12. Charles Darwin s Theory of Evolution by Natural Selection... Darwin collected and described thousands of animals and plants. In South America he observed the adaptations of organisms to a variety of habitat from jungle to grassland to mountain habitats. In the temperate regions the species resembled more closely the species of the tropical regions of South America rather than the corresponding speciesof the temperate regions of Europe. For example, in the grasslands of Argentina there are no rabbits, however, there are rodents that resemble rabbits; these rodents are unrelated to European rabbits but are similar to other rodents in South America. Moreover, the fossils in South America are dissimilar to European fossils but have similarities with extant (i.e. currently living) plants and animals... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Cuvier founded the science of paleontology and described the differences between the fossil flora and fauna in different strata of rock: he observed that the more recent strata had fossils that more closely resembled extant organisms. Cuvier believed that the discontinuities between fossils in different strata were brought about by catastrophes such as floods which caused the extinction of many species living at a particular time. This interpretation of earth s history is termed catastrophism and was also held by many contemporary geologists. By contrast, Hutton and subsequently Lyell held that geological processes are slow and subtle but that over prolonged periods of time (millions of years) these can lead to major changes; implicit in this viewpoint is an age for the earth radically different from the 6,000 years of the biblical creationists. Other key influences on Darwin were Malthus who had concluded that war and famine were inevitable as the human population grew more rapidly than available resources, and Lamarck who had proposed a theory of evolution based on a continuous process of gradual modification due to acquired characteristics. Both Darwin and Wallace brought together a multitude of facts including the geographical distribution of organisms, comparative morphology of living organisms and their fossil precursors. His translation of the Bible has helped to develop the correct version of the German language. Martin Luther was a great man. Martin Luther was born on the 10th of November, 1483 in Eisleben, Germany. Hans and Margaretha Luder were his parents. In 1501, he had been enrolled in the University of Erfurt at the age of seventeen. But all of that changed during a harsh thunderstorm where a lightning bolt struck near him on his way back to school. With terror he yelled these words, Help St. Anne! I ll become a monk! Since then, he dropped out of law school and started attending monastery there. He would devote himself only to things like fasts, long hour prayers, and constant confessions. He tried a lot to change this, but the more he tried to do this for God, it always seemed that he became more aware of his sinfulness. Martin Luther eventually ended up being good with God personally when his teacher, Johann von Staupitz, ordered that Luther needed more work to distract him from all his thoughts. So then Luther was ordained to the priesthood. So in the year of 1508, Martin Luther started to teach theology at the University of Wittenberg. The difficult time of study for academic degrees and preparation for the hard lectures drove Martin Luther to study the Scriptures very deep. Luther engaged ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Introduction Despite a recently enacted property law addressing badly needed reforms and a 12 year multi million dollar World Bank land titling project that is in its fifth year, progress in resolving land disputes in Honduras between the indigenous Garifuna peoples and a variety other parties remains where it has always been: at a virtual standstill. At the heart of the problem lies a reluctance of the Garifuna people to understand, accept, and participate in the land dispute resolution system. This paper examines the reasons why the Garifuna reject the current land dispute resolution system and provides practical solutions to the land dispute resolution process. These solutions are designed to incentivize Garifuna participation in the land dispute resolution system and get the system out of its current ineffectual state of gridlock. Today, we tell the story of how a British attack on Fort McHenry in the port of Baltimore led to The Star Spangled Banner, America s national anthem. In the summer of 1814, British forces attacked Washington, DC. They burned the Capitol building, the White House and other public buildings. Then they withdrew to their ships in the Chesapeake Bay. British General Robert Ross and Admiral George Cockburn led the attack on Washington. Next they planned to attack Baltimore. But the people of Baltimore expected the attack, and began to prepare for it. Fifty thousand of them built defenses around the city. The port of Baltimore was protected by Fort McHenry. The guns and cannon of the fort could prevent British ships from reaching the city. The British began with a land attack against Baltimore. General Ross, Admiral Cockburn and about 4,000 British soldiers landed at North Point, a finger of land reaching into the Chesapeake Bay. From North Point, it was a march of about 22 kilometers to Baltimore. The British began marching at about seven in the morning. General Ross and Admiral Cockburn stopped their men after an hour. The two commanders and several of their officers rode to a nearby farmhouse and forced the family living there to give them breakfast. When the British officers finished eating, the farmer asked General Ross ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. Juvenile And The Juvenile Justice System The Juvenile Justice System and our Law Enforcement Blair Klostermann Upper Iowa University The juvenile justice system is similar to the criminal justice system. This system is where juveniles are processed, and may be arrested after referrals for juvenile delinquency. Juvenile justice is very different in every state and can be very similar as well because every system has limited jurisdiction and that most focus on the offenders and not their offenses. Therefore, there are 51 juvenile justice systems in the United States. The United States has the juvenile justice system because children are very different than adults in that they can be better receptive for change and also being easier to rehabilitate. Moreover, the main goal of the juvenile justice system is rehabilitation (Juvenile Law Center). The juvenile justice system is made up of police, courts, corrections, probation and parole services, as well as community based programs to name a few (book). The juvenile justice system is always changing and developing new ideas. The first example of a change or development can be the status offense reform. The basis of this are they are trying to keep the non delinquent kids form the juvenile justice system. Some examples of status offenses are skipping school, or running away offenses that are not illegal for adults. These offenses can lead to possibly detention, which might do very little to rehabilitate or change the issues that juvenile has. How this can all change is to bring these troubled kids to community based services to make them learn that it is possible to change and become a better person. Some other examples of changes or developments in our juvenile justice system (that I won t go into detail about) are the quality of aftercare and how the system is trying to reduce racial ethnic discrepancies and making it fairer for everyone (models for change). Right now, we are going to focus on the changes and developments made to the juvenile justice system pertaining to law enforcement. Gender Roles And Gender Stereotypes In The Media Gender roles influence every characteristic and aspect of our life, from how we feel about ourselves to the degree of our contribution in social life. From a ripe young age, children become exposed to this type of gender bias right away, which can negatively affect and shape their whole outlook on life. Consequently, as these young boys and girls mature both physically and emotionally and move on into adulthood, they are, in essence, shoved into a world that impacts their attitudes and behaviors towards genderroles and stereotypes. These specific attitudes and behaviors first cultivate in the private doors of their parent s house. Afterwards, these same biases become reinforced by the child s peers, school experience (education), television viewing, and, of course, advertisements in the realm of print and television media. From the looks of it, it is near impossible, for children to not become subject to some degree of gender bias at an early age. As a child grows and develops, the stereotypes follow them into the next phases of their lives (i.e. adolescence) and then on into adulthood. Not only are these gender stereotypes destroying girls, they are also killing boys. The components of this essay will attempt to illustrate how advertising in print and television helps to perpetuate gender stereotypes in our world. Along with that, one must ask the question of how much harm these negative biases in gender roles truly affects the minds of men, women, and young children. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Around the time he wrote this poem in 1804 ???? He is wandering alone up hill and down dales and comes across a vision so beautiful that it is imprinted in his mind forever. Memories are what make us and without them we would not be able to manage. The image of that memory, is what makes this poem so lovely that you feel at peace at the tranquil setting when you read it. It is also clever that he uses the title of the poem as the 1st line in stanza 1. Language is figurative and the reader is left in no doubt what the poet is saying as the words seem to dance along fluttering, twinkle, tossing glee and bliss . You have the use of personification where daffodils are personified as a crowd of people, also as dancers and this continues throughout the poem. Where he mentions never ending this is an exaggeration as his eyes could only see a certain distance away. The use a metaphor is how he describes the memories he has when he mentions inward eye . Alliteration is also used for example, sparkling and sprightly as well as beneath and besides . Use of O er instead of Over is called Archiac i.e it is abbreviated. By this time, Chaplin, a vocally political anti fascist, had expressed his dislike for Germany?s Fuhrer and had been working on The Great Dictator since 1937 (Cole, 2001). Despite this, Chaplin was pressured ?either to render the images and message of his film inoffensive to Hitler and Mussolini, which meant eliminating any anti fascist propaganda element, or else to drop the project altogether? from the start of his work on the film (Cole, 2001). Until this point in time, the American cinema had ignored Hitler?s presence and actions, as propaganda films were still slightly looked down upon, due to their misuse during World War I (Cole, 2001). Perhaps another reason for Chaplin?s public dislike of Hitler, was that his wife at the time, Paulette Goddard, was herself Jewish (Brownlow Kloft, 2002). In the film itself, Chaplin shows many events that reflect the reality of late 1930?s Germany including most prominently the treatment of the Jewish people through representations of anti semitic graffiti and an event reminiscent of Kristallnacht. In the early scenes of the Jewish ghetto, the windows all have painted graffiti reading Jew (Sherman, 2002). If Jesus Christ Is Not God, And The Resurrection Never If Jesus Christ is not God, and the resurrection never happened, then the Christian Faith being lived out by billions of Christians scattered throughout the entire world, is complete vanity. Thus, one of the most popular arguments against the Deity of Christ stems from the idea that most of the biblical writers often referenced Jesusas both speaking to, and being sent (John 17:3) by the Father; furthermore, Jesus, while interacting with the apostles, often used language that expressed the idea that His God, was also their God (John 20:17). However, the real problem with Jesus identity emanates from data contained in the four gospels in which Jesus and His followers make strong assertions about His divinity and pre existence (Kreeft ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jesus Christ, during His earthly ministry, healed the sick (Matthew 8:5), cast out demons (Luke 4:33), raised the dead (Luke 8:41), fed the five thousand (Mark 6:30), walked on water (Matthew 14:26), and calmed a storm (Mark 4:37). Thus, Jesus performed miracles in order to establish that He was indeed incarnate of God, and in doing so, Jesus demonstrated power over the elements of nature, demons, sickness, and even death. However, many in Jesus time, were still not convinced of His deity. Therefore, Jesus instructed the apostles in John 10:38, to believe in the miracles as proof that the Father and Jesus were one (Yancey, 1997). Perhaps the best evidence concerning Jesus deity and the miracles today rests on the fact that neither Buddha, Confucius, Muhammed or other religious founders orchestrated miracles nor rose from the dead, only Christianity and Christianity s founder, Jesus Christ can stake those claims (Yancey, 1997). Further proof of Jesus deity centers directly on Jesus attributes. Hence, John 1:1 affirms the eternality of Christ with the verb was suggesting Jesus continuous existence in time past (Enns, 2014, p. 239). In Matthew 28:20, Jesus demonstrated omnipresence by promising the disciples that He would be always with them, and in John 4:18, Jesus demonstrated omniscience by exposing a Samaritan Woman s troubled history even though Christ had not met the woman previously (Enns, 20.14). They don t eat up one people s gardens, don t nest in corncribs, they don t do one thing but sing their hearts out for us. That s why it is a sin to kill a mockingbird. (Lee, 94) Boo Radley is like a mockingbird because everyone in the town links a horrible story to his name (story found in Chapter 1, pages 14 16). However, he didn t do anything harmful to anyone. At the end, he was the one who saved Jem and Scout from being attacked by Bob Ewell (event took place in ch. 28). Boo Radley is harmless and did good, like a mockingbird. Boo saving the kids is similar to the mockingbird s music. Next, Tom Robinson is like a mockingbird because he was helping Mayella Ewell with some chores. However, he was accused by the Ewell family of raping Mayella Ewell. Tom Robinson did NOT rape Mayella, but the Ewells were able to get away with the accusation because Tom Robinson was black and the Ewells were white. Bob Ewell, Mayella s father, was the one who beat Mayella and caused the bruises and marks on her body in which they used as proof of Tom beating and raping her. The Oxford English Dictionary defined it as intense and eager enjoyment, interest, or approval . However, in Mary Shelley s Frankenstein, we begin to doubt this positivity of enthusiasm, and question the daunting natures of extreme enthusiasm. As we track the word enthusiasm and its derivatives, there appear to be a trend in which the meanings develop; enthusiasm no longer only holds its popular definition. By following this word throughout the novel, we can see its deterioration as the plot progresses, as it s passed on to different characters, and as it s associated with different words. The first three appearances of enthusiasm are in Walton s letters to his sister. I feel my heart glow with an enthusiasm which elevates me to heaven, Walton says, for nothing contributes so much to tranquilize the mind as a steady purpose (6); being in the middle of nowhere among merciless ice and lifeless landscape, Walton s enthusiastic determination and clear purpose in his scientific endeavor is the life force that keeps him sane and strong. Just as the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) attempts to cut the supply of oil to raise its price, companies pass on those higher wages that have to be paid to the union members to consumers through higher prices, and often earn lower profits, as reported by James Sherk, What Unions Do: How Labor Unions Affect Jobs and the Economy.
