The notions of social class and equality have always played a pervasive role in the history of
America. Every individual living in the world aspires to gain social standing and civil rights in
their own respective communities. This idea is depicted by the phrases Blackness , Double

about consequences of the war and their experiences on their mental health. There haven t been any
studies that examined the complex relationships between psychological traumatic experiences and
depression among Vietnamese Americans. Studies on the mental health status of people after
traumatic experiences in war, Nazi concentration camps, and natural disasters found that traumatic
social and natural events are related to various forms of psychological problems among the victims
(Tran, 1993). Most refugees fled from Vietnam to the United Statesto get away from the horrifying

These days, a college degree serves as one of the few tickets into a socially and economically

My schooling gave me no training in seeing myself as an oppressor, as an unfairly advantaged
person, or as a participant in a damaged culture. I was taught to see myself as an individual whose
moral state depended on her individual moral will. My schooling followed the pattern my
