Waal (2008) predicts that there will be 2.93m cohabiting couples by 2021 (p. 47). This would be a
90% increase in the past 25 years. Cohabiting couples have become more common due to the
increase in social acceptance. An article in the New York Times (2012) contributes the increase to

Theory and Research Question The relation between cohabitation and divorce rates can also be
explained through the use of Deviance. Deviance is a theory in which a society views an action as
unacceptable (William and Thorton 2014). Cohabitation has transferred from being deviant to a
social norm in past years. Those who cohabit are no longer a minority. For this reason the Deviance
Theory is a possible explanation as to why there has been a shift in the relation between premarital
cohabitation and divorce rates. We question the relation between premarital cohabitation and
divorce. From looking at literature regarding this question I hypothesize that time and social change
determines cohabitation and divorce.
Methods. The qualitative method proposed for gathering data is a longitudinal cohort study.
Participants in the study include couples who have been married in the year 2015. The
participants will include 20 couples from each of the 50 states. 10 of the couples will have

liter size bottle, it was filled 70% with water, a nozzle diameter of 0.02 meters, a ballast weight

because during the runs where I was testing these variables, the altitude and velocity had significant

There exists a common phenomenon in my high school that whenever someone forgot to bring
his ruler and one of his classmates kindly lent him once, he would probably not bring his ruler

generous to someone, he will demand more. In other words, this saying points out that people are

light on a broader context in social science such as unemployment insurance policy. In order to
determine the validityof this aphorism in the society today, we could conduct an experiment
targeting the college students who are randomly assigned into two groups, and examine how they
would respond differently after they received a different endowment of money.

Socioeconomic Status And Quality Of Education
In an ideal world, socioeconomic status would not affect the quality of education one would
receive. Everyone would have the same opportunities to do well in life and rise up the social ladder.
Durkheim (1893) asserted that with universally great public education, economic opportunities

in the form of legitimate inequality (Durkheim 1893), but the excellent public education would
