Compare Modern Education In China With The Educational...
1.Compare modern education in China with the educational system prior to 1911. What are the key
similarities and differences between the two?
There have been a lot of educational reforms over the years in which it can be traced as far back
as far as the Shang Dynasty. Education is necessary as it lead to wealth and success, so it was and
still is important to the Chinese people, in the past and now. Which is a similarity, educationhas
always been valued by the people. There was a plan to reform to increase public education and
rebuild the society. In 1911, the difference was that the government was completely forsaken
towards the traditional way of education. Historically, there was a pattern to divide china and the
educational system between private and official, in which there was a purpose to train students to
be better.
2.Using Zhang Yimou s film Not One Less, identify challenges that a migrant from the country to
the city might encounter.
One challenge would be that since it is such a long journey and there isn t a lot of money for
transportation, it typically takes around a month for a migrant to go to the city. They need to
find someone to take care of their jobs or other needs that need to be taken care of while they are
gone. In the case of the video, the teacher had to find a young girl to teach the class while he was
gone. She was inexperienced and didn t have very many talents of her own.
Another challenge that they would have is that they would be very unfamiliar with the city
lifestyle. When the young girl reaches the city she looks to be intrigued with how much is going
on compared to what she had in her village. Also, everything in the city is more expensive for them
coming from poverty.
3.Identify three challenges faced by rural schools in China. Discuss three realistic ways that these
problems might be overcome.
There are a lot of challenges that students and teachers have to face in rural schools in China.
Teachers are very hard to find because a lot of them are not educated. Overtime this can be solved
as more children are going to school and are getting an education. Since education is very hard to
get, it can be very expensive. And unfortunately, the poverty rate is very

Essay about The Roman Military Reforms institued by Gaius...
The hypothesis of this report is that the military reforms instituted by Gaius Marius ultimately
paved the way for the fall of the Roman Republic. The reforms instituted by Marius were
designed as a way to strengthen the Republic by professionalizing the Roman military, but instead
resulted in long term political consequences that contributed to the decline of the Republic and
the creation of the Empire. In this report, the decline of the republic specifically refers to the loss
of the Senate s authority over Rome s generals. From 112 106 BC, a Numidian king called
Jurgurtha was engaged in a war with Rome due to an attempt to seize power from his half brother,
Adherbal. The Romans arrived due to the request of Adherbal, and the... Show more content on

As many of these new recruits did not fit in these categories, and were unable to provide their
own equipment, Marius arranged for the State to supply them with arms and armour. He then
offered the masses a permanent career as professional soldiers, and the opportunity to gain spoils
on the campaign. With little hope of gaining status in other ways, the masses flocked to join
Marius. The cause of this reform was largely due to recurring recruitment problems faced by the
Roman republic, as most soldiers were expected to return to their farms after long campaigns, but
since the campaigns were becoming increasingly longer due to the distance of the conflicts from
rome, the farms were left deserted and ruined do to prolonged absence of workers. As such, the
returning soldiers found themselves without property making them illegible for military service,
thus weakening the army. (William G. Sinnigen) As such, Marius believed these deficiencies in the
Roman army recruitment system needed urgent attention, and his solution was to offer those with
nothing the ability to have everything. Along with the new recruitment system, Marius also
improved and enhanced the military training by basing it upon those used and developed by
gladiators and also abolished the three different types of soldiers, each armed and positioned by
rank and experience, with cohorts of men universally armed and created the use of the eagle as the
standard for

The Greater Grand Forks Community Service And Restitution...
The Greater Grand Forks Community Service and Restitution Program is an essential resource to
the criminal justice community in the Grand Forks area. The mission statement of the CSRP
affirms that the program was designed in order to evaluate the risks and needs of the offender in
order to safely place offenders within Grand Forks and the surrounding communities to work
community service as not only a benefit to the public but to also provide offenders with an
opportunity to exhibit reparation and compensation for the crimes they have committed and act as
a deterrent to future criminal acts. The goal of this program is for the Grand Forks community to

The judgments received by this office provide details of what the client was charged with, how
many hours of community service was sentenced in lieu of jail time and how long the client has
to complete the set number of hours. If the offender was sentenced in District or Municipal court
the offender is responsible for making contact with the CSRP office within 48 hours of
sentencing. Upon, receiving a judgment and once the offender makes contact, the CSRP initiates
an interview to obtain information about the offenders criminal history and other relevant
information needed in order to assess the risks and needs of the offender. All of the information
acquired at this interview is then inputted into a database and used for monitoring purposes and
work site placement. The CSRP maintains a list of appropriate community service work site
options that include the phone number, address, hours of operation and contact names for work
site supervisors. Each client receives several different work site options and is provided with their
required deadline dates upon placement. It is up to the client as to whether they wish to work at
one or all of the options provided to them. The sites the CSRP works with take only certain

The Importance Of A New Land Unspoken Language
As stated earlier knowing the local market is important. Mr. Gaffney was quoted saying If the
local issues can t be solved we won t do business there. Since shareholder s approval is important
he said, If we can t meet shareholder expectations we won t get involved . The reason Mr.
Gaffney learned that communication is important was not only due to involvement with coworkers
but with the language barriers as well. When deciding to enter a new land unspoken language won
t make business very profitable in the new land. This reasoning is when he believed that having
skilled local workers is key when working in a foreign country. You need that individuals that can
understand the rules and regulations of the host country as well as adopt the methods of the
business entering the foreign country. An example that he used was how South America doesn t
have a market in trains. If they were to inter that market they would send teams to work with the
locals to develop new technology that would benefit the region and bring about profit. South
America might not have much of a railroad market but other countries do. Competition is an
important development that BT keeps track of. It was stated saying that you always have to adapt
your business model based on competition. We then closed out the interview with one major
questions. We asked about any advice that he could give a college graduate about how to perform
well in international business. His response was something that he felt as

Tissue Ownership Essay
Morgan Boudreaux
Mrs. Romero
English II, 3rd Block
23 September, 2013
Tissue Ownership I think people are morally obligated to allow their bits and pieces to be used to
advance knowledge to help others (Korn). Different people have opposing opinions on the topic of
whether or not patients or doctors own the body tissues after it s been removed from the patient.
Ownership is the act, state, or right of possessing something. Tissue ownership is different from
ownership because once it leaves your body, you no longer own it. Contributing your tissues to the
science world is superior because you can speed up medical advances, avoid litigation, and become
a better individual by contributing to science and society. One of the most ... Show more content on

Eventually, Moore hired a lawyer, who discovered that Golde had used Moore s Spleen to
develop a valuable immortal cell line named Mo. Moore filed a lawsuit, claiming that his bodily
tissues were his own property, and that Golde had stolen them. A series of rulings and appeals
about his case launched an intense national debate. Golde won because he s the one who made
the cells valuable. He did all of the work. This situation relates to this debate because if the
doctor s would have had ownership over the tissues in the first place, none of this would not
have happened. This also proves that the law is on the doctor s side. If doctors had ownership of
the tissues and the right to do whatever they wanted to them, they would not have to go through
all this trouble. Lastly, you can become a better person by contributing to science and society.
Since everybody benefits, everybody can accept the small risks of having their tissue scraps
used in research (Korn). Basically, donating your cells to science in order to help millions of
people is morally the right thing to do. This is also a respectable thing to do. People should take
pride in knowing that they have saved other peoples lives. It s not as if scientists are stealing
your arm or some vital organ. They are using tissue scraps you parted with voluntarily (Skloot). It
s not like they are taking a major part of your body away, it s something that you don t even need.

Testing is Overrated Essay
Students dread the time of the year when they stop with their course material and begin to prepare
for test. Everyone is in agreement that some type of revolution is needed when it comes to
education; eliminating standardized test will aid the reform. The need for standardized testing has
proven to be ineffective and outdated; some leading educationalist also believe this because the
tests do not measure a student s true potential. This will save money, stop labeling, and alleviate
stress in students and teachers.
Now more than ever, money is scarce and one way to increase this money supply is by the
elimination of standardized testing. The cost for standardized testing in 2nd graders is roughly
estimated to be between $2 $4 million, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These tests tend to cause the student s too much stress and puts pressure on them to obtain a certain
score on these test that are required on a yearly basis. Teachers also set aside too much time to teach
strategies for taking the test and lecturing on how to eliminate some choices. According to Kathy
Frandle this is A huge waste of instruction time (Fridy). Furthermore, the unneeded stress generally
leads to a state of anxiety and it is setting too many of them up for devastating failure and,
consequently, lowered self esteem (Perrone).
Each state teaches their students different material at different rates and this is why some states
place pressure of testing companies to dumb down the test (Margie). Each state s tests are created
by the state; therefore, they can make the test as easy as possible to make everyone succeed on it.
Some states have districts in poverty and cannot afford the best textbooks or technologies;
therefore, their students do not reach their potential. When these districts have scores that are too
low they do not receive federal grants; therefore, this puts them into a further bind.
Standardized testing does not occur at the college level where someone might assume that it would
be mandated. When someone is taking a test to enter a college, wouldn t it be logical for a

Mayall s Object (Arp 148)
Mayall s object (also known as Arp 148) is the stunning result of an encounter between two
galaxies resulting in a ring shaped galaxy and a long tailed companion, located almost 465 million
light years away within the constellation Ursa Major. The pair extends across 80 thousand light
years.
The collision between the two parent galaxies produced a shockwave effect that first drew matter
into the center and then caused it to propagate outwards in a ring. The elongated companion
perpendicular to the ring suggests that Arp 148 offers a unique view of a collision in progress.
What probably has been the core of the target galaxy can be seen as a small yellow area at 5 o clock
inside the newly formed ring. Massive star formation dominates the ring. Infrared observations also

Just as throwing a stone into a pond creates an outwardly moving circular wave, a gravitational
density wave is generated at the point of impact throwing matter out into a ring shape. Most
Collisional Ring galaxies manage to hold onto a nucleus in the centre of the ring but sometimes
the disturbance is so large that the nucleus is completely destroyed. Thanks to the work of Zoo
members I have so far found about 125 Collisional Rings in the Galaxy Zoo (and still searching...!)
so we can safely say that Collisional Rings are quite a rare phenomenon.
It is incredibly rare to see the galaxy collision actually taking place so my Ring of the Week this

Evil In The Consolation Of Philosophy By Boethius
When I think of the concept of evil, I think of The Consolation of Philosophy by Boethius. In The
Consolation of Philosophy, Lady Philosophy stated:
It is enough to have understood only that God, the Creator of all things in nature, also governs all
things, directing them to good. And, since He carefully preserves everything which He made in his
own likeness, He excludes by fatal necessity all evil from the bounds of his state. Therefore, if you
fix your attention to Providence as the governor of all things, you will find that the evil which is
thought to abound in the world is really nonexistent. Book 4; Prose 6
Lady Philosophy is stating that evil does not actually exist, and God would not create evil because
it is unnatural. Rather, evil people seek happiness in misguided ways. Therefore, evil is actually
confusion. This ties well with Descartes explanation of why we error. Descartes states that humans
make mistakes because we exist between God and nothingness. We have the ability to make
mistakes because we are not perfect like God, we participate in nothingness, and use our free will.
This could be used to argue for the why there is evil. God did not create evilness, and humans do
not seek to be evil. We perceive people to be evil because... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Many of the choices we make, using our free will, lead to suffering. We participate in risky
behavior, without thinking of the consequences. For example, people that smoke have greater
chances of developing health problem (e.g., cancer), which results in pain and suffering. This type
of suffering is caused by our errors and mistakes. Many of the choice we make have consequences,
but is it is impossible to live in a way in which we do not take risks. Furthermore, God s existence
comes from intellect and not the sense, but suffering is felt through through our senses, whether it
be external or internal pain. Suffering is adventitious and not

possession, be sure to try and take them from them or talk them into not driving or getting a taxi

Holistic Case Studies
The patient in this particular case study is an adult man of 45 years with Down syndrome and a
moderate intellectual disability. This man also has a chronic illness, which is type 2 diabetes.
This man lives in a community group home that is staffed by support workers and he attends a
disability specific day program Monday to Friday. This case study will be reviewed from the
point of view of the community nurse managing the holistic case needs of this particular patient.
Holistic needs involve a number of different considerations, and must include an overall
understanding of the patient s medical needs, as well as his physical and emotional needs. The
goal as the nurse will be to develop a holistic care plan, including an analysis of the health
challenges of this individual, an analysis of activity and participation using the ICF model, and an
overall recommendation for an intervention strategy for the patient. The intervention strategy will
include consideration of all the different aspects of this individual s difficulties and disabilities.

The Lehman Brothers scandal is what many consider to be the catalyst that started the financial
meltdown of 2008. This paper is meant to look at what took place during the start of the
meltdown and what caused Lehman to fail. Who was involved? What caused one of the largest
banking institutions in history to fail? What could have been done differently? These are a few of
the questions I d like to address in the next few pages. In the Fall of 2008 things were starting to
look bad for Lehman Brothers. Much of their investments were in the housing market which was
beginning to fall, and fall hard. On Friday September 12, Hank Paulson the US Treasury Secretary

Fulds goals were essentially to overtake rivals like Goldman or Merrill who had been in the

Dick Fulds was appointed CEO, Lehman shares were valued at $4/share, by 2007 at Lehman s
peak, shares were valued at a staggering $84/share. This massive growth was primarily attributed to
Lehman s expansion into other more complex investments, including credit default swaps. As
defined by Investopedia, A credit default swapis a particular type of swap designed to transfer the
credit exposure of fixed income products between two or more parties. In a credit default swap,
the buyer of the swap makes payments to the swap s seller up until the maturity date of a contract.
In return, the seller agrees that, in the event that the debt issuer defaults or experiences another
credit event, the seller will pay the buyer the security s premium as well all interest payments that
would have been paid between that time and the security s maturity date. At the time this was seen
as a normal practice, but firms began to speculate with these swaps and this is what ultimately
caused many large financial firms like AIG to collapse. Risk was the name of the game and was
how Lehman began to operate under Fuld. It was believed that the firms creating these complicated
risky investments were distributing risk wide

I have a full Japanese first name, and I go by a shortened, Americanized version. My first name
means nothing in Japanese, and it s old fashioned, like Barbara or Margaret or Greta. Fashionable
for a decade or so, and now painfully outdated. My middle name is Hawai ian and is a suffix
attached to the names of female royalty, and it means heaven or sky.
I am 100% full blooded Japanese. Allegedly my father s side of the family is descended from

half royalty half peasant, because it sounds romantic but not because there s any basis in truth. I

Paraguayans do not have many historical happy times in their past. Their history leading up to
Operation Condor involves three men that led the country to a government based on military

Vikash Pathak And George W Bush s Themes Of Unity
Unity JK Rowling once said, We are only as strong as we are united, as weak as we are divided .
This quote is stating that unity is needed for a country in tough times. Unity is what holds our
country and society together. In George W. Bush s Address to the Nation, he is trying to keep his
country unified after the 9/11 terrorist attack. He had to inspire and insure his country that the
government and the military were supporting them. Vikash Pathak gave the speech Important India,
this speech was given to show the significance of sticking together as a country and as a society.
The speech Important India by Vikash Pathak and George W Bush s address to the Nation both
reflect a similar theme of Unity. Bush s Address to the Nation portrays the message of standing
together throughout a tough situation, unifying that, Pathak s essay communicates that without
unity, a society will fail. George W Bush s Address to the Nation after 9/11 showed the need for
unity, and it was needed to keep the United Statesof America strong in this tough situation. 9/11
was a tragic terrorist attack made on the United States of America in 2001, this event shocked the
nation and the world. President Bush made this Address to the Nation with the intent of unifying
all citizens. Bush stated, This is a day when all Americans from every walk of life unite in our

Coca Cola is an organization that has been around since 1892. Coca Cola is looking for new

Sales in the United States are declining due to the public concern over sugar. Sales in Europe and
Japan are flat, while markets in China and India offer up strong completion for Coca Cola. Africa
s middle class population is growing at a steady rate, so the disposable income is increasing. This
creates an opportunity for Coca Cola to tap into growth opportunities (Natalia Cheverri 2012).
How does it work?
Although there are areas in Africa lacking infrastructure, Coca Cola operates in every country. Coca
Cola utilized a franchising manufacturing model that works perfectly for operating in Africa. Coca
Cola partnered with local licensed bottling groups to help create the product. Coca Cola
manufactures the syrup concentrate and sells to the bottlers. The bottlers add filtered water,
carbonation, and sweetener to make the final product. With this model, Coca Cola is sharing the
wealth with local investors/community members. This creates sustainable business and improves
community buy in with Coca Cola s existence in Africa (Maritz Jaco 2010). Because partnerships
are formed with local bottlers and local members of the community, there is a vested interest by
the locals to keep Coca Cola s business successful. Through these partnerships, Coca Cola is able to
help build the socio economic system in different towns.

Canadian Society Vs Collectivist Society
Canada is more of an collectivist society than an individualist society. Within a collectivist society
a group s interest is above an individual s self interest. These set of principles are focused on
providing programs and public services to help the community, the programs and services are
usually provided by the government which are paid with by the taxpayers money.
A program that benefits all individuals within the Canadian society, could be the universal
healthcare. Which helps provides health care insurance to all Canadian citizens, no matter the
income, race, gender, or standard of living. This program is accessible to all Canadian citizens
because it is paid by taxes, unlike our close neighbor the United States. In the United States

How Did The Watergate Scandal
Across the planet earth, there are some 196 sovereign countries that each have their own
independent ways of ruling the people of their land. Whether it be a monarch, a dictator, or a
president, no one in the world beckons such a large power as the President of the United States.
This man or woman is in charge of one of the most powerful countries in the world, and that person
makes vital decisions daily that could change the fate of their nation they lead so graciously.
Through 44 presidents, the United States has seen its share of wars, problems, fights, and scandals.
Whether international, continental, or national, these 44 men have gotten through the toughest of
times to lead the nation toward prosperous times and even more prosperous futures. One of these
presidents, though, has caused what has come to be known as one of the biggest scandals to ever
rock a presidency to its core. Richard Nixonwas an adored man, but when he got caught trying to

Archibald Cox, the leading prosecutor in the case, was in charge of getting everyone that was
involved in the Watergate scandalindicted for their actions (Exhibit 3). Cox was hard on the trail
of Nixon and his involvement during the case, but in late 1973 things changed for the prosecution
of the criminals. Nixon wanted his attorney general to get Cox fired, but many people stepped
down rather than get Cox fired (Flanagan 7). After going through many people, President Nixon
ordered his acting attorney general, Robert Bork, to step up to the plate and attempt to get
Archibald Cox fired (Watergate 5). As the year drew to an end, Bork succeeded and Archibald Cox
stepped down from his position as main prosecutor (Watergate 5). This delayed the case and the
indictment of Nixon, but nothing could stop the case permanently from going after the

My Most Memorable Moment
Fencing is , in technical terms , the sport of fighting with rapiers (swords) in order to score points
against an opponent, to me, it s simply the art of sword fighting. My most memorable moment
happened to me, during my junior year in high school ( when I was still fencing in my free time ).
I and some of my fencingclass entered a tournament called The Golden Gate International which
took place in the gym of a State University. I still remember when my dad and I finally got to the
gym, I was ecstatic, from the outside the gym looked more like a convention center. The
tournament took place on the indoor basketball court ( which got divided into several sections
for multiple matches ) was massive, almost twice the size of my high school gym. There were rows
of seats on both side of the gym, and even stairs and a elevator that led to a balcony like, second
floor where you could get a bird s eye view of the whole gym.
I had six matches that day, and surprising the match where I lost is the not the most memorable.
My most memorable match took place around 3 hours into the tournament, mainly because of the
experience with the referee. The first thing I noticed was that the referee looked like he was
completely pulled from the crowd, almost like someone s father. Still, he seems rather confident
and has the tough look of an ex military guy, so I m appropriately intimidated. The First touch was
a parry riposte or a stalemate with two hits on both sides leaving the round up to

Essay about Democratic Republic of Congo Holocaust
The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) Holocaust was the bloodiest war fought. This was
due to the death toll, possibly larger than that of the Holocaust. Between 1998 and 2007, there
were a total of 5.4 million people dead. The number of those deaths has definitely gone up over
the years (Heaton 1). Genocide is very vital because of the people being slaughtered and giving
their lives away in order to support their political stance. Everyone, whether it is through war or
poverty, suffers from this immense tragedy. I was interested in the topic due to the little bit of
research I did. Through the research, I found out it was still going on today. I was taken aback by
the fact this has been going on for so long and there is so little effort... Show more content on

The deaths in this war are terrifyingly close to those in the Holocaust (Heaton 1). The massive
death toll would include that of the Rwanda Holocaust and the Congo Holocaust. These deaths
include murder, suicides, starvation, poverty, and disease. The political aspect of this situation
is the government killing off rebels and targeting specific groups such as Hutu s, Tutsi s, and the
DRC. They target people to rile up a dispute, start the war, and gain allies (World without
Genocide 2). Many people are dying whether due to poverty, indirectly, or political stance,
directly. The people suffering from the poverty aspect are getting the effects of the mass murders
and the country s political instability. Genocide describes the heinous act of killing others in order
to prove the point. In this case, Rwanda s government is targeting specific people. The Congo
War, a massive destruction to their country, is genocide. One reason it is, in fact, genocide is due
to the amount of murders occurring. But so far the brutal war in eastern Congo has not only lasted
longer than the Holocaust but also appears to have claimed more lives [than the Holocaust],
(Kristof 1). This shows that although unpopular and unknown to most, the Congo War devastates
further than what it seems like at first. The everyday struggle people go through to stay alive is
relative, bloodier, and more

The Accomplishments Of The Whitney Houston
As I lay me down, heaven hear me now. I m lost without a cause, after giving it
my all. Winter storms have come, and darkened my sun. After all that I ve been through,
who on earth can I turn to? I look to you, quoted from the song I Look to You by
Whitney Houston. Whitney Houston came out with this song after she got out of rehab,
making it seem like it was her recovery song or letting her world of fans know she was
back. Everyone always has a rough patch in life whether they want to or not, even
celebrities. Whitney also called Nippy was born on August 9, 1963 in Newark, New
Jersey. Whitney is an American recording artist, actress, and former fashion model.
Whitney began singing in her church choir wanting nothing more than to become a
backup singer like her mother. But by the time she was eleven, she refused to be in the
background any longer and desired to take center stage one evening to sing a solo. This
was only the beginning of Whitney s classic life into stardom. This essay should prove
that anyone can make mistakes and still be remembered as great. People should know
that she made mistakes but she took her mistakes and made it her testimony.

American Culture Vs Canada Culture
Canada s culture is in many ways very similar to culture in the United States. This in part due to the
proximity the two countries are to one another. However, despite their similarities, there are some
very distinct differences. Many Americans have several misconceptions about the large country to
the north, which are largely out of ignorance and lack of insight. Thus, it is important to understand
that Canadahas its own unique history, characteristics, holidays and demographics.
The name Canada is derived from the word Kanata which translates to Village in the Iroquois
language. The country of Canada is so large it surpasses the United States in size in terms of land
mass, even when Alaska and Hawaii are included (Drozdow, n.d.). Canadas large land mass consists
of ten Provinces and three Territories, with its Capital City of Ottawa sitting in the Province of
Ontario (Jasuja, Sehgal, Gartman July 2017). Canada is a geographically vast country that has
enormous regional differences that include climate, population, language, and culture (Drozdow,
n.d.). The population of Canada is over 35 Million, while the population of the United States is over
321 million. Both countries religious majority is approximately Seventy percent Christian (Jasuja,
Sehgal, Gartman July 2017).
Canada even has a similar monetary system to the U.S. One Canadian Dollar is equal to eighty
American cents. One striking difference to the monetary system was when Canada stopped minting

Persuasive Essay On Attending High School
The next chapter in many people s lives is moving away from their hometown and attending college.
What people don t yet understand is the major differences between college and high school. Another
idea that is not thought of, are they prepared to handle the difficulties and challenges that go forth
in earning their desired degree? Attending collegeis only for people who are willing to take on this
challenge.
In high school, it is illegal to be truant and classroom attendance is required to graduate so, the
only responsibility that a student has is to arrive at school on time. Since attendance is required, it
is easy to get into a routine that stays constant over four years. All that is needed is to show up to
the first class of the day and all classes are set up for the rest of the day. In class, teachers usually
hand out assignments regularly and tell their students the due dates of each assignment. Some
teachers even go ahead and have any assignments that are due posted in their classroom to remind
students every day. The only responsibility that the high school student has is to look at the white
board and remind themselves that they might have an assignment to do that night at home. Once
they go home after a day at school, students will have the help of their parents or guardians to ask if
they have homework that night. Parents are an enormous help when it comes to high school.
Students have the responsibility from their parents to help them be reminded constantly of
upcoming events and due dates.
The work load that also comes from high school is, what most would call, minimal compared to
a college setting. Classes in high school are a year long term and each section of each course is
drawn out. For example, a class could take two weeks to complete one chapter. This allows
teachers to explain the material in detail and give out worksheets that contain small portions of
one chapter. Most of these worksheets can be completed in class allowing students to not have any
work outside of the class room. What this creates is a workload that is very simple to maintain and
allow students to worry less about working at home.
In most college classrooms, the instructor does not take attendance. Their mindset is that

1943. I Walked with a Zombie, is a tale told in a suspenseful style which incorporates the usage of
light and shadow instead of many special effects to portray a scary, compelling, and engaging story.

At the same time, the outbreak of the Second World War threatened to devastate Hollywood s
vital overseas trade. The studios exports to the Axis nations (Germany, Italy, and Japan) declined
to almost nothing in 1937 38, but still Hollywood borrowed roughly one third of its total
revenues from overseas markets. The primary oversees client was Europe, which supplied about
75 percent if the studio s foreign income in 1939. However, the European markets were severely
disrupted by the outbreak of war in September 1939 and continued to decline as fighting
continued in Europe. The war in Europe resulted in the US government to initiate a massive
military and defense buildup, which had tremendous effects on the movie industry. Hollywood
played it safe by producing a few war related features in 1940, however, focused mostly on
newsreels and documentary shorts of the war. Hollywood, in order to increase demand on top

adopt major independent productions was RKO. RKO had over a dozen independent unit

Electronic Computers And Their Components
Electronic computers and their components are very complicated pieces of hardware and would be
impossible to completely explain every single intricacy in one essay. Although complicated they
can be explained but only one piece of hardware at a time so the best option to start would be
explaining the unit that has its hand in everything in a computerand that is known as the Central
Processing Unitalso known as CPU. In a modern computer are 6 main components that are
required for a computer to work. These components are the Motherboard, Central Processing Unit
(CPU), Graphics Processing Unit (GPU), Random Access Memory (RAM), Hard Disk Drive
(HDD) or Solid State Drive (SSD), and the Power Supply Unit (PSU). The motherboard acts as a
highway for every component to interact with each other. The CPU processes data and
determines what to do with it. Everything done on a computer will have to travel through the
CPU at some point as the CPU acts as traffic control on the highway. The GPU is in charge of
processing everything visual or different mathematical assets such as Floating Point Operations
and many more. Everything you see on the screen was processed by the GPU. RAM is
temporary memory to be used by the CPU when the computer is powered on. Open programs
any other software store its memory in the RAM while they are being used. RAM is used because
it is much faster than using an HDD or SSD. In some cases when the CPU and GPU are combined
on the same silicon die they

Design Documentation On Web Based Information Systems Essay
Heraldry is one of the art professions studies that entail creation, granting and arms blazoning. This
is a protocol that questions rules of ranking and it is executed by an officer of arms. The word
Blazon entails description and use of formal heraldry language that necessitates comprehension
when governing word order blazoning over complex coat of arms(Louda Maclagan, 1999: 20 23).
The main purpose of this case scenario is to create a Heraldryapplication as well as system
documentation that will help the company to keep track Blazon armorial Records and allowing
them to be searched online.
1.1.2.Stakeholders analysis As far as Heraldry is taken into account, it is good to note that
heraldry has its predecessors that accounts to stakeholders. In this aspect, the stakeholder s analysis
can be taken based on the various conjectures and in relation to heraldic arms. However, design
documentation on web based information systems will be highly articulated based on the Heraldry
E R design and analysis, relationship management methodology that defines entities. To some
extend the documentation will further analyse definition based on how resources on web will be
accessed, used and who will be updating and maintains the system attributes. As the fate of
stakeholders is taken into consideration, E R analysis leads to a scenario analysis that identifies the
potential users, the web resources needed and these resources are used by the users. It is good to

The First Human Organ Transplant
In December of 1954, the first human organ transplant was performed in the United States between
identical twin brothers. In the past sixty years, organ transplantation has become the gold standard
in the treatment of organ failure from a number of underlying causes with dramatic improvements
to recipients health and quality of life (Kaserman, 2007). From the first kidney transplant in 1954
to the late 1980 s, one of the biggest advancements was the use of cadaver organs. Organ rejection
was the primary concern from the transplant team who knew that the use of cadaver organs posed
higher risks of failure.
The successful use of cadaver organs was made possible by the development of
immunosuppressive drugs like cyclosporine. The practice of utilizing immunosuppressive drugs
has led to a decrease of transplant failure rejection of a new organ by the recipient s own immune
system (Kaserman, 2007). As research continues to look for new ways to decrease organ rejection
rates, the majority of recipients take immunosuppressive drugs and will need to do so indefinitely
(Ehlers, 2002). Kaserman states that as the transplant industry grew, a need for guidelines became
apparent and hence requested that Congress create a governing body (2007). In response, the
United States government created the current system in 1984 which has been revised several times.
The system is governed by the National Organ Transplant Act. NOTA is based off the ethical ideal

The de emphasis of the returning 3 as a passing tone from 4 to 2 lends importance to the
incomplete upper neighbor A, supported by IV. This self contained tonal area stretches over
half of the Preludio. A reprise of an opening passage at the initiation of the A prolongation
gestures its independence from its surrounding, indeed a smaller organism enveloped within the
larger animal. This is evident through the internal auxiliary cadence to A that accompanies the
tonal area IV. In retrospect, the IV is already a long term goal from the beginning. The first 58
measures properly set the stage for the emergence of IV. The first step on the path to IV is the
movement to VI as a short term goal. This is done by first moving to G# (m.39) through F#
(m.37), creating a third progression E F# G# in the process. The G# is employed first in the top
voice as primary tone and then in the bass as pedal point, also the fifth to the incoming C#
(m.51) [FIG 4. EX. 1]. The C#, in a sense, is a midway stopping point from E major on its way to
A major. A# in measure 53 leads to B, creating yet another third progression G# A# B. The B is
to be read not as V of E but as II of A, unfolding to tonic through two consecutive fifths B E A
[EX.2]. As we shall see, the contour of the bass forecasts what is to come; additionally this prelude
within the Preludio presents the material for further elaboration and development.
Now firmly in A, a memorable passage

The 50s ad has a more homely domestic sort of feel because of how the man and woman in the
ad are dressed. The man is wearing a suit which gives a professional and a more sophisticated
look, also the gender representation shows to look like the common/respectable/perfect man
back in the 50s you have to wear a suit with a clean shaven face and short neat hair. Also the
woman in the ad has a more domestic look with neat hair and also her make up is more motherly
and gives a more traditional, albeit outdated representation of her gender. Representations of
gender in the Joop advert, although fully of sexual imagery and subverting the stereotype of pink

The male is still shown as the aggressor and in charge. He is now a man who is more confident in
his masculinity and is more unshaven than the 1950s representation of men. This suggests that the

representation of a man wanting to be in control. It could also be argued that it also responds to the
need for attention. The representation of gender is shown in a way that men are more dominant
and powerful. It is the same as the representations of the 1950s but this time it uses sex to

Response to The Bulgarian Borderland by L. Melishkevich SUMMARY Main Claim of Paper:
Religious divisions in Madan (and other Bulgarian towns in the Rhodope region) are produced by a
religious borderland in which individuals grapple with ideological conflict and tension,
characterized by Eastern vs. Western influences. Support: Factual information and quotes from
Muslim Lives in Eastern Europe; Supportive information (for comparisons) from other books

combination of its large Muslim populations and the collapse of GORUBSO, the paper builds off
past discussions of borderland (with Where the World Ended and Consecution and Social Change)
to argue that a religious borderland is responsible for divisions in the Bulgarian Muslim population.

Famous Places #24
In the Arthurian Legend, there are four main places that played key roles in King Arthur s majestic
life. The famous places that are linked to King Arthur s life are the Tintagel Castle, Battle of Mt.
Badon, Battle of Camlann, and Glastonbury. These four places are important because they show
where King Arthur started in his life and where he ended his life. There are also many sources that

Glastonbury is a small rural town located in Somerset, England. However, before this became a
town, Glastonbury was almost an island with wetlands surrounding it. Over the years it has
been said that King Arthur was buried here and finished his life at Glastonbury. Since
Glastonbury was very close to being a small island at once, it is highly possible and most likely
that a boat brought King Arthur to Glastonbury where possible medical attention was available
after being severely wounded from his nephew in the Battle of Camlann. After dying from his
wounds, Arthur was said to be buried on the south side of the cemetery, right in the middle of
two large stone pyramids. Eventually, a man named Henry II, the King of England at that time
had information about the cemetery and asked the Abbot to dig within the site of the cemetery .
Around 1191, a large wooden coffin was discovered and right beneath the coffin, a white lead

it would say Here lies King Arthur buried in Avalon. In the coffin two intact bodies were found

Love in Poetry Essay
Love in Poetry
The course of true love never did run smoothly, (William
Shakespeare.) How far do you think the three poems you have read conform to this view?
Throughout history love has been a favoured theme with many poets in their writing. Carol Ann
Duffy, (born 1958) tackles the issue of lovein her poem Valentine, as does Percy Bysshe Shelly
(1792 1822) in the poem Love s Philosophy, and finally Robert Burns (1759 1796) considers the
topic in A Red Red Rose. As different poets throughout history have written about the topic it is not
surprising that all three contain different and contrasting messages and viewpoints. It is clear that
with the passage of time, views have become more pessimistic or some may say ... Show more

These aspects contribute to the poem giving an overall impression that love is everlasting and also
holds the world together in a unifying way.
These previous images also enforce Burns message that love lasts, survives and can be relied on.
Burns suggests love will last till a the seas gang dry. This is physically impossible and through this
Burns is suggesting that love is so powerful that it can defy the laws of physics. Through this
Burns also implies that love can surmount boundaries of space and time, the seas gang dry . This
finally enforces that love is an enduring power and will never fade.
The title A Red Red Rose further implements Burns messages that the course of true love does
run smoothly. The red rose is a typical symbol of love and therefore Burns is suggesting, perhaps
naively, that love is a clear and simple path to follow in life. The title also suggests that Burns
feels love should be celebrated and life should be lived to the full. The title also alerts the reader to
the fact that Burns is addressing the traditional aspects of love.
The poem has a regular structure throughout and strong rhyme. Burns has written the poem in this
way in an attempt to portray love as a strong force, which can be depended on. Burns has also
included alternate line rhyme throughout the poem. This

Analysis Of The Movie Hot Seat
A former hacker is trapped in his office with his chair wired to explode if he stands up and in
order to survive he must hack his way into a computer mainframe to open a vault for an unseen
assailant.
STORY COMMENTS
HOT SEAT is a well written thriller that fully engages the audience. It s the type of script in
which one feels as if they are watching the film. The plot is similar to the concepts used in SPEED
and in the film PHONE BOOTH.
In this story, the protagonist finds himself trapped in his office and forced to remain seated in a
chair wired by a bomb. If he stands up, the bomb goes off. The hero is forced to hack his way into
a complicated mainframe to open a vault for a mysterious assailant. To raise the stakes, his family is

He s proactive with trying and failing. There s a nice twist with the reveal of the perpetrator and a
nice climax at the end except for the perpetrator strapping a bomb vest on an 8 year old. This could
be highly disturbing to the audience. Even though the idea of the other right is skillfully set up,
there s a taboo about exploiting children and seeing an explosive vest on a child could dissuade a
producer.
With that said there are other areas worth discussing for possible revisions. However, even without
these possible revisions, the script feels marketable.
The first area worth discussing is the opening scene in central park and the hot dog cart. It s
creative and interesting choice, but highly unrealistic. When first read, one was not sure of the
tone, especially with the description of processed guts and yumminess. A more realistic scene
doesn t involve a hot dog cart, but simply people strolling in the park, and perhaps some teens or
a homeless person find something like a box and it s a bomb. The idea of the bomber going to the
trouble of getting a hot dog cart is more for dramatic purposes than realistic.
The scene between Jackson and Wally on page 2 isn t the most engaging i.e. their dialogue. What
works is the subtext about Life is chess. You better have a plan A, B, and C, or game over. On
page 28, again, their dialogue doesn t fully engage.
On page 3, a frantic officer tells them that there s an explosion in central park, and then on page 28,

The Japanese are an ancient people whose history dates before Common Era, and may date
farther back than we can possibly know. Their history is full of civil wars, invasions, and
conquering other nations, so it was essentially a war fueled country. Yet one should not think of
the Japanese people as barbaric warriors who only fought for fun, as they fought for survival. The
Island of Japan does not have a lot of natural resources, so the Japanese took to warfare to feed
their families and support their country. Now Japan has evolved into one of the most advanced
countries around, with a life expectancy at 83!these facts on Japan were found on the website of

This type of physical environment is a particularly healthy one with people being exposed to
trees and fresh air blowing in from the sea rather than the smog staying overhead like some
gloomy cloud that we are accustomed too in Southern California. Since most of the country is
covered by mountains it is extremely hard to farm, so people took to the sea to find food, and
with that Japan had created a food so unique it is still eaten today and that is sushi. Sushi became
such a popular food due to the idea of its freshness, meaning that the fish is still fresh since it is
served raw to you, and as Americans we tend to associate freshness with healthiness. With this
idea of having a healthy body the Japanese are one of the healthiest countries as Benjamin H
Senauer in his writings of Why Is the Obesity Rate So Low in Japan and High in the U.S.? Some
Possible Economic Explanations Only 3.6 percent of Japanese have a body mass index (BMI)
over 30, which is the international standard for obesity, whereas 32.0 percent of Americans do. A
total of 66.5 percent of Americans have a BMI over 25, making them overweight, but only 24.7
percent of Japanese. This has to deal with the fact that Japanese children walk or take other modes
of physical transportation places, for example; bikes, skateboards, roller skates, or just simply
running. These types of healthy habits are kept throughout adulthood and are

Analysis of The Waste Land by T. S. Eliot
If RenГ© Descartes Cogito Ergo Sum embodies the essence of what it means to be a unified and
rational Cartesian subject, then T.S. Eliot s heap of broken images eagerly embraces its fragmented
and alienated (post)modern counterpart. The message this phrase bears, resonates throughout the
entire poem: from its title, The Waste Land, to its final mantra Shantih shantih shantih . All words,
phrases and sentences (or just simply images) which make up this poem seem to, in Levi Strauss
words, be a valeur symbolique zero [and the signifier] can take on any value required , meaning
that the images Eliot uses do not have one fixed signification and consequently conjure up thought
provoking ideas that need to be studied (qtd. in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This epigraph may serve as a way to connect with a certain group of scholars, as not many people
speak the language it is written in, however, when it is read in its original context it may mean that
Eliot does not foresee a very bright future, which would be in tune with the rest of the poem,
furthermore this reference strongly hints at the use of tarot cards and the notion of randomness in
the rest of the poem. The fact that this epigraph is in a foreign language greatly contributes to the
theme of the poem and is therefore discussed in the next section of this paper. Followed by the
epigraph is a quotation from the Anglican burial service, which serves as the subtitle of the first
part of the poem: 1. The Burial of the Dead . This leads us to additional intertextuality, ELIOT
April is the cruellest month, breeding Lilacs out of the dead land, mixing Memory and desire,
stirring Dull roots with spring rain.
This time Eliot does not quote another piece of text, however, he does consciously foregrounds that
he uses the opening to Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales (Bennett and Royle 5). This profusion of
intertextuality, even before The Waste Land is well and truly on

Joyce. Where are you going, Where have you been is a short story written by Joyce Carol Oates.
Eveline and Connie are two teenage girls who are ultimately trapped by the influences of their
cultures. The church plays a heavy influence on Eveline throughout the story. Eveline is conflicted
on whether she should leave with Frank or stay behind with her father. The unknown priest

Connie on the other hand is affected by the pop culture of her time. The pop culture works as
Connie s connection from the real world to her fantasy world. Connie sat with her eyes closed in
the sun, dreaming and dazed with the warmth about her as if this were a kind of love, the
caresses of love, and her mind slipped over onto thoughts of the boy she had been with the night
before and how nice he had been, how sweet it always was, not the way someone like June would
suppose but sweet, gentle, the way it was in movies and promised in songs; (Oates 211). Connie
enjoys escaping her life by listening to music and daydreaming about boys. She gets her fantasies
about romance mostly from songs on the radio. The happiness she finds with boys is mostly
fixed on these romantic fantasies and not the boys themselves. When Arnold shows up at her
house, she finds herself entranced by him. Bobby King? she said. I listen to him all the time. I
think he s great. (Oates 212). Since she notices that Arnold is playing the same music she listens to
she lowers her guard a little. She lowers her guard because the music he is listening to makes her
think that he is around her age.
Eveline and Connie are both subjugated and misguided by the culture of their times. Eveline is
obligated to do her duties as expected from the church and subdued by a patriarchal

It hurts the family tree and the culture as a whole, it crushes hope and pride and sometimes destroys

Penalties were charged on political protest, in addition with dying in custody often after brutal
torture. Those who were tried were most likely sentenced to death, banishment, or imprisonment for
life, such as Nelson Mandela. All protestors thought these penalties were unjust, because the
protestors were not actually breaking the law. They were using civil disobedience to fight for their
freedom, but unfortunately, the South African government still took it as an offense. Resistance to
apartheid within South Africa took many forms over the years, from non violent demonstrations,
protests and strikes to political action and eventually to armed resistance ( Tiddens). South Africans
were humiliated by their government, which made them feel hopeless. The white Europeans gave
them a feeling that no human should ever have to feel.
Responses to this inhumane problem were scattered all around the world, but only some made a
true impact. The Black residents reacted in any way they could, but got killed because they reacted
for many endless decades. Their responses exemplified bravery throughout South Africa and
throughout the world. Riots broke out everywhere, but white police

Chaos in Ukraine
War, chaos, depression, and corruption are some of the words to describe the chaos in Ukraine.
Since the 3 billion Eurobond lent to Ukraine by Russia weren t paid off the money, revolution was
sparked within the citizens of Ukraine and slowly erupting into something many people fear will
start another catastrophic event in Europe. Even with the strong support of NATO, the North
Atlantic Treaty Organization; Ukraine has but only two options, to move to E.U. or to move to the
support of Russia, and the citizens are divided in half, the east and west, one side wanting to
merge with Russia and the other wanting to merge with E.U.. And with Russia already annexing
Crimea, which is located below Ukraine and Russia has tens of thousands troops lined up on the
border and NATO not knowing what they should do, Ukraine is up in flames. Also with the
president of Ukraine Yanokovych leaving and rejecting office unofficially to escape, leaving the
balance of Ukraine in the hand of new president Oleksandr Twrchynov in charge of the disaster
of what is now leading to an official civil war. The question is who is going to take action and
when? NATO wanting to prevent a potential World War really doesn t have any idea what they
should do. And what does Russia even want from Ukraine? E.U. is trying to do everything
possible to not take action, but from news reporters perspectives, these events could also relate to
1939 when Hitler took over all these nations and said the reason was that he

The Maya Civilizations And The Collapse Of The Maya...
What causes a civilization to die out? Some cultures die out from war, rebellion, or foreign
invasion. Others slowly disintegrate as people stray from the rule of the civilization. However, for
the Ancient Maya civilization, the collapse was from a combination of environmental factors and
hostility, both foreign and domestic. In Jared Diamond s book, Collapse, he mentions his idea of
the five main factors that cause civilization collapse. He states that all civilizations collapse because
of either climate change, hostile neighbors, the collapse of alliances and essential trading partners,
environmental problems, or failure to adapt. The ancient Maya civilizationfollowed this pattern.
The three most instrumental factors in the decline and collapse of the Mayans are Climate Change,
Environmental Problems, and Hostility. However, to be able to prove this, we have to set up a bit
of background for the Mayans.
The Maya civilization was very advanced civilization. With millions of people at their peak, they
had no shortage of knowledge and technology. They had a better understanding of astronomy
than most cultures at that time. They created a calendar similar to the one we have today, with
365 days and 18 months, divided into three seasons. Accurate observations of the stars allowed
them to have calendars that closely resemble the calendars we have today. Additionally, they had
books, one of which was their holy book, recounting the story of two heroic twins called
Hunahpu and Xbalanque.[insert footnote. Source 1] Finally, the Mayans had an incredibly
advanced system for agriculture, using canals and reservoirs to their advantage. The Maya had an
incredibly advanced technology and an abundance of knowledge, creating a civilization that
incomparable to any other civilizations at that time. One of the reasons the Maya disappeared was
because of their environmental problems. The Maya overused their land, causing deforestation
and erosion. The Maya lived in a densely forested part of Mesoamerica, but they didn t use it well.
Given their dependence on trees, deforestation quickly became a problem. Their iconic pyramids
alone required, ...massive amounts of wood to fuel the fires that cooked the lime plaster for

One Green Apple Chapter Summary
One Green Apple tells the story of Farrah a young immigrant and her second day of school in the
new country. Speaking no English, Farrah is dropped off at an apple orchid with her classmates
and marvels at the differences and similarities between her and the other children as they ride in
a hay wagon. Stopping near a bunch of apple trees, Farrah understands that they are to pick one
apple. As the teacher slowly yet kindly tries to explain what to do to her, Farrah wishes that she
could tell the teacher that she understands but does not know the words. As her classmates pick
the ripe red fruit from the trees, Farrah finds a small green apple that is different and alone as she
is. As the group drops their apples into the machine, Farrah hangs back wondering if she should be
with the others until a girl waves her... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As they kids drink the cider they contributed in making, Anna, the girl who waved Farrah over
tells her it is apple cider. As the group leaves the orchid, they laugh, and one boy belches and
Farrah notes that laughs and sneezes and many other things sound the same way that they do in
her home country. Taking a breath, she sounds out the word app ell and as her new friend claps,
Farrah smiles as she learns her first new word. In chapter 11 of Essentials, we looked at literature
for a diverse society. The chapter stressed the importance of education for students that is
multicultural and intercultural, and culturally critical. It states that children literature allows for
this by providing the opportunity to immerse oneself in a story and gain insight into how people
feel, live and think (p.215). One Green Apple is an exemplary example of this as it is told from
the perspective of a young immigrant who speaks no English and is

Martin Luther King Jr Influence
For centuries, African Americans and indigenous peoples have been overlooked, discriminated
against, and seen as inferior for one reason: the colour of their skin. Over time, society has
evolved in many ways due to many people s courage and determination, notably Martin Luther
King Jr a Baptist Minister and the leader of multiple civil rights protests and movements. In
Australia, Aboriginal people were granted voting rights before Federation in 1901, but only if they
had served in the army and were over 21. It wasn t until 1962 that all Aboriginal Australians were
allowed to vote. In 1924, all Native Americans were granted the right to vote, regardless of cultural

Martin Luther King Jr. enlightened so many lives. He shifted the world s balance and changed
the way people see. In the modern day, society are more trusting and inclusive of people from
different cultures every day, and King was the spark that lighted that fire of equality. To order
King s most to least successful achievements and attempts, I could not decipher, as his entire
career was a complete success and society would not be where we are today if it weren t for each
accomplishment. But to name all his massive political triumphs in order of their occurrence I can:
King was chosen to head the Montgomery Improvement Association, he became the youngest
recipient of the Spingarn Medal, he became president of a group known as the Southern Christian
Leadership Conference, he led a nonviolent army to protest against discrimination in Albany, he
campaigned to achieve the desegregation of many public facilities in Birmingham, he received a
Nobel Peace Prize, he led a drive to register black voters in Selma, Alabama, he conducted a five
day march from Selma to the capitol in Montgomery, he organized protests against the city s

The Role Of Sitting Bull In The Black Hills
In 1874 gold was discovered in the Black Hills. President Grant was forced to make a harsh
decision because the Black Hills were located in the Great Sioux Reservation that the Indians had
gained under the Treaty of 1868. President Grant allowed miners to enter the Black Hills and
insisted that this act would be legalized. Government attempted to acquire the Black Hills, where
the gold was located however Sitting Bullwas against the sale of the land. The Great War of Sioux
1876 resulted from a disagreement between miners and Indians. Miners had already begun to
come to the Black Hills to mine for goal and the government allowed these things to happen.
Because Sitting Bull and his army men were not sure of what would have happened when the
white men entered they were forced to attack in fear. They had not interfered with the gold rush,
and although they had not signed the Treaty of 1868, in sanctioned their residence in the
unceded territory (Utley pg34). Sitting Bull gave orders to his young soldiers to harass whites at
Yellowstone and in other areas all because he was trying to be proactive and attack them before
they attacked him and his people. Sitting Bull was unaware that his actions were considered to be
an improper thing to do. Because of the actions of Sitting Bull s army, they were forced to leave
the reservation or come face to face to the military. After all of these things occurred they were still
naive to the fact that the Americans were trying to start a

  • 2. Compare Modern Education In China With The Educational... 1.Compare modern education in China with the educational system prior to 1911. What are the key similarities and differences between the two? There have been a lot of educational reforms over the years in which it can be traced as far back as far as the Shang Dynasty. Education is necessary as it lead to wealth and success, so it was and still is important to the Chinese people, in the past and now. Which is a similarity, educationhas always been valued by the people. There was a plan to reform to increase public education and rebuild the society. In 1911, the difference was that the government was completely forsaken towards the traditional way of education. Historically, there was a pattern to divide china and the educational system between private and official, in which there was a purpose to train students to be better. 2.Using Zhang Yimou s film Not One Less, identify challenges that a migrant from the country to the city might encounter. One challenge would be that since it is such a long journey and there isn t a lot of money for transportation, it typically takes around a month for a migrant to go to the city. They need to find someone to take care of their jobs or other needs that need to be taken care of while they are gone. In the case of the video, the teacher had to find a young girl to teach the class while he was gone. She was inexperienced and didn t have very many talents of her own. Another challenge that they would have is that they would be very unfamiliar with the city lifestyle. When the young girl reaches the city she looks to be intrigued with how much is going on compared to what she had in her village. Also, everything in the city is more expensive for them coming from poverty. 3.Identify three challenges faced by rural schools in China. Discuss three realistic ways that these problems might be overcome. There are a lot of challenges that students and teachers have to face in rural schools in China. Teachers are very hard to find because a lot of them are not educated. Overtime this can be solved as more children are going to school and are getting an education. Since education is very hard to get, it can be very expensive. And unfortunately, the poverty rate is very ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Essay about The Roman Military Reforms institued by Gaius... The hypothesis of this report is that the military reforms instituted by Gaius Marius ultimately paved the way for the fall of the Roman Republic. The reforms instituted by Marius were designed as a way to strengthen the Republic by professionalizing the Roman military, but instead resulted in long term political consequences that contributed to the decline of the Republic and the creation of the Empire. In this report, the decline of the republic specifically refers to the loss of the Senate s authority over Rome s generals. From 112 106 BC, a Numidian king called Jurgurtha was engaged in a war with Rome due to an attempt to seize power from his half brother, Adherbal. The Romans arrived due to the request of Adherbal, and the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As many of these new recruits did not fit in these categories, and were unable to provide their own equipment, Marius arranged for the State to supply them with arms and armour. He then offered the masses a permanent career as professional soldiers, and the opportunity to gain spoils on the campaign. With little hope of gaining status in other ways, the masses flocked to join Marius. The cause of this reform was largely due to recurring recruitment problems faced by the Roman republic, as most soldiers were expected to return to their farms after long campaigns, but since the campaigns were becoming increasingly longer due to the distance of the conflicts from rome, the farms were left deserted and ruined do to prolonged absence of workers. As such, the returning soldiers found themselves without property making them illegible for military service, thus weakening the army. (William G. Sinnigen) As such, Marius believed these deficiencies in the Roman army recruitment system needed urgent attention, and his solution was to offer those with nothing the ability to have everything. Along with the new recruitment system, Marius also improved and enhanced the military training by basing it upon those used and developed by gladiators and also abolished the three different types of soldiers, each armed and positioned by rank and experience, with cohorts of men universally armed and created the use of the eagle as the standard for ... Upon, receiving a judgment and once the offender makes contact, the CSRP initiates an interview to obtain information about the offenders criminal history and other relevant information needed in order to assess the risks and needs of the offender. All of the information acquired at this interview is then inputted into a database and used for monitoring purposes and work site placement. The CSRP maintains a list of appropriate community service work site options that include the phone number, address, hours of operation and contact names for work site supervisors. • 5. The Importance Of A New Land Unspoken Language As stated earlier knowing the local market is important. Mr. Gaffney was quoted saying If the local issues can t be solved we won t do business there. Since shareholder s approval is important he said, If we can t meet shareholder expectations we won t get involved . The reason Mr. Gaffney learned that communication is important was not only due to involvement with coworkers but with the language barriers as well. When deciding to enter a new land unspoken language won t make business very profitable in the new land. This reasoning is when he believed that having skilled local workers is key when working in a foreign country. You need that individuals that can understand the rules and regulations of the host country as well as adopt the methods of the business entering the foreign country. An example that he used was how South America doesn t have a market in trains. If they were to inter that market they would send teams to work with the locals to develop new technology that would benefit the region and bring about profit. South America might not have much of a railroad market but other countries do. Competition is an important development that BT keeps track of. It was stated saying that you always have to adapt your business model based on competition. We then closed out the interview with one major questions. We asked about any advice that he could give a college graduate about how to perform well in international business. His response was something that he felt as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Tissue Ownership Essay Morgan Boudreaux Mrs. Romero English II, 3rd Block 23 September, 2013 Tissue Ownership I think people are morally obligated to allow their bits and pieces to be used to advance knowledge to help others (Korn). Different people have opposing opinions on the topic of whether or not patients or doctors own the body tissues after it s been removed from the patient. Ownership is the act, state, or right of possessing something. Tissue ownership is different from ownership because once it leaves your body, you no longer own it. Contributing your tissues to the science world is superior because you can speed up medical advances, avoid litigation, and become a better individual by contributing to science and society. One of the most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Eventually, Moore hired a lawyer, who discovered that Golde had used Moore s Spleen to develop a valuable immortal cell line named Mo. Moore filed a lawsuit, claiming that his bodily tissues were his own property, and that Golde had stolen them. A series of rulings and appeals about his case launched an intense national debate. Golde won because he s the one who made the cells valuable. He did all of the work. This situation relates to this debate because if the doctor s would have had ownership over the tissues in the first place, none of this would not have happened. This also proves that the law is on the doctor s side. If doctors had ownership of the tissues and the right to do whatever they wanted to them, they would not have to go through all this trouble. Lastly, you can become a better person by contributing to science and society. Since everybody benefits, everybody can accept the small risks of having their tissue scraps used in research (Korn). Basically, donating your cells to science in order to help millions of people is morally the right thing to do. This is also a respectable thing to do. People should take pride in knowing that they have saved other peoples lives. It s not as if scientists are stealing your arm or some vital organ. They are using tissue scraps you parted with voluntarily (Skloot). It s not like they are taking a major part of your body away, it s something that you don t even need. It is ... • 7. Testing is Overrated Essay Students dread the time of the year when they stop with their course material and begin to prepare for test. Everyone is in agreement that some type of revolution is needed when it comes to education; eliminating standardized test will aid the reform. The need for standardized testing has proven to be ineffective and outdated; some leading educationalist also believe this because the tests do not measure a student s true potential. This will save money, stop labeling, and alleviate stress in students and teachers. Now more than ever, money is scarce and one way to increase this money supply is by the elimination of standardized testing. The cost for standardized testing in 2nd graders is roughly estimated to be between $2 $4 million, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These tests tend to cause the student s too much stress and puts pressure on them to obtain a certain score on these test that are required on a yearly basis. Teachers also set aside too much time to teach strategies for taking the test and lecturing on how to eliminate some choices. According to Kathy Frandle this is A huge waste of instruction time (Fridy). Furthermore, the unneeded stress generally leads to a state of anxiety and it is setting too many of them up for devastating failure and, consequently, lowered self esteem (Perrone). Each state teaches their students different material at different rates and this is why some states place pressure of testing companies to dumb down the test (Margie). Each state s tests are created by the state; therefore, they can make the test as easy as possible to make everyone succeed on it. Some states have districts in poverty and cannot afford the best textbooks or technologies; therefore, their students do not reach their potential. When these districts have scores that are too low they do not receive federal grants; therefore, this puts them into a further bind. Standardized testing does not occur at the college level where someone might assume that it would be mandated. When someone is taking a test to enter a college, wouldn t it be logical for a ... Mayall s Object (Arp 148) Mayall s object (also known as Arp 148) is the stunning result of an encounter between two galaxies resulting in a ring shaped galaxy and a long tailed companion, located almost 465 million light years away within the constellation Ursa Major. The pair extends across 80 thousand light years. The collision between the two parent galaxies produced a shockwave effect that first drew matter into the center and then caused it to propagate outwards in a ring. The elongated companion perpendicular to the ring suggests that Arp 148 offers a unique view of a collision in progress. What probably has been the core of the target galaxy can be seen as a small yellow area at 5 o clock inside the newly formed ring. Massive star formation dominates the ring. Thanks to the work of Zoo members I have so far found about 125 Collisional Rings in the Galaxy Zoo (and still searching...!) so we can safely say that Collisional Rings are quite a rare phenomenon. • 10. Evil In The Consolation Of Philosophy By Boethius When I think of the concept of evil, I think of The Consolation of Philosophy by Boethius. In The Consolation of Philosophy, Lady Philosophy stated: It is enough to have understood only that God, the Creator of all things in nature, also governs all things, directing them to good. And, since He carefully preserves everything which He made in his own likeness, He excludes by fatal necessity all evil from the bounds of his state. Therefore, if you fix your attention to Providence as the governor of all things, you will find that the evil which is thought to abound in the world is really nonexistent. Book 4; Prose 6 Lady Philosophy is stating that evil does not actually exist, and God would not create evil because it is unnatural. Rather, evil people seek happiness in misguided ways. Therefore, evil is actually confusion. This ties well with Descartes explanation of why we error. Descartes states that humans make mistakes because we exist between God and nothingness. We have the ability to make mistakes because we are not perfect like God, we participate in nothingness, and use our free will. This could be used to argue for the why there is evil. God did not create evilness, and humans do not seek to be evil. We perceive people to be evil because... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many of the choice we make have consequences, but is it is impossible to live in a way in which we do not take risks. • 13. The Financial Meltdown Of 2008 The Lehman Brothers scandal is what many consider to be the catalyst that started the financial meltdown of 2008. This paper is meant to look at what took place during the start of the meltdown and what caused Lehman to fail. Who was involved? What caused one of the largest banking institutions in history to fail? What could have been done differently? These are a few of the questions I d like to address in the next few pages. In the Fall of 2008 things were starting to look bad for Lehman Brothers. Much of their investments were in the housing market which was beginning to fall, and fall hard. Fulds goals were essentially to overtake rivals like Goldman or Merrill who had been in the game for a long time, using borrowed money was his solution to this. In 1994, right around when Dick Fulds was appointed CEO, Lehman shares were valued at $4/share, by 2007 at Lehman s peak, shares were valued at a staggering $84/share. This massive growth was primarily attributed to Lehman s expansion into other more complex investments, including credit default swaps. As defined by Investopedia, A credit default swapis a particular type of swap designed to transfer the credit exposure of fixed income products between two or more parties. In a credit default swap, the buyer of the swap makes payments to the swap s seller up until the maturity date of a contract. In return, the seller agrees that, in the event that the debt issuer defaults or experiences another credit event, the seller will pay the buyer the security s premium as well all interest payments that would have been paid between that time and the security s maturity date. At the time this was seen as a normal practice, but firms began to speculate with these swaps and this is what ultimately caused many large financial firms like AIG to collapse. Risk was the name of the game and was how Lehman began to operate under Fuld. It was believed that the firms creating these complicated risky investments were distributing risk wide ... They target people to rile up a dispute, start the war, and gain allies (World without Genocide 2). Many people are dying whether due to poverty, indirectly, or political stance, directly. What people don t yet understand is the major differences between college and high school. Another idea that is not thought of, are they prepared to handle the difficulties and challenges that go forth in earning their desired degree? Attending collegeis only for people who are willing to take on this challenge. In high school, it is illegal to be truant and classroom attendance is required to graduate so, the only responsibility that a student has is to arrive at school on time. Since attendance is required, it is easy to get into a routine that stays constant over four years. All that is needed is to show up to the first class of the day and all classes are set up for the rest of the day. In class, teachers usually hand out assignments regularly and tell their students the due dates of each assignment. Some teachers even go ahead and have any assignments that are due posted in their classroom to remind students every day. The only responsibility that the high school student has is to look at the white board and remind themselves that they might have an assignment to do that night at home. Once they go home after a day at school, students will have the help of their parents or guardians to ask if they have homework that night. Parents are an enormous help when it comes to high school. Students have the responsibility from their parents to help them be reminded constantly of upcoming events and due dates. The work load that also comes from high school is, what most would call, minimal compared to a college setting. Classes in high school are a year long term and each section of each course is drawn out. For example, a class could take two weeks to complete one chapter. This allows teachers to explain the material in detail and give out worksheets that contain small portions of one chapter. Most of these worksheets can be completed in class allowing students to not have any work outside of the class room. What this creates is a workload that is very simple to maintain and allow students to worry less about working at home. In most college classrooms, the instructor does not take attendance. • 32. The First Human Organ Transplant In December of 1954, the first human organ transplant was performed in the United States between identical twin brothers. In the past sixty years, organ transplantation has become the gold standard in the treatment of organ failure from a number of underlying causes with dramatic improvements to recipients health and quality of life (Kaserman, 2007). From the first kidney transplant in 1954 to the late 1980 s, one of the biggest advancements was the use of cadaver organs. Organ rejection was the primary concern from the transplant team who knew that the use of cadaver organs posed higher risks of failure. The successful use of cadaver organs was made possible by the development of immunosuppressive drugs like cyclosporine. The practice of utilizing immunosuppressive drugs has led to a decrease of transplant failure rejection of a new organ by the recipient s own immune system (Kaserman, 2007). As research continues to look for new ways to decrease organ rejection rates, the majority of recipients take immunosuppressive drugs and will need to do so indefinitely (Ehlers, 2002). Kaserman states that as the transplant industry grew, a need for guidelines became apparent and hence requested that Congress create a governing body (2007). In response, the United States government created the current system in 1984 which has been revised several times. The system is governed by the National Organ Transplant Act. The de emphasis of the returning 3 as a passing tone from 4 to 2 lends importance to the incomplete upper neighbor A, supported by IV. This self contained tonal area stretches over half of the Preludio. A reprise of an opening passage at the initiation of the A prolongation gestures its independence from its surrounding, indeed a smaller organism enveloped within the larger animal. This is evident through the internal auxiliary cadence to A that accompanies the tonal area IV. In retrospect, the IV is already a long term goal from the beginning. The first 58 measures properly set the stage for the emergence of IV. The first step on the path to IV is the movement to VI as a short term goal. This is done by first moving to G# (m.39) through F# (m.37), creating a third progression E F# G# in the process. The G# is employed first in the top voice as primary tone and then in the bass as pedal point, also the fifth to the incoming C# (m.51) [FIG 4. EX. 1]. The C#, in a sense, is a midway stopping point from E major on its way to A major. A# in measure 53 leads to B, creating yet another third progression G# A# B. The B is to be read not as V of E but as II of A, unfolding to tonic through two consecutive fifths B E A [EX.2]. As we shall see, the contour of the bass forecasts what is to come; additionally this prelude within the Preludio presents the material for further elaboration and development. The slogan Real Men Wear Pink denotes a naked man being embraced by a woman who is holding a bottle of Joop Homme. The representation of the man connotes a masculine confidence in wearing pink, a colour traditionally used to represent femininity. This suggests that the man is confident in his masculinity and that he doesn t need colours like blue or black to show his masculinity and also that he is subverting the stereotype of male representation. Melishkevich SUMMARY Main Claim of Paper: Religious divisions in Madan (and other Bulgarian towns in the Rhodope region) are produced by a religious borderland in which individuals grapple with ideological conflict and tension, characterized by Eastern vs. Western influences. Support: Factual information and quotes from Muslim Lives in Eastern Europe; Supportive information (for comparisons) from other books /places examined this semester. CONSTRUCTIVE FEEDBACK (with some complimentary questions) Argument: Pushing back against Ghodsee s notion that Madan is unique due to the combination of its large Muslim populations and the collapse of GORUBSO, the paper builds off past discussions of borderland (with Where the World Ended and Consecution and Social Change) to argue that a religious borderland is responsible for divisions in the Bulgarian Muslim population. After dying from his wounds, Arthur was said to be buried on the south side of the cemetery, right in the middle of two large stone pyramids. Eventually, a man named Henry II, the King of England at that time had information about the cemetery and asked the Abbot to dig within the site of the cemetery . Throughout history love has been a favoured theme with many poets in their writing. Carol Ann Duffy, (born 1958) tackles the issue of lovein her poem Valentine, as does Percy Bysshe Shelly (1792 1822) in the poem Love s Philosophy, and finally Robert Burns (1759 1796) considers the topic in A Red Red Rose. These aspects contribute to the poem giving an overall impression that love is everlasting and also holds the world together in a unifying way. These previous images also enforce Burns message that love lasts, survives and can be relied on. Burns suggests love will last till a the seas gang dry. This is physically impossible and through this Burns is suggesting that love is so powerful that it can defy the laws of physics. Through this Burns also implies that love can surmount boundaries of space and time, the seas gang dry . This finally enforces that love is an enduring power and will never fade. The title A Red Red Rose further implements Burns messages that the course of true love does run smoothly. The red rose is a typical symbol of love and therefore Burns is suggesting, perhaps naively, that love is a clear and simple path to follow in life. The title also suggests that Burns feels love should be celebrated and life should be lived to the full. The title also alerts the reader to the fact that Burns is addressing the traditional aspects of love. The poem has a regular structure throughout and strong rhyme. Burns has written the poem in this way in an attempt to portray love as a strong force, which can be depended on. Burns has also included alternate line rhyme throughout the poem. This ... This could be highly disturbing to the audience. Even though the idea of the other right is skillfully set up, there s a taboo about exploiting children and seeing an explosive vest on a child could dissuade a producer. With that said there are other areas worth discussing for possible revisions. However, even without these possible revisions, the script feels marketable. The first area worth discussing is the opening scene in central park and the hot dog cart. It s creative and interesting choice, but highly unrealistic. When first read, one was not sure of the tone, especially with the description of processed guts and yumminess. A more realistic scene doesn t involve a hot dog cart, but simply people strolling in the park, and perhaps some teens or a homeless person find something like a box and it s a bomb. The idea of the bomber going to the trouble of getting a hot dog cart is more for dramatic purposes than realistic. The scene between Jackson and Wally on page 2 isn t the most engaging i.e. their dialogue. What works is the subtext about Life is chess. You better have a plan A, B, and C, or game over. • 47. The Maya Civilizations And The Collapse Of The Maya... What causes a civilization to die out? Some cultures die out from war, rebellion, or foreign invasion. Others slowly disintegrate as people stray from the rule of the civilization. However, for the Ancient Maya civilization, the collapse was from a combination of environmental factors and hostility, both foreign and domestic. In Jared Diamond s book, Collapse, he mentions his idea of the five main factors that cause civilization collapse. He states that all civilizations collapse because of either climate change, hostile neighbors, the collapse of alliances and essential trading partners, environmental problems, or failure to adapt. The ancient Maya civilizationfollowed this pattern. The three most instrumental factors in the decline and collapse of the Mayans are Climate Change, Environmental Problems, and Hostility. However, to be able to prove this, we have to set up a bit of background for the Mayans. The Maya civilization was very advanced civilization. With millions of people at their peak, they had no shortage of knowledge and technology. They had a better understanding of astronomy than most cultures at that time. They created a calendar similar to the one we have today, with 365 days and 18 months, divided into three seasons. Accurate observations of the stars allowed them to have calendars that closely resemble the calendars we have today. Additionally, they had books, one of which was their holy book, recounting the story of two heroic twins called Hunahpu and Xbalanque.[insert footnote.
