Social Class And Gender Equality In Charlotte Bronte s...
Men are sexist creatures who deserve every cruel act they have inflicted on women for centuries.
So say the radical feminists of the twenty first century who follow misandry, which is the hatred of
men. In fact, nineteenth century author, Charlotte Bronte, stood for the opposite as she believed in
equality for all. She was against the public view that only men were allowed to be in the political
and public spheres of society while women did not even own themselves. In spite of the efforts
produced by feminists from the nineteenth century, misandry has created a border between these
feminist s beliefs and values to the radical feminists of the twenty first century. Furthermore,
Charlotte Bronte s values of social class and genderequality in Jane Eyre are perhaps in response to
Abigail Adams Remember the Ladies, in which, Adam s demonstrates the issues of societal values.
These issues continue to echo in Sarah McVeigh s interview with Jessa Crispin in Why I m not a
feminist, where Crispin implies twenty first century feminists create a backlash in society as they
result in misandry.
In the nineteenth century, Charlotte Bronte experienced society s hierarchy of social class and
gender stereotypes first hand. In response to society s hierarchy, Charlotte Bronte integrates her
experience of entrapment in society classes through Jane Eyre by stating, a flock of white plumy
birds (160). The key point Bronte emphasizes the comparison that women are like beautiful white
birds

Bend It Like Beckham Analysis
Bend It Like Beckham , directed by Gurinder Chadha is a 2002 comedic sports film, based in
London, England. The plot follows an athletic 18 year old girl; Jesminder Bhamra and her strict
parents who detest Jess passion and love for playing soccer as it refutes their family s Indian
Sikh religious morals. Jess feels a lot of pressure and guilt throughout the film as she is
ultimately betraying her family, yet everyone in her team supports her, including the coach, Joe
who tries to convince Jess that her parents don t always know what s best for her. In every
family, there is often a distinct line between what a person wants to do and achieve, compared to
what their parents and family members expect of them. This clichГ© can be easily applied to
many of the characters including Tony Jess best pal, Juliet Paxton the player who suggested Jess
joined the local team and Jess with their conflicts between their families. Aside from being the
main character in the film, Jesminder suffers the worst conflict between her parents and family,
throughout the entire storyline. Despite her parent s wishes and concerns towards Jess passion,
she makes the decision to secretively continue to spend hours in the local park playing with other
passionate male players whenever she could spare the time. This soon brought on an offer from a
player from the local soccer team, who was amazed by Jess skills, and she soon joined the team, all
without her parent s knowing. As mentioned earlier,

Importance Of Cultural Diversity In Schools
Cultural diversity has been an important topic amongst school systems for quite some time now.
There have been events that have occurred in history that have aided to the discussion, whether it is
positive or negative. Events that have stood out from the crowd include segregated schools that
wanted nothing to do with a race outside their own and schools that were eventually integrated but
not taught fairly to those amongst them. These events shaped the future for our school systems
today and as educators, it is our job to learn from them ourselves as well as educate students in
regards to this sensitive, very real manner.
Cultural diversity covers an array of areas. Culture in itself is, that complex whole which includes
knowledge, belief, arts, morals, laws, customs, and any other capabilities and habits acquired by
a human as a member of society, (UNESCO, n.d.). Different senses of culture are in multitude
when one takes a look at society as a whole. No two types of individuals, from different cultural
backgrounds, are the same on many different levels of living much less in school learning. This
area of importance begins in the classroom. For our students, cultural diversity is seen through
the lens of society, which is not always clear. As the teacher, an individual has to create a socially
accepted environment for each and every student that walks through his or her door on a daily
basis. In doing so, as a part of a lesson we will select groups and research key

Media Piracy
Executive Summary
Disney and the Pirates of the Industry
I.Introduction
As a global company with high interest in both the music and film industries, it is essential that
Disney deal with media piracy effectively. With Internet access increasing globally, piracy has the
potential to create huge financial losses for Disney. In order to adequately deal with this problem,
it is necessary to comprehend the history and evolution of piracy, its impacts on music and film
industries, and its effect on the development of innovative business strategies. This brief will
address various issues relating to media piracy in order to make insightful recommendations.
II.Factors in the Evolution of Media Piracy
A major issue in business today is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another strategy enacted by the entertainment industries is the use of digital rights management
systems (DRMS). DRMS are tools for the media industry to fight piracy by controlling access to
and usage of digital data, essentially going beyond the restrictions of copyright law by putting
additional limits on distribution of intellectual property (Fetscherin 2003). For example, the iTunes
online music store encodes its music files so that they may not be illegally copied (Dela 2005).
DRMS is a controversial topic, as many consumers claim that DRMS restrictions take away the
benefits of the digital world (Fetscherin 2003). This represents the conflict in ideology between
consumers and industries. Having said that, Disney has to preserve its competitiveness in the
industry by closely following all the technological developments associated with copyright
protection. As the industry shifts more and more towards online retail, the theme of copyright
protection of digital files will continue to recur.
The government s position in the media piracy issue is more complicated. Governments must try to
appease the industries but also face the conflict of consumer interests (Harmon 2003). This involves

Women s Conditions In The Victorian Age
For many years, women have been considered inferior to men and, as a consequence, they have
been subservient to men and to their own families. For instance, they had to be chaste, obedient,
sympathetic, powerless, they could not go out when they wanted or dressed as they liked, but they
were expected to stay at home and dedicated themselves to the education of children and to the
domestic cleaning.
In the history of the United Kingdom, an important period that contributed to the subsequent
independence of women was the Victorian Age. During this era, we can identify three types of
women:
Women who belonged to the nobility class; they were educated and they had the opportunity to
enjoy a luxurious life.
Middle class women; one of their main goals was to marry a noble man in order ... Show more

The history of the main character, Jane, can be seen as a symbolical pilgrimage towards
maturity and fulfillment (Newman 1996:475) which began in Gateshead where she lived with
her evil, wealthy aunt Mrs. Reed who sent Jane to Lowood Institution, a school for poor and
orphaned girls. Time passed and after eight years, Jane left Lowood and found a job as a
governess at Thornfield Hall where she fell in love with the master of the house, Edward
Rochester, who proposed to her; however, the day of the marriageJane found out that Mr.
Rochester was already married to Bertha, who was mad and locked up in the attic of Thornfield.
After that disillusionment, Jane s trip continued to Moor House, where she was said that her dead
uncle left her a great inheritance, and she also decided to give a second opportunity to Mr.
Rochester after hearing his voice in the wind. The history ended in Ferndean with the marriage
between Jane and Mr. Rochester, who after losing his eyesight in a fire, progressively recovered it
just in time to see their firstborn

Giving Birth and Back to Work, Are the Benefits Enough?
According to dictionary.com parental leave is a leave of absence from a job for a parent to care for
a new baby. Paternal leave can either be paid or unpaid and refers to many different types of leave
including maternity, paternity, and adoption leave. Cambridge Dictionaries Online defines
maternity leave as the period when a woman can legally be absent from work in the weeks before
and after she has a baby and paternity leave as a period of time that a father is legally allowed to be
away from his job so that he can spend time with his new baby. Although adoption leave is a type
of paternal leave offered to working citizens, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is an excellent option as it would allow parents to take paid leave but there are also many
disadvantages to this approach. First, some employees, especially if they are new, often
accumulate very little sick or vacation time. If someone is earning four hours a pay period and
there are 26 pay periods in a year, they would only accumulate approximately 13 days of leave. If
they accrue sick leave at the same rate, that would give the employee a total of 26 days of paid
leave, not even a month. Adding in a typical 10 federal holidays, an employee would have
approximately 36 days for which they could take leave and be paid for which does not provide
adequate income for an employee who has chosen to take the full 12 weeks of leave offered by
FMLA. Using up all of one s leave can also create issues. If the employee catches the flu but has
used up all of their leave, they will have to take leave without pay. If the employee has more than
one child and that child becomes ill, they will not have to take leave without pay in order to stay
home and nurse the child. This leave without pay could be covered under FMLA but if all of the
benefits were used up during paternity leave, their position could be in jeopardy if they needed to
take leave without pay for unforeseen reasons. Using holiday pay could prove to be difficult
because employees may not always get

Minnesota Timberland Case Study
Minnesota is the United States 12th largest state, spanning 86,939 miles. The state is home to
around 5.4 million people, with around 60 percent of people living within the major metropolitan
areas of St. Paul and Minneapolis. Nicknamed the Land of 10,000 Lakes, Minnesota holds 11,842
lakes of over 10 acres, leading to diverse ecosystems and the division of Minnesota s territory into
distinct biomes that impact agricultural output and general land use. Agriculture dominates
Minnesota s landscape, covering 46.7 percent of total land. The 2012 Census of Agriculture
conducted by the United StatesDepartment of Agriculture (USDA) reported a decrease in the
number of farms from 2007 to 2012, but an increase in the acreage per farm and a large... Show

Forests cover 31 percent of total land in Minnesota, with 15.9 million acres classified as
timberland, While most homes are now fueled by hydrocarbons and fossil fuels, Minnesota
timber is harvested for several different purposes, including pulp and paper production as well as
lumber for housing. Among these trees, the Aspen species dominates the market with 61 percent
of Minnesota s total timberland cover. Private owners control 47 percent of the total timberland
in Minnesota. The remaining 53 comes from a combination of federal, state, and local
governments (Minnesota Department of Natural Resources 2012). According to the von Thunen
model, timber would have to be in close proximity to a market in order to provide fuel for
populations. In a modern perspective, however, timber forests, both private and state owned are
isolated away from society in areas with sparse populations. Thus, forests and timberland may
now be considered wilderness and potentially agree with the von Thunen model, as they exist far
from the confines of the city center. According to the University of Minnesota land economics
dataset, timberland values in closer proximity to the St. Paul Minneapolis metropolitan area,
specifically in Atkin County eclipse those of St. Louis County to the north. St. Louis County s
timberland is priced at $1,039 per acre, while Atkin County is priced at $1,329 per acre. Each of
these counties hold large amounts of timberland acreage, but Atkin may hold an advantage in land
prices due to its location closer to the city center. Another factor that may contribute to this
difference in land prices is the relative abundance in acreage and size of St. Louis County in
comparison to Atkin. Sparse population density and a larger number of trees in the area would
increase the supply of timber in the

The Montgomery Bus
December 1, 1955 was a day that I will never forget because it marks the anniversary of the
Montgomery bus incident. On that date, I had gotten on a city bus to head home after a long day
working at the tailor shop, and I was later arrested. At this point, my mind was focused on why
equality is deserved and how I should defend my spot on the bus. I had been sitting in a seat in the
back half of the bus where I was supposed to go. During a certain point in the ride home, there
had been an excess amount of people getting on compared to the usual 5 10 passengers. Therefore,
some of us blacks had been told to give up our seats to the white peoplewho deserved it more. Me,
being African American was one of the lucky ones who was told to let... Show more content on

It was a normal day, and I was at work until I had to go. Then everything took a turn once I had
sat down on the bus and was asked to give up my seat to a more deserving person than I. The way
I reacted was by deciding that standing up for myself was the best way to go. So, I stayed on the
bus until the bus driver had called the police to come and get me. They eventually had shown up
to where I was on the bus and handcuffed me, and I was then arrested sitting in a cop car. At the
start of the day, I had foreseen a nice, normal day without having big problems to worry about
such as this one. As soon as this had all happened, and I was arrested and put in jail, my whole
day was turned around. This being said, jail was a very different experience compared to
everyday normal routines. It was so isolated, and you were put in a cell with very little places to
sit or things to do. Jail was not a place I would call nice, but once you re there, you start to think
about what you did to end up there in the first place. Even with those thoughts, I still had the gut
feeling, wondering why segregation was a rule that had to be made. The idea of separating
people for the color of their skin was just a way of discriminating race against people. Many
African Americans were living in poverty and ended up in desperate need for simple, everyday
items because they weren t allowed to have good jobs to pay for those costs. I myself grew up in
a family where everyone, no matter what the age, as long as you could walk and talk, had to
work a job to earn money. There were times in my life, when my family and I barely had enough
to keep our house. This just goes to show that everyone matters, and nobody should have to live in

1a] A fracture refers to a bone or cartilage that has attained too much pressure and stress that
causes a break in the bone or cartilage. Diseases such as osteoporosis and brittle bones disease
can be the cause of a fracture as your bones are weaker and not as tough. Jenny s fracture on the
left humerus at the proximal diaphysis was caused by an overload of stress from the large object
falling down. 1b] The proximal refers to the point of attachment where the boneconnects.
1c] Diaphysis is known as the main and mid section of the long bone.

In brains context, due to the rapid increase in body temperature the skeletal muscles would try
regulate an internal body environment. The general anaesthetic caused the patient to experience
effects of malignant hyperthermia. Brian s temperature will increase because the contracting
muscles will alter the energy and turn it into heat.
2] The steps of events and cell location that leads to a release of calcium for muscle contraction, is
produced by an electrical impulse which was caused by a stimulus. The impulse causes the muscle
membrane to have a charge which then makes the calcium ions leave from the sarcoplasmic
reticulum. When calcium and troponin are attached to each other it makes tropomyosin which
move away from the actin filaments which allows the contractions to occur
3] The receptor of the anaesthetic is located in the sarcoplasmic reticulum. Due to the general
anaesthetic Brian experienced the symptoms of malignant hyperthermia which causes the skeletal

Research Paper On Why Military Service Should Be Mandatory
Military Service: Should It Be Mandatory? Fighting for the homeland means fighting for freedom,
but how can men defend their country against enemies if they lack of the ability to fight?
Conscription is strategy that utilized by nations to assemble a large and powerful military,
prepared to be deployed in times of war or when the need to ensure the power of the state emerges.
Mostly, conscriptionis for male and in some cases and some countries have also for women, and
usually begins as soon as the end of the study; at the age, 18 years old. It consists of basic training
and serve for two to three years maximum. Countries depend on their soldiers to protect and defend

Most people maintain that serving the community should be voluntary, and each individual has the
absolute freedom to join or not to join the military service. However, it is argued that military
service builds individual personality and improves his skills in combat and defense, so there is no
rational reason not to make conscription mandatory. A person s character changed for the better
during his service in the military. To begin with, mandatory service teaches the person self
discipline. Michael Anthony, an author who served in US army, writes in his article, What the
Military Teaches About Self Discipline, that discipline must be ground into conscript. He needs to
gain physical strength, perseverance, knowledge, and courage, n.d. When an individual joins the
military service, he forces to do more than he thinks he can; he learns to obey commands and
commits to important values, such as learning how to be punctual in time. Daily workouts, meals,

The History Of Algebra, How It Started, The Most Study...
This paper will show the history of algebra, how it started, and how it grew to be what it is today. It
will show that it started it developments from the basic arithmetic operations that first were used to
solve simple addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division and how it went incorporating more
operations that permitted it to solve problems that involve abstract concepts. It will show that the
recorded history begins mostly with the Egyptian papyrus, and how it went passing from one
civilization. Moreover; it will show how each civilization contributed with something that at the end
helped it to become what it is today, the most study mathematical subject around the world.
1.Introductions
However; the recorded history begins with the Rhind Papyrus from Egypt and clay tablets from
Babylon, which describe the basic mathematical operations that include an unknown variable, then
it passed to India where written records in Sanskrit show that the Indian were already describing
verbally what seems to be the description of unknown variables. Next the recorded history passed
to the Greeks, where Diophantus published the b books that describe the syncopated algebra which
are considered to be the basis of all algebra used and studied by European mathematician.
Moreover; it was in Europe where the recorded history of the algebra really was taken to the next
level. The lead was taken by Fibonacci with is book liber abaci, who added the application of

Why I Am A Liberal Arts Education
A liberal arts education encourages freedom by allowing students to grow individually and
academically. Before I read the summer reading packet, I did not know this. By reading the
packet, I understand what it means to be liberally educated at Loras College. The freedom and
growth that I will experience through the liberal arts at Loras will allow me to become better
rounded as an individual. Because of this, I will have learned how to be a critical thinker and
learner, see the whole picture of why I am learningwhat I am learning, and connect and use what I
have learned to other aspects of life. I believe that through the liberal arts I will learn how see
deeper into what I have learned, know the true reason of why I am learning what I am learning,
expanding my knowledgeby having a well rounded education, and use that in real world situations
to better myself and society. Throughout my educational experience, I have been presented with
different educational and social challenges that I have had to overcome to prepare me for where
I am at now at Loras College. My family has moved to different towns and school districts several
times during my 13 years of education. We moved because of my father s occupations in school
administration. By starting as a teacher then moving up the ranks to being a principal, and
eventually becoming a superintendent, my father has shown me the true meaning of achieving a
goal and understanding why my family is where we are at today in

Foils In Sophocles Antigone
Stand up or Don t stand at all
In a human s lifetime someone has to stand up for what they believe in, in order to make a
difference. The Greek play Antigone, by Sophocles takes place in the city of Thebes and is about
two sisters, Ismene and Antigone, reacting to the deaths of their two brothers. Ismene and Antigone
s two brothers were at war on opposites sides of a civil war. They ended up killing each other in
combat. Since the brothers, who were supposed to be the next kings of Thebes, were dead, the
throne was passed to their uncle Creon. Creon, considering Polyneices a traitor, decides that he
will only honor the brother Eteocles. This infuriates Antigone, who decides she will honor
Polyneices by burying him, despite the law made against it. In the first scene Antigone takes her
sister Ismene outside to the private gates to talk about her brother Polyneices not being able to be
buried. They go back and forth over Antigone s choice to bury their brother. Ismene doesn t want

Analysis Of James Baldwin s The Great Gatsby
When individuals hold hatred in their minds, they will be more aggressive to others, especially
to the higher level authority. In James Baldwin s story, he is not happy with the white people s
power. He is full of the hatred. When he purposely went to the non colour restaurant, he tries to
challenge the higher levels. Baldwin writes, I pretended not to have understood her, hoping to
draw her closer ... I realized that she would never come any closer and that I would have to strike
from a distance. He wants to know why the whites are the stronger group, why the whites can
destroy his hopes. However, when he found out the whites are weaker than him but still having
more powers, he turns his hatred into violence. Baldwin writes, I picked this up and hurled it with
all my strength at her. She ducked and it missed her and shattered against the mirror behind the bar.
He is angry and being violence, and those violence comes out from his hates. When people looking
down on him, his despairs bitterness and hatred make him wantto get the respects from the higher
authority. He was waiting for the higher authority to throw him out, but the reality makes him
even more upset. Relating to the cops in the Freddie Gray, the reason of their aggressiveness is
also about getting respects. The policemen who worked at inner city will afraid of local

How Lewis Structures Are Constructed
Lewis Structure shows how atoms in a covalent bond share electrons. Dots are used to show lone
pairs of electrons, and lines symbolize bonds. This essay will explain how Lewis Structures are
constructed.
The first step is counting how many valence electrons there are. Determine the number of electrons
that are in the outer shells of each atom. For example, H2O has 6 valence electrons in oxygen and 1
in hydrogen. Therefore, there are 8 total since there are two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom.
Non valence electrons are not expressed.
Next, write the symbols for each atom and connect them with single bonds. The order of the atoms
in the formula usually shows connectivity. HCN is written H C N in its Lewis Structure. If there
are only two types of atoms, the central atom is usually written first and has lower electronegativity.
After writing symbols and connecting elements with single bonds, complete the octets of
surrounding atoms with lone pairs. The octet rule states most atoms bond so that every atom has
eight electrons in its outer shell to gain stability of the Noble gases. CF4, for example, has all
single bonds and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nitric oxide is an example of this with eleven electrons in its outer shells, and nitrogen ends up
with only 6 valence electrons. Another molecule that violates the rule is one that does not need
eight valence electrons. For example, in H2O, the hydrogen atoms only need two electrons
around them instead of eight. One other example of a violation is when molecules have extra
electrons. SF4 is an example as sulfur has a lone pair and four covalent bonds, which gives it 10
valence electrons. This is only possible with atoms that are in the third row of the periodic table or
lower with unfilled d orbitals. Therefore, exceptions can only occur in molecules that have odd
numbers of electrons or with atoms that have only the first energy level or empty

Dante s View On The Existence Of Hell, Purgatory And...
Who is Dante? He was a man that had a desire to find the truths of heaven and earth even from a
very young age; his goal was to understand the three worlds in his mind of hell, purgatory and
paradise so that he could find the true everlasting happiness. In Dante s age there was not really
a separation between church and state. Dante s philosophical view was also a political view. In
Dante s time, there were two major political factions, the Guelphs and the Ghibellines.
Originally, the Ghibellines represented the medieval aristocracy, which wished to retain the
power of the Holy Roman Emperor in Italy, as well as in other parts of Europe. The Ghibellines
fought hard in this struggle for the nobility to retain its feudal powers over the land and the
people in contrast, the Guelphs, of which Dante was a member, were mainly supported by the
rising middle class, represented by rich merchants, bankers, and new landowners. The enemy
was politically, philosophically, and theologically wrong and thus a Heretic He was a supporter
of the papacy which was a direct opposition to the Holy Roman Emperor, therefore putting
himself in danger of his beliefs. What did he believe? He believed in the salvation which started

Celie Passage Analysis
This passage is very important because it helps to show us the condition Celie is in. She had
another child then her Pa gave it away. He insults her multiple times. Based on what has
occurred she hasn t tried a way to make her situation better. It seems like she don t care too much
what happen to herself but she cares for the well being of her siblings especially Nettie since Pa has
begun to take a liking to her. When Nettie was scared Celie told her I ll take care of you. With God
help.(3.1 2) This shows the extension of lovethat the Nettie and Celie share as well as her faith in
God. Her love for Nettie and God get s her through life.
This passage is important because it shows us Celie s sexuality. One day Celie get s beat
because she supposedly wink at a boy at church but she tries to tell her Pa she don t look at men
but women because she is not scared of them. This shows us that Celie probably has a love
interest in women due to the physical trauma she has experienced with her Pa. Later on in the

Descriptive Experience Essay
A bright array of lights dotted the dark landscape beneath the plane where I sat It was late,
around midnight, and the day had stretched beyond measure beginning with customs in the
Atlanta airport. About 1:30 a.m. we landed in the airport at San Jose International Airport. I was
exhausted but the beauty of the landscape would be only a shimmer of what was to come. The
second I stepped off of the plane I felt anxious and hot, very hot. This being my first time outside
of the United States was a completely new experience and everything was foreign to me. After
we retrieved our bags from the baggage claim we headed out and were promptly picked up by a bus
which carried us out of the city of San Jose, Costa Rica through mountains and jungle and
delivered us to our cabins where we would be staying for the week. After a combined sixteen hours
of travel we were here. As we stood on top of what seemed to me to be a mountain overlooking the
city I was taken aback I have never seen anything like it. It was amazing. The next morning we
woke up as early as 5:00 a.m. to get ready for what was to be a long day. Each morning we would
travel to a church where we would hold a worship service and eat breakfast, after each breakfast
and worship service we would go off to our respective places where we would work with a
construction team building a basecamp for the ministry we were helping or we would go out and

Adoption Consequences
Adoption and its Consequences for an Adopted Child
Kristiane B. Fallarcuna
Adoption is a good option for parents who can t secure the future of their children and for people
who long to have children to take care as their own. It can be a saving ground for unwanted
children and for parents who can t afford to keep their children. There are lots of successful adoption
cases and that children with their adoptive parents had happy and loving relationship with one
another. However, there are possible consequences for the adopted child which include lack of
genetic and biological information, feeling of rejection and lowered self confidence and self esteem.
Most adopted children have totally loss contact with their biological parents so it is hard for them
to check some important biological and genetic information. They have no easy way of knowing
what kind of diseases or traits can be genetically transferred to them so they can prevent it earlier.
This consequence can highly affect the medical history of the adopted child which is very
important in improving the healthy lifestyle. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For many especially those who were never treated differently by there adoptive parents, such feeling
can be overcome easily but unfortunately for some, it takes lifetime to overcome.
Another consequence of adoption for an adopted child is the lowering of self confidence and self

experiences such issue but the authentic love, concern, trust, and care of the adoptive parents play
an important role in giving their children normal and happy

Six Sigma And Total Quality Management
Abstract
This paper is an analysis of the three published journals on Six Sigma model. This literature review
discusses about the different parameters which are used in implementing a successful Six Sigma
methodology. Kamran Moosaa* and Ali Sajidb (2010) made a study on critical analysis of Six
Sigma implementation. Six Sigma is known as a method, metric or a programme. It follows a
DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improvement, and Control) process. The other articles state
that how teamwork and process management are beneficial for Six Sigma implementation in an
organization. Hence, this literature review evaluates that Six Sigma is better in pursuing
continuous improvement in customer satisfaction, increasing profits, and in overall business
strategy when compared to other Total Quality Management tools.
Comparison between Six Sigma and Total Quality Management tools
Have really Six Sigma took a place over other Total Quality Management tools in continuous
improvement of all processes in an organizations? Six Sigma has become a popular methodology
ever since it was first introduced by Motorola in the US during the 1980s (Kamran Moosaa* and
Ali Sajidb, 2010). It started gaining popularity once case studies from companies like Motorola,
GE, and Allied Signals started spreading across the globe. In a short span of time, Six Sigma
found its place amongst the CEOs and quality managers of companies in the late 1990s. Six Sigma
is an improved version of quality

Media Censorship Affects The News You See

blocks the information from reaching you. It talks about the act of censorship and how it can be
seen when a person s private information is concealed, graphic details and images are kept
hidden, hiding political bias viewpoints, etc. This is a start to a dystopian society, as news
programs have the control and power to change real information with false facts, leading the public
to believe lies. This can be seen in a more extreme manner in the novel Fahrenheit 451by Ray

Code of Conduct in the Workplace
What do we think about when we hear the words code of conduct? There will be a lot of
difference of opinions from different individuals, but I think it is basically what an organization
expects from its members. Almost every organization, whether it be a Fortune 500 company, a
small restaurant chain, bar, or even a fraternal order, they all have expectations of how each of its
members or employees should act among each other and when dealing with customers outside the
organization. Most of these principles will be set forth by an organization in their Code of
Conduct which will most likely have to be reviewed and signed by you before becoming an
employee of the company. Most organizations will impose some type of penalty for those... Show

These are most definitely significant because under federal law, they must implement these into
their normal daily business practices. All employees must understand them and acknowledge them
by usually singing a written statement that goes on file in their employment record. Chipotle like
most organizations prohibits unlawful discrimination, harassment, and sexual harassment in the
workplace. And in most places, if an employee is found to have participated in one of these acts,
they will be disciplined up to and including termination from the organization. Chipotle believes that
abiding by these rules and values due to the fact that they make good business sense and are most
definitely the right things to do!
Most organizations will tell you it is hard to ensure that employees are following the code of
conduct without relying on word from someone that might have witnessed the violation. In the
case of Chipotle, they could install cameras in their restaurants to help monitor the day to day
activity of their employees. They could offer the employees surveys to see how the management
team is doing around them and ask them certain questions about the code of conduct policies to
see if they feel someone is in violation of them. It is hard in a business of fast food to always
watch each employee and how they act around each other and the customers. The managers and

The Issue Of Gay Marriage
Gay marriage, something that has increasingly been on the news, is talked about in chapter five.
Lambda Legal Defense eve talks about how they will enforce gay marriage through the
manipulation of the courts. The whole trend started in 1996 in Hawaii, with a ruling there saying
theres no reason to ban gay civil marriages. The biggest problem, is that this is not the job of the
Supreme Court Justices to decide, but elected representatives. In 20 years, the Supreme court has
decided in two cases addressing constitutionality of state sodomy in Bowers v. Hardwick and
Lawrence v. Texas. In Romers v. Evans, it ruled on a state constitution amendment. William F.
Buckley wrote a response where in summary he is declaring the Supreme Court has no right to
be in the bedroom of Americans. Having government involved in any personal matter is
hazardous. The debate over which branch of government gets to decide how, when, and why it
can be there(Levin.73) this is saying that the government will enforce themselves in our privacy
on other issues besides gay relationships and contraceptives. New York times ran an article
talking about sodomy laws, and how they are rarely enforced due to not being able accurately
prove anything, and also the time it would take to search for violators. In Bowers V. Hardwick an
Atlanta police officer went to Hardwick s house with a warrant for ticket violations, and found
Hardwick with another man in his bedroom. Hardwick was put in jail for 12 hours, with the

Physics Behind Modern 4 Stroke Engines Essay
We ve all seen them before, the mysterious chunks of metal under the hoods of our cars. They start
when we turn the key and take us where we want to go. But how does an engine work? Internal
combustion engines are a very important part of everyday life. We use them in our cars, trucks,
airplanes. boats, snowmachines, 4 wheelers, and heavy machinery. These pages will help
familiarize you with the basic concepts of how an engine works, an understanding of engine output,
and some information on how forced induction or boost increases power output.

The chemical equation is as follows.
2 C8H18 (gas) + 25 O2 = 16 CO2 + 18H2O
This equation is representative of a stoichiometric air fuel ratio (14.7:1). However under normal
driving conditions an engine will encounter lean conditions when cruising on the highway (better
milage) and rich conditions when accelerating (better power). The lean condition results in oxide
and harmful nitrogen compound production. Rich conditions result in carbon monoxide production.
For this reason a catalytic converter is used on most larger engines.
The catalyst material in a cat is in a wire mesh or honeycomb. This allows a high surface area to be
exposed to the passing exhaust gasses. The catalyst (typically platinum) converts the harmfull
nitrogen oxides and carbon monoxide into nitrogen, carbon dioxide, and oxygen. Catalytic
converters work best when warm (as the reaction rate increases with temperature) so some car
manufacturers are putting pre cats in the exhaust manifold to convert the gasses while the exhaust
system is still warming up.
That covers the basic function of an engine fron intake to exhaust. Next we will explore the
relationship of Horsepower vs Torque.
Engine output is measured in two ways. The first is a direct measurement of engine output: Torque.
Torque is defined as the amount of mass that can be lifted a certain distance from the center of

the last 55 years regarding this incident. Many people claim there is a conspiracy behind the case,
allowing various conspiracy theories to emerge over the years. One specific theory is about how
the mafia was involved with JFK s assassination.

It also concluded that Jack Ruby worked alone when he assassinated Oswald.
Lee Harvey Oswald, the assassin, was caught at a movie theatre. Before he could be questioned,
Oswald was shot by Jack Ruby, nightclub owner, in the basement of the Dallas Police
Headquarters, while being led to a car, which was to transport him to the local county jail. This
left the case unsolved as Oswald was not questioned properly. Ruby claimed he was distraught
about the President s death and that he did not want Mrs Kennedy to go through pain at the trial
of Oswald, which was his reason for killing Oswald. This raised questions as Ruby was seen with
Oswald various times, proving that Ruby and Oswald were acquaintances, and that Ruby may have
had another motive for killing Oswald.
Ruby owned The Carousel, which is where Oswald was seen a few days before the
assassination. Bill Demar, one of the MCs at The Carousel, identified Oswald as a regular patron
at the place. Other workers at The Carousel supported this argument including Harvey Wade,
Wally Weston, Janet Conforto and Beverly Oliver. Oliver confirmed that she had once seen
Conforto, Ruby and Oswald sitting together. She was then introduced to Oswald by Ruby as his
friend . Oswald also had many connections to the Mafia, especially crime boss, Carlos Marcello.

The New Vice President Over Administrative Affairs At...
The new vice president over administrative affairs at Sweetwater State University, Rob Winchester,
has been tasked with improving and developing a new appraisal system used to evaluate secretarial
and clerical performance at the university (Dessler, 2015, p. 287). Rob s initial memo to the
administrators instructed that in the future, no more than fifty percent of the secretaries under each
supervisor could receive a rating of excellent on their annual performance appraisals. Immediately,
this memo caused turmoil within the university with both the secretaries and managers. The
secretaries were worried this new system was unfair and reduced each secretarys chance of
receiving a maximum salary increase (Dessler, 2015, p. 287). Additionally, the managers were
concerned they would begin losing secretaries to more lucrative jobs. With all of this at hand,
Rob called on several performance appraisal experts within the university to find a viable solution
to the task at hand. Rob and the experts needed to make several decisions regarding the graphic
rating system and the strategy moving forward to make any changes to the current performance
appraisal method. This paper will present possible solutions to the appraisal issues Rob and his
team were tasked correct.

As spring approaches, the citizens of the rural, southwest town I call home prepare empty plots

her garden months in advance, orders the fertilizer, and preps the tiller, all before the snow has

Climate Change and Life Expectancy
The current rate of at which the world is being affected by climate change; one may be convinced
to believe that the earth will not be able to be inhabited by any other generation. The perfect
clarification of these claims has been the reduction in the life span and the increase in the number of
diseases that are actually attacking human beings all because of climatic change. The impact of
climate change has been felt and this has had a negative impact on the lives of animals and human
beings (Baker, Judy World Bank., 3). There has been a huge debate on whether climatic change is
responsible for the decline in the life expectancy among human beings as well as animals. This

This is means the depletion or destruction of this natural resources means the end of the life for this
countries hence the increase in the rate of complacency. The point also explains why developing
country usually relies on foreign aid as means of sustaining their own economies.
Initially animals used to have very long time span in that goats or even cattle could stay for
years and yet they are still very productive. This has certainly changed as result of climatic
changes. The animals used to live longer as a result of cold temperatures that used to slow down
their rates of metabolism hence the longer life span. Temperatures today are very high as a result
of climatic changes. The increased temperatures have actually led to increase in the metabolic
rate of the animals hence the reduction in the life span. This explains why animals today cannot
even live for more than five years and then remain productive all along as animals could live for
a whole decade but still remain very productive. It is believed that the presence of favorable
climatic conditions usually increase the life span of animals or even plants by more than 20
percent. This is very reason the people back in the 1700s all the way to the late 1800s used to live
long and they were not really exposed to the kind of diseases that people are currently exposed to

Archetypes In The Hero, The Mentor, And The Shadow
In The Hobbit, there are a variety of characters that play vital roles in the story. While this novel is
filled with many diverse characters, some have specific roles to play. These can be categorized into
archetypes. Archetypes describe the functions that people or items play in a story. Seven of these
archetypes exist, and three of them stand out in The Hobbit. The Hero, The Mentor, and The
Shadow are necessary archetypes that can be found in The Hobbit, and three characters fit these
roles perfectly. First of all, the archetype, The Hero, is represented by Bilbo Baggins, and for this
archetype, they sacrifice themself for the service of the journey. They grow and learn during this
time. For example, in chapter three, the text states, He was thinking once again of his comfortable

He provided Bilbo with help with his magic, and protected him. An example can be found in
chapter six, when Gandalf states, Up the trees quick! (The Hobbit, page 109). Gandalf told
Bilbo what to do. Then he commanded Bilbo to get up the trees, an order that saved his life. As
well, in chapter seven, the the wizard explains, I always meant to see you all safe (if possible)
over the mountains (The Hobbit, page 125). Hence, this quote proves that Gandalf always looks
out for Bilbo Baggins, and gives him insight to help him. One more piece of evidence can be
found in chapter seven, when Gandalf exclaims, Don t be a fool Mr. Baggins if you can help it;
and in the name of all wonder don t mention the word furrier again as long as you are within miles
of his house, nor rug, cape, tippet, muff, nor any other such unfortunate word! (The Hobbit, page

Qfd3 Case Study
Qfd1 (labeled as Qbws1 on the chart) was found at River Mile 189.5 preserved between a Black
Ledge lava dam remnant and a basalt flow. The base of the deposit was 110m above the current
river level while the top of the deposit was 170 m above the current river level. The clasts were
92% basalt and had identical Rare earth element (REE) patterns, which indicated that they came
from the same lava dam source. The clasts ranged in size from hyaloclastite ash and lapilli to a 6
m diameter limestone boulder. Based on age and pattern of REE, Qfd1 deposits seemed to have
correlated with the dam produced by the Upper Prospect lava flows (Fenton et al. (2004)). While
the Toroweap Dam correlated in age to Qfd1, its REE pattern did not align in a parallel... Show

It was composed primarily of gravels, basalts, and glass. The basalts and glasses in Qfd3 did not
seem to be related based on the La/Sm ratio while their Gd/Lu ratios were somewhat similar.
Qfd3 deposits were complicating in correlating to a specific dam to the fact that the presence of
extralocal river gravels and quartz in the lower parts of the deposition could indicate two
separate flooding events. One correlation is with the Whitmore Cascade because its La/Sm and
Gd/Lu was similar to the REE pattern of Qfd3 s boulders. Another idea is that the failure of the
Toroweap Dam could have emplaced the existing outburst flood deposit thus explaining the
presence of extralocal gravels. The hypothesis with the most consistent result is that the failure of
a lava dam near the Whitmore Cascade reworked the previous Qfd3 deposit and deposited
boulders and cobbles from the Whitmore Cascade on top of Qfd3 glasses. This hypothesis is
consistent with the REE chart thus this explanation is seen as a strong candidate. Qfd4 deposits
overlie Massive Diabase Dam remnants, Whitmore Cascade flow remnants, and a lava dam
remnant between River Miles 189.5 and

The Case Of Murphy Vs Brentwood District Council
The fundamental principle with respect to latent damage was already set out by Lord Bridge in
a well known case of Murphy vs Brentwood District Council (1991) 1 AC 398 that if a builder
builds a structure that comprises a latent defect which later causes the injury to person or any
damage to other property, he will be liable in tort. However, if the latent defect just damages the
building or system itself and can be repaired at a cost, then that loss will be purely economic loss
and cannot be recovered in tort. Before the Murphy vs Brentwood case it was thought that one
element of a building could be considered as distinct from another element, so that damage to one
part of the structure/element caused by an unseen defect in another part... Show more content on

How then again sublet work to sub subcontractor Southern Insulation for the installing the
insulation of chilled water pipes. Linklaters got collateral warranties from Main contractor and
subcontractor which were supported with guarantees from their respective companies, but no
warranties were provided by from Southern. There was no written proper contract between How
and Southern instead there was just a small paper work. McAlpine received complete indemnity for
any breach of sub contract. The restoration works were completed in 1996 and after their
completion by the other contractors Linklaters moved into the building.
In June 2006, a leakage found on one of the chilled water pipeline and thorough investigation
revealed the extensive corrosion of chilled water pipeline in the premises. Linklaters after advice
from an expert replaced the corroded pipeline throughout the building to carry on the routine works
in the building.
Litigation is the process of engaging legal action in court for resolving a dispute. The court is then
able to implement or determine one party s rights or responsibilities. In construction industry
litigation is not preferred to resolve disputes as it cost much more than alternative dispute resolution
methods and also it takes more time than other methods but in case of Linklaters there was a

The Armenian Genocide In The Ottoman Empire
Jayden: Starting in 1915, the Turkish government stimulated a plan to exterminate Armenians living
in the Ottoman Empire. Most sources agree that there were around 2 million Armenians in the
Ottoman Empire at the time of the massacre. By the early 1920s, when the manslaughter and
deportations finally ended, 1.5 million of Turkey s Armenians were deceased, with many more
forcefully removed from their homeland in the Ottoman Empire. The genocide left the Armenian
community in a wreckage , and present day Armeniais only a fragment of the size of Armenia before
the disastrous massacre committed by the Ottoman Empire.
Sam: Today, most history experts and others worldwide label this event as a genocide. A genocide
is the deliberately executing of a large group of people, most of which are of the same ethnic group
or nation. Unfortunately, the Turkish government does not acknowledge the damage that these
events had upon the people. Despite pressure from Armenians and social justice advocates
throughout the world, it is still illegal in Turkey to converse about the events that included the
Armenians during this era. Armenians were publicly humiliated and ... Show more content on

An example of this is a purple flower. The flower is a symbol that stands for God s presence during
this tough time. The forget me not flower has five petals, each of which symbolizes the five
continents, where Armenians settled after the genocide.
Madison: While there are few solutions to genocide, the best way to solve this is to create a better
situation in this massacre. An example of this would be to better educate the Armenian children
about this horrible bloodshed in hopes that what happened will not occur in the future. When
becoming educated on what s happening in the world it creates a better understanding of what is
occurring and provides solutions to prevent this in the future and not repeat

Men Working On The Bridge
Many of the men working on the bridge knew each from previous jobs around the city or
drinking at the Old Vic, the Blarney and the Commercial. Some played in the same soccer or
football league or stood next to each other at a Bulldogs games or at the cricket; there were blokes
who knew each other from school, from the neighbourhood.
Antonello hooked up almost immediately with Sam and Slav, he knew both of them from soccer
and Sam from a couple of previous jobs. They took to having all their breaks together. At
lunchtime, they sat at the same table in the lunchroom, at morning tea they took their cuppa out to
the same spot on the river and after work they settled on the same corner of the bar at the Vic.
They were the first real friends he d made in Australia. In school he had been the wog boy with
broken English, and while he was usually included when the boys played football or soccer, he
didn t get to know any of the other kids well. After he left school, working on the building sites
with Bob, he tended to keep to himself. Mostly he hung out with his brothers Joe and Vince, and
on the weekends, with some of his cousins who lived across the city in Richmond and
Collingwood but he d often felt lonely longing for friends his own age and missing his childhood
friends, the boys and girls he grew up with in Vizzini. Some of them stayed in the village, a
couple were in New York. Several were in Australia, one or two in Melbourne but he only saw
them occasionally at weddings,

Essay On Boarding Schools For Native Americans
Gabriella Rodriguez Lan History 21 History 21 Take Home Midterm 1. Boarding schools for
native americans began in 1860 on the Yakima reservation in the state of Washington. Herbert
Welsh and Henry Pancoast created the boarding school, the goal of the boarding schools were to
assimilate Indian tribes into mainstream of the american way of life . They thought using
education would be their best tool to succeed this goal. They wanted the indian people to learn
the importance of private property, material wealth and monogamous families. Reformers thought
it was necessary to civilize indian people. They felt boarding schools were the ideal way to
assimilate indian youth. The first lesson from boarding schools would be; reading, writing,
speaking and learning english. They also wanted indian youth to be individualized. The end result
would be to eliminate indian culture. Richard Henry Pratt, owned and operated one of the most
well known boarding schools, Carlisle Indian School. His motto was Kill the Indian, save the man
. He hoped indian children would not return home to their reservations, but instead become a part
of the white community. Pratt and other off reservation boarding schools took away any outward
signs of tribal life the children brought with them. Long braids were cut from the children, they
were forced to wear uniforms. They were given white names and surnames. Traditional native food
was forbidden and they had to eat foods of the white society along with

President Abraham Lincoln attended a special performance of the comedy, Our American

Clara Harris. Little did he know that a figure, armed with a drawn pistol, would step into his
presidential box and fatally wound him to appease the appetite for vengeance shared by many
Confederate sympathizers. Yelling Sic semper tyrannis, the figure scrambled to safety in the dark
of the night after tasting the short lived sweet taste of revenge, while his accomplice ran for his

Descriptive Essay About The Red Balloon
The first symbol I noticed that was important was the red balloon. I thought this was important
because, in the story it kinda came out of nowhere and it meant something. Nia was waiting for

s why it was so important. She then handed Bobby the balloon and he knew that it meant something
was about to change. Later on he found out the balloon symbolized Nia s pregnancy.
The second symbol I noticed was the wall. This stood out to me because Bobby was going to do
something to the wall that was important. Another reason this was important was because, when
he started to spray paint the wall he was having flash backs to his childhood, and his old life.

  • 2. Social Class And Gender Equality In Charlotte Bronte s... Men are sexist creatures who deserve every cruel act they have inflicted on women for centuries. So say the radical feminists of the twenty first century who follow misandry, which is the hatred of men. In fact, nineteenth century author, Charlotte Bronte, stood for the opposite as she believed in equality for all. She was against the public view that only men were allowed to be in the political and public spheres of society while women did not even own themselves. In spite of the efforts produced by feminists from the nineteenth century, misandry has created a border between these feminist s beliefs and values to the radical feminists of the twenty first century. Furthermore, Charlotte Bronte s values of social class and genderequality in Jane Eyre are perhaps in response to Abigail Adams Remember the Ladies, in which, Adam s demonstrates the issues of societal values. These issues continue to echo in Sarah McVeigh s interview with Jessa Crispin in Why I m not a feminist, where Crispin implies twenty first century feminists create a backlash in society as they result in misandry. In the nineteenth century, Charlotte Bronte experienced society s hierarchy of social class and gender stereotypes first hand. In response to society s hierarchy, Charlotte Bronte integrates her experience of entrapment in society classes through Jane Eyre by stating, a flock of white plumy birds (160). The key point Bronte emphasizes the comparison that women are like beautiful white birds ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Bend It Like Beckham Analysis Bend It Like Beckham , directed by Gurinder Chadha is a 2002 comedic sports film, based in London, England. The plot follows an athletic 18 year old girl; Jesminder Bhamra and her strict parents who detest Jess passion and love for playing soccer as it refutes their family s Indian Sikh religious morals. Jess feels a lot of pressure and guilt throughout the film as she is ultimately betraying her family, yet everyone in her team supports her, including the coach, Joe who tries to convince Jess that her parents don t always know what s best for her. In every family, there is often a distinct line between what a person wants to do and achieve, compared to what their parents and family members expect of them. This clichГ© can be easily applied to many of the characters including Tony Jess best pal, Juliet Paxton the player who suggested Jess joined the local team and Jess with their conflicts between their families. Aside from being the main character in the film, Jesminder suffers the worst conflict between her parents and family, throughout the entire storyline. Despite her parent s wishes and concerns towards Jess passion, she makes the decision to secretively continue to spend hours in the local park playing with other passionate male players whenever she could spare the time. This soon brought on an offer from a player from the local soccer team, who was amazed by Jess skills, and she soon joined the team, all without her parent s knowing. As mentioned earlier, ... • 4. Importance Of Cultural Diversity In Schools Cultural diversity has been an important topic amongst school systems for quite some time now. There have been events that have occurred in history that have aided to the discussion, whether it is positive or negative. Events that have stood out from the crowd include segregated schools that wanted nothing to do with a race outside their own and schools that were eventually integrated but not taught fairly to those amongst them. These events shaped the future for our school systems today and as educators, it is our job to learn from them ourselves as well as educate students in regards to this sensitive, very real manner. Cultural diversity covers an array of areas. Culture in itself is, that complex whole which includes knowledge, belief, arts, morals, laws, customs, and any other capabilities and habits acquired by a human as a member of society, (UNESCO, n.d.). Different senses of culture are in multitude when one takes a look at society as a whole. No two types of individuals, from different cultural backgrounds, are the same on many different levels of living much less in school learning. This area of importance begins in the classroom. For our students, cultural diversity is seen through the lens of society, which is not always clear. As the teacher, an individual has to create a socially accepted environment for each and every student that walks through his or her door on a daily basis. In doing so, as a part of a lesson we will select groups and research key ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Media Piracy Executive Summary Disney and the Pirates of the Industry I.Introduction As a global company with high interest in both the music and film industries, it is essential that Disney deal with media piracy effectively. With Internet access increasing globally, piracy has the potential to create huge financial losses for Disney. In order to adequately deal with this problem, it is necessary to comprehend the history and evolution of piracy, its impacts on music and film industries, and its effect on the development of innovative business strategies. This brief will address various issues relating to media piracy in order to make insightful recommendations. II.Factors in the Evolution of Media Piracy A major issue in business today is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another strategy enacted by the entertainment industries is the use of digital rights management systems (DRMS). DRMS are tools for the media industry to fight piracy by controlling access to and usage of digital data, essentially going beyond the restrictions of copyright law by putting additional limits on distribution of intellectual property (Fetscherin 2003). For example, the iTunes online music store encodes its music files so that they may not be illegally copied (Dela 2005). DRMS is a controversial topic, as many consumers claim that DRMS restrictions take away the benefits of the digital world (Fetscherin 2003). This represents the conflict in ideology between consumers and industries. Having said that, Disney has to preserve its competitiveness in the industry by closely following all the technological developments associated with copyright protection. As the industry shifts more and more towards online retail, the theme of copyright protection of digital files will continue to recur. The government s position in the media piracy issue is more complicated. Governments must try to appease the industries but also face the conflict of consumer interests (Harmon 2003). This involves ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Women s Conditions In The Victorian Age For many years, women have been considered inferior to men and, as a consequence, they have been subservient to men and to their own families. For instance, they had to be chaste, obedient, sympathetic, powerless, they could not go out when they wanted or dressed as they liked, but they were expected to stay at home and dedicated themselves to the education of children and to the domestic cleaning. In the history of the United Kingdom, an important period that contributed to the subsequent independence of women was the Victorian Age. During this era, we can identify three types of women: Women who belonged to the nobility class; they were educated and they had the opportunity to enjoy a luxurious life. Middle class women; one of their main goals was to marry a noble man in order ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The history of the main character, Jane, can be seen as a symbolical pilgrimage towards maturity and fulfillment (Newman 1996:475) which began in Gateshead where she lived with her evil, wealthy aunt Mrs. Reed who sent Jane to Lowood Institution, a school for poor and orphaned girls. Time passed and after eight years, Jane left Lowood and found a job as a governess at Thornfield Hall where she fell in love with the master of the house, Edward Rochester, who proposed to her; however, the day of the marriageJane found out that Mr. Rochester was already married to Bertha, who was mad and locked up in the attic of Thornfield. After that disillusionment, Jane s trip continued to Moor House, where she was said that her dead uncle left her a great inheritance, and she also decided to give a second opportunity to Mr. Rochester after hearing his voice in the wind. The history ended in Ferndean with the marriage between Jane and Mr. Rochester, who after losing his eyesight in a fire, progressively recovered it just in time to see their firstborn ... • 7. Parental Leave Natasha Watson Rikki Noel Williams Comp II 9 November 2014 Giving Birth and Back to Work, Are the Benefits Enough? According to dictionary.com parental leave is a leave of absence from a job for a parent to care for a new baby. Paternal leave can either be paid or unpaid and refers to many different types of leave including maternity, paternity, and adoption leave. Cambridge Dictionaries Online defines maternity leave as the period when a woman can legally be absent from work in the weeks before and after she has a baby and paternity leave as a period of time that a father is legally allowed to be away from his job so that he can spend time with his new baby. Although adoption leave is a type of paternal leave offered to working citizens, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is an excellent option as it would allow parents to take paid leave but there are also many disadvantages to this approach. First, some employees, especially if they are new, often accumulate very little sick or vacation time. If someone is earning four hours a pay period and there are 26 pay periods in a year, they would only accumulate approximately 13 days of leave. If they accrue sick leave at the same rate, that would give the employee a total of 26 days of paid leave, not even a month. Adding in a typical 10 federal holidays, an employee would have approximately 36 days for which they could take leave and be paid for which does not provide adequate income for an employee who has chosen to take the full 12 weeks of leave offered by FMLA. Using up all of one s leave can also create issues. If the employee catches the flu but has used up all of their leave, they will have to take leave without pay. If the employee has more than one child and that child becomes ill, they will not have to take leave without pay in order to stay home and nurse the child. This leave without pay could be covered under FMLA but if all of the benefits were used up during paternity leave, their position could be in jeopardy if they needed to take leave without pay for unforeseen reasons. Using holiday pay could prove to be difficult because employees may not always get ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Minnesota Timberland Case Study Minnesota is the United States 12th largest state, spanning 86,939 miles. The state is home to around 5.4 million people, with around 60 percent of people living within the major metropolitan areas of St. Paul and Minneapolis. Nicknamed the Land of 10,000 Lakes, Minnesota holds 11,842 lakes of over 10 acres, leading to diverse ecosystems and the division of Minnesota s territory into distinct biomes that impact agricultural output and general land use. Agriculture dominates Minnesota s landscape, covering 46.7 percent of total land. The 2012 Census of Agriculture conducted by the United StatesDepartment of Agriculture (USDA) reported a decrease in the number of farms from 2007 to 2012, but an increase in the acreage per farm and a large... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Forests cover 31 percent of total land in Minnesota, with 15.9 million acres classified as timberland, While most homes are now fueled by hydrocarbons and fossil fuels, Minnesota timber is harvested for several different purposes, including pulp and paper production as well as lumber for housing. Among these trees, the Aspen species dominates the market with 61 percent of Minnesota s total timberland cover. Private owners control 47 percent of the total timberland in Minnesota. The remaining 53 comes from a combination of federal, state, and local governments (Minnesota Department of Natural Resources 2012). According to the von Thunen model, timber would have to be in close proximity to a market in order to provide fuel for populations. In a modern perspective, however, timber forests, both private and state owned are isolated away from society in areas with sparse populations. Thus, forests and timberland may now be considered wilderness and potentially agree with the von Thunen model, as they exist far from the confines of the city center. According to the University of Minnesota land economics dataset, timberland values in closer proximity to the St. Paul Minneapolis metropolitan area, specifically in Atkin County eclipse those of St. Louis County to the north. St. Louis County s timberland is priced at $1,039 per acre, while Atkin County is priced at $1,329 per acre. Each of these counties hold large amounts of timberland acreage, but Atkin may hold an advantage in land prices due to its location closer to the city center. Another factor that may contribute to this difference in land prices is the relative abundance in acreage and size of St. Louis County in comparison to Atkin. Sparse population density and a larger number of trees in the area would increase the supply of timber in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Montgomery Bus December 1, 1955 was a day that I will never forget because it marks the anniversary of the Montgomery bus incident. On that date, I had gotten on a city bus to head home after a long day working at the tailor shop, and I was later arrested. At this point, my mind was focused on why equality is deserved and how I should defend my spot on the bus. I had been sitting in a seat in the back half of the bus where I was supposed to go. During a certain point in the ride home, there had been an excess amount of people getting on compared to the usual 5 10 passengers. Therefore, some of us blacks had been told to give up our seats to the white peoplewho deserved it more. Me, being African American was one of the lucky ones who was told to let... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was a normal day, and I was at work until I had to go. Then everything took a turn once I had sat down on the bus and was asked to give up my seat to a more deserving person than I. The way I reacted was by deciding that standing up for myself was the best way to go. So, I stayed on the bus until the bus driver had called the police to come and get me. They eventually had shown up to where I was on the bus and handcuffed me, and I was then arrested sitting in a cop car. At the start of the day, I had foreseen a nice, normal day without having big problems to worry about such as this one. As soon as this had all happened, and I was arrested and put in jail, my whole day was turned around. This being said, jail was a very different experience compared to everyday normal routines. It was so isolated, and you were put in a cell with very little places to sit or things to do. Jail was not a place I would call nice, but once you re there, you start to think about what you did to end up there in the first place. Even with those thoughts, I still had the gut feeling, wondering why segregation was a rule that had to be made. The idea of separating people for the color of their skin was just a way of discriminating race against people. Many African Americans were living in poverty and ended up in desperate need for simple, everyday items because they weren t allowed to have good jobs to pay for those costs. I myself grew up in a family where everyone, no matter what the age, as long as you could walk and talk, had to work a job to earn money. There were times in my life, when my family and I barely had enough to keep our house. This just goes to show that everyone matters, and nobody should have to live in ... The impulse causes the muscle membrane to have a charge which then makes the calcium ions leave from the sarcoplasmic reticulum. Fighting for the homeland means fighting for freedom, but how can men defend their country against enemies if they lack of the ability to fight? Conscription is strategy that utilized by nations to assemble a large and powerful military, prepared to be deployed in times of war or when the need to ensure the power of the state emerges. Mostly, conscriptionis for male and in some cases and some countries have also for women, and usually begins as soon as the end of the study; at the age, 18 years old. Most people maintain that serving the community should be voluntary, and each individual has the absolute freedom to join or not to join the military service. However, it is argued that military service builds individual personality and improves his skills in combat and defense, so there is no rational reason not to make conscription mandatory. A person s character changed for the better during his service in the military. To begin with, mandatory service teaches the person self discipline. Michael Anthony, an author who served in US army, writes in his article, What the Military Teaches About Self Discipline, that discipline must be ground into conscript. He needs to gain physical strength, perseverance, knowledge, and courage, n.d. It will show that it started it developments from the basic arithmetic operations that first were used to solve simple addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division and how it went incorporating more operations that permitted it to solve problems that involve abstract concepts. It will show that the recorded history begins mostly with the Egyptian papyrus, and how it went passing from one civilization. Before I read the summer reading packet, I did not know this. By reading the packet, I understand what it means to be liberally educated at Loras College. The freedom and growth that I will experience through the liberal arts at Loras will allow me to become better rounded as an individual. Because of this, I will have learned how to be a critical thinker and learner, see the whole picture of why I am learningwhat I am learning, and connect and use what I have learned to other aspects of life. I believe that through the liberal arts I will learn how see deeper into what I have learned, know the true reason of why I am learning what I am learning, expanding my knowledgeby having a well rounded education, and use that in real world situations to better myself and society. Throughout my educational experience, I have been presented with different educational and social challenges that I have had to overcome to prepare me for where I am at now at Loras College. My family has moved to different towns and school districts several times during my 13 years of education. We moved because of my father s occupations in school administration. The Greek play Antigone, by Sophocles takes place in the city of Thebes and is about two sisters, Ismene and Antigone, reacting to the deaths of their two brothers. Ismene and Antigone s two brothers were at war on opposites sides of a civil war. They ended up killing each other in combat. Since the brothers, who were supposed to be the next kings of Thebes, were dead, the throne was passed to their uncle Creon. Creon, considering Polyneices a traitor, decides that he will only honor the brother Eteocles. This infuriates Antigone, who decides she will honor Polyneices by burying him, despite the law made against it. • 18. How Lewis Structures Are Constructed Lewis Structure shows how atoms in a covalent bond share electrons. Dots are used to show lone pairs of electrons, and lines symbolize bonds. This essay will explain how Lewis Structures are constructed. The first step is counting how many valence electrons there are. Determine the number of electrons that are in the outer shells of each atom. For example, H2O has 6 valence electrons in oxygen and 1 in hydrogen. Therefore, there are 8 total since there are two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom. Non valence electrons are not expressed. Next, write the symbols for each atom and connect them with single bonds. The order of the atoms in the formula usually shows connectivity. HCN is written H C N in its Lewis Structure. If there are only two types of atoms, the central atom is usually written first and has lower electronegativity. After writing symbols and connecting elements with single bonds, complete the octets of surrounding atoms with lone pairs. The octet rule states most atoms bond so that every atom has eight electrons in its outer shell to gain stability of the Noble gases. CF4, for example, has all single bonds and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nitric oxide is an example of this with eleven electrons in its outer shells, and nitrogen ends up with only 6 valence electrons. Another molecule that violates the rule is one that does not need eight valence electrons. For example, in H2O, the hydrogen atoms only need two electrons around them instead of eight. One other example of a violation is when molecules have extra electrons. SF4 is an example as sulfur has a lone pair and four covalent bonds, which gives it 10 valence electrons. This is only possible with atoms that are in the third row of the periodic table or lower with unfilled d orbitals. Therefore, exceptions can only occur in molecules that have odd numbers of electrons or with atoms that have only the first energy level or empty ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He was a man that had a desire to find the truths of heaven and earth even from a very young age; his goal was to understand the three worlds in his mind of hell, purgatory and paradise so that he could find the true everlasting happiness. In Dante s age there was not really a separation between church and state. Dante s philosophical view was also a political view. In Dante s time, there were two major political factions, the Guelphs and the Ghibellines. Originally, the Ghibellines represented the medieval aristocracy, which wished to retain the power of the Holy Roman Emperor in Italy, as well as in other parts of Europe. The Ghibellines fought hard in this struggle for the nobility to retain its feudal powers over the land and the people in contrast, the Guelphs, of which Dante was a member, were mainly supported by the rising middle class, represented by rich merchants, bankers, and new landowners. The enemy was politically, philosophically, and theologically wrong and thus a Heretic He was a supporter of the papacy which was a direct opposition to the Holy Roman Emperor, therefore putting himself in danger of his beliefs. This literature review discusses about the different parameters which are used in implementing a successful Six Sigma methodology. Kamran Moosaa* and Ali Sajidb (2010) made a study on critical analysis of Six Sigma implementation. Six Sigma is known as a method, metric or a programme. It follows a DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improvement, and Control) process. The other articles state that how teamwork and process management are beneficial for Six Sigma implementation in an organization. Hence, this literature review evaluates that Six Sigma is better in pursuing continuous improvement in customer satisfaction, increasing profits, and in overall business strategy when compared to other Total Quality Management tools. Comparison between Six Sigma and Total Quality Management tools Have really Six Sigma took a place over other Total Quality Management tools in continuous improvement of all processes in an organizations? Six Sigma has become a popular methodology ever since it was first introduced by Motorola in the US during the 1980s (Kamran Moosaa* and Ali Sajidb, 2010). It started gaining popularity once case studies from companies like Motorola, GE, and Allied Signals started spreading across the globe. Lambda Legal Defense eve talks about how they will enforce gay marriage through the manipulation of the courts. The whole trend started in 1996 in Hawaii, with a ruling there saying theres no reason to ban gay civil marriages. The biggest problem, is that this is not the job of the Supreme Court Justices to decide, but elected representatives. In 20 years, the Supreme court has decided in two cases addressing constitutionality of state sodomy in Bowers v. Hardwick and Lawrence v. Texas. In Romers v. However under normal driving conditions an engine will encounter lean conditions when cruising on the highway (better milage) and rich conditions when accelerating (better power). The lean condition results in oxide and harmful nitrogen compound production. Rich conditions result in carbon monoxide production. For this reason a catalytic converter is used on most larger engines. The catalyst material in a cat is in a wire mesh or honeycomb. This allows a high surface area to be exposed to the passing exhaust gasses. The catalyst (typically platinum) converts the harmfull nitrogen oxides and carbon monoxide into nitrogen, carbon dioxide, and oxygen. Catalytic converters work best when warm (as the reaction rate increases with temperature) so some car manufacturers are putting pre cats in the exhaust manifold to convert the gasses while the exhaust system is still warming up. That covers the basic function of an engine fron intake to exhaust. Next we will explore the relationship of Horsepower vs Torque. Engine output is measured in two ways. The Current Rate Of Climate Change and Life Expectancy The current rate of at which the world is being affected by climate change; one may be convinced to believe that the earth will not be able to be inhabited by any other generation. The perfect clarification of these claims has been the reduction in the life span and the increase in the number of diseases that are actually attacking human beings all because of climatic change. The impact of climate change has been felt and this has had a negative impact on the lives of animals and human beings (Baker, Judy World Bank., 3). The point also explains why developing country usually relies on foreign aid as means of sustaining their own economies. Initially animals used to have very long time span in that goats or even cattle could stay for years and yet they are still very productive. This has certainly changed as result of climatic changes. The animals used to live longer as a result of cold temperatures that used to slow down their rates of metabolism hence the longer life span. Temperatures today are very high as a result of climatic changes. The increased temperatures have actually led to increase in the metabolic rate of the animals hence the reduction in the life span. This explains why animals today cannot even live for more than five years and then remain productive all along as animals could live for a whole decade but still remain very productive. It is believed that the presence of favorable climatic conditions usually increase the life span of animals or even plants by more than 20 percent. This is very reason the people back in the 1700s all the way to the late 1800s used to live long and they were not really exposed to the kind of diseases that people are currently exposed to (Letcher, T. While this novel is filled with many diverse characters, some have specific roles to play. These can be categorized into archetypes. Archetypes describe the functions that people or items play in a story. Seven of these archetypes exist, and three of them stand out in The Hobbit. The Hero, The Mentor, and The Shadow are necessary archetypes that can be found in The Hobbit, and three characters fit these roles perfectly. First of all, the archetype, The Hero, is represented by Bilbo Baggins, and for this archetype, they sacrifice themself for the service of the journey. They grow and learn during this time. For example, in chapter three, the text states, He was thinking once again of his comfortable chair before the fire in his favorite sitting room in his hobbit hole, and of the kettle... As well, in chapter seven, the the wizard explains, I always meant to see you all safe (if possible) over the mountains (The Hobbit, page 125). Hence, this quote proves that Gandalf always looks out for Bilbo Baggins, and gives him insight to help him. One more piece of evidence can be found in chapter seven, when Gandalf exclaims, Don t be a fool Mr. Baggins if you can help it; and in the name of all wonder don t mention the word furrier again as long as you are within miles of his house, nor rug, cape, tippet, muff, nor any other such unfortunate word! • 41. Qfd3 Case Study Qfd1 (labeled as Qbws1 on the chart) was found at River Mile 189.5 preserved between a Black Ledge lava dam remnant and a basalt flow. The base of the deposit was 110m above the current river level while the top of the deposit was 170 m above the current river level. The clasts were 92% basalt and had identical Rare earth element (REE) patterns, which indicated that they came from the same lava dam source. The clasts ranged in size from hyaloclastite ash and lapilli to a 6 m diameter limestone boulder. Based on age and pattern of REE, Qfd1 deposits seemed to have correlated with the dam produced by the Upper Prospect lava flows (Fenton et al. (2004)). The basalts and glasses in Qfd3 did not seem to be related based on the La/Sm ratio while their Gd/Lu ratios were somewhat similar. Qfd3 deposits were complicating in correlating to a specific dam to the fact that the presence of extralocal river gravels and quartz in the lower parts of the deposition could indicate two separate flooding events. One correlation is with the Whitmore Cascade because its La/Sm and Gd/Lu was similar to the REE pattern of Qfd3 s boulders. Another idea is that the failure of the Toroweap Dam could have emplaced the existing outburst flood deposit thus explaining the presence of extralocal gravels. The hypothesis with the most consistent result is that the failure of a lava dam near the Whitmore Cascade reworked the previous Qfd3 deposit and deposited boulders and cobbles from the Whitmore Cascade on top of Qfd3 glasses. This hypothesis is consistent with the REE chart thus this explanation is seen as a strong candidate. However, if the latent defect just damages the building or system itself and can be repaired at a cost, then that loss will be purely economic loss and cannot be recovered in tort. Boarding schools for native americans began in 1860 on the Yakima reservation in the state of Washington. Herbert Welsh and Henry Pancoast created the boarding school, the goal of the boarding schools were to assimilate Indian tribes into mainstream of the american way of life . They thought using education would be their best tool to succeed this goal. They wanted the indian people to learn the importance of private property, material wealth and monogamous families. Reformers thought it was necessary to civilize indian people. They felt boarding schools were the ideal way to assimilate indian youth.
