Essay on Belonging, Romulus My Father
An individual s interaction with others and the world around them can enrich or limit their experience
of belonging. This statement can be readily depicted through various texts which include Raimond
Gaita s memoir, Romulus My Father and Universal Studio s 2004 film, Hating Alison Ashley. Both of
these texts involve various techniques that assist in portraying the concept of belonging to both an
environment and to relationships. Belonging is a concept that is more complex than it first appears. It
may be experienced on many levels between belonging and not belonging, be it to a family, a
friendship, a place or a surrounding environment. It is a perception that is shaped within personal,
cultural, historical and social contexts. Belonging ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This influences him to interact more with his surrounds which further enriches his belonging to the
Australian landscape.
The film Hating Alison Ashley from Universal Studios, also reveals how an individual s interaction
with others and the world around them can enrich or limit their experience of belonging to an
environment. The two protagonists both find themselves at odds with the environment throughout
different stages in the film. Erika Yuken is competent in her own way but out of place within her
community and school environment. However, it appears to be a matter of perception, Erika believes
that she is better than or different from what she actually is. This attribute makes her think that she is
above everyone and ultimately creates barriers between her interacting with her peers and in turn
belonging to her school environment. Erika and Alison both feel insecure and awkward in their school
environment, but for varying reasons. Erika assumes she doesn t belong and that she should be
someone else. Life can be lonely when you re exceptional. This reflective statement reveals that she
thinks herself to be better than others and also highlights the isolation she feels because of this
perception. At the beginning of the film a montage of photos of beautiful people, houses and wealth
are shown in conjunction with a voice over, spoken by Erika. There were very few perfect places to
grow up in, where

Abercrombie And Fitch Is Wrong
Tony Blair, a former prime minister of the United Kingdom, once said, Those who wish to cause
religious conflict are small in number but often manage to dominate the headline. What he is trying to
say is that there are not many people who want to cause a religious conflict; however, those are the
people that usually affect other people. The company Abercrombie and Fitch has been caught
discriminating people who are different from the majority of people. In June of 2015, a girl named
Samantha Elauf was discriminated against for wearing a hijab, also known as a headscarf, to an
interview to work for Abercrombie Kids. She soon discovered that she did not get the job due to her
beliefs. Elauf should have been allowed to work at Abercrombie because ... Show more content on

The company s look policy clearly states that employees cannot wear: no hats, no black clothing, no
facial hair. Women s hair should long, and nail polish is discouraged (Smith). This look policy
discourages people from applying for a job at these stores because some people would want to wear
hats, have short hair, etc. Elauf was not discouraged, but she was denied of a job at this company
because she wore a black head scarf to her interview at Abercrombie Kids. Now, Abercrombie is
starting to change its policy to allowing religious clothing/accessories and removing shirtless men at
store entrances. A justice of the E.E.O.C v. Abercrombie Fitch Stores court case, Justice Samuel A.
Alito, asked, Do you think that those people have to say, We just want to tell you, we re dressed this
way for a religious reason? We re not just trying to make a fashion statement (Smith). Samantha Elauf
should not have had to tell the interviewer that she was wearing the scarf for religious reasons. She
would have gotten the job if she had not worn the hijab to the interview, so she should have gotten the
job even with the scarf. The look policy that was established by this company discriminates people of
many races and of

World War I And The War II
World War II was a war that ended in much tragedy. There were over 60 million casualties.
Throughout World War II there was how it started, the Nazi Regime, and some of the major battles.
Much of the war was about the Germans bringing together a group of people called the Nazis. They
were under the rule of Adolf Hitler. There were two groups fighting against each other: the Axis
powers and the Allied powers. The Axis powers consisted of Japan, Italy, and Germany. The Allied
powers were Great Britain, France, and later on in the war, the United States. After World War I, the
Allied forced Germany to sign a peace treaty called the Treaty of Versailles. According to the treaty,
Germany had to give up parts of its territory, reduce its ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

was two wars fought at the same time; the European Theatre and the Pacific Theatre. Both parts were
broken down into four parts: the effect on Europe, early dominance period, turnaround period, and the
ending of the war (Jorge 1). After World War I all Munn 2 of the European countries tried to become
democratic countries, but failed to Communism. Most of their governments were unstable, weak, and
unresponsive. They also tried to start Capitalism, but their economies were experiencing depression
and extremely high inflation. The U.S did nothing to help these struggling countries because they
agreed to a policy of Isolationism (Jorge 1). In March 1939, the whole country of Czechoslovakia was
under German control. Next, Hitler wanted to take Poland. On September 1, 1939, Germany invaded
Poland. A few days later Britain and France declared war on Germany. This marked the beginning of
World War II (Woolf 25). In June 1940, Mussolini had declared war on the Allies. He already had
more than a million men in the Italian army based in Libya (Jorge 1). In neighboring Egypt, the
British Army had only 36,000 men guarding the Suez Canal and the Arabian oil fields. The Italian

Bowling For Columbine Ethos Pathos Logos
Bowling for Columbine film by Michael Moore is a film in which its central argument is that
Americans are afraid of each mainly because of the media whose goals are to put fear in the American
community. Unlike several documentaries this one is unique; this film is intended to appeal to the
audience who are against guns or are pro gun control and safety. Across this film, Moore s takes all of
the audience through an exploration of the history of guns and violence, and with the big question, we
all ask when a young adult commits a violent act, whom should we blame for this? We start off with
ethos or credibility. One way Moore shows credibility is when he not only interviewed one side of the
gun issues but both. An example would be when he interviewed victims of the Columbine massacre, a
parent of one of the victims, but also the NRA (National Rifle Association) ... Show more content on

At first, the survivors requested that K Mart stop selling handgun bullets, K Mart later announced that
they decided to discontinue the sales of gun ammunition altogether. For the next example, several
individuals might disagree that this is not pathos but when Moore s shares Tamarla Owens story.
Tamarla is the mother of the six year old boy who shot and killed the six year old girl Michaela
Roland in Flint, Michigan. Moore talks about how Tamarla was not home the morning of the incident
because she was on her three hour round trip bus journey to Oakland country, to work at her two jobs
at the mall, as part of the State of Michigan s welfare program. Pathos conveyed in two ways to the
audience; first, they are shocked, that how in the world did a six year old boy get a hold of a gun?
Moreover, the audience gets exceptionally heartbroken about the little girl s death which gave fuel to
the fire on hatred for gun

Advantage And Disadvantage Of Video Games
Playing Video Games Advantages
Introduction
There are many activities done by people to decrease their stress. One of them is playing video games.
Generally, game is an activity when people have to do something to have fun but they have to follow
the rules that have been made or they will be lost. The games that are popular among the people are
video games. Video games are a game played by people via monitor or screen and some devices. This
kind of games can be played by everyone by the ratings that have been settled.
Nowadays, many people think if video games have many disadvantages, so some of them want to
oppose it. They think if it has wasted time and money though there are many people who don t agree
with them. However, video games also have many advantages especially in health and ... Show more

whenever they want. However, playing video games also had advantages. Isabela Granic, Adam
Lobel, and Rutger C. M. E. Engels. (2014) has summarized that playing video games has four main
benefits. Those are cognitive (e.g., attention), motivational (e.g., resilience in the face of failure),

Throughout this experiment we have learned a great deal more about electricity and how it is created.
Before this was performed research was done on our materials and their functions, hoping to be more
educated on how they would help us solve our problem. We were able to make a well educated
hypothesis from our newly found information. Our prediction was that the lime would have the most
voltage because in our research we found that it has the most citric acid in it. Citric acid is modeling
the chemical energy in a battery causing the most voltage. The independent variable applied was the
type of fruit tested while the dependent variable was the voltage measured in the multimeter. Some of
the controls kept consistent were the types of nails, the type of multimeter, the DCV setting on the
multimeter, the nail placement, and the wire placement. Our hopes for the outcome of this experiment
is to have successfully created three fruit batteries and for us to compare their voltages.
Materials and Methods For the experiment gather a lime, an orange, an apple, a zinc nail and a copper
nail to model the essential parts of a battery. The zinc nail represents the negative charge while the
copper nail imitates a positive charge. To measure this energy created in the fruit an analog multimeter
was used. The procedure used is below.
Collect the materials required for the experiment.

Rhetorical Analysis Of Woodrow Wilson s Speech
World War One has ended, and the world is almost in a state of chaos because of the devastation.
Many people are turning away from religion, family, and their own country because they cannot count
on them to help or give hope amidst times of uncertainty. It is hard to believe that peace can be
achieved. Although, some governing bodies propose ideas that would help towards world peace, such
as Woodrow Wilson, they soon found out that world peace is just a dream. Wilson was the president of
the United States during World War One and guided the Allies towards victory. He is seen as an
optimist, and does want to achieve world peace. Thus, he created The Fourteen Points, in which he
gave in a speech to Congress. His speech included ways that would ... Show more content on

His credibility can come from his stance in the government and the role he played during World War
One which was helping the Allies defeat the Central Powers. Because he was the president of the
United States, one of the world s strongest superpowers, he would not be ignored when offering
suggestions. In Wilson s early childhood, he had seen the horrors of war towards the end of the Civil
War, which gives him insight into how peace could be achieved before he was interested in being
president. Wilson attended Princeton, University of Virginia Law School, and John Hopkins
University, thus giving him more credibility because he is very well educated on multiple topics (
Woodrow Wilson. The White House.). During his speech, he was very fair minded and suggested
solutions to problems that all countries faced, and not just what would benefit a single country. As an
example, Wilson believes that nations should live its own life [and] determine its own institutions ,
which backs up the statement that he wants every nation to be its own and respected by other countries
(American Rhetoric: Woodrow Wilson The Fourteen Points). The Fourteen Points speech was entirely
about peace negotiations and this allows him to show his morals throughout the speech. His morals
being that he does not want any more fighting, and he believes that the world should be a safe place
for all humans and nations to coexist with one another. In fact, Wilson and his secretary of state
wanted to base their foreign policy on moral principles rather than selfish materialism ( Woodrow
Wilson: Foreign Affairs. ). This in turn builds up his ethos because the citizens of America knows that
he follows morals that most Americans follow as

Imagine living your life on a regular day for you and BOOM! Your life is now suddenly completely

tend to make happen in your life, they affect us in many ways. In this essay i will discuss the various
elements each author uses to express the causes and effects of disasters. The author Jacqueline Adam
clearly expresses the causes and effects of disasters through the use of text structure, choice of
vocabulary and use of data and details.

One similarity between the stories the perfect storm and submerged city is both stories use some facts
in which are shown to be terrifying, by knowing this you can clearly see how horrifying being in an
natural disaster can be. In the perfect storm it states they had ship reports of thirty meter seas. That s
ninety feet. I would imagine truthfully, in retrospect that if the whole us swordfish fleet had been
caught in the center of that thing, everybody would ve gone down. We only saw, i don t know, maybe
fifty waves, max . In submerged city it states howling winds rush between new york city s skyscrapers
shattering windows and uprooting trees. A 7.6 meter (25 foot) wall of water sweepes over Lower
Manhattan, submerging the financial district and popular neighborhoods like chinatown and little italy.
Subways filled with seawater.millions of new yorkers who evacuated the danger zone can t return to
their devastated homes . Based on these details and information i can infer how serious these issues
are, just by describing the situations personally gave me chills, i mean no one will ever want to be in a
situation like that and in both texts they strongly show this. One difference between the stories the

Pros And Cons Of False Confessions
People know that false confessions are possible, however, most do not understand the severity. 66% of
people said that if a person signed a confession, they were most likely guilty (Henkel, Coffman,
Dailey, 2008). Only 11% disagreed that a person might confess to a crime they did not commit.
Furthermore, only 42% of participants said that the police might lie about the police having evidence.
Henkel, Coffman, and Dailey report an overwhelming majority of the participants claimed that they
would never confess during an interrogation. What may lead to a false confession? One major factor is
not understanding Miranda rights. Adults may have some difficulty understanding and appreciating
their Miranda rights, but have a general idea of their rights. Conversely, juveniles have a much more
difficult time comprehending their rights. The current standard for competency is a having a basic
understanding of Miranda rights (Grisso et al., 2003). However, Viljoen, Zapf, and Roesch (2007)
found that 58% of defendants ages 11 13, 33.3% of defendants ages 14 15, and 7.8% of defendants
ages 16 17 did not meet this standard. Moreover, if the defendant must also appreciate the rights, 78%
of defendants ages 11 13, 62.7% of defendants ages 14 15, and 35.3% of defendants ages 16 17 did
not meet these standards. Comprehension of Miranda rights is critical, as one may falsely confess if
they do not understand and utilize their rights. Age also changes how the juvenile responds to the

The History Of The Internet
The history of the Internet starts with the making of electronic computers in the 1950 s. After a bunch
of rabble The first concepts of the Internet were invented in the 1960 s who saw much use in allowing
computers to share information. It was mainly used for scientific and military purposes, research,
development, and sorts. J.C.R. Licklider of MIT first suggested the idea of a global network of
computers in 1962. He moved to the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency to develop the
Internet. A while later, the Internet was brought online in 1969, but was previously known as
ARPANET. It was done under contract with the renamed Advanced Research Projects Agency. At
first, It connected four major computers, which were located in different universities. The mystical
Internet was designed to provide a communications network that would still function even if some
dominant sites were down. The early Internet was used by computer experts, engineers, scientists, and
librarians. There were no personal computers back in the day, and everyone who used it had to learn
an extremely complex system. Two scores and three years ago, (1972) Email was adapted by Ray
Tomlinson. He selected the @ symbol from the available symbols on his teletype to link a username
and address. Some time later in the 70 s, the Internet developed further, thanks to TCP/IP architecture
initially proposed by Bob Kahn. In 1986 the National Science Foundation funded NSFNet as a cross

Richard A. Clarke throughout his thirty year career in national security, ten years being in the White

government and his ten years working in the White House the credibility of his accounts of each of
these Administrations has a profound contribution on political science as it provides views from not

rapidly turning the world as we know it into economic opportunity waiting to be exploited. A large
factor in this process is due to the advent of technology which is becoming more and more readily
available to lesser developed countries. Countries such as Jamaica and other LDC s are primary targets
of economic globalization. In the film Life and Debt by Stephanie Black, we see the effects
globalization has on Jamaican culture, industry, and agriculture.

milk. A memorable scene in the film was when the dairy farmers had to spill out all their surplus milk
that was only a days worth to make room for new milk since it wasn t being consumed. A dairy farm
used to produce 3,000 quarts per day and after America subsidized the milk industry, dairy farms were
producing only about 600 liters. Dairy farmers were run out of their businesses and it s sad to say but
some dairy farmers were forced to convert to butchering their cows in order to make profit (Black).
The Jamaican economy in 1970 was 800 million dollars in debt and by the time of the year 2000 the

Exosomes As A Whole Has Gained Momentum Through The Area...
The interest and research invested into the area of exosome biogenesis and the topic of exosomes as a
whole has gained momentum in the last decade (Urbanelli, L. et al. 2013). Their discovery in 1983,
detailed in two papers published in JCB (Harding et al) and in Cell (Pan and Johnstone), showed that
the nomenclature had been prescribed wrongly to a broad range of membrane vesicles that bud
directly from the plasma membrane (Clifford V. Harding. et al. 2013). When in fact the term exosome
more accurately describes small vesicles, ranging from 30 100nm in diameter (Urbanelli, L. et al.
2013), that originate via a different mechanism of budding than apoptotic bodies and microvesicles,
(Yu, S. et al. 2015).
Exosome function was initially ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Whilst exosomes have been retrieved in many body fluids, for example; blood, urine, saliva and
cerebrospinal fluid (Urbanelli, L. et al. 2013). They are recently thought to be present in all biological
fluids.
Exosome Biogenesis
Exosomes are exceptional from other types of vesicles based on a number of factors; including their
size (relatively small in comparison), morphology, cargo composition and most distinctly, their
endosomal origin (Théry C. 2002). Familiar types of vesicles such as microvesicles are formed at the
cell surface, budding directly from the plasma membrane (Alenquer, M. et al. 2015). Exosome
biogenesis follows an alternative method that begins in the early endosome (Huotari, J and Helemius,
A. 2011), whereby the ultimate result is the formation of intraluminal vesicles (IVL s) inside the
lumen of the endosome, this aggregate body is known as the multivesicular body (MVB) or the
multivesicular endosome (MVE).
Initially the early endosomal membrane, tube like in shape (Beach, A. et al, 2014), buds inwards via
intraluminal invagination (Lopez Verrilli, M and Court, F. 2013), randomly engulfing sections of the
cytosol contents such as the peripheral and transmembrane proteins. This formation of the IVL s
noticeably augments as the endosomes mature (Huotari, J and Helemius, A. 2011) and after
transformation the late endosome is more spherical in shape (Beach, A. et al. 2014). It is known

II. Main point 2: The number of benefits that social media has it truly great
A. Social media has allowed politicians to have direct contact with voters as no cost. Politicians can
tweet and retweet followers, answer questions and make the person feel special. It is free marketing. It
is much easier for campaigns across the U.S. to connect with one another. Campaigns can tailor

Is a mother a mother after she lost her child? Offred, a handmaid who is different from the other
maids. Offred is in depression, but not showing any signs of it due to the oppression. In the novel The
Handmaid s Tale by Margaret Atwood, Offred is a handmaid has not seen her daughter and Luke.
Offred demonstrates that love can lead to depression with flashbacks and point of view of not seeing
her husband Luke and her daughter whom she both utterly loved. Thoughts and memories are the only
reasons Offred reminds herself of her daughter. Offred has a daughter, since she states, She fades I can
t keep her with me (Atwood 64). Offred s flashback remembers she once had a daughter but was not
able to be part of her life. The thought of not being able to be part of her daughter s life leaves her in
melancholy. Later she thinks her daughter as a ghost who died and could not keep. Offred tells herself
[she is] the ghost of a dead girl (Atwood 64). Offred s flashback is that her daughter died, after the
birth of Gilead. With these emotional distresses, Offred is in despair and in denial of the existence of

Phones And Their Effects On Your Phone
Phones, I have one, you have one, your great grandmother has one, and possibly even your toddler
nephew too. In this day and age it s not as common to not have a cellular phone. With mobile phones
being so convenient for on the go activity it is no wonder that many people, young and old alike,
forget how to live without the use of their handheld lifeline. Just because you love your phone does
not mean that you are addicted per say, however, because you love your phone and feel like you need
it always that may be a sign that you are addicted to your phone. Signs of being addicted to your
phone can be as small as feeling incomplete without it to as great as tuning the people out around you
to be in your cellular device. Composed below are 14 signs of how you may be addicted to your
phone: 1.) Feel like you re missing out on the world around you. You feel that without your phone you
are undoubtedly missing out and are no longer in the know or loop when it is not by your side. 2.)
Constantly checking your phone. Like constantly CONSTANTLY. You need to repetitively check your
phone to see what s going on or what you may have missed. When it gets to the point that you are
checking your phone every second of every minute continually, you may just be addicted my friend.
3.) Tune out all others in social environments. When you are in classroom settings or group meetings

I. Clear Error Standard on Appeal For Subsidiary Factual Matters
A. Teva Pharm. USA, Inc. v. Sandoz, Inc., 135 S. Ct. 831 (2015) The Supreme Court held that when
reviewing a district court s resolution of subsidiary factual matters during patent claim construction,
the Federal Circuit must apply the clear error standard, not a de novo standard of review.
1. Background The owner of a patent covering a manufacturing method for a multiple sclerosis drug
brought an action against marketers of a generic version of the drug, alleging infringement. The
marketers filed counterclaims seeking declaratory judgment of non infringement, unenforceability,
and invalidity.

On the original appeal in this case, the Federal Circuit reversed and remanded the district court s
finding of indefiniteness under the premise that a claim is indefinite only when it is not amenable to
construction or insolubly ambiguous. The Supreme Court in Nautilus v. Biosig Instruments Inc. 134
S.Ct. 2120, 2124 (2014) in its decision articulated the standard A patent is invalid for indefiniteness if
its claims, read in light of the specification delineating the patent, and the prosecution history, fail to
inform, with reasonable certainty those skilled in the art about the scope of the invention.
In light of the new standard set forth by the Supreme Court, the Federal Circuit addressed only the
issue of indefiniteness on remand. The question before the court was whether the district court erred in
holding that the spaced relationship as recited in claim 1, and referring to the spacing between the
common and live electrodes, was not distinctly pointed out and particularly claimed in the patent in

his experiences while at the historic Howard University, him growing up in the Southside of Chicago,

Coates felt that the American society viewed black lives as worthless, no matter what your
background was. He saw the officer as a direct representation of America s beliefs. Coates makes it
clear that this was nothing new. The history of the destruction of the black body was rooted not just in
slavery, but in the battles of the Civil War, the Jim Crow era, police brutality, racial profiling, and the
creation and promotion of the quote on quote Dream to him. He presents the idea of being successful
as a black person, specifically a black male, in America as having to be twice as good than your white
counterparts. He paints the picture of history repeating himself because he finds it frustrating that even
though his son grew up differently than he did, he still has to fight the same fight that he himself did
as a boy his son s age. He feels as if black people want to win, they must win in their communities and
find joy in it because it is all that they have. Coates feels that even though the struggle is hard, the
struggle provides meaning to life because it gives black people something to look back on, after they

My Long Term Goals Of College Admission
Personal Statement Content
My long term goal is to pursue a career as a General Internal Medicine and complete a
Gastroenterology Fellowship. To me, this means delivering state of the art clinical care to my patients
while contributing to the evolution of medicine through education and research. I have wanted to be a
doctor since childhood. To me, being a doctor means goodness of the heart and dedication to healing.
My parents valued education and rigorous work ethics. They taught me that I could be all I wanted.
This upbringing, hard work, and commitment landed me at the top of my class throughout school.
I graduated from high school as one of the top twenty students nationwide (in a class of 2000 student).
In Sudan, the high school final examination is one of the most competitive exams and is the major
determinant of college admission. I was accepted and award a full tuition scholarship to University of
Khartoum Medical School. This is the top medical school in the country.
The beginning of medical education marked a new stage in my life. My first clinical rotation as a
fourth year medical student was Internal Medicine, where I looked after patients with a wide spectrum
of diseases. As I cared for more and more patients, my appreciation of the importance of Medicine
grew and my understanding of how I could be a part of medicine developed. Sir William Osler said, It

The Industrialization Of Rural Ireland In The 1940s And 1950s
Rural Ireland of the 1940s and 1950s was a very quiet, tranquil and peaceful region. It was very
agriculturally orientated and it was the main source of employment in this region (Wickham, 1980).
Rural Ireland was very poor and many residents had emigrated in search of work. During these
decades the Irish government used protectionist policies which created a community ideology
amongst Irish citizens (Wickham, 1980). The citizens felt a sense of control over their state. Let s now
fast forward in time and stop 20 years into the future. The region is now 1970 and Rural Ireland was
far from the poor region it was less than 20 years ago. This region was now undergoing a boom and

The Irish government took a huge risk by saying goodbye to the protectionist policies that had been in
place in the country for many years. Deciding to view the world as a market was a risk, considering it
went against the policies that led Irish people to believe they had a fraction of control over the state.
The risk paid off, with the government attracting Transnational Corporations into the rural regions of
Ireland through incentives and grants. The industrialization of Rural Ireland transformed Rural
Society. Rural Ireland, once a region occupied by agricultural enterprises, now became the home of
many manufacturing factories and the region had slowly begun to urbanize due to the increase in
Transnational Corporations in the region. Although there was conflict along the way, as can be seen by
the conflict that emerged due to a fear of pollution, this industrialization transformed the life of the
residents. Women were now given financial independence as they earned their own individual
incomes for the first time. They had escaped from the invisible handcuffs that locked them to their
homes. These women now had a new, distinguished source of power that enabled them to form their
own community ideology. A boom took off in the rural regions of Ireland, with more employment
opportunities. Migrants returned home to take advantage of these opportunities and the rural

Persuasive Essay On Belief
Belief having an affinity in believing something is true. This single word, vague, and short. As
submissive as it is, Belief tends to get on roads that it never means to. The road diverges into two, and
a choice has to be made. Manipulation passes, and it takes a hold of Belief. Without any knowledge,

belief as such a positive, hopeful word. But you are right... it is equally dangerous. Good. The basis of
belief, has been shattered explain a bit. By what? How so? . All the pieces of it have been scattered
everywhere. You can t do much with a puzzle piece if you don t know where it goes, so get ready to

Rhetorical Analysis Of Virginia Woolf
Rhetorical Analysis Essay Woolf Alanna Kellam 1B In her memoir, Virginia Woolf discusses a
valuable lesson learned during her childhood fishing trips in Cornwall, England. To convey the
significance of past moments, Woolf incorporates detailed figurative language and a variety of syntax
into her writing. Woolf communicates an appreciative tone of the past to the audience, emphasizing its
lasting impact on her life. Woolf organizes her writing using various forms of syntax which
contributes to the significance of the memory. The author s portrayal of the setting is recounted with
long, detailed sentences in order to illustrate its importance. The excitement of fishing is depicted as
Woolf retells Sometimes the lines would be handed to us; baited by gobbets cut from fish; and the line
thrilled in one s fingers as the boat tossed and shot through the water (12 15). The author includes
multiple semicolons not only to extend the sentence, but to also present similar ideas in a like
structure. Notably, the author conveys tactile imagery to support the lengthy sentences with
compelling details. The tossing of the boat and the touch of the fishing line embodies the exciting
chaos the author had felt in the past. As a result, readers are then able to understand the specific
attributes of Woolf s memory that made the experience significant. Additionally, Woolf further
develops the impact of her excitement as she describes ...and then how can I convey the excitement?
there was a little leaping tug... (15 17). Again, lengthy sentence structure helps to connect the images
of her memory. The dashes communicate to readers a sense of the author s internal thoughts, as if she
was writing all that was on her mind. The dashes outline changes in the flow of the language, so that
readers can note clearly defined shifts. They also symbolize the vividness of her memories, therefore
the significance of the events in her situation. Unique from the majority of the sentences, Woolf
includes declarative structure as she states It was a perfect lesson (25). The line stands out to the
readers, amongst the other sentences, because of its length, which is intended to convey an idea
directly. The

Role of Culture and Ikea
Introduction Company Background
IKEA furnitures, privately held, international, low cost home products are an inevitable part of interior
furnishings at many houses in the world. IKEA furnitures are marked for its modern utilitarian design.
The company has 260 retail outlets around the world and more new stores are on the line to be opened
in 2008 (Dhanyasree, 2007).
IKEA was founded in 1943 by a 17 year old Ingvar Kamprad in Smaland, south of Sweden. IKEA
formed its name from the founder s initials (I.K.) plus the first letters of Elmtaryd and Agunnaryd, the
farm and village where he grew up from a farmer to a businessman. Ingvar sold whatever he found

IKEA wants its coworkers to feel important so that they will be able to express their ideas and feel
responsible for improving the way things are done (Larsson, Brousseau, Driver, Holmqvist
Tarnovskaya, 2003). For example, on opening day of the original Stockholm store, the warehouse
could not cope with the rush of customers. The store manager suggested that they be allowed to go
into the warehouse to pick up their purchases. The result was so successful that future warehouses
were designed to allow self selection by customers, resulting in cost savings and faster service
(Bartlett Nanda, 1996).
Because it had such a strong and unique culture, IKEA preferred not to recruit those who had already
been immersed in another cultural stream. Nor was higher education necessary or even advantageous
in IKEA. The Stockholm raised, highly educated, status oriented individuals often find it difficult to
adjust to the culture of the company , remarked one executive. Younger, more open recruits not only
keep costs low, but they also absorb and amplify the enthusiasm of the company. We can develop them
quickly by delegating responsibilities early, rotating them frequently, and offering rapid promotions to
the high performers (Bartlett Nanda, 1996).
In 1976, Kamprad felt the need to commit to paper the values that had developed in IKEA during the
precious decade. His thesis, Testament

Comparing Gilgamesh And The Book Of Genesis
The Epic of Gilgamesh depicts a story about Gilgamesh, a king on earth who is two thirds god and
one third human. However, he is young and oppresses his people ruthlessly. The story takes the reader
on a journey through a series of events that ultimately leads Gilgamesh to find his true self. One
important historical event that took place is the flood, which occurs in both the Epic of Gilgamesh and
the Book of Genesis in the Old Testament. The Epic of Gilgamesh and the Book of Genesis in the Old
Testament share a great amount of similarities.
In both books, there are Gods who possess almighty powers on earth. In the Epic of Gilgamesh, Enlil,
the god of the winds, calls for a flood to end all of mankind because man was too noisy. Similarly, in
the Book of Genesis, God calls for a great flood to destroy all mankind because they were sinning. In

Compassion Fatigue: Caring for the Caregiver Introduction
Compassion represents an acknowledgement of another s suffering and is accompanied by the
expression of a desire to ease or end that suffering. (Van der Cingal, 2009, p. 124) This is a
fundamental characteristic usually found in health care workers and nurses especially. In one twelve

Physical rest, nutrition and exercise are some of these needs and if denied, the body will eventually
become too exhausted to function properly. The most common symptoms of this are fatigue not
relieved with sleep, insomnia and irritability. If left untreated, physical exhaustion can lead to physical
ailments such as dizziness, colds, headaches, chronic pain, and digestive problems and even impaired
functioning of other body systems. (Espeland, 2006, p. 180) Emotional Exhaustion
Similar to physical exhaustion, emotional exhaustion results from depletion of emotional resources
and failure to restore one s own emotional equilibrium. (Moore, 2009, p. 1) In today s busy society the
demands of life, job and family can be excessive and overwhelming. Combine these demands with the
additional stressors of caring for another person or persons, increased demands of productivity with
decreased personnel and the unrealistic expectations of one s self or others and place all of this burden
on one person, this would adequately describe the 21st century nurse. Nurses are continually engaged
in emotional relationships with patients and their families which call upon the nurse to be in a constant

Ideal Gas Formula Lab Report
Abstract: This experiment was performed to determine the molar mass of an unknown using the ideal
gas equation. The measurements needed to determine the molar mass were obtained by heating the
unknown to 90 degrees Celsius while recording the required measures such as the mass, volume, and
temperature as the unknown became a gas. Then the measurements were inserted into the ideal gas
equation PV=nRT. Using the ideal gas formula and measurements determined the molar mass was
found by rearranging the formula leaving the unknown s molar mass of ethylene glycol.
Procedure: In preparation 600mL of water was added to a beaker then an Erlenmeyer flask was placed

Dutch And Nigerian Weddings Essay
Over the last couple of weeks I have been studying the subject of Dutch and Nigerian weddings. I

that used to live in Nigeria. I have come the conclusion that Dutch and Nigerian weddings are very
different although there might be some similarities. In the paragraphs below I will elaborate on the
similarities and differences.
To start off with, engagement is crucial for a wedding to happen and the first step you take toward
getting married. Traditionally in the Netherlands you propose which means to get down on one knee

In Dutch weddings it is traditional that both parties share the price evenly. While in Nigeria it is
normal for the wedding to be paid by both families together except for the introduction. The
introduction is an informal meeting of both families. This is different because in the Netherlands the
families would already be very familiar with each other. This is because in the Netherlands the soon to
be married would already be with each other for a long time in which the families meet. In Nigeria the
bride pays for the introduction and the groom can help out with the cost if he wants to. In the
Netherlands the cost is usually pretty much always shared equally. In Nigeria there is also a tradition
of showering the bride in money for good luck. This only happens in Nigeria and not in the
Netherlands in any way. In Nigeria people tend to give money as a gift but in the Netherlands they
usually give presents. (The movie: The Mother of George, the article: Nigerian Traditional Wedding

separation anxiety, paranoia, and attention deficit disorder. The author uses pathos here, because
parents naturally care about their child s well being. Parents never want to be the cause of their child s
problem, and if there is a problem, they want to find a way to solve it. The quote is also the Ethos of

Yellow Fever Disease
Yellow fever is a disease caused by a virus transmitted by mosquitoes. It is a disease that is mostly
found in tropical areas like South America and Africa (Cutter 2016). While scientific inquiry was
certainly one of the main reasons that yellow fever became one of the first viruses that we were able to
eradicate, it was not the only driving force. A biosocial approach to dissecting global health issues not
only takes into account all the biological aspects that come into play, but also how society, history,
culture and the political economy impact these global diseases (Farmer et al. 2013). This approach
allows for a multidimensional analysis that gives more insight than any biological or clinical study

Analysis Of The Wedding At Cana
The artwork by Paolo Veronese were known for being created on large platforms and were centered on
religious topics. One notable works of his was The Wedding at Cana. This piece is a depiction of Jesus
first miracle as he turned water into wine for a wedding celebration. Based in Venice, Veronese s life
was heavily influenced by the Christian culture and was esteemed by the community and church
officials for his artistic abilities. As Veronese painted in the Mannerist style, The Wedding at Cana was
an asymmetrical painting with elegant principles. Also, Veronese heavily used vibrant colors to show
the richness of the subjects and to create light. This painting has lived through several interesting eras
and owners. Wars and political overlords dominated the geography of this painting and even damaged
the canvas. Since Veronese s style and talents were sought after, his work, religious and secular, was
mostly commissioned by patrons of the Venetian community. Veronese was a painter fond of the
Mannerist style in the High Renaissance era. As he aged, art and religion were important aspects of
Veronese s life. He fully embraced the traditions and regulations of his God and was even
commissioned because of his talent and devotion to the church. While a teenager, many church
officials in his area asked Veronese to paint important works of art in their churches. The Giustiniania
family esteemed Veronese so highly that they wanted him to paint inside of their Roman Catholic

Theme Of A Violent Prosecutor
Byung Jae wook is a prosecutor notorious for his interrogation methods, who justifies the title of the
film to the fullest. During a riot between ecologists and the police, concerning a site where a company
is to built a factory that will inhibit migratory birds, one of the ecologists hurts a policeman badly and
is arrested. Byung believes that he is actually an agent provocateur and proceeds on using his usual
methods to exact his confession. However, the next day, the prisoner is found dead and Byung is
accused for his murder, and subsequently, ends up in prison. While there, he falls victim to many of
the criminals he has previously convicted, who beat him on every chance, and if that was not enough,

Hwang Jung min is rapidly becoming the next Kang Ho song (or Choi Min shik if you prefer) with
protagonist roles in films like New World, Ode to My Father, Veteran, The Wailing, and others, due to
his prowess in acting. In this particular film, he plays a character that justifies the title from the start,
being quite violent as a prosecutor. However, his role is not much demanding, and in that fashion, he
does have the chance to show his multilayered talent. Gang Dong won (The Priests, The Secret
Reunion) on the other hand, is a former model, who owes most of his popularity to his looks rather
than his acting talent. Lee Il hyeon took advantage of the fact, drawing Chi won as a cocky ladies
man, whose beauty and charm is irresistible, and Kang delivered to the fullest, in a role that was
tailored to suit him. Furthermore, the scene that he is dancing with some older women is the funniest
in the film and the fact that he sprouts American phrases (like Hey, what s up, bro ) every chance he
gets, is also a reason for laughter. One of the film s best performances comes from Park Sung woong
(Office, The Shameless), who elaborately portrays a character that lingers between corruption for his
own merit and doing the right thing, as prosecutor

The Success Of Becoming A Millionaire
What is success exactly? There are so many different variations of how you can achieve success.
Success does not just come in a neat package all wrapped up with a bow on top, sometimes success
requires a struggle. Success can be something small or it can be something big. For example you could
consider getting an A on a test a success or becoming a millionaire a success, there are different levels
of success. One aspect of success that that has not been taken into consideration, which is in order for
you to be successful you must be happy, at least that is what I believe. Going back to the example of
becoming a millionaire, sure you may be happy about having money at first but soon having all the
money in the world will not make a difference to you. You will go day after day wishing for
something more and it probably will be something that money cannot buy. However if you are happy
with your job and how you earned the money that is a different story, you have succeeded. According
to Merriam Webster Collegiate Dictionary success is defined as the attainment of wealth, favor, or
eminence.
When I talked to Amy Strawn, who is the children s pastors wife at my church, she had a few different
definitions of what exactly success was. Her first comment was about success within her faith.
Success to me is living my life in a way that is pleasing to God. I want to impact the most people I can
for the Kingdom of Heaven. Success is sharing Jesus in a true and genuine way.

Essay on Olaudah Equiano
The Horrid Journey If it were not for the stories past down from generation to generation or the
documentations in historical books, the history of the twelve million African slaves that traveled the
Middle Passage in miserable conditions would not exist. Olaudah Equiano contributes to this horrid
history with The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano. Through this narrative, the
appalling personal experience of each slave is depicted. He accomplishes his rhetorical purpose of
informing the world of the slave experience in this narrative. His use of unique style and rhetorical
devices in this conveying narrative portray his imperative rhetorical purpose. Throughout Equiano s
works, a unique style is evident. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this, however, it depicts the complex journey of the African slaves that struggled to become equal.
In addition, Equiano s use of imagery clearly depicts the journey of the Africans slaves, such as The
closeness of the place, and the heat of the climate, added to the number in the ship, which was so
crowded that each had scarcely room to turn himself, almost suffocated us (45). Through the portrayal
of this vivid imagery, the reader can feel the distress of the slaves in which they encountered the
journey of the Middle Passage. He emphasizes his emotions, ideals, and thoughts through the imagery.
With the uses of this vivid imagery along with high diction and intricate sentences, Equiano
successfully attempts to inform the reader of the horrid journey of slave transportation. However, it is
not only his unique style alone that fulfils his rhetorical purpose of depicting the appalling slave
experience; in addition, his several rhetorical devices aid to do so. Equiano s rhetorical devices which
include ethos, pathos, and logos abet to define and accomplish his rhetorical purpose. His ethos, or
ethical assurance, is conveyed in his level of education portrayed by his sentence structure and high
diction. Furthermore, as proven in historical documents, Equiano was a slave aboard one of the many
slave ships. With this, the reader can accredit Equiano s narrative to be a reliable and first hand source
to the journey of the Middle Passage.

The Causes of World War II Essay
The Causes of World War II At the end of the First World War all the different countries such as
France, United Kingdom, United States and Germany thought that the peace would last forever.
However, as we have seen, they were terribly wrong… In 1939 a more violent and destructive war
began. This time people fought all over the world, in Asia, Europe and also in the United States (Pearl
harbour). I shall now explain what the main causes of the war were. The aggression began at the end
of the First World War, when the Treaty of Versailles was signed and Germany was forced to pay a lot
of money to France for the reparations of the obliterated cities. Their country (Germany) had to be
divided ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He wanted living space in the east and he wanted the destruction of communism. He also wanted to
expand the German ideology all over Europe. Another long term cause was the weakness of the
League of Nations. It was clearly not bound together by the strong bonds that it needed… For a start
the main super powers of the world were not in it, especially USA, and USA did begin the League of
Nations. There was clearly no chance of peace with the League of Nations, as Hitler quite easily
backed out without much question! It was far too casual for it to be a success. During 1936 to 1939,
Hitler was annexing different countries, like Austria and Czechoslovakia. Churchill was the prime
minister of the English government at the time, and he along with the French government decided not
to react, they thought that Hitler was a gentlemen (this was in fact the exact word Churchill used at
this time…!) and that he will not expand to more countries… however they were very wrong! An
important factor displayed here is that the French and English didn t want to fight again; the effects of
First World War were still on their mind… they did not want more destruction than there already had
been. At the same time Hitler was taking over more and more countries (not entire countries but parts
of them… he was using a technique he called

Viva La Vida And The Count Of Monte Cristo
While each piece of literature is completely different, some of them have similar patterns and ideas.
One of these ideas would be human nature. Human nature is anything that is natural for a human to do
and can not be stopped easily. Things like greed and too much power can change someone greatly.
This can be the cause of many problems and can make someone who is a good person into a bad
person. In Viva La Vida and The Count of Monte Cristo, the writers use of allusions and metaphors
convey the idea that human nature can be the cause of misfortune.
The story of Viva La Vida, by Coldplay, is about a king who has too much power and ends up being
overthrown from people in his kingdom. Coldplay expresses this story in metaphors.
I used ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This king had the key to the castle, meaning that he knew what the people wanted. The way Coldplay
explains this story makes it seem like the people living in the king s castle turned on him, hence the
reference to the walls closing in on himself. This king must have been hated for something he did,
then again, every human makes mistakes. Although, this must not have been the first time because he
lost his whole castle just from a mistake. Then he starts to realize why he was wrong. The downfall of
this king could have been from bragging about his power too much since it is human nature to brag.
Or possibly being overwhelmed with too much power giving his enemies a chance to attack. Another
metaphor with the same meaning can be found in The Count of Monte Cristo. The same thing that
happened to Brutus the night before the Battle of Philippi: I saw a ghost. And that ghost told me I have
lived long enough (Dumas 381). At this moment in the story, the count is preparing for his duel with
Albert. He then tells Maximilien that he plans on dying during the duel and leaving Maximilien his
will. Maximilien is shocked and asks the count why he would ever do such a thing. The count
responds with the above quote. This quote is a metaphor and shows how it is in a human s nature to
want to forget the people who you don t like. This quote uses the example of Mercedes since she was
the ghost that came to Dantes the night before the duel and begged him not to kill her son. Dantes
responds by saying that he can not live with the dishonor of backing away from a duel, so he agreed to
let Albert

Critical Thinking Research Paper
Without critical thinking, humans would be at the state that existed thousands of years ago, where
people believed everything they saw and experienced as magic, not as natural phenomena. Critical
thinking gives us the ability to form clear and rational judgments to separate what is true from what is
imaginary. It takes into account both our own internal experience and the external world. The critical
thinker is consistent, uses logic, connects ideas, judges the relevancy or irrelevancy of ideas,
recognizes and avoids preconceptions and mistakes, analyzes and solves potential problems, forms
sound arguments, and is able to explain and justify his or her own beliefs and conclusions to others.39

Thinkers at this stage recognize that they have basic problems in their thinking and make initial
attempts to better understand how they can take charge of and improve it. Based on this initial
understanding, beginning thinkers begin to modify some of their thinking, but have limited insight
into deeper levels of the trouble inherent in their thinking. Most importantly, they lack a systematic
plan for improving their thinking, hence their efforts are hit and miss.
Relevant Intellectual Traits: Naturally inherent in master thinkers are all the essential intellectual
characteristics, deeply integrated. Accomplished thinkers have a high degree of intellectual humility,
intellectual integrity, intellectual perseverance, intellectual courage, intellectual empathy, intellectual
autonomy, intellectual responsibility and fair mindedness. Egocentric and sociocentric thought is quite
uncommon in the accomplished thinker, especially with respect to matters of importance. There is a
high degree of integration of basic values, beliefs, desires, emotions, and

An Analysis of President Obama’s Remarks about Marijuana...
In a recent interview with David Remnick, a journalist from The New Yorker magazine, President
Barack Obama made some controversial remarks about legalizing marijuana. President Obama stated
that he did not think that marijuana was more dangerous than alcohol (Remnick). This comment has
caused proponents of legalizing marijuana to praise the President, while opponents are criticizing him
for seemingly supporting this banned substance. Author Frank James of NPR.org wrote an article
entitled Obama s Marijuana Remarks Light Up Legalization Debate. James explains how those who
support legalization were encouraged by Obama s comments. In contrast, an article published by
FoxNews.com entitled Taking a Hit: Anti Drug Groups Rebuke Obama ... Show more content on

The anti drug group thinks that the President is giving a picture of the medical downside of the drug
and how it is really proceed. Others feel that he is showing a laissez fair attitude for the issues dealing
with marijuana policy. Why is the president not giving a clear guidance of the issues with the drug?
What they know about the drug is that it help chemo patients with nausea and glaucoma. Some of the
anti group fear how much can the people in these two states smoke or take before they can get on the
road to drive to their destination on. A research with fox show that 64% of people are in favor for
legalization marijuana use. People often think that the president is not taking the situation seriously,
and is overlooking the topic. In addition, others think that he is going against his cabinet and the drug
policy. Not only do they feel Obama is being a hypocrite about the situation, but also they feel that the
people who are against it are too. Reading these two articles shows that both of the different parties
have a legit reason on why they do not agree or agree with the precaution the government is taking
with this topic about drugs. If I had a choice I would not legalize the drug because it causes and add
conflict to more problems we are facing in America. Also we are facing bigger problem in this country
other than drugs. However, like the articles stated when you think of drugs you think of the poor

  • 2. Essay on Belonging, Romulus My Father An individual s interaction with others and the world around them can enrich or limit their experience of belonging. This statement can be readily depicted through various texts which include Raimond Gaita s memoir, Romulus My Father and Universal Studio s 2004 film, Hating Alison Ashley. Both of these texts involve various techniques that assist in portraying the concept of belonging to both an environment and to relationships. Belonging is a concept that is more complex than it first appears. It may be experienced on many levels between belonging and not belonging, be it to a family, a friendship, a place or a surrounding environment. It is a perception that is shaped within personal, cultural, historical and social contexts. Belonging ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This influences him to interact more with his surrounds which further enriches his belonging to the Australian landscape. The film Hating Alison Ashley from Universal Studios, also reveals how an individual s interaction with others and the world around them can enrich or limit their experience of belonging to an environment. The two protagonists both find themselves at odds with the environment throughout different stages in the film. Erika Yuken is competent in her own way but out of place within her community and school environment. However, it appears to be a matter of perception, Erika believes that she is better than or different from what she actually is. This attribute makes her think that she is above everyone and ultimately creates barriers between her interacting with her peers and in turn belonging to her school environment. Erika and Alison both feel insecure and awkward in their school environment, but for varying reasons. Erika assumes she doesn t belong and that she should be someone else. Life can be lonely when you re exceptional. This reflective statement reveals that she thinks herself to be better than others and also highlights the isolation she feels because of this perception. At the beginning of the film a montage of photos of beautiful people, houses and wealth are shown in conjunction with a voice over, spoken by Erika. There were very few perfect places to grow up in, where ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Abercrombie And Fitch Is Wrong Tony Blair, a former prime minister of the United Kingdom, once said, Those who wish to cause religious conflict are small in number but often manage to dominate the headline. What he is trying to say is that there are not many people who want to cause a religious conflict; however, those are the people that usually affect other people. The company Abercrombie and Fitch has been caught discriminating people who are different from the majority of people. In June of 2015, a girl named Samantha Elauf was discriminated against for wearing a hijab, also known as a headscarf, to an interview to work for Abercrombie Kids. The company s look policy clearly states that employees cannot wear: no hats, no black clothing, no facial hair. Women s hair should long, and nail polish is discouraged (Smith). This look policy discourages people from applying for a job at these stores because some people would want to wear hats, have short hair, etc. Elauf was not discouraged, but she was denied of a job at this company because she wore a black head scarf to her interview at Abercrombie Kids. Now, Abercrombie is starting to change its policy to allowing religious clothing/accessories and removing shirtless men at store entrances. A justice of the E.E.O.C v. Abercrombie Fitch Stores court case, Justice Samuel A. Alito, asked, Do you think that those people have to say, We just want to tell you, we re dressed this way for a religious reason? We re not just trying to make a fashion statement (Smith). Samantha Elauf should not have had to tell the interviewer that she was wearing the scarf for religious reasons. Bowling For Columbine Ethos Pathos Logos Bowling for Columbine film by Michael Moore is a film in which its central argument is that Americans are afraid of each mainly because of the media whose goals are to put fear in the American community. Unlike several documentaries this one is unique; this film is intended to appeal to the audience who are against guns or are pro gun control and safety. Across this film, Moore s takes all of the audience through an exploration of the history of guns and violence, and with the big question, we all ask when a young adult commits a violent act, whom should we blame for this? We start off with ethos or credibility. One way Moore shows credibility is when he not only interviewed one side of the gun issues but both. Moore talks about how Tamarla was not home the morning of the incident because she was on her three hour round trip bus journey to Oakland country, to work at her two jobs at the mall, as part of the State of Michigan s welfare program. Throughout this experiment we have learned a great deal more about electricity and how it is created. Before this was performed research was done on our materials and their functions, hoping to be more educated on how they would help us solve our problem. We were able to make a well educated hypothesis from our newly found information. Our prediction was that the lime would have the most voltage because in our research we found that it has the most citric acid in it. Citric acid is modeling the chemical energy in a battery causing the most voltage. The independent variable applied was the type of fruit tested while the dependent variable was the voltage measured in the multimeter. Some of the controls kept consistent were the types of nails, the type of multimeter, the DCV setting on the multimeter, the nail placement, and the wire placement. Our hopes for the outcome of this experiment is to have successfully created three fruit batteries and for us to compare their voltages. Materials and Methods For the experiment gather a lime, an orange, an apple, a zinc nail and a copper nail to model the essential parts of a battery. The zinc nail represents the negative charge while the copper nail imitates a positive charge. To measure this energy created in the fruit an analog multimeter was used. The procedure used is below. It is hard to believe that peace can be achieved. His credibility can come from his stance in the government and the role he played during World War One which was helping the Allies defeat the Central Powers. Because he was the president of the United States, one of the world s strongest superpowers, he would not be ignored when offering suggestions. In Wilson s early childhood, he had seen the horrors of war towards the end of the Civil War, which gives him insight into how peace could be achieved before he was interested in being president. Wilson attended Princeton, University of Virginia Law School, and John Hopkins University, thus giving him more credibility because he is very well educated on multiple topics ( Woodrow Wilson. The White House.). During his speech, he was very fair minded and suggested solutions to problems that all countries faced, and not just what would benefit a single country. As an example, Wilson believes that nations should live its own life [and] determine its own institutions , which backs up the statement that he wants every nation to be its own and respected by other countries (American Rhetoric: Woodrow Wilson The Fourteen Points). The Fourteen Points speech was entirely about peace negotiations and this allows him to show his morals throughout the speech. His morals being that he does not want any more fighting, and he believes that the world should be a safe place for all humans and nations to coexist with one another. In fact, Wilson and his secretary of state wanted to base their foreign policy on moral principles rather than selfish materialism ( Woodrow Wilson: Foreign Affairs. ). • 14. Pros And Cons Of False Confessions People know that false confessions are possible, however, most do not understand the severity. 66% of people said that if a person signed a confession, they were most likely guilty (Henkel, Coffman, Dailey, 2008). Only 11% disagreed that a person might confess to a crime they did not commit. Furthermore, only 42% of participants said that the police might lie about the police having evidence. Henkel, Coffman, and Dailey report an overwhelming majority of the participants claimed that they would never confess during an interrogation. What may lead to a false confession? One major factor is not understanding Miranda rights. Adults may have some difficulty understanding and appreciating their Miranda rights, but have a general idea of their rights. Conversely, juveniles have a much more difficult time comprehending their rights. The current standard for competency is a having a basic understanding of Miranda rights (Grisso et al., 2003). However, Viljoen, Zapf, and Roesch (2007) found that 58% of defendants ages 11 13, 33.3% of defendants ages 14 15, and 7.8% of defendants ages 16 17 did not meet this standard. Moreover, if the defendant must also appreciate the rights, 78% of defendants ages 11 13, 62.7% of defendants ages 14 15, and 35.3% of defendants ages 16 17 did not meet these standards. After a bunch of rabble The first concepts of the Internet were invented in the 1960 s who saw much use in allowing computers to share information. It was mainly used for scientific and military purposes, research, development, and sorts. J.C.R. Licklider of MIT first suggested the idea of a global network of computers in 1962. He moved to the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency to develop the Internet. A while later, the Internet was brought online in 1969, but was previously known as ARPANET. It was done under contract with the renamed Advanced Research Projects Agency. At first, It connected four major computers, which were located in different universities. The mystical Internet was designed to provide a communications network that would still function even if some dominant sites were down. The early Internet was used by computer experts, engineers, scientists, and librarians. There were no personal computers back in the day, and everyone who used it had to learn an extremely complex system. Two scores and three years ago, (1972) Email was adapted by Ray Tomlinson. • 19. Exosomes As A Whole Has Gained Momentum Through The Area... The interest and research invested into the area of exosome biogenesis and the topic of exosomes as a whole has gained momentum in the last decade (Urbanelli, L. et al. 2013). Their discovery in 1983, detailed in two papers published in JCB (Harding et al) and in Cell (Pan and Johnstone), showed that the nomenclature had been prescribed wrongly to a broad range of membrane vesicles that bud directly from the plasma membrane (Clifford V. Harding. et al. 2013). When in fact the term exosome more accurately describes small vesicles, ranging from 30 100nm in diameter (Urbanelli, L. et al. 2013), that originate via a different mechanism of budding than apoptotic bodies and microvesicles, (Yu, S. et al. 2015). Whilst exosomes have been retrieved in many body fluids, for example; blood, urine, saliva and cerebrospinal fluid (Urbanelli, L. et al. 2013). Exosome Biogenesis Exosomes are exceptional from other types of vesicles based on a number of factors; including their size (relatively small in comparison), morphology, cargo composition and most distinctly, their endosomal origin (Théry C. 2002). Familiar types of vesicles such as microvesicles are formed at the cell surface, budding directly from the plasma membrane (Alenquer, M. et al. 2015). Exosome biogenesis follows an alternative method that begins in the early endosome (Huotari, J and Helemius, A. 2011), whereby the ultimate result is the formation of intraluminal vesicles (IVL s) inside the lumen of the endosome, this aggregate body is known as the multivesicular body (MVB) or the multivesicular endosome (MVE). Initially the early endosomal membrane, tube like in shape (Beach, A. et al, 2014), buds inwards via intraluminal invagination (Lopez Verrilli, M and Court, F. 2013), randomly engulfing sections of the cytosol contents such as the peripheral and transmembrane proteins. This formation of the IVL s noticeably augments as the endosomes mature (Huotari, J and Helemius, A. 2011) and after transformation the late endosome is more spherical in shape (Beach, A. et al. 2014). • 30. Rhetorical Analysis Of Virginia Woolf Rhetorical Analysis Essay Woolf Alanna Kellam 1B In her memoir, Virginia Woolf discusses a valuable lesson learned during her childhood fishing trips in Cornwall, England. To convey the significance of past moments, Woolf incorporates detailed figurative language and a variety of syntax into her writing. Woolf communicates an appreciative tone of the past to the audience, emphasizing its lasting impact on her life. Woolf organizes her writing using various forms of syntax which contributes to the significance of the memory. The author s portrayal of the setting is recounted with long, detailed sentences in order to illustrate its importance. The excitement of fishing is depicted as Woolf retells Sometimes the lines would be handed to us; baited by gobbets cut from fish; and the line thrilled in one s fingers as the boat tossed and shot through the water (12 15). The author includes multiple semicolons not only to extend the sentence, but to also present similar ideas in a like structure. Notably, the author conveys tactile imagery to support the lengthy sentences with compelling details. The tossing of the boat and the touch of the fishing line embodies the exciting chaos the author had felt in the past. As a result, readers are then able to understand the specific attributes of Woolf s memory that made the experience significant. Additionally, Woolf further develops the impact of her excitement as she describes ...and then how can I convey the excitement? there was a little leaping tug... (15 17). Again, lengthy sentence structure helps to connect the images of her memory. The dashes communicate to readers a sense of the author s internal thoughts, as if she was writing all that was on her mind. The dashes outline changes in the flow of the language, so that readers can note clearly defined shifts. They also symbolize the vividness of her memories, therefore the significance of the events in her situation. Unique from the majority of the sentences, Woolf includes declarative structure as she states It was a perfect lesson (25). The line stands out to the readers, amongst the other sentences, because of its length, which is intended to convey an idea directly. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

According to Psychcentral.com, a first grader is able to recognize 200 brands and obtains 70 new toys a year. In the essay, it states, When those teenagers become adults they will expect to do little work for a lot in return. They are more likely to suffer personality disorders like narcissism, separation anxiety, paranoia, and attention deficit disorder. The author uses pathos here, because parents naturally care about their child s well being. Parents never want to be the cause of their child s problem, and if there is a problem, they want to find a way to solve it. The quote is also the Ethos of the article, because it shows the credibility. She knows a lot about how the psyche works on individuals, by telling the audience the possible effects that materialism can have on children. The author counters her argument with, Now, i m not saying to refrain from buying gifts for your loved ones... Just don t overindulge and do try to make them meaningful. . As the years move forward, human beings continue to forget information that they had known as children once they had reached a certain age in adulthood. While scientific inquiry was certainly one of the main reasons that yellow fever became one of the first viruses that we were able to eradicate, it was not the only driving force. A biosocial approach to dissecting global health issues not only takes into account all the biological aspects that come into play, but also how society, history, culture and the political economy impact these global diseases (Farmer et al. 2013). The economic benefits that convince the US to tackle yellow fever ultimately ended up advancing global health as well. Also, Veronese heavily used vibrant colors to show the richness of the subjects and to create light. This painting has lived through several interesting eras and owners. Wars and political overlords dominated the geography of this painting and even damaged the canvas. Since Veronese s style and talents were sought after, his work, religious and secular, was mostly commissioned by patrons of the Venetian community. Veronese was a painter fond of the Mannerist style in the High Renaissance era. As he aged, art and religion were important aspects of Veronese s life. He fully embraced the traditions and regulations of his God and was even commissioned because of his talent and devotion to the church. One aspect of success that that has not been taken into consideration, which is in order for you to be successful you must be happy, at least that is what I believe. Going back to the example of becoming a millionaire, sure you may be happy about having money at first but soon having all the money in the world will not make a difference to you. You will go day after day wishing for something more and it probably will be something that money cannot buy. However if you are happy with your job and how you earned the money that is a different story, you have succeeded. According to Merriam Webster Collegiate Dictionary success is defined as the attainment of wealth, favor, or eminence. When I talked to Amy Strawn, who is the children s pastors wife at my church, she had a few different definitions of what exactly success was. Her first comment was about success within her faith. The Causes of World War II Essay The Causes of World War II At the end of the First World War all the different countries such as France, United Kingdom, United States and Germany thought that the peace would last forever. However, as we have seen, they were terribly wrong… In 1939 a more violent and destructive war began. This time people fought all over the world, in Asia, Europe and also in the United States (Pearl harbour). I shall now explain what the main causes of the war were. The aggression began at the end of the First World War, when the Treaty of Versailles was signed and Germany was forced to pay a lot of money to France for the reparations of the obliterated cities. It was clearly not bound together by the strong bonds that it needed… For a start the main super powers of the world were not in it, especially USA, and USA did begin the League of Nations. There was clearly no chance of peace with the League of Nations, as Hitler quite easily backed out without much question! It was far too casual for it to be a success. During 1936 to 1939, Hitler was annexing different countries, like Austria and Czechoslovakia. Churchill was the prime minister of the English government at the time, and he along with the French government decided not to react, they thought that Hitler was a gentlemen (this was in fact the exact word Churchill used at this time…!) and that he will not expand to more countries… however they were very wrong! An important factor displayed here is that the French and English didn t want to fight again; the effects of First World War were still on their mind… they did not want more destruction than there already had been. At the same time Hitler was taking over more and more countries (not entire countries but parts of them… he was using a technique he called ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Viva La Vida And The Count Of Monte Cristo While each piece of literature is completely different, some of them have similar patterns and ideas. One of these ideas would be human nature. Human nature is anything that is natural for a human to do and can not be stopped easily. Things like greed and too much power can change someone greatly. This can be the cause of many problems and can make someone who is a good person into a bad person. In Viva La Vida and The Count of Monte Cristo, the writers use of allusions and metaphors convey the idea that human nature can be the cause of misfortune. The story of Viva La Vida, by Coldplay, is about a king who has too much power and ends up being overthrown from people in his kingdom. Coldplay expresses this story in metaphors. I used ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This king had the key to the castle, meaning that he knew what the people wanted. The way Coldplay explains this story makes it seem like the people living in the king s castle turned on him, hence the reference to the walls closing in on himself. This king must have been hated for something he did, then again, every human makes mistakes. Although, this must not have been the first time because he lost his whole castle just from a mistake. Then he starts to realize why he was wrong. The downfall of this king could have been from bragging about his power too much since it is human nature to brag. Or possibly being overwhelmed with too much power giving his enemies a chance to attack. Another metaphor with the same meaning can be found in The Count of Monte Cristo. The same thing that happened to Brutus the night before the Battle of Philippi: I saw a ghost. And that ghost told me I have lived long enough (Dumas 381). At this moment in the story, the count is preparing for his duel with Albert. He then tells Maximilien that he plans on dying during the duel and leaving Maximilien his will. Maximilien is shocked and asks the count why he would ever do such a thing. The count responds with the above quote. This quote is a metaphor and shows how it is in a human s nature to want to forget the people who you don t like. This quote uses the example of Mercedes since she was the ghost that came to Dantes the night before the duel and begged him not to kill her son. Dantes responds by saying that he can not live with the dishonor of backing away from a duel, so he agreed to let Albert ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
