Pirate Ship Research Paper
Types of Pirate Ships
By: Caleb J.
Carracks can carry 1,200 pounds and are one of the largest ships that pirates used. There are also other
kinds of ships that pirates use like Naval ships, Cargo ships, and Transportation ships.
First of all, Naval ships have lots of armor and cannons for protection, like an Ironclad with iron
frames for protection from cannons and other fire power from enemy ships. The Brig and Panstership
are both huge Naval ships. Also a fire ship was a ship filled with TNT that could be lighted and used
to destroy other ships. The Corvette was a lightly armed warship, also Cutters were fast warships. The
Sloop of War has 18 cannons. Another one, is the Penteconter was a 50 oar warship, also a Brigantine
was driven by oars.

Federal Tax And Federal Income Tax
To most, the term federal income tax is just paying the government or money they don t get. But in
government and the world of finance, it is major and involved idea which involves a great deal of
focus and discussion. The United States federal income tax is a complex system which is a necessary
function of the government. A taxable amount is determined on income, and it creates taxation for the
government to accumulate money. There are many factors that play into the complexity of the system
which developed the processes of the federal income tax today. Understanding this financial system
requires a level of insight into the layers of information that the federal income tax entails. Taxation in
America has always been a huge factor of societal and governmental focus. The nation started with a
hatred for taxes dating back to the tax burden placed on the American colonies by Great Britain. Early
in its history, America had few very few taxes. However, it became the major source of revenue for the
United States government. The War of 1812 created a higher need for taxation, and initiated the nation
s first sales taxes which were placed on gold, silverware, jewelry, and watches. But in 1817 the
internal taxes were repealed, and the government relied on tariffs on imported goods for funds. Once
again, the onset of war generated a necessity of greater revenue, and in 1862, during the civil war, the
nation s first income tax was enacted. This income tax was the foundation to

Prisoner s Dilemma
This paper further examines The Prisoner s Dilemma. The Prisoner s Dilemma is a situation where
two prisoners are placed into isolation cells and they can choose to either stay silent or confess. This
game of probability that has taken many forms, but the concept is always the same. There are two
people who have been arrested and can choose to either remain silent or confess. I first become
interested in the prisoner s dilemma while reading The Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton Lee
Stewart. The prisoner s dilemma is only briefly touched upon in this novel, but I was intrigued enough
to want to peruse a further analysis. In this paper the prisoner s dilemma will be further analyzed using
probability prediction methods. The Prisoner s Dilemma was developed in the 1950s by game
theorists Dresher and Flood. These theorists were working to determine the possibility of
intercontinental nuclear warfare. It was developed during experiments that tested to see how people
behaved in particular situations. The original situation surrounded two people deciding whether to buy
a car. The introduction of two prisoners to this situation was added by Princeton mathematician A.W.
Tucker. A private company ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Nazi Party Of Germany
The Nazi Party of Germany aimed to create a racially pure society between the years 1933 through to
1945. This society, or Volksgemeinschaft, was to contain Hitler s ideological view on what a pure
person, or Aryan should be. It also involved the exclusion of anyone who did not fit this mould. The
Nazi party was extremely successful in achieving their highly aimed goal. Through the Nazi s control
over youth groups and in children s education, the Nazi Party and Hitler were able to reach this goal in
the years 1933 to 1939, and this continued through World War Two till the end of 1945. The Nazi
Party convinced children about their ideologies and by doing so paved a path for the new generation to
be followers of the Third Reich. Not everyone supported the Nazi regime, but overall it was accepted
by society, and the youth groups helped the Nazi party form their ideal society leading up to and
during the war. When Hitler became Chancellor and passed the Enabling Act in 1933, it allowed the
Nazi Party to have control over Germany. The controlling of the education system allowed the Nazi s
to implement their beliefs and ideas in subjects. The Hitler Youth organisations were a way for the
Nazi party to groom future supporters and members of the Nazi party. This included future SS
members and the future perfect Aryan Nazi family. The policies they implemented in the schools and
youth groups were what ultimately helped the Nazi party be successful in forming their idealistic

Transactional Leadership Theory Analysis
The Transactional Leadership Theory most closely represents my personal leadership style. The above
listed strengths support this connection.
My first leadership strength is my commitment / loyalty to the organization I work for. I have worked
at Harbor Montessori School (HMS) for 10 years during which I have served in various roles in order
to stay connected to the HMS community. I have served as an Upper
Elementary teacher, P.E. teacher, art teacher, in house substitute, Middle School teacher, child care
director, and currently as the Director of Admissions Summer Programming (DOSAP).
As a leader, I go above and beyond to support the staff and families of HMS often working late, filling

You are the internal audit senior responsible for conducting an assurance engagement of the XYZ
Company payroll process. This process has not been audited for three years and, as such, is due in the
normal audit cycle. There have been no significant changes since the previous audit, that is, there were
no system changes, no reorganization of personnel, and no substantive procedural changes. However,
during the last assurance engagement, the internal audit function identified several observations, some
of which were considered significant. The significant observations related to:

Potential Risk Scenarios for each objectives respectively
1. There s a potential risk of delegating one person manipulating the recording and authorizing of the
payroll accounts.
2. There s a considerable risk that an employee will not turn in the timesheet in a timely manner, and
so will not be paid.
3. There s a probability of the occurrence of significant errors that would likely cause the duplication
of payment to terminated employees as well as variances on the payment to ghost employees.
4. There s a possibility a lack of supporting evidences and requirements to grant the benefit associated

Risk Assessment
POLICY and PROCEDURES IMPLEMENTATION RISK
It is considered as HIGH IMPACT as lack of sufficient direction could result in material payroll
transactions being made in an inappropriate or fraudulent manner. This risk is considered MEDIUM
LIKELIHOOD because the sizable sums of money involve in the payroll function have frequently
been a target for theft and fraud.
*RISK TOLERANCE: The Payroll Department set a target of 100% that the policies and procedures

The Uniform Resource Locator ( Url )
What are the URL and Cookies? The Uniform Resource Locator (URL) is the first information used to
specify or access a page on the worldwide web. It can identify any network resource which has a
connection to the Internet, such as text pages, images, music or video links. URL parameters are ones
which establish dynamic values for a webpage and can be easily accessed by its template and data
source. This makes pages incredibly dynamic, enabling a single page to power an endless number of
views (Symphony,2012). For example, the URL of Saint Joseph s University is https://www.sju.edu/.
As soon as the parameters in this URL are set, it filters the data source that draws the proper entry
from the concepts section. Like we can see the Blackboard URL of SJU is https://learn.sju.edu/. We
know that all concept views of this URL are powered by a single page. When we create a website, it is
important to keep the URL short and simple one which people will instantly know what content is
likely. If you ve done this, then you ve done a great job (Rand, 2008). People can easily remember it
and share it with their friends or colleagues by copying and pasting, emailing, or writing it down. Also
search engines will pick up on it quicker and put it much higher when visitors use the keywords to
search. Cookies are generally small text files which store our browsing information and they are

Sean Armstrong s Eros And Psyche
To earn a good mark on a test, one must be willing to study continuously, in spite of the hassle of
doing so. To win gold in the Olympics, one must be dedicated to the sport and train constantly, despite
the difficulty. From the smallest of objectives to the greatest, never has anyone achieved anything
important for their lives without commitment and hardship. In Sean Armstrong s short story, Eros and
Psyche , these very same attributes are presented in order to acquire love. By Psyche agreeing to
accomplish Aphrodite s tasks and facing the jealousy and wrath of the goddess in order to gain back
the love of her life, Eros, she has introduced herself to a journey of trials and tribulations. In Eros and
Psyche , Sean Armstrong uses the three ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First, the tasks that are given are not at all simple. One of the most dangerous of them requires her to
obtain some of Persephone s beauty by traveling to the underworld which is considered to be a
sentence of death (229). Even with the knowledge that she could possibly be risking her life to fulfill
this task, Psyche still undertakes it. This is because she is aware that by completing this task, she will
be able to be with the love of her life and giving up now would mean that all her hard work would be
in vain. By incorporating a character such as Psyche who displays a persistent characteristic in such an
impossible task, Armstrong implies that having a willingness to do something despite its difficulty and
pursuing it until the end will always have a reward. Second, Psyche is not only rewarded with Eros,
but she is also given the status of a god. When Eros takes Psyche to Olympus after completing her
tasks, he convinces Zeus that Psyche has proven her love for [Eros] and therefore let her stay in
heaven (230). Psyche earns herself a seat on Olympus due to the fact that she stays committed to
accomplishing her given tasks, and in doing so has proven that she is prepared to undergo any task in
order to be with Eros which is rewarded with a rightfully earned spot on Olympus. By rewarding
Psyche for seeing her tasks through, Armstrong implies that there is a reward in diligence and hard
work.

John Locke s Second Treatise On Civil Government
Freedom, a concept essential to the human experience, should have some limitations. In addition, I
will explore the definition of freedom, how the power of government is also limited and how these
limitations fit into the theories of Hobbes, Locke, and Aristotle.
There should be limits to freedom because unlimited freedom can endanger the liberties of others.
Without limits to freedom, individuals can use their natural rights to cause harm and hurt others.
Freedom, as defined as by John Locke, is to be free from any superior power on earth, and not to be
under the will or legislative authority of men. If the individual exists in a society, then Locke theorizes
their liberty exists under the legislative power established by consent in the ... Show more content on

In Locke s Second Treatise on Civil Government, the philosopher theorizes on the limitations of
freedom. To begin with, Locke makes the critical point that in the state of nature men are perfectly
free to order their actions, and dispose of their possessions and themselves, in any way they like,
without asking anyone s permission. However this freedom is subject only to limits set by the law of
nature. Locke believes that the limitations to freedom are dictated by the law of nature. In Locke s
view, everyone is equal in the state of nature, with the same advantages and privileges. Therefore, no
individual has the right to abuse the liberty of others, even if they have the freedom and ability to do
so. This abuse, termed as license, exists outside the state of nature and Locke believes that this power
is not granted to anyone. This is especially important when considering the power of the government.
For Locke, the power of the government must be limited to the laws of nature. Once the government
starts acting outside the laws of nature, the government becomes illegitimate.
Aristotle also feels that freedom should be used for the peace and prosperity of others. In Aristotle s
Nicomachean Ethics, there exists two different types of freedom: positive and negative. Negative
freedom is the freedom from something, such as barriers or government coercion. Positive freedom,
which is recommended by Aristotle, is the freedom to pursue an end. For Aristotle, the ideal end is a
complete life, full of virtue. This life, full of happiness and friendship, does not exist to harm or foul to
others. Without these limitations, positive freedom would not be

Personality Traits Of A Personality Trait Essay
NZ Personality Trait Research Gender differences in personality traits
A lot of research has been done regarding gender differences in personality traits; which have given
observable differences in previous research done on different levels of traits. This study addresses the
gender differences in the levels of neuroticism and agreeableness in New Zealand. Results show that
there are significant differences between the levels of neuroticism and agreeableness in males and
females with women having higher levels in both traits.
Introduction(600 900)
Are women and men largely different in terms of personality traits? Agreeableness and Neuroticism
are two conflicting traits Do they differ in terms of gender? This research will address if there is a
significant difference in the levels of personality traits between males and females. NZMA collected
data on New Zealand participants responds to questionnaire based on personality trait (Sibley, 2014).
This research will look at how the data shows gender differences on whether men have higher levels
of one trait than the other or do females have a lower level of one trait that the men are higher in.
Previous work has been done on looking at the different five traits on the Hexagon model and relating
it to the gender differences. Studies similar to this have been many times replicated with the traits
agreeableness and neuroticism. A more recent study similar to our research

The Welfare Of Foreign Workers
The welfare of foreign workers in Singapore is not taken care of seriously. Welfare refers to a person
or a groups happiness, health and well being. In this essay, I will be looking it from three different
perspectives of why the welfare is not taken care of seriously. Firstly, the treatment they received,
next, the food they eat and lastly the living conditions that they stay in.
In Singapore, there are around 1.32 million of foreign workers. Majority take up low skilled jobs, for
example construction workers and domestic helpers. These jobs are called the 3D jobs, which means it
is dirty, dangerous and difficult. They act as an invisible backbone to many well developing and fast
growing economic countries as they build our houses and roads which are essential in a country. As
they take up jobs that Singaporeans are not willing to do, we are obliged to treat them better. Or at
least give them the basic rights and respect. However, people do not treat them the way they should.
There are many incidents of people mistreating foreign workers in Singapore. This includes not giving
them enough dignity and also abuse. In Unattended Foreign Maid, Migrant Workers Singapore (2009),
it mentions that a poster was pasted outside a local food court, with the words THIS IS NOT THE
WAITING AREA FOR FOREIGN MAID.UNATTENDED FOREIGN MAID WILL BE HANDED
TO THE SECURITY on it. (as cited in Huang, S.,Yeoh, B. S.A., 2015, p.175). It clearly proves that
locals do not treat them equally,

misleading statements. Instead of investing the investor s hard earned money, Spyker Telemarketer

profitable to sell compared to the numismatic coins. Thus, the pushy upselling techniques to buy
numismatic coins because they are rare or historic can have wrong motives. The fact that numismatic
coins are not permitted to be stored in the precious metal IRA and that they have an extremely low
liquidity will be conveniently hidden. This form of scam can also con the investors by giving a false
assurance that numismatic coins may not be seized by the government in any circumstances. To
protect yourself from such gold IRA scams, it is essential to understand that only definite bullion coins

Motif Of Night In Macbeth
In Shakespeare s Macbeth, the motif of night is aggressive like the murders they plot and commit.
Night dominates day throughout the play since they commit murders which disrupt the natural order
of the world. Macbeth plays God by taking someone else s life and therefore they challenge the
Elizabethan order of the world. Acts of chaos, like earthquakes and supernatural events, break loose.
Macbeth and Lady Macbeth think the night will cover their treacherous deeds. At first, the idea of
murdering Duncan frightens Macbeth, but after he kills the two guards, he begins to lose his humanity.
In the beginning, Lady Macbeth feels no remorse for the deaths they are responsible for but as the play
progresses, Lady Macbeth starts to feel remorse for her and her husband s actions. Although Lady
Macbeth and Macbeth hope the night will conceal their sins, instead it illuminates their actions and
worsens their guilt. Their actions can never fully hide since they disrupt the natural order of the world
and cause chaos.
Lady Macbeth and Macbeth call on the night before Duncan s and Banquo s murders and hope that its
darkness will be enough to cover the evil deeds they are about to commit. Before Duncan s murder,
Lady Macbeth asks the witches to thicken her blood so she does not feel remorse or guilt. She also
wishes for a dark and foggy night, when she says: Come, thick night, and pall thee in the dunnest
smoke of hell, that my keen knife see not the wound it makes (1.5.57 59). She

A Brief Note On Poland s Solidarity Movement
Poland s Solidarity Movement in 1989 The Cold War was a state of political hostility characterized by
threats, propaganda and other measures short of open warfare, as defined by Google Dictionary. These
1989 Cold War Revolutions largely impacted the world and for many regions, opened up an
opportunity to express a new perspective towards the challenges that were taking place throughout
these countries. Poland, the Philippines, Chile, South Africa, Ukraine and China were all apart of these
non violent overthrows of various dictatorships. Each region endured various types of discrimination
and exploitation throughout the Cold Wars end. Whether it was economic exploitation, political
discrimination, or the violation of human and civil rights, non violent revolutions rose throughout
Eastern Europe. The book, 1989 Democratic Revolutions at the Cold War s End, written by Padriac
Kenney, analyzes these overthrows and discusses the outcomes for each region. For Poland, more
specifically, these non violent strikes began when they first came under the control of the Soviet
Union in 1948. However, their resistance began in 1944, when the Soviet Union had just began
liberating Polish territory. Starting off with an armed resistance from 1944 to 1947 and ending with
the Solidarity movement in 1989, Poland finally had control of the government from the Communists.
With a brutal start, Polish oppositionists realized there was a better, non violent way to go. The rise of

There will be 400 new hotel rooms built in Elizabeth Quay which is necessary to accommodate the

been many different opinions about whether or not Elizabeth Quay is a good idea. In July of 2012, it
was found that 41% of the population of Perth was for Elizabeth Quay, while 36% did not think it was
a good idea. Interestingly, it was found that liberal and green supporters were more in favour of the
project than labor supporters. Many of those not in favour of the project believe that it does little for
Australian heritage and that it isn t worth the disruption of traffic that would be caused by the closing
of Riverside drive during the building period. It is also thought that many people in Perth are in fear of
change; that they want it to stay the same sleepy town that it had been in the past. But in opposition to
this, supporters of the project have rightly stated that Perth is the fastest growing city in Australia, and
change is inevitable to support all the requirements of a large population. Negative impact 2: The
appeal of the areas around the Elizabeth Quay development may have been affected due to noise,
pollution, smoke and dust in the air and increased traffic congestion. This could affect the businesses
around these areas as they may not have gotten as many customers. Also, buildings that used to be in

Humanistic Assumptions
My assumptions of human nature and behavior derive from my own personal evaluation of life and
things that I have seen and have come encounter with. I believe that human nature influences certain
behaviors. When I think about how my cousins and I grew up together but now lead totally different
lives, it makes me assume that something happened to them, that did not happen with my siblings and
I that cause our behaviors to be different.
Biology is important because it explains why behaviors are present or the lack thereof. I believe that
instinctual attributes that humans obtain, are largely due to the animalistic heritage embedded into
humans. I truly believe that people are basically good. Things that occur to them, changes their
behaviors and thoughts (cognitive processes) to then change their good to better, bad, or neutral
behaviors.
Human behavior can be determined by all things, past events, training, as well as genetics. I believe
that all of things can play a part in one s behavior. It has been founded that some behaviors are
genetically embedded, as well as that trainings from parents, or other superiors can dictate and change
one s behavior. As humans begin to mature and find their own independence, we ... Show more

The Collapse Of The Soviet Empire And Its Hegemony
We often overlook the real causes of the downfall of the Soviet empire and its hegemony, and simply
tie it to the fact that they were communist, dictatorial regimes. However, this is not entirely true. There
were many factors that resulted in the demise of this socialist conglomerate, and East Germany in
particular. The GDR was a special case in that it was racked by some of the worst economic
circumstances that any of the Eastern bloc faced, and as result, became the first to fall. Such
assumptions compel us to draw equivalencies between the GDR and other communist countries like
Yugoslavia, even though East Germany was at a much more disadvantageous position. The East
German military also had to provide the bulk of the non Soviet forces in all Warsaw Pact military
plans. This forced the GDR government to forcibly conscript large numbers of their population and
spend vast quantities of their funds on military hardware. These elements combined to start the GDR
on a slippery slope towards default, and economic turmoil. The first aspect that I will focus on is the
grossly disproportionate amount of money that the East German government spent on its military
capacity. Initially, the USSR was the only military force in postwar East Germany. The Soviets

Case Study Of The Volkswagen Emission Scandal
Introduction
This Case Study will look into the Volkswagen emission scandal and they key corporate issues that
underline it. A case Study is a process or record of research into the development of a particular group
over a period of time. I am writing this Case Study for the purpose of researching and analyzing how a
company like Volkswagen, which was named no. 8 on Forbes fortune 500 list in 2014, could be
involved in one of the biggest scandals in this decade.
Volkswagen group sells passenger cars under Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Audi, Porsche, Seat,
Škoda and of course Volkswagen itself and is one of the biggest car manufacturers in the World.
Unfortunately in 2015 it emerged that Volkswagen was involved in unlawful practice regarding their
diesel cars not meeting emission standards and how they tried to rectify this problem in an unlawful
manner. My paper will be divided into two key parts: The Case Study and The Case Analysis. In the
case study I will give an overview of what happened in the Volkswagen emissions scandal, which is
still ongoing, I will give a background and context to all the key parties involved and then depict the
key events that shape this scandal. Secondly, I will do the Case Study Analysis where I will identify
all the corporate governance issues and then critically evaluate if VW ... Show more content on

Both Views on Criminal Disenfranchisement
The American Constitution, as outlined in the Preamble, boldly defines its purpose as We the People
(U.S. Constitution). Reasonableness suggests that the framers of the Constitution would provide
appropriate legislation enhancing the citizenship s right to actively participate in government via
public elections given such a definitive statement expanding on the power of the people. However,
American citizens do not possess a constitutionally protected right to vote. During the drafting period
of the Constitution, only white male property owners could vote, however, voting rights have
drastically changed throughout the history of the United States. Through amendments passed over the
past two centuries, the Constitution has changed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Criminal disenfranchisement, while currently upheld by Supreme Court review, has a growing base of
supporters for the overturning of such exclusionary practices. In fact, according to a recent study, the
majority of the mass public, between 52 and 80 percent depending on the crime committed, vastly
supports the re enfranchisement of previously convicted felons not currently imprisoned (Manza,
Brooks, Uggen, 2003). State laws restricting the rights of a convicted felon to vote, even after
completing a penal sentence remain inconsistent, at best. The disparity between the states application
of the varying degrees of criminal disenfranchisement raises concerns over the validity of the actions
when affecting a federal voting right; the ability to vote in a federal election is being mandated by the
states, without direction, structure or federal oversight. When the Constitution was written, only white
male property owners (about 10 to 16 percent of the nation s population) had the right to vote (Crews,
2007). While over the past two centuries the perseverance and machinations of checks and balances of
power within the government have transformed the United States into a government by the people,
criminal disenfranchisement penalties remain vastly unchanged until recently due to power entrusted
to each state to govern its people. By the onset of the Civil War

The Security Of Data Tightly And Information Security

In today s world transformation of data very securely and information security are the most important
categories for the organizations to follow or else the information can easily be taken away by the
enemies. In olden days the organizations used to follow the encryption and decryption for the
transformation of data securely which is known as cryptography. In cryptography the security of data
depends on how strong the encryption and decryption are said to be used. But it is not very easy for
the sender and receiver to recall all the passwords. So avoid those difficulties crypto biometric is used
which is the combination of biometric and cryptography. The biometric is a technology that identifies
humans with their body uniqueness like fingerprints, face prints and voice patterns for the validation
purposes. In recent year s most of the analysts, trying to eradicate the password identification and
using the biometric. The combination of cryptography and biometric can eliminate the recall of
passwords because the information can be used only by the identified person. But there are some of
the problems that are faced in the biometric. The biometric system which contains the information
should not reveal any biometric features. It should also have the flexibility of converting the varied
data in to the fixed. So, the data cannot be revealed to the unauthorized person when it was

Treating Long-term Elderly Patents with Pressure Ulcers
Serial Sharp Debridement and Formulated Collagen Gel to Treat Pressure Ulcers in Elderly Long term
Care Patients: A Case Study
Patients at Long Term Care Facilities are generally debilitated and elderly people who have
incontinence problems. Incontinence makes treating pressure ulcers very difficult because it alters
tissue tolerance and reapplying products becomes very costly. Usually negative pressure wound
therapy (NPWT) is used to treat pressure ulcers but it is also very costly and does not match with
some wound locations. Collagen plays a vital role in the wound healing process by creating a
framework for the adhesion, movement, and production of new cells. This study determined the
effects and uses of Type 1 formulated collagen on granulation tissue formation and
reepithreelialization in chronic pressure ulcers.
Eligible participants for the application of Type 1 formulated collagen gel must 1) have an open
pressure ulcer at least 2.0 cm in diameter that did not heal after using NPWT and 2) have no
symptoms of and wound or bone infection. The three patients in the study had a wound of at least 18
months and had showed no signs of improvement during 4 weeks of NPWT. The patients received the
standard care including the treatment of moist wound healing and debridement, prevention of
additional skin breakdown, and maintenance of functional abilities. Before beginning the use of
collagen gel, sharp debridement was performed with additional sharp debridement performed at

When comparing and contrasting the differences in the three approaches, I will review the relationship

Marge Piercy s The Pampered Life Of Artifice
The Pampered Life of a Bonsai What if beer was never invented? What would fraternities take pride
in? What would they do in place of a keg stand? What would be the drink of choice for white dads
across America? A world where my dad can be seen drinking a girly drink while admiring the freshly
cut lawn is a humorous yet alarming possibility. This nightmarish thought would be reality without
women. Research lead by historian Jane Peyton, supports the idea that women s specialty for
millenniums was brewing beer. Although women are more to society than the keepers of the art of
brewing, this is one startling difference that women have made on society. Women are capable of
working hard, specializing in areas of expertise and intellectually competent. Marge Piercy would
agree that women hold great potential, if not hindered by the harmful effects of misogyny and the
patriarchal tendencies of society. Although to the untrained eye, A Work of Artifice may appear to be

Piercy uses precise language which highlights the destructive nature of misogyny, but a gardener
carefully pruned it (bonsai tree), she uses a euphemism to describe the cutting of branches. Pruning is
a process that involves the careful trimming of a plant for aesthetic purposes. The choice of
euphemisms emphasize the ignorance of the gardener who believes his actions promote prosperity,
although his efforts only stunt growth and damage the bonsai tree. The gardener also whittles back the
branches, which is another way that he damages the tree. Similarly, the women involved with the
extended metaphor are handicapped by misogynists. Whittling happens to be another fancy word for
harming, cutting, or debilitating a plant. The unintentional harm of the bonsai tree compares to the
ignorance of misogynists and the harm they impose on

The Lokal
In my ceaseless visits to new cafes that seem to be sprouting every other day in this tiny island, it is
only natural that I won t like some. But it is also natural to have a favourite one that shines.
That s The Lokal.
This newly opened Aussie inspired café along Neil Road is not your normal stop by dining spot. I was
welcomed by the casual retro interior and comforting natural light shining in from the French
windows, one step into it and I had my heart on sleeve already. The open concept kitchen where one
could see the chefs in action gave off the feeling of authenticity, a good break away from the countless
typical and pretentious cafes that have sprouted in recent years. My first impression of the place
heralded high expectations and true enough, The Lokal was more than extraordinary.

Political Incorporation Analysis
Political incorporation refers to the extent to which a group s interests are effectively represented in
policy making. This can be measured by looking at the extent to which a group is represented in a
coalition that dominates city policy making on issues concerning them. There is a range of
possibilities. A group is not represented at all when there are no officials from a group holding
political office and the group does not participate in a coalition that does have control over city
government on the issues most important to them. Sometimes there is some representation, on a

Implementing programs like the participatory budgeting one found in at least one New York City
council district. In such programs, a community s residents have access to a certain portion of the
district s annual budget and through a series of neighborhood assemblies and public meetings over the

Female Characters In And Then There Were None
Women. They are a complete mystery, said the revolutionary physicist Stephen Hawking. In the novel
And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie, it is apparent that the female characters are portrayed
in a manner that is both derogatory and stereotypical. Whether the incidents include a fellow character
or the author directly using offensive insults, portrayals of hysteria or weakness compared to the
males, or downright treating the female protagonists like objects or things, they are sometimes cruel
and unnecessary. Throughout And Then There Were None, the female characters are described through
hurtful stereotypes, objectification, and psychotic behaviors that may not be appropriate for
impressionable young minds to be reading about, despite others suggesting otherwise. One of the
largest problems with And Then There Were None is the use of offensive and hurtful stereotypes while
referring to the women in the novel, as well as indirectly stating that all women should be
homemakers who cook and clean. With a pioneering female writer such as Agatha Christie, you would
not necessarily expect such blaring misogyny, but it remains all the same. On a broader note, the three
main female characters are each stereotypes of the crazy woman one following under her husband
even for cruelty, one being bible crazy, and one being so in love she is willing to literally kill anyone
who stands in her way. More specifically, when William Blore is analyzing the death of Mrs. Rogers,

A Brief Note On Consumer Electronics Bus ( Cebus )
2.3 ii) CeBus technology
Consumer Electronics Bus (CEBus), a standard proposed by the Electronic Industries Association, is
based on the concept of Local Area Networks (LAN s). CEBus based products consist mainly of a
transceiverwhich implements spread spectrum technology along with a controller to run the protocol.
The given protocol standards are for radio frequency, twisted pair, power line communication and a
number of other networking methods. The CEBus PLDT standard specifies that a binary digit is
represented by how long a frequency burst is applied to the channel i.e, a binary 1 is represented by a
100 microsecond burst, whilst a binary 0 is represented by a 200 microsecond burst. CEBus
transmission rate varies with how many 0 characters, and how many 1 characters are transmitted. The
CEBus standard specifies a language of object oriented controls including commands for volume
up/down, temperature up one degree, etc. Due to the high noise level of power line channels, data
should be transmitted via short frames, which is assured by the use of the spread spectrum technology.
CEBus protocol uses a Carrier Sense Multiple Access/Collision Detection and Resolution
(CSMA/CDCR) protocol to avoid data collisions. CEBus is a commercially owned protocol, and thus
attracts registration fees.

Looking closely, the man s frame appears long and bony, paired with tattered clothes. His face looks

Such reports have linked violent video games to both short and long term impacts
Reports Showing Little Impact on Children and Teens
However, more convincing evidence shows that it is only very young children who are affected, and
that older children and teens are relatively unaffected by the violence in their video games.
The reports which show stronger correlations are often flawed.
Even federal government research has failed to find a statistically significant correlation between
increased aggression and violence in video games.
Conclusion
Overall, violence in video games does not seem to impact children as negatively as many had
previously assumed. Violent Video Games and Their Impact on Children
How much is too much? When children are exposed to bloodshed and carnage in their favorite video
games is that too much for them to handle? There are definitely conflicting viewpoints on just how
much violence in video games impact children. Some believe that violence in video games increases
aggression and

The Seventh Man Short Story
The improbable idea of guilt rushes through everyone at one time or another. We often find ourselves
forgiving people or placing blame on ourselves for inadequate reasons. In the story The Seventh Man
by Haruki Murakami, the Seventh Man s best friend K is swept away by a tsunami. For years, The
Seventh Man refuses to forgive himself for the incident. At a young age, he inhabits the quality to run
from fear. Moving to a new town and changing his life, the Seventh Man doesn t learn to forgive
himself till 40 years later when seeing K s paintings. He returns home and becomes at peace with his
loss. At the time of the accident, The Seventh Man was dealing with countless emotions in a brief time
period, furthermore it is irrational for him to have been able to save K. The Seventh Man should
forgive himself for his failed efforts to save his childhood friend. Written in the story The Moral Logic
of Survival Guilt by Nancy Sherman, she explains the feeling of remorse soldiers experience in war
when a fellow soldier dies and they were unable to save them. She calls this survival guilt. Soldiers in
war regularly wonder why they get to live when others tragically died. They have trouble
comprehending what made them lucky enough to live when they consider themselves no more of a
hero than the next guy? In the same manner, The Seventh Man felt a sense of responsibility for his
friends death because he believed he could have stopped it. He feels guilty for not withholding his
moral to

What National Monument Means The Most To Me Analysis
What National Monument Means the Most to Me? The Statue of Liberty that stands on Ellis Island in
New York is very important to me. It represents freedom, hope, the end of slavery, and many more
things. It is a very meaningful national monument that reminds us every day what it really means to be
an American citizen and be apart of this country.
This monument definitely represents freedom for me. I have come to the understanding that in the
past, we were not free. I have learned that us getting our freedom was a huge step into a better future
for our homeland. Another way this represents freedom is the fact that it represented the end of slavery
and honored Abraham Lincoln. Slavery was a very bad time for our country and not a time that we
should be proud of. The fact that Abe Lincoln and many others fought for the end of slavery is very
meaningful. Having the Statue of Liberty represents how very lucky we are ... Show more content on

The New York Harbor was a major port entry for immigrants in 1892. Many immigrants coming from
across the ocean to America thought of Lady Liberty as a symbol that they were free from poverty and
sadness. They saw it as the beginning of a new life in a new country. When they saw the statue, it gave
them a lot of hope, and I find it important that the statue stands for hope in times when we need
something to remind us that we will be safe, no matter the circumstances.
During the American Revolution, France and America had a strong friendship. For that reason, France
and America came up with the idea that they would make a statue to represent America s freedom and
democracy as well as their friendship. So, they conjured up the plan that the Americans would build
the pedestal, while the French were responsible for the statue and its assembly in America. I feel this
is very important because of its representation of our friendship. It s important to have allies and build
something with so much

Thus education should be modeled around creating this hierarchy of participation. His idea was not
universally accepted however, and John Dewey published several compliment pieces countering
Lippmann s claims. Dewey did not argue that
much of the democratic processes as described by Lippmann were problematic.
He
conceded that current models were not ideal.
However, he did reject any solution tha t erected a hierarchy with an amateur/expert citizen binary.
Dewey believed the solution was to provide a better and more holistic education to the public,

It is not necessary that the many should have knowledge and skill to carry on the needed
investigations; what is required is that they hav e the ability to judge the knowledge supplied by others

in current media literacy conversations.
This
sentiment remained the centerpiece of conver sations about student civics education, even as the world
and technology changed. During testimony to a Senate committee, Ted Kennedy argued that, because

Crocs Research Paper
Crocs footwear Crocs, Inc., is indeed a Colorado creator of unique clogs that became popular for the
outdoor person in the late 1990s with both men, women, and children. These inexpensive shoes rely
on a proprietary resin material called Croslite. This helps produce a slip resistant and non marking
sole. The material also softens with body heat activation. This helps for molding the shoe to the foot
and providing a conforming fit. Crocs was meant for guys on boats and in other outdoor activities like
fishing and gardening, because the material of the shoe allows the foot to breathe. Crocs are also used
by working men and women who spend much time on their feet. For example, health care and
restaurant workers. Also, Crocs are widely considered

Women During The 19th Century
Men and women play different roles in society. In the beginning of the 19th century, the gap between
males and females was much larger than it is now. Back then men and women were usually assumed
to have certain occupations. For example, in the 1950s women were supposed to become housewives
and stay at home all day cleaning, cooking, or taking care of their children (Parry 1584). Men on the
other hand, were suspected to go out and work all day doing whatever occupation they held. Due to
the media uprising in the 19th century, women began to feel restrained on what they can accomplish.
They began to care about their appearance more than anything else. This is one of the factors that
created the gender gap, but society has always had the gap that has separated the two. This picture was
taken in California in 1921, and it depicts Dr. Louis Estes helping his daughter put on her boxing
gloves while she gets ready to square up against her little brother. The title of the picture describes the
daughter as husky which does not make sense. The word husky, usually applied to overweight
individuals, does not accurately describe the girl in the photo. It is possible that the author may be
referring to her as more masculine than feminine in the picture. This influential image shows the
daughter as taller than both males in the photo which asserts dominance. Also, both Dr. Estes and his
son s eyes, both lead to the daughter s, which makes her the focal point of the image. Dr. Estes

  • 3. Federal Tax And Federal Income Tax To most, the term federal income tax is just paying the government or money they don t get. But in government and the world of finance, it is major and involved idea which involves a great deal of focus and discussion. The United States federal income tax is a complex system which is a necessary function of the government. A taxable amount is determined on income, and it creates taxation for the government to accumulate money. There are many factors that play into the complexity of the system which developed the processes of the federal income tax today. Understanding this financial system requires a level of insight into the layers of information that the federal income tax entails. Taxation in America has always been a huge factor of societal and governmental focus. The nation started with a hatred for taxes dating back to the tax burden placed on the American colonies by Great Britain. Early in its history, America had few very few taxes. However, it became the major source of revenue for the United States government. The War of 1812 created a higher need for taxation, and initiated the nation s first sales taxes which were placed on gold, silverware, jewelry, and watches. But in 1817 the internal taxes were repealed, and the government relied on tariffs on imported goods for funds. Once again, the onset of war generated a necessity of greater revenue, and in 1862, during the civil war, the nation s first income tax was enacted. This income tax was the foundation to ... The Prisoner s Dilemma is a situation where two prisoners are placed into isolation cells and they can choose to either stay silent or confess. This game of probability that has taken many forms, but the concept is always the same. There are two people who have been arrested and can choose to either remain silent or confess. I first become interested in the prisoner s dilemma while reading The Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton Lee Stewart. The prisoner s dilemma is only briefly touched upon in this novel, but I was intrigued enough to want to peruse a further analysis. In this paper the prisoner s dilemma will be further analyzed using probability prediction methods. The Prisoner s Dilemma was developed in the 1950s by game theorists Dresher and Flood. These theorists were working to determine the possibility of intercontinental nuclear warfare. It was developed during experiments that tested to see how people behaved in particular situations. The original situation surrounded two people deciding whether to buy a car. The introduction of two prisoners to this situation was added by Princeton mathematician A.W. Tucker. A private company ... • 6. The Nazi Party Of Germany The Nazi Party of Germany aimed to create a racially pure society between the years 1933 through to 1945. This society, or Volksgemeinschaft, was to contain Hitler s ideological view on what a pure person, or Aryan should be. It also involved the exclusion of anyone who did not fit this mould. The Nazi party was extremely successful in achieving their highly aimed goal. Through the Nazi s control over youth groups and in children s education, the Nazi Party and Hitler were able to reach this goal in the years 1933 to 1939, and this continued through World War Two till the end of 1945. The Nazi Party convinced children about their ideologies and by doing so paved a path for the new generation to be followers of the Third Reich. Not everyone supported the Nazi regime, but overall it was accepted by society, and the youth groups helped the Nazi party form their ideal society leading up to and during the war. When Hitler became Chancellor and passed the Enabling Act in 1933, it allowed the Nazi Party to have control over Germany. The controlling of the education system allowed the Nazi s to implement their beliefs and ideas in subjects. The Hitler Youth organisations were a way for the Nazi party to groom future supporters and members of the Nazi party. This included future SS members and the future perfect Aryan Nazi family. • 9. The Uniform Resource Locator ( Url ) What are the URL and Cookies? The Uniform Resource Locator (URL) is the first information used to specify or access a page on the worldwide web. It can identify any network resource which has a connection to the Internet, such as text pages, images, music or video links. URL parameters are ones which establish dynamic values for a webpage and can be easily accessed by its template and data source. This makes pages incredibly dynamic, enabling a single page to power an endless number of views (Symphony,2012). For example, the URL of Saint Joseph s University is https://www.sju.edu/. As soon as the parameters in this URL are set, it filters the data source that draws the proper entry from the concepts section. Like we can see the Blackboard URL of SJU is https://learn.sju.edu/. We know that all concept views of this URL are powered by a single page. When we create a website, it is important to keep the URL short and simple one which people will instantly know what content is likely. If you ve done this, then you ve done a great job (Rand, 2008). People can easily remember it and share it with their friends or colleagues by copying and pasting, emailing, or writing it down. • 10. Sean Armstrong s Eros And Psyche To earn a good mark on a test, one must be willing to study continuously, in spite of the hassle of doing so. To win gold in the Olympics, one must be dedicated to the sport and train constantly, despite the difficulty. From the smallest of objectives to the greatest, never has anyone achieved anything important for their lives without commitment and hardship. In Sean Armstrong s short story, Eros and Psyche , these very same attributes are presented in order to acquire love. By Psyche agreeing to accomplish Aphrodite s tasks and facing the jealousy and wrath of the goddess in order to gain back the love of her life, Eros, she has introduced herself to a journey of trials and tribulations. One of the most dangerous of them requires her to obtain some of Persephone s beauty by traveling to the underworld which is considered to be a sentence of death (229). Even with the knowledge that she could possibly be risking her life to fulfill this task, Psyche still undertakes it. This is because she is aware that by completing this task, she will be able to be with the love of her life and giving up now would mean that all her hard work would be in vain. By incorporating a character such as Psyche who displays a persistent characteristic in such an impossible task, Armstrong implies that having a willingness to do something despite its difficulty and pursuing it until the end will always have a reward. Second, Psyche is not only rewarded with Eros, but she is also given the status of a god. When Eros takes Psyche to Olympus after completing her tasks, he convinces Zeus that Psyche has proven her love for [Eros] and therefore let her stay in heaven (230). Psyche earns herself a seat on Olympus due to the fact that she stays committed to accomplishing her given tasks, and in doing so has proven that she is prepared to undergo any task in order to be with Eros which is rewarded with a rightfully earned spot on Olympus. By rewarding Psyche for seeing her tasks through, Armstrong implies that there is a reward in diligence and hard work. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. John Locke s Second Treatise On Civil Government Freedom, a concept essential to the human experience, should have some limitations. In addition, I will explore the definition of freedom, how the power of government is also limited and how these limitations fit into the theories of Hobbes, Locke, and Aristotle. There should be limits to freedom because unlimited freedom can endanger the liberties of others. Without limits to freedom, individuals can use their natural rights to cause harm and hurt others. Freedom, as defined as by John Locke, is to be free from any superior power on earth, and not to be under the will or legislative authority of men. If the individual exists in a society, then Locke theorizes their liberty exists under the legislative power established by consent in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Locke s Second Treatise on Civil Government, the philosopher theorizes on the limitations of freedom. To begin with, Locke makes the critical point that in the state of nature men are perfectly free to order their actions, and dispose of their possessions and themselves, in any way they like, without asking anyone s permission. However this freedom is subject only to limits set by the law of nature. Locke believes that the limitations to freedom are dictated by the law of nature. In Locke s view, everyone is equal in the state of nature, with the same advantages and privileges. Therefore, no individual has the right to abuse the liberty of others, even if they have the freedom and ability to do so. This abuse, termed as license, exists outside the state of nature and Locke believes that this power is not granted to anyone. This is especially important when considering the power of the government. For Locke, the power of the government must be limited to the laws of nature. Once the government starts acting outside the laws of nature, the government becomes illegitimate. Aristotle also feels that freedom should be used for the peace and prosperity of others. In Aristotle s Nicomachean Ethics, there exists two different types of freedom: positive and negative. Negative freedom is the freedom from something, such as barriers or government coercion. Positive freedom, which is recommended by Aristotle, is the freedom to pursue an end. For Aristotle, the ideal end is a complete life, full of virtue. This life, full of happiness and friendship, does not exist to harm or foul to others. Without these limitations, positive freedom would not be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. The Welfare Of Foreign Workers The welfare of foreign workers in Singapore is not taken care of seriously. Welfare refers to a person or a groups happiness, health and well being. In this essay, I will be looking it from three different perspectives of why the welfare is not taken care of seriously. Firstly, the treatment they received, next, the food they eat and lastly the living conditions that they stay in. In Singapore, there are around 1.32 million of foreign workers. Majority take up low skilled jobs, for example construction workers and domestic helpers. These jobs are called the 3D jobs, which means it is dirty, dangerous and difficult. They act as an invisible backbone to many well developing and fast growing economic countries as they build our houses and roads which are essential in a country. As they take up jobs that Singaporeans are not willing to do, we are obliged to treat them better. Or at least give them the basic rights and respect. However, people do not treat them the way they should. There are many incidents of people mistreating foreign workers in Singapore. This includes not giving them enough dignity and also abuse. In Unattended Foreign Maid, Migrant Workers Singapore (2009), it mentions that a poster was pasted outside a local food court, with the words THIS IS NOT THE WAITING AREA FOR FOREIGN MAID.UNATTENDED FOREIGN MAID WILL BE HANDED TO THE SECURITY on it. • 15. Motif Of Night In Macbeth In Shakespeare s Macbeth, the motif of night is aggressive like the murders they plot and commit. Night dominates day throughout the play since they commit murders which disrupt the natural order of the world. Macbeth plays God by taking someone else s life and therefore they challenge the Elizabethan order of the world. Acts of chaos, like earthquakes and supernatural events, break loose. Macbeth and Lady Macbeth think the night will cover their treacherous deeds. At first, the idea of murdering Duncan frightens Macbeth, but after he kills the two guards, he begins to lose his humanity. In the beginning, Lady Macbeth feels no remorse for the deaths they are responsible for but as the play progresses, Lady Macbeth starts to feel remorse for her and her husband s actions. Although Lady Macbeth and Macbeth hope the night will conceal their sins, instead it illuminates their actions and worsens their guilt. Their actions can never fully hide since they disrupt the natural order of the world and cause chaos. Lady Macbeth and Macbeth call on the night before Duncan s and Banquo s murders and hope that its darkness will be enough to cover the evil deeds they are about to commit. Before Duncan s murder, Lady Macbeth asks the witches to thicken her blood so she does not feel remorse or guilt. A Brief Note On Poland s Solidarity Movement Poland s Solidarity Movement in 1989 The Cold War was a state of political hostility characterized by threats, propaganda and other measures short of open warfare, as defined by Google Dictionary. These 1989 Cold War Revolutions largely impacted the world and for many regions, opened up an opportunity to express a new perspective towards the challenges that were taking place throughout these countries. Poland, the Philippines, Chile, South Africa, Ukraine and China were all apart of these non violent overthrows of various dictatorships. Each region endured various types of discrimination and exploitation throughout the Cold Wars end. Whether it was economic exploitation, political discrimination, or the violation of human and civil rights, non violent revolutions rose throughout Eastern Europe. The book, 1989 Democratic Revolutions at the Cold War s End, written by Padriac Kenney, analyzes these overthrows and discusses the outcomes for each region. For Poland, more specifically, these non violent strikes began when they first came under the control of the Soviet Union in 1948. However, their resistance began in 1944, when the Soviet Union had just began liberating Polish territory. Starting off with an armed resistance from 1944 to 1947 and ending with the Solidarity movement in 1989, Poland finally had control of the government from the Communists. In July of 2012, it was found that 41% of the population of Perth was for Elizabeth Quay, while 36% did not think it was a good idea. Interestingly, it was found that liberal and green supporters were more in favour of the project than labor supporters. Many of those not in favour of the project believe that it does little for Australian heritage and that it isn t worth the disruption of traffic that would be caused by the closing of Riverside drive during the building period. It is also thought that many people in Perth are in fear of change; that they want it to stay the same sleepy town that it had been in the past. But in opposition to this, supporters of the project have rightly stated that Perth is the fastest growing city in Australia, and change is inevitable to support all the requirements of a large population. Negative impact 2: The appeal of the areas around the Elizabeth Quay development may have been affected due to noise, pollution, smoke and dust in the air and increased traffic congestion. • 21. The Collapse Of The Soviet Empire And Its Hegemony We often overlook the real causes of the downfall of the Soviet empire and its hegemony, and simply tie it to the fact that they were communist, dictatorial regimes. However, this is not entirely true. There were many factors that resulted in the demise of this socialist conglomerate, and East Germany in particular. The GDR was a special case in that it was racked by some of the worst economic circumstances that any of the Eastern bloc faced, and as result, became the first to fall. Such assumptions compel us to draw equivalencies between the GDR and other communist countries like Yugoslavia, even though East Germany was at a much more disadvantageous position. The East German military also had to provide the bulk of the non Soviet forces in all Warsaw Pact military plans. This forced the GDR government to forcibly conscript large numbers of their population and spend vast quantities of their funds on military hardware. These elements combined to start the GDR on a slippery slope towards default, and economic turmoil. The first aspect that I will focus on is the grossly disproportionate amount of money that the East German government spent on its military capacity. Initially, the USSR was the only military force in postwar East Germany. The Soviets forbade the new communist state an armed forces, but as the costs of keeping up a substantial presence began to add up, the Soviet military took notice. Criminal disenfranchisement, while currently upheld by Supreme Court review, has a growing base of supporters for the overturning of such exclusionary practices. In fact, according to a recent study, the majority of the mass public, between 52 and 80 percent depending on the crime committed, vastly supports the re enfranchisement of previously convicted felons not currently imprisoned (Manza, Brooks, Uggen, 2003). State laws restricting the rights of a convicted felon to vote, even after completing a penal sentence remain inconsistent, at best. The disparity between the states application of the varying degrees of criminal disenfranchisement raises concerns over the validity of the actions when affecting a federal voting right; the ability to vote in a federal election is being mandated by the states, without direction, structure or federal oversight. When the Constitution was written, only white male property owners (about 10 to 16 percent of the nation s population) had the right to vote (Crews, 2007). While over the past two centuries the perseverance and machinations of checks and balances of power within the government have transformed the United States into a government by the people, criminal disenfranchisement penalties remain vastly unchanged until recently due to power entrusted to each state to govern its people. In the novel And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie, it is apparent that the female characters are portrayed in a manner that is both derogatory and stereotypical. Throughout And Then There Were None, the female characters are described through hurtful stereotypes, objectification, and psychotic behaviors that may not be appropriate for impressionable young minds to be reading about, despite others suggesting otherwise. A Brief Note On Consumer Electronics Bus ( Cebus ) 2.3 ii) CeBus technology Consumer Electronics Bus (CEBus), a standard proposed by the Electronic Industries Association, is based on the concept of Local Area Networks (LAN s). CEBus based products consist mainly of a transceiverwhich implements spread spectrum technology along with a controller to run the protocol. The given protocol standards are for radio frequency, twisted pair, power line communication and a number of other networking methods. The CEBus PLDT standard specifies that a binary digit is represented by how long a frequency burst is applied to the channel i.e, a binary 1 is represented by a 100 microsecond burst, whilst a binary 0 is represented by a 200 microsecond burst. CEBus transmission rate varies with how many 0 characters, and how many 1 characters are transmitted. The CEBus standard specifies a language of object oriented controls including commands for volume up/down, temperature up one degree, etc. Due to the high noise level of power line channels, data should be transmitted via short frames, which is assured by the use of the spread spectrum technology. CEBus protocol uses a Carrier Sense Multiple Access/Collision Detection and Resolution (CSMA/CDCR) protocol to avoid data collisions. The improved financial status of the railroad has allowed the rail industry to provide a more tailored service to its customers. The same should apply in regards to employee productivity ratio where it was presupposed that CBN would provided supervision, not the companies providing the equipment, as it would help increase productivity. If CBN doesn t achieve the target ratio, it must pay a penalty for the productivity gap. As cost reduction is the important benefit sought from an agreement of this nature, CBN and the companies its leasing from should agree to work towards reductions in total cost through continuous improvement processes and technological improvements. The agreement would allow both parties to share benefits according to a predetermined formula. It would also provide for shared labour and material cost escalation. Both teams would be responsible for finding alternatives to improve the program. For example, by improving shop operations or methods of scheduling locomotives for maintenance. The teams would also determine the best methods for continuous improvements of benefit sharing which may be in the form of parts credits, rebates, rate adjustments or other methods. 3. Do you think that the decision to lease the locomotives was the best decision for CBN? Explain your answer. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 45. What National Monument Means The Most To Me Analysis What National Monument Means the Most to Me? The Statue of Liberty that stands on Ellis Island in New York is very important to me. It represents freedom, hope, the end of slavery, and many more things. It is a very meaningful national monument that reminds us every day what it really means to be an American citizen and be apart of this country. This monument definitely represents freedom for me. I have come to the understanding that in the past, we were not free. I have learned that us getting our freedom was a huge step into a better future for our homeland. Another way this represents freedom is the fact that it represented the end of slavery and honored Abraham Lincoln. Slavery was a very bad time for our country and not a time that we should be proud of. The fact that Abe Lincoln and many others fought for the end of slavery is very meaningful. Having the Statue of Liberty represents how very lucky we are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The New York Harbor was a major port entry for immigrants in 1892. Many immigrants coming from across the ocean to America thought of Lady Liberty as a symbol that they were free from poverty and sadness. They saw it as the beginning of a new life in a new country. When they saw the statue, it gave them a lot of hope, and I find it important that the statue stands for hope in times when we need something to remind us that we will be safe, no matter the circumstances. During the American Revolution, France and America had a strong friendship. For that reason, France and America came up with the idea that they would make a statue to represent America s freedom and democracy as well as their friendship. So, they conjured up the plan that the Americans would build the pedestal, while the French were responsible for the statue and its assembly in America. I feel this is very important because of its representation of our friendship. It s important to have allies and build something with so much ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

At the time of our nation s foundi ng, Thomas Jefferson believed a reading public meant a better educated, therefore more actively democratic , public. Students training in citizenship began with their literacy. He and Horace Mann s first attempts to codify an American public school system w ere designed around this philosophy. Thus education should be modeled around creating this hierarchy of participation. His idea was not universally accepted however, and John Dewey published several compliment pieces countering Lippmann s claims. Dewey did not argue that much of the democratic processes as described by Lippmann were problematic. He conceded that current models were not ideal. However, he did reject any solution tha t erected a hierarchy with an amateur/expert citizen binary. Dewey believed the solution was to provide a better and more holistic education to the public, therefore enriching the public s ability to discern media messages a nd avoid manufacture d consent (Whipple) . Dew ey stated In the Public Its Problems , It is not necessary that the many should have knowledge and skill to carry on the needed investigations; what is required is that they hav e the ability to judge the knowledge supplied by others upon common concerns. This emphasis on education leading to discursive, analytical students echoes in current media literacy conversations. • 49. Women During The 19th Century Men and women play different roles in society. In the beginning of the 19th century, the gap between males and females was much larger than it is now. Back then men and women were usually assumed to have certain occupations. For example, in the 1950s women were supposed to become housewives and stay at home all day cleaning, cooking, or taking care of their children (Parry 1584). Men on the other hand, were suspected to go out and work all day doing whatever occupation they held. Due to the media uprising in the 19th century, women began to feel restrained on what they can accomplish. They began to care about their appearance more than anything else. This is one of the factors that created the gender gap, but society has always had the gap that has separated the two. This picture was taken in California in 1921, and it depicts Dr. Louis Estes helping his daughter put on her boxing gloves while she gets ready to square up against her little brother. The title of the picture describes the daughter as husky which does not make sense. The word husky, usually applied to overweight individuals, does not accurately describe the girl in the photo. It is possible that the author may be referring to her as more masculine than feminine in the picture. This influential image shows the daughter as taller than both males in the photo which asserts dominance. Also, both Dr. Estes and his son s eyes, both lead to the daughter s, which makes her the focal point of the image. Dr. Estes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
