States. It was the talk of every news stations and newspapers. These two men, Neil Armstrong and
Buzz Aldrin had risked their lives to do something the whole world had not done before. They

decades skeptics have been conjuring up hundreds of theories to try and prove that on July 20, 1969,
man did in fact, not step foot on the surface of the moon. Could what is perhaps the United States'
greatest individual achievement be nothing but some Hollywood antics? Disbelievers of the amazing
Apollo 11 feat have been voicing their opinion on the topic ever since the original photos and videos
were publicly released nearly half a century ago. Many people believe that the famous scenes of
Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin bounding across the "moon's" surface were actually just staged
videos shot on a Hollywood movie set. Questions have arisen such as how was the flag that
Armstrong and Aldrin planted blowing in the wind if there is no wind in space? Why is there what
appears to be multiple light sources on the surface of the moon casting shadows in several different
directions? Why is there clearly no visible stars in a picture taken from the surface of the moon?

For years the thought of landing on the moon and coming back safely seemed impossible. Before
Apollo 11 it was impossible. America proved everyone wrong in the world. It started in 1963 and

Apollo 11 was a laudable event in history which altered the world perpetually. This event opened
many new avenues and changed relationships between nations for a few minutes in time. The launch
gave hope to the world which impacted it in numerous ways. Through viewing four articles about
this event, the reader's eyes are opened to the authors' different viewpoints, the way they convey
their ideas, and the purpose of their text. The aspiration of "Man Takes First Steps on the Moon", by
an unknown author, published in The Times of London is to convey the events of the Apollo 11
mission and to communicate the excitement it spread through the world. "The two astronauts opened
the hatch of their lunar module at 3:39 A.M. in preparation for Neil Armstrong's walk." The author
presents the reader with exact information on what took place on the moon and what the astronauts
accomplished. Even though the article describes the events that took place on the moon, back on
earth the nations were celebrating. This was a tremendous breakthrough, not only for America, but

On July 16, 1969, the Saturn V rocket carrying the crew of Apollo 11 launched from Cape Kennedy.
The crew inside the rocket included Commander Neil Armstrong, Command Module Pilot Michael
Collins and Lunar Module Pilot Edwin Aldrin. Apollo 11 reached moon's orbit on July 19. A day
later, the lunar module piloted by Aldrin detached from the command/service module and began its
descent on the surface after 13 orbits around the moon. As planned, the module landed in the Sea of
Tranquility, where Armstrong and Aldrin were supposed to rest for four hours before starting their
first extravehicular activity; however, the plan was altered so that Armstrong and Aldrin could begin
