Buzz Aldrin Apollo 11
T minus 10...9...8...7! Blast off, the force of 7.6 million pounds thrusting you into the air. The Apollo
11 was blasting off. Buzz aldrin experiences this first hand. Though hundreds experience from the
ground. See how buzz felt before and during lift off, and how the people on the ground felt and saw.
In the article by Buzz Aldrin he tells of the launch about to come and happening. Though it was
three hours away, you could tell how excited and nervous he was. Then he shared a sad story of
what happened to some other astronauts. Specifically – Gus Grissom, Roger Chaffee, and Ed
White– They died at a pre launch when there capsule burst into flames. He skips ahead to the launch
telling of how he felt. One thing I thought was interesting was

Rhetorical Analysis On Apollo 11
Authors, people, and writers over time have used the available means of persuasion and making sure
that they include what the rhetorical situation is. In the four texts about the 1969 Apollo 11 mission
that talk about the first humans that landed on the moon, all were effective due to them showing
ethos, pathos, logos, and soaps which are the rhetorical appeals that one has to use when making an
argument in a rhetorical situation. In the first given text, it talks about an article written by the Times
called Man Takes First Steps on the Moon. The article shows soaps because it states who the speaker
is which is "the Times", it also shows what the occasion is which is to inform everyone in the world
that Neil Armstrong was the first man to ever walk on the moon. The audience in this text would be
everyone in the world because it was such a big event that happened that was considered "one giant
leap for mankind". The purpose of this text was to notify the world that Apollo 11 mission had
successfully landed on the moon. The subject of the text was about the moon landing in 1969 that
was accomplished. This article that the Times wrote also shows ethos. This text shows ethos because
it proves that it is credible and trustworthy because of everyone the Times included to mention what
their perspective of this event was to them. In the article, it states what Armstrong and Aldrin say
when they land on the moon and it states the exact time it happened, this is an example of logos
because they are giving the audience specific details and facts of the moon landing. When important
people all around the world gave their opinion of the moon landing itself showed pathos because of
what they said. They all felt different things when they saw Armstrong first land on the moon, these
can be described as their emotions. In the text, it claims that Mr. Harold Wilson said in a televised
statement, "our deep wish for a safe return at the end of what has been a most historic scientific
achievement in the history of man." This means that he was hoping that everyone in the Apollo 11
mission came back home safely, this also shows pathos. The second given text is a written speech
called In Event of Moon Disaster by William

Ethos Of Apollo 11
In 1969, the Apollo 11 launch happened and became something rightfully important to the United
States. It was the talk of every news stations and newspapers. These two men, Neil Armstrong and
Buzz Aldrin had risked their lives to do something the whole world had not done before. They
became the first men to walk the moon and this became something historical. After walking the
moon, they placed the American flag on it too, and to this day it is still there. With all the
newspapers talking about this, one that caught people's eyes was the Man Takes First Steps on The
Moon. The audience was the people who were concerned about the first man landing on outer space.
This was something abnormal at the time and nobody really had a clue how a human body can
manage this. Also, this event was used to see the improvement of human success and what they have
been capable of doing. Regarding space, it wasn't something that was really used, it was more like
an illusion and seemed so close but far away at the same time. This text used ethos, and logos to
support information about the moon's successful landing and provide it for the audience. For logos,
the fact that a well–known newspaper publisher such as the Times wrote about it shows that it is a
reliable source. Also that fact that the story was well–written and full of facts to make the audience
believe it more. With pathos, the kind of emotion, it was giving the audience was more about
happiness and being proud of the US for their

The Discovery Of The Amazing Apollo 11 Feat

History or Hoax? "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind." Or was it? For
decades skeptics have been conjuring up hundreds of theories to try and prove that on July 20, 1969,
man did in fact, not step foot on the surface of the moon. Could what is perhaps the United States'
greatest individual achievement be nothing but some Hollywood antics? Disbelievers of the amazing
Apollo 11 feat have been voicing their opinion on the topic ever since the original photos and videos
were publicly released nearly half a century ago. Many people believe that the famous scenes of
Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin bounding across the "moon's" surface were actually just staged
videos shot on a Hollywood movie set. Questions have arisen such as how was the flag that
Armstrong and Aldrin planted blowing in the wind if there is no wind in space? Why is there what
appears to be multiple light sources on the surface of the moon casting shadows in several different
directions? Why is there clearly no visible stars in a picture taken from the surface of the moon?
One curious skeptic explains his opinions about why man did not set foot on the moon and exposes
a multitude of NASA mistakes. After a detailed study late in the year 2012, it was discovered that
nearly 20% of American citizens do not actually think that the Apollo 11 mission ever took place
outside of Earth's atmosphere (Fox 1). A long time cynic, Josh Fox, takes a

Apollo 11 Persuasive Speech
To be able to persuade someone comes in many benefits since it shows the audience the other
perspective they can be looking at. Talking about perspectives, these articles/speeches are all
primary sources which expresses the emotional feelings that are being told. Using specific
techniques that are made over years cause the writer to be flexible to their own audience, so that
they can persuade the one who's reading or hearing. Using 2 types of ways that could've or that did
happened makes the writer find way to emotionally catch one's attention with reason or logic. Which
then leads to descriptive writing about the Apollo 11 launch being a persuasive text for the imagery
it gives for the viewers. Visual Images can be a great way to point out obvious instead of writing
paragraph, such as text 4 that talks about the truth that happened between societies. To use events in
a persuasive reading/writing would be a great way to find an opening for an incomer for the rhetoric
writing given. By using the Moon Landing as the subject, it contains many evidence from a primary
source so that one would be able to look into it and learn more than an usual articles. When being
descriptive it cases an image to mind which follows up to what's exactly doing such as the phrase "It
was 3.56 a.m. (British Standard time) when Armstrong stepped off the ladder from Eagle and onto
the moon's surface. The module's hatch had opened at 3.39 a.m." Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin
photographed each other getting off the aircraft which then led to them to showing President Nixon
being astonished of what has happened. If the Moon landing was a disaster, they had a specific
speech ready for the ones who have lost their lives of the disaster. To honor someone in a big
accomplishment is something important, To honor someone who sacrificed is respectful, To honor
someone who gave it all they got for an important cause is noble. Using Buzz Aldrin and Neil
Armstrong are the main factor in this speech for one can pay their respects for what they have done.
Giving respect for those 2 brave men causes emotional part of William Safire's speech which led to
him describing them as heroes for one another. Although the people would've been sad about

Apollo 11 Research Paper
Ever since humanity has been able to look up and view the stars, forever gaining a better view,
mankind has desired to go to space. Slowly gaining the ability of mobility, mankind has invented the
wheel, then the automobile, and then aircraft. However, what lies in our recent past is the greatest
achievement in reaching new frontiers so far – that is, reaching the moon. The Apollo 11 is
responsible for accomplishing the basic mission of the Apollo Program; that is, to land two men on
the lunar surface and return them safely to earth. "The long countdown for the voyage to the moon
began in the spring of 1961, in the fourth year of the Space Age." America found itself humiliated

We feel that this stands as a symbol of the insatiable curiosity of all mankind to explore the
unknown," and at 12:22 P.M. Thursday, the astronauts jettisoned the Service Module to start the
final descent from 400,000 feet into the Earth's atmosphere in which they would travel 24,000 miles
an hour. Then the Earth's air gripped at the spacecraft, slowing its speed. Within minutes, the
astronauts were in the water 950 miles southwest of Hawaii – home safe from man's first trip to the
moon. The recovery aircraft carrier then picked up the astronauts, then adorned in biological
isolation garments as a quarantine procedure, and carried them to a mobile isolation trailer for a
checkup. President Nixon stood about 3 feet away from them speaking through a microphone, he
said: "Neil, Buzz and Mike, ... I have the privilege of speaking for so many in welcoming you back
to Earth. ...[Over 100 nations around the world] have had the opportunity to see what you have
done."
Following the recovery of the astronauts, it became clear that America had emerged ahead in the
Cold War, and therefore, a world leader in space and technology. The United States only reaffirmed
its stand as a world power, and the dreams of many to reach the moon had finally become a reality.
Science and technology became highly valued fields to study and the sixties itself was remembered
as the decade of space exploration. Nationalism peaked right after the mission came to a close, and

Persuasive Essay On Apollo 11
On May 25, 1961, President John F. Kennedy set a national a national goal to complete a crewed
lunar landing on the Moon and return them to Earth safely. He made a special joint session of
Congress on May 25, 1961 and said, "I believe this nation should commit itself to achieving the
goal, before this decade is out, of landing a man on the moon and returning him safely to Earth."
This soon became the primary objective of Apollo 11. On July 16, 1969, two brave men, by the
names of Neil Armstrong (1930–2012) and "Buzz Aldrin" (1930–), traveled to a previously
unexplored terrain. Apollo 11 was an extremely dangerous journey. During the trip to the moon, the
United States encountered many hardships and complications. It took 42 failed attempts prior to the

Neil A. Armstrong was born in Wapakoneta, Ohio, on August 5, 1930. Armstrong became a naval
aviator from 1949 to 1952 and Armstrong joined the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics
in 1955. His first assignment was with the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics Lewis
Research Center in Cleveland. Over the next 17 years, he was an engineer, test pilot, astronaut, and
administrator for the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics and its successor agency, the
National Aeronautics and Space Administration. As a research pilot at NASA's Flight Research
Center, he was a test pilot for many pioneering high speed aircraft, including the 4000–mph X–15.
He has flown over 250 different models of known aircrafts including jets, rockets, and gliders.
Armstrong became an official astronaut in 1962. He was assigned command pilot for the Gemini 8
space mission. Gemini 8 launched on March 16, 1966, and Armstrong performed the first successful
docking of two vehicles in space. As the space commander of Apollo 11, Armstrong

Rhetorical Language In Apollo 11
What I will be doing in this essay is using all my knowledge of rhetorical language and analyze four
pieces of literature. Over the past weeks I have learned many skills and what makes up a good
persuasive piece and what doesn't make a good persuasive piece and I will put all my knowledge
about rhetoric language to use. The four pieces I will be analyzing are all related to the Apollo 11
mission, which took place in 1969 which put humans on the moon for the first time,I will discuss the
purpose, how it adjusts to their own audience they are trying to appeal to, how the speaker and
subject affects the text, how it appeals to pathos, ethos, and logos , and finally if it is effective in
accomplishing its purpose.
The first text I will be analyzing is a news article from the Times of London reporting the event. It
was made right after the moon mission on a 5 a.m. edition of the paper. The landing of the shuttle
was at 3:39 a.m.and Neil Armstrong took his first steps at 3:56 a.m. so the newspaper was made
shortly right after. It was made for the citizens of London to give more information about the Apollo
11 mission and moon landing and talked about all the big things that happened. The speaker,
occasion, and subject all effect the text by making it informational and providing the citizens with
the big information that happened. It got into people's emotions by creating hype and making it
seem like a huge deal with starting off with the details and getting more intense with

The speaker of this text is William Safire. The occasion also has to do with the moon landing, but it
talks about what would have been said by President Nixon's speechwriter if the mission was not
successful. The audience would be the entire world, because it would have been a tragedy if it was
not accomplished Safire would have told everyone in the planet about it. The purpose of this text
would have been to let everyone know about the fatal deaths that happened in the attempt to have
landed on the moon and to also let everyone know how they feel about losing these souls and that
they would always be remembered. The subject of the text is to notify everyone in the world about
the failure of the moon landing. Ethos is shown in the text because it is proving that it is credible
and trustworthy since this would have been said by someone that President Nixon knew. Pathos is
also displayed in the text because it claims that, " They will be mourned by their families and
friends; they will be mourned by their nation; they will be mourned by the people of the world; they
will be mourned by a mother Earth that dared send two of her sons into the unknown." This proves
that there is emotions and everyone would have been very sorrowful and depressed for the lives that
had just been lost. Logos is shown in the text by stating the year in which it was released and since it
said it was "prepared" then that means that it was written ahead of time before it was released,

The Apollo 11 's Mission
From countdown to splashdown, Apollo 11 's mission was filled with some surprising twists and
turns. It took a combination of luck, determination and guts for the crew of Michael Collins, Buzz
Aldrin, and Neil Armstrong to get the Eagle to the surface of the moon with only 30 seconds of fuel
remaining! Experience the moments leading up to the lunar landing with me. On the morning of
July 16, 1969 a 60–ton Saturn 5 rocket was given a thorough inspection on launch pad 39–A at the
Kennedy Space Center. On board, Four and half tons of fuel, and a spider–shaped spaceship covered
with gold and silver foil.
The Apollo 11 mission played an important role in the shaping of science and technology and it
stands as a testament to mankind 's ability to achieve greatness in spite of seemingly overwhelming
challenges and obstacles. The Apollo 11 moon landing was a significant event that showed what
humanity could accomplish. The success of Apollo 11 came at a time when American society was in
crisis. Some people argue that this achievement of landing on the moon was mainly to beat the
Russians to it in the space race and how the achievement was born out of hatred and distrust. This is
not necessarily true, a growing fear of adjusting to a world in which United States technology and
leadership was perceived as second best. The Apollo 11 mission had a profound impact in the
advancement of science and technology and the evolution of space exploration. It 's clear that Apollo

Comparison And Cons Of Apollo 11
"It has a stark beauty all its own. It's like much of the high desert of the United States. It's different
but it's very pretty out here"–Neil Armstrong. The Apollo 11 was the first mission to send men to the
moon and have them take a step on another planetary body. The objective of this mission was to
complete a national goal of a lunar landing determined by President John F. Kennedy. People all
around the world were anxiously waiting to witness the mission fail or succeed; everyone had heard
about it from newspapers to the television, and even going to see Apollo 11 launch in person. Two
articles had been made to show the dangerous circumstances Armstrong and Aldrin would have
faced outside of Earth in the unknown outer space. Another article shows the success of the two men
sacrificing their lives to achieve something no man has ever done. "In Event of Moon Disaster" and
"The July 16, 1969, Launch: A Symbol of Man's Greatness" are two articles that have different
purposes that display how effective they have been, are affected by speaker, audience, and subject,
and each article appeal to its own senses of logos, ethos, and pathos."The biggest benefit of Apollo
was the inspiration it gave to a growing generation to get into science and aerospace–Buzz Aldrin."
Nevertheless, the two purposes of these articles are distinct, but they have remarkable similarities.

Apollo 11 was our first mission to the moon, it also was the first time anyone had landed on the
moon. An accomplishment like this doesn't just pass by it explodes in the news around the world,
and it also brought us new military and technology applications. Apollo 11's influence extended far
past the social aspect and was also present in military, and in capitalism. Within capitalism it
brought many new products, ideas into the consumer world. In the media Apollo 11 had a huge
influence in the American media because we were the first country to put a man on the moon, and
bring them back. The reason people liked this so much is because we beat out the Russians in the

companies like Intel Corp. may not have been founded. The technology from Apollo 11 and NASA
wasn't only useful for consumer purposes but also for military. "A little told story is how much
NASA, from the Cold War up through the late '80s or early '90s affected technology"
(ComputerWorld). As he made his way down the module's ladder, a television camera attached to
the craft recorded his progress and beamed the signal back to Earth, where hundreds of millions
watched in great anticipation. At 10:56 p.m., as Armstrong stepped off the ladder and planted his
foot on the moon's powdery surface, he spoke his famous quote, which he later contended was
slightly garbled by his microphone and meant to be "that's one small step for a man, one giant leap
for mankind"(history.com). That snippet is important because now a days we might not think
anything of talking to some one far away but back then it was a huge technological feat to not only
hear them but also see them and there actions as they do them. People dont thunk all that much
about their cell phones but did you know, the computing technology of the average cell phone far
exceeds the combined computing power of the two spacecraft that got humans to the moon and

The Mission Of Apollo 11
Apollo 11 One single mission changed mankind forever, the Apollo 11 Mission. Apollo 11 was an
unforgettable accomplishment for the United States and the entire globe. The historical achievement
of landing successfully on the moon and leaving footprints, sparked a change in technology,
knowledge, and society for the better. This achievement took place on July 20, 1969, Neil
Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins successfully landed on the moon, creating history by
taking the first steps on another planet (Loff). The astronauts brought back samples of the moon,
amongst other things, expanding America's knowledge. Therefore, it helped to improve our
technology further, impacted society forever, and left a monumental impact on America's knowledge
of the moon,
Pre Apollo 11, was the Space Race between the United States and the Soviet Union. The Space Race
was a Cold War competition between the two countries. Sputnik is what sparked the start of the
Space Race in 1957. The Soviet's launch of the satellite Sputnik 1 shocked the United States and the
rest of the world (Griggs). "The Soviet launch of the first Sputnik satellite was one accomplishment
in a string of technological successes. Few in the United States had anticipated it, and even those
who did were not aware of just how impressive it would be" (history.state.gov). Thus, encouraging
the United States to get ahead of the game by President Eisenhower pouring additional funds into

The Mission Of Apollo 11
On July 20, 1969, humanity did itself proud in spite of all its wars, sadism, hatred, and insanity. We
set foot on another planet. Men walked on the moon. This changed our belief in what we could
accomplish.
On July 20, 1969, the lunar module landed. Humanity did itself proud on that day. Until now
nothing this big had ever been accomplished. The dream of traveling to the moon was already
centuries old when the second World War ended in 1945. The primary objective of Apollo 11 was to
complete a national goal set by President John F. Kennedy on May 25, 1961: perform a crewed lunar
landing and return to Earth. Apollo 11 would be the mission to achieve the goal that President
Kennedy had laid down, with more than five months to spare before the end–of–decade deadline.
On July 19, after Apollo 11 had flown behind the moon out of contact with Earth, came the first
lunar orbit insertion maneuver. At about 75 hours, 50 minutes into the flight, a retrograde firing of
the SPS for 357.5 seconds placed the spacecraft into an initial, elliptical–lunar orbit of 69 by 190
miles. Later, a second burn of the SPS for 17 seconds placed the docked vehicles into a lunar orbit
of 62 by 70.5 miles, which was calculated to change the orbit of the CSM piloted by Collins. The
change happened because of lunar–gravity perturbations to the nominal 69 miles required for
subsequent LM rendezvous and docking after completion of the lunar landing. Before this second
SPS firing, another TV transmission was

Rhetorical Analysis Of The Apollo 11
In 1969, the Apollo 11 disembarked the first people on the moon. Because of this remarkable
achievement, articles, speeches, commentaries, and political cartoons would undoubtedly talk about
the event. They, however, would not all talk about the subject in the same way. Although they may
not all be on the same page they had to address their topic carefully as to appeal to the audience.
Using rhetoric can aid in delivering their message in a way that's effective. The use of rhetoric
appeals can strengthen the message that they're trying to convey. Whether it would be the use of
SOAPS or the appeals of ethos, logos, and pathos they would both serve the purpose of improving
their way of delivering the point of the message in such a way that would be effectual. The first text
titled Man Takes First Steps on the Moon, by the Times, is a news article that describes the
astronauts' first steps on the moon along with some feedback from Neil Armstrong. The purpose of
this article is to inform the audience of a grand achievement that happened. It does it in a way where
the reader can follow through of the events as it unfolded. The article interacts with the reader by
providing the exact time that the events occurred. Whilst the speaker was providing descriptions of
said events. The subject of the article affects the way it is written by shaping how the information is
given; the article contained input from Armstrong, the way the landing was executed, as well as the

Apollo 11 : An Annual Holiday For Americans
For years the thought of landing on the moon and coming back safely seemed impossible. Before
Apollo 11 it was impossible. America proved everyone wrong in the world. It started in 1963 and
was a long term project. There were many attempts but were failed. NASA never gave up on this
idea because they thought it was achievable and were devoted to landing on another atmosphere. I
think we should have a national holiday on July sixteenth every year to celebrate the people who
contributed to this goal. We should also celebrate all of the technological advancements that were
created in this mission. Landing on the moon is a day worth remembering. A few things we use in
our life were advancements created in the Apollo 11 mission. Apollo 11 should be an annual holiday
for Americans to honor those who contributed. In the beginning going to the moon was impossible,
but America took on the challenge. "The primary objective of Apollo 11 was to complete a national
goal set by President John F. Kennedy on May 25, 1961: perform a crewed lunar landing and return
to Earth" (Blake). This goal was imagined and was talked about way before 1961 but on May 25 we
stated that we were going to the moon and now we had to go through with it. John F. Kennedy made
sure of it too. He asked congress to support funds to this project. When it was launched it was
broadcasted on television for millions to watch. It was the event of the century. The space ship was

Apollo 11 Pros And Cons
Over the past 48 years, there has been quite a bit of controversy and speculation about the Apollo 11
moon landing. This supposedly was the first time the United States successfully sent two people,
mission commander Neil Armstrong, and his pilot Buzz Aldrin, to the moon. The two men spent 21
hours and 36 minutes of the moon's surface, and steaked the American flag on the moon. They also
had photographs and video footage taken of them by NASA. These photos caused many people and
also many conspiracy theorist, to look deeper into these doubtful images.
Many people believed and still believe that NASA was lying to us about what actually happened all
those years ago. Most of the speculation was geared towards the photos and videos taken while on
the moon's surface. One of the most controversial photos of Apollo 11 mission was the waving of
the flag. In an article by Josh Fox on Listverse.com, he tells us "when the first moon landing was
shown on TV, viewers could see the American flag waving as Neil Armstrong and his pilot Buzz
Aldrin places it on the moon's surface. Pictures of the landing also seem to show the flag flowing in
the wind. The problem with that is there is no air on the moon's atmosphere, so that means there is
no way the flag could be blowing.¨ Even with the flag waving in this photo, there was another thing
that caught the attention of him and many other people, it was the lack of stars. In this image, there
seems to be no stars at all. In another picture

Apollo 11 launched from Cape Kennedy on July 16, 1969, carrying Commander Neil

How can this be? NASA explained that no crater was expected. Beneath the 2–4 inches of moon
dust is a layer of solid rock, and the ship's engines blew the dust away as it landed on the remaining
rock. Blasting a crater in such rock was not possible. Photos and movies taken during final descents
clearly show this scattering of moon dust.
The third claim of the theory was American flags planted on the moon appear to be slightly waving
in a breeze, but of course there are no breezes on the lunar surface NASA says this is a common
misconception, even among non–conspiracists. The flags only seemed to flutter when the astronauts

loved staying home to take care of the new babies, but there was never a question that she would
return to work as soon as possible" (65). Dorothy's passion for her job, though a burden to her
family and friends, allowed her to excel and contribute more to flight calculations. Likewise, "Mary
decided to lend her trained eye and her understanding of aerodynamics to help her son, Levi, build a
car to enter the Virginia Peninsula 1960 soap box derby" (153). Just like Mary used her creativity to
help her son win the car derby, her strong interest in math helped her develop more ideas to make
Supersonic airplanes more efficient. Lastly, "for Katherine, doing her job meant quietly sharing the
joy when missions went well, as well as grieving with the others when missions failed" (191). The
passion Katherine demonstrated towards NASA's success inspired her to achieve aeronautic
superiority. In addition to passion and dedication, resilience was a key factor in the women's

Apollo 11 : A Symbol Of Man's Greatness?
The Apollo 11 was the first mission to send men to the moon and have them take a step on another
planetary body. The objective of this mission was to complete a national goal of a lunar landing set
by President John F. Kennedy. People all around the world were anxiously waiting to see the
mission fail or succeed; everyone had heard about it from newspapers to the television, and even
going to see Apollo 11 launch in person. Two articles had been made to show the dangerous
circumstances Armstrong and Aldrin would have faced outside of Earth in the unknown outer space.
Another article shows the success of the two men sacrificing their lives to achieve something no
man has ever done. "In Event of Moon Disaster" and "The July 16, 1969, Launch: A Symbol of
Man's Greatness" are two articles that have different purposes and how effective they have been, are
affected by speaker, audience, and subject, and each article appeals to its own senses of logos, ethos,
and pathos. The biggest benefit of Apollo was the inspiration it gave to a growing generation to get
into science and aerospace–Buzz Aldrin. "That's one small step for man but one giant leap for
mankind."–Neil Armstrong. This one step of a man could lead to futuristic achievements for
technology and space exploration. "In Event of Moon Disaster," by William Safire, expresses the
"what if" scenario. Safire writes this speech for President Nixon incase there was an event of
disaster. The purpose is meant for Armstrong and

Pathos In Apollo 11 Speech
Apollo 11 was the first mission to send humans to the moon, this event is considered as "one of the
greatest moments of our time." This mission opened a new door of discovery for all of humankind.
Apollo 11 also received various recognition from the Times of London, a backup speech in case the
mission had failed, a commentary, and even it's own political cartoon. Rhetorical appeals such as
ethos, logos, and pathos are used to persuade the audience. Although these four texts share the same
subject concerning the Apollo 11 mission, some texts are more effective than others in using these
methods of persuasion.
In the news article by the Times of London, the announcement of Neil Armstrong being the first
man on the moon was broadcasted internationally. As a news outlet the Times of London is a
reliable source for information, displaying ethos. There is also filming of Neil Armstrong taking his
first steps on the moon as evidence of the landing. Connotations such as spectacular, breathtaking,
and beautiful are used for the reader to visualize the event as if they were there themselves. This
imagery utilizes pathos is to create a strong emotional response to the audience. Logos is faintly
distributed by stating that the Apollo 11 mission is "one of the greatest moments of our time."
Although there have been past inventions and movements in mankind, the Apollo 11 mission is a
new discovery that will further benefit scientific research. This article is effective because it
demonstrates all three rhetorical devices and the purpose is made clear.
Furthermore, William Safire reveals a speech that President Nixon would've given in case of a
disaster resulting in the Apollo 11 mission. The speech writer is originally but in this case he is the
speaker. Automatic ethos is distributed because of President Nixon's title as president. Since he is
president, he is given automatic ethos on speaking about the subject of a moon disaster. In the
speech, he shares similar sorrow for the astronauts' deaths as anyone else would. Pathos is an
effective element in this speech because it's main subject is about the deaths of the astronauts.
Anaphora, a rhetorical device, is used to create emphasis in the speech, "They will be mourned

Pathos In Apollo 11
The first trip to the moon where mankind got to step foot in was a huge deal to the entire world. A
total of four texts related to the 1996 Apollo 11 mission that landed the first humans on the moon
will be analyzed. The purpose, the interaction with SOAPS and ethos, logos and pathos will be
defined. Between the four texts two are effective and the other two will be ineffective. To begin
with, the Times article which appeared in a special 5am edition of the Times of London was made
specifically to inform the audience of the details and facts of the landing; while the article contains
some effective rhetoric devices and promotes the concept of human success its primary focus is
providing logical information to the readers. "Man Takes First Steps On The Moon" appeals to
logos, pathos and ethos providing accurate information about the moon landing success for the
audience. The newspaper which is easily recognizable and high status gives the article ethos
automatically. Because of the newspaper's name the readers can assume that the writer is reliable
and trustworthy. By this ethos being automatic it helps with logos appeals because the audience will
then think the Times article is correct and dependable. Not only are ethos appeals found but logos as
well. The article appeals to logos because its main focus is to be informative and it does this by
using specific details and facts to help maintain the focus. The way the information in the article is
presented is to the point and

Apollo 11 Text Effective
Is each text effective in achieving its purpose?
Man Takes First Steps on the Moon
The Times magazine published this article to inform America and countries around the world about
the Apollo 11 mission. Throughout this text the author accurately describes what occurred when the
man took his first steps on the moon, for example the author states, "The spectacular moment came
after he had inched his way down the ladder of the fragile lunar bug Eagle while Edwin Aldrin
watched his movements from inside the craft." This demonstrates the author's effective appeal to
pathos because this description gives an accurate depiction about the occurrence, allowing them to
feel the sense of pride Neil Armstrong felt the moment he stepped off the rocket. ... Show more

Although the speech was not released until 1999 it was still effective in achieving its purpose. The
release of the speech demonstrates President Nixon and William Safire preparation to notify people
of the tragedy that could've occurred. Through the speech they were also capable of allowing
America to see the importance of the astronauts contribution. Therefore by stating the astronauts
contribution comfort was brought throughout the speech to those who were affected by their deaths.
The authors use of pathos is prominent throughout the text for example Safire states, "They will be
mourned by their families and friends; they will be mourned by their nation; they will be mourned
by the people of the world; they will be mourned by a Mother Earth that dared send two of her sons
into the unknown." This shows William Safire's ability to evoke the emotion of compassion to those
who were affected by the death, by stating that not only their friends and family would be affected,
he unites people around the world showing that we all have a common ground in this situation. The
authors use of logos not only increases his automatic ethos but presents a clear logical point of view
which makes the speech stronger. William Safire's use of ethos is shown when he wrote, " These two
men are laying down their lives in mankind's most noble: the search for truth and understanding."
This further shows that the Apollo 11 mission had scientific benefits and although it is tragic these
astronauts died they did for a

From countdown to splashdown, Apollo 11 's mission was filled with some surprising twists and
turns. It took a combination of luck, determination and guts for the crew of Michael Collins, Buzz
Aldrin, and Neil Armstrong to get the Eagle to the surface of the moon with only 30 seconds of fuel
remaining! Experience the moments leading up to the lunar landing with me.
On the morning of July 16, 1969 a 60–ton Saturn 5 rocket was given a thorough inspection on
launch pad 39–A at the Kennedy Space Center. On board, Four and half tons of fuel, and a spider–
shaped spaceship covered with gold and silver foil.

Months before he blasted off, Buzz Aldrin lobbied very hard to be the first man on the Moon.
The commander of this and all subsequent Apollo missions would be the first to leave the spaceship.
Right now Aldrin 's job was to help his commander get out the door, and then fifteen minutes later
Buzz Aldrin would become the second man on the Moon.
Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin deployed some scientific experiments, collected 20 kilograms of
rocks, and took hundreds of pictures of the lunar surface. Future crews would spend several days on
the Moon. Armstrong and Aldrin spent 2 hours and 31 minutes. With their moonwalk behind them,
all that was left for the astronauts to do was get some sleep, then blast off and link up with Mike
Collins and the Command Module.
Of course, nobody had ever blasted off from the surface of the Moon before, and if there was some
kind of failure, there were very few options for two men who were now almost 400 thousand
kilometers from Earth.
Both astronauts had confidence in the spaceship that would take them from the surface of the Moon,
and a successful docking with the command module was pretty much a sure bet. Buzz Aldrin had
written the book on rendezvous in lunar orbit, so there was no one more qualified to execute that
maneuver. But Aldrin 's confidence for success was shaken just moments before he got some much–
needed rest. A breaker that if

Rhetorical Analysis Of Apollo 11 Speech
[title] In 1969 we were still a people with our feet planted firmly to the ground. Having never sent
anyone to walk on another celestial body other than our earth, all eyes were fixed on the skies as
Apollo 11 took off, putting two men on the moon. For the first time in the history of mankind, we
saw footprints on the moon. Those footprints, the markings of a new era of our world from the boots
of Neil Armstrong and Edwin Aldrin, resonated within the minds of many. In response to this
monumental event, numerous texts were created which employed various types of rhetorical appeals
and diction to effectively communicate their purpose of describing the events of this mission and the
achievements associated. The four various works that were created effectively use multiple
rhetorical appeals to display the author's purpose. "In event of Moon Disaster", a speech written by
President Nixon's speechwriter William Safire in the event of a disaster that would strand the
astronauts on the moon, employs heavy use of pathos throughout the entirety of the text. Pathos with
the audience has already been established. The audience would already become familiar with the
events that have transpired surrounding the failed Apollo 11 mission. The audience would have
some type of feeling towards the loss of American lives even before hearing the prepared speech.
Safire end the speech with "there is some corner of another world that is forever mankind" (Safire

The Apollo 11 Mission Of The United States
The moon landing mission marked a new technological era for the United States. This amazing feat
ushered in an age of pride and intelligence for the American people that swept across the nation.
This fateful success gave birth to America's interest in space and buried itself into our very culture
and our long and adventurous history. The Apollo 11's successful mission has also greatly affected
current technologies today. In order to further understand the mission's impact, research on the
Apollo 11 mission's preparation, the mission itself, and the technologies it impacted, is needed.

The backup crew of Apollo 8, who eventually turned into the crew of Apollo 11, had very little
access to the spaceship simulators during the beginning of their training. Only after the Apollo 10
mission did they ever have the chance to work the training programs and simulators.
An educated and properly trained crew is definitely the foundation of the successful Apollo 11
mission, however, the crew needs proper equipment, or technology, in order to train. The pilots of
the Apollo 11, Neil Armstrong and "Buzz" Aldrin, were not able to access the main practice ship
used for simulating the moon landing until the Apollo 10 crew left. After the Apollo 10 crew left, the
pilots went straight to work in the practice pod. Their schedule was so busy, they had to cancel a
dinner at the White House because the dinner would delay them a month behind schedule. The crew
of the historic space flight simulated the moon landing in a lunar module suspended by wires so the
gravity would be equal to that of the moon. This was by far the most important focus of their
training. However, the practice ship was actually inferior to the real one. The practice module would
not thrust in three different directions as the real ship would; this meant the dummy pod was
insufficient. Unfortunately, this pod was the only piece of technology that would somewhat

Apollo 11: The First Moon Landing
Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins, and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin were the three people sent into space for
the Apollo 11 space mission, the very first moon landing. With millions of people watching, a
United States astronaut was televised, setting foot on the moon for the very first time. Some people
thought that the moon landing was faked by the U.S.'s desire to beat the union in the Space Race.
But facts made by these theories were mere speculation. The moon landing was the only hope for
improvement for the future to others. Even through all the wreckage in the world, the Space Race,
the Cold war, even the Vietnam war, we managed to get to the moon, which was ... Show more

In fact the moon landing mission, Apollo 11 was a hugh breakthrough due to its success of landing
on the surface moon and returning back to Earth. Generally speaking Apollo 11 aircraft was
occupied by the astronauts Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins. After all this mission
is a matter of life or death, and these brave men stepped up the plate and said they were the ones that
were gonna go to the moon. A big source, "Popular Science" found out with all the fuel the the
Apollo 11 space module had equipped, it was enough energy to hurl 100 pound shrapnel three miles
far. So spectators were placed three and a half miles away from the detonation point. (PopSci. 1)
Shown this fact, it proves that America went all out in their Space launch. In fact when they left the
moon and planted the flag on the surface it fell over during take off. The flag still lays there, but just
won't stick up like all of us think it does.
This moon landing was a significant doing, we managed to have a human step foot on the moon for
the very first time. Landing on the moon was a revenge victory against the Soviets in the Space
Race. So what the other team (the Soviets) touched the moon first with a droid/robot, we were able
to put a man on the moon. We left our footprint on the moon, and that 's something you can't forge.

Apollo 11 Moon Landing Conspiracy
The Apollo 11 Moon Landing Conspiracy
Officially Accepted Story
During the 1960's and 70's, America and the USSR were in the midst of the Cold War Era, a period
of time where instead of fighting each other they competed against each other in order to be the first
nation to win the space race and that meant landing a human on the moon and have them return
safely before the other country.
In 1961 Russia was ahead of America in the space race after managing to launch Yuri Gagarin into
space, have him orbit the earth and return him safely , 23 days before American astronaut Alan B
Shepard was able too. In response to trailing behind Russia, President John F. Kennedy gave a
speech at Rice University Stadium in which he challenged America to find a way to put a man on
the moon and return him safely before the end of the decade.
After launching from the Kennedy space centre on July 20th 1969 the crew of Apollo 11 orbited the
earth one and a half times before being given permission to go to the moon, three days later the crew
are in orbit around the moon. Six hours after the lunar module lands on the moons surface, Neil
Armstrong becomes the first man to walk on the moon.
The two astronauts spend two and a half hours on the moon's surface collecting rocks and
conducting experiments before behind a plaque which honoured the astronauts that had died in the
pursuit of getting to space, American and Russian, an America flag and a plaque with a message that

The Success Of Apollo 11
In the 1960s the U.S. raced the Soviet Union to the moon determining which is the dominant nation.
Apollo 11 was the first successful manned mission to the moon. Our first astronauts, Neil Armstrong
and Buzz Aldrin, played an important role in this mission. Having to be in space for about a week
and pilot the spacecraft safely to the moon and back to Earth was a dangerous mission. With little
time to pass Armstrong and Aldrin had to record their first steps on the moon, take close and far
away pictures of the moon, and collect large samples of lunar material. Apollo 11's success
expressed the U.S.'s superiority over the Soviet Union. Several events led to the creation of Apollo

Buzz Aldrin Apollo 11

  • 1. Buzz Aldrin Apollo 11 T minus 10...9...8...7! Blast off, the force of 7.6 million pounds thrusting you into the air. The Apollo 11 was blasting off. Buzz aldrin experiences this first hand. Though hundreds experience from the ground. See how buzz felt before and during lift off, and how the people on the ground felt and saw. In the article by Buzz Aldrin he tells of the launch about to come and happening. Though it was three hours away, you could tell how excited and nervous he was. Then he shared a sad story of what happened to some other astronauts. Specifically – Gus Grissom, Roger Chaffee, and Ed White– They died at a pre launch when there capsule burst into flames. He skips ahead to the launch telling of how he felt. One thing I thought was interesting was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Rhetorical Analysis On Apollo 11 Authors, people, and writers over time have used the available means of persuasion and making sure that they include what the rhetorical situation is. In the four texts about the 1969 Apollo 11 mission that talk about the first humans that landed on the moon, all were effective due to them showing ethos, pathos, logos, and soaps which are the rhetorical appeals that one has to use when making an argument in a rhetorical situation. In the first given text, it talks about an article written by the Times called Man Takes First Steps on the Moon. The article shows soaps because it states who the speaker is which is "the Times", it also shows what the occasion is which is to inform everyone in the world that Neil Armstrong was the first man to ever walk on the moon. The audience in this text would be everyone in the world because it was such a big event that happened that was considered "one giant leap for mankind". The purpose of this text was to notify the world that Apollo 11 mission had successfully landed on the moon. The subject of the text was about the moon landing in 1969 that was accomplished. This article that the Times wrote also shows ethos. This text shows ethos because it proves that it is credible and trustworthy because of everyone the Times included to mention what their perspective of this event was to them. In the article, it states what Armstrong and Aldrin say when they land on the moon and it states the exact time it happened, this is an example of logos because they are giving the audience specific details and facts of the moon landing. When important people all around the world gave their opinion of the moon landing itself showed pathos because of what they said. They all felt different things when they saw Armstrong first land on the moon, these can be described as their emotions. In the text, it claims that Mr. Harold Wilson said in a televised statement, "our deep wish for a safe return at the end of what has been a most historic scientific achievement in the history of man." This means that he was hoping that everyone in the Apollo 11 mission came back home safely, this also shows pathos. The second given text is a written speech called In Event of Moon Disaster by William ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Ethos Of Apollo 11 In 1969, the Apollo 11 launch happened and became something rightfully important to the United States. It was the talk of every news stations and newspapers. These two men, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin had risked their lives to do something the whole world had not done before. They became the first men to walk the moon and this became something historical. After walking the moon, they placed the American flag on it too, and to this day it is still there. With all the newspapers talking about this, one that caught people's eyes was the Man Takes First Steps on The Moon. The audience was the people who were concerned about the first man landing on outer space. This was something abnormal at the time and nobody really had a clue how a human body can manage this. Also, this event was used to see the improvement of human success and what they have been capable of doing. Regarding space, it wasn't something that was really used, it was more like an illusion and seemed so close but far away at the same time. This text used ethos, and logos to support information about the moon's successful landing and provide it for the audience. For logos, the fact that a well–known newspaper publisher such as the Times wrote about it shows that it is a reliable source. Also that fact that the story was well–written and full of facts to make the audience believe it more. With pathos, the kind of emotion, it was giving the audience was more about happiness and being proud of the US for their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. The Discovery Of The Amazing Apollo 11 Feat Nick Wintjen Mr. Bergmann Senior English 31 March 2015 History or Hoax? "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind." Or was it? For decades skeptics have been conjuring up hundreds of theories to try and prove that on July 20, 1969, man did in fact, not step foot on the surface of the moon. Could what is perhaps the United States' greatest individual achievement be nothing but some Hollywood antics? Disbelievers of the amazing Apollo 11 feat have been voicing their opinion on the topic ever since the original photos and videos were publicly released nearly half a century ago. Many people believe that the famous scenes of Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin bounding across the "moon's" surface were actually just staged videos shot on a Hollywood movie set. Questions have arisen such as how was the flag that Armstrong and Aldrin planted blowing in the wind if there is no wind in space? Why is there what appears to be multiple light sources on the surface of the moon casting shadows in several different directions? Why is there clearly no visible stars in a picture taken from the surface of the moon? One curious skeptic explains his opinions about why man did not set foot on the moon and exposes a multitude of NASA mistakes. After a detailed study late in the year 2012, it was discovered that nearly 20% of American citizens do not actually think that the Apollo 11 mission ever took place outside of Earth's atmosphere (Fox 1). A long time cynic, Josh Fox, takes a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Apollo 11 Persuasive Speech To be able to persuade someone comes in many benefits since it shows the audience the other perspective they can be looking at. Talking about perspectives, these articles/speeches are all primary sources which expresses the emotional feelings that are being told. Using specific techniques that are made over years cause the writer to be flexible to their own audience, so that they can persuade the one who's reading or hearing. Using 2 types of ways that could've or that did happened makes the writer find way to emotionally catch one's attention with reason or logic. Which then leads to descriptive writing about the Apollo 11 launch being a persuasive text for the imagery it gives for the viewers. Visual Images can be a great way to point out obvious instead of writing paragraph, such as text 4 that talks about the truth that happened between societies. To use events in a persuasive reading/writing would be a great way to find an opening for an incomer for the rhetoric writing given. By using the Moon Landing as the subject, it contains many evidence from a primary source so that one would be able to look into it and learn more than an usual articles. When being descriptive it cases an image to mind which follows up to what's exactly doing such as the phrase "It was 3.56 a.m. (British Standard time) when Armstrong stepped off the ladder from Eagle and onto the moon's surface. The module's hatch had opened at 3.39 a.m." Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin photographed each other getting off the aircraft which then led to them to showing President Nixon being astonished of what has happened. If the Moon landing was a disaster, they had a specific speech ready for the ones who have lost their lives of the disaster. To honor someone in a big accomplishment is something important, To honor someone who sacrificed is respectful, To honor someone who gave it all they got for an important cause is noble. Using Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong are the main factor in this speech for one can pay their respects for what they have done. Giving respect for those 2 brave men causes emotional part of William Safire's speech which led to him describing them as heroes for one another. Although the people would've been sad about ... • 11. Apollo 11 Research Paper Ever since humanity has been able to look up and view the stars, forever gaining a better view, mankind has desired to go to space. Slowly gaining the ability of mobility, mankind has invented the wheel, then the automobile, and then aircraft. However, what lies in our recent past is the greatest achievement in reaching new frontiers so far – that is, reaching the moon. The Apollo 11 is responsible for accomplishing the basic mission of the Apollo Program; that is, to land two men on the lunar surface and return them safely to earth. "The long countdown for the voyage to the moon began in the spring of 1961, in the fourth year of the Space Age." We feel that this stands as a symbol of the insatiable curiosity of all mankind to explore the unknown," and at 12:22 P.M. Thursday, the astronauts jettisoned the Service Module to start the final descent from 400,000 feet into the Earth's atmosphere in which they would travel 24,000 miles an hour. Then the Earth's air gripped at the spacecraft, slowing its speed. Within minutes, the astronauts were in the water 950 miles southwest of Hawaii – home safe from man's first trip to the moon. The recovery aircraft carrier then picked up the astronauts, then adorned in biological isolation garments as a quarantine procedure, and carried them to a mobile isolation trailer for a checkup. President Nixon stood about 3 feet away from them speaking through a microphone, he said: "Neil, Buzz and Mike, ... I have the privilege of speaking for so many in welcoming you back to Earth. ...[Over 100 nations around the world] have had the opportunity to see what you have done." Following the recovery of the astronauts, it became clear that America had emerged ahead in the Cold War, and therefore, a world leader in space and technology. The United States only reaffirmed its stand as a world power, and the dreams of many to reach the moon had finally become a reality. Science and technology became highly valued fields to study and the sixties itself was remembered as the decade of space exploration. • 13. Persuasive Essay On Apollo 11 On May 25, 1961, President John F. Kennedy set a national a national goal to complete a crewed lunar landing on the Moon and return them to Earth safely. He made a special joint session of Congress on May 25, 1961 and said, "I believe this nation should commit itself to achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of landing a man on the moon and returning him safely to Earth." This soon became the primary objective of Apollo 11. On July 16, 1969, two brave men, by the names of Neil Armstrong (1930–2012) and "Buzz Aldrin" (1930–), traveled to a previously unexplored terrain. Apollo 11 was an extremely dangerous journey. • 15. Rhetorical Language In Apollo 11 What I will be doing in this essay is using all my knowledge of rhetorical language and analyze four pieces of literature. Over the past weeks I have learned many skills and what makes up a good persuasive piece and what doesn't make a good persuasive piece and I will put all my knowledge about rhetoric language to use. The four pieces I will be analyzing are all related to the Apollo 11 mission, which took place in 1969 which put humans on the moon for the first time,I will discuss the purpose, how it adjusts to their own audience they are trying to appeal to, how the speaker and subject affects the text, how it appeals to pathos, ethos, and logos , and finally if it is effective in accomplishing its purpose. The first text I will be analyzing is a news article from the Times of London reporting the event. It was made right after the moon mission on a 5 a.m. edition of the paper. The landing of the shuttle was at 3:39 a.m.and Neil Armstrong took his first steps at 3:56 a.m. so the newspaper was made shortly right after. It was made for the citizens of London to give more information about the Apollo 11 mission and moon landing and talked about all the big things that happened. The speaker, occasion, and subject all effect the text by making it informational and providing the citizens with the big information that happened. It got into people's emotions by creating hype and making it seem like a huge deal with starting off with the details and getting more intense with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The occasion also has to do with the moon landing, but it talks about what would have been said by President Nixon's speechwriter if the mission was not successful. The audience would be the entire world, because it would have been a tragedy if it was not accomplished Safire would have told everyone in the planet about it. The purpose of this text would have been to let everyone know about the fatal deaths that happened in the attempt to have landed on the moon and to also let everyone know how they feel about losing these souls and that they would always be remembered. The subject of the text is to notify everyone in the world about the failure of the moon landing. Ethos is shown in the text because it is proving that it is credible and trustworthy since this would have been said by someone that President Nixon knew. Pathos is also displayed in the text because it claims that, " They will be mourned by their families and friends; they will be mourned by their nation; they will be mourned by the people of the world; they will be mourned by a mother Earth that dared send two of her sons into the unknown." This proves that there is emotions and everyone would have been very sorrowful and depressed for the lives that had just been lost. The Apollo 11 moon landing was a significant event that showed what humanity could accomplish. The success of Apollo 11 came at a time when American society was in crisis. Some people argue that this achievement of landing on the moon was mainly to beat the Russians to it in the space race and how the achievement was born out of hatred and distrust. This is not necessarily true, a growing fear of adjusting to a world in which United States technology and leadership was perceived as second best. • 25. The Mission Of Apollo 11 Apollo 11 One single mission changed mankind forever, the Apollo 11 Mission. Apollo 11 was an unforgettable accomplishment for the United States and the entire globe. The historical achievement of landing successfully on the moon and leaving footprints, sparked a change in technology, knowledge, and society for the better. This achievement took place on July 20, 1969, Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins successfully landed on the moon, creating history by taking the first steps on another planet (Loff). The astronauts brought back samples of the moon, amongst other things, expanding America's knowledge. Therefore, it helped to improve our technology further, impacted society forever, and left a monumental impact on America's knowledge of the moon, Pre Apollo 11, was the Space Race between the United States and the Soviet Union. The Space Race was a Cold War competition between the two countries. Sputnik is what sparked the start of the Space Race in 1957. The Soviet's launch of the satellite Sputnik 1 shocked the United States and the rest of the world (Griggs). "The Soviet launch of the first Sputnik satellite was one accomplishment in a string of technological successes. Few in the United States had anticipated it, and even those who did were not aware of just how impressive it would be" (history.state.gov). This changed our belief in what we could accomplish. On July 20, 1969, the lunar module landed. Humanity did itself proud on that day. Until now nothing this big had ever been accomplished. The dream of traveling to the moon was already centuries old when the second World War ended in 1945. The primary objective of Apollo 11 was to complete a national goal set by President John F. Kennedy on May 25, 1961: perform a crewed lunar landing and return to Earth. Apollo 11 would be the mission to achieve the goal that President Kennedy had laid down, with more than five months to spare before the end–of–decade deadline. On July 19, after Apollo 11 had flown behind the moon out of contact with Earth, came the first lunar orbit insertion maneuver. At about 75 hours, 50 minutes into the flight, a retrograde firing of the SPS for 357.5 seconds placed the spacecraft into an initial, elliptical–lunar orbit of 69 by 190 miles. Later, a second burn of the SPS for 17 seconds placed the docked vehicles into a lunar orbit of 62 by 70.5 miles, which was calculated to change the orbit of the CSM piloted by Collins. The change happened because of lunar–gravity perturbations to the nominal 69 miles required for subsequent LM rendezvous and docking after completion of the lunar landing. • 29. Rhetorical Analysis Of The Apollo 11 In 1969, the Apollo 11 disembarked the first people on the moon. Because of this remarkable achievement, articles, speeches, commentaries, and political cartoons would undoubtedly talk about the event. They, however, would not all talk about the subject in the same way. Although they may not all be on the same page they had to address their topic carefully as to appeal to the audience. Using rhetoric can aid in delivering their message in a way that's effective. The use of rhetoric appeals can strengthen the message that they're trying to convey. Whether it would be the use of SOAPS or the appeals of ethos, logos, and pathos they would both serve the purpose of improving their way of delivering the point of the message in such a way that would be effectual. • 31. Rhetorical Analysis Of Apollo 11 Introduction In Rhetoric In 1969, the Apollo 11 launch happened and became something rightfully important to the United States. It was the talk of every news stations and newspapers. These two men, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin had risked their lives to do something the whole world had not done before. They became the first men to walk the moon and this became something historical. After walking the moon they placed the American flag on it too and to this day it is still their. With all the newspapers talking about this, one that caught people's eyes was the Man Takes First Steps on The Moon. The audience were the people who were concerned about the the first man landing into outer space. This was something abnormal at the time and nobody really had a clue how a human body can manage this. Also this event was used to see the improveJessica Sidon ment of human success and what they have been capable of doing. Regarding space, it wasn't something that was really used, it was more like an illusion and seemed so close but far away at the same time. This text used ethos, and logos to support information about the moon's success landing and provide it for the audience. For logos, the fact that a well–known newspaper publisher such as the Times wrote about it shows that it is a reliable source. Also that fact that the story was well–written and full of facts to make the audience believe it more. With pathos, the kind of emotion it was giving the audience was more of ... • 33. Apollo 11 : An Annual Holiday For Americans For years the thought of landing on the moon and coming back safely seemed impossible. Before Apollo 11 it was impossible. America proved everyone wrong in the world. It started in 1963 and was a long term project. There were many attempts but were failed. NASA never gave up on this idea because they thought it was achievable and were devoted to landing on another atmosphere. I think we should have a national holiday on July sixteenth every year to celebrate the people who contributed to this goal. We should also celebrate all of the technological advancements that were created in this mission. Landing on the moon is a day worth remembering. A few things we use in our life were advancements created in the Apollo 11 mission. Apollo 11 should be an annual holiday for Americans to honor those who contributed. In the beginning going to the moon was impossible, but America took on the challenge. "The primary objective of Apollo 11 was to complete a national goal set by President John F. Kennedy on May 25, 1961: perform a crewed lunar landing and return to Earth" (Blake). This goal was imagined and was talked about way before 1961 but on May 25 we stated that we were going to the moon and now we had to go through with it. John F. Kennedy made sure of it too. He asked congress to support funds to this project. When it was launched it was broadcasted on television for millions to watch. It was the event of the century. • 35. Apollo 11 Pros And Cons Over the past 48 years, there has been quite a bit of controversy and speculation about the Apollo 11 moon landing. This supposedly was the first time the United States successfully sent two people, mission commander Neil Armstrong, and his pilot Buzz Aldrin, to the moon. The two men spent 21 hours and 36 minutes of the moon's surface, and steaked the American flag on the moon. They also had photographs and video footage taken of them by NASA. These photos caused many people and also many conspiracy theorist, to look deeper into these doubtful images. Many people believed and still believe that NASA was lying to us about what actually happened all those years ago. Most of the speculation was geared towards the photos and videos taken while on the moon's surface. One of the most controversial photos of Apollo 11 mission was the waving of the flag. In an article by Josh Fox on Listverse.com, he tells us "when the first moon landing was shown on TV, viewers could see the American flag waving as Neil Armstrong and his pilot Buzz Aldrin places it on the moon's surface. Pictures of the landing also seem to show the flag flowing in the wind. The problem with that is there is no air on the moon's atmosphere, so that means there is no way the flag could be blowing.¨ Even with the flag waving in this photo, there was another thing that caught the attention of him and many other people, it was the lack of stars. In this image, there seems to be no stars at all. In another picture ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

During World War II, the Langley Memorial Aeronautical Laboratory hired women, black and white, to act as computers and interpret data for major flight research projects. This was a big deal due to women's past role in society which deemed them only capable of child bearing and being a good mother and wife. What made it an even bigger deal was that both African Americans and whites were working together to achieve the same goal. While these women have gone quite unnoticed, their work allowed the United States to send astronauts to the moon, along with contributing to prior successes such as breaking the sound barrier. It ... • 43. Pathos In Apollo 11 Speech Apollo 11 was the first mission to send humans to the moon, this event is considered as "one of the greatest moments of our time." This mission opened a new door of discovery for all of humankind. Apollo 11 also received various recognition from the Times of London, a backup speech in case the mission had failed, a commentary, and even it's own political cartoon. Rhetorical appeals such as ethos, logos, and pathos are used to persuade the audience. Although these four texts share the same subject concerning the Apollo 11 mission, some texts are more effective than others in using these methods of persuasion. In the news article by the Times of London, the announcement of Neil Armstrong being the first man on the moon was broadcasted internationally. As a news outlet the Times of London is a reliable source for information, displaying ethos. There is also filming of Neil Armstrong taking his first steps on the moon as evidence of the landing. Connotations such as spectacular, breathtaking, and beautiful are used for the reader to visualize the event as if they were there themselves. This imagery utilizes pathos is to create a strong emotional response to the audience. Logos is faintly distributed by stating that the Apollo 11 mission is "one of the greatest moments of our time." Although there have been past inventions and movements in mankind, the Apollo 11 mission is a new discovery that will further benefit scientific research. This article is effective because it demonstrates all three rhetorical devices and the purpose is made clear. Furthermore, William Safire reveals a speech that President Nixon would've given in case of a disaster resulting in the Apollo 11 mission. The speech writer is originally but in this case he is the speaker. Automatic ethos is distributed because of President Nixon's title as president. Since he is president, he is given automatic ethos on speaking about the subject of a moon disaster. In the speech, he shares similar sorrow for the astronauts' deaths as anyone else would. Pathos is an effective element in this speech because it's main subject is about the deaths of the astronauts. A total of four texts related to the 1996 Apollo 11 mission that landed the first humans on the moon will be analyzed. The purpose, the interaction with SOAPS and ethos, logos and pathos will be defined. Between the four texts two are effective and the other two will be ineffective. To begin with, the Times article which appeared in a special 5am edition of the Times of London was made specifically to inform the audience of the details and facts of the landing; while the article contains some effective rhetoric devices and promotes the concept of human success its primary focus is providing logical information to the readers. "Man Takes First Steps On The Moon" appeals to logos, pathos and ethos providing accurate information about the moon landing success for the audience. The newspaper which is easily recognizable and high status gives the article ethos automatically. Because of the newspaper's name the readers can assume that the writer is reliable and trustworthy. By this ethos being automatic it helps with logos appeals because the audience will then think the Times article is correct and dependable. Not only are ethos appeals found but logos as well. The article appeals to logos because its main focus is to be informative and it does this by using specific details and facts to help maintain the focus. The release of the speech demonstrates President Nixon and William Safire preparation to notify people of the tragedy that could've occurred. Through the speech they were also capable of allowing America to see the importance of the astronauts contribution. Therefore by stating the astronauts contribution comfort was brought throughout the speech to those who were affected by their deaths. The authors use of pathos is prominent throughout the text for example Safire states, "They will be mourned by their families and friends; they will be mourned by their nation; they will be mourned by the people of the world; they will be mourned by a Mother Earth that dared send two of her sons into the unknown." This shows William Safire's ability to evoke the emotion of compassion to those who were affected by the death, by stating that not only their friends and family would be affected, he unites people around the world showing that we all have a common ground in this situation. The authors use of logos not only increases his automatic ethos but presents a clear logical point of view which makes the speech stronger. William Safire's use of ethos is shown when he wrote, " These two men are laying down their lives in mankind's most noble: the search for truth and understanding." Having never sent anyone to walk on another celestial body other than our earth, all eyes were fixed on the skies as Apollo 11 took off, putting two men on the moon. For the first time in the history of mankind, we saw footprints on the moon. Those footprints, the markings of a new era of our world from the boots of Neil Armstrong and Edwin Aldrin, resonated within the minds of many. In response to this monumental event, numerous texts were created which employed various types of rhetorical appeals and diction to effectively communicate their purpose of describing the events of this mission and the achievements associated. The four various works that were created effectively use multiple rhetorical appeals to display the author's purpose. "In event of Moon Disaster", a speech written by President Nixon's speechwriter William Safire in the event of a disaster that would strand the astronauts on the moon, employs heavy use of pathos throughout the entirety of the text. Pathos with the audience has already been established. The audience would already become familiar with the events that have transpired surrounding the failed Apollo 11 mission. • 57. Apollo 11 Moon Landing Conspiracy The Apollo 11 Moon Landing Conspiracy Officially Accepted Story During the 1960's and 70's, America and the USSR were in the midst of the Cold War Era, a period of time where instead of fighting each other they competed against each other in order to be the first nation to win the space race and that meant landing a human on the moon and have them return safely before the other country. In 1961 Russia was ahead of America in the space race after managing to launch Yuri Gagarin into space, have him orbit the earth and return him safely , 23 days before American astronaut Alan B Shepard was able too. In response to trailing behind Russia, President John F. Kennedy gave a speech at Rice University Stadium in which he challenged America to find a way to put a man on the moon and return him safely before the end of the decade. After launching from the Kennedy space centre on July 20th 1969 the crew of Apollo 11 orbited the earth one and a half times before being given permission to go to the moon, three days later the crew are in orbit around the moon. Six hours after the lunar module lands on the moons surface, Neil Armstrong becomes the first man to walk on the moon. The two astronauts spend two and a half hours on the moon's surface collecting rocks and conducting experiments before behind a plaque which honoured the astronauts that had died in the pursuit of getting to space, American and Russian, an America flag and a plaque with a message that read "Here men from ... • 59. The Success Of Apollo 11 In the 1960s the U.S. raced the Soviet Union to the moon determining which is the dominant nation. Apollo 11 was the first successful manned mission to the moon. Our first astronauts, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin, played an important role in this mission. Having to be in space for about a week and pilot the spacecraft safely to the moon and back to Earth was a dangerous mission. With little time to pass Armstrong and Aldrin had to record their first steps on the moon, take close and far away pictures of the moon, and collect large samples of lunar material. Apollo 11's success expressed the U.S.'s superiority over the Soviet Union. Several events led to the creation of Apollo 11 and its success. Beginning with the Cold War and the Arms ... • 61. Apollo Program : Apollo 11 Apollo 11 "Nothing since Apollo has come close to the excitement that was generated by those astronauts: Armstrong, Aldrin, and the ten others who followed them". ("Apollo"). Being launched on the fourteenth of July in the year 1969, Apollo 11 had created a whole new period of space exploration and technology, defeating the Soviets in the Space Race, and bringing the end of the Cold War closer and to our favor. The Apollo 11 Mission had taken a major part in forming what is now today's science, technology, and society. The Apollo program was launched in 1963 and ended in 1972, being a three–part craft, including the command module, the flight control section, and the service module. The last mission being launched with Apollo 17 on December seventeenth, in the year 1972. Even after all had been said and done with launching men to the moon, Apollo's improvements to science and technology has been more than a blessing from the data that came from the Moon landings, such as discovering the origin of our entire solar system. Soon, Spin–off technology had been developed, followed by wealth, new products, and ideas that made life safe, easy, and happy. (Spudis). NASA's brilliant idea to explore space and use funds led to the advancement of new technology, technology that helped improve what humans now use in their daily lives, and even create completely new ideas and ways of doing certain things. Not just after the Apollo 11 missions, but the discoveries found by NASA in general completely changed the way humans now live in drastic ways, such as being able to take an echocardiogram, sleep on a memory foam mattress, have solar panels, and use a 3D endoscopic tool that can be used for safer brain surgeries. (Gill). To add onto, an American corporation known as Black and Decker had used what new discoveries in technology NASA had found to create an advance in cordless automation, which then provided better working hand held tools such as electric drills, screwdrivers, and other chargeable ... Apollo 11 Research Paper One small step and The United States was changed forever, one small step and people started to look up to the sky differently, one giant leap and adventurous space voyages begin. Being the first American spaceflight to land on the moon, Apollo 11 reached its destination on July 20, 1969. Astronauts Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins had done what people only dreamed of, they gained America great knowledge which fueled research that scientists wouldn't be able to do without their success. Apollo 11 was, and still is, one of the greatest things America has ever achieved because of all the benefits that had been introduced after reaching the moon. How does Apollo 11 equate to one of the biggest steps in human history? The United ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Through new Nasa technology Houston gained its very first retractable roof in one of its sports stadiums. Heart monitors that have the ability to send a shock if there is a risk of heart attack approaching, Cardiac rhythm management machines which can communicate with a pacemaker that has already been implanted, cordless medical equipment to enhance movement in an operating room, and easier treatment on dialysis patients have all been introduced because of the Apollo technology. Through all of the materialistic objects that technology of Apollo 11 helped grow, a different aspect of this achievement in history is how the U.S. gained confidence in space travel. Being the first people to ever step foot and reach the moon, it really was a "giant leap" for all of mankind in how people look up into the sky. Instead of seeing a mysterious uncharted space, eyes can now see human history and chances of exploration. Apollo 11, being a space shuttle that achieved its purpose, has helped fuel many other missions that have followed it. • 65. Apollo 11 Research Paper On the Apollo 11 mission, Neil Armstrong said, "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind." This event was a significant point in history for space exploration since he was the first person to walk on the moon. From the success of the Apollo 11 mission, future astronauts will explore Mars and I want to take part in the excursion to the Red Planet. The very moment I became enthralled by outer space was when I received a large hardback book about the solar system when I was four years old. From that point on I have obtained knowledge about the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the exploration to Mars. • 67. Essay On Apollo 11 In 1969, the United States were the first to accomplish the feat of successfully landing a man on the moon. In the Apollo 11 mission, Neil Armstrong and Edwin Buzz Aldrin were the first men to land on the moon. After World War II, another war started, which was the Cold War. The Cold War pitted the United States and the Soviet Union against each other, thus leading to the two countries fighting and competing for superiority, which eventually becomes a race for space. In 1959, the Soviet Union launched Luna 2, which was the first space probe to hit the moon. Then, later in 1961, the Soviet Yuri Gagarin was the first person to orbit the Earth in the Votstok 1. Due to these accomplishments by the Soviet Union, President John F. Kennedy boldly promised the public that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The reason for the lack of stars is similar to why we cannot see stars during the daytime–it's because of the sun's light. Due to the moon lacking an atmosphere, even during the day the sky is pitch black (http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/debunking–myth–that–moon–landing–was–hoax–1457501). Also, an article in The Telegraph, "Apollo 11 Moon landing: conspiracy theories debunked", the Apollo landing took place during lunar mornings, which resulted in the Sun shining brightly. With the moon's surface, sun, and the black sky, the stars are simply not bright enough to be captured in photographs. Another reason for the lack of stars is the exposure time settings on the cameras used for the moon landing. The cameras were using fast exposure settings, approximately 1/150th or 1/250th of a second, which would have limited any background light to appear in photographs.
