3. The kiss is a subject
matter that has been
explored by many artists
across the centuries but
it remains one which
continues to captivate
art enthusiasts even in
the modern day

7. Housed in a gorgeous pink (!) palazzo, this was the studio and home of
Hendrik Christian Andersen (1872-1940) sculptor who came to Europe
in 1893, eventually making Rome his home. His collection of monumental,
Neo-classical sculpture was left to the Italian Government on his death,
and his home was turned into this lovely (and free!) museum.
10. Hendrik Christian Andersen
Museum is established in the
neo-Renaissance villa, Villa
Helene, that he designed and
constructed in Via Mancini in
the 1920s. He bequeathed it,
and its contents, to the
Italian state at his death in
1940. The collection - over
two hundred sculptures of
various sizes and media, more
than two hundred paintings,
and some three hundred
graphic works - centres
around Andersen's utopian
concept of a great 'World
City', destined to be the
international headquarters of
a laboratory of artistic,
scientific, philosophical,
religious and cultural ideas
11. The rooms on the ground floor display works by the artist that were
planned to be exhibited at the The World Centre of Communication.
This was a project designed by the artist Hendrik Andersen and
architect Ernest Hébrard between 1901 and 1911. The purpose of
the Centre was to gather all the best intellectual products of mankind
in both scientific an artistic fields (the project was never realized)
25. A Festival of Cement Sculpture “A Cement Provocation” – took place in
summer, 2013 (held within the project “Gornozavodskoye – SOLID”).
The project had several stages that included work of the sculptors with the
gypsum model of the sculptures, taking a cast of the models and then
casting itself. The sculptures were installed in the central streets of
Gornozavodsk, a small town in the Perm region.
